2023 in review! I made an effort to try more things and it worked mostly (at least for TV and movies). New things, new-to-me things, and new installments of old things all had characters to love even if I didn't necessarily feel fannish about them, and I'm hoping 2024 does, too.

I have noticed a Trend:
Start a new anime! Cool mc is a young adult man, and he's a lil scrawny but like, that's to be expected. He starts doing all the cool mc stuff like fighting and training, and I think "okay, design update incoming :)" thinking they'll add a reasonable amount of muscle proportionate to the character's body and what they've been doing!
I'm always wrong. Next scene/episode/ whatever he's super buff and built, barely even the same body type, and still has the same face. The baby face on buff characters murders me. Every. Single. Time. 1 hit KO. I'm obliterated.
Just... drives me bonkers.

Truly one of the most amazing things I have come to discover during the reemergence of my hunter x hunter hyperfixation is the entirety of Leokuraudio. The events/punchlines that occur in them are so baffling to me in the best way possible.
For instance, what on earth do you mean that the creators of hxh 1999 decided to make a spin-off audio series that begins by introducing Leorio as an old man, and his grandson? The grandson finds a discarded set of audio tapes. When he confronts Leorio about what they are, he is hit by a massive wave of nostalgia, and tells his grandchild about how they were a podcast series he made back in the day while traveling the world, with, in his own words, his "very best friend" (Kurapika). They then begin to listen to the tapes, which is how we get the whole story.
What on earth do you mean there is an episode where Kurapika goes in a time machine to met Grandpa Leorio? Only, after he is done and decides to return back to the present, the machine is malfunctions and standing before him is Leorio as a toddler. He repeatedly begins to insist that Kurapika is a woman to which Kurapika is so annoyed by that he ends up yelling at a literal child. (By the way, Toddler Leorio still has the voice of a fully grown man as he continues to insult Kurapika.)
What on earth do you mean that are multiple episodes revolving around a robot that Leorio had built to perfectly resemble Kurapika? He had attempted to use it for cleaning and to take care of him while he was sick, only, Kurapika-robo starts to malfunction at the very mention of a spider's web and begins to repeatedly scream "chain" as it pelts Leorio with an actual chain. (Gon and Killua are even aware of the robot's existence while Kurapika himself remains oblivious of the whole charade until one of the very last episodes, where he walks in, shocked to find his mechanical evil twin. Leorio's only reaction to being caught is to exclaim "Ah the real one!!")
Speaking of Leorio, what on earth do you mean these audios consist of episodes of Leorio falling off Heaven's Arena, Leorio almost dying in an avalanche, Leorio getting lost in space....? (In short, Leorio goes through a lot but he has plot armor and Kurapika's assistance so it’s ok.)
And speaking of Kurapika, what on earth do you mean Leokuraudio has one of the most stoic characters within the entire series actually end up giving in to his phenomenal sense of humor? They really had him interrupting Leorio just to scream "that was ball!" in response to his attempted english pronunciations. There are so many more instances in which he does sassy shit like this too.
What on earth do you mean that each episode has unique, overly dramatic introduction for both Kurapika and Leorio? (There was one that specifically introduced Kurapika as the "sort of guy that when dressed as a woman gets hit on by other guys" and Leorio as "the sort of guy that when dressed as a woman gets arrested.")
What on earth do you mean that the entire comedic punchline of the "moody" audios is that they are essentially just clean parodies sensual/erotic audios from the 90’s? (described as "echi echi" by the two of them). Hearing the both of them say “soooo moody” to one another over and over again in the most suggestive voice ever was just....an experience to say the least. I truly cannot fathom how Togashi allowed these audios to air, yet, I am so grateful he did.
But it's also just mainly so fun to watch Kurapika and Leorio not be in a constant crisis and just have strings of conversation that are genuinely very sweet at times. I could go on and on, but for the sake of the length of this post, in conclusion, everything about Leokuraudio is just so utterly surreal yet so insanely hilarious. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Chrollo Lulcifer x outgoing reader
Tumblr media
no gender specified here so i guess you can count it as gn. btw this is separate from my phantom troupe hcs i’m planning on grouping those :)
(for the record I will still do the rest of the poll results just wanted to post some hxh content as I haven’t in a while <3)
enjoy<3
seeing as though your outgoing if you didn’t meet from the troupe you probably came up to him first
but for these headcanons im gonna go with a reader who’s in the troupe
and childhood friends troupe too :)
ngl your special
your just as important to him as pakunoda
and canonly she was dear to him
so when you came up to him all excited about those tapes they were doing
something sparked in him and he wanted to be your friend instantly
back then you had to be careful who you trust
so he didn’t rush in and become best friends with you overnight
but he definitely enjoyed the time he spent with you
you even got a few episodes in the tapes!!
that was the happiest moment of your childhood
back to present 😋
Chrollo doesn’t mind your need to be active and in fact it’s motivating to him to be as well
he takes you out to as many events and outings as you want
although i’ll say he’s more reserved so your doing the talking and he’s doing the nodding and smiling
he doesn’t mind when you have plans with your friends but just make sure to make time for him
it’ll make him feel lonely if your out having fun and he’s just sitting around with the realization that he has no friends
that’s not in the troupe anyway
its like despite being in the troupe you’d still manage to find a somewhat normal life
he kind of envies that
to be able to still have a sort of morals and such
and not be alienated, y’know?
having a sense of self, in a way.
he does suggest more indoor or private dates and activities
and as much as you love him you just would prefer going out and doing something fun
so he finds loop wholes :)
mounting climbing! your still out and about but your alone!
and since your in the troupe he doesn’t worry about falling much
seeing as though you can handle your own
still keeps and eye out for you though
especially if your not the strongest physically
you also put forth effort for more one on one dates
like watching movies in the bed
its perfect for when your sleepy especially
like you have a whole routine of fun yet tiring mini adventures
and then you get to come back and cuddle with your lover 💗
isn’t that sweet?!
your probably a physically affectionate person
you can give him as much affection in private as you want
with just you two, you can kiss on the cheek, lips, forehead, hands, neck, hug him, cuddle, whatever!
in public it’s more so just occasional cheek kisses, holding onto his arm and holding hands
sometimes you turn things into a game or your just really playful
splashing in the supposed to be a romantic bath
hoping on his back and making him give you a piggyback ride on what was supposed to be a romantic walk
he loves you though, so he never says anything about it
it doesn’t really irk him like that anyway
its another one of those
‘it’s you, so it’s endearing’ moments
buys you all kinds of gifts
typical for chrollo headcanons but i just had to mention it
oh did i say buy?
i meant steal
its not like you don’t know or anything
especially since your in the troupe yourself
i will say pda is hands off in front of the troupe
hes the boss, and your boss, and needs to keep up a reputation
he’s cried in front of the troupe before in that one scene
so it’s not really him being afraid to be vulnerable
it’s just that this is business
he needs to focus
not kisses and cuddles right now. okay honey?
he talks over the troupe’s next moves with you before telling the other members
even more so if your highly intelligent or good at planning
alr im gonna end it here<3
it’s a little bit short but i think it’s a decent length🧍‍♀️. anyway i’m gonna work on some more drafts now cyaa! hope you enjoyed💓

My opinion about Luffy and the world of one piece.
Tumblr media
What does Luffy or One Piece in general mean to you?
I'll start! This is completely my opinion and my personal feelings!
I should start off my saying I am a hard person to please. I'm extremely "picky" with every aspect of my life. For example: I hate it when my food touches, even when I'm eating it. I eat it in order. there are exceptions though. I do like for my collard greens and rice to touch but only if I put them together. I still plate them separately.
It's ridiculous and sooo annoying but its a serious thing for me. It's like trying to swallow a pill. I physically cannot force myself to swallow anything that dont fit those standards.
It's like this for every aspect of my life. Books, movies, JOBS, tv shoes, etc..
the first time I tried watching one piece i turned it off maybe not even a minute after watching the first half of the first episode. I remember seeing nami at a party and her looking out to see the whirlpool and I got the wrong idea about what the anime was about so i swore off it.
Maybe a year later I saw a instagram post. It was basically saying how they didnt understand how they found a pirate story about some kid made of rubber kicking everyone's asses entertaining. I was in disbelief and kind of took it as a challenge. It sounded absolutely ridiculous to me at the time so I gave it another shot.
As soon as Luffy popped out of that barrel knocking one of those guys out saying he'd catch a cold for sleeping right there? I was laughing. ME? LAUGHING? To say I was sold would be an understatement.
Then theres the part where Luffy expresses his dream to be king. It wasnt because of some overused reason like very other anime like childhood trauma. It was because he wanted to. Thats it and thats all. I was blown away. My heart raced with excitement after that speech from luffy and I binged watched the episodes from then on.
I was obsessed. (Still obsessed) Back then I was still in highschool and I was binging the episodes from the moment I woke up, during all my classes and lunch, after school and falling asleep to it.
I think the only anime I binged like that would be HXH another anime I'm still obsessed with.
One of the funniest episodes of one piece for me is 497. I was rewatching the marine ford arc and I was in tears laughing at this episode.
But back to the question!
As a young woman of color? Luffy is a dream to me. Luffy is the perfect mixture of malcom x and MLK. He's what I think the world needs. He's one of a damn kind, there is NO character like him or story like one piece PERIOD and there's no amount of hate from naruto fans that'll make that less true.
The only character that is unafraid of crying, laughing, fucking up, tripping up in front of friends and enemies alike.
insanely selfish but he's strong. He can have his friends, hell he can make new friends and have them ALL by his side or far away from him. All alive and fucking thriving, why? because he fucking said so. He's strong in more ways than one. He has that luxury.
He's unafraid of asking for help. He has never once acted as though everyone else is beneath him and he can do everything by himself.
Gets pissed when he finds his vest with flowers sewed into it, wanting to be a manly man but unbothered at eating all the love themed food sanji makes specifically for nami and robin.
He has asked forced Pirate Hunter Zoro to join his crew? Nah thats just zoro his best friend and the guy who ate stomped out sand covered chocolate rice balls out of respect for the little girl he saved from Helmeppo.
Cat burglar nami? Nami the navigator. Her maps and weather skills are unreal!
Sniper king the liar? Yup but he's a damn good sharpshooter.
Black Leg/ Vinsmoke Sanji isnt he apart of a family of comicbook villians? Thats just Sanji! One of the best chefs in the world!
Tony Tony Chopper the raccoon dog that happens to be a doctor? Oh no thats chopper. Our crews miracle treasure. He's a talking reindeer monster.
The demon child is on your crew? Huh? Demon child? You can't mean robin! She's a good friend of mine and she's an archeologist! I'd have to kick your ass if you think otherwise! :D
Cyborg Franky? Oh yeah I couldnt take the sunny without him! They're a package deal!
The humming swordsman? Oh you mean brook! He's a talking, singing afro skeleton not to mention hilarious! The part about him being a sword-swinging musician was just a plus!
The first son of the sea jinbei...A fishman? Hell yeah! He's THE fishman! Jinbei is a good friend of mine and the 10th member I've been looking for!
Luffy's crew is a dumpster fire of diversity. That right there is rare within itself. I mean it's a Japanese show, yet most of the main characters aren't japanese! They originate from a little bit of everywhere across the globe!
They all look different and act different. They are all flawed and yet Luffy accepts them with open fucking arms with his TRADEMARKED grin nearly splitting his face in half!
Speaking of accepting them! Luffy is always overjoyed when reuniting with his crew. Jumping to give them hugs, screaming his hellos, jumping up and down, lunging forward to give them hugs, and waving with excitement at the sight of his friends.
I mean Luffy is unfucking matched. Even his voice is one of a kind and so fucking satisfying for his dialogue??
Two of my favorite quotes from Luffy are:
"I'm kicking your ass and wrecking your birdcage."
"Speak up for yourself, aren't you the leader of these guys? SAY SOMETHING ALREADY!"
Luffy's very name holds mind-melting weight.
I just recently found out that his brother ace was the one that came up with "Gum gum Rocket." Something I'm now pissed at OPLA for giving Garp the credit of.
Luffy as a captain doesnt do major plans or specific orders. He says something and his crew either follows along or finds their own objective for example the punk hazard arc when law asked luffy if he was going to leave his crew on the island to do what they said they wanted to do and leave with him to fight kaido.
Luffy refused saying if his crew was staying to get their own things done then so was he and that Law had to get used to it quick.
Luffy is freedom in physical form. There one second and gone the next. Something that gave Law heart palpitations.
ALSO SCREW YOU LAW FOR TELLING CHOPPER TO SHUT UP WHEN HE TOLD YOU BYE IN WANO!
Luffy has no rhyme or reason for doing things the way he does other than the fact that thats just who he is. Something that only Zoro and Robin TRULY understand. Chopper understood this recently, just before the time-skip.
For example when big mom assumed luffy was there in wano to pick a fight with kaido and luffy denied it sternly.
confusing everyone around him including nami and carrot.
He went onto say everyone not only responsible but associated would be getting their asses kicked.
And thats EXACTLY what happened.
Zoro wasnt even there for that and he was already cutting the majority of their members in half.
MIND YOU. LUFFY AND HIS CREW DIDNT PLAN ANYTHING. NOR WERE THEY AWARE OF THAT PLAN. ALL THEY HAD WERE DISGUISES AND THEIR WITTS.
You'd think that with every plan luffy screws up they'd be major consequences? NOPE bc he's stronger than that. Everyone else would have to adapt or get their asses kicked.
jinbei fought with luffy in the fishman island arc. not wanting luffy to make matters worse, instead wanting him to be seen as a hero to which luffy refused saying he's not a hero and that he had to get to his friends... until jinbei said and i quote. "Luffy, I'll let you have all the meat you want! Just do as I say!"
To which luffy agreed after a few more pleas.
friends and enemies are one in the same to him.
You want to hit him? Fine he doesnt care. but Lie to him? He's about to shove his foot up your ass.
You want to take credit for his wins unless your law or kid? Hell yeah! Couldn't have done it without you!
You want to defend him? Dont bother. This is his business. Stay the hell out of it.
You want to cry? Suck it up! Crying wont fix anything so get the fuck up and do something about it already!
You want to ask him for help? Sure! Anything! As long as you're the right person asking!
You want to call him a hero? Literally might knock your lights out.
You want to put him down in history and tell everyone what he and his crew did? Don't bother he's not interested.
I mean the list goes on and on. I can talk about luffy and one piece for HOURS and never get bored.
Luffy is a dream to me. I tear up thinking about him and wishing to be apart of that world for even a day.
Thats what Luffy means to me.

I geniunly believe that Mob Psycho 100 is one of the best (right after HxH) pieces of media I have ever consumed. I do not understand why it doesnt get the recognition it deserves… ALL the characters are so likeable, it’s an amazing mix of slice of life AND action, the mc goes through stuff that many people and teens can actually relate to (except the powers…) AND Reigen is SOO hot. WHAT MORE CAN YOU NEED????
I just finished the third season and I do not know what I am supposed to do with my life now. It left a hole that I am not sure can be filled.
Bonus point to the fact that while I was watching the last episodes, there was a thunderstorm outside. Really sets the mood :P

Kalluto would get along with Gon because he is similar to him. They never really talked, it's a shame.
I say they are similar because I was rewatching episode 97 of hxh, in which the troupe goes to defend the meteor city from the chimera ants, and Kalluto seemed to be dedicating himself to getting stronger and recovering his brother (Killua, probably). He says things like “I’m still very weak”, “I’m still inferior to all of them”, and “I need to do everything I can to get my brother back”. (I watched it in portuguese so maybe it's a little different in english, you might not remember these words because I made a literal translation).
Anyway, you see? Gon also felt weak many times along his path and worked hard to become stronger and find Ging.
Despite being an assassin, Kalluto seems to have that feeling of camaraderie that Gon shows he values several times in the series, he proposes helping Feitan defeat Zazan ("shouldn't we help him?"), he even got a little indignant when the troupe's response was "if Feitan loses, the next one will go".
They are both trying hard to reach someone and that's why I think they would understand each other.

a difference between the experience of reading the natsuyuu manga and watching the anime which is only interesting to me is that there's no distinction between special chapters and regular ones in the anime. the reason i find that interesting is that the specials are, so far in my reread, the only chapters that spend any time completely outside of natsume's POV. when we see other characters' perspectives in regular chapters, it's typically part of an extended monologue or a memory being transmitted to natsume, so we're still not really leaving his perspective. the only times we leave his POV are when he's physically not present in a scene, and in those instances we usually don't get any narration or interior monologue from the other characters.
tanuma in "a suspicious visitor" is the only exception i can think of off the top of my head, though i'm sure there are others i'll get to and just don't remember at the moment. the scene between matoba and ban at the end of the homura arc, for example, is outside of natsume's POV by necessity but is pure dialogue with no interior narration because these are not characters to whom we have that kind of access! (for more on matoba's elusive subjectivity see sp15, says tumblr user worldunbent.)
the special chapters jump all over the place; so far i've gotten to chapters from the perspectives of little fox, an unnamed youkai, nyanko, tanuma, and hinoe (although hinoe's chapter is framed as a story she's telling natsume, so it could have fit in a regular chapter). they have a separate numbering system from the regular chapters, are much shorter, and almost always come at the end of volumes*. in the anime, however, there's absolutely nothing to distinguish the episodes adapting the specials from the ones adapting regular chapters other than the POV shifts, which gives anime-only viewers a very different impression of how the series approaches character interiority. i don't think there's anything wrong with this as an adaptation move and it's pretty much necessary, but it's just notable because in a series that's all about how people see the world differently, the choice to make such a distinction between chapters in the protagonist's POV and chapters from everyone else's POV is a significant one.
the reason i'm paying so much attention to POVs in this reread in the first place is because i've been listening to the podcast media club plus and jack, who is pretty new to anime, keeps pointing out the constant perspective shifts in hunter x hunter and the other hosts are like, "yeah, that's normal." this post from another listener expands on how and why it works as a genre norm in shonen battle anime/manga specifically. so now i'm just cursed to be hyperaware of POV shifts in anime/manga, and given that the three series i'm reading/watching at the moment are hxh, dungeon meshi, and natsuyuu, natsuyuu really stands out in how rarely it leaves natsume's head in the regular chapters. i guess i need to go read some more shoujo for a larger sample size lol
Tumblr media
*i have a chapter spreadsheet 🤓 and the exceptions to this are sp18, which is just stuck in the middle of v22, sp20, which is the second-to-last chapter of v24, and sp21, which is the first chapter of v25. i understand the placement of sp20, which is "intermission detectives" and makes sense to have as an break between regular chapters, but i'll have to figure out what sp18&21 are doing when i get to them.

my thoughts on hxh: chimera ant arc
There is a LOT of spoilers in this post. Also, a warning: this is a long post...I got very into my hxh watch. I had just finished watching Chimera Ant Arc, and my thoughts were too many to keep to myself. so much has happened, the writing, the character development, the suffering, all of it was just so well done.
I know people say this arc is much "slower" at first, and I understand why that's said. But I didn't once think any part of this arc was boring. It felt like each episode was perfectly crafted for the climax of the arc to take effect. Not one moment was wasted. Every episode had its purpose, which was to push the plot along.
Several episodes got me thinking and super involved in the story, so I wanted to highlight some of them. Also, I apologize in advance for my VERY BAD screenshots!
Tumblr media
killua
In this arc, we saw a different version of the "cool" character we were introduced with. Compared to the first few arcs, Killua was known for his calm demeanor; he wasn't afraid and was pretty confident in himself. However, with his arc, he had to come face to face with his insecurities. For once in his life, Killua was SCARED to go into a fight. Unlike Gon, it isn't about WILL he fight but whether or not Killua CAN win. It's an entirely different type of thinking. I knew that issue would have occurred later in the arc, but I didn't expect how it would be handled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ep 85 was so beautiful. It shows how much Killua loves Gon and how he resents himself for running away from Pitou. While Killua thinks of how unqualified and weak he is, there’s Gon being a positive light. And Killua doesn’t believe he deserves it. Killua felt guilty about what he did even though it was in their best interest, and Kite wanted them to go. Kite knew he would die, and he didn’t want them to get hurt. Killua beats himself up over his decision, and Gon responds with kindness.
Tumblr media
The one to make Killua come face to face with his flight instinct was Bisky. She tells him, “You’re too quick to give up” and “You always assume the worst-case scenario,” which is true. What I love most about this scene is that the only way for Killua to stay with Gon is to overcome this fear. It’s so well written. Out of all the times to have this inner conflict come into play, it was such a good move to have it happen during this arc. Throughout this arc, Killua's battle is more internal rather than external. He’s constantly battling his instincts in a fight, knowing that to quit his habits, he needs to stay and fight, but he also wants to run away because of Illumi’s needle increasing his fear.
Tumblr media
Ep 94 was the height of Killua's problem. He pushes through his fight with the chimera ant, thinking about Gon, wanting to protect him, having all their moments flash through his mind. Gon has impacted Killua's life, and despite his fears, he PUSHED THROUGH AND FOUGHT and even ripped out the implant in the process.
This entire arc was so good for Killua's development. Not only did he face his fears, but he also became a friend to someone. In episode 113, we see Killua forget about the plan he made and rush forward to save his friend. At first, I was confused about why he was acting this way, only to realize that Killua has always been about following the plan. Not to lose track, to do what he needs to do, and to keep moving forward. But he knew his friend was in trouble, and his body ACTED ON ITS OWN. This is what friendship is. To save those you care about without any thought behind it. Killua has come such a long way, and this scene makes me feel so emotional.
Tumblr media
Ep 124 broke my heart. After burying all his emotions, watching his best friend change into someone unrecognizable, and having to fight Palm, Killua finally reaches his breaking point and cries. Although it was initially thought to be a strategic move, he couldn’t keep it together anymore. He wants to help Gon but realizes he can’t do anything whatsoever. Gon is fighting all by himself with no room for help, and all Killua can do is watch from the sidelines.
Although Killua went through so much emotional turmoil, this arc made him a stronger and better person. He’s no longer the same Killua as he once was. He’s more sure of himself, and he’s opened himself up to others. He isn’t afraid to do all he can to save his loved ones. Even if he’s hurt over what happened with Gon, he won’t give up on him.
gon
Compared to Killua, Gon has always been stubborn when it comes to a fight. He won’t ever give up, even with the odds stacked against him. he doesn’t know when to quit. Time and time again, he allows himself to get beat up because he can’t allow himself to lose. Despite this stubbornness, Gon has been a light in everyone’s lives. His overwhelming positivity has brought so much joy to many characters, especially Killua.
In this arc, we see a completely different side of Gon. Kite's character was one that I grew really attached to, and watching him take Gon and Killua under his wing was so nice. Kite was a strong and great person who valued the lives of animals and people. I thought Kite would be like Bisky in this arc and help Gon become stronger. However, everything changes when Kite forces Gon and Killua to run from Pitou.
Just like Killua, Gon has to come face to face with his weakness. Although he has grown from the hunter exam arc, it isn’t enough to defeat any ants. Despite this issue, Gon is the one who believes Kite can be saved. Gon is very naive and innocent. It’s evident to the audience Kite is dead; even Killua has doubts about him being alive, but Gon's stubbornness won’t allow him to accept this thought.
Tumblr media
It isn’t until episode 116 that Gon's rage begins to hit his breaking point. It’s so odd to watch Gon be so stubborn in such an aggressive way. He’s so angry, and all that rage is bubbling over, spilling all over the place with nowhere to go. Gon even goes as far as threatening to kill Komugi, AN INNOCENT CIVILIAN, if it means Pitou will heal Kite. It’s so unsettling to see how different Gon changed because of his anger.
Tumblr media
Episodes 130 & 131 were not only perfectly executed but also heartbreaking. I felt like my heart was ripped out. Gon believed Kite could be saved this whole time. He had a plan, thought it out, and stuck with it, and Kite is still dead. His inner dialogue was heart-wrenching. Going from “it’s my fault” to “NO! IT’S PITOU” back and forth was so well done. He finally reached his breaking point. He had been latching on to the certainty that Kite could be saved, only to find out that was never happening. All of Gon's rage coming out at this moment, using up his life to kill Pitou. It was so violent, so unlike him. How much he’s changed mentally and physically was shown so well here. Killua runs to save Gon, only to see he’s too far gone. I can’t begin to explain how well done episode 131 was. I was shocked, hurt, scared, and so sad. All of Gon's anger has come down to this moment. And I don’t know if Gon and Killua could move on from this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The end of the Chimera Ant arc was so emotional for me. With Gon's life at risk, Killua is upset that Gon did everything on his own again, and the uncertainty of how these two boys will heal from this arc makes me so stressed. Overall, Gon's story in this arc was so well executed. Although it was so heartbreaking to watch Gon turn into someone unrecognizable, I will never get over how beautifully written it all was. The subtle changes, his inner conflict, his rage, all of these new parts of Gon were done with such care.
meruem and komugi
I did not like Meruem at first. I spent the beginning of the arc anxious about the birth of the King, so when he finally was born, I was so stressed. He was violent from the moment he killed his mother, killing innocent people like it was nothing, and had the power to take over a whole country. He was terrifying to me because I knew there was no way he could be defeated.
However, when Komugi was introduced, I knew everything would change. Meruem was simply passing the time, wanting to defeat every game master, but when Komugi came into the picture, it was clear things would change for Meruem. Komugi was the one person Meruem could not beat, and he had every intention of playing with her for as long as he could.
He even goes as far as ripping his arm off because he realizes how seriously Komugi takes this game. She believes it’s her only reason for living, and if she can no longer win, she will end her life. It was so fascinating watching Meurem listen so intently to A HUMAN. Meruem doesn’t understand basic human concepts like empathy, yet he takes the time to listen to her talk about herself.
Tumblr media
Ep 108 was such a good episode. Meruem was battling his instinct to kill while also being affected by Komugi's humanity. Wanting to know her name, more about her, getting upset that she’s hurt, and doing nothing to protect herself. He has to remind himself that he’s the strongest creature on earth, yet when he sees her hurt, he crumbles down worried. This was such an amazingly written episode that highlighted Meruem's subtle personality changes.
Tumblr media
Ep 112 was such a tense episode, especially because of how angry Meruem was. His aura had even Netero frozen in his spot. Not one person moved during that moment; everyone was subconsciously afraid to move a muscle. It was so eery and made me nervous for everyone in that room. I honestly thought he was going to kill everyone in his sight, but he calmly told Pitou to heal her and walked out like Netero and Zeno didn’t matter.
Tumblr media
Ep 122 highlighted Meruem's development so well that he now wants to use his strength to protect the weak. Most of those changes are thanks to Komugi. He wavers between ant and human without even realizing it. Also, choosing to have a discussion with Netero instead of fighting was so surprising. He’s such a complex character that has quickly become a favorite of mine.
Tumblr media
The way he was written was done with so much care. His change was so gradual that it felt so realistic. Ep 135 was such a heartbreaking but beautiful ending. Meruem remembers Komugi and does everything he can to spend his last moments with her. I can not think of a better way to end Meruem's story.
chimera ant arc 10/10
Chimera Ant Arc was such a painful but fantastic experience. This arc was so perfectly done that I am still in shock, even after watching it weeks ago. I’m glad I finally started this series, and I can happily say it made it into my top 3 anime ever.

HxH Uvogin Death Foreshadowing (???)
I actually wanted to make a different post today but PLANS CHANGED DRASTICALLY WHEN I WAS JUST WATCHING SOME HXH YORKNEW CITY EPISODES- I originally wanted to just listen to something while doing my boring paperwork- BUT I FF NOTICED SOMETHING
Tumblr media
(sry for the german but I had no other screenshot rn) This is what happens in Episode 43. Nothing new, I know. Bro summons his lil guys and gets killed. bUt MaSaK, wHaT iS sO sPeCiAl AbOuT tHiS nOw? HEAR ME THE FUCK OUT- U see the name of the ability?? LOOK AT IT. LOOK.
Tumblr media
"the eleven from the [...]" bro's ability is to summon ELEVEN of these cute guys. as we all know these boyos get killed by Franklins gunfire. Plus bro himself dies. RIP there btw-
bUt MaSaK- NO HEAR ME OUT you know who I think of first whenever I see/hear the number ELEVEN? YEAH U GUESSED IT. UVOGIN. cuz 11 is his number. No shit sherlock. AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENS TO UVO. Yes. HE FUCKING DIES. (sry for putting salt in the wound here rn) BUT THINK ABOUT IT- And that's not all.
When the bro dies, his last words are: "Guys flee! And tell the Boss-" and then he dies.
So what I wanna say with this now, this guy died by protecting his people (at least he tried, okay). He sacrificed himself for the rest of the group. Uvo literally did the same. THEY HAVE A DAMN SIMILAR DEATH.
ALSO, there's more :) 3 of the bodyguards died during this. And now use your memory system to remember how many legs the spider lost in the yorknew city arc. Yes 3. Uvogin, Pakunoda and Hisoka. I know Hisoka didn't die and he never really was part of the troupe, like the others. But an empty place is an empty place.
I obviously can only say this as a theory. Idk if this was intended by Togashi at all. BUT IF IT WAS- THEN OMG- THEN THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST FORESHADOWINGS I EVER SAW. IT'S BEEN OVER 4 YEARS SINCE I WATCHED THIS ANIME AND I AM REALIZING THIS NOW.
In addition,
when Feitan killed the one Mafia dude who didn't die with the others that Franklin killed, the guy says somethig like "we gonna hunt you down and kill you and your family" Feitan being Feitan just laughed it off. But Feitan ff jinxed it.
Tumblr media
Live Uvo reaction when he finds out Feitan jinxed it all from the beginning-

ok i mentioned that i watched hxh 1999 the other week when i was sick and i also rewatched 2011 (minus the ch*m*ra *nt arc) so here r some expanded thoughts on the 2 adaptations:
why tf would 2011 cut kite out of the first episode(s). this is unforgivable. it UNBELIEVABLY weakens the entire ch*m*ra ant arc (i hate it to begin with but cutting gon’s previous connection to kite makes is so much stupider)
2011 hisoka would tear 1999 hisoka to PIECES. 99 hisoka is just kinda weird and off-putting but 2011 hisoka is TERRIFYING and charismatic and seductive and disgusting and 85% of the heavy lifting is done by namikawa daisuke’s voice acting but he has so much more PRESENCE in ‘11
99 gon is so babey omg. look at him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2011 killua is also extremely babey and i like that, but i also like how he seems a bit older in 99. i don’t prefer one take over the other i just like the flavor variations it adds
99 cut most of the kastro fight?? WHY?
2011 really nerfed leorio lmao when i was watching 2011 i was like theres no way this guy should have passed the hunter exam. but in 99 it’s a little more believable because he’s not a complete dolt. justice for my man he ain’t done anything wrong
the choreo and technical aspects of kurapika vs uvo are better in 2011 but 99 really hammers home how disgusted and conflicted krpk is over the whole thing. i loved his prayer before the fight begins and his breakdown when it ended. how completely done in he was by just one fight with one spider. 2011 focuses more on his anger and doesn’t give it the gravity it needs (KURAPIKA ⛓️IS DROWNING🌊IN AN INDESCRIBABLE EMPTINESS 🕳️🚶‍♂️🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶😝) (WHAT WERE THEY THINKING)
the fight between chrollo and the zoldycks seemed weird to me in 2011 because it takes place in a bright yellow room. 1999 gave it a much darker atmosphere that i think it deserves
it CANNOT be understated just how much of a difference mozart’s lacrimosa/dies irae makes in 2011. the 1999 requiem was so empty without it
i know it’s filler but i really really like how gon meets leorio first in 99. they have such a special relationship and i think giving them a little side quest together before they meet the other boys was an inspired choice
they were not kidding, 1999 chrollo really does look like michael scott. tf
in 1999 kurapika actually seems like a boy. i cant explain it but 2011 kurapika will always be a girl to me
99 has a wealth of truly incredible gifs. illumi girl why did you fall like that. gon so real for bootyshaking when he gets same day shipping on his ps2. killua canon buttslapper friend. there's so much going on

Note
oh im also watching hxh for the first time! and i stg. gon wins over someone in every episode by being a lil weirdo.
oh have fun with your first time! hunter x hunter REALLY goes some places. gon is a somewhat disturbing freak of nature and one of my most beloved sons. all-timer protagonist for me. can't get enough of this guy and his bestie
