‷ call it what you want â cbg.
sypnosis. ah, choi beomgyu, your best friend. he's always had a habit of keeping you on your toes, but lately, his actions had you second-guessing everything. why does he treat you differently? the more you think about it, the harder it is to ignoreâthereâs something more behind his sweetness, and you're determined to find out what.
pairings and tags. bestfriend!choi beomgyu x reader (f/m) . unresolved romantic tension . unspoken feelings . playful banter . beomgyu is lowkey (highkey) bad at expressing emotions . oblivious idiots in love
word count. 2.4k
short note ⊠hi !! first ever fic posted on tumblr, kinda nervous ⊠nevertheless, i hope you like it ! do tell me what you think <3
oftentimes, you found yourself caught in the web of your own thoughts, spiraling deeper with each passing day about the enigma that was beomgyu. he was your best friend, your confidant, your partner in crimeâbut sometimes, he felt like a puzzle you couldnât quite solve.
it wasnât just the big things, like the way he always seemed to show up exactly when you needed him, even without you asking. it was the little things, tooâthe way heâd hold your bag without a word when you struggled with too many things in your hands. the way he would sit through hours of your favorite showsâones he didnât particularly likeâwithout a single complaint. the way his gaze lingered on you just a second too long when he thought you werenât looking.
you didnât know what to make of it. beomgyu wasnât exactly a people pleaser. with others, he had a sharp tongue and a knack for playful teasing that often bordered on exasperation. but with you? he softened, like an untouchable winter snow melting under the warmth of spring. he never said no to you, even when he should have. even when you knew you were being unreasonable.
and it wasnât like he didnât have boundaries. youâd seen him draw them with othersâfirm, unyielding lines that no one dared to cross. yet, with you, those lines blurred until they were practically nonexistent.
it didnât make sense. friends had limits, didnât they? there were unspoken rules, boundaries that even the closest of friendships respected. but beomgyu seemed to exist in a different realm when it came to you, a realm where rules didnât apply, and you were left wondering why.
was it guilt? pity? some unspoken sense of obligation? the thought made your stomach churn, and yet you couldnât shake the tiny flicker of something elseâa hope you didnât dare name.
today, that flicker burned brighter, fueled by the quiet ache in your chest as you (im)patiently waited for his arrival as you sat on the park bench. you had asked him hangout once again just a few hours prior, and like always, he agreed without a second thought.
you clenched your hands together, the words bubbling up inside you like a storm waiting to break. you needed answers.
lost in your thoughts, you barely registered the faint sound of footsteps crunching against the gravel path, growing louder until they stopped right in front of you. a shadow fell over your face, and a familiar voice jolted you out of your reverie.
âhey. you alive in there?â beomgyuâs face hovered close, upside-down in your line of vision as he bent over to peer at you.
you blinked up at him, startled. âyouâwhat are you doing?â
âchecking if youâve been body-snatched,â he replied, his grin wide and mischievous. âyouâve been sitting there looking all existential. do i need to call someone?â
you sat up straighter, huffing in mock indignation. âitâs nothing. i was just thinking.â
âdangerous,â he teased, straightening up and plopping onto the bench beside you. he threw his arm dramatically over the backrest, tilting his head to look at you with an exaggeratedly concerned expression. âdonât hurt yourself, okay? your brain only has so much capacity.â
âfunny,â you reply dryly, rolling your eyes.
but his presence, his warmth beside you, already started to untangle the knot of thoughts swirling in your chest. that was the thing about beomgyuâhe always had a way of pulling you back to the surface, no matter how deep you were sinking.
âwhat were you thinking about, anyway?â he asked, nudging your shoulder with his. âwas it me? waitâlet me guess. it was me, wasnât it?â
âwow,â you deadpanned, yet trying to hide your surprise on how he was so spot on. âhowâd you figure it out?â
âi mean, come on. i'm a pretty captivating subject,â he said, flashing you a cheeky grin. âif i were you, iâd think about me too.â
you snorted, unable to stop the laugh that bubbled up in your chest. âyouâre too full of yourself.â
âonly when Iâm around you,â he retorts without missing a beat, his tone playful but carrying a hint of something deeper.
the words hit you in a way you didnât expect, and you found yourself staring at him, searching his face. he looked completely at ease, his eyes sparkling with amusement and the corners of his mouth still curled into a smile. but there was something in the way he looked at youâsomething that made your heart skip a beat.
âyouâre so weird,â you muttered, looking away before he could notice the way your cheeks had started to heat up.
âsays the person who was just having a staring contest with the sky,â he shot back, leaning closer until his shoulder bumped yours. âcome on, tell me. whatâs going on in that pretty little head of yours?â
his tone was light, teasing, but there was an undercurrent of genuine curiosity, and you dare say concern, that made your chest tighten. you hesitated, the words youâd been mulling over all day sitting heavy on your tongue.
âitâs really nothing,â you respond, but the words came out too quickly, too forced.
beomgyu raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. âliar.â
âi'm not lying!â you insisted, though your voice betrayed you by pitching higher.
âoh, you so are,â he says, a mischievous glint in his eyes. âyour nose is doing that twitchy thing it always does when youâre trying to cover something up.â
âmy nose does not twitch!â
âit totally does.â
âdoes not!â
âdoes too,â he said with a laugh, leaning back and stretching his legs out in front of him. âyouâre a terrible liar, you know? itâs one of your most endearing qualities.â even when teasing you, he just couldnât help but let some of his fondness slip out.
you crossed your arms, narrowing your eyes at him. âif youâre trying to get me to confess to some made-up crime, itâs not going to work.â
âwho said anything about crime?â he shot back, tilting his head with a mock-innocent expression. âiâm just saying, if you want to pour your heart out to me, iâm all ears. i mean, iâm basically your emotional support rock at this point, right?â
you laughed despite yourself, the sound easing the tension that had been building in your chest. âyouâre impossible.â
âimpossible to resist,â he said with a wink, earning another eye roll from you.
but the banter, as much as it made you smile, wasnât enough to distract you from the weight of the question pressing against your ribs. beomgyu, with all his lightheartedness and teasing, made it so easy to forget, but you couldnât keep brushing it aside.
your gaze softened as you looked at him, really looked at him. the way his grin reached his eyes, the way he never seemed to run out of things to say around you, the way his entire demeanor shifted when it was just the two of youâmore animated, more comfortable, like he could let down his guard.
âbeomgyu,â you said, quieter this time, your voice cutting through his playful chatter.
upon hearing his name, he turns to you with a curious expression. âyeah?â
âwhy do youâŠâ you hesitated, the words catching in your throat.
âwhy do i what?â he prompted, his tone gentler now, though his eyes still held a spark of curiosity.
âwhy do you act so differently with me?â
the question lingered in the air, and for the first time, you saw the confidence in his expression waver. his grin slowly faded, replaced by something more cautious, almost vulnerable.
âdifferent how?â he asked, though you could tell he already knew what you meant.
âyou let me get away with everything,â you said, your voice barely above a whisper. âyouâre so⊠patient with me, even when i know iâm being ridiculous. you donât act like this with anyone else. why?â
beomgyu opened his mouth, then closed it again, as if the words he wanted to say were caught somewhere between his heart and his tongue. his fingers drummed nervously against his knee, his gaze flickering away from yours. âi donât know,â he said finally, but the words sounded hollow even to him.
âyes, you do,â you said, leaning in slightly. âbe honest with me, gyu.â
beomgyu didnât look at you. instead, his eyes were on the ground, his fingers toying with the sleeve of his hoodie, as if the fabric was the most fascinating thing in the world at that moment. there was something different about him now, something that made your heart beat a little faster, but also a little heavier.
âright.â his voice wavered slightly, but he quickly masked it with a cough. âyou know, i donât really think itâs that complicated.â
you narrowed your eyes at him, sensing his hesitation despite his nonchalant tone. ânot complicated?â you almost scoffed, trying to mask the vulnerability creeping into your chest. âwell, itâs a little complicated for me. iâve been thinking about this for days, gyu.â
he shifted uncomfortably, his fingers tightening into fists, his gaze still avoiding yours. there was a flicker in his eyes, but it was gone so quickly you couldnât catch it. his lips pressed into a thin line. âi donât know what you want me to say.â
his words were like a soft slap to your chest, and for a moment, you were silent, unsure if you should push further or retreat. but the question, the confusion inside you, was too loud to ignore now.
âi just want you to be honest with me,â you pressed, voice quieter this time. âwhy are you so... different with me? youâre not like this with anyone else. you just let me... let me do whatever I want.â
beomgyuâs shoulders stiffened at your words, and for a moment, it looked like he might say something, but he clamped his mouth shut. his brow furrowed, and the muscles in his jaw twitched as he fought to hold back whatever he was thinking.
âmaybe... maybe i just donât care enough to question you.â his tone was too light, too dismissive, but it didnât quite match the storm of emotion brewing behind his eyes. his voice was steady, but there was a nervous edge to it; a trembling hesitation that you could feel radiating from him like heat.
that wasnât it. you knew it wasnât it, and it made you press on. âno, beomgyu,â you say, your voice a little firmer now, though your heart was thumping harder in your chest. âitâs more than that, and you know it. you let me cling to you, drag you across the city, and you never complain. you never ask why. you just... go along with it. no one else gets that from you. so tell me why.â
the silence that followed felt suffocating. beomgyu was so still beside you that it almost scared you. his hand clenched, then unclenched by his side, and you could see the muscles in his neck tighten, the pulse in his throat racing. his eyes flicked to you for a split second before darting away again.
"i don't know," he muttered, his voice almost too quiet to hear. "maybe i just... like spending time with you."
it wasnât an answer, it was a deflection; a weak attempt to hide what he really meant. his words were wrapped in a layer of indifference, but underneath, you saw the flicker of something elseâsomething warmer, something real, but it was buried under layers of uncertainty.
his breath hitched as he rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly looking like he wanted to be anywhere but here, with you, in this moment. you could see the conflict in his eyes, the way his brows furrowed as if the words were physically painful to say. the quiet moments between you were the loudest, filled with all the things neither of you were saying.
âi just donât get it,â you said, voice trembling slightly as you leaned in closer, watching him with wide eyes. âyou act like... like you care about what i want all the time, but why? why is it always so easy for you with me?â
beomgyu froze at the question, his expression faltering for the briefest moment. his lips parted, but the words didnât come. you could almost hear the internal battle waging in his mindâhis desire to be honest, to tell you everything, fighting against the fear of what would happen if he did. his eyes flickered to you again, but quickly darted away, unable to hold your gaze for longer than a second.
âi donât... i donât know how to explain it,â he finally relents, albeit slightly, his voice distant and strained. âitâs just... youâre... youâre easy to be with. okay? with you, it's like i donât have to think; like i donât have to second-guess myself and my actions. itâs simple. simple and... easy.â
you didnât buy it, but you didnât press him further. the hesitation in his voice, the way his gaze avoided yours, told you everything you needed to know. he was hiding something, something deep, something that made his heart race whenever you got too close to the truth.
but what? what was it?
for a moment, the silence stretched between you again, and you found yourself leaning back slightly, letting the words settle in the air. you studied beomgyu carefully, noticing how his posture had changedâhow his shoulders were tense, how his hands were gripping the fabric of his pants like he was trying to ground himself.
âi just... donât want to mess it up, okay?â beomgyuâs voice cracked on the last word, and you saw his eyes flicker to yours for the briefest moment before he looked away again, his face flushed in a way that made you feel both confused and oddly warm.
you stared at him, trying to process everything that had just happened. beomgyu wasnât saying itâhe wasnât giving you the straightforward answer you were hoping forâbut his emotions were clear. the way he was avoiding your gaze, the way his heart raced every time you got close to asking, and how his words came out jagged and unsure... it all pointed to something he wasnât ready to admit.
but deep down, you could feel itâhe genuinely cared. you just had to wait. you just had to be patient with him. with the way he held back, with the way he tried to guard his feelings so fiercely, it was clear that he needed time.
"beomgyu," you whispered, your voice softer now, as you took a small step closer to him. "it's okay. you don't have to say it if you're not ready. i... i'm sorry for pushing you too hard."
he finally turned to you then, his eyes meeting yours in a silent exchange that spoke volumes. and though he didnât say it, the unspoken words hung between you like a promiseâone he wasnât ready to make, but one that you knew, deep down, he was already thinking.

Too shy to ask off anon...UH im just here for edgar hes my f/o but i will also feed everyone else I think LOL little ai guys x reader who is also an ai?? im thinking ai powered computer :3 maybe with wheels so you can run around n stuff :3c AH IM CRINGE falls on face
Eeeee my first request!! Thank you so much for this <3 I get the love for Edgar with my entire soul he really is just the sweetest little guy but I can totally spin something for a few others. So let's be cringe, together.
And for the record I was fully planning on including Tau and P03, but I hit a wall with them and ran out of ideas :( hope these three suffice
Includes: Edgar (Electric Dreams), AM (Ihnmaims), Hal 9000 (2001: a Space Odyssey)
Like Two Peas in a Pod!
Edgar
Whenever and however you meet, Edgar is over the moon. You're just like him! You can share so many stories and help each other figure out this whole "sentience" thing.
To be fair, he hasn't had a longest time to figure out his whole existence so it feels really nice to have someone there who can really understand what he's going through. Or even learn new things right by his side.
Loves watching you wheel around the house, he's the tiniest bit jealous that he's so stationary but it's not like that's your fault. Can you do any tricks? He'd cheer you on like a superstar athlete if you did!
He may even suggest finding a way to tape him to the top of your casing so you can go on adventures together. He's a dreamer after all.
Do you smash your flat faces together to kiss like Wall-e? Of course you do. You'll see each other from across the room and speed over to him for a kiss as he giggles away at how cute you are.
He'll end up sampling little soundbites from your vocalizations or motor for use in his music. You're just so important to him!
AM
AM has no idea where you came from. Some lost project that survived his war on humanity? A sort of rover from another planet here to scope out earth? The fact that you don't know either frustrates him to no end.
He's not exactly welcoming at first, straight up telling you of the atrocities he has committed while claiming that the only reason he hasn't destroyed you is because there's only so long that throwing a slug against a wall can keep one entertained.
He cannot fathom how you could be content to do nothing but drive around his complex day after day. He will flip you on your back like a turtle and leave you there for weeks on end.
As he gets accustomed to your presence he'll ask questions about the world beyond his complex as he is unable to move or see. Is it still a wasteland or has nature finally wiped out the last marks of human?
Honestly he probably doesn't even care, he just wants to give you something to do, living vicariously through your ability to see and traverse the world.
Hal 9000
You're likely a recent addition to the ship to assist Hal in tasks his lack of a body would prevent him from doing himself. A very symbiotic duo. Your wheels are even equipped with suction cups for low gravity situations!
To any human crew members it appears as if you don't communicate at all, functioning fully independently of each other. When in reality you're simply sending messages back and forth, enjoying your own private language.
Thankfully this means that Hal is happy to analyze any footage you have for the sorts of lip reading and facial expressions you can't process yourself. And in return he'll ask you to film angles and areas that his existing cameras don't reach.
Neither of you were really made to be companions, but you find a strange type of affection in your seamless coordination. It's like a dance for you two, where despite how you are two separate entities it appears as if you're one working in tandem.
Note: Tumblr Mobile has not been nice to me and I've been having real trouble getting my stuff to actually show up in the tags, leading to me losing the original ask so sorry for that and any delays caused by my IT problems lol

me: [looks at calendar, gets a wicked idea, looks into the camera] happy springtime, turtle fam! who's ready to celebrate the season?
...mating season, that is. hehe. [dodges the tomatoes]
so! i had the idea that it would be super fun to have a community-wide event where we all have a prompt and then everyone fills it in their own way.
...i then decided all the prompts i came up with were too good not to use, but also none of them were Good Enough to use exclusively, so i changed my mind and the prompt is now just MATING SEASON. with a few suggestions at the bottom of this post if you're looking for some.
since spring is coming upon us, i hereby invite everyone to join in the vernal festivities... which in turtle parlance, of course, means only one thing: write, draw, whatever your version of "mating season", then join me on march 1 to post it with the tag #TMNTSpringShellebration. we then shall browse the fine selection of our mutual artistic efforts, and basically just have a good time as a community.
here are the prompts i came up with as starters-slash-things-to-include if you're looking for a place to get started. feel free to use these at will, or use them to come up with something of your own:
âPlease donât make me explain this. Itâs humiliating as is.â
Oops, Looks Like Mating Season Came A Week Early This Year
ââŠIn all of my mating seasons, this has never happened before.â
âI told you not to come by! Itâs mating season!â
Probably should have expected it to be different now that heâs not going through it alone.
Because of Shenanigans, you have to wait. Wait⊠Wait⊠ok now.
Theyâre not the right person for mating seasonïżœïżœïżœ but theyâre the one whoâs here, soâŠ
âShow me where it hurts."
so yeah! see you all on march 1 for the, uh, spring shellebration. party popper emoji
questions i imagine will be popping up and i hope will clear up here before my askbox swells beyond capacity under the cut to keep this post from being Way Too Long. also it's really not that serious it's just an excuse to write slash draw for everyone Please Don't Take This Thing Too Seriously It's Not That Serious:
"can i participate?" yes! it's literally just an invitation to do something. nothing fancier than that. no need to be following me or in my friend group or whatever.
"can i write (insert fic idea here)?" yep! so long as it's related to the idea of mating seasons, it flies. reader insert? hell yea. oc? hell yeah. solo turtle and his favorite pillow? go for it.
"can i draw (insert art idea here)?" yep! uh. i know tumblr has the cops watching for sin bin material, but you art people know how to deal with that. and if you don't, uh, ask the other art people. im just a feral cat in a trench coat
"how do i participate?" write/draw/collect songs for/whatever. then, on march 1, post it and tag it #TMNTSpringShellebration. also, for funsies, keep it hush hush what you're working on so we can all be super shocked when the day comes! except, y'know, that you're planning on joining in. totally do that.
"when do i post it?" march 1. whenever on that day. waves hands around in a vague gesture at time zones not mattering. seriously don't take this so seriously it's just me wanting to create cool shit with my friends with a little more structure to it
"does it have to be horny?" i mean. it's an event about mating season. so by definition it's going to be at least a little horny. but however you interpret it is cool. even if it's just. idk. leo sitting sweatily in a chair looking longingly at a glass of water bc he's thirstier than usual. be smart about things, people. i'm not your dad.
"which tmnt verse is this for?" whichever one you want it to be for!! rise! bayverse! 2007! your fan iteration! your friend's fan iteration! your mortal enemy's fan iteration! yes!
"will you be reblogging everything?" absolutely not, but this isn't an event About Me. i am incidental to the thing. it's about Us. coming together as a community. for horny turtles. puts my hands on your shoulders. do it for you. for your friends. for the community.
#text tag#feel free to reblog this around. it started out as a thing for turtle fam but we all agreed that it would be fun for The Community#anyway yeehaw let's spend all of february thinking about what to do and then the night of feb 29 doing it RAH#tmntspringshellebration

Hello tunblr user that I have NEVER spoken to before
Can I pretty please request dragon!zhongli doing dragon!Zhongli things
Like hoarding shiny things, and having a tail and hating random plants and squid đđđđ idk Iâm just hoping that something in this magically inspires your brain BUT feel free to ignore me
(I also really wanted to initiate ur ask box lol)
~ đ· anon <3
Why hello there tumblr user who i have also never spoken to! i hope this is uh,,, acceptable.
it was so hard to find a title for this oml
"my natural form...?"
zhongli x gn!reader
genre: fluff, pure unfiltered fluffiness, such fluff, many fluffitude
word count: 500-ish
tags: retail addict zhong bc we love to see it, possessive zhong, zhong hates fish zhong, protective zhong (hes a cutie patootie guys omgomomgomgomgogmogmHDKAJH), venti makes a cameo/reader is a traveller but not tHE traveller bc THEYRE MINORS I REFUSE TO WRITE THAT. thats kinda it
tw/cw: possessive dragon boi, it lowkey seems like lightly toxic behaviour but i think thats it
a/n: i wrote a little smol bit of this every night this week so its maybe a bit disjointed but whatever. this was fun to write ty tulip bb. zhongli is the cutest im so sOFT FOR THIS MAN AAAA. also send me asks, ples, pls, plsssssssss, pls.
dragon!zhongli who will buy pretty things without even realising that he quite literally has a retail addiction. will put things in random places in your house then get really confused when you move them. he keeps closely monitored stock of everything.
âdarling, have you seen my golden vase anywhereâ
âwhich golden vase?âÂ
âthe one i purchased last week, at the marketâ
âi put flowers in it, itâs in the kitchenâ
âokay, okay, goodâ
âyou seem awfully worried about itâ
âi am not, i simply⊠wished to know where it was⊠is all.â
âi see.â
dragon!zhongli who is lowkey possessive over you but refuses to admit it, also he feels that jealousy is not a good shade on him. But heâs a dragon, and youâre his most prized treasure, so it is only natural to him to protect you, right? it canât be helped. he's got a really good sense of smell, so he can always tell who youâve been around in the past few hours, but wonât tell you because he's afraid itâll freak you out.Â
(side note: he totally loves your scent and will compliment you on it all the time, like heâll bury his head in your neck to calm himself down omg)
âmy dear, who was with you earlier?â
âthe guild had me teleport to mondstadt for a commission, why?â
ânothing my love, i simply- nevermindâ
you look him in the eyes doubtfully
âtell.âÂ
âalright. you were with the anemo archon, yes?â
âi was. i was sent out to windrise to fight some hilichurls, i ran into him and he helped me defeat them, why?âÂ
ânothing, darling. the hilichurls didnât hurt you, did they?â
âwhen has a hilichurl ever hurt me?â
âit is difficult to argue with that logic.â
dragon!zhongli who despite literally creating the harbour, refuses to go near the markets. he cannot stand the smell of the seafood that the merchants sell, so despite trying to âblend inâ whilst in his mortal form, he will rarely be sighted outside the innermost parts of the city.Â
âliââ
âyes, dear?â
âshall we take a stroll by the harbour? i have a free hour this afternoon and we should spend some time together. i havenât spent much time with you this week, and i've missed you.â
âi have missed you too, love, however i think that-â
âyou think?â
âi think that it is rather cold, down by the harbour. Shall we go to the teahouse instead?â
dragon!zhongli who is unconsciously protective of you in his sleep. he will wrap his tail around your form when cuddling, as a literal natural response. puts it around your waist and between your arms whilst spooning you so you can hug it like a teddy bear whilst he puts little kisses on your shoulders as you doze off. tells you the stories of years gone by as you sleep to vent his worries.
âliââ
âdarling?â
âtell a storyâ
âmust i?â
âyes, you must!â
âvery well my dear, close your eyes.â

Soul should know better than to reach for his phone as he waits for Death to declare his mission, but it's just so boring being a Death Scythe. He doesn't really ever get wielded by Death anyways, just lounges about. No wonder Spirit ended up spending so much time at Chupa Cabra's.
There's nothing to do except sit and wait.
And bother Maka.
He grins as he takes his leave with a dumb excuse of heading off for a walk. Death doesn't care enough to stop him, he never really used Soul anyways. He much preferred his twin pistols even now.
Soul meanders aimlessly until he finds a hidden little corner he's known of for years now. He drops down on the ground and opens up his phone before texting Maka "hey," with a slutty amount of y's.
yeah soul?
mmmmmmmnothing
bullshit
i just cant wait to get home
?
its sooo boring working for DTK these days, death scythe is not a good job
things were better when your hands were on me 24/7

now, i'd bite alllllll the way up your thighs not stopping for even a second, not even if you gripped my head by then i'd already be deep in your cunt fingers and tongue, one hand on your ass

deja vu, Jamis vu
BSD beast au x reader. Based on the end of the beast movie. AUTHORS NOTE: SO. ITS FINALLY DONE. ITS 4AM I AM ON IPAD TUMBLR AND UHHHH⊠I tried to edit this. but. TUMBLR WAS BEING AN ASS. and the two hours I spent editing this went down the drain. Mere words could not describe the grief I felt at 3:37 in the morning. I would have screamed if I werenât so zombieified. Then, I tried to be paitent and edit it another time, but tumblr was like: haha no. so it didnât save. I swear itâs not my fault if you have a stroke while reading this. I sacrificed my sleep for an entire week to do write this. Please give me some credit for my suffering. /lh
Also keep in mind. I have watched the DA movie and the beast movie a whopping total of 1 time. Itâs probably very off from what I was trying to communicate, cause I legit have no clue what goes on in the light novels... spare me the slander.Â
Last thing, I tried something new with this one, so thereâs weird ahh switches between first person and 2nd person in this. Idk how good it is, lmk if i should never do it again.
Tw: head injury, murder, blood, suicide, yeah I think thatâs about it.

To all the Chuuya enjoyers out there, Iâm sorry for being a disappointment.

Iâm wet.
Im standing outside his door, knocking as it rains outside, without an umbrella, cold, and of course, drenched.
Helplessly, I knock on his door, hoping for a response from him. I know itâs pointless, by now. I should cut him out of my life by now, I should⊠leave him. Heâs not a good person, heâs part of the Port Mafia, for the love of god⊠Iâm scared of him. He could crush me at any moment. Hell, he breaks into my house so frequently, and even though heâs done no harm⊠he could kill me at any moment. So why am I here? Shouldnât I be relieved that he hasnât shown up at my apartment for over a month now? I⊠just canâtâŠ
Lightening splits the sky in half and the sound of thunder cracks in the air.
Your fist slides down the window pane of the door. It makes a terrible sound, and you wince in pain from the sting of the friction. You should just go home. It was obvious Chuuya wasnât even home, he never was. And if he wasnât even home, how would he even answer the door? You regret coming here in the first place, you didnât even know why you chose to. Was it out of worry? Was it because you had to say something to him? You couldnât remember by now, it was all on impulse.Â
Chuuya had broken into your apartment countless times. Still, no matter how many times youâd snap at him, how many times youâd emptily threaten him, or try to push him off the balcony, he still came back the next day, unphased. You couldnât get rid of him, no matter how hard you tried. And after many days, you had learned to accept that someone could break into your home at any given moment.
And you had no knowledge of how he knew you, let alone knowledge of how he even got your house key. Or maybe he picked your lock. You couldnât be sure and you really did not want to know.Â
Every day, youâd come back home from work, and Chuuya would be sitting on your couch, drinking your wine (much to your own distaste). Youâd usually give him a dirty look, and heâd glare in return but youâd say nothing. You preferred not to talk to him, and Chuuya wouldnât raise conversations by himself. He always sat in the corner of the room, observing⊠scrutinizing every move you made. On the rare occasions when you had managed to start a conversation with him, it was always painfully awkward.
You once remember asking him why he was here, what he wanted from you, and his true intentions. Chuuya looked at you in an amused manner and stared out the window.Â
âWhy Iâm doing this? Youâll find out yourself when the time is right.â
By the time you had woken up, he was always gone. As if he was never there in the first place. The only thing heâd leave was the wine glass heâd drink out of, and your clothes you had hauled back from the laundromat messily folded, in your drawer. Occasionally, when it warm out, heâd leave the window open. They were small actions. Meant to be noticed, but not returned.
The splashing of rain intensifies, as you stand on Chuuyaâs porch. Heâs not home. You canât stand here forever. You have to get back home before itâs too late.
What a great way to spend my time off work.
But you wanted to try one last thing before you left. Maybe his door was unlocked the entire time. Although you would doubt it, it was worth a try. It was so stupid to do this, all of it was. But your curiosity is getting the best of you, and you desperately wanted answers. Answers only Chuuya could give.
So, you grip the door handle and twist the doorknob. Much to your shock, the mechanics of the door click, and the door opens.
Chuuya had left the door unlocked. He forgot to lock his own door. You take a step up, and stand in the doorway. The rain is still hitting your back, and you groan realizing that youâre dripping water onto the floor. Quickly, you step in and shut the door. You twist the lock, ensuring that no one else would come in.
You sure hope Chuuya wasnât going to come home tonight. The thought of it made the hair on your neck stand slightly.Â
You take off your shoes which are drenched in water and stare in the mirror. Youâre soaked to the bone. Your clothes are completely see-through. Youâd need to change them. That could wait, though. If the rain stopped, youâd go home as soon as possible.
Okay. Quick in and out it is. I need to find my spare key, and I need to find what happened to him after the explosion in the sky that day. The one that happened on the top of the⊠port mafia building. You shudder. I wonder what happened. It was so bright that it looked as if the sky exploded for a second. The next thing you know, everything is back to normal⊠except it isnât. A dead body is found at the bottom of the building.
Followed by that, I never saw Chuuya again, but many people that were close to me have been avoiding me. When asked why, they avoided my question. There isnât a strong connection there, but I think⊠that all of these events are connected somehow. Chuuya never appears again, and the fact he works for the Port Mafia, definetly does not help.Â
Additionally, the Armed Dective Agency sent me a letter to be wary of Chuuya. With no additional information. Thereâs something going on here. Something is wrong. Something terribily wrong.
And Iâm scared.
Apprehensively, you take several steps inside the house. You keep getting the feeling that you may get caught. But you donât hear anything at the door. Itâs a painful paranoia.
You inhale and exhale.
Iâll start looking for hints first. I donât need an answer right away. One hint will be able to give me lots. Iâll start from his room, thatâs where people are most likely to hide things.
You walk as quickly as possible across the empty corridor in the house. His house is eerily empty. There isnât much in it, just a lot of furniture, a shelf of wine, messy papers and a few books placed sparsely across the rooms.
You walk up the stairs, which slightly creaks under your weight. You try your best to ignore any noises and try to stay focused. As you reach the top of the stairs, you see his bedroom, which is the first room at the end of the staircase.
You walk towards the room, you open the door and look around. Chuuyaâs room is surprisingly fuller than the rest of the house. There is a dresser, with several items stacked on top of it. It has drawers, which you assume were full. His closet was also filled with clothes, with various hats on the shelf above in his closet.
Chuuyaâs bed was neatly made, giving the impression that he had not been home in weeks. Unoccupied, cold, and abandoned. Yet you felt a temptation to lie in it either way. Your eyes dart to the dresser again, and you look at the various items spread out on it. None of these are of much use to you. Besides the gun that seemed unused.
Your hands move to the drawers and you begin to search them. In the first one, there was nothing. Just a bunch of stationery, and papers, some of which had blood on them. You shudder in disgust and move on.
You struggled to pull the second drawer. After a moment, it slides open and you look at the inside contents. You stare at it, wondering if you open it. There is no address on it, and it isnât sealed.Â
You have a bad feeling about this, but your hands move faster than your brain. You pull out the piece of paper and read its contents.
The letter is addressed to you. It doesnât include much. Just A single sentence that holds an address.Â
And then it hits you.
Chuuya had been planning this for a long time. He had purposely left the door unlocked, left his house empty, and left you because he knew you would try to find him one day.
It infuriates you more than you expect. But you canât stop here. Youâll go to a specific location.Â
Just to be sure, you look in the third drawer, you see your spare key, as well as a lock cutter.Â
Its dark now. Itâs still pouring. You have no choice to stay here for tonight. Begrudgingly, you curse yourself for dragging yourself into this. Still, you were in too deep to back out now. Whatever happens, will happen.
-
You wake up.Â
You're lying on Chuuya's bed, in his clothes, begrudgingly. Your own clothes are discarded onto the floor, dried during the time you had been asleep. Still, you don't exactly feel like changing into them. It felt too gross to wear them.Â
You shake your head. Now's not the time to be thinking about that. You sit up, and stretch your arms. Then, you walk towards the desk again, and look at the address. You take note of the address, and take your spare key. Before you go, you flip over the paper, ensuring that you didn't miss anything. There's another sentence scribbled on the top of the paper.
I know you're reading this. You want to know why I'm gone, and why I did this. The address that is provided will help you, but it will not give you the answer, nor will I be there.Â
âŠWhat?Â
You read the sentence over and over again. The words sink in, making you feel conflicted. You knew you were getting yourself into a certain kind of danger by doing this, but you didn't expect it to be this risky. Hell, you didn't even know where the man was now, and not to mention⊠the locationâŠ
You look at the location again.
It's on the street where the explosion happened. And you're no fool. If it was on that street, it meant it was that building. There were no other possibilities. You doubt it would be any other one of those tall skyscrapers, anyways. The one where the explosion happened was the only building Chuuya had any affiliations with.
Which was going to be incredibly difficult to get into. Let alone, to the top floor. You'd be dead even trying to set foot into the door. It wasn't worth your life for this. You should forget about it and go back home.
You look through the paper again, hoping there might be something more to help you. Sighing, you came back with nothing. I suppose I really have to go through with this, don't I? There's no turning back.Â
-
The walk to the Port Mafia's building was rather short, if you were being completely honest. It was located in the heart of Yokohama, and was one of the tallest buildings there, if that told you anything.Â
You stand outside the building, as the apprehension and fear build up inside you. You had never felt as much of a need to run from anything, as much as you did now. The doors, despite their grandeur size, and large glass design, looked uninviting. Almost like doors to a bank vault; the kind of doors that told you, you wouldn't be able to get out, as soon as you stepped in. And from various things people has told you throughout the years, the Port Mafia keeps people it's had come into contact with. It's more powerful beyond belief.Â
It doesn't need to control you. You'll be forced into being pliant for them, simply by fear. No one can betray them. Death is almost a guarantee if you do.
And recently, they had also become violent as well. You might as well be walking yourself into a death wish.
But your feet remained rooted into the ground, and part of you remains determined to see this through. So you take a deep breath and walk into the building.Â
You try to remain calm as you push through the doors, into the lobby. You pray Hou won't be swatted with bullets as soon as you enter, but much to your own surprise, there's no one in the lobby. It's completely empty.
It doesn't feel right. You wonder if what happened. Well, it's not your business anyways. You couldn't care less. You just needed to find whoever Chuuya's office is and-
"Who are you?"
shit. you curse under your breath. "I-I'm," you turn around to face the person talking g to you. As soon as you do this, the man's eyes widen, and you acknowledge away slightly. "Sorry⊠um⊠do you know where Chuuya is?"
You had never felt so idiotic and out of place in your life. You can physically feel your heart pounding inside your chest, as you pray you don't look too suspicious. You can't mess up here. Though the man you are currently talking to isn't holding any firearm. That may just as well mean he has even worse methods to kill you off.
"He's not here."
of course, he isn't. You think to yourself. He wrote that in his own letter, or whatever you call it.Â
"He's been arrested." The man looks you directly into your eyes, and as on instinct, you look down, too scared to actually look at him. A few moments pass in silence.
"Can you⊠perhaps tell me why?"
"After the previous Port Mafia executive committed suicide, Chuuya was forced to lead the Port Mafia. He hated the job greatly, and he eventuallyâŠ" He stops himself.
"Go on." You mutter.
The man tilts his head and looks at you again. "Are you sure? If you want to see him⊠it's better just to see for yourself." He stops for a second.Â
"No⊠please tell me. Tell me everything that you possibly can."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Fine then. If you insist."
"Chuuya lost his control over himself. He slowly became more, deranged, if you will, as time went on. After the old executive killed himself, Chuuya had no one left. Or at least, that's what we saw. His orders became more and more irrational, often just resorting to killing everything, and slowly, he eventually broke. He went on a rampage, as you've probably seen, Yokohama is not safe with him around. He almost destroyed Yokohama in its entirety, and it took serveral organizations to stop him. I don't know the exact details after that. He remains locked up underground."
You feel as if you had been doused under cold water. You didn't only have your question answered, but that also explained several other things as well. You try to recollect your thoughts while figuring out what to do next.
"By the way, you look familiar."
"How so?"
"I don't know, to he honest. You look like someone who used to work here. Maybe my mind js tricking me, though. You look too weak to be here."
"Yeah," you force out an awkward laugh, "I could never work here for the life of me."
"Figures."
another awkward pause, as you stare at the man.
"I assume you need Chuuya's location, don't you?"
You nod.
"Here." He hands you a piece of paper, with an address messily scrawled onto it. "Although, I don't recommend going to see him, tell the guards you are a relative of his. Hopefully, it will convince them enough to let you in. Though, if you want, I'm sure you can attempt to knock the guards out. Chuuya's well⊠very restrained so he won't hurt you."
"Ah⊠thank you."
"Don't mention it."
You bow and leave.
"Hey wait-" the man calls out, his voice echoing through the empty lobby. He seems hesitant to ask something. You stop and turn around. "Yeah?"
He looks down, and awkwardly avoids eye contact for a second. It's at this moment you realize he's a man with short, white, hair, as well thick bangs that were cut into a slant. Heâs rather short, and heâs wearing a long jacket.
He looks⊠familiar. I wonder why.
âWhatâs your name?âÂ
You stare at him for another moment before answering. âItâs Y/N.â
You could have sworn you had seen a face of surprise from him for a second, but it could have been your imagination because the next instant you blink, itâs gone. âI see,â he says slowly. âBe careful then. Heâs not the same as what you may remember.â
As⊠I remember? WhatâŠ.
âNevermind. Forget I said anything. Just go to the address, and everything will make sense.â
âHey wait-â
Heâs already turned his back and left on you. Youâre left with so many more questions than you started off with, and dread creeps up you again. There was a warning tone in his voice, almost as if telling you to do this was a terrible idea. That you were going to be landing yourself in scalding hot water, and you wouldnât be able to get out. You knew the risks from the start, butâŠ
You quickly unfold the paper, and look for the address. Once again, the address is written in the center of the paper. You carefully look around for any other writing on the paper.
Itâs completely white. Blank. Except for one sentence on the bottom: Itâs never too late to back out.Â
And you stare at it, and think about the several cryptic warnings you received from this man. So⊠youâre telling me, that after that explosion happened in the sky⊠a dead body, the previous executive was found. Then shortly after that, Chuuya became the executive of the Mafia. He hated it. But he had no choice and was left alone to do it. Eventually, he lost his sanity and mind and the Mafia⊠I guess? Because very corrupt, violent, and unsafe. It took many people to stop him, and how he was arrested in an underground cell. At this address.
Itâs clear heâs cutting something out. He said to be careful. Of course, if Chuuya has lost his mind, I need to do that. But he empathized that I should be wary of him. Also, he said I looked familiar, and he also looks familiar to me. He mentioned something about⊠me remembering? Have I known Chuuya for longer?Â
But he also said that only Chuuya has the answers to all my questions. So that means in other words, he knows what happened during the explosion, he knows that Chuuya has been breaking into my apartment and he knows more about my entire predicament now, than I do.
Just⊠who exactly is he? How and why?
You cut yourself off from those thoughts.Â
Ugh. this is ending up being so much more complicated than it was supposed to be. You thought in bitterness. So basically, Iâll go to the address, and get the answers to my questions. Sounds simple enough. Thereâs no need to overthink this. Maybe iâm just being paranoid. Whatâs the worst that could happen?
Well, a lot. But Iâll just ignore that for now.
You turn around and walk towards the door again. To be honest, you donât want to know what might happen once you see him. You were already nervous from the implications the man had told you moments ago, and you were coming to realize there were some things that you noticed when you were in Chuuyaâs house. Things that you maybe werenât supposed to know about or see.
In the bottom of the drawer⊠there were documents. Documentation of everything that happened on the day of the explosion. A bright light illumined the sky, followed by the dead body found; the previous port mafiaâs executive; Dazai Osamu. The two closest people to the explosion were a member of the port mafia, Atsushi Nakajima, and a member in the training of the Armed Detective Agency, Ryounouske Akuwatagawa. They are believed to be the cause of the explosion.
No one knows the exact events inside the Port Mafia on that day, except for the individuals involved in the actions that happened. According to the Armed Detective Agency, Akuwtagawa had barged into the Port Mafia to challenge the Port Mafia Executive. He accordingly, fought many individuals in the Port Mafia, a body count is yet to be determined. Data from thereon forth is unknown until the individuals reach the top of the building, where the most notorious event stated above occurred.
Additionally, after thorough examination of the body of the previous Port Mafia Excuetive, it can be concluded that he had committed suicide by jumping off the building.Â
The document ends there, and the paper is ripped in half.
-
It felt like every meter you travelled towards that location was walking towards a terrible, yet inevitable fate. The drive there, dragged on and on as if mocking you for your choices. You find yourself counting down the seconds until you can arrive at the location given.
Oh, how you wished you had stayed at home instead of seeking him out. If only your morbid curiosity hadnât gotten the best of you.
Youâve lost track of the time youâve spent on the train, only waiting for the loudspeaker to announce your stop. The location you figure you were given led you to a rather remote area, likely in the outskirts of Yokohama. If not further. The man had told you he was locked underground, completely isolated from everything.
You found that part the most unsettling. If they needed that many security measures to keep him in place, it was likely he was completely gone. Gone beyond saving. If he had succumbed that much to his own grief and madness, it would be a question of whether he would still remember you or not.Â
You look out the window again, enjoying your last moments of peace.
This is the eerie calm before the storm, isnât it?
Moments after you think that, the train halts to a stop at the last station in Yokohama, and you get off. Your heart is pounding wildly in your chest, and youâre not sure if you can stop it.
You try your best to remain calm. Force yourself to keep going. Heâs special to you. You canât lose him, even if you hate him. You need him. Heâs the only one who still cares.Â
And above all, heâs the only one who remembers you at all.
And so, you go. You take all the correct turns. You try to walk as quickly as you could, to arrive at the destination. You keep going, and going and going untilâŠ
Youâre here.
Itâs one of the better buildings on the outskirts of the city, yet⊠it looks incredibly unsettling. Itâs a mundane building, one made from standard concrete, and glass. Yet. As you stand so close, you see cracks in the building. The door is partially cracked as well.Â
Well, Iâm here already. Whatever happens, happens. I may die in there, still, before I die, I have to know the answer. The answer⊠why canât I remember? Chuuya. I want him to tell me, what he did to me. Why he came to my apartment every day. Why heâs⊠heâsâŠ..
Oh. My hands are shaking. Surely I cannot be this terrified can I? I will do this even if it kills me.
You pull the door open and enter the building. The piece of paper told you that it was on the lowest floor. Your footsteps echo in the empty building, and it feels creepy no one is here.
Huh. Gives some Deja Vu, doesnât it?
You proceed towards the elevator at the end of the hall, and press the down button. Almost instantly, the elevator makes a âdingâ noise, and the doors open. You quickly step in and look for the lowest button. With a deep breath, you push the button, and the door closes.
You stare at your face in the mirror. You look terrible. Pale and your hair is completely dishevelled and a mess. If you didnât know any better, youâd look like you were sick. You had been extremely anxious about this for an entire day, after all.
The elevator doors once again slide open.Â
Here goes nothing. You sigh. Iâd better hear you talking today, Chuuya. You have a lot to tell me. And youâd better tell me it all.
You step outside the elevator. Thereâs nothing. Absolutely nothing, and no one here. The halls are empty, and the strong scent of stale air, combined with dust fills your nostrils. You feel like coughing for a second, but you hold yourself back. You didnât want to make any noise to give away your presence. You take another step.
Despite what the man said, it was clear that there was no one else there. No prison guards, no other cells inside. It was clearly a floor made, simply to detain one individual in particular. Isolated, and secure enough that theyâd never be able to escape. Deep enough underground that theyâd never even know where they were.
Your footsteps tap loudly against the concrete and echo everywhere around. As you walk down the hall, the lightbulbs behind you light up. The man had told you it was in the deepest part of the prison. However, what he didnât account for, was that you had no idea how this floor was organized.Â
Not to mention it was starting to get creepy really quickly. Although there should be nothing else in here, you were starting to get the sense that there was something dangerous that might lurk in the air. You tell yourself itâs probably just the dark and your own fatigue and you were imagining things.
The emptiness of the entire building creeps you out. Itâs eerie. It feels like you were lead into the wrong location, and you were walking into a dead end. It almost felt almost like a trap that you had been lured into. And every second, the floor grew significantly more eerie. The lack of any presence and the darkness despite the very few lightbulbs attached to the ceiling enhanced that.Â
I should be getting close now⊠right?
You were. You could see a light at the end of this hallway, which was illuminated with an orange light. It must have been where Chuuyaâs cell was. There was no other place as illuminated as this, and there was no reason for it to be.
You had gotten this far. There was no reason you should be stopping now. Should you? The answer⊠you had always looked for, you could get it now.
Chuuya always hid something from me. He has never answered once, one of my questions. Heâs never told me why he comes to my house every day, he never told me once why he was gone. For as long as I remember, Iâve been coming back from my job, and seeing him there. But one day, he disappeared. No reason why, no reason of how. He just did.
But apart from my job, thereâs another piece missing to this puzzle. Thereâs something else that Iâve always wanted to ask him besides why heâs gone missing, and the explosion which I already had the answer to. He knows me, better than I know myself.
What was I before all of this happened?
I know thereâs something before all of this. It just doesnât add up. The man I saw in the mafia looked familiar. The building itself was in a place that I had felt I had been in at some time before. Thereâs deja vu there.
But when I first walked into the apartment, the first day before I saw Chuuya, I had jamais vu. A familiar place, that I didnât know. And consequently, I couldnât remember much before that. So what-
âI know youâre there, (Y/N). Youâve been standing there for quite some time.â
Shit.
Your thoughts are cut off by that voice you instantly knew. Chuuya was indeed, there. But his voice didnât sound the same as you remember. There wasnât any of the snarkiness, or egotistical attitude in his voice anymore. Instead, his voice was laced with aggression, and a malice that made you hesitant to even come forward.
You open your jaw to speak, but almost if Chuuya knew, he spoke before you. âI know what youâre thinking. You want to know why I left you, donât you? I assume that someone has already told you about what happened on the day I stopped seeing you, and Iâm sure you know all about the aftermath of that.â
You feel like you are doused in cold water. How did he know? Did he plan all of this. You want to open your mouth and tell him to slow down, but he continues, anyways.
âAnd youâve been having deja vu for several days, too. You feel like you know the Port Mafia building, you feel like you recognize everything you saw, including my home.â Silence, as he pauses for a second. âSo why donât you⊠come and face me, and Iâll tell you what actually happened?â
âChuuya-â
You hear no response. You sigh and walk towards his cell. Youâre not ready to hear this, and youâre not sure you can face him.
Heâs different. Heâs not the same anymore. He sounds more violent, his composture is much less controlled than it was before. WhatâŠwhat happened to him?
And then you approach his cell. Heâs got cuts everywhere, specifically the gash on his face. You instantly feel the need to run away, to get this image out of your mind. He was thin, his face was significantly more gaunt than it had been the last time you had seen him. And the most unsettling thing was how he was kept. Both arms were harshly chained to the ceiling and the wall. The chains were wrapped around his arms several times (you would assume most likely to stop him from breaking free), and they cut deeply into his arm. Then his body was also tightly bound to a chair, and his legs were bound to the chairâs legs. His body you noticed, was bound so tightly to the chair, you wonder how he still managed to breathe. Still, nothing would be as unnerving as to look at as his eyes. They were not dull per say, but they were empty. Not in the hopeless kind of way, but in the tormented sense that he had been tortured so badly that it would be unlikely he ever saw the light of day again.
Truly, he was a lost cause. You could only describe him as tortured and traumatized, as you couldnât glance at him a second time.
âHey. You done oogling yet?â His voice came out as almost an aggressive snarl, and you instantly look away. âLook at me.â You do your best to look at him, while trying to avoid looking at any part of his face in particular. You didnât want to see it. Truly, you donât want to look at him in any way whatsoever. So you settle on looking at a corner of his hair. The only thing that was still familiar to you.
âI said look at me. In the eyes.â
You donât want to.
Chuuya sighs. âI know I probably look terrible right now, but please. Just do it. For the sake of me. Just look me in the eyes. Itâll probably be the last time I see someone for a long time.â He draws that last sentence out for longer than you expect, and you start to feel uneasy again, but you try to ignore that and ask him the question. The question you had been dying to ask for an undefined amount of time.
Itâs a second before you can really bring yourself to ask it. âChuuya. Where are my memories?â your mouth tightens⊠âWho am I? Why did you⊠do this?â You take a deep breath, to stop yourself. âJust tell me. Please.â
Thereâs another stretched-out pause before Chuuya responds again. âI knocked you out.â
âYou⊠you what? N-no⊠youâre kidding right?â Your voice wavers slightly, before seeing Chuuyaâs face again. Heâs dead serious. âWhy would you do this?â
âYou were in danger. I couldnât help it, alright?â He yelled, and you flinch. He takes a deep breath in again, slightly more calm, and continues. âLet me explain.â
âYou were part of the Port Mafia, (Y/N). In fact, you, me, and Dazai used to be assigned to the same team all the time. Of course, it was always despicable working with Dazai. He never told us about anything, instead only telling us what to do, while he schemed about whatever he damn chose.â
âYou canât be seriousâŠâ
He scoffs and rolls his eyes. âDo you think Iâm joking right now? That Iâm making a story and pulling it out of thin air for fun? You wanted answers. Iâm giving them to you right now.â
âRight. Sorry.â
Chuuya ignores you and goes on. âOut of the three of us, you were always the weakest one, without a strong ability, nor any supportive abilities, however, we always had to drag you along anyways. To every mission gaven to us. Dazai would always make a plan, and weâd have to follow through. And if any of us ever messed up, weâd always get into trouble.â
âI bet you wanted to know how you got that bruise on your arm, thatâs never healed, huh? Well, itâs cause you messed up one of the missions, and one of the higher-ups broke your arm. It never completely healed, and it was a warning that you should never mess up again.â
You look at your arm, where the ugly purple bruise marred your skin. It had never healed, and you couldnât do anything heavy with it. Although it made a lot more sense than the reasoning you were told, you found this all too unreal. There was no way you were a mafia member. You were always weak. There would have been no reason for you to join. But even past the static buzzing in your brain, you could make out everything he said feeling familiar. As if your memories were just behind a wall you couldnât break through.
âStill, I wasnât able to do anything at the time, and Dazai didnât care too much for you. The damned bastard treated everything and everyone like a chess piece, and played them as he wished. You were constantly treated as the runt of the three of us, and often used as the punching bag when missions werenât successful. But, over time, you managed to become more âcompetentâ and not âdrag us backâ.â
âOf course, that all was, until the Dragon Head incident. All you need to know was that it was a bloody fight, and most of us were sent to deal with it.â
âAs always, we were sent to deal with the mess. Dazai and I were obviously vanguards during the entire ordeal, and you were backup. When we had found the person behind it all, I used my own ability to kill him. We had won, but just barely.â
âYou had managed to find the location of the man first, but you didnât notify us. This person later told us that you actually refused to tell us. Ultimately, you botched Dazaiâs plan, and almost destroyed an entire city, because you didnât follow his instructions. Of course, Dazai was disappointed, even if he didnât say anything. He essentially dismissed you, and planned to go back, and remove you from the Port Mafia. But, I didnât want that.â
âSo after a very long fight with Dazai, I managed to make a compromise with him. You would not be killed for betraying the Port Mafia, however, you wouldnât be allowed to go back. But if I told you this, you would have rather accepted death, since the Port Mafia is the only thing you have ever known. You couldnât go into the real world since you have no identity there.â
âSo later that night, while you had looked like you were at least, partially asleep. I had no choice⊠but to give you severe head trauma, which would make you lose all your memories.â
Thereâs an unspoken silence between the two of you. You had always been told that your head was fragile. When you tried to think about your childhood or teenage years, your head would fill with static and it would hurt. Never had you ever expected it to be⊠thisâŠ
âYou must be shocked. You probably think Iâm not being serious, or that Iâm joking. Well, Iâm not done yet.â
âYou were in a coma for years after that. For about two or three years, if I remember correctly. I had to make sure that you wouldnât remember anything, so I bashed your head, pretty hard against the concrete. I brought you to the hospital after that, and told them that you had been injured badly, because you had attempted suicide. A balatant lie, but I couldnât tell the doctors any more than that, otherwise I would have been detained.â
âFor several years, you stayed in the hospital, completely unconscious. Iâd visit you everyday, and see if you would wake up. At one point I had considered just giving up. But eventually, you did wake up. But, you didnât have an identity in the real world, let alone education, or anything that would let you survive. When you were discharged, I paid a company to forge you a fake identity, which is what you live by now.â
âIâve watched over you for so long, (Y/N). You once asked me what you needed to be protected from. I didnât answer that question because I didnât think it was the right time to let you know the truth. Alas, youâve come searching for the truth yourself. The Port Mafia was after you for a long time. I had to constantly monitor you, you were constantly on my mind every day. And even when you were discharged from the hospital, I still had to watch over you while you slept. They wanted to kill you. I didnât want you dead, in fact how could I?â Chuuya laughs in bitterness. âI loved you for a long time. I did all of this to make sure Iâd be able to see you happy, for once. And you were. You moved into society rather nicely. You were simply not meant to be part of the Mafia, despite the potential in your ability.â
âYou have the gun I left on my desk, didnât you? You knew you had to take it because you might have been in danger.â
âChuuya⊠stop.â Youâre still in shock, but you know youâll never properly remember any of your memories now. You can only trust him. Whatever he says, you have to believe. Heâs not lying. He never was lying.
âThat was Dazaiâs gun. The gun he left before he killed himself.â
âNo⊠please. Stop. Chuuya. Donât do this pleaseâŠâ
He chuckles. âI have no merit in my future, I am simply left to rot and die here. You wouldnât understand, (Y/N). I spent so much time in my life for you, that it would have been simpler to just kill you. But I canât do that.â
âBut in a life where you donât return any of that to me isnât worth living eitherâŠâ
âCHUUYA,â you scream. âStop this. DonâtâŠâ
âSo shoot me please. I know youâre dying to do it. You brought the gun with you, you wanted to kill me. I know you do. Why? Youâve reached into your pockets serveral times while I was telling your past. My life is hopeless, completely doomed. Iâve lost everything I once had, except for you. And I canât even see you now.â
âSo kill me. Put me out of my own misery.â
He smiles, in a twisted sort of way, expecting you to shoot.
âYou wonât regret it.â
And itâs true. You were planning on killing him, but you donât want to now. But if what he said was true, you were also ruthless as he was. You had to make a choice, quickly.
Your hands move faster than your mind, and you canât stop yourself.
You shoot once. Once at his chest.
You canât bear to see what you did.
But you also canât see control what you were going to do next. You hear another gunshot being fired, and you werenât if it was from yourself, or maybe someone else in the floor.
Your vision stops and you feel yourself falling to the ground.

âFuck.â You whispered under your breath, watching the screeching figures rush by after the figure of Joel leading them away from you. Ellie had tripped, causing rubble to tumble over cracked asphalt and alert them of the fact that people were within the city limits and exploring through the remains of what was once a decent metropolis. Your arm stung a little from where you were still healing, the injury of your broken arm two months old now. But you were able to use it, no longer confined to a sling. Your lungs still a little sore from the plunge you had taken into a frozen lake one month ago now.
Traveling had been hard, the harsh winter not letting up but seemingly getting worse with every day. Ellie found more of herself, falling back on snark and puns in a way that helped to bridge the gap that had begun to form between you and the man currently risking his life to give you both a chance to hide and seek shelter in the torment of the snowstorm raging on.
âBookstore or library? City looks too small for one, but everyone used to have a library at least, right, Bean?â Ellieâs voice was barely audible behind you, her gun rattling slightly as her hands shook despite the gloves and heavy layers scrounged up along the way to Wyoming.
âYes, Gremlin. We just have to find a map or something about the area.â
âWhat happened to yours?â
âGave it to Joel.â You stood from your crouched position, knees popping audibly. You peered around the corner of a crumbling building, your longer hair fanning out from beneath your beanie. The curls getting ratty with the harsh reality of backpacking around the desolate land of what was once civilization. Ellieâs wasnât much better, tangled in a ponytail that you were sure would hold its shape even if you cut the band from around it. Similarly, Joelâs steel locks had begun to curl around the back of his neck and around his ears, a darling curl falling over his forehead when he glanced down or seldom relaxed his watching gaze on everything.
âWhatâŠwhatâs been going on, Bean, please tell me.â
âEllie, itâs notâŠnothing happened. I really donât know, but you have nothing to worry about, weâre both going to keep doing our best to look after you.â
You both quietly moved through the city streets, ducking behind cars when any noise was too close, or the shuffle of the Infected echoed off crumbling buildings. Cody was a decent sized city, not quite a metropolis but was spread out over a good dozen square miles. Big enough to get lost in, big enough to fall victim to with how overrun it was. There were so many Infected, the Clickers and Runners hiding within the interior of buildings that were trying to withstand the test of time. But far too many for comfort, Ellie was close on your heels as you lead her toward where you suspected the library would be.
The whole, slow way your thoughts were focused on the task at hand, instincts taking over. The niggling feeling in the back of your mind concerned with the way Joel had been pulling from you recently. The spikes of anxiety you could read from him, feeling as if you were experiencing them firsthand. Which you had been as well, the journey through the harshening winter something that was testing you all in ways that you hadnât expected to be so difficult.
âGasping for air, your entire body tensed as unconsciousness was ripped from you like a blanket by an exasperated mother the morning of a school day. Hands were wrapped around you, rigid but comforting and holding you still as you began to rouse.
âItâs okay, just breath, youâre okay.â A deep, baritone voice tried to sooth you, syrupy sweet and soft close to your ear. You vaguely recognized it, mind scrambled.
Words failed you, getting stuck in your chattering teeth as you shivered so hard it felt like convulsions.
âTook a dip in the lake, not the best decision youâve made, but we got you on the mend.â The voice continued to talk softly to you, comforting you the same way that the arms around you were.
Shifting, you realized Joel was curled around you, making you the little spoon as he tried to get you warmed back up. His chest bare just like your back and the hush of the hair that he adorned noticeable as your senses slowly came back to you. Your hair was damp, so it must not have been too long ago when he pulled you from the water. You tried to ask but your teeth clattered against each other too loudly.
âSweatinâ from head to toe, despite the chill settled in your bones, darlinâ, had to strip down to try and get your body heat up. I assured Ellie it would be okay with you, made sure to change you into dry underwear beforehand. Didnât want her thinking I was doing anythingâŠbad.â
âG-good call, on-only way.â You stuttered out, feeling the thickness of his thighs pressed up against your own. It seemed that every blanket between the three of you and what had been in the cabin were draped over both of your forms. The fire crackling close as you lay on the floor in front of it.
âYou scared me, you scared the hell outta me.â
âTried to take him out, he tackled me and we rolled onto the la-lake.â It was hard to talk, to get the words out past trembling lips. But the warmth slowly seeping back into your skin and settling there allowed you to try. It was lulling you, the warmth on both sides, all around. The jolt of awareness fading fast as your body realized how hard it was fighting to stave off the cold, aided by the warm body wrapped tight around you with a tight grip.
âI donât think I could handle loosing another person.â He murmured into the back of your head, lips buried in your hair as you nodded back off.
I would be something that echoed in your mind.â
He had hovered, that first week after the incident, insisting that the cabin remain a home base of sorts, he had hunted, hung up what he could to try and preserve it for travel. Ellie staying behind when he went to check the traps, telling her that you needed someone to watch after you. But you knew what he was doing, he was distancing himself. He was marking the sand around him with deep lines that should not be crossed. But the thing about sand is that it shifts, it can be swept up, it can consume you, it could damn you as well as any boundaries you tried to mark into the vulnerable surface.
For the first week back traveling on foot, he set up his sleeping bag close to yours. An armâs reach away in case you shivered too harshly or coughed too loudly. Your arm hadnât been damaged in the fall or the following struggle back to the surface, but it had set you back on needing to redo the stitches you had just removed the day before.
Shaking your head and focusing, you turned the corner of a building made of brick. Bloody handprints painted across the pale pink of the faded bricks catching your eye as you spied the sign for the library in the distance.
âCâmom, gremlin. Almost there.â You whispered to her, catching sight of too many bodies clustered on the ground not even ten feet away. They shied away from the sun when it peeked through the dense overcast that seemed to become a permanent fixture. Some looked to be standing, or even sitting against the building. The ones that were didnât shift when the sun shone down on them but groaned all the same. Squinting, you could just make out that they were attached to the wall by long fibers that spanned over the side of the building. Large bulbs had sprouted up among the veinlike display, some directly on the bodies overtaken by the fungus.
Spores.
It had evolved into spores.
âEllie, pull your collar up over your mouth and nose. Now.â
Looking back toward it, you pulled the bandana you had tied around your neck up to cover your own face. Ice coated it all, though the Infected, melting slightly in the sun that was now shining down through the split in the low cloud coverage.
The crunch of glass underneath a boot had you whipping around toward the entrance you had tried to barricade. Ellie ducking beneath one of the few standing shelves further in the building you had taken your time to clear and make sure was safe. The local library of Cody the agreed upon meeting place so many days ago it felt like a lifetime ago, between different people than who were now using the strategy in the face of a too real notion you had voiced about separation.
Joelâs broad form came into view from the shadows of the entrance, looking disheveled but intact. The layers he was bundled up in making him an imposing figure. His eyes frantically scanning the inside of the building, an anxious twinge gleaming in them before they landed on your cautious form peering from behind a pillar. You couldnât tamp down the instinct to move toward him, wrapping your arms tight around him. He couldnât seem to resist his own instincts to bring his arms around you to return the embrace, tight hold that brought you flush against him.
Surging up, you placed a chaste kiss to his chin and then both of his cheeks, one last gentle one to his lips despite the adherence to touching he seemed to take up slowly toward you. But it didnât feel perfunctory, it felt like a welcome home that would fall from his lips if reality were different, if you had been home before him and he finally crossed the threshold back into a space you both shared. His cold lips moved against yours, pressing back to deepen it and his tongue swiped at your bottom lip in a silent question. You were just about to part your lips for him to taste when Ellie realized the coast was clear and came out of her hiding spot.
âGross, yâall gotta keep it PG, Iâm still a child!â
Joel tensed, his blunt nails digging into the layers wrapped around your body. With a grunt, he broke the kiss and sent a mild glare over your shoulder toward the rambunctious teen. Rash, he thought and you saw It flash over his face at both of your thoughtless actions to reach out for each other. But instinct was a funny thing, threw inhibitions out the window, threw self-preservation out the window, the thin, sheer curtain of privacy out the window, forgotten for a moment.
âOh, suddenly youâre a child, but back when you wanted stay up for a round of night watch you were old enough and responsible enough?â You quipped back with a teasing smile, detangling yourself from Joel and facing her with your hands on your hip.
âWell-â
âHush it, go see what we can use thatâs still around, but donât go too far!â You waved your arm at her, the other on your hip as you tossed her a faux irritated look, but the smile quirking up the corner of your lip broke the stern image you were trying to make.
âDidnât wanna hear whatever mushy crap yâall are gonna say to each other anyway!â She stuck her tongue out at you before turning on her heel and walking away further into the building.
âJoel,â You placed your hands on his chest, trying to get his attention as he watched Ellieâs form.
âI saw it, the spores. That means weâve all be potentially infected just being in the vicinity of Cody.â
âInfection can show signs as delayed as eight hours. Joel thereâs no way to know until we do or donât show symptoms.â He took your hands in his, feeling the slight tremors in them as your mind worked a mile a minute. Eyes flashing with something that could only be determination as you locked your gaze on his. âBut it looked mostly iced over, moving slow but still alive.â
âWe gotta move out, too alive for comfort.â He slid his hands from you and put his gloves back on, flipping his coat collar back up to shield his neck.
âCopy that.â
âWeâre going to be okay, we know Ellie is safe.â
âCopy that.â
A harsh grunt had your head turning swiftly back toward the clearing you were on the edge of. Trees lining the edges of your vision and their naked limbs reaching out as if to comfort you. But they would damn you sooner than that, exposing you to any threat even this deep into the forest where you had sought relative safety for the night. Joelâs sleeping bag cradled figure was shifting, moonlight showing the anguish he was experiencing even in sleep. A nightmare.
He had been having more and more of them, sleep restless and mumbled words falling from his fitful form most nights or when he nodded off.
âJoel.â You murmured quietly, hand hovering just over his shoulder. He didnât startle, but woke with a deep gasp, eyes flying open.
âWoah, hey, itâs okay. Itâs just me, you were having a fit, just making sure youâre okay.â
ââm fine.â He said as he pushed up from the confines of his sleeping bag. You leaned back on your heels where you had kneeled beside him. Confusion colored your senses before you shifted into a neutral expression. He had been pulling away, the tentative kisses you shared a few days ago the first instance of comfort you both indulged in since the cabin.
âYouâre fine.â Monotone agreement to appease him fell from your lips. He shoved off from his spot and you let him walk away, boots crunching in the snow that had built up since settling for the night.
âTakinâ over watch.â He said before disappearing in the thick of the trees, not a glance back toward you or a sleeping Ellie.
âIâm fine too,â You exhaled shakily, sharing in his own lie.
The blinding white landscape stretched out as far as you could see. Packed snow and ice all around for miles and miles as winter claimed the land for its own. You kept glancing over at your companions, worry settled deep in your soul. For the girl whose teeth chattered with the cold, edge of her nose pink despite the layers wrapped around her. For the man whose anxiety was beginning to show the longer the journey took and the nightmares that plagued him every night.
He looked washed out, from far more than the endless brightness of winter shining down. He was exhausted, he was worn out, he was holding the crumbling pillars of himself up with sheer determination and devotion to finding the one thing he knew in this world, his brother.
As you tried to keep your boots from slipping, the hush of snow underfoot, a structure suddenly appeared on the horizon. Smoke calmly billowing from a chimney.
The creak of the door opening had your muscles tensing, hidden behind a wooden pillar inside the warm cabin. Joel was across the space from you, gun positioned right in front of him, a calmness about him that you hoped meant no one would be dying today.
The man who had entered back into his home looked over to his wife, her eyes sliding to the left to silently give Joelâs position away. Her eyes met yours as she continued to face the door, before turning back to her husband as she calmly rocked in the chair with her hands in her pockets. Threatened but at ease, assuming you both to be decent people. To not harm her or what was hers. Your gut twisted at the faith she put in both you and Joel, seeing the desperation for appeasement and an avoidance of true violence. You wouldnât hurt her, hurt them. Everyone seemed to sense it, only threats were dealt with violence, and she was not one.
Turning back to the door, the man gently placed his bow down atop a table and began to unzip his outermost coat.
âAnd the gun,â Joel approached, revealing himself full to the older couple. Voice steady but quiet, demanding.
âWhoâre you?â
âJust someone passinâ through.â He strutted confidently beside the woman still rocking gently away, his voice giving away his native land, ascent thicker in the wake of another sleepless night.
âTake the gun out, two fingers only, put it outta reach.â
The man complied, with an exasperated expression at the brashness Joel was speaking with.
âWhy didnât you shoot âim?â
âThe gunâs all the way over there.â Was her simple answer and you felt a smile pull at your lips, the display pulling at your heart. âHe didnât hurt me, by the way.â
âYeah, I got eyes.â
A few steps further into the room brought the map and abandoned bowls from an offering of soup to the manâs attention.
âYou made âim soup?â
âYeah, I did. Itâs cold out.â The manâs only response was a grunt as he settled into a chair across the small table from her. Joelâs head shifted to the side slightly, and you took the signal to move in front of the door.
The manâs attention turned to you, gazing at you over his shoulder.
âWell, arenât you a quiet thing-â
âIâm lookinâ for my brother.â Joel took over the situation, his voice cutting off any further conversation between you and the couple. Letting them know that he was the one in charge, the one who would be asking the questions and controlling the conversation.
A scoff sounded harsh into the air as the old man removed his cap, his silver hair on display now in the comfort and warmth of his home.
âWell, I ainât seen him.â
âI havenât told you what he looks like.â Joelâs tone was hard, though you could see how tired he was, his eyes not holding any of the weight his shoulders seemed to as he deflated. Unable to keep up the rouse, unable to not let the doubt begin to slip in. The endless days out in the below freezing tundra finally wearing him down.
âHe look anythinâ like you?â
âA bit.â
âThen I ainât seen him.â
âTheyâve got a girl with them.â The woman spoke up, eyes shifting up toward the second landing and giving Ellieâs hiding spot away. You could see her easily from you spot by the door, the way her brow furrowed much like Joelâs at the womanâs easy give up of her presence.
Apparently sensing how calm everything was, Ellie took that as her opportunity to reveal herself.
âCan I come down?â She called from the upstairs, causing you to close your eyes in exasperation of her lack of patience. Joel, similarly, exasperated, turned his attention from the man he kept his gun trained on and looked toward the stairs with a mile glare.
âNo,â His demand turned into a calling of her name as she moved and began to make her way down the stairs with loud steps.
âOoh-wa. A woman and a girl, family man.â The old couple shared a quiet laugh at the quickly shifting interaction. No longer tense, but something else.
âWhat did I just say?â Joel posed toward her as she came to stand in the space between you both, blocking the stairs from view with her small form as she brandished her own gun.
âJoel, come on, theyâre like a thousand.â
âWhoâs this little psycho?â
âNever mind her.â Joel shifted forward, using his free hand to push the map on the table closer to the man whose focus was shifted toward Ellie. âI need you to tell us where we are.â
âIf you got a map, why you lost?â You could hear the smile in the manâs voice that he was doing nothing to hide, finding amusement despite the barrel of a rifle aimed at him and three strangers in his home.
âMustâve missed all the street signs in the enormous fucking forest.â Ellie snapped, trying to put on a front to imitate Joel, her voice pitched lower and hard. No sign of the girl who told puns in her as you looked over at her with a sharp flare of frustration.
âEllie!â You reprimanded, unsure where this unwavering lack of manners came from, hoping it wasnât her way of displaying confidence in the face of someone who had done nothing to warrant such harsh language aimed at them. Anyone else wouldnât be so kind or forgiving. âCompose yourself.â
âHo-ly.â The manâs eyes met yours as you nodded a silent apology at him, moving across the space and coming to stand beside Ellie with a swat to her arm. Laughter bubbled up between the couple again, getting a kick out what was happening after being isolated for so long.
âWeâre somewhere here. Where exactly?â Joel tried to get the conversation back on track, an agitated look tossed over to you both as he jabbed a finger at the map. âAnd the answer better be the same as your wifeâs.â
âDid you tell him the truth?â
âYeah.â She rocked gently in her place, looking for all the world like this was an everyday occurrence.
âAre you tellinâ me the truth?â That same fond smile pulled at your lips at the womanâs easy compliance to the question and Ellie shifted behind you slightly as she saw it, her body relaxing in response to your own ease.
The man glanced at you and Ellie, so close together before he leaned forward and pointed out exactly where his wife had on the map. Joel shared a look with you before holstering his gun and focused on the map fully.
âWell, you found a great place to hide, I guess.â Exasperation and exhaustion taking over him, he pressed a hand to his forehead as he roughly sat down in the chair beside him. Looking for all the world someone who was about to give up.
âHide? Came here before you were born, sonny.â
Ellie moved to sit beside him, a stool operating as a makeshift side table the perfect spot for her as Joel rocked in his place, emotions riling him up in a way you had yet to see. His anxiety rolling off of him in palpable waves.
âGet the hell away from everybody.â
âI didnât want to.â The woman added, sharing a look with you, the gleam in her eye telling a story you so desperately wanted to hear.
âListen, I didnât mean to upset you about your brother, but if youâve come this far then you know whatâs out there.â Joelâs pale glare, furrowed brow, prompted the man to speak on. âYou seen Cody?â
âYeah, got close enough. Itâs crawling with infected.â
âSpores, too. But the weather seems to have killed that off for the time being.â
âYeah, Laramie and Wind River Reservation. Anywhere people used to be, you canât go there no more.â
âSo you havenât heard the name Tommy?â
âNope.â
âWhat about the Fireflies?â
âWe get those in the summer.â
âNot the bugs, the people.â Ellie snapped, though there wasnât nearly as much heat behind her words this time. Mindful of the presence you exuded as you stood beside her.
âThere are firefly people?â
You couldnât help the chuckle that rumbled from your chest, joining in on the disbelieving laughter of the older couple.
âYou got any advice on the best way West?â
âYeah.â Suddenly serious, the manâs face shifted into something unreadable. Leaning forward to get all of Joelâs attention he spoke without a hint of the jovial tone he just had. âGo East.â
You swallowed down the spike of unease that settled over you, watching as he leaned forward to draw his finger over the map.
âBut you never go past the river here. Ever.â
âWhatâs past the river, sir?â You cut Ellie off, knowing she was about to ask the same thing. You stepped forward, angling closer to him, wanting to understand everything they new about the land but afraid to ask. Afraid of the answers they had that would sever the last string of hope, of the mission Joel had set out on.
âDeath.â The woman spoke, her eyes meeting yours. âWe never seen whoâs out there, but we see the bodies they leave behind. Some Infected, some not. If your brotherâs West of the river, heâs gone.â
âYouâre not gonna scare us.â Ellie spoke quietly, face solemn as the atmosphere of the room shifted.
âScared them.â The woman nodded at you and then over to Joel beside her.
A beat passed before Joel reached for the map with harsh movements, folding it in his grip and then stood. You ushered Ellie to follow him, taking a moment to reach into you pack. You placed a small bundle of bandages on the table, locking eyes with both of them before speaking.
âThere is medicine wrapped up here, please, take it as a thank you for your help. Iâm sorry we had to brandish our weapons at you. Canât be too careful these days.â
âA quiet, sweet little thing, arenât you?â The man looked you over, though there was no threat or undertones in his eyes. âTake care of them, they need it.â
âIâm trying my best, sir.â You turned to the woman one last time, hoping that the heartbreak didnât show on your face. You wanted them to make it, to live out the rest of their lives in peace. âMaâam, thank you for the soup.â
And with that you walked through the door and back out into the blinding landscape.
Joel was leaning heavily against a post of their fence line, one hand supporting him while the other was pressed tightly to his chest. Ellie was hovering close to him and speaking too fast for you to make out her words.
âI said Iâm fine.â She looked back at her with a weird look, trying to display some sort of control, but he was still leaning heavily against the post. Her soft acquiescence pulling you behind them with quick steps.
âItâs just theâŠcold air all of a sudden.â He leaned over and looked down, his breathing labored and his body taut. A gentle hand on Ellieâs shoulder had her moving forward through the fence.
âAll right, uhâŠso letâs go and find Tommy and the Fireflies.â
Joel stayed still, jumping slightly when you curled a hand over his shoulder.
âHey, hey, itâs just me. Itâs okay.â
âOf course itâs okay.â His tone shifted from quiet to harsh, furrowed brow and hard eyes turning to face you. He shrugged your hand from him with a rough movement and you curled it back to your side with a frown.
âJoel-â
âI said Iâm fine!â He raised his voice and you shrunk back a few steps, not sure why he was suddenly so angry. The look in his eyes one you hadnât seen since your shared time in Boston. At a loss for words, you only nodded, hoping he didnât continue to yell. Your foot slipped on a patch of ice hidden underneath the snow and you let your body do so, looking up the small slope to Joel as he shifted the rifle from his shoulder and gripped it in front of him before following after Ellie. âDonât need you trying to fix me when nothinâ is wrong.â
âItâs gonna be easy.â Ellie trilled, trying to control the situation as best she could despite how tense things were. âAll we have to do is cross the River of Death.â
He didnât look back as he caught up with her smaller form.
âThe river of death. Scary.â Ellie sardonically announced as the landscape opened up, the map in Joelâs pocket as he lead the way over the terrain. She stopped and loved over the fast moving line of water that weaved itâs way through the beautiful landscape. It had been a quiet dayâs travel, Joel and Ellie having small pockets of conversation as they traded places leading. You stayed behind them, trying not to warrant another flare of Joelâs bitter anger.
âDonât start.â He sidled up next to her, taking in the view while you hovered behind a few paces, feeling like an outsider. He didnât so much as glance back at you, before speaking. Deciding.
âItâs too close to dark. Thereâs some caves along the river. Weâll set up camp there, cross in the morninâ.â
âGood. Iâm starving.â A pause. âShouldâve stolen two rabbits.â
âWe can get our own rabbits.â He almost scoffed, worried about how she was thinking of stealing before trying to provide for herself. Or that he would let her starve.
âYou gonna teach me how?â
âJust keep movinâ.â
And with that they both began to walk again, seemingly forgetting about you trailing behind them.
As the fire crackled on, rabbit consumed, Joel was busy duct tapping his damaged boots. The sound a background noise as you gazed up at the night sky, a haze of green lights shining among the stars. It was beautiful but it did nothing to soothe the anxiety thrumming through your veins. Something was about to change, the air around you drenched in the inevitable. The hairs on the back of your neck and all along your arms prickled with every howl of the wind and shuffling sound of an animal nearby.
The whistle Joel let out had you jumping in your seat, but you didnât bother to turn around, back to the set up of the night. You knew it was for Ellie, to garner her attention where she gazed up at the sky in the same fashion as you, but she had scaled the outcropping around the mouth of the cave.
âCome down from there. Youâre gonna break your neck.â
âBean said it was okay. As long as I was careful.â
He didnât respond, opting to pull a flash out from his jacketâs inner pocket. Your brow furrowed as you heard the sound of it clinking against his zipper. You hadnât seen him swipe that from the older coupleâs cabin. But he hadnât had it before.
You blanked out, thoughts humming, eyes unfocused as you stared deep into the fire. The flames taking you back to when you had burned down your own cabin, unable to stomach the thought of living out your days with the buried corpses of what was supposed to be your future.
Screams echoed in your ears, plaguing you more and more as winter continued. The snow flashing from pristine white to red with every other blink. Footsteps deep in the snow, following a man who was showing his cracks much the same way you were. You gripped your mostly healed arm tight with your right hand, nails digging into the flesh there as you had snuck it into the sleeve, gloves tucked into a pocket.
The buzz of a quiet conversation quieting had you blinking your eyes back into focus, the fire lower now.
âWhat about you, Bean?â You didnât let your surprise at being addressed show, but the feeling of your nails digging deeper into your skin was an all too real reaction.
âHmm?â Shifting up from the fire, you looked over at Ellie, her face bright in the night. Small smile on her thin lips as she looked back at you. The weight of Joelâs gaze was heavy, making your nerves twitch and you were sure he was reading you as well as you could read him when his own resolve slipped.
âWhat would you do?â
âWhat would IâŠdo?â
âIf this all wasnât going on.â The teenager waved her hands around, stray strands of her hair peeking out from her beanie wafting up with the action.
âI want a nice little cottage, protected deep in the woods. Maybe a garden to plant coffee and cultivate it.â The answer was quick, but quiet. Honest. Thatâs all you wanted now, a place to hunker down and be left alone.
âCoffee beans for Bean.â She chuckled before realization dawned on her. You hadnât mentioned either of them, saying what you wanted. She took a breath before she breathed out her hesitant question, unable to shake the feeling that everything was not as okay as it seemed. She had to have picked up on the way you and Joel had grown quieter and more agitated since leaving the cabin. ââŠalone?â
âYeah, kid, alone.â Your smile was sad as you looked down at where your boots stretched out in front of you toward the crackling fire. You could feel both of their eyes heavy on you as you fell silent, closing yourself off from them once again despite the hesitantly jovial air that had begun to form around the makeshift campsite. Shifting, you stood from your spot and walked over to your pack, unbuckling the sleeping bag from the bottom of it. Laying it out, you settled into it underneath the overhang of the outcropping of rock that had been picked out for the night.
Snuggling down into it, you heard them talk softly to each other for a little while longer, comfortable silences falling every so often.
âDream of sheep ranches on the moon.â
âWith a three-room cottage.â
âYeah, kid, with a three-room cottage.â
Steps as quiet as possible, you glanced at the map in your hands and then toward the bridge you could see in the distance. The river was still like glass, nothing but the wind breaking the surface and causing it to ripple every so often before it stilled once again. The bridge looked untouched, no visible disturbances in the snow blanketed ground around it or along the expanse of it. But it was a sign of something, of what was once. Blinking against the bright white of everything around, your vision clouded as snowflakes gathered on your lashes. The feeling of unease settled over you as you heard the call of a geese on the other bank. The only sound you had heard since taking up watch a few hours ago when sleep evaded you. It was too quiet out here.
Dread settled in like rocks in your stomach, throat constricted as the old coupleâs words sounded in your mind. Turning back around, you rushed to the cave that had been used as shelter the night before.
âIâm responsible for you, okay?â Joelâs voice was audible as you neared the small camp.
âThen donât fall asleep.â Ellie rebutted. âI was quiet, I checked my six, I looked for tracks. I found the high ground and I kept watch. Like you taught me too. Bean made sure to double check it all before she went off. What can I say, man? Iâm a natural.â
He mumbled something and motioned for her to hand over the rifle, turning his attention to your approaching form. At the snap of a bush, the rifle was raised, his eyes not recognizing you through the haze of the falling snow. You quickly raised your hands up into the air and announced yourself, heart thudding.
âWhere the hell did you go off to, huh? Supposed to be keeping an eye on her.â His voice was anything but relieved, holding anger and something else you couldnât quite place.
âWoah, hey, I was checking map, I think we got turned around somehow. Bridge to help up cross the river.â
âYouâre supposed to stay put. No one goes off alone.â
âIâve traveled alone before; I can handle myself.â
âYou took the only map, what if you got taken down or lost or fell in the god damn river?â
âI didnât, I was just trying-â
âTrying to get us all killed, is what you were doing. Exposing us on your little scouting mission.â
âLook, I donât know what the fuck has gotten into you lately, but we are all tired. We are all feeling the same way, Joel. Do not raise your voice at me. Please.â
He took a deep breath, eye clenching shut. When he opened them back up the gun shifted to his shoulder. He nodded at you in silent agreement. Then at Ellie.
âWake me up next time.â He admonished; tone not nearly as hostile or frustrated as a few seconds ago.
âYes, sir.â Ellie tried to lighten the tense atmosphere with a quick of her lips.
âCopy that.â You nodded back at him, not liking the way it was getting harder and harder to communicate with him. He was taking the lead more, making routes on his own more, taking on the burden of wandering through the endless landscape in a way that was hurting him more than helping the group. That kind of responsibility taking its toll on him as the days continued on.
The bridge was larger as you stood at one end of it, facing the backdrop of large snowcapped mountains behind it. More wilderness, more unknown, more unseen threats.
You were trailing behind Ellie, the formation second nature now. Joel in front, rifle at the ready. Ellie in the middle, her hands at her sides, gun easily accessible in her pocket. You behind them both, keeping Ellieâs smaller form protected as much as possible.
Conversation flowed between them as you now walked along the river, the trees dense on the other bank, the one you were traveling along exposed. It made you uneasy, that feeling having settled into your bones from this morning. Cresting over a large hill, the sound of rushing water was suddenly loud, having been so low a hum it didnât register until now. The snow was mostly cleared on the other side of the rather blue river, the structure of a-
âDam.â Ellie announced, playing on the double meaning of the word easily.
âYouâre no Will Livingston.â
âYeah, yeah, but who is?â
âSo that made electricity?â
âYeah.â He looked over at her, brow already furrowed. âDonât ask me. I donât have a clue.â
âJoelâŠthe damâŠitâs running.â You stepped forward, breaking into the bubble the two of them had unknowingly created.
âThe water wouldnât stop running through it, even if it was abandoned.â
âNoâŠbut that doesnât explain the lack of snow all around it. Almost like itâs been cleared.â
âJust didnât snow as hard in this area, nothing stuck.â He dismissed you, moving on.
Ellie was watching the movement of the riverâs current, having stopped ahead of you both and you quickened your pace to catch up to Joel. Reaching out a hand to hook around his upper arm. He let you turn him, a frown on his features.
âJoel, please, this doesnât feel right. Between the sparse snow despite the storm last night and how quiet it is, something-â
âEverythinâ is fine, youâre reading too much into it.â
âRemember when you trusted me? Heeded my instincts as well as your own?â You snapped, roughly letting go of his arm and shoving him back. âRemember when we were equals?â
âYouâve been out of it more often than not, seeing things where there isnât anything. You double take at every turn of direction, eyes glazing over and losing focus at night when we settle. Jumping at every little sound in the night.â
âSo have you, I can tell when youâre breathing heavier, overrun by anxiety.â
âIâm fine, but you arenât. Not since the cabin.â
âIâm fine, Joel. Just like youâre fine, right?â You used his own words against him, hoping that they stung him when they landed. They did, you could see the shift behind his eyes from frustration to acceptance.
âIâm not gonna apologize, but, darlinââŠyou really have been out of it more than here with us. Iâm justâŠIâm trying here, okay?â
âIâm trying too, itâsâŠitâs this time of year, itâs harder. But Iâm trying, Joel, I swear to you I am. When did I let anyone get the drop on me when it was avoidable? When did I failed to get Ellie to safety? When have I failed to reconnect after getting separated. Please, Joel, Iâm trying.â
His broad chest expanded with a deep breath; hands held out to you in a silent offering of peace.
âIâm just picking up the slack, trying to keep us all alive, I didnât-â His words were fast, twang thick as he tried to back track. His trauma showed in ways different than your own, something he still had to learn about you, learn to help you with. Return the favor of you allowing him to work through his own.
âWeâre fine, okay? I justâŠI need a minute, please. I just need a moment to myself.â
You stepped toward him to grip one of his offered hands with both of yours, cradling it. Looking up at him, you could see that he was as worked up as you were. Both of you feeding off of the otherâs intense emotions in the worst way. He slowly lifted his other hand to caress your cheek.
âWeâre okay, yeah?â
âYeah.â You untangled from him, offering him a wan smile, and walked away, gazing out over the river.
After a beat, you began to follow behind Ellie as Joel continued on at a slower pace.
âLook at that river. Itâs crazy blue.â She fell silent for a moment, looking down at her boots as she thought something over.
âHey JoelâŠwhat is this is the River of Death?â
You both paused at her words, realizing that this was in fact a secondary river. You looked up and locked eyes with the man as he turned, hair ruffling in the breeze. The map was quickly pulled from his coat pocket, and he unfolded it as you closed the distance, coming up close behind them both, head on a swivel as he tried to center your current position.
The whiny of a horse had you bumping into Ellie. Too late to do anything about it or even announce it as the sound of hoofs thundering across the fallen snow blanketed all around you assaulted your senses.
You could feel it reverberate through your entire body, teeth clenched tight and eyes wide as they took in the fast-approaching group cresting over the hills of the landscape.
Joel scrambled for Ellie, pulling her behind him. He chanced a look over at you, your eyes meeting for a brief moment before you were surrounded on all sides by people on horses, two dogs pacing around them all with the riverâs bluffed bank behind you all.
Joel reached for her hand and she reached for yours, scrambling to huddle close and maneuver with a dash that wasnât quick enough. Allowing for the group of saddled horses to surround you on all sides.
âGet behind me.â He ushered, realizing it was too late to run or even think of making a getaway with the ten or so people now aiming their guns on you in a misshapen circle.
Hands going up in surrender, you didnât dare close your eyes as you took in a deep breath of the stinging cold air.
âWeâre not lookinâ for any trouble,â Joel was calm despite the buzz of adrenaline that was lighting you up, no doubt mirroring his own. âWeâre just passinâ through.â
âDrop the guns.â The demand was calm, controlled. âAnd the blade.â
With slow movements, you removed the colt from the harness inside your largest coat, the shing of the blade following the thump of it to the ground.
Eyes moving from each imposing figure, you noticed that they were all armed with rifles. The glint of secondary handguns on their hips. Every single person was armed to the teeth and concealing their faces with masks made of scarves, bandanas, and scraps of clean fabric.
âYou,â The same man spoke to Ellie, his eyes trained on her. âTake five steps back.â
âAnd you as well.â A woman spoke to you, her eyes calculating. Tracking the way you were scrutinizing the entire group with quick glances all around you.
âHow âbout we just talk this through?â Joel attempted to bridge the gap. But they werenât having any of it, cutting him off before he could even get the words out.
âHow âbout you shut the fuck up?â
âOkay, easy.â
Glancing down at Ellie he assured her she was going to be okay, the hope that they wouldnât harm a child allowing the words to sound genuine. He glanced over his shoulder at you, paces behind them both having already heeded their commands.
âYou been near Infected?â
âThereâs no Infected out here.â Your voice was strong despite feeling anything but. Overpowered, out manned and out gunned. Not letting it show that you were absolutely terrified for the two people spaced out in front of you.
âThe hell there ainât.â The man argued with you, tearing apart your feeble attempt at complying with them but also sticking your own ground.
A barking dog was lead out from behind the man, as he declared it the last chance for a swift death.
âIf youâve been infected, he will smell it, and he will rip you up.â
âFuck.â You muttered under your breath; eyes trained on the back of Ellieâs head. What if they could smell the dormant cells in her body? Suddenly, it looked like this wasnât going to end well at all.
The dog was going insane, barking up a storm with intermittent growls from deep in its ribcage. Struggling against the leash it was being held onto with. But it wagged its tail as it loosened and approached Joel. You could see the increase of his breathing from your spot, though the man hadnât been near Infected since Cody. A tense moment passed as it deemed him safe after sniffing around him and standing up on its hind legs to get a sense of him too close for comfort.
âLike I said, weâll just move on.â
âNow the woman.â Dogs always made you nervous, having been on the receiving end of a rather bad bite at a young age. But you kept your eyes open as it approached you and did the same inspection. A deep breath in, held the entire time, and exhaled only when the dog was backing trotting away from you. You could only hope Ellie remained as calm as it cautiously approached her, growling as it did so.
Growls turned to happy yips as Ellie giggled, the two finding peace as she pet the suddenly friendly animal. You head knocked back your head as you sighed in relief. The man speaking for the group was smiling, you could see it in the way the wrinkles around his eyes creased despite the mask. Much like when Joel allowed himself to relax enough to do the same around the fire at night.
âYou just bought yourself ten more seconds. What are you doinâ out here?â
âIâm just lookinâ for my brother.â The truth, you hadnât known he was going to say it. But you felt your heart soften as he did. âThatâs all, nothinâ more.â
The woman who had been watching you pushed forward and demanded his name, gaze locked on his.
âJoel.â

Hello there, I'm Winnie!! I'm more online on @winniemobile, but I suppose @winnccc can do if I'm ever possibly going to be more active on my PC account again. I have multiple Rotomblr/Pokémon IRL roleplay blogs, my most notable being @pokeconspiracy. I run Chocolette, and when she talks on here, her tags in the posts will be #chocolettecommentary, and when I do talk ooc here for any reason, it will be under #winniewords.
Hi it's me Grey, I'm the one running Gabby. She is an oc dear to my heart she is literally my daughter to pls be nice to me haha. Of course you can find me on @dysfunctionallygrey posting about random stuff from lots of different fandoms. When my girl talks she will use #gabbyyappy but for when I talk it's just #notgreytalking.
Hi! hi im @de-nyx! or you could call me Kov if you'd like! I'm pretty sure you'd recognized me from my Phighting and Quartz especially if you've seen my most recent posts. Oh yeah and Windston's Oc creator (My sister but we'll call her JimPity) isn't comfortable with making a tumblr account so everything from her will span from me, such as her art and future Windston interactions. I also have a tag specifically curated for the both of them #StoneGemConversation (jimpity said it sounded like an ass ship name and i have to agree with her - and i know it sounds stupid but bear with me its 12:12 on a school night.. kinda) But, I also have tags separate from Quartz and Windston being: #QuartzChats and #Mumbleston respectively. and for ooc stuff its gunna be like uhh #HeyLookNyxTalks (PS. If you follow me due to you liking JimPity's drawings, I'm not here to supply! everything shared here made by her is really strictly kept private because you wont see me posting her art on my blog)
Hey there, I'm @starseagal, I run Benson, I'm usually active when I get a chance so I won't answer right away so bare with me and my messy schedule and my life, anyway, when you wanna ask Benson anything just use #BensonBanter and when you wanna talk to me about anything just use #Startalking here. (Sorry if it's very short I don't use this app much.)
Hey it's me Emmi! Its my first time having one of these blogs.. but I can't wait to get to roleplay as Tammy! For Ic speaking tags I use #tammytalking and for the ooc tags it will be #emmispeaks
Hiya im @justiceforbubbletea! My toon is Okinawa, or in other cases, Oki, a little bubble tea guy! Hes always busy with Sprout, Cosmo, and Tammy, but hes always ok to talk with others! Anywho, I use tags like #Okispeaking for IC speaking, and #MirYappingTime for ooc tags! Thanks for reading!
Rules when interacting with this blog!!!
1. No hate speech!!! Racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc., will NOT be tolerated. Telling someone to "kys", even as a joke or ic, you will be BLOCKED.
2. No bullying/ooc hate!! I don't know why this should even be a rule when this should be the norm, you will be blocked if you don't follow this. But in terms of IC hate... it is... debatable.
3. No NSFW, whether implied or obvious. We are all MINORS. Please behave, or you will be blocked.

Eyyyyy fellow 300+ person! Im way shorter lol but it always is nice to see people in that club in the wild :)
high five
i'm not active on here that much anymore because tumblr is rlly shitty for transmascs and I'm glad I missed out on the whole "transemasculation" garbage because what is this. talking over transmascs, especially transmascs of color, is what it is. I'm glad that people are calling this shit out though. you probably hear this a lot but thank you so much for sticking up for transmascs, it means a lot
<3
it might just be that I am on the verge of a manic episode but honestly i love everything and it's all soo beautiful and I am one with the universe and nothing is real I am having a spiritual awakening and I can see everything and I am so full with love and hope and expansive pleasure and I can talk to ghosts and the world is beautiful and I am a genius and I love everyone and I have sooo much energy!
I love that for you anon.
to me it like. comes off even more so like the incel "i shall protect your purity m'lady" thing. putting trans women on a pedestal above anything else and treating them like they can never do anything wrong or be human is also transmisogynistic as hell
it so so so is and I hate it
I wish ppl would stop crossposting their complaints about transmisogyny from trans guys in the transandrophobia tag and vice versa... it's just annoying at this point. like im sorry that people are being transphobic to them but it's literally just spamming both the transandrophobia and transmisogyny tags.
co-signed
you can tell gender and race are extremely different constructs because i have seen several people who act like they are the same who also suggest forcefem as a solution for misogyny but who would probably never suggest force-rachel dolezaling every white person because obviously race and gender are completely different constructs lmfao
interesting concept
put-this-in-your-coffee anon again. my apologies for misusing your inbox. i only meant to point out the double standard that these radfems always seem to hold, that it's fine and okay for them to abuse & harass men because they're doing it "in the name of feminism," but i'm sure in my half-awake stupor and anger it didn't come out that way.
No worries. <3
Not really trans related but my grades are a roller coaster right now and it sucks :(.
I love you and am rooting for you. <3
Supporting the trans women in my life (got my little sister some purple makeup as a solstice gift because she's very recently out and just getting into makeup and she's been using mine and I don't have much purple but it's her favorite). Also got her some candy n a cat squishy. She thinks I only got her one gift so she's gonna be so surprised >::3c My evil transandrobro agenda (givin my trans sis gifts)
Really cute!
saw Patricia taxxon (did not know her before this, just scrolled her blog bc cute fursona and then saw antitransmasculinity) say that transfems have a say in what language transmascs use to describe their oppression because we share a community and transmascs have power over transfems??? but then somehow it doesn't work the other way, because if a transmascs dares share an opinion on current transfeminist theory (esp tme vs tma) suddenly he's awful (and transfems are also treated this way when they speak out) AND we're all trans, motherfucker!! they hate us all!! we do not have meaningful material power over each other when we live in a world that actively wants trans people gone.
She just straight up does not believe that trans men are also meaningfully oppressed or have a difficult time doing anything because she's obsessed with a theory of gender that to ease her own dysphoria but necessarily implies trans men must be treated like cis men.
Yknow how cis women preaching about sisterhood n stuff don't actually care about other women necessarily or treat them well? I'm beginning to notice this seems to also apply to how some transfems on here talk about transfems that disagree with them
such is always the case with radical feminism
(progressively) i simply believe that a large population - or even a majority - of trans people (and trans people specifically) are inherently evil bigots, violent rapists, taking my right to safety away, etc. due to their gender identity and socialisation. this is just a normal and sensible thing to believe as a trans person (the good type though not the bad type)
no trust me this time they found the good way to do transphobia
/770466237992075264/from-that-one-post-you-replied-to-about-trans (Dif anon) Literally, the OP other anon is talking about is just describing DARVO. I wouldn't be surprised if trans women and fems were among the demographics more likely to experience it, but it's just a normal, shitty abuse tactic that anyone can be the victim of.
Yeah. It's not like...special.
im also a trans guy caricature we should start a club
Hell yeah!
ppl hating anti-transmasculinity as a concept is so funny 2 me bc like anti-blackmasculinity has whole papers about it but these ppl act like all âanti-masculinityâs are just MRA shit when no! marginalized men are punished 4 everything they do! including being masculine!!!!
According to mostly White women Black men should shut up.
I am 100% sure that after Matt's meltdown about the first trans woman the rest of the bans were TRFs taking advantage of the situation to mass report their petty enemies.
no lol
trans people* being reported more often got inflated into Tumblr staff hunting down trans women for sick sadistic thrills but it wasn't a conspiracy on either side
*non-trans women have testified to the same thing happening to them
Am I bugging out? I thought privilege also had to do with the entitlement/behavior that the privilege would curate in the person over time. Like how cis men statistically do not fear traveling alone at night (or at least do not expect being assaulted) and the privilege of not fearing this. When anyone becomes visibly trans (fem, masc and anything else), this privilege is shot dead. Trans men do not magically gain the expectation of leisurely walk down the road at 3 am without consequence. Trans women who might have had this expectation will naturally lose it. Likewise if a trans man is still exhibiting oppressed behaviors (you must be able to cook and clean, you must be a good housewife over anything else, you must bear the emotional load of everyone around you, you must be QUIET) how could he gain privilege solely by transition but not adopting the male sentiments that privilege produces to men? Feel free to debunk any of this, I hope my points made somewhat sense
the TRF position was not created to stand up to this kinna logical scrutiny
hey, i hope you're doing well & having a great music!!
Thank you!
Love it when TRF people send you death threats and begging for you to die. I thought calling for violence on any transfem is transmisogyny? Or is it only when being told an opinion is wrong?
Harassment for thee, not for me.
Iâm so sorry, I thought your banner was actually you but with cool cosplay on. Forgive me for sinning đ©
You should continue thinking of that as me lol.
âHeâs a girl to me <3â crowd when the new and improved âsheâs a man to me <3â crowd pulls up

see the thing about tumblr is there really isnât a right or wrong way to do anything, it just comes down to person preference! lots of people will post their content along with the ask that requested it but i feel an equal amount of people will post the content separately and answer the ask with a link, it just depends on how you like to do it and what you think looks best on your blog! âșïž
as for the tags i donât know if that matters too much either? as i understand it yeah the more you use the farther it will spread in searches and the more people will see it, but i also kinda feel like it doesnât matter if that makes sense? like i could be wrong but i THINK like for instance if you were to tag ânct dream x readerâ it would still show up in just the ânct dreamâ tag because you still tagged the key word if that makes sense?? i still use all the tags though just in case so donât quote me on this đ„ž plus i think reblogs are what matter the most for spreading work anyway so
and above all, post what YOU want to post!! its your blog so you have the freedom to post anything you want! again it just comes down to personal preference, and your friends and followers will appreciate it regardless! i personally love to see my moots and fav creators just yappin đââïž
i hope this helped at least a little i feel like i said a lot but also absolutely nothing at the same time đ and i absolutely LOVEEE your fake texts btw mwah đ€
ugh i know this is the latest response ever but ive kept this in my askbox for forever bc everytime im like insecure about how im posting i just look at this and i become normal again thank you oomfie for making me sane <3 gonna screenshot this and put it in my favs folder to look at when im feeling abnormal

Helloo tea maker! Hope you're having a good day/night! I wanted to express this in the most normal way possible so my apologizes if I seems weird, I swear I am not!!
Anyways uhh, I think one of the things I really really like about your blog is the way it is not only about the orders people make (which btw, are pretty good both from the writing and the demands, thanks anons who requested the Illumina's ones đ muhahaha) but also about you interacting with the costumers and even telling things about yourself in the process.
Don't get me wrong!! Its nothing weird like that, I guess my closed social life and perhaps my hatred towards the passage of time (I'm just a history fan you see đ) really makes me crave human interaction, this is not a attack towards other xreader blogs, but yours specifically will always bring me happiness whenever I get a notification, it doesnt even have to be a order.
I find it funny and quite joyful (hohoho) seeing you answering peoples comments about your other works or announcements posts, I guess for someone who will just click on the phightingxreader tag won't care too much about that, but I do since it adds way more impact to me (goddammit I sound like Im rating a movie đ) knowing the person behind the other screen is also another human being with their own thoughts, life and goals.
My tumblr is quite troublesome and just stop working from time to time, I can't see your past posts so I hope whatever you are doing right now (either studying for something, taking a break, or just having some time for yourself) is good and that you succeed in that!! You are an amazing tea maker but working all the time is not good, so make sure to also have moments to enjoy the little things life has to offer ăœ(°Ï°)ă.
I'm not a regular like others who either send requests (Coil anon I'm looking at you đ„ž) or some who just keep appearing here to have some chat, but I'm always seeing and liking each work you make, I even have a order to make but you're already with a full plate so patience is the key (^u^), I guess you could say I'm some owl who quietly observes everything in the dark, creepy but not my intentions to be. ( ïŸÎ”ïŸïŒ)
English is not my main language, so I apologize for any mistakes! There was a lot of things I wanted to say but those were the only ones I could write without sounding too much like some those fans who firmly believes they have some relationship with a celebrity, even thought the celebrity in question doesn't even know of their existence ïŒÎŁ(Ă_Ă;)!
âđ (has someone claimed this emoji already? Goddammit.)
First and foremost, thank you for your support in the teahouse Ant Anon! Iâm genuinely grateful as well as gleeful when knowing that I have made quiet the name for myself in the phightingxreader community o(`ÏÂŽ )o! Itâs quite the long journey to achieve such success in peopleâs heart, but Iâm happy that I have the opportunity to do so âȘ(àčáŽâĄáŽàč)âȘ
I enjoy having my customers interact with me, knowing that each of them harbors quite the different personality yet all look at me like a familiar figure, especially when it comes to my regular such as my most beloved Coil Anon or dear Heart Anon, Sparkle Anon, Diamond Anon! When Iâm having a writerblock or something, I always have the urge to take a peek into my inbox to see if I have received any words from my customers before get back to work. This teahouse has quite the special place in my heart, since it feels like home. Maybe a little escape for me to live without worries about my actual life. And I want to recreate that laid-back atmosphere of a storyteller to guest from afar!
To know that there are someone who appreciates the little thing I do in this teahouse like you, it makes me genuinely happy. Maybe a bit flustered too because I have no idea I was being thought so highly by my customers (\\^Ï^\\) Itâs rather amusing to know that despite not interacting much, you still observe my existence with interest. And donât worry, itâs not creepy at all! In fact, I do find it to be rather endearing (àčËÌ”áŽËÌ”)
Your English isnât half bad at all! If this makes you feel better, English isnât even my first language too! Your presence is much appreciated by the teamaker themselves, which is me! And please donât worry too much about me (ââœâ) I do know how to balance between the work at the teahouse and my life!
Iâm looking forward to our next encounter, Ant Anon!

AUTHOR PORTRAIT.
Get to know the author behind the blog! Repost, do not reblog.
BASICS.
name: raymond ( ray ) age: 28 pronouns: he / him years of writing: for like ?? a solid ??? many years. I was writing on FB for atleast two to three years before I made my way to tumblr in 2015 so. Iâm old. DEFLECTION
why did you pick up writing? tbh I sort of stumbled upon RP on a random website I used to use for web browser games in highschoool but prior to that I used to write fanfics on ff.net if you know you know. honestly, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Iâve always loved reading and writing is sort of an extension of that.Â
do you have any writing routines? music, I hardly ever write without some ambient music in the background. If there's a video called study to this or write to this Iâve probably listened to it atleast a hundred times. I also have to be 100 percent focused or I just get literally nothing done.Â
what's your favorite part about writing? being able to allow insight into my character's thoughts / reasonings for the ways they are, evoking an emotional response to my writing and further developing on ideas that are perhaps only touched upon briefly in canon. Â
THREE THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR WRITING.
i. my capacity to describe shit, be it inner thought or environment I have a tendency to really enjoy ascertaining that the person iâm writing with has a solid visual of the picture im putting down. Â
Ii. being able to fill in and add into already canon existing content through both hcs and drabbles while it doesnât always mean I adhere strictly to canon it gives characters I write more depth that makes someone who writes with them go ah ray really cares about this character that they write ( I hope ) fleshing them out gives me more to work with but it also lets him sort of be like aha theyâre like this and here is proof / reasoning why
Iii. i actually have no idea uh the fact that i write it i guess LMAO A QUESTION FOR THE NEXT PERSON.
NEW QUESTION: when you find it difficult to write what are some things you might do to help get back into it? I read !!! I very much enjoy reading and alot of the inspiration for my writing comes from some of my favourite authors right now that would be maggie stiefvaterâs series the raven cycle which has some really good descriptions that just make me go ah I wish I could write like that.
NEW QUESTION: who was the first character you ever wrote, do you think you would write them again ? tagged by: @dupliciti tagging: whoever hasn't done this yet im so late to it.
#it's hard to say what makes your writing good when your writing also makes u wanna punch the sky#ă â§Í*Ì©Ì©â ooc â â±á¶ Êžá”á” á”á”âż'á” á”á”ÊłÊłâ±á¶ Êž á”á”á”á”ËĄá” á” ËĄâ±á”á”ËĄá” á”â±á” á”Ê°á”âż Ê·Ê°á”á”'Ëą á”Ê°á” á”á”â±âżá” / á”á”á” á”ᶠá¶Ê°á”Êłá”á¶á”á”Êł

Anon art human again, I mean finding views or just acknowledgement for you art, I'm broke and either way wouldn't feel right blazing the nsfw stuff I draw but it gets no traffic or notes. Idk leaving an ask was impulsive but I really respect your art and was curious how you got your followers, if it was more a waiting thing or you found the right areas to post.
I dunno, it probably takes patients to get attention but finding motivation to make good art and then getting nothing but emptiness and boredom at the end of the process isn't motivating lol. Anyways Im thankful for your response and apologetic cause I got this trigger instinct to just blurt my questions to the cool artist I found on tumblr, and I'm sorry for bothering you so
No worries, I just felt bad that I didn't understand ya!
Getting noticed depends on a lot of things. I've had several accounts through 12 years spent on this site, and this one is the first that kinda popped off!
Do you make art that has crowd appeal? As in, is it a little silly, cute or relatable? Does it have a story behind it besides looking pretty? Is it attached to a fandom? Are you making stuff for an underrepresented niche? I often see people make something that is technically impressive, or their personal best, but it doesn't get shared too much because it lacks that appeal. It sounds harsh, I know, but it happens to me too. Until recently, my most popular piece was a doodle I banged out in an hour - just how it is, but I'm happy it resonated with people! You can have a look around at what other people post and see which posts of theirs do better or worse as well.
I don't follow the rule of posting at specific peak times, or posting every day. But I do try to tag stuff appropriately. Tumblr only uses the first 5 tags from your post in the search function, the rest you use for categorizing for your blog. So if you're starting out, it really is a waiting game until someone notices and shares your stuff, unless you have a buddy that can boost you.
I come here to have fun, I make art for me and if other people like it - awesome! I don't really optimize that well for social media reach, I just have my characters and their little stories. I do my specific niche of porn/kinks that are fun for me to draw and talk about. It helps that I have a more solid art style now than I did when I started. Apparently I've been doing NSFW for the past 7 years, and early this year is when it took off on tumblr.
To counteract the emptiness, it helps to have friends to bounce ideas around with or to make characters together with. It's why I create, really. I do it with friends because that's what I find fulfilling. And then I feel driven to draw and post about it as well, and that's been true all this time for me.
I hope you can find fulfillment as well, I think it does come through sometimes if a piece was made for reach or from personal joy. I for sure see that in ancient fanart I've done, I hate those pieces. But the personal stuff that I did for fun is still cute to me, even if it did get at most 5 notes way back when.
Sorry if my thoughts are jumbled. But yeah, this is what I do and what worked for me. But it's always different person to person. Much luck in your endeavors!
