i love inside jokes. i love that they are a reminder of all the memories and experiences you share with the people you love. i love the confused stares of the people wondering how that led to all people around them laughing hysterically. i love explaining the events that led up to that joke to new people in the group and realizing it takes 5 minutes. i love realizing that a new inside joke has just been born. i love remembering old inside jokes. and i love that i can say 'algae' and everyone in my vicinity will start swaying like seeweed in a strong current.

Designs for an Apocalypse AU I dusted off recently. Maybe I'll post the chapters I have if people are interested 🤭🤭

The AU was planned to be more of a "natural disaster" apocalypse rather than just a usual zombie apocalypse! There would still be diseased people but it'd be due to something like radiation and natural selection instead of a fungal infection or spores. There'd probably be some cannibals too. So think more TLOU territory minus the cliché zombie tropes and more body/psychological horror with some moral conflicts thrown in because I'm a sucker for People Losing Their Humanity When They Actually Don't Want To.

i feel like we need to collectively take more time to examine halsin's relationship with thaniel as like friend, guardian, and maybe father figure. because there's so much there to explore! especially for halsin's development as a character as knowing thaniel since he was a child and then coming to understand that thaniel can't just be his friend as he matures and thaniel remains the boy he always has been.

there are so many dynamics to explore! could it be how aragorn and boromir saw the hobbits? could it be how din djarin sees grogu? OR, my interpretation, could we see how it was between itachi and sasuke? with itachi knowing far more than sasuke and doing what he can to protect his innocence

anyway that's all to say have this current out take i was sketching out but haven't yet found a home for

Why can’t I stay with you?” As Halsin gets to the gate, the path that Thaniel has never set foot upon and is warded away from by the Grove’s druids—their explanation being that the road is dangerous for children like him and that he must remain lest he wander and become lost in the Oak Father’s domain—Halsin stops and turns to Thaniel. He descends and takes to a knee upon the ground. His face then melts into a smile. “I will not be gone for long, Thaniel. This is only a short bout beyond the Grove. I’ll be back before you miss me.” He sets a hand on Thaniel’s head and ruffles his hair with a wink. “But I want to go with you!” Thaniel says. “Aren’t I big enough?” Halsin’s grin falters before he smooths out Thaniel’s hair and slides his hand down to cup Thaniel’s face. “Not just yet. You will hardly notice my absence!” “But—” Halsin then places the tips of two fingers against Thaniel’s forehead, giving him a little thump. Thaniel grumbles. “Hmp.”

I was allowed to post silly/interesting And make Them Bloom facts on Tumblr and will henceforth use it for the greater good.

Anyway I want to talk about Yakamoz members' levels of English because there's some interesting deviations from canon and also I'm an English major, so enjoy.

Shiraishi An: around C1-C2 levels, fluent, much better than in canon. Taiga encountered a huge issue with language barrier when he first moved to America (although he wasn't half bad himself), and understood immediately that An would need English to survive in musical world going forward, because he definitely had plans for her to go beyond Japan. So he taught her a bit and basically made it so he would only talk to her in English & make her talk with him in English as well. An was initially frustrated, but as he was coming from the place of care, and it was kind of an interesting experience, she got interested in English and went out of her way to learn it even more by herself, at times taking it almost as seriously as she did singing.

She also met a lot of English-speaking people during her opera shenanigans, watched a lot of foreign productions and masterclasses and such. An was kinda interested to learn English at school too but soon got very bored with drills and grammar and in general felt like she's too ahead of the class to enjoy it. She still gets good grades in it though!

She's very good at keeping conversations, knows a lot of idioms and slang terms, but has a considerable accent since she never bothered with correct pronunciation and wouldn't know a grammar rule if it bit her in the face. Her writing is also lacking.

Additionally, An knows a bit (very little!) of German and Italian, because these languages has a lot of operas written in them.

Asahina Mafuyu: around C1-C2 levels, fluent, about the same/better than in canon. She is in very similar situation to An and is learning English because of Suzune's (Mafumom) concerns that she will need it in the future. Which, to be fair, she probably will! She started learning it seriously quite a bit earlier though, around the first year of junior high.

She's about as good at is as she is in canon, and is able to write essays and even poetry quite well. Her accent is also not as noticeable as An's; however, because of her often overthinking her correctness of speech, she struggles with keeping a casual conversation and sounds a bit "like a textbook". She's also not as familiar with slang terms and cultural context as An is.

She and An are known to exchange brief talks in English during practise or breaks, usually initiated by An. Although Touya could probably understand what they're saying, he prefers not to.

Aoyagi Touya: B2-C1 levels, about the same/slightly worse than in canon. Touya's primary source for English knowledge is school, and while he succeeds in it quite brilliantly, he never goes out of his way to learn more of it and couldn't be bothered to. Like Mafuyu, his speech is very proper and refined, and sounds very official. Could probably keep up with a business conversation, and he sometimes reads English books as a hobby, but not much else. He has very little practice with spoken English.

Tsukasa Tenma: A2-B1 levels, worse than in canon. Although canon Tsukasa's English is already... Debatable, Yakamoz!Tsukasa is considerably worse in it because he was never as interested in learning it. He only was invested in musicals briefly, soon focusing on his piano, and haven't watched much, if any, English media/musicals since, which hasn't helped. He keeps up with English at school and is okay-ish at it, on a normal level for a teen his age. That's about it, thought.

Kusanagi Nene: A2-B1 levels, about the same as in canon. Nene still spends a lot of her free time gaming, including online games, and has learned some English from chats with other players and watching reviews and playthroughs. She also keeps in touch with western musical scene, but it isn't much, and she's self-conscious when using English anyway.

Yoisaki Kanade: A1-A2 levels, about the same/worse than in canon. Although Kanade is distantly aware she'll probably need it if she wants to further her career, she doesn't have the time or energy to study English, and dislikes the idea of planning that far ahead anyway. She relies on Mafuyu when she encounters something she needs help with, and it has worked out for her so far.

16. At what point in the process do you come up with titles?

I don't like leaving my fics untitled, so usually right at the start! Sometimes I come up with dumb ones and then change them later, or sometimes I come up with dumb ones with the intent to change them later, and then they stick. Especially for chapter titles. (like 'dat ass')

17. What's something you learned while doing research for a fic?

Mmmmmmm honestly it's been so long since I've written a fic I had to do ACTUAL research for. Like even when I was writing for House MD I just stole stuff from episodes or avoided medicine all together lol.

I guess for The Post Break-Up Box of Shame I did some research on carnivorous plants for Crowley! He doesn't have any in the show but I felt like it fit. I just gave him a pitcher plant, but I learned about mexican butterwort, which are basically living flypaper since they have sticky leaves they use to catch insects. Apparently they're very good for getting gnats and fruit flies, and I reaaalllyy want one now. Also sundews/drosera plants are really cool and pretty and I think Crowley would have those too.

Fearne had, in true Fearne fashion, wrapped herself like a personal pashmina around Dorian, which left Orym to curl into his chest.

They had slept this way dozens of times before. Fearne’s blackened fingers wrapped tightly around his forearm as she snored loudly into Dorian’s ear. Orym’s head rested on Dorian’s bicep, his arms folded together between them, and his bare feet were gingerly resting upon Dorian’s thighs just above the knees, as Dorian had coiled enough to let Fearne’s fuzzy leg stretch over his hip. They were exhausted, and this was familiar, and he should’ve been fast asleep.

But Orym’s mind buzzed.

Fearne had always been a strong source of heat, but now she was a furnace, and even without covers it was too warm. But Fearne was not the reason why Orym’s skin burned where it met Dorian’s.

He was a fucking grown man. He was fully capable of admitting that.

Admitting it didn’t change it.

Neither did it change his awareness that Dorian had been too still for the past hour, his breath too precise and measured to be natural as it fell upon Orym’s hair. Orym was not going to presume that the cause of this was the same thing afflicting him; there were plenty of other reasons Dorian would be lying awake tonight.

“My family will find your brother,” he murmured finally, and Dorian’s breath wavered for just an instant before he regained his composure and returned to his measured, singer’s breathing. It was so slight that no one else could’ve noticed it, but Orym noticed. “You said there’s a body— the Tempest can bring him back, or Fearne, honestly—“

“I know,” Dorian answered, and this too was so faint that no one but Orym could’ve heard. “I know,” he said again, as though this one was only to appease himself.

“Do you think… do you think any of Opal is still in there?”

“I don’t know. I could barely tell what was in there—“ he cut himself off. “I couldn’t even help my brother. I think Fy’ra Rai might’ve… she must’ve seen something. I hope so,” he added, inhaling, trying to capture an airy tone that he didn’t fully manage. “The Spider Queen doesn’t deserve her. She doesn’t deserve anything.”

Orym had nothing to say to this. He hadn’t cared what the gods did or didn’t deserve in weeks, but now he could see the vein of fury that sharpened Dorian’s edges. It didn’t frighten him the way it had frightened him months ago, when things had been simpler, when there was not a war to be fought. It simply saddened him. “I’m so sorry about Opal,” he said, after the silence had lingered. “But I’m,” he breathed out a single dark laugh at himself, his selfishness, “I’m real glad it wasn’t you.”

Dorian’s laugh matched his own. “I suppose that is a silver lining.”

“I’m so glad you’re here,” Orym admitted. It was easier to keep his voice from cracking at a whisper. “I’ve thought about seeing you again so many times— I wish the circumstances were better—“

“I’m here,” Dorian said, for the second time today. “The circumstances tried very hard to make even that impossible, but— I’m here.”

Orym pulled his arm gently out of Fearne’s grasp and raised his hand to Dorian’s cheek. It was too dark to see the tinge of lavender against his skin, but Orym could feel the warmth bloom beneath his fingers. He still couldn’t bring himself to attribute his friend’s insomnia to anything so self-serving as his own, but perhaps it was one factor.

He pulled his hand back. Was there a flash of disappointment in Dorian’s eyes? He couldn’t tell in the dark. But he brushed his fingers together, drawing upon the wellspring of life within the ground beneath this hastily-erected encampment. The Hellcatch looked like a barren wasteland to most, but that life was still present even here.

Perhaps not now, but after a rainy season, the valley would bloom with wildflowers. The seeds waited in the earth for their time to sprout. Life went on, even in the darkest of places.

He produced a small stalk of life from his hands, and held out the tiny bundle of forget-me-nots to Dorian.

He should’ve said that they were for Cyrus, to remember him by. He wanted to say that they were for Dorian himself, that a day hadn’t gone by that he hadn’t thought of him. He didn’t speak at all as Dorian’s hand wrapped around Orym’s, pinching the stem beneath his fingers but not letting go.

“Orym,” Dorian breathed, looking from the flowers to his face. Then a strange expression came over his face, a wrinkle of consternation as he stared into the middle distance. “Fearne, are you braiding my hair?”

Orym lifted his head an inch to peer past Dorian’s ear. He had noticed that the snoring had stopped, but he’d been too caught up in the conversation to process it. Fearne’s wide eyes stared back with perfect innocence, her hands indeed weaving Dorian’s hair into a loose braid.

“Just pretend I’m not here,” she whispered quickly. “I’m totally not here.”

When Orym dropped his head back to Dorian’s arm, he was met with a crooked smile. It was not meant to be disarming, but it disarmed him anyway.

“Just like old times, eh?” he said, but his hand was still around Orym’s.

Carefully, Orym moved to tuck the flower behind Dorian’s ear, bringing both of their hands with him, and then laced their fingers together instead. “No,” he said, and tucked his head so that his brow rested against Dorian’s chin, and pressed their entwined hands to his lips. “But I think that’s okay.”

i know i talk about dani and illyana fucking on here and i still believe in it but also i feel like a lot of marvel writers (especially people who write illyana) have really dropped the ball when it comes to her and dani's actual canonical friendship. like obviously in the source material it's confirmed that illyana trusts dani more than kitty (i'm going to make some katyana shippers mad with this....)

but along with that dani has always been, well, the least afraid of illyana. out of all the new mutants, she's always been the one who knows the most about illyana, about her powers, and the one who was always willing to give illyana the benefit of the doubt.

and dani has always been protective over all the new mutants but i find it both really sweet and a little sad the way that illyana latches on to dani's protectiveness. she truly does care and trust her deeply, even when they haven't seen each other in years.

like this feels like such a small, insignificant detail, remembering that dani always wore a red bandana, but it feels so important because it shows that illyana cares. i mean of course she cares, but to remember a detail like that, even after years, it's significant. of course, I also can't forget to mention this scene, too, from the newest Magik ongoing.

idk i just feel like if you're being haunted by the guilt of all the people you care about i think that one of those people being dani is significant. i just think these two have a really underappreciated dynamic and i need more people to care about them as friends because im all alone here on the dani & illyana bandwagon okay-

my favourite binggeyuan dynamic is when post PIDW binghe is so fucking depressed but slowly gains a little bit more light the more time he spends with shen yuan in the modern world. Cue in clingy, soft spoken, but still feral Bingge with a sprinkle of abandonment issues.

and here comes shen yuan, the 1# comphet, who still has a kind but annoying heart, stubborn yet gentle, and so very very excited that he gets the protagonist as his roommate!!

he'll come to find binghe's flaws and make the former demon emperor get some much needed therapy and give him some much needed COMPLETELY PLATONIC affection!!
