Documentaries of animals are great for coming up with alien stuff, at least for me because most of the time I never really think about why an animal looks/acts like that or how an animal does what it does

Tsudilo Geckos of the Kalahari Desert have adhesive pads to grip rocks with, which I’m guessing most geckos have now, and tbh I never really thought about how geckos and lizards and stuff could do that, I just accepted that they could

But! Now that I’m aware, it’s a fun detail to think about with any alien species that might be reptilian, if you ever shook their hand, you might be ready for the scaliness, but their hands might also be sticky!

Also, Kalahari’s ostriches will have scarlet shins if they have high amounts of testosterone, so it’d be an interesting detail to add of an alien species having a body part that’s a different color/shade than the rest of them and why it looks different

“Oh c’mon Joan I’ve been looking for a promotion for weeks and I know my way around San Diego, my auntie took me everywhere and I-“

Your boss put her hand over your mouth “Shush child” she said, her British accent thick “If you had let me finish my sentence I was going to tell you that you’re coming with me to film a short documentary”

Your eyes lit up “Really? Like you’re not fucking with me?” you ask with a smile and your boss nodded with a smile “We know you’ve been stepping up and you deserve it”

You smiled brightly “Thank you so much!”.

“Meet me at five in the morning for the plane ride” She called out as you started walking away and you shot her a thumbs-up.

When you got home to your apartment in Portland, where you had recently moved with your boss who got a better offer and took you with her you started packing, asking your neighbour to look after your cat muffin.

You only knew little about your neighbour, you knew she played soccer professionally and you knew she was Canadian, she’d had some more friends over recently, and now you were scared to open the door and have someone else open it.

Luckily Christine opened it with a smile ��Hey y/n” she smiled before seeing the fluffy cat in your “and muffin”.

“I’m sorry to interrupt but I just got this documentary series for one of the teams in the ‘gold cup’ thing and I need someone to look after my cat” You smiled shyly, holding muffin up like he was a prize.

“He only scratches when you don’t give him belly scratches when he wants it” you instructed and the older woman just nodded, grabbing the cat out of your hands “You’re filming Canada by the way,” she told you and you smiled “are they all nice?” you asked and she nodded “extremely, way more than me,” she said as she started playing with your cat's ears.

“Yes, because you’re so scary”

Christine gave you a deadpan stare before dropping the cat onto her floor which he then immediately ran onto her couch and made himself comfortable.

“I can give you a rundown on everything if you’d like,” Christine said as she saw your shaky hands, you were very nervous and you nodded “Yes please, I just need to pack,” you told her “You can tell me whilst I do that,” you told her before running back to your apartment, Christine walking behind you before closing the door on Muffin who had now fallen asleep on her couch.

“Okay so I retired from my national career last year so I’m not there”

“oldie” you teased and the woman threw a Canadian scarf at you, which she had grabbed on her way out “I’m not old, and that is if you need to go to a game” You folded it into your suitcase “Thanks”

She explained to you the new girls and the younger ones before she went in depth about some of the others “And then there’s Jessie, she’s the new captain, I like to call her a mini-me” You smiled “Well that’s cute”

“She hates it though, so don’t call her that”

“I hardly think I’ll have a conversation with her or any of them,” you said with a shake of the head “They’re Canadians, they love to talk also Jessie isn’t the biggest fan of social media so maybe keep that in mind when she found out about the series she called in a nervous mess,” Christine said and you took a mental note to remember it “she is the captain though so that might be hard” you mumbled.

“You’re talented I think you can do it,” Christine told you before looking at her phone “It’s twelve, go to bed, where’s muffins food?”

“Next to the potted plant in the front” you sighed before zipping up your case.

Christine got up from her seat and rubbed her hands on her lap “Just look after Fleming for me, she can get in her head sometimes” she said softly and you nodded “I can do that”.

Christine nodded before leaving the room, you heard her pick up the food before she left.

The next twenty-four hours were a bit of a blur for you, you boarded the plane with Joan and two other camera guys and flew to San Diego where the Gold Cup was being held, and arrived at your hotel where Joan let you all take a long nap before you were needed in the meeting room.

You roll out of bed, putting a pair of jeans and a sweater on before walking down with your camera.

“You must be one of the camera people?” a voice popped up and you turned to a blonde woman “Yeah I’m y/n” you introduced yourself and the Canadian nodded “Chloe, I can walk with you to the meeting room, you look a little lost”

You gratefully nodded and followed behind the girl who you learnt played for Arsenal which Christine had told you, but you didn’t want the players knowing their ex-captain gave you a lesson about all of them.

When the two of you walked in, you felt people staring at you before Chloe smiled “this is y/n one of the filmers?” she asked and you nodded “Pretty much”

Some of the girls who arrived early started asking you questions right away.

‘Where are you from?’

‘Do you support a team?’

“Guy’s leave her be for a second she just got here”

A voice popped up and you looked across to a girl who had brown short hair, a little bit shrivelled up and her hands were in her pockets. She must’ve just woken up from a nap.

But you recognised her from Christine’s ‘lesson’

You smiled shyly at her before the Canadians gave you all sympathetic looks “It’s okay umm to answer your questions Uhm unfortunately I’m not that into sports, I’m from Los Angeles and thankyou I like this sweater too” You smiled and some of the girls laughed, including Jessie who still seemed tired, or maybe nervous.

You excused yourself to set up your camera and started to film once the meeting began, there were little introductions and you smiled and waved when their coach announced your name, catching eye contact with Jessie, both of you quickly looking away.

Their coach announced Jessie as the captain as you did your job, zooming up to the girl who glanced at you through the corner of her eye before being congratulated by friends.

Once the meeting finished you started to pack up your camera as Joan told you to interview some of the girls as she saw you talking to some of them.

When she left you saw another figure approaching you “Hi” a Canadian voice popped up and you whipped your head around to see Jessie “hi” you smiled and she looked down at your feet “Do you live in Portland by any chance?” she asked and you quickly zipped up your bag.

You didn’t want them to know you were friends with Christine, you felt like it would effect your job as their interviewer.

“Uhm yeah, why?” you asked and Jessie blushed “Oh I just- I just thought I had seen you before that’s all” she said, one hand brushing her hair back behind her ear.

“I’m guessing you live in Portland then?” you ask, standing up and she nods “Only recently though, I used to live in London before” You smiled “I have friends from college who live there, they say it’s nice but just really cold” Jessie nodded with a smirk “They are not wrong trust me”.

You just laughed and pulled your bag across your shoulder and Jessie looked to the door “I can walk you back to the room, It’s a bit hard to navigate” she offered

You thought back to when her teammate had found you at a loss because of that you had remembered how to get up but for some reason, you didn’t want to say no to the girl in front of you.

“Sure”

Jessie smiled before setting off out of the room, you beside her.

“What room are you?” she asked “307” you replied and she smiled “I’m 310” she revealed and you laughed “maybe we’ll run into each other more, “I really want to go to the hotel pool and spa but there's no free time during the day, the schedule is packed”

“Late night swim then?” Jessie asked and you nodded “maybe”.

You didn’t realise you had made it to your room before Jessie stopped walking “Well have a good night and maybe don’t try to wake me when you go the the pool” she teased and you rolled your eyes

“Maybe another night, I am dying for some sleep,” you said and the girl laughed as she reached her door.

“Bye Y/n’

The first couple of days in camp were full of training for the Canadian team, sometimes you would pull some of the girls out for one-on-one questions which they always smiled and answered with full honesty.

Sabrina and you had to take a break from how much she made you laugh with silly comments.

After the first game, Canada came on top and you tried hard not to scream out in cheers as you were filming but once you stopped you greeted the girls with hugs. Squeezing Jessie a bit harder and congratulated her first game as the official captain.

“It’s um- It’s-“ she stuttered before shaking off her nerves “Thanks” she smiled and you laughed “Nasty black eye” You pointed at her eye which was red and blotchy, already bruising in some parts, Jessie lifted her fingertips up and lightly pressures the skin surrounding her eyes “Hopefully it will make me look badass” she laughed and you tilted your head to get a good look at it.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad for a coffee date tomorrow”

Jessie’s face turned red “What?” she asked and you blushed as well but laughed “Your interview at the café” you explained and Jessie looked at her feet “Oh yeah- I- I forgot” she admitted running her hand through her hair.

“I’ll leave you guys to it then, see you all at the hotel” you yelled out to the team before running after Joan who was already out of the arena.

Once you were sitting in the car your phone buzzed “Is that from Jessie?” Joan asked and you swivelled your head “Umm what no!” you said quickly, and your boss laughed “I’ve seen you two mingling”

“Please never say that word again”.

In the morning you were excited to get out of bed, even if the sun was still rising and it was weird because you were not a morning person.

Then you thought about your boss's comment.

You hesitantly knocked on the girl's door which she quickly opened right after “Hey” she smiled and you waved your camera back at her “Hey Fleming” Smiling Jessie stepped out and closed her door “What café are we going to?” she asked “I chose a good one don’t worry”

You both tried to ignore stares from the public eye once you started setting up your camera and Jessie pretended to be preoccupied by her phone.

“all done” you smiled sweetly at Jessie “Can I press record?” she asked, confused by the video camera on the tripod, you found it adorable “Absolutely,” you said and the girl dived in.

“What does this button do?” she asked, and you peered your head over her shoulder, not realising that the impact made the girl red “That switches the brightness” you explained, brushing your fingertips to show her.

“I think if I wasn’t always so busy with soccer, I’d be taking pictures and videos of beautiful things all the tim,e” she told you and you nodded “It’s my favourite thing to do” you told her and she smiled, finally finding the record button.

“Can I say action?” she cheekily asked, and you nodded, laughing “if you really want to”

“Action!”

Jessie walked away from the camera, and you took over the camera as she walked over to the barista “hi” her cheery Canadian voice sounded, and she ordered her chair but turned back to you “do you want anything?” she asked and you popped your head up

“You don’t have to”

“I want to.”

You went silent before you remembered you hadn’t drunk or eaten anything yet “Just a hot chocolate please”

The barista smiled between your interactions as Jessie added a hot chocolate to her meal.

You both moved outside to start your interview, you smiled as Jessie talked about her passion, catching her eye a couple of times which made you both blush.

When your drinks came out you thanked the waitress who smiled at you both before telling Jessie she supported Chelsea but quickly came back with “we’ll miss you on the pitch”.

You laughed as Jessie got embarrassed, happy to catch It on film.

“That was sweet,” you told her and she laughed “Some Chelsea fans aren’t as sweet,” she told you and you hummed “I can imagine, as I’ve heard it’s a very hard on club”

You both went back to the interview before finishing up “Can you see my black eye?” she asked and you shook your head “Only when you looked straight at the camera but you hardly did that”

“I’m not the biggest fan of being filmed or doing social media” she admitted “I can kind of tell” You laughed and Jessie picked up your camera “Can I try and film?”

“film what?” you ask “Beautiful things” She shrugged “Like you said” she added and you felt a weird tingly feeling in your stomach.

You weren’t sure if it was from her words or the way her arms flexed when she picked the camera up and turned it towards you.

Jessie seemed to make it evident that she was filming you, making you blush “I see the appeal” she hummed before passing it back to you.

“Have you gone to the hotel spa yet?” Jessie asked and you nodded “I swam around the night after the game but I’m planning on going again” You responded, “Maybe this time I’ll join you?” Jessie asks hesitantly.

You smiled at her question “I would like that Jess” you told her, and she turned to you, slightly shocked “Yeah?” she asked and you nodded “yeah it be nice to have some company”.

Throughout the day you couldn’t stop smiling, thinking of Jessie and your conversation in the coffee shop but you tried to dial it down, filming the girls training as if nothing happened.

You will admit you found yourself filming Jessie more than the others at certain times.

You joined the team huddle next to Sabrine and Janine, Sabrine whispering ‘action’ in your ear, her arm around your waist making you laugh, catching Jessie’s attention as her eyes glared daggers at her Canadian teammate, which did not go unnoticed by Janine who pointed her brows at her friend.

To which Jessie ignored.  

When the small meeting ended between the group you filmed everyone leaving, getting ready for the game against the USA.

Jessie was watching as you panned the camera around, not seeing her best friend behind her “Jessie” Janine said and the girl shrieked, the sound going from nowhere “Where did you come from?” the ex-Chelsea player said, her voice slightly raised from panic.

“Well you would’ve noticed if you weren’t too busy ogling the camera girl,” the blonde girl said, her eyebrows raised “Her name is y/n,” Jessie said with her eyes looking to the floor “Right, y/n” Janine nodded.

Janine looked back over to you as you were now packing up, cocking her head as she took a good look at you “She’s familiar” she hummed as Jessie span her face around “Stop looking at her, or else she’ll know we’re talking about her”

“Oh calm down Jess, she’s probably into you too” Janine brushed her friend off who was now blushing “I’m not-“ she tried to lie but her friend shot her a look “Okay I’m into her”.

Janine gasped “I know how I know her now!” Jessie bulged her eyes, slapping her friend “Shut up” she said before running away into the rooms, blushing as you looked over, waving to Janine who held a smile and ran up to you.

“You’re Christine's neighbor!” she said loudly, proud of herself as you stuttered “Y-yeah I am” you smiled and Janine stepped back “Oh did you not want people to know” she cringed and you shook your head “No it’s fine I think, I just didn’t want to bring it up or brag about it” you explained and the girl nodded and you continued, finding a flow in the conversation “I tried to be very professional coming into this and not really talk so I didn’t think people needed to know but you guys are all nice” you shrugged and Janine nodded “I just recognised you, I’ve been to Christine’s a lot”

You nodded “Yeah she’s looking after my cat right now” you laughed and she joined you, silently judging your character for her good friend.

“I need to see a picture”.

The weather was horrendous for the American game, limiting your access to filming in certain area but you were still drenched under your big raincoat that covered you. Filming as all the women practically swam around the ground.

Some of them even apologized as when they kicked near you, a gush of water fell on you from the impact.

You just responded with a smile and thumbs up. Hoping your camera won’t break soon.

You got up for penalties, finally going inside with your camera as you were called in “They lost?”

You asked as Joan walked in, helping you check the camera’s and nodded “I would allow you to check on Jessie but the two guys I had come with us have disappeared somewhere so you’re all I got right now” she sighed, the feeling of defeat on everyone’s shoulders.

“So we go home tomorrow?” you ask and the woman nodded

“We go home tomorrow”.

When you were sat in your room you watched the digital clock as it hit midnight, but you weren’t tired, you weren’t tired at all.

So you got up, put on your triangle bikini and the hotels dressing gown, grabbed a towel and walked out. You thought about knocking on Jessie’s door but elected not to thinking she needed her time.

She was probably asleep anyway.

You sat in the spa, your head laid back on your shoulders before you heard the door open, revealing a tired Jessie Fleming.

“I can leave if you want” you said, not sure if the girl wanted alone time but she shook her head “I was actually hoping you would be here” she gave you a half smile and you smiled back before she jumped into the spa with you.

There was a comfortable silence before you looked at Jessie “You okay?” you asked and the girl shrugged “This was just my first tournament as captain” she explained “can’t help but feel I let them down”

You nodded “You didn’t let anyone down Jess”.

The girl nodded, smiling at the nickname. “Can we talk about something other than football?” she asked and you smiled “sure, do you have a big family?”

The both of you talked, bringing smiles on each other’s faces, slowly gravitating towards each other until you were sitting next to each other both of your thighs touching.

“I can’t believe you took dance classes in college” you laughed, looking at the girl “I had moves” she defended herself but you just gave her a look, your eyes quickly looking at her lips as you saw she did the same.

The lights had been off the entire time as it was night but as you both started leaning into each other the lights turned on, both pulling away from the brightness as a worker walked in, oblivious to the two of you.

“What’s the time?” You asked, hiding your eyes “Five in the morning!” the worker yelled out to you both as your eyes popped “I’m on a plane in two hours!”

Jessie watched as you panicked, quickly jumping out of the spa and grabbing two towels for you both “here” she threw it to you and you wrapped yourself before quickly turning to the girl “I’m sorry”

And you left.

Jessie was sitting in Christines kitchen playing with a bowl of cereal after her flight.

“So you met a girl, flirted with her and didn’t kiss her” Christine listed as Jessie groaned “well technically I tried but we were interrupted” she said and Janine laughed “you shoul’ve seen it she was so into her it was insane”

“It wasn’t that obvious”

“We had a bet going on, her workmates were in on it!”

Christine furrowed her brows …workmates?

“What was her name?” Christine asked but her doorbell rang, Christine going up to answer as she knew someone was coming “wait my neighbours getting her cat”

“I was wondering where this cutie came from” Janine cooed, scratching the cats head.

You were at the end of the door waiting for Christine to open the door, if there was anything that could make you feel any better right now was your cat.

“Hey y/n!” Christine cheered opening the door before two heads peeked through

“Y/n?”

“Jessie?”

“Oh I forgot to mention she was Christines neighbour”

And that’s how you met your future wife.

it wasn't much of a secret that the girls especially lara and manon got so much hate when the documentary got released — death threats , bullying , racism and etc — it took a toll out of their mental health especially since they were just getting started being an idol

recently katseye got invited to perform at the MAMA Awards , this was big the MAMA Awards is one of the biggest award ceremony in korea — so the girls spent weeks practicing their presentation for the awards

many sleepless nights and hours upon hours of practice took a negative turn for manons body — just two days before the awards she had to announce her mini hiatus due to her having a fever

obviously she was devastated, but she knew the rest of the girls were gonna do good—although she wished that she could also perform

"babyy i miss you :((" manon texts you , it was pretty early so you went to their dorms , you drive faster than usual sensing something was wrong

you knock on the door waiting for her to open it—well what greeted you was manon sniffling with a blanket draped over her frame

"baby what's wrong??" you ask entering the abode , she hugs you not muttering a word , as your shirt absorbed her tears , you held her head closer to you but you felt like she was burning "your burning up , are you alright?— did you take your medicine yet?" a motherly way of concern starts to take over you

"i-im okay" she sniffles yet again , finally she lifts up her head — her eyes were puffy her nose red and her face coated with her tears

"no you're not baby , tell me what's bothering you?" you sternly said to her , you both sat down on the couch with her clung onto you

"I just - I saw videos and comments that I wasn't sick that I was just lazy but I'm not!—i work as hard as everyone does!" manon exclaims her hands flailing around , angry and upset tears leaving her eyes as she stumbled over her words

"I know , you shouldn't care about what they say — they're just jealous of you" you said comforting her , her frown deepens "no they just hate me" she says , your heart breaks at everything manon had to endure

"I don't care what they say — I love you that's what matters , not some stupid comment made by someone who probably can't achieve the things you have" you scolded — her tears soon dried up and a smile forms on her face

"I love you too" she smiles , her lips now on yours as a tint of pink made it's way to your cheeks — "now take your medicine" you mutter , she groans

"it tastes like shit — I'm not even over exaggerating it" manon mumbles pouting at you

"language and no just because you look cute doesn't mean you won't take your medicine" you chuckle at her attempt to stop you from making her drink her medicine

after watching a movie and finally making manon drink some paracetamol — she peacefully falls asleep whilst her head was on your lap , you made a soothing motion on her scalp

[Patriotic top star Wang Yibo]

What big day is August 5? Last year, this day was the 12th anniversary of the New People's Party; it was also the birthday of Wang Yibo, a top star in the mainland.

Wang Yibo has a deep connection with Hong Kong. He was born in 1997, when Hong Kong returned to the motherland. I still remember that he sang a song "Stand Up" for Hong Kong on the 25th anniversary of the return; on July 1, 2023, he personally came to Hong Kong to attend the "Greater Bay Area Film and Music Gala" "The Moon Rises in the Bay Area", but unfortunately it did not cause much response at the time.

Although he is not a popular idol of Hong Kong people, friends who pay attention to the mainland entertainment industry know that Wang Yibo is a top star in the mainland entertainment industry; he has extraordinary dancing skills, and his status as the "King of Dance" in the mainland is unquestionable. In addition, he is also engaged in many public welfare undertakings; he recently filmed a documentary series on protecting pangolins as a public welfare ambassador of WildAid. He is an artist with both talent and virtue.

In addition, when he was serving as a torchbearer for this year's Olympics in Paris, he saw a fan holding a mini national flag accidentally dropped it on the ground, and he picked it up spontaneously, showing his sincere respect and love for the national flag. If every young person in Hong Kong can spontaneously love the national flag and national emblem, and understand that it represents the dignity of the country, then it means that Hong Kong's patriotic education has truly succeeded.

It’s not an “act”, that is just how they are.

and it’s what we’ve been saying, that these two are one of the best ways for CHN to have some soft power in the international stage. tho i’m sure they will have detractors who will be quick to pull out “evidence” of their government support and use it against them.

China’s “danmei” genre is booming in the West

The article “How to Tell Chinese Stories Well” (July 14) overlooks an important genre that is growing in popularity in the West and is more reflective of contemporary Chinese life than works from decades ago such as Shanghai Life and Death or The Wild Swans.

I am referring to the danmei genre of online novels. Danmei is a term that originated in Japan. This new genre has spawned a number of very successful online novels that have been adapted into extremely popular Chinese TV series and translated into English. A prominent example is The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, which was adapted into the Chinese TV series The Untamed in 2019 and translated into English and is available on Amazon.

Untamed made two young actors, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, famous in China. Another very successful work is Erha and His White Cat Shizun, which made the New York Times bestseller list in English. The English version has a wide readership in the West and is available in paperback.

Danmei novels celebrate “boys’ love”, which is officially frowned upon. A major production based on Erha, produced by Tencent, has been shelved. But the genre has a large following in China and abroad, inspiring fan art, fan works and merchandise.

Many danmei online novels are written by women for women. Why are they so popular among Chinese women? Their popularity reflects the frustrations of contemporary Chinese women: they are trapped between traditional, realistic, family-oriented marriage concepts and a desire for romance and true love, as celebrated in danmei novels. Such novels have become a channel for their fantasy and escapism. Surprisingly, these novels have also been loved by Western audiences.

While TV series based on such novels have been banned, animated versions of some popular works are still in production. The resilience of the genre, which is seen by the authorities as a departure from the official "main melody" works, reflects the delicate relationship between the authorities and the artists who create them. Most of the time, the authorities have the upper hand, but the ban has not stopped private enterprises and creative talents from finding space for the genre to thrive. Can we call it the authorities' "one eye open, one eye closed" attitude?

* this is a short but very interesting take on the whole thing. she is not even mentioning how TGCF is so popular in the mainland and continues to do so with it’s donghua and manhua. i guess it’s really one eye open and one eye closed and i hope it stays that way so that this genre will continue to thrive! i’m not holding that much expectation for the live action versions tho.

Okay, it's completely up to you if manager y/n is secretly a super good artist or not but I am 100% convinced that regardless of this she always makes super elaborate handmade birthday gifts for all the girls.

And they make the recipient cry every time. Like, they're always so well thought through and a lot of effort (I'm talking days if not WEEKS) is put into them. And manager is a busy girl so it just means that much more!!

It's gotten to the point that the girls refer to their birthdays as "y/n's gift reveal day".

Manager y/n is going on what can only be described as side quests to make these happen.

Like, for KK's first birthday at UConn (or more importantly, her first birthday with manager y/n) she spent 2 months holed up in her art major friends metal working class to make her a new chain after she accidentally broke it in an impromptu pick up game.

She also bought vintage fabric from a small shop somewhere in Croatia (thank you Etsy) and made Nika a quilt with it because she heard her complaining about being cold at night with the a/c blasting.

The team (and secretly manager y/n) is always most excited for Paige's birthday though because she always gets SO emotional when she sees what manager y/n has made her. When she was injured there was a hand bound bible with a painted cover (she also went through it and highlighted passages that she thought would help her with her injury). There was also a drawing one year (that has since been framed) of a collection of over 20 Photo Booth pictures and polaroids Paige and the girls had taken, all sketched out onto a massive canvas.

And for a special add on: Geno got a mini video documentary manager y/n's junior year which had all of his career highlights and interviews/messages from everyone she could contact that knew/loved him. The poor guy had to sit down when he saw it.

this is the realest thing i've read all day BECAUSE YES!!!!! like we've already covered, manager is super duper thoughtful and she treats birthdays like a special holiday. she grew up with a big family and they were a bday family so it seeps into her work too!!!

Eden rubs her eyes with her fingers, checking out her puffy face in the mirror. “Good morning,” She whispers to the camera before pointing her phone screen towards it. “It’s currently four a.m. It is going to be our very first day in the studio recording for my first mini album.”

She quickly brushes her teeth and washes her face. She applies toner pads before whispering again. “I am very excited, but also anxious. It’s gonna be my first release working with an entirely new team, but I’m confident the results are going to be great. I managed to get about three hours of sleep, but we shouldn’t be recording too many vocals on the first day. I’m hoping it’ll be pretty chill as we create a roadmap for what we’re going to accomplish.”

She slouches over the kitchen counter, waiting for her coffee to brew. “I’d usually head around the corner to the cafe near our apartment, but it is four a.m. So I’m just gonna make a quick coffee and order breakfast when everything starts opening up.”

The video cuts to Eden kissing her fingertips, proceeding to press it against the top of a teddy bear. “Gotta give Younghui a goodbye kiss before I leave.”

She fastens her seatbelt before taking a sip of her coffee. “It’s kinda weird seeing me drive, right?”

“We’ve made it to the studio. I’ll see you inside!”

Eden has her hands on her hips, putting all her weight on one leg as the producer messes around with the mixing. She notices the studio door open behind him with her peripheral vision. She realizes it’s Jennie with takeout bags. Both of their faces light up when their eyes meet. Eden has to put her headphones on the stand before she can exit the recording room.

“Hey!” Eden hugs her member once she sets the food down. It had been a couple weeks since they last saw each other.

“How are you doing? Is everything comfortable for you here?”

“Oh, I love it. We’re getting a lot of work done.” She extends her hand, patting the back of his chair.

“I’ll let you two chit chat. I need to make a few calls.” He makes a few clicks with the mouse and then gets up to exit the room.

Jennie smiles towards her, opening the takeout bags and reaching in. “I know you’re working extra hard so I got us some good food.”

She hands Eden her favorite cold noodles, while also taking out her own order. They get themselves situated before sitting down and taking their first bite. The girls talk about how good the food is, while making small talk of what the day has offered to them so far.

“So what are you working on now?” Jennie wipes her mouth with a napkin.

“Well, let me show you.” Eden puts her chopsticks down, pushing herself towards the computer and finding a part in the song to showcase to her.

Jennie listens attentively, swaying her head back and forth. The instrumental and voice guide are the only things done but it still sounds very nice.

“And then I have two options for the second verse, one in English and the other Korean.” She clicks away and plays each version of the verse, watching Jennie’s reactions.

“I like it! They’re both very nice.”

“We haven’t decided which one to go for. Which do you like more?” Eden stops the playback, turning in her swivel chair to face the woman.

Jennie purses her lips for a second, pondering. “Well, they’re both very pretty, and I don’t know who’s all working on this one but I think the Korean verse would make it more ‘you’. Do you get what I’m saying?”

“I do.” Eden sighs and clicks her tongue, tilting her head before making more adjustments. “That settles it then.”

“You’re using the Korean verse?”

“Yep.”

“Don’t you have to discuss it with your team?”

Eden slides back over to her, smiling at Jennie. “You are my team. And I trust your judgment.”

They both smile at each other lovingly.

“I’m so proud of how far you’ve come,” Jennie squeezes her knee. “I’m so glad you have your freedom now. I’m just happy you’re doing what YOU want to do and it’s not being altered. I haven’t seen you this carefree in a while.”

“Jennie… Don’t make me cry.”

“The melody was the first thing to come from this song. I made it up in the passenger seat on the way home from a drive-in movie, actually. Do you ever just listen to music and think ‘this would be such a good song to play in the car, windows rolled down and feeling cool air through your hair’. That was my goal with this song. It feels very retro and nostalgic. I’m very happy with the end result.”

Eden smiles, pulling her legs up on the chair to her chest and resting her chin on her knee. “I don’t really need to explain this one. It’s simple and genuine and full of love. And I’m happy. I’m really happy with how it came out.”

“This song is about wanting to tell someone that you love them but are scared to. For me, a lot of it stems from my past relationships. You give a lot of yourself up when you say I love you for the first time. And the first time for me, it was very real. I thought it was very real for the longest time.

“The ideal way to feel when saying I love you is to be happy. But for me, I was filled with more fear and anxiety. It took a very long time to allow myself to love again. But even longer for me to express my love. I was extremely cautious about the next time I would tell someone I loved them.

“I always wonder what I would say to my past self who just finished writing this. She was so paranoid and small. But she was also very worthy of love, no matter how much she thought she was not. She didn't know that when the day finally came, it would be the easiest thing in the world. As simple as breathing.

“I wrote this many years ago so it’s just been sitting in my notes app, collecting dust. It wasn’t until earlier this year that I reached out to Finneas. I’ve always been a very big fan of his works. The first thing he sent me back was amazing and that’s the take that we use in the song. His verse was absolutely perfect and it really solidified the song as a whole.

Eden sets up the camera on the table, her hands shaking as she presses on the audio file. “I’m so nervous, I don’t know if I can press play.”

Her eyes widen as soon as it sets in that he’s singing along to the melody of her song with his own lyrics. She covers her mouth with her hands, squealing as the clip ends.

“Oh my god.” She replays it. “Oh my god.

“I gotta chill out, I can’t focus on his lyrics.” She stands to her feet, pressing her palms to her cheeks as she plays it once again. She has to replay it six times before it’s engraved in her brain. She looks at her producer friend, giving him a definitive look. “That’s it. Like it’s literally perfect. We just have to record our parts together and it’s done.”

[FIRST TIME]

Eden set up her camera at the kitchen table, soon rubbing her eyes with the palms of her hands. She let out a sigh and sniffled. “This song is from twenty eighteen or so, the darkest time in my life. I keep on forgetting it exists for obvious reasons. And I know I shouldn’t keep revisiting it if it keeps resurfacing past trauma, but I think in order to heal, I need to tackle it and make something of it. The whole concept of this album is to humanize myself and it would be wrong of me to just lock this song away. There could be someone out there that resonates with it as much as I do.”

She wipes her eyes with her fingers, nodding towards someone offscreen. A tiny smile appears on her face. “It was bothering me all day while recording and arranging, ‘Should this make the cut or not?’ but I think I just needed to catch my breath and think it over, get some reassurance. I feel much better now.

“Well, time to sleep so we can record this track tomorrow.”

I just went to watch that episode of Suchwita with taekook in it again, after reading this post and I must say I don’t agree that tae knew but was pretending because his reaction seemed genuine. Yoongi mentioned that Jk’s album was originally supposed to be a mini album or an EP and you could see Tae nod his head abit while eating but when yoongi mentioned that it turned into a full track album and asked how many tracks were in it, you could also clearly see tae’s shocked reaction like he was hearing that for the first time and he repeated the “huh” more than once and then went “suddenly?” I know he is an actor but no one is that good of an actor plus I don’t see why he would react so dramatically if he really knew and honestly he had no reason to. There’s been other times when he’s known about things but he usually just keeps quiet or comments about them but never that kind of reaction and I think it is a bit of a reach to claim that he was pretending so he doesn’t spoil anything or gives Jungkook his moment. Yes there’s been cases where the members have known about things but still acted like they didn’t just for effect but you can almost always tell when that’s the case.

The way I see it, Jk was recording at the company and Tae was probably there too and then passed by to check on Jungkook, just like Jungkook stopped by to check on Jimin when he was doing the Live for his documentary or just like Namjoon stopped by to check on Jimin when he did his birthday Live. Us seeing tae there at that time doesn’t mean he had knowledge about the process of the album just because he was there to see Jk record for a moment.

I usually have issues with this kind of takes because I don’t think they paint taekook in a very good light and I understand that they do lie but there is a difference between a necessary or white lie and people lying for no good reason. If someone were to ask taekook if they are dating, I wouldn’t expect them to say yes, they would definitely lie about it but that doesn’t mean I would think Jk lied when he said he didn’t know where Tae was when asked during Inkagayo Live. How does knowing where tae is prove anything? If he could admit to Tae being the first one to listen to his song or if Tae could tell us that Jk sings a song for him then why would Jk lie about something as unimportant like not knowing where Tae was?

I noticed that taekookers claimed that Jk lied after that Inkigayo Live and after we go the bangtan bomb of Tae visiting Jk at Inkiya, many Taekookers including you Peach, took that as proof that Jk did lie because he asked Tae “where have you been” but how does that prove he knew where Tae was? Doesn’t that actually instead prove that he really didn’t know where Tae was? The same thing is happening now with Tae’s reaction to Jk’s album process and you are using this seconds of clips we have gotten as proof that Tae did know but how does this prove that he knew? It is like saying that Jk knew all about Jimin’s album process just because we saw him stop by to check on him during his practice or just because he did background vocals in “letter”. Sometimes it is ok to take their words and actions at face value but you only seem to take things at face value when they work for you and I don’t think that is right. Also I find it funny the kind of useless things you want people to believe taekook lie about, like Jk randomly lying about Tae’s whereabouts even though he has admitted to other things that could be more damning that that or Tae just being a master pretender for the hell of it when he could have just stayed quiet or not reacted at all. I don’t think that is a good way to potray taekook. They are not some impulsive liars and pretenders. They probably lie when they absolutely need to but I don’t think they lie or pretend about things like this.

To conclude, I really from the bottom of my heart enjoyed watching this episode. I was struggling health wise last week and this epsiode gave me the energy I needed. I also feel I was more relieved by the fact that Jiminie didn't feel sick anymore and wasn't hurt in any way. I was so happy to see vminkook giggling.🤍 And jikook being so happy in each other's presence. Their moments, the little things they do for each other, I see them🤍 I know there are so many theories and asks about so many moments not only in this episode. Last book: I finally read Curtis Sittenfeld's Rodham last week and I still need to know HOW Sittenfeld convinced Random House to publish her shitty RPF! It was largely terrible (the smutty stuff with Bill was SO AWKWARDLY WRITTEN...who asked for this?) except for the middle third where it starts to become an AU and borderline okay, only for the novel to end on such a weird Pollyanna note of you can be a girlboss and gatekeep and gaslight yourself into thinking it's all good but in an extremely disingenuous way. Currently in the middle of reading a couple of other things (Ed Ashton's Mickey 7, suffering through the email chapters in Sally Rooney's Beautiful World, Where Are You, etc).

Last movie: I literally just finished watching Martha, R.J. Cutler's new Netflix documentary on Martha Stewart, because Joan Didion and I have both always known that Martha will always be the moment. She was unapologetic as always but also HILARIOUS. (The stuff about making out with a rando on her extended honeymoon when she went to the Duomo on Easter Eve and her husband stayed in the hotel! Her telling the audience that if your husband is a piece of shit who is cheating on you, you should leave and then the filmmaker being like, "But wait, didn't you have an affair when you were working on Wall Street?" and Martha being like, "Oh, but that didn't count because it was not serious and very short and wouldn't have ruined a marriage." LOL. I wanted more of that and her prison friendships and less about the trial that we all saw play out as it was happening.)

Last tv show: God, do I even watch TV anymore? The latest episode of The Penguin, probably.

Sweet/spicy/savory: Depends on what I'm craving, but I'm more inclined to choose savory most of the time.

Relationship status: Single and not mad about it.

Last thing googled: "Mini yacht" - I was working on the Positano chapter of that on and off again (and on again), not looking to buy a yacht. Prior to that, I think I looked up Todd Phillips' filmography after suffering through Joker: Folie à Deux and deciding that we should stop letting that man make movies. (Joaquin Phoenix bailed on the wrong movie helmed by a Todd!!!!)

Current obsession: The World Series, obviously.

ik it just came out and was only recently finished (like, finished Sept 2023 lol) so this is probably bias speaking but i am extremely taken by She Who Became the Sun and He Who Drowned the World, these books are fckn phenomenal. the gender-fuckery, the exploration of gender and sexual performances, the hidden message of embracing ourselves in all our ugliness and 'deficiency' and making a place for ourselves and ppl like us when others shun us. these books are just!!!

documentaries: immortal egypt (Joanne Fletcher)

i really really love documentaries and this mini series hold a special place in my heart bcs i love history and I've always been fascinated by egypt and Joanne's enthusiasm is just so joyous and infectious, i love it. i put this on repeat in the background when i was doing my graduation project in 2018 lol yea, just me listening to egyptian docu while working my ass off on AutoCAD lol

anime: sarusuberi/miss hokusai

idk how to explain but there's just a quality to this animated film that got me going... like, i adore howl's moving castle but miss hokusai is sth else. it's so peaceful but also deeply profound and visceral somehow.

tv series: aircrash investigation

i love planes, i love the Concorde in particular, but it has nth to do with how cool planes are but with how child-me saw riding planes as a thing that only ppl with money could do. it evolved from there.

i also love mysteries and aircrash investigation is both lol

i remember watching it on tv when i was an adolescent and i was fascinated with the mystery and problem-solving of it all ever since.

movie: the prince of egypt

it's a story about love; love that forgives, love that creates hate, love that divides.

drama: nirvana in fire (c-drama), beyond evil (k-drama), kluen cheewit (thai soap opera)

bl-specific: old fashion cupcake (anime AND manga)

the plot of these dramas is impeccable (tho kluen cheewit is extremely dramatic so pls beware lol), the character developments are fckn amazing, and what's even more important is the platonic relationships between the characters!!!

the story is really grounded in reality, the plot is so mundane and relatable, the characters are mature but extremely flawed, and the art (in the case of manga) and the acting (in the case of the series) are amazing.

Third Person POV

Jungsu and Seungmin were the first to meet (Y/n), who at the time was a golden trainee at JYPE. (Y/n) seemed to excel at everything, all the teachers and other trainees really looked up to them as they were so talented. Jungsu and Seungmin started out as trainees to debut in an idol group rather than a band, meaning they had practices alongside (Y/n), and the three quickly became good friends who often ate lunch together. Soon enough they had also fallen in love with each other. (Y/n) prepared and prepared to hopefully get to debut either as a soloist or in a group but no matter how talented they were, they were never chosen to debut. Eventually, Jungsu and Seungmin were announced to debut in a band alongside four other boys. (Y/n) was so happy for them and the boys said it would be (Y/n)’s turn soon too. Because (Y/n) was dating Jungsu and Seungmin they quickly got to know Gunil, Jiseok, Hyeongjun, and Jooyeon. The boys soon fell in love with (Y/n), and (Y/n) too found themselves falling in love with the four boys. 

“Jungsu, Seungmin, can I talk with you guys?” “Of course, honey, come on, let’s go for a walk,” The three went outside to go for a short walk. “So what’s up, (Y/n)?” “We promised each other we would always be honest and never lie, so I need to tell you that I’m catching feelings for the rest of the boys too, I’m so sorry” “Baby, don’t worry, don’t apologize, we can’t control who we fall in love with and not. Besides, the rest of the guys really like you too, so if you want we can all talk with them and just expand the relationship,” “Really?” “Of course, we love you so much and we know they love you too so it would just mean more love for us all,” And so the seven of them entered a poly relationship, once Xdinary Heroes debuted their fans quickly found out the members had a partner, most Villians were really happy for the boys seeing them so happy with (Y/n). Especially seeing (Y/n) being so supportive of their boyfriends, the fans began calling (Y/n) the greatest Villian, which to some seems like hate but nope it was the best compliment they could give to (Y/n). After Villians found some videos of (Y/n) during showcases they began calling out to JYPE to debut (Y/n). The fans saw how talented (Y/n) was and didn’t understand why JYPE wouldn’t debut them. 

A few weeks later, (Y/n) had been called to a meeting where it was finally announced that they were debuting as a soloist. The debut was set to happen in two months so it was time to begin working on the songs, choreo, and everything. That day when (Y/n) went home to their shared dorm with XH they told their boyfriends of the happy news. As soon as (Y/n) stepped inside the dorm they couldn’t help but shout with joy. “I’M DEBUTING!!! I’M DEBUTING!!!” The members came running out of wherever they were rushing up to (Y/n) to envelope them in a warm hug. “OMG CONGRATULATIONS!!!! FINALLY!!!” The seven of them celebrated the news that night and the boys couldn’t be happier for their lovely partner. 

Soon enough, (Y/n) was mentioned wide and far within the industry as one of the best idols as (Y/n) excelled in all areas and became known as JYPE’s Dark ACE, the dark referring to (Y/n)’s nickname ‘the greatest Villain’. And whenever (Y/n) was brought up around Xdinary Heroes the boys would cheer and become super happy, saying that (Y/n) is the best! JYPE announced that (Y/n) and XH would collaborate on a single and the fans couldn’t have been happier. They were a little sad that there wouldn’t be any choreo to the track but they were happy to hear (Y/n) sing with Jungsu and Jooyeon and rapping with Gaon and O.De. A mini documentary was released along with the single where the process of writing the song and recording it was showcased. In the documentary, the fans could see countless of moments where the XH boys were simping for (Y/n) and their talent. When writing the rap parts with Gaon and O.De, the two boys could be seen lovingly staring at (Y/n) as they rapped their part for the song. Ending the segment with showering (Y/n) with compliments. In the studio when recording a chorus where (Y/n) and Jungsu were harmonizing, all the boys ended up being speechless and just admiring their lovely partner. Even the producer was surprised at (Y/n)’s vocals and as the producer complimented (Y/n) the XH boys looked immensely proud. In between practices and recording a few moments were shown where the seven were just messing around with each other, having fun, and all the fans went crazy over how in love the seven of them seemed. The XH boys couldn’t help but fanboy over (Y/n) every time (Y/n) did anything, be it drinking water or singing, dancing, or rapping, it didn’t matter, they cheered and complimented (Y/n) for everything. Even JYP himself complimented (Y/n) saying they were one of the strongest performers under his company. 

So, in conclusion. (Y/n) can do just about everything, be it dancing, singing, rapping, or writing, and Xdinary Heroes knows just how good their partner is yet they can’t help but be amazed each time they see (Y/n) perform. But don’t worry, (Y/n) is just as in love and amazed with XH.

At first, before the humans arrived to the Lost Light, by the totally well planned and precalculated plan made by their loved captain, everyone were given continuous (and obligatory) lessons on how to interact with humans, how to hold them using an strange doll than most crushed in their first try, "this is why it's best to be prepared", how to prevent accidents, download every human language and so on, even the first time contact bots aboard had to be taught how to filter human pheromones because as an species they don't have the ability to suppress such basic necessity and it's rude to point it out, "Damn, poor fleshies", ah, also, don't say rude things like that, Riptide, think about the human's feelings, please; all in all it was mostly common things like that and when the first ones put pedes, um, feet, they were mostly prepared, being the mini bots the firsts to be graced with the human's trust first given the height difference (and because they are adorable).

So you must understand their complete shock when one human said: "I'm pregnant" to explain why the other humans were making a party with pastel ribbons and that, no, Tailgate, her tank isn't going to explode, it just has a new life inside.

The only one bot that understood what was happening from the get go was Ratchet, his time back on earth and his knowledge on human physiology made him the main resource of information, and also the most bothered mech in the starship for the next 8 months or so.

Once he had enough he just told Rewind to show them some kind of documentary about humans.

That movie night everybot reunited, it wasn't mandatory like before but the idea of a human sparkling around, after so long without new life in their own barracks, was tempting and also hopeful in every sense, even bots that weren't that near to humans also came.

They ended up seeing a marathon of all the Alien movies, even the crossovers.

More than one bot purged their tank and more than one screamed, cried in horror or downright fainted due to what they believed was the "delivery" of a human baby because they all wanted to know how the baby was going to get out and simply go straight to the chest buster scene, there is so much fleshy fluids around and so much shouts of agony and- oh Primus have mercy, what in the Pit is that thing-?!

"We'll look after your sparkling after you're gone, your sacrifice is valued and recognized for us, we'll remember you and tell tales of your courage to the new spark" the soon to be mother didn't understand shit while Tailgate and Riptide cried over her while hugging her, pleading the baby to not come too soon, other bots were outside the humans zone crying over how abruptly one human life must end to give way to the other, Cyclonus was on his knees and his sword was solemnly next to him in order to show the sincerity of his oath to his human friend, to this day some swear on their spark they saw some coolant tears on his dead optics, "when the time comes, you can leave without regrets".

Oh, imagine having to explain them.

"You won't die then?"

"If everything goes fine, then no"

"Then you won't die!" Oh, Riptide, the new mother was his first human friend and he was attached.

But, in all honesty, when the time of delivery does come most bots are waiting outside the medbay, just to immediately shut down their audial receptors by the cries and screams, didn't the humans say it wasn't like the movie?!

After agonizing hours they can finally see the new born human baby through a big glass carefully resting in the arms of the mother, and it is so-

"It looks like a fragging wet and armorless turborat after being soaked in acid for a week"

"Whirl!"

"What, if you think that's cute then you're lying to yourself!"

"I call dibs on the name!"

"It's not the time, Rodimus!"

Geez, the name Novamoon was tacky but at least had nothing to do with Nova Prime, but who was going to tell no to the new mama when she looked so exhausted but oh so happy, not knowing what they did as she was calling her new spark, ignorant of the very crazy and very supremacist anti organic propaganda now totally dead Prime?, no one had the courage to even mention Nova Prime and just forgot about him when baby Nova started to look more human and also started to ask for "up up" with her little organic servos as high as she could, no one could deny the little human femmeling as she crawled around the safe part of the ship with a turborat onesie that was away too cute for most sparks, bound to do some mischief with Riptide just two steps behind to keep her safe.

Finally I was able to catch-up with zono!

How cool is that! She has now Dj'd zouis shows🤩 and the documentary starting somewhere in Pennsylvania had me😂 and hearing Zayn's thoughts and him sharing his rehearsals and just goofing around the farm is everything and absolutely loved how he says we are all just human beings not everyone is perfect and don't get me wrong even though there is pressure on him for returning on stage after 9 years, he seems so at peaceful and just be happy to be playing his album live which is just him and without the in ears fucking hell Zayn bro how did you manage to do that?

He looked so good and the coat was gone during 1st song 😂 and absolutely loved the screen and visuals throughout the show. His band is amazing all girls🥰 he thanked after every song and did the bow at end of the send and left just like that😂. His vocals are just amazing and my god he just smashed live performance the crowd was so happy to be there and hear him live the live streamer was so sweet with her commentary I love her.

Sad that he didn't see the fan project in real-time but I saw it was being recorded so he sure has seen it by now I think.
