What if I told you I'm back? The hospital was a drag

(Australian Grand Prix, 2024)

"What a performance!"

"What a comeback!"

"A Ferrari 1-2, headed by Carlos Sainz who wins the Australian Grand Prix!!!"

Y/n couldn't believe it. Standing next to Carlos' dad and cousin, she could feel the two pull her in for a hug. It was when she felt his dad wipe a tear from her eye that she realized she was crying. "I'm so proud of him," said Carlos Sainz Sr. 

She could see that very clearly. It was evident from the look on his face that he was proud of Carlos, and frankly, it was a relief to see that. The past few weeks have not been the best for all of them, especially Carlos, Y/n and his father.

The day they got to know about his surgery, they all dropped everything they were doing to be there with Carlos as he got his appendix removed. 

The road to recovery had been tough. There were several speculations going on about Carlos not being signed again by Ferrari, so he did everything in his power to prove to everyone, especially the team, that he deserved the seat more than anyone. But as he got out of his surgery, the only thing he could think about was all the criticism he had received.

Y/n spent every second with him during his road to recovery. 

"You do know this isn't the end, right?" she had questioned Carlos the day before the Australian Grand Prix.

"Maybe, but it doesn't feel like that," Carlos said as he turned to face her on the couch.

"Need I remind you that you're the same Carlos Sainz who broke Max's streak last year after winning the Singapore Grand Prix," Y/n said with a proud smile. 

"And one of the 3 people who won a Grand Prix last year," she continued.

Carlos looked at her with a smile. "Yes," he said.

"Exactly, so why are you so worried about proving all the haters wrong? You have nothing to prove to anyone. So when you're out there in that car, the only thing you better be worrying about is not hurting yourself," Y/n said before she added, "because if you get hurt while driving, I swear to god the haters will be the least of your worries," she said as she slowly caressed his check.

"Yes, mi amor," Carlos said before kissing the palm of her hand that was caressing his cheek.

Standing with his family Y/n waited for Carlos to get out of his car. As soon as he got close to them, Y/n pulled Carlos in for a hug. "I'm so proud of you, Carlos; I can't describe just how proud of you I am," Y/n said, pulling him in closer.

"I can tell Mi querida, you're crushing me a little," Carlos said as he laughed, looking down at Y/n.

Wiping away the tears from her cheek, Carlos pulled her in for a kiss. "Don't you have a trophy to get?" Y/n questioned breaking the kiss.

"I do," Carlos replied before pulling her back in.

Standing on top of the podium, Carlos looked at his father and cousin, looking back at him with a proud look on their faces. He then looked at his girlfriend standing next to them, who was looking back at him as if he were the only person standing there, winking at her, Carlos stood straight for the national anthem. 

There was one thing clear now: no matter what happened, if he stayed in Ferrari or not, he would always have Y/n by his side, and that's what mattered at the end of the day for him.

(Hungarian Grand Prix, 2024)

Oscar knows that he should be happy. He did it. He finally won his first ever Grand Prix. But he was feeling anything but happy.

The situation that led to this win made him feel uneasy. The messed-up strategy and the swap, all made Oscar feel like he didn't deserve to celebrate this win. To make things worse, none of his loved ones were there to witness this. His mom and sisters were back in Australia, Mark was travelling, and the person he wanted the most to be there, his girlfriend, was back home, probably watching the race in her 'I love Oscar' t-shirt that she got as a joke when he first signed for McLaren.

Driving to park at the spot for the Grand Prix winner, Oscar thought about what the news outlets have been saying about him. 'Oscar Piastri to Become the Next Face of F1' 'Future All-Time King of F1', Oscar let out a bitter laugh, remembering that. What is the point of getting better and better at every race if the first race you win, the one that you're going to remember forever, happens like how it did? 

Before he could even get out of his car, Oscar was congratulated by Lando. He could sense the tension between then. Oscar knows it's not their fault that there is this tension lingering between the two, but there was nothing that either of them could do about it. 

Smiling, he softly said, "Thanks, mate," before he got out of the car and towards the team. 

After being congratulated by the team, Oscar was making his way towards the cooldown room when he felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw his girlfriend standing in front of him, and just as he had thought, in her 'I love Oscar' t-shirt. 

"What are you doing here?" Oscar said before he practically threw himself at her.

Laughing, Y/n hugged him back while replying, "I wanted to surprise you, but you surprised me instead," Y/n said as she pulled away.

"I can't believe you won!!!," Y/n said as she pulled him in for a kiss.

"Ya, neither can I," Oscar said.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you excited?" Y/n asked. She knew why he was like this. She knew very well what was going on inside Oscar's head.

"Nothing; it's just that this doesn't feel right," Oscar said. 

He continued, "Like winning your first Grand Prix is supposed to be a joyful occasion, but I can't help but feel like this win was given to me."

Y/n gently placed both her hands on Oscar's face, making him look at her, "Oscar Jack Piastri, don't tell me you're doubting your skills, definitely not after the way you raced today. You were absolutely amazing out there, and nothing can change that," she said.

"You deserve this win more than anything. I don't care what anyone says, but this trophy has your name written all over it. So you better go up there and celebrate like you believe in this win as much as I believe in it," Y/n said.

Oscar looked back at her, wondering what good he had done in his past life to have someone like Y/n in his life. 

"You hear me?" Y/n questioned, looking at him with so much determination that Oscar couldn't help but smile back at here after nodding his head.

"Yes, ma'am," he said.

"Good! Now quickly go; I have to facetime Nicole so she can see the celebration as well," Y/n said, giving Oscar a final kiss before making her way to get a better spot to see the entire celebration.

Covered in confetti and champaign, Oscar smiled as he saw Y/n and his mom on FaceTime, watching the entire celebration.

Oscar doesn't know if feeling like he didn't deserve this first win will be something he remembers 20 years down the line, but he sure knows that he will remember Y/n surprising him when he needed her the most.

Winning the Monaco Grand Prix almost felt impossible to Charles. Years of bad decisions had made him lose faith in himself.

Charles refused to believe in the Monaco curse. Because how can the place he loves the most, the place where he was born and raised, the place he was desperate to make proud, actually be against him winning?

He refused to believe in the Monaco curse. Because what if it is actually true? What if, no matter what he did, he could never win his home race? Charles refused to think about this, and this is what made him want this win even more desperately.

His entire family was there watching him, waiting to see him win. His brothers and their girlfriends were all at the edge of their seats as the last lap of the race began.

His girlfriend, however, remained seated. Y/n remained glued to the seat. She refused to move from her spot, fearing she might miss something if she moved even the slightest.

4 more corners to do. 3 more corners. 2 more corners. 1 more…

The entire area erupted into cheers. Lorenzo and Charlotte were hugging each other in disbelief of what they had just witnessed.

All the noises had faded for Y/n. All she could see was Charles; all she could think about was Charles. She could not express in words what she was feeling. Wiping away a tear that had rolled down her face, she was engulfed in a hug by Enzo and Charlotte.

Charles was not afraid to show his excitement as soon as he got out of the car. Screaming out of pure joy, he could not have felt more alive than he did right now.

Without removing his helmet or waiting for the photographers to capture him in the iconic number 1 position, Charles ran. It was as if his feet had a mind of their own.

Charles ran till he reached the area where his team was waiting for him. His eyes frantically searched the sea of red, trying to find the pair of eyes he desperately needed to see.

Suddenly his brother Arthur and a few of the team members parted to reveal a teary-eyed Y/n standing with the team.

Charles ran straight into her arms.

No words were exchanged for a few minutes. It was as if they did not need words to convey what they wanted to say.

Finally Y/n broke the silence, "You did it, Mon bébé."

"I did," Charles said, pulling back to look at her.

"You broke the Monaco Curse," Y/n said laughing, knowing that there was nothing anyone could say to Charles now.

"I did," Charles replied, still holding onto Y/n.

"Are you going to say anything besides 'I did' or is that all you know now?" Arthur chimed in after hearing his brother's exchange with his girlfriend.

Y/n laughed looking at Arthur before turning towards Charles, waiting for him to answer his brother's question.

"Marry me," Charles finally said.

Both Y/n and Arthur were shocked; none of them were expecting this. Arthur thought that his brother was going to follow the plan he, Enzo, and Charles had come up with for him to propose to Y/n. What he did not expect was for this brother to do it today.

Y/n, on the other hand, had not seen this coming. It was now her turn to remain silent for a few minutes. And these few minutes felt like hell for Charles.

"Yes," she finally said.

"What?" Charles asked.

"Yes! I said yes, I will marry you, Charlie," she said as she kissed Charles' helmet.

"SHE SAID YES," Arthur yelled to let everyone there know that his brother had not only won the Monaco Grand Prix but also got the girl of his dreams.

the champagne had barely dried on the podium before the news hit y/n like a rogue tire. her boyfriend, carlos, ecstatic from his surprise win, was pulling her into a victory hug when charles, had his face pale and eyes downcast. the phone started buzzing and ferrari's announcement about lewis hamilton moving into ferrari in 2025. y/n's eyes grew wide and carlos stiffened knowingly.

the room seemed to lose all sound. y/n froze, the echo of the murmurs words bouncing around her skull. carlos, oblivious, released her from the hug, a triumphant grin splitting his face. "y/n amore please breathe."

"i'm so sorry carlos, im so-," charles mumbled, avoiding y/n's gaze.

a low growl escaped y/n's throat. her vision narrowed, tuning out the congratulations and backslaps raining on carlos. "fuck off. no, fuck off. what the actual fuck does ferrari want? he fucking won char."

charles flinched. "it's not about that, y/n. it's..."

"it's about what?" y/n's voice rose, each word laced with a tremor that threatened to erupt. "is it about you needing another yes-man, charles? someone who won't challenge you?"

charles' head snapped up, hurt flickering in his blue eyes. "that's not fair. you know i respect carlos!"

"respect?" y/n's voice broke. tears welled up, blurring her vision. "respect doesn't put food on the table, charles! it doesn't secure a driver's future!"

"they have a plan, y/n!" charles pleaded, frustration creeping into his tone. "they..."

"their plan is a joke!" y/n screamed. "at carlos' expense!"

the room fell silent. everyone, mechanics, team personnel, even the bubbly podium girls stared at the leclerc siblings, their joyous celebration replaced by a chilling silence.

carlos, his face crumpling, finally stepped between them. "y/n, honey..."

"don't you 'honey' me, carlos!" y/n snapped, tears now streaming down her face. "this is your dream, your life! and they're throwing it away!"

"y/n, please..." charles choked out, his own voice cracking. "this isn't how this is supposed to go."

"how is it supposed to go, charles?" y/n's voice hitched on a sob. "tell me! how is it supposed to feel when they cast your teammate aside like yesterday's trash?"

charles flinched visibly. tears welled in his own eyes, mirroring y/n's. "i... i don't know."

silence descended again, heavier than before. the weight of their argument, of the broken dream, suffocated them both.

y/n, chest heaving with unshed sobs, turned and stormed out of the room. carlos, his own victory celebration forgotten, chased after her. charles stood frozen, a single tear tracing a path down his cheek. he felt utterly alone, despite being surrounded by people.

later that night, y/n sat on the edge of their hotel bed, staring out the window. carlos sat beside her, his arm draped around her shoulders, a silent comfort in the storm. y/n leaned into his touch, the warmth a small solace in the cold reality.

"i'm so sorry, princess," carlos murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "i never meant..."

"it's not your fault," y/n interrupted, wiping away a stray tear. "it's theirs. it's ferrari's."

they sat in silence for a while, the only sound the city lights humming outside. finally, y/n spoke, her voice quiet but determined. "we'll figure something out, carlos. we always do."

carlos squeezed her hand. "i know we will. but about charles..."

y/n sighed, the anger from before replaced by a dull ache. "i just... i don't know what to say to him."

"he's your brother, y/n," carlos said gently. "he probably feels awful."

y/n knew he was right. charles had never been good with emotions, especially his own. but the image of his tear-filled face haunted her.

the next morning, y/n found charles in the team lounge, hunched over a coffee, a defeated air clinging to him. she walked over and took a deep breath.

"can we talk?" she asked, her voice soft.

charles looked up, startled. his eyes were red-rimmed and puffy. he nodded curtly.

y/n sat down across from him. "look," she started, "what i said last night... it was out of line," y/n finished, her voice choked with emotion. "i was angry, for you, for us. but it doesn't mean i don't understand your position."

charles stared into his coffee, his jaw clenched. "i just... i don't want to hurt you, y/n. or carlos."

"i know," y/n said, reaching across the table to place a hand on his. "we'll figure this out. together, like always."

a flicker of warmth appeared in charles' eyes. he squeezed her hand briefly before withdrawing it.

"speaking of figuring things out," a voice broke the tension. max verstappen, arms crossed, stood by the table, a hint of amusement dancing in his steely blue eyes.

y/n's head snapped up, surprised. max, known for his bluntness, rarely ventured into such emotional team territory.

"y/n and i were just having a chat," charles muttered, avoiding eye contact.

max's amusement widened into a smirk. "actually, charles, your teammate and i were just having a very interesting conversation." he looked at y/n, his smirk softening slightly. "let's just say your boyfriend might have a new home soon."

y/n's eyes widened. "what do you mean?"

max's eyes twinkled. "let's say red bull is always looking for exceptional talent," he said, glancing at carlos. "and sometimes, opportunities knock when you least expect them."

the following days were a whirlwind. news of carlos' potential move to red bull sent shockwaves through the paddock. initially, ferrari put up a fight, but when details of red bull's significant offer leaked, they conceded defeat.

the official announcement came a week later. a joint press conference displayed a jubilant carlos in red bull colours, flanked by christian horner and helmut marko. cameras flashed, reporters shouted questions, and a sense of bittersweet joy filled the air.

y/n, watching from a discreet corner, felt a knot loosen in her stomach. while she'd miss carlos being by charles' side on the track, the competitive fire back in his eyes was a sight to behold. he deserved this chance.

y/n laughed, feeling the tension dissipate. it wouldn't be easy, but they'd adjust, navigate the new dynamic. one thing was certain: the leclerc siblings were a team, and they'd face the future, victories and defeats, together.

the press conference lights dimmed, the final question answered. carlos hopped off the stage, a wide grin splitting his face. he scanned the room, his eyes landing on y/n standing by the side door.

a wave of relief washed over him, erasing the nervous butterflies that had been fluttering all morning. he weaved through the crowd, his steps light and eager.

carlos feigned a gasp, placing a hand over his heart dramatically. "you wound me! how could you forget the pre-race good luck kisses?"

y/n giggled, leaning in to pepper his cheek with kisses. "alright, alright, you win. you're the best boyfriend a driver could ask for."

carlos beamed, his heart swelling with love. "and you're the best cheerleader a driver could ask for." he held her gaze for a moment, the seriousness in his eyes a stark contrast to his playful demeanor moments ago. "thank you, y/n. for everything."

Esteban Ocon - speaking of working class gotta round out my trio of drivers with humble origins with the one who worked his way up on the sacrifice and belief of his family. Ocon is a working class hero and I will be an Estie Bestie perpetually unless he fucks up Ollie. This is his last chance to not lash out at a teammate because he'll clearly have the position of seniority at Haas next year so no reasons to fight Ollie Bear. If he hurts Ollie I may have to give him up but it will be painful and I will cry about it.

Oscar Piastri - I love pastries and Oscar is no exception. He's absolutely showing all the potential to be a legend of his generation. He's the second coming of Kimi Raikkonen and I'm here for it. Also much like Carlos and George he has absolutely impeccable gentleman vibes and because he's Aussie it comes across even a little more down to earth, like if he cycled past while you were having a flat tire or something he'd stop and try to help

Ollie Bearman - yes I know technically he isn't on the grid but like I lost Logan this week so let me have this. He's a sweet wholesome little nugget who I would die for. Just a little floof. And he's a promising little floof too!

Charles Leclerc - the more I watch this sport the more I realize that the Leclerc haters are insane when they say he's only popular because he's attractive and drives a Ferrari. I've encountered a tiktok doing their top 5 drivers of 2022 and now i want to do it so here it goes:

Max Verstappen. No explanation needed, my boy dominated this year, made like 3 mistakes in 22 races and won by a mile even spining.

The rest of the list may be controversial so idk it's my opinion, not facts, you can have your own and that's great.

2. Lando Norris. I had Leclerc here but i changed it because this kid has carried the entire team on his own to a 4th position very close to apline. I love Ricciardo but this year he wasn't there and Lando has been consistent all year doing very good races and even getting the only podium for a team outside of the top 3 this year. So, yeah, second best.

3. Fernando Alonso Díaz. I had to. My man is 41 years old with a tractor that broke 6 times and still was competing against Norris for being the best of the race. He got a front line starting in Canada.... his own mecanics couldn't believe it. I love this man so i can't be objective and that's why he's third.

4. Charles Leclerc. As i said i had him P2 but i lowered him because he's made too many mistakes... yeah, ferrari is ferrari and they ruin everything from car to strategy but he has made mistakes that have cost him wins without strategi being a factor... just look at Paul Ricard. I'm sorry but he has to fix this mistakes if he wants to win a championship because i'm sure he can do it if ferrari gives him a good enough car.

5. George Russel. It's mister consistency. I don't now what to say, he's been great, he's shown he can adapt pretty quickly to a new car and he has been there to take every oportunity he could get. Although i'm still angry about his torpedo side showing and him making fun on the radio of drivers from little teams (aka Mick). But i can forget it because my last memory of him is him winning interlagos and crying and then not getting any atention because everyone colapsed and decided to fight.

Honorable mentions to Carlitos Sainz whose second half was great but i still think he hasn't got the edge to get to Leclerc's level. Also I have to mention Hamilton whose second half was better than george's but i didn't put him higher because i was a little disapointed with his attitude. I mean, he's used to winning and having the best or one of the best cars and now that he didn't have it i felt like he didn't care until the car started being competitive again and then he started being more like the hamilton we knew and beating Russel.

And that's it, a good season, a boring season. I hope we see more of a title fight next year but idk i will watch and enjoy the same because i love the sport with the cars that go very fast and turn.

I'm here to rant about that why THIS Sainz win is undeserved. Have never expected things turning this way.

Did not only he show some impressing things (thanks god he could won the restart), but also he didn't show ANYTHING during the race. People said about Leclerc crying about team orders (when he just didn't want to mess the team with passing Carlos without asking permission), but I saw 0 mentions of Carlos crying "I'm under pressure", "If Charles gives me DRS" or "Ham and Per will eat me if I try to defend". Oh really?

But OK, lets leave that race and talks about podiums:

2021:

Monaco: Leclerc out from pole, and Bottas screwed by the wheel of the car. Sainz on podium

Hungary: Leclerc bombed by Stroll, Bottas, Leclerc, Perez - out, Verstappen - damaged. Vettel disqualified from P2. Sainz on podium when he crashed in the quali.

Sochi - Norris fucked up, Ferrari couldn't do double pit - Leclerc's race fucked up (wow they started back then) - Sainz on podium (this race was actually great from Carlos)

Abu-Dhabi: Perez out, Sainz on podium.

2022:

Bahrain: Max and Peres out due to reliability, But Carlos had a good race end on podium

Saudi: Perez race fucked, Carlos on podium

Monaco: Charles was fucked, Verstappen had a bad weekend, Carlos on podium

Canada: Perez and Leclerc not in the race for podium, first (well maybe second in we count Sochi) real fight on track and he couldn't overtake Max.

Am I inventing or it seem like Carlos rn isn't ready to fight wheel-to-wheel?

Hiya! sorry that it took me so long to reply but this deserved a proper answer!

Yeah, the "crying" only matters when it's the faster one doing it. Because "if you are so much faster just overtake" as if there's not loads of other things to keep in mind!

He has definitely been benefitting a lot from things going wrong for others. For last year I think that that is ok overall because that car was meh.

BUT hungary still annoys me because people will talk about how Charles fucked it himself with the crash in Monaco as if the team couldn't have changed the driveshaft without a penalty had they just checked it. No other driver crashed in Qualifying and then can't start. and in Hungary Carlos bins it and they do fix his car and then Charles got screwed as well. I hate all of these events.

And Sochi also annoys me because Charles was fucked because he was TOO FAST. Man starts at the back with the engine pen and is so fast that he catches is teammate who started P2 and then actually overtakes him. But then can't pit because when they decided to pit Carlos was still in front. And then he gambles completely. But like he was so fast he caught his team mate that started P2 while he started pretty much last. Honestly had Charles finished ahead of Carlos he might not have survived that.

2022

Bahrain, he was on for third and I think that was fine but P2 was gifted.

Saudi, yeah. Also I still can't believe that he didn't manage to make up some time while the leading two were playing DRS chicken. like he didn't even make a dent into the gap and those two were slowing down more than they normally would've.

Monaco, if I speak

Canada I would say was his best race so far. He did benefit from both Charles and Perez not being there but he did somewhat manage to keep pace with Max. But yeah idk under how much presser Max felt he was because it felt like Carlos always wanted to just get a bit closer before trying anything.

TBH I have zero knowledge of Carlos wheel to wheel skills. I just never really paid that much attention to him. But he is definitely a step below the top. Even Perez is better defensively and has shown more aggression lately. Carlos did squeeze Max on the restart in Silverston but I feel like he only did it because he had a preview and knew what was going to happen.

I also feel like maybe he enjoys it less than Charles and let's add Max because those two love it. But maybe I am being mean but I just have never heard him say he really enjoyed a proper battle. Has he even been in a proper battle?

But yeah that's definitely an area where he can make a step up.

Bottas and Stroll... wtf have you done? I love you but this was a messsss costing Leclerc and Norris’s DNFs

Hamilton looked really tired at the podium and i got worried he had to put so much effort to this race because of that start... poor baby earned that 3rd place could have gotten to 1st if Alonso wasnt there but it is exciting to see real battles and real defense! Good job Fernando protecting baby Ocon and Max

Hamilton, Verstappen and Leclerc all give the crowd something to enjoy with some fancy dougnuts. Hamilton manages to park in the number one spot, while Verstappen and Leclerc leave their cars on the straight and just walk back down the grid.

There’s only been one car in it, so fitting that there is only car in the right spot on track at the end.

Lee Robinson:One more season at Mercedes, get the record then off to Ferrari…

D.A.N:I think Hamilton may eclipse Schumacher’s win record but to me Schumacher was the better driver. There were less races per season in Schumacher’s time and also he managed to be on the podium 100% during one of his seasons. Hamilton is ace but Schumacher is still the god!
