⋆。‧˚⋆
Oh please! Come meet Santa!” My little sister Mari tugs on my hand. She’s in a little pink tutu and a slick back bun, her ballet shoes have been changed into her usual converse.
We’re at an after party/fundraiser for her ballet show, the kids were all surprised by a man dressed as santa. She was adorable, a tiny Clara!
Mari skips off with her friends as I turn to mine. Kat downs her drink, “I need another one. Too many kids around.” I laugh and clink her already empty champagne glass.
We walk off to the bar, looking up at the giant chandelier and sprawling stairways. This theater is beautiful, kids in costumes and glitter run around while the society of Monaco gossips and laughs in their presence.
We grab more champagne, smoothing out my dark plum dress and almost twisting an ankle with these silver heels my sister begged me to wear.
“Y/n!” Mari yells, hopping up and down, in line to meet the big man himself. Or… a knock off.
“Oh my.” Kat elbows me, “I’d let him slip down my chimney-” I scoff loudly and laugh, hitting her arm.
“What about that french boy you met?” I raise a brow, my eyes lingering on the man whose face is partially covered by a white wig and beard.
“Oh I see him.” She winks as I giggle, “Come on then, you must meet this cute santa!” I groan as she drags me to the back of the line, “I’ve heard whispers… he’s twenty six.” She whispers as I watch two F1 drivers walk past us.
“I am not sitting on his lap!” I laugh, shaking my head and sipping my drink, Kat grips my arm and pulls me to the front next to Mari.
“What are you asking for?” Mari asks me, clapping her little hands together and tapping her feet.
Her friends touches my dress, “This is so pretty!”
“I heard he’s famous.” One of the ballerinas behind us says just as I get pushed onto the little stand and an elf guides me.
He looks at me, all dressed up and in a whole fat suit. I can’t help but laugh as I get helped onto his lap. I honestly feel horribly awkward, “Sorry… my friend made me.”
His eyes are green, the kind of striking color that stops your thoughts. He tugs down his fake beard, exposing his face and smile.
A very attractive face and smile. “Don’t worry. Are you gonna make me do the voice?” He's got freckles and an accent.
I smile softly, “There’s a voice?”
“What are you asking for this christmas?” He says it in a deep santa like voice.
I laugh, “That’s good.”
“Why thank you…” I raise a brow at his trailing off, “I need a name to match the pretty face, and for the address of your gifts, I suppose.”
Oh he’s a flirt. “Y/n.” I nod, “You gonna make me call you santa?” His fingers brush the side of my hip.
“I’m not that into role playing…” He shakes his head and I spot a tiny dark curl by his ear, “Okay the elf’s are about to get mad. What would you like for Christmas, Y/n?”
He says my name, looking me dead in the eye. Shit I think I might be attracted to Santa.
I bite my lip, “How about, what time Santa gets off?”
His smile shifts into a smirk, “Christmas came early, I guess. Ten.”
He meets me in an empty hallway, Its almost hard to tell if it’s him because of his change in clothes.
He's in a black suit, bowtie and everything. He’s far more agreeable without the white hair.
In fact, the white is replaced with real curls. Dark curls cut into a nice mullet that suits his face. It was in fact a fat suit that I can now clearly see was horribly fake.
I have a sneaking suspicion that tonight is going to be extra interesting now. His hands go to his pockets, that smile on display again for me. “I’m Lando.”

🪼⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ want me that top!
꩜ .ᐟ basically; caitlyn’s that kind of top…
cw; female reader. stráp usage (r! receiving). stráp referred to as côck bc. cait is MEANNN. brief mentions of edġíng. sweáring. pet names. degrádátion but also praișe lol. dírty talk. däcryphïlia if u squint. not proofread.
a/n; never wrote for caitlyn. please do excuse any shitty writing and ooc. anyways she’s so hot
NSFW UTC.
cait’s that mean kind of top. it’s not that she doesn’t want you feeling good! it’s the opposite. she wants you feeling good for so long you’re crying and writhing, begging for her to just let you cum.
yes, cait’s the type of top that edges you for her own enjoyment. next question.
cait, contrary to vi, is that type of top that loves straps. something about dicking you down, seeing your eyes roll—she knows it’s not her dick but damn, she can cum on fucking your pussy with that dildo if it comes down to it.
cait’s that type of top to say the nastiest shit with the sweetest tone of voice. yeah? you like that, mm? i know you do, baby. such a pretty little slut for me. her praise gives you mixed signals but she doesn’t stop, because she can feel your pussy twitch every time she calls you her slut.
cait’s that type of top that has surprising self control. she doesn’t get angry with brats and she doesn’t get jealous often, as a kiramman should. that doesn’t mean she won’t show you what happens when you’re a brat.
cait’s that type of top that gets what she wants. she’s always had it all on a silver platter and that isn’t changing now, not even when it comes to you.
cait’s that type of top that will take you anywhere. and i mean, anywhere.
cait’s that type of top that spoils you rotten. be it with clothes or making you cum. when you earn it, that is. yes, she will give you the most luxurious, expensive lingerie sets in piltover, if you agree to model for her. if you act good for her, i guarantee she will give you the best orgasms of your life. there’s nothing she likes more than to see you submit.
cait’s that type of top to be mean, but she has good intentions. she can’t help herself sometimes. you’re easy to poke and pick at when you’re under her, and you’re just so cute when you cry. she loves you, though. she swears. her good girl.
“what was that, baby?”
she was making fun of you. you were babbling incoherently, royal blue strap reminiscent of her own hair color plunging in and out of you, tip repeatedly kissing your cervix until you couldn’t think anymore.
“caiiittt…!” you whine out. she’s the only thing you can think of. pretty much any other words escape you as she fucks you, moaning and whining her name over and over and over again.
“hmm? yeah? you like that, huh?” she’s smirking. it’s so cute. you’re so cute, chest heaving with every moan and whine, tears pricking at your eyes at the sheer pressure on your womb. her pelvis repeatedly rubs and smacks against your clit, sharp little stings of pleasure to the puffy nub. not enough to cum, just enough to drive you to that edge and then away again. a constant swing of being at your limit and being pulled back by caitlyn.
“look at me.” she snaps suddenly, driving her cock deep into you, tip now practically smushed against your insides as she leans up against you, legs pushed up near your sides. she slings them over her shoulders, one hand holding your knee and the other grabbing your chin to make you look straight at her. her nails bite into the skin ever so slightly, a subtle reminder.
“c’mon. tell me how you like it, baby,” she grins, her movements suddenly continuing, but slower. methodical. she just rubs into you, just barely leaving an inch of space before going back in. her tip is massaging your uterus, you can feel it, and it almost feels like you’re about to explode.
“caitlyn!” you cried, legs trembling over her shoulders, “p-pleaseee…”
“please what?” she’s not letting you get the easy way out. no way. she’s panting, the heat coiling in her stomach growing the more she sees you beg and whine and cry her name. the rubber of the strap rubs against her own cunt, a delicious, excruciating continuous stimulus that she can’t help chasing.
“please… please fuck me, please… wanna cum, please let me—“
you’re cut off by a sharp smack of skin against skin as she suddenly thrusts full force into you. “good girl.” she nearly growls, adjusting her hold on your thighs, nearly folding you just to get the deepest angle she could. her thrusts grow more erratic, harder, and she grins at the little bulge that forms in your tummy every time she thrusts back into you.
you’re moaning so loud you might as well be screaming. god spare any maid in the kiramman estate from hearing you two. caitlyn has the decency to lean forward, kissing you open-mouthed and all, swallowing allll your moans into her own. you’re blubbering incoherently, tears making your eyes glassy—which just riles her up further.
“gonna!-“
“gonna cum, yeah? come on. cum for me, baby, you’ve earned it.”
she barely gets through her sentence, as you cum over her cock, earning her a chuckle as you paint her shaft a pretty milky white. your back arched and your head flopped back, moaning out a long whine of her name.
“yeah… that’s it. make a mess. you’ve been so good for me, haven’t you? just let it all out.” she fucks you through all of your orgasm, picking up her pace a little just to see your juices gush onto her lower belly. she goes until she reaches her own orgasm. the friction driving her into a wave of pleasure that makes her nearly collapse over you.
she lets your thighs fall from her shoulders. her chest presses against yours, her movements halt inside you as she groans a curse into your neck, riding out her own high.
you both lay there for a minute or so, just catching your breath. she picks her head up, kissing your neck, up to your jaw, up to your lips.
“my flower,” she muttered, “so perfect. so good for me. i love you.”
cait’s that type of mean top… but not cruel. she’s gonna let you cum—eventually. she wants to see you cum. there’s nothing better than seeing you burst with pleasure because of her. but she’s not letting you do that, not until all you can think about is her, her, her<3

enjoy!!!
The apartment is too quiet without her.
It’s been hours since Azzi left, her pink bonnet stuffed into her purse, the overnight bag she’d packed slung over her shoulder. She didn’t look back when she closed the door behind her, and Paige didn’t stop her.
Not this time.
Paige leans against the kitchen counter, staring blankly at the half-empty bottle of water in her hand. The sun is setting, painting the skyline outside her window in muted oranges and purples, but she barely notices. The air in the apartment feels heavy, suffocating in its silence.
Her knee aches from today’s workout—a reminder of the game she has in two days. She should be focused on that, but her mind is miles away.
Back to Azzi. Back to their argument.
The fight wasn’t about anything major. None of them ever were. But it was loud. Ugly. The kind of argument that feels like it’s about everything and nothing all at once.
“You don’t even try anymore, Paige!” Azzi’s voice had cracked with frustration, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “You’re so scared of—of whatever this is that you’re ruining it before it can even work.”
“And you’re not?” Paige had snapped back, her voice sharp and cutting. “You’re the one with one foot out the door every time things get hard.”
Azzi had gone quiet then, her lips pressing into a thin line. It was the kind of silence that made Paige want to take it all back, but she didn’t. She couldn’t.
Instead, Azzi had turned on her heel, grabbed her things, and left.
That was three hours ago.
Paige swallows hard, setting the water bottle down on the counter. Her phone buzzes on the island, but she doesn’t check it. It’s probably her coach or a teammate, someone reminding her of the life she’s supposed to be living.
But all Paige can think about is the pink bonnet Azzi left behind. The one she’s worn every night since they were 19 and sharing cramped student apartments in Connecticut.
How did it get to this? How did they go from late-night talks in Paige’s dorm room to this endless cycle of arguing and leaving?
Paige sighs, running a hand through her hair as she drags herself toward the bedroom. Maybe Azzi just needs time to cool off. Maybe this is one of those fights they’ll laugh about later, the way they always used to.
She doesn’t even bother turning on the lights as she collapses onto the bed, burying her face in the purple blanket Azzi gave her their first Christmas together.
It still smells like her.
Paige closes her eyes, exhaustion pulling her under.
—
When I wake up, something feels… wrong.
It’s the light that hits my face first, warm and bright and all wrong for my LA apartment. Then it’s the smell—not Azzi’s perfume or the lavender candle that I keep on the dresser, but something familiar and distant.
My eyes blink open, and for a moment, I can’t seem to breathe.
This can’t be happening.
I blink again, but nothing changes. I stare at the spinning bookshelf, the neatly stacked trophies, the PS5 humming quietly on the dresser—it’s all there. The TV mounted on the wall shows the home screen I haven’t seen in years. My purple sheets are a little wrinkled, the fluffy blanket half spilling onto the floor, but it still smells like fabric softener and familiarity.
My eyes catch on the vanity across the room, where Azzi’s pink bonnet and my Bible sit side by side. My heart clenches. She always left them there.
My fingers dig into the mattress as I sit up, my knee protesting the sudden movement. This isn’t my apartment in Los Angeles. This isn’t my life now. This is… this is my senior-year room at UConn.
The student apartment. The one I shared with Azzi, Nika, Jana, and Ice.
I force myself to stand, even as my chest feels like it’s caving in. The layout of the room is burned into my memory, down to the picture frame sitting on Azzi’s side of the vanity. The photo is of the two of us, taken back when things between us were still too undefined to explain.
The blanket she likes to steal is still folded at the foot of my bed. Her favorite UConn hoodie is draped over my beanbag. A pair of her sneakers sits in the corner, her name written in small letters on the tongue.
Her stuff is scattered everywhere, like it always was, because we spent most nights sleeping in my room instead of hers.
I look around, desperate for an answer. For anything that will tell me this isn’t real.
But it is.
It’s all exactly as I left it in 2025. My senior year.
The year I ruined everything.
My phone buzzes on the nightstand. I grab it like it might give me an explanation.
October 12, 2024.
I nearly drop it. My hands are shaking as I swipe to my texts.
azzi: workout in 20 paigey, be ready when i get there
nika: tell Ice if she clogs the sink again with her hair, I’m moving out.
My breath catches in my throat. I read the texts again, trying to make sense of it, but they feel too familiar. Too real. My hands drop to my sides as the phone slips from my grasp.
This doesn’t make sense.
I glance toward Azzi’s bed. I was always glad my room was the only one with a spare bed, her bed was perfectly made like always. Her per led lights cast a soft glow over the walls, and the scent of her body lotion lingers in the air.
Memories rush back like a punch to the gut. The year we tried to be “just friends.” The year we failed. The year I let fear ruin everything we had.
I drag myself into the kitchen, needing space to think. The student apartment is quiet, but it feels like a time capsule. Jana’s mismatched sneakers are by the door. Nika’s pink Hydro Flask sits on the counter. Ice’s protein shake blender is still sitting in the sink.
Everything is exactly as it was.
But why? Why now? Why this year?
I stare out the window, the view of campus just as I remember. The ache in my knee pulls me back to reality. I know this feeling. I know this time.
I press my hands against the counter, gripping it tightly as the realization sinks in.
I’m back. Back in my senior year. Back in the year Azzi and I were finally supposed to get it right.
And I have no idea why.
My phone buzzes again on the counter.
azzi: coffee or no? answer my texts don’t be weird
Her name on my screen feels like a lifeline and a weight all at once.
This was the year it all fell apart.
But maybe, just maybe, it’s also the year I can put it back together.

megumi’s confession (megumi x reader)
fluff. suggestive
you and megumi are sort of friends. you don’t have the closest relationship, but you get along well enough. you get along with maki, but she’s not here, you are younger so you needed to stay with your classmates so you managed to click with yuji’s cheerful personality and nobara’s bluntness. but megumi… he complicates things.
you like him. a lot.
and that’s a problem.
he doesn’t look like someone interested in this kind of things, especially you but it’s not like you know anything about him. you barely know if he considers you a friend, let alone if he could ever return how you feel.
so, you hide it. as much as you can.
now, sitting in a café with the group, it’s harder to keep it buried. his foot brushes yours under the table, a fleeting touch that shouldn’t make your heart race—but it does. heat creeps up your neck as you try to focus on yuji rambling about something dumb.
megumi shifts slightly, his gaze cutting toward you. his expression, as usual, gives nothing away, but after a brief silence, he speaks with his usual calm tone, his gaze directly at you, making you jolt slightly.
“something wrong?” his voice is calm, but there’s a slight edge of curiosity.
“no, it’s fine,” you manage to smile, though it feels forced, that’s the last thing you expect right now.
megumi’s sharp eyes linger on you for a moment longer. he notices the silent exchange between you and nobara and he raises a brow slightly, trying to pull apart whatever’s flickering across your face. still, he doesn’t press the issue. he takes a slow sip of his drink before continuing.
“are you sure? you seem distracted.” he says simply, leaning accidentally closer to you and your breath catches in your throat.
“yeah, just… a bad day, i guess.” you insist, though the awkward smile you tack on feels fragile.
his brow lifts—not much, but enough to make you shift uncomfortably.
“i see,” he replies nonchalantly. yuji and nobara exchange subtle glances, suppressing their smile at the clear tension between you two.
as the afternoon wears on, the conversation thins. yuji eventually stretches, loud and dramatic.
“alright, i’m heading out. nobara?” she stands, smirking slightly at you before nodding.
megumi stands too, but his eyes catch yours briefly—just a flicker—before he follows the others outside.
walking behind them, megumi notices how you avert your gaze and the faint flush still lingering on your face. his pace slows just enough that you fall into step with him, trailing a little behind the others.
the silence between you two feels different now, stretching out for what feels like forever for you and your stomach knots. it’s uncomfortable, yet you feel worse just staying quiet.
“so… are you ready for the exams?” you ask, attempting to break the awkwardness.
megumi glances at you, his expression unreadable at your attempt of small talk. “yeah. i’ve been training.” his calm, steady tone is reassuring in some way, though you can feel his eyes lingering on you.
you nod, biting the inside of your cheek and this time, his eyes don’t stray. they settle on you for longer than usual, as if searching for something unspoken. nobara and yuji’s occasional glances aren’t helping either and he can’t stop thinking why everybody seems like they know something, beside him.
he exhales quietly. “you've been quiet today. is something bothering you?” the words hit you harder than you expect. you freeze, barely managing to keep walking.
nobara interrupts, trying to help you and ask something you barely hear, but megumi’s gaze remains locked on you. his sharp eyes flicker with suspicion.
“it’s nothing,” you mumble quickly, looking away.
“that’s not what i asked.” his tone sharpens slightly. “you’ve been weird since the café.”
he tilts his head slightly. “what’s going on?”
nobara glances back at the two of you and smirks knowingly. she tugs yuji forward, whispering something that earns a small laugh from him.
“uh, we’ll go ahead,” yuji announces, shooting you a not-so-subtle thumbs up.
you shoot yuji a glare, silently cursing him for leaving you alone with megumi. nobara flashes you a wink as they walk ahead. now it’s just you and megumi again.
megumi walks quietly beside you, the air thick with unspoken words.
“i didn’t mean to keep anything from you,” you murmur after a long pause. “it’s just… personal.”
his gaze lingers, catching the way you avoid looking at him directly.
“if it’s personal, why do they know about it and i’m the only one who doesn’t?” you stop walking. pressure builds in your chest, each breath heavier than the last.
you stop walking, arms folding over your chest as if it might shield you from how exposed you feel.
“megumi i can’t—” your voice falters. “i’m afraid.”
megumi watches you carefully. for once, his composure cracks just slightly.
“afraid of what? you know you can trust me,” his voice lowers, the softness in it making you feel even more vulnerable.
“megumi… don’t make me say it,” you plead, eyes darting anywhere but at him.
“i don’t wanna force you, y/n” he exhales quietly, confusing all over his face “but if it’s something about me, i’d rather hear it from you.”
you glance at him—just briefly—and mumble, “you’re good at noticing things about other people, but somehow… you didn’t notice this.”
megumi’s eyes narrow slightly. “notice what?”
you hesitate, nerves overwhelming you.
“megumi…i—”
“say it already, damn it. you really making me anxious—”
“i have feelings for you. i have for a while.” you blurt out, not backing back, your heart pounding.
at this, time stops, the confession lingers in the air, louder than it should be. megumi’s eyes widen slightly. his lips part as if to say something, but no words come out.
you swallow hard, your heart threatening to break free from your chest.
“i’m sorry,” you blurt out. “i know i’m a terrible friend for hiding it. i couldn’t help it.”
you start to pull away, but his hand finds your wrist, grounding you in place. his brows knit together, uncertain but steady.
“there’s nothing to apologize for,” he says quietly. “having feelings isn’t something you should apologize for.” your breath catches, tears prick your eyes.
“i think i’m just going to go…” before you can turn, he gently grabs your wrist.
“don’t go.” his voice is soft, almost pleading which is weird coming from him. your eyes meet his, and the concern in his gaze makes your chest tighten.
“you didn’t ruin anything,” he whispers. “your….feelings…aren’t exactly one-sided.”
you feel the ground shift beneath you.
“what…?”
megumi sees the shock in your eyes, the hesitation lingering on your face. you clearly didn’t expect this, and neither did he—not like this. relief intertwines with guilt, tightening his chest. maybe he wasn’t blind to it—just unwilling to face it.
“i guess… i’ve picked up on more than i thought.” his voice is quieter now, eyes narrowing slightly as if piecing together his own words. “the way you look at me… how you act around me… i’ve seen it.”
he pauses, gaze dropping briefly to the ground before returning to yours.
“maybe i’ve been ignoring it.”
“megumi…” your voice—soft, almost fragile—pulls at something in his chest. he doesn’t let go, his hands still resting gently on your face, fingers brushing along the edges of your jaw.
“i didn’t mean to overlook it,” he says, his tone calm but honest. “i just… wasn’t sure what to do with it. i’m not great at this stuff.”
“you only realized just now?”
he holds your gaze for a long moment before nodding slightly. “part of me knew.” his voice lowers further. “i just didn’t want to deal with it. i thought… maybe it was better to ignore it than risk messing things up.”
the warmth of his thumbs grazes over your cheek, a rare tenderness behind the gesture.
“but now… i don’t think i can.”
your heart races under the weight of his words, but his expression doesn’t change much. megumi isn’t someone who wears his feelings on his sleeve. still, there’s something in the way he looks at you—a softness that wasn’t there before.
when your arms wrap around him suddenly, pressing your face to his chest, megumi tenses for just a second. then, slowly, his arms encircle you.
his hand drifts to the back of your head, the other at your waist, steady but unintrusive.
“...it’s okay,” he mutters after a while, voice almost too quiet to hear. he isn’t sure what else to say.
he presses a hesitant kiss to your forehead. it’s unfamiliar, but somehow, it feels right. his fingers drift through your hair, slow and grounding.
“can you look at me?”
his tone isn’t demanding, but there’s a subtle firmness behind it. when you pull away enough to meet his gaze, his eyes immediately lock onto yours. there’s a faint flush dusting his cheeks, though his expression remains composed.
your gaze flickers down to his lips, and megumi notices. he always notices. he doesn’t say anything about it, but the slight shift in his breathing gives him away.
“megumi…” the way you say his name, barely above a whisper, draws his attention back to your eyes. his heart skips uncomfortably, the space between you growing smaller without either of you moving.
his gaze lowers again—just briefly. “yeah?”
“please… kiss me.” the words hit harder than you intend. for a split second, he wonders if he heard you right. but he knows he did.
megumi doesn’t answer right away. he studies your face for any hesitation, any flicker of doubt. when he finds none, he exhales softly through his nose, lifting a hand to your cheek once more.
“…okay.” his voice is almost too quiet.
there’s no rush when he leans in, no sudden movement. his lips meet yours carefully, as if testing his limits—testing yours. the kiss is slow, hesitant, but the warmth of his hand against your skin lingers, grounding you in place.
his hand flexes gently at your waist, as if grounding himself in the moment. the sound you make brushes against his skin, subtle but entrancing.
megumi isn’t the type to lose composure, but there’s something about this—something about you—that tugs at the edge of his restraint.
his hand slides just a little lower, fingers curling gently around your side. the kiss deepens by instinct, though there’s nothing rushed about it. it’s careful, deliberate, and unspoken words fill the space between each breath.
when he finally pulls back, his forehead rests lightly against yours. his eyes remain half-lidded, breaths slow and steady as he tries to process everything.
“…you’re shaking,” he points out quietly, noticing the subtle tremble in your arms. you try to laugh it off, but he doesn’t let go.
“you’re not a bad friend,” he says after a moment, sensing the guilt still lingering beneath the surface. “and… you didn’t mess anything up.” his words are simple, but there’s weight behind them.
the air between you feels heavier now. megumi’s forehead rests lightly against yours, but his grip on your waist lingers, fingertips pressing just enough to keep you close. his eyes flicker down to your lips again, half-lidded, but he doesn’t move—at least, not yet.
you can feel his breath against your mouth, shallow and uneven. he’s usually composed, unreadable even when everything around him is chaotic. but right now… there’s something different. something unsteady in the way he’s holding you, like he’s barely keeping himself together.
“megumi…” your voice is soft, but there’s a tremble to it that you can’t hide.
his gaze lifts to yours, and you can almost see the cracks forming in his calm exterior.
you’re too close, too warm, and the way your lips part slightly when you say his name—it’s messing with his head.
he swallows hard, but his hands move on their own. one shifts to the small of your back, pressing you flush against him, while the other slides up to cup your jaw, tilting your face just a little higher.
“... you’re not helping by looking at me like that,” he murmurs, voice lower than before.
“like what?” you whisper back, though you know exactly what he means.
megumi’s eyes darken, and his thumb lightly brushes over your lower lip, lingering for just a second longer than necessary.
“like that.”
his restraint snaps faster than either of you expect. he kisses you again, rougher this time, no hesitation in the way his lips part yours. his grip tightens at your waist, fingers digging in just enough to make you gasp softly against his mouth.
the sound—god, the sound—sends something sharp through him, and suddenly he’s not thinking anymore.
his hand drifts into your hair, tilting your head gently. his lips move over yours hungrily, like he’s been holding this in for way too long. and maybe he has.
your hands curl into his jacket, pulling him closer, and he groans quietly against your mouth as his teeth catch your lower lip, tugging lightly.
the kiss deepens, heat pooling between the two of you as his tongue slides against yours, the slow, deliberate movements making your knees feel weak.
his arm tightens around your waist when he feels you sway slightly, anchoring you firmly against him.
“you’re… not making this easy,” he mutters between kisses, his forehead dropping against yours briefly as he tries to catch his breath.
you’re barely holding yourself together, but you still manage to smirk faintly, brushing your lips lightly over his again. “you’re the one who kissed me like that.”
megumi exhales sharply through his nose, and before you can say anything else, he’s kissing you again—deeper, rougher, like he’s chasing something he can’t quite reach.
his jacket crinkles under your grip as his body presses flush against yours, pinning you softly against the wall behind you.
your back meets the surface with a quiet thud, and megumi’s hands immediately slide to your hips, guiding them closer until there’s nothing left between you.
his breath hitches when he feels your fingers slide under the edge of his shirt, your touch hot against his skin. his stomach tenses involuntarily at the contact, but he doesn’t stop you.
if anything, it spurs him on.
“you’re… unfair,” he mumbles against your lips, but his mouth trails lower, leaving hot, open-mouthed kisses along the curve of your jaw, down to your neck.
the feeling of his lips there—soft but deliberate—sends a shiver down your spine, and megumi feels it.
his lips linger against your skin, breathing heavily as he lets his forehead rest against your shoulder.
for a moment, everything feels suspended in time, neither of you moving except for the rise and fall of your chests.
but even now, his hands haven’t left your hips, thumbs brushing slow circles over the fabric of your shirt.
“...we should probably stop,” he says, though his voice is anything but convincing.
you hum softly, fingers still resting against the bare skin of his waist. “do you want to stop?”
there’s a long pause. “no,” he admits quietly, pulling back just enough to meet your gaze. his eyes are hooded, but there’s a rare vulnerability behind them. “but i’m trying to be smart about this.”
you tilt your head slightly, brushing a strand of dark hair from his face, your touch light but lingering.
“for once, maybe stop overthinking it,” you whisper.
megumi’s gaze lingers on you, his lips parting slightly as if to say something, but instead, he leans in, kissing you softly this time. slower, more deliberate. he’s not in a rush anymore.
T
he kiss softens, melting into something slower—something that lingers more than it burns. megumi’s hands remain steady at your waist, his thumbs brushing over your sides like he’s memorizing the feeling of you there. his forehead presses lightly against yours when he finally pulls away, his breath still uneven but calmer now.
neither of you speaks for a moment. the silence feels heavier, but not uncomfortable. it settles between you in a way that feels… right.
megumi’s eyes stay half-lidded as he glances at you, taking in the way your lips are slightly swollen from his kisses, the soft rise and fall of your chest as you try to catch your breath. his fingers tighten ever so slightly against your hips before relaxing again.
“you okay?” he asks, voice quiet, the usual stoic calm returning to his tone—though there’s still a faint rasp to it.
you nod, a small smile tugging at your lips. “yeah. you?”
his gaze flickers away for a brief second, like he’s processing the question. his hands don’t leave you, and his body stays close enough that you can feel the warmth radiating from him.
“yeah,” he finally answers. “i’m good.”
but his eyes drift back to yours, and the corner of his mouth twitches slightly—barely noticeable, but it’s there.
you lean into him a little, resting your head lightly against his shoulder. he doesn’t move away, instead shifting just enough so that you fit perfectly against him. his chin brushes the top of your head, and you can feel his hand settle against the small of your back, grounding you there. it feels… safe.
after a moment, you murmur against his jacket, voice soft but teasing. “so… does this mean you’re finally done ignoring how you feel about me?”
megumi sighs through his nose, his grip tightening instinctively around you, though there’s no real annoyance in his expression. “i wasn’t ignoring it.”
you pull back just enough to look at him, raising an eyebrow. “you kind of were.”
he meets your gaze, and for once, he doesn’t have a response. the faint pink dusting his cheeks betrays him, but he doesn’t look away.
instead, he presses his lips to your forehead—a simple, brief kiss that lingers for just a second longer than necessary.
“i won’t anymore,” he says quietly. your heart skips at the sincerity in his voice.
neither of you addresses what this is—not directly. but the way his arms stay wrapped around you, the way his hand unconsciously brushes along your back in slow, absentminded circles… it’s enough.
“good,” you whisper, smiling softly against him.
you stay like that for a while, wrapped in each other’s warmth, letting the rest of the world fade away outside the quiet bubble you’ve created. and maybe there’s still a lot left unspoken, but for now, this is enough.

Home Charm
James Potter x reader
Summary: James Potter, the devoted and loving father, transforms every moment into magic and love with his enchanted family.
Warnings: none
A/N: anon, hope you like it <333
Masterlist
• James loves making you laugh and uses every opportunity to tease you in a cute way. He might steal a kiss in the middle of an argument or tickle you until you beg for mercy. Life with him is always light and fun.
• He deeply values your partnership. For any important decision, he always checks with you first, making it clear that your opinion is the most important to him.
• James never misses a chance to steal a kiss. Whether you’re in the middle of a sentence, distracted with a book, or even complaining about something, he simply can’t resist. “You had that irresistible look, love, I had to do it,” he says with a mischievous smile, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
• James is such a soft dad that just hearing the kids say “daddy” for the first time made him emotional. He tells everyone about it — Sirius had lost count of how many times he’d heard the same story. “My kid said I’m the best dad in the world yesterday. I’m not saying it’s true, but I’m not denying it either,” he jokes with a smile that lights up his entire face.
• If one of the kids mentions liking something, even if it’s a small detail, James jumps into action. “You like chocolate frogs? Great, now we have an entire collection.” He fills the shopping cart with anything he thinks the kids will love, only realizing the excess when you laugh while trying to find space in the house to store everything.
• For James, physical touch is a form of love. He wraps his arm around your waist whenever you’re together, as if he needs to make sure you’re there. When you’re cooking, he leans against the counter just to watch, but never without first running his hands over your shoulders or waist. He pulls you close with the excuse of “needing to taste something” you’re making, but in reality, he just wants you in his arms.
• He has the habit of complimenting you out of nowhere, especially in public, as if he can’t hold back how he feels. “Are you all seeing this? How did I marry the most beautiful woman in the world?” he jokes with his friends, but his look is completely serious. You might roll your eyes, but the sparkle in his smile always melts you.
• James has a smile unlike any other, one he reserves only for you. It’s the kind of smile that makes it feel like you’re the only person in the world who matters, full of tenderness and adoration.
• Even without music, James finds an excuse to make you twirl around the room. Whether it’s after a long day or just because he thinks you need a smile, he takes your hand and leads you in an exaggerated way, as if you’re the stars of a ballroom. When you protest, he just laughs and insists, saying, “You know I won’t stop until I get a smile, right?”
• He has the habit of pulling you into a long kiss, especially when you’re in a rush to leave. “Just one more, please,” he asks, pressing his forehead against yours after, still a little out of breath and with shiny lips. Of course, this results in you both being late more often than you’d like, but who can resist him?
• He loves it when you wear his clothes, especially his sweaters and shirts. When he notices you’re cold, he doesn’t wait for you to ask — he just wraps you in one of his huge coats and puts his arms around you like a human blanket. “Much better this way, don’t you think?” he whispers in your ear, though it doesn’t take long before he removes his clothes from you.
• The king of excuses to hug you. “You don’t look comfortable in that chair,” he comments, pulling you onto his lap with ease. “You know what would be better? Sitting here.” He does this anywhere: in the living room, the backyard, showering your neck with kisses that fluster you.
• James knows exactly how to make you laugh, even on the toughest days. He might mimic voices, make faces, or even create hilarious imaginary scenes with objects around. His goal, he swears, is always to hear you laugh, because “if you’re laughing, I’m winning at life.”
• When you’re sick or tired, James becomes your loving caretaker. He brings tea, makes soup, and wraps you in blankets. “You just need to tell me what you want, my love, and I’ll do it,” he insists, even if his soup attempt ends up being more funny than delicious.
• James loves telling the story of the day he met you. He does it with such enthusiasm that it feels like he’s reliving the moment every time, emphasizing how you captivated him right away. “I knew from that instant I was lost,” he confesses, while you roll your eyes, but your heart races anyway.
• No matter how tired he is, James never forgets to give you a kiss before bed. He pulls you close, whispers something sweet or funny, and kisses your forehead, cheek, and finally your lips. “Good night, my life,” he says with so much affection that it feels like you’re in the arms of the whole world.
• When the kids scribble on the house walls, you try to be firm about the rules, but James shows up with a mischievous look. “You know, they were just expressing their creativity,” he argues while trying to scrub the marks. In the end, he ends up sitting in time-out with them, admitting that “he was an accomplice to the art.”
• During your pregnancy, James had the habit of lying next to you and talking to the baby, even when it seemed silly. He would talk about how excited he was to meet the baby, or make up funny stories about teaching the baby to fly. When he felt the baby move, his eyes would shine in a way that made you fall even more in love.
• Before bed, James turns simple stories into epic adventures. He does all the voices for the characters, makes exaggerated gestures, and even creates a soundtrack with light spells. Even if the kids are exhausted, they always ask for “just one more story, daddy.”
• When you say no to something the kids want, James does his best to negotiate on their behalf. “Love, they just want to build a fort in the middle of the living room. And look, they’ve already assigned me as the troll guarding the entrance. I can’t disappoint my adventurers,” he says with an irresistible look.
• Even on days when the kids make a mess or are in a bad mood, James stays calm. He believes every behavior has a reason and prefers to resolve things with conversations and playfulness rather than scolding. When one of the kids cries, he immediately sits next to them, saying, “It’s okay, champ. What’s wrong? Daddy’s here.”
• James never misses a chance to shower the kids with affection. He hugs them, kisses their cheeks, and messes up their hair. “You know I love you, right?” he says daily, because he believes it’s important for them to grow up knowing how adored they are.
• James loves creating little traditions. Every Friday night, he organizes “pajama parties” in the living room, where you watch Muggle movies (courtesy of Remus) and eat enchanted popcorn that changes flavor. At Christmas, he always dresses up as Santa, even though the kids already know it’s him.
• He completely surrenders to playtime. If that means getting covered in paint or glitter, James doesn’t mind. To him, the kids’ laughter is worth any effort. Later, he makes sure to help them clean up, singing made-up songs to make the moment fun.
• James makes sure to emphasize how amazing the kids are. “Did you know you’re the smartest wizard that ever existed?” or “That was the most impressive defense I’ve ever seen in a Quidditch match! And trust me, I’ve seen a lot of Quidditch.” He believes every day is a new chance to make the kids feel special.
• James makes sure to show you how much he loves you in front of the kids. He says “I love your mom” whenever he can, believing this will teach them what a healthy relationship looks like. He believes raising kids in a home full of love and laughter is the greatest gift he can give them.

Well, reader and Jinx matching rings (maybe even wedding rings), and when Caitlin shoots Jinx's finger, she destroys this ring. Jinx’s honest reaction?
of course! thank you for the request <3
i decided to make them promise rings since she lost her middle finger. i hope that’s alright!
summary; jinx’s promise ring being destroyed, and fem!reader comforting her after the fact.
characters included; jinx
tags/warnings; fluff, hurt/comfort, mentions of war/combat, mentions of poor mental health, medical talk ig? (patching up), s2 spoilers
men dni.
you’re sat in jinx’s hideout watching her tinker away with… something. a new type of explosive she’s experimenting with, she says. something that only requires one hexcrystal instead of two or three, since she can’t keep using so many. she’s unceremoniously hunched over the workbench, goggles over her eyes as she messes with the piece of scrap metal in her hand.
“having fun?”
you ask, sitting back in the chair she got you.
“mm… this is more difficult than i thought it would be. who knew this could be so challenging? but i like a challenge.”
she smirks to herself, not taking her eyes off of her project.
“well, you’ve never let ‘difficult’ stop you. you’re a right genius.”
“oh, stop. you’re biased!”
she teases, but she’s got the lightest rouge dusting her cheeks. got her. your gaze continues to follow your girlfriend, the way she moves so freely and carelessly. getting her face impossibly close to power tools, using her nails to clean up dirt, teeth capturing her bottom lip when she’s particularly stumped.
“alright! that’s enough for right now.”
she proclaims, standing up and placing her hands on her hips.
“already?” it couldn’t have been more than fifteen minutes since you asked her how she was doing.
“yeah! besides, i’ve got something for ‘ya.”
jinx springs up from her seat and skitters over to yours, quickly turning it around. you hear cheerful humming from behind you as she shuffles through piles of belongings, clearly looking for something.
"a-ha!"
she spins you back around, both hands on your seat and quickly rises. she's got something clasped in her left hand, but won't reveal it, not yet.
"what's that?"
"you have to be patient, toots! i've got a speech prepared, don't distract me!"
a speech? jinx never gave speeches. was she breaking up with you? so many thoughts began swirling through your mind as your palms began to sweat, gripping the chair- and then jinx revealed what she was hiding. a wooden box. a... ring box?
"isn't it a little soon to be getting engaged, jinx?"
you chuckle dryly, looking up at your girlfriend. she playfully rolls her eyes, and shakes her head, blue bang swaying.
"yes it is, that's why we're not getting engaged."
she clears her throat.
"not yet."
she turns her attention back to the box, and she opens it. inside lays a thick silver ring, with a circular blue gem in the middle. it looked eerily similar to a hexcrystal- but carved into a gemstone. 'JINX' is shakily engraved on the inside, something she undoubtedly did herself.
"this is a promise ring. i've been working on it for a while, and well... it's kind of stupid." she looks off to the side, sheepishly. "but this is me promising myself to you. to show you that i'm serious about this, ya know?"
you look over the ring for a moment, taking it in for all that it is. it's obviously unprofessional, the metal is a bit dull, and the shape isn't precise. but god dammit if it isn't the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. you glance back to your girlfriend, noticing her observing you- likely for any signs of disapproval. poor girl. as much as jinx had improved since meeting you, she still had the habit of expecting the worst. you didn't think that part would ever go away.
"jinx, it's beautiful. i- you made this?"
you ask, your eyes flickering back to the ring she's holding out. noticing how her grip is becoming a bit less stable.
"with my own two hands."
you chuckle, giving her a little grin.
"well? come on, put it on."
jinx doesn't need to be told twice. she gently takes hold of your left hand, removing the ring from the box and slowly slipping it onto your finger.
"there! it's on your middle finger, so your ring finger is open for the real thing."
not an ‘i do,’ but an ‘i will.’
you hold your hand up to the light, admiring how the ring catches it, before leaning forward to press a flurry of kisses to jinx's face.
"ah- hey! stop, you goof!"
she laughs, arms coming to wrap around you as a fit of giggles erupts from her.
"nope! i get to do this!"
it's not a week later when you arrive to jinx's hideout with a promise ring of your own to give her. a thick gold band to contrast the silver jinx had given you, with a rose quartz to accompany your own hexcrystal. pink and blue… she had a theme going, didn't she?
it wasn't handmade, but held the same sentimental value. you weren't as handy as jinx, and you'd learned to accept that a while ago. you had strengths in other areas, one of them being finding perfect gifts. it didn't take you long to find a jeweler in piltover who had exactly what you needed.
"oh, my god- you didn't have to do this."
she gasps, rosy eyes blown wide. both hands are on her cheeks as jinx gently approaches the open box in your hand.
"you promised yourself to me, didn't you? this is my promise to you."
jinx lets you put the ring onto her own left middle finger, her eyes never leaving your face. watching you so intently, she can feel her heart fluttering in her chest. what did she do to deserve you exactly? she could never quite figure it out, but that doesn't matter right now. you glance back up at her, a little smile tugging at the corner of your lips.
"i… you're too good to me, toots. really."
"i am not. i love you, remember?"
"mm… i love you too. i still think you're too good to me, though."
you let out a low chuckle.
"c'mere."
you bring the girl into your arms, tilting her chin with your index finger to gently bring her closer to you. pressing your lips to hers in a slow, gentle kiss.
oh- and of course, your name is engraved on the inside of the ring.
✧.*
you're posted at your girlfriend's hideout, going over notes in preparation for an exam. it's nerve wracking, sure, but the odd tranquility of jinx's desk is useful in its own way.
jinx swings open the door to the hideout, and as soon as she steps onto the panel of the wind turbine supporting her hideout, you can tell she's in hysterics.
the girl is wailing. she's pacing back and forth, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps. but most importantly, her hand is gushing blood. you immediately drop your notes, papers scattering across the desk to rush over to your girlfriend.
"jinx? jinx?! what the hell happened, oh my god..."
you kneel down in front of jinx, taking her hand to examine it. her middle left finger is completely gone, blood rushing out from the wound. it seems to be a clean cut, at least, you won't have to deal with any extra bits to clean up.
"the ring, the ring, it's gone-"
she sobs, a hiccup following and her free hand clenching into a fist at her side. you gasp, looking up at jinx, then back down at her finger.
"jinx, seriously? you just lost your finger and you're worried about a damn ring?!"
you breathe out, exasperation and worry weighing heavy on your voice.
"the ring is important! it's- it's our promise!"
she cries, hanging her head low. jinx is so ashamed, it hurts your heart to see. you let go of her hand and frantically sweep along her workbench for anything. you knew you had a first aid kit somewhere, you'd gotten it after seeing jinx patch herself up in a way that would make any doctor shiver. but god damn it, where was it?
there.
you quickly swipe the kit and a bottle of peroxide from her workbench, rushing back over to jinx. you take one of her wrists and quickly guide her over to her beaten-up couch.
"sit."
"but-"
"sit."
jinx huffs and sits down on the couch, you sitting down beside her. you open the kit and bottle, pouring peroxide onto a cotton square and taking her hand into your lap.
"this is going to sting. a lot."
jinx winces at just the thought, but nods slowly. keeping her eyes on what you're doing-
"agh- fuck!"
she yelps, tossing her head back as you press the square to the wound, holding it there to both disinfect and stop the bleeding.
"i'm sorry, baby, it'll be over soon. i just need to stop the bleeding."
you coo, trying to do anything in your power to calm her down. yet it's obvious the injury itself isn't what she's upset about.
"that- that fucker vi is with shot it off, she shot the ring off..."
jinx seethes through gritted teeth, trying to keep her composure as you hold the peroxide to her wound. ah.. that makes sense. caitlyn was never fond of jinx, especially after the stunt she pulled with the council room. part of you was simply grateful that she didn't just take jinx out, as much as you knew she was probably trying to.
jinx was always putting herself in so much danger, both for the sake of necessity and the fact her ego was just so damn inflated. she said it herself- she just can't seem to die. but she got impossibly close way more than you would've liked her to.
you take out a roll of gauze and begin to wrap it around her hand, the wound being in the center of it all. it's far from professional, but this will have to do until you can get her proper medical attention. which you were trying to avoid talking about, since jinx was the last person to ever admit she needed help.
"jinx, i'm just happy that you're alive. i don't care about the ring right now. what if she had shot you somewhere more... vital?"
"then i would've gotten to keep the ring."
god damn it. she could not be serious right now. you finish wrapping her hand, bleeding having come to a halt and wound disinfected. you'd grab some painkillers in a moment. you quickly take both of her cheeks in your hands, forcing her to look you directly in the eye. the cold metal of your own ring against soft skin.
"jinx. again, i'm happy that you're here, and you're alive, and losing your finger was the worst thing that happened. i will get you a new ring, first thing tomorrow. okay?"
she sighs, her lips coming into a slight pout. at the very least, she's not crying anymore.
"but..."
you press your index finger to her lips, shushing her.
"no. just because you don't have the ring anymore doesn't mean the promise went out the window, okay?" you whisper, brushing your lips against her forehead. "i still love you, and still have promised myself to you. that won't change.
jinx closes her eyes, and leans into your kiss. she seems to have finally resigned, and is snaking her arms around your waist.
"i just- i love you so much..."
"i know, baby. i love you too, which is why i'll get you a new ring. a better one, even."
your hand still cupping her face, you lean in to press a chaste kiss to her lips.
"just stay here, with me. you've had a hell of a day."

I’m obsessed with the Spencer and mean girl!reader!, i was wondering if you could expand a bit more and show the time she does bite back at the team for being rude or teasing Spencer?
plus size mean girl!reader, wc: 565.
a/n: decided to reopen my asks because the ones that you guys are sending are just too good! this fic was lowkey healing because i HATE when the team cuts spencer off.
Being able to go out all together was an incredible feat.
Most of the time everyone’s schedules didn’t align, but in this instance, you were able to catch a moment of peace.
The bar was bustling, live with people as music boomed from the speakers placed miscellaneously throughout the building.
You’re cuddled close into Spencer’s side, practically sitting on his lap as your sides touch. Spencer had thrown his coat over your lap because, admittedly, the bar was kind of cold, and your skirt was way too short to handle the chill.
You should be dancing, but you’re rather buzzed, the need inside you quelled by his slack covered leg that provided you with much needed warmth. You nursed the fruity cocktail in your hand, the sweetness a pleasant taste.
“Ugh,” Voiced JJ. “If I drink anymore, I think I’ll spontaneously combust.” Her sentence ended with a groan. Emily patted her shoulder sympathetically, though that didn’t stop her from taking another sip of her whiskey.
“Did you know that it’s scientifically proven that you can’t actually spontaneously combust due to an excessive amount of alcohol intake. It’s a myth that’s long been -”
“Spence,” JJ interrupted. “I know. I was just being sarcastic.”
“Oh. Sorry.”
Spencer’s face bloomed a normally endearing red, but this time you can tell that being cut off flustered him. Your hand that was clasped loosely in his tightened, and his body grew rigid as he felt your long acrylic nails dig into his skin.
“That was rude.” You said bluntly. That broke JJ and Emily out of their conversation.
The drunken smile on her face slowly fell at the sight of your serious demeanor. “I’m sorry?” She asked, giggling awkwardly.
“He was talking and you cut him off. It was rude.” You said simply. Spencer softly called your name from your side, “It’s fine.” He had said.
“No, it’s not fine. Even if you already knew, you shouldn’t have been an ass and cut him off.” Her mouth fell open, stunted. “I…” Emily, bless her heart, was as shocked as her.
“It’s fine.” Spencer made sure to put the emphasis on ‘fine.’
You threw a look to him from the side before pouting your pink gloss covered lips, crossing your arms. “I’m just saying.” You said dismissively, as if you hadn’t just caused a scene.
“Uh -”
“More drinks, yeah?” Emily interrupted with fake cheerfulness. “JJ?”
“Yeah, yeah…” She got up and left with her with an uneasy grin on her face, leaving both you and your boyfriend at the table alone.
“Why would you do that?” Spencer asks with a deep, exasperated sigh. “Because they’ve been working with you for years, and yet they still find it okay to cut you off.”
“Yeah, but… If I was bothered by her cutting me off, I would have said something.”
“That’s the funny thing about it, Spence. You still find it hard to stick up for yourself, especially to people you respect. You shouldn’t just have to sit there and take it. You’re not a dog.”
You’re fully looking at him now, and he’s just… gazing at you. “What? Is there gloss on my teeth?” You run your tongue over them. “No,” He chuckles breathily with a shake of his head. “I just… thank you.”
It’s your turn to fluster at the sheer admiration in his voice.
“I - you already know it’s nothing.”

this came to me in a dream last night but imagine bsf!vi spying on you and your date (fem!reader, hints of caitvi x reader)
clearly, violet isn’t the jealous type, there wasn’t much that she was usually up against anyway. she was just… looking out for you—it was hard to trust some random date you met on an app or through some mutual friend.
“you don’t trust anyone, vi,” you said, smoothing the last stray pieces of hair in the mirror. vi stood in the doorway, leaning against the frame like she had nothing better to do, her arms crossed over her chest.
“i trust people,” she shot back. her tone was defensive like you’d accused her of something worse. “i do!”
“right,” you replied, your smile a little too knowing for her liking.
your phone buzzed on the counter, and vi’s gaze flickered to the screen. here, it read. she watched as your expression shifted—nerves and excitement mixed together in a way she didn’t see often.
“they’re outside,” you said, glancing at her. vi didn’t budge, just gave a small nod like she wasn’t planning to leave her spot anytime soon.
“have fun,” she said after a beat,
you grabbed your jacket and stepped past her, pausing just long enough to catch her eye. “don’t wait up.”
vi smirked, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. “sure. i’ve got better things to do than babysit your bad decisions.”
and by better things, she meant standing there, riling herself up for no reason. vi lingered in the doorway long after you left, her arms now loosely hanging at her sides. she could picture it too clearly: you sitting at some café, that soft, nervous smile you got when you weren’t sure what to say, your fingers brushing over the edge of your cup, looking as good as you always did. only this time, that smile wasn’t for her. it was for some fucking stranger.
her jaw tightened as the thought settled in. what kind of person even asks you out like this? who were they to deserve your attention, your time? vi didn’t even know their name, let alone what they looked like, but the image of some faceless jerk talking too much, maybe trying to impress you with something lame, was enough to make her roll her eyes.
she wasn’t jealous. she wasn’t.
jealousy was messy, and vi didn’t do messy. she wasn’t the type to get all worked up over something that wasn’t her business. this wasn’t her business. except—what if this person turned out to be trouble? what if they hurt you?
shit, what if you liked them?
“sounds like jealousy to me,” caitlyn’s voice chimed through her phone’s speaker a few minutes later.
vi’s jaw tightened as she paced the room, staring at the faint reflection of herself in the window. hooded sweatshirt, messy hair, no real plan—she looked like someone gearing up for trouble. “shut up, it’s not.”
“uh-huh,” caitlyn said, entirely unconvinced.
vi exhaled heavily, tugging her hood up like it might smother the heat creeping up her neck. “i just… wish i knew what was going on. that’s all.” her voice was quieter this time, almost an admission.
she hated not knowing. not knowing who this person was, what they wanted with you, what you were saying to them right now. were you laughing? leaning in close?
“you just gotta chill,” caitlyn said, her tone softening slightly. “you’ll hear all about it when the date’s over, i’m sure. you’re overthinking this.”
“i have an idea,” vi said suddenly, the words spilling out before she’d fully thought them through.
“oh no.”
a slow, mischievous grin pulled at vi’s lips, and her pacing stopped. her fingers flexed at her side as a plan began to form. it wasn’t smart. it wasn’t subtle. it was terrible. “how quickly can you come over?”
“vi, whatever you’re thinking—”
“just get here.”
——
“i can’t believe you’ve dragged me into this,” caitlyn muttered, her voice low and filled with annoyance as she tugged the brim of her cap down further over her face. the fabric shadowed her sharp eyes, which were darting toward the café window like she was already second-guessing her decision to come.
“you love this,” vi said casually, fiddling with the drawstrings of her hoodie.
“no, vi, i really don’t,” caitlyn shot back, her words pointed but softened by a resigned sigh.
as they approached the café entrance, vi glanced inside, her eyes instantly locking onto you. there you were, seated across from somone who smiled at you. vi hated them already.
caitlyn slipped into a barstool near the window, unfolding a newspaper she’d grabbed from the stand out front. her face was completely hidden behind the thin pages. vi, on the other hand, wasn’t nearly as subtle.
her hood was yanked low over her face, and the sunglasses perched on her nose were oversized and crooked, like she’d grabbed them in a hurry. vi hovered awkwardly by the counter, pretending to study the menu even though her eyes kept flicking over to you.
“you’re staring,” caitlyn hissed from behind the paper.
“am not,” vi muttered back, but she didn’t look away.
you were laughing now, that light, effortless kind of laugh that vi rarely saw unless she was the one making you smile. her chest tightened as she watched you tilt your head toward your date, your expression so open, so trusting.
“they’re not even funny,” vi grumbled, narrowing her eyes at your date.
“oh, please,” caitlyn whispered harshly, her exasperation cutting through vi’s muttering. “you’re acting ridiculous. do you even have a plan?”
“i’m working on it,” vi mumbled, finally tearing her eyes away to stare at the drink options on the board. she wasn’t working on anything. she just knew she had to be here—close enough to hear the cadence of your voice.
your date said something else, and you laughed again, this time louder, brighter. vi’s fists curled at her sides as her gut twisted uncomfortably.
“this is a terrible idea,” caitlyn said, sighing heavily as she lowered the paper just enough to glance at vi. “you’re a disaster.”
“shut up,” vi shot back under her breath. but deep down, she knew caitlyn was right.
disaster or not, she wasn’t leaving until your date was over.

“You should bring Y/N over next Sunday.”
Raine’s invitation wasn’t the first one of this kind, and Andrew smiled as she offered to welcome you to Saturday’s family dinner. Still, he didn’t want to push you, you had been together for merely a couple of months, he didn’t want to rush you.
“Soon, I promise, mom.”
“You know we like her already… but your dad and I want to know her better.”
“I know, mom.”
“Then bring her next week.”
“I’ll think about it.”
The door of your shared office opened, and you walked in, smiling as you saw him. God, you were so beautiful today…
“I have to go, mom. I’ll call you later, yeah?”
“Sure, honey. Have a nice day.”
“You too, mom. Bye. Love you.”
“Love you, Andy.”
He ended the call and turned to you as you walked around your desk, putting down your bag.
“How was your meeting, babe?” Andrew asked, walking over to you, bending to avoid the lamp hanging from the ceiling and burying his hands in his pockets.
“It was… interesting.”
“That bad, huh?”
“We’ll see. For now, some professors are reluctant at the thought of organising a full set of conferences around women and the female gaze. They fear there ‘won’t be enough speakers’.”
“Bullshit.”
“Yeah… it’s okay, I can still convince them.”
“I’m sure you will. You can do it, babe.”
“Thanks, honey.”
You smiled up at him when he moved even closer, so close you had to lean against your desk.
“Did you want something else, professor?”
God, his heart was beating so fast… it was so fucking hot when you called him that…
He had to remind himself that you were working, that he couldn’t simply devour you…
“Professor…”
“Stop it… we can’t.”
“Hmmm… I know.”
“Then why are you teasing, professor?”
Your lips parted for a second, and he smirked at the tortured look on your face.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him closer, until he rested his hands on your desk, right next to where your lower back was pressed against the furniture, enclosing you between his arms.
“I like it when you blush,” you confessed, making him laugh.
“That’s still pretty cruel…”
You let out a sigh when he connected his lips to your neck, when he bit and kissed your pulse, his hold on your desk tightening so he would keep his composure. Your fingers got lost in his hair.
“Was that your mother on the phone?” you asked, breathless.
He merely hummed in response.
“How is she?”
“Fine…”
Gently, you pulled him away from your skin.
“We can’t, not here…”
Andrew nodded, trying to hide how hard it was to pull away.
“How are your parents,” you asked while he took a step back, remaining close to you, but none of you touching the other anymore.
“They’re fine. Just… the usual. My mom is working on a new painting.”
“Amazing!”
He thought about asking you, then. But it was too soon… it was too soon…
Were you really over Frank? Would you really stay? He couldn’t get his parents involved if you simply chose to disappear…
“Yeah, it’s pretty nice.”
He shook himself, put his hands into his pockets again.
“I should go back to work,” he reasoned. “I need to go to the library this afternoon, will probably work from there for a few hours.”
“Yeah, I should go back to work too… I have so much to do.”
“You’re still coming over tonight, right?”
“Of course!” you answered with an excited grin.
“I might not come back to the office before heading home…”
“Okay, I’ll see you tonight at seven, then?”
“Yeah, sure.”
You rose to your tiptoes to peck his lips, before turning to your computer, and Andrew walked back to his desk to gather his things.
He kept on wondering if bringing you to his parents was a good idea or not…
Andrew was an overthinker, which meant that he had a special talent for ruining his own life.
His day had taken a bad turn after that shared moment in your office. He was frustrated with the article he was working on, and the conversation with his mother kept on being played on repeat in his head.
And he simply… doubted himself.
There were days when his brain got too busy, too loud, and darker thoughts and doubts were enhanced in those times. And now that he was torturing himself on whether or not he was going too fast, his own insecurities were coming back. Was he really good enough for you? So far, he hadn’t had to change to make you love him, wasn’t that strange? He was used to tune down some of his interests, to be quieter than he wanted to be, so Sam would love him.
Wasn’t it strange that you were still talking for hours? That you were still interested in him? That you… didn’t ask for him to change?
And what if you longed for Frank still?
Lost in his thoughts, he barely noticed the knocking on his front door. Only when Elwood sprinted across the room and barked at the wooden surface did he realise that it was already 7 pm, that you were waiting on his doorstep.
He heaved a sigh, forced himself to hide his pain, before walking across his flat to welcome you in.
You greeted him with a grin, and a pizza box.
“Brought dinner!” were your first words, and he couldn’t refrain a smile as he took the box you were handing him.
“Thanks, baby.”
You went to your tiptoes to kiss him, and while he pecked your lips he wondered if it would be too much if he yielded to his impulse and hugged you now.
Yeah… probably… he would be too much…
“How was your afternoon?” you asked, taking off your shoes and jacket, before giving Elwood some scratches.
“Erm… yeah… it was fine.”
You looked at him, something expectant on your face, but he didn’t want to bother you with some unimportant problems. Sam was never interested in those anyway…
“Are you hungry, then?” he asked, already walking to his kitchen.
“Erm… sure! Yeah! Starving actually!”
“How was your afternoon?”
“Nothing very important happened… but I’ve found some interesting articles…”
He let you babble away for a while, nodding while he set the table.
You started eating, but then you grew quiet, and he wasn’t sure why. You had been excited, and then you simply… stopped talking.
Was he being annoying? Was that something he needed to change?
At the back of his head, his mother’s voice was still asking to invite you, and he was still debating on whether it was a good idea or not, and what about Frank? Did you still think about him? Did you still want him? Did you…
“Andy?”
He looked up at you, surprised that you were using his name. You hadn’t in a few weeks. The pet names were all you used when you were alone by now.
“Hmm?”
“Is there something wrong?”
“No… why?”
“I don’t know, you’re… you’re very quiet tonight.”
He couldn’t tell you that he was asking himself a thousand questions, that he was doubting himself, that he wanted to hold you close, because he would be too much then, and anyway he couldn’t talk about his feelings, he was never good at it and…
“Did something happen this afternoon? Are you okay?” you insisted, and he looked away, rubbing at his collarbone now.
“No, no… I’m okay.”
You remained quiet for a while.
“You can tell me anything, you know? I’m your girlfriend, I’m here for you,” you offered in a gentle, soothing voice.
“I’m fine.”
“Okay.”
“You… you were talking about your seminar… what about that speaker you wanted to contact, then?”
“Erm… I’ll contact her tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
He waited for you to speak some more, but you didn’t, and the silence that settled was awkward, at best.
This was so unusual for you. It was supposed to be easy to be with you, what was happening,? What was he doing wrong?
Would you leave? Would you regret Frank all over again?
“Andy.”
“Yeah?”
“Please, tell me what’s wrong. Why aren’t you talking to me? Is there something bothering you? Have I done something?”
“No, no… nothing, I’m just… tired.”
You stared at him, but there was nothing else he could say without talking about his feelings, and he couldn’t do that. He didn’t want to bother you, to be too much, and anyway, he didn’t like talking about his feelings, so what was the point in burdening you with those…
“Oh, okay… do you want to go to bed early?”
“Erm… sure, yeah…”
“Okay… I’ll clean up with you, and then leave you to it, then.”
He blinked up at you as you got up and picked up your plate.
You were leaving? You were supposed to stay the night…
“You… you can stay, if you’d like.”
“It’s okay, I understand that you’re tired. We can have dinner again tomorrow.”
“Okay…”
You gave him a bright grin. Were you happy to leave?
He started fidgeting, hurried to clean up the table. He noticed the way you seemed disappointed when you moved to his hallway though.
He was doing everything wrong, somehow, what was he doing wrong?
You wanted Frank again, of course, because he would know how to hold you back, and Andrew didn’t, and…
“Andy?”
“Hmm?”
“I get that you’re not in the mood to talk, but… I wish you’d tell me what’s wrong.”
“Nothing’s wrong, babe.”
“Please… you’ve barely said a word tonight. What’s going on?”
“Nothing, I just… wanted to listen to you.”
You frowned at that.
“You… you didn’t say anything.”
“I had nothing to say.”
“Now, that’s not true. Why are you lying?”
“I’m not.”
“Andy…”
“I said I’m fine!”
Your eyes grew a little round at his harsh tone, and he regretted snapping as soon as the words passed his lips, but it was too late to take the words back now.
“Why are you mad at me?” you asked, hurt evident on your features.
He heaved a frustrated sigh.
“I’m not mad at you, I’m… I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Alright… well, I’m here if you change your mind.”
He watched as you grabbed your jacket, couldn’t refrain the words from passing his lips.
“Why are you leaving?”
You turned to him with a puzzled frown.
“You said you were tired, and you don’t want to talk to me… I thought you didn’t want me to stay.”
“I… I didn’t mean for you to leave.”
“Then… talk to me.”
He heaved a frustrated sigh, ran a hand through his hair.
“I… there’s no need, I’m fine.”
“That was almost convincing, I’ll give you another try.”
“It’s not funny.”
You put on your jacket, and he was so frustrated right now, by his own thoughts, by you leaving, by his stupid feelings making him vulnerable and overreacting and…
“Are you angry?” he asked, but you shook your head.
“No… disappointed, rather.”
You were disappointed in him… of course, you were. You thought he was worth the trouble, but he wasn’t, and you were realising it, and Frank was better even though he was a fucking jerk and…
His hurt came out of his mouth as acidic words.
“Right, leave then.”
You froze, flashed him a glare.
“What’s wrong with you?”
He rubbed at his neck, until it was painful, but he didn’t care.
“Nothing’s wrong…”
“Of course, something’s wrong! I’m not blind! I’m not an idiot!”
“Why are you leaving? You said you’d stay tonight…”
“That was before you acted like you didn’t want me here.”
“I didn’t…”
“Of course you did!”
You started to put on your shoes.
You were leaving… you were leaving…
“Alright then, leave!”
“That’s what I’m doing!”
You were leaving because you didn’t want him, because he wasn’t enough, because he hadn’t changed for you, because Frank was better, Frank…
“Well, then… go back to Frank!”
The look of horror on your face sobered him up, made all traces of frustration or annoyance vanish. Instead, he was just afraid.
“You don’t mean that.”
Your lower lip trembled, he saw tears glimmering in your eyes.
What had he done? What was he doing?
“Take that back. Andy, take that back…”
He remained silent, staring at you and rubbing at his shoulder and collarbone.
He was fucking up everything…
“I don’t know what’s wrong with you tonight, but I hope you’ll tell me once you’re calmer again,” you said in a cold voice, and he hated that tone.
And then you turned around, your hand on the doorknob.
You were leaving, you were leaving… because he couldn’t open his fucking mouth and be honest…
“Don’t… please, don’t leave.”
His voice was fragile now, and he hated it, he hated the weakness that transpired through it. You stopped your movements, turned to him, but your fingers remained on the doorknob.
“I just… I want you to stay,” he pleaded, but you raised an unimpressed eyebrow.
You crossed your arms before your chest. You were angry, but at least you weren’t about to open the door anymore…
“Really? Cause you don’t look like you want me around tonight.”
“I do. Please…”
“What’s happening? What’s wrong?”
“I just… I’m sorry… my head’s all over the place… I do want you to stay though. I really do.”
You heaved a sigh, took off your jacket again.
“Talk to me, then, okay? If you don’t want to tell me what’s bothering you, then… tell me about your day. Or anything… I just… I want to understand what’s in your head right now. And please, stop this, your skin is all red.”
He was surprised when you reached for his hand, stopped his nervous gesture, and rubbed soothing circles in the back of his hand.
“Why did you talk about Frank?”
Andrew looked down at his feet. You were still wearing your shoes.
“That…that was really hurtful.”
“I’m sorry…” he mumbled under his breath.
“Why would you say that? Did you mean that? Do you… do you want to get back with Sam?”
“What?! Of course not!”
“Why would you say something like that, then?!”
“Because I… I don’t…”
He heaved a frustrated sigh.
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
Slowly, you nodded. He could see you were hurting though…
He was hurting you. He was hurting you… his silence was hurting you…
God, it was so painful to admit it all this out loud.
“I’m afraid.”
You gave his hand a reassuring squeeze, your expression softening.
“I’m afraid… about this. About you… leaving, and… I’m afraid you’re going to regret Frank. I’m afraid you’d choose him over me. And I’m… I’m afraid to go too fast, and to make you freak out. And I’m afraid because… I’m not changing for you, and that means I’m not giving you what you want, and…”
“Wait… what?”
“Sam… I was quiet with her, and I knew what parts of me she didn’t like, and so I tuned them down, but you’re… tonight you said you didn’t want me quiet, the way she wanted me, so… so what should I do? What should I do, so you can love me?”
He blinked tears away, and he hated it, he hated being so vulnerable before you, you could destroy him entirely with how much of his heart you owned and…
You reached up to gently stroke his cheek, and he was taken aback by your tender gesture.
“Andy… I don’t want you to change anything for me. I love you. Just as you are. I don’t want you to be quiet, I don’t want you to tune down any part of you. I just… want to be with you. That’s all. And I don’t regret Frank, not at all. I’m very happy with you.”
He blinked, trying to process your words.
“Really?”
“Yeah, really. And I… I would choose you over him. If I had to make that choice, I would choose you. I love you, not him. Not anymore.”
He brushed the tear that had begun rolling down his cheek, nodded.
He wasn’t sure he believed everything you were saying, and yet he knew you were earnest, that you weren’t lying.
“I’m sorry for tonight, I just… got really into my head, and just… I really doubted… everything, and… I’m sorry. Please, don’t leave, Y/N. I don’t want you to leave.”
“What do you want then? Earnestly. What do you want?”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“Why would it be? I’m your girlfriend, you can tell me anything.”
He forced the words out of his mouth, despite how vulnerable it made him feel.
“I… I really want you to hold me, right now.”
He let out a wry laugh.
“Christ, that’s pathetic…”
But before he could add another word, you were holding him in a tight embrace. All he could do was to hold you just as tightly.
“What about we go to bed, and cuddle?” you offered.
“Yeah… please…”
“Alright, I’ll get changed, okay?”
“Okay.”
You took off your shoes, picked up the pyjamas you had left in his drawer a couple of weeks ago, and disappeared in the bathroom. Then, Andrew got changed as well, and when he walked inside his bedroom again, you were already in his bed, waiting for him.
“Come here,” you invited him, opening your arms for him.
Slowly, like he couldn’t quite believe it, Andrew walked around the bed, lied down and nestled into your embrace, burying his face into your neck. For the first time that day, he let his body fully relax.
“You’re okay?” you asked, and he hummed in response.
“Yeah… much better. I’m sorry…”
“It’s okay. We can talk about it again tomorrow. Let’s just rest now.”
You turned off the lamp on your bedside table, and in your arms, Andrew was out like a light.
Andrew woke up to the smell of coffee.
You had closed the door of his bedroom when you got up, to let him rest a little longer. As classes were over for this year, you could allow yourselves to arrive later at work. As long as the job was done, no one cared when you arrived or left.
He checked the time, it was almost 8 am.
He forced his body to move, to get up, groaned as he stretched the sleeping muscles of his long back. He almost hit his head in the doorframe, forgetting for a second that he needed to bend to avoid it.
You were there alright, in your pyjamas, putting butter on toasts and talking to Elwood. Andrew’s heart melted at the sight.
You fitted so well in his life, in his home… this was obvious, you and him. Everything about it was obviously right, so why was he sabotaging himself?
You turned to him as you heard him enter the room, welcomed him with a smile. But it wasn’t as bright as your usual ones, and a lump crept up Andrew’s throat.
“Morning, babe,” you greeted him, voice soft.
“Morning, love.”
He wanted to reach out, to hold you close, to kiss you and apologise, but he was too afraid of messing up everything again…
“Slept well?” he asked instead. “Thanks for breakfast.”
“Yeah, I slept well.”
You poured him a coffee, stared at him as if gauging his reaction.
He heaved a sigh.
“I’m sorry about last night,” he let out in a whisper.
“It’s okay.”
“It’s not. It… it really is not. I’m sorry.”
“I just… I don’t really understand what happened.”
He started fidgeting, but he spoke anyway.
“I… like… I was stressed, and tired, and got stuck into my own head and… I think… I got really insecure.”
He heaved a frustrated sigh.
“I’m not… I’m not very good at talking about how I feel in those moments. I just… get stuck in my own ugly thoughts, and I fuck up everything.”
Slowly, you nodded.
“I see… is that okay if we talk about last night some more?”
“Sure… yeah…”
“Andy… Look, I’m sorry if I didn’t react well. Maybe I could have handled that situation better…”
“It wasn’t your fault, it was mine,” Andrew shook his head. “I told you, I got stuck in my head, and was a mess…”
“Maybe I’ve triggered this…”
“You didn’t. Really, Y/N… none of this is your fault. I’m sorry.”
“Last night… you said some things… we need to talk about them.”
“Do we?”
He averted his eyes, spinning his toast in his hand, without taking a bite.
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” you said in a weaker voice. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologise, it’s not your fault.”
He knew you were right. You needed to talk about last night. He needed to clear the air, make up for the stupid things he said.
The stupidest of all was easy to remember.
“I’m sorry I mentioned Frank. It was cruel, and uncalled for.”
“Why did you say that?”
He shrugged.
“I just… I don’t know.”
“It hurt.”
“I know. I’m sorry. Like… I’m scared, Y/N. I’m really scared you’re going to wake up soon and regret giving me a chance, and regret not fighting for him more and…”
“I’ll never regret you, Andy.”
He looked up at you again, let his heart bloom with hope.
“I… I don’t have everything figured out either when it comes to us,” you admitted. “Sometimes, I worry too… that you’re going to leave, that you’d rather be with Sam. But I need to believe that you’d choose me over her. And you have to believe me when I tell you that I would not hesitate for a second. I would choose you, Andy. Even if Frank came begging to get me back, I would not hesitate, and I would choose you. I don’t love him anymore, I love you.”
Slowly, he nodded.
“Do you believe me?”
He couldn’t lie to you, he simply couldn’t. He knew you were being vulnerable now, and he couldn’t answer with a lie, even if it meant to make things harder for you.
“I know you’re telling the truth,” he nodded. “But I… my brain just… like… I’m really struggling believing that’s the case.”
“Why? Don’t you trust me?”
“I do. Of course, I do. But I’m… I’m not used to having someone who loves me the way you do. And with how Sam left, I… I thought she was a safe place, and it turned out she wasn’t. It’s hard to come back from that.”
Slowly, you nodded.
“I understand.”
“It’s not that I believe you’re lying, or that you could hurt me on purpose. It’s more that… I feel like you’re going to wake up one day, and realise you’ve made the wrong choice, and you’re just going to leave…”
“The way Sam did.”
“Yeah…”
“I’m not her, Andy.”
“I know. And I’m not Frank. Could you love me the way you loved him?”
He was surprised when you smiled, and even more so when you got up and walked over to him. He pushed back his chair so you could stand between his parted legs, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“I don’t want things to be the way they were with Frank,” you answered, staring intensely into his eyes, and he lost himself in the shades of your gaze. “I want better than him. You are better than him. I want to love you better than Sam loved you, too. I want this to be better, Andy. I’m not going to love you the way I loved Frank. I’m going to be happier with you.”
His heart grew warm at your words, at the sincerity in your voice and eyes as you spoke them. He blinked tears away…
God, he was such a sap, these days… crying over everything…
“All I want is for you to be happy, Y/N,” he whispered.
“And I want you to be happy, too.”
“I’m happy with you.”
You held him close, he nuzzled his face into your chest, his forehead resting against your chin.
“I’m happy with you,” you confessed. “And Andy… last night… I meant what I said. I don’t want you to change. I want you. Okay? I want you to be yourself when you’re with me. I want to talk with you. I want to hear everything you have to say. And I… I don’t want you to be afraid when you’re with me. I love you. I want to be here, with you. I’m certain about this. This… us… it feels so right…”
He took a moment to let your words sink in. And perhaps he could learn to believe them. That you could love him fully, like that. Yeah… yeah, he could believe that, with a little bit of time…
“Loving you is… I feel like myself when you’re with me,” he admitted in a fragile whisper. “And it’s… it makes me happy. But I’m not quite used to that. I’m sorry, if it takes me some time to adjust.”
“I understand. You can take all the time you need. Just… just promise me you won’t use Frank and Sam against me ever again…”
“I won’t. I promise you, I won’t.”
“Okay… I promise I won’t either.”
“Thank you.”
You heaved a relieved sigh.
“We should get ready for work.”
“This is nice, though… give us five more minutes.”
You chuckled, making him smile.
And he thought back about his mother’s words, and he forced himself not to be so scared anymore.
“Baby?”
“Hmm?” you hummed, kissing his hair, holding him close to you.
“Would you like to come to my parents’ for dinner this weekend?”
He was surprised when you started laughing.
“So… we’re resolving our first real fight… and you directly jump to bringing me to your parents’?”
He couldn’t help but laugh too.
“Yeah… that’s a way to change the subject, I guess,” he joked, making you laugh again. “My mom asked for you to come, though.”
“Really?”
“Hmmm…”
“And you want me to come?”
“Yeah… but I’m worried I’m going too fast. I don’t mean to freak you out.”
“Who will be there?”
“My parents and my brother.”
“I’ve never met your brother.”
“No… but you’ve met my parents.”
“Yeah… and you have to warn your father, by the way… I will ask for our bet to be honoured. He lost. I was right about the rugby match we placed bets on. He owes me a beer.”
Andrew laughed.
“Alright… I’ll warn him. Do you want to come, then?”
“Of course, I want to come.”
“Is it not too soon?”
“No… it’s okay… I want to see them. And I want my free beer.”
You were laughing at your own joke, but he quickly shushed you with his lips.
Yes… perhaps, one day, he could believe that you loved him as much as he loved you…

On a Wing and a Prayer
Part 6 - The Last Goodbye
CW: Angst, thoughts of self harm.
Christmas is a tough time for me. Writing this part has really helped.
Previous parts - masterlist - next
A nurse shakes you awake. It’s a different nurse, one you don’t recognise. You prop yourself up getting ready to move but Johnny’s arms lock round you pulling you back up against him.
“Johnny, there's a nurse here.” You say as he nuzzles his nose into your neck.
“C’mon, don’t leave.” It breaks your heart. You force yourself to get out of bed. He sits up while the nurse walks over to do his obs. You bend down putting your boots back on.
“I mean it lass, please don’t leave, this room, or 141.” Your breath catches in your throat. Of course John told them. You hang your head. Guilt that's all you can feel.
“How do you think I can work with them again after-” it's pitiful the sob you let out, choking on the words. You can’t see good memories when you think of them, it's just pain.
“I'll make them apologise. I’ll make them make it up to you. Whatever you want.” He says. You smile at his enthusiasm, you can’t blame him. The nurse finishes up, writing something in his chart before leaving. You move up to him and kiss him, he kisses you back, his hands grabbing your arms like he wants to pull you back in bed.
“I’m sorry Johnny, I need to go. I love you and Gaz. I always will.” He looks at you with pleading in his eyes. You have to hold it together, you can’t let him see you upset. Your hand goes up to brush his cheek.
“I can’t love them right now. I can't, I'm sorry.” You let go of his face heading to leave the room.
“Then me and Gaz will leave.” It stops you in your tracks, you turn back to look at him.
“Johnny, you can’t do that. They’re your family, your brothers-in-arms. You’re not going to leave them, you can't.” You say, now you’re pleading.
“They hurt you. I can’t forgive them for that.”
“Yes you can Johnny, you have to, because I can’t.”
“I’m so sorry they did this to you.” He says, you can hear the break in his voice even though he’s trying to hide it.
“Yeah, me too.” You say as you leave the room.
______________
You’re in your room, packing, the duffle bag you unpacked less than a month ago is open again. It feels wrong throwing your gear in like you’re about to go home. You are about to go home, for a few months at least.
John would only sign your transfer if you promised to see a therapist. You agreed to whatever he said, you just needed to get away. Talking to him was the hardest, at least with Simon he keeps himself to himself. John on the other time spends his time trying to apologise.
Kyle has already been round asking if you need help. John has passed the hallway a few times, probably just to check on how you’re doing. He never says anything or offers to help but you can feel his presence.
When Simon comes to the door the energy in the room changes. Hair stands up on the back of your neck, you turn your head slightly to see him as you fold your spare trousers up.
“What do you want?” you say almost snapping at him.
“You don't have to leave.” Simon says. You look up at him. You tried to avoid his eyes, the only part of him he leaves exposed. His eyes just look dark, there's no love behind them. No hidden kindness.
“I do, I can't stand being in the same room as you. How the hell am I going to save you in the field?” You throw another shirt into the bag.
“I want you to stay.” He says, you squeeze your eyes closed for a second feeling pain rise in your chest. Johnny and Kyle have already asked you to stay, they’ve already let their facades fall asking you as a partner, a lover, rather than a teammate or a person.
“Then you shouldn’t have hurt me.” It comes out with a sob, you can’t help it. You clear your throat getting back to your bag. You hear Simon move behind you, his steps loud in the silence of the hall.
“You’re right, I shouldn’t have hurt you.” His voice is low, you hear the croak in his words. You wipe the tears away as he talks.
You turn to shout at him but he's gone and a petrified looking soldier stands in your doorway.
"The base commander would like to see you."
________
You knock on the conference room door. Simon left before you, you spent a few seconds panicking. Why does the base commander need to see you?
“Come in.” You suck it up walking into the room. You look round, the base commander is standing at the top of the oval table. John and Simon are in chairs avoiding your gaze, you look at them for a second before waking up to the general. You step up to him, planting your feet on the floor putting your arms behind your back.
You’re going to be professional, that's all they get. You don’t want to lose your job.
“You’ve asked to move units?” The general asks.
“Yes sir.” You reply trying to hide the bitterness in your voice.
“As per the protocol I would like some feedback on your current unit-” He looks down at a piece of paper before looking back up at you. “-Special forces unit 141 led by Captain Price.” You swallow hard keeping your body locked in place.
“Captain Price is extremely professional and proficient in his field. He commands his unit to the highest standard. I can only speak well of 141 and it's ongoing fight against terrorism.” You say holding back the sob rising in your throat. It's rehearsed words, you don't even feel anything as they come out.
The general smiles looking over at Simon and John quickly before turning his attention to you. “You speak highly of your unit. Is there any reason in particular you’re requesting a transfer?”
“Personal reasons sir,” you say. It’s the truth, they’re good at their job. You know that from personal experience. The world needs good counter terrorism units like theirs. For queen and country above all.
“Well, your transfer is approved pending a psych evaluation. You will receive your new posting after said conditions have been met.” The general signs something then hands it to you.
“Do you have any other questions, sergeant?” He asks, you look down at the paper. That's it, it's official. You’re no longer part of 141.
“No sir, thank you.” You say, he nods at you, you salute him, turning to look at John and Simon, both their eyes are on you. You look at them both then head for the door, you hope this is the last time you will ever see them.
______________
You’re walking to the exit of the base, carrying your heavy duffle bag over your back but it feels like a weight has been lifted. It’s only when you hear Kyle shouting for you the bag suddenly feels like it weighs 100 kilos.
You turn to look at him, stopping in your tracks.
“You didn’t come to say goodbye.” He says, his hand resting on your shoulder.
“I can’t. I can’t look you or Johnny in the eyes and leave.” You say, you’re trying not to snap at him.
“Then don’t leave.” Kyle says. There it is again, the pain firing through your chest, like a stab to the heart.
“Christ, Kyle. I can’t. I can’t look at any of you without wanting to run away, I could hurt you or-” Your voice is ringing in your ears. You’re hurting him. You’re screaming at Kyle and he did nothing wrong. Or maybe he did, Johnny and Kyle have been part of 141 for years. You joined a year ago. 12 months.
You walk up to Kyle pressing your lips onto his, your hand wrapping around his waist. You kiss him deep, your tongue playing with his. You don’t care who sees.
“I love you.” You say as you break from the kiss, pressing your forehead to his. “I’ll keep in touch. I promise. You and Johnny, if you want?”
“Of course I want that. Johnny too. I know you’re hurt but we’re here, day or night.” he says. You smile pulling away from him. You pull the duffle back bag tighter over your shoulder, turning away.
“Go save the world Gaz.” You call walking out the base. He smiles at you, his hand running over his head.
“Always!” he calls. There it is, the break. The crack in his voice, the tears down his face.
You feel the guilt, you turn away heading over to the bus stop. You wish you could change things, make things better but you can’t. You can’t forgive John and Simon. Not now, not for a long time.

christmas kids
about him, who was also born on december 25th. i used to spot your face in every crowd, now i can’t even remember your smile.
— kaiser hates celebrating his birthday. no exceptions; not even for you.
cw: mentions of kaiser’s backstory, gesner being vulgar (im his biggest fan), kaiser is a meany pants, self deprecation
parties like these were a pain. kaiser stood beside his drunken teammates, while ‘all i want for christmas is you’ by mariah carey blasted for the 6th time on loop. it was disgustingly corny how he’d have to act as if he gives a damn to celebrate christmas with his co-workers. if the club owner for bastard münchen hadn’t required attendance for this party, he would’ve definitely skipped it.
to be entirely honest, he never even saw the point of celebrating december 25th. every year, the streets of berlin would be glowing with festive lights, and the halls of cathedrals would loudly ring their church bells.
but in kaiser’s dark corner of hell, his father would beat the life out of him. more so than usual— his eyes would bruise purple for weeks, and his nose wouldn’t stop the stream of red that would bleed all over his ragged clothes.
kaiser had learned from a young age, his birthday wasn’t something that should be celebrated, or even acknowledged. it was the day his scummy mother abandoned his even scummier father; it was the day trash was born. how could such an occasion even be celebrated?
with his birthday being public knowledge though, he doesn’t exactly have a choice on if he wants to celebrate it or not.
as clock struck midnight, everyone yelled out christmas greetings and wishes of good will, as well as greetings for kaiser, now a year older.
“woo! happy birthday, asshat! you’re 19!” gesner, incredibly drunk, slurs to kaiser. “a year closer to your death… in the end, we’re all just waiting for the day we never open our eyes again… oh, this is just too sad…” grim shudders, falling to the ground.
birkenstock pulls grim off the floor, and the team gathers around and very off tunely sings happy birthday to kaiser, while ness struggles to light the candle placed on top of the leftover pizza, yet to be finished.
“…happy birthday to you!” they cheer. “make a wish, kaiser.” ness smiles, holding the box.
‘what do i want..?’ he asks himself. he already has a lot more than he’s ever wanted; a comfortable home, decent company— asking for anything else would just seem… wrong.
the candle gleamed a burning red, its’ shine reflecting on kaiser’s face. the hot flames on his face, and he suddenly realizes what he wants— to be human.
that’s all he’s wanted for the longest time, why should he wish for anything else?
he blows out the candle, and they clap. “you guys didn’t need to do anything, i didn’t want to celebrate my birthday.” he lightly reprimanded. ness frowns, he was the one who had wanted surprise kaiser in the first place.
but, gesner boos at his pessimism. “don’t be a jerk, dick cheese! just accept it!” he roughly slaps kaiser on his back, kicking all the air out of his lungs. “oof..!” he coughs. “g..guh… are you sure you’re a football player? you slap so hard, you’re better suited to volleyball.”
gesner scoffs, and goes off on his rant about kaiser’s narcissism.
‘this environment… it’s hostile but, i’m still in control. this… isn’t that bad.’ kaiser thinks to himself. he doesn’t receive their goodwill; he forces it out of them, and they respond with their own form of resistance. yet, they still pass to him, no matter what. because, he’s the one in charge of this team.
“…and, you keep showing off that pretty thing you’re leaving on the hook. she could totally do better than that ‘will they, won’t they?’ situationship of your’s! seriously makes me feel bad for her…”
…kaiser wasn’t exactly sure what brought gesner to bring you up. but, bringing up your… relationship, was a bit of a sour spot for him.
he wanted to love you, you were someone he wanted to stick around for a while. you were kind, almost heaven-sent. something about you that would make him keep coming back. maybe it was the way you’d wake up early with him and make breakfast together, or the way you’d sass him and put him in his place when he was being an asshole. but, he couldn’t make up his mind on whether or not he should tear down those walls he’s built, and start over for you.
kaiser was used to restrictive environments, he thrived in discomfort. but, being vulnerable simply made his skin crawl with disgust. if it was for someone for you though… maybe he could try it. were you really worth it?
…he thinks you could be.
“it’s not a situationship, we’re just hanging out.” kaiser rolls his eyes, taking a sip of his mocktail. “plus, don’t you already have a girl you’re torturing?” he condescends.
thankfully, the party goes on without a fight starting, or kaiser’s birthday being mentioned anymore further.
and by the time kaiser arrives home, it’s already 2:30. he opens the door into his penthouse apartment.
the light is on.
he’s sure he didn’t leave the light on when he had left, there’s only one other explanation.
“s/o?” he called out.
you probably used the spare key for his apartment he gave you after much more frequent visits. did you think he was home?
“ah, hey!” you finally noticed his presence, waving hello. kaiser still had a suspicious glare on his face, his malice evident simply by his tone. “what are you doing here?”
“it’s your birthday!”
“so?”
“so, it has to be celebrated..! it was the day you were born after all.” you brainlessly informed him.
“i don’t celebrate it.” he sighs as he finally shuts the front door, dropping all his belongings on the console table.
“it’s the same day as christmas. it’s a hassle to celebrate two things.” he says the same excuse he’s used millions of times before but today, his act was getting sloppy. it’s clear by his sullen eyes that it’s more than just because it’s a hassle.
“uhuh… well, i made you a cake!”you urge him to come over. of course, it was a box set cake, but you still put tons of effort into decorating it!
what does he do? he wasn’t exactly sure on how to accept gifts in general. he passed through the narrow hall, and into the dining area.
he stared at the cake— it’s frosted in white french buttercream and its’ edges are piped blue with a french star tip. ‘happy birthday mikka’, it reads.
mikka… that isn’t a nickname that you’ve called him before. but, it’s cute. fuck, did he actually like this gift..?
‘…how sweet.’ he thinks. kaiser picked up the box with both his hands, his touch was so delicate. he carried the cake over to the kitchen counter,
…and opened the trash.
“hey! what are you doing..?!” you run to stop him from dumping your hard work into the garbage.
it doesn’t stop him though, it doesn’t even make him struggle. “i told you i don’t celebrate it.” he huffs as some of the cake crumbles and stains his hands.
he takes a frosting-covered finger to his lips, indulging in his salty sweet taste. “ah… it’s good.” he compliments. something that only happens to make you angrier.
“then why did you throw it in the garbage, asshole?!” you yell out. how insensitive could a person get?!
“i already told you, or are those ears of your’s just for decoration?” he scoffs, the air is heavy.
and at that moment, he knew it.
michael kaiser is not meant to love, or be loved.
…
“get out.” he commands. his cold eyes hit you like a dagger. “h..huh..?” you ask, indignant at how you were being treated.
you knew kaiser would be hard to unravel but, why is he acting so different so suddenly?
“i said get out. i already decided…”
“…we’re over, s/o” he decreed. “whatever romance you and i might have had is gone. go find someone else to care about you. i’m not gonna fit your romantic fantasy.”
“i— wait, mikka, we can work this out, okay..?!” you ask, a panicked expression decorating your face. “goddamnit, fine— i’m sorry for calling you an asshole, okay?!”
you sound almost desperate in your tone. but, it still doesn’t shake his decision. “no… get out. find someone who can fulfill that fantasy of your’s, i’m never gonna be the perfect boyfriend that you’re dreaming about. understand?”
and, the cold reality faces you. a look of despair on your face, it’s incredibly pathetic to be in this low of a position right now.
ah, that look on your face… he’ll miss that look of terror and desperation, on your face especially. the way your pretty eyes gleam with tears, and the way your nose scrunches, trying to hold back your snot.
“…fine. i hope you’re happy with your life, kaiser.” you spitefully spit out. his chest hurts when he hears you call him by his last name. did that hurt him..? just a little bit…
…and, that’s when kaiser asks himself the same question.
were you really worth tearing down everything he’s known just to build it all up again?
the answer was yes. you’re worth everything money could afford; you’re as priceless as every star in the sky.
it was kaiser who wasn’t worth it. you deserved more than a scummy asshole who’s too scared love.
but, that’s just the problem with kaiser, isn’t it?
the closer he wants you, the more he pushes you away.

dirty filthy truckers universe masterlist
Ok so here’s the thing: trucker Jake Jensen LOVES Christmas. (Honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to convince me this isn’t true to canon Jake Jensen—he just seems like the kind of guy who’d love Christmas!)
I imagine Jake didn’t have the best childhood. Maybe he had some really magical Christmases when he was very little, but then his parents became absent or they died when he was still pretty young, or a mixture of the two. His parents not being around is why he’s so close to his sister and niece, and why family is important to him.
But I digress. The point is, I think Jake had a lot of lackluster Christmases, and he realized that if he wanted Christmas cheer in his life, he was going to have to be the one to make it. And boy does he.
Now, I should also mention that I think Jake’s reader had a similar childhood experience. You grew up with cold, sparse Christmases—maybe your parent/parents would get a tree but it was fake and pre-lit and they’d only decorate it with generic decorations.
All the homemade ornaments you brought home from school might’ve been hung up on the tree that year, but your parents would toss them when putting everything away and you’d have to dig them out of the trash. Eventually, you stopped giving them to your parents and kept them in a shoebox under your bed. You’ve kept the box, but never hung them up.
Unlike Jake, you stuck with what was comfortable because it was what you’d always known, so you weren’t very big on decorating for Christmas. Most years, you wouldn’t even get a tree.
You’d always figure you’d get one when you got a day off from Diesel Dolls, but then you’d spend your days off relaxing and not wanting to go through the process of getting a tree, lugging it back to your apartment alone, and then decorating it.
All this is to say, you’re not the type to even think about asking Jake if you can decorate the inside of his rig for the holidays. But that’s ok, because he’s way ahead of you.
Early in November—so early, you’re not even thinking about Christmas yet—Jake gets a motel room for the night. This isn’t out of the ordinary, he likes to get a room when the both of you are craving a shower and some sex in a real bed.
That night, Jake fucks you to sleep. Literally. He makes you come so much, you pass out and are snoring softly before he can even grab a warm washcloth from the bathroom to clean you up.
Jake watches you sleep for a little while (it’s cute, not creepy, I swear), but when he tries to doze off himself, he can’t. He’s heard the stories about your austere childhood Christmases and he’s determined to bring you some Christmas magic.
So while you sleep, he pulls out the boxes and boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations he keeps in the storage of his rig. He spends all night stringing lights and hanging garlands and other decorations until the front seats and the bunk in the back are so stuffed, there’s barely room to sit, let alone move around.
It’s all worth it for the expression on your face when you see what he’s done, though. The way your eyes light up with surprise and delight and even a touch of wonder. It’s more Christmas than you’ve ever seen before crammed into the small space of his rig and you… love it.
You love it more than you ever thought possible and you’re speechless as you climb up into the rig and flop into the driver’s seat, your eyes greedily looking around at all the decorations while your mouth hangs open in surprise.
There’s even a little plastic Christmas tree fixed to the dashboard, tiny little lights twinkling. It’s all so perfect, so wonderful, that you don’t know what to say.
“Do you… like it?” Jake asks tentatively, his hands on either side of the open door, one foot on the step up into the rig, while he watches you taking it all in. He thought he’d read you right, that you’d enjoy some Christmas cheer, but he’s beginning to worry he’d been wrong.
Unable to find the words for how you feel, you turn back to Jake with tears in your eyes and you practically tackle him, arms wrapping around his shoulders as you kiss him hard. He stumbles back a step into the parking lot of the motel, his arms bracing you against his chest while he kisses you back.
Jake turns to walk you backward into the motel room, but you make a sound of protest. Kissing his stupidly handsome face—including the goatee you love so much—and knocking his glasses a little askew, you drag him back into the rig, impatiently waiting while he closes and locks the door behind you. Then you haul him into the bunk in the back until he covers your body with his own.
Quickly, the two of you tear your clothes off, and when Jake slides inside you, filling you up perfectly the way that only he can, you feel like your heart grows two sizes. You’re so happy, tears slip from your eyes and slide down your temples into your hair while Jake coos at you and kisses the tears from your skin.
“Don’t cry, kitten, I’ve got you, I’ve got you,” he murmurs in your ear, his hips working you open with his cock until you’re moaning more than you’re crying. You can’t even find the words to tell him they’re happy tears, you just cling to him and hold him tight in your arms.
Jake fucks you slow and sweet in his rig while you’re surrounded by a ridiculous amount of Christmas decorations—so much that when Jake hikes your thigh up around his hip, you accidentally kick some loose. But Jake doesn’t care enough to stop, filling you over and over again in a steady rhythm that drives you wild, pleasure coiling in your core.
He makes you come while a fallen garland tangles around your entwined legs, the snowflakes he’s hung from the ceiling swaying with the force of his thrusting. And then he tumbles over the edge after you, filling you up with his come and holding you close as you catch your breath together.
You laugh at the mess the two of you have made of his decorations and he chuckles right along with you, telling you he’ll fix them before you get back on the road. You snuggle into him and thank him for the early Christmas present.
But you have no idea what else Jake has in store for you because, like I said, he LOVES Christmas.
I imagine Jake has a house somewhere deep in the Rocky Mountains, high enough that there’s guaranteed to be snow at Christmas. It’s so remote, in fact, that there wouldn’t be any service or cable if not for the robust satellite setup he has.
Your first Christmas together, he takes you to his house and pulls the same trick he did with the truck rig, where he decorates the house to the max while you’re asleep. (It isn’t uncommon for Jake to go a couple days without sleeping. He used to be in the military and it fucked with his ability to maintain a normal routine, which is why he enjoys the freedom that comes with being a trucker.)
The only thing Jake leaves undecorated is the tree. It’s a fresh pine he had shipped to his house, and set up in the massive living room, the tall tree taking up an entire corner by itself.
Jake makes you some coffee while you look at the decorations he’s put up and then you sit on the couch sipping it while he strings the lights on the tree. He’s focused and methodical while he works, and you can’t help but get a little turned on by the cute, determined expression on his face and the way his biceps bulge and flex.
But when he’s done, the heat that had been simmering in your core is extinguished because Jake pulls out a shoebox that looks far too familiar, and it brings up far too many painful memories.
Jake sits down beside you, his head hanging a little like a guilty puppy while he tells you he pilfered it from your apartment the last time he was there. He catches your eye and you see the earnestness in his gaze when he asks you to tell him about all the ornaments.
When you hesitate—because you’re not sure whether to be mad at Jake for going through your things or to love him even more for remembering that you’d kep the ornaments—he pulls you into his lap and kisses your forehead.
“I want to know all of you, kitten,” he says gently, tipping your face toward his so he can look into your eyes. “Even the bad parts—especially the bad parts. I want to hear about all your bad Christmas memories so I can replace them with good ones.”
By the time he’s done talking, your eyes are misty with tears and you nod, leaning in for a kiss before you take a deep, steadying breath. It helps that Jake’s arms are big and strong, his chest firm as you lean into him. Then, you open the box.
Jake listens patiently while you pull out each ornament and tell him what you remember about it, the Christmas memories you associate with it. It’s a long, difficult process, but when you’re done, you feel inexplicably lighter.
When you look to Jake, to see his reaction, you find him with red-rimmed eyes, like he cried while you told him about your childhood Christmases. But before you can ask him about it, he captures your lips in the softest, sweetest kiss you’ve ever felt. Once he pulls away, he helps you up from the couch and, together, you hang the ornaments on the tree.
Then you spend the rest of the morning hanging up all of Jake’s tree ornaments—of which there are many—and he tells you stories about his sister and his niece. By the time you’re done, you feel filled up with Christmas cheer and you drag Jake back down onto the couch.
There, under the lights of the Christmas tree and all the decorations overflowing his mountain home, you kiss your trucker prince charming and show him how happy you are to be spending the holiday with him.

one knee down ( m.s )
warnings: profanity, fluff (christmas proposal!!)
it's christmas morning, and the house is warm, the faint scent of pine filling the air. everything feels calm — almost too calm, as if the world is waiting for something to happen. you sit beside Matt, a cup of coffee in your hands, watching the way the light from the tree bounces off the ornaments. the quiet hum of the season settles around you, but there's an unspoken anticipation in the air. he's been acting a little strange this morning, like he's holding something back, and it’s making you curious.
he watches you for a moment, his expression soft but focused. “open this,” he says, pushing a small box toward you, the paper simple, wrapped with care.
you give him a curious look but smile, tearing off the paper. inside the box is a ticket, bold and official, and your heart jumps in your chest when you read it: Biltmore Estate—Christmas Tour.
“you can't be serious,” you mutter, almost laughing. you’ve talked about going for a while now, but it always seemed like something for another time. a future trip, something that was nice to think about, but never quite real.
“deadass,” he says with a grin, leaning back in his chair. “i thought it’d be fun. the whole place is insane this time of year,” there's something in his voice that makes you raise an eyebrow, but you can’t help the excitement blooming in your chest.
so, within hours, you two are on the road, the snow falling in delicate swirls, the landscape unfolding in a blur of white and green. the estate stands ahead, like something from another world — massive, grand, and covered in the quiet of winter.
you both step out of the car, the cold air biting at your skin, but the anticipation keeps you warm. he grabs your hand, squeezing it as you make your way toward the house, which looks more incredible in person than you ever imagined. there’s a magic to the place — something about the way the lights shine in the trees, the way the mansion seems to glow against the winter sky. everything is beautifully decorated, the details rich and perfect, like a postcard come to life.
but it's when you get to the gardens, the stone pathways winding through the trees, that the moment shifts. the crowd has thinned out here, and you’re alone with him in this quiet space, the world muffled by the snow. you stop to look at the view — the mountains in the distance, the snow settling over the landscape in layers of white and grey. it’s peaceful, serene, the kind of moment you’ll remember for a long time.
“this is incredible,” you say, your voice low, almost like a secret shared between you and the view. “i’m really glad we came,”
he doesn’t respond right away. you glance over at him, and there’s something different about the way he’s looking at you — calm but serious. for a second, you wonder if you imagined it, but then, slowly, he reaches into his jacket, his fingers brushing against something hidden inside.
your heart skips a beat when he kneels down, the snow crunching under his weight. it’s sudden, and yet, in that moment, everything feels like it’s been leading up to this.
“Matthew,” you breathe, watching him intently.
he looks up at you, the corners of his mouth lifting just enough for you to see the sincerity in his eyes. “i've waited long enough for this moment. every day with you feels like it should have started sooner,” his voice is steady, quiet. “please marry me,”
he pulls out the ring then, a simple band with a single stone — nothing flashy, but it’s beautiful in the way that everything about this moment feels real.
you don’t need to think. it’s an instinct, a truth, something that has already been settled inside you long before this.
“yes,” you say, barely able to breathe as you slide your fingers into his hand. “yes, of course,”
he stands up, pulling you in, his arms wrapping around you as the snow continues to fall, soft and silent. for a moment, there’s nothing but the two of you, and the quiet peace that’s settled over the world around you.
“i love you,” he says, his voice muffled by your neck that he placed a gentle kiss to.
“i love you too,” you reply, and the words feel like the easiest thing in the world.

Yoongi isn’t one for soft and warm gestures. There’s no point in them.
So why did he wake up way too early to get the stupid little pine tree from the markets, so he can put a very badly wrapped piece of dumb jewelry under that tree? Well, because it might make you happy.
And yoongi likes seeing you happy.
When he wakes you with a hand on your shoulder, you’re disoriented at first- a bit panicked even, unsure if something is wrong since he rarely wakes up before you- but then you see it.
There’s a thin string of neon lights probably meant for a different purpose than decoration wrapped around a very small pine tree- and somewhat next and under it, is a small box. It’s wrapped carefully, paper held together by a simple nylon string.
“..yoongi.” You look towards him, and he panicks a little. This isn’t the kind of look he was hoping for when planning this. God, why are humans so complicated? You look like you’re about to cry even, what did he do wrong?
And then, suddenly, you’re in his arms. Head buried into his shoulder, arms around him, and he can’t even move for a good second or two as he’s bombarded with both your scent and your warmth. Things he’s been thinking about- but that’s what it was. Thoughts.
“thank you.” You mumble into his neck, before you move towards the small plant on the table. “how- did you know about this?” You wonder. “human traditions aren’t really common anymore.”
“No, but information on them is freely available.” He says, trying to control his heart from beating too hard. “you’ve.. been down lately. Your mood has been terrible.” He tries to downplay his actions by attempting to blame it on simple convenience. “I saw it and remembered someone talking about a human holiday that makes people happy.” He shrugs.
“What is it?” You wonder as you pick up the small box wrapped in simple newspaper.
“open it.” He just tells you, unable to hide his amusement when you do so with the outmost care, cherishing his efforts.
‘Do not purr.’ He tells himself. ‘You’re not a goddam pet.’
You look at the chain you take out the velvet bag inside the box, and you’re confused at first. Yoongi notices rather quickly, walking closer to take it from you. “it’s made from Iastine Metal. Lasts longer and.. should be more comfortable than what you wear now.” He says as he points to your identification still around your neck. “it’s.. got your name and ID engraved on here. Can be scanned, too.” He mumbles as he shows you the small Metal tag- looking more decorative than only purposeful. The metal is silver, but with a warm touch, reflecting in multiple hues of purple and red when catching the light.
“it looks.. expensive.” You worry, but he just shrugs, before his hands move to take your collar off at the scan of his own ID chip in his wrist.
“Its an investment.” He tries to justify, before he moves the chain around your neck instead, closing it with an odd snap or crack that startles you a bit. “the connecting piece sparks with a chemical reaction to bind the two ends together on a molecular level.”
“..so I can’t loose it?” You joke, as he looks at your neck, words tumbling out before he can stop them.
“And I won’t loose you.” He says.
It’s quiet after that, and odd tension filling the room, one of his hands still near your neck. “was it.. alright that I hugged you?” You ask quietly.
“I didn’t push you away now, did I?” He responds.
“That’s not a proper answer.”
He stutters a bit at that, deep in thought before he speaks once more, hand leaving your close proximity.
“It was.” He reassures you.
“yoongi?” You ask again, and he sighs in fake annoyance. “now I feel bad. What can I gift you?” You ask him, and he stares you down for a moment, thinking of an answer.
“I just need you to promise me something.” He says, sitting on the edge of the bed with you next to him, patiently awaiting his request. “tell me if it hurts.”
“Huh?” You ask, unsure what he’s talking about.
“I’m still figuring out what.. you are to me. Or rather, what I want you to possibly be to me.” He explains further. “I know humans are emotionally vulnerable. I’m not very soft, I’m not good at navigating someone else’s emotions. So, tell me if what I’m doing hurts you.” He says.
“as long as what you do is done with.. honest intentions, it won’t hurt.” You tell him.
“What if I sleep with you then?” He boldly asks. “just to realize that’s not what I want after all?” He questions, and you shrug.
“Won’t hurt.” You respond. “because I know why you’re doing it. Just..” you drift off.
“just?” He asks.
“just don’t..” you sigh. “don’t say you love me until you’re really sure of it, okay?” You ask, and he nods.
“Deal.”

terrible twos
for @steddieholidaydrabbles prompt 'christmas'
all of my holiday drabbles will be from the bear hugs universe. many of them could probably be read standalone, but will make the most sense and be enjoyed best if you read that first!
rated m | 702 words | cw: referenced sex | tags: established relationship, fluff, christmas cookies, the awful stage of toddlerhood that parents barely survive
2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣2️⃣
“Daddy! Up!” Sawyer is making grabby hands at Eddie, and Eddie can’t do anything but give in. His hands may be busy rolling cookie dough, but there’s nothing that would stop him from holding his son.
The terrible twos hit early and they hit hard.
Steve insists Rory never had it quite like this, but at barely a year and a half old, Sawyer is always one ‘no’ away from a meltdown. He’s been very independent, and with that independence, he hasn’t wanted to be held unless he’s hurt.
If he’s asking to come up now, Eddie’s gonna do it.
“Cookie?” He asks and Eddie shakes his head.
“Not yet, little dude. It’s still gotta bake in the oven.”
Sawyer’s lip pouts out. “Peas?”
He hears Steve and Rory in the next room, probably playing NHL since that was the gift she wanted most this year. He won’t interrupt them, but Sawyer might if he starts screaming about not having a cookie.
“You can have the first one when it’s done cooking,” Eddie tries to appease him.
Not that he gives in at tantrums. Quite the opposite.
It’s just that it’s Christmas and Sawyer isn’t old enough to understand that he can’t eat raw cookie dough, so this tantrum would be kind of understandable.
“Daddy peas,” Sawyer says again, reaching for the dough on the counter. “Cookie mine?”
“You can pick which one you want when I cut them and you can have it as soon as it’s out of the oven,” Eddie allows. He hopes that’s enough,
“Cookie mine now?”
“Not now. In a tiny bit,” Eddie tries to distract him with the cookie cutters. “Pick a shape. We have Christmas trees…and candy canes…”
“Cookie!”
Eddie laughs, tries to keep his composure at what is surely escalating into a code red situation.
“It’ll be a cookie in any shape, silly goose. What about a nutcracker?” Eddie holds up the shape, but realizes it’s too late.
He’s lost.
“Down! Dada!” Sawyer is kicking his legs to get down and Eddie lets him. But he isn’t going to let him interrupt Steve’s time with Rory, not over this.
“How about a different treat?” Eddie tries, offering the first thing he sees: a piece of chocolate from someone’s stocking. “It’s got caramel!”
Sawyer pauses, thinks about it, shakes his head. His little curls bounce around almost comically as his face starts to get red.
“How about a candy cane?” Eddie offers instead, desperate.
“You wanna push buttons to shoot the puck?” Rory asks from the doorway, Steve right behind her with a knowing look.
“Shoot da puck? Sawyer shoot?” Sawyer asks, distracted enough that Eddie can breathe out.
God, having a toddler with the same temperament he had as a kid is hard. He feels like sending Wayne a fruit basket, maybe a blank check with his signature on it.
“Up!” He runs to Rory, who scoops him up and carries him to the living room, letting him babble mostly nonsensical things the entire way.
Eddie flops to the floor and looks up at Steve.
“How much longer until he’s a reasonable human?”
Steve snorts. “Could be days. Could be years.”
Steve joins him on the floor, reaching out to lace their fingers together. The sound of Sawyer cheering for Rory fills the house and Eddie smiles to himself.
“Did he at least pick a shape for his cookie?” Steve asks.
“Nope. And I don’t even think I have the energy to make them anymore.”
“You want some help?” Steve offers.
Eddie turns his head and watches Steve smirking up at the ceiling.
“Are you gonna make dick shapes when I’m not looking?”
“I’d never.”
Eddie squints his eyes at Steve. “You did last year. I had to shove it in my mouth so no one would see.”
“Don’t act like you’re not used to shoving a dick in your mouth,” Steve laughs.
Eddie rolls his eyes.
“Alright. Watch yourself. We’ve still got hours before anyone’s dick is in anyone’s mouth. And at least four dozen cookies to bake. And a toddler to control.”
Steve kisses him quickly, just a peck. A promise for later.
“Merry Christmas, baby,” Steve says.
“Merry Christmas, sweetheart.”

Your phone rings, and you reluctantly pull your hand from Tim’s to check it. The caller ID displays ‘Unknown,’ and you send the person to voicemail.
“Everything okay?” Tim inquires. “Was that the babysitter?”
“No, everything’s fine. Where were we?”
“We were talking about your dream date.”
“I don’t remember that,” you reply with a smile. “But I think I might already be on it.”
Your phone rings again, and Tim gestures for you to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Four… hundred… thousand,” the distorted voice says slowly.
“I think you have the wrong number,” you reply.
The voice says your name, then asks, “Mother of Mia? I’ll take that sharp inhale as a yes. The price is 400 grand.”
“Price for what?”
Tim watches you with pinched brows, and you avoid meeting his eyes.
“Say hi,” the voice demands.
“Mommy,” your daughter Mia cries.
“400 grand by tomorrow night.”
Realizing that this unknown person has your daughter, you raise your wide eyes to meet Tim’s.
“What?” he asks.
“Ooh, is that the cop? Put him on,” the man on the other end of the phone demands.
You pass the phone to Tim without a word, then grip the napkin in your lap tightly. Tim doesn’t speak, but his jaw tightens with each passing second. He ends the call and then stands.
“Tim,” you whisper.
“Everything is going to be okay,” he promises, offering his hand. “Let’s go.”
You allow Tim to lead you out of the restaurant. Once outside, your chest grows heavy as an uncomfortable pressure builds behind your eyes.
“Tim, I can’t breathe,” you tell him, gripping his hand as you panic.
He turns toward you, releases your hand, and holds your eye contact. “Listen, hey, eyes on me.” When your eyes meet his, he lifts your hand to his chest and presses your palm over his heart. “Breathe with me. In… and out. Good, again. In… out through your mouth. I have no idea what you are feeling right now, but I need you to trust me. I called it in, and I’m going to the station now. We’re going to get Mia back.”
You nod quickly, keeping your hand against Tim’s steady heart as he speaks. “What am I supposed to do?” you whisper.
“Stay strong for Mia. Can you think of anyone who would do this?”
“No. I don’t… no.”
“Okay, well I know people who can find that out. Do you want to go home or come with me to the station?”
You grip Tim’s shirt as you plead, “Please don’t leave me alone.”
Tim pulls you against him and promises, “I’m not going anywhere. We’re going to bring Mia home.”
“Tim, what do you know about the father?” Angela asks. Tim doesn’t acknowledge her, staring out into the bullpen at you, where Luna Grey is consoling you. “Tim?”
“Hmm?” he hums without turning.
“Mia’s dad,” Angela says. “What do you know about him?”
“Not much. He hasn’t been in the picture, ever.”
“She hasn’t told you anything?” Nyla inquires. “No name, no complaints, just that he’s gone?”
“It’s not something I’m overly interested in, Harper.”
“You stand from your seat and rush toward Tim. He extends his arms toward you, but you press your ringing phone into his hand.
“He’s calling again,” he tells Angela.
“Answer it,” she tells you. “We’ll try to trace it.”
“Hello?” you greet.
“I’m not seeing any money,” the voice chides.
You hear Mia crying in the background and bite your lip harshly. “Where is my daughter?” you ask.
“She’s fine. Won’t stop crying, but she needs you to get me my money, understand?”
Angela shakes her head and moves her finger in a circle so you’ll keep talking.
“I don’t have that kind of money,” you explain. “Why me?”
“Because he stole it.”
You glance at Tim as you ask, “He who?”
“Mia’s father! I lost half a million because of him. I knocked a hundred grand off but if I don’t see my investment returned, I’ll make a new one.”
“I can’t get that kind of money,” you say through your teeth. “What else can I do?”
“Find a way. You have twenty hours, so find it quickly.”
The line clicks before you drop your hand away from your face. A tear tracks over your cheek, and you don’t do anything to stop it.
“No location on the trace, but I have the internet number’s information,” Angela explains. “Tech might be able to do something with it.”
“Excuse me,” you mumble.
Tim watches you walk into the restroom. He rubs his hand across his face before Lucy pushes him toward you.
“Go,” Angela encourages him. “We’ll find Mia’s dad and go from there. She needs you, Timothy.”
Tim knocks on the bathroom door as he opens it. He says your name as he steps in, but he’s only met with muted crying and sniffles.
“I can’t do this,” you whimper.
“I’m sorry,” Tim says, stopping outside your stall. “I can’t take it away, but I’ll do everything I can to get her back.”
“It was… I know it sounds bad, but I don’t know anything. He was working with someone or something, and they lost the money, and then- then he lost everything else. I don’t even know what the money was for or where he went after the fallout. He may not have realized that what they were doing was wrong.”
“It’s not your job to know all of this,” Tim reminds you. “He did something wrong, and he lost the best people I’ve ever met.”
You sniff before you begin crying again, and Tim nudges the door open. He pulls you from your slouched position against the partial wall and into his arms. Running his hand over your hair, Tim grounds you and reminds you that you’re not alone, you’re cared about and loved.
“Wait,” you say against his chest. “Did he say half a million?”
“Yeah, but he dropped it to 400.”
“I remember hearing something about the biggest ‘donor’ and they called him… it was something about a shark, like great white or… maybe it was hammerhead?”
“Mako?” Tim asks.
“Yeah, that was it.”
“He's wanted for dozens of crimes. I need to go tell Angela, but…” Tim hesitates and pulls you into a tight hug.
You carry the duffel bag filled with seized money in both hands as you approach the darkened warehouse at the Port of Los Angeles. Tim, Angela, Nyla, Nolan, and Lucy are somewhere behind you, and a Metro team is waiting for their command. After you knock four times, the door slides open, and a man dressed in black steps out.
“Where’s Mia?” you ask.
“She’s close, ready to go with you,” he answers cryptically.
“Stall him,” Angela says in your earpiece. “We’ll find her.”
“Can you- can you tell me what he did?” you ask the man.
“You really don’t know, do you? You have no idea about how many people he robbed, how many lives he destroyed.”
“No, I don’t. All I know is that he left me and my daughter, and now you’re trying to ruin our lives.”
“Fool me once.”
“But I didn’t. I had nothing to do with losing your money.”
The man barks a laugh and tries to snatch the duffel bag from you, but you step back quickly.
“Not until I know my daughter is okay,” you snap.
“She’s waiting in a Corolla on the other side of the building, ready for you to drive her home,” he says. “Money, now.”
“I’ve got Mia,” Tim says in your ear. “Metro, move in.”
You sigh in relief just before a swarm of armed officers surround you and your daughter’s abductor. They pull him away from you just as Tim rounds the corner, your daughter safe in his arms.
“Mia!” you call, running toward them.
You crash into them, wrapping one arm around Mia and the other around Tim’s waist. Mia wraps her arm around your neck and shifts her weight toward you as Tim holds you close. She rambles against you until you wipe the tears from her face.
“Are you okay, baby?” you ask.
She nods, then reaches toward Tim. He takes her hand, and Mia lowers her head to your shoulder.
“Thank you,” you whisper to Tim, standing against his side. “I love you.”
“I love you,” he replies. “You too, Mia, and I meant what I said.”
You look at Tim with your brows raised, and he whispers, “I promised a trip to the toy store and her favorite diner for milkshakes.”
Mia nods against you as you ask, “Am I invited?”
“What do you think, Mia?” Tim asks. “Can Mom come?”
“Yeah,” she answers against you. “Love you.”
“I love you so much,” you tell her.
She mumbles something, then says, “Love you, Daddy.”
You look at Tim and smile as you raise your hand to his cheek. He looks like he might cry, but he has a much better story about how Mia made him cry today.
