#i have sooo many plans for characters and planned lore

The annoying thing is that reducing Solas to a dislikable two dimensional caricature in Veilguard didn't even come close to fixing the problem they set out to fix in doing so, and it was never going to.

I can’t pull up the exact quote, but I believe one of the writing team said something along the lines that they needed to make Solas less sympathetic because at the end of Trespasser too many people agreed with him and wanted to end the world. Which is why they chose to have him kill Varric, among other things. 

While I will say that I agree with the choice to have him kill Varric(I like the idea of him making Rook hallucinate him too, that could have been sweet if it had been well executed rather than a bland set up for a M. Night Shyamalan level twist) to raise the stakes and set Solas up as a serious antagonist for a new audience, or an audience that hadn’t been paying particularly close attention to him - but there is no way it could have ever suddenly made his goal to tear down the veil unsympathetic for those who found it to be so.

The writers seem to have been under the impression that members of the audience sympathised with Solas’ plan to tear down the veil not on its own merits, but for the draw of his sparkling personality alone. Not for well established lore related reasons, or for extra-narrative reasons rooted in a desire for emotional catharsis and narrative satisfaction (which a fictional body count has even less bearing on besides) but because he’s a sad pretty elf boi and we want to kiss it all better.

I’m going to be real with you, if they had surgically transplanted Ogrehn’s personality onto Solas and had him stone cold murder every other beloved character in the series, I would still want the  Veil to come down, or at the very least a better solution than leaving it just as it is. How likeable he is or isn’t has fuck all to do with it? 

Making Solas more dislikable does nothing to change the effect the Veil has on spirits and mages, it does nothing to address the question of the value of mortal lives weighted against immortal ones. It does not change the narrative role of a trickster in bringing enlivening chaos and upheaval to a stagnating world, in this case one that’s been forced to stagnate in service of the illusion of player choice; nor does it quiet our desire to see the rotten roots of Thedas’ corrupt institutions torn up and put to the torch ect. ect.

Most annoyingly, attempting to use Varric's death to accomplish this betrays the writer's assumption that players that did sympathise with Solas’ goals did so out of a naive misapprehension that he’s some sweet uwu softboy that could never do anything truly ruthless or cruel in order to accomplish his goals, and that once we had been disabused of that belief we would clutch our pearls in horror(you mean he’s willing to kill people? In a video game series with protagonists that each have kill counts numbering in the thousands? Quick, summon my fainting couch!) and tidily dismiss the notion that he might have ever had any worthwhile motivations at all. 

Look all you silly little girlies that want to kiss the fictional man, I feel like you don’t understand that he’s the *bad guy* here, glad we’ve cleared that up for you sweetheart. And isn’t he just sooo condescending?

It does not seem to have occurred to the writers that, to his fans, his stone cold ruthlessness is both one of the most well understood and deeply compelling features of the character.

I would happily give that writer a pass on a wicked case of foot in mouth, but the way Anaris & Cyran are written seems to very much enforce their the stance that an overabundance of sympathy for Solas as a person, as well as a desire to see him vindicated are the primary reasons any of the audience would ever agree with his goals. 

So to fix this issue, it stands to reason that the writers needed to de-emphasise everything that humanised(for lack of a better term) Solas and made him sympathetic as a person. Because apparently the problem is that their attempts to do so in the previous game worked a little too well on some people, right? 

As @mythalism pointed out, we cannot see him comfort his friends through their panic or grief or their crisis of faith, or have hushed philosophical conversations with them. We cannot see him flirt awkwardly, or try to pretend he didn’t just set his own coattails on fire.

We never see the god of liberation free so much as a wisp bound to a teaspoon.

And all of those compelling character motivations you thought he had about free will and self determination? Don’t worry kitten, we’ve sanitised all of the conflicts those might be applicable to right out of the setting anyway. Yay <3

At the same time, it feels like they’re too scared to upset the very same audience that they imagine has this woobified rose tinted view of the character, lest they scare them away. They’re too afraid of the audience to let him be truly unwaveringly ruthless, prejudiced, bitchy, vindictive, and even genuinely sadistic towards his enemies, because that might upset our fragile sensibilities too much! 

He can’t ever say anything mean to Rook - that might hurt our feelings!

He doesn’t really do anything bad, and if he does he doesn’t really mean it. He committed war crimes, but only because Mythal asked him nicely. He killed Varric, but it was an accident. He makes Rook hallucinate Varric, but he doesn’t use that to manipulate them; Varric just hangs out and vibes. He uses blood magic on you, but he doesn’t do any of the truly fucked up violating things that we know full well blood magic is capable of. He misleads you when he says “the Veil will not fall by my hand”, but it’s so transparent that it’s laughable. He’s never allowed the conviction to really follow through on any of his misdeeds, while still he’s bizarrely framed as outright villainous for them. 

So what we’re left with is a character divested of most of his admirable qualities, but with most of the rough edges filed off as well. Toothless. Boring.

It feels so much like they’re talking down to their audience? Like they don’t trust us to see a character with BOTH vices and virtues in spades come to our own conclusions about them? 

So we get this bland mealy-mouthed version of the character that we apparently need watered down further with ‘our team’s’ insipid commentary, much of which is blatantly based on bad takes people were spewing online almost a decade ago, and many of which have no bearing whatsoever on the actual story we’re being told because ohh my godd apparently we need to have our hands held while we’re walked though every opinion the audience might theoretically  have about the character and gently reassured by proxy that it’s a hashtag #valid opinion and why does this game insist on speaking to us like we’re morons??

For all that they incessantly bring up how condescending Solas is, I’m not sure if I've ever felt more spoken down to by a story I had been so invested in.

So Solas is boring now and I still l wanna tear down the veil lol

Something I remind myself when it comes to the release of AvA 11 and the current timeline of AvA is that this takes place a few years back from current timeline (Green Influencer Arc) so…EVERYTHING TURNS OUT! but even then you can subtlety notice a bit of a slight change in Orange.

I’m specifically referring to the lava prank scene regarding their anger but the way Orange treated Green at the end of Ep. 3 can also be noted since I’ve seen it noted before how Orange seems a lot more laid back in a way? It’s hard to say. But we do know Orange has done more to kinda manage his anger (comparing how he reacts to the prank in comparison to the lush caves ep). Sooo who knows….

so I find the way they pace things out so interesting bc like…it really makes you wonder what happens in between that causes that sorta change. Was it intentional? It’s hard to say. I’m still thinking about that one Green comment from the Trick Shots video regarding a comment referring to Orange as The Second Coming. Well of course it’s very likely they do know of that name since it’s been shown to the CG before (looking at the AvLoL video) but do they become aware of Orange’s powers? Does Orange know about his own powers? (Well he does now, but I guess more in a sense of actually witnessing himself *use* these powers). I think it’s interesting (not really in a theorizing way, just more in a ‘huh! Cool!’) sorta way the CG still refer to Orange as…Orange.

I don’t think we are going to get all of our answers about Orange in AvA 11 since it seems it’s going to be much more victim focused considering the name of the ep and the teasers we have all seen (all of them pointing to victim backstory and such). I’m guessing we are going to get more Orange lore in AvA 12 or 13 (maybe some hints or even an awakening in AvA 11 tho….) (NOT NEG BTW LMAO)

But speaking on victim’s backstory…god… I’m not ready… I wonder how much will be seen, I wonder if we are gonna find out about what victim is going to do with Yellow…Chosen and Orange. What are Red, Blue, and Green…going to do now? I wonder how many answers we are going to get for victim…also as I’ve seen others point out how the title is very interesting too…’Victim’ I don’t think this just refers to the character victim, but the concept of a victim. victim is making others into victims because of his plans…Yellow, Chosen, Orange… and even Alan in a way in the future, wanting Alan to feel the pain he felt and feel the pain of his namesake…and who knows about Mitsi’s involvement seeing she most likely has some sort of role to play in this.

Also Dark being alive possibly? (I don’t know how much I believe Dark is alive/will be revived just yet but…I’m open to any possibility LMFAOOO)

AvA 11 is just such a mystery on how they are going to portray it and write it. Because it’s not a series finale, it’s actually more close to the middle/beginning (I think S3 goes to Ep15 or something idk I saw it somewhere I just don’t remember).

Shadow High series 3 my new beloved

I didnt even like most of em until i saw them in person, but the knowledge that they'll probably never be in the show has my brain in a "well its free realestate" kinda mood

Random list of information cuz ive been plotting out friend dynamics and background lore

-i like to pretend Rainbow High/Shadow High are actually Rainbow University/Shadow University cuz im in art college Right Now and i think it makes more sense with the whole dorm room situation. And also major makes more sense than focus IMO

-I changed Pinkie's major from film to just undeclared. I think she eventually does land on Film. She just has a lot of interests! Her dream has always been to one day direct films, and I think she comes to love them even more while developing ideas her with the group as she winds up in a Director/Producer position for most of them. BUT also every time she takes a class in a different program she cant help but fall in love with that way of making art too. So she has a hard time picking for a while and changed her major a couple times before landing on Film.

-Pinkie and Berrie bond a lot over a shared interest in vocal synths (tho Berrie knows more about them than her).

-The two made Pinkie's vtuber model together!

-the fandom wiki says PJ is from germany?? Idk how canon that is tbh but ive decided to embrace it i guess

-Rooney's canon name is Scarlet Rose, but i thought it was kinda lame especially when Rosie Redwood is also in this line sooo I renamed her! Stuck to the color name puns tho. Mar Rooney. Maroon. Haha

-Speaking on her though i love that shes from texas and likes writing scifi mystery type stuff and that being said i just Know deep in my bones that she was a Voltron Legendary Defender fan and Keith was/is 100% her favorite. She has a continued fondness for mothman specifically cuz of this.

-PJ and Rooney actually talk about fandom and shows/movies ALL the time. They dont have a ton of overlapping interests, but where they do? The two literally never shut up.

-Rosie is such a random character, like outside of her design she feels very poorly considered. So I scrapped the cosmetology thing and made her an illustrator instead! I think it works better with her love of making art in nature. I can see her being really into illustrated guide books. I think shes a bit snooty when it comes to art too. It takes being friends with other artists to become more open minded.

-I like the idea that Rosie is mainly friends with Rooney and Berrie ontop of that. The three of them often tag team storylines and how theyd interpret them into different mediums. Rosie will draw up a bunch of concept stuff while Rooney writes up a pitch bible and Berrie will start making shit move and throwing in her own ideas on camera angles and character designs.

-as an animation major Berrie was required to take a sound design class early on, which is where she met Oliver! Hes very laid back, and likes to go with the flow, but functions a little like the "mom" of the group. Often reminding the girls to take breaks, drink water, stop looking at their screens lest they get eye strain etc. He's multi-talented tbh but Music is his one true passion and he likes how the girls are always giving him collaboration opportunities.

-Oliver and Rosie like to talk sports a lot, both having played a bunch when they were younger and throughout high school.

-Lavender Lynn is Oliver's number one "person who needs constant reminders to settle down" she is in a constant buzz of trying to get the best shots and is utterly obsessed with the process of artistic documentation. Everything must be documented.

-the whole school loves her for this actually, she has a whole side gig where other students hire her to help photograph their projects. She saves everything she earns from this for her future dream plans to visit paris. She has it set really, many of the artists who she helps photograph now will remain steadfast clients of hers forever onward.

-PJ and Lynn actually took a print media class together at one point. Which didnt at the time spark an everlasting friendship. But it did give PJ an easier in to ask for Lynn's help documenting a project the group was working on. One of Lynn's first times photographing them work happened to fall on a day where Rosie had planned to trick everyone into going on a nature walk sans devices... Lynn wound up really appreciating this outing and decided to continue hanging around the group even after that project had ended.

like im not well versed in forgotten realms lore by ANY means but i DO enjoy veering into headcanon worldbuilding territory sooo. take everything with a grain of salt and only keep what u feel like skdjskdjsnfj

we all know bhaal is like. kind of COMICALLY self destructive and stupid, shooting his pawns in the foot at the drop of a hat seemingly just for the sake of pointless cruelty, and is obsessed with murder even to the point of sacrificing his other domain of ritualized death for the purpose of killing the world (orin should NOT be as penalized as she is for how strictly she does in fact adhere to bhaal's doctrine). and while this can be explained as differences in writers portrayal and sympathy for the character of bhaal (larian in particular seems to take a dim view of bhaal, and of gods in general), spinning it into a consistent character is a fun writing challenge

and personally i think its just a long form example of how mortal minds are not innately prepared for the leap of being an autonomous individual capable of making personal decisions and having complicated nuanced feelings about a variety of ideologies to becoming a Conceptual Embodiment responsible for a fundamental force present in the world at large. like you stop BEING a person, you stop being able to change your opinions on certain things because... well, you ARE those things. can the wind stop feeling like the wind?

so bhaal achieves divinity and inherits aspects of jergal and it utterly rends his mind asunder. his erratic behavior is a result of his human mind trying to cope with divine power, and so its no surprise that he turns to that same coping method many angry dissatisfied violent people turn to: familial abuse. bhaal has a direct line of connection through blood ties to his spawn, and its a line he can draw on whenever he pleases to influence their behavior or communicate with them. every progeny hears him as clear as a cleric, regardless of their will or feelings towards him, as long as that blood connection remains. its why hes so obsessed with producing spawn despite being a god of murder: on a personal level, he embodies those cycles of abuse and how they keep perpetuating themselves, not as a divine aspect but as a personal choice as a result of his own actions and the consequences bhaal experiences. on a broader scale, you CANT redeem bhaal, not just because he is an evil aligned god of murder, but because redemption would require bhaal to meaningfully confront that his ambition to pursue divinity has ruined his life, and that temporary relief like exerting power over his family cant actually solve the core problem that he isnt actually capable of handling the power and responsibility he sought out. so he would prefer to keep driving his spawn to slaughter and self destruction and ruining his own schemes because that maintains the illusion of bhaal being an influential powerful deity in control of his emotions. the success of his schemes actually doesnt matter nearly as much as that illusion.

it doesnt matter that the dark urge was on the brink of achieving his self described final goal of killing the world, because they acted outside of his control through allying with a baneite and enacted a scheme they came up with themselves. it doesnt matter that bhaal explicitly encouraged orin to betray them, bhaals goals are falling short of success so the dark urge needs to get it together and finish the scheme they started in his name. this is an absolute nonsense train of logic, because your punished twice over, first for making a plan that benefits bhaal, and then AGAIN for BEING PUNISHED THE FIRST TIME! if the end goal was actually achieving the death of the world via the absolute, this is a totally fucking stupid way of going about it, but it makes sense as an extension of an abusers inability to cope with life stressors outside of inflicting abuse.

we need to remember that there is no inherent series of personality traits that defines an abuser, only actions. there is no circumstances that make an abuser an abuser, and there is nothing a victim does to justify or deserve abuse. an abuser acts like they do because abuse benefits and rewards them, and they are unwilling to actually surrender those benefits to treat their victims with the dignity they deserve, because thats difficult and hard and not as immediately rewarding. and generally, the most common reward for abuse is stress relief. abusing a victim feels good for the abuser, it relieves anger, it passes blame away from them onto a subject they can act on (instead of taking personal responsibility or acknowledging depersonalized systemic forces), it relieves stress, its an exercise of power and control in a world where those things are not easily accessible. understanding bhaal as an abuser provides the thread of consistency that makes a series of incoherent actions and reasonings reflect a mindset a person could conceivably have, and the stress he is trying to relieve has an easy source in the form of the very divinity bhaal sought after so greedily

to a lesser extent, this aspect of ruining divinity is, i feel, present in all three of them, its just that bhaals manifestation of it is exceptionally explosive and violent. bane seems completely and utterly consumed by his aspect of tyranny, to the extent that little remains of his personality that isnt a cunning, ambitious power seeking manipulator who accrues and hoards power at all costs, even consuming his son in his entirety for his own resurrection. that myrkul inherited so much of jergals portfolio and has increasingly mimicked jergals personality is no coincidence. the three adventurers who challenged jergal all those centuries ago have been annhilated utterly, the people they once were swallowed entirely within their divine aspects. its ruined all of them, to varying degrees, but its bhaals obsession with maintaining himself at any cost, his awareness of his own precarious position and tenuous grip on his own divinity that has him acting out so aggressively

Poppy playtime chapter 4 spoilers

I will say this now!!!! This chapter broke my heart. This hurt me more than the others. Like….wow.

Sone things I wasn’t shocked by. Others!!! Wow.

The new areas was so amazing. It brought MUCH more darkness and horror that I loved. It truly showed us the horrors that happened in playtime co

The new tapes were so good. The information and lore we got was so worth it.

Sooo. The defeat of Harley felt so underwhelming. I kinda wanted more…..but, The fact he got turned into a toy to be used by his associates was both satisfying and dark. ( he had it coming)

Yarnaby was so cute. I don’t care if he’s a monster he’s a cutie. I wanted to pet him.

The nightmare critters not having much screen time was disappointing but it’s fine. I honestly don’t like them. ( no offense)

The prison was so sad. Doey giving us information about the true horrors of life down there just makes it so sad. The toys were prisoners. They deserve better.

Speaking of Doey!!!!!!!!

Doey was just a tragic character. His story was so sad. I just, I wanted to hug him so bad. I’m so mad at what we had to do. Killing him didn’t feel right. I CRIED!!!!! He deserved to fucking live!! He was a child who was experimented on and was unstable. He didn’t mean to kill his parents. The scientists hurt him and the parents thought they were getting their son back. Doey saw SO much horror and it shows with how he acts when he’s truly upset and scared.

I hate poppy!!!! Her plan hurt so many innocent people and for what…revenge.

The safe haven having actual toys who are good and just want to be protected was just so cool. It shows that they could have been good allies. ( stupid poppy and her plan)

HER knowing the hour of joy was coming before hand is so shocking but…..it makes me of a new theory. ( maybe a new au lol)

Ollie being the prototype was something that I’m not surprised by.

Poppy abandoning the player and kissy was something low. It shows she’s a coward. She doesn’t fully care.

HUGGY JUMPSCARE at the end. WOW!!! That was awesome!!!!!

I will say that I felt the game went a little too fast, and some things felt underwhelmed in a way. But it was a good game.

I also kinda wish not every character died so quickly, it felt pointless to get to know them. I also wish we had had a choice to save the safe haven.

But other than that it was good.

So excited for chapter 5.

I'm glad that I read several other great books before I read the Harry Potter series. Because it really just shows how dogshit they are. It's not even the fact that JK Rowling is a cunt, it's the fact that she's got so rich off such mediocre literature (if you could even call it that). Where were the billions of dollars for Jane Austen, where was it for her to use in her time? Idk if that's a good example but my point still stands. The idea of a wizarding school is great, and I can entirely understand why people are captivated by the series because of the main premise. But there is sooo muchhhh goddamn lore that could have been added and so many things that could have been altered for it to work out. When you go to make an oc there's really only one type that you can make, otherwise the lore for the oc is just too vague because the original content was never expanded upon. Like if you wanted to make an oc from Beauxbatons or however you spell it. It's so little info to work with. The whole series is a disappointment because it's all from one linear point of view of the entitled little cunt harry is and nothing ever branches out or is addressed ever again. Is harry not even slightly curious? I know I fucking well would be. And also there's really no solid character development. I read up to book 5, and I plan to read the rest at some point but that doesn't change the fact that these books are over whole school years and no one changes in any solid way. I felt like I knew Neville wayyy better just from the hospital scene with his parents and the trio then I knew Ron and Hermione from throughout all the scenes they had been in from that point. Like teenagers are always changing, ESPECIALLY from the ages of 11 to 15. Anyways rant over caused Ive wasted most of my lunch break with this shit but fuck JK Rowling and fuck her writing.

So now that the game has been out for awhile I think it’s time we open up the age old mystery discussion about our friend Yelv.

I will put my thoughts under the cut in case anyone has not played all his affinity missions yet.

So we first meet our friend Yelv when he asks us to do a bunch of missions before he decides if he is willing to work with us. After we show our skills does he begin to open up with us. During the second mission he also starts to tell us about his friend that is missing. Now when I played this the first time ten years ago I was pretty confident that the reveal that the friend was dead all along was going to be the ending of the story. And as I began to find more ‘pieces’ of said friend it got stronger. But then something else began pinging in my ear. Or rather someone.

Enter Eleonora. Blades main console maintainer. I always found her a little sus. Especially when she always seemed to be one step ahead of everyone the whole game. I once joked with my husband that I would have loved a scene where she just loses it on someone. Just drops her professional coolness and rips into them. You can get the vibe with some of the missions that she probably has. There is a sort of fearful respect that everyone has. Moments with Murderess comes to mind.

And during our missions with Yelv she always knew what we were doing. Like I get that she is supposed to know a lot to keep all the rings with the BLADE straight. But she had an interesting fixation to always keep us in check. There are hundreds if not thousands of blades. Why so obsessed with us. And the fact that she already had the numbers crunched and knew exactly where to send us in the last mission. That’s a lot of time on a persons hands to help one blade.

Which brings us to the scene that we all remember. When we finish Yelv mission and confirm that yes his friend is in fact dead. A friend that we never got a name of mind you. We are given a creepy epilogue scene where we find out that Yelv is not all we thought he was. And that Eleonora and the government was a part of it. Which left us all going what the actual fuck did I just witness. And after ten years that moment still freaks me out. Like I randomly will think of that moment and ask soooo many questions.

My first main question. What is Yelv actually. The scene says he had artificial memories implanted in his brain. So is he a human with amnesia like our MC or is he something else completely. And they say he is the prototype of the experiment. So if others come out will they also look like Yelv or something else.

Like us? I always wondered about the whole amnesia thing with us. Like I get on a story and game level it gives the ability of the avatar to being a blank slate and allow the player to be a part of the game more. Blah blah blah. But like on a lore level what is the deal. Are we actually someone who is apart of this weird experiment as well and we are to just go out and do our own thing.

Eleonora comments that his personality was shaped in part to a third part. Aka us. But I always wondered if she always planned on us being his partner to begin with. Maybe his initial plan of testing other blades and accepting us when we came a long was a whole ploy to connect the MC with Yelv. As a sort of trigger to his person. I think every moment was orchestrated by her and nothing Yelv did was of free will. He just thinks he had free will.

Which also gives a whole new meaning to us being puppets. If we controlled our mims through the LifeHold Core. (And yes I know there is a lot more to THAT story that I am not going to unpack here) than how is he controlling his. Or is someone else doing it. And who.

It always bothers me that this was kinda a gotcha moment in the original game. And that it never was explained or expanded upon. And yes I know Yelv is technically a dlc character but still. There was sooo much more to impact with him than anyone else. I feel his story was not properly concluded. I would love one more affinity mission where he find out the truth and has an existential crisis that we help with. Missed opportunity.

Also one last thing. In the game only three people can use the Synchrony skill. Us, Yelv, and Alexa. Which makes me look at her in a whole new light.

since i've just been hating i'd like to say some nice things lol

first off: i love fifteen. ncuti as the doctor was fantastic. i do agree with what he said to thirteen! she was so emotionally constipated we got doctor iloveyou3000. i think he was marvelous and i actually quite enjoyed every time he was on screen (despite whatever fuckass storylines they gave him)

also: i really enjoyed that this season was dedicated to calling out assholes in their misogyny and incels and conspiracy theorists etc etc i loved that it wasn't subtle! the doctor hates ur asses looool very important in the current climate so at least we have that

now... everything else

look i love ruby sunday and i love that two companions get to coexist and meet each other under the same doctor but c'mon they did my girl belinda sooooooo dirty. i was so excited to see where her story would go and it went nowhere? we never actually knew WHY she wanted to go home so badly! the doctor showed her she had all of time and space at her fingertips and all she wanted to do was to go home!!! I WANNA KNOW

and also this is just my very personal opinion but if i left home to work one day, had wonderful adventures, saved the world, and then i returned and i had been a mother for YEARS i'd be crashing out and i get she doesn't remember but ???? WHAT ABOUT BELINDAAAA... WHAT ABOUT HER CHARACTER?!?!?!? and then to have Poppy be just a normal human child what's the point what's the point

im all for silly goofy timey wimey adventures and most of the time i just go along with whatever like i truly don't care if it makes sense with canon if its a plothole if it contradicts a previous doctor... we are dealing with all of time and space anything can happen!! but what was that season finale??? hyping up mrs flood only for it to be nothing (and getting her out so she can come back i presume but like?? mystery's gone?) omega being straight up a waste of time lets not kid ourselves... the rain getting eaten 0.5 seconds after finishing her plan... why did we wrap up the whole season's arc in like 10 mins in such an anti-climatic way only to go back to the poppy thing which i already have said why it pisses me off so much!!

AND ONE MORE THING i thought ncuti's doctor was supposed to be an entry point to the show for new vieweres... HUH? you need to know sooo much lore and there are so many returning characters that you just feel like you're not in on the joke as the audience if you've just started watching whatever's on dinsey... maybe im just bitter cause its not my faves returning(? and i love kate and all the unit crew but why do i know more about them than i do about belinda who is the literal companion! i guess i would have much less of an issue with all the callbacks if i didn't feel they got in the way of actually developing the story and characters from the present!

like jodie and billie (and ive seen some other people confirmed but i cant remember) coming back for the 20 year special fuck yeah! love that! but why are we doing cameos every other episode. it should feel special, i should be jumping up and down ater seeing a familiar face but instead im just like yea... likely thing to happen this era... fork found in kitchen

Hazbin Hotel ep 5 and 6 spoilers!

I’m sorry but WHAT was that? I loved the first 4 episodes even when I could agree they were a little rushed and introduced us to way too many new characters without really letting us see the main cast. But the new eps were next level. Introducing characters, past reveals, lore left and right. All emotional moments have zero weight because they come out of nowhere. No one is having an actual arc— stuff just happens faster than you can chew the stuff that happened 1 minute before.

Alastor suddenly claiming him and Charlie have a father-daughter relationship? Like yeah he was probably just doing that to piss off Lucifer (WHO HE HAS NO REASON TO DISLIKE AS MUCH AS HE JUST DOES? it’s so funny) but we have literally seen Charlie and him interact like what? Once in the first ep and suddenly they have a dynamic that hasn’t developed at all to how they act around each other. And this is just one example of the many problems I have with the new eps…

The hotel is helping Angel. HOW? We have seen no actual redemption stuff that would help someone out of drug addiction or change his attitude. The one that helped was Husk and the only thing he did was have one conversation with Angel and suddenly Angel has gone through sooo much character development—even standing up to Valentino who he has no reason to suddenly not fear. (To be fair, it has been probably a few months since the events of ep four, but for a watcher it doesn’t feel like that. So the development seems a little sudden.)

Other notes:

Heaven having no rules who gets to heaven and who not, and no one just ever questioned it

Why are we even introduced to Heaven yet? Many types of reveals that happen are not season 1 material at all (or it would be if they had more episodes)

Charlie and Lucifer had a distant relationship and Charlie supposedly had ”daddy issues” and then they are just— so happy with each other and everything is resolved SO EASILY / FAST

The whole premise of the Hotel seems to be meaningless. Charlie’s great plan for redemption was… trust falls. Didn’t work. Now they must get to Heaven bc how could that be!? Like girl…

Everyone needs their own episodes! Lucifer and Alastor and Mimzy stuffed together. Vaggie and Angel Dust again and the entirety of heaven all together in a 20 minute episode—

I really wanted to love this show because I’m invested in the characters due to waiting 4 years, but it’s just… it’s so badly written. The actual plot is likeable, but the pacing and the amount of off-screen stuff is just too much. (From episode 1 to 6, 5 months have passed, but it feels more like a couple of weeks at best.)

(I still love the show tho. For the songs and the characters.)

Cataris was an early edition of Zolar I made while I was still in middle school! Its story is a little more flat than what I have for my ACTUAL plans revolving around Zolar and K9 (named Calissyus for now as a filler name) (will be saved for LATER ASKS!1!!) however a lot of Cataris has been actually revamped a little and added to the story I’m currently working on!

Cataris is one of the several planets apart of the Zolarian star/planet cluster (several planets, seven suns) and its nation is home to the beautiful Queen Nefrititi Bastet III, of course the royal and leader of this sanction of the planet (each planet is ruled by its own governments, leaders, subsections basically! This monarchy on Cataris is one of the higher ups but it isn’t the big boss or anything basically)

Now the plot of this thing with the whole laser is pretty much scrapped due to again I can NAWT keep that many plots down for my story though I might write it as a pre-story thing just for funsies.

However! Nefrititi is very impawtent to Zolarian and Kanitian (K9 people, dogs) lore, and generally speaking her character stays the same.

TLDR without spoiling too much, the Space Age Bachelor man is sent to Cataris by the main Zolarian leaders for information and bla bla bla Nefrititi is kind of suspicious of the SABM because he’s this weird alien human guy so she’s kind of racist/xenophobic to him because she’s heard bad things about humans but after a few games and trials to like prove his worth and stuff they become friends and SABM gets aaaalll the info he needs :3

ohhh there's so much!!! i really like talking about side characters (jaxeon and taz especially), but i know they don't get asked about too much here on this blog. there's a lot of extended lore i have for many of the side characters and a lot of that features other characters that aren't seen in the game, but have canonical involvement between the side characters and the main cast haha. in a way, a lot of characters are connected in ways you wouldn't really expect. someday i'll make enough games where all those connections are more apparent!!

i also enjoy talking about my planned games, particularly kurou connect and my taz game (which is tentatively called nightcrawler for the moment lol) because it's gonna take me a long time to actually finish those games... so i like to just shoot the shit and talk about all the stuff i have planned BAHAHA

i also like talking about hypothetical cryptid coffeehouse pairs... i'm very into kurotemis at the moment and i love talking about them especially because i know i can never make them canon LOOOOL kodina/kixdina is also sooo fun to talk about... i love shipping!!!!!

I really like Alpha Ford, but like, weird alpha ford. I already enjoy seeing Ford as intersex so maybe something to do with that? Or maybe he’s transsex to gamma but obviously doesn’t really realize it. So he keeps trying to do Gamma behaviors and everyone like views him as a gamma at first and then surprise! Rut.

Stan could be sooo many things. Its part of his charm but honestly? Omega or Gamma stan really speaks to me. Someone always fighting his nature of being loving and caring, someone who presents as an Alpha but just, isnt one. You could make him trans-alpha if you wanted but I feel like its less a trans thing for him and more of “I cant be weak” thing for him. Internalized Bigotry sort of thing rather than having dysphoria thing. I could also see him as a Delta? Just for sillies? But Omega means more to me emotionally.

Dipper is so, funny to me? He feels like someone who might have started his cycle really early but also i think it’d be funny if he was a Beta. He has the puberty of like, a little Alpha in rutt but nope, he’s just a weirdo! Maybe thats where a lot of his extra planning comes from? Beta need to make sure everyone is Okay, Fine even. He could also be intersex but i dunno. Beta Dipper is sooo funny to me.

Mabel is an Alpha no question in my mind about that. She likes to present and play around as something different but oohhh boy she constantly steps up to people on purpose. She’s incredibly possessive and is defo the leader of her little Summer pack.

Speaking of Summer Pack, Grenda is soo gamma to me. People think she’s an alpha cause of her stature but nope! She’s a teddy bear. Candy on the other hand could be an omega or a delta 2 me, though im leaning towards Delta simply because she has that fight in her!

Wendy is a late bloomer in my mind. She hasn’t actually presented yet but she really enjoys the mystery of it all. She grew up in a mostly alpha household so she knows how to Step Up and puff out her chest, shes also one of the main leaders of her Pack. So people asume shes probably gonna be an Alpha like a lot of her family. However, i think it’d be neat if she was a Beta or even Omega instead. Her coolness and softness to others being slightly overpowering. It would give her a bit of a complex tho, so maybe she’d be a bit trans-alpha/transex fluid but doesnt like to talk about it.

Soos is SO gamma to me like dont look at me. He is a soft giant type and loves to nest and is a Big old sweetie in my heart and soul.

The Mystery Shack is a Pack btw. Stan is the leader.

Hmm, Gideon is soo omega 2 me. Demanding and bratty omega, but an omega none the less!

And just for sillies, Lazy Susan is an Alpha. No reason, she just deserves it i think.

Crossover thing I've been rotating in my head past few days

Basically its

Sonic tH + Ape Escape + Crash Bandicoot + Pac Man ATGA + Rhythm Heaven

I'm rewriting all the lore so they exist in one universe. Sonic + Pac are planets in space, RH is like the base state of the universe, and the rest take place on earth.

I'm unsure where in the Sonic Timeline they're gonna start, but I am taking inspiration from Little Planet in CD being chained down, his home, and Pac World, get chained down onto the earth. So they slide down the chains, and go to see what's up with the chaos unwinding down below, flow of the universe disrupted completely.

Eggman and Cortex once went to school together, and have now reconnected in adulthood with this new scheme. They end up taking Betrayus and Golvis into their squad after chaining Pac World down, they're a good alternate power source for their schemes... and I think they'd get along well enough.

Specter is also apart of the villain squad, but being a juvenile monkey... he doesn't really realize his place on the totem pole, his ego blinds him and he doesn't realize some of his monkeys are going missing since joining in on this scheme. I think all of the villains have some urge to backstab the others, but Specter is the one they definitely take advantage of. < I have a redemption-esc arc planned out for Specter actually! I really enjoy the dynamic I've given him and Sonic qwq

Uh there's sooo many characters so idk where to begin. But some other dynamics;

Amy seeing her younger self in Ukki Pink, and Pinky.

listen i LOVEE the percy jackson series and its extended universe . BIG FAVORITE so trust me when i say i mean this with the UPMOST love:

gawd damn rick riordan keeps making these little choices in his writing that have me tweaking. like the way this man forgets his own lore. EGREGIOUS. pulls me out of the story. it’ll be the tiniest, most innocuous thing but it gets me everyyy time. happens more especially as you get into the later series, probably bc there’s just more stuff to keep track of. i loved TSaTS but it was especially bad there😭😭 wdym nico started playing Mythomagic in the 1940s ?? why is bianca here ?? and nico, who spends most of his time in the underworld, doesn’t know what the phlegethon is??

it’s other stuff too, i love the series but there so much missing potential for these characters that was just never fully explored.

Jason’s character had SO much potential. hello ???? child soldier trained by wolves since age 2, pressured with unwanted responsibility, forced to suppress emotions, remain stoic, be a leader. Rick could’ve done sooo much with that material. jason should get to break down, as a treat !! instead he comes off as a bit undeveloped, sort of hollow, not nearly as fleshed out as some of the other characters. he’s probably the least-liked main character in HoO, but i firmly believe that’s because Rick didn’t do his character idea justice, not because his concept was ACTUALLY boring. Not even going to go INTO what happened to him in ToA, bc i’ve GOT opinions about that but it’s too much rn.

and don’t get me started on Piper, man. the reveal in Trials of Apollo that [SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER] Piper was queer? GENIUS. SOOO much potential there. but now i’m going back and rereading HoO and it’s making me mad bc we GET Piper’s pov and it’s not foreshadowed or hinted at at all. and it could’ve been SO GOOD you guys😭😭 imagine a version of HoO where Piper’s struggling with Hera-induced comphet, warring with the false memories implanted in her brain vs the way she’s expected to act as a daughter of aphrodite vs the way she actually feels ??? UGH it could’ve been so good. but instead, it’s so obvious that this was not Rick’s original plan for Piper’s character, and it was something he threw in later on. missed opportunity for sure.

in general, a lot of missed opportunities in HoO. So many missed character interaction opportunities, so much that could’ve been delved into but wasn’t! Like I wish we could’ve gotten more about Percy and Annabeth post-Tartarus, see how they’re holding up after that dumper fire.

and i LOVE HoO, it’s my favorite out of the bunch! but i think i love it for what it could be, yk?? anyways yes thanks for coming to my rant, feel free to disagree with me that’s totally fine!! this is so unserious anyways lol just me sharing some thoughts about a series i love

Ahhhh music, i love it and yet im so nonsensically picky about it~~ i will just project aspects of my music taste onto them since it is quite varied in a way... still i dont have much as what the ships themselves could listen cause im more of giving stuff to each character and then see them clash about it heheheh :3c

And thennnn when it comes to the songs themselves, they're either such shallow and surface level prose or the definition of using words recreationally so getting to find a song that a. like and b. bares some semblence to ships/characters i like its very few and far between~~ IN BOTH LYRICS AND MUSIC if its not both then it wont sorry im super duper annoying about it has to be perfect.........

But if there's something im sure about, is that if Lucas Amato was a musician, bro could lit be Chano from Tan Bionica, with his songs about a fickle, neurotic and/or mysterious woman~ fr a lot of his songs feel like they're about her, so i can imagine Lucas thinking of Cybersix when listening to those songs
