A/N: Inconsistency is my middle name💀. But here’s this idea that came to my mind that I just HAD to write. Also sorry if the emojis look terrible, I wrote some of this on my phone, some on my iPad and then the rest on my computer so the format is kinda crazy.
Summary: You’re a well renowned actress and bachelorette that many have been trying to get at. Unfortunately, you never gave them the time of day. Until, someone comes along.
Possible Continuation: This may (emphasis on may because you know me💀) be a part of series I’m planning on doing. If not, I'll just come back and delete this paragraph and pretend nothing happened.
You have one message from...(Jamal Musiala)

The weight of exhaustion presses down on you as you sink into the comfort of your bed. It's been a relentless week, filled with auditions, interviews, and movie filming sessions. The tranquility of your bedroom offers a brief respite from the chaos that typically surrounds your life.
But of course, that doesn't last forever.
Your phone buzzes on the nightstand. You debate ignoring it, anyone texting at this time falls into one of two categories—people who are wayy too thirsty for their own good and miserable haters. For some reason tonight, perhaps out of boredom or a faint hope for something different, you decide to check.
You received one instagram notification from JamalMusiala10
The name doesn't immediately register with you since it's so late and your mind is still heavy with sleep, but you open the message anyway.
You groan inwardly, already regretting your decision to open the message. Jamal Musiala—the famous soccer player that plays for that German team? Bayern? You only recently got into football, so there was still much for you to learn but you're pretty sure that's who he is. You'll stalk his socials tomorrow.

How's it hanging?!?!?
This boy can NOT be serious.
You can't help but stifle a laugh at his attempt at casual banter. Is he a middle-aged white dad?
Wayy too thirsty it is! Never fails.

I gotta know more about Kingsley
Anything that might not have been talked about thru asks or general lore you wanna let folks know?
I don't think I've ever properly talked about him, his lore, and his motivations openly here. So strap in; this is gonna be a doozy.
And for y'all's sakes... I'll limit this to only containing lore from during his time at NRC. I can share post-NRC stuff another time.
Kingsley is a Horned King expy from the Chronciles of Prydain (the source material from which Disney's the Black Cauldron was made). As a result, many of his physical attributes, his personality, his story, and his relationships twist from the book series beyond the Disney film. There are very clear influences from the film as well, but I felt it would be far more striking and interesting if he drew from the original source material moreso than the film.
Kingsley is the crown prince of a fan-made location known as the Isle of Cantrevs - twisted from the Cantrevs in the Chronicles of Prydain. Due to his issues with anger management, his views on authority, and other additional traits, his parents - despite raising him to BE this way and culturally raising him to have certain beliefs - were unsatisfied and didn't approve of him as their son, let alone as the rightful heir to the throne. They opted to use sending him to NRC as a chance for him to prove himself, while also using it as an opportunity for them to literally get him off their hands. Naturally, he accepts the deal, but Kingsley feels the weight of the pressure to become the man his father wants him to be.
As he starts freshman year, he is sorted into Diasomnia, not SavannaClaw. Despite the aggressive and intimidating way he holds himself, he does maintain a militant, commanding presence and a subtle, noble aura. He is sorted into Diasomnia because of both who he will grow to become, and also because nobility and magical prowess are his most prominent attribute. And yet, to most, this shocks them. Because those who do not know how Kingsley is beyond his aggression assume he is best suited in SavannaClaw.
What's worse, the political tension and the personality clashing with the other canon characters of Diasomnia leads to many many conflicts, near death duels, and the immediate social isolation of one Kingsley Tyr. Because why did this human who prefers to fight with his fists and axes over his magic get sorted into Diasomnia? He doesn't belong here. We don't want him here.
In truth, despite how long it takes him to develop his UM, Kingsley is an incredibly strong mage, both physically and in the arcane. But he tries not to show off all of his cards. He tries to keep his secrets hidden in hopes to retain an upper hand.
He is diligent and vigilant, reserved unless he chooses to strike or intimidate or initiate. He keeps largely to himself, only choosing to create allyships when he knows its mutually beneficial, but does not hold himself like a normal student. He doesnt start out having friends. Instead, he dedicates all of his free time to trying to find the location of the Black Cauldron, or if not, the method of which it was created in order to obtain either the original or to create a new one. Because perhaps if he were to raise an army of the undead, his father would be impressed and acknowledge him for his skills and assets.
But in his isolation, blot and darkness are stewing. Truthfully, he should have Overblotted. Then why did he not?
Jack Howl. A few months into schooling, Jack decides he wants to see if the rumors are true, that there is nothing else besides lethal rage behind those skull hidden eyes. And what Jack finds instead is a young man hiding his numbness. His loneliness. He finds a young man who has never experienced a friendship and doesnt know how to connect with people beyond political allegiance. He meets a dedicated student, a young man built with an unwaverable loyalty, an a cunning strategist who is far from perfect, especially in his social skills. He sees a flicker of hope. A flicker of humor. A three dimensional human being. And from that flicker of life in Kingsley's eyes, Jack decides he's gonna see to it that Kingsley proves them all wrong. So Jack keeps hanging around him, until eventually Kingsley concedes and slowly begins to open up. And from that, he makes his first friend. You can read their first interaction here.
He often finds reprieve in SavannaClaw after this. He fights to earn his welcome and catches Leona's eye. Leona sees something akin in him and tolerates his presence in his dorm, so long as Kingsley doesnt become a problem. And when he starts to do so, their talk happens (which you can read here). But Kingsley TAKES the instruction, and ends up inadvertently proving both Leona and Jack right about what else is hidden behind the skull.
From there, we see allyships and friendships built between @thehollowwriter 's Finn, @ramshacklerumble 's Gia (who becomes his partner in crime and eventual QPP), and @cyanide-latte 's Copper (who becomes one of his most cherished and valued brothers).
We also see a game between hunters, as Kingsley and Rook wordlessly initiate a game between the two of them, which can be seen in a vignette here. The first one to land a lethal hit wins. And it's entirely on sight, regardless of the circumstances. Yet... after enough time passes, rumors begin to spread that they both are intentionally missing. Who is to say? But what we do know, flash forward, is that the King Takes Rook, and right before the graduation ceremony during Rook's senior year, Kingsley catches him off guard for ONCE, and calls checkmate with an axe blade to Rook's throat. Despite the two of them almost never talk, they end up maintaining their connection with one another, and Rook remains an invaluable presence in Kingsley's life - one who will guide him in his years post-NRC.
We also see a profound rivalry between Sebek and Kingsley. Sebek cannot understand for the life of him WHY Kingsley is allowed to grace the same steps and dorm as one Malleus Draconia. This human disgraces everything that they stand for, and has done nothing but cause problems for Malleus - who for the record doesnt give a fuck about Kingsley in any capacity. You can see one instance of them fighting here. And we will touch more on this later, but keep it in mind.
There isn't a lot that has been thoroughly hammered out in terms of specific details. But dynamics have been considered and there are specific key moments that have been fleshed out.
There are a few things I have hammered out, like his direct involvement in Book 4, as well as one instance of dream walking that Silver experiences- which can be read here. Otherwise, there are a ton of empty gaps.
During sophomore year, while predominantly nebulous at this point, is where I imagine a big turning point happens, where we really see him growing. He starts to question his dynamic with his parents. He starts to question their expectations of him, and whether or not their vision of their political dynamics and rulership is beneficial both for their foriegn affairs, and for their country. But moreover, he begins to question if he even wants to take the throne after his father. He questions if thats a life he really wants to have. In social isolation. Under immense stress. Is he even cut out to be king? Is he a fit worth selecting?
I do also Headcanon that he becomes Housewarden after Malleus heads off for his internship - you know... making bold assumptions here since Book 7 isnt finished. But I imagine he is challenged regularly, and wins- often without use of magic.
Just as he is beginning to sort out his feelings, his parents summon him in the summer between sophomore and junior year for what I refer to as the "Cantrevs Event". He has been summoned to clean up his parents mess and find a magical artifact that was stolen from them while they are busy dealing with conflicts between the Cantrevs and Briar Valley. He is asked to select a team of qualified assitants to come to the Cantrevs and retrieve the artifact, and prove that he actually has what it takes to be a leader. He chooses his friends and mutual acquaintances who have specific skill sets in order to help him on their quest. During this time, his UM awakens, and he really starts to realize his true potential. This is something I hope to write out as a long form fic one day.
In junior year, he finally earns Sebek's respect. And when Kingsley clocks the change in Sebek's demeanor toward him, he does actually offer Sebek the opportunity at becoming Vice-Housewarden. This is no small gesture, and it significantly changes their dynamic moving forward. This can be read here.
Beyond this, again, things are still really nebulous and I haven't fleshed them out. I also haven't fully figured out where exactly he interns at for his senior year, but Im excited at the prospect at exploring these things. And furthermore, all the empty space for me feels like opportunities to explore other things and to explore OC to OC interactions, where other folks may be interested.
If you've stuck around this far, thank you so so much for reading!!

when do you think you’ll come out with a new series i’m dying for some good angsty pazzi
Alright we're gonna use this ask to make y'all choose what y'all want the next series to be about. I have many ideas and I've narrowed them down to three but I am terrible at making decisions and so you're gonna do it for me! Pretty please vote on which plotline y'all like best. Also if you have anything to add to either of these plotlines, let me know. And if you have a different plot idea, send that too with like a fair amount of detail and I will consider it. While I make no promises, ideally chapters will start coming out in July <3
Exes to lovers fic: Paige and Azzi break up after college, reunited years later on the same team in the W, lots of angst issues on and off the court. The baby fever has been baby fever-ing so potentially Azzi has a daughter by then and Paige is a volunteer coach at the elementary school (lowkey kinda leaning towards this one so it might just end up being this even if one of the other's win I'm sorry)
Life as we know it inspired fic: can y'all tell I have baby fever? Basically if you've seen the film, it's two people who move in to take care of their friends (who died) baby so loosely based on that concept, could be Pazzi as exes or best friends or enemies, lmk if y'all have a preference
College fic: self-explanatory, Paige and Azzi trying to be "just friends" and failing but I'm a little hesitant to write it because it would just feel like a retelling of events and I'm unsure of writing that for multiple reasons.

now that s17 is over, how did you like it? it feels like most people either thought it was mild or weak, which makes me sad, so i stopped going to the discussion threads about it :""( i also don't see much anticipation for s18...
aww anon well, first, if you had a good time then that's what matters! so i hope series 17 brought you a little joy each week, that's what panel shows are for in my humble opinion 😚
because i know i'm about to word vomit some word salad, i'll throw out some s17 reactions + s18 thoughts below the cut! that way anyone who is sick of my nonsense doesn't have to scroll past it lmaooo
series 17 was a decent one! i don't think it's in the hall of fame, but it's definitely nowhere near the couple of "unwatchables" as they're (pretty unfairly) called. i've talked before about one of the downfalls of a season is when a group doesn't harness their dynamic and take control of the show — when they're in the studio and just sit quietly, waiting for greg to give them permission to speak, things flow well for the editors but the experience lacks. this is why s1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, even 12 are so silly and chaotic: the contestants were constantly fighting, interrupting or pausing judging, trying to convince or gaslight or challenge greg, just...speaking! talking! interacting! if that doesn't happen, taskmaster can just feel like show and tell, which is not when it's at its best
ultimately, this is why too many polite and well-behaved people in a single series is a pleasant watch but doesn't hit very hard. this series was exceptionally nice, we have to admit. joanne followed by steve may have been the "hang on a second ☝️" contestants of the series, but not by a lot, meanwhile nick and sophie were the loveliest, pretty quiet people and john was dead silent most of the time. actually, that was something that ended up surprising me — john was so focused on the tasks, so focused on winning, most of the time he didn't pause to give significant, funny commentary while filming, didn't give us *nearly* the banter with alex i anticipated, and was particularly quiet in the studio. i knew he'd be in it to win it, don't get me wrong, but he approached taskmaster more as a richard herring than an ed gamble, if you know what i mean. it was very funny to me when he was on the tm podcast and was more or less like "i know i didn't prioritise being entertaining" lmao that earnestness can be sweet, because i do like to watch the show imagining how i would do each task, but his ~no nonsense~ approach was turned up to 11 for a lot more of the series than i anticipated. i almost wish john had leaned a little more into his self-aware neuroticism and competitiveness just because that's generally a good character on taskmaster — and this series was definitely missing that
(you know, talking about this really reinforces my belief that kerry godliman is perhaps the most perfect taskmaster contestant...ever. competitive, no nonsense and full of nonsense, top bantz, stands up for herself and tears down others but fights without being genuinely angry or butthurt, doesn't know enough to try and figure out a workaround for every single task, loves and bullies alex in equal measure... just love the woman. love her. fuck it, same for jess knappett. i miss my girls😭 this is ALSO why i think rosie is a great fit for tm)
anywayz i haven't read mucho mucho discourse about series 17, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's the vague "criticism" people: just more lowkey vibes than other series. but some people prefer that, so..!!!
i think, too, too many people look back at series 1–...7? at least and want to see the same greg–alex dynamic, approach to the prize tasks, approach to scoring, lil tricks, what have you — and that is not gonna happen again. ever. for example, greg and alex have talked too many times about how hard they try to score things "fairly" because that's become such a big point of conversation for the viewers at home and, atp, even the contestants. personally, i don't prefer that. fuck fair! this is not a real competition it's an entertainment show!! when greg was throwing out points willy nilly, bonus points for eating hair, giving 5 points to a prize just bc it's his personal sense of humour and ranking another contestant's prize low every week just bc that's a funny recurring joke/dynamic, whatever. i do not care. give phil wang 1 point every time. points schmoints. but that cannot happen anymore because the viewers starting taking the points so darn seriously. (not to mention the opportunity to do coc is now pretty coveted for its $$$ and exposure, too, i'd imagine.) the same goes for greg leaning into his dictator role, the master/slave relationship between him and alex, alex being super stoic and quiet — not only does tm think those characters and dynamics are played out, but in some ways the audience has evolved beyond all that
my point is that people get caught up in the Old Gen Taskmaster that hooked them and can't accept the ways in which the show has evolved — even if it's in their opinion for worse. do i think it would kill taskmaster to go back to slightly less convoluted tasks and commit to the 1–5 point system instead of constant ties (or "this was a 3-point effort")? no. i would like to see that lmao but i don't view the series through the lens of a series 1 fan anymore, either. a reality check would help a lot of complainers
i did read one thing i thought was interesting — that with the huge number of series we're at with tm uk, and now the accessibility of other countries' spin-offs, there is a bigger and bigger pool of God Tier Taskmaster to compare each new series to. it used to be "hmm does this new series stack up against series 4, one of the all-time greats?" but now we're stacking new series up against the top ~6 of tm uk, tm nz s2, a couple of the tm belgiums, tm aus s1, and so on. competition is stiff!! not many series can be The Very Best Of All Time, so with each new tm uk that isn't, people start to feel like the show has gone downhill when it probably is stagnant at worst. does that make sense?
i don't wanna sound like every criticism of tm can be explained away or comes from a bad place. as i've mentioned above, i have my qualms. this series, one of my major qualms and seriously unpopular opinions was that i didn't like that steve wasn't actually bringing in prizes half the time. like, he was doing bits and they were funny bits, but greg was scoring him mad high for the effort he put into his bits instead of the actual prizes he brought in for entry. i stand by that opinion, but the thing is i didn't let that ruin my experience of the show. but, maybe, it just comes down to the fact i want to like it...so i do ^^
maybe i talked way too much about criticism and negativity hahah some things i really enjoyed from this series:
nick is probably the second person following john kearns who i actively disliked before taskmaster specifically because i had only ever seen their comedy characters doing dictionary corner or a bit of standup — and i really didn't like them. (still never seen ted lasso!) lo and behold, they go on taskmaster and are S Tier Sweethearts and i see them both in totally new lights! in fact john's last standup show is being released shortly and i cannot wait to watch it — which me of the past would never believe i'm saying lmao so i'm so grateful the show opened my eyes to what a funny, sweet person nick is!! and may i say his and john's styles in the studio are massively underrated. they are both incredibly snazzy dressers!
steve and nick were a sweet little team weren't they! i think it would have been funnier to have john x sophie (the best and the worst, in their own ways) vs. the more harmonious steve x nick x sophie, but regardless it was very cute stuff
the location was great! i fucking love a big open field, i fucking love a river
greg has had some really strong intro "speeches" the last few series and i loved his this time around. they're just equal parts stupid and weird + his authoritative, classic greg delivery always makes me laugh heh
some of the strongest live tasks in a while!! catching the little monsters, passing the loo through the tube, bouncing the ball on the bar — all felt like quintessential uncomplicated classic taskmaster parlour games and they were good fun
TONS out outtakes content!
and gosh it's wonderful to have a new little hour of pleasantness to have each week :)
regarding s18... it's an interesting lineup! in a good way!! i think rosie's character is more or less a perfect fit for the taskmaster format. obviously she is one of the biggest female comedians in the uk right now, but i didn't bet on her doing tm because i didn't think the show could commit to accommodating her disability for 10 episodes. and, frankly, they may not — and i guarantee she is completely okay with that. she was born from the rhod gilbert school of showing up to fuck around, and i sleep soundly knowing she will do just that. i really like jack dee and i'm happy for alex to have made it work with him. it typically wouldn't be my choice to have two senior comedian white men on one series, and (unpopularly?) i'm not really a zaltzman person, but i have no doubt he'll be quite charming. emma sidi is part of the alex horne bubble of friends i have mentioned a few times before, but i actually don't know much about her. babatunde feels like a sensible fresh pick since he's been doing more variety/panel shows; i don't watch him on googlebox (which i love) because i don't like mo gilligan (very unsorry about this opinion heh), but what i've seen of him i've enjoyed! i don't think the group's dynamic is obvious just from their list of names, but the fact they're all comedians is VERY promising and makes me supersupersuper happy — all comedian lineups are historically the strongest. so yay!! but can you imagine who will be on a team?? god imagine a jack x rosie team lmfaoooooooooooo i live for the thought
hope that made sense and if it didn't whoops! don't mind me heheh

Ok, so! I came across this post and had a thought.
It’s true not a lot of people in the Dp x Dc fandom are aware that there are multiple types of kryptonite. Or if they are they aren’t using it to it’s full potential. I know many enter this fandom from DP and not everyone has consumed every DC piece of media and some of you stumbled across this black whole and got sucked in with no knowledge of either fandom or cannon. So this is why I’m making this post.
For example, everyone knows Batman carries around a small chunk of kryptonite in a lead lined pouch on his utility belt. But everyone assumes or goes with the most common green. Which as we know cause pain aside from just stripping Superman of his powers (or does it just cause so much pain that he is incapable of moving? I forget). Batman may be all for contingencies but would he really want to cause so much pain to someone he considers a best friend? Or Tim and Damian in the cases of Conner and Jon. No, I don’t think so. Green Kryptonite is a last resort but in the case of mind control or other things out of Supes control I think Batman would use Blue Kryptonite instead. It strips Supers of their powers and renders them as dangerous as any human, which would be easier for any other powered human or Batman himself to subdue.
Specifically the Smallville version of blue kryptonite. Though there is a version that says it heals kryptonians but I prefer the Smallville one.
Think of medical uses, would they really use green kryptonite to treat a downed Super? Causing more pain, no matter how small, in an attempt to help? No, blue kryptonite has the same results with no pain. It can be used for medical needles, cuffs and anything really, that’s needed to subdue a Super.
*addition-there is such a thing as clear kryptonite which is basically neutralized and is harmless kryptonite, it has been rendered powerless but it can still pierce kryptonion skin but does not have any adverse effects. This would be perfect for making medical tools needed to treat kryptonions. *
I know the other types of kryptonite are rare but you can’t tell me Batman doesn’t have samples of all of them… some he probably stole retrieved from Lex Luthor.
I would love to see more of the effects of other kryptonite and see it more in the Dp x DC fandom. Like how do they affect ghosts? If kryptonite is candy what are their flavors. Is green grape or weed flavored kryptonite candy, do they have emotions associated with them like red kryptonite is rage/irrationality or random power addition.
Here’s some general sites with a list of kryptonite types and different abilities based on different strains of comics, films or series of DC.
Go forth and disregard canon as canon disregards itself! Use this knowledge to create unhinged fannon against the originals!

The way folks are, again, unsurprisingly shitting on the Omniscient Reader manhwa while shitting on the live-action based on what appears to be 1-2 posters and a title just says so much.
I also think it's funny folks are stating that the studio who is making the live-action movies didn't read "the source material" when a sizeable chunk of non-Korean fandom has likely only read the unrevised version of ORV, since that's what the popular English fan translation is based on. So when you are furious the movie crew didn't read the "source material", like... who are you mad at, exactly, cause statistically speaking, you probably didn't read it either?
Like it's fine to criticize the live-action stuff, I'm not trying to defend it, and it's fine to not be a fan of the title or the posters or even dislike it when it releases (personally, I'm not into live-action adaptations of most things, especially when they were already adapted into comics; I prefer full animation every time). This is just a bizarre reaction, and little different to how people reacted after the anime announcement and casting announcements/speculation for the live-action. Maybe the movie crew didn't read the source material, or at least not fully. Maybe they just made some very weird decisions. It's live-action, that happens. And adaptations are seldom going to be exactly the same as the source material. They're adaptations. That's what they do.
The only official English translation of ORV of any kind, particularly based on the revision, at this point in time, is in the manhwa. It's not perfect, and it's fine to criticize it or not be into it, but it's fucking hilarious that people think it is ruining ORV in comparison to, what, a fan translation based on a different version of the story? Assuming it's even possible to "ruin" an existing novel that is not going anywhere.
The freely available and massively hyped manhwa brought in a ton of fans to the fandom. It probably brought in a lot of folks who wrote and drew your favorite fanworks. If you think it is somehow ruining ORV, you are the problem, because you just hate other fans. And manhwa-first fans see you. Like it's fine to not get along with other fans, it's fine to disagree with their interpretations, particularly if they're basing it off of a different version of the story. This is not my first fandom where a large chunk of the fandom came first from an adaptation, and I get what it's like to be frustrated with popular fan interpretations from chunks of fandom who focus on adaptations or are adaptation-first, particularly when massive changes are made for the adaptation. But rather than write angry screeds about how the adaptation (one of which we haven't even seen yet, a poster /= a movie, let alone a series of movies) ruined the source material, you can just use your block button. There are in fact plenty of people who have interpretations of the novel you probably don't agree with, too.
But also for folks mad about "The Prophet", maybe you need a refresher?
Also for folks confused, singNsong announced on 3 February 2020 that it was a 5-part live-action movie deal. How Dokja knows what he knows about what's going to happen is an important part of a good chunk of the story, including the opening. He gets questioned about it a lot. It makes some sense they'd title the first part of five about this. I assume the other movies will have different titles.
The live-action is probably going to bring in a new wave of fans. It's a simple reality that some mediums (e.g., an 800 chapter, ongoing novel) is less inviting to people than other mediums, such as film, and folks may be interested when they see the film. A chunk of them will probably check out the novel (and the manhwa). They may even love the novel more. They may write your favorite fanfic or draw your favorite piece of art or write a great essay of thoughts on thoughts. It's happened before, many, many times. Relax.
#orv#omniscient reader#omniscient reader's viewpoint#like good grief people#oh no people are mad about a poster and first look of a live-action and it's a day that ends in y#I remember when everyone lost their minds over the first shots of live-action Cavill Geralt in the wig#and the show for all its nonsense still got a fuckton of new people into the fandom#also don't read the twitter comments#just don't do that to yourself

Here are my first thoughts after finally having watched the 2023 Christmas Special for the first time:
Positive:
Baby Mia is absolutely adorable and Alison and Mike are wonderful parents. They've grown and matured so much throughout the series and it's lovely to see that in the way they are with Mia and take care of her
and speaking of growth: I think it's lovely that in the end, the ghosts are ready to let Alison and Mike go. They've really come full circle from trying to get them to leave in the beginning to begging them to stay in series 5 and finally, to encouraging them to leave because that's what's best for Alison and Mike's family
I love that Alison looks like the tired, exhausted mum she is. These days, characters often look picture perfect in film and TV, no matter the situation, and Ghosts has always felt like a breath of fresh air because people are allowed to look normal. It's little things like Alison's yellow coat that she's worn throughout the show hanging by the door, her wearing Mike's flannels or having bags under her eyes that make it feel beautifully real down to Earth, and I'm glad the downsides of having a child didn't get glossed over
one of my favourite moments was the shrug Humphrey's body gave when everyone was looking for its head. That genuinely made me laugh because of course the body would not care whether the head would get exorcised or not
and omg, the exorcism scene was so well done! I love the music in the background (I so hope we'll get a soundtrack one day), the panic on Mike's face when he quite literally runs to warn Alison, the panic on Alison's face when she's faced with the possibility of losing the ghosts, the fear when she can't find them (which parallels 5x01) and finally the relief and smile when she hears their voices. That whole sequence was just perfect
I love that it's Thomas who says, "Because they just can't help being who they are," because it's not an excuse for his behaviour but an explanation - and a recurring theme for him. Right in the beginning of the show, he said, "We stay how we die," and I think for him, those words have proven to be true. He is heartbroken and he'll stay that way. He can't help that. He does not want Alison to go ("Why did I vote for this? I hate it.") but in the end he knows it's what's best for her and for himself, even if it breaks his broken heart a little more.
seeing Button House in all its glory in the end. It still being called Button House. Fanny and Humphrey's portraits on the wall (and the third one might be Kitty's?). Higham Suite (which was the thing that made me tear up because my first thought was that it's meant to honour Isabelle and I love that (although I realise it's probably meant to honour Kitty but I'm choosing to ignore that)). Thomas still complimenting Alison even though she's grown old and thus making a point that his affections for her were never just about her looks
Neutral:
I would have preferred if Alison and Mike had stayed at Button House because for me, the show has always been about family and I don't think they had to leave the ghosts behind to find their own way. BUT the way the Idiots wrote and executed it - with the ghosts encouraging them to leave, establishing that Alison and Mike regularly come back to the house and with details like Higham Suite that clearly show that Alison and Mike had the ghosts in mind when they made the contract for sale - makes it okay for me.
I'm a bit sad we did not get to see more of the ghosts interacting with baby Mia but what we saw - Pat and Cap especially - was very sweet
Negative:
the pacing. I am so sorry but I think they crammed too much into the episode. They either should have cut the exorcism storyline (as much as I loved it) or gone for a 60 minute special. There's just too much going on for 30 minutes, and too many time jumps (I wasn't a fan of them in the 2021 Christmas Special either) that sadly make the whole episode feel very rushed
and because it felt so rushed a lot of plots did not have the impact they were meant to have, at least not on me. Robin's feelings about Christmas for example.
also what was going on with Kitty and the baby at the beginning? Her being jealous is obviously not a new thing but the issue did not really get resolved, did it?
the latter also goes for Thomas's feelings for Alison which brings me to my biggest criticism of the whole show: he never got the character development he deserved (and, to an extent, neither did Fanny). The whole baby storyline would have been the perfect set up for him to move on from Alison (including discussions about different types of love and him realising that Alison does love him platonically and that that's enough) but it never happened. I feel like he was done dirty in that regard because every other character except him got to grow
I have probably missed a ton of moments - and I will rewatch the episode once I've rewatched series 5 - and likely repeated things here that others have said before. Since I had blocked all tags blocked when the Special aired I have no idea how the fandom's reaction to it was but if anyone still wants to talk about it, my asks are open.

I know I've made this argument myself many times, but I'm starting to think that we're moving in the wrong direction when we respond to critics of fanfic and pulp romance by saying stuff like "Dante's Inferno was fanfic!" or "Jane Austen was dismissed as silly romance!"
Like yeah, transformative works can be just as creative and deep as original fiction, and romance-centric stories can be literature in their own right, but also…. it's fucking okay to read stuff that isn't like that?
Controversial opinion, but if your idea of a good read is a series of <200 word short stories about characters from your favourite TV show trying to book a hotel room only to discover that (shocker) THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED!!! then that's honestly just as valid a recreational activity as reading Remains of the Day or The Brothers Karamazov.
Do the works have equal complexity or literary significance? No, probably not, but that doesn't actually matter if the question is "what to read in the evenings so I can destress before bed?" or "what to entertain myself with while on holiday?"
It's not like we treat other forms of media this way. No one feels the need to justify having a generic flower painting on the wall by comparing it to Van Gogh's Sunflowers. Nobody excuses playing pop songs in the car by pointing out that "Mozart was the Taylor Swift of his day!"
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people don't get snobbish about this stuff. People get snobbish about anything. But reading is really the only hobby where it seems common practice to validate this snobbery by insisting that actually your preferred form of fiction is literature after all.
We all get that there are people who are consumed by a deep passion for art, or music, or food, or whatever, and that many of these people enjoy spending a lot of time (sometimes in professional settings) analysing various works to determine which ones are the most complex and culturally significant.
That's fine, we wish them well and they're probably doing good work.
But we also get that there are other people who just want to watch popcorn films or listen to whatever's on the radio atm while eating oven pizza, and that's also completely fine. Those things aren't invalid just because you couldn't write an academic essay on them, they're fulfilling a completely different but equally important function in our lives!
As someone with a literal degree in this stuff, it's fine to just let reading be one of those background things that you do purely to relax and don't put any thought into. Literally nobody has the time or energy to become a connoisseur in every field, and the average person will run themselves into the ground if they try.
Bread and roses are important, yeah, but so are bubblegum and fairy lights. Not everything has to be either work or educational.

Thoughts, Headcanons and Comments on Negaduck (My AU).
This here is more of a commentary blog and maybe a rant, it can also be considered as a headcanon blog and also for Negaduck fans (which I feel like the majority will curse me A LOT for not agreeing with either group, OG and DT 2017). For those who want to, they can read it as they wish, but I'm already advancing that it's LONG and will have some low-level words (I'll censor it, but it's still worth it). Feel free to leave comments about your opinions... And preferably, the comments should be healthy...
So... I woke up these days and thought to myself... "Do you know what would be good today? Talking about a character idolized by the majority of Fandom as the best villain in Darkwing Duck and a hidden passion for many people and suffering hate from everyone ? YAY!!! =D" (yes, I have self-love... Don't worry, this is just a joke).
Me after this blog:
Ok, clarifying something for everyone here... I like Negaduck himself, I really like his concept and even his personality. Characters that are basically chaotic, crazy and the reincarnation of evil itself, I love that concept. My problem with Negaduck is kind of his Fandom... People put him on a pedestal and say he's the ultimate villain and the rest is just the rest... I'm talking about a kind of toxic part of the community, like those who make meaningless or simply problematic ships (sorry for those who ship, but Darkwing Duck and Negaduck would NEVER happen in this ship, they are literally mortal enemies and in OG it's worse because Negaduck is an alternative version of Drake). My problem is not the character, the problem is his toxic fans and the fact that he is always considered one of the best villains and blah blah blah. Guys, I see Negaduck as a good antagonistic figure to DWD. The vision of what Drake could become if something went wrong. A criminal genius who has no scruples about getting what he wants and who will do the worst things in the world to get what he wants, including threatening his own companions, the Fearsome Four, with death. A psychopathic maniac who is so toxic that he is basically disgusting and chaotic. Think of classic Disney villains who were the antithesis of evil, like Jafar and the Evil Queen. They're almost pure evil, but they're still charismatic. Basically a villain we love to hate.
Having already spoken my vision, let's move on to the Headcanons and also criticisms of both Negaducks (the OG 1991 and the DT 2017). Just remembering that I like both versions, but I have my criticisms of them... It's never an attack on the fans, it's just constructive criticism and my view of the character. And let's start with what people apparently idolize the most... Negaduck/Jim Starling from DT 2017. Starting with the most controversial one here that will cause me more attacks from the fans, but ok! =D
The story they made for Negaduck is, to say the least, curious... He was the original actor in the Darkwing Duck series in the Ducktales Reboot universe, whose career took a break after the series ended and he wanted to return in the new film. His name is Jim Starling (pause to praise the idea of the name and her reference, the team is to be congratulated on this honor), he is apparently a duck in his 40s and, apparently, serves to draw a parallel with the DW of original series. The original protagonist of the series that many people followed and to be the antithesis of Drake Mallard, who is the new modern Darkwing Duck of this generation. There are things that I genuinely like about this new Negaduck, like the fact that he is his own character and not an alternative version or copy of Darkwing, the metalanguage with the original Darkwing Duck being a series in Ducktales and things like that... My problem is what they did, the execution... I don't know, I don't like how they wrote Jim, he often makes parallels with the OG protagonist Darkwing Duck and seems to demonize him, while exalting the current Drake Mallard who is nicer, the which I honestly don't like. Besides... WHAT THE F*CK DO HAPPENED WITH JIM AT THE END?!?! A CRAP SCENARIO FELL ON HIS HEAD AND HE BECAME GOO, THEN HE BECAME NEGADUCK?!?! What did they give the screenwriters?! Give me, I want 2 of these...
Okay, calm down... Back to focus... I don't like how this ending happened, it kind of takes away the idea that he's a human and makes him turn into a mutant, which I don't approve of since the fun part is that Darkwing Duck and Negaduck are human, but they're impressive they survive something that would kill them (like old cartoons) and don't get a scratch. The justification they gave to Drake is good, that he always stands up because he has impressive willpower and that he is stubborn. But Negaduck... No! I would change that yes, Jim would survive even though that thing fell on his head and crushed him, but it would have just been a "scene" that he did, but he would appear injured and, if he appeared again, it would show him with scars from that incident . It would be much better... Now, his motivation... It's kind of whatever... I don't hate it, but the way it was done I didn't think it was cool, even though the justification was valid. I've seen some people making fun of him that he just "wanted attention", which is kind of true... But considering that ND is evil incarnate, you can accept it. Oh, and one last aspect that I liked and that was in the classic series... When Negaduck is completely unstable and basically insane, his eyes become spirals. That's awesome, I'm not going to lie. :³
Alright, now let's move on to the 1991 version of Negaduck from Darkwing Duck. Here they will probably give me a lot of hate attacks too...
Negaduck OG is the counterpart of Darkwing Duck from the Negaverse, an evil version of Drake Mallard who went to the Primeverse for who knows why and is wreaking terror in St. Canarian... He is the leader of the Fearsome Five, a criminal genius and also one of the most dangerous villains. That's in the sense of... He has a BUNCH OF GUNS THAT HE TAKES OUT WHO KNOWS WHERE AND EXPLOSIVES THAT COULD DESTROY THE ENTIRE CITY!!!! Besides, he is a genius criminal strategist and basically almost destroyed the city and even the multiverse in one of his madnesses. For that reason alone, I really like the concept, a person who basically represents chaos in person (Paddywhack doesn't count here, because he's literally a chaos demon) and who is one of Darkwing Duck's smartest villains who almost defeated him. My main problem with him is... He's basically a version of DWD from another universe and he's evil. I don't know about you, but this sounds so generic... There's this with Superman, Batman, Spider-Man multiverse story and "What if"... It's not that I don't like opposite versions of heroes, I do... But when it's a separate character from him. Reverse Flash, for example, is a completely different person from the Flash, Dr. Zoom. Making Negaduck just an evil alternative version of Darkwing is a bit boring because it's a bit limited... Besides, they didn't properly explore the Negaverse itself... ND is a good character, yes, but it's just this lock that makes me think: "Really? One more? Okay...-_-". I like what DT 2017 did, separating Negaduck from Darkwing Duck, in the sense of giving him an identity and not making him an "evil Darkwing Duck from another reality", making Negaduck his own person. Negaduck's parallel with Darkwing Duck becomes more interesting and palpable, whereas in the OG it's kind of a tired trope. There are certain versions that I applaud standing up, like the Hulk and Batman with one of them, but otherwise it's written in a generic way until...
But then... After complaining so much, I just want to say something... This in no way makes one version better than the other, each version is different and they all have their mistakes and successes. I've seen people comparing both versions and saying that the old Negaduck was better than the 2017 one, but I think it's slightly stupid. Each version is for a different audience, if you liked it, fine, if not, that's fine too. I've seen @o-dandelion-o compare both versions and say that the 2017 ND is a crybaby (I would personally give that to the 2017 Drake, but ok...) and that the 1991 ND is superior... It was probably a joke , but it's worth highlighting... Guys, it doesn't make any difference to me! I'm a writer and I can play the character any way I want! I don't agree with the vision of certain artists, and that's okay! I respect their vision! Only that! I want to make it extremely clear that my version of Negaduck mixes these two, the original and the 2017 version. I took the concept of him being his own character, Jim Starling, but I kept the chaotic and evil incarnate essence of the original. It's an alternative universe created by me and my friend, that's all...
Anyway... I think that's it, thanks to whoever read this... Until next time...
Final arts made for @anniesilveratl2 .

Hi~ if you're interested, here's a scenario for you:
While talking with an acquaintance, the conversation drifts into the topic of anime since they learn you've watched quite a few shows already. They ask you for recommendations and, when pressed for specifics, they say something along the lines of "I don't really have a specific preference." (This is, of course, untrue—everyone has their yays and nays, and maybe this person just doesn't know theirs. Since they're just an acquaintance, you probably wouldn't know either.)
So as you look into their gleaming curious eyes:
What will you consider before giving a recommendation(s)?
What show(s) would you recommend?
(Note: this is entirely for funsies so please feel free to opt out or to take your time! ☺)
hi! i have been thinking about this question on my end and completely forgot to respond, i'm so sorry!
this is such a good situation and actually a conversation i've had when recommending media to other people already! it's definitely hard to recommend anything specific given the comfort level with the person and knowledge the other person has of their liked anime.
first, i'd ask them if there are any anime shows/movies that they've already watched! wouldn't want to give them the same one to watch twice, haha. this would also give me a good base to work off of without seeming super intrusive.
if they haven't seen any anime at all and don't express any preferences, i'd direct them toward a studio ghibli film! i watched "spirited away" and "howl's moving castle" for the first time a few years ago and enjoyed them. i also think they're a pretty good gateway into anime as a whole if one is totally unfamiliar with the genre.
if they've already watched ghibli films and want something else, my other recommendation would be spy x family (i'm biased, i know). i think the pseudo-European feel to the series feels more accessible to English speaking viewers and it doesn't have too many anime-esque tropes that might turn one off to the medium as a whole.
and if they mention liking a specific show, i'll direct them to anime in a similar genre, whether that's ones i've viewed myself or other shows i know people have loved! my experience with anime has been limited to a couple shows but i'm familiar with the existence of popular ones and can name several others based on their genre and general premise. i can always direct them to another friend with more recommendations depending on the situation.
thank you for the ask :)

Let's Talk About PingXie: Part 2
PingXie "Super Group"
If we talk about Chinese fandom, you may already know various platforms, such as: Weibo, Lofter (lof/老福特), 哔哩哔哩 (Bilibili/B站), etc. On Weibo, just like any other topics of discussion, PingXie has its own Super Group/Super Topic/Super Talk "超话" (chāo huà/ch). Super Group is a feature of Weibo which allows us to interact with fellow fans and talk about a topic of interest. To put it simply, it's like a fan group or a fan community. If you have a Weibo account, don't forget to follow "PingXie Super Group". I think it's rather easy to create an account on Weibo than other platforms. Although it's not a must, it's pretty convenient to have it.
There are so many super groups related to Daomu Biji; the major super group 盗墓笔记, the sub super group of the characters, the ships, the series, the events, the landmines, the merchs, etc. Since this is a PingXie blog, let's talk about PingXie Super Group “瓶邪话题” (mtl: PingXie Topic).
©Divider by @anitalenia
In 瓶邪话题, you can find many PingXie fanworks, some meta(s), and discussions as well. It was also my starting point where I began to explore the PingXie Super Group looking for some food :D But, please note that there are rules that you need to know and abide by before you dive in even more further. Aside from the general rules, some rules may sound strict because of the differences in our fandom cultures.
Let's take a look at those rules:
1️⃣ 瓶邪不拆不逆 (PingXie is not breaking up and not switching position)
Explanation:
PingXie is not breaking up/not dismantling. It means that PingXie should be the only one for each other, only have each other as lovers as well as s*xual partners, only love each other, and none of them has other relationships/love affairs (which also means no cheating/no multishipping/cannot pair them up with someone else).
PingXie is not switching. It means exactly what it said. PingXie don't switch their positions. They emphasize the position of Top (Zhang Qiling)/Bottom (Wu Xie). It doesn't matter whether it's NSFW or SFW. Sometimes it can be seen from the atmosphere, the vibe, or the plot that unconsciously implied the matter of the position even without making it as NSFW. To them, PingXie has always been its own ship and pretty much clear there that “瓶邪” (PingXie) and “邪瓶” (Xie||Ping) are two different ships. Thus, PingXie “瓶邪” is not representative of other ship/cp, especially the reversed version. For instance, when you saw a PingXie fanart (usually it's with the ship tag), you thought it was a good fanart, so you wanted to repost/reblog it. Since you thought there was no difference, you tagged Xie||Ping as well so that more people would know about it. However, that is not a good thing to do in Chinese fandom space. They care about Top/Bottom dynamic of the ship so much that for some people it's very important. So, please be aware of it and respect their preferences, at least when you are there.
In conclusion, it's prohibited to post or comment which has the intention of breaking them up or switching position of top and bottom.
2️⃣ 禁止梦 (banned dream-girls-comment and the like)
Explanation:
The word "梦" (dream) here refers to "梦女" (dream girl), that is the fangirl who likes to treat either Zhang Qiling or Wu Xie as her husband. It's a ship/couple super group after all. Thus, it's prohibited to post any contents or comments with this kind of attitude.
3️⃣ No drama discussion
Explanation:
It's prohibited to mention and discuss all derivative films and TV shows. Well, 瓶邪话题 is a ship/cp super group for two-dimensional characters in the book only.
You can see the rest of the rules there.
Those are some rules in "PingXie Super Group". There is also a bot for PingXie on Weibo, you can search “瓶邪bot” directly. It is where you can read PingXie's excerpts from the webnovel, the physical book, interviews, official games, and it also includes the artworks from the official manhua(s), except for dramas though.
If you are interested, you can also follow Zhang Qiling and Wu Xie's account lol. Yeah, they have accounts there, as well as the others (maybe someone made it, not sure who's behind it). As for the other characters, you can search for it directly, it's easy to find them.
In fact, PingXie fan base in China is quite fond of “洁癖” (mtl: cleanliness/mysophobia). The word "洁癖" has the same meaning of "only" in “瓶邪洁癖”, which is similar to “PingXie Only”. It is basically the same as “瓶邪不拆不逆” that I've mentioned before in PingXie Super Group rules, but “瓶邪洁癖” can be stricter or more extreme. Some of them can't accept that either Wu Xie or Zhang Qiling has ex-lovers (women or men) with any emotional and physical experiences in fanworks, especially since the canon implies that they have never engaged in a relationship with anyone else before. They also refuse to see any fanworks by authors with opposing preferences, and many more depend on each individual. It sounds strict, right? But judging by the fandom space itself, it's actually understandable. Their fandom space and culture are completely different from those here in the first place.
Even though not all of Daomu Biji fans (稻米) are into this, the number of PingXie "only" shippers is still abundant. PingXie itself is the most popular ship and has a significant influence on its fandom. I noticed that many DMBJ fan artists and writers are also into this. It may just be a preference, but the impact on the fandom itself is quite big. I don't know much about the details of its history though... it's just that, compared to other fandoms, PingXie Only in China is highly conspicuous, which is really impressive!
It's truly phenomenal!! ✨ヾ( ˃ᴗ˂ )◞ • *✰✨
At the end of the day, I hope everyone will respect each other's preferences. Thank you ^^

what's that? an excuse to get to know my super cool new mutual? get asked things >:3c 💖💖
🐀 do you have any pets? if so, please talk about them
🎨 favorite things to do in your free time?
🎸 if you could only pick one music genre to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be?
📝 what's your favorite story troupe?
📚 what's one book or series you would recommend people read? (or film / TV series if you're not a reader)
✈️ if you could live anywhere, where would you choose? (and no, it doesn't have to be a real place)
🌦️ what's your favorite kind of natural phenomenon?
🧀 do you enjoy cooking or baking? if so, what do you most like to make? if not, what's your favorite dish that someone else makes?
hello omg so many nice questions! thx mootie. >:D unfortunately don't have any pets atm but I wish to have either a cat or leopard geckos. maybe even both in the future. my favourite hobbies are gaming and drawing, but I also love writing for my ocs and reading books. I do enjoy writing roleplays with my partner and friends too! yooo definitely electronic or metal. my favourite story trope is like a totally evil villain guy getting some sort of a soft spot for one specific person and one person only. it's just cute and feels special idk. I really liked reading the witcher. but since that's probably not for everyone I can always recommend marvel comic books! especially age of ultron, civil war [both totally better than the movies...], avengers vs xmen and secret avengers! hmmm is it weird if I say I'd like to live in the Mad Max world for like a day? I mean this place is totally not meant for living but I'd like to see the badass cars... supermassive black holes! Im highly fascinated by them. but rain is also pretty cool, I guess. I kinda like both but not alone, I prefer to cook and bake with either my roommate, friends or relatives. then Im having a great time.

I thought we had left the tv trope "attractive woman is for some reason seen as uglier than a troll, is described as someone who no man will ever ever want, and then she has a glow up and againt all odds meets her prince" in the 00s.
But no, that's basically Bridgerton season 3. I don't find it believable at all that Nicola Coughlan, even in her ugly dresses in season 1-2, would be seen as so unattractive that no one expects her to ever find a match. Come on! She's gorgeous. Yes, she is the only young woman that's not size 0 in the show. But I do not find it believable at all that her size would be the only thing making people think she's unattractive. And not that the show cares about historical accuracy, but women who looked like they could bear many healthy children were generally seen as more attractive than women without any curves or fat back in the day.
Generally, I think that Bridgerton is the most skilled in mixing modern with historical among the tv series I've seen that do this. It certainly does a lot better than Dickinson or The Great. The modern music in classical interpretations actually works, and it's nice to see a period drama that isn't all white (even though a make believe world like Bridgerton where racism is gone is probably not realistic, and the showrunners have recieved valid criticism for being totally color blind. A better period drama with cast of different skin colors that actually adresses racism is Harlots.)
But I feel like Bridgerton went a bit too modern with the body ideals and the makeup. It's a prime example of art that is made about a historical period reflecting the time it is actually made the most. Also, it reflects contemporary ideas and prejudices about the past that we have. For example that young upper class unmarried women would know nothing about procreation or sex. That's most likely not true for the 1800s.
Another problem I have with Bridgerton - I do like it too, believe me or not, but there are some issues I have with it - is how it romanticizes women's oppression. Sure, it does being up how women are subject to the will of men, but still, the balls and having to marry young and being sold off is still not treated very negatively. And they could have done so much more with Eloise! She should have continued on her feminist path, met other upper class suffragettes, et cetera. But no. And apparently she's seen as the annoying one by the fandom. Tilly suddenly wanting marriage was another disappointment. That sends a message that even women who are opposed to the patriarchy eventually folds. In the books, apparently Eloise gets married too. I hope they keep her unmarried in the show but I doubt it.
I remember an interview filmed between season 1 and 2, with Nicola Coughlan, Charitha Chandran, Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey (see below). They were asked if they'd prefer to date in today's world or during the early 1800s. The only one who picked today was Jonathan. Do the rest of them not have enough historical knowledge to understand just how bad it actually was if you weren't a straight man? I know that today's dating isn't easy either but at least women have some rights now in many parts of the world. At least it's legal to date someone of the same sex in over 100 countries. And the freedom to choose what kind of live you want for yourself, to choose if you want kids or not, is so much greater nowadays compared to 200 years ago. They hardly even had access to reliable contraception back then! Imagine having 12 kids just because you like penetrative heterosexual sex. Or because your husband likes it and you can't say no. Add bad maternal health care and no C-section without the mother dying and I cannot for my life understand why any woman would prefer those days. Rant over.

Which are your favourite proposals in historical, modern romance and movies?
Omg, fun!
For movies, I immediately have to call out Crazy Rich Asians. The moment when the ring was revealed, I remember this audible gasp in my theater (including me and my mom). Such a great way to close a loop in a movie, while being super romantic and swoony.
Obviously, Pride and Prejudice 2005. I prefer the way Joe Wright did it not only to the 90s miniseries, but the book as well. The rain adds to the atmosphere and passion, the anger and tension is palpable, the way the mood changes when McFadyen goes "Mr. WickHAM", the almost kiss. So good.
For all that there is some content that hasn't aged the best, Colin Firth's proposal in Love Actually was primo. The language barrier was used perfectly, and of course the reveal that she'd been learning English while he was learning Portuguese.... adorable.
This is technically in a miniseries, but it's piggybacking off two movies, so I'll mention it... When Q tracks Shelby down in The Best Man: The Final Chapters and does a grovelprosal??? So good. Like, you watched these two, objectively the most caustic and like... edgy? People in the series, dance around each other with random hookups (and a secret baby lol) for years, and he finally has to completely debase himself in front of a bunch of watching women who are like, filming this shit, begging her not to leave... So fucking satisfying.
For books, I would have to say....
The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe and The Duke Gets Even both have really good proposals, and neither one goes well for the men in question for very different reasons. Preston's in Bride is honestly a bad proposal because he's a broken human being who doesn't know how to accept that he loves Katherine and needs to be with her, and she's like "I deserve better than 'we should get married because we make sense and the sex is bomb'" and just sweeps out and leaves him like a broken man. Whereas Lockwood in Duke is completely in love with Nellie (him being like "I fucking worship you and am completely incapable of getting anything done when you're not here because it's like my arm's been ripped off or some shit" is.... amazing) and completely capable of expressing that love, but she cannot accept it. And he knows this. But he has to try anyway because he's SO in love with her.
Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall has a great one where Valentine proposes to Bonny when he's like, hiding in a tree or something. And he's basically like "listen it's Victorian England and we're both men so it can't be legal but I want you to be whatever a husband is for me and this is VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO EXPRESS". It's adorable.
Enzo like... grovelprosing to Gia in Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli is so deranged. It's like, a quick kidnap (that's their love language), a "I can't breathe without you FORGIVE ME", a negotiation of what she needs out of the relationship (a huge ring, a long engagement, maybe a vasectomy from him because she's not sure if she wants kids, and freedom to have her career) and him being like "YES FINE WHATEVER" because he's realized he needs her like air, lol. My beloved garbage people.
The thing in A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught where it's really less a proposal and more Royce taking Jennifer to the priest and being like "marry us, neither of you have a choice and I don't wanna be here either". And then he calls her a bitch. I loved that.
There are like... three? Proposals in Sierra Simone's New Camelot trilogy (one of which is accepted) and then sort of like an on the spot private spiritual wedding ceremony with what I guess is a proposal right before? And I loved all of it. There's so much angst and so much intense longing in those books. So many times for my boy Embry to get proposed to and go "I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH TBH".
OOOh I loooove the proposal in The Long Game by Rachel Reid. There's such a great buildup to it, and it's so romantic, and I also love that Ilya and Shane go from this big emotional sappy proposal to fucking on the floor immediately after. Good for Them.
