moodymagazine Oh moodies! Last year the Louisville rapper #JackHarlow was seen rapping to #y/n FNF freestyle at the club. Do we think this might have been the start of their rumored romance or is it pure coincidence? As you might know, the sky is due to get a new star any time now, in a few months at most.
What is happening? The recurrent nova T Coronae Borealis, by far the brightest one known, is a star* in the northern constellation Corona Borealis that, once every 80 years or so, increases in brightness from completely invisible by naked eye to among the ~100 brightest in the night sky. This increase is called a nova, from the Latin word for new, as it looks like a new star has appeared.
Where can i see it from? Basically all human inhabited latitudes, all except the far south. In the northern latitudes, however it is visible the entire night, while near and below the equator you will need to 'catch' it at the right time of night, which in August and September is just after sunset.
How will it look? Let's not get your hopes up too high. It will, at the brightest, reach a magnitude around 2 at most, so about as bright as the north star, relatively unremarkable and completely unnoticeable as unique to someone who doesn't know where to look. But still, it's the most visible sudden change to the relatively fixed pattern of the heavens any of us will live to see, so you should still go give it a look.
Where is it? Currently, the constellation is best visible about 1 or 2 hours after sunset. You will need to be relatively far away from light pollution, so at least a couple dozen stars are clearly visible. While learning the constellations, and finding the star by orienting via those is imho half the fun, you could use one of many sky map apps and websites to tell you the star's location. If it didn't happen yet, there should be nothing visible at that location. However, if there is, congrats! You just did an astronomy™ :3
Tumblr media
It will appear in the circle next to the star labeled ε
Why is this happening? Most stars spend most of their lives in a stable, hydrogen fusing state. However, when hydrogen in their cores begins to run out, they switch to helium fusion, which makes them swell up to enormous sizes, turn red due to lower surface temperature, and are thus called red giants. After this helium runs out, the star will (in most cases) throw off the inflated outer layers, while its hot, dense core shrinks and keeps on glowing due to how hot it is, while not actually doing any fusion and not producing any new energy. Those are called white dwarfs, and because they don't fuse, aren't technically stars at all, therefore the asterisk in the first sentence of this post. The T-CrBo system is a red giant and white dwarf binary, where the red giant has grown so big, that the parts of it closest to its partner aren't gravitationally bound to it anymore. Therefore, the gas falls and accumulates on the white dwarf's surface (which otherwise has no hydrogen on its own), untill a critical point is reached where the pressure of the gas causes it to all fuse at once, resulting in a huge thermonuclear explosion bright enough to be seen from over 2500 light years. The explosion however, isn't big enough to blow the dwarf apart, and it starts accumulating new matter from its partner right away. Because of this, it with re-explodes every 8 decades, and it is due to go any day now.

hello^^
one, your writing is beautiful and it always brings a smile to my face when i read it
and two, could we get a bad sanses +cross x reader where the reader is small? like the reader is below 5’2” (157cm) and they’re pretty slim??
Hello! I'm overjoyed to know that my silly writing brings a smile to your face, that's exactly what I aim for! :D
Hope this'll be to your liking! ^^
I realized, that I forgot to add the part about the reader being slim, only after writing it 💀 I'm stupid, sorry for that! 😭
MASTERLIST
BAD SANSES X SHORT!READER
NIGHTMARE:
PLATONIC
It doesn't surprise him in the slightest that you're much shorter than him. (He has some sort of god complex going on)
He has a habit of overlooking you, cause he never pays much attention to you.
You often trip just because of him.
He's such an asshole, I swear.
He gives you the more easier tasks, cause he doesn't believe you can do the harder ones.
Prove him wrong, and the next task you'll get will be something like... "Go destroy this AU." And it's like a solo mission too 💀
This dude gives zero shits about you. (He's just acting like a higher-up.)
ROMANTIC
If you stirr some romantic feelings in Nightmare, then he'll immediately notices your height difference. It's actually one of the main things he notices, other than your cute face.
He's not going to go soft on you though. He WILL tease the everliving shit out of you. But his teasing is actually so harsh, his words seriously hurt you. (And he doesn't even aim for that 😭)
Don't worry, it's not long before he gets softer with you, and tone your teasing down.
He literally doesn't let you do the dangerous missions. Or he will, but will team you up with himself. (He thinks he's so slick.)
Other than that, he doesn't really care about your height.
KILLER:
PLATONIC
He loves your shortness. Will make fun of you, almost every chance he gets.
He uses so many puns against you.
He's actually the shortest of the bad senses, so he partly forgets about the fact that he's almost the same height as you. 💀
Man's so goofy, you'll literally become best friends.
He loves to leave you hanging when you need help from him. (Evil at its fittest.)
Imagine you need something from the top shelf, and you can't reach it. So you ask Killer for help. He won't help you. He smiles wide while he's leaving, with you screaming profanities in the background.
ROMANTIC
He giggles the first time he sees your height. (Like he isn't the same height as you 💀)
He LOVES to help you get things from higher places. Makes him feel like your personal hero.
He would somehow convince Nightmare to make him and you go on missions together. (He just annoyed him with it until Nightmare eventually gave up.)
He likes teasing you, kinda like Nightmare does, but his teasing is more like flirting..if it makes sense. It leaves you a blushing mess, and he loves that fact.
You two have little teasing war. He makes fun of your height, and you in turn, make fun of his height.
Y'all are so silly, you're just flirting with each other at this point. 💀
DUST:
PLATONIC
Dust is just one of the people that doesn't pay attention to the heights of others. Or any of these sort of things.
He just doesn't care. 💀
You're not even a monster of some kind he could monitor, you hold no interest in him.
There's like an 80% chance that he'll ignore you altogether.
Though he has some standards, so he'll try to defend you if the others are making fun of your height. (Only if he has a good day though. Don't count on it 💀)
ROMANTIC
Even if he felt some sort of romantic attraction towards you, he just won't care about your height.
He'll probably just say like three puns about your height, but he won't comment on it any more.
He actually finds your height difference pretty adorable. He just wants to hold you tight and not let go.
He'll gladly help you if you needed something from a higher place. He quite likes it, actually.
He won't even ask Nightmare if he could go on missions with you. He just goes. (Nightmare will be fuming when he finds out 💀)
He'll be acting like he doesn't like it when you ask him for anything, y'know, acting like his emo self 🙄
HORROR:
PLATONIC
He audibly sighs, when he sees your height. You're another person on his list of people that he has to look down at, to actually talk to you.
But he does feel a little afraid of accidentally hurting you. You're just so small compared to him...
He makes it his mission to actively avoid you, just so he won't hurt you :(
You misunderstand it as him not liking you. Which results in more misunderstanding 💀
Doesn't try to acknowledge your height that much. He knows how frustrating it is to constantly hear about your height... So he doesn't do it. Which you greatly appreciate ^^
ROMANTIC
He has the same first reaction if he fell in love with you. He sighs, but it sounds more... Whiny...
He just feels really scared of hurting you, but he can't avoid you either, just cause he wants to talk to you. It's a real struggle.
Other than that, actually finds your shortness really cute. And he doesn't mean it teasingly, he means it genuinely.
Wants to be around you at all times, he wants to protect you. You've got yourself your own guard dog 💀
Appoints himself as your mission buddy. Doesn't even bother to ask for a permission from Nightmare. (This is gonna bring a little trouble to him in the future..)
Loves to carry you around on his shoulders. Not only do you feel taller, but he feels really good while having you on his shoulders. It's like he can show you off to anyone proudly.
You don't even have to ask him for help, he's already up and ready to help you out. He just has this feeling that you need help.
Can you tell that I like "short partner x tall partner" troupe?
Anyways, just thought that I'd show you what my HC on their height is at the end.
From tallest to shortest:
Horror, Reaper, Nightmare, Dream, Fresh, Swap, Dust - Epic (same height), Killer - Error - Cross (they're all the same height), Fell - Classic (same height), Ink (shortest lmao)
No one can top Horror's height. He's just the tallest of the Sanses 🤷‍♀️
(I think that the thought of Reaper being taller than Nightmare is funny.)

VIOLET IS SCARED OF THE DARK! BUT WHY? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
🚨 Spoilers for Fourth Wing and Iron Flame Below 🚨
When reading Fourth Wing one of the many times I've read it I noticed that Violet seemed scared of the dark on several occasions. However, the newest Xaden POV bonus chapter (Ch 27) solidified my crack theory that may mean nothing at all even further.
Fourth Wing:
⚡️Chapter 1: "The Captain nods and points to the open door into the turret. It looks ominously dark in there, and I fight the urge to run like hell."
-> This is the weakest evidence but I wanted to include it. Even though the majority of the fear probably stems from having to cross the parapet and going into the riders quadrant I can't help but notice how the darkness of the turret is pointed out in relation to her wanting to run away.
⚡️Chapter 19: "'Hope you're not afraid of the dark.' He pulls me inside, and suffocating darkness envelopes us as the door closes. This is fine. This is absolutely fine. 'But just incase you are,' Xaden says, his voice at full volume as he snaps. A mage light hovers above our head, Illuminating our surroundings. 'Thanks'"
-> side note: as Nicole from FFG would say ITALICS! Is this a Xaden intinsic moment or is this similar to Ch 27 where he senses her fear down their bond?
⚡️Chapter 27 from Violet's POV: "Xaden lifts a hand a few inches above the table, and shadows pour from underneath our seats, filling the room and turning it dark as midnight in a blink. My heart jumps as my sight goes black."
⚡️Chapter 27 from Xaden's POV: "I lift my palms just enough to clear the table and summon the cooling darkness of the shadows. They stream out from under the table and blanket the room in less than a heartbeat, devouring all traces of light. Panic skitters down the silver bond."
Iron Flame:
⚡️Chapter 36: "He steps forward, raises his arms, and shadows rush in from the wall at our backs, engulfing the formation - and us - in complete darkness. Theres a glimmer of a caress across my cheek, right where it's split to what feels like the bone, and more than one cadet screams."
-> The structure of the first sentence, the emphasis on 'and us' is what clued me into the fear in this chapter. And once again Xaden, who is also the source of the darkness, uses the shadows to comfort her. Based on Ch 19 and Ch 27 of Fourth Wing he likely knows she's scared of the dark at this point.
Noooowwwwww - What does all this mean? Well.... I have no idea!
As mentioned before it might mean nothing at all. Rebecca might have just thrown it in there as a quirky personality trait of Violet's. I personally just don't think that's the case.
According to a study done by John Mayer (the clinical psychologist, not the singer) only 11% of adults in the US are scared of the dark. So, its not that common of a fear. Also the amount of times it's brought up throughout the two books we've had so far makes me think it might be significant.
On July 8th Rebecca Yarros and Red Tower Books released a joint Instagram reel with a small video showing the cover of Onyx Storm for the first time. The caption has the tag line "Are you ready to BRAVE THE DARK?" written just like that with 'brave the dark' in all caps. 'Brave the Dark' is also written on the cover of the book in the same way 'Fly or Die' and 'Burn it Down' was used as a tag line of FW and IF respectively. This is another one of the most prominent reasons I think that these allusions to Violets fear of the dark are more than just a basic character trait. In each of the scenes mentioned (with the exception of chapter 1) Xaden comforts Violet in the darkness. Furthermore, if you search 'dark' in the FW ebook there are over 80 occurrences of the word and almost all of them are in relation to Xaden (I couldn't search IF because I don't have the ebook). We know that OS is going to focus on Violet trying to find a cure for Xaden. Is Xaden part of this darkness Violet is scared of?
The Empyrean Series is my current hyper fixation so I couldn't get this spiral out of my head since yesterday.
Please weigh in on what you think Violets fear of the dark means or where it comes from! I'd love to hear other peoples opinions. Also, if you know of any scenes I missed where Violet is scared of the dark please let me know.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk TairnTalk. (I stole that from someone else but I can't remember who said it first but credit to them you are hilarious).

Prologue Translation Changes: The Living Past pt.2
This is the important one since translation changes to how Vertin describes the Storm (potential lore implications?)
Tumblr media
These changes were made during 1.8 patch
(again image is the new translation, below is the original and notes)
Tumblr media
(original) - "From the countdown to the millennium, the exposition of the supernova in the 80s, to the unveiling of VHS"
Right this not only clarifies that the First Storm of 1999 had reversed to the 80s. (The Manus only start to influence Storms in 1929, before then all of these were 'natural')
The "Supernova in the 1980s" is the first supernova (SN 1987A) discovered that year, being the first supernova that modern astronomers were able to study in detail (thank you wikipedia). Observed independently by Ian Shelton and Oscar Duhalde at the Las Campranas Observatory in Chile on the Feb 24 1987 (I will leave this here)
Tumblr media
(og) - "I never met them again" (the new line hurts more)
Tumblr media
(og) - "In an accident" changed to "At one point"
Tumblr media
(og) - "Maybe I should just record the time and spend no feelings on what I see" (again line changed just hurts more)
(Parallels to Gatsby in this new line, Nick desired to be "silent, emotionless observer" in Gatsby's narrative, but here Vertin does not desire to be this way)
Tumblr media
(og) - "There is someone that ... can see what I see in this world so..."
Tumblr media
(og) - "For the last time" (hammers home this is Vertin's last hope in a sense, who knows what would of happened had Regulus been reversed like everyone else)
Tumblr media
(og) - "Whoa, whats up?" (Again Regulus is more panicked and distressed in this redub, makes sense since her world has been turned upside down)
Tumblr media
(og) - "leaving no sign of you after the 'Storm'" (the change carries that emotional importance of Regulus to Vertin, she unlike many other had survived and Vertin had not failed again)
Tumblr media
(og) - "On top of that" is omitted here
This last bit of the prologue is interesting in its changes, alot does emphasise Vertin's character here: this is independent of the Foundation's wishes and it is her own desire to seek the Truth of the Storm.
(There's is a lot of emphaise to showcase that Vertin is not a self-insert here more, she has her own goals and motivations in the story independent to the player even if they align, both narratively and metanarratively)
So far I do not think Chapters One and Two have received optimisation yet, potentially they may add either with Windsong or 1.9. AlthoughI have noticed in Chapter Two in streams around the global launch, a certain "addio" later in more recent months have been translated in text to "goodbye".

if u dont feel like writing this its absolutely fine to ignore but . i have to cuddle with prowl. for the love of god im dyubf
HI dundeey, I do hope this is what you were looking for. A nice sweet cuddle with that silly little bot you love so much. Sorry its short, but I didn't wanna drag it out. This can be read with any Prowl. Enjoy your day!!! :)
Pairing: Prowl x Reader
Warnings: none
The cold air of the living room seemed to nip harder than you expected it too. You just wanted to watch the latest episode of of ‘Keeping up with the Primes’, yet you couldn’t focus on the tv from how fucking cold it was. You had already gotten up to change the temperature, it now sat at 81 degrees, out of fear of burning your house down. Even with that the air out of the vent keeps its steady feel of 46. Now you have to take extra steps to stop this freeze, standing up with your blanket draped around your shoulders, a hand holding it together at your chest. Your eyes landing on the vent that pointed right at you, it’s attached to the ceiling taunting your smaller frame. You squinted at it, calculating if you want to risk standing on a chair to close it, and by calculating you meant thinking about the seven dumbest ways to die by falling off a chair. It didn’t matter, you turned walking off towards anything that could heighten you up to the vent.
Your blanket flared out from the swiftness of your movement, your hands found the back of a chair. Draggin it with you to the vent in your living room, placing it under the vent. You shook the chair, seeing its stability before stepping up on the seat. Carefully you stood, hand out as you looked down, your knees straightened, head jolting up to look at the dan of your existences. The vent is open and still blowing that freezing air. Your free hand came up to close it, moving the flap directors the opposite way, watching as the vents closed leaving no space or air to come out. At least not directly at your spot on the couch. You sighed, happy the vent could no longer terrorize you from below.
“What are you doing?”
The voice catching you off guard, you almost fell. Your knees folding and bringing you down as you tightly gripped the back of the chair. You were met with the cobalt optics of Prowl, A confused look on his face plating as he stared. You opened your mouth to speak, but your teeth chattered in the process. You just hummed, brows creasing as you thought of how to fix your current problem, your freezing house. You got off the chair, flopping on the couch and wrapping the extra fabric of your blanket around you. You met with his optics still looking at you in confusion. They looked at everything else as well, the tv, the chair, the now closed vent. He wanted to know the cause of your problems, but with no answer for his lover, he simply can’t help or fix it.
You got enough warmth in your system to speak to him.
“Cold,”
He smiled, letting out a little chuckle before walking away. He was checking the thermostat, but unlucky for him, you’ve already done that. He comes back with an extra blanket instead, a puzzled look on his face as he sat down next to you.
“Weird, you have the thermostat on 80.”
He said, his sentence trailing off when you glued yourself to his side. Watching as the mech fun folded the blanket and put most of it over you. An arm wrapping around your shoulder, pulling you closer to him. He was warmer than you though, a welcoming change from the cold air that seemed to penetrate your blanket. Now you could really warm up, even better if you were with your lover. Your hands grabbed at his plating, pulling yourself as close as you possibly could. You heard him chuckle, his servos grabbing at your waist before he pulled you into his lap. Your head resting perfectly on his chassis, your legs on either side of his stabilizing servos. His servos pulled the blanket over your back, tucking the end of the fabric between your skin and the couch cushion. Securing you in a cocoon on his lap. His servos soon found their place on your back, pulling your close to him.
“Are you feeling warmer yet, Sweetspark?”
All you could do was nod, your eyelids getting heavier as you warmed up in the lap of your mech lover. His servos started to rub you back, doing nothing but beckon you closer and closer to sleep. He placed a kiss on your crown before he spoke.
“That’s it, just take you a nice little nap. I’ll keep you warm, my sweet little spark.”

Dancing in the Street
Willard Hewitt x Fem!Reader; Ren McCormack x Sister!Reader
Warning(s): Just general stuff in the movie. If you’ve seen it you should be fine. Also the reader doesn’t like Ariel so if you like her, sorry.
Request(s):
I lost all these asks trying to answer them so idk what happened I’m sorry.
1) Hi hi hi, I was wondering if you could write a Willard x reader fic from the 2011 footloose? I'm having Miles Teller brain rot and cannot stop thinking about him!! 💕💕✨
2)  Can I get a Willard Hewitt x reader where your Rens sister and you guys meet at school then is really impressed you and your brother dance so good at the diner plssss?? I love Willard
3)  hi!! i was wondering if you could write something for willard hewitt (footloose 2011)? i can not find a single fanfic for this man so if you could write something with fluff and maybe like best friends to lovers that would be so awesome! thank you so much :)
Notes: Hope you guys are happy. I had to watch the Footloose remake to do this fic. The remake. It’s...not good.
Anyway, first footloose fic! Yay! I hope you like even if it’s ridiculously short.
Tumblr media
When you agreed to move down to Bomont with your brother, you didn’t think it would be as shitty as it was.
You’d already lost your mom, you didn’t need the rest of the joy in your life sucked out, but apparently the town was looking to do just that.
No music? No dancing? Are you kidding? Isn’t that against the first amendment or something?
Apparently not, as it seemed this rinky-dink town hadn’t changed its views since the ‘80s.
You worked as a waitress at Starlite and Ren was stuck in a cotton gin. The school hated Ren’s guts and didn’t take too kindly to your “explicit and vulgar display” of band t-shirts. Plus that plus prissy little Ariel Moore made you wanna hurl, even if Ren was infatuated with her for some god-knows reason.
It wasn’t all bad. You helped Ren fix up the yellow bug and he drove you to school every day, not that you had another choice besides maybe walking.
And there was also Willard. The ray of sunshine through the cloud of darkness in all his southern glory.
You guys met him the first day of school and the three of you meshed right away. You told him when Ren was bullshitting him and he explained what all of his crazy phrases meant.
You weren’t sure you were into him “like that” yet, but you’d heard Ren smack him upside the head for commenting on your looks once, which told you enough.
And, lucky for you, Woody’s uncle, Claude, was a pretty rebellious boss.
“Hey, Woody!” Claude said. “Check the door man. Cop still here?”
Ren and you exchanged a glance as Woody went over to the window to watch the cop pull away.
“Five-O getting his move on,” Woody reported. “Whatcha got for me, Uncle Claude?”
Claude reached down below the counter and pulled up a burner CD. “David Banner, bootleg. Don’t get too krunk out there. First sign of the police, I’m gonna pull the plug. I don’t want a fine and you don’t want another ticket.”
“Wait,” Ren said. “You got a ticket for dancing?”
“He got two tickets for dancing,” Woody’s girlfriend answered. “One more and he’s off the team.”
You followed Claude to the back where he had a record player that doubled as a CD player. Your mouth dropped open in awe.
“All right, let’s get this party started,” Claude said.
He flipped some switches that turned on the outside speakers and turned back to you.
“Now, I know you’re new here so I’ll let you go watch this one time,” he said. “But don’t expect me to let you off work just to dance.”
You grinned widely before practically tearing off your apron to follow Ren, Rusty, and Willard outside.
The speakers were like old drive-in speakers that blared in the parking lot and you watched in awe as the previously perceived boring small-town kids danced better than you could.
“Yeah, dude, they- they get into it,” Willard said.
"Hey, you,” a girl said to Ren. “Come on, let’s dance.”
She pulled him out onto the floor and you watched gleefully as he busted a move.
“You dance, Willard?” You asked.
He blushed a little, shaking his head. “Oh, no, no way.”
“Why not?”
He shrugged. “I don’t dance.”
You rolled your eyes.
“Me and my boys are going to push everybody back,” Woody said to Ren over the music, pulling his leather jacket right off his shoulders. “Let me see you and your sister do your city slicker thing.”
Ren jogged over to usher you in with him and you happily obliged.
“Number 24,” Ren said and you nodded.
You both fell into a dance you’d choreographed together back in Boston, moving easily to the beat and doing your “city slicker thing.”
You shared a quick glance, a silent communication, before you both ran up and backflipped off the edge of a blue pickup sitting on the edge of the dance area.
The crowd cheered.
You laughed, falling into freestyle mode with the others as Ren walked over to dance by Ariel (who looked eager to receive the basically lap dance he was offering).
You felt alive for the first time since your mom. You missed dancing.
That was until you spotted Ariel and Ren grinding on each other shamelessly.
“Oh, gross,” you said, turning away and spotting Willard, who was already looking at you.
You flicked your head, gesturing for him to come join you.
He just shook his head and saluted you with his coke cup.
You sighed and walked over to where he was gathered with Woody, his girlfriend, and Rusty.
“Mind if I have a sip of that?” You asked Willard.
“Oh, uh, sure,” he replied, handing you his cup. “That was some pretty good dancing out there.”
“How would you know, you don’t dance,” you joked.
“I got two eyes, don’t I?” He asked, grinning right back at you.
You two were leaned so close you felt his breath on your face. It made your stomach flutter.
“Y/N, I was wondering-”
“You can put on a show for that guy, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna.”
You both looked over to find Ren walking up to the group.
You and Willard leaned away from each other.
Ren’s jaw was so tight you thought he might crack his teeth.
“That guy block your boner?” You joked, referencing a joke Willard made a few days ago.
“Shut up,” he replied, shoving your head away jokingly.
Suddenly, the music cut out and Claude came over the loud speaker. “Attention, Attention. Ariel Moore, will you please come up to the front of the diner, your daddy is here for you.”
The crowd sniggered and laughed as “daddy’s girl” stomped her way up to the diner.
“Show’s over,” she said as she passed your group.
Your face contorted.
“Daddy’s gonna take her out to the woodshed,” Willard said.
“What the hell does that mean?”
“It means she’s in deep shit.”
You bit your lip to keep from laughing.
“Come on, loverboy,” you said, shoving your brother. “Let’s get home before we get picked up by the law at ten o’ one. Oh, and Willard,”
The boy in questioned looked up at you.
“We can finish our conversation tomorrow, okay?”
He smiled. “Yeah, alright,”
You grinned back and turned away from him.
Ren’s eyes narrowed at you. “What was that all about?”
You shrugged. “Nothing. Willard and I were having a conversation while you were feeling up the preacher’s daughter.”
“I was not feeling her up,”
“Oh, please, Ren, the whole parking lot could tell,” You replied, sipping the last of Willard’s drink you’d never given back. “You’re practically throwing yourself at her.”
“I was just dancing,” Ren retorted, pulling open the door to the bug.
“Funny, you never dance like that with me.”
“That’s because-” Ren huffed dramatically. “You know what, this conversation’s over.”
“Oh, I’m sure it is,” you replied, getting in the passenger side. “Can I pick the music?”
“Can you ever pick the music?”
“No?”
“There’s your answer.”
You rolled your eyes as Ren picked “dancing in the dark” by Bruce Springsteen for the ride home.
You turned to look out the window, noticing Willard in the rearview talking to Woody.
You smiled. This town might suck, but Willard makes it more bearable.

Just finished IWTV book, so now I can say the differences between the book, movie, and show. The movie is quite accurate to the book, while the show is more original. I love them all quite a lot, but I think the show is my favorite since it's the most romantic. Long post with spoilers below the cut.
book:
The depth of Louis' interiority, especially his thoughts about religion, can only be found in the book. I am also ex-Catholic so this is high-key my shit. Especially knowing Anne Rice went back and forth later in life. I can relate. Louis wants to talk about his feelings with other vampires, but Lestat and Claudia aren't interested, which is the main reason Louis is attracted to Armand. Where is the Brideshead Revisited crossover?? Louis get in a bisexual love triangle with the Flytes for me🙏
I learned in the Matt Baume video on Anne Rice that she wrote IWTV while grieving her daughter, who died of leukemia just before her sixth birthday. This feeling of grief, reflected so clearly in Claudia, is the most moving and unique aspect of the book, far more than anything between the adult characters.
One reason this feeling is watered-down in both adaptations is that in the book, Claudia is only 5/6, the age of Anne's real daughter. In the movie she is 10 and in the show 14. Of course it would be impossible to find a 6 year old actress who could act with the maturity of an 80-year-old woman. But the character is even more pitiful and bizarre as a little child than as one nearing puberty.
In the book, Lestat is shown to have survived the murder attempt pretty early on, and he keeps jump-scaring Louis and Claudia on their adventures. I prefer the movie's version where they hold off on this reveal. Though of course I always love to see him, lol
In the book, I got the impression that Lestat and Louis are both bi, but Lestat prefers men and Louis prefers women. Still, their motivations aren't driven by sexuality in a straightforward way. For example, Lestat's ideal prey is a young man, because he loves to destroy their potential. Louis feels something like love for a few women characters, because he feels empathy for their misfortunes.
The adaptations soften/change Louis' status as a slave-owner; in the movie, he frees his slaves, and in the book he just flees. As much as Louis is a soft-hearted quasi-feminist, defined by his guilt and regret, he is still racist and close-minded in most ways. This seems realistic to me.
I did think it was interesting and cool that the enslaved people can tell Louis and Lestat aren't human, while the other plantation owners and even Lestat's dad have no idea. But we don't get their perspective, just Louis' racist assumptions.
Yeah in the book Lestat has a dad! It is rather confusing since Lestat explains nothing, but it creates some great melodrama. I guess I have to read the next one and hope for a backstory reveal.
Fun spooky detour into Eastern Europe! I hope the show goes there in season 2.
Louis and Armand's discussions are really cool. I especially loved Louis' monologues after Claudia's death. There wasn't room for these discussions in the movie, but I feel like it'll be a main focus in season 2 of the show.
movie:
Like I said, the movie is impressively accurate, and a beautiful work of art on its own. The best innovation is holding off on the Lestat reveal until almost the very end. This makes it look like their murder attempt really did a number on him, and it took decades and decades of rat-eating to even drag himself out of the swamp. I like that.
The movie also has a more exciting and ridiculous ending, in which Lestat attacks the reporter in his car and drives away to Guns N' Roses. The book ends with the reporter hurrying off to find Lestat himself. It's funnier and more awesome if Lestat is the one driving the plot and the car. Pleased to meet you :D
"How avant-garde." Best line in the movie, and it's not from the book!
Since the movie cut out most of the minor characters, there isn't as much evidence for Louis' bisexuality. Louis seems more like, gay but closeted. And Lestat seems more like, gay but misogynist, so he'll prey on women just for sport lol.
I'm a Fight Club guy so I love that this is, like, a reverse companion movie (this time, Brad Pitt is the pushover in a dangerous gay duo)
show:
This is the only version that is clearly gay. But this dynamic is the same: Louis wants to talk about things, and Lestat does not. In this case, the focus of these discussions is not vampirism or religion but their relationship. Louis points out that he is gay and Lestat is bi. Perhaps it's just because I saw this version first, but this is my favorite version of their sexualities. The show simply spends more time with this dynamic, and how it affects everything, including their interracial relationship and openness in society.
In the book, Lestat is a talented but soulless musician. He can play anything, but without heart. In the show, music is Lestat's one genuine connection to humanity (even if this connection just leads him to kill musicians who don't impress him). I believe later books go more into Lestat as a musician, so I'll have more thoughts on this later.
Since the reporter is cynical, old, and dying, this creates a much more compelling conversation within the framing device. He holds Louis to task with a forcefulness that rivals Lestat. It is a clever way of modernizing the story, since Daniel references their last interview in the 70s (when the book was published), and you are meant to wonder which version is more truthful.
Since Claudia is 14, she can pass as an adult, and she is able to go on her own rather disastrous adventure. It is exciting, terrifying, and sad, and a welcome addition for this character, though it is much different than the book's helpless, heartless Claudia.
The Catholicism in the show is flashier, but not as interesting as the book. For example, in the book, Louis is haunted not just by Paul's death, but Louis' failure to meet Paul's faith-driven monetary demands. In the show, Paul's ideas seem like more of an annoyance. Maybe there will be more religious doubt in season 2, but I don't really expect it.
In the book, it seems like Louis and Claudia throw Lestat in the swamp since it's faster and more thorough than fire. In the show, the oven they use is a major plot point, and Louis can't bear to put Lestat's body in it because he still loves him. Instead they throw Lestat in the trash, which is one of my favorite tropes (see: Maul in The Clone Wars, Soldier 1998). This is just one of the many ways the show complicates and deepens Louis and Lestat's bond.
I feel like the show is more believable and has more deepness in general, since it's a smart retrospective on an old franchise and a response to decades of vampire fun in pop culture. For example, in the show Louis has volunteer humans to feast upon, and it's very "safe, sane, and consensual," versus the universally predatory relationships in the book and movie. Because we all know now that if vampires were real, and they were hot and rich, they could get all the blood they want without hurting anyone. An ethical vampire like Louis isn't impossible anymore. Compared to other billionaires, he's a pretty decent guy.
So, I'd say the book has the most profound perspective on grief, the movie has better structure, and the show has the most complex romance.

Shang tsung bathing hcs x reader.

Cw:nsfw,fluff,maybe some angst?
*NOTE: THIS IS CARY HIROYUKI TAGAWA SHANG TSUNG SPECIFICALLY. MK11/MK1995 SHANG TSUNG. So no damn faker mk12 shang tsung allowed*
Hcs below cut cuz of nsfw content.
Reader is gn ( i try to make these gn if i can)
🐍💚🐍💚🐍💚🐍💚🐍💚🐍💚🐍💚🐍💚🐍
Shang tsung bathing hcs:
Shang tsung prefers showers if he is just needing to clean up. Because one,it's healthier and easier for him. And two he just likes to take quick warm showers most of the time. However it doesn't mean anything. He sometimes with do either or hot, warm, cold. But he prefers warm
Shang tsung will do baths if he's trying to relax or soak or take his time. Especially if he's with you.
He loves the feel of the warm water next to you. He finds it peaceful.
He definitely does the works tho. Bubbles, oils, salts, soaks, etc.
And after a bath he also definitely either body oils up or body butters himself.
He loves smelling good. And loves you smelling good too.
If you need privacy and don't wish to bathe with him. He will respect that too
As for himself if he needs privacy he will tell you right away beforehand.
Shang tsung will drink wine and bathe. He prefers dark reds buuuut occasionally he'll have a white dry wine or even a sweet wine. Especially if you are with him. But shang already loves the sweetness you bring in your company. The wine just doesn't do justice on that. ;3
He will also eat fruit in the bath. Like this man is the definition of luxurious and living deliciously.
As for grooming habits. He likes to keep himself well trimmed and groomed. He shaved almost completely. But if he wants to leave a bit of hair. He'll leave a lil treasure trail if anything. His balls are smooth tho. A nice trimmed beard too.
Shang has and will fuck in the bath. If you want a quickie it's in the shower. But if you want him to play, take his time, and enjoy every inch of you? He'll fuck you in his private bathing quarters. (Yes his bathroom is modernish. He's not a damn heathen ok you weirdos. Lol. Maybe a bit looking like a 70s/80s/90s Chinese gothic dad vibe but hey. It's modern enough).
He feels this is one of the few times he can let his walls down. You'll get to see a very very somft shang tsung. If The sorcerer trusts you that much. You are lucky af.
He loves to bath you. He doesn't mind receiving in return. In fact he loves being pampered (spoiled lil shit he is. But we love him) but he prefers to actually pamper you more! Besides he loves washing your hair or massaging your scalp. Washing your beautiful body. Taking care with every single touch.
He will even dry you off. Never lifting a single finger. Wrapping a robe or a large towel around you. Picking you up bridal style. Carries you to your shared bed. May or may not finish loving on you there. Depending on your moods.
But either way. Shang loves bathing time with you. It's a very simple but sweet moment.
Shang's sweet side. Is his best side. And you're the lucky one to ever get to see it 💖
Hopefully you guys like these. Sorry if its short and not as organized as i usually try to do it. But it's on the fly while i have the spoons to write.
But i hope this gives you some good food.
💖

Pavitr Prabhakar: The Design
Pavitr Prabhakar my beloved!
I love him. I absolutely love Pavitr and everything about him. And the best thing about him, other than his everything, is his design. So let's get to it!
PART 1: THE MASK
He was so cool and such a total sunshine but the most striking aspect was the immaculate design. Huge upgrade on his old model which was pretty much just a normal spider-suit with a white dhoti, which, not gonna lie, was just disappointing and underwhelming. But they went off on Pavitr's design in the movie and everyone's talking about it so let's also talk about it.
First of all,
LOOK AT MY BOY!!!
Tumblr media
Just look at that design! So cool! So awesome! And so so Desi!!!
Its these desi aspects that I want to shed light on cos I know there are non-Indian fans who didn't catch a lot of the nuances cos they're not familiar enough with Indian culture and even Indian fans who didn't know about some details cos they aren't from the areas the inspiration for these elements were drawn from.
Mainly I hope to help artists and writers with this, so they have more information to create with, as well as the casual fans so they have more info and can immerse themselves better as well as appreciate just how much effort went into making this spectacular movie.
This might be a long post with me just rambling away so braze yourself people.
So lets get into it.
{WARNING: Infodump incoming}
First, lets start with the Mask
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So here we have two different angles of his mask. The most prominent features of his mask are his eyes. There is a multi-layer outline for them in black, blue, red, and white, which of course are the classic spiderman colours but never quite used like this. Usually there is only a single outline in shades of, or adjacent colours of black, red, or white.
(Disclaimer: I'm not a 100% sure of this being actually the inspo behind the eyes. I'm pretty sure though, like 80%. So this has not been confirmed.)
The design for his eyes reminded me of one specific thing:
Koodiyattam, which is a 2000 year old ancient temple artform from the southern Indian state of Kerala. Koodiyattam is not just the only surviving Sanskrit theatre in the world, but it also includes elements of koothu, from the Sangam era, the golden age of Tamizh culture, and thus was declared by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Below is a picture of a Koodiyattam performer.
Tumblr media
Instantly you'll realize that this is a costume drama, with extensive makeup, and complicated dress, especially with regards to the headgear, and is overall similar to the Beijing opera, not in terms of make or design or performance, but rather in elaborateness of ensemble. Japanese art forms like Noh or Kabuki could also come to mind along with certain Balinese dances.
Here is another photo which will give you a better look.
Tumblr media
Notice the layered eye makeup in black, red, and white.
Here we have a closeup of a different performer where you can see it even more clearly.
Tumblr media
The first time I saw Pavitr's eyes on screen, this is what immediately came to my mind as someone interested in traditional theaters of all kinds. Notice that Koodiyattam extensively uses reds and blacks, along with whites, which is also the colour palette that most spiderpeople choose, which is a cool coincidence. Blue is not that heavily used unlike the others however, but you can see it more in some costumes but generally not in makeup.
If we're talking less of what it reminded me of and more in terms of what the actual inspiration for the eye design probably was, it was most likely Kathakali, Koodiyattam's much younger, more well known, and very popular relative.
Tumblr media
As you can see, Kathakali took its cues for costuming from Koodiyattam. (Actually it took its costuming cues from earlier art forms called Krishnattam, and Ramanattam, but they took it from Koodiyattam so it works.)
Again you can see the layered eye makeup, most prominently in black. (Cool fact, the costume and makeup changes according to the characters being portrayed on stage.)
Below is a picture of a Kathakali character with more elaborate eye makeup.
Tumblr media
(I know a lot of you might think its the same makeup as Koodiyattam but I promise you its not. Inspired yes, same no.)
Because of the elaborate makeup and costume, expression can be a challenge so the art forms make maximum use of exaggerated body movements, hand signs, dance, lyrics etc. But the crowning element of acting in Koodiyattam and Kathakali are the eye techniques and how much simple eye movements can convey to the audience, which if you think about it, is also the case for spider-people. They're the most expressive superheroes in any medium, but they're fully covered so a lot of their expressiveness, both in comics and animation is conveyed through the shape of the eyes, body language, and speech. Another cool coincidence.
Below is a link to a short video which gives an brief overview of Kathakali and the importance of eyes in its performance.
youtube
This second link is a closeup of the eye movements of a female Kathakali character (women characters are called 'Minukku'). It shows how these highly trained artists can even move their eyes according to music. I have been told this can be uncomfortable to watch for some people so here's a warning for those who find eyeballs discomfiting.
youtube
And finally this one right here is a link to a short video on Koodiyattam.
youtube
{All three of these links are mainly aimed at people who find this sort of stuff interesting and want to check them out so if you're not, you can scroll past it, no big deal!}
(Oh man this is getting way too long and more like me gushing about traditional theatre than spiderman. Sorry about that.)
Now lets get back to our boy Pavitr. The second most noticeable feature of his mask is the curved, white line underneath his eyes, which gives off the impression of tusks. The first two pictures on this post already show the lines quite clearly but I'll attach one more angle.
Tumblr media
Something that immediately came to mind when I saw them was Theyyam but I wasn't sure until I saw this post.
Tumblr media
This was the same account that talked about how Pavitr's movements are inspired from Kalaripayattu so I was inclined to trust this. And after this one of the animators did confirm this so I was right on the money.
What exactly is Theyyam?
It is an ancient Hindu folk ritual practiced in northern Kerala, predominantly in the North Malabar region. Its origins can be traced back to the neolithic and chalcolithic eras. And unlike Koodiyattam and Kathakali which are associated with temples and the Koothambalam(temple theatre where temple artforms are performed), Theyyam is performed in the open air in Kaavu, the sacred groves of Kerala. The Theyyam performers become channels and vessels for the gods. Connect this to the 'Great Weaver'/ 'Master Weaver' who gave Pavitr his powers.
(Btw, these sacred groves are also ecological treasure troves and one of the ancient ways of nature preservation and they're really cool so check them out if you can.)
Below are two images of different Theyyams.
Tumblr media
[Puliyoor Kali Theyyam]
Tumblr media
[Porrkali Theyyam]
See that on the cheeks? It resembles Pavitr's design closely right? While Pavitr's are drawn on his mask, these are singular metallic pieces, bound or clutched in the mouth to evoke the imagery and impression of tusks.
Theyyam is not alone in this particular imagery. A variety of folk arts use this, especially animism and folk rituals to show animal physical characteristics, as well as supernatural powers and elements.
For example, below is an image of Thirayttam, a ritual folk practice from the South Malabar region of Kerala. You can see the tusks here too. (Its not that clear, sorry about that.)
Tumblr media
{Reminder: A lot of people think of Theyyam and Thirayattam as the same thing. While there are many similarities, with both being from the Malabar region, they are different practices. Theyyam is also called Tiṟa, and this is the main cause of the confusion but its not Thirayattam.}
Another example is Kalamezhuthu pattu, another religious folk art from Kerala. Mainly associated with the worship of the goddess Badhrakali, it is a sacred floor art done with powder and the result is called a Kalam. Below is a picture of a Kalam.
Tumblr media
See those tusks? Yeah.
So they represent divinity, animal characteristics, inhuman powers etc.
[Interesting Info: Drawing Kalams are an integral part of Mudiyettu, a traditional ritual theatre and folk dance drama from Central Kerala. It is inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. So do check it out if you're interested.]
{Oh my god I'm going off topic again. Come back bitch.}
To conclude, those lines are inspired by Theyyam markings, and stand for tusks and fangs, and as a spiderperson, who has the powers of a spider, gifted by some spiritual channel, its really apt that he was given such a design.
Next, lets talk about the lower half of Pavitr's mask.
Tumblr media
See those delicate red webs underneath the eyes?
This also reminded me of Theyyam. Its overshadowed by the more vibrant aspects of the costume, but a Theyyam's face has these intricate red patterns as well.
Tumblr media
(Look at those eyes, reminds you of Pavitr's eye design right?)
And as you can see in this next image, after the headgear is put on, the designs mainly concentrate on the lower half of the face, much like Pavitr's mask.
Tumblr media
I admit I might be stretching this as web designs on the mask is a spiderman thing in general but I think I'm the pretty much on the dot on this one, and most likely its a combination of both.
[A 100% sure about that tusk thing though :)]
Also sometimes Theyyams would have these metallic eye coverings.
Tumblr media
[Muchilot Baghavati Theyyam]
A closer look.
Tumblr media
This is just my opinion but those silver eye masks kind of reminded me of the classic Spiderman eyes. Single colour, pupil-less, black outline, no idea how they see out of it etc. This one in particular reminded me of the classic spiderman especially with the eyes outlined in black like that.
Overall, the tusks, plus the thin web design on the mask, and the eyes, the spiderman red colour palette, they all evoked the image of Theyyam for me when I first saw Pavitr on screen.
{There is a very similar art form to Theyyam called Bhootakola in the coastal region of Karnataka, another southern Indian state. Those curious about Theyyam can check out the Kannada movie Kantara which deals with Bhootakola and you'll get an idea about Theyyam as well. The movie is awesome by the way. Watch it if you can.)
(This is getting way too long and image heavy. And I'm also going off tangent too much. Gotta wrap this up!)
Finally lets talk the last aspect of Pavitr's mask. This might actually be the feature that most of the non-Indian audience identified as Indian without anyone pointing it out.
I'm talking about the white, diamond shaped marking on Pavitr's forehead.
Tumblr media
This decorative marking, bindi/pottu/tilaku, might actually be the most recognizable aspect of Indian culture across the world.
If you scroll back to all the previous images I provided, you can see some variation of this in all of them, either drawn on, or as an ornament. While there are some cultural differences in how they're worn, like women in southern India wearing them in all stage of life while their northern counterparts wear them only after marriage(I could be wrong about this, as I've seen children wearing them often, and things could've changed in modern times so please do correct me if I'm wrong), its one of the most common motifs you'll see across the country.
It can be a simple, round mark.
Tumblr media
It can be ornamented.
Tumblr media
It can be a different shape altogether.
Tumblr media
(From the musical sequence 'Pinga' in the Hindi film Bajirao Mastani)
A different colour.
Tumblr media
You get the idea.
Men can wear it as well. though styles and decoration maybe different.
Tumblr media
(From the Tamizh film Ponniyin Selvan 1)
A more modern version.
Tumblr media
Geography wise, the bindi/pottu/tilak is predominantly seen in India, but its also found in other countries of the Indian subcontinent and neighbouring nations, as well as South-East Asia(as they were both part of the ancient Indosphere and had a past of Hindu Kingdoms. See: Srivijaya(Sriwijaya) empire, Indonesia).
Similar forehead markings were even common in China in the past. Those who have seen wuxia and xianxia dramas and movies definitely have seen them before and know what I'm talking about. (Huadian 花鈿)
Religion wise, its predominantly a Hindu motif, but its also part of Buddhist, Jain, Sikh, as well as several other indigenous religions.
{I've actually seen several Indian Christians and Muslims wear it as well, because its their culture, even if its not their religion.}
EDIT: Gaaaaah! I forgot to include this even though I'd intended to from the beginning.
This is not about the mask but some of the prototype designs for Pavitr so I thought I'll just talk about them a bit here.
Tumblr media
Again I can't believe all the effort that went into making this movie. Just look at those designs. Absolutely stellar and inspired. The colour palette itself is amazing.
Honestly everyone else just has no excuse anymore.
[I'll focus on the theatre aspect like I've been doing and talk about the architecture bit sometime else.]
This one is obviously the Theyyam inspired one.
Tumblr media
(Look at the eyes of 4 and 3, you can see they're inspired by the silver eye-mask I mentioned before. Also the headband is silver and looks similar to the bands securing a theyyam's headgear in place.)
A lot more Theyyam elements than what made it to the final cut. Especially the jewellery and the sharp-eyed among you must've already noticed the similarity between the necklaces of the design and the necklaces of the theyyams whose images I provided. The bangles and the anklets are also very distinctively Theyyam and they're called Katakam and Chutakam respectively but the final design seems to have made the bangles gold and more bracelet-like, and the anklets more like ankle-cuffs.
(I so badly wish the necklace stayed in but yeah that could've hindered movement.)
Now lets come to the Yakshagana inspired one.
Tumblr media
(Notice how the shape of the eyes have changed? And the colour palette took a turn? A lot more gold coming in.)
Yakshagana is a form of traditional theatre originating in modern day Karnataka state of India, and currently practiced in both Karnataka and Kerala. It is primarily an art form from the coastal Karnataka region and the neighbouring Kasargod district of Kerala.
Below is a link to more information on Yakshagana so you can take a look at the costuming and see the influences in the above prototype more clearly.
(I'm not gonna go into detail about all the design choices in the Yakshagana prototype, maybe in another post.)
Now lets come to the final prototype.
Tumblr media
(Again the colour palette has shifted, a lot more greens and blues. I do believe that 8 is koothu and not Yakshagana even though it was included in the image above. I say that because of all the white in the design which is very distinctive of a kind of koothu as far as I'm aware.)
I actually already mentioned koothu once before in this post when I was talking about Koodiyattam in the very beginning. So lets go back to it.
Koothu is a folk theatre art that originated in early Tamizh country(Tamizhakam), and broadly speaking, its of two types, Terrukuttu, and Kattaikkuttu. It reached its peak in the golden age of Tamizh culture, the Sangam era and it mainly depicts scene from the epics. Currently types of Koothu are practiced in modern day Tamil Nadu and Kerala(Kerala was once part of ancient Tamizhakam).
Below is a link that will give you more info and an image of the costume with makeup similar to 6.
And this one is a link to a particular kind of koothu in Kerala known as Chakyar Koothu cos all the white on the make of prototype version 8 reminded me of it. (Also Chakyar Koothu is a form of social satire and criticism, it was basically ancient Stand-up comedy and the Chakyar is supposed to be really witty, which fits Spiderman to a T I gotta say.)
Again I'm not gonna go into further details and nuances of the design as this is a prototype design, maybe some other time. But I have to say that this colour palette does make Pavitr a lot more spideresque or evoke a more primal spider energy cos how it connects the viewer to jungle like and more animalistic environments more than the other designs.
And that's it for the mask and the prototypes everybody! Yay!
Holy shit that was long!
I'm gonna stop here for now cos this is already way too much. Can't believe I thought I'd be able to look through the entirety of Pavitr's design in one post. What was I on?
Seriously what kind of drug?
Anyway I'll be making a part 2 for this, looking through Pavitr's clothes and and movements and all. I say Part 2 but considering what happened with the mask I'm pretty sure it might go up to Part 3 or 4. Here's to hoping I learn some moderation by then lol.
(All the images are from google images and I have taken and have credit for exactly none of them. The verbiage is mine completely though.)

Sorry to ask but wtf is the marauders? I only hp films and I'm confused
HARRY POTTER TW BELOW
i was a harry potter nerd ages 8-14 and dipped during the 2018-19 early jkr transphobe era when she was liking tweets about magdalen berns and maya forstater and then going naurrrr it was a mistake i misclicked!! i distinctly remember explaining to a teacher about it and the teacher going "oh idk im sure it was a mistake shes very feminist and charitable" well whos vindicated now. anyway unfortunately i have a lot of lore stuck in my head from when i wrote wattpad fanfiction at 13.
so canonically the marauders are like a nickname that james potter (harry's dad), sirius black (the dog guy), remus lupin (the werewolf guy), and peter pettigrew (the rat one) called themselves when they were at school. they're the ones who made the marauder's map, that magic map that fred n george give harry.
in fandom, the marauders era refers to basically the entire cast of characters who were around during the marauders school years during the 60s and 70s and 80s. eg snape, lily evans (harry's mum), pandora lovegood (luna's mum), regulus black (sirius' brother), and like all the other random ass order of the phoenix and death eaters who happen to be around at that point (marlene mckinnon, mary macdonald, barty crouch jr, evan rosier, etc etc etc)
its all made up and entirely fanon built on top of fanon. its been around for ages, i remember seeing tumblr incorrect quotes reposted on instagram in 2015 like its been FOREVER but it blew up in 2020 during the dark academia tiktok explosion and now its forever ingrained in shitty internet culture.
you would think in a world where half the characters are nazis and the other half are anti nazis that these characters might like hate each other but that's canon and the fandom has about as good a grasp on optics and narrative as the author does. often its just an AU where voldemort doesnt exist and pure-blood supremacy is just window dressing and treated the same as the way sexism/feminism is treated in fandom
i will say a lot of the current hp fandom do disagree with jkr's views and dont engage with anything she's published recently (like the video games n shit) but like a vast majority still do. and sorry making all the characters pansexual and trans to spite jkr does not actually make a meaningful difference in the world but whatever
anyway hope that explains it. and i didnht even get into jegulus...

This normal silence. Silence that only it's supposed to be able to enjoy, but to its surprise! There's three strangers here, and not just any normal strangers. There's in total...
Tumblr media
Oh, this won't do at all! If they stay here, they won't ever get to exist! The non-lives they'll be stuck in! Oh this won't do at ALL!
{Raffle Rules and More Below!}
Shortly after thinking on its options, it had an idea. Maybe it'll find a home for these yet-born stones!
But what would convince peoples to adopt these strange strangers... Oh! Some explanations for what they are:
Stranger 1:
An odd little one, seems like Water/Normal! Whoever the stranger will be have heritage that does not exist in the "normal" world, whatever that is! A true being of purity of water and craftiness, if someone believes in that!
Stranger 2:
This stranger might be a feisty one, looks like Fire/Electric! The species of this one has a mix of a well-known face; yet also of Pokemon that once existed in a realm still in progress. Once upon a time, its ancestor may even traveled with their fiery partner to encouter both familiar and unfamiliar foes...
Stranger 3:
Oh, how interesting, they're also Grass/Steel, ignoring their currently existing counterpart! A being composing of past and future, inconceivably existing as a hybrid of both! The two opposites somehow combining to be an impossible miracle of the Tera caverns...
Oh, now to send out the word!!!!

If the "infertility epidemic" was the first round of fire in the pronatal campaign of the '80s, then the "birth dearth" was the second. At least the leaders of this campaign were more honest: they denounced liberated women for choosing to have fewer of no children. They didn't pretend that they were just neutrally reporting statistics; they proudly admitted that they were seeking to manipulate female behavior. "Most of this small book is a speculation and provocation," Ben Wattenberg freely concedes in his 1987 work, The Birth Dearth. "Will public attitudes change soon, thereby changing fertility behavior?" he asks. "I hope so. It is the root reason for writing this book."
Instead of hounding women into the maternity ward with now-or-never threats, the birth dearth theorists tried appealing to society's baser instincts—xenophobia, militarism, and bigotry, to name a few. If white educated middle-class women don't start reproducing, the birth-dearth men warned, paupers, fools, and foreigners would—and America would soon be out of business. Harvard psychologist Richard Herrnstein predicted that the genius pool would shrink by nearly 60 percent and the population with IQs under seventy would swell by a comparable amount, because the "brighter" women were neglecting their reproductive duties to chase after college degrees and careers—and insisting on using birth control. "Sex comes first, the pains and costs of pregnancy and motherhood later," he harumphed. If present trends continue, he grimly advised, "it could swamp the effects of anything else we may do about our economic standing in the world." The documentation he offered for this trend? Casual comments from some young students at Harvard who seemed "anxious" about having children, grumblings from some friends who wanted more grandchildren, and dialogue from movies like Baby Boom and Three Men and a Baby.
The birth dearth's creator and chief cheerleader was Ben Wattenberg, a syndicated columnist and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, who first introduced the birth dearth threat in 1986 in the conservative journal Public Opinion—and tirelessly promoted it in an endless round of speeches, radio talks, television appearances, and his own newspaper column.
His inflammatory tactics constituted a notable departure from the levelheaded approach he had advocated a decade earlier in his book The Real America, in which he chided population-boom theorists for spreading "souped-up scare rhetoric" and "alarmist fiction." The fertility rate, he said, was actually in slow decline, which he saw then as a "quite salutary" trend, promising more jobs and a higher living standard. The birth dearth, he enthused then, "may well prove to be the single most important agent of a massive expansion and a massive economic upgrading" for the middle class.
Just ten years later, the fifty-three-year-old father of four was sounding all the alarms about this "scary" trend. "Will the world backslide?" he gasped in The Birth Dearth. "Could the Third World culture become dominant?" According to Wattenberg's treatise—subtitled "What Happens When People in Free Countries Don't Have Enough Babies"—the United States would lose its world power status, millions would be put out of work, multiplying minorities would create "ugly turbulence," smaller tax bases would diminish the military's nuclear weapons stockpiles, and a shrinking army would not be able “to deter potential Soviet expansionism.”
When Wattenberg got around to assigning blame, the women's movement served as the prime scapegoat. For generating what he now characterized as a steep drop in the birthrate to "below replacement level," he faulted women's interest in postponing marriage and motherhood, women's desire for advancing their education and careers, women's insistence on the legalization of abortion, and "women's liberation" in general. To solve the problem, he lectures, women should be urged to put their careers off until after they have babies. Nevertheles, he actually maintains, "I believe that The Birth Dearth sets out a substantially pro-feminist view."
Wattenberg's birth dearth slogan was quickly adopted by New Right leaders, conservative social theorists, and presidential candidates, who began alluding in ominous—and racist—tones to "cultural suicide" and "genetic suicide." This threat became the subject of a plank in the political platforms of both Jack Kemp and Pat Robertson, who were also quick to link the fall of the birthrate with the rise in women's rights. Allan Carlson, president of the conservative Rockford Institute, proposed that the best way to cure birth dearth was to get rid of the Equal Pay Act and federal laws banning sex discrimination in employment. At a 1985 American Enterprise Institute conference, Edward Luttwack went even further: he proposed that American policy makers might consider reactivating the pronatal initiatives of Vichy France; that Nazi-collaborationist government's attack on abortion and promotion of total motherhood might have valuable application on today's recalcitrant women. And at a seminar sponsored by Stanford University's Hoover Institution, panelists deplored "the independence of women" for lowering the birthrate and charged that women who refused to have many children lacked "values."
These men were as anxious to stop single black women from procreating as they were for married white women to start. The rate of illegitimate births to black women, especially black teenage girls, was reaching "epidemic" proportions, conservative social scientists intoned repeatedly in speeches and press interviews. The pronatalists' use of the disease metaphor is unintentionally revealing: they considered it an "epidemic" when white women didn't reproduce or when black women did. In the case of black women, their claims were simply wrong. Illegitimate births to both black women and black teenagers were actually declining in the '80s; the only increase in out-of-wedlock births was among white women.

Five Favorite Characters
Tagged by @bitchesgate3 (Thank you! I usually don’t do these things but I’m amped for this one).
Rules: make a poll with five of your all time favorite characters and then tag five people to do the same. See which character is everyone's favorite.
I feel like I should preface my Five Faves with a few disclaimers, so thanks for your patience. More about why below the cut, but the TLDR is: as someone whose demographic and experience is perhaps waaaay out of step with most of current Tumblr, my choices may reflect that. Whatever; I accepted basic middle-aged normie-dom long ago.
I also may have answered this differently during other parts of my life (see honorable mentions below the cut) but this is how I feel right now. If I'm limited to five, I'll make it one for each decade I've been a fan of anything (film, TV, books, games). That gives me, in 80s-90s-00s-10s-20s order, a vengeful drunk, two old men, and two brilliant women:
Tumblr media
As for tags, well, by the time I discover something it's usually over—so I'm sure anyone I've tagged will have already done this. I hope these folks (and the person who tagged me) won't mind a public shoutout for being kind to, and patient with, someone who can be as awkwardly and frequently out of his depth as often as he posts stuff they like to like. Anyway thanks @alicelufenia @spiderwarden @trappedinafantasy37 @passacalia @coolseabird @n1ghtmeri @mimetoist.
Ok then, lots more favey stuff below:
Tumblr media
Inigo Montoya. Most people know this master swordsman from Mandy Patinkin's portrayal in the Princess Bride film. It's glorious and justifiably loved. But the Inigo from William Goldman's book gets context. Yes, Film-Inigo relates his tragic backstory well enough to squish into the overall plot. But Book-Inigo (and Book-Fezzik, btw) gets a substantially fleshed-out-flashback chapter detailing every excruciating step of his life after its defining trauma. It shows how his whole existence has been warped by enduring and then adjusting to one singular major trauma, and how by both achieving mastery of the rapier and by abusing alcohol he's let that trauma (and by extension, others like Vizzini who capitalize on it) define and control him forever after. I emphasize this to note how much of an anticlimax Inigo endures after he achieves his vengeance. These days I take that as a warning to not get too wrapped up in how I define myself or how I might attach my identity to long-ago trauma.
Tumblr media
Jean-Luc Picard. I love Star Trek and all of its captains. I love Kirk and Sisko and Janeway and Pike and (insert forgotten names here). But I identify with Picard, and it's not just because we both have daddy issues and French names that begin with "Jean-" and both Patrick Stewart and I went almost completely bald in our early 20s. I do like that he's more of a diplomat/explorer than soldier, but that he can still handle himself in a scrap. I love that he's an archaeology and history geek. But I identify most with Picard in his intense and singular commitment to anything he does, and while he may focus on one thing while dealing with it, everything else he's up against has not slipped his mind. He simply places things in a mental queue and methodically tackles them when he can. I'm not a Picard expert so I've probably forgotten why this is, or may have mischaracterized him. I'm too hypersensitive to mimic that iron discipline with which he manages himself. But I do admire it.
Tumblr media
Davos Seaworth. Like many people I have lots of beefs with the world GRRM created for his famous fantasy series. But Davos has stuck with me as a favorite character because of how loyal he is. The reformed smuggler's loyalty to his lord is so strong that it's an actual psychic shield against a witch's magic. It's literal life-fuel when Davos' fleet is destroyed and he's marooned for weeks. It's a mental weapon to parry away a pirate pal's bewildered jibes and proposals of leaving it all behind for a life of plunder. It's the only stable thing in Davos' life, and it's stronger than whomever it's dedicated to, which he learns when he must finally adjust his loyalty and give it to someone else. Rogues survive when they make their old priorities fit new situations, which is what Davos does. Loyalty's a big deal to me, so it's perhaps inevitable that I love a character who epitomizes it. That and these days I also identify with broken-down old guys who've endured weird injuries.
Tumblr media
Hera Syndulla. I caught up with "Rebels" during quarantine and it (with the other Filoniverse stuff) reignited my longtime Star Wars fandom, which had been crushed by the repulsive sequel-trilogy-fandom fights. Hera was a big reason I loved "Rebels." Yes, she's an attractive and intelligent mom-age woman who's brilliant at what she does, with infinite patience for her overly-intense hypersensitive partner—which as an over-40 straight guy was right up my alley. Still, that's a probably-unfair reduction of someone who may indeed be, as io9 once said, "one of the best Star Wars characters of all time." Unflappable leader, expert pilot, loyal friend, caring lover—and someone who will break her own rules when needed. Furthermore, a fantastic and much-needed repudiation of the tired, sexist "all Twi'leks are nubile erotic toys" trope. Oh, and she has daddy issues too, with maybe my favorite touch in anything Star Wars: she reverts to her childhood accent when she gets frustrated with him.
Tumblr media
Minthara Baenre. I haven't simped for a character in any other work the way I do for Minthara. I hadn't switched on a video game for 30 years. When I got back into tabletop RPGs I swore I'd never play D&D as a video game. I'd somehow missed the whole Drizzt-powered drow craze of past decades. And yet here I am, playing with BG3's dress-up dolls and making them kiss. If you've read the above entries, you might see why I find Minthara so compelling. Ride-or-die loyalty to her partner. Knows exactly who she is and what she wants, for better and worse, and won't apologize for it. Wielder and victim of her own passions, to a vengeful degree. Accepts that her flaws may conquer her again, but not for reasons they have in the past. Understands that one's past can inform one's present, but it can also be abandoned as needed. Revels in being hotter than a fireball in Avernus. Deploys her voice as a serrated weapon or soothing balm. My favorite romance in the game.
Honorable Mention. My favorite genre is SF/F, so I've kinda ignored other classic canon characters that I've loved (Odysseus! Mordred! Mercutio! ...Raoul Duke? Eh). So most of my honorable mentions fall within that genre too: Boba Fett and Lando Calrissian (SW: ESB) Donatello (TMNT), Gurney Halleck (Dune), Ro Laren (ST: TNG), Kira Nerys (ST: DS9), Anastasia Dualla (BSG remake), Cassian Andor (SW: R1/Andor), Bo-Katan Kryze (SW: CW/Rebels/Mandalorian), Qi'ra (SW: Solo), Clay Cooper (Kings of the Wyld), Tam Hashford (Bloody Rose), Xiala (Black Sun), Edgin Darvis (Honor Among Thieves), Rhaenys Targaryen (House of the Dragon).
Look at that, only three bards! If you've read this all the way to the end, thanks for the indulgence.

my pedro almodóvar marathon. thoughts, feelings, tier list
or, i spent like 50 hours on this so i better get to post about it
well, i'd be lying if i said i set out to do this with any clear goals in mind. i sort of just wanted to watch movies. this year i set out to watch through a couple of directors entire works, but ran into complications or got bored. so anyway when i finished my term i decided id try a third time with my best friend pedro. i had watched five of his films already but was mostly unaware of other things he had made. on the 22nd of november i started with matador, then went on and in exactly a month i had watched all of his feature films yayyy
so this is how i ranked them on letterboxd and this is a tier list. this doesnt really sum up my thoughts though so im leaving a little review for each below the cut, in the order i watched them in this month hope someone cares :) thank you
Tumblr media Tumblr media
matador (1986): ohhhhhh my god. absolutely unexpected how insane this movie made me. many people say its not very good, i dont think that's true. transgressive, erotic, camp, necrosexual, implicit faggot tension, beautiful costuming, insanely talented cast of so many characters sick in the head. watching this one first really hyped me up to keep at it and to close out the month i rewatched it the other day and though it was less surprising than the first time i watched it its maybe my favorite now :) it has structural flaws i suppose. but i love it
¿que he hecho yo para merecer esto? (1984): pretty funny! not bad at all, i remember enjoying it as i watched it, it just wasnt very memorable. i enjoy every performance by carmen maura, chus was stellar as always and forqué was really sweet in this one too, i liked it. i literally forgot half of the plot though. did anyone remember the telepathic child or the faked hitler diaries? i didnt until i looked it up.
la ley del deseo (1987) (rewatched): showed this one to my friend, god its iconic. some of my favorite chiques almodovar. so fun to watch and so silly even though its not quite a comedy. the fact that antonio is just called antonio in this one makes me unwarrantedly happy. MAURA THE WOMAN THAT YOU ARE!! very hot all around. i think i liked it better this time than the other two i had watched it.
pepi, luci, bom y otras chicas del montón (1980): everyone talks about how sexually transgressive 80s almodovar is and i was like yeah whatever until i watched this one. straight up trilogy of trash shit. so beautiful. i wish every movie was like this. no one likes it but i adored it. erecciones generales will stay in my mind forever and i loved the musical numbers. and the piss, of course.
entre tinieblas (1983): also somewhat forgettable, though i watched it while pretty worried about something else so maybe i didnt give it the attention it deserved. its not a bad time but i wouldn't rewatch it. based on the premise you think it'd be better.
la flor de mi secreto (1995) (rewatched): OH GOD. until last month my favorite almodóvar, its been outdone but it still destroys me. its terribly underrated. i dont even know what i can say about it... marisa paredes is stunning at doing desperation. the boots, the scene at the protest, the initial meeting with ángel, the poem in the car, that moment in the hall. it's beautiful and breathtaking. lesbian film history, i promise.
todo sobre mi madre (1999): like, its good, but i dont get what people see in it that makes it so acclaimed. again paredes is great in this, but penélope is somewhat tame compared to what she does later, and this is the point in the list where i have to admit cecilia roth is not very good to me and all my compatriots start throwing rocks at me. listen i just wish she'd stop doing that stupid accent its so fucking bad cecilia sincerate seguro sos de villa crespo. anyway its fine if a bit weird about trans women, but hes always a hit or miss w that
átame (1989): took a big break between the last one and this one for some reason. anyway, pretty funny, except it really drags in the middle. shouldnt have been that long, but victoria abril always slays and the last scene is wonderful.
tacones lejanos (1991): WOAHHHHH! really cool i liked it. i love a mother daughter thing especially this mother and this daughter. really fun doppelganger story and i love how it was told, i found it both melodramatic and subtle? miguel bosé makes a really pretty girl, this will inform my every subsequent rewatch of suspiria. big fan of his gender. dance number fucked obvs
kika (1993) (rewatch): ok, i know why people don't like this one, but its so silly... cmon. it sillay. once again incredible abril performance, the costuming my god.... her character makes the whole movie i wish i was her. lesbian rossy de palma was wonderful and every forqué performance is a delight. pedro getting hitchcockian with it to slightly trick the audience is a staple of his 90s filmography, fucks.
carne trémula (1997): the title made me think it would be better! there was barely any carne. i didn't really see the point of most of it tbh, though based on how the movie starts and ends there might be some spanish historical context that im missing that makes it more interesting. strangely reminiscing of the buenos aires affair to me, but puig is better. yeah it was just pretty boring.
laberinto de pasiones (1982): YAYYYYYY i had some trouble torrenting so i watched it really out of order this but its SO FUN. obviously in the same vein as pepi luci bom but i liked it slightly more just for how unnecessarily elaborate it was. the one major role i dont mind roth being in and im a big fan of antonios gay terrorist with an ultradeveloped sense of smell character and arias is really into his very silly character too – he works well in secreto as well, i wish hed been on more almodovares, i should finally watch camila. liné was hilarious too. the problematic incest storyline was really funny to me sorryyyyy and i got a lot of gender out of the musical performances. hey can you believe that beautiful fag covered in blood is a franquista now. i can
hable con ella (2002): ehhhhhhh. some people really hate this one for the couple scenes i found most interesting, others love it for reasons i cant parse. its got parts that caught my attention a lot, but mostly it was eerie in an unenjoyable and uninteresting way and the backstories dragged on too long, especially grandinetti's. like i just don't care sorry. THE scene is quite disturbing though. i appreciated he decided to show rape in a more subtle light for once, it made it a lot more cruel and a lot more interesting.
la mala educación (2004) (rewatch): sighhhh. i really wish i liked this one. its got so many elements i am into – the colours are obviously spectacular, the unreliable multiple narrations and the disassembled timelines are always enjoyable to me, the attempt at social commentary is appreciated, some scenes are stunning (fictional ignacios head split in half is unforgettable) but quite honestly the characterization is so bad it bores me. i liked it more the first time i watched it just because of how confused i was, once i wasnt it lost its magic. maybe the worst in what is considered the "somewhat autobiographical movies about directors" trilogy (i think there's four of them but we'll discuss that later) probably because the character of enrique is so bland. i know its more but it feels that you only spend like five minutes with him. ángel/juan's motivations for anything are so puzzling, ignacio is just a caricature at this point and probably the character with the most depth is berenguer, which is ironic, i guess
volver (2006): WAHHH. its hard to talk about it honestly. it was so unexpectedly beautiful. the acting is so on point – penélope cruz and that beautiful carmen maura comeback are self evident, but blanca portillo is also stellar. it was fascinating from minute one and i couldnt keep my eyes off it. its written with such care and love. i suppose the plot itself is nothing out of this world, but the way it is handled is explosive. i really adored it.
los abrazos rotos (2009): the fourth bastard on the self insert series! cmon, its way more about himself than la mala educación. anyway, its good at some points, not very in others. the strong point is obviously the relationship between mateo, judit and diego, their refusal to be tied as a family and their desire to be tied by love is reaaaally interesting. the scene at the sea... but penélope and her millionaire and her millionaires son do nothing interesting at any point, im afraid to say. sad! surprisingly not very memorable, even though i didnt dislike it as i watched it. like i remember i liked some things but if a couple weeks later i dont remember what they were its probably the movies fault
la piel que habito (2011): AUGHHH OK. fuck. THIS ONE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD. it wasnt it was really mid. when it started i was like oh is pedro trying out his hand at cronenberg and i was really excited because im SURE he can do cronenberg better than cronenberg but he didnt. it was worse. how are you giving your women less agency than that guy??? honestly probably the first ever film of his where this is a noticeable problem, though penélope in the last one should give us a hint. ughh it should have been good. im mad about that. no desire to question gender or power and the unchronological storytelling does nothing for me. BAD! if anything i recognized its sexual power for if banderas character was a woman i would be throwing up and convulsing on the floor. i hope vicente and his lesbian coworker had a beautiful romance i guess. i cant believe some people call this one one of the most controversial of his work....
los amantes pasajeros (2013): hm well everyone was like THIS is the bad one and i was like i bet you guys are just being mean but no yeah this is the bad one. its not funny and it drags on so long...i can usually defend the rape scenes in his movies, even in kika or hable con ella, but this one just sucks so bad. i was prepared to defend this movie but i cant. as soon as the movie started i was trying to guess where all the threads would connect, how all the characters would be linked and they mostly... weren't? also the reference to the gazpacho scene in mujeres made me groan out loud.
julieta (2016): well i dont really know what this was supposed to be....it feels on the surface it could have been really good but something about it felt so emotionless. it was an odd experience, watching it, because i expected to be moved by so many scenes and i never was. i dont know what the point of it was.
dolor y gloria (2019): ok yeah this one was sweet! didn't blow my mind or anything but it was very cleverly made...a really more beautiful way to do the childhood-as-movie thing than in mala educación, i really enjoyed it. nostalgia bores me sometimes but i feel hes not being annoying about it. long live old man yaoi (and finally an argentinian actor i DONT hate...) and that beautiful beautiful cave and that mind gripping apartment bringing in the characteristic insane set design but in a new way...i had a good time
madres paralelas (2021): oh this could have been so good! it wasnt but honestly i dont remember exactly why i disliked it. i suppose i didnt connect to the characters and that it is a story that requires that to engage you – their motivations were really out of place and unlike other movies that bothered me. really interesting premise, didnt work out. im sad about it. could have been cool.
yeah so that's it i only realized while writing this that i forgot to rewatch mujeres but obvs that ones very good, proper classic, quote it every time i eat gazpacho and such. also extraña forma de vida is a snore i refuse to watch it again. i hope this works as a rec list for someone. and i am ready to be stoned by my wrong opinions by the rest of you

FNAF Movie :^)
Just watched it and I wanna write down my thoughts.
First bit of this post is mostly spoiler-free, I'll put spoilers under the read more.
If you're a fan and you're planning on watching it anyway, DO NOT READ ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TL;DR: it's good, we've waited so long for this, you'll enjoy it, don't spoil it for yourself :^)
First of all, I really enjoyed it. It felt very genuine, like it was made for the fans. Despite having a couple scares, it wasn't really scary. People who just wanna watch a horror film but don't really care for FNAF might be a bit disappointed there. Though as a FNAF fan, it's exactly what I hoped it would be tone-wise. It has a horror theme to it but doesn't take itself too seriously. It's pretty funny too, and has a lot of references to various things from the games and community (I'll elaborate in the spoilery bit).
There's a lot of small details sprinkled in throughout the movie, and I definitely missed some of them. I'll probably be rewatching it asap whenever it's available online.
Spoilers below (I have a lot to say about the lore) \/
FINAL SPOILER WARNING, IF YOU MISCLICKED, LOOK AWAY NOW. I WILL BE SPOILING THE FNAF MOVIE !!!!
I'm very interested about the canon of this movie. Although it seems like an adaptation of the first game, the plot and some major characters are very different. Game canon has always been pretty unclear but this movie contradicts a lot of what we thought we knew. It could be a retcon, or it be its own movie canon (that the potential movie sequels will follow). I'm very curious about the theories that people will have about it.
Here's some major points:
Mike Schmidt is Mike Schmidt, not a pseudonym for Michael Afton. Does Michael Afton even exist?? Who knows. Either way, William Afton immediately recognises his surname and immediately offers him the Freddy's job upon reading it. This could be because he knew Mike's brother, though I would've assumed that William was just killing random kids during MCI. Specifically picking Mike for the job due to this connection was very interesting. Also, what happened to Garrett? Like, yeah, William killed him, but he's not one of the ghost kids.
Abby / Vanessa -- who even is Elizabeth Afton?? The general theory before the movie came out was that Abby was the movie version of Elizabeth. Name is an anagram of Baby, she's Mike's sister, etc. But we now know that Mike and Abby are not William's children. Instead, Vanessa is William's daughter. It sort of makes sense, Elizabeth has been portrayed with blonde hair before and there is a loose connection between Security Breach Vanessa and Elizabeth. (Her actress is also Elizabeth Lail...) The timeline also lines up, Vanessa/Elizabeth was a child in the 80s, since the FNAF movie is set in 2000. One small problem though... Vanessa is alive. Is Elizabeth actually Vanessa's sister that died in the 80s, similar to what happened to Mike's brother? Why does William blame the missing children incident on Vanessa during the final confrontation? I have no idea. I'm really curious to see how this all connects.
There's a weird previously unseen springlock suit in the storage room??? It almost looks like an early version of Baby, based on the face... And Abby almost gets placed into it. Interesting.
I gotta refresh myself on the game lore, I do wonder how much of the game lore still makes sense if you assume the movie is also canon. Maybe the Schmidt family (Mike, Abby, Garrett) can work as the Afton children (Michael, Elizabeth, Crying Child) with William Afton actually having a different family to what we assumed (Vanessa). Though, assuming movie Vanessa is the same as game Vanessa, with Security Breach taking place likely 25-35 years after the events of the movie (which was confirmed to be in 2000), she would be in her 40s / 50s in SB. Maybe she just looks young for her age ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I suppose it's possible that in the 2030s, an unrelated woman who looks strikingly similar to Afton's daughter just decided to work for Freddy's. Maybe Afton controlled SB Vanessa because she reminds him of his daughter. Who knows.
Moving on from the lore, here's some other things I wanted to mention:
Chica's magic rainbow in the mall
The diner that MatPat works at is named Sparky's (reference to the Sparky dog hoax from early fnaf days)
Also... MATPAT IS IN THE MOVIE. And he says something like "Lunch is more important than breakfast, but that's just a theory." (or the other way round)
Dream theory being a book and major plot point
After the credits, there's a robotic voice reading out letters (similar to that one fnaf minigame). At first I thought it read something like HOME (I didn't quite hear the rest). But it could just have been SAVE THEM or HELP THEM like in the minigames. EDIT: After rewatching this part, it definitely says "COME FIND ME".
They actually played TLT's FNAF song in the credits.
There's some loose parallels to things that happen in the books, like foxy for Abby around arcade machines, similar to what happened to Charlie in The Silver Eyes.
Balloon Boy toy jumpscares were hilarious.
The animatronics teaming up to build a fort for Abbie was hilarious.
I just love how goofy this movie was in some parts...
The ending does establish some plot points for the sequel with Willy getting springlocked and Mike telling Abbie "you never know what may happen" when she asks to return to Freddy's.
What happened to the aunt's body?? Like, the people who broke in got stuffed so they are accounted for. Presumably golden freddy didn't take the aunt's body when he and Abby went back to Freddy's. So did Mike and Abby come back home to their dead aunt lying on the floor????
They used the profanity budget for the movie's age rating to let the pharmacist call Mike an asshole. Love it.
WILLIAM ALWAYS COMES BACK
But Cupcake was the real villain all along.
That's all I remember for now. I might edit this later if I remember more. Very cool movie :^) 👍👍
