Vehicon y/n actually did die as he was being hooked up to his new body but came back to life because this was after they learned from starscream that energon is basically what they use to live and that was basically injected into y/n's body to the point slowly y/n is becoming reliant on his new body that taking him out would kill him without the constant flowing of energon in his system and now having energon keeping him alive. His body will never age like a regular humans, he is forced this immortality as he doesn’t know that once cybertron is repaired that he’ll have to go, he doesn’t know he can’t stay because is more cybertronian than human but he feels a small part of him still connected to earth, he feels his heart ache and his human body slowly wasting away in him till he eventually is the vehicon body that he’ll live in, he’s scared and just wants someone to hold close. Similar to the last unicorn, he can feel his body dying all around him, his near death experience had let him see his mortality as now he is forced to be immortal because of Silas.

Plus I as I will say it again. You all know that scene where in Steven universe where pearl was thinking of taking Stevens gem out, thinking rose was trapped in that form. Well y/n has thought of that and he thought it was a solution so basically to tear his human body out to be free but if he did then bro. It would be like a horror movie scene.

I like to think of yandere bayverse transformers cause like you saw how the all spark gives life to any electronic thing and I imagine just y/n's cellphone end up coming to life and y/n just stands there like "sorry, I couldn't answer your calls, my phone just jumped out of my hands to help fight the decepticons" and Sam (or Cabe) doesn't believe it and then sees y/n's fucking phone come running back and just climb into y/n's pocket and transform back into a regular phone. I really just like the dumb idea of y/n having to deal with their phone being a autobot.

And NHS referred LZ to an ad that WY had posted to be a horrible date. WY was living with the Wens and working at least 2 jobs. Also he made his own outfits and he made one for LZ. They referred to WY as an escort, but they didn't seem to realize they were implying that WY was doing sex work. There were several wedding related events to attend. I'll keep looking.

So when I was setting up to get top surgery, I was still working for and lived near though fortunately not with, my abusive-ass parents. I told them I was getting a "breast reduction" and they insisted I would convalesce with them. Great. While in one of the final appointments leading up to the surgery, my surgeon asked what my post surgery plans were. And was, admittedly rightfully, horror-struck at the idea of me trying to recover from surgery in my abusive-ass family's house.

However...I couldn't do anything about where I would be directly post-surgery. I had no choice. I planned to get home as soon after surgery as I could, maybe ask my friends for help if needed...but staying at my parents' was Not Something I Could Get Out Of. My surgeon was so sure her team would correctly gender me and let the secret out of the bag (this did not happen, they did not gender me correctly even once), and looked like she would cancel the whole thing unless I came out to my parents. Cuz again, I didn't have better options. I fully expected to be blowing up my life, losing my job, the whole thing. But at least I'd be able to get surgery.

I came out to my parents. Drafted a letter, went to a restaurant with two of my best friends, met my parents there, and gave them the letter. It went...it was civilized. There wasn't explosions right then. Everything was very contained. What with the public and all. The shoe didn't drop immediately.

But both of them, separately, got me alone to vent their spleens about the whole deal. My dad told me I was his "Horse riding, jean wearing, girl," and more sensitive than my sister, and therefore more girly. My mom told me that me being trans was literally "Worse than her brothers dying."

So about what I expected. Fucking horrible. Honestly, would've almost been better if they just tossed me. I wouldn't have had years more of abuse at their hands.

So yeah. Came out to my parents because my doctor pressured me in ways that jeopardized my transition (after 10 months waiting for my surgery appointment), it went predictably poorly, I still had to "recover" at their house.

Interesting post-script to that story, I apparently have a pretty good pain tolerance? I was able to drive home after about two days? And drove 40 minutes out to got out with friends at Halloween before my drains had even been removed? ^_^ That was rad.

Finished the first book. Can see why this hooked me so much as a teenager. Stroud cuts a fantastic balance of horror and humour in these novels and its a tragedy that netflix, who adapted the first two novels so well, decided to drop it altogether.

- The red room in Coombe-Carey is so fucking nasty I love it. I love everything in the hall, the ghost stories and their backstory, how its described to look, the gnarly old groundskeeper. good stuff.

- I like that the book highlights the fact that the monks were accused of blasphemy and then murdered horrifically. When they tried to claim in the tv show they became demonic worshippers I wasnt able to take the rest of the scenes with them very seriously. Ghost monks who turned to devil worship dying and coming back? Incredibly C-List horror filmy plot-like. Monks who were accused of devil worship being horrifically persecuted and violently murdered by the church, only to come back as an amalgafied horror? After dedicating their life to god? Betrayed by the people and organization they dedicated themselves to? Expecting an afterlife and finding themselves husks stuck in the inbetween abandoned by their religion now twice over, brewing in hatred and misery existing in the perpetual state of their collective deaths? That is something scary. That is the kind of shit that leads to a haunted as fuck place like the hall.

- The stuff about the Fittes boy breaking his neck on the stairs while trying to escape the screaming and his body lying there for decades... awful. Especially with how his ghost tries to help the group. I'm glad he gets a proper burial. And I'm glad Stroud doesn't shy away from how exploitative this whole business would be of children. How gruesome it often ends.

- I forgot Lucy nearly jumps in the well because of ghostlock eugh that whole scene unnerves me. King Lockwood and the teenage urge to blow up scary shit. Love when they use magnesium bombs and flares to solve problems.

-Sidenote No wonder so many kids are agents you just get weapons. They give these kids bombs to blow up ghosts.

- Hated every second of Fairfax talking hes so slimy and sexist. Love the scene of Lucy opening the locket so much. Still so satisfying 11 years after I originally read it to see that old man die horribly.

- Quill having to do cleanup with his team, barely able to move around plastic boxes. Theres no meat on that twig of a man. I love it.

- Okay the Skull trying to be all mysterious and scary to Lucy? Incredibly funny knowing hes just a scrawny teenage boy. And a brat. Bro I've read (most) of the other books. You are not scary. Creepy at most.

- Now I've finished it, The Whispering Skull is next. Its probably my least favourite of the books so we'll see if thats changed but I doubt it. Fav is the 3rd book by far, the department store shit is proper scary. But I do enjoy the heavy plot stuff about Bickerstaff that gets revealed so looking forward to that! This reread is VERY fun.

Okay so I won't name any names for two reasons: One because I'm not an ass and TWO bc I'm afraid one of the server owners will find this post n yell at me even though I don't even know if they have a Tumblr <333 anyways this is gonna be mostly bullet points where I put as much bad shit as I remember from this server I joined while it's still fresh in my mind. And ofc I wanna use my character Carrie again so if you have anywhere BETTER I could rp let me know <333 anyways now onto the hater shit

So first of all, important thing about my character is she has a mortal partner and I mentioned that, and obviously knowing how the lore is I was like "She's going to keep her girlfriend a secret though because she does realize how that would go down if anyone knew" and they straight up said no???? And me, being socially awkward, immediately left in response bc I didn't have anyone else in mind to use as a character LMFAO- and it was only then that they asked me to rejoin and they changed their tune and said it was okay?? I did have my character ghoul her gf later so it was fine but that was... weird. But ok

Another thing about my character is: She does urban exploration in deserted buildings for aesthetic pics! Very risky obviously but one of the main points I was making about my character is that she's a very reckless fledgling girl. So she makes stupid decisions sometimes. Her sire is dead y'all she's gonna be a little dumb. But anyways I tagged an ST for these types of scenes exactly TWICE and then never again because every time he kinda just sent random bullshit at me to basically chase me out of the area and whatever I was rping??? It honestly irritated me because even if they DID feel the idea was dumb I wish they would've just told me instead of this??? Idk if they were trying to prove a point here or what

This motherfucker somehow made SEX unsexy it was pissing me off. So they disappeared for a while and I forgot about them and then they came back and they dmed me right? And they were like "What have you been up to" and I was just like "Oh I'm actually working on a lot of stuff! :)" (bc I was) and they were like "haha me too" and sent a gif of a porn actor beating off and ngl. That shit pissed me off so bad I just had my bf take my phone and respond "He's busy rn lil bro ;)" before blocking LMAO. Sorry, I was NOT the bigger person in that situation. This felt so anime MMO THAT should've been the final straw for me and it just. Wasn't.

Should also mention that in response to experiencing this for the first time one of the characters said VERBATIM "Is this... how do they say, an isekai?" That shit pissed me off SO BAD I wanted to throw my phone away lmfaoooo

Oh also for some of the characters who were mid rp when they left just. Had their characters killed off after they left. No joke AT ALLLLL

I'm bouncing around a larger post about Nishiki and the mortifying ordeal of being known, but in the meantime I'm thinking about Nishiki and Kiryu and how the clothes make (or don't make) the man. Like, beyond my visceral horror that Kiryu begged Nishiki to pick out a safe and boring suit for him in Y0 and then said he was envisioning something purple with gold stripes.

I'm thinking about Nishiki's incredible sensitivity to image and his need to control how he's perceived. I'm thinking about Kiryu's inability to let go of the past. I'm thinking about how KIryu dresses like who he thinks he is, and Nishiki dresses like who he thinks he wants to be.

There's some interesting incidental dialogue between Nishiki and Kiryu in Y0 while they're en route to the men's suit store. I wish it wasn't so easy to miss, because there's a lot to unpack here. (I'm just transcribing the English in-game subtitles here; I don't speak Japanese so I have no idea how loose vs. direct the localization is in this part.)

NISHIKI: …now that I think about it, you've been dressing like an old man since we were kids. KIRYU: Have I? NISHIKI: Yeah. The few times we got to pick our clothes, it was always like, "you're choosing THAT?" NISHIKI: I wouldn't say you're a plain guy…You'd pick shirts with weird prints though. KIRYU: Guess I forgot all that. It's weirder to me that you haven't. NISHIKI: Well, confession time. You're why I started caring about fashion. I swore I'd never go out dressed like you. KIRYU: Come on, I'm not THAT bad. [we have already discussed why kiryu is, in fact, that bad.] NISHIKI: [laughing] Aww, did I hurt your feelings? NISHIKI: Well, this time you've got me with you. I'll see my bro gets taken care of. KIRYU: Heh. What an honor. NISHIKI: Leave it to me.

Nishiki doesn't bring up Sunflower Orphanage much; when he does share memories of his childhood, those memories are kind of painful (see: "do orphans not get to dream?"). Kiryu's surprised that Nishiki remembers how they dressed as kids, but it makes sense that wearing a limited selection of hand-me-downs stuck with Nishiki so strongly. His clothes announced his poverty, and they weren't even his -- he had to share them with the other orphans, so what he wore showed he belonged to yet another stigmatized group. And I'm sure people picked up on those visual signals, especially other kids. Kids can be vicious, and appearance is an easy and immediate target! We don't know for sure how young Nishiki interacted with his peers and teachers, but given what the Morning Glory kids go through in Y3 (and given, like, everything about Nishiki), he probably didn't have a great time.

Kiryu frames his childhood as poor but loving, and places much more emphasis on the latter. There might be some rose-colored glasses at work there -- let's look at the flashback where Kazama tries (and fails) to violently dissuade Kiryu and Nishiki from joining the yakuza.

KIRYU: I owe you everything, but this isn’t about that. [...] We’ve looked up to you for all this time. Your car. Your confidence… The way everybody bows to you. We idolized you. I want that life, too. Is that so wrong!?

Nishiki doesn't really speak in this flashback, but like, Kiryu uses "we" enough for us to draw some obvious conclusions about Nishiki's own motivations. That being said, I don't think Kiryu's being dishonest or disingenuous when he describes his childhood as happy, and himself as well-loved. He's not ashamed of his upbringing, and he doesn't hide where he came from. Nishiki seems to have the inverse view. It's not that he doesn't love (at least some of) the people he grew up with, but what comes up first for him is what he didn't have. He didn't have money. He didn't have respect. He didn't have a cure for his little sister. He didn't have a lot of choice, right down to the clothes he wore.

(There's a whole other essay here about why Kiryu's and Nishiki's perspectives diverge on this, but I'm trying to limit the scope of this post. Suffice to say that, while I don't think game canon gives a timeline, I do think Nishiki was a little older when his parents were killed -- old enough that he actually remembers them, at least.)

The same mindset fuels Nishiki's interest in fashion. Yeah, part of it is that he's ribbing Kiryu, but I think it goes deeper than Kiryu wearing ugly shirts. Nishiki doesn't want people to look at him and see what's missing. Fashion isn't a means of personal expression for him, really. It's a message. It's the interplay of knowledge and resources and presentation: knowing what clothes read as successful and trendy and expensive, being able to afford those things, and convincing people that your successful important outfit makes you a successful important person. And he's not wrong about the social dimensions of fashion.

NISHIKI: Try sporting a suit that runs 500 grand for once. Trust me, you’ll see the world in a whole new light. KIRYU: Fashion’s not my thing. Besides, Kazama-san never wore flashy clothes. NISHIKI: You do realize he’s the family captain, right? Number two in the whole Dojima operation? You get to that level, you can wear whatever you damn well please. But for the rest of us, “flashy” is part of the business. KIRYU: So that fancy new car you bought was just “business”. NISHIKI: Yeah, and that fancy lighter of mine, too. Which you still haven’t given back. KIRYU: You want to play the rich guy, quit being so stingy. NISHIKI: But you get what I’m saying, right? People see the expensive car, the designer jacket, and the gleam of that little Dojima pin, they pay attention. A yakuza’s only as good as his image. [...] Take your buddy today. These squeaky-clean idiots, borrowing money just to blow on tits and booze… Nobody in this town gives a crap about substance. What you see is what you get.

That's our first take on one of the major themes of the game: what does it mean to be yakuza? Again, there is truth to what Nishiki's saying here, particularly in terms of the ethos of the eighties. I'm not an expert on the bubble era, but the worldbuilding in the game speaks for itself. People hail taxis with 10,000-yen bills. You punch money out of punks during random street battles. Nishiki keeps a personal bottle of high-end booze at a bar he's visited twice, mostly because he "can’t stand being taken for a bum." The act of spending is important, not what you're spending it on.

Nishiki's outfit in Y0 is perfectly suited (heh) to that outlook. And look, I might be inviting controversy here, but in context, I think it's a werq. Yes, it's loud. But the silhouette -- squared shoulders, single breasted, thinner peaked lapel -- is right on trend for the time period, and it fits him well. The colors look good on him. The bold pattern (no, it's not animal print) under the solid maroon is a risk, but he pulls it off. And excess aside, he knows when to pull back on the accessories. It's bright and confident and memorable, and boy would Nishiki like to be all of those things.

Also -- and importantly -- Kiryu would never go out dressed like that. Because we can't talk about Nishiki and Kiryu without talking about Nishiki's Mt. Fuji-sized inferiority complex. Mastering image doesn't just make Nishiki stand out; it makes him stand out from Kiryu. Let's go back to the beginning of the game.

NISHIKI: I’ll admit, though, you’re finally starting to look the part. You make a pretty convincing yakuza. You’re done with collections today, right? KIRYU: Yeah. NISHIKI: Good. That should put Kazama-san’s mind at ease a bit. KIRYU: Heh, dunno about that. But he always knew all I could do is fight. You’re the one who’s good at the dance.

Nishiki then calls attention to the "rags" that Kiryu's wearing, which...is not an unfair assessment. (TUCK IN YOUR SHIRT, KIRYU. HEM YOUR PANTS.) As the two of them walk around Kamurocho, Nishiki offers Kiryu plenty of hot tips, from meeting girls to making big bucks to cozying up to the brass. But even when Nishiki's opining on his area of expertise, there's a competitive edge to it. "You asking me to pick out clothes for you means you admit you have terrible taste," he tells Kiryu on the way to the suit shop. Kiryu tells him to shut up, but there's no actual hurt behind it. Kiryu doesn't really care that his taste in clothes sucks. Fashion isn't important to him. Most of the things Nishiki knows so much about don't really matter to Kiryu. And that makes Nishiki feel more insecure! Because if Kiryu rolls out of bed looking like a yakuza, if Nishiki's image counseling sessions aren't helpful or meaningful, if Kiryu can skip the dance and get to the top on the strength of his fists and convictions, then who cares about Nishiki's 500 grand suit or his hourlong hair care routine? If image isn't what makes a yakuza, what does that make Nishiki?

At the end of Chapter 6, Nishiki tries to look out for Kiryu again -- this time, by granting him a merciful death before the Dojima Family drags him to the Hole. It's one of my favorite scenes in the game. Nishiki's crying too hard to aim the gun properly; Kiryu tells him to man up and shoot. Finally, Nishiki collapses.

NISHIKI: Can’t do it… How could I shoot you!? Without you, I’ll always be nothing. Can’t make it as a yakuza… No. I wouldn’t even still be alive now if I didn’t have you beside me! I’m just… If you’re not with me, I’m useless! Nothing means anything!

Mastering image hasn't granted Nishiki anything of substance. At the end of the day, Nishiki's playing dress-up, and he knows it.

And I'm almost certainly getting into overthinking-this territory now (if I haven't gotten there already), but I kind of like the spin this puts on Nishiki ripping his expensive suit off in Chapter 14 when he decides to fight the Dojima Family at Kiryu's side. Like yes, ripping off your outer layers to get at the naked (so to speak) truth -- your irezumi, and what it represents -- is just Yakuza Storytelling 101. It's decisive, it's kind of dumb, it's great, it gets me hyped every time. But I like that Nishiki's honest answer to "what does it mean to be a yakuza?" isn't about looking the part. I am genuinely trying not to end this paragraph by saying that Nishiki must become like a dragon, but like...you get where I'm going with this.

Of course, Nishiki's back to playing dress-up in Y1/Kiwami. I'm not the first to call the Patriarch Nishikiyama look a glow-down (though I like the patterned white tie). Like, fashion-conscious Nishiki would look good in a Hedi Slimane/Tom Ford-esque skinny black suit. But he picks a silhouette you'd expect to see on a much older man, torso-swallowing pants and all. The slicked-back hair doesn't help. He's just so transparently trying to look bigger and broader and older, and he doesn't pull it off. Big Bad Patriarch isn't a good look for him, in any sense of the phrase.

A final thought: Kiryu's clothes, and Nishiki's commentary on them, are the subject of their first conversation in Y0 -- and of their last. Kiryu's costume progression in Y0 is a pretty obvious commentary on his journey, to the point where Kiryu and Nishiki explicitly call attention to the color connotations in their final exchange. As a Dojima grunt, he wears black, and it doesn't look good on him because "brutish thug who keeps his head down and does what he's told" isn't a role he's comfortable with. He wears white when he works in real estate, but the change in color isn't enough to sell anyone on his transformation into a civilian. Although it's a little rich for Oda "Red Clown Shoes" Jun to chide someone for not wearing a proper suit. At the end of the game, Kiryu's in his classic grey suit, and well, the game spells it out:

KIRYU: I’m not feeling black or white these days. This is where I’m at right now. I chose it myself. I’m making it a fresh start. NISHIKI: Fine, fine. See if I care! Wear it the rest of your life!

Nishiki, dismayed, tells Kiryu that the grey suit already looks dated, but for Kiryu, "fresh start" doesn't mean "on trend". His image might be out of step with how other yakuza view themselves, or want to be seen, but if he's always going to look like a yakuza, he might as well stake his claim on what being a yakuza means. Still, it's telling that, even as a young man, Kiryu looks like a throwback to an earlier era. As the series progresses, the games hammer this home more and more. How many antagonists tell Kiryu that he's out of touch with the modern world, that he represents a version of the yakuza that no longer exists, that it's time for him to make way for the next generation?

"Wear it the rest of your life!" is a funny little in-joke, yeah, but...it's a little sad when you think about it, isn't it? Kiryu gets new outfits from Y3 on -- and in every game, he ultimately puts the suit back on and heads to Kamurocho. It's exactly of a piece with how Kiryu views being yakuza. We, and he, can debate the exact extent of his retirement from the Tojo Clan's affairs, but the yakuza isn't a career for Kiryu, it's a set of beliefs he carries with him. He wears the suit the same way he wears the dragon on his back: as an indelible part of his self-image.

i wanted to lean more into Charlie's doll like features because I feel like Viv could've used it more

Charlie's face is based off info where demons make themselves look/act friendly in order to lure people to them

The twist is Charlie's luring (unintentionally) people in for good intentions

Her face is supposed to look familiar/common but enough to look kinda unique

The doll theme going on is to make Charlie s bit uncanny; aka how skinwalkers are

She looks fake and hollow, her face looks empty, kind of how someone putting on facade looks like (again referencing demon lore)

dolls just being almost everyone's least favorite thing in general because of how uncanny and creepy they are

The only thing she's hiding is a literal angel

She has her mom's nose

She only has small goat features (two pairs of ears and hooves) because technically the goat symbolism came from the Church demonizing Pan

I think it slightly adds to her symbolism of being like a sheep/lamb (innocent and pure)

the pure/uncanny look symbolizes how she's kind and sweet and other stuff but she's inexperienced (lacking basically) and bites more than she can chew in terms of the hotel

she's scared of the abuse and violations that comes with her power dynamics leading her to not have that much of a spine, which vaggie helps with

I think the look I gave them + some of their bloodthirsty nature's brings in more of the horror

I do like the fact they look like regular people underneath the masks because it kinda reminds you of heaven's hierarchy

A (Really Late) Series of Top 5s of My Favorite Things This Year

(Oops, left this in my drafts and forgot to finish it until now. please enjoy my out of season seasonal listicle!)

As we're inching closer to the end of the year I thought it'd be fun to do a series of top 5s for all the forms of media I've watched and enjoyed this year. I don't have a lot of brand new stuff from this year so expect a lot of "new to me" spots on these list. I'll also drop an honorable mention for each list before the final one. so to begin; Top 5 TV shows: 5. X-Men '97- A show that takes the ball of the original 90's cartoon and then proceeds to do some Michael Jordan shit with it. a stunningly animated series that also has some of the strongest writing I've seen in a superhero series. Episode 5 in particular is this gutcheck of tense romantic drama and nightmarish cruelty that rocks the foundations of every character in the series. easy front runner for best X-Men media with X-2 and First Class.

4. Game Changer- Game Changer feels like a show made in a lab specifically to tickle the dungeon master part of my brain. seeing Sam Reich put the Dropout cast through various saw traps every episode is just so entertaining, especially when the contestants get to test the borders of what Sam and crew set up. The real meat of the show is when Brennan Lee Mulligan has been singled out and a whole game is built around fucking with him. stand out episodes in my head are the Sam Says series, Escape the Greenroom, and Second Place.

3. Neon Genesis Evangelion- Eva is one of those things I've kinda had the wrong impression of for a long while, mostly because of people talking about it in a way that misses what I loved about it (or you know, are just wrong about it). I went in expecting the "deconstruction of the mecha genre" pitch I'd heard all my life, and while it's kinda there, I latched way harder onto the gripping psychological horror and masterful character writing. I spent a good chunk of this year stewing over how layered and interesting and deeply fucked up this cast is and how they bounce off of each other like electrons through a molecule. I will say I'm not super fond of the dub as it feels a bit stiff in places and sands off some of the sub's harder hitting lines, but the quality still shines through regardless. best episode for my money are the last 2 because DAMN what an ending.

2. The Haunting of Hill House- Hill House is a show that for a good 3/4 episode stretch had me in tears by the end, and every episode left me and the friend I watched it with going "goddamn" when credits rolled. A masterpiece of horror and a deeply chilling story of grief. So good it leaves me both excited and tentative for Mike Flannagan's other works because I'm worried nothing he does could live up to Hill House. Episodes 5 and 6 in particular are the zenith of the show.

The Venture Bros- I've watched this show 3 times this year, once by myself, once with one friend, once with another friend added on. My love for this show grew with every rewatch. Venture Bros feels like a show made just for me. It's thoughtfully crafted, it's got a great knack for character writing, it's funny-GOD is it funny. one of the rare long form series that somehow gets better as it goes to the point it somehow hitting new peaks some 70 episodes in. it's so hard to pick a favorite episode, Escape to The house of Mummies Part 2, Operation P.R.O.M., Spanakopita!, All This and Gargantua-2. There's too many to choose one. I love this show so goddamn much.

Top 5 Games of The Year:

5. Dragon Quest 11- I was spurred on by the passing of Akira Toriyama to finally dip my toe into the DQ series and it did not disappoint. I wonderful JRPG with fun mechanics, a beautiful art style and an all round phenomenal party. special shout out to Sylvando for being just the best at all times. I do find the post game pulls the rug out from the main story a bit as it undermines one of the best moments in act 2, but the core of the game is still so so good.

4. Resident Evil 8- I'm one of those big cowards who has a hard time playing horror games because the agency in the scare gets to me too much. So I've also been tiptoeing into the genre with RE8 (I've seen playthrough's of 7 so I know what's up plot wise). The map layouts and puzzles scratch the same part of my brain as finding a shortcut in one of the souls games and I love it. on top of this is I find the resource management very fun, the feeling that I have to make what I got count feels nice to me. easy standout moment of the game for me is the dollhouse section, the escape room and the baby are so chilling back to back, though admittedly I don't care for the hide and seek after them.

3. Potionomics- Potionomics is this difficulty sandwich where the early game and final week are some of the hardest challenges a management game has thrown at me, with a really easy middle where I get to coast by and chill with all the character I like. Those characters in particular are a blast to be around, especially with the new update giving them all voice acting to breath even more life into them. This is a cast with no losers but I in particular love Roxanne, Corsac, Boss Finn and Mint. also love that the post game is an endless mode so you can catch up on any relationships you put on the back burner to focus on the contests

2. I Am Your Beast- A blitz of a FPS game that incentivizes learning the maps front to back to get that perfect run. The gameplay is finely crafted so when you know what you're doing you feel like the ultra competent badass you play as. This also has my favorite story of any game this year, Harding is such a compelling protagonist and it's nice to get the rare anti-military military shooter. I also really want to spotlight how good the voice direction and acting is in this, every major character sounds incredible and all of the random enemies you fight have some of the funniest lines I've heard in a game this year.

Ultrakill- Ultrakill plays like if someone found a way to code a game out of pure cocaine. This game hits my brain is constantly spamming a dopamine button. It's level design, weapon loadout, art direction and that sweet sweet parry button are all expertly crafted. I had such a good time with this game that it was the only thing I played for a week straight on vacation. I cannot wait for the final act to finish and sink my teeth into the game one more time

Top 5 Comics of The Year-

5. The Summer Hikaru Died- One of my favorite reading experiences this year was plowing through the first 2 volumes of this on quiet afternoon with the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack on in the background. An excellent gay romance/horror series that captures a lot of feelings of grief, growing up gay and dealing with that in a small conservative town. Cannot wait to see where the series goes from here.

4. Ultimate Spider-Man (2024)- This exact book is what made me want to keep up with the new Ultimate Marvel line and monthly comic releases in general this year. The best goddamn Spider-Man book in years, Johnathan Hickman is running marathons around the other ongoing Spidey books by having incredible character writing. Peter's later in life exploration of a side of himself that was taken away from him, his relationship with MJ and his children, his blooming friendship with Harry Osborne, an actual fleshed out relationship with Uncle Ben, Ben and J. Jonah, BEN AND J. JONAH. It's all so so good.

3. Transformers (2023)- This and TF One have reignited the dormant Transformers fan in me from childhood. Daniel Warren Johnson uses the Transformers premise to weave an intense war drama while exploring themes of wartime trauma, loyalty and doing your best in spite of the worst case scenario. So many staple characters are shown in such fascinating lights. Optimus is constantly trying to do what's best for both earth and the Autobots even when his choices piss off his friends and allies. Starscream starts off the series as leader of the Decepticons and proves why he's so unfit for the role. Arcee and Carly dealing with different points of their revenge journeys. All this great writing with the icing on the cake of Daniel Warren Johnson drawing giant robots powerbombing and piledriving eachother cuz he's a big wrestling nerd.

2. The Nice House on The Lake- This was an 11th hour read for me this year but GOD was it a good choice. A knockout premise executed masterfully by writer James Tynion IV. I'm hesitant to even say anything that happens because the experience of seeing the mystery unfold is unmatched. genuinely one of my new favorite horror stories.

REAL- REAL is about finding that thing that drives you, that truly calls to you and gets you wanting to push yourself more and more. Then it’s taken from you, whether it be by bad luck, poor health or even your own mistakes. It’s feeling that driving dream leave you behind, and it hurts. But you have to keep going, you find something new and you try again. Takehiko Inoue paints this beautiful portrait of everyday people trying their best, even in their worst moments. Please, read REAL.

Top 5 Wrestling Matches of the Year-

5. Bryan Danielson vs Will Ospreay, 4/21/24- So heads up, the unofficial name for this list is "oops, all Bryan" as Danielson's final full time year has been the thing I was fixated on the most in the wrestling world. This one also happens to be my favorite Ospreay match I've ever seen. Will's performances tend to be a bit inconsistent for my tastes but Dragon helps him hone in for one of his best performances ever.

4. Daniel Makabe vs Timothy Thatcher, 4/4/24- Bryan wasn't the only gifted technical wrestler who said goodbye this year as this was also Daniel Makabe's farewell run. On this final run of the indies he had one more run in with his greatest rival, Timothy Thatcher. The 2 put on a wonderful epilogue to their feud by weaving back and forth between excellent mat based wrestling and an all out slugfest. Farewell Mr. Makabe and thanks for the memories

3. Swerve Strickland vs Bryan Danielson, 8/25/24- No other match filled me with sure pure excitement this year as this one. Bryan getting one more triumphant victory as a stadium full of people scream their heads off for him. This is probably Swerve's best non-Hangman match too as he shapes himself into the cocky domineering obstacle standing in our hero's way. One last feel good moment for the greatest of all time.

2. Bryan Danielson vs Jon Moxley, 10/12/24- Transcendent, Bryan Danielson dies on live pay per view and it's just as heartbreaking as it is enthralling to watch. Jon Moxley's greatest match hands down as he takes on the mantle of deranged killer who thinks he must slay the dragon to regain the title of king. Bryan fights like a wounded beast, trying desperately to stay alive, but eventually the wounds add up and he is inevitably put to sleep. so much about this match is perfect, to the opening brawl, to Bryan's ever great fiery comebacks, to Nigel McGuinness at ringside slowly dropping his spite and snide comment and showing genuine concern for his greatest rival. What more can I say except thank you Bryan.

Demus vs Mad Dog Conolly 4/4/24- The best dog collar match of all time, fuck you, fight me. Mad Dog puts on a bruiser monster performance that would make the likes of Bruiser Brody blush. Meanwhile Demus takes every lick Mad Dog can throw at him and comes back gritting his teeth and swinging back just as hard. A bloodbath that ends with some of the nastiest punches I've seen in a wrestling match, the best match on the best show of the year.

Top 5 Films of The Year-

5. Transformer One- This film was done so dirty by it's marketing team man, it's insane. Just a banger movie that's probably one of the best pieces of Transformers media, like, ever. an excellently animated, written and especially excellent voice acting from the cast. Brian Tyree Henry's D-16/Megatron is THE standout performance of the film hands down

4. Speak No Evil (2022)- A stomach churningly tense horror film where by the last stretch of the film myself and the friend I watched it with were screaming for the protagonists to get out of a situation we knew was hopeless. It's insidious, a scare formed from small moment until the full picture is in front of you and there's nothing the characters can do to stop it.

3. End of Evangelion- Every film from this point forward are all time classics that I will think about for probably the rest of my life. End of Eva is this awe inspiring balancing act; equal parts despair at the thought of being known and the euphoria at the thought of being understood. With this conflict I found myself wondering how the proverbial coin will land, only to be surprised that the coin lands on it's side and finds a beautiful synthesis of emotions. A simply beautiful film from my favorite director I discovered this year

2. RRR- WOOOOOOOOOO, FRIENDSHIP, BROTHERHOOD, DECOLONIZATION, LIBERATION, FRIENDSHIP!!! 3 Hours that sprint by as every half hour the movie tops itself with epic set piece after epic set piece. One of the greatest action films of all time

I Saw The TV Glow- Beautiful, no other word can describe it, but watch me try anyways. A haunting story about not feeling quite right in your own skin, that something isn't right in your life, that something about you isn't quite right. That freeing feeling of finding someone close to you through common interest, yet fear keeping you from following them as they change to be who they want to be. That fear paralyzes the protagonist but the film assures them and you the audience on one fact.

I needed to hear this. I needed to see some of my deepest fears thrown in my face. I needed to be reassured I'm not wasting my time, that the hour glass is far from empty. I needed to see the TV glow. If you feel as I did, please, I implore you to watch this film.
