I keep thinking about Mage Viktor
Imagine the number of Jayce's he's interacted with. Not every timeline ends with Jayce being brought to him by the anomaly. But each time it does only serves as a painful reminder of the man he lost. Who he will keep saving as a child again and again.
Now imagine one of the Jayce's entering the world ending timeline. The first to fall down the chasm. Mage Viktor hadn't predicted that outcome. He goes to check on him, albeit from afar. Until then the point of bringing him there was showing him the horrors of tampering with the arcane.
But Jayce doesn't survive the fall.
Viktor feels a devastation he didn't know he was still capable of feeling.

heya!! Hope you’re doing well, especially after the third act of season 2 of Arcane (I’m still sobbing over here. It was absolutely beautiful but also wtf at the same time)
I genuinely just need some fluff after all of what happened in that third act (super sorry for the double request btw—) and was wondering if you could do Mel reuniting with the reader either once she returned to Piltover or after all of what happened? I also super loved the last Mel fic you wrote where reader was basically her bodyguard. But yeah, either way just super fluffy reunion with Mel and the reader (Gender neutral is preferred please). Please and thank you
sorry for the shortness!! the words aren’t flowing today 😭
warnings: mentions of torture, blood, and death
You should have known something was wrong. Should have sensed it.
You’d been trained since birth. Weakness was beaten out of you—you were carved into the best of the best. Mel was your responsibility, your life. You were supposed to protect her, not the other way around
Everything with Enora happened so fast. Vines, black petals, thorns whipping across your arms and face as Mel screamed.
“Don’t touch them—DON’T!”
Golden light, skin shredding, and you were left alone, dripping blood on her office floor with Mel nowhere to be found.
You were ready to die when you dragged yourself to Ambessa. Useless, pathetic, she used every word and made sure you felt it. She refused to kill you, throwing you back into her personal army to get some last use out of you.
But you no longer belonged to the Noxian queen, you’d always been her daughter’s. And this war? It’s not what she would’ve wanted.
You couldn’t find Jayce when you escaped, so you kept close to the council room, getting what intel you could from enforcers and dodging scouts.
The council members leftover were scattered, warped by Ambessa’s ideas or keeping to the sidelines. The city was a shadow of what it used to be after the attack.
Back in the office where you’d lost her, you stood by the desk wondering, hoping. Surely, if the Black Rose wished to kill her they would’ve made a spectacle of it. Ambessa would have solid proof of her death by now, but there hadn’t even been a whisper.
Your head turned, eyes narrowing as you slid to the door, brandishing a dagger as you waited for the footsteps to reach the door.
A hooded figure slipped in, but the gasp as you grabbed them had every assassin bone in your body melting.
“Mel?” you choked, dropping your weapon.
She turned in your hold, the white hood falling to reveal her features. She was different, but it was her.
“Hello, dearest,” she sighed, smiling as she pulled you into an embrace.
“You’re alive,” you whispered, holding her. “What’s all these markings? Are you okay?”
“It’s a long story.” She looked around the office, eyes watering. “I’m glad they left you alone… Enora…”
“I know,” you said.
“Tell me everything,” she looked at you, eyes widening as she brought a hand to your neck—a fresh scar. “What…”
“Your mother,” you shook your head, “I was ready to die after losing you. She refused.”
“But you’re not with her?”
“None of this is what you wanted. Piltover is falling apart, people have disappeared and Ambessa has found her power source and army in Viktor. I finally heard Jayce is somewhere, but I have yet to find him.”
“Well start there,” she decided, but you grabbed her wrist before she could make for the door.
“Mel, what happened?” you ushered.
“Mother has lied about many things, including my roots,” she sighed, holding up her gold lined hand. The intricate design flared with light as she waved her fingers. “I’m a born mage, an empath.”
“Magic,” you whispered.
“Magic,” she agreed, smiling as you ran a finger up the tattoos.
“Whatever you need me to do, I’m here,” you promised, nodding to her.
“As long as you’re by my side, that’s all I need,” she promised, pulling you into another hug. “Together, we’re unbeatable, dearest.”

So remember in season 1, Viktor has visions directly given by the Arcane and that's how he comes up with the idea of the Hexcore - and he also says that "the Arcane speaks through mages". So, even back in season 1, the idea that Viktor has been chosen by the Arcane was already alluded to! He was always on his way to becoming a mage, even before the Hexcore and the merge.
Do you think Jayce subconsciously felt it? Jayce, who was always so fascinated by magic that he was ready to commit suicide rather than live without it, who immediately told Viktor how "beautiful" magic was and then used that very word to describe Viktor himself in season 2 - did he realise that his fascination was always with Viktor in particular, do you think?
Oh man, Anon, there's SO many ways to answer this, where do I begin.
1 ) I wish we got more of what magic means to Jayce, because the tastes we get are so tantalizing and btw, I think the show gave us the right amount, it's for us to explore in fic and stuff after, but the implications are SO JUICY.
I absolutely headcanon (with evidence) that Jayce's evolution into wanting to create Hextech went like this:
Jayce as a kid: I want to be the mage who saved us! Look at my drawing of myself as a mage with a magic HAMMER just like my dad has, as the perfect fusion of everything I want to be when I grow up! :D
Jayce as a teen: I'm crushed to learn I have zero innate magical ability BUT I've still got this hammer and an entire upbringing as a member of a family of tool makers. What if there's a tool out there that would let me be a mage in another way? I will call it HEXTECH!! :D
Jayce as an adult: Now I have a degree, and a patron, and I have to be very careful about letting people know about Hextech because I'm from a city that was founded on a hatred of mages, so it needs to be presented to the world as TECHNOLOGY as meant for the BETTERMENT OF OTHERS. I can't be selfish, I have to draw inspiration from the mage who saved me by making magic about helping others. But deep down, part of me will always be that kid who didn't want to have to unlock magic with technology, who always wanted to just be the mage. Magic was secondary, the Mage was always the true first love, the true inspiration that changed my life, and I have been chasing that high ever since.
2 ) But one reason I wish we had gotten to explore this just a little more (cuz I'm an addict not because it would be a better story) is because I think there's a bit of an inherent tragedy to Jayce always wanting to be the mage and, in the process, falling in love with not one but two people who have the Arcane speaking through them?
Then you can also sort of loop it back around to a rather common queer awakening which is, "Do I want this person or do I want to be them?" and for years, Jayce thinking he wants to be the mage but once he's an adult, realizing part of that feeling was love, that he wants to be with the mage.
(And just to be super duper clear, Viktor rescued Jayce and then bounced out of there, immediately, I see Jayce discovering his feelings for the mage as being like a very early-days moment of inspiration that planted itself in his psyche and then years and years later, when he began to think about things like love for the first time, maybe then part of him realized that what he's mistaken as love for magic or Hextech was always love for the mage who saved him, on some level. I just want to be super duper clear that you can have an awakening moment as a child, something that will later define what you want out of life, without it necessarily being romantic at that point in life because I've seen some people be weird about it and I don't think that's what's happening there even if I think it's an element and now I'm rambling OK MOVING ON)
So Jayce has now canonically been in love with two mages and yeah, I think that is very much playing into my take and what we see in canon, he loves magic, but he loves the mage more, and maybe part of what worked as attraction for him was that he could feel the Arcane in them.
But I also wonder if spending so many years trying to find a practical, technological, scientific way to access magic obscured to Jayce the fact that it WAS magic? Like Viktor is right, they're treating magic like a tool, JAYCE is treating magic like a tool, because he comes from a family of TOOL MAKERS. To expand Hextech, they needed to think like mages. And Viktor is the first one to let the Arcane in, to let the Arcane set the course instead of them trying to bend it to their will (which maaaay have been a bad idea, I think the Arcane is way more complicated than that, yin-and-yang, requiring balance and they were actually meddling with forces they couldn't understand, clearly).
So to go back to your question:
1 ) Jayce thought it was the magic that was beautiful but it was ALWAYS about the Mage for him, and he got a fixation on mages after that which even HE isn't fully aware of.
2 ) I don't think Viktor was always destined to be the Mage, but that's a personal preference, I'm not a big fan of "magic genetics" in general and I vastly prefer systems where magic and fate is a choice. So I actually find it MORE BEAUTIFUL that Viktor becomes the Mage because of Jayce's love, because Jayce brought him in on Hextech, in the cycle of Viktor then taking the magic Jayce gave him to go back and save Jayce and inspire him with magic, like that's so tasty for me. But I also think sure, deep down, there was always a subliminal attraction to the Mage which could have played into Jayce's attraction to the person of Viktor, because they're the same person

Hey, Jayvik Nation! Which of these fic ideas would you be most interested in seeing first?
I have so many Jayvik requests and ideas and don't know where to start. I am still looking for new ideas, though! So if you have any, comment them, please! My DMs and Asks are also open!
Also, let me know how R-rated you want these because I feel like most of them, not all of them, could range from pretty PG to... Well, that last one. Yeah. That's just smut. Thanks again for the help!

I honestly have so many vilco - viktorxsilco ideas that I have no idea what to do with them.
1. Trans Viktor finds out he's pregnant the night Jayce sleep/chooses Mel. Viktor goes to Zaun and Silco being the opportunist he is offers protection. Much to both their disbelief they fall in love.
2. Commune Viktor brings Silco back to life and Silco swears boardline religious loyalty to Viktor. (This fic is on AO3)
3. Cis Viktor is quite on the inside but that because on the inside he is an obsessive/possessive partner and his attention turns out to Silco
4. Mage Viktor is arrested by the council and jealous Jayce wants Viktor - Silco sets fire to all of Piltover to get Viktor back
5. Viktor and Silco are destined soul mates in every life time but the personified fates literally keep them from interacting in some universe due to their love being either the greatest thing or the worst doomed tragedy
6. Viktor and Silco have a breeding kink and the fic can very on which one is trans
7. Viktor deserves all the love and honestly so does Silco - so there's a viktorxsilcoxjayce
8. Something happens while experimenting in the lab and the realities of each other start to blur together causing confusion for everyone involved
9. Viktor jayce and Mel are somehow thrown back to the past ( pre rebellion on bridge) and Viktor and young Silco fall in love and Viktor tells silco to find him in the future

hey, so i got an idea and i’m thinking mage viktor, like the one jayce sees in the apocalypse alt timeline. but in this scenario we’re a jayce figure and viktor’s kinda, somber or sad, i guess, about having to send us back. because it’s like, his version of us is a statue thing, you know? he’s all by himself in the alt timeline, it’s tragic really.
anyways, thanks in advance for xx
I’ve seen so many fics/prompts like this and it’s so so so sad!!!! I seriously wouldn’t have blamed mage!Viktor if he wanted to keep Jayce with him in the alternate timeline. I probably would have in his place.
I’ll work on the bot soon! Thank you for the request <3

Summary: A novice mage is recruited to the Hextech gang to help surpass a roadblock in their research
Chapter One
This bed is atrociously comfortable. The soft, plush pillow where your head rests, the heavy and thick duvet which weights you down into the memory foam mattress. This whole bed is dedicated to making your stay as enjoyable as possible, and you despise it. Being used to mattresses so hard and lumpy they might as well be metal or a simple sleeping bag draped over grass and dirt meant that when you were given the rare opportunity to rest in a plush environment you simply couldn’t relax. Even the temperature was set perfectly, you were neither shivering nor sweating. The room was pitch black, as opposed to the usual fire or candlelight that you’d normally dose off to. And the worst part was that there was no noise, so silent to the point that your ears were ringing. Two hours were spent tossing and turning, constantly having to move because one side felt itchy or the duvet was pressing too hard against you so that you couldn't breathe. What was meant to make you slumber had instead made you incredibly claustrophobic.
Soon the sky went from pitch black to the faintest deep blue. The sun was rising and so were the bags under your eyes. When you first came to Piltover Academy that morning, you noticed the lush courtyard which students often used a  take a break from rigorous studying. The greenery was magnificent, so much so that bushes that lined the brick path seemed so large that you could fit your entire body in them. That's when you were struck with an idea. While folding up your heavy duvet, you hoped that there weren’t too many night guards patrolling the halls. You stacked a pillow on your duvet and headed towards the lavish courtyard. You didn’t need an extra blanket to place under you as the fabric in your hands was so large and thick it could in case your entire body and protect you from the harsh soil. Getting outside was easy, you’d memorized the way when you first walked through the doors as you recognized you’d most likely be using the courtyard space often.
You walked the grey brick path and picked a bush that would offer you the most comfort, and when you finally settled yourself inside you immediately conked out. What helped your sleep the most was the outside ambiance that surrounded you. Even when sunlight seeped through the leaves you slept, up until you heard frantic footsteps accompanied by bickering male voices approach your makeshift bed.
“I told you not to scare her off!” You recognized the voice, Jayce Talis, the one that invited you to the academy in the first place.
“I scared her off? You were the one talking the most, she looked exhausted, and you probably strained her further with your stories.” That one was Viktor, the partner of Talis, and the less… ecstatic of the two. When you first arrived at the gates, Talis was practically bouncing off the walls having only ever met a mage once in his life. He shared how when he was a little boy he and his mother were stuck in a snowstorm and would’ve died had not a hooded mage appeared and transported them to safety. You didn’t have the heart to tell him that your knowledge of magic was limited and could be used for basic healing purposes only. While you and Talis chatted, a lean pale man supporting his weight on a cane tailed you both and hadn’t said a word until you reached your designated room. Only stating his name and handing you your key. ‘Don’t lose it’ he told you. You stuck your head above the bush to observe the two bickering.
“Well excuse me for having the decency to actually try be nice to her. Don’t think I didn’t notice how quiet you were being. Seriously would it kill you to develop some social skills.”
“Jayce I- Ohmygod!” Viktor's voice became shrill when he finally noticed your head. Talis’ gaze immediately snapped to where Viktor was looking, his expression could only be read as ‘What the Fuck?’.
“I'm sorry I was uh-” You shambled your way through the shrub, your duvet dragging along in one hand and your pillow in the other “I was having trouble sleeping, so I came out here to clear my head.” Leaves were tangled in your hair and Jayce’s expression held while Viktor sighed. You couldn’t tell whether the heat in your face was from embarrassment or the sun's rays. Even if you spent most of your life camping with little to no people around, you knew that the situation the men had found you in was more than abnormal. Jayce clapped his hands together as if to snap himself out of his head which startled both you and Viktor.
“Well then, shall I show you to the cafeteria? If we rush we might be able to make it before breakfast stops.” As you begin to follow Talis, you hear a soft voice pipe up.
“I’ll meet you both in the lab.” The sound of Viktor's cane echoes through the halls behind you as Jayce leads you to the cafeteria.
                                                                                –
Breakfast consisted of cold scrambled eggs and bacon. Jayce left you alone to eat and, like Viktor, he would meet you in the lab. Since you were so late the cooks could only scrape together what was left behind by bustling students. Once your stomach was left full but unsatisfied, you stumbled your way through cool brightly lit halls. Piltover Academy consisted of everything you weren’t used to. Having spent so much time in towns less fortunate it was quite the change in pace. The underside of the city however was what you more so understood. While still large and crowded the streets were filled with sick and elderly unable to work, that is what was familiar to you. You first heard of the Undercity of Piltover through your patients. People who you had healed and begged for you to travel to the city of mines and gas, telling stories of loved ones who traveled there for work only to be injured by the incredibly low-quality safety guidelines. You of course obliged seeing as how you traveled wherever there were people that were in desperate need of help. It didn’t take long for word to pass through the undercity and into the privileged few who got to live on the upside of the city. Word of the mage performing miracles on the injured and sick made it to Piltovers top University. And there Jayce had written a frantic letter to you, requesting immediate aid towards the magical project that would help the city for years to come. You, having the same drive to help people as the man who wrote the letter decided to come in and check out what this ‘Hextech’ was. You knew nothing of science and engineering, and while technically a mage your academic knowledge in magic was minimal. However, if there was even a smidge of contribution you could provide for the safety of PIltover then it was at least worth a look in. You finally made it to the lab, had you understood the layout of the building more it would’ve cut your time in half. You opened the large doors that house what the two men were passionate about and- holy shit.
“Ah, you're here. Did you enjoy your breakfast?” Talis had noticed you first, as he said his greeting Viktor looked up from the little contraption he was working on and stared at you through his welding goggles. You were way out of your element here, way more than you thought you’d be. The large room was lined with counters, and space that wasn’t filled with intricate gadgets and gizmos were scattered pages lined with complicated notes and equations you couldn’t even begin to comprehend. Yea no, there was no way in hell you were ever going to be able to help these guys.
“Um, yes the food was fine.” You began trudging your way through the machines, Viktor continued his welding, and Talis strides toward you. The tan man led you to the blackboard where he begins to explain in detail the goals of Hextech. They have unlocked the power of magic through the usage of runes and machines and now had hit a roadblock on how to direct that magic into becoming an energy source. You felt dizzy, you didn’t even specialize in the type of magic they were using. Spirit Magic, the one you used, was unlocked by sensing the energy flowing through one's body. Technically, magic flows through everyone, it's what fuels every species that resides in this world. However, it takes time to even be able to be aware of its existence and even more time to learn how to manipulate it to speed up the healing process. That was what you did, it was what your mentor managed to teach you before they passed on. So for this scientist to look you straight in the eye and ask how to direct magical energy into powering these intricate machines was just… you don’t even know what it was. Clearly, these men were inexperienced with magic seeing as they thought a spirit mage would somehow be able to help with engineering.
“Viktor, do you think you could help with the explanation of our inventions?” Talis nods his head toward the Russian. Viktor raises his head from his gadget again.
“Of course.” He says. He grabs the cane that was set beside him and raises himself from his stool. The sound of his joints popping was accompanied by a groan and you winced when he fully straightened his back. You didn’t even have to do an assessment to know that there were many energy points in his body that needed to be cleared.
“Now if you’ll follow me here, I’ll show you the latest versions of our machines” You stopped him before he began vain explanations.
“I’m sorry,” You began, both the men had their attention on you. “Viktor, Mr. Talis. It was fantastic meeting you both and being able to see your work but,” Light immediately began to drain from Talis’ eyes while Viktor listened intently. “I’m afraid there's not much I can do to help you. Mixing magic and Engineering is way out of my league and the energy I use is called spirit magic. I can’t even imagine explaining it with equations as it's mainly conducted through the soul and body”  You rub your hands together and your mouth upturns into an awkward grin. You felt bad, you really did. The duo seemed to really be dedicated to improving lives and perhaps if you were a more talented mage you could help them.
“Please, call me Jayce. Mr. Tallis is much too formal.” Jayce begins, Viktor closes his eyes and sighs before walking toward the worn blackboard. “Viktor and I appreciate you coming to see us, even if nothing came of it.” He places his hand on your back and begins to lead you out the door.
“Perhaps there is a way she can help us.” A soft Russian accent sounds through the room and both you and Jayce turn toward Viktor. “You said you specialize in Spirit magic, yes?” The light tapping of his cane synchronizes with his steps as he walks toward you.
“Specialize is a strong word but I suppose you can say that.” He’s now in front of you and holy shit his eyes are gold that’s so cool.
“I believe that as scientists we must take every opportunity to study the unknown, even if it's not what we are working on.” He leans more weight on him, both hands now gripping the handle. “I admit we have reached a dead end in our research, pressure from the council is getting heavier by the day and we promised something big in terms of our inventions. If we can get a fresh pair of eyes on our work, a mage's eyes no less, then perhaps we would be able to surpass this roadblock.”  You know only the fundamentals of spirit magic, and this man wants you to teach it? To two renowned scientists no less?
“I'm not necessarily going to say no, but I am going to warn you that my knowledge is a lot more limited than it may appear.” As you’re saying this Jayce stands behind Viktor.
“Trust me, considering the situation we’re in we’ll take just about anything,” Jayce says with a laugh. Viktor nudges his partner.
“It sounds like you're saying this woman is not capable in her field of work,” The Russian says.
“It’s not that I just- Viktor come on.”
“Now who is the one who needs social skills.” Jayce scoffs while Viktor smirks. Of course, you’ll say yes to the offer, most of the injuries that people sustained in the undercity were from poor working conditions. People were sick from chemical spills, infected amputation wounds, and just downright too elderly to be working so hard. If helping Hextech build better futures would permanently reduce the number of people in need then the choice is obvious.
“I’ll offer whatever knowledge that I can.” You declare, even with a face so pale color seemed to come into Viktor's features.
“We truly appreciate your help, if there's anything that we can provide to make your stay here more comfortable we’d be more than happy to provide it,” Jayce exclaims.
“Yes of course,” Viktor nods along with Jayce. “For example, if the room was inadequate we’ll do what we can to make it more..” Viktor gestures his hand as if trying to find the right word. You’re reminded of the incident this morning. You had hoped they just forget about your stupidity.
“THAT'S quite alright,” you interrupt him “The room is fine, I look forward to working with you two.”

RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPS.
Lucky for everyone (bad for me) my creative brain has the attention span of a goldfish and likes to bounce around wildly between ideas with the speed and violence of a ball during an olympic-level ping pong tournament. I have so many WIPs (beyond the ones I've already published most of) that I'm working on at any given time it is physically painful.
Warning: Very few of these will actually see it to a publishable state but they're all around 2-5k words and I work on them at least once a week which is my cutoff for considering something a WIP vs. a Stupid Little Daydream I Had In The Shower. (I also name my fics stupid things because my bf will make fun of me anyway so I do it to myself first).
1) 5+1 Aiden Helping and Getting Help (Fathers+sons, brothers+sisters, lovers+friends): continuation of Fathers and Sons . An examination of Aiden’s fucked up relationships with the people in his life. This installment revolves around Kiyan and Dragonfly.
2) 🎶How low can you go? H-how Low can you go??? 🎶 - Post Deidre Eskel whump ft: Guilt! Self hatred! Substance abuse! Overdosing! Medical ptsd! Complete and total lack of self worth! Reflections on the trauma of tradition! Isolation! No one will ever love me! Etc.
3) I Want Us to Eat Well - Jean's love language is cooking. Locke's love language is actually eating what Jean cooks for him. Them being domestic in a series of whumpy vignettes (unrequited romantic love but The Most platonic love)
4) Fire! *electric organ riff* - Mage! Eskel AU (Geralt/Eskel).
5) Walking Ghost Phase - Viktor's slow descent into insanity. (The ubiquitous Jayvik divorce fic)
6) Boys on the Wire - the VDL prequel fic I've been working on for over a year and is now an over 200k word monster of me torturing some wolf-witcher superspy children for my own amusement.
7) o no o no o no o fuk - High school AU that is terrible but with which I am in love (gen wolf boys. Lots of Eskel coping with oldest sibling trauma)
Tagging @alllthequeenshorses @pudentilla @theflirtmeister @justleaf and whoever the hell else wants to do this. I have no idea who else I'm mutuals with writes (because I'm a horrible person, not because I don't care or want to know!)

Interview given to The Severus Snape and Hermione Granger Shipping Fan Group.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/199718373383293/
Hello CorvusDraconis and welcome to Behind the Quill, thank-you so much for sitting down with us to chat.
You’re a well known and beloved figure in the SS/HG community for your many stories - including a personal favourite of mine, A chance for happiness.
Okay, let’s jump right in. What's the story behind your pen name?
I have always had a fascination for the shiny things and the Northwest Coast depictions of Raven the Trickster/Creator, and, I tend to hoard (and get super protective) of my art supplies. Corvids have always been a positive sign in my life. They tend to show up when I’m feeling down and engage in funny antics in the yard. As for dragons, I’ve always had a love for them and think the Western depiction of them as dangerous beasts with no mind but for hoarding treasure and killing people only to be slain by a knight quite despicable.
Which Harry Potter character do you identify with the most?
Severus, actually. I see a lot of my life in his. Hardships, challenges, bullying— trying to be something better and later wondering about unwise decisions. I have a very similar dislike for dunderheads, but I do not share his inclination to denude rosebushes of their petals. Do you have a favourite genre to read? (not in fic, just in general) I have always preferred fantasy and sci-fi.
Do you have a favourite "classic" novel?
I am not sure if you would call it a classic novel, but grew up on all things Tolkien (and even puzzled through the Silmarillion at the grand age of seven), and have a special place in my heart for Watership Down. While I’ve read pieces like War and Peace, Iliad, Ulysses, Pride and Prejudice, Grapes of Wrath, Moby Dick, Great Gatsby, Little Women, Catcher in the Rye, Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn, Scarlet Letter, Don Quixote, To Kill a Mockingbird, Animal Farm, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Flies, Tale of Two Cities, Heart of Darkness, Robinson Crusoe, Alice in Wonderland, Great Expectations, Odyssey, Frankenstein, Dracula, Crime and Punishment, Heart of Darkness, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, The Secret Garden, Treasure Island, Anne of Green Gables, Les Misérables, Peter Pan, Gulliver’s Travels, all things Jack London, 20000 Leagues, etc.— they never captured me as aptly as Anne McCaffery’s Dragonriders of Pern or Mercedes Lackley’s the Last Herald Mage. Though, if I were to pick classic stories I read more than once (litmus test for things I like) it would be things such as The Secret Garden, Call of the Wild, Wild Fang, The Hobbit, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,  and The Last Unicorn. At what age did you start writing? The moment I could pick up pencil and paper, I was writing. I had notepads full of stories I wrote as a kid. Alas, my dad found them one day when I was off to college, made fun of them, and I came home and burned every single one in mortification.
How did you get into writing fanfiction?
The moment TV shows did “stupid things” to their characters. I used to write things about Beauty and the Beast (the old CBS show) when they killed off the main character, Knight Rider, Robocop, Transformers— there are probably far more that I just don’t remember now. I was writing it long before there was a fanfiction dot net or a term to even call it. What's the best theme you've ever come across in a fic? Is it a theme represented in your own works? I am a shameless romantic for the beauty within and sometimes the quite literal love for a monster (not just some person who acts like a monster and changes into a better person.) The misunderstood monster is perhaps my most favourite theme, and it shows up in my stories often if not always. What fandoms are you involved in other than Harry Potter? I ship SessKag from Inuyasha, Lucard/Sophie from Dracula: The Series, and Loki/Hermione when I’m feeling crossover-y. If you could make one change to canon, what would it be? Do you have a favourite piece of fanon? Other than my favourite fanon that Severus lives/survives/finds a better life free of two masters and his guilt, I would say I would want Harry to wise the heck up and realise his father was a swine, his godfather was an almost successful murderer that used his own best mate to try and kill off another student, and his mother wasn’t all that hot either. I would want him to find value in himself without having to make stuff up about his “perfect” parents. Then again, I would want Vernon/Petunia to be arrested for child abuse and put in gaol, but— then the story would have been very different XD Do you listen to music when you write or do you prefer quiet?  Sometimes quiet, sometimes music. But usually, I am best mates with Spotify.
What are your favourite fanfictions of all time?
In the HP universe: I honestly don’t read many of them because I’m always writing my own stuff XD, but when I really feel like I need a good Ron bashing SSHG HEA, I read just about anything by IShouldBeWritingSomethingElse. However, that being said, I often return to “The Sun is Often Out” by Hannah-1888 for just the right amount of angst and HEA to make me happy.
In the Inuyasha universe: A Trick of Fate by PristinelyUngifted
In the Marvel universe:  Mutual Respect Sends His Regrets by moor
In the Star Trek universe:  Gratified By Your Company by starfleetdream
Are you a plotter or a pantser? How does that affect your writing process?
I go by the seat of my feathered rump, to be honest. Inspiration is a fickle, unpredictable beast, and I usually don’t know what is going to happen until it does.
What is your writing genre of choice?
Fantasy
Which of your stories are you most proud of? Why?
Chance of Happiness because it was my very first publication. It may not have been my best, but it was my first, and it very well could have been my last yet somehow wasn’t.
Looks Can Be Deceiving and One Step Forward, Two Decades Back are two epic tales that seemed to demand being written. The fact I finished them was something I think deserves a little pride.
Did it unfold as you imagined it or did you find the unexpected cropped up as you wrote? What did you learn from writing it?
Looks started off with me attempted to write Dramione just once. It failed. Draco demanded to be her brother of the heart, Viktor came in and said “nope she’s mine,” and no one was more surprised at the outcome of that story than me. The characters did what THEY wanted.
I learned that trying to plan a story from start to finish is useless when the characters decide what they want. The story demanded more, and I was just a conduit that typed it down. For me, at least, attempting to outline and plan is utterly useless
How personal is the story to you, and do you think that made it harder or easier to write?
I think every story I write is personal in some way. The inspiration comes from somewhere inside, and I often have no idea what it is until I go back and read it later. I think the story wrote itself in a lot of ways, which made it easier in a way, but there are a lot of things I can’t say were from personal experience because as a high fantasy of talking gryphons and such I can only imagine it. There is no basis in real life on how any of that would go down. There is a freedom in that but also many challenges in making it real enough to identify with despite how alien and fantastic the idea is.
What books or authors have influenced you? How do you think that shows in your writing?
Dragonriders of Pern introduced sentient dragons and the idea that despite a vast difference in species there could be teamwork and love between the two as they teamed up against a greater threat.
The herald-mage books by Mercedes Lackley were also important staples in my childhood because it impressed the values of responsibility despite having powers others did not, and that people were fallible despite greatness and potential.
Gandalara Cycle by Randall Garrett and Vicki Ann Heydron: I cannot tell you how often I read this story. I had dog ears on these novels because there was so much I loved about them. It was a search for humanity when displaced in a seemingly alien world, societal clashes, and the great sha’um (the giant rideable cats) that were the main characters’ partners for life.
The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C Wrede: A princess rebels against her arranged marriage by running away to be a dragon princess.
All of these books had creatures in it that chose to partner with a human and be with them for life, not as lovers that you find in the more modern supernatural romance blender out there, but the ultimate friend for life— the family you choose.
Do people in your everyday life know you write fanfiction?
Oh heck no. Hah. They have their secrets, and I have mine. Personally, I think mine are more healthy than theirs.
How true for you is the notion of "writing for yourself"?
Very.
I write for myself. Sometimes I’ll write a story for one of my betas or a sshg friend, but for the most part, I write for my own entertainment because nothing like what I write is out there. There is a lot of SSHG out there, but mine is almost always a creature feature story. I blame X-Files growing up. It tickles me that others enjoy my stories, but in the end I write to get things down and out of my head. They just so happen to entertain others as they do me.
How important is it for you to interact with your audience? How do you engage with them? Just at the point of publishing? Through social media?
I will often engage in A/N talk at the end of chapters, but I really don’t engage in the fandom. I loathe social media. That being said, I read every review, and while I don’t reply to everything because FF dot net is a horrible platform for messaging anymore (or ever was really)-- I appreciate every single one. Sometimes it helps to know people are enjoying the story for the story’s sake.
What is the best advice you've received about writing?
Get a beta, even if you are pretty good at writing. Get one because a second pair of eyes will catch things you don’t. Read your own stuff out loud. If you trip over it, your audience will too. If you stumble, so will they.
Get a beta who isn’t afraid to tell you that your shite stinks in places and you make no sense. You may want a cheerleader, but what you need is a beta. If you are super lucky, you can have both at once.
What do you do when you hit writer's block?
I play computer games and sew things. I’ve sewn a lot of things lately. Scrub caps and masks for work—
There has been a lot of writer’s block lately due to the times, and I will not write when I’m uninspired. I will not force inspiration. That’s not fair to me or those unfortunate enough to share in the reading. I want to be able to go back on a story I wrote and enjoy it and not curse at myself. XD
Has anything in real life trickled down into your writing?
Sometimes certain catch phrases and things from real life friends have trickled in as a sort of Easter egg (unbeknownst to them since I don’t tell them I write fanfic). Sometimes random news stories or whatnot find their way in. Lessons of the day. Random events. Things that are too odd not to stick in my brain somehow. I can’t say I always do it on purpose, though.
Do you have any stories in the works? Can you give us a teaser?
No, I have a goal this year to finish off the unfinished stories. This is made harder because Dragon and the Rose keeps adding more and more bunnies into the idea bin, and my brain wants to run with them, but I’m like NO DANGIT, I HAVE STUFF TO FINISH STILL!  It’s a hard thing trying to finish what you start when so much interesting stuff pops up and waves at you like “heeeeeyyyyy I’m cool too!”
Any words of encouragement to other writers?
Keep writing but remember you can always be better. You can always improve.  Writing isn’t a popularity contest. It isn’t about how many reviews you get or how many fans you may or may not have. Write because you want to write. Write what you like not what other people like. Write for you because in the end, you are the one who goes back to read it and say “I wrote this story, and I still love it” instead of forcing yourself to write something just because the topic is “popular” and gets a lot of visitors. Write something you’ll be proud to go back and read and enjoy. You’ll find when you write something genuinely, readers will come. And if only one person leaves you a paragraph review on how much your story meant to them out of someone else’s hundreds of  “great!” (with nothing else)-- think of what you value more.
If my story helped someone through a dark time.
Just one person—
Then it was a good effort.
Maybe that person didn’t have the bravery to leave a message. Maybe they are ashamed. Maybe they send you a PM instead of a review.
That is, to me, the ultimate reason why I realised that despite writing stories for myself that there are people out there that needed to hear my story at just the right time in their life. If my story can bring a little joy to someone else, then it doesn’t matter how many reviews I have. It doesn’t matter that I don’t have thousands of reviews like “that other author.” What matters is that I told my story; someone out there read it and it spoke to them.
I love hearing from people and what they liked about my stories, but I also am glad that there are some people out there who secretly like my stories but do not feel safe enough to review.
So, I would say to the aspiring author: write for yourself but share it. You never know whose day you will make with your story. They may never tell you. They may tell you years later (happened to me!). There is a good chance that someone out there needs your story as much as you need to write it. That being said, find yourself a beta to share your journey with you. You may find a few friend in the process.
Thanks so much for giving us your time.
You are quite welcome.

40 Q meme: 2, 4, 13, 14, 15, 25, 28, 29!!!! O.O*
aah thank you!!! <333
2 - already answered!
4: How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
how many stars in the universe? how many grains of sand on the beach? haha seriously though, i come up with new ideas every day, but i discard most of them. i do have one idea for a yoi fic that i’m very excited about, and i think i’ll write it once lessons in love is done. it’s a fantasy au with magic/royalty. aah i want to tell you the whole plot but i also don’t want to reveal anything before i start working on it hahaha… but well, the summary will be sth like viktor and yuuri are married, viktor is the king and yuuri is his mage husband, but a curse is put on yuuri so that he forgets everything and disappears, and viktor has to find him and make him remember viktor and their love before everything’s too late… with a side of their childhoods - but i already said too much!! i already spent too much time plotting it though (♡´艸`)
13: What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
tbh, i generally dislike writing advice that is all *do this* or *do that* because i find it more fun to learn through experience. i think the most important advice is to do your own thing and not be afraid to try new things. the best advice i’ve heard though is to read as much as possible, and to read different genres and writers. broaden your horizons! fanfiction doesn’t need to be like published fiction and you don’t have to write according to any rules or other genres, but if you for example want to write fantasy then reading fantasy by great authors is a good way of figuring out what you personally like and want to use in your own writing. reading also gives you a better grasp of grammar, language, and text flow. this is especially important if your native language isn’t english, but you want to write your fics in english. reading other people’s fics is also good of course, but if you know the rules it’s easier to break them.
therefore - do your own thing, only take the advice you feel is useful to you, but be aware of the fact that reading strengthens writing!
14: What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
…well. anything that tells you *don’t do X because it makes you a bad writer*. of course, there are things that will make your text easier and more interesting to read, but ALL writing rules can be used for good and bad. a text is made up of so many parts that it’s hard to say *do or don’t do X* without knowing what you’re aiming to write, and why you want to write it. i think the problem is that most writing advice is written by and for published authors or editors, and it can be helpful of course, but it can also kill motivation when it comes to fanfic writing. that’s why you should always read advice critically. is this advice useful for what i aim to write? is this general advice or a personal opinion? what’s more important to me, avoiding things that can be seen as cliché or even *bad* writing by some people, or having fun when i write without worrying?
always be open to improvement, but most fanfic authors i’ve come across are already so critical of themselves and their writing (myself included). trying to strive for writing that would be approved at a publishing house isn’t necessarily helpful.
15: If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
i would pick lessons in love because how cute??? or i see the universe in your eyes because i love space and think of all the amazing panorama shots of space you could get. also viktor and yuuri flirting in zero gravity. i have a need now!
25: What do you look for in a beta?
i honestly don’t use betas haha. i just send my writing to nora and hope for praise and then post lol. i’m too critical so i made a deal with myself that i write fics for fun and not to nitpick details, because i lose motivation waaaay too easily. but if i had one, i would look for honesty and constructive criticism, suggestions on how to change things and why and someone to exchange ideas with, as well as someone good at pep talks haha.
28: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
i honestly hate these types of questions, i can never choose!! i like so many and for different reasons, and i don’t know how to pick one over the other. so i’ll say what i like about all my favs in general -
i like that they make me laugh and squeeze my chest and shout at the screen and wish there was more to read.
i like that they are nice and friendly and respectful.
i like that there’s something personal belonging just to them in their writing, that reading their fics is like getting to know them.
and, of course, i like that they’re just as crazy about my fav characters as i am!
29: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
gah you pick the hardest questions don’t you? i mean, there are fics i want more of but they’re not finished yet so i don’t know if i’ll need more once they’re don haha! it’s more often that i want to rewrite endings lol i’m very picky with endings… i’m sure i’ll upset people if i mention which ones heh. or i get inspired to write a similar trope but slightly different. i often read fics and find them great and then i immediately think of ten different ways you could enjoy this plot hahaha because i can’t get enough but also i don’t want to mess with what the writer is planning. honestly, if i’ve read a fic you can be certain i felt inspired to write something related to the same trope/plot 。(*^▽^*)ゞ
i hope this sort of answered things anyway… thanks for asking so many questions!!!
