thibault was born in canada. they had a very big family and the house was always insanely busy and loud and they HATED it and they HATED the country they lived in (idk much about cyberpunk canada so i'm still working on all of this a little bit LMFAO) so tl;dr they managed to move south and ended up in night city

he was still like. fairly young when he moved, didn't get to finish high school and also didn't feel like doing so anymore LMAO so he just tried to find work and jumped around town for a while trying really hard to get settled in somewhere but it wasn't really working out too well :( he didn't know anyone in town and had BIIIG trust issues so it wasn't easy to make friends or like. stay in touch with the people who he DID eventually let in

at some point he became a doll at clouds because he kinda ended up getting shady jobs at shady businesses and. well. this was one of them :(( he knew what he was signing up for but didn't care all that much, he really just needed some stability in his life and as fucked up as the place was at least it was able to provide him that

xe met mikhail long before the in-game events! mikhail quit his job after refusing the kang tao job offer and he moved to japantown, into the megabuilding where clouds is. that's where he met thibault and he helped xem get out of there and get settled in <3 they actually lived together for a few weeks until thibault could get xyr own place but xe and mikhail kept very close contact, mainly because thibault was at that point still kind of figuring out how like. life works basically LMAO and mikhail helped xem with all of that <33

thibault became a little bit too dependent on mikhail during that time and he kinda felt a bit bad for it, to the point he wanted to kind of. thank mikhail for it. but he wasn't really sure how to do this :// tried to offer him some Fun Times but mikhail politely declined and thibault kinda went "ok. well. that's all i have to offer so i guess i'll just die then" because he felt like he needed to Offer something to others to Have Worth :( mikhail at that point also still felt like that so he wasn't really able to help thibault drop that mindset. i'm biting them both

BUT mikhail continued to help thibault for another while and thibault did kind of feel some sort of attraction to him, though to this day they're unsure what exactly was causing it. but then mikhail started working for arasaka and eventually got relocated and reunited with vitali and he kinda just. stopped talking to thibault a bit. they ended up growing apart to the point they just completely lost contact and thibault was very upset about it :( understandably so LMFAO

at that point they had enough knowledge to be able to stand on their own legs and stuff but they did really miss mikhail because they didn't have anyone else. once again. because if they were to try and reach out to the other dolls at clouds they'd probably be brought back in again and they really did NOT want to do that :// so instead they picked up the mercenary life <3

thibault just kinda jumped from fixer to fixer for a while trying to like. find people who xe vibed with and who xe could trust but. every merc was kind of just there for themself so xe never stayed for long :( xe really wanted to do something about clouds and the whole situation (like judy during the in-game events) but wouldn't be able to do that alone so xe was looking for people who would be willing to help

and THAT is what brings us to vitali >:) he gets fired and becomes a fixer and thibault eventually ends up on his doorstep for gigs and he meets cool people there (i haven't really determined in what order the clown brigade starts working for vito but i do like to think eddie is already there) and decides to stick around <3 but of course mikhail is also there so naturally thibault is. not very happy to see him at first LMFAO

but at the same time it's nice in a way because thibault did really miss him. there'd be some hostility between them at first and thibault is a bit upset still that mikhail just kinda left him for vitali but now they're both just. working for vitali. so like. what can you do about it LMAO and then he also gets an Actual crush on mikhail for a while (while he's still trying to be >:( at him so that's interesting) so yeah he's going through some stuff </3 SGHFDGDFH

during the in-game events, when vincent goes to take over clouds with judy, mikhail and thibault also join them >:) and later in the story, the tyger claws start to get annoying again so then they decide to shut down clouds entirely and the dolls and other employees are offered stable and safe jobs at vitali's nightclub! this is something that happens in the future though, after the broker chapter at some point LMAO but yeah from that moment on thibault will probably also work in the nightclub a lot more to hang out with his friends from clouds :)

thibault hasn't shown their face much in the broker chapter mainly because they're more stealthy than anything else and thus far. there's not a lot of stealth in the broker chapter LMAO but i'm hoping to be able to write them in at some point!! i love them very very much, they're besties with cato and eddie and thibault + cato + vincent is like a new level of chaos that i REALLY wanna write about one day LMFAO

finding a door in the penthouse you were currently staying at was almost fun for you. you were just messing around at that point, believing you would be able to leave after a while. that was in the beginning. when everything seemed to be fine.

now, almost half a year later, you wanted out. you wanted to see your family again. you wanted to go outside again. it was getting tiring of sitting in the same room all day being watched by 16 different people. it was stupid and you didn’t want to be there anymore.

so, when you returned to that penthouse, you made sure to be on your best behavior. you were stupid enough to not go in, you weren’t going to make the same mistake this time.

when mercy was distracted and the guards weren’t around, you made your way towards the secret door you remembered. you hoped it hadn’t been moved. by some miracle, you didn’t get caught on your way there, and you also were surprised to see the door still there: hiding behind that bookshelf with that weird pattern.

how did you open it again? you tried to remember how you did it before. 2 red books next to eachother... one about radiation... one was the odessy... and finally, one that was titled, “The Biography Of Lex Luthor”. of course he would have a book about him in his office. 

when the door finally opened, you saw a long stairway downwards. it was longer then you expected, but you went down anyways. hearing the large door lock shut made you feel a little worried, but spite only kept you going. you were sure that they were looking for you now: it would only be a matter of time before they found you and dragged you back.

you wanted to see what was at the end of this stairway. however, as you neared the bottom, you started to realize that the door was almost never used.

lex almost always wanted the stairways to be cleared of anything: you would never see any dust or dirt on them. however, these had more dust then you had ever seen before. it was like they had never opened this in years.

when you reached the bottom, you saw that there was a large opening, and some areas with little alcoves in them, for people to sit in. you would have to assume they were like a checkpoint.

however, they also looked like they hadn’t had any use in a long time at least. it was rare to see in a place as luxurious as this.

jumping over the old door system was easy. now you just had to figure out what this place was. 

from the looks of it, it looked like a lab. there was large containment tubes place all over the area, along with computers, wires, beds that looked like they were meant t restrain someone. most of the restraints were broken. they looked to go from leather to metal, and yet, almost all of them were broken: completely destroyed by something.

you continued to walk towards the end of the corridor, and when you reached the it, you were surprised to see the end.

there, at the very end of the lab, was a large tub containing a grown man. he looked to be about 20, and he was almost 6 feet tall. probably more.

it glowed against the dark room, and while looking around, you saw a clipboard filled with notes against one of the beds.

you picked it up, and read a blacked out name. whoever wrote this apparently didn’t want it traced back to them.

as you read along, most of the notes were blacked out. in fact, almost all of the pages had black text around them.

however, on the last page, there was a completely filled out note. it was obviously handwritten, and you tried to make it out as best as you could.

To whomever is reading this, I hope it is not you, Luthor. To think you could do these things to a child: What about the one you own? Do not tell me you don’t own her, we both know that you just keep her for selfish reasons. You want a daughter, and you think you can just take up any child from the street. She wasn’t from the street, I know that. Anyway, that is not why I’m writing this letter. I am writing it for the fact that I have decided to disobey your order on terminating kon: or, K. I know he will reach the age we want him to in only a few months, maybe even weeks, but I will not have the burden to kill a child placed on any of these people. 2. How often do you do things just for the attention?

Lei: Never! I’m a very serious guy! Ok, but sometimes someone’s gotta break the ice, right? And if people think I’m funny at the same time, I’m taking that as a win. And other times, you ever met some pencil pusher who’s all “Lei, dinosaurs are extinct” well no shit, they’re extinct, but they could come back, it’s not that wild an idea, anyway yeah, those guys – sometimes I lay it on a bit thick just for the attention. They don’t believe my theories anyway, so sometimes I ramp it up and add in all sorts just so they have something to go home and tell their boring wide-eyed friends.

7. What is the one thing people assume about you that you wish was true?

Lei: When they hear ‘Supercop’ they seem to think I must be a really well adjusted guy with a neat schedule – like the perps just drop in to see me and stick handcuffs on themselves. Damn I wish that were true. I’m dead on my feet cracking cases, absolutely terrible company, can’t go five minutes without talking work. It totally trashed all my attempts at stable relationships. I wished I was the supercop who winds up in the press statements. He seems like such a chill guy.

45. What accusation would you defend yourself most fiercely against, even though you know it’s true?

Lei: I never killed my old partner. His choices killed him, organised crime killed him, his own greed killed him, the city killed him. Was still the gun in my hand though.

54. What is the most ridiculous thing you’ve done to please people?

Lei: Ah, I have to please bigwigs every week. You wouldn’t believe the kinda stuff I’ve had to say just to be able to get on and do my work. The most ridiculous though, huh let me think. It’s actually so that I can try and crack one of my oldest cases. The bosses were threatening to finally put a nail in it unless I got new leads. So to please them I had to get a little creative. Do you know about idols? So there’s this lass who dresses as a cat and dances and she does this for G Corp. I don’t understand how it helps G Corp, maybe it just takes media attention away from them, like you see a cat and forget a human rights violation or something? Anyway I researched idol culture and watched hundreds of internet videos and learned song lyrics and dance moves, I even have a pair of cat ears, like on a headband. I even kinda like the music now, y’know? I think I might have actually brainwashed myself. But yeah, this idol is definitely gonna be how I finally get in close to Mishima Kazuya’s business. Might even be that Bruce Irvin’s still there too. So that’s pretty up their with ridiculous things I’ve done.

72. How often do you say no to the things that make your skin crawl?

Lei: I got lines I try not to cross, even when people on the inside are pushing you to cut corners. I been in Interpol a long time, and if you knew what Hong Kong was like before things were cleaned up a bit, you’d know there was practically no one who wasn’t owned by somebody. That was never me. Never my scene. But that made me a lot of other enemies and then there’s a whole lot of everything else to navigate. Politics in the office kind of thing. There’s not many things I’ve compromised on, and I’ve had to say no to a lot. All my regrets are mostly spur of the moment things… or just my lifestyle in general… Yeah. It was never the idealism that gave me a problem, it was just me being me.

Ah, my two hyperactive spoons. Usually I’m all about the “perfect angel/literal spawn of satan” dynamic, but for some reason they never really clicked for me. Maybe it’s because they didn’t have that many interactions in canon??? But damn, the fanarts are super adorable!! i will die!! (death star shippers yall wanna come in my askbox and talk death star to me?? i would appreciate sm!!)

First of all I wanna say, y’all Wandering Eye shippers are perseverant af?? they had like one episode together and it was early first season, it’s been a lot since that. i respect you guys. THIS SHIP HAS SO MUCH COMIC POTENTIAL!!! I WILL SCREAM FOREVER I mean the angry smol and bastard tol dynamic?? PLUS theyre both villains???? as in evil fucks??? Who are also rivals?? If there were any canon interactions this ship would DEF be really high on my list but I don’t really have that much to say rn...

7) Zboneak (Hater x Sylvia)

Alright at first I wasn’t really into it but I got my filthy hands on one (1) fanfic and you can bet your ass I was immediatly captivated. The thing I look for in Woy ships is comic potential and these two have SO MUCH POTENTIAL. Plus, “The Date” is one of my favorite episodes ever, so yeah. add that to the list. Let them interact in season 3!!!

6) Death Glare (Peepers x Hater)

Ok so, Death Glare. At first, until late first season, I wasn’t into it at all. I’ve never been a big fan of boss/subordinate (saving a few exceptions). THESE TWO WHERE DO I EVEN START. I literally tear up when I think about them? Platonic or not, their love is so pure, innocent, real, it makes my heart do backflips. You have no idea how many times I cried watching them. When they’re together you can’t tell where one begins and the other finishes .... but the reason why I’m so attached to them is because I happen to have a person in my life that... she’s the Sylvia to my Wander (hey @awesome---disaster talkin to you).  I understand how it feels to have someone this important in your life. The episode “The Ryder” is particularly hard to wacth (despite it being my number one favorite) for this reason. GOD THE TEARS I CRIED.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Vang0 Bang0 paces the wet pavement of a deserted street. The grey steel buildings looming high overhead. Between the smog and the storm clouds brewing overhead it might as well have been nighttime. Vang0 wasn’t concerned with the scenery though. Instead he was breathing deeply, blinking furiously to hold back the hot tears clouding his vision.

Why are you even so upset? You knew this wouldn’t go anywhere, he thought bitterly. It didn’t help.

It doesn’t matter. Just another dead end in a string of false leads. He contemplates calling for a cab but he didn’t want some stranger to see him on the verge of a panic attack. Wouldn’t be good for his image… Before he can think too much about it he calls Burger Chainz. Tries to make himself sound normal as he asks for a ride. Burger doesn’t ask questions just tells Vang0 he’ll be there.

Vang0 sits down right in the middle of the sidewalk, not a person in sight. He runs his manicured hands over his face. Wills himself to not let this be a big deal. Wills himself to ignore the pain and the disappointment. He closes his eyes, some stray tears leak down his cheeks and he quickly brushes them away. He tries to separate himself from these feelings, this moment, this lifetime, to make himself an observer. Capable of locking this shit down and tucking it away. It’s not working out.

It’s practically no time before Burger’s van rolls to a stop at the curb. Wordlessly, Vang0 gets in and keeps his head downturned. There’s a nondescript acoustic track playing at such a low volume it takes Vang0 a minute to realize what the noise is. He can feel Burger’s eyes on him for a moment before the van pulls away.

Burger and Vang0 are close, really close, maybe an abnormal amount based on what Dasha said(not that Vang0 has a great frame of reference). But they don’t talk about real stuff. Not as a rule, it’s just never been something they do. And after Burger hadn’t pressed him for details on the phone Vang0 just thought this would be another thing they pretend to forget. 

Burger didn’t seem to have the same idea.

“You want to, ah, tell me what’s going on?”

Vang0 just stayed silent.

Burger continued casually, “Why were you all the way out here by yourself?”

For a minute, Vang0 thinks about just ignoring him. Pretending to be too caught up in his thoughts or too much of an asshole to respond. But he sees Burger glance at him, earnest, concern plain on his face and thinks if anyone deserves an explanation, it’s him.

“I thought I had a lead. About me. Turned out to be nothing. It was dumb anyway, I don’t know why I thought I’d find anything.”

He stares straight forward as he speaks struggling to keep his tone neutral, not let his stupid emotions leak through.

“You coulda told me you’d found something. I woulda come with you.”

Vang0 can’t stop the small, bitter laugh that escapes him, “I didn’t find anything. It was a dead end. Months, I spent months researching this shit. Most of what I found was useless and anything useful turned out to be a dead end. This was the one thing that seemed like it might have a chance of being real. Of course it wasn’t.”

“I didn’t know you were looking into this stuff.”

“I don’t even know why I am. Or was. It’s- it’s stupid I should just move on I’m obviously not going to figure out anything about who I was or why someone did this to me…”

Burger was quiet for a moment, “Didn’t think you cared that much about that stuff.”

“I don’t want. I just do. It’s like- I don’t know who I used to be but I miss them? Sometimes I don’t even feel like I’m a whole person. Like I’m not quite real. Or maybe I was never real in the first place. I don’t know…”

Vang0 squeezed his eyes shut, forcing his eyes to stop welling. There’s a hollow silence that surrounds them briefly, it could be seconds or hours, it’s agonizing.

“What was it?” Burger asks, “The lead.”

Vang0 brushes at his bangs, eyes tracking the passing streetlights for a moment before he responds, “Cosmetics shop. Underground. Not legally sanctioned. No public records of patients but from what I found their clientele is pretty upscale. Figured someone who powerful enough to wipe a memory clean wouldn’t just half-ass it.”

“Oh,” Burger said, looking at him again, that annoying concerned look still on his face, “You never…”

Vang0 shrugs, “I can’t know for sure. ‘S just a feeling. It’s like, sometimes when I look in the mirror I don’t recognize myself. Like this isn’t my face, even though it’s the only one I’ve ever known. I look at it and I just know that’s not me. And I get startled like I’m wearing a mask I can’t take off. Even if I could… Who would I be? I mean, who am I without what they made me? Don’t even know if I am anything.”

He rubs a hand over his face, “This probably doesn’t even make sense. But it’s sort of like my skin doesn’t fit right and I know that but everything else is a big blank spot. I wish I could just let it go and move on but I can’t. I need to find out what happened but there’s no trail. As if I just blinked into existence in that warehouse.”

The car had stopped. How long had the car been stopped? Burger had a soft look in his eye as he listened. Now that he’d started talking he felt like he couldn’t stop though he desperately wanted to. Vang0 wanted to bury this deep down and ignore it. Lock it away until it disappeared. Didn’t want to have to talk about this. He hated the vulnerable feeling in his chest and how every word he spoke felt like it was cutting him open. But he couldn’t stop.

“I’d spent months looking and found nothing. And then I had this lead. This one lead. And I knew better than to get my hopes up but I did anyway. Everything I’d found about that place felt like it was leading to something and I wanted to believe so badly that it was. Whole way there, my heart was beating out of my chest. And when I finally got there? It was empty. The place just wiped clean. Like it had been empty for years. ‘Spent two hours looking around for anything, searched nearly the entire building and got nothing.”

Vang0 didn’t realize he was crying again until a tear fell on his arm, startling him. He rubbed at his cheeks furiously, shaking his head, “It was stupid. I should’ve known better than going. And going alone was a dumb risk. Shit, this is ridiculous. I’m so stupid-”

“Hey,” Burger reached out and laid his hand on Vang0’s, “don’t say that. I didn’t know you before but I know you now. You’re smart and wicked good with a gun and you’re my friend, whether you wanna be or not. You’ve been through a lot on your own but it doesn’t have to be like that. You’ve got people who want to help you. Words and stuff, that’s hard for me. But I can try and help. If what you look like doesn’t feel like you, I’ll help ya can change it. And if feelin’ like yourself is less ‘bout looks and more just how you feel, figuring out what happened, who you were? Then I’ll help you with that too. All you gotta do is ask. I’ll be there.”

Vang0 eyes are still wet and his mouth his hanging slightly open. His brain short-circuiting at how damn earnest Burger sounds. It was hard to trust anyone in this city but he knew he could trust Burger. Before either of them realize it’s happening, Vang0’s leaned across the center console and pressed his lips firmly against Burger’s. It lasts only an instant before Vang0’s brain turns back on and starts blasting alarm bells. He pulls back slowly, rubbing at the still-damp spots beneath his eyes. A dumbfounded look contorts Burger’s face and before the big guy gets a chance to speak (or Vang0 a chance to put his foot in his mouth) Vang0 opens his door.

“Thank you,” he says as he slides out of the door, “for everything.”

They just stare at each other through the open door. Not for long. Some unspoken sense of understanding settling over them. But Vang0 doesn’t want to dwell on all of this right now. Panic over the many vulnerabilities he has just exposed is already setting in. Looking at Burger though, he knows he has nothing to worry about.

Vang0 takes a deep, shuddering breath, reminds himself that he’s here, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

but i do have a few Issues with like, the way this was asked i guess

i will answer your question just--give me a sec, im a little uncomfortable here

also like, ok, i get why you’re sending it anonymously, it’s cool--personally i’ve never seen anyone get hate on behalf of trans magnus headcanons (rather than against them) but i mean, hate can come in all shapes and sizes i guess? and anxiety, so. whatever, it’s fine, i get it

but anyway moving on: first, “canon” cis magnus. my dude... my guy... did at any point magnus say I Am Cisgender or pull out his dick.... like... neither trans or cis magnus is really “canon” just as like, you know, izzy isn’t confirmed straight or bi or pan. we know she likes dudes and personally i think the way she looks at clary indicates she sure do like girls, too, but that doesn’t seem to have been intended so it’s debatable, and that’s basically it. 

also, in the context of just like... historical shit, realistically magnus isn’t cis. is he trans in the way i write about (like afab, “pre op”)? no, not necessarily in canon (although he isn’t... not that either i guess--we do see his flat chest, no scars, but HYPOTHETICALLY that could be a glamour, or the scars are magically healed. we know he has an adams apple, but there ways to do that without magic, let alone with magic. so like. i’m just saying.) 

but like, he wouldn’t be cis how we understand it either by the simple virtue of being much older than the western gender binary as we know it. even if he was born with a penis and all of that and identified as a Man(TM) And Nothing Else that wouldn’t mean his idea of masculinity/manhood would be the same as ours, or that it wouldn’t at least be shaped by very different factors. so like. even if my version of trans magnus isn’t confirmed canon, cis magnus certainly isn’t either i think. that might be slicing hairs or getting finnicky with language, but it’s how i feel about it. 

and just assuming that he’s canonically cis rubs me the wrong way, like, characters aren’t cishet by default, you know? obviously the writers probably weren’t intending to make him trans, and cc certainly wasn’t when she stole his character from dark hunters and made it “her own”, or else there’d be a bunch of transphobic tropes in there, but like, you know, death of the authors, we make sense of canon now. intentions arguably don’t matter, we do with the story what we will, especially when working within it.

again i don’t think you were necessarily being like “well magnus is canonically cis so :/” but it rubs me the wrong way and is something i’ve seen before so like, yeah

secondly, “trans boy” magnus versus “cis male” magnus. why boy, anon. why boy

simple answer: yes.

complicated answer: not really. i already stated why i don’t like Cis(TM) magnus as it feels unrealistic and dumb and also he just doesn’t have cis energy lmao, but if you just mean like... well this isn’t really “cis” but kind of what people mean in this context, AMAB magnus (meaning he was “assigned male at birth” aka has a penis and all that) and he’s canonically gnc so like, he’s “cis” even if his understanding of masculinity might be different than ours and obviously we’ve seen him be gnc and all that.... i don’t really hate that, and objectively, i have no issues with it, but personal taste wise, i basically only read/write trans magnus as you see on my blog now. because i’ve kind of absorbed it as “canon” in my head (fanon, i guess, lmao) 

plus, just generally trans magnus is really important to me because like, a) he is #goals i too want to be a muscular gnc hottie, b) he’s relatable and i project all my shit onto him lmao, c) it just feels very validating, in a lot of ways--with the sexual preferences i write about, his insecurities, just the way he looks, and him being trans is just kind of reassuring, you know? also d) i honestly think it fits him/his character/his backstory and he just has the vibes u kno

okay there were definitely water + subtle storm sounds in the beginning of 3.04 along with the usual creaking sounds and?? idk if its just me noticing them for the first time but yeah the penumbra is definitely looking to be a big ship or something

one thing that i have been loving about how the writers approached olala's shapeshifting powers is that her tail (which is mostly the only way we've seen her exercise her powers uptil now) seems to be sentient? or atleast capable of making a noise which olala either understands or imagines as a language. especially given that shes a child its a really cute and fun way to show her interacting + trusting her powers not just as a part of herself but as a companion

the leaves are turning green. she must've escaped the wastes!! also love that in classic olala style her imagination picked up on that detail and is trying to figure what to make of it with her limited knowledge

another thing abt her imagination is the way she's doing the whole "squadron" thing. it seems like she doesn't like being alone, and that could infact be one of the reasons she's so imaginative (apart from the fact that she's. u know. a child)

tide me over, love and life - G, 9k, modern au. vanitas used to be an amazing part of the swim team but finds himself distracted and his times slowing lately. ven, the team manager, takes it upon himself to help vanitas out. very introspective heavy, featuring beautiful turns of phrase and a laid back pacing appropriate for your favorite slice of life anime. this is probably my favorite vanven fic, tbh

Heart Is Where The Home Is - G, 341k, canonverse. one sided roxas/vanitas. this is VERY LONG but its 1 the fic that got me into vanven and 2 in my mind, THE GOLD STANDARD FOR HEART HOTEL FIC. it bounces back and forth between two plotlines - a messy vanitas redemption as he and ven learn to live with each other, and how things get complicated once roxas and xion join the hotel. the characters are all amazingly written, the worldbuilding is very in-depth, and it also features one of the best written xion arcs i’ve ever seen in fic. DEF worth the read

You’re not the boy you used to be. - T, 176k, modern au, namixi sideship, mentioned terqua, sorikai, and leaisa. HUGE FOCUS on the friendship between vanitas and xion. hahaha you really thought i wouldn’t write a rec list and NOT include my own fics? blease. this is a story about grieving an abusive parent that got distracted by a romantic subplot. it’s a non-linear fic, following three different parts of vanitas’s life at the same time. there’s a xion quote that sums it up best imo: “We carry our childhoods with us. For better or worse, we still do. But we can be better from where we came from. We always can.”

Belief, Faith - G, 2k, post kh3-vanitas-somehow-redeemed-au. also my fic. vanven go on a trip and vanitas struggles with being accepted and loved. very introspective-heavy.

my heart’s on the (drum)line - G, 9k, marching band au, rokunamixi as a secondary ship. my last fic! this is 100% a romantic comedy in fic form, featuring the most obtuse vanitas ever seen. vanitas gets a huge crush on ven and is legit too stupid to figure it out, so he spends all his time being angry and melodramatic instead. props to his long-suffering best friend namine, who obsessively polishes her flute to blind the people who are mean to her and is a complete disaster about her own crushes. 

Only You - G, 2k, canonverse. a heart hotel fic. waywardriot wrote an entire series of fics for vanven week and while i recommend all of them, this one is my favorite! basically vanitas finds redemption through the power of love. its cute as heck. 

Salvation - G, 17k, canonverse, wip. a post-kh3 fic where vanitas is taken in by the guardians of light and very slowly redeemed. eventual vanven. no romance yet, but i LOVE how vanitas is written here (so much bitterness! he’s like a wounded feral anime) and i especially love his interactions with kairi and xion here. 

Chains Unbroken - T, 72k, canonverse, side terqua and sorikai. post-kh3, post heart-hotel where vanitas gets to chill with the rest of the squad. he was stolen by xehanort and forced to become one of the 13 darknesses and it broke his heart, so ven and pals look for a way to help him out. the pov rotates between multiple characters, so you get a good look into many different relationships here!!! i especially love kairi here, too. 

Codenames - G, 4k, modern au. vanitas is a secret agent and ven is the little voice in his ear keeping him on track. well-paced, funny, cute, and with enough intrigue to make the heist aspect super gripping! 

we follow our own steps - T, 13k, canonverse. post-kh3 where vanitas doesn’t die, but finds himself with nothing other than his intense attachment to ven. this vanitas is SO fun and SO snappy, and learns how to be something other than completely unhinged. it’s also adorable and very sweet.

has no one ever? G, 390 words, canonverse. all lower-case, but it’s so short that it doesn’t bother me. this prose is ABSOLUTELY lovely and sad and it’s exactly what it says on the tin - ven helps vanitas clean up after a fight. vanitas does not understand what a gentle touch is. it’s good. 

As He Sleeps - Not Rated (but sfw), 1.5k, canonverse. slight body horror warning. this features some BEAUTIFUL PROSE and it reads the way being in a dream that isn’t-quite-bad-but-isn’t-good feels. the kind of dream that you KNOW affected you deeply but slips through your memories the moment you wake up. fitting, since it’s a fic about ven’s dreams as he sleeps during the ten year gap. featuring some beautiful metaphors and comparisons to vanitas as a fallen angel. this makes me want a canonverse fic where vanitas is somehow alive and acts like a knight to ven’s sleeping body. please. someone grant me this wish.

Habit - G, 2k, canonverse. ven develops this weird habit of seeing vanitas at night. it develops into something more. very sweet, very cute, a good read overall.

heart to heart - G, 1k, canonverse. vanitas finds out ven is in love with him through their empathy connection. also adorable.

recovery is a long road (but there’s no traffic) - T, 10k, implied terqua and a bigger focus on the individual relationships between the wayfinders + vanitas than romance, canonverse. a REALLY GOOD post-kh3 fic exploring the wayfinders + vanitas healing after the big war. the prose is lovely and the exploration of every character is beautiful (AQUA IS MY FAVORITE IN THIS FIC, ACTUALLY) 

ok these last two are in french but uh, look, LOOK. they’re readable with google translate. there are some weird translation things but these plots are good enough to push past that

Safety Lock - T, 10k, superhero au. LOOK. I LOVE SUPERHEROES. I *REALLY* LOVE SUPERHEROES. the worldbuilding here is SOOO MUCH FUN. ven is part of an agency of superheroes called the guardians of light, and when local supervillain vanitas starts stirring up more trouble, ven takes it upon himself to stop him personally. it’s what ya gotta do, when you have a shared past the way they do. it is SUCH a fun read and ven is SO MUCH FUN, it’s just a good time all around. 

Eux, premiere partie (translation: Them, part one) - T, 38k, au. i have a huge weakness for a very specific type of story and that is “really rich kid is, for whatever reason, unable to leave their mansion and their life changes drastically when someone new enters their life” and this story is 100% that. the world outside vanitas’s family’s property is dangerous, filled with these people that aren’t really human anymore. ven is a bodyguard hired to protect vanitas, mostly from trying to escape the mansion again. thing is, the mansion is just as dangerous for vanitas as the world outside. i will be real with you the xion here is SUUUUUUPER OOC, and while she is a compelling villain in her own right, the role she plays and the personality she has here is something more akin to larxene. even then. EVEN THEN. the worldbuilding is SOOO GOOD, the relationship between ven and vanitas is very compelling, and the way vanitas is written (as this very bitter kid) is AMAZING. there’s so much mystery and intrigue about the world outside the walls vanitas inhabits, and there’s a ton of angst but it’s just. ugh. it’s so good. i love it especially for this line here, re: what desperation does to us: “Hunger, especially. It is she who destroys what remains human.”

there are other fics i have read and enjoyed but these all are like, top tier (or at least high tier) for me!!! looking at them all in a group its very obvious what kind of tropes i like

this has been sitting in here for a while Imma just roll with it.

Remus is a NAUGHTY but needy pupLikes to torment the other pets but also cries when they fight back. 

Especially after Dee scratches him a few times (He and Dee are not allowed near each other anymore because of this)

surprisingly sensitive and vulnerable when in headspace; the only way Patton can actually get the little twerp to actually open up

Would never admit it but has his own blankie he hides until nappy time; has a smol little teether on the corner of it he likes to suck/chew on while sleeping

a messy eater but TECHNICALLY can eat and drink independently. Patton usually tries to help tho bc....

Remus loves to be messy and get messy, but HATES to get clean and DESPISES baths. Patton doesn’t understand it but ok. Will end up soaked by the end of the ordeal

Will try and play tug of war with his brother but Remus sometimes is too rough

Also loves to chew anything and everything. Also loves to torment the babs (Dee and Virg) with his loud squeaky toys. Patton then makes the rule for him and Ro that squeakies are for outside time only

Ends up in timeout a lot

will then revolt by going potty on the rug

then ends up in a dip

He technically can go potty but still sometimes has trouble; usually that’s why the peeing on the rug happens. He often waits until he can’t even find a puppy pad

That said he gets v embarrassed by it all; the only time Virgil even goes near him, bc he gives good comfort snuggles

Patton loves him but he is truly a handful. But he supposes its a safe outlet for Remus, as opposed to some other methods...

and to get to her house, you have to cut into the uhhh

the place where all the store stands are

and so your holding a lot of stuff in your arms and you just walk with your eyes on the floor, watching where you step

and you lift your head up at times so you can see if you’re ever going to bump into someone

guess what 

you rlly done goofed cause you Look Up and right as you do theres this body that collides with yours

and you drop

then you just stop and you get rlly pissed off

so you go home and just sleep on it cause you kind of just dont want to think about it HAHA

so the next morning when you wake up your mom says to go to your gma’s again

just cause your gma wants to see you .. which is kind of odd

you only see your grandma during special occasions and when you drop things off

only because school/work has been taking a lot of your time

but just for your gma,,,,, you’ll visit her and forget the responsibilities for now

you walk there with confusion on your face because,,, although your grandma loves you, she doesn’t just spring on you and ask you to come over

so youre just curious about why she wants to see you (there isnt anything wrong with it !!! its just a lil odd)

when you arrive to her cottage you see this car outside and immediately become anxious

youre just treading slowly to the door, and then you raise your hand to knock,,, but youre hesitating A LOT

so time goes by (max. of like .. 5 minutes) and the door swings open to reveal your grandma

she puts you into a bone crushing hug, and then pulls you inside

“thank you for coming dear !! i want you to formally meet someone.”

and then you get SCARED scared

so when you turn to go into the living room, you nearly SCREAM

cause on the couch is mr prince chenle and you feel like one of the guards is going to strangle u with the glare they’re giving you

in your defense, you didnt Know ............ you told off the Prince .......

“chenle sweetie, this is my sweet grandchild i was telling you about !! they did tell me recently that you recently met.”

chenle blushes when he makes eye contact but you rlly dont now why cause You Told Him Off and thats rlly all you can think about HAHA

BUT in reality chenle isnt too bothered by that cause you didn’t immediately treat him like a Prince, you treated him like a regular person (albeit a lil ... Yikes)

and he actually thinks that you are the most gorgeous being in the World !! mayhaps lil prince even has a tiny crush on you !!!

when you Formally Introduce urself to him

ur grandma hits u w that, “sweetie can u help me n chenle garden some things !!”

and then she gestures u both to follow her in her backyard

she tells the guards to make themselves feel at home and leave out like lemonade or sumn

so you and chenle are just super awkward at first cause you dont know how to break the tension

also all you can think about once again: was that u rlly told him off

but then chenle starts to laugh really loudly at a joke your grandma says and then you just-

YOU WANT TO COO !! cause even tho his laugh is Super Loud, you find it endearing that he’s just letting loose like this

he catches you staring tho and he stops and he Blushes Again and you want to !!! squish !! 

who doesnt want to squish chenle he’s literally such an angel and hes so adorable ugh i lov baby

so you both just start talking more and then by the end of the day you guys are just best buddies

you forget hes the prince too

but then u walk in to see the guards and ur all lik e... righ t...

and honestly you guys make this a regular thing

you and chenle go to ur gmas house to garden every day or when you guys have the time

and essentially its just you guys pulling out weeds while talking about new and exciting things that happened to you recently

and your grandma just watches you guys get along and her heart is happy

cause chenle sometimes talks to her about him not making friends cause they always use him for his status

and so ur gma knows u arent like that and shes just really happy to see the two of you get along really well

days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months !! and you guys become really really close friends

some feelings develop too or .. whatever ..

but you dont acknowledge them cause youre just a person who lives in the viliage while hes a prince

and hes so shy about it that he blushes everytime you say his name or just smile at him

and so ur just kinda ... laying down on him awkwardly and your guys’ faces are so CLOSE

but then you clear your throat and then you jump off of him

it gets kind of late and the guards are just like, “hate to break this cute and adorable moment, but your momma is calling you to be home prince”

and so chenle just blushes and gets up first, then holds his hand out again to help you up

it makes you sad when he has to leave, but he drops you off at home

when he does, he walks you to your door and then he says goodbye, but before he leaves

you feel a little bold and you kiss him on the cheek !!! so cute !!! cause then hes just RED ! and hes so flustured and he just waves bye and when he gets into his car

he just clutches his chest and has this big smile on his face and hes just so in awe

and the guards are teasing him but he really Does Not Care cause you just did : THAT

but you guys go out more often after this

we are currently reading the cardassian sourcebook (basically an old RPG manual or something) and it’s stirring a lot of ... strange feelings. mostly “wow that’s creepy” over and over again, but also weird personal shit haha

it is absolutely bizarre to have one person in this brain who’s like “oh i want to go there, sounds like it would be a relief compared to the nonsense we’ve had to put up with” while literally everyone else is either recoiling in horror or at least raising eyebrows because THAT’S A BAD SYSTEM IT’S A BAD SOCIETY BLEASE SIR Y R U LIKE THIS
