Eros: 1-3 (for Tsuniah.)
From: OC Questions on the Seven Forms of Love.
â For @/MoroaicaVamp (on Twitter)
(I am once again sparing others from rambles with a "read more" cut.) đ«
Eros â Romantic, Passionate Love. 1. Is your OC romantic in the traditional sense? Do they enjoy giving or receiving gifts of flowers or confectionary? Or are there other courtship traditions from their culture of origin that are important to them?
He's totally into traditional romantic gestures. As an entertainer at heart, he's gotta give it everything he's got too! He will give gifts, set up all sorts of cute date ideas, the whole nine yards. He'll spoil the heck out of a partner, if given the chance.
I would say dance was a big part of his upbringing, in particular, so to share a dance - particularly a lot of Latin American-esque styles such as salsa, samba, etc. if we're talking cultural origins - will always be a romantic thing. Its significance is part of what led him to be a dance teacher along with the whole flair bartender fiasco.
While as an instructor, he clearly doesn't always dance with others with the intent to court them, but he firmly believes in the confidence, charisma and romance of dance. He wishes to teach that along the way too, passing on the traditions of his family of yore. đâ€ïž
Eros â Romantic, Passionate Love. 2. How important is sex to them in a relationship? Do they see it as something essential to their happiness? Would they be able to remain in a monogamous relationship with someone they loved without sex?
Tsuniah's into it, of course, but I wouldn't say it's essential to a relationship. He might struggle a bit with maintaining a relationship like that, but he could do it if he had some serious feelings for that partner. He absolutely could do it as he has done it before.
There's a sad part of his past hiding there. It involved having a partner that fell ill and her illness affected her all across the board; needless to say, this included her libido. It's somewhat reminiscent of James and Mary's story (Silent Hill 2) only Tsuniah decided to be a better guy in pretty much every single way.
(That experience sticks with him to this day as well. Sadly, he has some long term commitment issues because of it. As well meaning as he is in a relationship, it is admittedly something he has to face at some point in one, if things get serious. Human lives are known to not mesh well with those of Ethereal kind. Their fragility is no exception.)
Eros â Romantic, Passionate Love. 3. How do they feel about public displays of romantic affection? Does it make them uncomfortable? How do they feel if a romantic partner kisses them in public?
He's super chill with it. Doesn't bother him in the slightest, provided it isn't too vulgar (once again, he's a bartender. "Vulgar," which often involves intoxicated folks, gets old and it's just tacky, really. He'd discourage that kind of behavior from a partner as well!)
Much like I mentioned with Sal in the previous post, he'd play with the tension of denied PDA in a relationship too - only he'd be WAY more obvious with no need to be warmed up to it. As an entertainer and more charismatic sort than her, it's just... kind of part of the program. Haha!
#Aaaand some more questions answered!#This time#for a character I don't really talk much about here#He's a significant part of Sal's life#though#to be fair#And the trio do end up seeing him at some point!#Anyway...#thank you for the questions!#đ#that's a good question â#Tsuniah đșđč

Q: This is a real life "what would you do." You have been hired as a guard instructor for a top 10 DCI World color guard ( top 5 the previous year)based on your skills, expertise, and reputation.. .on your first day on the job, the twenty-year-old female flag captain walks up to you and says, "Hi, my name is XX and I am the flag captain. We don't want you here. Please leave." How would you handle this situation (it happened an hour ago)?
"Would you like to come with me to talk to the caption head about what you said, or shall I go alone?"
I wasn't there, I don't know you, and I don't know the situation. But here is what I do know:
It is absolutely not appropriate for a captain to "address" an issue by speaking to anyone the way she spoke to you. The first thing that needs to be conveyed is how absolutely unacceptable her approach was - is that how she thinks her job should be done? Is that how she plans to handle further interpersonal issues? That kind of "leadership" risks not only the success of the season but the future of the program - we've all seen the warnings not to march certain programs and many of them start with someone who says some shit like this.
With that being said, you also need to get to why she said what she did. What is wrong that she felt compelled to make you feel unwelcome in the program? Are you replacing a beloved tech and vets are unhappy with the change? Did you come in like a wrecking ball with a type of teaching style or method that doesn't mesh with what the norm is for the program? Did you make a lot of critiques or give out a lot of punishment? It's possible she has a real point behind the bullshit way she made it. It's also possible it's nonsense. Let her speak either way and try not to interrupt or defend - wait your turn and act professional. Maybe you'll realize you were a little too my way or the highway, maybe you'll realize she just doesn't like you for vague idiot reasons.
At the end of the conversation, she may or may not walk away with a resolution, but you need to walk away knowing your caption head is supporting you and fostering the right kind of culture. It's honestly a bit of a red flag that she felt comfortable enough to do that in the first place... is that abnormal behavior or are the performers allowed to be any type of way without repercussions? Just something to keep an eye on as you move forward.
I hope the situation is handled appropriately and that you can enjoy the rest of the season. What a shitty start.

Since I turned 16 yesterday, can I get some headcanons of when Molly starts to drive or starts learning to drive? (I HC that Giovanni offers to teach her because "Percy taught me, and I did great!" and Percy immediately shuts that down.)
OH ABSOLUTELY THAT HAPPENS
Molly is terrified of learning, honestly; she doesnât like the thought of controlling a giant metal machine that could kill herself or something else just because she pushed a pedal too hard
Percy is a very good instructor, though; her teaching style meshes with Mollyâs learning style
Sheâs also very patient and upliftingâ moreso than she was with Gio, but itâs Molly, who can blame her?
Remembering all the rules of the road isnât difficult for Molly; her biggest problem is getting over her anxiety of things that feel dangerous so she can actually do things to keep her out of danger (e.x. driving the speed limit on the freeway)
The first place Molly learns to drive is out near Redwood Run, in an isolated patch with no buildings or people around
Percy is insistent that she practices regularly, so when sheâs super busy with work, she actually has Howie take over
Howie is also a VERY good teacher, though sometimes his methods feels like the master from Karate Kid. Once he makes her spin the tires on purpose, he always forces Molly to keep the windows rolled down (even though she doesnât like the outside noise), and he has her practice on the bumpiest roads
Eventually, he explains that heâs making her learn the feeling of control over the car, because if she feels like sheâs the one in control then the size of it wonât cause her anxiety anymore
The day Molly gets her permit, both Howie and Percy take her out to lunch to celebrate
#happy b-day btw! :O#submitted headcanon#requested headcanons#answered headcanons#driving saga#MOLLY IS PART OF THE DRIVING SAGA NOW#ice-the-irken#percival king#percy king#molly blyndeff#lawful good mom#howie honeyglow#all work and no play#aroace family unit

ONF MEMBERS AS YOUR SIBLING (U & Laun version)
Either you are related from Yuto or Minseok side and either one of them later joined the family. Confusing? OK example you are Yuto's sibling by blood and then later Minseok joined. Or in reversed, Yuto joined later.
Or You are the youngest sibling (could be in terms age when the family comes together or you being born later)
Or, You are the eldest.
Any scenario that is suitable to your own imagination. Also there will be some repeated ideas fron first universe because i would like to keep characterization consistency.
Btw this pair of sibling would be one of the less noisy siblings of all.
My recommendation, your birthday is in older than both of them. But you can totally imagine that your are younger ones. I will try to elaborate both, I hope i won't confuse you guysđ
Also i recommend, if you are going to imagine yourself as eldest, you are 2 to 3 years older. While if you are the youngest, you would be 5 to 7 years younger.
Scenario 1
If you are related with Yuto and Minseok is the new join
You Defo speaking Japanese comfortably
Your parent moved the family to Korea (or minseok family moved to Japan is doable too). You and Yuto attending school at Korea so you two speak somewhat decent Korean.
And your parent met with Minseok parent then they decided to tie the knot.
Your parents decided to have a dinner before wedding so that you kids can know each other before hand
Btw it would be a lie if you did not once considered Minseok is cute (non romantic way)
Maybe Minseok is not studying in the same school as yours/Yuto's. But it is doable too if he is. Even being classmate with Yuto
(It will a callback to onf meme if your side of family is maternal side so your parent took in Minseok family name. And then Mizuguchi Yuto also known as Kim Yuto lol)
Minseok already excited to have Yuto (a Japanese) as sibling, even more excited to have you too. Especially if you are the elder sister/sibling
Minseok explaining to Yuto about meme or idioms or weird metaphors seen in TV
You found out Minseok sneakily munching ice cream in the fridge in early morning to wake himself up (which is a weird way in your common sense) and then understood he cannot handle coffee. If you are an employed sibling, you might offer to drive him to school/University and let him sleep in your car while you are driving. (this is if both Yuto and Minseok attended different schools/University)
Minseok has many questions, asking about both of your experience in korea, asking about Japanese cultures, and even asking you both for help on Japanese
Minseok taking Japanese classes online and dedicated to one day properly converse in Japanese with you and Yuto
Learning some Osaka dialect from Yuto and you. And maybe both of you talks in the dialect so much that it affects Minseok's beginner Japanese. Cues in Minseok once flustered when his online instructor asked why his intonation sounds mixed with osaka accent.
Of course you both will chill him a bit mentioning is fine because you both are OK with korean too. But Minseok looks up to the effort of both of you learning a foreign language, hence he continues with learning Japanese until he is somewhat fluent.
As Yuto's sibling, you know your brother is the quiet side when he is trying to adjust. Bonus if you are a sister and you hope the boys could bond, you might help out by leaking some information of Yuto's preference to Minseok. Example like Xmas gift or birthday gift
Once they opened up, your job is done đ. Maybe you move out and then once in a while return home and seeing them two playing games together or even inmersed in dance cover/tutorial videos
If have the same characteristic of laughter as Yuto, Minseok's usual âșđ is very unusual to you
Maybe you might ask "Minseok ah how can stay calm and smiling like usual when we are already dying of laughter?"
Minseok just scratches his head and replies you with his innocent eyes, "I was laughing and nearly losing my breath though?"
Them two defo bond with dancing and songs they like. But mostly dancing. Could be something one of your parents brought it up during the dinner and both Minseok and Yuto's eyes glimmers for a short while as if they found comrade lol
By the way of you happened to be the younger sibling of Yuto in this scenario, Minseok being a new elder brother is just the best thing of all. He will share food or stuff with you the most. I do feel he will do that more if you are a sister. Not sure because he is the new joined, he is trying hard very much to be attentive to everyone. Or, he just does not want you to feel left out as now there is 2 boys in house and you did not have a sister to bond with
When you have problems, both Yuto and Minseok will listen to you attentively. Depends on what problem was it you will go to different person to consult with. Yuto is your sibling and he knew you long and well enough, so if you want a more unbiased view you would go to Minseok.
Yes Minseok smiles alot but when he is concentrating into something important (also means listening to your concerns), his expression goes into a serious mode and you never knew he had that.
Also it will be a nice contrast if you are the fearless one and the boys are the scaredy cat. I will elaborate at Scenario 2
Scenario 2
If you are related with Minseok and Yuto is the new joined (by the way if not sibling, Yuto honestly as exchange student is also definitely doable for this one. I wont be separately writing about this soon I will mesh this into sibling au.)
Even thought alot similar with scenario 1, I will try to add more variety
Both are excited to meet Yuto
prior to your parents wedding, they decided to have a dinner hope you kids can know each other before hand
You and your brother noticed the new soon to be sibling is quite quiet in personality.
He smiles alot
One of the parent brought up dancing and mentioned it, you definitely saw them two looking very much brighten up and cannot wait to talk to each other to find out more.
You 3 exchanged numbers but mostly is just Yuto and Minseok texting each other more. And you are happy that your brother get to know someone with similar preferences
Maybe in this scenario its only Minseok who is dedicated to learn Japanese.
Probably you 3 bond by playing games, Mario kart maybe? And that is the first time Yuto showed himself. Loud laughs, loud wails when your car accidentally bumped on his.
Only then he starts getting more comfortable with his new siblings
Yuto's laugh is contagious.
Sometimes in charge for dinner and he cooks japanese style
Also you might see Yuto tapping on Minseok with music on just to teach him about the beat in the music when they are discussing on choreography. And your brother just sits there receiving all the tappings (this happens in other scenarios too but its more significant here)
Learning some Osaka dialect from Yuto. And maybe Yuto talks in the dialect so much that it affects Minseok's beginner Japanese. Cues in Minseok once flustered when his online instructor asked why his intonation sounds mixed with osaka accent.
Nope, its a bad idea to bring them to haunted house. Not even roller coaster. Maybe there is once your parents brought you 3 to Japan for vacation and you all stop by at Fuiikyu Highland (a theme park in japan) that day and both of your brothers regret their life choices for placing Fujikyu first and Universal studio for the next day.
One of them maybe "WHY CAN'T WE JUST GO TO UNIVERSAL STUDIO AT OSAKA INSTEAD?!!!!!"
Another one nearly crying " WHY CAN'T WE SKIP TODAY AND FAST FORWARD TO TOMORROW INSTEAD?!!!!"
Scenario 3
If you are the child that born later from your parents marriage
This timeline, Minseok and Yuto has gotten more comfortable with each other mother tongue but still learning
They are best buds right now
They value you a lot. Leo is very attentive and showering you with straightforward love and Pisces is a bit of tsundere but a lot of small gestures showing his affection towards younger sibling
I think both brothers will cradle you when you are still a baby. Of course involving some panicking when they first time trying to hold you. Minseok loves to gently rub his cheek on yours, he cannot help it lol(yes like how SoonYoung/Hoshi from Svt). And Yuto always love to caress your head
Overall they are very protective. In a bit different ways. Minseok would be the attentive protective type, while Yuto be like "Run along my young one, but remember big brother is here."
I dunno why but I do see you converse with Yuto in Japanese and Minseok in korean
Sometimes being the middle person to teach/help them with the unfamiliar language. You grow with 2 languages that is why in comparison, you might be the most fluent person handling and juggling 2 languages in the household
Scene like Minseok trying to express himself in japanese with Yuto and he kinda stuck with the word and your second brother turn to you asking you whats that is korean and you just nonchalantly tell Yuto what Minseok has been trying to convey
Purposely integrate this here. You 3 are very interested in dancing. Guess its in the blood if you sort out the equation. I also think that you used to watch them dancing very much and it got into your trait/character
Maybe your memory is not the precise type so they coach you alot regarding to sequence. No worries when it comes to the strength and timing when comes to dance moves, you are their sibling after all.
Uploads dance covers of you 3 to YouTube
Either you are not the scaredy among the sibling or maybe you are also the scaredy cat lol
If you are not scaredy cat, they might look at you with amaze when you dared to watch horror movie, ALONE.
I dun think you would be the evil prankster sibling in the household. You might lean on the omg why can't they understand the beauty of horror
People definitely are going to "cannot believe their ears" when they hear you 3 conversing in both Korean and Japanese, switching the language back and forth
A/N: is was longer than i expected? I got info from kprofiles that they are both isfj. Which makes actually them are the quiet ones compare to other hyungs. Hope its not too boring for your preference. Anyways see you soon!

âEnglish and Edwardâs accented voice.â âAmestrian or another foreign language.â âWritten notes.â âThoughts.â First Name: Informal Last Name: Formal (Or used to annoy others)
"He's soooooooo cuuuuuute! And tiny!"
Four British Wizard Government Officials watched, completely flabbergasted, as the Emperor of Xing hugged Filius Flitwick. Said professor looked like he was in a state of complete shock. All he talked about was how tiny Flitwick was and how much he wanted him to keep him. The man's guard stood less than three feet away, shaking their head in complete embarrassment.
Ling looked up at Lan Fan, who was looking at him from behind her mask with a knowing annoyed look. She already knows what he was about to say. Ling poked Filius cheek continuously as he spoke to her with his request. "Can I keep? Can I? Please? He's a novelty!"
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"Please."
"No."
"But, but, but, but..."
"No. That is final."
-.-
Edward stared at his first class, which compromised of five students. They were already seated around the classroom according to their house, this prompted Edward to twitch in annoyance. This alone showed how divided the houses were in the school. The two Ravenclaw's were sitting up front with parchment and a feather in hand to take notes. The Slytherin and Gryffindor were seated at the far ends of the classroom glaring at the each other. The Hufflepuff sitting in the back glancing around worriedly and that just made Edward wonder how exactly this school could run with sort of tension coursing around. This was something that he does not want in his class, they are going to need to work together to pull through his class. Of course, competition is good and all, however... that tends to lead to disastrous mistakes.
"I am going to need the rest of you to sit in the front." Edward stated he motioned for the Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff to come forward. He made the Gryffindor and Slytherin sit next to each other with the Hufflepuff sitting in between the Slytherin and one of Ravenclaws. Finally making the other Ravenclaw sit next to the Gryffindor, hopefully, there will be some sort of communication between all four houses. Hopefully...
The students glanced at each other wondering what exactly they were getting themselves into. None of them know anything about their current instructor, let alone his teaching style for that matter. Is he like Professor Snape, Professor Flitwick or Professor McGonagall? They know that the Alchemy Professor is one good term with the former of the two, the latter...not so much. For all they know, Professor Elric could be just as worse than all three professors combined. Oh, how right they are...
"My name is Edward Elric; you are to refer to me as Mr. Elric. Is that understood?" Edward inwardly smirked at how uncomfortable he made them. The responses he got made him frown momentarily, it was an echo of 'yes sir' and it only reminded him back at the military. To be more precise, Roy Mustang, that left a bad taste in his mouth. "Good... Before we actually start I have to say this... At any moment, I will kick you out if you cross a certain line. Warnings are given, depends on how much you pissed me off that moment."
Tension filled the room and it only got worse as Edward told his students what he expects from them and giving them multiple chances to escape. He made it a point that the Golden Haired male did not care about which house they belong in, their blood-status, or their status within the school. No one was safe from anything. The only thing that matters is their intellect, open-mindedness and someone that enjoys a challenge. Cross him, then it could be the very last thing they will ever do.
"Is that understood?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good...Let us talk about the reason all of you took this exam?" Edward picked up a small pile on his desk and raised it up toward the direction of his students. The pile was compromised of their exams, and from what they could see, they are marked over with red ink. Corrections? "Vat is your reasons to learn Alchemy...lie and you are kicked out."
One by one, the students responded to Edward's question in complete honesty. It either had to do with the wanting to be truthful or said it out of sheer fear and intimidation. The color of their instructor's eyes, a shade they never have seen before in their lives.
Edward took in their answers with either a curt nod or a shrug. The answers he got were what he expected from this group. All the answers correspond to the students having an open mind towards Alchemy. Not the Alchemy they thought it to be, something completely different and new. They are keeping an open mind on the entire subject. With a smirk, Edward handed out the exams. "We will go over the first and second section of the exam. Your five did worse in that portion of the exam."
-.-
Dumbledore stared into a Pensieve, reviewing past memories. Memories that revolved with the former Alchemy Professor, someone that he swore has more secrets than himself for that matter. The first time that he first saw Van Hohenheim, he knew something was different about the man. It was a similar aura that Mr. Elric gave off when he first met him, only far more different. Darker, repressed and right down infuriating for the fact the old wizard did not figure him out before his untimely demise.
Mr. Elric had informed him, several Ministry Officials, and others that Hohenheim is his 'insert an offensive word here' father. That said man was found dead next to his wife's grave with a smile, thus turning the disappearance to be marked off as dead. The only proof he had they were related is a faded out muggle photograph of two young boys, a smiling brunette and a weeping Hohenheim. It sort of helped that Mr. Elric looked so much like the man...
Van Hohenheim was a complete enigma for Dumbledore; he doesn't remember how exactly they started to converse about Magic and Alchemy. It was oh so similar to the meeting between himself and Hohenheim's son. Meeting at a small eatery and when they first made eye contact, everything changed. A simple conversation that turned into a deep discussion of Magic and Alchemy, apparently Hohenheim was in the area to study magic and advancement of Alchemy. Dumbledore had made an offer of inviting him to teach at Hogwarts to help him further his quest. For whatever reason, there was a familiar twinkle in Hohenheim eyes when he mentioned the school. A look of recognition was the only to describe that twinkle.
No matter how much Dumbledore prodded Hohenheim for the reason behind that look. It didn't help when the Golden-haired male had entered his office. All the paintings of previous headmasters and headmistresses all looked at him with wide eyes before they ran off leaving every painting bare of said person. Whenever Dumbledore asked any of them for their actions, they kept tight-lipped or start mumbling on about the truth of the world. Complete and utter nonsense to him, how does truth have sin? For then, Dumbledore kept quiet until Hohenheim told him what he wanted to know. Now he will never get those answers from him...perhaps he could still get them from the Alchemist's son.
However, there is a huge difference between Van Hohenheim and his son Edward Elric. Hohenheim was soft-hearted, goofy, and right down a pacifist. Mr. Elric is strong-willed, selfish, hostile, quick-tempered... the list goes on that was so different from his father. Both men are vastly different but hold similar secrets. Secrets Dumbledore plans on finding out one way or another. It will be a matter of time...
-.-
Archie Stanley has been part of the British Ministry of Magic for the last 11 years and counting. He has just been put in charge of the expedition to Xing and get in contact with Elric's brother and attempt to contact with the Emperor of Xing. He, three fellow colleagues and Professor Flitwick flued to a certain location in Xing, which to all their surprise ended up in the Palace. The same Palace where the Emperor lives, this brought up questions of how exactly Elric knew the proper address. Before anyone could compliment on that thought, a young man dressed in what they presumed in royal clothing, rushed over and grabbed hold of Professor Flitwick.
The young man appeared to be gushing over Professor Flitwick and poking his excessively. Seriously out of nowhere, another figure appeared wearing a mask and told the young man something a reprimanding tone. He and his colleagues watched with complete gobsmacked expressions at the sight before them. They were completely unaware of another individual walking up towards him.
"My apologies... His Majesty is uh... overly excitable?"
Archie was the first one to break out of his trace to see a young man that looked to be in his mid-to-late teens, who looked so similar to Elric. Only the young man in front of him doesn't look like he is about to chew his head off at any moment. His voice is far more soft-spoken, speaking with a strong accent but his word was clearly said in English and is wearing a dull colored eastern-style clothing. "Alphonse Elric?"
"Yes." Alphonse replied with a nervous smile, he scratched the back of his head with his right arm. "You are...?"
"My name is Archie Stanley, I am here represe-"
"I WANT HIM!"
Alphonse shook his head, muttering something in a different language before he walked towards the reason behind the scream. Archie watched with raised eyebrows as Alphonse reached over and pulled Professor Flitwick out of the whining Emperor. Eyebrows furrowed deep in thought now, Archie has no clue how to proceed from there. The main goal, the actual goal, is getting a foothold into the country through its ruler.
'This puts a damper on our plans.'
-.-
Ling sat in one of his many private rooms which he used for meeting. He listened with curiosity to what Alphonse was translating to him from what the foreigners were telling them. Alphonse clearly was playing with them, playing the naïve act. Ling inwardly snorted at that thought. Mei was right; he clearly was a bad influence on the guy. Then again, it had helped Alphonse grow as a person compared to how he first met the former suit of armor. To act how people expect you to act to allow their guards to go down and in turn, exploit every second of it.
Ling could clearly tell using his senses that there are several ulterior motives for these wizards to enter Xing. He read up with what had occurred all those years ago, the last thing he needed is history repeating itself. Glancing around the room at certain spots, gauging them, two spots were of Lan Fan and his sister, Mei, hidden away. Both of them ready at any moment for danger geared towards himself and Alphonse. The look of curiosity on his expression fell when Ling looked at a medallion that was hanged on his left, shimmered less than a half a second. He sent a silent signal for Lan Fan and Mei to stay hidden as one of the Wizards had not so discreetly hide a stick back into his clothing. Said man had a look of confusion for whatever reason, it only got worse the more Ling spoke in his native tongue with Alphonse.
"Did you see that?" Ling hummed out, his lips curled up with his infamous smile. "I wonder what he attempted to do?"
"Do you want me to get rid of them?" Alphonse asked with a laugh, his naĂŻve act still up to not deter the Wizards. His eyes conveyed a whole different story, they seemed to sharpen and he keeps slipping his hands into his long sleeves. "Mr. Flitwick already left with the chest, big brother said he only trusted him...not them."
"Naw." Ling waved him off. "Let them have their fun. I want to see what they could give us if whatever they did were to cause harm then the medallion would have reflected it back right at them."
"You know what...I give up." Alphonse raised his arms into the air in defeat.
"Ah, brother-in-law...you should have given up a long time ago."
"Could you stop calling me that...?"
"It's a matter of time until you and Mei will marry, you might as well get used it!"
"...We aren't even dating yet..."
"Ah, hah! So you do want to be with her!"
"I give up...."
Whilst Alphonse and Ling lightly bickered, the three Wizards glanced at each other and whispered amount themselves with looks of complete befuddlement.
"Why didn't it work?"
"We still can't understand them."
"How did that not work?"
-.-
Edward paced around Dumbledore's office; he kept stealing glances over at the fireplace with a look of complete apprehension. He had to repress a shudder every time he did so. After seeing several individuals appear out of the fire and disappear back into the fire, it still was a lot to process. His first class had just ended and now he is waiting for Filius return from Xing. No one else was in the office; Dumbledore had said something about getting sweets from a village near the school. Edward would have wanted Severus to be there but the older male had classes to teach. It left the young Elric pace around the office with a full audience.
"He looks just like Von Hohenheim."
"Too much like him for my taste."
"I wonder how Albus managed to get him here?"
"The promise of knowledge? You know how those types are."
"So says you. You were the first one to bring the man here 400 years ago!"
"In my defense, you brought him here 300 years ago."
"...Albus brought him here a couple of time in his lifetime."
The paintings in the office were completely unaware that Edward is now staring at all of them. A frown etched onto his expression. He already knew that his shitty father had been to Hogwarts before, is he surprised by what he is hearing? Nope. None whatsoever, after hearing exactly just who his father is...nothing about Hohenheim could possibly surprise him.
"Shitty father." Edward muttered under his breath, his expression went from annoyance to anxiousness when he felt a familiar shake. It wasn't so much for the reason for the use of floo powder that as him on edge. It was seeing someone disappear seemingly out of nowhere in a huge flash of light is what has him over the edge. It was so much like the Gate that leads to the horrifying Truth. Not a second later, Filius walked out of the fireplace with a petrified expression. What he muttered under his breath had Edward wince in complete sympathy.
"Never again...I will not return back there... complete and utter lack of..." Filius muttered under his breath repeatedly, he hardly bothered to acknowledge Edward's presence in the office. The Charm's Professor muttered under his breath about Xing Emperor's behavior while he headed out of the office with Edward trailing behind him. "Never again!"
'Good thing Severus didn't go in Filius place.'
-.-
"...The talismans were created to ward off spells, to protect himself and future rulers of Xing from anything that want to cause them to harm with magic. It's a safety precaution." Ling stated once the 3 Government Wizard Officials had left. "They believe they could entice us with their magic tricks."
"Wow...you actually sounded mature for once in your life."
"Lan Fan! Mei is making fun of me again!"
"And he's back..."
Alphonse chuckled at the scene before him, Ling and Mei bicker while Lan Fan watched on wondering how to intervene without overstepping her boundaries. He glanced down at a low table to see several documents the Wizards had left behind for Ling. It mostly composed of what was needed for Ling to know about Magical Great Britain, rules, and possible treaties. A shiver ran down Alphonse's spine the further he read into it and matched it with what the Wizards had him translate just made everything sickly-sweet. Then again, Ling had him say to them even out the playing field, even so, it still left an empty feeling within him.
Alphonse saw that one of the papers was marked with Ling's writing, his brows furrowed at what was written. It was a list of things that Ling wants from this whole ordeal. What was wanted didn't really surprise the Alchemist, if anything it actually made sense.
Healers...
Herbologist...
Potioneer...
It made some sense, it with Xing's culture that revolved around medicine, just look at the type of Alchemy they do. Then there were other things that caused Alphonse to raise an eyebrow in bafflement.
Curse-Breakers...
Dragonologist...
Curse-Breakers...okay, the Golden Blonde allowed that to slide but the second one...not so much. In the end though, he could only blame Edward for getting them into that situation. 'What have you gotten us into, big brother?'
-.-
Edward paced around his room with a list in hand that his brother had created. The list was of all the items Alphonse packed in the Xingese styled trunk, which was tucked into a random corner of the room. The list was pretty much straightforward and there were more items his brother had anticipated he would need for his classes. It saved time for both of them, that's for sure. Edward made a mental to send out magical sweets for his brother and friends for helping him.
'This reminds me...I still have to find the library.' Edward thought he glanced over his shoulder to see a stack of graded exams. It only made him push back his plans of looking for the library until everything calms down just enough. That last thought made him groan. Even if it was the first day of class, he expected at least one student to not show up and another to quit midway through. It would have been so much easier for him than have to kick them out. That would be much easier than having to kick them out later on. As the grounds for being kicked out usually resulted in him getting pissed off and that would lead to far more trouble for him.
The last thing Edward needed is people whining and attempt to get back at him. Normally this would not have been an issue, but since he has no way to backing himself against these people. Plus, physical punishments are a huge no-no here. Too much trouble for his own taste...
Edward's head suddenly snapped upwards, mentally swearing he heard a familiar laugh ranged out through his ears. 'Great...Now I'm hearing things again...'

A Natural History of Tatooine, part 23/?
Luke and Callista discuss marriage and children in a scene that is a direct response to a particularly infuriating section of Darksaber. Also, daily life at the Jedi Academy.
(People who have read my other fics will know that making the characters happy right before everything goes to hell is one of my favorite literary tropes.)
(Previous installments)
"Did you ever want to have children?" Luke asked Callista one day. They stood on the balcony of Luke's quarters on the upper level of the main temple, watching the sunset and waiting for the bell to ring for evening meditation.
"I mean, yes. Someday. It just never seemed like the right time. And then the Clone Wars came and everything was in disarray, it <i>definitely</i> wasn't the right time. And then, just as things startled to settle down--"
"The Empire," Luke finished.
"Yes. And after that--having children was the last thing on my mind." She played with a tendril of passionvine intent on tangling its way across the railing.
"So now...?" Luke prompted after a long pause.
"I don't know," Callista said at last. "I don't know--if they'd be mine or Cray's."
"Genetically speaking, probably Cray's. But who knows? Your hair is coming back in the old color, and your voice is different from her--and so are your eyes. Given how your spirit shines through her body, I suppose there's only one way to find out."
"Try it and see what happens?" she said, with a gleam in her eye. She turned away to look out at the view. "Well, I have to admit that scares me."
"Why?"
A very long pause. "I'm afraid any children I have would inherit my Force blindness?"
"So what?" Luke repeated. "It doesn't matter to me."
"Shouldn't the first Jedi Master of the new order have Jedi children?"
"I don't think I have to personally spawn the new order myself," he said carefully. "In fact, Yoda and Ben would probably hate it if I did. They didn't think that Jedi should marry and have children. My father Anakin defied the Order to marry my mother in secret. He probably would have been happier with Djinn Altis's group," he added as an afterthought. Â
"Perhaps," she agreed, though she still wouldn't meet his gaze. "But I just--"
"Anyway, Leia's children are Force-sensitive, and Han is not, so who's to say they would be Force blind? And Cray was Force-sensitive, so if you are genetically Cray, then there's no reason to assume--"
"I guess you're right," she said, turning to face him at last. "Put that way, it sounds so cold. So clinical. So... Imperial. As if we were building a dynasty."
"I mean, I'm not averse to the idea, but I'm also not wedded to it--" Luke started, as he leaned over to embrace her. He stopped abruptly as an idea occurred to him. "Should we get married?" he asked after a moment.
"I don't know," she said. "I want to--Luke, truly, I do, I just--too much has happened. Too fast. I'm still getting used to it all. Let's take it slow."
"All right," he agreed, though he couldn't deny his disappointment. Still, there was no point in rushing her. "I can do slow. After all, a Jedi is very.... very... patient."
They both dissolved into giggles and the tension passed.
***
The days quickly settled into a routine. Luke and Callista rose at dawn, slipping on their robes and sandals in silence, threading their way through ancient stone corridors and the early morning haze to the meditation hall with the rest of the community. They sat cross-legged next to each other on dark cushions for an hour, stepping aside from the endless river of their thoughts to listen to the sound of their breathing and the squawking clamor of the pikka birds as they announced the return of the sun.
After breakfast, the community gathered in the central courtyard for morning announcements before splitting off for training. Since his return to Yavin, Luke had spent most of his time with Kirana Ti, coaching her as she strengthened her considerable Force powers, and answering her questions as best he could. A frequent debate was how best to adapt the Academy model to Dathomiri society when it was time for her to return to her home planet, and how to nip potential problems in the bud.
Callista's mornings were far more varied. In the beginning, she rotated between Luke, Kam, Tionne, and Mara, working one on one with them as they tried everything they could think of to restore her connection to the Force. Luke was nervous the first time Callista and Mara worked together, but it seemed to go well; Callista reported that Mara was polite enough, if a bit standoffish. He realized later that he was disappointed that two of the most important people in his life were never going to be friends.
Callista only tried to work with Corran once; it didn't go well. Of all the students who had trained at the Academy thus far, only Dorsk 81 and Nichos had ever had the temperament to mesh well with Corran. He was far more powerful than Tionne, but much worse at teaching--Corran admitted as much--but until they had more instructors, they were stuck with him.
After a few weeks, at Tionne's suggestion and with Luke's blessing, Callista began to offer her own classes for the students and teachers alike. She drawing on her considerable memories of Jedi history and lore, much of which she had personally experienced. She couldn't personally assist the students in carrying out the exercises she described, but under her guidance, Luke saw the quality of instruction at the academy blossom and expand beyond his wildest dreams. It didn't bring back her connection with the Force, but it made her feel appreciated and valued, and Luke was grateful for it.
After lunch, the community would meet again for the work assignments and chores necessary to keep everything running, from cleaning the bathhouse and guest rooms to tending the grounds to assisting the Head Cook and the kitchen droids with meal preparations. Callista threw herself eagerly into every assignment she was given. Since Force powers were rarely helpful in these sorts of work, she was more or less on even footing with the rest of the community and was rarely reminded of her loss.
Luke spent the work periods in his office, answering his messages and checking the accounts, though Mara was responsible for most of the day-to-day operations of the resort portion of the business. Corran, down the hall, managed vetting the guests and overall security, but Luke made a point to look over his shoulder now and again to know who and what to expect wandering the grounds and soaking in the baths. With several kidnapping attempts against Leia's children, it was best to be cautious.
After the work period ended, it was time for recreation. Luke spent most of those late afternoons wandering on foot with Callista or taking his airspeeder out for a spin over the treetops. She was particularly fascinated by the complex architecture of the temple complex, and they spent many hours exploring above and below ground, marveling at the sophisticated art of a vanished civilization.
Having spent her childhood on a raft-community on one of the vast oceans of Chad, Callista never failed to marvel at the vast forest stretching out in every direction, just as Luke had done since his first visit to Yavin when it served as headquarters for the Rebellion. Her unfailing zest for life, her laughter, her sense of humor and the absurd and the ridiculous had survived her resurrection more or less intact, and meshed neatly with his own.
"If you don't have a sense of humor, you're dead," she told him one afternoon as they made their way back to the temple, exhausted and covered in mud, but happy.
"<i>You</i> had a sense of humor when you were dead," he teased.
"Not <i>quite</i> dead," she corrected, laughing even as she said it.
Some days, they sparred in the dojo under Traitakh's watchful eye and the blank-eyed stares of the ysalamiri on their nutrient frames. Luke was nervous about sparring with her with open lightsabers, but he shouldn't have been. Callista had been training in sword-forms since she was twelve; she could easily best him if he was careless, especially when he couldn't draw on the Force for help. She knew many things he didn't, and under her careful tutelage, Luke found himself improving by leaps and bounds. Â
"Your style is so... rough," Callista said, after the first session. "If I didn't know better, I'd say it was 'unpolished'. Like a jewel pulled directly from the earth."
"That's because I didn't really have a teacher," Luke explained. "Yoda and I never studied combat. I just... did what I had to do."
"You fought Darth Vader and <i>lived</i>. How many people can claim that?"
"I'm still not sure how I survived, to be honest. It helped that he probably wasn't trying to kill me, even at the very end."
"I suppose so. But that doesn't make your form any less impressive under the circumstances," Callista said, stopping to stroke the rough pebbled back of a ysalamir. "Tionne doesn't like these big lizards, but I think they're cute. I've been helping Traitakh take care of them during work period sometimes, since no one else wants to do it."
Aside from Luke, Traitakh was the only member of the community whom Callista was close to. It pained Luke that her only friend was the one non-Force sensitive person at the academy, but he held his tongue. All of the students or instructors were polite to her, but none of them--even Tionne--had tried to get close. He didn't know how to bridge the gap.
After the exercise period, it was time to bathe. Callista loved the hot springs and the bathhouse, and they went every day in the late afternoon when the sun was level in the sky next to the fiery orb of the Yavin gas giant, but the shadows in the bathhouse were cool. They split up to enter the bathhouse, each washing on the side of their respective gender, only to meet up a short while later in the private teacher's pool, which they usually had to themselves. Then it was time for dinner, after which those who had foregone the afternoon work period assisted with the guests' dinner and with the meal clean-up, and then it was back to the meditation hall for another hour of silence and stillness before bed.
In theory, Callista had inherited Cray and Nichos's quarters, but in practice, she spent her nights with Luke. It was good not to be alone again, good to have someone to share his days with, a friend and ally he could count on. And no matter how restless his sleep, it was good not to be alone at night.

It is once again time for me to take stock of "things I think I should do" vs "things I want to do" vs "things I will actually do", a tripartite Venn diagram which often involves very little intersection. I have been taking a barre class on and off for the past several months, because if I'm going to pretend I'm a real dancer now, I should probably do dancer things. It's not been going great. I've generally assumed it's because I have no idea what I'm doing. My overall strength and fitness is fine, but I don't know most of the ballet vocabulary (speaking actual French is useless most of the time), and even English phrases like 'don't drop into your knees' mean nothing to me. I've been trying my best anyway. The last time I failed at something, I assumed that I just wasn't good at that particular ballet whatzit, and commented that I'd just go off and do the thing until it stopped hurting to do it. "Hahaha, well..." says the instructor. What. I've been operating under the assumption that if I did these things enough, they would eventually stop being painful. Effort is fine; I can deal with sweat. But I thought the point was to work until the things that hurt only took effort, and didn't hurt anymore. Stretching works like that. The more you stretch, the more you can stretch, and eventually it just feels like unkinking things instead of trying to push limits. There are only three reasons to take up a hobby that you know damn well will be painful each and every time.
You want to achieve a goal so badly you don't care that it hurts.
You enjoy the activity so much you don't notice that it hurts.
You want to see how much hurting you can endure, and you're looking for a socially acceptable way to do it.
Ballet is an intensely athletic activity. I am duly impressed by people who do it well. It is not a look I like on me. Balletic styles are very sharply gendered. I adamantly, defiantly have mass and take up space, which is exactly the opposite of what you're going for in the feminine version of ballet. The masculine version involves more power moves like leaps and jumps, which is somewhat more appealing. I'm sure there exists an instructor somewhere who would be willing to teach that to me, but they do not work at the studio where I get free classes.
I enjoy neither the process of learning nor the process of performing ballet. Ballet pedagogy is very linear and rigid, and meshes poorly with my propensity for learning things sideways and out of order. The class feels like an endless series of petty corrections towards a goal I do not care about in the first place. Depending on what kind of day I'm having, sometimes flamenco class is an endless series of corrections, too, but that feels like it has a point -- when I get a flamenco sequence right, it feels like I've done something dramatic or graceful or otherwise intentionally aesthetic.
The barre instructor very kindly took time out of her day to painstakingly tweak my form until I was at least doing one of the exercises properly. My only reaction, which I voiced, was, "That feels bizarre." Ballet feels bizarre. On the rare occasion I get something right, I do not feel comfortable, or beautiful, or even accomplished. It is not, in any way, fun.
As for the third thing, I hurt enough as it is. My tolerance for pain and discomfort is so stupid high I once had a doctor politely remind me that I am allowed to call 911 when things go wrong, with the implication that I probably should have done that instead of just lying down and waiting for the meds to wear off. Testing my endurance is pointless, because anyone with a lick of sense would call off the test way before I cried uncle.Â
It sometimes takes me far too long to recognize when I'm trying to do things the 'normal' way just because it's 'normal' and just for once I don't want to be a goddamn alien. The barre class wasn't useless -- I learned a fair amount about mechanics and have some good balance exercises to do now when I'm bored and waiting for my pasta water to boil. But I think if I keep trying to succeed the way I'm "supposed" to I'm going to run myself into the ground.Â
I think I'm going to stick with modern dance, where the only criterion for success is, "Did that look the way you wanted it to?"Â

Hey you did taekwondo, correct? I'm heading to college in a few days and I was thinking about studying a different style of martial arts while I'm away. How did it treat you?
yyyYYYEEEAHHHH BOI i did taekwondo for about 14 years and only stopped because at the rank/age i am, theyâd have really have wanted to have me either go on the competition circuit or start teaching (iâm not good enough to compete a lot, and iâm a shit teacher. I just wanna train by myself, forever). eventually i kinda plateauâd because i hit third degree black belt and the only person who could really teach me... was the owner of the school, who had other students and couldnât focus on my freaky blood knight self, because she was the only person who outranked me. HOWEVER. I love love love taekwondo; i did Songham, which has a really big American Taekwondo Association presence, and it was great. It treated me really well, and my classes were often a mix of kids and adults. I find that itâs a pretty even split between men and women (and idk about nb presence because i wasnât out and didnât care. I just wanted to fight), both in students and instructors.
Taekwondo is a hard style, which i really like, but you can tailor it to your own interests and tastes too. Like weapons? Taekwondo has them. Wanna focus on self-defense? You can do that. Wanna learn all kinds of crazy flying kicks? That is literally its claim to fame. ATA schools especially are really good at teaching/accommodating different body types and conditions, while keeping all the students together, and injuries are pretty rare. Most of the injuries Iâve seen have been men in competitions, or straight up freak stuff (once saw a man rip his ACL landing correctly from a flying kick. idk dude). Depending upon your past experience, it might take some adjusting if youâre used to a softer style like aikido or wing chun, but it meshes well with most styles of karate iâve encountered, as well as some kung fu. Ground fighting techniques will be something youâll have to really seek out, probably in self-defense situations, so if youâre into judo itâll feel pretty different. U SHOULD DO IT

Battling Back Against Bullies
âThereâs no better lightning rod for your protection than your own spine.â A bit of truth from yesteryear courtesy of one Ralph Waldo Emerson. The famed American poet and philosopher may have died in the late 1800s, but the sentiment still holds true. Thereâs no better way to build up your âspine,â or in this case, your level of self-confidence, than learning how to defend yourself. That was the thinking behind the original debut for a kids MMA class at the Bullpen Fight Club back in 2013. Taught by unbeaten professional fighter Josh Baker and other members of the Bullpen, kids were able to come in and learn grappling and striking techniques from various disciplines. Some entered tournaments to test their skills, but it was never required. The aim was to teach the kids a functional form of martial arts. The classes went on hiatus for a while but were remodeled and brought back starting December 2019 in the form of a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu-centric class. âI had planned on making the switch to youth BJJ classes sooner, but my schedule was pretty tied up during the best window to make that happen,â Baker said. âThe kids in the classes were progressing well and learning how to protect themselves, but long term, I thought it would be more beneficial for them to have a deeper dive into Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.â Baker believes the best approach to learning self defense and mixed martial arts is to study and develop skills in the various disciplines separately and âmesh them all together down the road.â BJJ stands on its own as the most effective martial art when looking at match-up comparisons between styles and also self-defense.
Assistant instructor Corey Clark critiques some of the students' techniques as they practice their holds on the mat.
No Time Like the Present
The weekly enrollment usually hits 10 or more kids with both boys and girls attending. While the students build off of the lessons they learn each week, Baker wants to ensure any prospective students that they can enter any time and get acclimated to the class. âI always recommend people take private sessions if they can just to speed up the learning curve, but itâs not essential,â Baker said. âI teach a few different techniques each class and I give the kids time to drill and practice those techniques Iâve taught in previous classes. âA new kid coming in will learn some techniques and build on that more and more with each session.â The last part of each class is sparring so the students can put into practice what they learned against a live opponent. Jiu-jitsu as a discipline is about grappling and holds, but thereâs no striking. âThis is what really separates Brazilian Jiu-jitsu from other martial arts. They get to spar every session against a fully resisting opponent in a safe and effective way,â Baker said. âA new kid can probably expect to be in a lot of tough positions early in their training, but that is where they learn survivability. âThey get better with not getting caught in a submission,â he continued. âAs they progress, they will win more and more positional battles. As they develop their grappling skills, theyâll be more than ready to help the next new kid come through the same progression.â Students are getting to learn from one of the Ohio Valleyâs most knowledgeable and talented mixed martial arts practitioners. Baker has his black belt in Jiu-jitsu and Burmese Bondo Kickboxing. He has a professional record of 8-0 in MMA, 1-0 in kickboxing and 5-1 in boxing. From 2012-2017, he was ranked as West Virginiaâs top pound-for-pound MMA fighter on Tapology. Baker is the main instructor and occasionally is helped by Cory Clark and Chris Goldbaugh, both Bullpen members. Clark is a blue belt with years of training and Goldbaugh is a former professional MMA fighter.
Instructor Josh Baker demonstrates a hold while his students watch to learn the technique.
Anti-Bullying Component
Ask most parents their thoughts on the phrase âzero-tolerance policyâ when it comes to bullying and school districts and youâll likely see your fair share of eye rolls. The districts try, but thereâs only so much they can do. It still takes place. Yet, bullies rarely pick on those who can defend themselves, which is where BJJ training has an added component. Weâve had a few different kids come to the classes that have dealt with being bullied,â Baker said. âThis really gets me fired up and makes me extremely motivated to help these kids out. âItâs not going to happen overnight, but I feel I can help get these kids confident in their ability to defend themselves far faster than most would expect. They are learning techniques that our gym has successfully used against other professional fighters,â he added. âIf they stick with it, theyâll become over-qualified for dealing with the typical untrained bully.â Another way the students can gain confidence in their skills for when such a need arises is through tournament-style competition. As previously stated, competing in these tournaments is not a requirement, but it is an option for students who want to test their abilities. âThe tournaments are a lot of fun and there is great value in doing them,â Baker said. âThey help you prioritize what problem areas in your skill set you need to focus on improving first since you get paired up by age, bodyweight and experience level. âCompeting is always up to the student and their parents, though.â
Two Brazilian Jiu-jitsu students work on holds they learned in a controlled environment before fully sparring and practicing in real time against resistance.
Try it Out and Get Involved
