HI yes I've been thinking about it on and off all day LOL

It starts so fanfiction meet-cute. Poor overworked Mumbo who would never have any time for romance in his life has everything turned on its head when one day when walking back from work he's caught in the middle of a horrible villain attack. Not just that -- he's captured! Briefly, of course, before Hotguy rescues him.

Mumbo just about dies, right then and there. How pathetic would that have been? Has it really been that long since someone held him? (Yes. It has.)

When Hotguy sets him down he does his typical pull down of his glasses to give Mumbo a little wink and Mumbo almost faints, missing the look of genuine intrigue and affection on Hotguy's face.

Naturally, Mumbo becomes immediately and deeply infatuated with him. Hotguy symbolizes a fantastical escape from Mumbo's kinda shit life. His hours are long, his work isn't that fulfilling, and his roommate is LOUD and back at weird hours of the night, always bumping into things and waking him up. In his head, he lets Hotguy steal him away from that all....

Mumbo obviously thinks he's delusional for this. Hotguy does NOT think about him, because he's just some frazzled student who could hardly say thank you to the guy! But he gets to be a bit parasocial, as a treat. At least until his lease is up.

But Scar does think of him -- a lot. A cringe amount, for a superhero. It's inevitable they run into each other again and Hotguy offers to walk him home. From that moment forward it's over for both of them.

The decision to keep their eventual relationship private is a mutual one -- Scar doesn't want to subject Mumbo to that kind of press, nor does Mumbo really want to deal with it. Of course -- Mumbo emphasizes -- Scar would be worth it, but he would rather not.

A bit torn on where Grian is in this. He's either Cuteguy/another hero, or an extremely hero-critical reporter. Either way, he's definitely Mumbo's roommate who Mumbo is desperate to keep his fantasies/relationship private from.

There's a Mumscarian path here, too. If Grian is Cuteguy, he starts bothering Mumbo as Cuteguy to try and scare him off of Hotguy in an effort to keep Scar somewhat focused on his job. If he is a reporter, he wants to use his roommate's apparent relationship with a superhero to get some kind of dirt on the guy, because there's no way someone like that is all good. He's probably an asshole, Grian thinks.

ALSO a potential socmed angle which is sooo self indulgent for me specifically. I love you outsider pov social media fics. Would involve Mumbo and Scar's relationship leaking and ruining Mumbo's whole entire time because now he can't leave the house without someone stopping him on the street and asking about how Hotguy Really is. Plus sooo many unsolicited opinions about Scar's taste in men. Somewhat warranted.

Hey it’s been a while since I’ve been around to read/message cause life’s been a lot at the start of this semester but I saw your tags and I must say that I Definitely picked up that Grian’s boss thought mumbo was his bf

NICE now i know at least three of y'all caught that. What can I say...it's the 80s and Grian's pretty inconsolably devastated about his close friend whom he not only lives with but moved accros the world with. and they're not even college students or something, they're in their mid-late 20s when many people (especially decades ago) were settling down. it's raising some eyebrows for that guy-

there's like a secret shipping version of this fic but the content of the fic is just completely identical and all i do is change the tagging LOL

^^^ discord message i sent right after i wrote the line in chapter 8 about how grian recognizes the sound of scar's breathing 😭

to that point though, i realized really early into this fanfic that the reason my writing kept straddling this romantic-platonic line in my head (because i was getting shipping vibes from my own work) was mainly because of the depth and intensity of grian's grief. i sort of subconsciously associated this kind of reaction to the loss of romantic partner, not a friend. thereby suggesting it's somehow less traumatic to lose a friend? i realized that my initial vibes automatically weighted romantic relationships as being more important than platonic relationships. and i don't really like that assumption. i don't like that my first reaction was that intense grief had to equal romance, and that platonic should be placed on a lower rung with less intense emotion. they're different relationship dynamics, but they can be equally important in someone's life. there's love in both places.

ANYWAY so after i worked that all out, i doubled down on keeping it a genfic. so, in general as a writer--not just for this au but for my other works--i always want to go all in. i've struggled with holding myself back before and i want to break that mental barrier. i don't want to flinch away from showing any kind of emotion between characters in my work. if that means grian saying mumbo meant everything to him or him saying he wouldn't have survived without scar, well...

anyway y'all do have my permission to read this fic as a grumbo or scarian (or mumscarian if you're optimistic) fanfic if you want to. i don't care! it'd make a great shipping fic. it will stay as a genfic ultimately, though, so if you want to go in with shipping goggles you're not going to get any specific resolution for that kind of relationship

1- I don't have a concrete number on arcs just yet, but at the moment I'm aiming for about 5 or 6 arcs

2- the house is indeed scott's afterlife house!! :D I just upped the scale a bit but I thought it was fitting :3

3- my hope is to make some of the other vampire council members more relevant as the story goes on, yeah!! >:D I'm hoping arc 3 is where we'll start to get into more stuff with the council and I'll be able to introduce more of the council (I've got a mix of original characters and canon characters on there hehe)

4- iskall will make more of an appearance, yes! :D they're mumbo's best friend! gotta get them in on the shenanigans of the mumscarian crew, it's only right

6- so tubbo is about 15 years old! my point of reference is scar moved back to aqua town 15 years before the story began so he could raise tubbo there LOL. he'll be more involved in the story as time goes on too, I've got plans for him :3 I don't have any facts to offer at this moment because my brain is the mushiest pile of brain mush you've ever seen, but I've got some things up my sleeve hehe :3

HELLO GANG i have a funky mumscarian au for u

mumbo is a mage, he uses his powers to build various inventions, and is currently traveling for supplies when he ends up horribly lost in the mountain side when a snowstorm begins to form.

an elf, scar, finds him in his makeshift tent and offers him a place to stay, the pair arriving at a magically hidden manor right as the storm hits.

the manor is warm and inviting, and the two dine together. the place is staffed by allays, and the little creatures are difficult to pry from mumbo's side, chittering away to him in a language he doesn't understand.

scar leads mumbo to a spare bedroom, and bids him goodnight. but just passing midnight, mumbo hears a thump outside his door, and goes investigate. he sees someone cowering at the end of the hall who bolts, and mumbo goes after him.

mumbo spells a trap for the runner that works, and finds himself eye to eye with a frail, pallid young man, eyes full of terror and crackling with magic. he starts babbling away, that the manor isn't what it seems, that mumbo needs to let him go, he's finally going to escape this time, he being tricked—

footsteps could be heard from nearby, and mumbo drags the panicked man with him back to his room and throws the lock on. finally, the full story comes out:

grian was a guest here once, too. five years ago, when the woods led him astray, and a snowstorm was about to hit in the middle of june. scar found him, the way he finds all of his prey, and brought him into his home. grian was enamored by the place, by the allays, and by scar. they shared a meal, and spent the night talking of everything and nothing all at once.

but, eventually, it was time for him to leave. until scar explained that grian didn't have permission to leave.

scar wasn't an elf. he wasn't a vex either. he was a fae. the allays in the manor? all captured, forced by his magic to do his bidding. the manor wasn't "hidden" at all; they had crossed into the fae realm.

both he and mumbo had eaten its food and given scar their true names. they had taken without giving, so scar could pick whatever it was he wanted to receive in return. it was awfully lonely living here all alone, so what scar wanted was simple.

scar wanted a mate. and now, he had two. over the years, he had owned many mates, though they usually didn't last long with all the escape attempts.

grian had lasted the longest. but scar was getting bored of him running away.

there's a knock on the door, and the pair freeze. is mumbo supposed to believe the ravings of a lunatic he's never met before? sure, scar seemed a little uncanny, but what grian was proposing sounded entirely insane.

what changes his mind is grian asking mumbo to spell the door frozen. when mumbo tells grian to do it instead, grian's eyes crackle.

"He's ordered me to not use my magic," Grian hissed. "I can't."

Scar had done a lot of stupid things in his life.

He once had decided to climb a tree when he was six years old, full of vigor and bodily strength unlike how he was now. Mumbo had told him to not do it, to just get going and bring back the things they were supposed to get from the store. But Scar just had to climb it and see the sights from above, to see what was on the horizon and feel the wind blow through his hair.

Yet, when he slipped from the branch he was perched upon, he felt his life rush by in front of own two eyes. The last thing he had heard was Mumbo’s loud scream, calling for an adult.

He had to live with a broken arm for the next six weeks and a lot of scolding not only from their caretaker, but also from Mumbo.

He had tried to do things he shouldn't have, had swam in his mistakes and failures like it was second nature. But this one had to take the cake, out of every single stupid, horrendously stupid thing he had ever done.

Scar had only traveled for around two months, getting acquainted with villages and stables all around the country. While he still got looks while using his aids, he had been getting warm welcomes in almost every place he had gotten to visit up until now. So when he left New Serenne Stable with a light heart, he was already looking forward to meeting the people from Outskirt stable, almost finishing his stops at all the stables around Hyrule Field. With Jelly on his back and his wagon packed, he rode on forwards, passing between the rock formations of Demise’s Breach. While it might have housed monsters and creatures of the night years ago, now it was just a calm path along the side of a small canyon.

He smiled to himself when Jelly purred, turning around to scratch behind her ears. 

The slow trot of the horses at his front was joined by birds flapping their wings, whistling around the small canyon. The wagon behind him shook a couple of times as it ran over some rocks but he trusted it enough to hold itself together. A small chuckle escaped him as Jellie stretched with a big yawn and jumped on his lap, tucking her paws underneath herself and loafing on it. And while he gently scratched her behind her fluffy ears, they all emerged from the small canyon, sunlight beaming right into his face. He soaked in the warmth of it, looking forwards into the field ahead of him with a bright smile. So many more places were waiting with new adventures to find and people to meet. And he would be the one to explore all these new places, all by himself! 

What an exhilarating thing to be able to do!

With all these thoughts swarming around in his mind, he decided to actually take it to heart and explore his surroundings a little bit. The morning was still young and had a lot of time to get to the next stable by nightfall. Fortunately it wasn't that far away, so he had no need to save time in any way. So with that idea in mind, he settled the wagon and his horses down nearby, setting them free to roam and graze as they were resting. Jellie dutifully jumped down to scout out the area for any threats that might be around, leaving Scar in the dust very quickly. He just shook his head fondly and grabbed one of his canes, slowly and carefully stepping down the small ladder that was attached to the side of his carriage. With his cane in one hand and his eyes set on the horizon, he took his first step towards the small hill that was adjacent to the path. 

It was just a normal hill, nothing bad could happen here, right?

Not right, absolutely not right and this was literally the worst thing that could have happened ever!

Scar yelped in pain as he hit the ground, cane snapped in two lying at his side. The side of the cliff that he fell down wasn't even that steep but one wrong step had cost him a perfectly good cane and most of his mobility. And even worse, the creature that he had laid eyes upon from a distance was slowly getting closer, way too close for comfort. 

Myths and legends spoke of these beasts as ferocious and wild, yet with a consciousness and intelligence that rivaled the more humanoid races. And even while Scar knew that most of the madness came from the calamity that happened a long time ago, these creatures were still extremely protective of their territory.

So this is how he would die?

The creature came closer, hooves barely leaving the earth underneath them unscathed. Its mane was colored in the same colors as Jelly’s fur. It strangely reminded him of his own little girl, curled up on his lap… His hand ran through her fur as she purred and he wondered when she jumped down with him. Did she follow him down there? 

Oh no she would die with him. Scar would not be able to live with himself if something happened to Jelly. So he leaned down and wrapped himself around her, wincing slightly as he felt a sting in both his wrist and somewhere on his leg.

The back of his head and neck were fully exposed and he waited with a bated breath. Either for teeth to rip him apart, a hand to wrap around his throat and strangle him, leaving only an empty husk, or maybe even having it use its weapon for a hopefully short lived death.

What he did not expect was for the beast to lean down and stare at him, taking one small sniff of air before making a wounded noise. Suddenly, he felt himself being lifted up gently by the back of his shirt, scrambling to hold onto Jelly as he was placed on the back of the Lynel.

He was having a fever dream wasn't he? 

Maybe it had already killed him and he was hallucinating, but he's pretty sure that he's currently watching the beast gallop off into the open field, leaving the small area with himself mostly unhurt, and even worse, Jelly purring? Yeah he must have really hit his head. Now that he thought of it, the warm substance running down the back of his head must be blood.

It would be completely alright if he took a small nap now, wasn't it?

-Grian’s Involuntary Holiday at Skullcrusher Mountain by SparksNevadas is a delightful Hero AU, with Grian as a hero, Scar as a villain, and things aren’t exactly how Grian always thought they were. Balances humor and emotion super well I love them <3

-No mumscarian rec list is complete without the wonderful MochiWrites- like just. Blanket. In general, MochiWrites. Specifically, they have; their Night Life, a vampire Mumbo, human Grian and fae Scar story; Parrot’s Coven au, which is in its baby stages and features witch Grian; Friend of the Devil (co-written with the lovely Idiodyssey!!), where Scar is the head of a crime ring and Mumbo and Grian work with him; and they have a sweet little oneshot based off of the Mumbo-Scar-Grian reunion called Reunited and it Feels so Good! 

-Beloved Braxiatel, Elycia7 on AO3, has a Persephone and Hades AU called Equinox! Things get worse before they get better. Grian is Hades, Scar is Persephone, and Mumbo is something else entirely. It has a cheating plotline, which I admit kept me from reading it for a while, but it’s so good, and well written, and it plays with my emotions like a marionette. Also, in its baby stages is the Kingdom of Boatem AU- Mumbo is the prince-turned-king of the vampires’ kingdom, Scar is a prince of the vex elves, they’re in an arranged marriage and Grian is Mumbo’s lover. It seems simple enough but as an insider on this AU oohhhh my god- ANYWAY. He also has a oneshot based on the recent Buttercup stuff- So Long as the Stars do Shine. In general, if you visit his AO3 page, I will recommend anything they write all day every day <3

-Em-Mermaid has a couple mumscarian stories, too- Hot Damn, What a Cuteguy featuring Grian being gifted the Cuteguy outfit and Mumbo getting flustered, and A Picnic in the Park! Super cute and super domestic <3 Em has more fics too, so-

-I am Weary With Contending! by an anonymous author, Scar is an elven noble, and Grian and Mumbo are the assassins sent to... well. Assassinate him. But of course, nothing is as it seems here.

-All Goes Outward and Onward, aka the I Need to Start a Garden trilogy, by Hypno-Cat, in which Grian needs help with his lawn and things go wrong. 

-I haven’t read it myself but the IOUniverse by Brownies96 has a good vouch from one of my friends, and is one of the ones I recognize when I hear it; Grian decides to try that meme-scam where you send a fake wedding invite to a bunch of rich people, in which they’ll usually send a gift with their decline, but one (Scar) accepts and now he needs a fake fiance, and Mumbo owes him a LOT of favors.

Okay look I know there are more but these are the ones I thought of off the top of my head, and at this point I can’t remember if certain friends of mine have already posted fics or if I’ve only seen them in discord, so. Friends and anyone who reads mumscarian regularly reading this, please add. I know there are so many more that I’m missing.

a list of things i decided for the au of my costume party fic that i didn't have room to include:

the life series is a series of murder mystery parties because i organized one for a club i was in. please picture jimmy answering questions in a "spooky" voice. scott was the killer at the second party, which was when they were still dating. it was an awkward ride home.

HCU = hermitcraft university

ESU = empires smp university

jimmy and grian's old high school = evo smp

empires seasons are d&d campaigns. jimmy played the codfather, a water genasi druid, and the sheriff, a warforged paladin. if i think about anyone else i will go crazy and write a d&d!au

yes there were less than 26 people at the party and jimmy still only got one option. everyone else got multiple options. grian just likes fucking with jimmy

mumbo, grian, and scar are dating. mumscarian supremacy <3

jimmy is a little in love with his ex (scott) because every gay person at college that i know is.

they had a fairly clean breakup and they're friends again now. scott looks out for jimmy because he's basically adopted jimmy as his personal meow meow

grian is an HCU campus cryptid and regularly featured on the school's reddit page

scar is the only one i had multiple costume ideas for: mike wazowski (as suggested by @quaranmine ), a zookeeper, or jellie

tango's boots are steel-toed and he got them for an internship, because im an engineering intern rn and i love my steel-toe boots they're such stompers and i Will be wearing them in normal life

every time grian throws a party, tango, etho, and impulse (computer or electrical engineers) mess with grian's TV or wifi to fuck with mumbo (computer engineering)

jimmy's a lightweight and likes drinks that taste like juice because he's just like me fr

grian's balcony is Like That because my old apartment balcony was like that. my roommate called me to call me out for it lol

tango's boardgame is, of course, Decked Out

joel says he chose "etho stan" as a costume to fuck with bdubs. lizzie says it's because he has a crush on etho. they're both right.

grian let him get away with it because either he and bdubs would fight or he and etho would make a move. free entertainment

the "kicked dog expression" line is because it's worked before. joel has such a soft-spot for jimmy. it's the older brother instinct

14. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

right off the bat mymercilar resistance, We want to finish it cause the story was really fun but we've lost all motivation after chapter 2 wndnd

Theres a hanahaki au with Scarian we wrote awhile ago-- We still have some hope that we'll finish it but atm we haven't gotten back to writing it

And then also the Dp writing thing we psoted here with Danny Jack and Maddie-- The bits we posted were chapter 1 but i have no clue if we'll actually write chapter two (theres still hope ofc!)

15. What are your writing strengths?

Definitely scenery and descriptions in general, we are an avid "show no tell" kind of writer when we write, like genuinely its so rare for us to just say what a character is doing ABSABBS

Also when we actually get motivation, We end up hyperfixating on the writing and get alot done BWBDB usually entire sections/pov bits

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue. Specifically the bits after it, We absolutely hate "he said" n the other versions of that because its very redundant, but its very hard to find words that fit that dont repeat, and theres only so much "action while they speak" you can do before it gets to much

iirc that was literally the main reason we lost passion for writing the Mymercilar resistance

Another thing is motivation, We have to be in a very specific mood to write anything-- this also goes for animating-- if we aren't in that mood, it is very difficult to actually write things out

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

As long as theres a translation after or somewhere in the notes were good ^^

3. What fandoms do you write for?

So far, all my published fics are for Danny Phantom. It's a fandom that's near and dear to my heart and my favorite to write for. I've written fanfiction for myself in a lot of different fandoms over the years. Miraculous Ladybug, Mega Man (Star Force, Battle Network) and Fire Emblem are a few. (Will these ever see the light of day? Probs not, lol)

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?  5. Frayed Ends - 37 kudos - Jazz and Maddie are fighting more often. Jack wants to reach out and help his family. 4. The Same Blood - 45 kudos - Maddie and Jack try to help a sick girl that collapsed in front of their house. They don't know what to make of her condition. Danny wants to help.

3. Returned Home - 49 kudos - Maddie finds Danny at home after he disappeared ten months ago.

2. The Broken Pieces Left Behind - 66 kudos (tie) - Maddie knew what the portal did to Danny. If she could create something that essentially turned him into a ghost, she could figure out a way to fix all of it. Even if she hasn't made any progress in the past two months, she'll keep trying. She didn't account for what Danny wanted. 1 . What's Out of Out Control - 66 kudos (tie) - Danny thought he had it under control. He thought he could finally hang out like they used to always do. Tucker could feel the rift between them widening. It wasn't getting smaller anytime soon.

5. Do you respond to comments?

I try to! There were a few comments from my two earlier fics that I never responded to and it's already been so long and I feel like I ended up putting it off too long to say anything now 😓But I'm so so thankful for all the comments I receive! I never thought anyone would read my work, let alone comment on it. I'm always between two modes of 'author commentary' and 'screaming thank you and running away'.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Lol, I love my angsty stuff and there are so many different flavors of angst, so it's hard to pick just one. I'd say the piece I aimed to write for Angst Fest, The Broken Pieces Left Behind, might be it. It ends on a rather hopeless note for the Fenton family that even I don't know how to make everything better for them

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably Home for a Cat. It was for a Ectoberhaunt prompt that I was absolutely stumped on. So I decided someone was going to adopt a cat by the end of the fic.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Ahh, so I actually posted a fic on FFN wayyy back when I was in high school. I remember it being received pretty well but I got a really rude comment on a simple spelling mistake. Back then, I was just told I had dyslexia a few years prior and I had some really bad self-esteem issues tied in with that. So, yeah, that comment basically made me terrified to ever show my work to anyone ever.

It's been over ten years since then and I wanted to actually get over that fear. I impulsively decided to do Angst Fest with the mindset that no one would even look at what I posted. Not only did people look, everyone has been so kind!!!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

lkdajldkf, nope. I get flustered trying to write basic romance and having two characters hold hands, lmao. Major props to those that can, it's definitely a skill that takes time to master just like any other genre.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I haven't.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Also haven't had this either.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, but it seems like a lot of fun.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Back when the show was airing, Amethyst Ocean (Danny/Sam) was my go to. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers tropes and it's really nostalgic for me. But, I don't really read a lot of shippy things for Danny Phantom, so ships don't make or break a fic for me.

If I'm looking to read romance, the whole Love Square (MariChat my beloved) with Miraculous Ladybug will always be great. Even if I jumped ship on the show around season 2 or 3 and I have no clue what they're doing now, lol.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I honestly have so many WIPs that are unfinished on my computer from over the years. Maybe a super old one that I titled 'Phantoms in the Daylight'. Angst once more with Character Death as the main pain point. I like the beginning but oh boy, does it get sloppy and confusing real quick. I'd need serious outlining energy put into it if I'd ever want to salvage it and I just don't have it in me.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue! Give me two blorbos and I'll make them talk forever.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Scenery and description. I love the dialogue portion so much that I end up running into the floating heads in an empty room problem in the first drafts of my fics. My first round of edits are dedicated to making sure I have a scene and grounding characters into it. And then I have to go back later to make it not feel so robotic sounding.

(Also a weakness but more as in fic than writing. Summaries and Titles. I stare at my drafts on AO3's editor for at least half an hour trying to pull something together, lol)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I can probably talk about this for hours, lol. I absolutely love foreign languages, especially when it comes to linguistics. So, I'll try to be brief, lmao. Short answer: depends on the fic but normally no. I already spend so much time fussing over the word choice/slang/formality/dialect characters use in my native language. I don't have a good enough grasp on another language for it to sound natural to the reader. ("They would not fucking say that" is my internal monologue during dialogue edits, lol)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

It's a toss up between Pokemon and Danny Phantom. I first learned about fanfiction from a friend who showed me FFN for the Pokemon fics. I looked around the site and found all of the Danny Phantom fics soon after and got hooked on those. I started writing around then and it would have been for one of those two.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Hard to chose one! Writing technicality wise, I'm proud of how What Remains on the Table turned out. I consider description my weak point, so the original draft was 0 dialogue with very stiff descriptions. I was able to edit it to really practice my environmental storytelling. (Although, please mind the tags if you click the link as it does deal with the dissection topic)

Never letting a text go unanswered. Having very few boundaries when it comes to Scar, perfectly content to just chill in each others' personal space when watching TV or even just hanging out. Literally everyone around them thinking they're dating. MUMBO FINDING OUT EVERYONE THINKS THEY'RE DATING when Grian asks him if Scar is actually okay with this "arrangement" because he's "acting weird" and "maybe he realized he wasn't as okay with sharing his boyfriend as he thought he would be" and Mumbo just blue screening like "Wait. What??" and just jhvfdjkjkfd

"impulse hearing scar say he'd take the heads of the soup group" imumscarian thoughts :0 I have So Many impulse thoughts just like. in general, at any given point. He is so earnest, but also SO awkward and concerned with what the people he cares about think of him. He just wants to do his best for his loved ones and get their approval. as you can imagine, his 3rd Life pov broke my HEART oh my god

So he starts the resistance, right? Because grumbot - the robot child of two of the people he loves - told him to. (If that isn't how it happens in the AU ignore that thought asdhdjskfl) And the other person he loves, LOVES mischief and causing problems and undermining authority. Scar would love the idea of going against Ren, right?? And so would Grian, if he were not missing and/or possessed! They can get this distracting king business out of the way and get back to figuring out what's up with Grian ASAP, and Impulse will be instrumental in getting that accomplished, and his boyfriends/future boyfriends are going to be SO proud of him -

And then he sees Scar standing at the king's side. With the king. Willing to kill Impulse at the drop of a hat without question or mercy. And seemingly not bothered at all anymore by the weird things going on with Grian. It's like a punch to the gut.

All Impulse wants is for Scar to say "great work Impulse!" and see that beautiful grin directed at him. Instead all he gets to hear is a triumphant "hOtGuY!" shout and the sight of a cold smirk as one of the men he loves more than anything tries to kill him because a false king said so :(

impulse is So loyal to the people he loves, like Ride or Die kind of loyal.

and y’know, imumscarian have all known each other for a while. living in boatem only strengthened their feelings. they all probably became aware of their feelings during s8, maybe even had plans to confess too, yk? but with the impending moon crash…. it just never happened

so enter s9, and it’s a world of new opportunities! mumscarian are all basing near each other, and impulse is with the soup group for fun pranks and shenanigans (and maybe pearl and gem have plans to help impulse with his crushes….).

and things start off pretty well! they’re all hanging out and flirting and oh someone should make a move, really.

but then ren becomes king and things start changing.

I think impulse is still told by grumbot to start a resistance, and he’s absolutely ready to recruit scar and mumbo. he tried to recruit grian, infamous “starts wars”, but he laid out a Very detailed plan of resisting the resistance.

and then things start happening and Oh. Oh scar is siding with ren. and oh man, I have to watch a bit of scar’s stuff with ren to really nail a reason Why he joins the king… but I can Promise you that impulse isn’t going to have a fun time. (maybe he’s going to spend some time convincing scar to join the resistance… 👀)

I've FINALLY fully caught up on Night Life and my fucking god. I'm so excited. My skin is BUZZING. The details in every single chapter and the descriptions are.. good lord. I feel like I'm sitting in the room with them, watching everything play out. Their voices and emotions crisp and clear and *there*. It's fascinating. Your worldbuilding abilities are extremely admirable, and you are one of the very few writers that not only inspire me to write, but make me WANT to write. I want to create whenever I read your stories, because they aren't even fics anymore. They're STORIES. They time, blood, heart, and emotion within every word and every letter is visible and on display. Your enjoyment of your aus and the patience and care and TIME put into your writing is impeccable. It's beautiful. It's astonishing. And every time I see you talk about your aus, or post a chapter, my skin buzzes with excitement. I get to be able to be someone who reads your stories, I get to live inside of them, I get to be on the edge of my seat, I get to be thinking about them, and I get to be able to COMMENT!! I get to share my thoughts, my theories, my questions, I get to spill out the water in my brain for you bc of the pure curiosity and wonder and WHIMSY you bring.

songbird is absolutely my biggest passion project I have — arguably even bigger than crime au ever was. it has elements of everything I enjoy in a fantasy story, and the au itself allows for me to implement more of my anime background in story telling. which is kind of how I learned to world build the way that I do? so much of my writing is influenced by anime and songbird is an au where that really gets to shine and 🥺💕💕

there’s so many elements in the au I love, like mumscarian’s dynamics, mumbo and scar’s backstories, grian’s character growth, the main themes of humanity and love and grief and acceptance and—

one of my very good friend’s told me once that my passion and love for songbird can be felt through what I write in the au and 🥺 I think that’s the greatest way I can really express how much I love this universe because I just don’t have the proper words
