I think quite often of the optional little dialogue tree that one can get about Yaevinn in TW2 with an imported save if one sides with Iorveth, and particularly of just how Iorveth describes Yaevinn
The dialogue prompt "I once knew another Scoia'tael - Yaevinn." will lead to the following exchange:
Tumblr media
GERALT: I once met another Scoia'tael leader.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IORVETH: Yaevinn. I knew him. He had beautiful dreams and desperately wanted me to share them. Asked the same of you, I heard.
Tumblr media
GERALT: You know a lot about me.
Tumblr media
IORVETH: I try to know as much as I can - about everyone.
They'll elaborate a little further in this dialogue about how they both agree with Yaevinn's reasons and the fact that Yaevinn "saw combat and killing as poetry" which Iorveth deems unrealistic because "war is prose, with no place for beauty" (how poetic).
But the interesting part to me is the statement that Yaevinn had "beautiful dreams" and how he was this grand idealist, because this seems to be in contradiction with Yaevinn's characterisation. In his novel appearance, he argues against Toruviel's idealism as he proposes shooting the unarmed messenger. In TW1, Geralt refers to him in his journal as being "disillusioned", as well as being "a cynic and a pragmatist", neither of which seem to hold with Iorveth's account. While this can be credited to the fact that it's possible that Iorveth's past-tense statement of "I knew him" means that he hasn't seen Yaevinn in some time rather than, or at least in addition to, the implied death. He has perhaps not seen him since the Second Northern War, where they were both in the Vrihedd brigade, and Yaevinn could have grown more cynical since the Scoia'tael were betrayed by Dol Blathanna, his earliest characterisation is that of the novel canon, and he does not present a particular idealism that would reflect the notion that he is a dreamer.
It can be taken as a choice of characterisation, because for all that Yaevinn is disillusioned, he does have his hopes and desires for the future and his plans at Vizima, just as Iorveth has his hopes for Saskia and Vergen. He has these dreams, even if he tenders them close to his chest and puts the practical aspects first before he allows himself to have this hope. And I think that is a really interesting interpretation, to have this juxtaposition, that he can be both disillusioned and a dreamer, and that he chose a scant few, Iorveth, and then Geralt, to share in those precious dreams.
The notion of Yaevinn having these "beautiful dreams" is also very pertinent to his TW1 characterisation, I think, because there are optional dialogues in which Yaevinn tells the accounts of how he once lived among humans and believed in assimilation, that the humans would accept the elves if given enough time, only to be persecuted and harassed at length until he finally accepted that there was no place for him there, that there could be no assimilation, only annihilation. And even though he knows it is a hopeless fight, he still proceeds onward. He knows his people are dying, and he knows that if they do not act quickly, they will be well and truly doomed to extinction, but he is still trying to fight. That is, in and of itself, an expression of a dream for a better future, even if he thinks it hopeless, or, as Iorveth criticises, unrealistic.
Serious character analysis aside, I think that the absolute funniest interpretation of this dialogue is that it is not to be taken literally about Yaevinn's idealism or lack thereof, but rather as a euphemism -- taking "beautiful dreams" as a euphemism for queer romantic interest; hence "he had beautiful dreams and desperately wanted me to share them" is something like "he likes men and asked me to be his lover", "I hear he asked the same of you" thenceforth meaning something like "were you also his lover/do you also like men" (and the response "you know a lot about me" therefore indicating that he is correct in his judgement). There's like a whole rebellion going on but Iorveth is just checking out his options, y'know.

Hey babe. My daughter simply loves Giyuu. I'm not into him, but really really respect his integrity and judgement when it comes to the Kamado siblings. Would you say Giyuu is more thoughtful and calm or sad and depressed?
Hi hi! He's both - let us delve a little into it.
No one starts off cold and closed off like Giyuu appears when we first encounter him. He used to be a happy child, and had a family (his sister and Sabito as his brother-in-arms, namely).
Because of both of these losses, he has been plagued with thoughts of inferiority (so deep-rooted that he is known to say he is "not like you guys" = I do not deserve to be a Hashira like the others). He thinks about his losses and death every day, he thinks about how he would be better off dead, rather than his close ones, he thinks about his failures, and I believe he struggles to get up from bed every day or to face his reflection.
The thing that keeps him going is his resolve - to avenge his loss, to defend other humans so they don't have to live through what he did. Giyuu is very much driven by his responsibility towards others, rather than any thought about himself. (This is also seen in Kimetsu Gakuen: "I'm not afraid to take on less liked roles to fulfill my duty.")
He keeps calm, because for one he doesn't have the energy to spare to get angry (common in depressed people, and also with notable exception to Kamado sibling situation at the start, which hits way too close to home for him) and for the other because it's his nature.
He truly is the representation of water - but calm surface doesn't mean there isn't a strong current underneath it.
The main 4 adjectives I would use for him: calm, depressed, thoughtful, responsible.

Id like to offer a headcannon, if I may: ace having really ticklish ears/neck but also really ticklish ribs/sides, so he's forced to protect one or the other if a ler decides to be mean and go for both/switches between them lol
I SAW ACE IN MY INBOX AND RAAANNN TO THIS OH MY GOSH. YES YES YES ABSOLUTELY!!
I knooowww bro already HATES that he’s ticklish but the fact he’s so damn ticklish in two spots that are so out in the open must drive him nuts!! Especially since, yeah, he wouldn’t be able to protect both spots at once and if someone goes for both he’s DEAD
Tumblr media
IM. INSANE I LOVE HIM SM. Adding onto this Ace is DEFINITELY a squirmer. Kicking, flailing, bucking around, the whoolleee nine yards when someone manages to get him down. But the second you hit a spot like his ribs he just lets it happen since he can’t focus on getting away and the tickles at the same time! He switches to cursing out whoever’s wrecking him 😭🙌🏾

Pretty please can you talk about your Spring trap.. pretty please Can we hear about the ugly rabbit... Pretty please can we beat him up with fire and axes...
ooog yea...
so basically- a month in, his chest had that restless feeling (for example, the feeling i get when im bracing for a tic). he felt shit moving in there, so, logically, he used the axe to peel it open :)
he coughs and shambles and is in pure agony all the time. he's so cold too.
if he met with henry, he'd probably force him to hold his fleshy, rotten face to feel some sort of warmth-
he also loves singing still.
he'll sing while hunting mike down... probably something from Mary's old records...
also. he can hear the ghosts. they don't stop bothering him. he HATES them.
bit of an animal abuse tw under the cut
he also got joy from tormenting critters in the saferoom. crushing maggots in his paws, throwing rats across the room... dissecting them, he liked feeling powerful. however, there were these rats he named after his childen... he let those ones crawl on him.

SOOO I'm not sure if you answer asks like this, but I was wondering, how in your opinion Tevis ended up in Andal's pack? Also, how did he know Tallulah? Got curious after reading all those bits here and there 👀
I sure do! I also have my DMs open for just about everything as well, including lore dumps!
Ok so...
puts on my Out Of My Ass Headcanons Hat
I get the feeling that, with Cayde calling Tevis the most experienced Nightstalker they got and Ghost also calling him a cussed old guy, and that's back in D1, so I'm willing to bet he's at the very least older than Cayde, who wasn't even around to see the Iron Lords or fight in Six Fronts (and also older than Quantis Rhee, that other Nightstalker we've never seen and I NEED TO MEET HER)
So it's very possible he's been around to see the entire procession of Hunter Vanguards, since most/all of them... probably didn't hold the seat for too long
If he was around before Six Fronts, that means he could have met Tallulah and Caliban while they were both still on the field
And I think the proper way Hunters met during the time before the Vanguard was established properly and standardised strikes getting set up, was when their kills/loot was stolen by another Hunter. I think it went something along the lines of Tevis tailing some Fallen crew for either a kill or to steal loot and Tallulah (and/or Caliban, I think those two are absolutely joined at the hip) probably butted in and blew it all sky-high. And it ended up with them arguing and fighting their way through Shit™️ From there on, I guess it would have been a case of "You're competent and I got a good lead but need people, you in?" and... they just stuck around each other. (I have a half-finished story about this actually because I can't help myself)
Now Andal, considering he got picked up by Tallulah the moment he set foot in the Tower, might have heard about Tevis from Tallulah herself. And, I guess the rest is history... 😂

I now have a FFXIV WoL OC and his name is Aristaux Fortinaut (may change it to Aristaux de Fortinaut while I go through Heavensward and learn more about Ishgard) and he is a massive asshole who serves cunt
WHM/AST main
Info below cut
So obviously I haven't finished HW but so far his lore is that
Aristaux is an Ishgardian who studied Ishgardian astrology at the Astrologicum, but due to him struggling to grasp it he was regularly looked down upon and shunned as a result. His parents having high expectations for him constantly only added salt to his wound. This made him quit astrology and made him want to travel to Gridania to learn conjury, thus beginning his life as an adventurer.
Unlike some of my OCs who are good-hearted with some questionable behaviors, Aristaux is just straight up an asshole He WILL play "Who lives" as a healer and he uses it to blackmail people fhdjsks. He also has history of tanking and just watching the monsters nearly kill every member before going in and tanking them all because his party members didn't "properly respect" him.
His shitty behavior is just him wanting to feel useful and valued even if it's fake/forced upon people. By being good at what he does, he wants to ensure that people around him have no choice but to depend on him.
Learning that he's a WoL makes him WORSE but the whole assassination of Nanamo Ul Namo fucks him up big time mentally. Returning to Ishgard after that whole debacle makes his family scorn him by saying he shouldn't have bothered leaving since what could he do? What difference to the world could he make?
He visits the Astrologicum once again and by running into Jannequinard he begins studying Sharlayan astrology with Leveva as well and he learns that he has a talent in Sharlayan astrology. This begins to feed into his ego of being so good at something he needs to be relied upon HSDKJF
Basically tl;dr he has a god/superiority complex to hide his insecurities.
Astrologian
White Mage
Sage
Paladin
Dark Knight
Machinist (Tentative)
Will develop him more as I play the game more but someone please fix him lmao

Kaz knows that weakness can be weaponized.
Show an obvious weakness, and people don’t look for the ones under the surface. They see his cane and think they know everything. It keeps him safe from people prying for more.
Show them his cane, his bad leg, something he can manage, and they stop looking for the weakness that could truly cause him harm.
