#codacheetah#my art#pokemon#pkmn#vulpix#fennekin#ok so#idk preface i'm not a modern pokemon design hater this is not hater art#but i do think. the style shift progression of pokemon has been fascinating to watch.#a lot of early pokemon particularly the first mmmmm two generations were relatively sensible proportionally#a lot of pokemon that feel like animals but to the left.#and as time has worn on pokemon i think have kind of shifted away from 'balanced' design towards 'cartoon' design#like fennekin. ridiculously huge head with big huge eyes and dramatic fur tufts and tiny little neck and body#compare to vulpix which is also a ridiculous chibi animal mind you. but its proportions are more grounded in reality#head that's only Mildly too big for its body and smaller eyes and visible paws (vs. fennekin's stumps)#i've always felt like fennekin and vulpix is like the kind of microcosm of pokemon designs shifting to be sleeker and more exagerrated#where it's so apparent since they have the same basic design idea#hell you can kind of see it with alolan vulpix. slimmer neck smaller body bigger eyes#this post is kind of meaningless i've just been thinking abt it lately#pokemon no longer has a consistent artstyle. there are many galarian and paldean pokemon that i dont think ever would have made it in rby#and many early gen pokemon look visibly different to the new because they are more simplistic and understated#this is not a bad thing it is just a Thing. it's the natural growth of a franchise where they have to reach further with ideas and designs#with each generation. because there's 1000 of these fuckers. we are long past Basic Fox and Basic Bird and Basic Bug#every pokemon has to be uniquely charismatic and recognizable when they have so much competition#anyways all this to say i think vulpix and fennekin look ridiculous standing next to each other but in a vacuum? both designs are nice

Okay now for one of the actual reasons why I tried out a new cheeb style:
Asking bc of commission and shop related stuff LOL I have a lot of charms sketched out but only a few fully colored, so I was curious to see if one chibi style was more preferred than the other <3

Got really into drawing my ocs as anime bugs
#arts#ocs#I have no idea how else to tag this vn style? chibi? pc98? I mean I guess…#this was brought on by me drawing the part in my huge self indulgent Eisei and Tamara comic where he talks about his favourite childhood#anime for a reeeally long time#she’s not actually from this era of anime more like 2018/19 iirc#well her reboot she was initially from the 70s so maybe I’ll get really into 70s anime for a second#and then I’ve been getting really into trying to play vns from the 80s and 90s like really influential ones but I don’t know how to actually#get the English versions so I just think about it for a realllly long time#I want to play tokimeki memorial… but apparently the snes version isn’t really like the full release#and I can’t figure out how to get the actual English patch to work#and also I was listening to magical cure love shot for a while and wow the Japanese comments were right this is heisei era as fuck#I actually don’t draw a lot or as much as I used to and I do feel sad about that so I’m very glad this got me to draw even if for two days#I want to master all the art styles that I saw when I was a wee baby in the internet#I’ve got anime down#and the flipnote style kind of I just need to get good at emo/scene art

also i have drawn many cute little guys to make into stickers to give people at fanexpo and if the adhesive paper Made for printers i ordered doesnt work with the librarys printer or it smudges and i have to Hand Laminate And Cut Out a hundred little guys AGAIN i will be insane
#i mean 7 out of 8 of them are meant for specific people so i'll only be printing 1 of those. Drawing S/I’s face is generally rather fast (for me… which is still a long time) but Byakuya’s is a 3-hour long journey of minor tweaks and getting space and form right.
I think it comes from a place of converting a drawn character (that uses rather simple forms) into something closer to realism. I still want it to clearly resemble him while still accurately judging features he’d have. I’m sure a lot of artists out there can relate to that!
I definitely think I’ve improved over the years! References and looking at some guides have really helped me. I still don’t know if I draw him right, but I’m open to feedback to take into consideration moving forward.
#(obviously haven’t drawn his glasses yet as I get his face right first - then draw the glasses)#I have no clue how the fandom draws him anymore because I’m not a part of it… but 50% - perhaps more - looked off to the charcater#tbf he is a REALLY hard to draw character and a lot of it is due to his hair and how it frames his face#when I’m using my chibi style I’m not so pedantic AT ALL - it really comes through in my full art first and foremost where I’m trying
