imladris lads :D it started off as a few doodles of gildor bc of a great prompt i received from an anon a few weeks ago, and then spiralled into something else entirely bc i havent really taken the time to explore much of anything imladris-related? i really like the lindir-is-maglor concept so heres my take on how it couldve happened haha
as always, credit to Cartoon Network for the sparkly pink BG

I'd love to hear about Elros and Elrond Timeswap and Old Fires Burn Out! — @emyn-arnens
[from this WIP ask game!]
Thank you for the ask @emyn-arnens , the one for Old Fires Burn out I already answered here!
Elrond and Elros Timeswap my beloved aka the fic where I give Elrond a bit of an existential crisis and let Elros have some quality family time with his sister-in-law, nephews and niece.
The basic idea of this fic actually came to me because I was one evening very sad about the fact that Elros never got to meet Elrond’s kids and Elrond’s kids never got to meet their uncle and I wanted to fix that.
Elros is from late-ish into his reign, I imagine he already has some visible signs of aging like some gray hair he is very conscious about; while Elrond is from around the time where Arwen is still in the elvish equivalent of pre-teenagehood and a bit of a menace to deal with. Though he’s definitely from before Celebrian gets captured! And yeah for some unknown reason the two of them swap places for a bit.
Elrond’s existential crisis comes from the fact that a) he, for some reason, is now in the past, b) his brother is fucking missing, c) his dead nephews, niece and sister-in-law are alive again(!) and d) he isn't so sure how he’ll deal with the younger version of himself who is scheduled to arrive in like three days… and also e) Manwendil had the brilliant idea that Elrond should be playing Elros’s part as king for the foreseeable future because someone has to and it's definitely not going to be Vardamir.
Elros meanwhile falls from a tree during his daily midday nap in the gardens and suddenly finds himself in the middle of a valley that he doesn’t know and starts wandering around looking for people. He runs into his old friend Gildor, who looks at him like he’s a ghost, meets Glorfindel (isn’t he supposed to be dead??) and finally learns that his brother apparently built an elvish city and got married(!) without telling him about it. It takes him a moment to figure out he might not actually be in time anymore, because everyone else is a little bit too preoccupied with the fact that their lord's dead twin brother just showed up (while their lord is missing!!) and isn’t telling him anything. Nobody expects Elros to play Elrond’s part because all of Rivendell already knows what happens and so he’s free to spend time with Celebrian and the kiddos. Though there is this meeting with the White Council coming up… maybe the Wizards will know what to do? (Spoiler: Saruman and Gandalf know nothin’)
I actually have one chapter and a half already written! Maybe there will be more maybe I'll continue spinning this around in my brain like a döner kebab for eternity.

Some thoughts on lotr on prime
Sooo im really excited for the lotr on prime show (you know I'm something of a clown myself). And what I'm wondering about is what exact time will be covered.
The second age is 3441 years, that's quite a long time. Sauron meets Gil-Galad in 1200, the rings are forged in the 1500s and Numenor falls in the early 3000s. (rough dates)
All of those events are worth covering and focusing on. And they deserve the attention and the detailed plotting.
Currently 5 seasons are planed but the Tolkien estate would grant more if amazon does a good job and since they apparently already like what they're seeing and allowed them to cover some stuff from the first age (probably flashbacks or exposition, see the trees in the first promo image) the chances are good.
One of the people involved said that they want to use the first season for world building and the one ring revealed that sauron won't be in the first season.
So my guess is:
The first season will mostly be about the founding of the Grey Havens and Numenor and will introduce important characters. Galadriel and Elrond are confirmed, we will probably also meet Elros and Gil-Galad. The migration to Khazad-dûm will probably also be covered as it introduces a location that will be important to later seasons.
After that nothing big happens for a few centuries. Its been a while since I've read the books and there are parts I'm not that familiar with anymore but it's mostly people getting born and people dying and people meeting each other. Maybe they add some plot for political drama or add some travel/adventure stories but since so much plot is still to cover I'm not sure. I can imagine time jumps happening between seasons. It's not uncommon and allows fresh starts with new characters getting introduced which is normal in shows.
What is possible is that they won't work with years and dates at all. As I mentioned Sauron and Gil-Galad meet in 1200 and it would work well as a start for season 2. Mentioning dark times to come, a new evil etc maybe some well known visuals at the end of season 1, maybe even a post credit scene and even casual viewers will be hooked as I well known villain is about to appear.
As soon as Sauron shows up things start happening. Galadriel goes to Lothlorien, the rings of power are forged, barad dur is completed, Glorfindel comes back, sauron proclaims himself, rivendell is founded, celebrimbor dies, sauron attacks but gets defeated and retreats to mordor. This would fill 1 - 2 seasons, maybe even 3, we're looking at 300 years.
About 500 years later the rebellion of Numenor against the valar starts and until the fall of Numenor a bit more that 1000 years pass. I can imagine those events getting pressed into one season, maybe two. I haven't counted but there are probably about 10 - 20 kings and queens and covering all of them is just too much. We have to remember how expensive this show is, they not only want to Tolkien nerds but also the casual viewers and infodumping never goes well.
So the last season will probably begin after the fall of Numenor and with Gondor and Arnor being founded. A big part will be the introduction of important characters like Oropher and Elendil since they'll die and both leave a kingdom and a heir behind. Maybe we'll meet a young thranduil? The last thing will probably be the battle, character deaths and I won't be surprised if it ends with a shot of something that could lead up to lotr. Maybe isildur riding along the route where he gets attacked. Maybe we'll even catch a glimpse of the third age and the arrival of the Istari (didn't sir Ian McKellen state he'd be ready to reprise his role?).
So, those are my thoughts. As you see this list barely contains the most important elements and I'm sure there will be many more events, characters and side plots to fill the gaps. Mirkwood, maybe even the ents. There where rumors about Hobbits appearing. While not being mentioned before the third age they must have been there so it would be a nice addition.
There is quite a lot to cover in the second age and whether they decide to tackle it all or concentrate on one event a lot of time will pass. Over the course of decades and centuries and millennia fashion, architecture and traditions change and even if this probably happens slower when it comes to elves I'm very excited to see those changes applied to Numenor and other human cultures. A nice challenge for the costume department.
The goal of this post is to hopefully bring some healthy discussion, maybe even positivity to the table. During the last months I mainly saw negative takes on the show. The reason was often the nudity discourse which could've been avoided by actually reading the articles about the intimacy coordinator. We barely know anything about the show and we've only seen one picture. Of course I'm critical, we all have good reasons to be, but currently I see no reason to spread negativity about something that I barely know anything about.
Maybe there are some people who would like to add some thoughts to this post and who are just as excited as I am. I'd love to hear from you.

Sleepover request
burning-quesadilla said: Can you do Fluff #3 for Glorestor? Also the sleepover idea sounds really fun, I love it & can't wait♥️ ((She/he/they) don’t compare to you. No one does.)
A/N: SOOOOOOO... Hi haha! I am back! I now have more free time to just get back into writing-- I forgot how fun it was to do this. @burning-quesadilla I am sososo sorry it took so long to do this 😭 but I hope you can forgive me and I hope you like it as well. This is technically my first only canon characters fic so... I really do hope I do them justice. But thank you so much for sending this request in! I had such a blast writing it!
Warnings: Death (but as a flashback/dream); sparring; falling; big booboo bruise on the forehead; fluff.
The evening darkness seeped into the glowing halls of Imladris. Although the hour grew late and everyone had retired to their respected quarters, Erestor’s mind continued to storm in the clear summer night. Tossing and turning in his bed, the poor elf could not relax.
“How can I rest knowing that a dark evil has arrived at our door?” He asked already knowing the answer.
His restlessness traveled from his mind to his palms, he needed to busy his idle hands, hoping that in doing so, his mind would calm. Silently, he stood and headed towards the training grounds. Now, normally, Erestor was not one to blow off steam through physical exercise, being a strong advocate of "brain over brawn", but even he knew how therapeutic it was to hit something with a sword- be it wooden or real.
Arriving on the premises, his slender fingers gripped a training sword. It had been a while since he'd gripped anything bigger than a pen, but it was not a strange sensation-- although a scholar, he made sure his body and movements were as sharp as his mind. Facing the wooden post, Erestor practiced his movements, swift and precise.
Lunge. His foot extended forward, bringing him towards his target.
"What is the next move?"
Sidestep. Quickly turning on his heel, he spun and landed a side strike-- chipping the wood.
"How can we defeat this growing malice in the east?"
Deflect. Imagining an enemy, Erestor held his sword up in hopes of stopping an imaginary attack- strangely enough reeling in the process.
"The halflings cannot take this evil alone."
Advance. Focusing once again, the lithe elf ran towards the post, preparing to land the final blow.
"What help can I provide?"
As he was about to land the finishing blow, his ankle caught on a mound of dirt he did not realize he’d formed with his movements. Instead of finishing through, his body toppled over and his face ate dirt-- literally. After a few moments-- thanking Eru that no one was alive to see that--Erestor turned over and laid on his back, in pain and frustration… and maybe a twinge of embarrassment. His chest heaved with difficulty from his exercise, but also with exasperation.
“What help can I provide?”
Still deep in thought, he failed to register the sound of another person moving through the ground to lay next to him. When the other elf laid down next to him, staring at the sky, Erestor jumped.
“Glorfindel?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A horrendous screech echoed through the stone cliffs, wracking the very bones of the elf warrior as he stood, steadfast, against his foe. The balrog of Melkor was no small enemy-- literally. Standing heads above Glorfindel, the creature surged forward with heavy but strong steps, driven with the determination to obliterate him. Under normal circumstances, anyone- with a sound mind- would turn tail and run for their lives. Not Glorfindel, not the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower. The mighty elf swung his sword with precision, slicing the thick horn of the balrog. A pained roar blasted the elf back to the edge of the cliff. Looking back to his followers, Glorfindel could see his kin terrified of the events.
“GO! I WILL HOLD IT OFF! KEEP OUR KIN SAFE!” He yelled, his command piercing the howling of the beast and the wind. Turning back to his enemy, he saw the rabid look in its eyes, angered by its wounds. Invigorated by rage, the balrog lunged at him once again, hands outstretched, teeth in a snarl. It was as if evil embodied had come down to smite the golden elf. However, Glorfindel was not one to be tested so easily; quick as a flash, the ellon sheathed his sword deep in the chest of his enemy. It happened so fast that even the balrog itself had no idea what had occurred, rather its body reacted on its own. Black spots danced in its vision as it began to fall over the cliff, into the jagged peaks below. Glorfindel was the victor. A sigh of relief escapes his lips as he looks to the sky sending a silent prayer to his maker.
“Thank Eru.” He closes his eyes and revels in a moment of respite as he feels the wind whip around him and through his golden hair, making it dance wildly in the air.
“Finally, I need to help-” Suddenly the world goes black as a sharp and heavy tug pulls his head abruptly in an inhuman angle towards the abyss after his enemy.
SNAP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glorfindel jolts awake in a pool of sweat. His chest is heaving as he gulps down air. His throat is stinging as he touches it, making him assume that he was screaming. Luckily, his rooms are in their own separate side of Rivendell away from the other citizens.
A dream… No. A memory. Trying his best to steady his breathing, Glorfindel runs through the events of the past few days to anchor him to his present, reminding him that he is not in the First Age, that Balrogs are no longer in this era.
Strange… I’ve not had that dream in such a long time. The air turns cold as he feels like he is being watched. Suddenly he remembers his escapade of saving Frodo from the Nazgul.
The Ring. A restlessness--no, an uneasiness-- falls on his entire being.
“I need to do something,” Glorfindel says out loud. Jumping up, he dresses in training clothes and heads to the training grounds.
A good spar will do me some good.
As he nears the grounds, he hears grunts, pants, and growls. Confused as to who would be here, his first assumption would be Legolas or Estel.
Good, I’d prefer a real sparring partner to a wooden doll.
As he rounds the corner, his eyes widen at the sight of Erestor, the librarian, destroying the wooden doll with such precision and speed that even he was almost impressed. Almost. He noted the fluid movement and purposeful strikes, but he pointed out the lack of determination-- he was distracted.
If he does not pay attention, he’ll- As though reading his thoughts, his dear companion decided that the ground would be his next victim as he fell, face first, into the dirt. The sight of the fallen elleth was enough to lift his spirits up, but he knew he needed to make sure that he was alright. However, Glorfindel is not a cruel man, so instead of letting loose a string of guffaws, he stealthily, walked to Erestor’s panting form on the dirt. As he laid down next to him, a sigh of relief escaped him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hello, Erestor. Fine night to lay under the stars.” The golden eldar said calmly. His very presence made his companion even more flustered from fear of having been seen in his tumble.
“What are you doing here?” Glorfindel chuckled as he folded his arms behind his head and sighed contentedly.
“I was taking a stroll, and heard a noise coming from the training grounds. At first I assumed it to be the prince of Mirkwood, but imagine my surprise when I see the counselor of Rivendell flailing a stick around like an elfling trying to wave off an imaginary orc in the night.” His baritone chuckle reverberated through the cool breeze, sending a shiver down the brunette elf’s spine-- not sure if it was because of the chill or his voice. Blushing furiously, he asked,
“Why are you lying on the ground?”
“You face planted. So I am lying next to you just in case someone were to pass by, they’d think we were just resting from a night of sparring.” His answer caused Erestor to choke on his breath.
He saw! An embarrassed moan is pulled from his mouth while Glorfindel smirks.
“Don’t worry, I understand. What weighs your heart that it distracted your training? He asked without looking at him. Erestor is silent for a bit
“I am weighed down by the worries that the halflings bring, Glorfindel. I need to propose a plan of attack and defense. I need-” Erestor’s rant is cut off with his companion’s hand on his mouth.
“You need to rest. Your mind has done more work than your body-- and it is showing with that huge bruise on your forehead.” Self consciously, Erestor covers his bruise.
Cute.
“And there is no use being worried and burdened at the same time, then your punishment is prolonged and double-- believe me. I know.” The tone in his voice held a twinge of sadness that Erestor did not miss.
“Why are you here Glorfindel?” He whispers. When did they move closer?
Silence again. Closing his eyes, the golden elf sighs and confesses his dream.
“Oh Glorfindel… We need to go to the healers, they can maybe give you something for sleep.”
“No, I just… just stay here with me. Your company is remedy enough.” Glorfindel says softly, almost vulnerably. His request pulls at Erestor’s heart and mind.
“I am no healer, Glorfindel. I cannot heal you.” Erestor says, turning to him and propping his head on his arm to better look at him.
“I don’t believe so, our healers are great- do not misunderstand. But to me, they don’t compare to you. No one does.”
Still not looking at him, Glorfindel closes his eyes and just basks in Erestor’s presence with a small smile. A comfortable silence passes, so long, in fact, that the morning birds are beginning to wake. Noting the peace that falls upon Glorfindel’s face, it dawns on him that he should have given him some time to spar.
“I should leave you alone.” Erestor says reluctantly, pulling away. Before he could get far enough, Glorfindel’s hand gently pulled him back.
“I think you could use some alone time as well. So why not let us be alone together, melethen.”
Erestor smiles and nods. Laying back down, the two elven lords lay on the ground, under the dawning sky as the city around them slumbers. Erestor’s mind calmed and his heart felt lighter. A chuckle escaped his lips.
“You know… We should be alone together more often.”
Tumblr media
... *theelfmaiden.exe stopped working*... uhhhhh.
I really should be careful what I wish for...
... nevermind, I'm ready, let's go, there's a quest upon me and I have to save the anon from dying!
@a-dragon-under-the-stars asks:
11. What is your least favorite pairing? - this one got me thinking a bit. In tLotR, there's no particular pairing I dislike. I'm not really a fan of Kíliel (Tauriel x Kíli) in tH, to be honest. Mainly because I don't like Tauriel much and the fact that they barely knew each other - hey, what they had, and I don't mean Kíli dying right now (spoiler alert) or whatever, may happen irl, but it just seems unrealistic... or I'm just old-fashioned.
14. Do you think that Tolkien would have liked Peter Jackson's movies? - he'd have had separate opinions on each trilogy. I always joke that every time we play the Hobbit, it makes him turn in the grave and then rise from it, when you reach the Battle of the Five Armies. He'd have disagreed with a few things, like "From a children's fairytale to an "epic" for teenagers and adults? Get thee gone, Jackson!" In case of tLotR, I imagine he'd have questioned the lack of Barrow-downs and Tom Bombadil and other iconic or otherwise important scenes. Also, as every author, he'd have been looking out for the message being delivered the right way or if it's even being delivered, if you know what I mean, but in both cases, I believe, he'd have been intrigued by the films' concepts for characters, costumes, effects; music, too, I hope he'd have liked the soundtrack. He'd have liked tLotR more, I think, not the Hobbit CGI soup (not only for this reason he'd have been pleased with tLotR more), also, he'd have been glad that neither of those films had been shot with the Beatles as main cast.
16. Rivendell or Lothlórien? - living in Rivendell, because the place's much cosier than Lothlórien, let's be honest. I keep the other realm as a favorite tourist destination, though.
19. What scene always makes you laugh? - oh my, there are so many! Gandalf hitting his head at Bag End, the Proudfoot grumpily watching Gandalf as he arrives in Hobbiton and then being caught laughing at his fireworks being launched, Gimli being Gimli throughout the entire trilogy (I know he doesn't deserve to be just a comic relief, but I can’t help myself laughing at his remarks), “the dwarf breathes so loud that we could have shot him in the dark” Haldir, and many more.
27. Have you ever had a LOTR marathon? - yes, many times. You see, where I live, there's a local cinema that annually (not last year, though, ugh) organizes film marathons, including a tLotR one, or two (because there's never enough of tLotR). I missed one, I think, out of all. It’s always so much fun having people with same passion gather and laugh and cry and quote the most known lines... it feels and is amazing. And yes, I forced people to go with me.
33. Which scene scares you the most? - the entire Sméagol-Gollum transformation. When I was a kid, I used to skip that part everytime I watched tRotK. Also, the infamous Bilbo jumpscare had my pants turn brown a few times.
@actuallyfingolfin and anon ask:
39. Who is your favorite horse? - Asfaloth, Glorfindel's horse, come on. A pity that this ask is a tLotR-only, otherwise my choice would've been different, if it wasn't (Rochallor or Nahar from the Silmarillion, but I didn't say anything, okay?).
15. If you could have any one of the character's wardrobes, whose would you choose? - I don't know. Everybody's so stylish! Galadriel? Arwen? Elrond's robes are stunning. I wonder what Erestor or Glorfindel would wear.
21. Which 3 characters would you choose to go on an epic adventure with? - the Three Hunters? It may sound basic, but you certainly won't die with those guys as companions in the wilderness. Or exchange one with Glorfindel or Éowyn or Galadriel, if they wanted to join, though.
@a-funeral-pyre asks:
10. Who is your OTP? - let's break the rules here again, kind of - Russingon! Or Gigolas. Bagginshield? I stan a queer pairing.
35. Which character would you want to be your parent? - I love my mum, but if I had to choose, then Arwen. I think she would (well, is or was, nevermind) be a good mum-material. As dad, anybody apart from movie Denethor - yes, I'm that desperate.
the second (or the same?) anon asks:
31. Fuck, marry and kill (pick 3 characters) - Fuck Galadriel, marry Éowyn and kill Legolas. Easy. Imagine killing Galadriel. You can't? Yeah, me neither, I'd be dead before I knew I'm being killed.
Guys, this had me wheezing, like, for real. I've never got so many folks asking me fun questions, thank you all for doing so (I tagged you, so you could see). If you want, you can answer your questions yourselves, so I, and others, could read your opinions about those particular matters, or answer my series of numbers - 3, 6, 23, 36 and 38! Hantalë again!
Link to the questions is here: https://peregrint.tumblr.com/post/12456356080/lotr-themed-questions
I’m curious if you haven’t answered already, but are there changes from the Lord of the Rings books to the films that you actually agree with? Anything that wouldn’t have translated well to the big screen?
If so why?
Wow, I have really made my reputation of being the LotR movies hater, if you ask whether there’s anything I actually do like. I mean, you’re not wrong, but it’s still funny. x)
julien, stop reading NOW. DO NOT READ FURTHER. SPOILERS AHEAD. [A mutual is reading LotR for the first time, I don’t want to spoil them].
First of all, I have to preface this by saying I haven’t seen the movies. So anything I say here has that caveat.
As much as I love the passage, I get why they cut Tom Bombadil. He’s inconsequential to the plot, he opens so many questions, he never comes back again. I won’t go as far as to say that the story is better without him (because I love him as a character), but it certainly doesn’t lose from the cut, and it does make the pacing better.
I like that they gave Glorfindel’s mission to Arwen. More women doing stuff is always a plus in my book (especially in the LotR novels which have a distressingly short number of women), and it works well as an introduction to Arwen. I’d even go further: if you’re going to make Arwen into a more active character, go all the way. Don’t make her wither away in Rivendell. When the Dunédain arrive to Rohan with Elladan and Elrohir, have Arwen arrive with them instead of sending an embroidery.
And lastly, less of a “change for the better” and more of an apology to the movie: one of my first and more vehement complaints when the film first came out was that elves ‘don’t look like that’. And while I still don’t like their aesthetic, I have since then re-read the novel, and there are no physical descriptions of the elves. It’s all “they looked young, but also old”, and “they were beautiful in an ethereal way”. So it’s not technically a bad adaptation. Just a stylistic choice that doesn’t agree with the way I had personally imagined them. So sorry movie for ranting about it for years on end. My bad.
There are maybe more, but it’s late and I’m tired. I hope I’ve convinced you that I don’t hate on the film just for the sake of hating it! ;)
What are the changes you think make the movie better?
I’m going to think of a title for this at some point...:P
So in this entry in 12 Days of Fanfic, we get to see Celbrian lead the forces of Rivendell during the second siege of Imladris. I kinda pushed up Glorfindel’s prophesy about the Witch King, but who’s to say he didn’t give it twice?
@independence1776 and everyone else, enjoy!
...
I stare at the map that’s been laid out on the table before me, moving the different pieces this way and that in an effort to find someway that our forces can outflank those of Angmar and break the siege. By some mercy, the passes through the Misty Mountains are impassable because of late snow. It took three months and the loss of hundreds of his soldiers before the Witch King gave up his attack on that front. Even so, our situation is dire. With the weakening of Arnor, we cannot expect aid from the northern kingdom. No matter how I move the pieces, there is no way to avoid a pitched battle. I look up as Lord Glorfindel enters the war-tent, garbed and armored as I am for war.
“What is it?”
“Scouts have brought word that the Angmarim are massing at the ford,” Glorfindel explains, “another assault will come either this day or the next.” He takes the seat next to mine. “Any word from Elrond my lady?”
I wish it were otherwise, but truth forces me to shake my head. The last word I received from my husband was of his departure from Lothlorien with the army my parents had supplied. “With the passes closed, he will have to cross further south. It will take longer, but if we can hold out until he arrives, we can crush Angmar.”
Glorfindel starts to speak, but something on the map catches his eye. “This pass here,” he begins, pointing at a small trail, “How many could march abreast here?”
“It’s little more than a game trail, and the ground there is rocky and steep.” I reply, “mayhap four, five at most.” As I say this, my finger traces the path down to the Bruinen. “How far north are the Angmarim encamped?”
“The furthest northern encampment is more than five miles from the foothills.”
I smile. “Still within the valley.”
“My lady?”
“The storm brought much snow to the mountains, and the source of the Bruinen was already full” I explain, “Should that snow melt, I imagine the valley below the foothills would flood.”
Glorfindel nods with approval. “Manwë willing, my lady, this could purchase for us the time we need.”
Manwë is more than willing as it happens. The snows melt so quickly that our forces barely mange to get into position in time. I lead the right flank of our army, Glorfindel the left as we push the retreating Angmarim into the swollen ford. We had hoped simply to push them back for a time, but the Lord of the Valar gifts us with another blessing. Those who manage to survive the crossing find themselves caught between the river and the arrival of Elrond and the elves from Lothlorien. He runs up to me on the battlefield, kissing me without a care for how many eyes are upon us.
“The children?” He asks first. There had been an argument between Elrond and the twins before he left for Lothlorien; they had wanted to accompany him and he had forbidden it on account of the danger.
“Safe and waiting for us.” I say with a grin, “Though Elladan and Elrohir are still feeling rather dour. Arwen actually told them they were behaving like spoiled children.” He laughs a little, shaking his head at the audacity of our youngest before turning to our warriors.
“We have victory!” he shouts and the cheer that goes up rolls off the walls of the valley with a thunderous echo.
It is a victory, but not a complete one. Once the dead are tallied, it is discovered that the Witch King has escaped. Weakened, he flees back into Angmar, to his fortress of Carn Dûm to lick his wounds a gather his strength anew.
“We should pursue and destroy him while he is still weak!” Elrohir argues, forgetting that giving his opinion is not one of the duties of the council’s cupbearer.
I give him a look that Elrond swears I have inherited from my mother. Araphor, the new king of Arnor, actually shrinks back. “And how many of our people would die in the attempt? The kingdom of Arnor is too weak to aid us, and Gondor cannot fight a war are two far flung fronts.”
Elrohir will not give up. “But how many more will we lose if we allow him to regain his strength? How can we allow such evil to exist?”
Elrond holds up a hand and our son falls silent. “Lord Glorfindel, what is your council?”
Glorfindel stares into the distance, at something only he can see. “The Witch King will be defeated, but his doom is not yet near, and not by the hand of any here will he fall.”
I really like the art you did of them! I have never considered Glorfindel/Maglor before, could you please tell me your thoughts on them as a ship?
I’m very happy that people ask me more about them bc I thought that it’s mb very vierd and didn’t show my arts with them before.First of all they are my Cat and Flower OTP :DDOk, I‘ve always liked the idea of Maglorwandering and striding around Middleearth for Eru knows how many years andfinally arriving to Elrond’s lands where nobody lets him wander further. It seems to me that happened not so far from the Hobbit events. Just imagine:Maglor casually walks through the woods and gets caught by the border guard  troops, he tries to run away that doesn’twork out, than he knocked down everybody around, but luckily or unluckily Glorfindelwas there. They had a great deal of a mighty fight, yet Glorfindel mighty won, partiallythanks to good sleep and diet, he is also high and ancient as fuck (andaccording to some theories he is equal to maia in power). Glorfindel is quitesmart so he notices that the vagrant he had caught looks bad and em.. dusty, his  armor, though has some noble and oldpatterns, the sword is also good, so It’s better to take him to Elrond.
·        Elrond sure recognizes him andexperiences lot of contradictory and mixed feelings, yet Maglor is his mummy inlaw and  ofc it’s an intimate reunion allDisney films should have.  Glorfindel, afterrealizing these two have known each other long before, all the feels and stufflike that… just gets extremely happy for them with a light heart. Maglor nowgets that Glorfindel was only doing his job, nothing personal, yet he hissesand glances grumpily for a week or two, bc, you know, «Who dared  to defeat Son of Feanor , how dared he put adagger to his throat blablabla». Firstly, Maglor avoids every type of contactor conversation with other elves, gloomily walks around the huge libraries,around the gardens and  has long-longmeaningful talks with Elrond. Yet Elrond is still a king  and the times are getting darker, so Maglorhas long time for himself too. Here,  inRivendell halls they have evening songs and they tell tales of old times whenthe night comes in, all gathering near huge fireplace.  Maglor, being  a goth child of his time, ofc doesn’t go therefirst couple of times. Then he eventually comes, finds a dark corner, sits andlistens. AAAAAAAAAAnd gets very surprised by not hearing any hatred or accusationstowards the Feanorians.  Maglor long time haven’t sang   butone time he sits in a garden under a beautiful blooming tree and sings quietly.  Glorfindel having returned from surveying the borders, hears   thesong by lucky chance and he likes it sooooo much. Maglor notices him yet continuoussinging.  From this moment a specialbound forms between them.Some time later  they’ll spend more timetogether bc Maglor feels much better,  hegot used to being here, Glorfindel and him are like dinosaurs among the youngones in this realm and so on. Together they babysitting Elrond’s children, Maglor is an exceptional warriorwhich is convenient in battles and patrols, plus Glorfindel has a soft spot forhot musicians, and …well… Maglor sings way better than  Ecthelion. They spend hours talking, Glorfindel talks Gondolin, his previous live,Ecthelion, and many personal things. In this hc Maglor had been so closely attached to his family ( esp Maitimo)-hesimply didn’t have the time and energy for someone else. I mean, he did marryand had a wife (I guess he did, or not, idk, but I’d prefer to think he wasn’tmarried, definitely not in this hc), yet she was once seen and gone in the verybeginning of their Middlearth journey. Sad as it is, but only losing everyonehe cared about, Kano slowly starts to take care and listen to himself, tryingto focus on his own happiness and priorities. That’s why Glorfindel  is his first soulmate (who’s not a closerelative and not your child). One warm telling-tales Rivendell evening Kano, inspired by all he had heardabout Gondolin, sings a long, sad and magnificent song about the Elven City inthe valley of Tumladen and his voice echoes like a loud bell. Glorfindel staresat him across the hall, it’s hard to guess his emotions, the music and voicesgo silent. Overwhelmed by magic and grief of the song, all the feelings andmemories it evoked, Glorfindel comes up to Maglor and kisses him. Everyone in the hall is…genuinely shocked and impressed. Elrond is the first tocollect himself, so he quickly draws the attention from these two. Before this kiss they sure had tons of cute moments, but they didn’t attach anysignificance to it. So this evening had a huge influence on Maglor, such a strong influence heactually fell in love so hard he couldn’t breathe. After couple of days whenthey were walking around the gardens he mb could have said smth like “ It wasmy first kiss you know..” and Glorfindel would freeze plain shocked bc Kano isold as a moon, smoking hot and is simply a cinnamon bun straight outta Aman sohow can that possibly be his first kiss??? While Glorfindel looks at Kano andthinking stuff over, Maglor returns the kiss.. That’s basically it. They just live the fullest and love and feel loved fromthis time on.
Chapter XXVI: (EXT) The Fall of Dol Guldur (Pt. III)
It would be a few days later that word would come from Celeborn in the south. When I was not deep in thought, I spent time with Êlúriel and the children. They were growing up so quickly right before my eyes. On this day, I sat on a bench as I watched them together in the garden, I could not help but see how much Tárimë had begun to look like Êlúriel. So much had changed in the world I had not noticed. Even the trees of the forest seem to sense the change of the ages.
“Ada,” Tárimë said walking toward me. “See. It is a butterfly. It is so pretty, is it not?”
“It is,” I said watching as it fluttered its wings while sitting quietly on Tárimë’s hand. Suddenly it took flight high above us until it was gone.
“You are going to leave again soon,” she said. “I do not want you to go, but I know you must. When your return, will the war be over?”
“I hope it will be, Tárimë,” I said. “It has lasted far too long.”
She sat beside me and leaned her head upon my shoulder.
“Why are there such things as war,” she asked. “I do not understand them.”
“Neither do I,” I answered. It was true—I did not understand them. I did know why there was a need for them. They seemed to steal lives and souls over something as meaningless as power. It seemed to be the only thing any one being could keep for themselves as things intangible as time could not be tamed.
“War is like winter,” she said. “The days are shorter and the nights longer. Like a season that never ends.”
I felt a chill run through me when I heard her words. Êlúriel had said them to me before I left for Dagorlad. I looked at Tárimë—her face stoic and lost in thought.
“You are wise for your age,” I said softly. “Very much so.”
“Nana said that to me long ago,” she answered. “I take after Queen Êlúriel.”
“Your mother was right,” I began. “You are very much like her if not rather short.”
She looked at me and smiled.
“I have not yet come of age,” she said giggling. “When I do, will I be as graceful as a queen?”
“You already are,” I said kissing atop her head.
We sat together quietly—watching Êlúriel with Eärluin and Auríel as Nenduîl and Aranduil played nearby.
“Thranduil,” I heard a voice say behind me. I looked up to see Elmîr. I rose with Tárimë.
“Yes,” I asked. “What is it?”
“One comes from Lothlórien to see you,” he said.
“Thank you,” I said. I turned to Tárimë. “I will see you before I leave. Go to Nana now.”
She nodded and walked away slowly. She glanced back once with a look that nearly broke my heart. I nodded to Elmîr and we made our way into the palace and to the throne room where two elven men stood surrounded by my council and my court.
“I thought you said one, Elmîr,” I said.
“They accompanied the one that came from Lothlórien,” he whispered.
I stood before the two men—both with long golden hair and grey eyes. They bowed to me.
“Your Majesty,” one said. “I am Isílion and my brother Tárion. We come to you from Lothlórien with a bearer of a message.”
“Where is this messenger,” I asked.
Out of the shadow stepped figure hooded in a white cloak. Once removed, the room fell silent. I approached her.
“Lady Galadriel,” I said. “This is quite an honor and rather unexpected. I thought you to be in Caras Galadhon under the protection of guards.”
“I was there,” she began. “And Caras Galadhon is well protected. I come of my own will to you. Our borders are safe as our warriors were able to push the glamhoth back from whence they came. Dol Guldur. It is now time for you to join Celeborn to bring down what is left of Sauron’s forces that remain.”
“I thought you would be making your way westward by now,” I said. “There is no need for many of our kin to stay longer than we need to. Most of all you, daughter of Finarfin. I am to think you remain for Celeborn?”
“You may think many things, Thranduil, as you will. But I know your heart and it is with your people as ours.”
I motioned for Fëaluin to come to me.
“Prepare to leave at dawn,” I whispered.
He nodded and left with Sildúr and Aradin. I returned my gaze to Galadriel. Her beauty had not shown and signs of fading as her age would dictate. She smiled serenely at me.
“Will you remain within my halls until our return,” I asked.
“If it pleases you, Thranduil,” she said. “I will see you and Celeborn again and if it be here then so will it be.”
“Very well,” I said. “I will have my court prepare quarters for you and your companions.”
“I know I will be well served and protected,” Galadriel said.
Isílriel, Ardúin and her sisters Linurial and Súlthulë bowed reverently and escorted Galadriel and her companions away. I gave Eldôr a look he found amusing.
“Thranduil,” he began. “I am quite sure the children will enjoy her company.”
“What are you not telling me, Uncle,” I asked.
“What would I keep from you,” he asked.
“I am not fool enough to think that the Lady of Light has left her kingdom without someone to see to its routine while she is away. There are only two directions an elf will go and often that is not east to Mirkwood without cause.”
“Elrond remains in Rivendell,” he said. “I do not know whether or not many remain there or in Lothlórien, but he is well aware of the whereabouts of his entire family.”
“Good,” I said. “Then I will not awaken to any more of them before I leave for battle or is that wishful thinking?”
“No more,” he said smiling. “But they are your kin, you realize.”
“I do not need reminding, Eldôr,” I said. “I need this war to end before my kingdom becomes a bastion for any more of my estranged kin.”
I made my way to my study and watched the waters falling in the fading light of day. Tomorrow I would ride to my last battle in this world. I could not help but wonder if I would see Legolas again.
**** **** **** ****
Before the light of day, I was dressed and prepared to ride to Dol Guldur. I did not want to wake Nenduîl and Tárimë as I knew they would worry. I walked through the front gates to where my warriors waited for me with Fëaluin, Eldôr, Elranduil and Nimlos.
“Thranduil, son of Oropher,” I heard a voice whisper to me. I turned around to see Galadriel standing behind me with Êlúriel and our children. “We have little to fear for you are your father’s son and he would be proud of you.”
“Thank you, Galadriel,” I said. I kissed her hand. “Look southward to our victorious return.”
She smiled and nodded. I approached Êlúriel.
“I leave you again,” I said. “One last time.”
“For one last time I will say 'return to me',” she said.
“I will,” I answered. “You have my word.”
I kissed her quickly and I went on my way. As a stable hand brought my horse, I noticed Isílion and Tárion speaking with Elmîr and Sildúr. Upon my approach, they bowed.
“You are to take me to Celeborn,” I asked them.
“Of course,” Tárion said. “When His Majesty is ready.”
I looked at my warriors and mounted my horse. The others followed suit. I gave the command and the banners were raised.
“Noro,” I said. “To Dol Guldur.”
**** **** **** ****
We rode in silence—our minds deep in thought. Would this truly be the last battle I would ever see? Would I return home and would I ever see Legolas again? The unknown is often the only thing we know—it is the certainty that anything can and will happen. The mystery lies within us as to the outcome. I always thought I knew what I would do any given moment and realizing too late that preparation was merely expectation of something unexpected.
As we made our way closer to Dol Guldur, we me Tarthôn and Aruilos at their position at Emyn Duir as their men were packing the camp to move further South.
“Father,” he said. “It is good to see you again.”
“What news have you heard from Celeborn,” I asked.
“His warriors were able to force what was left of the glamhoth into their garrison,” Aruilos said. “Not long after many were lost not far from Angrenost. Lord Celeborn sent word to us that they have surrounded them preparing to lay siege upon them.”
“Upon my arrival, no less,” I said. “Let us go together so we might set up camp before nightfall.”
They nodded and hurried to their horses.
“Where is Ardôr,” Elranduil asked looking for his son. “I thought he would be here with Êlenuil and Elendôr.”
“They went on ahead, Ada,” Orísil said as he rode up to us. “Not long after Celeborn sent word to you.”
“He knew of the messenger,” he asked.
“You mean Lady Galadriel,” Orísil said smiling. “Yes, of course.”
“He told you this himself,” Nimlos asked.
“No,” he answered. “From one called Glorfindel.”
Elranduil let out a deep sigh as Nimlos laughed with Eldôr.
“Come,” I said sternly. “Let us not tarry any longer.”
I thought back long ago to when I first met Glorfindel. Beyond what I remembered of him, I was lost in the memory of my father and Melros I lost at Dagorlad. Before long my thoughts were turned to seeing the Elves of Lothlórien making camp. When we had stopped, I motioned to Fëaluin. He took charge of preparing my tent. As I dismounted, I stood beside Elranduil, Nimlos, Eldôr, Tarthôn Orísil and Aruilos as Isílion and Tárion waited with us as Haldir and his brothers Rúmil and Orophin approached us.
“Your Majesty,” Haldir said bowing. “Good to see you again. Lord Celeborn awaits you in his tent. Shall we, Your Majesty?”
I nodded and we made our way toward a large white tent with silver and white banners at its doors. I entered to see Ardôr and his sons waiting with us with Celeborn.
“Celeborn, son of Galadhon,” I said approaching him. “I have come to you as promised.”
“So you have,” he said. “I am indebted to you.”
“You need not be,” I said. “You know me well enough to know I would do anything to bring peace to my people. We have been cast asunder by the evil of Sauron for far too long. I wish to put an end to it. My life is a small price to pay should that be the cost.”
“Not you, Thranduil,” he said. “You will not fall here or anywhere I imagine. You might well be the strongest of our kin. I know you are the most headstrong of our kind.”
“I have lost too much not to be so,” I said. “Too much I have endured not to be strong when I must. But enough idle chatter. How do we bring about the fall of Dol Guldur once and for all?”
He went to his table as the tent began to fill with elves that would lead the charge. When everyone was accounted, I stood with Celeborn at his table with Fëaluin at my side. Before we could start, two elves entered.
“Many apologies for my lateness,” the first said. He had long hair of gold and grey eyes that seemed softened by tragedy but no less courageous.
“None is necessary,” Celeborn said smiling. “You remember Thranduil, do you not?”
“It has been quite a long time,” he began as he bowed. “Perhaps too long.”
“Galathil,” I said. “It has been too long.”
The other elf that entered stood beside Celeborn quietly. He bowed politely—his youth obvious to everyone, with his soft brown hair and deep green eyes.
“This is Ëarmîr,” Celeborn said. “He is council to me and my brother, Galathil.” I nodded and once again all fell quiet as we readied ourselves to discuss our offensive.
“Many orcs may not remain, but they fight no less fiercely,” Celeborn began.
“Their allegiance is to one greater than life itself—to the one that they have given what is left of a soul that remains within them.”
“It was the detriment that they parceled themselves thin,” Galathil said. “Quickly they fell at Angrenost underestimating that which they thought powerless.”
“The Ents,” Ëarmîr said softly. “They left few to retreat save one or two—far less than what returned from the borders of Lothlórien.”
“We have the advantage of limiting when and where they fight surrounding their fortress,” I said. “But not long will it be before they decide to give all or nothing to what little they have left. Let the bowmen take as many down as allowed and the rest of us will wait for their emergence from squalor—for that what will be too much to bare.”
“I will prepare my men tonight,” Aradin said. “With the archers of Lothlorien, we should have plenty to surround the whole of Dol Guldur and hold them for days.”
I nodded and he rose and left quickly with Elmîr close behind.
“This will be the last battle we shall fight,” Celeborn said.
“It has to be,” I said. “For if we do not win, everyone in this world will live in darkness.”
**** **** **** ****
After much discussion, I left Celeborn’s tent for mine. I knew at first light, my last battle would begin. I looked South to a familiar sightthe flames of Orodruin. As they had burned for as long as I could remember, I thought of all that were fighting not far from where so many of my warriors fell beside my father.
“Ada,” I heard behind me. “Might I have a word?”
“Yes, Tarthôn,” I answered as I entered my tent with him.
I sat in my seat beside my table as Tarthôn sat on my chaise nearby.
“What worries you,” I asked.
“You worry me,” he said. “I know what you lost in similar circumstances. I fear you would allow yourself to fall.”
“There is no need to worry,” I said smiling. “I would not do such a thing. I have had plenty of time think on it, but there were far more things I had to live for. You and Legolas, Nenduîl and Tárimë. My people. Êlúriel. I worry how it would be should I not return against my will.”
“You will return, Ada. And so will I.”
“Why are you so sure of such things,” I asked.
“Because, I was told,” he said. “Though I have a family of my own, I still in need of a father. You will keep your word you made to Melros. It still ails you.”
“Yes, son,” I answered. “It does.”
“You have nothing to worry about,” he began. “You are as great a father as you are a king. As Legolas, I will keep my word and return home.”
“You are a good son,” I said, remembering Melros’ words to me. “A very good son. I am proud to have raised you. You are much a part of me as Legolas.”
He smiled and bowed to me.
“See you at first light, Ada,” he said. "And when we complete our task, we will ride home together. I love you, Ada.”
“I love you as well, Tarthôn.”
He left me alone to think. Silence demands to be heard—it can be sharper than a blade and more painful. I tried to keep my thoughts from clashing like blades in my mind. I realized I had not fought many wars but one. There had only been times of peace intermingled with battles. When I found a calm within me, the darkness had begun to lighten. It was time once more to wage war with evil.
**** **** **** ****
In the twilight of the coming day, I saw that the elven troops had surrounded the garrison of Dol Guldur. The orcs would use their height to rain arrows down upon us. Aradin had positioned archers a distance away and as high as the crumbling remains of the walls of Dol Guldur. Surrounding Celeborn and Me were shields to deflect arrows away from troops at the slope. At the first ray of light, arrows fell from above and over us. I glanced at Celeborn and he nodded.
“Noro, thî,” he shouted and hundreds of elven warriors ran straight toward the ruins from which orcs ran to meet them in battle.
We rode into the fray together—into a fury that created its own winds with the blood of the slaughtered blowing in the air. I swung my sword until the pain was nearly unbearable when all of sudden everything stopped abruptly. I looked around me—not one elf nor one orc moved. They were looking to the south toward Mordor.
Friend and foe stood together watching what seemed out of place to us. We felt the earth rumbling and rolling as a wave on the sea. Orodruin seemed to turn from orange to red then fade to black. Only puffs of dark clouds erupted from it—eventually fading into daylight.
“It is done,” I heard Eldôr say to me. “It is finally done.”
“Perhaps,” Celeborn said. “But what there is left, we must destroy.”
As nothing had happened, the battle continued well into dusk when we found we stood amidst the corpses of orcs and some elves. I began to worry once more—my heart beating so loudly I heard not a word.
“Thranduil,” I heard.
I looked up to see Elranduil with Nimlos and Ardôr, Orísil and Tarthôn. I felt some comfort when I saw Eldôr speaking with Celeborn and Galathil.
“Where is Êlenuil,” I asked. “And his brother Elendôr?
“There,” Elranduil pointed.
I looked to see them alive and well, speaking with Aruilos, Elmîr and Fëaluin. When I saw Isílion and Tárion with Haldir, Orophin and Rúmil, I knew our loses were very few. It took me some time to reach land unsoiled by death. When I found my footing night had begun to fall.
“We can rest,” Galathil said. “For the first time, we can rest. The ring has been destroyed.”
“We will return to Mirkwood tomorrow,” I said. “Victorious.”
I went to my tent for the first time feeling thousands of years of darkness no longer weighing down the night as the stars seemed to shine brighter than they have since I was a youth.”––TKWR:BII The Saga of Thranduil (EXT. VER.) by J. Marie Miller 12-22-17
Fairest of them All
Tumblr media
Summary: You move to Rivendell and meet a very handsome elf.
Pairings: Glorfindel x Reader
Word Count: 768
Requested by: Anon
A/N: Dear Anon, I’m so sorry it took forever :( I have a hard time writing characters that I haven’t seen in the movies. Like I stated earlier, I haven’t read the books. I do hope you like it...
Master Lists: Drabbles/Imagines, and Completed Series
The winter air around Rivendell was quite relaxing. It seemed to never change seasons. There was only one season and a few rain storms here and there and you had glad you had chosen to live here instead.
You were originally from Greenwood and when your parents had sailed to Valinor, you had decided you needed a change of scenery. Thranduil had approved of your moving and had sent word to Lord Elrond that you were coming.
That was nearly three months ago.You had arrived a few days ago and you were currently roaming around Rivendell to get to know your new home better.
You turn the corner only to bump into something or rather someone.
"I'm sorry my lady. I wasn't-," the person starts but they stop as you look up at him.
The elf in front of you was absolutely gorgeous. His blonde hair was blonder than King Thranduil's; it could even be considered yellow.He had a cheerful look about him; different from the other elves. He was tall. Taller than you and his face was young, but knowing elves he could be thousand and thousands of years old.
"Forgive me, ?" You start pausing to get his name.
"Glorfindel," he supplies with a slight nod of his head.
Oh.
You had hear stories about him.
About how he had died in the first age but had been sent back by the Valar with powers that were said to be as great as the Maiar.
"I am y/n," you say with a small smile on your face and he smiles back.
"Please do forgive me, Lady y/n. I should have watched where I was going," he states and you shake your head.
"It is impossible to see around corners unless you are some kind of wizard," you tell him and he laughs.
You decide that you liked his laugh.
"And while I do enjoy speaking to the fairest maiden in Rivendell, I must be on my way. Hopefully I will see you around?” He ask, bending down to kiss your hand and looking at you from his bowed position.
“I think I’d like that,” you tell him blushing.
Glorfindel smiles and straightens out before leaving.
You take a few steps forward and stop to look back at the elf. You blush more as you realize he’s looking back at you as well.
You scuttle around the corner, but not before hearing his laughter.
Over the next few months, you ran into Glorfindel very often. You sometimes thought that it was on purpose, but you had no problem with that. You two had gotten quite close and you couldn’t get enough of each other.
“Y/n!” You hear a voice shout and you turn to find Glorfindel running up behind you. You smile as you watch his golden hair sway behind him.
“There's the most beautiful maiden in Rivendell,” he says, blue eyes lighting up as he comes closer.
You roll your eyes.
You never took him seriously when he said that.
“Must you always jest?” You ask him, giggling.
He frowns.
“I never jest about that. You are honestly the most beautiful elf maiden that I have ever laid eyes on,” he says and you look away, frowning.
He cups your cheek in his hand, turning you to face him. You look into his eyes, waiting for a sign that he was lying.
He wasn’t.
“I had always thought you beautiful since the day we both bumped into each other. I suppose you could say it was love at first sight,” Glorfindel states, eyes search yours.
“L-Love?” You stutter out.
“Yes, love. I have never felt this way about any woman I have ever met in my long years of life and I hope that you feel the same way,” he mumbles.
He was nervous. Did he really think you would turn him down? He was your only friend here. The only person besides Lord Elrond and his family and Lindir that made you feel welcomed. You could not think of finding another elf to care for more than you did Glorfindel.
You smile at him and that causes the corner of his lips to lift as well.
“I have felt the same way since we ran into each other, Finny,” you say and he groans. He hated that nickname.
“You’re going to be the death of me,” he replies, taking your hands in his.
“As long as I’m with you, nothing could could be better,” you say and he smiles at you, bending down to press a kiss to your lips.
