Warren G featuring Nate Dogg - Regulate 1994
Warren G is an American rapper, record producer, and DJ known for his role in West Coast rap's 1990s ascent. A pioneer of G-funk, he attained mainstream success with the 1994 single "Regulate". He significantly helped Snoop Dogg's career during the latter's beginnings, also introducing him to Dr. Dre, who later signed Snoop Dogg. After the success of "Regulate", American singer and rapper Nate Dogg became a fixture in the West Coast hip hop genre, regularly working with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Xzibit in the 1990s; his deep vocals became sought after for hooks, and he would expand to work with a larger variety of artists in the 2000s. As a featured artist, Nate charted 16 times on the Billboard Hot 100, and in 2003 reached number one via 50 Cent's "21 Questions". Nate Dogg also was notably featured on Dr. Dre's "The Next Episode" and Eminem's "'Till I Collapse" (poll #239). In 2015, Warren G released Regulate… G Funk Era, Part II, an EP featuring archived recordings of Nate Dogg, who died in 2011.
"Regulate" was released in the spring of 1994 as the first single on the soundtrack to the film Above the Rim and later Warren G's debut album, Regulate… G Funk Era. The album debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 176,000 in its opening week. The single spent 18 weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, with three weeks at number 2, and earned a Grammy nomination and a MTV Movie Award nomination. In 2017, "Regulate", certified platinum in 1994, went multi-platinum, propelled by digital downloads.
It employs a four-bar sample of the rhythm of Michael McDonald's song "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)", and also samples "Sign of the Times" by Bob James and "Let Me Ride" by Dr. Dre. "Regulate" starts with a read introduction referencing dialogue from the 1988 film Young Guns.
"Regulate" received a total of 75,7% yes votes! Previous Warren G polls: #20 "Prince Igor".

bodyguard!Simon making a reappearance today gasssppp. As always 18+ but there's no smut or nothing in this it's just a cute little moment captured by the cameras <3
Stepping off of your platform, your makeup artists are all over you in an instant, while your manager is rattling off about something with your trainer and health manager, (you almost tripped during a part of the last set, and she's worried about the bruise forming on the knee you used to stabilize yourself on the wobbly stage) Ghost is standing nearby, watching them flock to you, his fixed gaze never moving from your face and the blankness in your eyes as you're rattled around like some type of shared toy between kids. He knows that by now you're fully dissociated and absent in your own mind, but he somehow always manages to bring you back.
Some lipstick is applied to your lips — restricting your movements further. A straw is shoved between them next, and you drink willingly, while another one of your makeup artists reapplies shimmer to your inner corners.
Your hair is fixed. A hand held fan is held up to you, tickling your cheeks with strands of your own hair.
Your dress is adjusted again, sending your waist side to side. They tighten it again, and your top is fastened all the way. Your last set had it unbuttoning a little bit.
You breathe. They disperce, and your health manager comes forward, placing is hands on your neck from behind. Another physical specialist kneels and checks your knee for any underlying conditions. You hear them rattle something like "further checkouts" to your manager, but you don't pay attention to it — because your Ghost approaches finally, ignoring the fact that your head is being turned that and this way, your muscles stretched.
"Remember wha' I tol' ya, lamb?"
You hum, signing that you did as your head is swished side to side, cracked slightly where it tenses. You know Ghost is upset with you because he's refusing to let your gaze go. Perhaps you went too far earlier jumping down the stage to meet with a fan near the barricade.
"No more prancing about the fences, ya hear?"
You show your agreement with another sign. You don't count on coming through with that false promise. He knows.
Your doctor pulls back, and your water bottle switches hands into Ghost's. The physical specialist lets your knee go, and you feel a tiny twinge of pain as his hands stop massaging the area. (Definitely a bruise.)
But you forget all about the pain as soon as Ghost pulls you by the scruff of your neck and slips the straw between your lips, keeping you pliant in his hold. Calm. Relaxed. Anxiety fades to a silent rumble behind you.
"Kyle and Johny will be stationed on each side wi' flashlights. Rememba' to stay focus'd."
You nod when you've had enough to drink, but he doesn't budge, forcing you to have more water.
"A'right," he lets you go with a heavy, resigned sigh when he thinks you've had enough, and then steps back a single step to let you breathe. His eyebrows are furrowed. You can see it even underneath the mask. He presses a hand to your waist, and squeezes. "Don' do somethin' I wouldn't agree to." He says, as always, and you grin a little at that, because there's nothing Ghost actually agrees to. But still, it's a nice thought — for him and for you. He knows that you're thinking of him all throughout the set, and you know he's looking out for you no matter what.
You accept your mic from a nearby staff, while another fixes your in ear. The countdown begins outside, on the stage, and you swallow nervously as the cameras for your documentary backstage follow your every blink and flinch. You give them a tiny wave — all the time you're given, before you're urged on by your manager.
You walk past Ghost as you're brought to the sides of the stage, hands grazing each other's. Your pinkies stay connected until you're too far out to reach him.
The music mellows down, the lights fire, and that is your cue.
You step out on the stage, forgetting everything, and for once, focusing on the music that blasts into your ears.

"I Keep Forgettin'"
I keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin', darlin'
Every time you're near
Every time I see you smile
Hear your "hello"
Saying you can only stay a while
Hey, I know that it's hard for you
To say the things that we both know are true
But tell me how come I
Keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin', baby
Everytime I hear
How you never want to live a lie
How it's gone too far
And you don't have to tell me why
Why you're gone and why the game is through
If this is what's real, if this is what's true
Tell me how come I
Keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore, baby
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear, yeah, yeah
I keep forgettin', babe
Don't say that, don't say that, don't say that
I know you're not mine anymore, anyway, anytime
Tell me how come I
Keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
(How come I)
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
I keep forgettin', baby
Every time you're near
Keep forgettin' we're not in love anymore
(Every time you're near)
I keep forgettin' things will never be the same again
(Hey, baby)
I keep forgettin' how you made that so clear
(Every time you're near)
I keep forgettin'
