MMMM what about crazy ex that isn't like the obvious i'm-obsessed-with-you type of crazy. they may have been just a summer thing w/o the alpha having any romantic feelings towards this "ex" and they may even be friends or something, but they're actually trying to get between the alpha's current relationship to have the alpha all for themselves? and the alpha doesn't realize but their omega does and chaos happens. the current partner could be sasuke or itachi, or whoever you want:)
Ooh, a spiteful and conniving ex? And also very brave to take on either of the Uchiha brothers and their 'too much' gene.
I'm going to go with Itachi as I just wrote something with Sasuke.
So, this ex is determined to break up you and Itachi.
He doesn't want to get with you, he just really wants to get some revenge for you leaving him for someone else.
So he plays the friend card.
He's ultra nice to you and Itachi on the surface, and he laughs off your fling like it doesn't impact the friendship.
But secretly, he's always plotting.
At first, he's play it cool.
He pretends to go through a really messy break up, turning up to your house in tears and crying on your shoulder all night, before pretending to fall asleep on you so you have to let him stay the night.
And of course, he schedules it for a night he knows you have an anniversary date with Itachi planned.
His next strategy is to suggest you two hang out and do a walk to the hokage head statue together.
But he purposefully forgets his heat meds and schedules it just in time to go into heat at the top of the mountain.
He also uses his heat as an excuse to latch onto you and rub up on you and cover you in his scent.
He pretends it was an embarrassing accident, but he relishes how uncomfortable Itachi gets whenever it's brought up, and he wishes he could have seen his face when you came home covered in his heat scent.
It's after this point that his mask starts to slip sometimes and he starts getting short and snappy with Itachi when they're alone.
Itachi is confused and a little hurt, but he doesn't think much of it.
Until he finds him coming out of his and your bedroom during a party at your house.
He claims to be lost and looking for the toilet, but Itachi isn't convinced.
Later that night, when he finds a soaked pair of panties at the back of your sock drawer, he realises what's been going on. He was in there to plant evidence that you'd been cheating on him with your ex.
Suddenly everything makes a lot more sense, but Itachi isn't sure what to do.
If he accuses your friend, will you even believe him?
Itachi is absolutely furious that someone is trying to break him and his partner up... so he watches and waits.
He gets Sasuke to slip some info to his classmates about a new pranking victim.
He gets Shisui to follow them around and gather evidence.
He pretends that everything is fine and he doesn't suspect a thing...
Until Shisui comes to him and says that your ex is planning on faking a miscarriage on Itachi's birthday, at his birthday party to ruin it and get all your attention.
So Itachi goes to you and explains what's been going on and says, if you don't believe me, here's what's going to happen tonight. How could I know this if it wasn't staged?
You hold judgement until Itachi's birthday party.
And sure enough, your ex pulls you aside and has a meltdown about how he's just had a miscarriage and he's hysterical and refusing to let you get help or leave him alone.
When you out what you know because of Itachi, your ex has the audacity to accuse your mate of spiking his drink to purposely cause a miscarriage to frame him for a crime he didn't do!!
You know that Itachi would never even consider doing such a thing, so you kick your ex out the back of the house and tell them to never come back again.
Then you promptly return to Itachi's party, sharing the good news and spoiling him as much as possible as an apology for the shenanigans your ex had put him through.
How dramatic!

amusement park
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[🗼]
characters: itachi uchiha; sasuke uchiha; shisui uchiha
genre: fluff; modern au
warnings: gn!reader; suggestive themes
Part 2
Tumblr media
-pretty boy itachi isn’t really fond of these places:((
-he loves being with you and appreciates your kindness for inviting him to such a nice place buttt he wouldn’t want to get on on any of the games that can potentially give him a heart attack
-he loves being with you and appreciates your kindness for inviting him to such a nice place buttt he wouldn’t want to get on on any of the games that can potentially give him a heart attack
-still, he will try to convince you not to try the most extremes ones because he doesn't want anything to happen to you ok please bare with him he just wants you to be with him so he is sure you are safe
-he will always take care of your purse/backpack; from the start–because he is such a gentleman– itachi would ask for whatever it is that you're carrying so you don't have to bother,,, omg this man seriously
-itachi pays for everything !! no objection, please don't even try to argue with him because he will NOT allow you to even spend one cent even if you were the one who invited him
-will take care of your belongings and your food if you have to go to the restroom
-not too much of pda because he is like that, will probably just hold your hand if you're not holding anything, but in the crowded areas, he is definitely touching you
-if you get very smoochy all of a sudden (?), unless it's only the two of you–like in the ferris wheel– he will give in, but if there's people around then no !! wait for his kisses
-(this happens a lot here where I live) it is impossible to scam this boy, ok he is too smart for the system, he knows all the tricks and is always except from any scamming; will be over you if you are talking to anyone in case they want to scam you
-at the end of the day, he is very exhausted omgg,, poor boy, so if you had fun then he is very grateful and happy, but an amusement park is not definitely his thing; wouldn't want it for a date
Tumblr media
-[I really don't know how to write him I'm so sorry in advance:(]
-i hc sasuke as someone quiet, calm, and definitely enjoys domestic quality time, so these types of places aren't really his thing
-you somehow succeeding in convincing him going with you to an amusement is beyond this world, so if it took a lot of begging, then maybe sasuke would be more sensible about your feelings and enjoyment
-he'll be particularly ok if you like riding those big extreme games, but will make a fuss if you are later on feeling bad for all the rides lol like you literally asked for it why are you complaining
-I feel like sasuke wouldn't object if you want to spend your own money as long as it is for something worthwhile
-like for example if you want to try some new exotic food, sasuke will tell you not to buy it because then what will you do if you don't like it? throw it away?? excuse him he doesn't like wasting food and money
-if you ask him though, he would play those games where you can win prizes and my looord he is so competitive lol
-he is most likely to want to be accompanied with another couple like kind of a double date,,, [idk why i just think so]
-my boy don't appreciate pda sorry:(( so if you even try to hold his hands he will be so shocked and even disgusted hahjd my god as if he wasn't a closet pervent pls sasuke go home or go big
-he wouldn't like to stay out all night, he'll probably grow tired from all the loud noise and the people,, he don't like people ok,, so after a few hours, say like three maximum, he would like to treat you with a nice dinner in his or your house uwu Im soft
Tumblr media
-my beautiful sunshine boy shisui !! he is the BEST person to go to an amusement park with
-will try all the games with you, even those that can give you a heart attack ok he loves that feeling lmao any kind of ride or roller coaster he is so up for the experience
-if you don't like those type of games, then he is okay with it, he puts your comfort and joy before his
-shisui will also be carrying your purse/backpack from the beginning !! he is such a young gentleman I love him so much and will carry any other thing you get through the day
-my god I feel like shisui is such a show off, he will try–and succeed–any of those stands where you can win prizes and get you a million prizes; he does it because he wants you to have something from him and also to show his incredible abilities ok
-he pays for everything as well !! he is a young gentleman don't go and try to take that title away from him; he pays for every insignificant thing you take a minimum interest in, for your food, and for anything else
-double checks your belt is well secured and takes a million photos of you and himself ok I picture him with almost half of his gallery full of embarrassing and cringy photos of both of you
-steals your food my god you insist to get two ice creams, but he claims he isn't hungry but then is all over your food
-he isn't against pda so he is all over you all the time, he has to be always touching you and sometimes he wants more than just holding your hand, he wants to be hugging you from the back or has you whole ass arm tucked in with his, he is clingy asf
-and if you get in the Ferris wheel !! he is devouring you no objections, you get off with your clothes messed up; he isn't probably doing anything more than just a steamy make up sesh,, unless,, of course you are up for something a little riskier
-shisui is always up for a date in an amusement park, he really enjoys the adrenaline from the games, and thinks it is the perfect environment to be with his favorite person, you

Hello 🎈How would Hashirama,Tobirama,Madara,Itachi,Pein,Sasuke,Naruto,Obito and shisui react to them body switching with their darling for a month?Thank you 🪄
I had my third vaccination today, wish me that it won’t knock me out for a bit.

Switching bodies for a month
Madara Uchiha
Tumblr media
🌑His reaction is honestly everything except amused, he’s actually quite pissed about this whole situation. And the embarrassment, oh the goddamn and burning embarrassment. Especially if it is a special type of jutsu he would be so much more ashamed because he couldn’t dodge in time and somehow his s/o got involved as well so here and there his anger sips out of him and he lets it out on them. The thing now is just…he feels so awkward scolding himself and under all means necessary will he keep this whole accident a secret from the village and he has the full support of his clan. They’re far too prideful to risk such a scratch on their pride, though to Madara’s huge disapproval Hashirama obviously finds out and being with him now in his darling’s body causes high embarrassment.
🌑One wrong look at this temporary state of his and Madara feels automatically ridiculed, but worse is by far that people lack now some sort of respect since his powers are in his body which you currently own and with that you do not have any reason to fear him really anymore, even you find this situation amusing. The elders do make sure that nothing happens to the bodies of you two whilst the hosts are so inexperienced, but it’s gonna be a long and dragging month for Madara. Darling can see this probably more positively, but they should still be aware that Madara will remember things that ticked him especially off.
Hashirama Senju
Tumblr media
🌳He’s more flabbergasted and confused than he is frustrated with all of this at first, even if it comes to hit him eventually quickly what troubles this sudden event will cause. His clan is far more in a sudden alert and even if they already know that this is supposed to be the norm for the whole next month, they run left and right to undo this body switch as fast as possible. Madara as head of the clan is already burdened with duties, but Hashi is a goddamn Kage who must take care of the whole village and if word gets out in what state he currently is, a village might try to attack whilst he can’t use his kekkai genkai. Worst of all is that he is a popular guy and it might be a bit too suspicious if he would disappear for a whole month.
🌳It’s still crystal clear that you can’t act like him for a whole month either so an excuse will be found to why he has to isolate himself a bit for the next month. If his darling is a responsible person they might be allowed to do a bit of the Kage work, Hashirama probably even let them do it in the past a few times so they’re not a complete amateur, Tobirama helps more now as well and Hashirama still does his part as well. Hashi tries to stay positive and in a good mood the whole time to erase the awkwardness, it’s only a month after all. As long as nothing happens, you shouldn’t be so down because you’re in this man’s body and he’s in yours. Though even he has troubles how to exactly handle body hygiene in a body that doesn’t belong to him.
Tobirama Senju
Tumblr media
🌊Listen, he really does do his best to stay as calm as possible and to solve this all as fast as he can. But the moment his brother and his clan find out, he still feels like wanting to hide in a corner and stay there for the following few weeks. Tobirama has his pride as well and there is a small crack upon this somewhat humiliating experience. Tobi handles it far better than Madara though and he can grip his mind enough until it has cooled down enough. He has to make some plans quickly since he is the Hokage as well and so he is all too informed about the dangers that can come flying to this village if everyone finds out that the current body of the Hokage is possessed by someone who doesn’t know how to fully use his power and that he is in darling’s body. Just like with Madara and Hashirama, Tobirama can also fully rely on his clan to assist him and make sure that word doesn’t get out.
🌊He doesn’t quite trust you with his body, not as terrible as Madara, but he still would want someone to watch over you if he isn’t with you. He won’t take a break from work though, only that now he works somewhere differently on all his paper work, you’re free to assist him if you possess enough knowledge though. Being stuck in your body and having to talk to his own face turns him maybe for a short while the tiniest bit more humble. It’s not totally obvious, but over time it’s clear that he just wants this all to end, he wants his body back. It’s impossible to talk seriously to you with this body switch and it’s uncomfortable and awkward on top of that.
Pain
Tumblr media
🌧Pain is in a way more of an additional personality to Nagato and someone he controls so him and Konan are slightly confused to how Pain and the darling could switch bodies if Yahiko’s body is more of an empty shell. It leads to a huge chaos in regards of the Akatsuki plans since this Pain is a extremely important factor in it all, but Nagato simply is far too paranoid to send him out whilst your soul is inside of it. That isn’t even the main problem in here because if he suddenly isn’t able to control this body anymore because you switched bodies with it, that means you have enough power to escape this place, even if after one month everything would be over.
🌧On further expansion this could only mean that Nagato on the other hand would be able to control his darling’s body now and he will use this out of fear of them running away against them, not to mention that his s/o should know that he’ll take down entire villages if it helps him finding you. That is only if he loses control over this body since he has embedded receivers into Yahiko’s body after all and is able to control the body with the chakra he channels inside the body. If that is the case, you’ll be more of a puppet he keeps close until everything is over. Now if Nagato is the one switching bodies with his s/o, that will at the very last bring a true storm, leaving Konan and a slightly unnerved Nagato, who is living in your body for now, left to try what they possibly can to keep the organization intact and at the same time trying to guarantee that you don’t accidentally or in purpose try to use the Six Paths of Pain.
Obito Uchiha
Tumblr media
🔥He has his part to play in the Akatsuki as well as their secret leader so all of this already might get difficult yet that isn’t the part Obito worries that much about. Not even partially enough as about the fact that a sudden body switch happened which has to lead to the instant assumption that it was a jutsu, someone’s attack. That is what freaks him out and it’s the major reason for his frenzy behavior afterwards. It’s by now hopefully known that Obito will gladly see the world in flames if it’s just to assure that you are safe and without any knowledge what happened and if something else will come, he feels the instant threat of that precious safety that is worth any blood and death.
🔥It is less about a fear that you’ll run away or awkwardness that he is now in your body and you in his, it’s just good and old paranoia, a sheer one on that topic, that he won’t be able to protect you like this if someone would choose to attack. Since he is in your body he also has to be so careful with everything since he has to watch out that he won’t put a single minor injury on it whilst his soul is living inside of it. The thing with Obito is that he breaks his darling’s mindset at one point as well and forces them to see the world in the way he does. It’s terrible to drown under such paranoid pressure, but it’ll come quite handy for the Uchiha as well since they obviously are far too frightened to even try to escape or leave Obito who they believe to be the only one who can keep them save.
Shisui Uchiha
Tumblr media
🍂Given the fact that Shisui works for the Anbu and gets quite the dangerous and risky missions, he has to inform the Hokage about this unexpected incident. His clan discovers the truth one way or another as well, even if obvious not all of them will be aware. Shisui might not even know what exactly happened in here as well and that unnerves him which is why he will investigate in this case a bit further to know what was the cause of this sudden body switch. Especially if it’s unclear how long his darling and him will be affected by this thing. If informations come out that the effect starts weakening and turning things back to normal after one month and there is no chance to shorten that time, all he can really do is wait together with his s/o.
🍂He tries to be a sweetheart by doing whatever he can think about to cheer his darling a bit up and lessen the thick and extremely uncomfortable tension that has wrapped itself around them like a cloak. Hey, it isn’t like he doesn’t struggle with this peculiar month himself, he just doesn’t pounder about it too much so he can keep sight on important things. He worries too, you know? Not being able to fight as effectively as before and not being able to risk your body for a bloody battle if one should occur, he has to ask Itachi for some assistance. The people of his clan who are aware are bound to watch over his s/o anyways since they can’t be careless and risk an intruder taking advantage of this situation and chase after the Sharingan.
Itachi Uchiha
Tumblr media
🍡I have to say, for Itachi this is probably the most difficult to handle since various factors play against him right now. As a criminal who is written down in every bingo book and wanted in several nations, kidnapping his darling and guaranteeing their stay and their safety is already a task not that easy. But with both him and you suddenly being pulled out of your body and placed into the other one, life only seems to want to complicate things further for him. He can’t possibly let his s/o go on his missions like this and get involved with his business, even if they would be not inexperienced with fighting. Controlling and mastering the Sharingan isn’t something they can just learn in one month and all the taijutsu, genjutsu and ninjutsu adds hundred other reasons to the list to why he can’t let them go.
🍡With no one else to turn to, Itachi ends up having to tell his partner Kisame about it so he can hopefully speak up for him if during the month any missions should come in for the two of them or possible meetings. The Kirigakure rouge is…something in between confused as hell and lightly amused when confronted with this scene for the first time, but he respects the Uchiha so he’ll agree most likely to think of something. The following month can really only be spent waiting until everything returns to normal, that doesn’t make it less embarrassing and awkward though. Even Itachi has his struggles here and there and on top of that he is most of the time concerned what he should do if someone finds you two.
Naruto Uzumaki
Tumblr media
🍜Naruto is a paranoid and protective Yandere as well so he naturally throws a tantrum if anything happened to his s/o, only that this time it wasn’t an attack he expected. He doesn’t even grasp the full meaning of this situation for a whole while before someone explains it to him and that is when his mind goes a bit blank, the gears in his head turning as if still not fully understanding all of this. News end up spreading faster than wanted, though at the very last it is kept somewhat under control. The majority of his friends and other shinobi do know and since Naruto is so popular and adored by the citizens, it is extremely hard to let nothing seep through. The council pressures to find out what exactly happened and they obviously want their Kage as fast as possible back in his body, even if this all supposedly only stops after one month.
🍜People like Kakashi, Sai and Sakura will lend their help wherever they can as well, be it discovering how to undo the jutsu, helping with the Kage work or simply taking care of two people who have no idea what to do in the body of their partner. Just try to imagine how frustrating this can be sometimes for Naruto, imagining that he wouldn’t be able to do much if someone would plan to murder you in this moment with your body that he can’t risk being majorly ruffled up either. To ease his overprotective paranoia a bit, someone from his best friends will have to look out for you a bit. Kurama is not exactly thrilled about this development either, though he attempts to take it with a dry humor.
Sasuke Uchiha
Tumblr media
💙With Sasuke the time where it happens determines how he will act and react to it all. If it’s during the time of his teenage years, it is totally safe to assume that he’s pissed, oh so pissed, about this all and since he can’t quite handle his emotions, he lets his moods out on his s/o. As long as he isn’t proven differently, he will always see his s/o weaker than him and being stuck in their body with his mindset means that he feels like he won’t be able to accomplish anything, blaming along with this his darling for being so weak. Waiting a whole month won’t cut it for him either, he doesn’t have time for this. If Orochimaru is still alive at that point, he will help Sasuke since despite his interest to this phenomenon, he wants Sasuke back in his body as well, Sasuke will force him anyways even if his threats might be in this current body not as affective. If we’re talking about him being already an adult, he won’t act quite as rash.
💙He’s far from having achieved inner peace with this situation, but he thinks it through more carefully and schemes everything out as good and as fast as he can. He wanders around with his darling until he decides to finally settle down which means that he will try at first to handle everything on his own. He has collected some knowledge throughout his journeys and has been gifted new skills and abilities so he will try to find a way to return your souls to the right body instead of sitting around for one month. It’s not only that he worries about bumping into the wrong kind of people, he becomes a bit warily whether or not his s/o will attempt to do something with this temporarily borrowed body.

WARNING:  This post contains yandere themes (unhealthy relationships and mentions of dubcon) and mentions of other toxic behaviours and sensitive issues (such as abortion) that can be triggering and uncomfortable to read. So, read at your own risk. This work is purely fiction. I do not condone this toxic behaviour irl.
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing: Sasuke x Reader | Itachi x Reader
Status: Headcanons, requested.
Ask:  Can I request hc for Yan Naruto, Sasuke and Itachi having their first son with their darling? Would it change the way you treat your darling at all? What would your relationship with your son be like?
Thoughts, head not empty: Weirdly, I don’t see Yandere Sasuke wanting any kids to be frank. He’s more on the selfish and possessive side and would want to keep you to himself. But at the same time, Sasuke is a versatile yandere. He has the potential to be a manipulative asshole,  clingy and possessive, or all of these. Assumingly, from the different fanfictions I’ve read, people do / did have this notion that Sasuke would have many children to “restore” his clan and etc. But I just think that given his background and personality (such a lone wolf), he would probably just keep his s/o around and not care about anyone else.
This is just a bit irrelevant to this ask, but for my own want to do a bit comparison. For the Uchiha clan, characters I believe would have kids with their s/o would be: Madara (this bloke has a huge breeding kink and you can’t convince me otherwise), Shisui, Obito, Izuna, and maybe Itachi. I think with Itachi and Shisui they would probably just one or two child/ren and no more. Madara and Izuna, given the era they grow in and the family they, themselves are from, might want a big family. Obito is a huge simp so I can see him wanting a big family too.
Anyway, on to the ask:
Sasuke
Tumblr media
Headcanons
~He is more of the type to use his son as leverage over you in order to keep you in check. If you come to care about your child and have a rebellious streak with him, then he finally has something he can use to make you more obedient to him.
~It would not be evident because other than what he wants with you, Sasuke is a subtle person. He is not outright affectionate or susceptible to being too emotionally attached. Therefore, it would take a long time but eventually, he would come to care for his child in his own way. Especially considering that your son is proof of your love and the living evidence that you belong to him. Additionally, having your son did make you more submissive so he is appreciative of that.
~He won’t be too involved in his son’s life. Given that’s how Fugaku was like that with him (and more focused on Itachi) that would be mirrored in Sasuke’s parenting, particularly when he didn’t care about the child being born that much anyway. As long as his son doesn’t do anything to tarnish your relationship and his image, he can do whatever.
~In the instance your son, when older, tries to protect you from him and etc, there will be two things: he will either kill him or take him away from you and under his wing. Train him to be a shinobi like himself, and actually brainwash them into becoming his tool to watch over you in his place when he’s not there.
Would it change the way he treat his darling?
Yes. Like I said, his son will be become a leverage against his you so in the way he has something he can manipulate you with. Also, Sasuke is possessive. So to keep your son alive, you better not prioritize him over Sasuke. Sasuke should still be your priority, and all the duties you have to fulfill for him cannot be excused. He doesn’t care about the child. You choose to keep it so while he will help you, you can’t that as a reason to spend less time with him. And once the baby is born, its like you’re dealing with two kids because you need to give Sasuke the time he requires from you and anything with the baby comes second.
What would the darling’s relationship with their son be like?
Sasuke’s son, again, in my opinion be a mirror of his childhood self prior to the annihilation of the Uchiha clan. Happy go lucky, and a cute little mama’s boy. Your son will love you because if you choose to have him, it evidently means you love him a lot. He’ll probably be one of the only things in your life left that you have because you choose to and not because Sasuke forced you to. So, for the reason to love him and have him give that back to you. Of course when he is old enough, he will question you, his sweet mummy about the dark bruising on your skin and why papa doesn’t love him like you do, and why papa glares at you if you end up spending too much time with him. And the only thing you can do is hold your sweet innocent little boy tightly.
Itachi
Tumblr media
Headcanons
~Similar to Sasuke, a child with Itachi is not planned. It’s something that just ended up happening because he’s more than happy to just have you by his side. But unlike Sasuke, you conceiving his child is not something he is against. If you are more on the rebellious side and he sees that you come to care for his child, then the more manipulative and sadistic part of him is not against threatening to hurt your son to make you more obedient. However, if that was the case, Itachi wouldn’t actually hurt or kill his child. He will use genjutsu, showing you vivid imagery of violence of what he could do, to make you submit. And we all know what a great illusionist he is so there is no way that would not work. Additionally, the chances of this scenario are almost non-existent though because he would be too good in mind-breaking you and getting you to return his love at an early stage.
~Itachi would know you’re pregnant with his child before you’d know. And in case you don’t want his child and try to get rid off it, he won’t let you.
~Itachi would be a loving father. He will fall in love with his child, no matter the gender, the moment you know you’re pregnant because that’s a life; that’s a life him and you have created together and nothing else would declare your shared love for each other to the world than your child.
~Itachi will be involved with his son’s childhood. He will train him in the ninja arts asap and make him an exceptional prodigy like he was so other than him, your son is also there to protect you.
Would it change the way he treat his darling?
Not really. If you’re a good girl then he’s good to you before your son, and he will be good to you after. He loves deeply so may be after you have his son, he might come to love you more. After your son that’s like him, he might be tempted to want another kid, but this time, a daughter who’s like you.
What would the darling’s relationship with their son be like?
Your son is influenced by his papa a lot so he will love you a lot. In the situation when you didn’t want Itachi’s child, Itachi would make sure to communicate his expectations of you clearly: you need to be a loving and nurturing to his son or else he will kill your loved ones. So whether it be by choice, or against your will, your son will see you as the best mother because you will be required to be nurturing towards him and raise him with lots of love.

Commission for the ever so lovely @bouncyirwin - who spreads joy, happiness, and support as freely and easily as some people breathe (this fandom wouldn’t be the same without you 💜💜💜💜💜)
---
How anyone could so much as breathe without adoration hitching their efforts around her, Shisui really didn’t know.
This wasn’t even the first time this week he’d found himself staring in awe without a word able to escape him. Sakura had a way of making him dumb to the quick wit and playful flirting that usually came as natural as most any other social interaction to him - he’d always been the social butterfly of his clan, berated for it at times and having his hair fondly tousled at others. And yet here he sat, in the corner of the little restaurant Sakura and her team and her team’s families had all crowded into, unable to absorb any of the chatter or whatever joke had Kakashi snickering behind his book or even what had Naruto and the brat arguing this time.
Sakura seemed content enough to sit back and soak it all in as well, pride in the soft smile that graced her lips, a cup of tea cradled in her hand near her chest in lieu of the spirit that many of her companions had chosen to partake in this evening. And who could blame them? Rare was the day any shinobi party could come back unscathed along with their success, and given the tentative peace between Konoha and Kiri could have been destroyed at the smallest misstep their celebration came with relief felt by the entire village.
It warmed him to no end to see her so content and sure, so proud, none of the hesitance that used to haunt her expressions and tense her body anywhere to be found - the kunoichi that had chased and chased after her teammates had long since caught up and surpassed them in so many ways, and even without being privy to the intimate details of her internal battles Shisui could feel emotion trying to choke him.
Gods, but he had it bad, didn’t he? He forced some of his own tea down, looking away from the woman who had no idea she held his heart so tightly in her grip, scrubbing his face with his free hand in an attempt to clear his head. Admiration was one thing - very understandable in this case, given Sakura set the precedent for strong and capable shinobi who could punch a ravine into existence - but they could hardly even be called friends if he was honest with himself. So openly staring at her with his heart in his eyes could definitely count as creepy.
Maybe he needed more hobbies.
“Not really like you to hang out on the sidelines.”
It was a bit embarrassing to be snuck up on like that. He hoped his surprise wasn’t too obvious as he peeked through his hands, finding the woman who’d been occupying his thoughts all night now occupying the seat next to him. Up so close he could see her cheeks were dusted pink, though he couldn’t really tell if it was the chill from the night air or just some blush she’d painted on.
Either way. It didn’t really matter which one it was. All Shisui could really do with the information is filing it under “she’s the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever met” and keep the simple image of her tucking some pink hair behind her ear firmly in his mind’s eye for the rest of his days.
“Not a place I’d expect to find you either.” She blinked at his words as if confused, pursing her lips even, so despite how obvious it seemed to him Shisui clarified, “You more the frontline type, right?”
“Ah, yeah, I don’t really care for ‘supporting others’ to mean ‘being left behind.’ But today,” Sakura turned just enough to look over at her teammates, Shisui following her gaze to see Naruto gesturing wildly in horror at something that had Sasuke snickering unashamedly. “Today, I think I’m alright with not being in the middle of them. There are some conversations I’d rather they have without me.”
“What even has them going, anyway?”
“Relationships,” Sakura said, a little too quickly. But she didn’t let the awkwardness stay, her eyes flicking down to her tea which she held between her hands as if her fingers might be cold. Shisui wished he could warm them between his own. “Well, not exactly relationships. More like things people do in them. They seem to find it amusing to list all the people they’ve managed to kiss or make out with.”
With a snort, Shisui said, “I’m guessing they’re both at the top of each other’s lists then?”
He was very glad to see the tiny bit of tension relax right away from Sakura as she laughed, her eyes alight with mirth. “Somehow, they always seem to forget to mention that.”
“Bet you love to remind them.”
“Bet I do.” She flashed him a smile that had his ears heating up, and for the life of him Shisui could not say why it made him feel bold.
Despite how calm people saw him, despite his rather laid back nature, Shisui often found himself tongue tied where feelings were involved. But past his beating heart he somehow managed to not make a fool of himself, his nerves not overwhelming him - perhaps it was simply how welcomed he felt in her presence? How inviting and warm she was even as all she did was sip her tea, simply existing but existing there, next to him, when any number of seats were available next to those she was far closer to. And didn’t that make him feel lucky.
“Do you have a list?”
The gods only knew how he managed to make that sound casual. Even when Sakura’s eyes widened and blinked up at him (he swore his favorite color used to be blue but damn if that shade of green wasn’t going to change that) - and for a terrifying moment he remembered just how easily this woman could demolish any wall that stood in her way. With her fist.
Even if that wall was made with solid concrete, or was, say, a whole ass mountain. He was pretty sure he wasn’t anywhere near as solid as a mountain.
When she chose to not punch him, every single last bone in his body heaved a sigh of thankfully unbroken relief. “No, I...don’t have a list.”
No list? That was a little surprising. “A name, then?” Maybe not the best thing to ask someone, at least not before he was sure she would be comfortable with answering. Shisui was quick to add “Unless it’s a secret or something” - the last thing he needed was to drive her away by pushing into her own personal life.
Though, then again - and something in Shisui rose up in slight saddened panic at the thought - what would he do if she did have a name? A significant other? Itachi was out on another of his long missions, who exactly was he supposed to lean on and eat comfort chocolate with if it turned out his growing crush was, well...crushed, before anything could come of it?
“No. No name.”
It took physical effort to not sag with some sort of relief at her words, but it wasn’t a relief that Shisui had much time to process. Because as much as he wanted a chance with the woman of his dreams, as much as he had wanted to hear that...
“Eh? Really? You?” Shisui found it beyond the realms of possibility that Sakura, of all the people in Konoha, had yet to have her first kiss, and that shock was perhaps a bit too loud in his tone.
Definitely not good for his health and wellbeing. The nerve on Sakura’s forehead was suddenly twitching, and the sharp look she sent his way had him gulping.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Oh, no! No no, nothing- I didn’t mean like that!” He shook his head a little more than necessary, horror dawning on him as he realized his unintentional insinuation. “I just meant- you’re just, well, beautiful! Beautiful and an exceptional shinobi, a damn good medic, and from what Sasuke’s told me in confidence you make a mean blueberry tart. Not to mention you could punch through steel if it offended you.” By some grace of the gods he managed to bit off his rambling there, scratching nervously at the back of his head, almost mumbling as he ended his poor excuse of an explanation with, “I just expected, you know… You might have kissed at least one of the people who admired you.”
The moments of quiet after his words were probably the most terrifying seconds of his life, though by some mercy Sakura did not seem angry. Maybe his apology/explanation was acceptable after all and he wouldn’t have to-
Sakura said something under her breath, and Shisui blinked back out of his thoughts, frowning a little in confusion. “What?”
“It’s just that I…” Her bottom lip caught between her teeth for a moment, drawing Shisui’s eyes. “I’ve never really had an appealing offer. You know?”
Had she always been sitting that close to him? Their thighs were touching and Shisui couldn’t remember when that had happened, but his pulse picked up, the whole of him keenly aware of every inch of her.
And how bad would it be, really, to be buried in the ground by those deceptively slender fingers?
“Would I,” Shisui started, with a smooth tone that belied how his heart beat frantically in his chest, “qualify as an appealing offer?”
A breath. Two. Sakura’s gaze flickered down to his lips as hers parted the barest bit - and even before she nodded Shisui knew her answer - though he knew not how he'd been so lucky as to get a yes.
Her hair was soft under his fingers as he cupped the back of her head, her pupils wide as she tilted her chin to look up at him. Somewhere in the back of his mind he was aware that they were not alone, their friends and coworkers laughing and drinking and chattering away not even half a small restaurant away from them, but all of him preferred to focus on Sakura’s hand now coming to rest on his arm, the way she shifted forward as he leaned closer, how intimate it felt to brush their noses together, her breath tickling his lips.
And then their lips met, and the rest of the world fell away.

Bleed for me
Pairing: ShiSaku
Rating: M (for violence)
Summary: Shisui didn’t like people touching what was his
for day 3 of shiSaku weekend: Yakuza AU, obsession, You’re mine and only mine @shisakuweek
Also posted on AO3
A pale child laid in a hospital bed. Their skin almost blending into the stark white sheets that encased the bed. A man and woman sat beside the bed holding onto the child’s hand. Tears could be seen streaming down their faces. They spoke sweet nothings into her ear. The young girl could not hear what they were saying. It was hard to distinguish the small fragile body of the girl from the lines going to and from her. She was almost more machine than human at this point.
The click clack of heels could be heard nearing the door. A gentle knock took the couples attention from their child to the woman now in the room.
“Mr and Mrs. Sato, I’m Doctor Sakura Haruno and here to talk to you about Rin.” The married couple grasped onto each other. They stared at the woman before them, waiting on bated breath for good news.
“I am one of the transplant doctors who specialize in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. Do you mind if I sit as we talk about Ms. Rin?” A gentle smile made its way onto Dr. Haruno’s face as the couple nodded their heads yes.
“As you know Rin was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. She has undergone the three stages of repair for her condition, but has now developed complications from not having a 4 chambered heart.” Sakura paused giving time for the parents to process. She always hated these conversations. She glanced at the child laying in the bed. It was likely that good news would not come to this family.
“She has started to develop heart failure in combination with protein losing enteropathy, PLE, as we call it. We do not know the exact reason why some children who have undergone the second or third stage of repair develop this condition. There are some experimental procedures that some surgery centers have tried with little improvement in the patient's condition.” Another pause.
“We are currently pumping the blood through her body artificially with the machine you see. I know when Rin was placed on this they told you what it entails. Her heart is no longer strong enough to function. The machine is giving her lungs a break as well. Right now the best chance Rin has is a heart transplant. She will be near the top of the list in her current state. However, I want you to prepare for the worst case scenario. I am not sure when there will be a donor who matches Rin’s needs…” The words faded into the background for the couple as the sobs overtook them. The doctor placed a hand on the wife’s back rubbing soothing circles. She hoped for a miracle, but life was a cruel bitch.
_______________________________-
The doctor from before was sitting at a bar stool, her petal pink hair cascading down her back. She took a swig of the beer in her hand wanting to erase the day she had. She was dressed to kill with a body hugging backless dress. It was wine red in color, accentuating her alabaster skin. Her green eyes shined like emeralds.
She felt a calloused hands caress her back causing her muscles to twitch. She could smell the alcohol on the individual's breath.
“Aint you a pretty little thing. Let me buy you a drink and you can repay me later.” She had to roll her eyes.
“Beat it. I’m not interested.” She didn’t even bother looking at the man.
“Come on pinky. I can rock your world. You look like you need something stiff.” His laugh grated on her nerves. When he wouldn’t leave her alone, she got up and started to leave. The oaf of a man couldn’t take the hint and grabbed her waist, pulling her to him. She wanted to hurl fron the stench.
“You smell good pinky.” He was starting to rub his nose in her neck. Before she could send her elbow to the man’s skull he was already falling to the ground.
“Ahh!” The drunken idiot now had a foot crushing the bones in his hand. Sakura could hear the crunch of bone from where she was.
“I think the lady told you she wasn’t interested.” A rich baritone voice spoke.
“Oh you just want the bitch for yourself. Find your own. I saw this one first.” The man before her applied more force through his foot, causing the man below him to groan in agony.
“I think it would be best if you leave before something unsightly happens to you.” Sakura knew the man’s fate was dealt the moment he touched her. Sakura already saw a few men in the corner start to move. Once the drunk was up and moving to the exit, he was being followed.
“Was that really necessary, Shisui?” Sakura took the martini from him and started to sip it slowly. She melted when he wrapped his right arm around her. He brought his index finger to her chin and traced her bone structure. Shisui stopped once he was under her chin and turned her face to look at him.
“He was touching what was mine. Don’t forget you’re mine and only mine.” Shisui then sealed their lips together with a kiss.
“Hmm don’t forget you are mine as well.” Shisui smirked. He wouldn’t have it any other way. Shisui would do anything for her. _______________________________
Shisui sat in his leather chair listening to his lackeys talk about different shipments. He really didn’t care at the moment. Sakura was upset about one of her patients. While she told him most things, she always kept her work at arms length from him. Well she tried to for the most part.
When Itachi entered the room Shisui found his back straightening. The glint in Itachi’s eye told Shisui that he was successful in his mission.
“You three leave now.” The three scattered out the door faster than cockroaches clearing ,when a light was turned on. The two waited for the door to close before speaking.
“It appears Sakura has a patient who recently went on the heart transplant list. It's a young girl 8-9 years of age. She has two younger siblings. Mother is an elementary school teacher and father works for a bank. He is a low level teller. The nurses were saying how they don’t think a match will come in on time. Parents are preparing for the worse.”
Shisui leaned onto his clasped hands. “Did you get her blood type and cross matching?”
Itachi smirked and held up a file. “Of course I did. I also tracked down some of the regulars at that bar the two of you go to. I found one who is a match.”
This was just all too perfect.
“You know what to do. Sakura and I will be meeting there for drinks tonight.” Shisui got up from his desk and grabbed his jacket. He was going to kill two birds with one stone. Rid the world of a lowly excuse for a human being and make Sakura happy.
___________________________________________
Shisui had gotten to the bar early to make sure he was sitting in a dark corner. He watched the man go to the bar and order his drink. The bartender glanced his way and Shisui gave a nod. The guy was too busy talking with his friends to see the purple liquid get added to his drink. In just 30-60 minutes the man would lose all inhibitions and fall into the trap.
Itachi was stationed with two others around the bar. The moment Sakura walked into the bar Shisui’s breath escaped his lungs. He could never figure out how she looked so ethereal.
_________________________________________
Sakura snuggled to the man next to her. She buried her nose into his chest. He smelled of sandalwood.
“Hmm where did you go after we got home?” Sakura mumbled as she talked to him. Before he could answer her pager went off. Sakura jumped out of bed and grabbed her phone.
Soon she was kissing Shisui and rushing to get dressed. Shisui just leaned back in their shared bed. Thinking of earlier.
The blade ran up and down the man’s skin. Shisui made sure not to apply enough pressure to cut into the epidermis, at least not yet. The man’s arms and legs were bound to the table immobilizing him.
“Do you know why you are here...What’s your name again?” The man was a sobbing mess.
“K..Ken. Please I have a family.” Anger boiled in Shisui’s veins. He grabbed Ken’s chin, squeezing hard.
“You have a family? Do they know you were at a bar trying to force yourself on women?”
“I’ve never.” A forceful sob caused Ken’s body to jerk violently. Shisui squeezed harder on the man’s jaw. He could feel the bones give under his grip, with a flick of the wrist he jaw gave way.
“What were you doing tonight then? Touching what is mine.” Shisui knew he was not going to get an answer due to the dislocated jaw in his hand.
“Don’t worry your life will mean something once it is ended.” Shisui took his other hand and dug the knife at the base of Ken’s skull. He had read enough of Sakura’s medical textbooks to know the right place to hit to render someone brain dead. Ken would still have his brainstem functions allowing his heart to beat long enough for it to live in another.
In the corner sat Kabuto. While Shisui didn’t agree with his politics, he knew the man could keep a secret. Kabuto also knew better than to cross Shisui. Shisui would not waste any time adding more bodies to the bottom of the ocean.
“You know your part?” Shisui cleaned off his blade.
“Yes. I will take this man to the OR after declaring him brain dead. The nurses will find his organ donor card and alert the transplant team.”
“What are you waiting for? Go.” Shisui wanted to go back home and crawl into his bed. He knew his slumber was going to get distrubed in a few hours with the page Sakura was going to get.
Sakura was running around their bedroom grabbing the nearest article of clothing to dress in. Shisui threw the covers off his body and followed her.
“What are you doing?” Shisui just raised an eyebrow.
“I’ll take you to work so you can rest on the way there. I don’t have work in the morning so I can stay to drive you home.” Shisui melted when he saw her smile. He soon felt arms around his neck and a soft kiss.
“You’re amazing. I can never get over how kind of a husband I have.” Shisui just rested his head on hers before hurrying her to the car.
_____________________________________
He was pacing back and forth. He could see a couple with two young children sitting in the uncomfortable waiting room chairs. Sakura had been in the OR for over 5 hours now. He was lucky she let him sleep in her office, but he was restless. Multiple what if questions ran through his brain. Shisui started chewing on his thumb nail. He ignored the pointed looks from the staff and visitors who passed him.
Shisui propped himself on the wall. He wanted a view of the OR doors when they opened. After another hour or two, the doors finally opened. Sakura’s hair was tucked under her scrub cap and part of her face obscured by her surgical mask, but she still looked stunning. As he watched her walk over to the family Shisui knew it was all worth it.
It just wasn’t tonight that was worth it. He thought back to when he first met his wife. She was a struggling medical student who his little cousin brought over to stitch him up. Shisui was ensnared in her beauty at that moment. She didn’t bat an eyelash when he cursed at her due to the pain. Sakura didn’t care who he was or how he would be taking the mantle of the Yakuza head.
Shisui spent months planning on how he would bump into her. He memorized her schedule, followed her some nights. She became his obsession. His life was consumed by her. He felt like a nervous fool asking her out the first time. They fell into a comfortable rhythm after that. She was always by his side. Shisui found that they shared a lot of the same ideals.
“Shisui did you get any sleep?” Her hand on his shoulder brought him out of his thoughts.
“I got some. Let’s get you home. Was the surgery successful?” He held her close as they walked back to her office.
“It was. Thank you.” Her head rested on his shoulder as they walked.
“No need to thank me.” Shisui found himself against her office wall as she devoured him.
“Without you there would have been no surgery tonight. So thank you. You got Kabuto to help didn’t you?” Well hearing that rat's name killed the mood.
“You said you didn’t want to be involved anymore.” They stood in her office embracing.
“You know it’s best for me to not be involved. Let’s get back home to Hiroyuki, he’ll be missing us.” Sakura was right. Their son would be missing them.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Two Hundred Fourteen: New Coat ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
Hinata has always been the frugal type. Her clan’s rather conservative ways - including the monetary - were drilled into her from an early age. Spending money on anything superfluous - even clothes she thought she didn’t really need, or a simple snack when she really wasn’t that hungry - would nag at her until she gave in and let the guilt outweigh her wants.
As soon as she started earning from her missions, nearly every spare bit was socked away and saved. While many of her friends would spend their ryō on outings and meetups in Konoha, Hinata always managed to dodge the events...either by skipping them altogether, or insisting she wasn’t hungry when they went for lunch, or that she’d just gotten new clothes when dragged into a boutique with the other girls of her year.
Even after the war, old habits are hard to break...but she does her best to try to...relax. The past year has taught her a lot...and she keeps learning as she goes. Life is short. What’s going to be the point in keeping so much money saved up if she ends up dying young? Sure, the war is leading to great change...but many aspects of their world are still dangerous. She still takes missions. Still puts her life on the line as a now-jōnin. Sure, she can leave it to someone - most likely her sister. But the Hyūga clan’s stinginess regarding money means having rather hefty coffers. Even without her sister’s potential inheritance, Hanabi will never want for anything.
And, well...it’s not like she has any children to leave it to.
...yet.
So...Hinata starts taking baby steps. A little trinket here, a little edible goodie there. Nothing extreme, nor too frequent. Just allowances to her own money, and her own happiness.
And as she gets to know Sasuke - another previous penny pincher - she only gets better. He, too, clung to every spare monetary reward. While the Uchiha fortunes were tucked away for him ‘when he got older’, he had a small allowance from it to live on...and anything extra, he’d keep in case of an emergency. Like Hinata, he really had no need to...even if it was unwittingly, his clan and family left him a generous living...that was regulated by the village until he reached adulthood.
And by some miracle, it wasn’t stolen away during his absence. With not just himself, but Itachi and Shisui too returned to Konoha...that money was very quickly taken back into their custody, and the village has no more hands in their pockets.
Even so, he remains a fairly light spender. His rather focused lifestyle as a child means little attachment to things. He hates clutter, and finds little point in things like knick knacks. Sentimental objects are another story...but those rarely have to be bought.
But even he notices that Hinata takes a bit...too far. So he tries to encourage her.
“Hm...I don’t know…”
“Get it.”
“But- ?”
“You like it, don’t you?”
Hinata looks back to the shirt she’s eyeing. “...well, yes. But -”
“Do you think it would afford you its price worth in happiness?”
A blink, and then she checks the tag again. She’s...never thought of it that way before. “...I...think so.”
“Then get it.”
“But I have a full wardrobe already -”
“Then why are you looking?”
Lips pursing at his incessant questions. “I...I don’t know…”
“If you don’t actually want something here, then there’s no point. If you want something, but aren’t going to let yourself have it, you’re just being mean to yourself by standing here and pining over it. It’s an article of clothing. It’s not going to expire. You can wear it as much as you want until either it wears out, or gets torn, or you outgrow it. Point is...you like it, you want it, you’ll use it, and it’s hardly about to wipe out your savings. So why say no? And no,” he cuts in, seeing her open her mouth, “saying you already have clothes doesn’t cut it. It’s still something with a use. Having another in your arsenal doesn’t detract from what you have. If anything, they’ll all last a little longer because you have another to cycle through.”
The pair stare at one another, and...Hinata finds she has no retort. “...okay, fine. But just this one.”
Sasuke nods.
Baby steps.
On their way up to pay, having to stop behind a few other customers, Hinata glances around idly...and then pauses. There’s a clearance rack in a corner...she hadn’t seen that before. And just in plain view, as though taunting her...is a beautiful cream and lilac coat. It’s long, and on her petite height, it would practically reach the ground. Long, swooping sleeves...a hood...and a zipper.
...oh no...she wants it…
Sasuke, staring off almost dazedly as they wait, startles back to the present as Hinata bustles by him. Watching her go, he sees as she tugs it out from the rack a bit to get a better view. A sly smile grows on his face, sauntering over. “...find something else…?”
Her lips purse in a pout. “...I already said I would...that I would only get one thing…”
“...and?”
“...and...it’s the middle of Summer. I don’t need a coat.”
“Winter will be here before you know it.”
“I...I have a coat…”
“That’s the same one you’ve had for years.”
“It...it’s still…”
“Hinata…”
She gives a light whine.
“Look...it’s half off. No one wants to buy coats right now because it’s hot. But that just means you can tuck it away until it gets cold again, and then you’ll have a pretty new coat to wear this Winter.”
“But Sasuke-kun…”
“You’re not convincing me that you don’t want it.”
She mumbles something he can’t quite hear.
“What?”
“I...I want it…”
“Sorry, I didn’t catch that.”
Flushing pink in a mix of embarrassment and frustration, she repeats, “I want it!”
“Then get it.”
“But -?”
“If you give me one more excuse, I’m buying it for you.”
A gasp. “No!”
“Then get it yourself!” he rebukes, having to choke back a laugh. Gods she’s cute.
Giving him a stubborn look, she swipes the hanger off the rack and marches back to her place in line. Sasuke follows, a satisfied smirk on his face. Once everything is paid for and they mosey back into the street, she mumbles, “You’re a b-bad influence on me…”
“Anyone could have told you that. In fact, they have...and you didn’t listen.”
Huffing, she bumps him with a hip.
“Hinata...it’s all right to put yourself first sometimes. To just...indulge in something because you want it. Stop policing yourself so hard.”
“I...I’ve always been that way. Changing my habits isn’t exactly e-easy…”
“I know. That’s why I’m trying to help.”
She gives a short snort. “That was you helping?”
“Never said I was good at it.”
“...no, you did fine. I guess I just feel bad…”
“Why? It’s your money. You earned it. There’s nothing to feel bad about.”
“I...don’t want to…” She hesitates, going red in the face.
“...what?”
“To...r-rely on you too much. Y’know, if...if we…”
Sasuke blinks. “...that...is a bridge we’ll cross when we get to it. But even then, if we...do, I’d never be unhappy about supporting you.”
“B-but I can support myself!”
“Never said you couldn’t. What I mean is...if we do end up together that...much, then it’d be a partnership. If one of us has trouble, the other steps up and helps. And the same in reverse. Sure, I don’t want you blowing all your money, but it’s still your money. There’s a pretty wide grey area between being a penny pincher, and going overboard when spending on yourself.”
She considers that quietly, still pink. There’s another aspect, of course...but she can barely talk about being together, let alone saving up for k-
“Anyway...you’ve got your new shirt, and your new coat. And you’re happy with them, right?”
“...right.”
“Good. Then that’s settled. Now, I’m going to buy you lunch.”
“W-what?”
“You heard me!”
“Sasuke-kun!”
                                                         .oOo.
Oof, I had a looong day, so I'll be brief!      I've had something...kinda like this before? Where I elaborated a bit about my headcanons about Sasuke and Hinata's monetary habits. I see both being very cautious with their money when young, and having some trouble breaking out of that when they get older...but Hinata more so. Careful girl is careful.      Buuut...yeah! That's all I got for today, lol - had a long day on v little sleep, so I'm gonna go hit the hay! Thanks for reading~

Blind Date
I was going to make this idea a bunch of different one-shots with Sakura but this idea turned into a longer story than I thought! Thank you to @denisa-diana for giving me the pairing idea! It’s a lot longer than I thought
AN: This is a modern day AU sorry if they seem out of character, this is my first time writing Itachi and I think I still have a lot of work to improve on him! Don’t own Naruto
The next time that Ino convinces her to try something new, she’ll have to decline.  Sakura was currently pacing back and forth in her tiny apartment.  If she kept this pace up she would have to buy a new carpet because she was wearing the fabric so thin.  Most of the carpet was already worn thin from her weekly pacing sessions in front of her mirror, but this week’s dilemma was her worst yet.
Do I go or not?  I still have time to cancel, fake being sick might work! Sakura thought to herself, but all she could imagine was Ino screaming her head off at her for making her look bad after “all the time and planning” she had to do for Sakura.
If Ino was going to be that bad, then her two best guy friends would be ten times worse.  Ino was Sakura’s childhood best friend, but she met Naruto and Sasuke in freshman history class in college.  Ever since then they could not be separated.  With them always being around her dating was pretty much non-existent.  Being single for 8 years was finally starting to get to her.  When Ino first set this up Sakura debated whether to tell them or not.  She decided on that if the date went well then she would, and if it didn’t they would be none the wiser.  Keeping the boys out of her love life was just one of the reasons why she moved out of their shared apartment.  (Even if it was just down the hall.)
Sighing to herself, Sakura took one last look in the mirror.  It was a crisp October day so she wore a cream-colored sweater tucked into a fitted black skirt that came above her knee.  To add to her look Sakura wore polka-dotted tights to change up her usual style and short heeled boots. (In case she needed to run away at any point.)
Checking her watch she had no more time to delay the inventable, Sakra grabbed a light jacket and her purse and locked her apartment to go on her date.
The drive to the restaurant for lunch was simple enough, no traffic or parking issues to stress him out.  Things seemed to be looking up for him, but he couldn’t lie and say he did not feel a bit apprehensive about a blind date that his cousin set up for him.  Sure he had been single for a while, but he needed to focus on work after his major break up.  The company needed him to buckle down, plus it didn’t help that his cousin was made his assistant as per his mother’s request.  He seemed to be the only member of the company who did not want to mix family and business.
Getting caught up in his own thoughts, the young man did not notice a strong gust of October wind barreling down the street towards him.  One second his vision is clear, the next dust and debris from the leaves around him smacked him in the face.  Being the calm and collected type of person, he simply brushed the leaves out of his face.  It only took him two steps to realize that the leaves had knocked both of his contacts out of his eyes.  This would be a problem.
The young man started to search for his spare pair of glasses but found that he did not have them on his person.  Barely being able to see his phone that was centimeters away from his face he saw that he had no time to go back to his car to get them.  For an Uchina was never late, even if he was blind.
Sakura hurried across the busy street caught up in her own thoughts again.  Would Ino really set me up on a crappy blind date?  What if it was the guy in her accounting department?  The one with the crazy eyebrows?!
The guy was plenty nice enough but just too intense for Sakura’s taste.  She had stopped by Ino’s job just to say hello one day and got caught up in a conversation with this man, Lee if she remembered right.  Sakura could barely focus on what he was saying because all she could hear was Ino’s muffled snickers while she was standing behind Lee while he talked to Sakura.  From then on Sakura would call Ino from outside the building if she wanted to see her.
Ino wouldn’t be that cruel, would she?
The young Uchiha was pleased to find that he had arrived first to the restaurant first.  As the host brought him to a table in the back that was more secluded and quiet.  He was thankful for this because he would be solely relying on his hearing for the entire date.  The Uchiha just hoped that the woman his cousin found had a pleasant voice.  He was filled with dread thinking about how obnoxious two of his coworkers could be, his cousin and a blonde woman in advertising, hoping that his date would be nothing like them, but he wouldn’t put it past Shisui to torment him like that.  The young man perked up when he sensed the host and who he assumed to be his date arrive at the table.  He stood with grace as his parents taught him, and put on a pleasant smile that he used in his business meetings.  Even though he could only see blobs he did not expect to see pink.
He could only gather that this woman had pink hair to about her shoulders.  Squinting slightly to clear his vision a little more, he found that the woman was on the shorter side, only barely reaching his shoulders if they stood side by side.  Where in the world did his cousin find someone like her?
Extending his hand because his mother would surely be angry with him if he was anything less than a gentleman, he introduced himself simply to the woman in front of him. (Hoping that he was guessing the correct range to properly shake her hand.)
“Itachi.”
“Sakura.”
At that moment the two people standing there had the same exact thought, Why does that name sound so familiar?
Sakura could barely get her name out of her own mouth when it finally clicked that this gorgeous man was her date.  Shaking the deja vu out of her mind she was left with the feeling of her heart in her throat.  Sakura had never met a man before who was so attractive.  His eyes were dark and had long black hair tied in a low pony-tail.  Even though this man Itachi could have been stuck up Sakura never felt that he had an elitist attitude, he was very calm and sat back down much more gracefully than she ever could manage.
Curiosity was starting to win over her nerves.  How would Ino ever let this man slip past her fingers, and especially letting Sakura go on a date with him? Before she could form a proper question, Itachi beat her to it.
“Before we start the typical questions, I would just like to know who do you know that brought us together?” At the sound of his deep and smooth voice, Sakura felt her heart start to clench.  Even his voice is perfect?
“Well my best friend since we were young is named Ino, I’m not sure if you know her or not.  She mentioned that she was working with someone else on this,” Sakura replied with a slight blush to her face, but it seemed to go unnoticed by Itachi.
“Oh, I am quite familiar with Ino,” Itachi said with a slight twitch to his lip, “She is in my advertising department in the company I work for.”  If this woman found out exactly who he was this date might be over before it even started.
“You work for the Uchiha company?  My two best friends from college work there as well!  If it weren’t for Sasuke’s father the two of them would be in the mailroom, even if they had college degrees,” Sakura snickered to herself at the thought, “You seem pretty high up in the company being Ino’s boss, do you know Sasuke and Naruto?”
For the first time the first time in a long time, Itachi showed the look of shock on his face in front of a complete stranger.
When Itachi heard his little brother’s name and his brother’s childhood best friend’s names leave this woman’s lips he instantly knew who he was on a date with, and the two boys would not be happy with him.
Pink hair should have been a dead giveaway to who Sakura was.  How could he not remember a name like that?  How many people in the city had pink hair like hers?
This was the girl that Sasuke and Naruto could not shut up about all throughout their college years and on, but Itachi was so busy with the company that he never had the chance to meet her. Sasuke never bothered to bring her home in fear that their mother would try to play matchmaker.  He heard many stories about her wild temper and inhuman strength, but also her devotion to her family and friends no matter the cost to her well being.  Sasuke and Naruto could do a lot worse to have Sakura as a friend and she even seemed like a good influence on them.
“Itachi are you alright?”
The sound of her voice brought him back.  Controlling his emotions and his spinning mind, Itachi attempted to remember the question that Sakura had asked him.
“Actually Sasuke is my younger brother and Naruto has been around since Sasuke was young,” Itachi finally said with a small smile at the mention of his brother.  His smile only grew as he realized that Sakura finally made the connection.  He wished that he could be able to see her face remembering that Naruto said she was very expressive.
Sensing that she needed a moment to collect her thoughts as well, Itachi pretended to read the menu in front of him, he just hoped that the restaurant was serving soup so that Sakura wouldn’t catch on to him not being able to see all that well.  After “reading” the menu he could feel Sakura’s eyes on him.
“Do you want to get out of here?  I’m not really seeing anything that I like here,” she asked with a playful tone in her voice.  Not sure of where she was going with this Itachi nodded and stood up and waited to follow Sakura out of the restaurant.
After making up some excuse the two were standing on the sidewalk.  Itachi was attempting to not feel completely blind, but Sakura was still intently looking at him.  Not sure of what to do or say he just shifted his weight back and forth.
“Tell me something Itachi.  Why aren’t you wearing your glasses?” Sakura finally asked with that playful tone again.  Feeling a bit embarrassed about the whole situation he could feel the heat starting to creep up the back of his neck.  Before he could give her a lame excuse Sakura looped her arm around his.
“Don’t worry I’m a doctor, not much can get past me.  You haven’t made eye contact with me at all yet and I know your mother taught you better than that if I learned anything about your family from Sasuke,” Sakura teased, “If you point to the direction of your car we can get your glasses.”
As they started walking Itachi could not believe how much she knew already about his habits, it was a bit alarming if he really thought about it.
“You and Sasuke are so much alike I can’t believe it.  He does this a lot with his own glasses, but you’re much calmer than Sasuke is.  Probably just a maturity thing, but I doubt he could ever be mature with Naruto around.”
Itachi couldn’t help himself, he smiled.  When was the last time someone outside of his family did that?
Sakura could not believe how relaxed she was around Itachi.  She just kept talking and he just listened.  They continued on their way to his car making small talk about his family with each step the tension was leaving Itachi’s form and that made Sakura happy.  Soon he even started to open up a bit more to her.  His voice was like velvet and she hoped that he would never stop talking.
Finally reaching his car, Itachi started looking for his glasses leaving Sakura to her thoughts.
She remembered all the times that Sasuke would talk about Itachi.  Either he seemed jealous of the attention that Itachi got from their family, but then he would also admire him and praise him for being a good brother to him.  Even Naruto would chime in on how cool he was.  But they both agreed that for the last 3 years he had devoted himself to working himself to death and never did anything fun.  Something must have happened to make him change his behavior so much, but Sakura would never ask it wasn’t her place.
When Itachi turned to her with his glasses on she blushed a bit and smiled widely at him.  She always had a thing for guys in glasses.  What she didn’t notice was the way that Itachi was looking at her.
For the first time in a long time, Itachi was feeling a slew of emotions.  Sasuke did not mention how beautiful his friend was.  Pink hair did seem odd on a doctor, but for Sakura, it just made so much sense.  He could finally see that she put some curls in her hair and had a brilliant smile that made his stomach flip over and over again.  But what really took his breath away was when she finally opened her eyes.  Green eyes peered brightly at him.  They were inquisitive, playful, and intelligent.
No one had made Itachi act so out of the ordinary.  He was just thankful that this was their first time meeting and that no one else was around to call him out for acting differently.  He felt all out of sorts already and he was pretty sure Sakura hadn’t shown her true self to him yet.
Without much thought, Itachi blurted out, “Would you like to get some dango with me?”
“I’d love to!  It’s my favorite!” Sakura excitedly said and jumped right into his car as he held open the door for her.  So maybe this dating stuff wasn’t as hard as he thought.
The couple sat in the dango shop talking for hours.  They both learned how much in common they had with each other.  Itachi and Sakura were both extremely intelligent and Sakura never realized how nice it was to have a conversation with a man and not have his eyes glaze over in boredom because he doesn’t understand what she’s talking about.  Even though Itachi was a business major, he had a strong understanding of the medical field and they both enjoyed similar books and swapped different books to read.
The two sat quietly for a while caught up in their own thoughts.  When was the last time Sakura took a break like this?  Sure she hung out with her friends but it was only to go to an apartment and she always brought along new reading material her mentor gave to her.  This was the first afternoon that Sakura was blowing off and it felt great!  It was most likely due to her company but she could get used to being around Itachi more.  Maybe Ino was right, maybe Sakura should live a little.  This thought made her chuckle.
“What’s so funny?” Itachi asked with a slight smile on his face.  Sakura noticed that the other Uchiha also did not smile so much, but Itachi’s relaxing presence was much easier to deal with than Sasuke’s typical blank stares.
“I was just thinking about how I have to tell Ino that she’s right.  She’s never going to let me live this down,” she chuckled again.  “I normally only hang out with her or Naruto and Sasuke so a blind date, and any date really, is totally out of my comfort zone.  But I’m really glad that we got to finally meet!”
Itachi was having similar thoughts thinking that he would have to thank Shisui. Normally all his cousin did was keep Itachi from doing his work, but deep down he knew his cousin was just trying to keep his spirits up all these years after his break up.  Itachi never realized that he was pushing people away until it was too late.  Being busy with work always seemed better than talking about his problems.
The only regret he really had was not checking up on Sasuke more. His younger brother was so important to him, but he never wanted him to see him hurt over something so trivial as a relationship so he kept his distance and never could figure out how to get back to normal.  Everyone close to him always looked at him with pitying looks after the breakup that he couldn’t stand it anymore, hence him burying himself behind paperwork and moving up in his father’s company.  Itachi could guarantee that his father made his cousin his assistant to keep an eye on him, but he was secretly glad for the company that his cousin gave him.
Turning his attention back to Sakura, Itachi had a hard time believing that she had a hard time dating.  With her unique looks and warm personality, any guy would be after her.  Itachi would just be thankful that he met her now and not while she was with someone else.
“Jeez is it already dark out?  How long have we been sitting here?” Sakura asked with a laugh.  Itachi looked up and noticed that the sun had started to set in warm colors of orange and pink.  They really must have been sitting there for hours talking and both seemed to not notice the time slipping by.
“If you would like, I can drive you home,” Itachi said as he rose to his feet.  Sakura happily agreed.  The short drive to her apartment was filled with conversation about movies and music.  Before they even realized it they were both standing in front of Sakura's apartment door, not even noticing that they climbed to the third floor while they were talking.  They were so involved in their conversation they didn’t notice the two pairs of eyes that were watching them from down the hall...
“Itachi I had a really great time with you today,” Sakura started with a small blush creeping up on her face.  This was the end of the date, did that mean they would kiss?  She would be lying if she said she wasn’t imagining what it would be like to kiss Itachi the whole ride back to her apartment.  He was so much taller than her she would have to stand on her toes just to kiss him properly.
Itachi’s mind was in a similar train of thought.  It was only the first date, would a kiss be too much?  Maybe on the second one…  Wait he has to ask her on a second date first.
“I did too Sakura,” Itachi said showing her a hint of the first real smile he’s given the whole time they were together.  “I would really like to see you again.”
Sakura’s blush grew a deeper shade of pink at the thought of a second date with him.  “Yes, I would love to!  Here let’s exchange numbers.” After that was done they both stood quietly looking at each other not sure of what was going to happen next.
Itachi decided that the next date he would kiss her, the whole time they were together they were just talking not even flirting really.  Most of the other girls that Itachi had talked to always came on way too strong, but with Sakura it was different.  Since she was already friend’s with Sasuke his last name really didn’t have any effect on her.  She was successful on her own and never tried to get him to pay for anything, even though he wouldn’t let her pay today.
He took a step closer to her and the pink blush on her face turned to a deep red.  Itachi didn’t think she could become any prettier but the look on her face was too much for him.  He gave Sakura the trademark smirk that he was told drove women crazy and the way that she looked at him he could tell that it worked. Itachi leaned into to see whether Sakura would let him kiss her or not, but she didn’t push him away so he settled to kiss her on the corner of her lips.  When he straightened out Itachi was still smirking when he saw the look of annoyance in her eyes. That must be the real Sakura peaking out and he was surprised to find that he couldn’t wait to get to know the real her.
“I’ll call you tomorrow then,” Itachi said with the slightest look of playfulness in his eyes.  But before Sakura could say anything back there was a loud crash at the end of the hall.
What they saw spill out of the door was a familiar mess of blond and black hair. Out of the pile came the blond sprinting down the hallway towards the couple. The blond grabbed Sakura and pushed himself in the small space between her and Itachi.
“Stay away from Sakura!!!!” The deafening scream could be heard all the way down the street.
“Naruto can you please let go of me,” was all Sakura could squeak out with Naruto practically squishing her face into his chest to “protect her”.
“Sakura who the hell is this guy?” came the other voice farther down the hall. This was the most familiar voice to Itachi.  He had no idea how his little brother would react to seeing him with one of his best friends.
Itachi slowly turned around and tried to give Sasuke the smile that he always used to give him while they were growing up.
“Hello brother,” was the only thing Itachi could manage, but the look on Sasuke’s face told him everything he needed to know, his little brother was not happy.  What a way to end his blind date, his date in the arms of another man with his little brother giving him the family glare.  Itachi just hoped that Sakura would still want to see him again...

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice?
‘I’m on a mission to find the best tasting pumpkin spice latte, want to join me?’
Sakura was rounding the corner of the student union when she heard the yelling.
“I’m on a mission to find the best tasting pumpkin spice latte!” a familiar looking upperclassmen was shouting from atop the chair dragged into the middle of the student union’s porch as others shuffled by as quickly as they could, averting their eyes. “Who wants to join me?”
Next to her, Sasuke hunched down even further in his sweatshirt, as if he was trying to disappear, tugging his hood up to cover his hair. “Why is it always me?” he groaned.
Snagging his sleeve before he could teleport away the way he always did when faced with uncomfortable situations, Sakura tugged him forward. “Come on grump,” she teased, heading for the doors of the student union. “You’ll be better once you’ve got some food in you.”
They had almost made it to the door when their luck ran out.
“Sasu-cakes!” Shisui crowed, abandoning his previous post in the center of the porch in favor of an easy victim. “I have a task for you!”
“No. No way, I have class.” Sasuke’s eyes were slightly wild, and his nervous twitch was back. Sakura had thought he had been trained out of it, but apparently one encounter with his cousin was enough to bring it back. “Find some other poor soul to be your victim.”
“But my little duckling,” Shisui wailed, draping himself all over his younger cousin, who froze immediately. “I need a buddy, and Itachi’s in class.”
“No.”
Before Shisui could throw a tantrum worthy of a three year old (Sakura knew he’d do it, she’d seen it before), Sakura intervened. “I’m free for the afternoon, so I’ll go with you,” she offered, conveniently leaving out the midterm she had the next day that she probably should be studying for. “Where do we start?”
“Here!” Shisui perked up immediately, abandoning Sasuke in favor of looping his arm through hers. “We’re starting with the Pit, and working our way around campus to finally finish up back here at Starbucks.”
Sasuke’s teeth grinding was almost audible as the trio made their way into the building.
He was still grinding his teeth as Shisui lounged in the chair next to him, rhapsodizing about the pumpkin spiced coffee clutched in his hand. Honestly, the elder Uchiha could put wine connoisseurs to shame, the way he talked about depth of flavor and notes...Sakura was almost impressed.
She’d be more impressed if she wasn’t constantly feeding Sasuke fresh chopsticks because he kept breaking them in irritation. Although, considering Shisui had been provoking him throughout the ten minutes they’d been seated, she was amazed those chopsticks hadn’t been used to stab someone.
Under the cover of the table, Sakura slid her phone out of her pocket and sent off a quick text.
[dr haruno] send sos 2 hot topic
[dr haruno] b4 he murders hamlet
It only took a quick second for it to vibrate in her hand, and she grinned as she saw the response.

[darwin award] jailbreak 2 hard 2 arrange 2day
Half a second later, Sasuke’s phone, in clear display on the table, vibrated, and he lunged for it like a dying man to a life preserver.
“The idiot’s panicking over his calc exam,” he announced, already slamming the lid on his half-eaten fake chinese food and picking up his backpack. “I need to go rescue him before he jumps into the river.”
It wasn’t the best excuse either of them had ever come up with, but it worked. Before Shisui could really protest, Sakura was gathering her own garbage and motioning to Shisui. “Let’s head for the cafe in the library,” she suggested as Sasuke made his rapid exit. “I think they’ve got coffee and lattes, and I’ve been meaning to try their pumpkin chocolate chip bread.”
Obediently, Shisui allowed himself to be led away. “You made notes about what I was saying though, right?”
“Of course. What type of experiment would this be if it wasn’t properly recorded?”
The tables in the tiny cafe in the main library were crammed full of students panicking over midterms, so Shisui’s analysis of the coffee and latte that he had collected was witnessed by the crowd of desperate students filling the all-hours study space across from it.
On his thirteenth minute of lecturing, Sakura cast a wary glance at the students occupying the table across from them, several of whom looked suspiciously wired and as if they hadn’t left that table for three days, given the clutter, general unwashed appearance, and overall demeanor of a cornered wild animal. Given that they seemed about ready to let loose a hail of assorted school supplies if Shisui didn’t shut up, she escorted him quickly to the next location. Her biology professor was a hard-ass who would require her death certificate to allow her to retake the exam, and unfortunately, whatever the crazed students might do, it was improbable that they would manage homicide.
The cafe in the engineering building was much more secluded; most of the students cloistered in the adjacent computer labs with headphones, easily-portable snacks, and their own coffee makers in the room with them. Shisui was able to wax poetic about his latte in peace, as Sakura munched through her second slice of pumpkin-chocolate chip bread and made notes on Shisui’s oration while simultaneously running through her flashcards.
That is, until Shisui realized that he did not have her full attention and draped himself across her lap.
Startling in surprise, Sakura dropped her flashcards on his face, which was suddenly in her lap. The rest of him was sprawled out across the rest of the battered couch they had been sharing, and his latte had been set on the table in front of them. He was lucky that her legs, with her feet also on the table, had been pinned, so her reflexive twitch at finding him well inside her personal space hadn’t sent the drink flying.
“Sa-ku-ra,” he said, voice stretching out in a sing-song across the syllables of her name. “Are you paying attention to me?”
“You just said that this had less pumpkin and more cinnamon than the one at the library, but much less nutmeg than the one in the Pit, which is good because that one tasted like someone had dropped a bucket full of nutmeg in the coffee,” she recited dutifully, retrieving her flashcards. “See, I was listening.”
“But you were looking at something else,” Shisui wiggled as he whined, shifting his head to a more comfortable position on her thighs and relieving some of the pressure from where his shoulders had previously been. “I thought you liked spending time with me?”
The pout that followed should have been illegal for a fully grown twenty-something.
“Shisui,” Sakura began, trying to muster her resistance. “I do have an exam tomorrow, and as you can see, I am capable of multitasking.”
“But Sa-ku-ra,” he whined, commandeering her hand and placing it on his head. Obligingly, she ran her fingers through his hair. “I thought you wanted to spend time with me…”
Just then his phone beeped, and Sakura caught a glimpse of the screen as he pulled it out of his pocket.
[weasel] How’s your grand plan going? Has she hit you with anything yet?
Raising her eyebrow, Sakura glanced down at the Uchiha in her lap, who she was gratified to see looked somewhat sheepish.
“Tell him about the flashcards,” she recommended dryly, lifting his upper body just enough so that she could slip out from underneath him. “See if that gets you any sympathy. Ready to finish up at Starbucks?”
She should have expected that Starbucks would be the second most-crowded place on campus, given the proximity to midterms, but it at least allowed her to claim a comfortable armchair and keep an eye on the adjacent one while making Shisui wait in the line from hell. Spotting him sandwiched between a pair of sorority girls, who were busy making eyes at him and the frat boys in front of him, she delighted in the anguished look on his face.
Usually, he was probably one of the smoothest talkers on campus, able to charm, flatter, and cajole his way through any situation.
Stuck listening to trivial bullshit like the snippets she could hear, he seemed to be going slowly insane.
Serves him right, she thought with a smirk, reaching for her phone. Snapping a discreet shot of Shisui, she dropped it in the group chat she shared with her two best friends.
[dr haruno] <picture>
It only took a minute for Naruto to send back the picture, now covered in enough pastel hearts that it wouldn’t look out of place in a middle school girl’s locker. Sasuke’s response was a significantly subtler thumbs up.
[Hot Topic] y r u still there
[Hot Topic] u can run away
[Hot Topic] nobody would blame u
Before she could respond back, Naruto was back.
[darwin award] y u  make out w/hamlet
Glowering, Sakura punched out her response, unaware that the poor grad student who usually got stuck teaching her biology class was slowly backing away from the empty seat next to her, coffee clutched in his shaking hand.
[dr haruno] wtf
[dr haruno] i was not!!!
[dr haruno] who tf said i was????
Another chat notification popped up. Normally she had the notifications for the group chat from her dorm muted, but they had been organizing a movie night for yesterday so she had unmuted them. Opening the chat to mute it, she clenched her phone so hard she was certain the case was going to leave imprints on her skin.
[ramen king] <picture>
[ramen king] see
[ramen king] pictures don’t lie
[ramen king] u were totally making out w/hamlet
The picture was a grainy shot from somewhere behind the couch she had occupied at the coffee shop in the engineering building, taken probably as Shisui was busy flopping onto her lap. From the angle and the bad camera quality, it did sort of look as if there was something going on between them.
Before she could respond back to Naruto in either chat, the dorm chat exploded.
[k9 king] whoa sakura
[k9 king] u move fast
[k9 king] <picture>
This time it was another picture, taken moments later and from a different angle, showing Shisui’s head in her lap, turned towards her.
[bombshell] y didn’t u tell me?
[bombshell] he’s hot
[bombshell] + y r u letting him put his head in ur lap like that
Notifications for her private chat with Ino started going off as well, but Sakura was too distracted trying to put out the fire in the group chat to deal with her roommate.
[YOUTH!!!] y not me????
[YOUTH!!!] i was going 2 bring u flowers
[Hyuuga Neji] Shut up Lee.
[Hyuuga Neji] She’s been trying to politely refuse since you met.
[cinnamon roll] Neji! Be nice!

[bombshell] we could double?
[mothman] You should shut up now Kiba. You might need to leave the country.
[firecracker] back off bitch, sasuke’s spoken for
Movement next to her drew her attention away from the shitstorm that Naruto had caused by not paying attention to which chat was open, and Sakura scowled as she saw the spare seat she had been saving be taken by a pair of frankly terrifying graduate students, one of who seemed to be currently sporting stitches. Deciding that discretion was the better part of valor in that case, she turned to look for another pair of empty seats.
“Hey, I brought your lemon loaf and tea,” Shisui announced as she was half-standing, eyeing a pair of chairs that were about to open. “Thanks for saving the seats.”
Before she knew it, he had set their drinks and food down, slid into the armchair she was attempting to vacate, and tugged her back onto his lap. Sakura squeaked in surprise, ashamed of the sound she made, and fell back into his chest as she lost her balance.
“Missed me that much?” Shisui teased gently, and popped a chunk of lemon loaf in her mouth when she opened it to respond. He was chewing on his own bite, she realized, and frowned at him around the lemon loaf.
“Taxes,” he replied as he swallowed. “Only fair. Now, onto the final test.”
Swallowing, Sakura grimaced as her phone blew up, vibrating so hard it fell off the arm of the chair and into the small space between them. Reaching for her tea, she took a sip, and then grabbed her phone, afraid of what she was going to find.
Shisui flinched as it vibrated again, spluttering on his coffee, but she ignored him as she scrolled past the argument over Sasuke that Ino was having with Naruto’s cousin, Lee’s wailing, Neji’s caustic put downs, Hinata’s pleas for peace...and then she found another picture.

Her head shot up as she saw the blurry shot of her reaching for her phone, the actual action hidden by their bodies, only the suggestive trajectory of her hand remaining, enough to damn her in the chat.
[bombshell] getting frisky!
It only got worse after that, and Sakura closed her eyes and resolved to murder all of them at the earliest possible convenience.
“This one’s the winner,” Shisui declared, nodding to his latte. “Nothing can compete with the original.”
Caught completely off guard, Sakura stared at him wide-eyed until he indicated the drink. “Remember? The thing I’ve been dragging you around all afternoon for?”
His quest. “Right,” she said weakly, ignoring her phone as if vibrated furiously. “I’m glad you’ve figured it out.”
“Isn’t it grand?” Shisui declared, shoving another piece of lemon loaf into her mouth. “I had a lot of fun.”
“Sure,” Sakura scanned the crowded area, looking for Suigetsu. She may not be able to do anything about the pictures he’d already posted, but she could make sure he never would post again. “It was.”
She surprised herself by actually meaning it. Shisui had been...fun to be around. Not as crazy as she had remembered him being when they were all in high school, although Sasuke would probably disagree. They had spent a fun afternoon together, and the treats he bought her as bribes weren’t unwelcome either.
A phone beeped again, and he shot her an apologetic look as he jostled her getting it out of his pocket. There was a moment of silence, and then he whistled.
“Why did my cousin congratulate me on my first public groping?” he asked, and Sakura wanted to throw every single phone around them into the river.
“My hallmates are idiots,” she ground out from between gritted teeth. “And they’re all going to go home for winter break in matchboxes.”
“I think the kid over there with the white hair is spying on us,” Shisui said brightly, giving a wave. Sakura whipped about and made sure that the grin she shot Suigetsu was savage. The little shit was going to find out the hard way not to cross her.
“I’ll make sure he learns his lesson.”
“You really didn’t have to do this.”
“Of course I did,” Shisui protested, holding the door for her. “You kept me from being murdered by angry college students on three separate occasions. And don’t think I didn’t notice you letting Sasu-cakes escape by sacrificing yourself.”
“That’s what the pumpkin chocolate chip bread was for,” she pointed out, climbing the stairs to the fourth floor (what type of building has four floors, with wheelchair accessible bathrooms on the fourth floor, but no elevators? Really?) “And all of the other things I made you buy me.”
“Pfft,” the Uchiha flapped his hand at her. “Those were bribes to make you accurately record my notes on the lattes. Anyway, what kind of gentleman would I have been if I hadn’t seen you safely to your door?”
“The only dangerous thing in this dorm right now,” Sakura raised her voice so that anyone behind the closed doors would be sure to hear, “is me.”
Reaching her door at the end of the hall, she turned, key in the door, to look at Shisui. To her surprise, he was much closer than she expected, almost on top of her, a hungry look in his eyes.
“That was...far too attractive,” he mumbled, eyes fixed on her lips. “If you don’t want me to kiss you, speak now.”
Giving her a moment, he pressed forward, lips brushing hers. First gently, but then more insistently, caressing and coaxing her into willing participation. She had always known he was attractive, but had never figured he’d be interested in her, when he had his pick of the myriad of girls that surrounded him. After the disastrous crush on Sasuke that had thankfully subsided into unbreakable friendship, she had decided Uchiha’s were too much trouble to date, and instead worked on establishing an amicable working relationship with Shisui and Itachi, to make her life less boring when Naruto and Sasuke inevitably abandoned her during their squabbles.
Sakura found herself twining her hands in Shisui’s hair, the only Uchiha she knew that sported curls instead of the obnoxiously straight hair his cousins managed. As she tugged lightly on it, drawing him closer, he complied pressing her into the door as his hands came to rest on her hips.
In her pocket, her phone started vibrating again, but she was too busy kissing Shisui to care.

Chapter 10
“Why are you reading his file?” Shisui raised an eyebrow seeing Itachi going through the documents of the employers.  “You know you could just talk to him.”
“This is easier.” Itachi said turning the page as he  frowned slightly.
“I thought dad was exaggeration, but Sasuke is indeed a lot of times ill.”
“Yes, he has something chronicle. I am not sure what it is.” Shisui said.
“Why is it not mentioned in his files?” Itachi muttered.
“His blood type is AB...Like mine.”
“Really Itachi, if you wanna see if you have things in common with you. You.Got.To.Ask.Him.Out.”
“You know what else is strange. His chakra nature is lightning. Every Uchiha’s first nature is fire.”
“Not true, your own mother has lighting as her nature.”
“Exactly, she has been the only exception.I am not a biologist, but last time I checked things such a eye colour, hair colour and chakra nature are something genetic, in the DNA and all. Now lightning as somebody first nature  is recessive gene  while fire is dominant.”
“Owh please Itachi stop this nonsense. What are you trying to proof?”
“I think Uchiha Shin is hiding something, and I think it involved Sasuke. He got very offended when  asked if Sasuke was adopted, and that he didn’t look like either of them, and now this.”
“You think Uchiha Shin adopted Sasuke and keeps it a secret?”
“No, there would have been records of a child missing or getting anonymously adopted. There are none.”
“Dear God, Itachi you are searching way to deep.”  Shisui grabbed the file back,
“Stop hiding, ask him out. Or just talk to him so you can  put this behind you.” Shisui  put the file under his arm as he turned his head to the door, revealing team Haru from their mission.
“We have patrols in half an hour. Take your rest well,” Haru said as he dismissed his team.
“Wanna grab some ramen?” One of the teammates said, causing the other to nod eagerly.  Sasuke shook his head.
“I see you guys in half an hour.” Sasuke said before sitting down on the three steps that guided further in the building.  He exhaled deeply, pushing his bangs out of his face.
“He is alone, the building is almost empty. This is your best shot.” Shisui said as he walked towards his office to put the file back. “Go for it, your are Itachi of the Sharingan for a reason.” Shisui gave a light punch in Itachi’s shoulder as he walked off. Itachi inhaled deeply before getting up. He walked towards Sasuke.
“Hey…” Itachi said, giving an awkward wave. Sasuke looked up. His skin was way paler than the other day. He had this red tint around his eyes as if he was exhausted.
“Hey.” His voice sounded even weaker.
“You look extremely bad today.”
Sasuke frowned by Itachi’s words.
“You didn’t have to say it outloud.” Sasuke leaned his head on his hands.
“Are you alright?” Itachi knelt down as he wanted to examine Sasuke’s face, but Sasuke slapped Itachi’s hand away.
“Lay off, will ya.” Sasuke said annoyed.
“You didn’t answer me.”
“I am fine. I am.” Sasuke looked up to meet Itachi’s eyes.  “What do you want?” Sasuke added.
“I just...I just..” Itachi expression turned worried. “Your nose is bleeding.”
Sasuke looked surprised and moved his finger below his nose, seeing the blood on his hand. He looked back at Itachi for less than a second before he fainted.
His body fell forwards, right into Itachi’s who caught him and carefully placed him on the ground.
“I need a medic!” Itachi shouted as he looked down at Sasuke. He couldn’t barlay sense any chakra in his body.
Oxoxox
Sasuke slowly opened his eyes as he stared at the white ceiling before slowly turning his head to the side seeing an empty chair.
“You are at the hospital.”
Sasuke slowly turned his head to the other side, seeing Itachi standing there.
“You look terrible..” Sasuke voice was hoarse. He chuckled as he forced himself into a sitting position. “What happened?” Sasuke asked.
“You fainted.”
“Why?” Sasuke asked confused.
“You looked sick, it turns out your chakra level were very low..”
“Was it? Right...That is my excuse for looking bad. What is yours?” Sasuke asked.
“...I don’t have one.” Itachi said. He leaned slightly forwards as his hand stroked Sasuke’s cheek. “I am glad you are awake though.” Itachi revealed a hint of a smile. The younger Uchiha looked at Itachi’s lips before looking at his eyes and back to his lips.  He leaned slightly, closing the gap between them.
That until…..
“Bless the Lord!” Sasuke’s dad rushed in the room, causing both Itachi and Sasuke to back away.  Shin wrapped his arms around Sasuke, pressing him close against his chest.
“I am terribly sorry. I am so, so, so sorry.” He kept saying as he stroked Sasuke’s hair and placed a kiss on it.
“Dad, you didn’t do anything to be sorry about. You know how my chakra levels tumble down. You can’t help giving me bad genes.” Sasuke tried to laugh it off, but his father seemed serious about it.
“I will leave now. Get well soon, Sasuke.” Itachi said.
“Wait,Itachi. I have to thank you. I am so grateful for what you have done.”
“It is nothing,” Itachi said feeling awkward.
“Wait what?” Sasuke turned his head to Itachi.
“Nothing.I ...Caught you when you fell, but I was already in front of you.” Itachi gave a small nod before walking out of the room.
“Dad, what did he do?” Sasuke turned his head to Shin.
“I don’t understand why he is being so humble. He sacrificed half his chakra trying to transfuse some into you.”
“What...I thought my body couldn’t receive any chakra from others. Only give.”
“It seems that Uchiha Itachi is yet another exception to a rule.Though most of it went lost, but even the little bit your body did accept was enough to get you stable again.”
Sasuke stared at the door before turning his head around to look at his father.
“And the first thing I told him was that he looked terrible…” Sasuke muttered.
“I am sure he isn’t bothered. Not to forget he is the son of the clan leader and responsible for the clan. He was doing his job.”
Sasuke turned his gaze to the ground.
“You should be resting.”  Shin gave Sasuke a kiss on his hair before standing up.
Oxoxoxo
“It was weird, Shisui.”
“A father was sad because his son health is bad. Sound pretty normal to me,” Shisui said.
“No, this was difference. Why would he apologize? He said it like he did something that probably caused Sasuke to faint.”
“What could he do?  That man doesn’t even know how to use a substitute jutsu. You think he extracted half of Sasuke’s chakra or something?”  Shisui sat back, his back leaning against the wall. Somebody was knocking on the door. Itachi looked at Shisui.
“Dude, this is your house. Open your own Goddamn door.”
“You practically live here.”
“Wrong, you practically live with me.Open the door.” Shisui signed to the door. Itachi shook his head as he walked towards the door.
“I am sorry for disturbing you, Itachi-san. I heard Shisui was here?”
“He is.” Itachi answered to the shinobi in front of him whom’s name slipped his mind.
“Is there a chance I can see him? I really need to go over these documents with him. It would only take five minutes.”
Itachi nodded as he allowed the young man in.
“Misaki, what’s up.” Shisui sat straight as the young man sat down.
“I am sorry for intruding . I came across something rather odd.” He put the document on the table. Shisui looked through it.
“That is indeed weird. How did they get this information?” Shisui frowned.
“What?” Itachi looked over Shisui’s shoulder.
“The rogue ninja, you and Sasuke were after-”
Itachi couldn’t help but notice the young man’s facial expression suddenly changed to a slightly disgusted one.
“It turns out he has information about our shinobis.Misaki, do you have specific names?”
“I took them with me.” He grabbed more documents.
“Itachi, you are in here too.Blood type, chakra nature, every single medical record.”
“My dad too...My mother even.” Itachi said, looking through the other papers.
“Shin too…Sasuke’s mother...And...Himself.” Itachi frowned.
“This is very big,Misaki it is good you came to us immediately.”
“About that...I actually have a doubtful feeling about Sasuke. I have been keeping a close eye on him lately and I see some sort of connection. I think he might be spying for...Orochimaru.” Misaki seemed serious. Itachi frowned.
“Tell us about this connection.”  Itachi said.
“Every time we get a rapport of Orochimaru getting spotted somewhere, Sasuke isn’t far from that spot either. I have always wondered how he ever could be strong enough to make jonin. His parents aren’t shinobis, they haven’t taught him anything, but he still graduated academy as number 1 in his class. His fighting style is not similar to any shinobi in this village. I believe he is getting taught by Orochimaru and to repay him. Sasuke spies for him. It makes perfect sense.”
“I don’t think that is enough proof. There no motive to join with Orochimaru,” Itachi said.
“Itachi-san. I have known Sasuke for a long time. He hates the clan, he hates main branch and all of us Sharingan users. He envies us. He wants the eye power, and only Orochimaru is able find a way from him to have them.”
“That is your theory. We will keep this mind and look into it.” Shisui looked a bit doubtful.
“You two don’t believe me. What if I told you. Sasuke can summon the same snakes as Orochimaru. The legendary snake sanin’s snake, that is not something a side branch can do on his own.”
“Sasuke summons hawks. I am sure because he lends me one every time there is a storm coming.”
“It possible to summon two animals. But it is not common.”  Itachi said.
“Well, if that is to be true. It would be pretty good evidence.”
“I know it is true. I did the chuunin exam the same time he did. I saw him summon the snake in the forest. I am not lying.” Misaki said as he looked at Itachi. It didn’t seem like he was lying.
Oxoxox
“Look at you, you are already doing so much better.” Sasuke’s mother smiled kindly as she walked next to her son.
“I am glad to leave the stupid hospital. That bed was killing my back.” Sasuke sighed, “I can’t believe Itachi sacrificed his precious chakra on me. I feel so unworthy of it.”
“Darling he saved you. He wouldn’t have done it if he thought you were unworthy.”
“You think?” Sasuke looked at his mother.
“Itachi is handsome, wouldn’t you just want to brag to his other fans about how he saved you.”
“I am not his fan…”  Sasuke said, but his mother didn’t miss the smile on his face.
“But he is handsome.” She said with a smile.
“Alright, he is handsome. But he is like...A celebrity. Everyone wants him, and I am not willing to compete with all the competition.Maybe I get lucky...But if I am not, I am not going to sulk about it.”
“Well you can’t expect to win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.”
“Ssssshhh….You got me there.”
Sasuke’s mother laughed.
“I am going to give these to him.” Sasuke said pointing at the box with dango, “Maybe that is why he is nice to me. He knows he gets dango from it.”
“If that how things are. You can tell him that he eats for free if he marries you,” she laughed as Sasuke shook his head. He knocked on the door and it took a while for somebody to finally open.
“If it isn’t duckbutt.”
“Misaki…” Sasuke’s voice was filled with  hate the moment the other Uchiha appeared in front of the door. “What are you doing here, this ain’t your house.”
“What are you doing here. It ain’t your clan.”
“I am an Uchiha-”
“Not without Sharingan.” He had this evil smirk on his face.
“I am here for Itachi.”
“Right...Of course you are,” Misaki said.
“What do you mean?” Sasuke frowned.
“Your little act. Fainting...How come nobody has thought of that?”
Sasuke opened his mouth to say something, but he turned his head to his mother and covered her ears with his hands before looking back at Misaki.
“Bitch, can you not see my moterfucking hideous face?”
“Owh...You always look hideous to me,” Misaki smiled.
“You little bitch. You know what? Fuck you,” Sasuke removed his hands from his mother’s ears.
“Come mom. Let’s go home.” Sasuke said as he glared at Misaki before walking away.
“Yeah, you should go. Outsiders don’t belong here.”
Sasuke stopped walking as he turned her head around.
“I am going to punch him.”
“Darling no. The doctor said not to get worked up. You will waste chakra.”
“Yes Sasuke, listen to your mother. Besides. How could I be afraid of a chronically ill person. You are just making me laugh.”
“Why don’t you go ahead...I will catch up to you.” Sasuke said. His mother nodded unsurely, but did as Sasuke said.
Sasuke glared at  Misaki as he clenched a fist.
“I don’t think you will keep laughing if I removed your eyeballs.” Sasuke hissed.
“Why are you taking so long. I just asked you to answer the door.” Shisui stuck his head out of the door.
“Sasuke…” He looked slightly worried seeing the hateful look Sasuke gave Misaki .
“Sasuke?” Itachi pushed Shisui slightly away to look outside. “Shouldn’t you be resting?”
“Obviously not, he just threatened to remove my eyeballs,”  Misaki said taking the role of the innocent one.
“Those are not the only balls I am going to remove.” Sasuke lowered his eyes at Misaki’s crotch,  “Owh...Guess somebody was ahead of me.”
“Still more of a man than a mixed blood.”
“I show you!” Sasuke hissed as he wanted hit the man, but his arm got pulled back.
“Be careful,” Itachi said  as he pulled Sasuke slightly back. Sasuke tripped and fell on one knee, he started coughing, covering his mouth with his hand. He looked at his hand, quickly clenching a fist as  he pretended to not see the blood, but on the side of his lips was an obvious trail of blood.
“Both of you should stop with these childish insults. There is no need to fight. Especially not a sick person.”  Shisui said, looking at Misaki.
“I might be sick, but I can still give that son of a bitch a terrible death.”
“There is no need to get worked up. It is especially not good for you,” Itachi said, “I will walk you home.”  Itachi unconsciously reached for Sasuke’s shoulder, but Sasuke smacked his hand away and got up.
“Fuck off,” Sasuke hissed.
“Don’t you dare speak to Itachi like that!” Misaki shouted.
“Can you speak up? It almost sounds like his dick is still in your mouth!” Sasuke hissed.
“Hey!” Itachi grabbed Sasuke’s wrist. The younger one tried to pull away, but  he was too weak. Itachi pulled the younger Uchiha towards him, causing Sasuke to almost bump against Itachi.
“There is no need to make an enemy out of me too,” Itachi said.
“I can’t believe you associate with fuckers like him. Just because he has the Sharingan and is the head of your fanclub doesn’t mean he is an innocent angel.”
“Sasuke…” Itachi didn’t get the changed to finish his sentence.
“Let go of me….Now!” Sasuke hissed and oddly enough Itachi did let go of Sasuke’s wrist.  “I dealt with enough for one  day.” Sasuke walked off, but turned around one more time to throw the box with dango towards Itachi.
“Choke on it.” Sasuke said as he walked off.
Chapter whatever
“Honey are you really going to be fine by yourself?” Sasuke’s mother said as he knocked on Sasuke’s door. She slowly opened it, looking at the bed.
“Owh he is sleeping.” She whispered.
“Let’s make our visit to your mother quick then.” His father said as he closed to door. Sasuke pulled his knees closer to him as he had his face hidden in his pillow. He could hear the front door close.
“I am so stupid…” Sasuke muttered as he turned his head to the side to breath. He closed his eyes as he pulled the blankets over his head.
“Sometimes….”
Sasuke’s eyes widened hearing Itachi’s voice.  He pulled the blankets off him and almost jumped up if it wasn’t for the hand pressed against his mouth.  Itachi indicated with his finger for Sasuke to remain silence before he removed his hand.
“Why do we have to be quiet?” Sasuke whispered.
“I wanted to say something, but slipped my mind.” Itachi said. Sasuke raised an eyebrow before shaking his head.
“You seemed pretty upset.I figured I had to check on you.”
“Why do you care so much?” Sasuke asked.
“You tell me..” Itachi sighed.
“Hey...I am sorry. For everything. I was so angry...I just assumed you were on his side right away. I am sorry.”
“Hmf...You could kill someone right in front of me, and I still would have told people you were innocent.”
Sasuke chuckled as he smiled before looking down.
“It is true...You are sweet.” Sasuke said as he looked at Itachi’s lips before looking at his eyes.
“That means alot coming from you. It also true what they say about you.”
“What?”Sasuke asked.
“You are troublesome…” The smile on Sasuke’s face disappeared.
“Well I guess that is right.” Sasuke said. He looked up feeling Itachi grabbing his side bang.  He rolled it with his finger around the lock, playing with it as if Sasuke’s wasn’t noticing it.
“Sorry.” Itachi said, as he looked at Sasuke. He had a small smile on his face, it made him look incredibly cute. Sasuke opened his mouth to say something, but his voice failed him.
“You have pretty hair,” Itachi said as he leaned slightly in to get more comfortable. He suddenly felt Sasuke’s hand on his cheek. His thumb was stroking Itachi’s cheek as he leaned in and closed the gap between their lips.
Itachi stiffened. It seemed his mind has failed him badly. He couldn’t breath, move, not even kiss Sasuke back.  He had been craving the sensation of Sasuke’s lips for as  long as he remembered feeling them for the first time. It didn’t last long for Sasuke to back off and look almost shocked.
“I am so sorry...I thought you were giving me signs that you were making moves, and I figured you might have been a little too shy. I am so sorry. I must have read every sign wrong. I thought you were into me... This is embarrassing.” Sasuke hid his face in his hands. “You..You should probably leave...Like...Now..”
“Sasuke... “
The younger Uchiha looked up to meet Itachi’s eye, but he didn’t get the chance. He felt his back pressed against the mattress. Sasuke looked up confused, seeing Itachi hang over him. He didn’t say anything as his fingers lifted Sasuke’s chin. He leaned in, placing his lips on Sasuke’s. He ended it pretty fast as he looked at Sasuke.
“I am not such a great kisser…”  Itachi said.
“No...No...You are fine,” Sasuke looked surprised as he moved his hands behind Itachi’s neck. “I have actually been craving this for a long time.”  Sasuke pushed Itachi lips on his again.
Oxoxoxxo
“And? What happened?” Shisui asked as he Itachi came back. He took his shoes off and sat down.  He opened his mouth to say something, but shut his lips again before looking away.
“Well?”
“He kissed me.” Itachi said as he started explaining what happened.
“Wow. I am impressed.” Shisui smiled, “But was it like a kiss kiss or one of those kisses you give to someone who helped you out with something.”
“Wait...What?” Itachi looked confused.  “What is the difference?” Itachi asked before looking at the table. “I don’t know...What if I just made a fool out of myself. Why did you have to say that!”
“Was it a deep kiss, or a quick one?”
“Like I know the difference!” Itachi muttered as he rested his head on the table.  “I must avoid him for as long as  I live now.”
“Don’t be like that, Itachi. You are Uchiha Itachi, nobody minds getting kisses by you anyway.”
“Shisui you are not helping!”

"What's wrong?" Sakura asks, watching Sasuke's eyes dart across the room again. The corners of his mouth turn sharply down and for the first time all evening, Sakura's smile fades.
Before now, she was beaming. This was the second-best day of her life - the first being Sasuke's proposal. It hadn't exactly been the romantic declaration Sakura had dreamed up, but Sasuke wasn't the type. In fact, it had been after Sakura had outmaneuvered his Sharingan in a spar - weeks of hard work with Itachi paying off - that Sasuke had grabbed her arm and in a flat demanding tone, ordered her to marry him. She was too shocked to be angry, and the beat afterward when he realized what he'd said and turned slightly nervous, his eyes fixed on her shoulder with a vulnerable tilt, well, that made up for it.
Sakura is under no illusions that Sasuke would hold the same excitement as her for this engagement party, but even so, she wouldn't expect him to be this displeased and restless.
"He's not here," He says and Sakura's attention turns away for a moment to scan the room. Who is missing?
But of course, as she sees Sasuke's jaw flex in a familiar way, restraining anger-tinged disappointment, it's obvious that only two men could be at fault. First, she thinks of his father, but he is across the room with some clansmen, smiling for once. It's a little disquieting, Sakura thinks, like seeing a dog walking on its hind legs.
Then her eyes stray to Mikoto, looking over her shoulder for the man she'd grown so close to she'd consider him brother as well. But he is not there. She scans again and she's sure. Itachi is missing. Guilt heats her cheeks. It'd taken too long for her to notice her dear friend gone. She'd been too wrapped up in herself.
"Itachi?" She asks. Sasuke doesn't assent, but she knows she's correct. "Did he say anything about not coming?"
Sasuke gives a condescending look Sakura lets roll off her. She makes allowance for Sasuke's attitude when his family is involved. More than anything, Sasuke strove for the approval of his father and brother, though he would never admit it. Itachi's absence has the dangerous connotation of a silent protest. That maybe Itachi doesn't approve of her or more accurately Sasuke's choice of her. It's ridiculous of course, she and Itachi got along great. But that's all Sakura can imagine is going through Sasuke's head. It's always a bit of a guessing game.
"I'm sure something came up at the last minute," She tries to soothe his fears, "A mission or something. He probably didn't have time to tell us."
"No," Sasuke quick to dismiss her, "He would have sent word for something like that. He sends a summons to mother at the least."
"Maybe some other clan business?" She tries, knowing this is another worn-out excuse.
Sasuke turns his face to the ceiling, seeming a tinge exasperated at another dumb question, "This is clan business."
That reminder dims her spirits even further. She and this fairytale time in her life are now reduced to clan business. "Well, then maybe Shisui -"
"He's not in the village." Sasuke interrupts, then quickly as if to shut her up. "If my brother's not here, it's because he doesn't want to be and that's that." Conversation over.
Sakura tries not to feel rebuffed, but his discontent has turned her joy to raw anxiousness tightening her chest. She feels uncomfortable in her own skin, on edge, and hyper-aware of Sasuke and what he will do next. She knows she won't be able to enjoy this second happiest day of her life if he's like this, so her whole focus turns to how she can fix it and make him happy again.
"I'm sure it's not that. I'm sure he wants to be here," She placates. "You are very important to him, Sasuke."
He scowls. She's touched on a tender bruise, broken an Uchiha taboo. She doesn't care. He needs to hear it from someone.
"Are you sure he didn't say anything to you?" She tries one more time.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" He snaps and this takes her aback. She can't even guess what is hidden between his words. She doesn't know what to do with it. It sounds like jealousy, but that can't be right.
She fights the urge to kiss his cheek, knowing he despised public displays. Instead, she settles for seeking his stiff hand under the table and giving it a squeeze he doesn't return. "I'll find him. He's probably just not feeling well."
Though she'd never ventured to ask Sasuke, she had noticed on a few occasions Itachi's coughing spells- her medic's ear marking them as abnormal. She wonders if this is just another one of the long list of taboos his family didn't discuss or acknowledge - like that would erase it from existence.
As she stands, Sasuke doesn't look at her - probably a sign that he disapproves or thinks it's useless- but he doesn't stop her - probably a sign that he hopes it isn't. She can only guess.
Several people offer congratulations as she makes her excuses and slides out a door in the back. Now that the rose-colored glasses have been knocked off her face, she notes the mixed reactions on the Uchiha's faces. A pair of women offering sharp, judgemental smirks. An old man by Fugaku looking at her like a show pony they've just bought for a bargain. Younger clansmen too, with smiles too cheery to be real, hoping to gain some favor with her for political gain later on. She walks a little faster, feeling claustrophobic without Sasuke's daunting presence to keep them at bay. A flash of herself years older hits her - hardened in the same standoffish way by years of this clan life. Her throat constricts. She does not like this woman.
She moves more quickly to the exit, feeling frazzled, on the edge of overwhelmed. The cool air on her cheeks is just what she needs and she finds she's craving the same steady cool presence of Itachi as well. He's uncomplicated in a way his clan is not - in a way even Sasuke sometimes is not. As she rounds the back of the house, she sees a fat, orange cat curled up in a golden ray of fading sun. She's reminded of peaceful walks and quiet moments of kindness. She hopes Itachi is alright.
Doubling her pace, she's headed toward the only place she can think - Shisui's. If he's not there, she's not sure what she'll do. What if he had a coughing fit and passed out somewhere? Because what else could possibly cause Itachi to miss such an important day for Sasuke - nothing. He liked to spend time alone in the forest - in places even Shisui had trouble finding him. God, what if he was passed out, stranded in some hidden nook there? She'd have no chance of finding him at all. What if he was alone and hurt and struggling to breathe between those ragged, wet coughs and - She's almost jogging, a brisk walk at best, her fancy dress constricting her movements.
The tightness in her chest is back, the image of Uchiha - two-faced, red eyed vipers - pressing in on her at all sides tattooed to the back of her eyes. It flashes up with each blink so there was no relief, even as every step takes her farther away. She looks down at the ring on her finger, soon to be binding her to the clan forever. How did Sasuke and Itachi live with the stress of that every single day? How would she deal with it?
She's not sure if she can do this - any of it.
Focus, she tells herself, forcing air deep into her lungs.
If Itachi's not at Shisui's, she'd grab Naruto and have him search for Itachi's chakra, and if that doesn't work - if there isn't any lifeforce left to find - no, that's crazy. She's spiraling - she knows it. But the day has had such an unreal quality of a dream, that she feels it could just as easily twist into a nightmare. This is ridiculous, she tells herself. He's fine. He is fine. I am fine.
She's almost there, able to see the house in the distance. It looks dark and empty.
What if he's not there? What if he's not fine and Naruto can't find him - of course - she'd grab Hinata and they'd use her Byakugan to find him and Sakura would use her seal and some outrageous amount of chakra would fix everything.
The windows are dark, the inside of the house empty. The door is locked when she tries it, but Sakura is undeterred and focused. She has a plan - the house, Naruto, Hinata, her Seal - but her hands still shake. She runs one over the door jam for a spare key, looks under potted plants, under rocks - chipping her freshly painted nails. A back door? She swings around the outside of the house about to stomp carelessly through the garden, rose's thorns be damned when finally like a cool wave cresting over her, she sees him.
Itachi is there and he's breathing and that's all she takes the time to notice. His back to her, neck craned downward at something she can't see.
"There you are," there's a note of hysteria in her voice she hopes passes as anger. She's striding over to him quickly, intent to either punch him or hug him - by the way her head was swimming with relief, probably the latter. "Where the hell have you been? I thought something happened to you."
hanahaki disease starter for @haruno-sakura-san
It was supposed to be a happy occasion. Mikoto had been bustling about the kitchen all morning preparing food for the celebration to come that evening. Even Fugaku was in an uncharacteristically good mood.
Guests had started arriving close to an hour ago. Everyone was dressed in their finest clothes. Everything seemed perfect for the announcement of Sakura and Sasuke’s engagement. Everything except for one notably absent Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi knew he was bound to get a lecture from Mikoto and much worse than that from his father. Sasuke was so excited about the engagement, that Itachi knew his absence would hurt his little brother dearly. But It was so much better than the alternative.
The alternative which was Itachi ruining the whole evening by spewing bloody cherry blossom petals all over the freshly cleaned floors or his mother’s fine china.
Instead, Itachi had slipped away to Shisui’s garden to instead spew bloody cherry blossoms all over Shisui’s roses. Gods how he hated the taste of cherry petals now, always coated in the sickly tang of iron as the smell of fresh blood hit his nose.
Would she notice he was missing from the party? Was it entirely selfish of him to hope that she did? Would it be better to have her be angry at him or to have her say nothing at all?
This time it was a full blossom that came up, coughed violently down into his palm. The delicate petals wet with blood reminded him of a newly hatched butterflies wings.
It wasn’t fair of him to feel this way. She was never going to be an option for him. She was his brother’s teammate, even before she was his brother’s girlfriend (now fiancé. Thinking the word pains him. It makes more petals dance in his chest.) She had no clan and as much as Itachi hated it, as heir to the Uchiha head family there were certain things expected of the woman he would marry. And Sakura was none of those things. A skilled Kunoichi, a good match for Fugaku’s second son. Yet Itachi had found himself astonished by her.
Her intelligence was striking. She rivaled Shikamaru and Itachi and every other clan prodigy with her tactical skills, though her prowess as a medical shinobi often overshadowed people’s ability to recognize her skill. Not only was she smart, but she was endlessly kind, forever putting the needs of others above herself. A trait he worried his brother would not appreciate. As if none of that was enough, she was constantly pushing herself to improve. To be better. To reach even greater heights, because it might mean she could save just one more person.
The first petal had appeared when Sakura came to Itachi for training in genjutsu. He expected her to be a novice. Genjutsu was not Kakashi’s specialty. But when he tested her abilities he found her to have already far surpassed her peers and indeed her skills rivaled those of many jonin ranked shinobi. She asked, begged Itachi to use his sharingan to push her to her limits and every time she reached them, it was not long before she had surpassed those limits.
He’d done everything he could to hide his condition as it worsened. She walked with him as he fed the stray cats of Konoha. Itachi excused himself to cough up two petals in the bathroom of a teashop.
She brought him Dango in the afternoons after she finished training. He carefully hid a petal he had coughed up into a napkin. Sakura joined them for dinner and Itachi had to work hard to silence his cough while Sakura, Mikoto and he all cooked together.
With the engagement, Itachi knew that he was only going to get worse. He knew the appearance of blossoms meant his condition was well advanced. The only person who knew was Shisui (who had twice before caught Itachi spewing up cherry blossom petals in his garden.) who had been spending more and more time away from the village in hopes of finding a solution, a way to save his beloved cousin.
Itachi, however, had accepted his fate. He wouldn’t begrudge his brother the happiness he so desperately longed to take for himself. But he also had no intention of making them suffer as he deteriorated. He’d already made the decision. He was just waiting for a chance to slip in after the guests had left and to leave a note for his family, letting them know he was leaving. Slipping away to suffer quietly, as had always been Itachi’s lot in life.
Staring down at the bloody cherry blossom, Itachi’s only regret was that he didn’t have the courage to face her in order to say his goodbye.

Unusual inheritance prompts; #1? (and as a side note can I just say your work is amazing? Like I wish I could use my words better to describe how much I love your writing)
UchihaSakura
Sakura was really good with kids, like, it was somewhat unusual how skilled she was at worming her way into their hearts and gaining their trust. It was one of the things she was know among the older crowds for.
Still…that wasn’t a good enough excuse for what Tajima pulled with this, ‘I leave all my children in the caring hands of my sister at heart, Haruno Sakura.’ Yeah, it was cute he called her his sister at heart, because they were best buds, but really? Her? Mother children?
“I’m still allowed to drink, right?” Sakura asked, looking sideways at her friend who was already one kid in. Ino smirked.
“As long as you’re not cooking anything in the oven, drinking is a necessary evil. I don’t know how Sai does it.”
Sakura moaned, grabbing at her face and turning back on her heel, away from the front gates to the Uchiha estate. “There are so many other Uchiha he could have asked, though. An-and Madara is like, sixteen. They don’t need me.”
“You really want another Uchiha raising those Uchiha boys? They’re emotionally neglected enough as it is. They didn’t even seem phased at the funeral.”
Sakura remembered back to the funeral she had attended only a handful of days ago, and how upset she had been. Just because the boys weren’t bawling into their tissues didn’t mean they weren’t grieving in their own way. He was their dad!
“I don’t know how to do this,” Sakura admitted, even as she rang the bell and stepped back.
Beside her, Ino smiled to herself. Even if she was scared, Sakura never stepped away from doing the right thing.
A maid led both girls in and took their coats. A manservant came up and introduced himself as the head caretaker of the house. He would be taking care of the needs to the manor, which would go to Madara as soon as he turned eighteen along with a bulk of the properties.
Sakura didn’t get to see any of that, but a stipulation of the will provided that she be given shelter for as long as she asked in any of the properties. Failure to accommodate her request would result in the loss of that property. This didn’t sit well with a few of the other Uchiha who inherited property, but Sakura wasn’t planning on mooching off anyone or staying anywhere she wasn’t welcomed.
“The boys will see you now.”
Sakura looked behind her to Ino, eyes wide with fear. Ino just waved goodbye and let herself out. Sakura would be on her own from that point forward.
Tajima had two natural sons, but had taken in three other boys before passing. Madara was the oldest at sixteen, his brother Izuna was fifteen, then there was Kagami, Shisui, and little Obito. From what she heard the two oldest were very traditional while the two in the middle were uncharacteristically energetic and loud, leaving Obito too little to see how he turned out.
The doors to the library opened and Sakura caught her breath, bracing for the first impression.
Things didn’t go as smoothly as Sakura would have liked after that disastrous first meeting. The door had been rigged with a bucket of chalk powder that Shisui took great delight in seeing fall as planned right atop her head. He and Kagami cackled evilly  while Madara didn’t acknowledge her presence once during the whole introduction. Izuna greeted her highly, the way you would greet the staff of a restaurant you never planned on going back to.
Out of all of them only Obito seemed warm to her. He was five and too young to have a rotten personality, she decided.
She helped the head make their morning breakfast and called them down for school before wishing them a good day. None of them paid her any mind apart from Obito who insisted on being held as he ate his breakfast. He was warm and Sakura wanted to hug him all day long, like a stress ball.
When the boys returned home from school she tried to help them with homework and interject herself into their lives, but only Izuna seemed to respond to her in those cold stiff words of his.
The first week was hell.
“Obaa chan,” a voice called out to her from the doorway. Sakura roused from bed and saw it was Obito in his dinosaur onesie. His eyes were wet again and his tiny hands were shaking.
“Come here, baby,” Sakura sighed, holding out her arms and taking him into bed with her.
He curled up into a tight ball and shook with the aftershock from another terrible nightmare. He got them every few nights but this was the first time he came to her about it. When she checked in on him in the past he had hidden from her and refused to see anyone. None of his brothers seemed to care.
He was warm and his hair was just long enough to start curling. He was from a different branch family, but he looked a lot like Shisui, she thought. She took great delight in running her fingers through his curls and he seemed to melt under her hand.
“Better?” she hummed, sitting up and watching as he followed her onto her lap, laying his head there.
“You’re not going to leave, are you?” he asked in a tired whisper.
“Not anytime soon. Why do you ask?”
His voice was soft and low, close to sleep. “Nannies always leave. None of them ever stay.”
“I’m not a nanny. I”m more like an aunt.”
He pulled himself up, curling more into her tummy atop her lap. “None of those want us, not even Madara. They just want the houses and the monies, so Madara said he’d make you leave too.”
Sakura’s fingers stilled before she remembered herself and went back to finger combing his hair. “Oh? Did he tell you why or how he was going to do that?”
“Nuh, not to me.”
“It’s okay,” Sakura whispered, watching his eyes drift closed. His snores were light a few seconds later as he went slack on her lap. He was too adorable looking like a curled up cartoon dinosaur. “I’m not planning on going anywhere.”
“You’re quite fortunate to have Sakura san so close,” Itachi admitted, eyes soft as he watched clouds from the school window.
Shisui blanched in his seat. “Ew, why would you say something like that? She’s just another stupid Uchiha digger, in it for the money and junk.”
Itachi blinked, looking away from the window to his cousin and best friend. “You don’t like her?” He sounded surprised. “I thought she would be your type.”
There was a light blush across the front of Shisui’s face, but he buried his expression in his folded arms to hide it from Itachi. “Just because she’s cute doesn’t mean I have to like her. She’ll be gone in another week just like the others. Madara is freezing her out and Izuna is giving her the ‘help’ treatment. She won’t last.”
“That sounds unkind.”
“It’s what they do with all the ones that come through. She’s no different.”
Itachi stared at his cousin before a slow smile started to spread across his face. “You don’t know why Tajima chose her to be your guardian, do you?” he asked in a knowing tone. It irked Shisui.
“He probably had the hots for her or something. She could have seduced him or…or…she used to work at the hospital, I think. Maybe she took advantage of him when he was sick.”
Itachi was still smirking and it drove Shisui crazy.
“If you know something I don’t then spit it out,” Shisui snapped.
“No, I wouldn’t want to deprive you of the joy of discovery. It’s better if you found out for yourself. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you what I knew anyway.”
“Che, you’re just making stuff up. I bet there’s nothing more to her than a pretty face.” Shisui started to turn back around in his seat, noticing the teacher walking back into the classroom. “But how did you know about Sakura?”
Now it was Itachi’s turn to blush. “She’s the only doctor my family will allow. She preformed my surgery last year and has been who I go see every moth after rehabilitation.”
Shisui straightened and turned around in his seat, eyes wide. “That was her? She’s too young!”
“Uchiha san,” the teacher called out in a gruff voice. “The class is starting. Please save your comments for later if you wish to speak with your cousin any more than this.”
That night when the boys trailed in after school Sakura was at the door with Obito hanging onto her leg, looking sleepy. She smiled wide and greeted them the same she did every day, not seeming to care that no one responded to her and effectivly ignored her all the way in.
Madara, Izuna, and Kagami went on ahead, each as silent as the grave, leaving Shisui out on the doorstep by himself. Sakura turned back to look at him and her smile faltered.
“Shisui?”
Slowly, he stepped over the threshold and started to tug off his shoes. “I-I’m home.”
Kagami, who was still in the hall, turned sharply on his heel to look at his adopted brother while Izuna and Madara both froze. The eldest son turned slowly to glare back over his shoulder at Shisui, but Shisui just swallowed and straightened his shoulders.
“Welcome home, Shisui,” Sakura breathed, her smile bright and wide.
It was actually Izuna who tried to break her next.
“I need an adult to meet for parent teacher conference week. Will you attend or should I inform the school I will have no one?” Izuna asked, tilting his chin up as he looked at her.
“Oh-oh, of course. Yes, tell them I will be there. When and where will I meet with your teacher?”
Izuna handed her a card with the date and time. On the back was the classroom number right above the teacher’s name. “Please keep this to aide you.”
Sakura took it and looked the card over. “That’s fantastic. Your school must be fancier than mine ever was,” Sakura hummed, glancing up as Obito tottered into the room and made a beeline for her lap. She didn’t protest as he climbed up and dragged a picture book with him.
Izuna huffed at the sight before starting to turn away. “Undoubtably. The Uchiha are afforded only the best.”
“I’ll be there for this meeting,” Sakura promised, kissing the top of Obito’s head.
Izuna paused at the edge of the room and smiled politely. It was a perfect smile that would have fooled anyone, but Sakura was used to having Sai as a best friend. She saw right through it.
“Thank you for being so considerate with sharing your time,” Izuna said, nodding to her once before slipping away.
He never mentioned how the time and location were all wrong, but planned on bragging to Madara how bad he would make her look in front of not just the boys, but the whole school. Hopefully that would cheer his brother up after that stunt Shisui pulled when he switched sides. The little traitor was now honestly pleasant with the woman, pretending that Madara never orchestrated the whole freeze out in the first place.
Even Kagami was starting to get bored and lessen up on his pranks. He didn’t seem as ‘interested’ in making her cry after so many failed attempts. It didn’t help that Sakura seemed to find his pranks almost as funny as Kagami himself. That did a lot to destroy the moral of the freeze out occupants.
The next day Izuna headed to his appointment with the teacher and seated himself, prepared to wait as long as need be for the woman who would show up two hours late and in the wrong classroom. It would be boring to stay seated in silence for that long, but Izuna was nothing if not committed to the whims and desires of his eldest brother. If Madara thought they were better off without this one, Izuna would do whatever it took to make his brother happy. If he had to humiliate the poor woman than so-
“Sorry I’m late,” Sakura gasped, near breathless as she pushed the door all the way open. Her hair was a wild mess of soft curls that seemed to glow from the sunlight filtering in behind her. When she smiled it was dazzling. “I had to take the stairs because the elevator was packed. You’re very busy today.”
“Not at all, we’re glad you could join us,” the teacher began, standing to shake her hand.
She laughed and let herself into the room easily, taking his hand. “Haruno Sakura,” she said. “And thank you for the clarification on today’s time and location. It was helpful.”
She took a seat beside and smiled easily at his flummoxed expression. It wasn’t a mean smile either, but one that seemed full of amusement. Her eyes were sparkling after all.
“Well, are you ready to hear how amazing Izuna is doing?” the teacher asked.
Sakura set down her purse and leaned in. “Of course.”
“You’ve done a wonderful job this past month, but you’ve effectively devastated my brother, I’m afraid.”
Sakura stilled and stood up from the bath she was scrubbing down. Madara stood in the doorway, his arms crossed looking as haughty as ever. It wasn’t a coincidence that he was choosing to finally speak with her after such a long freeze out when she was bent over in menial labor looking more like a housemaid than a Uchiha guardian.
“I’m sorry if Izuna isn’t feeling well, but he’s been doing so well in school he can afford a day off or two. Is there something else you wanted to talk to me about, or do you want to go back to pretending you can’t speak to women.”
“It’s just you, don’t think too much of yourself,” Madara huffed, lifting his chin. “Things are no different. I still don’t accept you.”
Sakura pouted. “You’re so stubborn, Madara chan, just like your father when he was that age.”
There was a still in the air between them as Sakura went on scrubbing and Madara reeled from her words.
“You’re far too young to speak like you knew him, woman,” he finally grumbled out, sounding less lofty.
“You’re so sweet, but I’m actually a lot older than I look. But don’t tell anyone. People still think I’m twenty three when I tell them that and it makes me feel good.”
He glared. “I’m not going to ask you how old you are.”
Sakura glanced back over her shoulder, still scrubbing away the stains in her own tub. “You’re not curious at all, are you? That’s another thing you and your father have in common, you’re both terrible liars when you’re embarassed. Ruffle the feathers of an Uchiha and suddenly they’re an open book of expressions.”
Madara was never readable, not even when he was ruffled. She irked him to no end with her presumptions. “You did something to the old man for this. I don’t know what it was, but it can’t be worth it. How much was it and what is it worth to you to walk away?”
“Grow up and maybe I’ll consider it, but until you’re actually an adult, Madara chan, I’m here to stay. That’s what your dad wanted, and I’m going to do right by his memory, even if you’re a little unhappy about it.”
“Don’t talk about him like you two were close. He never mentioned you.” Madara reached into the back pocket of his black denim jeans and started to write out something while she continued to clean in the tub.
“Yo, your dad didn’t talk about anything without a pretty good reason. We called him the stone because that’s how much lip flapping he did. I’m not surprised he didn’t sit you down and talk about all the other members on his squad units when he was in the force or in the coalition. You hear about Butsuma or Toka? No?”
Sakura sat up in the tub and narrowed her eyes at the younger boy’s hands.
“What are you doing?”
Madara ripped the paper free from the checking book and turned it around before sliding it across the counter. “Write in what you want, it won’t make a dent. Take it and never look back.”
Sakura left the scrub brush behind as she stood and stepped out of the tub, holding onto the wall for balance. She reached for the check and then looked to Madara. He watched her, unblinking as she took his blank check and lowered it slowly into the open toilet. Sakura grinned as the paper soaked through before pulling it out again and dropping it into the trash.
“You’ll regret that,” Madara threatened.
Sakura rolled her shoulders and sat back down on the edge of the tub. “You’re cute when you think you’re scary, Madara chan, but save your energy. You have mock entrance exams coming up in a few weeks and your teacher promised to get me the study materials you would need once results are posted.”
Madara turned on his heel and left her there, fuming as he locked himself away and skipped dinner.
Later that night he woke up panting, the image of his current caretaker rising from a bubble bath in nothing but bubbles and that wicked smile haunting him more vividly than ever before. He groaned and held his face, knowing he shouldn’t have talked to her. It only made the dreams worse.
Sakura waited by the car for the boys to file in, tugging her coat closer. Moments later the head maid held open the doors for all five of them to file out. Obito skipped half the steps down as he raced to greet her.
“Oba-oba-oba!” he chanted, jumping for her. “I look like a soft man now. Tell me I look nice pleeeeeease.”
“You always look adorable, Obito chan, but tonight you look extra good. Are you looking forward to the party? Sasuke will be there for you to play with.”
Obito hummed, but was already wiggling out of her arms back to Shisui who helped him into his car seat. Kagami waited and watched the two younger boys before smiling up at Sakura.
“You did a good job on your makeup, Sakura chan,” Kagami complimented. “I’m sure you’re just as elegantly dressed, but I’ll save my compliment for later once we are inside.” His smirk was flirtatious for a fourteen year old.
“You can buckle up,” Shisui grumbled, tugging on the older boy’s arm. “And cut that out. You’re creeping her out with your old lines.”
“At least I have lines.”
“I-I have lines too!” Shisui inflated where he sat in the back of the limo. Kagami rolled his eyes and shook his head dismissively. It only angered the younger Uchiha more. Obito kicked his legs in the carseat and played with the buttons on his coat.
Sakura looked up to see both Madara and Izuna round the opposite side of the limo and take their seats without a word. It was back to the silent treatment it seemed. She wanted to believe she was close, it had been over a month of living together and she had already won over three out of five of them. Madara would talk to her ever so often, mostly to tell her to leave and insult her, but Izuna was still polite with her at least. He didn’t meet her eyes anymore, but he also didn’t try to get her lost or sent to the wrong place anymore.
Sakura slipped in last to the passenger’s seat in the front and watched the manor pull away as they turned towards one of the branch family homes for the evening party. The Uchiha had parties on the average every three months, excluding December where there were entire weeks of parties. Sakura had to dip into her personal funds for a new dress.
“Is this your first time at an Uchiha party?” Shisui asked, leaning over the headrest as far as he could to see her better.
“My first in a while,” Sakura admitted, watching as the new home came into view. “It’s been a few years since I’ve had to dress up for anything.”
“It’s your first time as our guardian then,” Shisui added, tone thoughtful. Behind him Madara huffed, smirk taunting. It was enough to make Shisui ruffle, but Kagame held up a hand and stopped it before it could escalate.
Sakura glanced up into the mirrors and smiled to herself. “It’ll be nice to see a few old friends. We’re almost there. You boys ready?”
No one knew how untrue their answers were when they all said they were before exiting the limo.
Madara and Izuna stayed close to each other as the younger brood raced off to greet friends. The other Uchiha children were present at the party and Shisui and Obito were especially close with a couple of them.
“Did Sakura chan come?” Itachi asked after greeting Shisui.
The question made Madara pause and exchange a glance with his brother. The pair hung back to watch from a short distance as Shisui begrudgingly led Itachi over to the front entrance where Sakura had been talking to the coat check woman.
She undid the front of her cloak and the fur fell away to expose the element folds of a midnight blue strapless that bled to black at the bottom and white at the neck. It was cinched at the waist but the curves were by no means lost. It came up into a high neck collar and when she turned to pass the coat back Madara hear the Itachi boy make a sound as he nearly stumbled. It was backless and low enough to show off a generous canvass of skin. It also distracted the average eye from how few jewels she wore.
Madara hated how he could already feel the flavor and direction of his dreams that night.
Sakura became the focus of a handful of young boys, most of whom chose to observe her from a distance. Madara and Izuna watched her socialize with ease, greeting old and young Uchiha alike. No one seemed to dislike her and a few went out of their way to greet her.
A few young Uchiha bachelors.
Kagami, Shisui, and Itachi were a mess of stealth, making it obvious who they were tracking but Sakura never seemed to care. After a while she asked Itachi to dance and the boy looked over the moon at the offer, much to the horror of Shisui and Kagami alike. Sakura danced with all of them eventually. She might have even danced with Izuna and Madara if they didn’t pull away when she looked for them.
“You’re still committed to hating her?” Izuna asked as the night aged.
“You sound tired. Do you want to give up?” Madara bit back.
“I’ll do whatever you wish, but is this what you wish. You’re staring at her the way I stare at her, the way those boys stare at her.” Izuna ducked his head and blushed. “Also, the walls are thin between our bedrooms. I know better.”
Madara refused to blush.
“She’s just here for the money. She’ll leave once she gets what she wants. Best not to get attached.”
They left together before midnight, but by the time their car pulled in and the boys were put to bed it was well after the witching hour. Obito clung to her even in his sleep and it took a bit longer to settle him, but Sakura finally accomplished her goal.
She was wiping off her make up in a nightgown and house slippers when she heard the scuffle. Sakura dropped the wet pad back onto the vanity and crept out into the hallway, drawing her silk robe closed to keep back the chill. She saw a door open and Izuna poked his head out. A second later Madara did as well.
“Was that you?” the eldest hissed at her.
Sakura touched a finger to her lips and passed them up, slipping out of her slippers as she walked and bending low into the shadows. The boys stayed in the hallway, thankfully, as she made her way down the stairs and onto the main floor. She found the overturned vase and righted it, before turning and scanning the room. There was no way a vase as heavy as that one turned over on it’s own.
She swept the rooms, one by one, going slow and remembering much as old training took over. She was nearly through the first floor when she heard it. Footsteps on the stairs.
There were two of them, both looking familiar until Sakura remembered seeing their faces at the party earlier. Most of the Uchiha were still celebrating and it was unusual for members to leave as early as Sakura, but she had to with the kids. It was a smart idea to sneak out and try to rob the homes of people you knew were still out partying. Too bad these boys didn’t do their homework well enough.
She trailed them up, feeling her robe open and flap soundlessly behind her, as she made her steps low to the ground and long. She was behind the first one and struck before he could hear. He went down in a crumple and that was enough to make the first robber take notice.
Still too late.
They exchanged a few blows, but it was laughable how easy his moves were to see through. He wasn’t trained, he wasn’t fast, just a little strong and stupid.
Sakura was stronger.
The sound of him falling limp drew Madara and Izuna both out of their rooms, but the rest of the boys stayed asleep. Sakura saw their eyes widen at the sight.
“Keep it quiet, but Madara, call the police department for a pick up. I’ll take these boys down to the front to meet them. But go back to bed after that. You need your rest.”
“Who…?” Izuna let his question hang.
“Simple thieves,” Sakura answered with ease, picking one up by the belt loop and heaving him up onto her shoulder before grabbing the other to stack onto her opposite shoulder. “Now go to sleep.”
Sakura turned and started carrying them down the stairs, only slightly annoyed when she heard the boys follow after her. They never listened to her before, so why would they now? Sakura was in the foyer when she hear the shot. It rang out and ripped right through her lower abdomen. She fell with both bodies sliding off her shoulders, only to turn and see a third man, also from the party.
‘Shit, I got sloppy.’
Izuna screamed her name and Sakura saw the thug turn. He almost raise his gun but Sakura flung the blunt side of a cartridge at his head and rushed him.He went down like a sack of potatoes and she pummeled into him like he was her punching bag. He tried to swing back, but Sakura hit hard and there were teeth on the floor, bloody at the root and freely scattered.
He stopped moving and so did Sakura. He was still alive, but recovery would be a bitch and take forever.
There were sirens outside as Sakura started to stand. The blood leaking out of her was thick in color, staining huge slabs of her nightwear.
“Why would you do that?” Izuna asked on a strangled note of panic. Sakura looked up and saw both boys not far away, Madara crouched protectively in front of his brother. She turned a little and lights from the outside made the room bright enough to see how wet with blood she was for a split second.
“You’re hurt!” Madara exclaimed, even as Izuna pushed forward to try and reach her first with helpful hands.
Sakura kept them back with a hand raise and told them to not get too close or else they would get dirty too.
“Like any of us care about that now,” Madara muttered, looking down at the destroyed face of her shooter. “Where did you learn to do such damage?”
There were police rushing in and flooding the foyer. A few went to the knocked out thieves and a pair went to Sakura, helping with her wound and pushing Izuna aside. Over their shoulders Sakura’s eyes found Madara’s. She smiled and he felt pinned to the spot. She touched her lips and let the on site paramedics patch her up while she recounted her tale to the police officers.
It was probably the last night Madara was embarassed about his dreams and also the last night of the freeze out. A month later and the oddly aged family unit was unrecognizable.
“They’re really overdoing it. It’s a little cold, but you’d think she’d freeze and die with a stray wind,” Fugaku huffed to his wife, watching Madara and Izuna fuss over Sakura’s lack of a scarf when she said she was going out to the car to get something she forgot. It was a half minute walk and they insisted on making her wear a scarf and hat, much to her displeasure.
“They’re trying to stand out,” Mikoto cooed into her husband’s ear. “Don’t tell me you missed how our son fawns over her. He’s been doing that for ages and they’re all trying to catch up.”
“They’re brainless.”
Mikoto smirked. “Uchiha boys usually are when it comes to matters of the heart, my love.”

Sweet Sweet Love
This oneshot is dedicated to my lovely friend @circlemagick! She's one of the greatest people I've had the pleasure of meeting on Tumblr and always manages to make our 3 a.m conversations memorable.
Sorry this took me so long!
He called him kid.
Not Itachi or Uchiha-san. Not some fake honorific that everyone else usually threw at him. It was just kid. Itachi didn't mind the nickname. In fact, he sort of enjoyed it. The casual way in which Genma would greet him was a breath of fresh air. There was no need to act around the man. The only other person who offered him that respite was Shisui. But Genma was different. Itachi didn't fantasize about kissing Shisui the way he did about Genma.
His smile was crooked and his stance relaxed. There was nothing about him that was overtly remarkable or noteworthy. The man possessed an unbreakable cool about him and would always offer Itachi a grin and drawled greeting when they saw each other.
Itachi was smitten.
When he would be invited to parties he would turn to Shisui to go through the motions. Itachi had a distinct lack of social grace. He was quiet and almost awkward in crowds. He hated being in the middle of social gatherings because he wasn't in his element there. Shisui however was always quick to drag him out on an adventure. Kakashi and Genma were always quick to join in and just the sight of the smooth talking brunette had Itachi feeling warm.
Genma never noticed this however and always greeted Itachi the same he always did. It was loud and crowded and Itachi was pretty sure someone had already puked. Kakashi and Shisui had made themselves scarce and Itachi was prepared to book it for the door. However, he stilled when he noticed Genma approaching him with his little crooked grin.
"Itachi! I was wondering where you were at!" He greeted and Itachi inclined his head in greeting, lips pulling into a half smile.
"Genma." He replied and Genma offered Itachi a beer even though he knew Itachi was too young to drink and would politely decline it.
"You enjoying yourself yet?" Genma asked, taking a drink from the beer.
"As much as can be expected." Itachi hummed.
"Have you seen the entertainment?"
The what?"
Genma threw an arm around Itachi's shoulder and offered him a sly grin, leaning down close to his ear. Itachi tried not to tense up at this and instead focused on his breathing, even as he felt Genma's breath tickle his ear.
"You see," Genma murmured. "Asuma has a…thing for Kurenai. Hatake and I have been taking bets on how long it will take the two of them to jump each other." Itachi looked towards Genma at this, brows furrowing as he mulled over the man's words.
"Do they realize that the feeling is mutual?" Itachi asked and Genma snorted, chin lifting as he offered the boy a haughty grin that had Itachi's knees quaking.
"Probably not. They're not exactly geniuses when it comes to that sort of stuff. Me? I would know a mile away of some pretty lady or guy had it in deep for me. No need for all that nonsense." Genma flashed Itachi another sly grin and the Uchiha felt his heart flutter at the sight. Genma caught sight of Aoba and pat itachi on the shoulder, bidding him a goodnight before making his way over to his friend and leaving Itachi deep in thought.
What was it about Genma that had Itachi so…enchanted? He wasn't a renowned Shinobi of limitless talent. He wasn't some otherworldly attractive man. He was just…Genma. But that casual, flirty persona had Itachi hooked and he didn't know what to do with himself.
Yet Itachi was just kid. It was at this time that Itachi really understood how young he was. He was fifteen and scrawny. Not some bodacious female or a rugged male. He was hardly something worth looking at. His skin was pasty and the troves beneath his eyes were hardly flattering. His hair lacked the deepness that Shisui's and Sasuke's had and his body was not something that attracted much attention.
Next to everyone else, Itachi was far too plain and he felt it was all to obvious. Normally, he wouldn't care about something as hapless as looks, but now that he found himself actually falling for someone he wished he looked the part. He wished he wasn't so scrawny and that his hair wasn't so boring. He didn't even know Genma's type. Genma just liked people. Men or women, tall or short. But then again, they were all attractive people and Itachi knew he had no chance of catching the man's attention. Some things were just not meant to be.
Sometimes missions can really suck. Especially the ones that last for an extended amount of time. Genma found this out the hard way when Lady Tsunade sent him out to Suna for six months. That was a whole six months away from home and while it was fun for the first couple of months, Genma quickly found himself bored and ready to return back to Konoha. So, naturally when it was time to return, he was elated.
He quickly made his rounds after reporting to the Hokage. Anko was pleased to see him and Kakashi had baked him a really shitty cake, but it was the thought that counts? Aoba took him out for lunch, both falling into the familiar routine of insults and banter. Konoha was just so…nice. Trees and grass and no fucking sand! Genma had spent ten minutes just basking in being in the cafe, while Aoba half listened.
The cafe was bustling, Genin were rushing around like the place was some sort of playground. Anko had come to the table and smacked Genma upside the head in greeting. It was good to be home…
That's when Itachi passed by; his dark hair was pulled in his normal low ponytail. Genma turned around, eyes fixing on the Uchiha before widening. Gone was the scrawny, coltish figure of a gawky teenager and in it's places was a young man with a slender body and lithe muscle. He still wasn't built stronger like Genma or Yamato, but instead there was something almost feline about him and his appearance. His cheekbones were sharp and there was just the hint of youthfulness around his jaw. His already long eyelashes looked incredibly thick and curled at the corners. His lips were full and pink; Genma found himself unable to look away from them and those legs of his seemed to stretch on for days. It was like the perfect mix between masculinity and femininity.
"Is that…Itachi?" He managed to ask, voice suspiciously rough. Anko stole Genma's dango but he hardly noticed, still staring over his shoulder.
"Mhm." Aoba's voice was amused but the other nin did not notice.
"Well shit." Genma breathed.
"You're staring Genma." Anko hummed.
"Shut up, Aoba." Genma hissed from the corner of his mouth. Anko chortled while Aoba lifted an exasperated eyebrow and Genma quickly excused himself much to the glee of Aoba and Anko, striding towards Itachi who was on his way to the Hokage's tower. He was dressed in his regulation Uchiha outfit and god damn, did those pants cup his ass nicely.
"Itachi," Genma called out, jogging up to walk at Itachi's side. The Uchiha turned his head, offering Genma a surprised smile.
"Genma-san." He greeted. Even his voice had changed, deepening into something like liquified chocolate. "I heard you had gotten back." A small group of civilians passed by, but Genma did not look away from the Uchiha. Itachi was smiling that small but pleasant smile of his.
Six months. Genma had been gone for only six months and somehow puberty managed to make sweet sweet love with the Uchiha.
"Heh, yeah I got back late last night." Genma explained with a little laugh.
"It's good to see you again." Itachi commented. He had a report under his arm with a thick stack of paper.
"You going to the Hokage?" Genma finally managed to find his words and Itachi nodded. He glanced over his shoulder at the Hokage tower.
"Yes, I finished my reports on my operatives and I was just going to bring these up to her." He indicated to the stack and Genma nodded.
"Oh, then I won't hold you." Genma replied, not noticing the small slump that appeared on Itachi's shoulders as the boy nodded.
"Yes, but we should certainly catch up later if you'd like?" Itachi offered and it took everything Genma had not to nod enthusiastically.
"Yeah, see you soon…later. I'll be seeing you…later on from right now." Genma stumbled over his words, mentally kicking himself and Itachi smiled politely.
"See you later, Genma." He stated before turning and walking away, leaving Genma to stare after him. That ass was like art and Genma wanted in.
Later when Genma went out to the bar with his friends, they decided to keep on fucking with him. They had practically dragged him here, despite his assistance that he wasn't in the mood to drink. It was still early by bar standards and Anko had yet to arrive. This once again left Kakashi and Yamato. Not that Genma minded. They were usually fun, except when they were teasing him about his not crush on Itachi. Even if said Uchiha was gorgeous and had a nice ass that Genma wanted to eat...moving on.
"Genma," Kakashi sighed, as he set his beer down on the table with an audible thump. "Itachi's had a crush on you since he was like fourteen." Yamato nodded sagely at this, arms crossed over his chest.
"He what? No he didn't!" Genma replied, practically sputtering. Kakashi stared unimpressed.
"Wow you're stupid. Anyway, yeah. He had this huge thing for you but you had no interest so I assume he's trying to move on." Kakashi looked at his food as if greatly interested in it while Genma scowled.
"I would have known of he had a crush on me. He never acted like it!" Yamato and Kakashi shared a long glance, Yamato's lips twitching. Genma scowled at them, crossing his arms over his chest.
"What?" He demanded. Yamato and Kakashi nodded to something behind Genma and the brunette turned in time to see Itachi with some other guy sitting at a table. Itachi was perched in his chair, face very close with the other man who was grinning at him. Genma stared for a long moment before facing the other two.
"Is that...does Itachi have a boyfriend?" He asked in dread. Was Itachi seeing someone? Quiet, withdrawn Uchiha Itachi had a boyfriend?
"No, but he does have admirers and sometimes he goes out with them. This particular one is a favorite of his." Yamato hummed. Genma did not like the emphasis on out. The man who was with Itachi leaned forward so their noses were touching. Uchiha Itachi did not like being touched. He would push that loser away. Except that he didn't. Instead he continued to smile, dark eyes hooded and way too sexual for Genma's taste.
"Who is he?" He asked, jerking to look from Kakashi to Yamato. Yamato stole one of Kakashi's pretzels.
"His name's Shikeru. He works in the aviary. Itachi met him there...and you know Itachi has a soft spot for birds...and men who talk about birds." The brunette tapped his glass, thick brows waggling.
Fucking Shikeru what's his face totally kink trapped Itachi's fine ass. The nerve.
The asshole named Shikeru suddenly moved his face and kissed Itachi and Genma nearly shrieked in horror. Kakashi was watching Genma with rapt attention, but Genma was too focused on the Shikeru taint fuck moving his hand down Itachi's thigh. Itachi had been drinking, it was too obvious, but then...if he were that far gone Kakashi would have already intercepted. But even if he was sober, that did not mean Genma would just stand idly by while that bird humping fuck nut was feeling the kid up! Genma stood, ignoring Kakashi's half hearted warning and stalked over towards the pair. Neither had noticed him until he was nearly on top of them. Itachi spotted him, lips pulling into a smile.
"Genma! I didn't realize you were here. This is Shikeru." He motioned to introduce the pair. Genma lifted his eyes to stare at the man. He wasn't anything special. Dark brown hair and greenish brown eyes that some might call hazel but Genma would call shit. He nodded as did Shikeru, neither looked to thrilled but Itachi was still smiling politely.
Itachi smiled slightly at Genma, head tilting back so he could study him.
"You look upset." He observed and Genma sputtered.
"I am! You can do better than some asshole." Genma indicated to where said asshole had wandered off to. Itachi's smile was slow, but quite nearly teasing and his eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Genma.
"That's hardly your place to comment." He pointed out and Genma sighed. Yamato had said Itachi was gaining attention and flirting. That probably meant he was having sex by this point. Itachi was now at the age and Genma did not like it.
"Ita, you know none of these guys are even worth your time much less your bed." He was using the old nickname that he had used when Itachi was younger. Itachi licked his lips, dark eyes focused on Genma and all signs of his previous drunkeness were now gone. Now there was an intense clarity in his dark eyes.
"Then who would be worthy of my bed Genma?" He asked, leaning forward to rest his chin in the palm of his hand.
"Not him." Genma replied sullenly and Itachi slowly stood, hands on hips.
"So...someone like you?" He questioned with a furrow of his brows and Genma nodded without a second thought.
"Yes!" Genma suddenly moved forward to hook his arm around Itachi's hips and drag him into a sudden and deep kiss. Itachi's hands swooped up to grasp Genma's face to keep them together. In the background they could hear yells and catcalls, but neither paid any attention to it. Their tongues fought for dominance and Genma's hand moved to grip Itachi's ass. Itachi laughed into the kiss, nipping at Genma's bottom lip. When they finally pulled back, both were practically panting for air and Genma offered the Uchiha a sly grin.
"I didn't know you were such a good kisser." He commented and Itachi smiled.
"I have many hidden talents it seems." He replied, thumb stroking over the man's cheek.
"We shouldn't put that talent to waste then." Genma's voice had turned husky and he moved in to kiss Itachi again, but the Uchiha turned his head slightly.
"I'm not interested in being another fling." Itachi murmured against Genma's lips.
"Who said anything about a fling?" Genma asked, lips gliding over Itachi's cheek. "I want the real thing. Hand holding. kissing, domesticity and all the sex you can imagine." Between each word, Genma was kissing the Uchiha. Itachi would normally never show such affection in public, but he didn't care. All that mattered was that Genma was kissing him.
"So we're dating?" He asked and Genma chuckled again, kissing Itachi's forehead. Anko was in the bar now, with how her wolf whistling was louder than anyone else's, but neither looked up. Genma reached out and brushed a strand of dark hair behind Itachi's ear.
"Yeah, if you'd like?" He murmured softly and Itachi offered him another shy smile.
"I would...I would like that very much." Itachi finally replied and Genma beamed, warm brown eyes lighting up.
"So...boyfriends?" He prompted and Itachi's eyes widened in surprise. He had certainly not expected Genma to want to be his boyfriend...this was a good sign and it made the Uchiha's heart flutter.
"Boyfriends." Itachi confirmed. Before either could speak again, someone threw a sandal at Genma's head. Genma swore softly and kicked the sandal away as if it were a great offense. Itachi could see Shikeru stomping off like a troll.
"Genma, you fuck! Stop flirting with your boyfriend and buy us a round!" Aoba's voice cut across the bar and Genma looked up, shooting the man a scowl while Anko waved frantically.
"I can-" Genma began, tuning back to Itachi who waved him off.
"No it's fine," Itachi replied with a tilt of his head. He was still blushing furiously about his boyfriend, and needed a moment. "We can meet up later, at the bridge perhaps?" He offered and Genma grinned again nodding before pressing his lips to Itachi's cheek.
"Sounds great. I'm going to kick their asses. I'll see you later?"
"See you." Itachi confirmed and Genma beamed at him. Genma moved to make fun of Aoba, Itachi approached the table Yamato and Kakashi sat at and the two slowly smiled at him. Itachi looked from one man to the other, face devoid of emotion. Then he reached into the knapsack on his hip.
"Gentlemen, I thank you for your assistance." Itachi hummed, pushing the new copy of Icha Icha forward to the pair. Yamato's hands darted forward to drag the book closer while Kakashi leaned back in his chair, legs crossed and hands resting behind his head as he studied Itachi.
"Always here to assist you, Itachi. Also, you're absolutely diabolical. You make your Senpai so proud."
"I learn from the best." Itachi replied, offering the man an amused smile while Kakashi pressed his hand to his heart, eyes watering. Itachi offered them a parting smile before turning on his heel and practically sashaying out of the bar. Uchiha's were quite devious when they wished to be.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Ninety: Chatter ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Uchiha Shisui, Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
“Oh, come on Sasuke-kun. When was the last time you just...spent some time with everyone?”
“If I answer that honestly, will it be enough to dissuade you of trying to persuade me that this is a good idea?”
Cheeks puff as Hinata gives him a childish pout.
Turning to consider her from his work locker, Sasuke stares blankly for a long moment before poking a finger into each of said cheeks, making her blow a raspberry.
“H-hey!”
A hint of a smile curves his lips as he watches her go pink, batting at his hands. “I don’t do well in groups, Hinata. You know that. Spending time with everyone like that won’t be pleasant...it’ll be obnoxious and draining.”
“But Sasuke-kun -!”
“How many times do I have to tell you to just call me Sasuke?” The suffix only serves to remind him of those like Sakura and Ino and all their badgering. While he doesn’t mind Hinata calling him that...it’s just better if she doesn’t.
“But that’s rude -”
“It’s only rude if you’re being too forward,” he insists, turning back around and fetching the rest of his things so he can go home. “And you’re not. We’re friends. You don’t have to address me that way. I’m the last person to care.”
Pale eyes blink, not having an immediate retort.
Sighing, he shuts the door and bows his head. “...if I go...how long will that stave you off from telling me I need to do it again?”
“Hm...a month.”
“That’s it?”
“It’s important to spend time with your friends!”
“Bold of you to assume they’re my friends.”
Another pout begins to bloom, but deflates at his look - he’s going to do it again, isn’t he? “...well, they could be, if you’d let them,” is her soft retort.
For a moment, he stares at the door before turning to take his leave. “...they’d have to want to first.”
“Sasuke -”
“I’ll go. But the moment I get too bored, or annoyed, I’m going home.”
“Oh...okay.” Jogging to catch up, she walks beside him out of the police station and out into the village. “We were going to meet at that yakiniku q place a few blocks from Ichiraku’s!”
“I know the place.”
“Be there at six!”
“Will do.” They split paths eventually, Hinata returning to the Hyūga compound as Sasuke moves instead to the Uchiha lands.
He’s so going to regret this...but at least it will make her happy. Why does he care if she’s happy?
...no reason, really.
But first, he makes his way home. Or...to a degree. Sasuke has had a house built on Uchiha land, a ways from - but still neighbors with - his brother and his family. Shisui, too, has his own abode. But both of them spend more time in the manor than they do in their own homes. It just feels better to be all together after so much time apart. “Tadaima,” Sasuke calls as he enters, removing his shoes.
“Yo!”
One dark eye glances up, brow perking. “You’re home?” he asks his cousin, allowing a tinge of surprise in his tone.
“Yup! Had the day off.”
“Can Kakashi even function without you around?”
“Oh, come now little cousin - do you really think that poorly of your sensei?” Shisui asks, hands on his hips. “Or are you just that impressed with me?”
“Leaning toward the former.”
“Love you, too.”
“Seriously though - you went on shift this morning…?”
“Just a little scheduling snafu - I’ll be back to it tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ve got the house to myself! Itachi’s still at work, and the missus plus kiddos are at a hospital seminar.”
“Huh...well, I’m just gonna change, then I’m heading back out...try not to burn the place down, will you?”
“You wound me, Sasuke.”
Putting on fresh clothes that aren’t so staunch for work, Sasuke gives Shisui a flat farewell before heading back into Konoha proper. Just get it over with, he tells himself. Put up with your classmates for a few hours, then you’ll be in the clear for four whole weeks.
...minus when Naruto comes to bother you, but that’s a given.
When he arrives, everyone else is already there...funny, he knows he’s not late. Talking slows to a stop as he approaches, and it’s then he notices Hinata’s the only one not yet there.
Wonderful.
“Yo, teme!”
Naruto slings an arm around Sasuke’s shoulders, earning a cool glance. “Naruto.”
“We didn’t think ya’d make it! Y’know, given how grumpy and antisocial you are.”
“Hinata invited me.”
Sakura, on her way over, blinks. “...she did?”
“Mm.”
“And...you said yes?” Naruto clarifies.
“...yeah?”
His teammates exchange a look. “...well, okay. She’s not here yet, though. We thought maybe she’d -”
“I-I’m coming!”
Everyone looks up as Hinata jogs to meet them, a bit winded. “S-sorry, my father stopped me!”
“That’s okay, Hinata-chan! C’mon, we better get a few tables before they fill up!”
The place is just becoming busy, but they snag two adjacent tables, randomly split up. Sasuke takes an end seat, plotting his escape with the easiest route possible. Hinata sits opposite him.
Within a matter of moments, things get into full swing. Servers take their orders, bringing the platters of meat and a variety of dipping sauces. Chatter quickly fills the air.
And Sasuke has no interest in any of it.
Sakura and Ino spread village gossip, Tenten clearly trying not to look interested but listening anyway. Kiba, Lee, and Naruto are arguing about...something. He doesn’t even care to listen. Shino and Neji quietly converse, Chōji and Shikamaru stuffing their face and nodding off, respectively.
Sasuke just sits and eats, doing his best to tune it all out. Across from him, Hinata does the same, glancing to her teammates or cousin every so often with curious eyes. She doesn’t offer any conversation of her own, just content to listen and occasionally nod.
He doesn’t know how she does it.
The gathering goes well into the evening, night falling and lanterns lighting along the street. And still, they all talk. If anything, it’s only managed to grow in volume and intensity.
He’s starting to get a headache.
Excusing himself with the claim he needs some air, Sasuke makes his way outside, leaning against the building with a heavy sigh. Already he feels ten times more drained than his shift had him earlier in the day.
Maybe it’s time he just sneak away and head home...but he didn’t leave pay for his share…
“Sasuke…?”
Glancing over, he finds Hinata...of course. “Hey.”
“Are you all right?”
“Yeah, just...needed a breather. Literally, and figuratively.”
She takes to leaning next to him, hands clasped at her front and watching passersby. “...do you want to go home?”
“Honestly? Yeah. I’m not getting anything out of this...I bet no one would even notice.”
“I would.”
Another glance. “...I know you would. No one else in there needs me.”
“That’s not true!”
“Sure it is. No one in there gave a rat’s ass about me except my team...but now that I’m back, they want nothing to do with me. Not after all I did. They know now I’m not the boy I was before I left. And even that boy, to them, was a stranger...they only thought they knew him.”
Hinata looks to him somberly. “...well...how are they supposed to get to know the new you...if you never let them?”
“...maybe I don’t want them do. I don’t need them to.”
“Everyone needs people to talk to, Sasuke.”
He finally notices she’s dropped the honorific.
“I know this isn’t your ideal scenario...but I’m glad you came. And they’ll remember that you did. One step at a time, ne…?”
The Uchiha exhales softly. “...maybe.”
“Well...thank you for coming. I appreciate that you did.” Hinata manages a hint of a smile.
“I only did because you asked me to. Anyone else, I would have told no.”
For some reason that makes her jolt in surprise.
“...what? You’re the one I tolerate best. That’s all.”
There’s a blink...and then she laughs softly into a hand, only shaking her head as he asks her what’s so funny.
“Hn…”
Maybe this type of chatter isn’t so bad.
It's v late so I'll be brief OTL      Sasuke isn't too fond of hanging out with his year for...a good long while after returning to Konoha, and honestly? Who can blame him? His team looks at him funny now, and everyone else is wary.      But at least he has Hinata: she doesn't judge, doesn't hold a grudge...she's just THERE.      And it's clear he doesn't mind :3c      But yeah, that's all for tonight...sorry this might be a lil lackluster, I'm v tired and had a long day, so little time to write. But! Thank you for reading!

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Sixteen: Renovate ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life ] [ AO3 Link ]
“Well...here we are.” Turning the key, Sasuke lets the engine come to a standstill, the hum of the car now quiet. Dark eyes gaze through the windshield at the imposing building before them.
It almost seems to stare back.
“...this is it…?”
“Mhm. It’s been…” How long has it been…? “...well, a long time. Too long. But after they died...we moved into the city with our aunt and cousin. So this place sat empty from then on.”
The pair sit in silence for a moment before Sasuke unbuckles his seatbelt. “Well...should we get out and look around…?”
Hinata nods, doing the same. Doors click to open and then shut as they leave the vehicle behind. “So this is where you grew up…?”
“Partially. I was seven when our parents died. Almost eight. I have quite a few memories here, but just as many - if not more - with my aunt and her son.”
She gives a thoughtful hum, staring up at the old house with pale, inquisitive eyes. “...so why now?”
“Huh?”
“Why come back here now? Did...something happen?”
“Not really. It’s just been on my mind lately.”
“Your brother doesn’t want it…?”
“Nah, he’s happy where he’s at. Besides, he has a steady job where they’re living now. And with two kids already, he’s not fond of the idea of packing everybody up and moving.”
“Ah, that’s a good point. This place is so big...do you really need that much room…?”
“Well...we might need this much room.”
Her gaze snaps to him. “...I…?”
“C’mon, Hinata.” Sasuke manages a soft yet teasing smile. “It’s gonna happen one of these days, right? We’ve been dating almost four years now...think it might be time to move in together?”
“But this place is...is huge! And -!”
“I’m not moving in tomorrow - it’s gonna need a lot of work before anyone can live in it. It’s been sitting empty for over a decade now. Think of it more like...my eventual forever home. Work on it bit by bit, and by the time I’m ready to settle down...it’ll be here. All spruced up and ready to be lived in again.”
Hinata stares at him, clearly a bit taken aback. “I...I g-guess that makes sense…” Her gaze then averts, flushing a light pink. “And you...you really see me here with you…? When that happens?”
“Well, yeah. I mean, true: we’re each the other’s first long-term relationship, but...doesn’t that kinda hint that maybe we made good choices?”
“...I guess so. It just seems, um...far in the future.”
“...do you not want -?”
“N-no! That’s - that’s not what I mean!” Hinata quickly backtracks, waving desperate hands. “I just…! I guess I...just haven’t thought that far ahead…”
“Well one of us has to,” he rebukes, but not without a grin as she pouts at him. “C’mon, I’ll give you a tour.”
Taking out a keyring his aunt gave him, Sasuke unlocks the front door. The inside is bare: any and all furniture was sold after his aunt moved them out. Flicking a light switch does nothing, which...he honestly predicted. “Guess we’ll have to settle with opening curtains, huh?”
The house is old, modeled after styles of a bygone era. Paper screens and sliding doors, tatami mats and big beams. And rooms upon rooms upon rooms.  Many of the screens are discolored, a few torn...doors askew from their tracks, and a few tatami mats have holes in them. Whether rotten or mouse-chewed, he’s not sure. Note one: hire an exterminator, just in case.
“Watch your step.”
As they walk, Sasuke can’t help but see ghosts on memories play out: furniture reappears in his mind’s eye, his brother and parents walking around as though part of a shaky film reel. Warm Summer light makes the walls shine gold and the air smell sweet.
For a moment, he finds himself immersed in the past.
“...Sasuke…?”
A blink, and it’s gone. “...sorry. Just, uh...remembering.”
They continue on, Sasuke pointing out the purpose of each room. “This one was mine.” A door opens to a small, quaint bedroom. “Kinda undersized now though, huh?”
“A little, yes,” she can’t help but agree with a light laugh.
The back door opens into an overgrown, Winter-sleeping garden. Ice clings to the banks of an ornamental stream.
“This place is amazing...and yet so sad…”
“Yeah...it’s been in the family for generations.” A hand gestures. “Think you could work your magic out here, miss botanist?”
Hinata gives him a look, stepping out into the gravel. “...I can see it was once very beautiful.”
“Both my mom and her sister were avid gardeners. Whenever she’d come visit, this is where they’d be without fail. Even in the Winter. Itachi, Shisui and I played out here all the time.”
More flickering visions of times long past bring the gardens back to life. Green and full, they were the perfect places to play hide and seek, or make believe of any kind. They were little samurai and ninja back then, fighting epic battles with paper shuriken and bamboo rod swords. Mikoto and Manami were the empresses in needing of defending. It was so long ago, and yet he can still see it all so clearly…
Kāsan…
“Oh, look!”
Snapping back to attention, Sasuke follows to where Hinata’s dug into a thicket of weeds. “See that? It’s a lily! A type that blooms in the Winter! Poor thing’s being choked out…” She starts pulling at the overgrowth, mouth set in a determined line.
“Guess I’ll leave renovating the gardens to you, huh?”
“I certainly wouldn’t mind. My mother loved flowers, too...her name even referred to them. I think that’s where I got it from.”
“I wouldn’t doubt it.”
Eventually, the short Winter day begins to darken, and Sasuke takes them back inside. “Think we better button things up.” A flashlight on his keyring clicks on.
“At least no vandals have found it.”
“Yeah, lucky. Then again it’s so off the main road, it’s a bit easy to miss.”
“Hopefully no one see us leAHH!”
Spinning around, Sasuke startles as Hinata cries out. Her foot’s gone straight through a tatami mat.
“H-help!” she laughs, holding out a hand.
“How did that not happen the first time?!”
“I don’t know!”
It’s an easy lift to free her, the pair moving closer to the walls until they reach the front door. “Okay…! I...I think that’s enough adventure for one day…!”
“You didn’t twist your ankle, did you?”
“No, no - I’m fine. It just...scared me! I w-wasn’t expecting it!”
Sasuke still looks to her critically, waiting for a stumble as an excuse to just haul her to the car himself. But they make it out without further incident, locking the door and gate back up before retreating to the vehicle.
“...well…?”
“It’s...definitely in need of some work. But I can see all the old charm to it...and the home it used to be.”
“Think you could stand to live there for the rest of your life when the time comes?”
“So long as I don’t go sinking through any more floors,” she replies with a laugh.
“...are you sure…?”
Hinata slowly sobers. “...yes. Why are you so...adamant about it…?”
Well, this isn’t exactly how he planned to do this, but… Sasuke reaches into a pocket, fiddling for a moment before pulling out a box.
Hinata’s eyes go round as the moon.
“...because I want it - and everything else in my life - to be yours, too. Including me. For all time.” There’s a small click as he opens the ring box. “Hyūga Hinata...will you marry me…?”
Staring at the piece of jewelry for a long moment, Hinata then launches across the car to embrace him as best she can in the confined space. “Yes! Y-yes, a thousand times yet!”
Dark eyes pinch shut, taking a moment to reel in the full feeling in his chest.
“...then we better get started.”
PHEW, this is a little on the late side, but I had a long day in town today, and then things to take care of this evening! But it's not midnight yet here, so...yay!      I love love love this idea, and it came really easily to me, thankfully. Some prompts aren't that kind, haha! I want to see Sasuke reclaim his childhood home, and fill it back up with lots of SasuHina babies, heh heh~      Anywho, I've got lots still to write tonight so I'll leave it there - thanks so much for reading!
