IâM NOT HIM
rafe cameron x fem!reader
( mood board does NOT depict readers appearance !! )
SUMMARY: in which rafe snaps at reader during a heated argument and she flinches, her past trauma resurfacing. rafe breaking the main promise he made to her: to not be anything like her father.
based on an ask i got that i lost </3 i hope the anon who requested it finds this, and this its what you asked for! iâm a little rusty with one-shots so just a short one to ease me into things again! :)
WARNINGS: angst to fluff, arguing, cursing, mentions of past childhood abuse (reader), mentions of a gun/brief mention of violence, trauma responses, crying. (lmk if i missed anything!!)
WORD COUNT: 900 words
THIRD PERSON +
Rafe Cameron wasnât the kind of man anyone would describe as soft. Not with the sharp edge in his voice, the perpetual storm behind his ocean eyes, and the way his knuckles bore scars from fights he barely remembered. He had spent his life battling demons, most of them inherited from Ward Cameron, and those fights had shaped him into someone who took no prisoners.
But with Y/N, none of that mattered.
Y/N was everything Rafe wasnâtâgentle, warm, full of an optimism he couldnât begin to understand but adored nonetheless. She radiated light, the kind that made him want to shield her from the darkness in himself. For two years, sheâd been his anchor, the one person who saw past the volatile exterior to the man buried beneath. And for two years, Rafe had promised himself that he would never hurt her.
But promises donât always hold in the heat of the moment.
The argument had started over something Y/N had brought up before: the gun in Rafeâs apartment. She hated it, hated what it represented, and hated the memories it dragged up for her.
âRafe, I told you,â she said, her voice quiet but firm. âI donât feel safe with it here. Please.â
Rafe, already wound tight from dealing with his fatherâs latest scheme and the growing weight of âthe business,â felt his patience snap like a rubber band stretched too far.
âItâs not a big deal, Y/N,â he muttered, pacing the living room. âItâs not like Iâm walking around with it in my hand. Itâs locked up, alright? Just drop it.â
Y/N didnât drop it. She rarely did when something mattered to her. âIt is a big deal, Rafe. I asked you to get rid of it. I thought you understood howââ
âI said fucking drop it!â Rafeâs voice thundered through the room, loud enough to make the walls seem smaller.
The words echoed in the sudden silence, bouncing off the tension between them. Rafe froze, immediately regretting the way heâd shouted, but it was too late.
Y/N stood there, trembling, her wide eyes glassy with unshed tears. Her lip wobbled as she tried to hold herself together, but Rafe saw the cracks forming.
âBabyâŚâ he said softly, taking a step toward her, reaching out his hand.
She flinched. Actually flinched.
It was like a knife to his chest, sharp and unrelenting. He knew her pastâknew about her fatherâs temper and the way it had scarred her. He knew that shouting brought her back to those dark, suffocating memories.
âIâm so sorry,â he whispered, his voice thick with panic. He reached out again, but she backed away, tears spilling down her cheeks.
âIâI canât,â she choked out before rushing to the bedroom and shutting the door behind her.
Rafe rushed after her before collapsing onto the floor, pressing his back against the wall beside the bedroom door. He could hear her quiet sobs on the other side, each one driving the guilt deeper into his chest.
He buried his face in his hands. âIâm so sorry, babyâ he murmured, voice breaking. âI didnât mean it. I didnât mean to scare you. Please, just⌠let me make it right.â
Her sobs continued, muffled but heartbreaking. Rafe rested his head against the door, tears streaming down his face. He could picture her inside, curled up in the corner, just like she used to do as a little girl to shield herself from her fatherâs rage. A place he promised her she wouldn't ever have to go back to.
âIâm not him,â he whispered, as much to himself as to her. âIâll never be him. I swear. Iâll never hurt you.â
Minutes turned into half an hour, but Rafe didnât move. He felt he didnât deserve to move.
When the door finally opened, Rafe almost didnât notice at first. Heâd been staring at the floor, lost in the heaviness of his own shame. But then Y/N was there, stepping out quietly and kneeling beside him.
Without a word, she crawled into his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face in his shoulder. Her touch was tentative, as if she wasnât entirely sure she could trust it yet, but Rafe held her like she was the only thing keeping him alive.
âIâm sorry,â he whispered over and over, his voice cracking as he clung to her. âI didnât mean it. I swear, Y/N/N. Iâm so sorry.â
Y/N didnât respond right away. She just held him, letting his warmth chase away the cold that had settled in her chest. Eventually, she pulled back just enough to look at him, her tear-streaked face breaking his heart all over again.
âPlease donât yell at me like that again,â she said softly, her voice trembling.
Rafe cupped her face gently, his thumb brushing away her tears. âI wonât,â he promised, his tone fierce with conviction. âNever again. Iâll get rid of the gun. Iâll do whatever it takes to make this right. Just⌠donât be afraid of me.â
âIâm not afraid of you,â Y/N said, her voice barely audible. âIâm afraid of the person you might become.â
Rafe nodded, the weight of her words sinking deep. He pressed a kiss to her forehead, holding her tightly again. âIâll be better,â he whispered. âFor you, Iâll be better.â
In that moment, Rafe vowed to prove it. Not with words, but with actionsâstarting with the gun.

offside | seungcheol
Author:Â bratzkoo Pairing:Â Hockey team player/captain! Seungcheol x Physical Therapist! reader Genre: fluff, chaos Rating: PG-13 Word count: 6.5k Warnings/note: i wrote this to start chaos. have fun reading!
summary:Â seungcheol's hockey teammates just wants a break from their captain's strictness with hockey practice and decides to force him to join a dating app.
taglist (hit me up if you wanna be added): @escoupseu , @yanabaaaaaaarysheva , @spnyin , @sousydive , @gyuguys
requests are open, but you can just say hi! | masterlist
"Desperate Times Call For Desperate Teamates"
"We need to do something," Seungkwan declared dramatically, sliding down the practice room wall. "I can't feel my legs, and I swear I saw Dino's soul leave his body during that last drill."
The maknae in question was indeed face-down on the floor, only managing a weak thumbs up to confirm his continued existence.
"He's gotten worse," Jeonghan observed from his position on the bench, watching their leader through the glass as Seungcheol reviewed practice footage. Again. "Yesterday, I caught him making a spreadsheet comparing different practice intensities. He color-coded it."
"That's... normal?" Vernon tried optimistically.
"At 3 AM, Vernonie. 3 AM."
A collective groan echoed through the room.
"Did you know," Mingyu started, still catching his breath, "he named his new hockey stick? I heard him calling it 'Dedication' while cleaning it."
"Better than last week's 'Discipline'," Wonwoo muttered, not looking up from his phone where he was apparently documenting their captain's concerning behaviors.
Jun raised his hand like a student in class. "Question: is it normal that he's memorizing the ice rink's maintenance schedule? He knows when they resurface the ice better than the zamboni driver."
"The driver's married, by the way," DK added helpfully. "Even the penalty box has more romance than our captain."
Hoshi suddenly sat up straight, eyes wide with his trademark tiger enthusiasm. "THAT'S IT!"
"Indoor voice, please," Woozi grumbled, rubbing his temples. "Some of us are still recovering from this morning's 'voluntary' extra practice."
"No, no, listen!" Hoshi was now pacing, his energy seemingly restored. "What does our Coups-hyung need?"
"A life?" Minghao suggested.
"Sleep?" from Joshua.
"Therapy?" Wonwoo pushed up his glasses.
"A GIRLFRIEND!" Hoshi announced triumphantly.
The practice room fell silent. Twelve pairs of eyes shifted to look at their captain through the glass, who was now rewinding the same play for what must have been the twentieth time.
"That..." Jeonghan started slowly, a mischievous smile spreading across his face, "might be the first useful thing you've said all year, Hoshi-yah."
"Hey!"
"No, no, he's onto something," Joshua leaned forward, already pulling out his phone. "Remember when Seungcheol-hyung had that crush on the girl from the coffee shop last year?"
"Oh yeah," Dino suddenly revived from his floor position. "He actually left practice on time for like two weeks."
"Until he scared her away by talking about hockey stats," Seungkwan reminded them.
"That's why," Jeonghan stood up, commanding attention like the second eldest should, "we need a plan. A mission."
"A mission impossible," Vernon quipped.
"Exactly!" Jeonghan pointed at him. "We need to get our captain a girlfriend before he turns this team into an Olympic training camp."
Woozi raised an eyebrow. "And how exactly do you propose we do that?"
"Simple," Jeonghan's smile grew wider, more dangerous. "We form committees."
"Oh no," Joshua muttered, knowing that look.
"Oh YES," Seungkwan perked up, loving that look.
And thus, Operation "Mission Impossible: Get Seungcheol a Girlfriend Because We're Afraid He's Gonna Be More Strict With Practice Like Let Him Get a Life Pls Pls Pls" was born.
"We need a shorter name," Wonwoo noted, already typing it in his phone.
"M.I.G.S.A.G.B.W.A.H.G.B.M.S.W.P.L.H.G.A.L.P.P.P?" Vernon tried.
"Perfect," Jeonghan clapped his hands. "Now, for the committees. Hoshi, you're in charge of daily tiger horoscope readings-"
"That's not a thing," Woozi interjected.
"It is now. Joshua, you're documenting everything. Mingyu and Minghao, you're on style watch - make sure he doesn't wear hockey jerseys on dates."
"Bold of you to assume he owns other clothes," Mingyu muttered.
"Seungkwan, you're our drama department-"
"I was born ready!"
"Wonwoo, you're researching dating apps. Vernon and Jun, you're our social media experts. Dino... just try to survive practice for now."
"What about me?" DK raised his hand.
"You and Woozi are our emergency extraction team. If any date goes wrong, you pull him out with a fake emergency."
"Can the emergency be my dying leg muscles?" Dino asked from the floor.
"Speaking of," Jun suddenly pointed at the glass. "Incoming!"
They scattered like startled cats just as Seungcheol opened the door, looking suspiciously at his suddenly innocent-looking teammates.
"Break's over. Let's run that play again."
The collective internal screaming was audible.
"We start tonight," Jeonghan whispered as they lined up. "For our legs."
"For our legs," twelve voices whispered back.
-
6:00 PM - Team Lounge Preparation
"Places everyone!" Jeonghan's voice commanded through the earpieces he'd borrowed (stolen) from the broadcasting team. "Hoshi, status on the PowerPoint?"
"Forty-seven slides of pure tiger-themed conviction!"Â
"It was supposed to be five slides," Woozi muttered, sitting at the piano he'd somehow smuggled in. "Also, why am I composing 'The Ballad of Single Seungcheol' again?"
"Emotional impact," Seungkwan explained, practicing his dramatic slides across the floor. "We need background music for my monologue about dying alone."
"No one's dying alone," Joshua sighed, reviewing his crisis management notebook:
- Plan A: Direct confrontation
- Plan B: Emotional manipulation
- Plan C: Vernon's interpretive dance
- Plan Z: Release the embarrassing photos
Meanwhile, Mingyu and Minghao were strategically placing furniture.
"The chair needs to be exactly 45 degrees under the spotlight," Minghao insisted.
"We don't have a spotlight," Mingyu pointed out.
"VERNON!"
"On it!" Vernon appeared with a desk lamp and determination.
At the same time - Y/N's Clinic Break Room
"You need to date," Krissa, Y/N's coworker, declared while stealing her lunch. "When was the last time you went out?"
"I go out!" Y/N protested, thinking about her weekly grocery runs.
"The old lady with the hip replacement asking you to dinner with her grandson doesn't count."
"Mrs. Kim is sweet..."
"She's also convinced her grandson is the next president. He collects rubber ducks, Y/N. Rubber. Ducks."
6:30 PM - The Ambush Begins
Seungcheol was having a good day. He'd organized new training menus (color-coded by intensity), named his newest hockey stick ("Perseverance"), and only spent three hours analyzing game footage.
The first sign something was wrong: the lounge lights were off.
The second sign: Mingyu trying (failing) to hide his 6'2" frame behind a plant.
"What-"
"HYUNG!" Seungkwan's voice echoed dramatically. "Do you know what day it is?"
"...Thursday?"
"IT'S YOUR INTERVENTION!"
The lights flashed on. Seungcheol found himself surrounded by his teammates, each wearing matching black hoodies with "Code Red: The Captain NEEDS a GIRLFRIEND" printed in glittering letters.
"Are those... rhinestones?"
"Focus!" Jeonghan stepped forward. "Seungcheol-ah, we need to talk about your relationship with hockey."
"My perfectly normal-"
"YOU TRIED TO INSTALL AN ICE RINK IN YOUR APARTMENT!" DK interrupted.
"It was a small one-"
"Exhibit A!" Hoshi clicked to his first slide, featuring a pie chart of Seungcheol's daily activities:
- 60% Hockey
- 30% Thinking about hockey
- 9% Basic human needs
- 1% Everything else
"That's... not accurate?"
"Exhibit B!" Another slide: a photo series titled 'The Evolution of Our Captain's Dating Life' showing:
- 2019: Attempted to explain offside rules on first date
- 2020: Brought hockey stick to coffee shop
- 2021: Asked team manager for practice schedules during blind date
- 2022: "Is being married to hockey valid?"
Meanwhile - Y/N's Evening Commute
"Just download the app," Krissa had insisted, practically forcing Y/N's thumb onto the install button. "Trust the algorithm!"
Now, squished between a businessman and a grandmother on the subway, Y/N found herself mindlessly scrolling through profiles.
Too posed. Too filtered. Too... is that guy posing with a fish?
Then she saw it.
'Cheol, 26'
The first photo was clearly candid - a genuine smile, caught mid-laugh. Someone had badly edited out what looked like hockey gear in the background, leaving obvious white spaces.
The second photo: attempting to look serious but his eyes gave away suppressed laughter. More suspicious white spaces around him.
The third: clearly taken without his knowledge, feeding a stray cat.
Bio: "Just a guy who likes ice sports and dad jokes. My friends made me download this. They're currently holding my training menus hostage. Send help."
Y/N found herself smiling. There was something refreshingly honest about him.
Back at the Ambush...
"And THAT'S why penguins mate for life!" Hoshi concluded slide thirty-seven.
"What do penguins have to do with-" Seungcheol started.
"EVERYTHING!" Seungkwan was now lying dramatically across the floor. "Even flightless birds find love, hyung!"
"Woozi-hyung, music!" DK cued.
The opening notes of 'The Ballad of Single Seungcheol' filled the room, accompanied by Vernon's unexpected contemporary dance.
"When did he learn-" Seungcheol tried again.
"STOP DEFLECTING!" Jeonghan commanded. "Mingyu, the phone!"
"For our legs!" Mingyu declared, executing a perfect phone-grabbing maneuver.
"YAH!"
"Jun, Minghao, initiate synchronized intervention dance!"
"We have a dance?!" Minghao looked panicked.
"Improvise!"
- After 15 minutes of improvised dance, they managed to make Seungcheol agree in making a dating app profile: "Bio first," Wonwoo adjusted his glasses, phone in hand. "Interests?"
"Hockey!" Seungcheol offered from his chair, where he was being guarded by Mingyu and Jun.
"NO!" Eleven voices shouted.
"Put 'enjoys sports'," Joshua suggested diplomatically.
"And dad jokes," Jeonghan added. "He needs to warn them early."
"What about: 'Looking for someone to share ice cream with'?" Vernon suggested.
"That's... actually cute?" Woozi sounded surprised.
"Add 'good with kids'!" Hoshi insisted.
"I've never-"
"YOU LITERALLY TUCK US IN AFTER PRACTICE!" Seungkwan interrupted.
Photo Selection Committee:
"No hockey photos," Mingyu declared, scrolling through Seungcheol's gallery.
"That's 98% of my photos-"
"We know," Minghao sighed. "That's the problem."
"Oh! This one!" Dino pointed. "From team dinner!"
"Too many hockey players in frame," Joshua vetoed.
"We could edit them out?" Jun suggested.
"NO-" Seungcheol started.
"Wonwoo, your Photoshop skills!" Jeonghan commanded.
"On it."
"Is that... why is there a white blob where Mingyu was standing?"
"Artistic choice," Wonwoo muttered, concentrated.
Meanwhile - Y/N's Apartment
"You're overthinking," Krissa's voice came through the phone as Y/N stared at Cheol's profile.
"His friends clearly made this profile-"
"That's cute! It means he's not a player."
"But what if-"
"Y/N, I swear, if you don't swipe right-"
"His smile seems genuine..."
"SWIPE. RIGHT. NOW."
Back at the Ambush:
"And done!" Wonwoo announced. "Profile complete."
Seungcheol looked horrified at the final result:
Photos:
Team dinner (now with mysterious white blobs)
Feeding cat (only half-edited hockey stick visible)
Candid laugh (suspiciously cropped)
Bio: "Just a guy who enjoys sports, dad jokes, and ice cream. Good with kids (and teammates). My friends made me download this. They're currently holding my training menus hostage. Send help."
"It's... honest?" Joshua offered.
"Too honest," Seungcheol groaned.
"Now we wait-" Jeonghan started.
ping
Thirteen heads snapped toward the phone.
"Is that..." Dino peered closer.
"A MATCH!" Seungkwan actually collapsed.
"Someone check if he's breathing," Woozi muttered.
Y/N's profile lit up the screen.
Seungcheol felt his ears turn red as he read:
"Physical therapist who loves dogs, rainy days, and helping people recover. Looking for something genuine. Probably swiping through this while drinking coffee."
Her smile was warm, natural. No filters, no posed shots. Just... real.
"She's perfect!" Hoshi declared. "The stars-"
"If you say the stars align one more time-" Woozi threatened.
"But they do!"
"Quick, say something!" Mingyu urged.
"I can do this myself-"
"The last time you messaged someone, you sent hockey statistics," Jun reminded him.
"One time!"
"Three times," Joshua corrected, consulting his notes. "Four if we count the referee explanation."
Seungcheol looked at Y/N's profile again. Something about her eyes seemed kind, understanding. Before his teammates could interfere, he typed:
"Since you're a physical therapist, any advice for teammates who dramatically fall during interventions?"
Across Seoul, Y/N was curled up on her couch when the message came through. She laughed out loud, typing back:
"Depends. Was it a planned fall or genuine distress? In my professional opinion, dramatic interventions require proper falling technique."
In the team lounge:
"She has humor!" Seungkwan had revived just to faint again.
"And medical knowledge for your old joints!" Dino dodged another flying pillow.
"Mission status?" Jeonghan asked formally.
"Phase one..." Joshua consulted his notebook, "surprisingly successful?"
"Now what?" Vernon asked.
"Now," Jeonghan smiled mysteriously, "we begin Phase Two: Operation First Date."
"We have a Phase Two?" Woozi looked concerned.
"We have phases up to Z," Joshua showed his notebook.
"God help us all," Seungcheol muttered, but he was smiling at his phone.
Little did Y/N know that her simple right swipe had initiated not just a potential romance, but had inadvertently involved her in the chaos of thirteen hockey players' most ambitious mission yet.
And somewhere in the lounge, Hoshi was already preparing his "Why Tigers Make Great Wedding Mascots" presentation.
-
âHow To Text While Twelve People Read Over Your Shoulder"
Team Lounge - 10 Minutes Post-Match
"Don't just stare at her message," Mingyu urged, practically draped over Seungcheol's shoulder.
"I'm thinking-"
"That's your problem!" Seungkwan had recovered enough to offer wisdom. "Less thinking, more heart!"
Seungcheol typed: "My teammate's falls are an art form. Years of practice-"
"NO SPORTS REFERENCES!" Twelve voices yelled.
Delete, delete, delete.
"Just be yourself," Joshua advised.
"But not too much yourself," Jeonghan added.
"What does that even mean?" Seungcheol groaned.
Meanwhile - Y/N's Apartment
"He's taking a while to respond," Y/N muttered, watching the typing bubble appear and disappear.
"Maybe he's nervous?" Krissa suggested through the phone.
"Or composing poetry," Y/N joked.
"Or being attacked by friends," Krissa laughed.
If only she knew.
Back at the Lounge:
"Okay, how about..." Seungcheol tried again.
"You have to match her energy!" Hoshi was now doing his tiger-energy dance.
"Stop pressuring him," Wonwoo adjusted his glasses. "Statistically, overthinking first messages leads to-"
"No statistics!" Jun covered his ears.
Finally, Seungcheol managed to type:
"Would you believe me if I said one teammate has a dedicated falling technique for every emotional situation? We're currently at 'betrayed by captain who won't date' level dramatics."
Send.
"OH MY GOD HE SENT IT-" Seungkwan started hyperventilating.
"Quick, everyone act natural!" DK suggested, immediately striking the most unnatural pose possible.
Y/N's response came quickly:
"đ As a professional, I'd love to analyze these techniques. For medical purposes, of course. Does he take appointments?"
The lounge erupted:
"She's funny!" from Vernon.
"She used an emoji!" Dino noted.
"Medical purposes," Woozi smirked.
"RESPOND FASTER!" Mingyu shook Seungcheol.
Meanwhile, in another corner, Operation Phase Two was already underway:
"Gather round," Jeonghan whispered to his secret subcommittee. "We need to prepare for every possible first date scenario."
Joshua pulled out a new notebook labeled "First Date Contingency Plans A-Z":
Plan A: Coffee Shop
- Pros: Casual, easy escape
- Cons: Might talk about hockey
- Solution: Remove all sports channels from cafĂŠ TVs
Plan B: Dog CafĂŠ
- Pros: Cute animals, natural conversation
- Cons: Seungcheol might be allergic
- Note: Test for allergies immediately
Plan C: Restaurant
- Pros: Traditional, romantic
- Cons: Too much pressure
- Solution: Have team occupy all surrounding tables
"Should we include Plan T for Tiger Zoo?" Hoshi asked hopefully.
"No."
Back to the main conversation:
Seungcheol: "He's currently booked solid with interventions, but I hear he's willing to demonstrate for medical professionals đ"
Y/N: "How generous! Though I should warn you, my professional opinion might include prescribing more social interactions for certain hockey-focused captains đ"
The lounge went silent.
"Did she just..." Vernon started.
"She figured out..." Mingyu gasped.
"A WOMAN OF INTELLIGENCE!" Seungkwan declared.
Seungcheol felt his ears redden but found himself smiling as he typed:
"Caught me. Though in my defense, my team's intervention included a PowerPoint about why penguins finding love means I should too."
Y/N's Apartment:
She was grinning at her phone, ignoring Krissa's demands for updates. There was something endearing about this clearly hockey-obsessed captain and his concerned teammates.
Y/N: "Penguins are quite romantic. Though I hope your team knows humans have slightly different courtship rituals. Slightly."
Team Lounge:
"Is this... flirting?" Dino whispered in awe.
"Taking notes," Joshua muttered, scribbling furiously.
"We should give them space," Woozi suggested sensibly.
Nobody moved.
"I meant that as a command," Woozi glared.
Still nobody moved.
Seungcheol, somehow managing to type despite twelve people breathing down his neck:
"Would you be interested in discussing these human courtship rituals over coffee? I promise no PowerPoints. Can't guarantee no dramatic teammates though."
The lounge held its breath.
Y/N: "I'd like that! Fair warning though - I might assess your teammate's falling technique from afar. Professional curiosity đ"
"SHE SAID YES!"Â
Chaos erupted:
- Seungkwan fainted (again)
- Hoshi began his victory tiger dance
- Vernon started his congratulatory rap
- Woozi contemplated early retirement
- Jeonghan's eyes gleamed with Phase Two possibilities
"Operation First Date begins now," Joshua announced formally.
"Can I just plan my own date?" Seungcheol tried.
The look of pity he received from twelve pairs of eyes was answer enough.
- "Operation First Date (Or Twelve Ways to Overcomplicate Coffee)"
The Pre-Date Strategy Meeting - 3 Days Before
"ATTENTION!" Jeonghan stood at a whiteboard, pointer in hand. The team lounge had been transformed into a tactical command center, complete with:
- Floor plans of every coffee shop in a 5-mile radius
- Weather forecasts for the next week
- A mysterious PowerPoint titled "Tiger Luck in Romance"
- Seungkwan's "Emergency Scenarios" binder
- Joshua's "Date Exit Strategies A-Z"
Seungcheol sat in the corner, wondering where it all went wrong.
"First," Jeonghan began, "location analysis."
Wonwoo stepped forward, pushing up his glasses:
"I've compiled data on 47 potential coffee shops based on:
- Ambient lighting
- Background music volume
- Table spacing for optimal conversation
- Distance from hockey-related establishments
- Escape route availability"
"It's just coffee," Seungcheol muttered.
"JUST COFFEE?!" Seungkwan clutched his chest. "This is your FUTURE!"
"Moving on," Jeonghan continued. "Mingyu, wardrobe report."
Mingyu unveiled a clothing rack that definitely wasn't in the lounge this morning.
"I've prepared three categories:
1. 'Casual but Make It Romantic'
2. 'Yes I'm a Hockey Captain but I Read Books Too'
3. 'Trust Me I Have Other Hobbies'"
"Are those my clothes?" Seungcheol squinted.
"No, these are better," Minghao replied, sorting through fabrics. "Your clothes all say 'I sleep in hockey gear.'"
Meanwhile - Y/N's Preparation
"Just wear something comfortable," Krissa suggested, watching Y/N tear through her closet.
"But what kind of comfortable? Coffee comfortable? First date comfortable? Meeting-a-hockey-captain comfortable?"
"Is that last one a category?"
"I'm making it one!"
Back at Strategy HQ:
"Conversation topics!" Joshua read from his notebook.
DK raised his hand. "What about-"
"No hockey," everyone chorused.
"But-"
"NO. HOCKEY."
Hoshi bounced up. "The stars say-"
"No horoscopes," Woozi interrupted.
"But the tigers-"
"Especially no tiger horoscopes."
Vernon, surprisingly practical: "Why don't you just... talk normally?"
The room fell silent. Everyone looked at Vernon like he'd suggested playing hockey blindfolded.
"Talk... normally?" Jeonghan tested the words.
"Like... without a script?" Jun looked concerned.
"Absolutely not," Seungkwan declared. "We need contingency plans!"
The Emergency Scenarios Binder appeared:
- Scenario 1: Awkward Silence
Solution: Pre-planted conversation cards under sugar packets
- Scenario 2: Hockey Mention
  Solution: DK's emergency dance distraction
- Scenario 3: Rain
Solution: Strategic umbrella placement by Jun
- Scenario 4: She Recognizes Surveillance Team
Solution: Mingyu's "We're Filming a Documentary" cover story
"Surveillance team?!" Seungcheol stood up.
"Sit down," Jeonghan commanded. "We're not done with the scenarios."
"There's more?!"
"There's always more," Joshua said ominously, flipping to his notebook's section labeled 'Crisis Management'.
Dino raised his hand. "What about our positions?"
"Ah yes," Jeonghan pulled down a blueprint. "Operation Coffee Shop Placement":
- Wonwoo & Mingyu: Window seats, pretending to study
- Joshua & Jeonghan: Counter, monitoring drink orders
- Seungkwan & Vernon: Outside cafĂŠ, "casual" pedestrians
- Jun & Minghao: Corner table, fake art students
- Hoshi: Emergency tiger energy provider
- Woozi: Getaway driver
- DK & Dino: Backup dancers if needed
"Getaway driver?!" Seungcheol looked alarmed.
"You never know," Woozi shrugged.
"And I'll be monitoring everyone's positions through these," Hoshi proudly held up twelve earpieces.
"Absolutely not," Seungcheol stood again.
"You're right," Jeonghan nodded. "We need color-coded earpieces."
The Day Before - Final Preparations:
Text from Y/N: "Looking forward to tomorrow! Any preference for which cafĂŠ?"
The team lounge exploded into action:
- Wonwoo consulting his cafĂŠ spreadsheets
- Mingyu checking lighting angles
- Joshua reviewing escape routes
- Seungkwan practicing his "casual pedestrian" walk
- Hoshi doing good luck tiger dances
Seungcheol, somehow maintaining sanity: "How about Stone Street CafĂŠ at 2?"
"THAT WASN'T ON THE APPROVED LIST!" Seungkwan screeched.
"Perfect timing and place!" Y/N replied.
"She's perfect," Hoshi whispered. "The tigers were right."
"The tigers weren't-" Woozi started, then gave up.
"Tomorrow then," Jeonghan announced dramatically, "Operation First Date begins."
"Can't wait! đ" Y/N texted, blissfully unaware of the twelve-man tactical team she'd inadvertently invited to coffee.
- "Operation First Date (Or How Twelve Hockey Players Became Drama Addicts)"
D-Day: Stone Street CafĂŠ
1:30 PM - Initial Positions
"Everyone remember their roles?" Jeonghan whispered into the earpiece.
"We could just... not do this," Woozi suggested from the getaway car.
"COMMITMENT!" Seungkwan adjusted his "casual pedestrian" beret.
1:45 PM - Target Sighting
"Eagle has landed," Vernon reported, watching Seungcheol approach. "He's... wait."
"Report!" Jeonghan demanded.
"He looks... good?"
Everyone peered through various windows and hiding spots. Their captain had somehow:
- Styled his hair naturally
- Worn the outfit they approved
- Arrived early
- Wasn't carrying any hockey equipment
"Did we enter an alternate universe?" Minghao whispered.
1:55 PM - Second Target
"Y/N approaching from the east," Mingyu reported from his "study" table. "She's..."
"She's?" Eleven voices asked.
"Wow."
Y/N walked up to the cafĂŠ, a simple sundress and genuine smile making their captain visibly malfunction.
"Oh no, he's frozen," Jun panicked.
"Deploy emergency-" Seungkwan started.
But then...
2:00 PM - The Shift
Seungcheol smiled - not his camera smile, not his captain smile, but something softer. He opened the door for her, and...
"Did you see that?" Joshua whispered.
"The way they both laughed at the same time?" Jeonghan was already invested.
"Shhh!" Dino hushed. "We can't hear!"
Inside the cafĂŠ:
"I honestly wasn't sure if you'd come alone," Y/N grinned, settling into her seat.
"What makes you think I did?" Seungcheol raised an eyebrow.
Y/N casually glanced around, spotting:
- Two very tall men aggressively pretending to study
- A pair of "art students" who hadn't touched their sketchbooks
- A beret-wearing individual walking past the window for the fifth time
"Just a hunch," she smiled.
In various hiding spots:
"She knows!" Vernon whispered.
"But she's not running," Wonwoo observed.
"Guys," Mingyu suddenly said, "look."
They watched as Seungcheol and Y/N fell into easy conversation. No emergency cards needed. No tiger horoscopes required. Just... natural.
2:30 PM - The Evolution
"Should we deploy conversation starter #7?" Seungkwan asked.
"Wait..." Jeonghan held up his hand, watching.
Inside:
"So," Y/N leaned forward, "tell me about hockey."
Twelve hearts stopped.
But instead of launching into statistics, Seungcheol said, "Only if you tell me about what made you choose physical therapy."
She lit up, and suddenly they were sharing stories, laughing, completely lost in their own world.
The Surveillance Team:
"Are we... watching a drama?" DK whispered.
"Quick, someone film this!" Hoshi was emotional.
"Already on it," Joshua had his phone out.
3:00 PM - The Realization
One by one, the earpieces went silent. The elaborate plans forgotten. Twelve hockey players found themselves completely invested in watching their captain just... be happy.
"They're perfect together," Seungkwan sniffled.
"The way she makes him laugh..." Dino observed.
"The way he actually listens..." Mingyu added.
"No one mention hockey once..." Woozi noted, now inside with popcorn(?).
4:00 PM - Mission Evolution
As Seungcheol and Y/N prepared to leave, plans for a second date already made, the team had completely abandoned their positions in favor of:
- Seungkwan and DK writing a musical about them
- Hoshi planning their wedding
- Joshua documenting everything for future generations
- Jeonghan already plotting "Operation Second Date"
- Mingyu and Vernon designing couple merchandise
- Minghao and Jun choreographing a congratulatory dance
- Wonwoo calculating their compatibility (98.7%)
- Dino learning wedding songs
- Woozi pretending he wasn't composing a love song
Outside the CafĂŠ:
"Your friends are really invested," Y/N commented, watching various heads duck behind plants.
"I'm sorry about them," Seungcheol rubbed his neck.
"Don't be. It's sweet. Though..." she grinned, "they might want to work on their stealth skills. I don't think art students usually cry over other people's coffee dates."
They both looked at Seungkwan, who was openly weeping into his beret.
"Second date?" Seungcheol asked hopefully.
"Definitely. Maybe somewhere with less... audience?"
"IMPOSSIBLE!" came a chorus of whispers from various plants.
Later - Team Lounge:
"Mission status?" Jeonghan asked formally.
"Complete success," Joshua reported, still emotional.
"Better than success," Seungkwan declared. "It's true love!"
"It's one date," Woozi reminded them.
"But did you see how they LOOKED at each other?!" Hoshi was already preparing his "Why Tigers Make Perfect Ring Bearers" presentation.
"So..." Vernon asked what everyone was thinking, "Operation Second Date?"
Seungcheol, walking in: "No."
"But-"
"Absolutely not."
"We'll be subtle!" Mingyu promised.
"You cried into a textbook."
"Those were subtle tears!"
Y/N's Apartment:
"How was it?" Krissa demanded.
Y/N smiled, thinking of gentle eyes and genuine laughs, of twelve not-so-hidden supporters and one perfect afternoon.
"It was... unexpected. In the best way."
Her phone buzzed:
Seungcheol: "I apologize for my team. They're... enthusiastic."
Y/N: "They care about you. It's cute. Though I did wonder why one kept making tiger poses."
Seungcheol: "That's just Hoshi. Wait until you meet him properly."
Y/N: "Looking forward to it đ"
Team Lounge:
"She said she's looking forward to meeting us!" Seungkwan announced to the group chat.
"FAMILY DINNER!" twelve voices decided.
"No," Seungcheol texted back.
"Too late," Jeonghan was already planning.
"Operation Family Dinner begins now!" Joshua declared.
"We're not calling it-" Woozi started.
"OPERATION FAMILY DINNER!" everyone chorused.
Seungcheol sighed, but he was smiling. Maybe their chaos had led to something perfect after all.
-
"The One Where Someone Actually Likes Hockey (And Him)"
Operation Family Dinner Prep - Team Lounge
"Ground rules," Jeonghan addressed the team. "No embarrassing stories-"
"There goes my PowerPoint," Seungkwan sighed.
"No tiger facts-"
"But-" Hoshi started.
"NO tiger facts, and absolutely no-"
"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED BANNER!" Mingyu and Vernon burst in, proudly displaying a giant banner reading "THANK YOU FOR LIKING OUR CAPTAIN"
"Take it down," Seungcheol groaned.
"But we used glitter!" Vernon protested.
Meanwhile - Y/N's Apartment
"Twelve hockey players," Krissa repeated. "You're having dinner with twelve hockey players."
"Plus Seungcheol," Y/N added, trying on her fifth outfit.
"The same twelve who stalked your coffee date?"
"They weren't stalking! They were... enthusiastically supporting."
The Dinner - 7 PM
Y/N arrived at the team's favorite restaurant to find:
- The banner (they didn't take it down)
- Seungkwan practicing his welcome speech
- Hoshi's "subtle" tiger decorations
- Twelve very excited hockey players
- One very apologetic Seungcheol
"I'm so sorry," he whispered. "We can leave-"
"Are you kidding? This is adorable!"
The team collectively melted.
Dinner was in full swing when Seungcheol started explaining a particularly complex play. The twelve teammates watched in fascination, each processing this unprecedented scene differently:
Jeonghan's Corner: "I've seen him scare away five dates with hockey talk," he whispered to Joshua. "Six," Joshua corrected, still filming. "Remember the coffee shop girl who ran away during his penalty explanation?" "But look at Y/N..." They watched as she drew actual play diagrams on napkins. "Are we sure she's real?"
Hoshi & DK's Observation: "The way she gets excited when he gets excited," DK clutched his chest. "It's like watching a drama!" Hoshi wiped a tear. "Better than your tiger documentaries?" "Nothing's better than- OH MY GOD SHE JUST ASKED ABOUT GAME STRATEGIES!"
Mingyu to Wonwoo: "Remember when he tried explaining hockey to my sister?" "She blocked his number," Wonwoo nodded. "But Y/N just asked him to explain MORE." "Statistically impossible but... happening right in front of us."
Minghao noticed something: "Look at his hands," he whispered to Jun. "What about them?" "They're not doing the nervous thing. He's just... comfortable." Jun sniffled: "Our captain's growing up!"
Woozi's Mental Notes:
First date to survive hockey talk â
Actually understands offside rules â
Makes Seungcheol laugh naturally â
Might need to compose a love song after all
Seungkwan's Live Commentary to Vernon: "Did you see that? She just made a hockey joke!" "And he actually laughed-" "NOT THE POLITE LAUGH, VERNON. THE REAL ONE!" "Should you be taking notes this intensely?" "This is historical documentation!"
Dino, watching it all unfold: "Hyung looks... different." "Happy," everyone replied simultaneously.
The turning point came when Y/N casually mentioned:
"Oh, that reminds me of your game last month - the one where you adjusted the defensive formation mid-play? That was brilliant."
Seungcheol froze mid-explanation. "You... watched our old games?"
Y/N blushed slightly. "I might have done some research? I wanted to understand what you love about it. Plus," she grinned, "watching you lead your team is pretty attractive."
Several things happened at once:
Seungkwan choked on air
Jeonghan dropped his phone
Joshua caught it without looking (still filming)
Hoshi started doing tiny victory tiger paws
Mingyu and Minghao high-fived
Wonwoo's glasses fogged up
DK clutched Jun in emotional support
Vernon patted a crying Seungkwan
Woozi pretended he wasn't writing lyrics
Dino watched his hyungs lose their collective minds
But most importantly: Seungcheol looked at Y/N like she had just scored the winning goal in the championship game.
Later, during dessert:
"I have a confession," Y/N admitted to the table. "I might have noticed you all at the coffee shop."
"We were subtle!" Seungkwan protested.
"You cried into a plant."
"Those were subtle tears!"
"And the one doing tiger poses by the window..."
"That was for good luck!" Hoshi defended.
"And the two tall ones pretending to study..."
Mingyu and Wonwoo suddenly found the ceiling fascinating.
"...was actually really sweet. He's lucky to have people who care so much."
The team melted all over again.
"She understands us too," Jeonghan whispered reverently.
"ONE OF US!" Seungkwan declared.
"We're keeping her," Hoshi announced.
"That's not how it works-" Woozi started.
"Too late! Already adopted!" DK confirmed.
Y/N laughed, fitting perfectly into their chaos while her hand found Seungcheol's under the table.
Later that night, Team Group Chat (Minus Seungcheol):
Seungkwan: EMERGENCY MEETING Joshua: It's midnight Seungkwan: LOVE DOESN'T SLEEP Jeonghan: Operation Wedding Planning begins Woozi: It's been ONE dinner Hoshi: BUT DID YOU SEE THEM?! Mingyu: They're perfect 𼺠Vernon: The way she understood hockey... DK: The way he smiled... Jun: The way they looked at each other... Minghao: The way they just fit... Dino: So... Operation Wedding Planning? Wonwoo: sends spreadsheetÂ
Meanwhile, Seungcheol walking Y/N home:
"I'm sorry about them," he started.
"Don't be. They're wonderful. Chaotic, but wonderful."
"Like a hurricane of love," he laughed.
"With a tiger twist," she added.
He looked at her then, really looked at her, and thought maybe his team's crazy plans weren't so crazy after all.
- Something was definitely different about their captain. The first signs were subtle - arriving five minutes late to practice (unheard of), constant phone checking (suspicious), and most alarmingly, humming while setting up drills (miraculous). The team huddled at the corner of the rink, watching Seungcheol with a mixture of awe and disbelief as he smiled at his phone for the fifth time in ten minutes.
"I think we broke him," Seungkwan whispered, clutching Vernon's arm. "Our plan worked too well."
Two months into dating Y/N, and their strict, hockey-obsessed captain had transformed into someone who said things like "the ice understands love" with complete seriousness. The man who once made them repeat a play 47 times now ended practice early because "the lighting at the coffee shop is perfect at 4 PM."
The real shock came during their morning practice. Seungcheol, still typing on his phone with a soft smile, casually announced, "No Sunday practice this week." The rink fell silent. Twelve pairs of eyes stared at their captain as if he'd just declared he was quitting hockey to become a tiger trainer (much to Hoshi's disappointment, he wasn't).
"Why?" Jeonghan dared to ask, though they all knew the answer. Their captain's ears turned that telling shade of red as he mumbled something about Y/N planning something special.
"WHIPPED!" Seungkwan coughed not-so-subtly, earning a half-hearted glare from their leader. The fact that he didn't assign extra laps for the comment only proved the point.
Meanwhile, across town at the physical therapy clinic, Y/N was having a similar effect on her workplace. Her colleagues had grown used to her sudden laughs at hockey memes ("He explains the rules so passionately!"), her lunch breaks extending whenever a certain captain dropped by ("Just five more minutes, he's explaining a new play"), and the way she lit up every time her phone buzzed.
"You actually enjoy his hockey talks," Krissa observed with amazement during their break. "Like, genuinely enjoy them."
Y/N smiled, remembering how Seungcheol's eyes sparkled when she asked about his game strategies. "He's cute when he's excited about it. Besides," she added, checking her phone where Seungcheol had sent a detailed analysis of their morning practice, complete with heart emojis, "his passion is attractive."
Back at the rink, the team was experiencing the full effects of their captain's transformation. Team meetings that once ran for hours now ended with "Any questions? No? Great, I have a date." Their notorious extended cool-downs had shortened considerably because "Y/N found this great lunch spot."
"Remember when he made us sleep at the rink before big games?" Jun whispered to Minghao during water break, watching their captain practically skip while texting.
"Now he leaves early because 'Y/N might get cold waiting,'" Minghao mimicked, though his smile was fond.
The team often found themselves "accidentally" having lunch near Y/N's clinic, watching their captain transform from fierce hockey leader to soft boyfriend in seconds. He'd arrive with her favorite coffee and snacks, his whole demeanor changing at the sight of her smile.
"It's actually kind of beautiful," Seungkwan sniffled, watching through the cafĂŠ window as Seungcheol forgot about his beloved hockey for a full minute, just staring at Y/N like she hung the stars.
"Disgusting," Woozi corrected, but he was already composing what he'd never admit was a love song.
"Remember our mission?" Jeonghan mused, watching their captain laugh at something Y/N said. "Get Seungcheol a girlfriend because we're afraid he's gonna be more strict with practice?"
"Mission accomplished?" Joshua suggested, still filming everything for their future wedding video.
"Better than accomplished," Mingyu grinned, pointing at their captain who was now excitedly explaining a play with sugar packets while Y/N watched with genuine interest. "We got him a girlfriend who actually likes hockey."
"And him," Vernon added importantly.
"The tigers blessed us," Hoshi declared solemnly.
For once, no one argued with the tiger agenda. They were too busy watching their captain being happy, finally having found someone who loved both his passion and him, hockey statistics and all.
- It became their thing - late evening walks after his practice and her clinic hours, usually ending up at the quiet cafĂŠ near the rink. Tonight, Seungcheol watched as Y/N drew little stick figures on a napkin, seriously explaining how his last play could be modified. The cafĂŠ owner, used to their presence, had long stopped asking if they wanted refills, just quietly placing fresh cups of coffee at their table.
"See, if you shift this position slightly," Y/N pointed with her pen, completely focused, "it might give you better coverage on the left side." She looked up to find him staring at her with that soft expression he seemed to reserve just for these moments. "What?"
"Nothing," he smiled, reaching across to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "Just... do you know you scrunch your nose when you're really focused on explaining something?"
"Says the one who gets excited sparkles in his eyes when talking about new practice drills," she teased back, catching his hand and intertwining their fingers.
These quiet moments were theirs, away from twelve enthusiastic supporters (who they both knew were probably somewhere nearby, with Seungkwan likely crying into Joshua's shoulder about 'true love'). Here, they could just be Seungcheol and Y/N - not the hockey captain and the physical therapist, just two people who found each other through a chaotic intervention and some badly edited dating app photos.
"I never thanked them properly," Y/N mused, playing with his fingers.
"The team? Pretty sure they consider you letting Hoshi explain tiger love compatibility at dinner last week as thanks enough."
She laughed, remembering how seriously Hoshi had presented his PowerPoint while the others tried (failed) to stop him. "Not just for that. For caring about you enough to stage that whole intervention. For being so invested in your happiness that they turned into part-time spies."
"Terrible spies," Seungcheol corrected, thinking of Mingyu's failed attempts at stealth despite his height, and Seungkwan's dramatic crying behind plants. "But yeah, they're... special."
"Your family," she smiled softly.
"Our family now," he corrected, then blushed at his own boldness. "I mean, if you want- they've kind of already adopted you- but no pressure-"
She stopped his rambling with a gentle squeeze of his hand. "I'd love that. Though I should warn you, I might enable your hockey obsession more than they'd like."
"You mean you'll actually listen to my game analysis?"
"I already do that."
"And watch practice sometimes?"
"Already planning to."
"And not run away when I name my hockey sticks?"
"As long as you don't name them all after me," she teased.
His ears turned red. "About that..."
"Cheol! How many?"
"Just the new one! And maybe the backup one. And possibly the special game day one..."
Her laughter filled the cafĂŠ, and Seungcheol thought about how perfectly she fit into his life - into their lives. How she understood not just his passion for hockey, but also his need to take care of twelve chaotic teammates. How she'd become part of their family so naturally, like she was always meant to be there.
"Hey," he said softly, making her look up from where she was still drawing play diagrams. "I love you."
It wasn't the first time he'd said it, but it still made her heart skip just like it did that first time (when he blurted it out after she attended his game and actually understood why a particular play was brilliant).
"I love you too," she smiled, "hockey obsession and all."
"And the twelve-man emotional support team that comes with it?"
"Especially them. Though..." she glanced at the window where several suspicious plants seemed to have gathered, "they might need some work on their stealth skills."
Outside, they could faintly hear Seungkwan's emotional "They're so perfect!" followed by multiple shushes and what sounded like Woozi dragging him away.
Seungcheol just smiled, squeezing her hand. Let them watch. Let them see that sometimes the craziest plans work out perfectly. Let them witness that yes, someone could love both hockey and him, statistics and all.
And if their next date happened to be watching game footage while Y/N pointed out defensive patterns and Seungcheol fell more in love with every observation, well... that was just their kind of perfect.
[In the group chat later that night] Seungkwan: THEY'RE SO IN LOVE đ Jeonghan: Mission Accomplished â Hoshi: The tigers blessed this union đŻ Woozi: Stop watching them on dates Joshua: But the wedding video... DK: They're literally perfect??? Mingyu: Hyung named THREE sticks after her Vernon: Whipped culture Jun: Worth all the spy training Minghao: We did that Wonwoo: Statistically impossible but real Dino: So... Mission Possible: Wedding? All: MISSION POSSIBLE: WEDDING!

Because I Missed You
CHARACTERS: James Potter x Reader Summary: An unexpected reunion with your old friends from Hogwarts causes your once buried feelings for the spectacled boy to resurface unexpectedly. a/n: bye this is my first time writing this long and for James Potter no less BUT WHO WOULDNT AM I RIGHT. anyway i hope you guys enjoy! likes, comments, feedbacks and reblogs are highly appreciated !! wc: 2.3k
âItâs the same old feeling back again, itâs the one they had way back when they were too young to know when love is real.â
âThat would be $23.45.â
âHold on,â I open my wallet to take the exact amount out and hand it over to the cashier, making sure that nothing falls, âHere you go.â
âI received the exact amount.â The cashier says, counting how much I gave before putting it in the register and handing over my receipt, âCome again.â
âThank you.â I take the paper bag containing my groceries, trying to hide how I was slightly struggling with carrying it, my arm strength was something that I was never proud of, makes me glad that I use a wand for self-defense instead of my fists when need be.
I step out of the grocery store and start my journey back to the small apartment I know a few blocks away. It's been a few years since I graduated from Hogwarts, and a few months since I decided to live amongst the muggles. After that incident during 7th year, I thought it was in my best interest to distance myself from anyone who knows me or could possibly recognize me. Though I still keep in touch with some of them, namely Lily Evans, and to be fair, she's really the only I still talk to that has any relation to the wizarding world.
I make it halfway to my apartment when I spot the cafe I frequent during my free time. I need a break, I think to myself as I feel the dull ache in my arms starting to form from carrying my grocery bags. I push the cafe doors open, the smell of coffee and pastries immediately greeting me, as well as the sound of customers talking. My eyes scan the menu, trying to find something I have yet to order, before settling on the Jasmine tea and blueberry muffin. Turns out I'm not in the mood to try something new today.
I go to stand in line behind a group of men who seem to be my age, they're a bit loud if you ask me. Okay, scratch that, they're loud. A guy with the black hair is laughing loudly, and the brunette is pushing him by the shoulder, and the last guy is just looking away. I sigh, looking to the side, trying not to pay attention to them. Just order, pay, wait for it, eat, and then go ho-
âY/n?â
What. I look back at the front to see who called me, the black haired guy now facing me, I quickly glance at his whole being before focusing on his face. There's no mistaking it, even after all these years, how can I forget him?
âSirius?â I ask, eyes wide in shock, I didn't expect to see him here. What was he doing here? Wait, if he's here, then the other two are-
âProngs, Moony, I told you it's y/n!â Sirius taps both of them on the shoulder with a grin on his face, they both turn around with shocked faces mirroring mine. âItâs so good to see you again, y/n! It's been a while hasn't it?âÂ
I nod with an unsure smile on my face, âYeah, it has.â I look over them one by one, to see what had changed since the last time I saw them, which was at least three or four years ago now. Remus, who's smiling at me, and Sirius both hadn't changed much, except for the fact that Siriusâ hair is much longer and Remus sporting some scars that weren't there the last time I saw him.
And James⌠I turn to James and see him wearing the same glasses he wore back then, and the same boyish grin he gave everyone he would come across. His face had a shocked expression on before our eyes met, it turned into one with an awkward smile as he tried to mask whatever he was feeling at the moment. Disgust and the urge to leave as quickly as possible I assume.Â
He opens his mouth to say something when the girl at the counter calls out the next customer, making him turn around along with Remus and Sirius, to give their orders. I stare at their backs, their voices mixing into the background, who would've thought I would run into them here out of all places?Â
I focus my attention on them as they finish ordering with James paying and leaving to find a seat first, Sirius and Remus face me with hopeful smiles on their faces. âAre you busy? We were hoping we could catch up for a bit, who knows when we would see each other after this?â Remus asks, nodding his head to the direction where James went, eager to hear my answer.Â
âŚThat shouldn't be too bad right? Just a quick catch up then we'll be in our separate ways after this. I nod at them, their smiles growing as they leave to follow James. I step forward and dictate my order while reaching for my wallet, the girl behind the register stops me as I hand over the amount needed.Â
âOh, no need to pay, one of the guys before you offered to pay for whatever you would order.â I furrow my eyebrows before thanking her and walking away to where the boys were seated. âYou didn't need to pay for me.â I say as I approached their table, James looks up from their conversation and makes eye contact.
âI know, but I wanted to.â He says smiling, not breaking eye contact, as if daring me to go against him. I stayed silent and stared at him for a few seconds, before saying thanks and sat down at the unoccupied seat. Which was, unfortunately, next to James. The table goes quiet, a somewhat awkward silence falling on us. I busy myself by playing with my fingers under the table and staring at the pattern of the table, when Sirius speaks up.
âSo⌠how have you been y/n? No one has really heard from you since we graduated a few years back.â I look up and see all of them staring at me, the sight taking me back to Hogwarts, where they would be looking at me while listening to me rambling about my day. The only difference was we had grown older, our faces slowly losing our teenage features, being replaced with signs of aging.
I tap my fingers on the tabletop, following the rhythm of the music played by the cafe, wondering where and what to start with. I take a deep breath and open my mouth, deciding to say whatever I think about first.
âIâve been doing pretty well, you know, with adjusting to living amongst the muggles and living life the way they do.â Smiling, I waited for them to answer after I asked the same question. Sirius says heâs been the lead singer for one of the muggle bands he joined, and that the band had a gig nearby. That explains why they were here in the first place, what were the chances that they would be at this particular cafe out of the numerous other ones that are spread around this town?Â
Remus talks about how he became a professor at Hogwarts for Defense Against the Dark Arts, and shared how he would see Severus Snape from time to time and exchange glaring glances at one another. Our conversation was interrupted by our orders getting called to be picked up at the counter. I was about to stand up when a hand was placed on my shoulder, stopping me in place, his hand searing.Â
âIâll get it.âÂ
He said, smiling at me as he stood up, before walking off. The warmth from his hand had gone cold too quickly, taking it with him, it had only been a few seconds but I was starting to miss it-Â
Stop that. Stop that right now.Â
My eyes widened as I realized the words that had gone through my mind, that was a highly inappropriate thought about someone, your ex-boyfriend no less. I shake my head and put my focus back on Sirius and Remus in front of me, about to tell Remus to continue his stories while waiting for James to come back, which shouldnât take him too long. But their eyes were somewhere else, I followed their gaze and saw James talking to a girl our age, well more like the girl was talking to James as he was trying to get our order. We were too far from the counter to hear what it was they were talking about, but judging from how the girl was looking him up and down, I was certain it was flirty remarks disguised as a casual conversation.Â
âOhoho, seems like Prongs has another one trying to get his number, huh Moony? Isnât she, like, the fifth one today?â Sirius laughs loudly as he swings an arm around Remusâ chair, leaning forward to get a better view of what was happening, the latter just sighs and shakes his head. âDonât forget to mention that it's only our second day here, and sheâs the fifteenth one since yesterday. And Iâm pretty sure they all tried to ask him on a date as well.âÂ
âAll tried to ask him on a dateâ? Did he accept any of those offers? I mean, he doesnât have a reason to not give one of them a shot, especially if theyâre extremely attractive like that girl heâs talking to right now. Makes me wonder how many people asked him out the past few years. Wait, is he even seeing someone right now-
ây/n, stop staring at him so hard, you might burn a hole through him.â I snap out of my train of thought as Sirius taps the space in front of my hand, catching my attention. âYou look like how you did when other people asked him out to the yule ball back at hogwarts.â He continued while laughing, my face falling at his comment. Had I been actuallyâŚ?Â
Remus gets startled as he notices the change in my facial expression, he slaps Sirius at his arm while telling him to cut it out, the latter letting out a small yelp at the impact. Remus turns to face me again, slightly hesitating, the next words that came out of his mouth made me grab my things and stand up.Â
âBut⌠Do you still like him, y/n?âÂ
âIâm leaving, it was good to see you guys.â I say as I start heading towards the door, making Remus and Sirius stand up while calling after me.Â
Did I actually still like him, even after having no-contact for years? The question remained in my mind as I walked out of the cafe, missing the way Jamesâ expression turned into one of panic when he spotted me going out. Excusing himself from the (one-sided) conversation the girl was having with him and rushing after me, forgetting about the orders. I hear someone yelling out my name, but I pay it no mind, instead opting to yell back. âI have to go, sorry!âÂ
ây/n, wait a minute!âÂ
A hand wraps around my wrist, the one that wasnât carrying anything but my purse, stopping me from going forwards. I turn back and see James panting a bit, his hair ruffled from running, small beads of sweat starting to drip down the sides of his forehead due to the heat of his jacket. We both stopped in the middle of the walkway, no one speaking, the only sounds that can be heard were from around us and his breaths, his hand still keeping me bound to where I stood.Â
After catching his breath, he stands up straight, making eye contact with me. âWhyâd you leave?â He asks, his eyes searching mine for an answer. I shift and look away, pursing my lips, unsure of what to answer.
âI have things to do.âÂ
âBut your order?â
âI can live without it.âÂ
Silence falls on us again, my answers rendering him unable to keep the conversation going, and getting the answers that would satisfy his curiosity. I was about to pull my wrist out of his grip, and excuse myself to leave, when he spoke up again.
âI missed you.â I look back at him upon hearing his straight-forward statement. He had missed me?Â
â...You did?â He nodded, not missing a beat. Everyday ever since you left he adds. I didn't speak after that,I wasnât about to let him know that I was the same as him, that there was also never a day that I never thought about him.Â
âCan I have your number? So that we can hang out again after this, if you want?âÂ
â...Alright.â I nod and recite my telephone number, watching as he mouthed the numbers to remember, repeating it two more times. Cute.Â
âI can, um, help you with that if you want? It's quite a lot.â He offers to carry some of my groceries, his head gesturing to the paper bags in my other arm. I shake my head, refusing his offer.Â
âItâs fine, I can handle it. But, I really have to go now.â I tell him, turning my body away from him, taking my wrist out of his grip in the process. He wants to say something, but ultimately decides against it as he nods his head in understanding.Â
âOkay⌠can we meet each other at this cafe tomorrow then?â He asks.
âI⌠donât see why not. Sirius and Remus are also going to be there right?âÂ
He shakes his head. âNo, just the two of us tomorrow.â
I furrow my eyebrows at his answer. Donât assume things, y/n, ask him why first before you get ahead of yourself.
âWhy?â
âBecause I missed you.â

SNOW BLANKETED THE Spanish countryside, the soft crunch underfoot a reminder of how rare a white Christmas was here. You wrapped your coat tighter around yourself as you navigated the cobblestone streets of Carlosâs hometown. The twinkling lights strung across the narrow lanes reflected in shop windows and cast a warm glow on the frosty evening. It was beautiful, magical evenâif only you werenât haunted by the possibility of running into him.
You hadnât planned on being here. A spur-of-the-moment invite from a mutual friend to celebrate Christmas had seemed harmless enough. âItâs been years,â youâd told yourself, âSurely things arenât still awkward.â
But they were. They absolutely were.
âY/N?â
You turned at the sound of his voice, your breath catching. There he was, standing under a string of golden lights, his cheeks flushed from the cold and his brown eyes soft and familiar. Carlos Sainz, your ex. The man who had once been your everything. The man who⌠well, the man you gave your heart to last Christmas. And the one who, in the whirlwind of his racing career and your own ambitions, had let it slip through his fingers.
âCarlos,â you said, your tone carefully neutral. âHi.â
âI didnât know youâd be here.â His words were hesitant, the confident lilt you remembered replaced with something quieter, more cautious.
âLast-minute decision,â you replied, shifting uncomfortably. âI didnât think⌠I mean, I wasnât expecting to see you.â
Carlos chuckled, the sound low and self-deprecating. âSmall town. Hard to avoid people here, especially during the holidays.â
You nodded, your gaze dropping to your boots. It was easier than looking into his eyes, those eyes that still held the power to undo you. The silence stretched, heavy with everything unsaid, until Carlos finally spoke again.
âCan I walk with you?â
Your first instinct was to say no, to keep your distance. But then you glanced at himâthe boyish grin he wore to mask his uncertainty, the scarf wrapped haphazardly around his neck, the way he still stood with that slight tilt youâd teased him aboutâand you knew you couldnât say no.
âOkay.â
The walk was quiet at first, the sound of your footsteps mingling with the distant hum of holiday music spilling from a nearby cafĂŠ. You felt his presence beside you, close enough to remind you of what it had been like to have him in your life, but not close enough to bridge the chasm that had grown between you.
âYou look good,â he said suddenly, breaking the silence. âHappy.â
You glanced at him, surprised. âThanks. So do you.â
He smiled, but it didnât reach his eyes. âIâve missed you, Y/N.â
The words hit you like a gust of icy wind, stealing your breath. âCarlosâŚâ
âNo, let me say this,â he interrupted, stopping in his tracks. You turned to face him, your heart pounding. âI know I messed up. I know I let you go when I shouldâve fought for you. And Iâve regretted it every day since.â
Your chest tightened. âWhy are you telling me this now?â
He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture so familiar it hurt. âBecause seeing you here, it feels like⌠I donât know, fate? Or maybe itâs just a Christmas miracle. But I donât want to let this moment pass without telling you how I feel.â
You stared at him, the weight of his words sinking in. Part of you wanted to run, to protect yourself from the possibility of heartbreak. But another partâthe part that had never stopped loving himâwanted to believe in second chances.
âCarlos,â you began, your voice trembling. âI donât know ifâŚâ
âPlease,â he said, stepping closer. âIâm not asking for an answer now. Just⌠think about it. Think about us. And if you feel even a fraction of what I feel, Iâll be here. Iâll wait as long as it takes.â
You looked into his eyes, and for the first time in years, you allowed yourself to hope. Maybe, just maybe, this Christmas would be the start of something new. Or the rekindling of something old. Something worth holding onto.
The rest of the walk passed in contemplative silence, the festive sounds of carolers and the occasional distant laugh floating through the air. By the time you reached the house where the party was in full swing, the air between you had shifted, charged with unspoken possibilities. As you stood on the doorstep, Carlos hesitated, his hand halfway to his scarf before he let it drop back to his side.
âI mean it, Y/N,â he said quietly. âIâll be here. If you need time, take it. If you need space, Iâll give it. But if you⌠if you ever feel like you want to talk, Iâm just a phone call away. Or a short walk in this tiny town.â
You smiled despite yourself. The image of Carlos pacing his childhood home, phone in hand, waiting for a sign from you, was both endearing and heartbreakingly familiar. âThanks, Carlos,â you said softly.
Before you could say anything else, the door burst open, spilling laughter and warm air into the chilly night. A friendâs familiar face greeted you, dragging you inside before you could protest. Carlos lingered at the threshold, giving you a small wave before the door closed behind you.
The party swirled around youâthe clink of glasses, the hum of conversation, the flicker of fairy lights strung around the roomâbut your mind kept wandering back to the man who had just walked away. You replayed his words, his expression, the way his voice had cracked just slightly when he said heâd wait.
As you stood by the window with a glass of mulled wine an hour later, you saw him outside. Carlos was leaning against the fence, his breath visible in the cold air, his scarf trailing down one side. He wasnât looking at the house, just gazing up at the sky as snow began to fall again.
Your heart twisted. The cautious hope youâd felt earlier now burned brighter, threatening to melt away the walls youâd built around yourself. Maybe, just maybe, some thingsâsome peopleâwere worth risking it all for.
And with that thought, you set your glass down and grabbed your coat. As you stepped outside, Carlos turned, his expression shifting from surprise to something softer, warmer.
âHey,â you said, your voice barely louder than the snowflakes falling around you.
âHey,â he replied, a smile on his face.
This time, you closed the distance between you. And when you spoke, your words carried the weight of every Christmas past and the promise of every Christmas yet to come. âLetâs talk.â
And as the snow continued to fall, the conversation turned into laughter, shared memories, and touches that melted in the cold distance. By the time the party spilled into the streets for carolling, you and Carlos walked hand in hand, a renewed warmth radiating between you. With every note sung, every smile exchanged, and every promise made in whispered tones, the magic of Christmas wrapped around you both, healing old wounds and forging something new.
When the clock struck midnight and the church bells chimed, Carlos turned to you, his eyes sparkling like the lights around the plaza. âMerry Christmas, Y/N.â
You smiled, leaning in to kiss him, the snow falling gently around you. âMerry Christmas, Carlos.â
This Christmas, it wasnât just about second chances. It was about finding your way back to where your heart had always belonged.

Spells from the Heart
Pairing: Tom Riddle x Fem!Muggle!Reader
Includes: mentions of war, memory loss, stalking, reader is naive, goes from third person to second, story is in Tom's p.o.v.
Word count: 1.2k
Summary: You come across something you shouldn't have, and Tom decides to keep you.
Passing through the war-wrecked streets of London, Tom made his way to his usual hiding spot where he could perform magic without being discovered.
It amused him to call it a hiding spot, because it was in fact a field, though â in all fairness â it was in the middle of the woods.
As Tom finally reached his destination, the smell of Earth surrounded him. He shut his eyes â a rare moment of vulnerability â and took in a deep breath, taking in the wet scent of soil and flowers with him.
He dropped his worn down satchel and discarded his coat on the ground. He sat atop his dark coat and grabbed an old book out of his bag. It was a book of spells that he was able to convince the Hogwarts librarian to let him borrow over summer break.
He scanned through the contents of the book, trying to decide on the first spell he would like to practice.
As a small bunny came into sight, Tom selected Vera Verto.
He stood up on his two feet and grasped his wand. He pointed it at the unsuspecting creature and whispered, âVare-ah vore-toe,â pronouncing it as was written in the book.
Before his own two eyes, the bunny went from a living being to a goblet of water. Pride bubbled in Tomâs chest.
As he was about to mutter a spell to reverse it, a gasp from behind stopped him.
Clutching his wand, Tom turned around to find a girl around his age standing in shock from what sheâd just witnessed. Like sheâd come to her senses, she scrambled into a run.
Fortunately for Tom â but unfortunate for her â he was able to point his wand at her and yelled, âKahr-pay ruh-track-tum.â
The girl was pulled towards Tom's chest, and with a grunt he wrapped an arm around her waist. She clawed at his arm like a feral animal and he had the urge to ask her to stop it.
With his free hand, Tom pointed his wand at the stranger again. âObliviate,â passed through his lips and instantly her body went limp. He dropped her onto the damp grass.
Tom wasnât sure when her consciousness would resurface, so he made quick work in putting his coat and satchel back on and stuffing his wand back in his pocket.
Before leaving, Tom looked down at the girl. Hair covered her face and Tom reached down to move it away. He noted that she was quite pretty.Â
After being caught using magic, Tom hadnât visited the fields in a few days. But, his fingers twitched to grab onto his wand. To point it at something and mutter a spell. The children at Woolâs Orphanage got on Tomâs, but of course he couldnât punish them for it like when he was a child.
Done with being reminded of his predicament, Tom finally decided to go on a walk. It led him to the edge of the woods anyways.
He couldnât help but think of you as he walked. He hadnât used a spell on a muggle for so long, and doing so left behind a certain thrill.
Tom stopped walking and squinted. A little ways away from him, he caught sight of a house. It was hidden behind several large trees, casting a darkness upon it and hiding it from view.
As Tom got nearer to one of the windows, he saw a glimpse of someone. You.
He ducked under the window, and thought of how much of a fool he must have looked. He certainly felt like one.
The walls were rather thin, Tom learned as he listened to her hum. He recognized the tune. âI Donât Want to Set the World on Fire.â At times the song would play on the small radio during dinner time.
A few moments passed. In those few moments, Tom realized that you were home alone. You looked to be Tomâs age, and if he was right, that meant your parents werenât home.
Tom walked up the steps to your front door and knocked. The humming stopped and Tom listened to the sound of hurried footsteps.
The door creaked open. You looked up at Tom with wide eyes. He supposed you were surprised. It was unlikely that many people visited your family much.
âExcuse me, Miss. If itâs no bother, I was hoping you could help me? Iâve seemed to have gotten lost.â
Your face relaxed as you took in Tomâs words. âOf course. Do you just need directions, or do you want to make a phone call to your parents? If you have a telephone, of course.â
Tom pretended to think for a moment. The latter would easily let him into your house. âWould you mind if I phoned my parents? They must be worried.â The lie slid off of Tomâs tongue like honey.
With a nod, you let Tom into the house.
Silly girl.
Tom followed you into a small living room. You pointed to the rotary dial resting atop the wooden table in front of the couch.
âIâll wait in another room.â With that, you walked up the steps to what Tom assumed to be your bedroom. âIâll be back in just a moment,â your distant voice called out.
Tom had no use for the telephone. Instead, he looked at what stood tall on the mantelpiece. It was the goblet he had created several days ago.
You must have been so confused when you awoke after being obliviated.
Tom picked up the cup and brought it closer to his face to inspect it. It was blue with carvings of seahorses and mermaids covering the upper half of it.
Tom placed the cup back to its rightful place. Heâll be kind and let you keep it.
Tom slowly walked up the steps, careful not to make the steps creak.
Once he reached the top, he scanned the three doors. One was yours, one your parents, and one the bathroom, he assumed.
Tom opened the first door. It was obviously not your parents, as the only way the bed could fit two people was if they crammed together. The sheets were pink, and books littered the vanity.
He picked one up. Pride and Prejudice. The copy looked like it had been well loved. He tucked it into his coat pocket.
He shut the door and proceeded to open the next one directly across from your room. Disappointingly, there was no sight of you in the small bathroom.
Tom shut the door again and walked towards the room at the end of the hall. He opened it up and saw you sitting on a chair, rummaging through a desk drawer.
You looked up in surprise as Tom entered, halting your movements.
Tom clasped his hands behind his back. âI just got off the phone with my father.â
You nod. âUm.. Iâm just looking for my parents' map. I know they have one, and I thought I could give you directions to help you get back home.â
How sweet.
He walked over to where you sat, and took note of how your breathing quickened as he got nearer.
You would make a nice summer plaything. And the best part was you wouldnât even remember.
a/n: that poor bunny stuck as a cup foreverđ Also, I loved going through the Harry Potter Spellbook to write this. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! divider creds: @saradika

Hey, can i request some friends to lovers relationship headcannons for Gray, Natsu and Loke from Fairy Tail with and fem!reader please
彥FRIENDS TO LOVERS
a/n- the crazy thing is this is a trope that would work for them the best, can you tell loke is my fave i went crazy on his
ÂŤââââââ ÂŤ â
ĘâĄÉâ
Âť âââââ❍ââââââ ÂŤ â
ĘâĄÉâ
Âť ââââââÂť
GRAY
unfortunately for you since yâall are friends he always walkin around in his drawls, he simply does not care
he makes fun of you to no end, and donât let you talk about something he could care less about either
âshh shh wait you hear that y/n?â he cups his ear âi donât hear anything??â âyou see because thatâs the sound of someone who gives a fuck.â you rose a brow âi donât hear any- oh.â
he thinks heâs so funny
heâs actually thee worst person to go to for relationship advice, if he openly does not like the person youâre dating and you come to him about your problems heâs like âbreak up with themâ with no type of hesitation
at some point, you had to stop goin to him for relationship advice and only talk to him for a good rant
even if yâall are real tight he wonât tell you about ur, until he goes to that moon island and the memories resurface for him, then heâll tell you all about it
but heâs not a big sentimental guy so itâs a little hard for him but youâre glad to know he could trust you
when he catches feelings for you he denies it terribly, he could catch himself starin at you too long and he snaps his neck in the other direction with a quickness
and donât let anyone mention it either because it becomes even more obvious
âwhat are you talking about?? me and y/n? nah weâre just friendsâŚâ he says while watching you laugh with your friends with a smile
refuses to ask anyone for advice, he hopes to suffer quietly and move on
heâs the type to confess on accident, probably during a quest and you almost get hurt really bad and he saves you, you try to brush it off n make a joke out of it and he gets mad at you for it
âyou could have died back there y/n. do you have any idea how that would have affected us at the guild?! how it would affect me!?â he sighs before continuing âyou drive me so damn crazy you know that? i canât live without you.â
he indirectly confesses to you with that and yâall are basically dating
unsurprisingly he acts the exact same, the only thing that changes is the fact that if he teases you too much you can shut him up with a kiss and heâs always like âoh?â, he is very aware of his effect on you and will continue to annoy you for more kisses
when he strips down itâs way more annoying than when yâall were just friends because he teases you about it
âare yâa that crazy about me that youâre embarrassed y/n?â
a good hit upside the head will do the trick just fine though
he still wonât be able to open up about things easily though, after years of constantly trying to brush things off it doesnât come naturally to him, but he appreciates that youâre there to listen
NATSU
this trope was made for him actually
as his friend he would always drag you along to do all kinds of shit, he drags you along on quests 24/7 and trusts you to watch his back
if he starts a fight in the guild he always comes over to you smiling like an idiot whether he won or lost, constantly asking if you saw the new move he did or how cool he looked doin it
heâs at your house more than his own, he lives to annoy you first thing in the morning, he swears itâs funny but itâs not so funny anymore when he gets rocked for playing too much
he talks to you about igneel from time to time when something reminds him of his father or when he thinks of him just cause and he always tells you that igneel would love you if the two of you would meet each other
heâs not shy about his feelings towards you, heâs kinda obvious about them but not obnoxiously obvious about it, itâs clear to everyone else but not you because thatâs just how he is
he would be around you more but it wouldnât feel new because he was already around 24/7, but he would become slightly more touchy like throwing his arm around your shoulders n junk
he compliments you more too
âhey y/n! lookin good!â
eventually, yâall start jokingly flirting with each other, it goes on for a good while until you catch feelings. you try to ease up on the flirting but he keeps going so you admit that the flirting is getting to you and admit that you canât flirt with him anymore if itâs not real and he says
âwait i thought we were already dating?â
once yâall are official things are more clear between the two of you, he screams âfun datesâ guy so he loves going to nearby fairs with you on dates
he loves eating the food there and having you try some of the food
nap dates could be his thing too, you would have to talk him into it because staying still for long periods of time aint his thing, but when he comes over and heâs really tired he just wordlessly drags you into your bedroom and collapses on you and falls asleep immediately, run your fingers through his hair he loves that
his kisses have playful energy to them, you can feel him smiling into the kiss and itâs the cutest thing ever
when he tells you about igneel itâs different from when yâall were just friends, he talks about you meeting him, and him showing you off to his father knowing that he would love you as much as he does
LOKE
y'all would be real close, when he was interested in he would tell you immediately which happened literally every day, he would be like
"hey you see that girl over there? i think I'm gonna go talk to her"
and you would never be able to talk him out of it either
but at the same time, he would keep certain things from you like him being a celestial spirit, he was planning to never tell you about it till his time was up, as he feels his time fading he's filled with regret, instead of telling you how he felt he just ignored his feelings with other women and in the end he wasn't even able to tell you that he loved you
when lucy makes a contract with him, she insists that he goes and confesses his feelings for you
"we all know loke, y/n might not have noticed but we see the way you look at herâŚand ironically you donât see the way she looks at you eitherâ his eyes widen, and lucy extends her hand to him âgo get herâ
his confession is the sweetest thing ever
with encouragement from lucy, he wasted no time running back to the guild, he almost tripped a couple times from the brute force of his start but he didnât care he needed to see you. he burst into the guild hall out of breath âwhere is y/n?!â he shouted. the other guild members crowed around loke wondering what happened, asking him about his new look, and wondering why he ran out of the guild earlier âthereâs no time for that dammit where is y/n?â cana spoke over the crowd âsheâs on her way home to i would go get her now before she moves on if i were you!â
he started running once again by the time he found you, you were a few steps from your house before he shouted ây/n!!â causing you to stop in your tracks at the sound of his voice âloke?â he ran up to you and sweeped you into a hug, he hugged you so tight as if you were going to disappear âi wonât leave you like that again i promise.â
the two of you share a kiss and he tells you everything, he talks about him being a celestial spirit, he tells you ab the previous wizard he made a contract with and why he made up the identity âlokeâ
from there he tells you his real name, and every time you say it he gets butterflies
as for yâallâs relationship heâs often out of the celestial world hanging out with you on days heâs not on lucyâs schedule
out of respect for lucy yâall never have anything planned on the days heâs contracted, and out of respect she doesnât call him when she knows yâall are busy, she is yâallâs biggest supporter
when heâs seen around the guild heâs normally seen with you close by, his arm will always be around you one way or another whether itâs your shoulder or waist itâs gonna be there
as the king of the zodiacs, he often calls you âmy queenâ
he seems like the beach date type, but not during the day during the night time so yâall can see the stars, he points out his constellation
âif thereâs ever a time iâm not able to be with you the stars will always be by your side.â

Returning Home - Pablo Gavi
Authors note: send me some requests!
WC: 1300+
warnings: incorrect grammar (probably), my first language isn't english so if you notice any mistakes please tell me, just fluff!
summary: your visit home takes an interesting turn.
You find yourself at the edge of your childhood town, where the houses are smaller, and the roads are narrower. The memories you buried resurface with each step you take down the familiar streets. Your parents have moved away, but youâre back to help with selling the old house. Itâs been years since you were last here, and everything looks both familiar and alien.
You didnât expect to feel so much, and the emotions that swirl inside you are a complex blend of nostalgia and regret. You wonder how much Pablo has changed since you last saw him. Your heart tightens at the thought of him, your childhood best friend, your almost-love.
The door to your old house creaks open, and a flood of memories rushes in. You recall the countless hours spent playing in the backyard, the late-night conversations, and the moments of unspoken affection that you and Pablo shared. You remember the summer evenings when the two of you would sit on the porch, your shoulders brushing against each other, the air filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and the sound of crickets.
Back then, you didnât need words to communicate. A glance, a touch, a smile were enough. You both knew what the other was thinking. But as you grew older, the unspoken bond became more complicated. Pablo started to avoid you, his laughter no longer a constant presence in your life. The day he introduced his girlfriend, Sofia, was the day you felt a piece of your heart crumble.
You hear a knock on the door, and your heart skips a beat. Itâs Mrs. Ramirez from next door, holding a plate of cookies like she always used to. Sheâs aged, but her smile is as warm as ever.
âWelcome back, dear. I saw the lights on and thought Iâd bring you some of my famous cookies,â she says.
âThank you, Mrs. Ramirez. Itâs good to be back, even if just for a while,â you reply, taking the plate from her.
She nods, her eyes softening. âYou know, Pablo still asks about you whenever heâs in town. Heâs in town for the summer break.â
Your heart races at the mention of his name. âOh, really? How is he?â
She smiles knowingly. âWhy donât you find out for yourself? Heâs helping with the football clinic at the high school.â
You thank her and close the door, leaning against it. The thought of seeing Pablo again fills you with a mixture of excitement and dread. You decide to go to the high school, unable to resist the pull of your past.
The high school football field is bustling with activity, just like it always was during the summer. You spot Pablo almost immediately. Heâs taller, more muscular, and his once-boyish face now has the chiseled features of a man. But his eyes are the same, warm and inviting, and when they meet yours, you see a flicker of recognition and something more.
âHey,â you say, trying to keep your voice steady.
âHey,â he replies, a smile spreading across his face. âItâs been a long time.â
âYeah, it has. How have you been?â
âGood, good. Just busy with football and trying to give back to the community when I can. What about you?â
You both exchange the usual pleasantries, but thereâs an undercurrent of tension, a thousand unspoken words hanging between you. The conversation lulls, and you both stand there, unsure of what to say next.
âDo you want to go for a walk?â Pablo asks suddenly.
You nod, and the two of you leave the bustling field behind. The streets are quieter now, the sun casting long shadows as it begins to set. You walk in silence for a while, the comfortable silence that once defined your friendship.
âI missed you,â Pablo says finally, breaking the silence.
You stop, turning to face him. âI missed you too. Why did you pull away?â
He sighs, running a hand through his hair. âI was scared. Scared of what I felt for you. Sofia was...a distraction, a way to try and forget.â
âDid it work?â you ask, your voice barely a whisper.
âNo,â he admits, looking down. âI thought it would, but it didnât. I couldnât stop thinking about you. I couldnât stop wishing things were different.â
You reach out, touching his arm gently. âPablo, I felt the same way. But I was scared too. I thought you didnât want me.â
He looks up, his eyes filled with a mixture of regret and hope. âI always wanted you. I still do.â
You take a deep breath, feeling the weight of the past lifting from your shoulders. âSo, what now?â
âNow,â he says, taking your hand in his, âwe start over. We donât have to be scared anymore.â
The walk continues, but this time, your hands are intertwined. You talk about everything and nothing, catching up on the years you lost. Thereâs an ease between you, a sense of rightness that neither of you can deny.
Over the next few days, you and Pablo spend more time together, rediscovering the bond that once defined your lives. Itâs as if no time has passed, and yet everything has changed. You visit old haunts, laugh over shared memories, and talk about your hopes and dreams. The connection that was once so fragile now feels unbreakable.
One evening, as the sun sets, you find yourselves back on the porch of your old house. The air is filled with the scent of jasmine, and the crickets are singing their familiar song. Pablo turns to you, his eyes reflecting the fading light.
âIâve never stopped loving you,â he says softly. âAnd I donât want to spend another day without you.â
Tears fill your eyes as you reach for his hand. âI love you too, Pablo. I always have.â
He leans in, and the kiss is tender, filled with years of longing and unspoken words. Itâs a promise of a future together, a future that both of you are ready to embrace.
As the days turn into weeks, you and Pablo become inseparable once more. The town, with its narrow streets and small houses, becomes a place of new beginnings rather than old regrets. You find a job at a local gallery, and Pablo continues his football career, traveling for games but always returning home to you. Together, you build a life thatâs filled with love, laughter, and the kind of happiness that only comes from being with the person you were meant to be with.
One evening, after one of Pablo's games, you find yourselves back at your place, the excitement of his victory still buzzing in the air. Youâre on the couch, wrapped in each otherâs arms, sharing little kisses, unable to stop now that you have each other. The TV is on in the background, but neither of you is paying attention. All that matters is this moment, the warmth of his body against yours, the feel of his lips on your skin.
âI donât ever want to let you go,â Pablo murmurs, his voice husky with emotion.
âThen donât,â you whisper back, your fingers tracing the lines of his face. âWeâve wasted enough time already.â
He smiles, pulling you closer. âI love you.â
âI love you too,â you reply, feeling the truth of the words deep in your heart.
As the night wears on, you and Pablo continue to hold each other, the unspoken promises of a future together hanging in the air. You know that there will be challenges ahead, with his demanding career and the complexities of life, but for now, in this moment, everything is perfect.
You drift off to sleep in his arms, dreaming of all the possibilities that lie ahead. And as you wake up the next morning, sunlight streaming through the windows, you know that youâve finally found your way back to each other, and nothing will ever come between you again.

behind our shadows
Pairings ; Jenna Ortega x Male!Reader
Warning/s ; none
From the moment Y/N and Jenna met in elementary school, they were rivals. Whether it was competing for the top spot in spelling bees, racing each other during recess, or even vying for the best grades, the two seemed destined to clash. Their competitive streaks continued through middle school and high school, where they joined opposing teams in every club or activity they were a part of.
Now, at 21, Y/N and Jenna were both rising stars in the acting world. Their paths crossed once again when they were cast together in the highly anticipated "Wednesday" show, with Jenna reprising her role as Wednesday Addams and Y/N playing a new character introduced to shake things up.
The first few days on set were rough. Jenna and Y/N's old rivalry resurfaced quickly, creating an awkward atmosphere for everyone around them. Emma and Georgie, who played Enid and Ajax respectively, could sense the tension and knew something had to be done.
"Those two are impossible," Emma whispered to Georgie during a break. "They're going to ruin the show with their constant bickering."
Georgie nodded. "We need to do something to make them see eye to eye. But what?"
Emma's eyes sparkled with mischief. "I have an idea. But it's a little drastic."
The next day, during lunch, Emma and Georgie lured Jenna and Y/N into one of the unused rooms on set under the pretense of a meeting. As soon as they were inside, Emma and Georgie shut the door and locked it from the outside.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Jenna banged on the door.
"Yeah, let us out!" Y/N added, equally frustrated.
Emma's voice came through the door. "Not until you two sort out whatever is going on between you. We're not letting you out until you can at least be civil."
Georgie chimed in, "We have plenty of snacks and drinks out here, so take your time!"
At first, Jenna and Y/N sat in silence, glaring at each other. Minutes felt like hours as the tension grew.
"This is ridiculous," Jenna finally said, crossing her arms. "Why do we always end up like this?"
Y/N sighed. "Because you're always trying to one-up me. Ever since we were kids."
"Me? You're the one who always has to be the best at everything," Jenna retorted.
"You're just mad because I actually am the best," Y/N shot back, smirking.
"Oh, please," Jenna rolled her eyes. "You wouldn't know best if it hit you in the face."
"Is that so? At least I don't have to resort to dirty tricks to get ahead," Y/N snapped.
Jenna glared at him. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You know exactly what I mean," Y/N replied, leaning forward. "Remember the science fair in eighth grade?"
"You mean the one I won fair and square?" Jenna crossed her arms defensively.
"Fair and square? You sabotaged my project!" Y/N exclaimed.
Jenna gasped. "I did not! You're just mad because you couldn't handle a little competition."
Y/N shook his head. "You've always been impossible."
"And you've always been infuriating," Jenna retorted.
As they continued to argue, rehashing old grievances and misunderstandings from their childhood, they started to realize how much they had in common.
"Remember the time we both got detention for fighting over who got to lead the science project?" Y/N chuckled, breaking the ice a bit.
Jenna smiled for the first time. "Yeah, we were so stubborn. I think the teacher just gave up on us."
Slowly, the conversation shifted from arguments to shared memories and laughter. They talked about their dreams, their struggles, and how much they had changed over the years.
"I never hated you, you know," Jenna admitted quietly. "I just... always felt like I had to prove myself to you."
Y/N looked at her, surprised. "I felt the same way. I guess we were more alike than we thought."
As the hours passed, something changed between them. The rivalry melted away, replaced by a deep understanding and connection. Jenna looked at Y/N, her heart pounding.
"I think... I think I might actually like you," she confessed.
Y/N's eyes widened. "You know, I've been feeling the same way. I guess we were too busy competing to see what was right in front of us."
They sat in silence for a moment, letting the weight of their words sink in. Then, slowly, Y/N reached out and took Jenna's hand.
Emma and Georgie finally opened the door, peeking inside to see the two sitting close together, holding hands and talking softly.
"Looks like our plan worked," Emma whispered to Georgie.
Over the next few months, Jenna and Y/N's relationship blossomed. They worked together seamlessly on set, their chemistry undeniable. The cast and crew noticed the change, and the show's production ran smoother than ever.
Two years later, Jenna and Y/N stood in front of their family and friends, exchanging vows. The rivalry that had defined their childhood was now a distant memory, replaced by a deep, abiding love.
"I can't believe we started as enemies," Y/N said, smiling at Jenna as he slipped a ring onto her finger.
Jenna grinned back. "It's funny how life works out. I wouldn't change a thing."
As they shared their first kiss as a married couple, the crowd erupted into cheers. Emma and Georgie, standing off to the side, high-fived each other.
"We did good," Emma said, beaming.
"Yeah, we did," Georgie agreed.
Years passed, and Jenna and Y/N's love only grew stronger. They continued to work in the entertainment industry, often collaborating on projects and supporting each other's careers. They built a life filled with love, laughter, and the occasional playful competition, just to keep things interesting.
Their journey from rivals to lovers was an unexpected one, but it proved that sometimes, the person you least expect can turn out to be the love of your life.
As they sat together on their porch, looking out at the sunset, Jenna leaned her head on Y/N's shoulder.
"Do you ever miss those days when we were constantly trying to outdo each other?" she asked with a smile.
Y/N chuckled. "Not really. I like this version of us much better."
Jenna nodded in agreement. "Me too."
And with that, they watched the sun dip below the horizon, content in the knowledge that they had found their way to each other, despite all the odds.

With all my love, pt. 3
Part 3 is finally here and *gasp* lore?!
Do you know how hard it is to escape your top 5 pro-hero ex-boyfriend? His voice plays on my radio during my commute. His image is plastered across the news in the lobby this morning before lunchâheâs acting irrationally again. Heâs always been too much of a hothead.
His recent heroic deeds have garnered both admiration and scrutiny. My departure seems to have affected him, causing some of his harsher traits to resurface. I never anticipated that he would notice, let alone react like this.
"I don't care if he's a jerk. Dynamite is one of the best heroes of this generation," I overhear one of the news anchors saying. The radio in the small restaurant makes it hard to miss.
"Dynamite is one bad decision away from killing someone," the woman says, clearly frustrated with her cohost. "I don't even know if it would be on accident."
"He has saved more people this year than Deku. How is that not a hero?" the cohost argues back.
"He's also cost this city thousands of man-hours repairing the damage his blasts created."
I set my tablet down, trying to push their argument out of my head. The familiar chime of bells rings, drawing my gaze to the doorway.
A redhead stands there, his eyes scanning the restaurant until they find mine. His face softens as he makes his way over, pulling out a chair and sitting across from me.
"You look good today," he says warmly. "Changed your hair?"
"No, but I did change my relationship status." I roll my eyes at his attempt at small talk. I know my ex-boyfriend's best friend didnât just call me up to chat.
He chuckles, a sound out of place given the tension. âLook, I know things have been rough for you.â
âRough? Thatâs putting it mildly.â
He leans forward, elbows on the table. âI want to help. Heâs worried about you, you know.â
I sigh, glancing at the drawing in front of me. âHe wasnât worried when I was crying myself to sleep.â
âI get it,â he says softly. âBut heâs struggling too. The hero life isnât as glamorous as it seems. You know that better than anyone.â My heart skips a beat at the reminder of my early retirement. âThe constant pressure, the expectations... itâs taking a toll on him.â
I look up, meeting his eyes. They hold sincerity, a genuine concern I hadnât expected. âWhat do you want from me?â I whisper.
âTalk to him. Just once. Hear him out. You both deserve that closure.â
I lean back, the weight of his words settling over me.
âFine,â I say after a long pause. âIâll talk to him. But this doesnât mean anything beyond that.â
He nods, a small smile playing on his lips. âThatâs all Iâm asking. Thank you.â
He settles back into his chair and picks up the menu. "Why don't we order something?"
I nod, grateful for the change in topic. "Sure. I hear their ramen is amazing."
We browse the menu, tension easing as we focus on the food. The waitress comes by, and we place our ordersâspicy miso ramen for me, tonkotsu ramen for him.
As we wait, the restaurant buzzes with lunchtime chatter. Clinking utensils, humming conversations, and occasional laughter create a comforting atmosphere. It feels almost normal, a brief break from the chaos.
âSo,â he says, breaking the silence, âhowâs work? Still drawing those amazing designs?â
I smile, appreciating his interest. âYeah, hectic, but Iâm managing. Deadlines are killer, though.â He laughs as our waitress places two bowls in front of us.
âI can imagine. But your work is worth it. Youâve got talent, always have.â
âThanks,â I say, feeling more at ease. âHow about you? Howâs hero life?â
âItâs... a lot,â he admits, mouth full of food. He swallows. âBut itâs worth it, knowing weâre making a difference." I hum in agreement, tasting my food. The flavorful broth dances across my tongue, making me do an unconscious happy dance.
"We really do miss you though," Kiri says, his voice trailing off as he scratches his neck. I feel a pang of remembrance. I've never stopped missing being a hero. I hate not being able to work with my best friends.
"I don't get a retirement package as a hero," I reply, forcing a smile to mask my heartache. But it's clear my facade fails as regret fills Kiri's eyes. Apologies spill from his lips, but I don't listen. Instead, I reach out and gently place my hand on his for a brief moment.
"Eijiro, I promise you I've moved on. I don't blame anyone for what happened," I assure him, pushing another smile onto my face. "I got over that a long time ago."
I withdraw my hand and continue to eat, the conversation flowing more easily after a few moments. We reminisce about our days at UA, share laughs about our coworkers, and for a while, it feels like old times.
By the time we finish, I feel lighter, the past weeksâ weight lifting slightly. Itâs not a solution, but itâs a start.
âThanks for meeting me,â he says as we stand to leave. âand for agreeing to talk to him.â
I nod, a sense of anticipation blooming. âWeâll see how it goes.â
As we step out into the cityâs noise, I unblock his number from my phone and watch in horror as hundreds of missed messages flood my phone screen.

went to the doctor and came back with the test results on jade leech. (headcanons/exploration from canon)
1. doesnât like strong scents and stays away from most colognes/perfumes. if he is going out to a certain high-quality function, he might wear body mists or perfume oils to give off a certain air of maturity. finds anything heavier than those two alternatives gives him a migraine. a book that would interest yet disgust him is perfume: the story of a murder by patrick sĂźskind.
1.2. despite the constant âi must cut off my nose if i smell anything stronger than a candleâ feeling he carries with him, he really does enjoy the plain smell of his loved ones. just a whiff of floyd or azulâs sweat and his own tension melts away. would bury his nose in their neck throughout the day for a quick refresher if he wasnât so guarded around the publicâs eye.
2. picked up his potionology expertise from azul. when they were kids, they often brewed potions together to give certain âpoor unfortunate soulsâ their end of the bargain when azulâs UM was still underdeveloped. azul was always a little bitter his potions never turned out as flawless as jadeâs and jade is aware of this sentiment.
3. is known to take strolls around campus after hours and often finds himself caught in conversation with the ghosts in the portraits. during the daytime, jade will exchange a few pleasantries with them â which does not make sense to azul or floyd because heâs never interacted with them before?? how are they on such good terms?? jade likes to keep them both in the dark for how the relationship between him and the portrait ghosts was fostered.
3.2. speaking on his strolls, jade often spies malleus doing the same thing yet has yet to make conversation with the young prince. it is not out of fear but rather respect for knowing when one is enjoying their peace. jade often regards malleus with the sentiment of most teenage girls have for their favorite characters: i need to put him under a microscope.
4. his first meal with mushrooms added (lets place him around first year, after winter break) made him violently sick. it was one that he had picked on his own during a night walk, and he added it into a soup because he has seen (yet not tried) those served in the cafeteria like so. due to them being so poorly undercooked, it caused major gastric problems for him. since then, heâs been enthralled and smitten with fungi <3
4.2. speaking on the note of him being sick, i imagine he really enjoys the sensation. now! he doesnât purposely get sick, that would ruin the âauthenticityâ of it. but he enjoys the feeling of his body under the weather, something different from the normal 98.0 Fahrenheit, somehow a virus has slipped through his clean and disinfected body and thatâs exhilarating.
5. his hair bounces up and has cowlicks in it exactly like floydâs does. he takes to gently combing and gelling down those in the morning, but when he takes off his octavinelle hat, some will resurface over time. every time floyd goes to ruffle his hair, his wrist is swiftly caught and squeezed by a gloved hand.
6. is known to like quiet, dark, and cold places. it is hard to find such places in a college like night raven but mostro loungeâs walk-in freezer has all THREE of these attributes. has on more than one occasion scared an employee because he sits in the corner, doing homework in the pitch-black dark, and all they can see is the light from his left eye. his reputation keeps anyone from seeing this as odd rather than sinister.
7. is most certainly lying about his UM. always the wolf in sheepâs clothing, he likes to be seen as helpless and he adores being underestimated. sniffle sniffle poor me, my UM only works on one person at a time sniffle sniffle and it is not even a guaranteed thing.
8. has a vigorous appetite and enjoys a wide variety of foods, but has found his favorite fruit to be oranges. he enjoys the sensation of opening them and peeling slice by slice. additionally, vitamin C promotes healthy blood vessel function which works well for a jade with POTS, a headcanon siphoned off this ao3 work.
9. since he does not have the perfect memory like his twin brother, he takes to writing down information about the student body in multiple folders. is always on the lookout for new information and slipping secrets that people whisper in the hallways.
9.2. sometimes gets distracted listening in on other peopleâs conversation if a topic piques his interest. if he is in a conversation with another person while this happens, he turns it on them, maybe you werenât paying attention to him ⌠how rude of you.
10. homestretch ⌠last headcanon ⌠[pukes blood and dies before i can say it]
#me seeing the jade leech tag is low on headcanons ⌠fine iâll do it myself#twst jade#jade leech#twisted wonderland#everyone drop jade headcanon in the comments and MY LIFE IS YOURS#jade leech headcanons

misty [chapter three]
pairing: sdv harvey x reader
synopsis: harvey has always been a man of routine and orderâ although just as he begins to tire of his life in pelican town, a new farmer moves to the valley and turns his life around. chapter three.
warnings: poor overworked harvey :(( please enjoy my harvey playlist while you read ⥠(this is crossposted from ao3).
word count: 1.6k
<< last chapter | next chapter >>
The fluorescent lights of the clinic cast a harsh, sterile glow, illuminating the white walls and linoleum floors of Harveyâs small office, casting an unnaturally pale glow over the cluttered desk. The clatter of the doctorâs footsteps on tiled floors echoes through the empty hallways.
Today was supposed to be different. Today was supposed to be his day off.
For the past two weeks, Harvey had been working overtime, sacrificing his days off to update Pravoloxinanone prescriptions, coordinate with healthcare professionals around Ferngill, and arranging appointments for the townsfolk. Turns out that without the distraction of an attractive farmer, the passing work days have been unforgivingly laborious.
He could, in theory, ask Maru to pick up some extra shifts, to stay behind a couple hours more. He knew she was eager to help, but he couldnât bring himself to burden her further. She had her own responsibilities, attending college lectures online while juggling part-time work at the clinic.
A sudden death rattle of his fax machine shattered the silence, its mechanical whirring cutting through the stillness of the office like a knifeâ a relentless reminder of the endless stream of tasks demanding his attention.
He glances at the clock on the wall, his tired eyes struggling to focus through the thick lenses of his glasses.
3:30 pm.
Another hour wasted, another day lost to the demands of his job. He sighed wearily, running a hand through his greying hair. Harvey still couldnât tell if the strands of silver were a testament to his age or his perpetual stress. He didnât know which answer he would prefer.
He gazed out of his window, watching sparrows gracefully darting through the clear sky above. Dark-eyed juncos, specificallyâ Junco hyemalis. Harveyâs brief fascination with bird-watching while at University always managed to resurface during moments like this, when searching for an excuse to look away from his work.
The sight stirs something within him, prompting him to break the monotony. Locking himself in his office, Harvey realized, would only consign him to an evening of fatigue. So, he pushes away from his cluttered desk, picking up his green overcoat from the coat rack as he leaves the clinic.
Hurrying down the cobblestone path, Harveyâs mind races with a cacophony of thoughts. He fails to notice you walking his way until it is too late.
You collide with a jolt, and Harvey stumbles backward. The doctor could practically hear his heart pounding in his chest. His dishevelled appearance must have been evident, his fatigue and stress written plainly across his face.
âOh, shoot, Iâ,â You panic, rubbing your shoulder bashfully, âI am so sorry, Harvey I-,â
âNo, no, It is perfectly fineâ I was just, distracted tthinking about a recent article I read about the recent rise ofâŚâ His voice trails off, acutely aware of how awkward he must sound, âWhooping⌠cough.â
âHm, that doesnât sound like much fun,â you grimace sympathetically.
âOh, on the contrary! Pertussis is actually rather fascinating, that reminds me to reach out to Jodi and Shane to see if they can book a vaccination appointment for Vincent and Jââ
âYouâre doing the thing.â You interrupt, recognising a fellow workaholic when you see one. A kindred spirit.
âWhat thing? I am not doing a⌠thing.â
âSure you areâ youâre doing the thing I used to do at my old job,â Your tone gentle but firm. âYou grovel and moan over your work, it stresses you out so you take a break, then you realize youâre stuck thinking about the work that was stressing you out!â
âWell, I am a doctorâ There is no way for me to not think⌠I- I have an entire town to look after for Yobaâs sake. â Harvey retorts defensively.
âOf course, and thatâs the problem.â
âThat is..?â
In that moment, as you notice the doctor picking as the skin on his fingers, you see the bags under his eyes; the paleness of his skin. You had seen undead creatures in the mines more full of life.
âWhoâs looking after you, Harvey?â your voice softens, concern evident in your eyes, âI mean, I donât want to pry, but Iâm not surprised youâre stressed with the weight of the valley on you all the time. But you canât manage that burden alone. Nobody could.â
âO-Oh, I umâ,â Harvey falters, stammering as his defences crumble in the face of your genuine concern, âAppreciate your candour, truly, but you do not need to worry about me. My well-being shouldnât be any of yourâŚâ He huffs, his cheeks flushed.
Despite his larger stature, Harveyâs wide eyes scanning your face anxiously made the man appear small; weak. You ignore the impulse to take his rosy cheeks in your hands, or to clasp his hands to calm his nervous fidgeting.
He clears his throat as his phone ringsâ a blocky grey mobile, a model you havenât seen since 2005.
âI- need to take this call, Iâm sorry.â He leaves, jogging back to the clinic. As you see him leave, you wonder what exactly he was apologising for.
As you push open the creaky doors of the saloon, the sounds of clinking glasses and laughter wash over you like a warm embrace. The dimly lit room is filled with the scent of aged wood and the tang of whiskey.
âHey there, stranger!â Samâs booming voice cuts through the din, drawing the attention of the entire room. His grin is as infectious as ever, and you canât help but return it as you make your way over to the group by the pool table. Abigail and Sebastian wave you over eagerly, their faces lit up with genuine excitement.
âHey gang, sorry I got caught up with something,â You drop your backpack on the polished wooden floor as you crash onto the plush sofa next to Abigail.
Itâs been years since youâve all been together like thisâno screens or avatars, just flesh and blood friends reconnecting in the real world. You couldnât help but feel a wave of nostalgia wash over you. Sure, Sebastian is now a little taller, Sam a little more pierced, Abigail a little more muscular. Despite what has changed since you last visited the valley to see your grandfather, the gang was still here. And with the way you all slip into conversation, itâs as if you never left.
As you settle in, taking in the familiar faces and the comforting hum of conversation, Abigail leans in with a mischievous glint in her eye. âSo, whatâs going on with your love life? It seems like every time weâd chat online, youâd either be lovesick or swearing off romance altogether.â
Your smile falters slightly.
It wasnât as though you werenât looking for loveâ if anything, you consider yourself quite the romanticâ but with the chaos of the farm, dating seems out of the question.
âI donât know, Abs. Iâve come to realise that dying alone is underrated,â You quip with a chuckle, hoping a comedic distraction will satisfy as an answer, âHonestly, the freedom of being single rules, you guys should try it some time.â
âNahh,â Sam lets out a hearty laugh, flopping down on top of you and Abigail with all the grace of a newborn foal, âWeâve got the dating thing down, shout out to your lonely ass though.â
âSam!âAbigail gasps incredulously, pushing the blonde off with a huff, though thereâs a fondness in her eyes that belies her words, âDonât be an dick!â
You all share a laugh as Sam looks up from his crumpled position on the floor, his puppy-dog eyes silently pleading for forgiveness.
Sebastian places his drink on a nearby table, sauntering over to the three of you, âWell, (Y/n) if you ever need a wingman, you know where to find me.â He smirks at you before picking up the pool cue resting against the wall.
âPfft, as if theyâd pick you to be their wingman when Iâm right here!â Sam stands up, looking frantically between you and Sebastian before dropping dramatically to his knees, âRight, bestie? Youâd totally trust me to pick you out a partner!â
Before you can imagine what having the punk as your wingman would entail, the bell above the barâs front door chimes: Elliot strides through the saloon, exchanging greetings with Emily and Gus before running his fingers through his auburn hair. You wonder what shampoo he uses.
The poetâs eyes scan the room until they land on you. âAh, apologies for the interruption. Have any of you seen Harvey, perchance? This is the second time he has failed to showâŚâ Elliotâs voice trails off, concern etching lines into his chiselled features.
âOh, I saw him earlier. He seemed,â Overworked? Exhausted? Close to death? ââŚbusy.â
âAh, well that certainly sounds like him. If you happen to run into him again, do try to convince him to re-join society.â Elliot laughs, although there is no more humour in his statement as there is truth.
As the author leaves, the conversation in the saloon continues to flow. Despite your best efforts, you couldnât shake the feeling that you might have overstepped with Harvey earlierâ the thought gnaws at you.
You donât know why you are so worried about him, surely he can look after himself; surely it didnât matter if he has somebody in his life to look after him. You try not to think about somebody else being there for him. Somebody else holding him at night. Somebody else wiping away his tears.
Instead, you force a smile, joining in the laughter, as your concern for Harvey lingers, a shadow over the otherwise cheerful atmosphere of the saloon.

I Can Keep a Secret
Pairing: Joel Miller x f!reader (no outbreak AU)
Rating: 18+ MDNI
Word Count: 5k
Warnings: insecurity, jealousy, smut, p in v sex, oral f!receiving, fingering, multiple orgasms, dirty talk, grief
Summary: The relationship between Joel and Ellieâs older sister is complicated after the two share some tense moments while Ellie is in the hospital. Once Ellie is able to go home the two meet up during their lunch break to discuss where to go from here.
A/N: This is an excerpt from chapter eleven on my fic Always an Angel, Never a God. To read more of this pairing check out my a03.
We eat lunch at a diner nearby. The waitress, a tall woman named Esther with thick brown hair and bright blue eyes, comes by the table frequently. She does her best to flirt with Joel, batting her eyelashes and holding his arm as she refills his coffee cup each time she passes by. I fight the urge to say something, a pit of jealousy growing in my stomach each time she reaches out to grab his arm, but Joel doesnât seem to notice her attention.
She comes by the table again to top off his cup. I watch her manicured hand grip his bicep as she asks if he needs anything else. He looks over at me, raising his eyebrows to ask if I need anything. When I shake my head he briefly thanks her for the coffee and turns his attention back to me.
âSo, sounds like you had a long morning. Is it just about Ellie going back to school?â I take a bite of one of my fries.
âFor the most part,â I respond. âI also had this meeting with the social worker this morning soâŚâ
Joel nods, giving me space to continue if I want to but not pushing the conversation in any way. I know I should be opening up more. Iâm trying not to fall back into my usual isolation, but I keep the wall there. Itâs comfortable on the other side, safe.
He notes my apprehension toward continuing the conversation, so he moves on. I watch him rub the back of his neck again. It must be a nervous habit of his.
âSo, I wanted to talk to you about the other night,â Joel says.
I take another bite of a fry, fighting the blush creeping up my neck as the memory resurfaces. My body feels hot as I think about it. His hands on my hips. His moans in my ear.
âI just wanted to clear the air a little. It feels like things have been a little tense lately, with the kiss and then the moment at the party. I know youâve had a lot going on, and I donât want to pressure you or anything,â He says his words slowly, as if examining each one before he says it.
Esther watched us from the counter, her eyes skipping from him to me. I feel angry watching her assess the situation, like sheâs trying to make a claim to something thatâs mine. Except, Joel isnât mine.
I try to ignore Esther and focus on Joel when he continues. âI completely get it, if it was a heat of the moment, just want to feel something, kind of thing. We can just leave it at that and never talk about it again, but I want to know what it is for you.â
What is it for me, the big question. I knew Iâd have to define it soon. Itâs been keeping me up at night. I think about it while I paint. Every stroke of brown reminds me of his eyes. The golden light filtering through tree lines reminds me of the warmth of his arms around mine.
âI donât think,â I try to formulate my thoughts. I like him. I know I do, but I have baggage that he shouldnât have to deal with no matter how much he claims he can handle it. âIt wasnât just a heat of the moment thing. I mean, the moment gave me the courage to act, but I meant it. I wouldnât take it back. I think I really like you.â
A smile tugs at the edge of his lips. My heart leaps at the gesture. âMe too.â
I bite my lip and push some of the fries back and forth on my plate. He wants me too. My stomach is doing somersaults. I nearly jump up to yell my triumph across the room at Esther, but I think back to Ellie and the promise I made to Marlene.
Jumping into a relationship right now, with Ellieâs best friendâs dad, would put everything Iâm working toward in jeopardy. What if something went wrong and it caused issues between Sarah and Ellie? What if Ellie found out and hated me for it? As much as I like Joel I canât afford any mistakes right now.
âI canât give you what you deserve though. I canât give you the whole relationship thing. I have to be careful though,â I blurt out. Joel places his mug back on the table. âIn that meeting with the social worker, she said some things. I really like you, but Ellie comes first. Ellie always has to come first.â
âI understand that, Iâm the same with Sarah.â Joel responds. He reaches his hands across the table and I take it in mine. âIâll take you in whatever way I can have you.â
My heart sinks at his concession. Itâs sweet, and every girlâs dream, but I donât feel deserving of it. Why should he be relegated to stolen moments behind closed doors? Itâs selfish to ask that of him.
Just then Esther crosses back over to our table. I pull my hand back from Joelâs grasp as she approaches. She grabs his bicep again and I got my teeth.
âEverything alright over here, sugar?â She asks Joel, completely ignoring me.
He flits his eyes up to her face and smiles back at her politely. Blood rushes through my ears as I watch her grip on his arm tighten. Screw it, Iâll be selfish. I grab Joelâs hand again and turn my attention to Esther.
âI think weâre good, thank you.â I respond with my best fake smile. Estherâs eyes move back to me and then my hand holding Joelâs.
âAlrighty then,â she says. She lets go of his arm and sulks away.
â
I rush to unlock the door the second Joel texts me to tell me he arrived. Sure enough, heâs standing on the front porch, the glow of the porch light illuminating the waves in his messy brown hair.
Weâve kept things quiet over the last couple days, being careful not to act any different around other people. It seems best to keep things secret for now. Weâre not in a relationship, itâs more casual than anything. Iâve waited all week to get my hands on him. There was no good way to sneak in a visit during the school week, but the girls are having a sleepover at my house tonight. I texted him when they finally fell asleep and he came over immediately.
I look at the empty street around him and then grab a hold of the collar of his shirt and pull him into the house. He grips my hips for support as he follows me inside, smiling against my lips when he leans down to kiss me. Iâm careful to close the door and lock it as quietly as I can to ensure the girls stay asleep in Ellieâs room upstairs.
Thereâs an excited energy coursing through me. Iâm not sure whether it stems from the newness of this thing with Joel, the building pressure off barely having seen him sided we agreed to see what this is, or the rush of sneaking him around like a secret to be preserved just for me. Whatever it is, my body aches to feel him, to hold him, to be felt by him.
âSomebodyâs excited,â Joel chuckles as he pulls my body closer to his. He kisses me again, deeper this time while he holds my hips against his.
âI need you,â I respond when we break away from each other. Joel squeezes my hips tighter, a low moan escaping his chest.
âSay it again,â Joel pleads.
âI need you, now Joel.â I say again. He whimpers at the sound of it. We donât have a lot of time together tonight. He still has to head home when weâre done so the girls donât get suspicious, and I canât wait any longer. I press a quick peck to his lips and then take his hand to drag him up the stairs.
He quickly follows at my heels. I take him to my bedroom and push him back toward my bed. He topples onto the mattress, his hands gripping the sheets at his sides as I climb on top of him. I press my knees on either side of his thighs and lean down to press delicate kisses along the column of his neck.
âFuck baby, whatâre you-â he gasps when my hands reach down to his belt buckle.
His body is already twitching under my grasp while I slowly undo his belt and throw it behind me on the floor. I lower his jeans next. His hands move from where they had been grasping the sheets to squeeze the sides of my thighs. I make quick work of his shirt next, pulling the buttons open and kissing down his exposed chest.
I press kisses all the way down his body, nipping and licking at the skin from time to time as well. When I reach the waistband of his underwear I press a kiss to his hip and slowly pull the boxers down his thighs as he throws his head back and groans.
His cock springs out at me, hard as a rock already. Iâve felt how large Joel was through his jeans before, when he pressed me down on his lap to grind against him until I came, but to see it is a completely different thing. Joel is huge, his cock easily bigger than any Iâve ever seen before let alone been with. The tip is already leaking a bead of pre-cum which I happily lick into my mouth.
His hips twitch as my lips press against his tip and he makes a quiet hissing sound through his teeth. I take his reaction as encouragement to continue, licking a delicate stripe up the side of his shaft. His hands tangle in my hair as he desperately fights to keep his moans quiet. I take more of him in my mouth and start bobbing my head up and down.
âYes baby, god,â Joel groans. âGood girl, youâre doing so good.â
I hum appreciatively at his praise, causing his hold body to shiver and his hips to buckn further into my mouth. I choke slightly at first, but quickly adjust to take more of him down my throat.
Heâs having a hard time suppressing his noises now. One of his hands adjusts in my hair to hold it in a makeshift ponytail while the other moves to his mouth. He bites down on his hand to muffle his sounds as he watches me through heavy eyes. I pull up for a moment, swirling my tongue around the tip before sinking my mouth back down again.
âFuuuuccckk,â he moans around his hand. He starts to thrust his hips up, unable to hold back any longer. I welcome his length deeper into my mouth, the tip of his chock brushing against the back of my throat with each thrust. I continue to moan while my eyes water.
I havenât always enjoyed this part, many of my boyfriends before were so rough with it, and quick to move on once they got what they wanted, but the sight of Joel coming further and further undone as I take him in my mouth makes me clench my thighs to ease the pressure at my core. I could do this all night, enjoying the feeling of him taking what he wants, but suddenly he pulls me off of him.
âStop, stop,â he says exasperated. He breath comes out in pants while his cock twitches against his stomach.
âIâm sorry, did I do something wrong?â I ask. Joel leans down and uses his thumb to wipe my cheeks off the tears that escaped while he fucked my throat.
âNo baby, that was so good, but if you didnât stop I was gonna come.â I stick out my bottom lip and pout.
âIsnât that the point?â I ask. I reach my hand out to start pumping him again, but he grabs my wrist.
âNot before you it isnât. I gotta be inside you tonight.â I whimper and he pulls me onto the bed.
Joel adjusts our positions so Iâm splayed out on the bed with my head on the pillows. He slowly pulls my old t-shirt over my head, revealing my naked breasts. He groans at the sight of them and quickly lick over one of my nipples. My back arches into him involuntarily. Itâs my turn now to muffle my sounds as he sucks on my nipple, releasing it with a pop before moving on to the next one.
When heâs satisfied he lowers his lips to nip at the underside of my boob and moves his hands down to push my sweatpants off and onto the floor. He traces his fingers over the center of my soaked panties.
âYouâre so wet for me sweetheart,â he says. He moves his lips up to suck on my neck while he moves his fingers in circles over my panties. âShe really been needing me that bad?â
I whimper in response, nodding my head in desperation as I squirm underneath him. He flashes a devilish grin.
âDonât worry baby, Iâll give you what you need.â He promises.
His fingers grip the waistband of my panties and he quickly pulls them off my body as well, leaving me completely bare in front of him. He stands over me, eyes roaming over my figure hungrily.
I move to cover myself, but Joel grabs my wrists and pins them above my head with one hand. His other hand slowly caresses my body while I whimper.
âDonât you dare cover yourself, youâre too damn gorgeous for that.â He says as his hand moves lower.
He cups my mound and smiles when I buck my hips up for more. He carefully slips one of his fingers through my folds, watching my reaction as I squirm underneath him. I fight to keep my eyes on his face and spread my legs further for him.
His thumb reaches down to gently start making circles on my clit. I throw my head back, panting with my eyes squeezed shut. My back arches and Joel uses one of his hands to pin my hips down.
He slides further down the bed and slips two fingers inside me while his thumb continues to circle my clit. I moan quietly at the new feeling. His fingers are thick. It burns softly as my body stretches to welcome him further, but itâs not enough. I need all of him.
âCâmon baby. Câmon, give it to me.â He says, sending a shock through my whole body as his fingers start to thrust into me harder and faster.
I can feel my climax building. His fingers hurt a spot inside me that causes me to see stars. I bite my lip so hard that I can taste blood. The hands on my hip grips me tighter to keep my ass against the mattress. I climb higher and higher until I break.
I whimper Joelâs name as I come, his eyes never leaving my face while he continues to thrust his fingers in and out of my throbbing pussy. When my orgasm finishes he stops for a brief moment to wrap his arms around my thighs. He pulls his mouth to my core, his breath fanning over my sensitive pussy before he begins licking through my folds.
I thrash underneath him, still sensitive from my orgasm, while he holds me still with his hands on my thighs. He sucks on my clit and then releases it with a pop.
âKnew youâd taste so good,â he groans. He kisses my thigh and immediately goes back to my core.
He thrusts his tongue inside me, swirling his tongue around then going back to sucking on my clit. My fingers card into his hair. One of his hands lets go of my thigh to bring his fingers back to my pussy. I pull on his curls as he slides three fingers inside, immediately finding the spot that makes my toes curl.
He smiles and hums against my clit as my pussy clenches around his fingers. I can already feel my next orgasm building.
âJoel, fuck. Joel.â I chant his name as I feel the edge approach. He moves his fingers faster, his tongue moving in quick motions over my clit as well. When my second orgasm washes over me I rush to cover my mouth to muffle my screams.
He continues lapping my juices as I come down, twitching from the sensitivity. When heâs satisfied he moves back up the bed to my lips and kisses me again. His beard is slick with me and I can taste myself in his tongue.
âYou ready for me baby?â He asks when he finally manages to pull his lips off mine. I nod, quickly grabbing a condom out of the nightstand drawer and handing it to him. I need him.
Joel tears the foil open and rolls the condom down his length. Then he reaches down and rubs his cock through my folds. I gasp, tilting my hips against him. He smiles as he rubs the tip against my clit. He notches himself at my entrance and I whimper.
âPlease, Joel, I can't wait any longer. I need you, plea-â he slowly begins to sink into me. âJoel!â
I moan loudly as his cock stretches me open. He moves a hand up to my mouth to stifle my moans, grunting himself as he bottoms out. He is so deep inside me. Iâm not sure if Iâve been with anyone as big as Joel before. He pauses once his hips are flush with mine. He reaches down as kisses me as my pussy throbs around him, and then he slowly pulls out almost completely. The breath is forced out of my lungs when he slams back into me.
He sets a steady pace, his cock hitting my g-spot with each thrust. I can already feel the next orgasm building as I focus on his grunts. So good. So good.
Joel moves his thumb down to my clit again. He moves it in small circles as he thrusts into me. My nails rake down his back, sure to leave marks behind, but it just stirs him on.
âThatâs it baby, fuck! You gonna come again? You gonna come on my cock?â He asks. Iâm dangling over the edge again. I moan out as he thrusts harder.
âYes Joel, fuck. You feel so good. So fucking good inside me. Fuck! Iâm going to come. Iâm going to come again.â
My pussy clenches and then I let go, Joel moving his head to bite into my shoulder to keep himself from shouting out while I clench around him. When my orgasm subsides Joel pulls all the way out and flips me around on the bed.
âHands and knees sweetheart,â he directs. I do as he says, spreading my knees apart for him. He groans as he looks at my glistening folds and then quickly pushes himself back inside me. âFuck, youâre so good baby. Feel so fucking good wrapped around my cock like that.â
He wraps my hair around his fist and pounds into me hard. Each thrust has his hips slamming into my ass. Iâm starting to feel weak after my three orgasms, shaking slightly as my hands try to keep my upper body off the mattress.
A familiar tightening begins in my core. I didnât know it was possible to orgasm this much in one night, but my next one starts building again. Joel is close too, his thrusts becoming more erratic as he moans more. He leans down to press his chest against my back while continuing his thrusts.
âOne more sweet girl,â he whispers in my ear. âBeen doing so good for me. Give me one more and then Iâll let go.â
I whimper as I get closer, my fists baking the sheets up tightly as he continues to slam his hips into me. He moves his chest off my back and pulls my hair again which immediately sends me over the edge. My arms collapse and I cry out as the pleasure takes over.
âGood girl, fuck, perfect. Youâre perfect.â Joel grunts. He slams his hips into mine once, twice, and then he spills into the condom.
He groans as he lets go, one hand gripping my hips tightly while the other stays tangled in my hair. His body twitches against mine for a couple of minutes until he pulls out, tying the condom and throwing it away. I stay laying on the bed while he slips his boxers on and sneaks across the hall to the bathroom. When he comes back he has a warm washcloth. He gently cleans between my thighs and puts the cloth in the laundry bin before returning to bed.
I immediately wrap a leg around him and put my head on his chest while he lies down. Instinctively, he wraps his arms around me to pull me close.
âIf you want to keep this secret I canât stay all night,â Joel whispers into my hair.
âI know, just a little longer.â I respond. He kisses the top of my head and we rest, listening to the soft sounds of each other's breath until I hear Joel drift into sleep.
â
I watch the clock with bleary eyes as Joelâs chest rises and lowers under my head. He canât stay all night, despite how much I want him to, so I stay awake.
I memorize the feeling of his hand on my hip, and the rush waving through my hair with each exhale. I draw patterns on his bare chest with my fingertips, lingering on the raised scar tissue in places. I trace the outlines of his sleeping face in my mind, so tranquil. His usual worry lines fade slightly. Theyâre still pressed into his skin, inevitably theyâll become wrinkles some day, but theyâre faint now.
At 5:30 I wake him up. I say his name softly and press gentle kisses to his skin. He stirs slowly underneath me and blinks while he tries to assess his surroundings. His arms instinctively pull me closer to him, causing my body to melt into his.
âTheyâll be up in a couple hours, you gotta go,â Joel groans. He buries his face in my hair. I find myself debating if it really would be that bad if they found out. For all we know Sarah and Ellie could love the idea, but now is probably not the time to test that theory.
He presses a kiss to my forehead before he pulls away and sits up. He stretches out his body, grunting at the effort. I slide off the bed and grab his flannel from the floor. Joel watches me put it on with a big smile on his face.
âWhat?â I ask, blushing. His eyes moved slowly from his oversized flannel hanging on my shoulders to my bare legs underneath.
âNothinââ he responds, the twang in his voice more evident when combined with the deep tone of his morning voice. âYou just look beautiful is all.â
He slips on his boxers and jeans then pulls his socks and shoes back on as well. Before he walks down the hallway I peek into Ellieâs room. Both her and Sarah are still fast asleep, their heads pressed together as they share Ellieâs bed.
Joel looks in on them over my shoulder and then I quietly close the bedroom door. I hold his hand as I sneak him across the hallway and down the stairs. I feel like a teenager again, sneaking my boyfriend down the stairs before my parents can notice.
He lingers at the front door, gripping my jaw and pulling me in for another kiss. His other hand grips my hip over the top of his flannel and pulls me close to him. I tangle my fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck.
When we separate he kisses my forehead one more time and walks out the door. I stay on the doorstep and watch his truck pull away, Joel stopping to wave at me before he makes his way out of the neighborhood.
I try to get some sleep afterward, but I end up just tossing and turning in bed while smiling like an idiot. I look at the click on my nightstand and decide I probably still have a bit of time before Ellie wakes up. I take a deep breath of Joelâs scent in the flannel, taking it off to change into my painting clothes.
I check Ellieâs bedroom door one more time before I slip into our parentsâ room. The floor crinkles when I step onto the paper I placed on the hardwood in order to protect it from any paint splatter. I pick up supplies and start a new canvas, absentmindedly stroking my brush across the empty space.
I mix different shades of pink, purple, and blue to create a sunrise, but each color also morphs into the shape of him. The dark brown mountain tops shift into the waves of his hair. The golden peach color of the sky adding highlights to his skin. I lose track of everything but the details of the paint until I hear the sound of a knock at the bedroom door. Shit.
I shift the painting out of view from the door and put my supplies back on the dresser. Ellie is standing at the door when I open it. She looks at me confused before she peers into the room behind me.
âIâm so sorry,â I say. I try to leave the room and close the door, but Ellie grabs it from me and opens it wider.
âWhat are you?â I stand aside so she can see I havenât moved any of the furniture. She pinches her eyebrows together and looks at the canvases I have laying around the space.
âNothing, Iâve just been getting back into painting again and I needed some space,â Ellie walks inside while I stand in the hallway. âI know I shouldâve told you first. This was their room and it was off limits. If youâre not comfortable with it I can totally move my stuff out.â
Ellie makes her way around the room, looking at the different paintings I have leaning against the walls. Itâs not a large collection, but Iâve managed to get a couple done over the last week. She stops in front of the first painting I completed.
Itâs a meadow. Wildflowers bloom in the foreground while two girls play in the distance behind them with the evening sun setting under the mountains. Ellie leans in closer to see the faces of the girls, recognizing them as her and I.
âThese are really good,â Ellie says with a smile on her face.
I look at the paintings as well. I donât like to brag, but I truly do feel like this is some of the best work Iâve ever done. I can visibly see the emotion on every canvas. Each piece tells a story. Iâve painted great art before, but thereâs a level of vulnerability to these pieces Iâve never attempted before.
âThank you,â I respond.
I watch Ellie run her hand across the dresser next. She walks to momâs closet and holds One of her shirts in her hands as it hangs off the hanger.
âShe wouldâve loved that youâre painting in here.â Ellie says with her back to me.
Ellie walks back to the painting of her and I. I move to be next to her, both of us focused on the painting. The version of us on the canvas are the girls who donât yet know tragedy. They dance in a meadow of wildflowers with nothing holding them back. They are girls, they are sisters, they are free to live and love without limits.
âI think itâs okay. This space was meant to be lived in.â Ellie says. I bite my lip and nod. âTheyâre not coming back.â
Ellie turns to me, my eyes watering a bit as I fight tears. I canât tell if it was a question, or a statement, but she doesnât wait for my response.
âItâs time for us to move on I think.â She says. A couple of her own tears slip from her eyes. I reach over and wrap her in a hug. She squeezes me tight as she hugs me back.
âWhen did you get to be so smart?â I laugh, tears escaping my eyes as well. Ellieâs bedroom door opens and Sarah makes her way across the hall.
Ellie and I both let go, quickly drying our eyes before Sarah can notice. She looks at the art around the room as well.
âWow, this is so cool! You painted all these?â Sarah asks.
She looks at the one I was just working on. I hold in my breath, hoping she doesnât notice the similarity to her father. She doesnât mention anything.
âYeah, Iâve been getting back into it.â I respond. She moves over to the painting where Ellie and I stand.
âYouâre really good.â I thank her. Itâs actually kind of exciting to see their reactions to my paintings. It feels as though Iâve regained a piece of me.
The girls look at the different paintings, commenting on the colors I used and debating on what is happening in each one. They both ask me if I can show them how to paint which I happily agree to, itâll be nice to share something with them the way our mom shared it with me.
When the girls are done assessing my work we go downstairs for breakfast. The girls hurry downstairs to start pulling out the ingredients for blueberry pancakes. I open the bedroom curtains before I go, letting the sunlight enter the room one more. When I leave the room, I keep the door open.

Since we've not done timeline for a while, here is my new one.
Luke and Nic realized their feelings during s3, but she decided that they should not go for it for many reasons at the time (it would be messing with their work, Polin feelings might bleed into their personal ones, his recent break up and not wanting to be a rebound. And her, being hurt many times before, wanted to be sure of his feelings and her own as well.). Tif timeline revealed that he was all over her at the end of the shooting and after. He was clearly in love, wanted to go for it.
So she suggested to take a break, but he took it as a rejection. He was already not in a good place after the break up with Jade. But most probably he kept it for himself. His ego took a hit and he started spiraling into HBS 1.
But his online flirting got vivid attention from the fandom, so he picked A from a dozen girls and settled for a while with her. She seemed nice, fit very well with R's new babe and the gang could go in their trips together.
Then in autumn they meet again for reshoots and he plays coy (he is resentful inside).
Then early 2024 they start meeting again with Nic and the Bton team for the WT and feelings resurface again. In the meantime he has this casual, pleasant something with A, his ego likes that this girl is very impressed by him. He knows he won't be around much during the WT, so he makes promises what will happen after, to keep her at bay and avoid tantrums. He is a people pleaser at his core.
Nic in the meantime probably also engages herself with a fling with Eamon. But she misses Luke, and seeing him with this one dimensional girl makes her upset. She did not think he will settle for somebody so soon. She also knows this is not serious for Luke, he is just silly with this girl. Probably feels the resentment from his side as well.
They start the WT, and feelings surface very soon. And tension too. Luke made promises to A to claim her properly in one way or another, but they can not do it bc of the Pr. His promises are binding him to A after the WT, but his feelings to Nic. He is totally conflicted and confused. Wants to do the right thing but can not, because either way, someone gets hurt.
But he is also angry with Nic for the break and the confusing situation with A, he blames Nic for the mess inside, plays petty and unavailable.
Here probably comes something from Nic's side. Maybe it's Eamon or somebody else (Jake is an option, maybe L does not know at that point what is JD to Nic), but he gets very tense and offended around Italy. They made up, some tension is released (maybe in bed, who knows) and they continue the WT with the peak of Brasil, where they literally can not hold on to pretend any longer. They look like they are on their honeymoon.
In the meantime and during the breaks Luke feels like shit, bc he was misleading Ant the whole time, not with malicious intention, but still.
He tells N that he can not leave A now, bc they have planned vacations and fashion week appearances together, which he promised to A a long time ago and he feels he can not undo it (peope pleaser, spineless golden retriever again).
Nic is mad, naturally. She did not waited during the break to hand over his man to a toilet twerker.
What happened during pap walk, is still a mistery, but my feeling is that he promised A he will acknowledge her at one point after the hints (NYE, Instyle) and this was his offer. He wanted to go for plausible deniability, so he didn't plan to hold her hand, which she sabotaged. He misread the room, the backlash was bigger then he anticipated.
Then they went to Milan, GQ and Sorrento, all programs planned ahead. He looks miserable all the time, because he is.
Nic probably freezes him, which ads to the misery. I think A doesn't really know what is going on, about Nic and him, and that he plans to break up with her at one point. He probably tells her that he is not ready or doesn't want a serious relationship right now, so they should keep it light and he helps her to kick off her influencer career. Which is a naive thought and it doesn't happen. The fandom is riled up because they picked up the signs of Lukola being in love and doesn't understand pap walk. They are harassing both of them and shit all over sm where they appear, which makes it difficult to make any deals with any brands.
You can see the signs Ant not being very satisfied how things turned out in Italy.
Nic is getting fed up, further freeze comes after some well pointed message, finally the "here, this is all yours" post to wake him up.
They might be on and off, he sits there while is getting ready for the Glam event.
JD goes everywhere with her, which makes Luke angry. They both need somebody at hand who is available all the time.
And from here, I don't have a clue.
Nic's silence shows she told him to get his shit together and take over fanservice for a while, also bc he needs redemption badly.
Back to shooting, back to some kind of a bubble...
This reads like a bad fanfic outline
I love it

It started after the war. The battle had been ruthless and barbaric; many lives were lost on both sides, heroes, villains, comrades, and civilians alike but in the end the hero's won. Shouto had helped bring an end to evil or so he had thoughtâŚThinking back on it, this is probably around the time the crazed look began to resurface in his fatherâs gaze. It probably had to do with his older brother coming back from the dead, only to almost die yet again trying to take Shouto down with him. Shouto had not died but was put into a medical coma since his injuries were so severe. He doesn't know what happened in the time he was asleep but when he finally awoke his father had begun to act strange .Â
They were given a mandatory semester off to take in the after effects of the war. During this time his father had been very accommodating, a little too accommodating if you asked Shouto. Anytime he needed anything his father was right there one step ahead. Whether it be feeding Shouto, helping him walk to the bathroom, carefully bathing him when he was too weak to do it himself, helping him with his physical therapy or simply fluffing his pillows. Shouto had allowed it, thinking maybe he was overcompensating for the past, he did say he would give him a chance so he sat back and allowed himself to be taken care of. Big mistake.Â
Soon he couldn't lift a spoon without his father there to fuss over him. He thought as the end of the semester neared and his physical therapy lulled to a stop, the man would stop his endless pampering. He was wrong . Even as his physical capabilities increased the man still insisted on helping him bathe, spoon feeding him as if he were a child, and tucking him into bed hours before his usual curfew. He doesn't know why but whenever the man is caring for him, his gaze is always so intense, eyes roaming Shoutoâs face like heâs looking for something. What heâs searching for, Shouto doesn't know. Maybe an indignant reaction or a bratty retort like the ones he used to spit at him before the war. Whatever it is heâs looking for, he never finds, his father always walks away disappointed. It makes the little part of him deep inside that still wishes for his fathers approval angry to think even when he is being civil heâs still not enough for his father.
When the last week of their mandatory break drew to a close, Shouto was more than ready to leave the suffocating house he was forced to call home. The tension in the house had been steadily rising each day with Shouto trying to avoid his fatherâs odd treatment and Enji breaking through any boundary the boy tried to put in place. It all came to a boiling point when his father caught him off guard, grabbing him unexpectedly as he was walking to his room after a particularly stifling dinner. And carrying him to his office to have a discussion, one week before he was supposed to go back to school.
âUgh what do you want now?â Shouto groaned as his father finally set him down onto a plush office chair, slapping away the hands gently carding through his hair.
âBehave Shouto, I brought you here to speak with you regarding your schooling not to fight. As I was saying, this fall you will not be returning to classes. Iâve made the decision to pull you out of school to focus on your health and well being.â Enji gently chided him, voice so soft and unlike anything he used to use before. The memories of harsh words and violent outbursts echoed in Shoutoâs mind reminding him to not fall for the act. His father may be trying to be âbetterâ but he will always be the same obsessive controlling man he once knew. Â
The boy scoffed. âMy health? Iâm fine now. I can go back to school just fine like everyone else.â It was true, the head injury he had received had healed and with regular stretching and exercise the scarring he received in his fight with his brother no longer bothered him. There was nothing left to heal.
âIâve already decided Shouto.â Tone leaving no room for argument, face stern but eyes staring at him so softly. It made him uncomfortable. Shouto didn't know how to deal with softness when it came to his father. Pummeling fists and demeaning words he could deal with but this: the kind loving stares and endless spoiling he had no clue what to do with. âThis is for your own good.â
His voice was a soft one as if he was placating a tantruming toddler; it only angered Shouto further. âI don't care what you think I need. You're not my only parent. If you won't let me go to school, then Iâll have mom help re-enroll me.â His mother was doing so much better and was currently being evaluated and prepped to be discharged. Soon sheâll be living on her own in her own home with Natsuo and Fuyumi. Heâs sure she wouldnât mind if he came to live with her instead.Â
His father's face saddened as it always did whenever he brought up his mother. âYour mother cannot make any decisions on your behalf considering her previous struggles with her mental health. She lost any legal rights over you due to the incident.â Issues he had caused with his selfishness and abuse.
The boy's face flushed in anger. He couldnât believe he was doing this again. He was so stupid to believe his father could ever change.âY-you can't do this to me! You have no right!â he yelled.
âI am your father. I have every right to make what I feel are the best choices for you. This is all in your best interest son. Iâm not trying to hurt you.â His arms reached forward, likely trying to pull him into a hug, but Shouto flinched away.Â
âWell it's not like that's ever bothered you before. When have you ever cared about hurting your children.â The boy hissed, dismissing himself quickly before his father got his hands on him again.

After their discussion life in the Todoroki home became tense more so than ever switching between constant screaming matches and cold silent treatment. Shouto doing his very best to avoid his fathers constant coddling and failing miserably resulting in more fights than he can count. It all came to a head the day he tried to leave, the day everything changed.Â
Shouto had woken up before sunrise for the first day back to classes. He figured if he got there early he could speak with Nedzu and figure something out, like possibly becoming a ward of UA. He had carefully put on his uniform as quietly as possible before sneaking to the entry way to slip on his shoes. He put his bag over his shoulder and gently opened the door, tensing when he felt a large hand land on his shoulder. He turned to see his father. He didn't know how someone so huge could be so silent on his feet to have snuck up on him.Â
âItâs early, you should go back to bed.â His fathers voice gruff voice sounded through the silent halls, still raspy from sleep. He was likely roused by some sort of alarm system Shouto had unknowingly tripped.Â
âNo, I'm going to school.â Shouto tried to stay firm despite the slight tremble going through his body. He canât stay in this house any longer. Everyday he spent here he could feel the life being drained out of him. He fears if he doesnât leave now heâll end up like his mother did. A mere shell of what she once was, living like a ghost in her own home before her mind shattered completely.Â
âWe've already discussed this Shouto, stop this foolishness.â His father let out a resigned sigh as moved him away from the door, having to pry his hands off the frame before closing it. âNow letâs get you out of this uniform and tucked back into bed.â Gently pushing him toward his bedroom, his grip still tight on his shoulder.Â
Shouto tried to pull himself out of his fathers hold yelling, âLet go of me!â, struggling harder as he used his other hand to land hits on his fatherâs wrist hoping to loosen his hold on him.
âPlease stop fighting! Shouto stop squirming!â Enji said in between hits, âWe do not hit others, Shouto! Stop it NOW!â The man accidentally raised his voice, reaching down for his son's other arm.Â
Shouto couldn't help the yelp that escaped his throat as his body automatically flinched back, freezing at the hand coming towards him too quickly. His dadâs face softened and he pulled him into a hug taking advantage of his frozen state and whispering gentle reassurances that he would never hurt him again. âHow about we spend the rest of the morning in my room? We can sleep in and have a nice big breakfast later, alright?â
It's asked like a suggestion but really it's an order, that is whatâs going to happen, Shouto has no choice in the matter. âOkay,â he responds, letting out a sad sigh as he is picked up and carried into his fathers bedroom. His uniform is shed and replaced with a soft pair of pajamas heâs never seen before. A soft pale gray footed sleeper with little white bunnies decorating the footies, a fluffy white belly, and fuzzy bunny ears on the hood. It oddly reminded him of something a infant would wear, his father looked strangely happy to see him in it. He shrugged it off, chalking it up to be more of his fathers strange new behavior and left it at that. Not bothering to argue, too devastated from being caught to think too hard about it.Â
As the anger fled his body all that was left behind was a deep sadness at the thought of what he will lose. All his friends heâs bonded with will move forward in their paths to become heroes and he will be left behind stuck in this house with no one but his father. His father pulls him close to his body resting his chin on top of his head cuddling him like a teddy bear when he begins to cry as if that would comfort him. He wonders if his father even cares about why heâs crying himself to sleep. If he didn't, it wouldn't be the first time he ignored his children's pain in favor of doing what he wants. He falls asleep dreading waking back up at all.Â

Then the next day his father had gone out briefly to consult with his doctors on a treatment plan for what exactly Shouto doesn't know. He feels fine but apparently something is still wrong since his dad arrived with a new medication prescribed specifically for him by his doctors. He said it was to prevent any latent negative effects to his brain, the head injury might have caused. He took the pill offered to him without further question.Â
He didnât notice the changes at first or his fatherâs underhanded plan at work. Looking back on it he should have been more suspicious of his fathers eager, almost giddy attitude whenever he took his âmedicineâ. Or the fact that every time he was given his daily dose of medication his father made sure to include a word that he now recognizes as a trigger. He didn't catch it at first but as time progressed and the dosage was upped the emphasis on the word became more overt and less subtle as the symptoms began to get stronger.Â
âItâs just a little pill, it shouldn't be too hard to swallow, â He took it, not much changed aside from him starting to feel a bit spacy and losing track of time.Â
âIt's just a couple more pills than usual Shouto. They're so little it shouldn't matter.â  He started to feel more tired in the day, often leading to his father putting him down for naps midday or else heâd find him sleeping in random spots around the house. His attention was also beginning to be drawn to the childish cartoons his father insisted on playing on the television for him. He had never paid attention to them before finding them boring but now he could hardly tear his eyes away.Â
âIt's time for your medicine, little boy.â  He began to stumble both on his words and his feet. Big words made his tongue feel heavy and his mouth syrupy, unable to move in a way necessary for complex speech. Instead of fighting through the thick fog to speak normally he found himself adjusting to broken speech and foggy state of mind. When he became frustrated with his unsteady steps and wobbly legs his father was quick to suggest a solution. âMaybe it would be easier if you crawled? There's less risk of serious injury if you fall when you are closer to the ground,â he said as if it was the most obvious choice in the world. The pills made him more vulnerable to suggestion and easier to accept changes without noticing the oddity of what was being asked. Soon it was second nature for him to crawl around when he began to feel small.
âItâs time to be little , Shouto.â He doesn't know how long it's been but Daddy hasn't been giving him medicine anymore. With only a word the fuzziness invades his mind, reducing him into nothing more than a helpless child. Logic and complex thought are thrown out the window along with his fine motor skills. He finds simple things so much more painful and his emotions feel so much stronger. Tears are seemingly always leaking from his eyes followed by wails for his Daddy. But as easily as he is hurt, he is quick to forgive and forget, his little self is quite endeared with his father. Always reaching for Daddy to be picked up or cuddled, happy to play and indulge his Papaâs every whim. Or getting upset when his father leaves, whether to use the bathroom or make dinner. He finds himself tearing up wishing for his Daddy to come back, missing the man despite him being just down the hall. It was irrational illogical butâŚsomehow his father has managed to turn him into a sort of ghost of the past. Heâs managed to bring out the child he once hurt and use him against Shouto.
By the time he had broken out of the trance and realized the word was what was triggering the fuzzy childlike state of mind, it was too late. He had already been trained. As soon as his father says the word, he doesnât want to fight back any more. His little self doesnât want to leave. He likes the new father, the kind father, the never violent father. He had been fooled.
What's worse is, heâs found that his mind is beginning to revert to that little headspace on its own. Whenever he is stressed or in pain heâll regress back to that childlike state of mind even without his father around to initiate it. Heâll go back to being that naive dumb little boy, vulnerable and longing for a family that has long since left him behind.
His inner child is too trusting and helpless; his father doesnât deserve to handle this part of him, especially not like this. Not when the only reason he got to see it at all was by betraying his trust and forcing him out. He should have never trusted in his father. He never realized how far his father would go to keep him trapped under his control until he didâŚ
It had been during one of the rare moments that his father allowed him to be big, that he caught a glance at the date on his fatherâs phone screen. He had forgotten it on his bedside table while putting him down for a nap. Shouto had grabbed it, meaning to return it to his father when the screen lit up automatically. Then he saw it. Six months had passed. âNo it can't be.â he thought to himself shocked. It felt like just last week he had been trying to sneak out for the first day of school. Thereâs no way this could be right. Is this why his father had forbidden his electronics? Why he had any and all clocks removed from the house? The reason he couldn't watch any news? His body trembled as he clutched the device tightly in his hand. Rage lit his body as he heard heavy footsteps walking back towards his room.Â
âShouto baby, have you seen myââ Enji froze as he took in his sonâs stormy expression looking down at the device in his hand. âAh, I guess we're doing this today.â he thinks to himself. It's a bit sooner than he expected but his baby has always managed to surpass his expectations so he shouldnât be too surprised. It's alright he can work with this, though it is down to Shouto which route he takes. He hopes he chooses the path of least resistance but alas his baby has never known what's good for him.
âIs it true? Have I really been stuck here for half a year?â his father nodded in a nonchalant manner, seeming unbothered by his discovery. If that was true, how long has his father been on leave? There's no way the commission would allow him, The Number One Hero, to put off work for six consecutive months. And how come no one has reported they haven't seen Shouto in months. He knows he doesnât have that wide of a social circle like most kids his age but surely someone must have noticed. Why hasn't anyone come to save him? What lies has his father been feeding everyone?
âWhyâwhy would you do this?â Shouto asked dumbfounded because how deranged of a person do you have to be to brainwash your own child?! He knew his father was a bad man but this⌠The man may have truly lost his mind.
His father simply answered, voice smooth and unperturbed, âIt was for your own good.âÂ
âMy own good?â The boy scoffed, â How could stripping away my autonomy be for my own good! How could making me a prisoner of my own mind be good for me?! Huh? How dad! How could that ever be good for me!â his voice steadily rose with each remark until he was shouting at his father though the man remained unfazed. His expressionless face was beginning to piss Shouto off.
âYou wouldnât have stayed any other way.â Nothing about the manâs body language showed a hint of remorse. He doesnât care what Shouto wants. He never has.
âOf course I wouldnât! I never wanted to be here! You knew I wanted to go back to UA. Just how long did you plan on keeping me here!â Shouto screamed, before going quiet as a chilling thought crossed his mind. âIf I hadn't caught on would you have ever let me go back?âÂ
â...âÂ
âAnswer me dammit!â He was met with the silence, his fathers slack face and seemingly bored expression was enough of an answer.Â
âYou never changed, you're still the same controlling bastard you've always been. I was a fool to ever believe in you.â Tears of frustration welled up in heterochromatic eyes. Everything felt so big and out of his control. If he doesn't get his emotions under control soon he may slip back into his headspace. Itâs game over if that happens.Â
âMy my youâre being quite fussy, you'll upset your stomach at this rate. We can have a talk after you've calmed down and had your nap. You'll feel better once you've slept a bit.â His father's face softened and voice returned to a gentle coo. It was like he could sense he was slipping and was trying to push him over the edge.Â
Both sides of the boy lit up with flames and frost as he yelled. âStop it! Stop with your wretched coddling! Stop acting like Iâm a child! I've had enough! You canât take away the life I've built just because you want a chance to right your wrongs. What's done is done, you can't change the past! You can't change me, I won't allow it! I donât care if I have to fight you, I'm leaving!â Â
âShouto please you canât go you're too liâ â
âShut up!â he screamed, shooting spikes of ice towards his father knocking him off his feet. Encasing him in ice up to his nose leaving only enough space to breathe before kicking him in the head effectively knocking him out. He hurried out the bedroom encasing every door and corridor in ice on his way out to buy as much time as he could. He ran, wasting no time in changing out of his pajamas, only slipping on his shoes and running out of the house. He needed to find his mother.

The treatment really was working. He had been skeptical of the method at first but it truly was a miracle. Shouto will be the key to bringing his family back together. Soon his little boy will be reborn into the perfect baby, happy to be loved and cherished forever. If all things go according to plan heâll have his family back in his pocket and a little one to adore. He'll have to call Kiego back later to thank him for all his help.
In the meantime he spent his time methodically melting the ice and cleaning up the place at a leisurely pace giving his son some time to run before he properly hunts him down. This is all a lesson for his own good afterall. If Enji really wanted to, he could have ended the fight the moment he entered the room by activating his conditioning but he didn't. Shouto needs to learn that he can never run from his father, on his own. He needs his spirit to be broken so no further attempts to distance himself from Enji can be made. Afterall Enji is only doing what's best for him. He just wants to care for his baby and love him like he never had before.
It took him seeing Shouto lying comatose in a hospital bed too big for him to realize the truth. He never wants to see his son on the battlefield ever again. He never wants to see him in hero garb fighting for his life or using that wretched quirk again. The future he had planned for him and the method of his creation had all been a mistake. Hero work wasn't safe for his baby. Because that's what Shouto is, his youngest baby. And he needs to protect him now unlike how he failed in the past. If only the boy would stop trying to run away.
Well if this is how the boy wants to play then Enji is happy to play along. He kept on his damp clothes even tearing them up in some places and finished applying his makeup before slipping on his house slippers before walking out the door.Â
He hopes Shouto understands that he will never have another chance to run so he better get all that energy out of him now and realize heâll never be able to escape his Daddy.

Shouto sniffed in his seat quietly letting out the last of his sobs as he watched the scenery rapidly change through the train's window. He felt the adrenaline from the altercation with his father slowly fading away leaving him tired and drained. He wiped away his tears with a handkerchief a kind old lady had given him two stops ago. It was pink with fluffy little bunnies hopping along the border. He wishes he were a little bunny, free to run and play with his bunny friends and be with his bunny family without a terrifying wolf constantly looming over them.Â
The train car jostled, signaling it was coming to a stop. He shook off the childish train of thought and fuzziness beginning to creep into his mind. His mind was slipping but he couldnât afford to lose focus now, he had to go see his mother. He walked out into the crowded station making his way towards the steps leading up to the exit. The hospital his mother is staying in is only a thirty minute walk from the station. If he runs he can get there in ten. He makes his way through the sea of people not caring who he was bumping into or listening to them cry out after him. He didnât notice a familiar head of green hair looking his way.Â
The run to the clinic wasn't a long one but it felt unbearable. He hasn't exercised in such a long time. His lungs were burning, his throat ached thirsting for water, and his legs were already cramping. Usually a little run like this would be a breeze but thanks to his fatherâs constant babying heâs hardly walked in months let alone ran. By the time he made it to the hospital he was panting and dripping with sweat. âI definitely did not make it here in ten minutes. Iâll need to work extra hard to get back into shape once I get back in schoolâ, he huffed in thought as he pushed open the door leaning on it to catch his breath for a minute before walking up to the service desk.Â
An emotion Shouto canât quite discern flickered over the nurseâs face for a moment as she took in his appearance before returning to a polite smile. âHello there, how can I help you?âÂ
âI need to see my mother, her name is Todoroki Rei. The matter is urgent. If you could give me clearance quickly it would be very much appreciated.â he said through harsh breaths, cheeks flush from physical exertion.Â
âAlright, one second let me pull up your records. Your name is?â
âTodoroki Shouto.âÂ
âAlrightyâŚhmm,â the nurse's brows furrowed, staring at the computer screen before asking. âWould you mind answering some quick questions for me first Todoroki-kun?Â
âPlease keep it brief. I need to see my mother,â Shouto answered tersely. He had no time to waste who knows how long his father will stay unconscious. He needs to act fast.
âAlright now what is the reason for your visit?â
âI need to speak to my mother regarding my schooling and fatherâs behavior.â Thatâs putting it briefly. He needs to tell her how that man had been brainwashing him and keeping him prisoner for months now. And to apply for custody and get him out or tell Fuyumi or Natsuo to try. He doesnât care who it is, living with any of them would be better than his Father.
âAnd how did you get here? Did you come here all by yourself?âÂ
âYes I took the train.â Do they ask everyone their mode of transportation when visiting?
âAlright and does anyone know that you're here right now?â
âNo. Are we done yet? Can I go see my mother now?â He knows hasnât visited in a while but these questions seem odd.Â
âSorry sweetie, just one more question, okay?âÂ
âFine,â the boy snapped, beginning to feel irritated. While he knows this particular hospital typically is for high profile patients usually heroes, celebrities, politicians and their families alike. Heâs never been interrogated like this. Usually they just ask for his name, check his file, and let him through. Heâs never had this much trouble before.
âYou said there was an issue with your father, who is listed as your primary guardian. What is it?â
âHeâs been acting insane. He locks me away in our home and wonât let me go to school. He keeps treating me like a child and wonât listen to me when I tell him to stop. Heâs awful. I want to come live with my mom instead.â Why is she looking at him like that? OhâŚoh no. He knows that look. She's looking at him the same way his father does, like heâs helpless and in need of protection.Â
âOh honey but you are a child and judging from your file a very sick one who's been through a lot. How about we call up your Daddy and see what he has to say about all this okay?â The nurse's tone was both condescending and sickeningly sweet just like his father. Dammit sheâs not taking him seriously.
âNo! You canât call him! Heâs crazy, heâll lock me back up again!â Shouto begged her to listen. âPlease, I don't want him to come get me.â
âIt's alright honey, I'm just going to make a quick call. Have a seat in the meanwhile.â No. He canât just wait here to be caught. If the nurse didnât believe him, maybe the police would. Heâll just have to take that chance.Â
Shouto ran to the exit and pushed the doors but no matter how hard he tried they would not open. They had been locked remotely. He looked back to see the nurse eyeing him sympathetically before tapping her headset and saying. âHey I got a child of a patient expressing very concerning behavior. His file contains multiple illnesses and injuries within the last year. [It states the patient is incompetent, experiences PTSD, Delusions, Paranoia, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Panic Disorder, Depression, Antisocial Personality Disorder, etc] It states that the child is both a danger to himself and others and is in constant need of supervision. Heâs down here alone showing signs of delusion. I need security down here now to help restrain him while I call up his family.â
âNo please you donât understand. If he catches me, Iâll never see the light of day again.â Shouto pleaded but all the nurse did was put a finger up to her mouth and made a light shushing noise at him as she dialed the number into the phone.Â
He tried to use his ice to weaken the doors but for some reason his frost would not stick, it would slip right off the door. The windows wouldnât shatter either; they were both likely quirk proof. He could start a fire and force the staff to evacuate everyone and escape during the chaos. But it felt wrong to cause stress to already sick patients staying in the hospital, especially when his mother is one of them.Â
Lost in thoughts of escape he didnât notice the security guards barreling towards him until he felt strong hands locking around his waist pulling him away from the exit. He struggled and fought against the burly man's hold, kicking and screaming "Let me go!â. But the man held him still, sitting down on one of the chairs and folded him onto his lap while another guard forced Shoutoâs arms behind his back and wrapped quirk restraints around his wrists and another set on his ankles. Then sat him on his own chair to wait for his father, each still keeping a firm grip on one of his arms.Â
Soon enough his father was bursting through the clinic's doors eyes scanning the waiting room before zeroing in on him. He looked like he had been beaten and dragged through a storm. His clothes were damp and ragged, likely from breaking himself out of the ice though that didn't explain the injuries. Where did he get that black eye and busted lip from? Shouto certainly hadnât given it to him. He struggled against his bonds harder as he walked towards him, picking him up and quietly thanking the guards.Â
He tried to buck out of his hold but the look his father shot at him sent shivers up his spine and made him go still. That look promised hell when they went back home. Heâs known that look since childhood it meant âbehave while we're in public or Iâll make you wish you were dead. He stayed quiet as his father followed the nurse he was speaking with earlier to a private office. The paper crinkled underneath him as he was placed in the treatment chair, his father sat across from him on a waiting chair, while the nurse sat on her desk turning on the monitor..
âThank you so much for calling me. Iâve been looking everywhere for him.â He heard his father tell the nurse. He couldn't believe she couldn't see the smug satisfaction radiating off the man under the overly fake concerned look on his face.Â
âYour welcome, I noticed the changes in his chart and knew he was not supposed to be here on his own. He ended up making quite the scene trying to leave before you arrived and had to be retrained for his own safety.â What? What changes is she talking about? He shifted to glance at the monitor but couldn't quite move the way he wanted in the restraints.
âI am so sorry about him, we had an argument this morning and he got a bit violent. He knocked me straight off my feet. I must've hit my head on the way down because when I woke up hours later, he was gone. Iâve been running all over the city looking for him.â Enji said, putting a hand behind his neck as if he were embarrassed. In his pajamas with messy hair and bags under his eyes. The man looked like nothing more than a disgruntled dad. The nurse was already eating the act up and eyeing him with pity as if Shouto was the real problem here, not his father.Â
âOh how terrible! Does he usually have violent outbursts?âÂ
âHe does but itâs not his fault. The commission should have never allowed the students to help aid in battle. His brain suffered serious damage from the fight that will affect him for the rest of his life. Ever since heâs been having trouble taking in his surroundings and remembering that he's no longer fighting. He has no way to distinguish reality from his delusions and often confuses myself and others for villains.â Enji spoke gravely, eyes glistening as if what he was saying were true.Â
âStop lying! Iâm not crazy! Heâs lying! Tell her the truth!â Shoutoâs shouting was ignored; they spoke over him like he wasnât even there.Â
âOh dear, that is very concerning. Is he currently being treated for these issues? Why isnât she listening? Why canât she see heâs lying?
âYes, heâs currently out of school to be treated.â His father answered, sounding exhausted.Â
âHe mentioned something about needing to see his mother and his schooling.âÂ
âYes he has a certain delusion where he believes his mother is in danger and only he can save her. He most likelyââ
âStop it! Tell the truth! Tell her! Say it you damn liar!â He felt like he was going to burst a blood vessel as he screamed. Why is no one listening to him? Why does no one else ever see the man for what he truly is? A monster, a wolf in sheep's clothing. Why can no one ever see past the word hero?
âOh no the poor dear is becoming quite hysterical, would you like me to administer a mild sedative to quiet him down?âÂ
âThat would be great, thank you.â His father answered with a bone tired sigh, that even he would believe if he didnât see the corners of his lips quirking up as the nurse turned around to prepare the medication.Â
âAlright itâll just feel like a little pinch. Iâm sure a big boy like you can handle that right?â
âNo stop please! I donât want that!â He flinched as he felt the needle piercing his skin.Â
âThere there, youâll start feeling better in a minute sweetheart.â
âN-nothing w-rongâŚwiât me.â Shouto slurred, trying his best to stay awake. Who knows what else his father may start lying about.Â
âOne more thing Iâd like to touch on before you leave today is his quirk usage. We noticed in an attempt to escape he tried to use his quirk on multiple occasions against the facility's doors and windows. Thankfully they are reinforced with quirk suppressing technology and we had cuffs on hand for particularly powerful patients but it would have been a very difficult situation if we didn't. Controlling his power output would be very helpful to prevent more accidents like this one from occurring. Modern suppressants are fairly low risk and come in chewable tablets for children or neck cuff form. I would really recommend them for your son.âÂ
âNoâŚno morâ..m-medâcinâ...â Ignored once again. They were treating him like he was a pet that was too dumb to comprehend the conversation so they didn't bother trying to speak with him. Will everyone treat him like this? As soon as he speaks out against his father will they turn against him and treat him like a dumb pet too? âWill anyone ever believe him?â
âIâll take both. I've been trying to get him on suppressants for a while now but his primary doctor kept insisting his behavior didnât warrant them. Thank you so much for listening to me.â Why do they always listen to him?
âOf course! I just have to take off these cuffs now and switch them out for his necklace and he should be good to go.â Shouto tried to move once he felt the cuffs being removed but his body felt like it was full of lead, everything felt so heavy he could hardly wriggle his toes let alone lift an arm. He couldnât fight against the sleek metal collar being placed around his neck clicking into place in a way he knew meant it had been locked.
âIâll send over that prescription to your nearest pharmacy and they should call you when it's ready to be picked up. If that's all you can go ahead and take him home. Have a good day!â
âThank you so much for your help. Weâll be off now.â Enji carried the limp boy out of the room walking through the halls towards the exit quite pleased with himself.
âH-heâ crazyâŚdonât wanâa go! D-donâ let..hâmâŚtake m-me!â Shouto slurred one last call before the doors closed. Urging someone, anyone to help him, to come save him. As usual his call was ignored as it had been his entire life.Â
âThey wonât believe you Shouto. Do you want to know why? Because who would ever believe a sick little boy over the Number One Hero? Itâs your word against mine. And your word means nothing . It never has and it never will.â Enji whispered into his ear, shushing his son softly as he began to cry. Soft cries turned into wails as he slipped into headspace.Â
âOh baby mine don't you cry. Daddy loves you so much.â His father cooed, patting him gently on the back while rocking him side to side. To everyone else in the hospital he just seemed like a caring father doting on his poor sick son, none of them could see the unhinged glint in his eye or hear the crazed tone of obsession in his voice. âWe'll be going home soon.â The place where you will stay once and for all.
