Yapping about Inscryption

Just 'finished' (that's in quotes cause I'm not convinced that the games not DONE done) Inscryption and overall I really enjoyed it! I stopped live blogging after a certain point so heres a post to get those out.

>I wasn't too sure about the art style change in Act 2 at first, and the fact that I was dog water at the new card mechanics didn't help, but it really grew on me and so did the new gameplay!

>The other scrybes were really interesting, there wasn't a single one I found boring. If I had to rank them I'd go Leshy<Grimora/P03<Magnificus. Grim and P03 only occupy the same space because I love them both equally.

LUKE CARDER INTERLUDE

Seeing him get shot in the end really caught me off guard, and honestly shook me a little. Idk but why I didn't expect him to die, especially like that. As for the scribe Uberbot, the file deletion threat didn't get me nearly as bad since I came off of Kinitopet and knew the game couldn't actually do something like that and be on steam, but it still had me a little nervous lol (cause like what if it did?).

I got weirdly giddy at the prospect of finding the pelt man again. Idk why because I despised him in Act 1, Got a few pelts but never actually found him. Got scammed at the mart cause I thought buying the pelt would make him show up lol.

>Falling into the factory and seeing the 3 scribes just standing there scared me a little, thought they were gonna jump me.

>After that part, going back to P03 knowing what's going to happen, I felt a bit bad. At first. Sure P03's a smug jerk, but it just wanted to be free right? The walk back when it's reminiscing about the game amped this feeling up, but I love that the game yanked the rug from under me and went 'yeah no this puter just sucks' once it starts gloating. Lol. lmao. Also I didn't expect Leshy to just rip its head off wtf bro.

>Saying goodbye to everyone at the end was sad. Having one last game with the Scrybes was so bittersweet. Grimora's game was interesting, and its a crime we didn't have time for a boss battle. Leshy. Leshy I love you so much. I like that Magnificus wasn't going gentle into that good night at first, but his insistence to keep going lost him the chance to shake our hand. I was never super into his play style, but his game was really cool looking, even if im not super into that stuff. (I know the arm thing had something to do with Yugi-oh but I know nothing abt it sorry).

>The lead up to unzipping the Old Code was done so well. Grimora may have nuked the game to get rid of it, but Luke's curiosity still doomed him in the end. The totem lady's last words before we found it were quite unsettling. I don't know what was on that zip, but whatever it was clearly messed Luke up.

truly abysmal fucking communication. i didnt even know i was getting promoted to management until i was in the middle of supervisor training (which they never bothered to finish so i got like... tiny disjointed snippets of training over a period of a few weeks and then i was a manager)

i was functionally head cashier for months and they never gave me the title or the raise because i was "being trained for the position" when actually they allotted less than a day of training from the FORMER head cashier on her last day even though they knew she was retiring for months and then i just figured it out by myself and was already doing all of it

im finally going back to school and next semester when im better settled i want to transition to full time classes, so i met with my boss to give him a heads up and told him i wanted to start training a couple people on some of my basic responsibilities in case i have to cut down my hours, and he basically brushed me off and said we can talk about it in a few months.

and then he talked about his time in college for like twenty minutes and said i shouldnt overwhelm myself by working full time and going to school full time, which made it seem like he was on the same page

but then he kind of was like "well its good you want to get an education but if you go part time in the spring that kind of screws us over" so im not really sure what the fuck is happening in his brain but it almost sounds like he expects me to stay part time in school and keep working full time and doesnt want to prepare for anything else

PARTE DOS!! I have advanced a lot and finally reached the part that I wanted to reach so! (spoilers down below!!)

In the previous post I have completed the tutorial section, had only Dragon Tears #1 and #2, and completed the Wind Temple

Now I have Completed the Fire Temple and obtained Dragon Tears #3 and #4

To start off I was honestly not expecting for ppl to look forward on how I would react reaching Goron City and Yunobo. AND LET ME TELL YA I HAD A BLAST PLAYING THIS SECTION I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY

To start of cannot believe Yunobo created a monopoly JDNFGKNDFGK AND IM SAYING THAT AS A JOKE I think its cute that he's building an amusement park and such :] NOW TO THE THREAT AGAINST GORON CITY THOSE MARBLED ROASTED ROCKS I was so thrown off seeing the glowing eyes especially when I got to the restaurant at night. Then reading that it was Yunobo who dug up these marble roast. So going to Goron City and SEEING BLUDO I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE BLUDO AGAIN DKFGNDFKJ I thought he died since the previous Rito Elder, Kaneli was nowhere to be seen when going to the Rito Village. Anyways I never thought I'd see the day feeling sympathetic towards the old man AND THEN...YUNOBO APPEARS. TURNS OUT I DID SEE HIS DESIGN HOWEVER IT WAS HIS REDEEMED DESIGN WHEN I FIRST SAW HIM I-

GSDFNSHFBHJSBFJDHB I GOTTA SAY I DID LIKE THIS STORY ARC THEY GAVE TO HIM BUT I WAS JUST SO SHOCKED OVER THIS SUDDEN SHIFT OF PERSONALITY OF THIS MEAN LUCHADOR LIBRE GUY CAUSE I WAS EXPECTING THE SWEET YUNOBO I KNOW IN BOTW KJDNFGDJFNGKDJFG

I gotta admit it was so unexpected. Back to the story, Yunobo says that Zelda gave him the mask and that's where I started to raise suspicion of this Zelda character cause that was the thing that controlled him to be mean and give the gorons that marbled rock roast. Which also made me suspect the other sightings npcs have had of her (like the golden horse sidequest that I could not complete cause Gleeoks are terrifying). So I am curious on where this could go!

ANYWAYS we fight Yunobo and we break that mask of his and he's free WEEEE

MOVING FORWARD CAUSE I HAVE A LOT MORE TO SAY NOW THE FIRE TEMPLE. I mentioned in an ask a friend sent me that I ploded into a million pieces hearing the Fire Sage call Yunobo "Young, Little Rock" like...i'm taking that with me for my au thanks <3 but also huuuuuuuuu I also gotta say idk if it was intentional or not but in the beginning of the temple the music sounds sorta similar to OoT's Fire Temple theme also the fact that both fire temple occur underground!! A nice nod and call back to the Goron's first appearance! Now when you keep on unlocking padlocks the music changes and when you get to the second to last padlock the music starts to play Daruk's theme. AND HONESTLY I GOTTA BE HONEST...I DID TEAR UP DKJFNGDJFNG GOSH LIKE Daruk means so much to me and I was curious how the Fire Temple would implement previous themes similar to how the Wind Temple had Vah Medoh's and Rito Village's theme mixed in there. And hearing fragments of Daruk's theme really got me, cause you could also say that, THAT is Yunobo's theme. He has grown so much since your first encounter in BotW. A shy and reluctant Goron wanting to be just as great as his ancestor Daruk. When Link and Yunobo reach the top of Death Mountain and Link dives head first to Vah Rudania and Yunobo stands there and watches. To now in TotK, Yunobo is the first one to dive head first to Death Mountain and Link had to follow. He put himself first and I think its so amazing how much his character has developed thanks to Link and seeing the spirit of Daruk. AND NOW HE"S A SAGE!!! BASICALLY TLDR

Going back to the boss temple before I talk abt the Fire Sage. GOHMA?? AS IN?? OOT GOHMA?? AS IN WW GOHMA??? GANONDORF BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH HIS EVIL PARASITE LOOKING CRABS LOVE TO SEE THAT OF HIM

Now that I have the main story out I want to talk abt this one side quest in Goron City after you complete the Fire Temple. There are two Goron elderly brothers (the ones in front of the inn) they mention that they emerged of the ground in a cave. I didn't took screenshots of it but I think this is the first time tloz lore in general confirms where to baby Gorons come from. They emerge off the ground! I find it really interesting especially in this case they refer to each other as brothers since they emerged off the ground in the same cave next to each other. Idk I find it interesting I'll take a look on that later!

MOVING ON I got two Dragon Tear memories! I said previously that I am getting them in order so to start off with the third tear and erm...

I find this VERYYY interesting and it makes me wonder if the previous dragons Dinnral, Naydra, and Farosh fall into this fate AND ALSO that new dragon that appears in the Sky Islands. Makes me wonder if some sort of high stake moment would occur that a character would have to swallow their secret stone as their final remed . I have theories!!! But I'll have to wait and see as I keep on collecting Dragon Tears

TO THE NEXT DRAGON TEAR

WOOOOO WOOOOO YEAAAA WOOOOOOOO THIS IS THE PART WHERE THE AUDIENCE CLAPS AND CHEERS

SO...I might say this in its own separate post but I will say it here as a summary. But I think we have entered into a new era of TLoZ lore. The Triforce is obsolete in this new lore as I can tell and has new elements that were not seen before in previous games or will be improved/change for the future games. I am interested on how this would go and how the Secret Stones work. Cause with the Triforce the reason why Ganondorf was able to obtain it is cause the Triforce is neither a source of good or evil same goes when someone grants a wish with the completed triforce. The Triforce is a morally grey power object that the good guys try to refrain it to fall into the wrong hands. I wonder if the Secret Stones work similarly basically being a morally grey magical object that just enhances that said person's power/ability. (That could be the case as what the Fire Sage said about his abilities becoming more stronger with his secret stone)

As Ganondorf said it loud and clear he wants the Secret Stone of Light that Rauru has so he can conquer Hyrule. I am being light abt Ganondorf's motives as this is my first introduction to him in the game (not counting the beginning). My only hope is that we do see more of him and his character and the reason why he wants to conquer Hyrule aside from evil reasons

I am heading to Kakariko Village and Hateno Village next since all the npcs are suddenly talking about going there. And also to Hateno cause I want to customize the armor so badly and also! Hi :] so since everyone is taking a different path on playing this game this is what I have so far

Currently I have completed the tutorial section, have only Dragon Tears #1 and #2, and completed the Wind Temple

I wanted to write down my thoughts after I finished w the tutorial section but I was just so excited to play I just kept going until I finally decided to take a small break from playing the game for almost the entire day lol. ALSO I will include pics...in some parts

ANYWAYZ THE BEGINNING SECTION I NEED TO GET THIS OFF MY CHEST CAUSE I WAS LOSING MY MIND ABT IT. So when Zelda explains how the "gloom" works I WAS JSUT "...that sounds like the Malice im my au HMMM NO WAY I PREDICTED THIS MY BRAIN HUGE" JNSDKJFNSD I liked that we get to see a little bit more of Zelda before she disappears but also! I liked how she is still prevalent in the story and aids Link at some point in the tutorial section. Also I just find it funny how she appears to people like ghosts knfgskng I know for sure that would be explained why later on.

Now to the tutorial, I had a lot of fun with the shrines better yet all the shrines in general have been super fun. None of them have been a drag to me I have a lot of fun especially that you have to use your arm abilities and that stuff never gets old to me. TBH THO there were a few moments when traveling around the island where my muscle memory is to press "x" to paraglide when I suddenly remembered I don't have the paraglider JFNGKDNF I was yearning for that paraglider.

Sorta of a side note I am really loving how npcs have more personality, like Purah and Robbie just radiate so much more as characters than in BotW. I am loving so far the new npcs it makes the world feel less empty.

Now...to the moment i've been waiting to talk abt. The Dragon tear memories

Now to Rito Village/Wind Temple. First of all, the Rito Theme when its in the blizzard got me a little emotional ngl. It might be cause Wind Waker was one for the first tloz games that i introduced myself to back when I was 14 and hearing it so desolate it almost got me. AND THEN SEEING THE KIDS ALL ON THEIR OWN OUGH (I want to know where's Kass tho...).

TULIN!!! Tulin is adorable idk I enjoyed his character how his stubbornness on doing things on his own was changed to teamwork makes the dream work arc idk it was cute. Teba not being present makes sense to me as he's the new Rito Elder and all. Glad the dude is not dead KJFNGKDJNF

Now the journey to the Wind Temple was so fun it was so fun like idk how to describe it. The ost was amazing especially when finally reaching the temple when you ascend high above the blizzard storm and then you glide down and UGH it was so amazing. The Wind Temple was just as fun it felt like your good old Zelda temple and I love that so much. THE BOSS AS WELL YOUR TYPICAL EVIL CRUSTACEAN WITH WINGS AND UGH!! I Love it I love it sm

NOW AT THE BEGINNING ENTERING THE WIND TEMPLE when the voice appeared, at first I thought it was Rauru. But then I took a second take and he sounded differently than Rauru and I said "oh is this the ancient champion?" AND I WAS RIGHT ITS THE WIND SAGE AND OH OH OH OK

ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY HAVE SUCH A SOLID STORY WITH GOOD WORLD BUILD like I hope they don't blow it up. and ngl I kinda forgot abt Ganondor for a moment cause I've been so fixated over Sonia and Rauru KJNGDJKFNGKDFJ I CANT WAIT TO MEET THE FIRE SAGE THOUGH RAAHGHHGGHH AND THE ZONAI NEXT TO RAURU OUGH I FORGOT HER NAME BUT RAURU MENTIONS HER IN THE SECOND DRAGON TEAR MEMORY THATS HIS BIG SIS!!!!

One more thing I forgot to mention (theres so much stuff don't get me started to how much I love the depth) the soundtrack is phenomenal. When diving down from either the sky or to the depth it so pretty. And like I said the ost where thats building up when reaching the Wind Temple *chef's kiss* AND how the Wind Temple's theme mixes both Vah Medoh's theme (attacking and inside) and Rito Village. Reminding you what you're fighting for especially in Tulin's case

I am having a lot of fun with this game I am currently just wandering around in the Hebra region. ALSO NOW THAT I REMEMBER I WAS REALLY THROWN OFF BY THE SUBTLE CHANGES THE MAP HAS I STILL AM AND I GET IT for like ppl who played BotW make it feel completely different/new. Honestly its fun it feels like im exploring Hyrule for the first time again its nice <3

Hollow Knight spoilers, idk. its like a 5-year-old game so like whatevs but i will say if u wanna play it and haven't, it is best enjoyed without the kind of spoilers im gna have under the cut. gonna talk abt my thoughts on the first final boss. also its a longass post so, like. yaeh.

final bosses of games(i know HK has other final bosses lol) can have a lot of different aesthetic vibes. the way a boss looks and moves, the music and audio, the way the boss is framed within the environment, and the way it is depicted(or not depicted) prior to the fight itself all play into this 'vibe'. the thing about hollow knight and the battle against The Hollow Knight itself is, that 'vibe' is both extremely unusual on purpose, and incredibly emotionally heavy and complex in a tragically beautiful way.

the last game i beat before hollow knight was metroid dread. no spoilers for that game, but the final boss of dread had a very stereotypical 'final boss vibe'. fuckass huge and cunning, consciously villainous character at the height of their power: Samus's greatest challenge yet. at various points through the fight, i found myself alternating between thinking "oh fuck, im gonna get my ass handed to me" and "gonna fuck this fucker the fuck UP ya bastid". it's a good boss battle with a lot of emotional weight.

but THK(or The Hollow Knight, the character/boss itself) was.... i don't know what exactly i was expecting. THK is not a villain, but a victim. it's not consciously evil or at the height of its power. and i sort of knew that going into the black egg, but i was not prepared for what it would actually look like, at all.

it's hunched over, missing an arm, its legs are bowed out and bent all weird like it can barely even muster the energy to stand. over all else, it just looks so... tired. and that's not just in its first animation, the way it moves gives off that feeling of a being who is running on mere fumes and has been for a long time, exhausted beyond imagining but the job isn't done, and so it has to keep going, keep digging deep, keep fighting.

ok now im gonna reference a bunch of more commonly talked about theories, but hollow knight(the game) is ultimately full of mysteries within the lore so this is all very much subjective and open to interpretation.

the radiance infects bugs through their dreams, right? she gets in through their dreams and corrupts their thoughts and hopes, breaking down their higher willpower until all that's left is this base primal violence. in the pale kings famous speech in the abyss climb he refers to the ideal hollow vessel as having "no mind to think, no will to break, no voice to cry suffering", because a being like this has nothing for the radiance to corrupt. this is all, like, my cliffs-notes understanding btw, and isn't really the point of this post.

the point is that we know that THK had failed, somewhere along the line. it's thoughts, thoughts it wasn't supposed to have, had been corrupted. to have a 'will' one must have a goal, or something to fight for. something to fight against. THK was, more or less, just supposed to be vibing, chained to the ceiling for eternity. the path of pain cutscene provides the best explanation as to why this happened, but all that is beyond the scope of this post.

then there's its 'no voice to cry suffering', which THK still doesn't have - the only sound it makes is the trademark infection roar, which, well, comes from the infection. the important part of that line is actually what it doesn't say, because it doesn't say THK does not suffer.

if you really feel like tearing your heart open with a spatula, btw, look up the Pure Vessels dream nail dialogue from the godhome fight. my heart 🥺

anyways, let me walk you through my emotional experience with THK's boss battle. first it drops down from its chains as seen above, and instantly, i'm not thinking, "oh fuck im screwed", im not thinking "gonna mess u up lol".

i see that and all i can think is, "you poor thing. i am so, so sorry."

but the madness of glorious combat overtakes me. i die a few times, then decide to go get the last nail upgrade and do other stuff around the map before beating the game for the first time. i come back eventually and... die a bunch more, mostly during phase 2. then, on a run where i'm feeling pretty confident, i get to phase 3, and i actually am getting into that mindset of "its fukin over u asshole! i got this! ur dead!"

then THK starts doing this:

its fucking. stabbing itself, over and over. this is a great opening to walk right up to it and get a massive amount of damage in on top of the damage the boss is literally doing to itself. unfortunately, i mostly missed it the first time because i was crying too hard.

theres 2 main theories for why THK does this that i've heard of; one being that its doing it to release more infection out of itself to be more powerful, the second is that The Hollow Knight, with its splintering will and thinking mind, sees and understands on some level what i, as the knight, am trying to do, and is doing what it can to help me in spite of its purpose and in spite of the radiances' influence.

i beat THK that attempt. i had maybe 5 deaths in phase one, at least 10 or 12 in phase 2, but none past that. but like, i didnt want to. all that pride i had in besting this difficult opponent evaporated. all i could think at that point was "not like this. please don't make me do this."

the first theory doesn't really resonate with me, because phase 3 only introduces one new attack, where the infection itself literally picks THK up and ragdolls it into the air, before just. brutally smashing it onto the ground a bunch to try and hit the knight. this attack does double damage, but it's also not super hard to dodge. if the infection was forcing THK to stab itself to become more powerful, it was not an effective strategy. using THK itself as a blunt weapon to beat the player character to death feels, to me, more like a wrathful punishment for THK itself. the fight gets significantly easier in other ways as well; THK's terrifying barrage of rapid-fire huge attacks is slowed by extra mini-staggers and the entire rhythm of the fight gets really thrown off.

hollow knight is a good fucking game

but i did want to beat it, also, because THK is a vessel, just like me. and it had suffered so much, for so long, and i was the only one who had any ability to do anything to help it. in my mind, as a person playing a video game, i went from "i can't look at this horrific a tragedy" to "this is terrifyingly difficult" to "i'm better and stronger than you and i will fuck you up" to "no, not like this, please stop hurting yourself, please stop helping me", and finally to "i'm so, so sorry, but it will be over soon. it wasn't your fault. i'm going to fix this, but it's too late for you and i am so sorry" in one boss battle.

its kind of hard to compare much of elden rings stuff with the rest of the games tho cuz mainly theres been little actual research and reaching out to the musicians/composers/singers/etc abt the tracks

cuz bloodbornes ost was the one that broke into more general public eye as like. legit bangers of music and not just flat out horror that only fromsoft fans knew

bloodborne also very clearly has latin lyrics in most of its tracks

elden ring on the other hand has all gibberish except for the harpys sad solo song and i think one other

but no boss themes have actual lyrics (edited)

this season is def SO MUCH BETTER than s4, the pacing is still a mess but thank goodness i care about these kiddos so i’m able to keep on watching *sigh

i don’t really care about daniel tho, i mean he’s bad as a villain BUT he’s still “kinda” better than lewis. And thanks to him being kenji’s dad i do feel the stakes are high in here, also looking at the previous jurassic world trilogy? greed is something the human antagonist would have so i don’t mind that much with daniel kon’s motive yk.

I do think that daniel IS s5′s biggest problem, if you want to have a villain that brings the highest stakes EVER in your story then you gotta show how menacing and true their actions are for their goal. All daniel did is what? he’s just standing with his stupid tablet and bossing people that worked for him. I think those scenes where he’s trying to gaslight kenji is pretty good, but honestly tho they could’ve been better. The scene in the finale when kenji called him out is imo THE BEST (when he stood up from his dad yk) scene the writers ever did to kenji and his dad. THIS should’ve happened in idk ep 4 or 5??? i wanted kenji to talk about why his dad didn’t even bother to get kenji to mantah corp island and my god why the hell it has to happen in he finale???

thing is i think kenji and his dad’s conflict was stretched wayyy too far (kinda gives me brookenji vibes tbh) and this brings me to talk about yassamy, darius-kenji duo, the core arc, and why kenji and his dad’s conflict should’ve treated just like these arcs

YASAMMY : These two aweee, this season got so many of their moments together even before they’re official which gotta admit made me scared if they’d ended up as “queerbait” but god ep 9 made me relieved lmao. Anyway anyway, it only took 3 episodes for yaz and sammy being canon. In ep 6 the way yaz look at sammy? i know it’s been like that even before this episode but i think it’s a nice build up to what happens next. In ep 7 yaz actually opened up on her feelings about sammy, then ep 9 yaz FINALLY said those feelings to sammy (AND BEN BEING BEST BOI OMG which i’ll talk about later haha). I don’t feel like it’s rushed or “came out of nowhere” cause their friendship-to-relationship has exist since s1, i feel like yaz and sammy totally earned it. The best thing is this happened before the finale, there’s time to develop their affection to each other and i love that

DARIUS-KENJI DUO : so darius was like repressing his emotions when kenji and his dad locked him and the others in that chamber. When brook asked his opinion abt kenji he literally stated he doesn’t care (which holy shit broke my heart-), this happened in ep 4 and then in ep 5 he got a heart-to-heart talk with brook and able to express his anger and sadness for kenji, then took a pretty long time skip to ep 11 he finally able to breakdown all those sadness towards kenji himself. This arc only took 3 eps the same as yasammy’s, at least there’s a room to breathe for this duo’s character development in the finale tho

THE CORE : idk i think i need to rewatch the whole stuff again cause man i don’t understand what this thing meant for the island, i mean is this what turned isla nublar’s volcano?? not only mantah corp’s island that has an earthquake but it affects isla nublar too tho. Anyway the first sign of danger was at ep 4 or 5 with the earthquake, i forgot what eps when the kids needed to shut down this thing but whatever that is it got resolved in 3 or 4 eps. I’d rather have this one as the main threat tho, cause again i prefer natural threat than human’s but eh

okay so comparing these arcs to kenji and his father’s the best way to have their conflict keep going on till the finale is to have different conflicts, ex build it with kenji talking about why his dad never came to pick him (and his friends) after jurassic world then his dad gaslighting him, then him trusting his father to doubt it, then finally snap at his bs. I think these could work? just don’t stand in only one conflict yknow cause again, it felt too far stretched

And here are some bunch of stuff that i dislike other than daniel kon as a villain from this season :

Mae being sidelined, i love her in season 4 but i really feel like her character is kinda wasted in here. How she’s just turning against camp fam in order to protect them is kindaaaa meh, this has something to do with daniel as the villain tho. Like he doesn’t feels or seems like he’d hurt the kiddos and it’s proven by the others only getting locked up in a chamber. Sure he tried to kill darius with spino but like.....this happened in ep 12, THE LITERAL FINALE. So what’s the point right? anywy seriously mae decided to cross her line with helping daniel controlling those dinos kinda showed that she didn’t trust what the kids are able to do.

Brand, dave, and roxie also being sidelined, WHEN I SAW THEM I GOT LITERAL TEARS. MY PARENTS THEY’RE BACK AAAAA!!!! and yet....i got so little of them in here. Them being separated from the main conflict didn’t help either, i wanted them to fight side by side with the kids. Dave and roxie are their camp counselors anyway, they need some heart to heart talk with the kids!

The investors? i literally don’t fucking care about them. I’m happy that they got eaten tho. 

Nothosaurus whatever that called, i wish there’s an explanation on why that thing’s there. And like so close with the core thingy? just why? what if something goes wrong w it and someone tried to fix it, like what camp fam did actually

Kenji got separated from the others for some eps, the others got an actual heart to heart talk and god i think kenji needed that in those episodes. I’m glad he got it with mae tho but still this is THE LAST season so what the hell???

When they’re having a heart to heart talk the moment ALWAYS got interrupted by life threatening events LIKE STOP IT OH MY GOD LET THEM TALK AAAAAAA

I gotta admit i was kinda bored up until the episode where yaz confessed her crush on sammy with ben came, maybe because it’s sammy and yaz having an actual focus? something other than daniel, the core, or dinos, or even the beef with kenji. Anyway ben being such a fangirl for them plssss I LOVE HIM SO MUCH IN THAT EXACT MOMENT. Plus he’s so supportive aweee, i just love him being a huge yasammy shipper i swear lmao. And then him reuniting with bumpy UGH- knowing that bumpy got chipped and was mind controlled I CAN’T AAAAAAAA.

Darius and brooklynn’s friendship is just sooooo soft aweee, i’m glad that darius could just....spill his burden with brooklynn yk? i’m actually sad that he still did stuff solo but at least with him letting those burdens out made me satisfied with this season

BROOKLYNN HAVING A GODDAMN BREAKDOWN, like oh shit i know this season will have angst but this is not what i expected-

KENJI YOU ABSOLUTE DINGUS!!! i love his inner conflict with his dad, i love how he got huge character depth in the final season!!! despite my problem with daniel’s character tho i’m still happy with kenji’s character development :)

Having characters that are kids and a part of the franchise i loved and also these characters are GENUINELY GOOD which is really surprising coming from the “world trilogy” is awesome. I was 16 when i watched the first season of camp cretaceous and now i’m 17 (18 this year tho) and i’m very happy to have this show being a part of my teen-life lmao.

a/n: congratulations june! this is my first cm writing and idk how to feel abt it

you and spencer had been bestfriends for as long as you could remember. of course you had, you were the two youngest on the team. because of this, your boss had made you two partners for almost all field work. you loved spencer with your whole heart. platonically, of course. at least that’s how it started out.

you couldn’t figure out when, but at some point in time, you fell in love with the boy genius. and now he lives in your head rent free. how could you not fall for him? he was smart, funny, kind, and devilishly handsome. spencer was everything. the two of you were always there for each other. you were there through maeve, and tobias hankle, and even emily. the two of you comforted each other when you believed your dear friend was dead. and you continued to comfort him when you learned that she was, in fact, alive and he hit a rough patch with jj.

spencer’s hit another rough patch in life, and you’ve been helping him through it as best as you can. on your last case, the unsub had held jj and spencer at gunpoint and forced them to play truth or dare. the game caused jj to reveal her love for spencer, only to tell him that she was putting on a show for the unsub to spare their lives. the case caused spencer to go into a downward spiral. and you planned to be with him every step of it.

it was early saturday morning, almost four in the morning, when you got the call. you grumbled as you reached over to the bedside table and answered it. “yeah, yln,” you grumbled groggily. as you rubbed the sleep from your eyes.

“yn… i-i need you,” spencer choked out.

“spence? where are you?” you asked as you sat up, all traces of tiredness leaving your body.

“‘m at my apartment. yn i messed up really bad,” he sobbed.

“spence i’m coming okay? i’m on my way just stay there. you’re okay i promise,” you spoke as you rushed to pull sweatpants on under your oversized sleep shirt. you drove to spencer’s house, running stop signs and speeding.

you were no stranger to these late night/early morning calls. though, they’d been occurring more frequently since the incident with jj. these calls with spencer happened often, especially during times of high stress. they happened durning maeve, and tobias hankle, and emily, and a lot during cat adams. you hadn’t gotten one of these calls in a while so you were really scared right now. you could only pray to any god that would listen that he didn’t do anything stupid before you arrived.

when you got there, the scene before you broke your heart. your bestfriend was laying on his couch surrounded by tissues and blankets, eyes rimmed red with dark bags under them. you noticed a few empty beer bottles lying around and your heart got caught in your throat when you saw the three syringes on the floor. “spence…” you whispered as you approached cautiously.

“‘m sorry yn. i’m so sorry. i tried so hard. i really did but it just hurts. everything hurts. i couldn’t handle it anymore. i relapsed,” he rushed through his sobs.

“‘s okay spence. just breathe okay? ‘m gonna clean up for you, okay?” you spoke gently as you began to lift the beer bottles off the floor, butting them in the trash as well as the syringes. while you cleaned, you made spencer go take a shower and you prepared his clothes for him.

“yn!” you heard spencer’s voice call as you were standing at the counter, trying to gather your thoughts. his apartment was now cleaned and put back together. you followed his voice into his room where he laid, buried under the covers, freshly showered and in his pajamas. “i’m sorry,” he revealed.

“it’s okay spence,” you spoke as you ran your fingers through his hair.

“i relapsed…” he whispered sadly.

“i know you did. we’ll get you better though. try and get some sleep, yeah bub?” you kissed his forehead softly.

“will you stay with me? please?” he asked as he scoot over and lifted the covers for you. you agreed and slid in next to him, allowing him to lay his head on your chest. you carded your fingers through his hair and gently scratched out his scalp as he slowly fell into dreamland. “yn?” he asked quietly. you hummed in acknowledgment. “i love you. a lot. like… i’m in love with you.” he whispered.

you held in your sigh of exasperation. this is how those late night calls always ended. spencer confessing his feelings for you, just to wake up the next morning and tell you he didn’t mean it. “yeah?” you asked quietly.

“yeah… ‘m in love with you,” he murmured tiredly.

this time, you released your sigh of exasperation. “why don’t you tell me that when you’re sober, spence,” you murmured, allowing him to fall asleep as you succumbed to your own exhaustion finally.

when you woke up, the sun was shining through the window and spencer wasn’t in bed anymore. you mentally prepared yourself for the heartbreak you were about to receive again before dragging yourself out of bed. you met spencer in the kitchen, drinking his coffee and he offered you a smile. “morning yn,” he spoke.

“morning,” you murmured as you poured yourself a glass of orange juice.

“hey uh… i’m sorry. about…. about last night,” he spoke sheepishly.

“‘s alright spence, really no sweat. i’m just glad that i can help you,” you smiled reassuringly.

“and um… about what i said…” he began.

“really. it’s fine,” you quickly cut him off, not wanting to hear his rejection for the umpteenth time.

“can i please just say something?” he asked you.

“and i loved you despite that baggage! hell i loved you and all the baggage you came with! spencer i’ve been in love with you for years but i’ve never been an option for you!” you shouted. 

“yn please i’m sorry,” he begged. “please let me fix this. i want you. i want to be with you,” he pleaded desperately.

“it’s too late spencer…” you shook your head as you hastily wiped at your rapidly falling tears. “i fell in love with you years ago. i’ve been in love with you for years. but now that you’re falling in love with me… i’m falling out of love with you,” you told him as you grabbed your keys and walked out the door.

when the door closed behind you, spencer stood staring at it. full of dread. full of regret. full of anguish. he had just let go of the most amazing thing that had ever happened to him. you broke him. but you weren’t sorry… because he broke you first.

Review: Tamayomi

[will contain spoilers]

Lately I have been pretty bored with the recent developments in Daiya no A and Oofuri. New Shonen anime stuff just don't appeal to me, so I bit the bullet and watched Tamayomi for at least one episode a day.

Like me, people would normally think "HOW TF ARE THEY GOING TO PLAY BASEBALL? AREN'T THEY WEARING SHORTS??? IS THIS JUST FANSERVICE?? OMYGOD"

But I did it. I watched the whole thing. 12 episodes.

And I enjoyed it.

THE SETUP/PLOT

pretty standard fare

Pitcher Yomi Takeda accidentally reunites with her childhood friend who's actually a nationals-level in middle school catcher when they both end up in the same highschool.

School: former powerhouse located in Saitama, now baseball club is almost non-existent. Yomi and a few other will try to revive the team from scratch.

Basically Shin Koshigaya is a brand new team where they struggle to look for new members and majority are first years.

They have to face other stronger teams even when they have a few members and some decent players.

Demographic is SEINEN (like oofuri, last inning, one outs, etc.)

CHARACTERS

Yomi Takeda as Main character and pitcher- skilled, resilient, funny, hardworking, does a lot of research which enabled her to perfect her form and hone her breaking ball. She keeps improving in a good pace too.

Tamaki Yamazaki former childhood friend of Yomi. Is a decent catcher in middle school. A bit well known. Good communicator.

Yoshino - team manager and coach. srsly she is a boss. She's not infallible but she tries her best.

and other decent players with adequate skill

For a sports anime they have decent cast. This is probably the closest we can currently get of a story where the girls are just focused on the sport, do their own strategizing/planning/training. All of them are cute but also serious about what they do.

There's no boys here so there's no talk about het-crushes and other distractions. It's a clamfest babyyyy.

I've seen a little of Major 2 (the one abt the son and his coed team) and I couldn't stand it because it was just slice of life in sportsy undertones.

There is also decent communication among all the players. It's pretty refreshing to watch. The catcher is well rounded and the pitcher is good. Everyone talk things out and there is not a lot of drama.

FANSERVICE

Wearing shorts to a sport that involves a lot of making contact with the ground is just illogical lmao.

Their school uniform skirt is pretty short

A little bit of their manager prodding the thighs of each person she meets but with good reason (she can tell how much muscle/exercise a person does just by a little prodding). It's a trope thing.

That's all. There are no panty shots, unnecessary locker room nudity, boob action, see through sweaty shirts. Most of the cringy things I've seen in other girls sports anime aren't present.

Eventually I even forget that they're wearing shorts or that it impedes their performance. It seems like it doesn't matter much to the characters so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know if like the hugging or holding hands is considered fanservice. In my experiece we ladies just act like that irl. What they do is nothing out of the ordinary.

REALISM

3/5. They wear shorts and dont tie their hair up. The baseball part seem pretty decent though. The pacing of the story and matches was like watching IRL Koshien. It's all very clinical and straightforward.

Plus they include a lot of interesting baseball stuff which I haven't seen happen in early stages of other shonen anime like: specifically training the pitcher in other positions, showing what fielders yell to each other, letting other relievers start to reserve their ace (ppl can yell DnA did this but remember Tanba was injury boy throughout Act 1).

COMPARISON TO OTHER BASEBALL MANGA

based on technicality Tamayomi is prolly one of the top among baseball anime/manga I have seen.

Now don't chase me with pitchforks because of this ranking just yet. The fact that Shin Koshigaya coach's decisions and reasonings for plays and lineups are discussed makes the show at par with Last Inning and Oofuri. (we dont see DnA kataoka talk abt this sht like..ever)

Moreover Tamayomi has similar vibes to Oofuri/Big Windup but less dramatic. I do not think it's good for beginners too (especially with just 12 episodes). You need to have prior baseball knowledge to understand what the characters were doing.

However, this show is probably the most no-fuss baseball anime/manga I have watched. It does not rely on hype like DnA and it also don't have heavy topics like Oofuri and Last Inning. It's not wacky like One Outs and it's not uber slice of life like Cross Game. It's just baseball.

My minor complaint is that they don't give numbers when talking about things like pitching speed tho. It would've been more realistic if actual numbers were dropped XD

ART/ DESIGN/ANIMATION

A.k.a the thing most viewers complain about.

Character design is subpar. Everyone's faces are almost the same. You can tell who's the character not by face but by hair and height. Personally I don't mind this. I don't really look for realism in most things I watch. And I think the hair designs are cool.

Lots of people drop this show because of bad animation. There are shots/scenes where it's like I'm watching fanmade AMV's in nicovideo/youtube from the early 2000's. Pitching motions and Batting motions look like character movements in rpg games.

It's not really a problem for me though. I think it's charming for some reason. I don't mind it. A lot of people do but I'm not them.

CONCLUSION

NGL I wanted more. 12 episodes is too short. I hope a better animation company picks this up. I'm rewatching the whole thing because I enjoyed it a lot. I'll even check out the manga if I have time.

This is one of the closest thing I could get to what a decent girl sports anime looks like. If the character designs, art, animation and the uniforms were just better this show would have gone pretty far.

Compared to Shonen types of manga this was relaxing to watch, especially before bed. I'd honestly recommend it you wanna watch smth that doesnt involve a lot of feelings and drama but still feel like watching an actual sport.

Girls are fun. Finally.

I get that people reading this would think I'm being too optimistic about a show they considered shtty but I kid you not, I dropped Bakuten (boys gymnastic's anime) coz even with it's wonderful animation i thought it was boring af.

I have dropped so many prettily animated shows coz i just cant get into the characters nor the story.

I've also said before in my Two Car review that I am actively avoiding shows with popular VA's. Idk much abt female VA's in anime, therefore watching Tamayomi was the perfect solution for me.

The reason I like tamayomi so much is that it gave me the same feeling of watching Summer Koshien 2021. I just think an anime that made me remember that kind of feeling was cool.

I'll rewatch hanebado next. wish me luck.
