The 10 greatest Video game trailers of all time (according to me)
This list is a bit subjective, and to be fair i know these 10 trailers aren't actually the greatest (well some of them are) I just happen to really like them. A great trailer doesn't always equate a great game, and truth be told some of these games I still haven't played (Sorry Epic Mickey)I would also like to take this moment and say these are in no particular order, until we get down to like the last two. #1 is absolutely #1 but enough of all that, you wanna see some fantastic game trailers. And i wanna post them.
10-Epic Mickey
youtube
Cool narrator voice? Check
Cool imagery? Check
A mischievous mouse? Check
I'm not too sure what about this trailer i like so much, like many of these trailers I remember seeing this at E3 and thinking it looked really cool. I also remember thinking it wasn't quite worth buying a wii for.
9- Metal Gear Solid 5 Phantom Pain
youtube
Sometimes a song choice can really make a trailer, this was one of those trailers where the song made its way onto my spotify playlist. I have a very specific memory, every morning i would leave study hall, go to the media center, and watch this trailer. I would play Metal Gear Solid games as a kid, with 3 being my favorite. I thought the game looked so cool, and of course that music
the game is okay
8-Animal Crossing New Leaf
youtube
HOLY SHIT YOU CAN SWIM NOW?????
This is probably my favorite trailer for any Animal Crossing game, this is also my favorite Animal Crossing game. I bought my 3ds the day this game came out, my pure excitement for this game started the day i saw this trailer, for good reason as this trailer showed a lot of new features (especially since my only other AC experience was AC population growing
7- Super Smash Bros Ultimate
youtube
"Are they bringing everyone back???"-Me when i saw Cloud
"Oh shit they are"- Me 5 seconds later when Snake comes crashing down
This trailer is honestly just iconic, there will never be another Smash game that can boast "EVERYONE IS HERE" the trailer it self is nothing too special, but i can't leave it off of a list of the greatest trailers of all time. I mean, they even brought back Pichu. Beside the character specific trailers, there won't be another Smash trailer that created as much buzz or excitement as this game
6-WindWaker
youtube
"To save...me"
this trailer does a decent job of portraying this game as an epic adventure and not some kid game to throw to your little brother. I love Windwaker (It is my favorite Zelda game after all) This trailer just feels so unique to me. I may be alone with this one, i dunno i quite like it.
5-Assasins Creed Revelations
youtube
I'm not sure what i liked more, this trailer or the literal trailer Tobuscus did back in the day. Similar to Phantom Pain the song really makes the trailer for me, and was a song i would listen to quite a bit after seeing this trailer. Beside the song it feels like this 3 minute long trailer took me on an adventure, this trailer made this game feel like a big deal, it had a sense of finality to it and peaked my interest far more than any other Assassins Creed trailer
"I AM THE FIRST X-MAN. THAT JOKE IS AHEAD OF OUR TIME BUT YOU'RE STILL GONNA DIE, WHO THE HELL IS THAT GUY? THE SECOND X-MAN"
back in the 2010's when Tobuscus and Assassins Creed was all the craze
4- Portal 2
youtube
"I think we can put our differences behind us. For science. You monster."
This trailer is fantastic, just waiting to see that Portal 3 trailer
3-Splatoon
youtube
A brand new IP is always super exciting, it's even more exciting when the new IP looks like a fuck ton of fun. Splatoon trailer is simple and that's okay. They made a new game, put a trailer forth showing what the game was all about, and watched it rightfully so become a success.
2-Read Dead Redemption 2
youtube
Fun fact, RDR 2 is the first game I went and picked it up at the midnight release because I literally couldn't wait to play it. All the trailers for this game were fantastic and got me excited, but i have always loved this trailer. The music is a solid 10 here, RDR 2 is a very story focused game, but the trailers don't reveal too much, just enough to get you excited
"Sure we can have fire, and we can have the knowledge of fire. But with that knowledge of everything"
1-The Legend of Zelda. Breath of the Wild
youtube
This is a strong contender for the greatest video game trailer of all time. The world of BOTW is large and alive and full of things to do and fight. This trailer shows that beautifully, I wanted to go there. I wanted to so badly explore this land of Hyrule, to discover all the secrets she was hiding. BOTW is the first Zelda game to include voice acting, and I guess people don't especially love the voice actor for Zelda, but honestly i think she did a great job "Everything I've done up until now...It was all for nothing" Seeing Zelda break down crying in Links arm made me so excited for this game, Zelda was shown as an actual character here, I was excited to explore this world but i also so badly wanted to know what the story of this game was going to be. Why was Zelda breaking down in the rain? What are those things destroying that town? The imagery, music, lines of dialogue everything about this trailer just comes together and works
That's my list, I would love to hear what some of your favorite trailers are. Like my opinions? Hey, why not follow?

I think I've heard you say you enjoy turn-based games before, and you've posted bioshock infinite fan art, but I've never seen you talk about games before. What are your favourite games? (Or really just tell us anything about you and gaming!)
TL;DR: Yes I play games!
I haven’t been so active ever since I graduated school and started working, because… 9 to 5 job… raising a kid as a mother… but games and video games have always been a big part of my life!
It was the 90s so my mom was against violence in video games so I watched my elementary school guy friends play things like Street Fighter 2, Sonic, Tomb Raider, KOTOR.. but never picked it up.
I eased into computer games through puzzle games like Myst, and Humongous Entertainment (Pajama Sam, Spyfox, Backyard Baseball), and edutainment games like Oregon Trail 3 and Where in Time is Carmen San Diego. I always played with my sister! My neighbor and I also played this Indiana jones top-down adventure game a lot. I also loved things like petz, sim farm, sim tower, sim city, and roller coaster tycoon, and the sims and sims2, oh and this game called “creatures”?
My family are big card players and board game players, and I grew up playing a version of speed solitaire that only exists in my family. In 4th grade I somehow played online poker via America Online…? And when someone asked my age I lied and said I was in 5th grade lol. My sister and I still love playing board games, especially Serenissima and Clueless (a version of Clue we came up with where you play without a notepad). a few friends in high school played Warhammer so I watched that a bit.
In middle school I got into TCG’s, mainly Pokémon and Magic the Gathering.. I had a solid Armadillo Deck in high school.. I used to play with this education tool called Interactive Physics in the computer lab a lot. Also loved this website called Orisinal, which come to think of it has informed my aesthetic a lot. I got a gameboy color and played Pokémon Blue, Kirby’s Tilt n Tumble, Conker’s Pocket Tales.. I got into DDR for a hot minute, Marvel vs Capcom, King of Fighters, Guilty Gear..
My first console was a translucent orange N64, I loved games like Harvest Moon and Hey You Pikachu, Mario Party 2 (the best), beetle adventure racing, tons of games rented from blockbuster, and I would watch my guy friends play StarFox and Smash Brothers. Before it came out, I ran emulators of Pokémon Gold on my computer and tried playing through it in Japanese haha. I super got into the Japanese emulator for the Pokémon trading card game gameboy game!
When I got in high school I finally got a PlayStation, and I fell hard for Final Fantasy. My first was 9, and I went back from there. It’s hard to go back from 9 to 8 and then to 7. In the end I lost interest in 7 and never finished it. Also followed the squaresoft road and really loved Legend of Mana! I watched G4 and cosplayed as game characters at anime cons and stuff. Got my PS2 to play Final Fantasy X, loved the core Kingdom Hearts games, Katamari Damacy.. odd titles like Magic Pengel.. doubled down with X-2, HM:BTN.. not a lot of ‘violent’ games or shooters. (My family all played our Wii Sports to pieces, etc..) I watched my friends play a ton of GTA, and I loved just listening to the radio!
I spent a ton of time playing Ragnarok! I got to the Monk class, had some pretty rare headgear, which was so fun. In college I got my PS3 and played a mess of stuff, some tekken and Soul Calibur, but really just got busy with uni and then work.. I lived in Tokyo though so I would go to TGS and soak it all in. I saw Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb taping a segment there one year! But my interest was mostly on the peripheral, I checked out of it as a hobby for a good amount of years until I got an iPhone and then started watching let’s plays on YouTube!
I got back into following games as a medium through being interested in the development of Bioshock Infinite. During college, when I went back home for the summer, I spent a night hanging out in a park with my high school friends listening to them talk about how cool this game called bioshock is. Sounded too scary for me, but I plot searched the hell out of it online much like I do when I’m interested in scary movies but don’t want to watch them…?
So when I heard a new one was coming out I casually followed it through its development, then watched lets plays of it when it came out in real time, and just got super into it because I had been studying the history of math and science in college, and so I was studying about the history of quantum theory and stuff right at the time. then because of all that I got into watching gaming related stuff on YouTube, watched a lot of rev3 et all, gamergate happened, yeah..
But I still play games on muh lonesome, and still watch let’s plays of games I don’t have the skill or time to play! I think I’ve watched let’s plays of most of the major games for 2013-2016 in the process! I really liked Firewatch! Watched through Lots of older ones too. I really got into watching videos of the Arkham series, and from that I started watching deep dives on US comics by people on YouTube, etc… also found MBMBaM via games!
So I don’t think my story is unique but I’m sort of more of a spectator of what you may call your classic video games, and the ones I do play are either strategic, or laid back.. usually turn-based. But looking back I certainly have experienced more than someone who doesn’t!
Nowadays I love Civilization 4 with a passion, retroactively played through the Bioshock Series while I was on maternity leave (my first time playing a shooter!) which was an important touchstone for me as a person for many reasons.. separate from my opinion of the game itself, but either than that though, I haven’t picked up a controller since Splatoon. ..well that’s a lie, my toddler *loves* wii-u party. But, still haven’t gotten around to buying a PS4. Or a switch. But ive played through Riven and Exile on my iPhone, recently played Oxenfree, um let’s see, I backed We Happy Few, and it freaks me out to play but I got pretty good at playing one of the earlier versions! I listen to a lot of video game podcasts, too, though I think it’s more from a companionship stance than anything.. I still live in japan and most of my social circle doesn’t speak English, and all these people remind me of my high school friends. Good times. That kinda thing.
Yeah, that’s me and games!

Xenoblade Chronicles X
(As per usual, there may be some story spoilers. I’ll keep them to a minimum, but consider this your official spoiler alert)
Time has not been very kind to the Wii U, admittedly. It was a console that held great promise when it was released, and it did fairly well early in its run; but in the five years its been out, it’s been largely surpassed by its competitors. In many ways, it is not unlike the Sega Dreamcast (a console for which I have nothing but undying love, but I’ll ramble about it some other time).
Which is a damn shame, because many of the games released on the Wii U are spectacular. Smash Bros. is a given, and Splatoon was a breakout hit that took shooters in an exciting new direction.
One game that’s very near and dear to me, as a fan of sandbox games, science fiction, and giant robots, is Xenoblade Chronicles X, the spiritual successor to one of the best JRPGs of the original Wii.
It is the year 2054, and Earth has gone to shit (moreso than usual): our little ball of mud in the interstellar boondocks has the misfortune of being caught in the crossfire between two alien armies, forcing humanity to flee into the stars before the planet is reduced to cosmic dust. Sadly, one of the alien armies decides to chase after the ark ships, causing one of them, the White Whale, to crashland on a nearby planet called Mira.
It is two months since when you, our hero, are found by a young woman named Elma. With her help, she guides you back to the colony humanity has set up on Mira: New Los Angeles.
Not long after, your are pressed into service for BLADE (Builders of a Legacy After the Destruction of Earth), NLA’s military organization. In addition to building NLA and protecting the colony and its people, BLADE’s chief directive is to seek out a chunk of the White Whale that broke off during its crash landing onto Mira; the Lifehold Core, which contains many humans still trapped in stasis during the journey through space. You and your new friends need to find it, and fast: you’re not the only visitors to Mira, and not every xeno you cross paths with is a big fan of humanity...
Mira is one of the biggest, widest, and most open worlds in any sandbox game of this generation, consisting of a wide variety of locales and biomes, from the wide planes and alien mountains of Primordia...
...to the deserts and ruins of Obllivia...
...to the bio-luminescent jungles of Noctilum.
I’m particularly taken with the region of Sylvalum, with its snowy-looking spore-covered lowlands and crystal spires.
Everything that you see in Mira, from the oceans to the tallest mountains and even floating landmasses, can be reached. You’re fairly limited to where you can go at first, though: you can sprint for as long as you want, jump high, and survive falls of any height without any ill effect, but aside from some clever hopping up some mountains, you won’t be able to reach every single point on the map. Not yet, anyway: as you progress through the game, you’ll get the best means to travel through Mira: a Skell.
Skells are giant robots that are used by elite BLADEs for reconnaissance and combat. You won’t be able to get one right from the start, however: you’ll have to get about halfway through the game before you earn yours. Once you do, however, you’ll be able to move faster and leap higher than you ever could on foot. Later on, when you unlock flight packs for Skells, the entire world opens up to you: you’ll be able to go anywhere you want, with the only limitation being your Skell’s fuel.
Mira is not the most friendly of planets, however: even without the dangers of alien armies trying to drive humanity to extinction, the planet is teeming with all manner of indigenous species, most of which are bigger than you and will eat you for breakfast if you’re not careful. You will need to defend yourself against these dangers.
The combat engine of XBX is an evolution of the one introduces in the original Xenoblade Chronicles and plays out much like a refined version of combat engines in MMORPGs such as Final Fantasy XIV. You launch attacks on enemies automatically when you are within your weapons’ range, but you also have access to various fighting Arts that have different effects, from launching special attacks to drawing aggro, debuffing enemies, healing and buffing allies, and Auras that grant temporary passive benefits.
There are a total of ten classes to choose from for your character, each specializing in different aspects of combat, including the tanky Striker, the nimble hard-hitting Commando, and the supportive Enforcer, plus offshoots of those classes. Any class that you completely master will grant you the ability to use the signature weapons and corresponding Arts of that class with any other class of your choosing, so you have the freedom to mix and match weapons, Arts, and classes to make your ideal fighting build.
Skells are also capable of fighting, and boy-howdy do they pack a punch. Once you unlock your Skell, you can stomp on many enemies you’ve encountered up to that point (sometimes literally!). Skells are pricey, but can be customized to carry a veritable arsenal of weapons. When it comes to common enemies, Skells can make combat easy to the point of triviality, but they are a must-have against some of the toughest beasts and bosses the game has to offer.
The game’s main story is fairly average, but enjoyable. Unfortunately, it also brings one of the biggest downsides to this game: story missions have rather strict unlock requirements which make for some of the most obnoxious examples of gameplay padding. It’s tolerable for the most part, though, since the game is very fun anyway.
In addition to the main story, there are also Affinity Missions that build upon the world and the characters that inhabit it, and Heart-to-Heart scenes that reveal more about your brothers and sisters in arms.
There is also a multiplayer component to the game, but it is largely asynchronus: as BLADEs, each player mainly goes through the singleplayer game, broadcasting their achievements and messages via Miiverse. Players have the option of hiring out other player’s characters in their game for a couple of hours. There are also co-op missions, but I’ve never had a chance to try these.
I actually had this game at launch, but lost my copy during the move to my new house. I managed to snag a new copy for very cheap from Gamestop when it went on clearance, though. If you have a Wii U and love open world RPGs, I highly recommend getting this game.

Super Bomberman R sold me on the Nintendo Switch
I follow a blog that taught me a general rule: Don't buy a game console unless it has 5 games you're sure to buy and enjoy. Try them out in any way you can, but don't buy the console until you're sure of those five games you want to play on it.
I didn't have 5 games. But while following that blog there was a game that just fell onto that list today: Super Bomberman R
So my initial thought to the Bomberman Switch game was that I'd get bored of it fast. I couldn't remember liking Bomberman, and so it was one less Switch game I was willing to buy, which also made me lean more on not buying a Switch until much later.
Then I watched the Bomberman videos you linked. And it all came flooding back to me. Bomberman 64 was the second game I was ever introduced to on the N64. I didn't even own one back then, but I remembered the commercials and as they played with Saturday morning cartoons they were designed to be just as catchy and adventurous looking. Same with that Bomberman Hero game that later released.
Here's that first commercial, done to the style of the old Spider-man theme song. I didn't even know the Spider-man song back then, so Bomberman was stuck in my head for years.
When I finally did get an N64 some years later, one of the games that constantly got rented out from Blockbuster (remember those guys!) and eventually bought was Bomberman 64 2: The Second Attack. My little brother and I played that game to death. Don't get me wrong, we sucked at the game. It also was very Zelda like with lots of puzzles, secrets, RPGish ways to grind out strength, and combat at nearly every step. The bosses were hard. At least for our young middle school selves. I can't even remember if my brother and I ever beat the game.
Here's a review that touches on everything that made the game special to us.
Pros: The game had co-op. Sadly, it only had that "second player plays as an invulernable pet," but throughout the game you could make your partner stronger and stronger. The game was also very Megaman-like, in that there were eight bosses and beating each boss gave you a new weapon. Which also added a few Metroid elements, as you could go back to earlier levels and find things using the different abilities those bombs had. And the bosses you had to beat were crazy. They'd dash, they'd drop explosions in their wake, they'd kick your bombs back at you, surviving was just half the battle! We played the game to death, and eventually would be able to beat one boss and unlock more of the game to us. Figuring out how to get your pet to evolve was great; you could even get them to evolve to a dragon. It got to the point where I wanted to play 2P as much as I wanted to play Bomberman.
I don't think the game required a memory card, but because we would intermittedly rent it from Blockbuster, a year or two later we eventually bought one so we'd stop losing our progress! And progress was important because of the other major part of the game, the multiplayer! The multiplayer was much like it was in other Bomberman games, where you had the different grid reskins and different Bomberman colors you could use. But as you beat the story mode, you unlocked more types of levels, including levels that had multiple floors. You would unlock other game modes. You would even unlock the ability to use some of those cool bosses as your character, which was super cool even if mechanically you were just playing a different colored Bomberman. This game along with Smash Bros. were the primary reasons my brother and I eventually got a third and fourth controller for our N64, and would often invite our friends over to play with us. The game was so found that we eventually found another Bomberman game that was on the Playstation (the Playstation was a gift, the N64 we saved our allowances for almost a year to buy), and then that game was one of the reasons for us to get a multitap and four controllers for our Playstation!
The game was so fun that we actually looked for other Bomberman games once the N64 went out the back and was shot. The GCN had none (although it did have the Smash Bros) so we started looking at the portable games. There were a few here or there my brother tried out when we could rent them from Blockbuster, but they didn't have any easy multiplayer, so they never lasted that long for me. The DS and Wii changed this. The DS came out with a Bomerman game that allowed single-pack multiplayer, which was an instant buy. The Wii had a Bomberman game on the VC (I think it was the Turbographix version?) that allowed more than 4 players, as long as you also had GCN controllers to plug in. We scooped that up as well.
So why did I forget how much I used to enjoy Bomberman? Because, I sucked at it. One of the reasons Bomberman was extra fun was because, like Smash Bros, my brother and I could go into the multiplayer mode, play against CPUs, and play team battles. So for Bomberman, in both Story and Multiplayer we could do co-op. Every Bomberman game I played after the Second Attack would neither have a co-op story mode, nor much in the way of team battle options. Since I sucked, I didn't want to play FFA all that often, even though I could occasionally win or had the ability to practice more. For me, fun games, especially party games, are best as team games. You feel less bad when you lose with others, and you feel great when you manage to cooperate and win together. That's one of the reasons I love Overwatch.
The video that brought back all of the memories
So, let's recap on Bomberman R. It has a co-op story mode, which will do for now. It has 8-player multiplayer, super awesome. In my wildest dreams it would have single-pack play, but then again not everyone is going to have a Switch right away. Being able to play with a single Joycon, and being the right amount of complexity leads me to think I could even play this game with my girlfriend, and there's a good chance she might love it!
But even with just FFA this game looks fun
So now I want a Switch at launch. All the pre-orders have been sold out for weeks. We'll see if I can get one.
Games on my Switch to-buy list through Summer:
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Bomberman R
Hasbeen Heroes
Splatoon 2 (w/ public testfire coming in March)
(maybe) Arms
(maybe) The Binding of Issac: Afterlife
(maybe) Puyo Puyo Tetris
Three maybes are good enough for right now. I'm leaning away from Mario Kart 8, but if enough friends get it I can see it ending up in my library. I know in the far future I'll be buying the No More Heroes game, spinoff or not, and Xenoblade 2 for sure. So I'm set.
There goes my wallet.

Top 10 Nintendo Switch 2017 Games for Girls
Like a few of our lucky readers, I was fortunate enough to get a day-one Preorder for the Nintendo Switch. Sadly had to get the plain grey one, but beggars can’t be choosers right? 🙂 What games are you most looking forward to? For me, the only launch title right now that has caught my eye is Zelda, but that’s sure to change as we get closer to release. There are a ton of interesting looking games coming out by the end of the year for the new console.
Here are the Top 10 Nintendo Switch Games Due out in 2017 that I am most looking forward to.
NEW UPDATE: Check Out our List of Upcoming 2018 Nintendo Switch Games for Girls here.
Top 10 Nintendo Switch Games
Mario Odyssey
Mario Odyssey – The new Mario Game looks amazing. It reminds me a lot of Mario 64 with a huge open world full of lots of fun and crazy looking levels. Mario has some new abilities too such as being able to throw and jump on his cap to cross large areas. Mario will fly on an airship to travel to “strange new worlds” (for Mario and his friends), but the world is actually made up of different places that we know in real life such as New York City, and Latin and South America. Mario Odyssey’s release date is December 29th, 2017.
Pokemon Stars
Pokemon Stars – Although it is still a rumor at this time, several retailer leaks such as one that has since been taken down on Gamestop seem to refer to the existence of a new Pokemon Game for Nintendo Switch. The rumor is that it is a new version of Pokemon Sun and Moon with over 20 new pokemon added in. This rumor has not been confirmed by Nintendo and so no release date has been given.
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley – I actually spent the majority of this past weekend playing the PC version of Stardew Valley. True, you can already play this game right now today on PC and other consoles… But imagine being able to play it ON THE GO, away from home. This will be the title’s first entry into mobile or handheld gaming. Stardew Valley is an amazing “tribute” to classic Nintendo games such as Harvest Moon and Rune Factory – so it makes sense that it would find a home on the Nintendo Switch as well. It is such a relaxing game and the type of game that you can pick up and play as little as an hour, or easily spend 20+ hours straight with. The Nintendo Switch ability to switch from handheld to console form lets you play Stardew Valley whenever, wherever, and however you want. Although it is definitely for sure coming to the Nintendo Switch, there is no official word on a release date.
youtube
Seasons of Heaven – Seasons of Heaven is a confirmed Exclusive title for the new Nintendo Switch. Graphically it looks pretty amazing for a Nintendo console and much more like something that we would see on a PS3 or PS4. The game is based on a novel by the same name and features a boy with his dog as they travel a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. The fact that it’s exclusive to the Switch gives Nintendo some more advantage. In my opinion a console is only as good as its exclusives! I’m looking forward to learning more about Seasons of Heaven in the months to come. No Release date has been set yet for this title.
Dragonquest XI
Dragonquest XI – There will now be three versions of the newest Dragon Quest game all set to release in 2017. These include a fully 3D version for the PS4, a 2D/3D style for the 3DS and a 3D style version for the new Nintendo Switch. Clearly still, from trailers and screenshots, the PS4 version is going to still have the upperhand when it comes to graphics and resolution. However, the ability now to have a version where you can play on the go (as with the 3DS) OR play on the big screen (as with the PS4) all in one version now (on the Nintendo Switch), gives one some pause into deciding which version of the game to pick up. Regardless of which version you get, this already looks set to be an amazing game. Dragonquest has long been the best selling RPG franchise of all time (yes, even more so than Final Fantasy) and many fans around the world are anxiously awaiting the newest installment into the Dragonquest saga.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Another exciting Nintendo Switch exclusive. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a direct sequel finally to cult classic Xenoblade Chronicles from back on the Wii. The Wii U also saw Xenoblade Chronicles X – However, that was more of a side game, and not directly related to the first. Xenoblade Chronicles remains one of the greatest games on the Wii and until the recent release on the Nintendo E-Store, it was a highly sought after collector’s item. Not only that, but it is a fantastic RPG. I’m so thrilled to see it getting a sequel that I’m almost just as excited for this title as for the new Zelda or SMT.
Fire Emblem Warriors – There is extremely little details known about this title yet. There’s going to a live event on January 18th at 5pm EST dedicated fully to the Fire Emblem series. Speculation includes that the live event will reveal more details not only about Fire Emblem Warriors but also about the upcoming mobile game that was originally announced for 2016 but got delayed until “Sometime in 2017”.
Shin Megami Tensei
Shin Megami Tensei – I am the biggest Atlus fangirl ever. Tokyo Mirage Sessions is my favorite Wii U game – and I’ve been hooked on Persona and SMT games ever since Playstation One days. I suspect that this will be a much darker game than say Tokyo Mirage Sessions or Persona, and go back to gameplay similar to that in Devil Summoner and Devil Survivor. I’m really excited to hear that a new SMT game is in the works. It is such an underloved and underrated series. I was most surprised by this announcement at the Live event last week. There’s barely any details yet, just that it will coincide with the series’ 25th anniversary.
youtube
Project Octopath Traveler – a brand new exclusive from Square-Enix. The trailer seems to hint at an open world with multiple endings and a branching plot that is determined by choices the player makes. These types of games are always my favorite, so I am super interested in learning more about Project Octopath Traveler. It is being developed by the same team who worked on Bravely Default. The artwork is retro which is an interesting approach because as we’ve seen with other titles such as Seasons of Heaven, the console is definitely quite capable of more “Next-Gen” style graphics as well. This leads me to believe that this title will try to pander to us older fans from the 16bit era. Graphics and gameplay seem to remind me in some parts of some older Square games such as Final Fantasy Tactics, Saga Frontier, Legend of Mana, Live A Live, and Ogre Battle. Very excited to see where this one goes.
zelda breath of the wild
Zelda Breath of the Wild is by far the most anticipated and exciting launch title for the Nintendo Switch. There are several different collector editions for quite a large price! The collector editions include things like a carrying case, replica sword, soundtrack, cloth map, and coin. Amazon and Gamestop both sold out of these sets already. Best-buy began preorders for them today. But no matter if you get the Special Edition, or Master Edition, Or the base game is available for $59.99 you will be getting one amazing game. Keep in mind, if ordering the digital version, it will take up over HALF of the storage on the Nintendo Switch. Yikes! It is the first time for Zelda to take a more “western” approach to gaming, emulating features commonly found in Elder Scrolls games such as an open world and sandbox style gameplay. It also will have more than 100 Shrines of Trial to explore. It’s going to be a huge game. And from the launch trailer video, I feel that the story is also going to be very emotional and exciting. More so than any other game on the list, this is the one that should not be missed.
I also have to give a nod to a few other 2017 Switch games that didn’t quite make the list including the new Bomberman Game, Skyrim’s first foray into handheld gaming, Minecraft Switch Edition (for much of the same reasons as why Stardew Valley made the list), Mario Kart, Sonic, and Splatoon 2. With strong support from third party developers, and a few iconic Nintendo franchises making appearances, the gaming library for Nintendo Switch is already looking extremely promising.
Also the fact that the console is not region locked gives the fan translation community a chance to shine and bring us all the great games that Nintendo of America will either censor, or simply take a pass and not localize for North America. This could in theory mean that we could see some visual novels or otome games or more JRPGs on this Nintendo console provided that the English speaking Fan Translation community get behind certain projects.
The one franchise I expected to see, and didn’t see, was Smash Brothers. Also would love to see a new Donkey Kong Country game.
Although it is still early days, the future looks bright for Nintendo’s newest console.

So what are my favorite games Part 1
So just to make things clear i haven been writing 1.because this is actually my second attempt at writing this i accidentally closed the tab the first time, uh and i only lost a few hours of work. and 2.because I’ve been working at my job a lot more frequently as of late. anyway, i could probably write an entire full length essay on all of these games but I’ll try to shorten things up, oh yeah uh some games on the list might not be that good, as I may include a game from my childhood that i have fond memories of, but maybe wasn’t as good as i remembered it, anyway its a top 10 so lets begin.
First of all id love to start with some outside looking in, all these games are incredible to me and i would love to put them in the top 10 but i couldn’t, if you want to hear my opinions on them (wow thanks, you actually care) you can ask me on twitter and ill do my best!
15.Sonic Generations 14.Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege 13.Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum (Waterpark&Zoo DLC is amazing) 12.Splatoon 2 (specifically the Octo Expansion, that was really good) 11.Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition (Def. edition because its portable with good FPS and the extra 3DS content)
OK then Ill get started now :3 Thanks a TON (and I mean it I appreciate amy support i get or constructive criticism) for reading it!
Number 10: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Developer and Release year: Nintendo, 2006/2016 remaster What it can be played on: Gamecube/Wii/Wii U The Legend of Zelda is my favorite game series of all time, thats obvious if you know anything about me, and twilight princess is one I’ve played more recently, and from the start you notice Twilight Princess is definitely going for that early 2000′s edgy tone (is that a coincidence or an actual trend, i dunno i was really young in 06 so...) which works fine, and its a really long game, I mean I spent a week or two beating it, that being said i had work and other things going on at the time, but any way it has been said by many more before me, that it is basically an edgy, long,Ocarina of Time remake with motion controls....and they aren’t wrong, though i have called it edgy but i think its more...dark i guess? any way i actually like this better than Ocarina of Time, before you assault me i loved Ocarina of Time, i just tried to put as few Zelda games on the list as i could, and i just enjoyed the Twilight Princess story, characters, and length a bit more, but back to the remake opinion, i sort of agree yeah, but i thought the mystery around Midna and Zant and the Twilight realm, and the mirror, were all something that sets it apart, so in the end i enjoyed it a lot. Favorite Part(s)? Arbiters Grounds. AW MAN, I love the Arbiters grounds, the sneaking, the spinner, the boss, the setting, all of it is on point, even the wolf part is unique with the poe chasing, and also the Final Ganon boss I liked all of it, though his appearance is a bit late i thought it was a fun, long, and intense fight
Number 9: Lego Universe Developer and Release Year: NetDevil and Lego, 2010-2012 What it COULD ( :( ) be played on: PC IM GONNA GO AHEAD AND SAY IT THIS IS A PICK COMPLETELY ON NOSTALGIA. Yes, this is one of my favorite games of my childhood and since i cant go back and re-evaluate the game because it’s closed unfortunately (except for some server projects that are happening) I’m talking about it completely based on my memories. One reason I love it is, the game’s story and lore at the time captivated me so much that i decided to write stories about stuff my character(s) did, which basically kick-started my interest in writing, as bad as those stories were, I loved the game, I had it’s official LEGO set (Still do it’s a nice little orange rocket ship that could be used in-game) and convinced my cousins to play it too, and we all enjoyed it, now of course i was an MLGPROBOI at the game so I had rare pets and the best weapons and a RED PARROT GUYS (I believe it was super rare and a big deal) so I loved being really cool n’ stuff, people would ask me to help them take out Butterscorch (that was the hardest boss in the game, a purple dragon, BUT SINCE I WAS AN MLGPROBOI I COULD DO IT MYSELF BUT I WAS NICE SO I HELPED) and even sell them secrets on how to do stuff, yeah i was a cool guy, cant relate now, I’ll never be as cool as my alter-alias Square Von Pancake :( Favorite Part(s): Me and my brother played i t together all the time and we loved the combat at crux prime the most, Crux Prime was the place with the hardest enemies and bosses and it was really fun to be challenged for a while. plus though it was out for only a year we still have countless memories of it, and they added Ninjago in it which I was SUPER into at the time and enjoyed having my character do Ninjago stuff...
Number 8: Mount and Blade: Warband Developer and Release Year: Taleworlds, 2010 What it can be played on: PC, PS4, XB1 Mount and Blade Warband and its expansion Mount and Blade Napoleonic Wars, is one of my favorite multiplayer, and story games, the story mode is fun because you can do what you want, YOU choose the faction you fight with or not to at all, your class, your stats, and you can make some uh *beautiful* characters, the main story, i believe the objective is to become the emperor of Calradia, and rule the dang place and be rich and cool and have people like you, but I dont usually do that i just fight for factions, make money in the arena and at tournaments, and hire mercenaries and win against armies of 200 with like 30 people, its fun, now second talking point for me is the multiplayer, this is where Napoleonic Wars comes in, it is a fun shooter with muskets , or swords....or screw it you can play the bagpipes, that last one is totally not something me and my friends would do late at night. The Maps are super well designed as well and each look nice, and are usually not unbalanced. The third thing is the modding community, if you have this game, and don’t have the Anglo-Zulu war mod, that is just wrong, I mean it is so fun to get your friends and survive against large waves of zulu, or have some friends with the Zulu, it is just a unique experience for me, and other mods are cool to like the Civil War mod. Favorite part(s): The Story mode is awesome in the way that it was a time in m life where i was without internet for a good month or two, but i had my laptop and the story mode kept me entertained for basically the whole time, also there are so many fun memories of the AZW mod and late night spent surviving waves.
Number 7: Lego Battles Developer and Release Year: Warner Bros., Hellbent and Lego, 2009 What it can be played on: DS Lego Battles is also a nostalgia pick, and also happens to be a Lego game, but the difference is it still holds up to me today, and i can still play it today...any way I love the gameplay, it’s a basic RTS but with fun themes like Wizards and Knights and Pirates and Aliens vs Humans, and each has a different play style, but not too different that it didn’t confuse me as a kid, I always liked the pirates and the aliens, I dont know why, but uh a drawback is that it can be too easy, at the time I wasnt fast or good enough to beat the AI with my first base, but i quickly learned if i just escaped after the destruction of the first one and just built a stronger second one, i would have more time because the AI couldnt find me and i would win pretty much every time, but despite that I enjoyed all the campaigns and loved the cutscenes and the extra characters like Santa and the Skeleton Guy (tm) and the Conquistador and the Alien Queen etc. and the way to unlock them was to find red bricks in the campaign levels, and/or collect studs which i thought was a fun challenge at the time, and today i sometimes like to go back to it for some casual RTS action Favorite Part: The Gameplay, it’s simple, fun, and doesn’t take too long, so if i just want to pick up a short game of the RTS genre I usually spring for this
Number 6: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Classic Developer and Release Year: Pandemic Studios, LucasArts , 2005 What it can be played on: PC/PS2/XBOX The fact that this comes in at number 6 on my list really doesn’t tell how much I love and appreciate this game, this is probably THE game I played the most in my childhood, and even still I play it online with the new servers (I disagree with you sometimes Disney, but thanks for those) This game is so replayable and I haven’t even played through the campaign yet, yeah, what I have done though is beaten all the Galactic Conquest stories, probably more than once. So for those of you that don’t know Galactic Conquest is a mode where each team starts with one ship and one type of troop and you fly around a map of the galaxy and take over enemy planets and defend yours and buy troops with the money you earn from the battles, and if the two ships run in to each others then they do a space battle, and Im gonna say it now i grew up playing the PS2 version with my cousins, but now I play the PC version and when we play with our cousins they play the XBOX version on Xbox One, any way the PC version is the best in terms of FPS and general gameplay smoothness, but the console versions have Galactic Conquest multiplayer which is something that we have spent countless hours playing, and in the end Battlefront 2 will be one of the best shooters of all time, and better than the new Battlefront 2 because that one is no where near good enough to share a name with the classic one, any way, i will always love Battlefront 2 Favorite part(s): Galactic Conquest and shout out to the maps Kashyyyk and Tantine IV, they’re the best
Hey thanks for reading through this whole thing, uh as you can tell this was super long, i planned to do all ten in this one but i figure it’s gettimg pretty long and I’ll just stop here and I’ll have 5 through 1 tomorrow, Thank you so much! -Ben :3

Nintendo Direct March 8, 2018 – The Family Gaming Announcements
Nintendo posted a new Nintendo Direct video today. It was approximately a half hour long and featured games for both the Switch and 3DS. All of the games they discussed are currently planned for a 2018 release (with one exception). Take a look below for all of the big announcements!
The Nintendo Direct Video
youtube
The Nintendo 3DS
Wario Ware Gold
youtube
I have been wanting a Wario Ware game on the Switch for a while. Unfortunately, I’m not getting one. But, we are getting one for the 3DS. Wario Ware Gold is going to include over 300 mini games which makes it the biggest game in the franchise.
Dillon’s Dead Heat Breakers
youtube
I have no idea what this game is about. It appears to be a sci-fi combat racer with some other combat elements. I like the aesthetic. It feels like a cross between Star Fox and Mad Max. We’ll have to wait and see.
Bowzer’s Inside Story
youtube
Bowzer’s Inside Story is a part of the Mario and Luigi series. It involves a giant Bowzer and the Mario brothers adventures inside his body. Its like a cheeky role playing game version of Inner Space. It was a big hit when it released in 2009. I think it is a great time for it to be re-released with a fresh coat of paint. In fact, it will include Bowzer Jr.s Story. This will be a seperate adventure that will explain what happened in the Koopa Kingdom during the events of the main game.
Detective Pikachu!
youtube
Detective Pikachu is nothing new. Its been available in Japan for a while. There is even a movie coming out starring Ryan Reynolds (No. I’m not joking.) The big announcement here is that is is available for digital pre-purchase starting today. The game will be released on March 23rd.
Luigi’s Mansion
youtube
Luigi’s Mansion is a well-loved game from the GameCube era. It was one of the first games to feature Luigi as more than just a sidekick. The 3DS already has a sequel to the ghost-dustbusting adventure in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, but this is a full on re-make of the original.
The Nintendo Switch
Kirby Star Allies
youtube
Kirby Star Allies launches on March 16th, looks gorgeous, and features up to four-player multiplayer action. It was featured in the direct so they could announce Dream Friends; characters and villains from other Kirby games that can accompany you on your quest.
Okami HD
youtube
Okami HD is one of the most beautiful games ever made. It was remastered last year and released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but the Switch was conspicuously left off. It looks like Capcom is fixing that error now. I can’t wait to get my hands on this game this summer.
Sushi Striker: Way of the Sushido!
youtube
Sushi Striker looks like a pretty wacky game all things considered. It may be anime as all get out, but it has a certain wholesome fun that I think will fit in well on the Switch.
Mario Tennis Aces
youtube
Mario has had a lot of success in sports games in the past. The Mario Tennis line has long been one of my favorites. The Wii U version was disappointing, but Mario Tennis Aces looks like the real deal. I’m concerned that some of the mechanics that Nintendo has piled on might make the game less accessible to new players, but they are including a simple mode that will limit some of the shenanigans.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
youtube
YES! Captain Toad was one of my favorite games on the Wii U and I am very glad to see it given a new life on the Switch. It is perfect for the handheld. They even announced a 3DS version as well!
Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy
youtube
Crash used to the the Sony Mascot. He was their answer to Mario. Now? He has found his way onto a Nintendo console. Its weird how the world works.
Splatoon 2
youtube
Splatoon 2 has been a smash hit on the Switch ever since it launched. It only makes sense that Nintendo would cash in on that success in the form of paid DLC. The Octo Expansion will feature a new single player campaign and players will be able to play as Octolings in multiplayer once they complete it!
Super Smash Bros.
youtube
Super Smash Bros. is coming to the Nintendo Switch. This is a very big deal and will likely dominate the conversation between now and E3 where I am certain that they will give more details. The interesting details we can catch from this video are the following:
Inkling boy and Inkling girl
Link is in his Breath of the Wild costume
The title card doesn’t list Bandai Namco as the developer
We won’t know much more until Nintendo decides to tell us. But, I will be eagerly awaiting more news.
