Dungeon Meshi Season 1, Episode 3 Review
I think it was fantastic, and like the other episodes my complaints are all so minor, they're basically nitpicks. Spoilers below!
The Japanese subtitles are still kinda bad, when you watch the English dub afterwards it somehow manages to better convey the same information without leaving anything out. Japanese performances are fantastic but yeah the subtitles really suck a lot of the life out of them. There's some gems in the dub performance, like Chilchuck saying "Sword, please" to Laios instead of "can I borrow your sword" or something more elaborate.
Everything that was good about the original manga chapters is in this episode, and this was one of the early chapters that hooked me and my spouse into Dungeon Meshi - seeing how Laios figured out the living armor and how he defeated it was something really cool and thoughtful that stood out from other media to us. It was clever and novel and went into monsters and speculative biology in a way that we both adored. This episode is also the one that really foreshadows the rest of the series and it's themes. If something is alive, it desires something, and if you can figure out what it desires you can find a way to defeat it. If something is alive, you can kill it, and if you can kill it you can eat it.
All of the fight scenes in this episode are incredible, and there's tons of fun camera shots and interesting choices being made. Love the bit where Marcille catches a helmet in the loop of her staff. Also loved the bit where she caught Laios' head in the loop of her staff and shook him around angrily. They found ways to include information from the extra monster tidbits into the main narrative, which is fantastic! I'm hoping they'll be able to do this for the rest of the anime as well, because there's a LOT of vital information and funny jokes in the tidbits that enhance the story.
So nice to finally have our first Senshi panty shot and know that they'll at least give us some of those.
Though the animation is spectacular, there is a noticeable style shift between the first two episodes and 3. They obviously have some very talented animators working on this episode (the suits of armor are all rock solid, detailed, and move in fantastic ways) but they are NOT really good at drawing the human characters on-model and it shows. It's not awful but it is noticeable. I'm glad they at least were able to keep it consistent, the characters look that way through the whole episode and don't switch back and forth between individual scenes. That would have been a lot more distracting. Pet peeve, I hated the gag with the egg sack flying through cosmic space to show Laios had figured out the secret of the armor. I didn't think it was that funny, and I felt it interrupted the flow of the already very exciting and tense fight scene. Just the memory sequence being drawn in such a crazy loose style was enough for me! And the style of it flying through the cosmos and everything just felt very out of place and modern. Oh, and Laios says "oh my god" at one point in the dub, which also annoys me, but I think is better than "jeez" since a pagan could theoretically say "oh my god."
But overall a fantastic episode and it gives me a lot of hope for the rest of the series. I was worried that they were going to compress the story too much and try to fit 4 chapters into this episode, because of how they put 3 chapters into episode 2, but they gave this 2-chapter story room to breathe, which it very much needed. Can't wait for next week! I think we'll get the golem story as well as the orcs.

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 - 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐬 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤
𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭 : Heyy I wanted to request something for Regulus Black with the prompts 5 and 30 if that’s okay😊 thank you in advance 🤍
“I’d do anything for you.”
“I always sleep best when you’re next to me.”
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: Phew! This turned out far more angsty than I anticipated, but I hope you all still enjoy it!
Tumblr media
Regulus Black was an intoxication, and addiction. Every second you spent with him, were minutes craving him when you were apart. His very soul was beautiful, you had told him once.
Structured cheekbones, piercing yet soft grey eyes,  sharp jawline that you trailed your fingers over, long black hair which had been cut short the summer Sirius had left home. It was no wonder that you loved him as much as you did.
"I'll have to go, soon." You murmured quietly to the drowsy boy you were curled up against.
Regulus' arms tightened around your waist a little, letting out a groan of disappointment. These were your stolen moments, your sweet moments that no-one else got to see, hidden away in the Slytherin dormitories, curled up in his tiny four poster bed.
"Stay." He whispered a plea. You turned, looking at his face, placing a hand against his cheek.
"James will kill me if I don't give him his map back tonight. They have some prank planned."
You referred to your brother, a year ahead of the both of you in school. Though he was Head Boy, now, and dating Lily Evans, he still couldn't seem to resist his pranks.
"I better not wake up with red hair again." Regulus murmured against your hair, as messy as your brothers.
You giggled against his chest.
"You were a beautiful red head." You grinned, pushing yourself up into a sitting position, stretching with a yawn, grabbing the map and cloak you had discarded for Regulus' touch.
"Just stay for a while longer." He whispered. "I always sleep best when you're next to me."
He was only vulnerable to you, wearing cold, indifferent mask with everyone else. You occasionally wondered why that was, why he had chosen you of all people to love, when you were so close to the brother that he hated.
He told you that you brought out the good man in him.
You shot him a look, running your fingers through his soft hair, that always smelt faintly of the outdoors and slightly of sweat from hours spent flying around the Quidditch pitch. Regulus always craved to be something better, with everything that he did.
"James may be oblivious sometimes, but even he is going to realise that I'm not just studying after hours in the library soon enough." You grinned.
The relationship between Regulus and yourself had been kept strictly in secret for months, if not years. Sometimes, when you saw each other in the schools halls or the Great Hall, caught one another eyes, you wished that you could wrap your arms around his tired form, link your hands together.
That could never happen.
You were the epitome of everything he was supposed to hate, and he you. You weren't supposed to fall for a Slytherin, and you weren't supposed to fall for someone such as Regulus Black, who, everyone thought, was on the 'wrong path'. He certainly wasn't supposed to fall for a bloodtraitor, one in the family who had stolen away his brother to boot.
"One day, we won't have to sneak around." He spoke hopefully, a shine gleaming in his eyes as he thought of the future. "One day, everyone will know that you're mine."
The two of you liked to live in a world of imagination, of better times that you hoped would one day come. As the world around the two of you grew more unsettled every year, you couldn't see the vision as clearly anymore.
"We'll never have to leave each other. I'll never have to leave." You crooned at him, repeating the words you both knew so well.
His hands, larger than your own, cradled your face.
"Things will be different." He promised.
But he was Regulus Black. And you were you.
"And what of your family?" You spoke quietly, smiling disappearing into a small frown. "How could you tell them?"
He smiled his crooked smile.
"I'd do anything for you, Y/N Potter."
You let yourself smile again, at his proclamation, brushing your lips against his, letting the map fall from your fingers.
Your brother could wait for a little while longer.
For a time more, the two of you could live in your little fantasy.
--------------
His eyes had lost the glimmer in them that you were used to, as he gazed at you, emptily, helplessly. His arm was the only thing bridging the gap between the two of you, as you stood on opposite sides of the cold dungeon corridor.
His dark sleeve had been pulled back, exposing his pale forearm - and the marring that had occurred, the snake tattoo that stared up at you with almost a satisfied look in its eyes.
This is what you get when you play with fire, it seemed to say.
The dark ink and the weight it carried had seeped into your soul, as you stood in the dungeon corridor, staring at it. Your lips trembled, back pressed against the damp stone wall.
"Why?" Tears were welling in your eyes, though  they never left the poison engraved into his skin. "Oh Merlin, why?"
You were almost unconsciously moving away from him now, backing away like someone would do when confronted with a rabid animal. You hardly registered that you were shaking.
"Please, Y/N, don't..." His voice cracked, trailing of helplessly.
"Don't what, Reg? Don't leave? Do you expect me to just kiss it better for you, pretend everything is alright?"
Anger pulsed through your body, along with the ache of a shattering heart.
"You promised you'd never leave me. You fucking promised."
Veins stood out in his head, and his hair was wild and messy. He was not your Regulus, he was an empty shell.
You gazed at him, openly in disbelief.
"I never factored in that you would join the fucking Dark Lord!"
You screamed at him, revelling in the way your voice echoed in the dim corridor, as your sentence yelled at him again and again.
"I didn't mean..." He was whispering almost at himself, now. As if realising what he had done.
"Do you even care what that bastard man is doing? He is killing people like me, Regulus! Like me, and James, and Lily, and Sirius. He hates James and Lily's baby before it is even born because of its blood. Is that what you think like? Do you think of dirty blood?"
"Please-"
"What have you even become?" You looked at him in disgust, tears dripping off your cheeks. "You disgust me."
"Y/N, please-"
"No." You whispered, wiping at your face , at the tears, furiously. "Whatever this was, whatever we had - it's done. We're done."
"Y/N-"
"Goodbye, Regulus. I hope you can live with the decisions that you've made." You said coldly, turning on your heel.
That night, in the winter months of 1978, would be the last time you ever saw or heard of Regulus Black, for a long time, until you stared blankly down at the Daily Prophet.
Staring at an obituary.
Regulus Black never could learn to live with the decisions he made. And neither could you.

Narcissa’s Secret
Tumblr media
It was a little known fact that Narcissa Malfoy was a skilled legilimens and occlumens, even more so than her sister Bellatrix. It was how she was able to be part of the Death Eater meetings without having a Dark Mark herself. It pained her that she wasn't able to save her son from the fate she was able to avoid. It pained Narcissa that her husband was foolish enough to jump into such a fate head first, damning the rest of his family without so much as consulting them.
She had begging Lucius to let their son choose his own fate, Narcissa would have begging the Dark Lord himself not to do it but it was her husband who insisted on it. It shattered her heart, hearing Draco's pain filled screams echo throughout the Manor.
Her baby boy, forced to be just like those monsters.
Narcissa tried talking Draco into leaving, run off to any corner of the world to get out and start over or even go to Dumbledore's group. In the beginning Draco had scoffed at the idea but the more she pushed, the more she could see him consider it. While he never went out and said it, there's been a definite change in him compared to when she first brought it up all those months ago.
Now she was standing silently, watching as they brought in the Potter boy, one of the Weasley's offspring and the muggleborn girl. Narcissa noticed a shift in Draco that no one else but his mother would catch, she began watching him closely. She tried to hide a smile as he lied about knowing their identity, Draco's ears always turned pink when he lied. It was a tell that she made sure no one else knew about, not even Lucius.
"Take them all to the dungeons...all except for the Mudblood,"
Narcissa could practically feel the anger radiating off of Draco. It confused her why his reaction was so strong, she knew he didn't want anyone to be harmed let alone someone he knew -he wasn't a monster- but he was always going on about how much Draco 'hated' Potter's pet.
Then it clicked.
The change in him, his reaction earlier and his now. They were all connected, it was because of her!
Just to be positive she cast a silent legilimens on the girl while everyone else was distracted. Her mind was very strong, but once Bella had her way..it weakened significantly. Narcissa didn't have to look to see how pained he was when the girl's screams began. Echoing throughout his own home while he could do nothing but stand there.
What Narcissa saw in her mind shocked her beyond belief.
She searched through her memories, looking for anything to do with her son, when she stumbled upon something no one was supposed to find.
It was Draco and Hermione...kissing! As if they'd done it millions of times before. It was the most prominent memory she could find with him in it, and it was only a few months old. But..too soon to be in Hogwarts. Narcissa's mind instantly went to one of the days Voldemort wasn't in Malfoy Manor, he had left the Manor to visit his friends at Zabini Manor. Narcissa had suspected he was leaving something out of his story, but allowed it. Now, she knew what he was really up to.
She went through what seemed like hundreds of other memories, them sitting together on a couch talking, in the Astronomy Tower after curfew watching the stars and laughing with many more. Narcissa has never seen Draco look as happy as he was in these memories. One in particular caught her attention, unlike most others she saw it was more sad than happy. It was in the Astronomy Tower.
"Please Draco, don't go," Hermione begged in a whisper through her tears.
Draco gave her a sad smile, he wanted to oh so badly. "We both know that I need to go, it's what's best for the Order," Draco said.
"You don't have too! It's too dangerous, please. Dumbledore will understand. Don't leave me," Hermione begged, looking at him with glassy eyes.
They stared at each other for a moment, both hearts breaking at what had to be done.
"Hermione, you don't know how much I wish I could stay. I'd never leave your side through all this rubbish, but you heard the Headmaster. The Order needs me to spy on them. If I can earn their trust, if I can prove to Dumbledore and Potter and even bloody Weasley that I've changed. That I can be who you deserve, then I have to do it," Draco said.
"I don't care what Harry and Ron think-" Draco gave her a disbelieving look, "ok yes I do but I'm going to be with you no matter what. If they don't think you're worthy of me then that's their own bloody problem because I know you are and..I love you,"
Draco's eyes snapped to hers, searching for her sincerity before his face broke out in a grin, "I love you too, Granger."
They both kissed and the memory faded.
Narcissa's son was in love with Potter's pet? Hermione Granger? More importantly, he was working as a spy for the Order of the Phoenix?! Part of her was ecstatic, her son found love and took her advice to get out of this life Lucius had lay out for them! Another part, however, was scared. Being a spy, let alone for spying on Voldemort himself, was very dangerous business. If one was spying on the Dumbledore, they wouldn't have the guts to kill them but Voldemort wouldn't think twice about it.
Narcissa's focus was abruptly interrupted by the whole ordeal with Potter and Weasley saving Hermione and escaping with Dobby. She wasn't expecting her ex House Elf to be their savior but as long as they were going someplace safe. Narcissa knew Dobby used to enjoy listening to Draco rant and rave about the Potter boy and his little group. It was plain that he became fascinated, she wasn't sure if he simply didn't understand her son's sarcasm or just read between the lines.
Once the whole ordeal was done she practically dragged Draco into a separate room and cast every silencing charm she knew on it. She rounded on him and she could see he was guarded and..scared? Draco's fists were shaking along with the rest of him, probably trying to gain enough self control not to go after Bella for what she did.
"Would you mind telling me what that was all about?" Narcissa asked him.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I mean with the Granger girl," she said and he set his jaw defensively, "I saw her memories, Draco. I know you switched sides..and I know you love her."
His shoulders dropped slightly but he was still on guard. Just because she knew doesn't mean she wouldn't tell, it pained Narcissa that Draco would even think she would put him in danger like that.
"What's there to tell if you already know everything?" Draco said.
"Well I didn't have quite the time to see everything, and I'd like an explanation," Narcissa said.
“How do I know you won’t go off and tell Father or the Dark Lord himself,” he said.
“Because I’m your mother, Draco,” she said softly, “I would never intentionally put you in any danger if I could prevent it. I love you more than life itself.”
He sighed in defeat, "Hermione, she caught me..in a vulnerable moment. I was overwhelmed by my task and the fact my plans never seemed to work. She offered for me to join their cause, even full immunity for me and you. After all you've said, I've been thinking about it and I accepted. I think it surprised her almost as much as it surprised me," Draco said with a slight laugh remembering, "we went to Dumbledore and he made a plan. It was decided that I was to spy in His ranks and give information back and forth, though only the bare minimum of members knew about my involvement. Me and Hermione began meeting secretly if I received any information and she would keep me updated with anything she was allowed to inform me. As time went on though, it wasn't always about the Order. I fell in love with her and she says she loves me too," he concluded with a warm smile.
"That settles it," Narcissa said sternly. Draco waited anxiously for her next words, "we're getting you out."
"Out? I'm a spy, I can't leave," he said confused.
"The Order already has spies in the Dark Lord's ranks, you don't need to be one of them. I'll even send information if that's what it'll take. You need to be there for your Hermione," she said. Narcissa expected an argument but he sighed and agreed with her.
Only on one condition, she wasn't to act as a spy. 'Too dangerous' he said, the little hypocrite.
They had snuck him out that very night.
Months and months went on without so much as a word from it about Draco. This was good. He was keeping a low profile, it would be dangerous for him to send her anything. But Narcissa couldn't help but worry. What if he hadn't found them? What if something went wrong with Potter or the Weasley boy? What if he got hurt?
So many questions that would have to remain unanswered until it was all over.
The Battle of Hogwarts had taken many lives, including her insane sister Bellatrix. She'd have to thank Mrs. Weasley later, Bella has always caused more harm than good.
Narcissa was especially thankful that when it was all over, her son was still standing and with the Granger girl by his side. Not a perfect ending, she thought, but at least it can still be a happy one.

The rapping of knuckles against the old oak door echoed throughout the potions master's office. Breaking through the thick silence that had engulfed the room, a wave of anxiety washed over Severus Snape.
"Can I not go one day without you bothering me, Miss Dumbledore." Snape complained, trying to hide slight crack of nervousness in his voice.
"Sadly, Severus, it is not your beloved Miss Dumbledore." A thick Bulgarian accent announced.
Admittedly disappointed by the unveiling of his visitor, Severus lowered himself back down into his chair, not willing to make an effort for anyone but his apprentice.
"Why are you here, Igor. You should have learned your lesson by now to leave me alone." He said, rubbing his eyes back into focus and running a hand through his hair lazily.
"I have something you'll want to hear." Karkaroff divulged mysteriously, plopping himself down on the chair across from the professor.
"I do not imagine anything you have to say is of any interest to me."
"Then lucky for you Snape, I won't be the one talking."
Unbothered by the man's deliberate awkwardness, Severus allowed him to ramble on, too exhausted to argue with him.
With a flick of his wand and a small puff off smoke, the space between the two men began to whirl and spin, slowly forming a picture-like image in the air, the scene beginning to unfold. Revealing a staff room full of unusually dressed professors, the focus turned to a small cluster of teachers gathered in the centre of the room. Recognising both Igor Karkaroff and Aria Dumbledore sitting side by side on the old couch, Snape grew suspicious of the man's intentions.
"Why are you showing me this?" Severus asked, unsure of whether he wanted to see what was about to happen.
"Just listen." The Durmstrang headmaster hissed.
~
"How do I feel about Snape?" Aria wondered, the scene enclosing in on her.
"He's... curious. He has the capacity for love and friendship just like the rest of us, yet he chooses to be mean-spirited."
~
"I don't want to hear this." Snape declared, turning his eyes away from the woman.
"You must." Igor demanded.
~
"...he can be mean and arrogant and cruel. And despite it all I try my best to show him kindness, but where does that get me? He calls me out in front of practically the whole school? That was so fucking humiliating, and I'm just supposed to forgive him? I think it's safe to say I'd live a happy life if I were to never see that man again."
~
Severus felt his heart drop in his chest, unable to process what he had just heard. Slowly a sharp ringing in his ears grew louder and louder, deafening him to the scene before him, as well as the reality in which he existed. He refused to believe the woman he cared so much about, the woman who had demanded to be his friend, had lied about everything. Did she truly hate him beneath her annoyingly cheerful demeanour, was it all a façade?
He wanted to insist Karkaroff had fabricated the whole thing, but he knew exactly what spell he had cast, there was no way he could have faked it.
A deep rage grew within the man, an anger he had not felt in a number of decades. Severus Snape prided himself on having a monotone disposition, void of all emotion. But that familiar feeling of being betrayed by someone he trusted brought forward a plethora of pent up emotions, namely anger and frustration.
A wide, devilish grin spread across Karkaroff's face, satisfied by his colleague's reaction.
"You see now what she is truly like, Severus. You see now that she was playing you all along. That girl pretends to be your friend to keep her job, not because she likes you." Igor laughed maliciously. "You and I both know what is coming, and when it does, Dumbledore is prepared to replace you. Even he knows where your true loyalties lie. Do not be fooled into thinking the Dumbledore's are your friends. They use you for their own advantage, but the second you are no longer useful, or you become a threat to them, you'll be taken down by any means necessary."
"You're lying." Snape tried to convince himself, refusing to meet the professors gaze. "You're scared of what he will do to you if he returns. You need an alliance with someone on the inside."
"He has returned, you must feel it just as I do." The ex-deatheater practically screamed.
"I will not be manipulated by you Igor. This changes nothing, the girl was nothing but a distraction."
"We both know that isn't true." He sniggered, attempting once last time to convince Snape. "Do you know what she said to me, the last time I was in this office? She told me she could never be with a man like you, she told me your actions were unforgivable. I can prove that as well if you don't believe me."
"Get out, Igor. Just leave." Severus exhaled, starting to pace slowly behind his desk. He knew Karkaroff was trying to manipulate him, he was not stupid enough to fall for that. But proof does not lie, and the facts remain. Everything he was saying true, there was no denying it.
With a short bow, Igor danced out of the room. Completely satisfied with the havoc he'd reeked. He'd successfully toyed with what little emotions the great dungeon bat had left. And who's to say what can happen when Severus Snape's feelings get hurt?
*
Hoot. Hoot.
The bird bleated as it swooped through the open window.
"Another letter for the pile?" Aria sighed to herself. "Will he ever stop?"
Whoo.
It purred in response.
The witch couldn't help but laugh at the coincidence.
"You know exactly who." She giggled, plucking the envelope from the creatures beak, and throwing it on the ever growing pile.
"I just wish he would give me some time to think, you know?" She asked turning back to the barn owl, only to witness it taking off, disappearing into the distance.
Look at me. I'm talking to a bird. She thought with a roll of her eyes. I need to get some sleep.
Catching a glimpse of herself reflection of the window, Aria decided she needed to freshen herself up with a little pamper time, finishing the day off with a very long and well deserved nap.
Dumping almost a whole bottle of bubble bath into the tub, topping with springs of lavender and dried chamomile, Aria plunged herself deep into the warm water.
Relaxing for approximately 2.5 seconds, the woman flew out of the bath, her naked body sopping with bubbles, dripping puddles of water as she explored her quarters impatiently.
"Why can I never find any of my books when I need them most!" She groaned, shivering from the sudden change in temperature as goose bumps formed all over her arms and legs.
Letting out a single yelp of excitement, Aria grabbed the first book she laid eyes on and dived back into her tub.
"Pride and Prejudice, of course." She mumbled, thinking back to that night Severus visited her quarters.
As she read and her mind wandered, Aria found herself making unconscious comparisons between the infamous, brooding Mr. Darcy, and her stern, yet lovable Potions mentor, Severus Snape. They were both mildly rude and arrogant, determined to never show their true emotions, but deep down it was quite possible that they loved more fiercely than anyone ever could.
Elizabeth Bennet enchanted Darcy mind, body and soul. If only there were someone brave enough to do the same to Professor Snape. Aria thought, as she allowed herself to drift off to sleep in the water.
Hours later a thunderously loud 'Bang' frightened Aria awake.
Although not positively sure of how much later it was, she could be certain a decent sleep was had given the icy temperature of the water.
Aria allowed herself a moment to come to, bracing herself against the cold, her was body aching from the ceramic constraints of the tub.
A series of bangs came this time, chapping very loudly on her chamber door. Who ever it was was clearly extremely impatient, forcing her to hurry herself up.
Wrapping herself in nothing but a white cotton towel, the witch slid her way through her rooms to the door. Clearly she wasn't even awake enough to remember where she was, and that answering her door half naked wasn't exactly professional.
Bang. Bang. BANG.
The knocks reverberated through her body, sending shivers down her spine.
Gingerly she opened the door, revealing a more than pissed off Severus Snape.
"Severus." She yawned. "What's wrong?"
"Don't act dumb with me, girl. I am not falling for this act any longer." He snapped.
"What act, Severus? Why are you here?"
"Just tell me why?" He seethed. "Why did go to so much trouble trying to convince me to be your friend, only to confess to Karkaroff, as well as the rest of the Hogwarts staff, your true feelings. Why couldn't you just leave me alone."
"Severus listen, I think we need to talk about this in private. Please come in."
"So you can try and seduce me again? I don't think so. Jesus, look at the state of you, are you really that desperate to entice me? What's next, showing up to dinner completely naked? You really are just as I thought." The potions master growled, his pitch back eyes looking her up and down.
"Severus stop" Aria begged. "I thought we had moved past all this."
"So did I. But considering you have deemed me as "unforgivable" then there doesn't appear to be much point in trying to redeem myself, does there?"
"But you're only going to make everything worse. Let me explain myself, please."
"There is nothing to explain, I shall be putting in a formal request for the headmaster to employ a separate tutor for your apprenticeship in the morning, so you never have to see me again."
The professor stormed off, just as quickly as he had arrived, achieving exactly what he had come to do; humiliate Aria Dumbledore.
Desperate to apologise for her cruel words, Aria made to follow Severus to his classroom.
Forgetting her attire, or rather lack of, she was soon reminded of it when a crowd of Slytherin students erupted in a fit laughter with its fair share of cat-calls and whistles. Clearly they had emerged from their common room to investigate the noise, but stayed for the show of the two arguing potions professors.
"Nice legs, Miss." One of the older boys called, sending a wink in her direction.
Shit. She mumbled under her breath, rushing back to her quarters to change.
Hair still dripping wet, Aria shoved it into a bun on top of her head and pulled on some shorts and an oversized t-shirt, before hunting down the potions master.
"Severus, open the door." She called, upon initially finding it to be locked.
He didn't even bother to reply.
Fine. She thought. I'll do it myself.
"Alohomora." The lock burst apart, allowing the door to slowly creep open, revealing a dishevelled and distressed professor sitting at his desk.
"Severus, please." She whispered softly, realising he had clearly come down from his short outburst of rage.
"Get out." He commanded, though he didn't make any effort to remove his head from his hands.
"Let's talk about this." The woman pleaded, pulling a chair up next to the man. "Let me explain everything."
Snape stirred from his position the closer she came, until finally he was able to look her in the eye.
"Go on." He droned. His eyes red and blood shot, whether it was from lack of sleep or tears was unclear.
"You know more than anyone that Karkaroff cannot be trusted-"
"Don't try and lie to me, Miss Dumbledore. I saw the whole thing with my own eyes." Snape snapped.
"Will you let me finish. I'm not lying to you, Severus." Aria promised. "I said what I said because I didn't want them to know the truth, Karkaroff especially. I don't know what his problem is but I know he's up to something and it involves you. You really think I'd answer any question he asked me truthfully. You're my friend, Severus, I care about you, and that man is a snake for trying to turn us against each other."
"Why should I believe you. I've barely known you a few months, I've known Igor decades."
"That is precisely why you should believe me. He's not your friend, Severus. If he was he'd be able to see the real you; the man behind the mask." She urged, begging for his trust.
Reaching out her hand to take his, Aria stroked a thumb over the cold and calloused hand of her friend.
"And who might that be?" Severus questioned in return, feeling slightly nervous under her touch, but not enough to want to pull away.
"A man." She stated simply. "Not a beast, as you and many others may presume. A good, and decent man. Perhaps he's a even a little bit scared, of what I'm not entirely sure yet. But I will find out one day, if you'll allow me, that is. Let me be your friend, Severus. Let me see what you hide from everyone else. And I promise, I'll be there for you when it matters most."
Her sweet soft tones encapsulated Severus. He had become so lost in her words and her touch that without realising he found himself falling for her speech wholeheartedly. He even risked settling his remaining hand upon hers, clasping her delicate fist between his palms.
"Well then I suppose an apology is in order. I believe I may have acted rather rash and unprofessional."
"There's really no need. You reacted just as you should have to the things you heard. I would have done the same thing in your circumstance." Aria admitted, removing her hand from his, as she made to stand up. "Though there is one thing you could do to make it up to me." She suggested.
"Dare I even ask?" Severus joked.
"I want to know what Karkaroff's after. Tell me how you know him. Why does he care so much about your life?"
Snape practically laughed in response.
"We may be friends now, Miss Dumbledore, but I'm afraid that information is rather personal. And I am not convinced we are quite at that stage in our friendship, just yet."
"I respect that." She shrugged, knowing he wasn't about to give in that easily. "I suppose that just means we'll have to get to know each other a bit more." She smiled almost ear to ear at the prospect.
*
"What do you have planned for your lesson today, Professor Dumbledore?" Severus queried, finally using the woman's rightful professional title.
"Ooooh 'Professor' now, am I?" She smirked, sashaying in front of her co-worker, balancing a handful of potion ingredients in her arms.
"I suppose that is your given title after all, I might as well start using it."
"Hmmm I'm not sure. I think it make's me sound too much like my grandfather. I'm not sure I could pull of the beard quite as well, what do you think?" She giggled, holding her long hair in front of her chin, imitating the old wizard playfully before clumsily dropping another dozen bottles on the table.
Severus tried his hardest to conceal his smile, busying himself with paper work, but however hard he tried he could not hide it from Aria. Every so often she managed to catch him off guard, with a silly joke, or a quick witted comment, in those rare times he allowed himself a glimmer of emotion she always managed to notice. Most of the time Severus found himself smiling at the woman for no reason other than she was simply smiling too.
Finally turning her attention away from the potions master, Aria finished setting up her table full of small bottles and vials.
"We're going to play a game." She announced cheerfully spinning on her heel.
"A game?" Severus asked, unable to stop himself turning his nose up at her idea.
"Yes. It's like a test, but more fun." She persuaded, sensing his judgement.
"And what, might I ask, is wrong with a traditional test."  He queried bitterly.
"The students need motivation, Severus. The word 'test' makes people nervous. With nervousness comes panic, and with panic comes mistakes. Fear is not an accurate motivator, however competition is. The students will be less inclined to make mistakes, if they are rewarded for their efforts." The apprentice hypothesised.
"And this reward is?"
"I haven't decided yet."
Severus fought the urge to roll his eyes, but allowed her to do her thing uninterrupted.
Since their little 'heart to heart' that night in Snape's office the two professors were finding working with each other a lot more amiable. Severus had given Aria a little more free reign with her portion of the lessons, which in turn, allowed her to respect Severus' strict theoretical practices without causing too many interruptions. The pair had almost started to enjoy working together.
Student by student the class trickled in, each of them intrigued by the new set up of the class room.
"Everyone please take your seats, do not touch the table at the front of the room, class will begin momentarily." Miss Dumbledore announced.
A moment of panic set in as Aria scrambled around Snape's desk, looking for her list of possible potions. This may not have been her first time teaching solo, but it was, however, her opportunity to prove her practices are successful in front of her mentor, Severus Snape. The man in question could see the fear in her eyes, and that she was desperate to impress.
"Here." He mouthed, handing her the piece of parchment. "Relax."
Brushing fingers, as she took the parchment from him, Aria grinned.
"Thank you." She whispered, once again turning to face the class, now with a little more confidence.
"Now today, as you may have guessed, we are going to do something a little different. Professor Snape and I have chosen to take this opportunity to allow you, our promising young N.E.W.Ts students, to show off your skill set to the best of your ability's. On this table in front of me you will find a select variety of potions ingredients that correspond to a number of potions all very much within your capability, your task is to complete one of these potions within the allotted time, at the end of which, a winner will be selected by us."
"What do we win then, professor?" One eager student asked.
"A potion of their choice." She declared, impulsively.
A murmer of chatter instantly broke out among the class, intrigued at the prospect of winning such a thing.
"That all sounds very exciting, Miss Dumbledore." Snape cut in, unwilling to take a backseat quite so easily. "However, sadly as an apprentice professor you are not permitted to take anything from my stores to use so frivolously. The prize will have to be decided at a later time."
Unsurprisingly the students weren't too pleased with Snape's intervention causing for a series of disappointed groans and heckles.
"Then I shall make it myself." Aria concluded.
Another bout of cheers erupted.
"Collect your ingredients, light up your cauldrons, your time starts now!"
Immediately the students jumped from their seats, swarming the table to get what they needed. The professors moved away from the crowd, giving the class a moment to get started.
"Miss Dumbledore, this is not a wise decision." Severus spoke in hushed tones. "I understand entirely the prize of a potion chosen by you, but to give them a choice could be extremely dangerous, think of the chaos that will ensue."
"How about you have a little faith in them for once. Trust that they will make the right decision."
Looking down on the woman, Severus couldn't help but trust she would be right.
"I have faith in you. Not in them." He made clear.
Severus made to walk away, leaving Aria to relish in her small victory, until he was suddenly pulled back by the young woman's hand in his. Not saying a word, Aria Dumbledore gave him an appreciative squeeze, before releasing him back to his desk.
The first hour of the classes passed by effortlessly, the students worked quietly and Severus found no reason to complain. All in all, Aria was quite pleased with how her lesson was going.
That was until...
"Oh shiiiiit."
"Language Mr. Lawrence." Severus warned, briefly looking up from his marking.
"Right, sorry sir. But what the fuck am I supposed to do when this thing starts bubbling like crazy." He freaked out, completely ignoring the potions master's warning.
"What?" Aria gasped, only just becoming aware of the situation.
"Yeah like this thing looks likes 'bout to blow, to be honest with you." The seventh year Hufflepuff boy informed nonchalantly.
"Step away from that cauldron students, quickly!" Aria ordered, ushering them to the sides of the classroom.  "You were attempting a wit-sharpening potion, is that correct?"
"Yup."
"I'm afraid there's no saving it now, Mr. Lawrence, the best we can hope for is that it does not turn to acid and burn through bench."
"Out of my way." Severus huffed impatiently, forcing his way through the crowd of students that had formed around the cauldron.
"Pass me that root of ginger" Snape demanded, positioning himself in front of the ever growing cauldron of bubbling green liquid. Aria obeyed hastily, as the professor performed what she could only describe as a miracle on this horrifying concoction. "Some more newt spleens." He requested, holding out a hand expectantly, while the other gripped onto his wand, casting an enchantment over the potion.
The potions master continued adding a bit of this and a dash of that to the potion, all ingredients Aria Dumbledore would never have considered to associate with this particular brew. Jars of herbs, spices and animal parts were passed through the classroom in order to reach Professor Snape who continuously stirred the potion, muttering all sorts of charms and spells.
However skilled Aria had assumed she was at the art of potion making, it was made clear to her that she was no match for Severus' skills, brewing potions was second nature to him now. Within minutes he had achieved what Aria Dumbledore had deemed impossible, and thus the potion was brought back to it's natural state.
"Severus..." The apprentice gawped. "That was amazing."
"That was nothing." He replied curtly, removing himself from the scene. "Everybody back to work, this is not an excuse to slack off."
Still in awe at the pure artistry she had witnessed, Aria trotted sheepishly back to the front of the class.
Blissfully unaware of the pure talent they had just seen, the students continued on with their work. The Hufflepuff boy did not even have the decency to thank his professor for salvaging the mess he called a potion, let alone be grateful he never received a detention, or deduction of house points.
"What are you staring at, Miss Dumbledore, is there no better way you can spend your time?"
"I'm sorry Severus, but that display was just... brilliant." She beamed.
"Like I said, it was nothing. It comes with the job, I refuse to have any of those delinquents burn through my entire store cupboard because they cannot brew a simple potion, a year below their level no less."
"Well, at least we know who definitely won't be winning anyway." Aria giggled.
"The most we can hope for from that boy is that he manages to finish his potion, god knows he'll need it."
Playfully slapping Snape on the arm for his cheek, the witch perched herself on the edge of the professor's desk, attempting a quick sketch on a scrap piece of parchment, while the students begun to finish off their potions.
"Professor Snape, the winner?" Aria asked, turning to her colleague for a verdict once all of the potions had been completed.
"You want me to choose?" Severus replied, skeptical of her offer.
"Of course. I don't think it would be fair of me to do it, considering I've been giving all of them tips this lesson."
"Very well." He droned, stepping forth to analyse the contents of the cauldrons.
"This one." He announced, pointing a single finger to the cauldron of a young Slytherin witch. "Given that it was the only potion brewed to complete perfection, there is no other possible candidate. I suggest the rest of you get studying before your N.E.W.T's exams, at the rate you lot are going, none of you besides Miss Johnstone here is likely to pass." Snape scolded.
"Well then, congratulations Miss Johnstone, you are the winner of a potion of your choice. See me after lessons tomorrow and let me know your decision."
The girl practically beamed with pride, expecting nothing less than first place.
"Class dismissed."

The Spider's Bride
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: spider!Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warning: yandere, obsession, stalking, forced marriage, mentions of suicidal thoughts and breeding (but everything is not as dark as it seems).
Words: 3836.
Summary: Whoever your stepmother sold you to, he wasn't as honorable as she claimed.
P.S. Hey guys! Initially it was supposed to be more horror-ish, but then I wrote a lot of sad Bucky, and, ugh, the story became what it is now. Hope you're going to enjoy!
____________
"From now on you have to go alone. We're not allowed to come any further." Your stepmother said and stopped, your stepsisters looking at her with visible discomfort on their faces.
"But we have to ensure her betrothed is waiting for her and pass him her trousseau. This is the tradit-"
"He's not from these lands and cares little for our traditions." She quickly cut one of her daughters off and motioned them to give a few bags they were carrying back to you. "The only thing you have to do is follow the path and you will be alright, girl. Stop being so scared, I'm not sending you to meet your death. Suit yourself, dear Lord! You are going to be married to an honorable man, be grateful I've arranged it for you!"
Funny. If he was truly as honorable as she said, she'd let one of her girls marry him instead. Judging by the place he asked you to come meet him, he was some filthy necromancer or a dark mage in hiding. Regardless of that, he had definitely paid good money for you if your stepmother was willing to let go of the one who was doing most of the housework.
Whatever. Since the death of your father, you hadn't been expecting your miserable life to get any better. She'd force you to marry some revolting man sooner or later, nevertheless.
"Goodbye, sisters." You whispered to them, throwing your rough work-weary hands around their skinny shoulders and kissing their cheeks. "May the Lord be with you."
"May the Lord be with you." They repeated quietly, and you saw their eyes were glistening with tears in the darkness of the cave. They were clinging to you like little kids to their mother, and you smiled. Despite being born to this vulture, your sisters were kind-hearted. They were the only ones to bring you joy in the darkest of days.
"Goodbye, mother."
She turned away from you silently and headed back without acknowledging your words. One of her daughters hissed at her with disdain before she looked back and sent the girl a grim look, pointing to the entrance where the light was piercing through the darkness.
"Move. I don't have all day."
Watching the guilty expression appearing on their faces, you patted both of the girls on the back and silently ushered them to go. They weren't the ones to blame for what had happened to you, and they couldn't do much. No one could.
As all three disappeared from your view, you bit down on your lower lip and gathered your pathetic belongings. You didn't have anything valuable since even the dresses your mother wore were burnt once that woman entered the house of your father. Sometimes you were thinking whether anything would be different if he stayed alive, but you weren't sure of that. Maybe it was better without him, the man who had seen his new wife destroying the one and only portrait of your mother, but doing nothing at all to stop her. Maybe it was better you left the house where you were constantly reminded of how miserable and rotten you were, a girl she hated with all her heart.
Rubbing your eyes with the back of your hand to stop yourself from crying, you moved forward, going deeper into the dungeon or whatever this cold unfriendly place was, the medallion your betrothed given you hanging on your chest. Was it his face you saw inside? It would be surprising if he was as handsome as on the picture. Tired, a bit broken, maybe, and somewhat gloomy, but handsome. Or did your stepmother steal this medallion from someone else, some true soldier she claimed your betrothed to be? Was your fiancee ugly, then? Old? Unhealthy? There was only one way to find out.
The more you walked, the heavier the bags with trousseau became in your hands. At one point you thought to just leave them there, but then you sighed and continued carrying them further. Instead of paying a dowry, your stepmother sold you to your betrothed. He could get mad if you didn't bring him even your trousseau.
It was getting colder, and you stopped for a minute to wrap you woolen shawl around your shoulders, dropping the bags to the ground. Your little journey took you much longer than you expected, and you hoped your fiancee hadn't already been waiting for you. He would be enraged, for sure. Hopefully, you still had a little time.
Bending over to pick up your bags, you suddenly froze on the spot. You heard some odd noises coming from somewhere ahead of you and then raised your head. The burning torches lighting the cave were... shaking?
You jumped to your feet. The noise was becoming louder. You couldn't quite describe it - it felt like indistinct whispers, but very rough, inhuman. The ground trembled beneath your feet as you felt fear rising deep within your chest, leaving you cold. What was that? What was that sound? What creature was whispering... no, tapping... pounding the ground with something...
You left the bags where they were and turned back. It was not the whisper. It was the sound of an enournously huge insect creeping closer to you.
Bats out of hell moved slower than you when you ran towards the exit, barely containing your screams. Was that a giant centipede? A beetle? Something worse than that? You had no desire to figure it out.
You knew this was a bad idea from the start. Your stepmother had never cared for your wellbeing, so it wasn't surprising she truly sent you to your death. Was your fiancee a necromancer who preferred dead women over the living ones? Maybe so.
You fell down to the ground with a loud scream and sobbed, forcing yourself to get up and look at your blooded knee. Pain shot through it once you tried to move, and you bit your tongue. It was even harder to walk now, but you weren't staying there to let whatever creature come and devour your flesh. Gathering yourself, you clenched your teeth and kept running, albeit slower, to the exit of the cave. If you died trying, so be it.
"Please, don't run from me!" Someone said in a desperate voice from behind, yet the only sound you had heard was the one of dozens of steps against the ground. Many metal legs scratched the stone beneath them, making you shudder and cry.
Whatever that creature were, it would be the death of you.
And so you ran and ran until you couldn't feel your legs, but the monster was too close to let you escape. When you fell down the second time on the same knee, undeniably breaking it, you screamed from pain and tried to crawl away still, watching in utter horror how the shadow emerged from the darkness behind you, it's features inhuman, monstrous, revolting. Watching the claws on its eight long legs enveloped in metal glowing in the dark, you yelled at the top of your voice, raising your eyes to the black spider's segmented body.
As you kept looking up, you saw that a horrifying creature wasn't just a gigantic spider. Half of him belonged to a man. Although below the waistline he had that abominable black body, his torso, chest, arms and head were human.
You screamed until your lungs were burning when you saw the face of a man you first had discovered on a little painting inside the medallion. It was your betrothed. Your stepmother had sold you to the arachnid.
Before he advanced further, the light went out, and you were drowning in the dark, finally loosing your consciousness.
____________
There was a distant sound of someone's singing somewhere outside of the house. You could mistake it for Aleana's voice, but hers was lower than this one, melodic, almost magical. This charming singing could put sirens to shame.
You slowly opened your eyes, looking at the high ceiling through the silver threads of the canopy above you. It was odd. Even before your father married for the second time you had never had a canopy bed, especially such a gorgeous one with a cloth looking like it was made by the Queen's best weavers. It almost looked like a silky silver web.
Spiders. Arachnid.
You jumped on the bed, throwing away a warm blanket covering your body, and stared at the large room you woke up in. It seemed as big as half of your house at the very least, the walls coloured in shades of lilac and amethyst, two silver chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. You saw dark-wood furniture lavishly decorated with auspicious motifs, a huge oval mirror... it looked like a room of a princess.
"Are you feeling better?"
You screamed when you heard someone's low voice and clamped your hands over your mouth, quickly moving to the farthest corner of the bed, your back pressed into the cold wall. There was a stranger sitting on the chair near your bed, but for some reason you hadn't seen him before as if he just emerged from the darkness.
You were staring at the face of a man you saw in the cave. Now, however, he looked fully human, his monstrous lower half replaced by long musculed legs. He was dressed in black lether while his left arm glowed in the dark, wrapped in metal, but he couldn't trick you with his charms. You knew his true form.
He was a war veteran, stepmother said, a hero, a soldier. She failed to mention he belonged to arachnid troops, the ones who fought alonside soldiers of your kingdom against Hydra tribes.
Grabbing a pillow and hiding behind it as if it were a shield, you cried, shivering and cursing your stepmother silently. How could she do it to you? How could she give you to an arachnid, this revolting, inhuman creature crawling in the dark? How could she send you here, knowing you were to be wed to this beast and bear his monstrous children? Better death than this. Better ending your life yourself than becoming a whore to this creature, forsaken by the gods.
You didn't know how much time had passed before your tears dried out. The man didn't try to get closer to you. He didn't speak, keeping his head low while you shuddered in the corner.
A bride to the spider. Even thinking of that made you feel like throwing up.
"Are you feeling better?" The man suddenly repeated his question, and you shriveled upon hearing his voice.
You didn't want to talk. Since the time your stepmother had first entered your house, your life was pathetic and worthless. She stripped you of your dowry and all belongings of your mother; she took away your dresses and even ribbons you used to decorate your hair with. You were not the daughter of lady of the house anymore. You were her errands girl, her little servant, the one she had been taking her anger out on. Even when your father was still alive, you knew you wouldn't be allowed to marry a decent man.
You dreamt of running away and living all by yourself in the forest before it was invaded by agressive driads and deadly lamias. After that you quietly accepted that your fate was to suffee in the arms of your offenders. You realized gods didn't want you to be happy, but you couldn't even imagine you would end up being sent to a dungeon right into the arms of this monster who was to breed you. You felt revolt rising deep within you. Even dying was better than this.
"I have healed your knee." The man said, and you blinked, suddenly conscious of your lack of pain. It was true, you had broken it on the run, but now you felt nothing as if you didn't hurt yourself in the first place.
He probably expected some gratitude.
"Thank you." You said in raspy voice, holding the pillow closer to you and hiding your face, your eyes red from tears. You thought it was funny he didn't chain you, but did he need that? With those eight legs of his he could catch anyone without breaking a sweat.
You bit down on your lip and saw he was watching you intently, so you lowered your gaze, looking at your airy silk dress. It softly glowed in the dark like the cloth of the canopy, and you suddenly thought that this revolting creature had undressed you and seen your naked form. Tears started gathering in the corners of your eyes again.
"Please, do not be afraid." The man said tenderly, and you answered him with a sob. His tired expression became worried. "I am sorry for scaring you earlier. I have thought it would be better to show you my true form from the early beginning."
You sniffed and tried covering your shaking feet with the blanket. Why did it have to happen to you? What had you done? Why had he chosen you over other women? You were far from the prettiest ones among your village.
"Why me?" You asked in a little voice, afraid of what you might hear.
The man - the monster in human flesh - smiled at you, his gaze wistful, and you shivered.
"I saw you on the day of the summer solstice. You were dancing barefoot around the fire with your sisters." The man said, and his gloomy face lit up. "You had a flower crown on your head."
Oh, he was there on the day of the festival, then. It was one of the few days when you could break free from the hold your stepmother had over you. Your sisters and you always went to the clearing in the woods and danced till the sunset after giving your prayers to the gods protecting your lands. This year your sister Adana had made you a flower crown to cheer you up.
"You were the most charming woman I have ever seen." His quiet voice made you snap out of your thoughts, and you greeted your teeth. "I've been watching you since then when you were out in the village or doing the house chores in the backyard. I saw... I saw when you didn't let your stepmother kill the spider and put him in the grass instead."
He gulped, and you bit the fabric of the pillow, shutting your eyes for a few seconds. This beast had been secretly watching you for months, and you had no clue about it. Did your stepmother know? Did she let him do it? How much did he pay her to let him follow you around?
"Are we even compatible?" You sniffed again, afraid to look at him. "Humans and..."
"We are compatible if you refer to being able to bear my children."
Your fingers buried into your hair, pulling at the roots in frustration. You bit back a cry knowing it wouldn't make you feel better. Carry little monsters in your womb and give birth to more of those revolting creatures... Were you supposed to lay eggs like spiders did? Would your children grow inside those cocoons? Before you could stop yourself, you were crying loudly and pressing your face into the pillow. When you sensed the man standing up and moving closer, you screamed in horror, pressing yourself further into the walls. He stepped back, an awful, hurt look in his eyes. Before you'd feel guilty, ashamed at yourself, but not now. Not in front of a creature that deserved nothing but death.
He sat back on the chair, watching the shiny wooden floor beneath his feet and allowing you time to calm down again. Why was he quiet? Did he try to persuade you he was civil? That he wouldn't jump at you like spiders did with its prey? The mere comparison made you shudder, and you wiped the tears with the pillow again.
The silence felt heavy, but you had nothing to say while the man was probably afraid to talk to you, knowing you didn't want to hear his voice. Did he know how revolting he was? Did he know you'd never step into the cave if you knew who was waiting for you there? Did he know you wished for nothing but break its disgusting long legs with metal claws on the ends?
You forced yourself to think of something else once you looked at his unbearably sad expression. He must have known a beast like him didn't deserve love. Not a love of a human being, at least. Why did he choose you? Why hadn't he seeked his betrothed among his own kind?
"Why looking for a human?" You asked him, lowering your gaze to your knees. "Why not the one from your own tribe?"
"We don't have many females left." He answered immediately as if he were waiting for you to speak up. "The war with nagas had affected us more than you think."
"But, surely, there are other species willing t-to... mate with you?" No, you didn't truly believe anyone in the whole world would be willing to, except the actual giant spiders of the South.
"There a few like driades of coniferous woods and dark elves living in the caves of Northern Mountains, but their number is decreasing, and they are not as willing to marry our men as before. They are trying to save their own kind."
"Oh, I see. There are too many of us, humans, so we aren't that valuable." You smiled bitterly at his words, and the man's blue eyes widened.
"My apologies, I didn't mean it. I would never say anything like that, apple of my eye."
You cringed at his words: he was still trying to trick you into believing he was some gentleman.
"Please, I know it is hard for you to believe me now, but I swear by my mother's name I'll give you more than any human man can." The creature whispered, his gaze soft and loving. "Whatever you wish for I shall bring to you."
"I don't want any man to give me anything." You sobbed, shaking your head. "I've only ever wanted my mother to come back, nothing else."
There was something that looked like understanding and pity appearing on his face. He could apprehend the loss of the one you loved the most, it seemed.
"Forgive me, but this is the only thing I cannot do for you. We practice necromancy, that's true, yet... you don't want you dear mother to be brought back that way, believe me."
"Than there's nothing you could give me."
You knew you were unreasonable - nothing could bring her back - but you didn't want him to think you were accepting his kind offer. He was a monster, and you didn't deserve to be wed to him.
But then what choice did you have? Surely, you would never leave this place - even if he was kind enough to attempt returning you to your stepmother, that rotten woman would never give him his money back, and he wouldn't let you go otherwise. Despite all your struggle, he would marry you, and you would have to comply.
How soon would you lose your sanity? Would it happen after seeing his true form for the second time? Maybe when he would bed you?
You felt an urge to throw up and clamped your hand against your mouth again.
"Do you have a potion?" You mumbled, forcing yourself to speak.
"A potion?" He repeated and frowned. "What potion do you need, my love?"
"I don't know how you call it... the potion that makes you fall in love with someone. They say it twists your heart and makes you forget whatever you felt before towards the one who gives it to you." Rubbing your tired wet eyes you asked, fixing your gaze on the blanket. You were repulsed by the idea of him even touching you, but if it was unavoidable, maybe being charmed and happy was better than losing your mind completely.
The man sighed, wiping his face with his hand in a black leather glove.
"A potion like this truly exists, and I can make it for you, but it won't help." He said quietly. "The charms don't last long. Of course, they would give us enough time to conceive a child, but is it truly want you want me to do to you?"
Don't say anything, don't say anything, don'tsayanything.
"Then what do you want from me?" More and more tears dropped to the blanket. "Do you expect me to fall in love with you at the first sight? Do you want me to pretend I like being here?"
"No. I don't."
There was a deep desperation to his voice you hadn't heard before, and it made you fall silent despite all the words almost leaping out of your mouth. So, this creature must know how disgusting he was in your eyes. Surely, you weren't the first human female captured by his tribe - they all knew how scary and ugly they looked to the ones of your kind. Why bringing you here, then? Why forcing you marry him? Of utter desperation because there was no one else for him to mate with? Because he liked you?
It wasn't getting any better.
"I know you are still tired. Please rest. No one will enter your chamber unless you ask for anything yourself."
He got up from his seat and slowly went to the other side of the room where those huge wide doors were - they were so big that he could enter in his true form. You hiccuped at the thought. For now he looked perfectly human - you could even call him handsome if you hadn't seen him back then in the cave. If only he was a true man, you'd be the luckiest girl in the world.
You pressed the blanket to your wet face to take away whatever was left on your cheeks and coughed a little. Staying here was frightening, but you were all by yourself, at least. If you got a bit more rest, maybe you'd think of something. Maybe you'd figure it out.
You could still hear the distant sound of singing somewhere outside, and suddenly you found yourself speaking to him again, making him look back at you.
"Who is that?" You asked, staring at his strong beefy figure. "Is it another prisoner?"
A prisoner, that was how you called yourself. You saw creature's gaze falling to your feet as he inhaled deeply and murmured, "No. They are my sisters singing to us." Before you could cry out in horror, asking what magic they casted on you, he continued. "They are sending us their blessings."
When he had disappeared behind the doors, you pulled the blanket over your head, feeling guilty, hurt, and disgusted at both him and yourself.

Dear Hazel 2: Of Blood And Roses Chapter 6
Pff this one was tricky to write! I hope you like it though!❤
--------------------------
"You did well, Avril."
Avril sat at a long table, her head hung low.
"Don't hurt her, please? I know she's evil, but she is just a-."
The man - her father - laughed, shaking his head.
"A girl. That's why we took her, didn't we? To make sure she wouldn't be evil anymore?"
Avril nodded. "I suppose so, father."
"Go to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. I hope you'll be ready to fully cooperate by then."
"What do you mean?"
"It's time you fully learn the family business."
"Meaning what exactly?"
"You will play a big part in removing the evil, also with finding a vessel."
"What if I'm not ready for it, father? I'm not sure I can-?"
"Avril, you're seventeen. Of course you are ready for it. Now, go to he'd and rest. I'll see you tomorrow at seven sharp."
The girl stood up, heading up to her room. She felt sick. It hadn't been her intention to kidnap anyone, or to hurt anyone. She was just doing what her father told her. He was trying to rid the world of evil, to keep her safe. How could she deny his wishes then? And in all honesty, how bad was it? He believed he had found a way to remove the evil out if a person, making them good once again. If that was true he was actually making the world a better place, right?
Avril signed as she walked through the hallways. Sometimes the house - or rather mansion - felt to big to live in, to broad and to open to fill up the space. It was always quiet, except for the echoes of her own footsteps. The older she'd became the more she began to realise how much she despised the large house, the cold memories stuck between the walls, the pretend of being more than they were... She hated it. No matter where they moved to, it was always a house like this. Grand, white, old.
Before going to her room, Avril took a small detour to the dungeons. They were hidden far away under the mansion, soundproofed and daylight proofed. Most cells were empty, except for two. One had been filled since the family business started almost a hundred years ago, a thick lock hanging on the door leading into the cell, a small metal plate stating "Sue" as the name of the creature. The other cell had only been put to usage today and was definitely cleaner. Both prisoners were asleep, almost peacefully so. Avril sighed as she made her way back to her bedroom. She just hoped that she was doing the right thing.
----------
"Alright. I'll check the school first thing in the morning," Rhaina said, a yawn escaping her.
"Why not now?" David practically growled. Rhaina had already figured out he was the elder brother to the teen - if not the father, seeing the vampire thing - and that he was incredibly protective over the girl. In any other moment it would have endeared her, but now she just became more annoyed.
"Because the school is closed and I need some sleep or I won't be of any use to you anyways."
"I can go and see if she's been around there," the girl - Star - said.
"Be back before dawn," David told her, giving her a small nod. As the boys left Jo's house, Rhaina and Star stayed behind. Star was waiting for her cup of blood to heat up - stating that she couldn't search for Hazel when her hunger was so bad - and Rhaina was trying to be polite, not wanting to leave without thanking Jo for her hospitality. Jo had gone into the kitchen to wash up some dishes and Charles was putting Laddie to bed so the two girls were alone in the living room.
"I can see why Dwayne likes you."
"He does?" Rhaina asked surprised. Surely after her abandoning him and yelling at him he should have at least disliked her.
"Yeah. He's trying to give you time, you know. To come around - or not. Just know that he really likes you."
Rhaina nodded, not knowing what to say. She couldn't hate him for being a vampire, and in all honesty she didn't. She just hated that he had to kill, and that it had become normal to him - eventhough she could even understand that. She just didn't want to accept it, it was going against everything she stood for as not only a detective but also as a person. She sighed, looking at Star.
"Are you like them?"
"Yeah. Have been for almost a year now."
"Do you kill humans?"
"Are you here to take me in?"
It was quiet before both girls giggled. Star shook her head.
"I try not to. I don't like it, if I do I try to pick thugs and thieves."
"Do you feel guilt?"
"Sometimes."
Rhaina nodded. "Sorry, I just needed to know."
Jo came in, handing a flask to Star.
"That's alright. I'm going to head to the school. It was nice to meet you!"
Star left, and Rhaina made her way to the front door.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Miss Johnson. I will see you tomorrow," Rhaina sighed, leaving the house. This was definitely not how she imagined her night to go, but she couldn't do much about it now. Her mind kept trying to organise the events of that evening - or of the past two weeks for that matter. Santa Carla had a strange effect on people and Rhaina wasn't sure whether or not she liked it.
------------
"Hello?"
No answer. She stepped further into the empty halls, nearing the stairwell when she called out again.
"Anyone there?"
"Star?!"
Maria came running down the stairs, smiling as she saw Star standing there. "Look at you! You're looking good!"
Star couldn't help but blush, hugging Maria.
"What are you doing here?"
"It's Hazel," Star said softly, "She's missing."
"Strange, I've seen her leave the building... Her biology teacher said something about her just running out of class, and she didn't return until all her classes were over. She only left when everyone else was already gone."
"Do you know where she went during school hours?"
"No... My guess is a bathroom. She was clutching her stomach as if she was on her period."
Star froze. "What exactly were they doing in biology?"
"Disecting an eye. Why do you want to know?"
"She's half."
Maria knew about what they were - having been a human pawn used by Max - and immediately realised what had been going on.
"O shit," Maria looked at Star, "Now what?"
"Try to find her and telling David, I think."
"Before you go - are you sure she's missing? How long has she been gone? Three hours?"
"Almost seven."
"Maybe she's just hanging out somewhere?"
Star shook her head. "She doesn't just do those things, she always tells us where she's going. Especially since what happened the past year or so, we just want to keep her safe."
"I feel for the kid. It's unfair how much shit she has to deal with."
"Are you going with?" Star looked at Maria, who nodded.
"I just hope I can help you guys."
"Me too," Star smiled, taking her by the hand as she flew towards the cave, being greeted by the boys as she brought them the update.
------------
The cave was unusually quiet that night. David had sund the boys out to go and look for Hazel, while he tried to find any clues as to where she could be. He had needed the quiet, the peace - he needed to think clearly if he wanted to find her, and as much as he cared about his brothers he couldn't do that when they were there.
Hazel had been acting weird yesterday, and he realised that that may have had something to do with her disappearing now. David went into her room, sighing softly. It was a slight mess - clothes laying on a chair, the ground and some on her bed. Books laying everywhere... He picked them up, placing them back on the shelves. If he had known this would happen - that she wouldn't come home - he would have made sure to talk to her. The last conversation they had had been that argument, and David couldn't forgive himself if something happened to Hazel and the words spoken in anger were the last words he'd ever said to her.
He looked at the final book - one on her bed. It was a picturealbum, one Marko had gifted her. Pictures and drawings form when Hazel was growing up. There were just a few, a babypicture the old neighbour had insisted to pay for, and then a picture of the both of them together when she was almost three - not long before they left New York to go to Santa Carla. The next picture was when she was five, and they'd celebrated New Years Eve together with Marko and Dwayne. Then there were some pictures if just the boys - taken when shed been locked in that coffin. Only the last pages held recent pictures - one of Star and her together, Sam and her, the boys... He sighed, looking at a picture in which she brightly smiled, actually looking genuinely happy.
He was about to put the album away, realising it only made his mood worse, when he noticed a newer picture. One of Hazel with Marko and Paul, both boys looking as if they were keeping something from her. David frowned, taking the picture in. They definitely knew something.
- ----------
Was there a worse sound than the alarm clock in the morning? Rhaina groaned as she tried - and failed - to mute hers. Sighing she got up out of bed, turning the clock off before stepping into the shower.
The events of the previous night played in her head, again and again. Dwayne had seemed worried about his niece missing, that David guy seemed more pissed than anything. She didn't want to let the girl hang - as far as Rhaina cared Hazel hadn't done anything to deserve this fate. No, the part where she had to deal with the vampires - that was the part that made her want to leave. That made her want to scream, and run and hide and just quit her job right here, right now. Not that she could do that - besides the fact she actually liked solving these cases, and that she felt that she needed to safe Hazel, she also had her own goals to reach. She had to find answers, she had to know how her father was killed - she couldn't leave, not without answers. Not without saving the girl.
She thought about it as the hot water streamed down over her head, and she knew it was the best thing to do. She would start with trying to find some friends or anyone who had seen her last, and if that wouldn't help her, she would look into gangs and figure out if they were involved. It was a somewhat solid plan, and feeling a tiny bit more relaxed than she did before, Rhaina turned the shower off, starting to dry her self off.
As she got out of the bathroom, dressed and washed, she noticed a voicemail on her phone. She listened to it as she put her contacts in.
"Miss Jones? I'm calling about the personal case you're working on. I think I found who's last seen your father."
Rhaina looked up, twisting the cap of the contacts container close, blinking to make sure they were in the right spot.
"There used to be this videostore. The owner, a certain man named Max, went with him that night."
It was quiet for a moment. "He's a villain, Rhaina. Now, go and do your job and catch him!"
Rhaina smiled softly. The case the caller spoke about was the murder of her father - a terrible crime which had happened when she was just fourteen years old. Her father had been murdered and they'd never been able to find who it was. Up until now. Rhaina pulled her shoes on and went on her way to the police station. They could definitely help her find some answers.
As she walked into the surprisingly calm station, she was sad to realise nobody knew anything about her Father's case. Sighing she left again, realising she had to do it all on her own.
Spending the rest of her day researching Hazel's case she had hardly any luck.
Rhaina walked back home, expecting to just make a meal and go to bed - when she found a frantic looking Laddie waiting for her.
"Laddie, what-,"
"They've got the girl!"
"Who does?"
"The people that took me!"
"Are you sure?"
The boy nodded.
"If this is true, than you're an absolute hero!"
She quickly brought Laddie home, ready to research the gang to prepare herself for freeing the girl. Before she could reach her frontdoor however, she felt a cold hand wrap around her wrist. A needle in her neck. Slowly she drifted of to unconsciousness, her limb body being dragged into a dark van that sped of the moment she was very inside.

----
You had a careful eye on the group of ruffians you were observing from afar.  One false move, and a lot of people could get hurt.
Though you were the type to be patient and thorough, you couldn’t help but feel frustrated sometimes.  It wasn’t a question of strength, but rather the methods Odin commanded you use when scouting behind enemy lines.  If you were caught, you’d have to silently pay the price, giving Asgard the loyalty it deserved.
Why sit around and wait when you could lead with the element of surprise?  You were inwardly screaming at yourself to make a move, but when Thor placed his hand on your shoulder, you relaxed.
“Patience,” he said.  “They’ll come around.”
You raised an eyebrow.  “You’ve grown up.”
“Give or take another thousand years, maybe I’ll be as wise as you,” he chuckled.
“That would be a miracle,” you teased.  “But seriously, how much longer are we going to have to wait?”
“Our task is to observe,” he reminded you.  “We can’t just waltz over there and casually capture everyone.”
“I’d like to think we could,” you said, bored out of your mind.  “And if Odin doesn’t like it, I’ll take the blame.”
Thor chuckled as he tossed Mjolnir into the air.  “I wouldn’t ever let you take the blame.  You know that.”
You hid your smile as you looked away, your cheeks feeling warm.
He always knew how to do that.  No matter what kind of mood you were in, he always managed to make you smile.
“We should follow orders,” he said.  “That way no one gets hurt.”
“Now you’re speaking logically,” you teased.  “I hate it when you speak logically.”
“But no one gets hurt.”
“Good point.”
He chuckled.  “You’re really trying to sell this, aren’t you?”
“Sell what?” you asked while making a point to bat your eyelashes.
“You know, if we weren’t on a mission right now, I’d --”
“Thor, they’re packing up and moving South.  I think they spotted Volstagg while patrolling the perimeter,” Sif reported as she came over.  Seeing you and Thor, she furrowed her brow.  “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
“Yes,” Thor began.
You shook your head.  “Not at all.”  You unsheathed your sword.  “So, what shall it be, God of Thunder?  Let the ruffians escape, or make them pay for the lives they’ve taken?”
Thor sighed.  “Always taking charge,” he muttered.  He stood, holding Mjolnir in his grasp.  “We’ll capture them, then take them back for questioning.”
You felt adrenaline rush through your body.  You could feel yourself begin to call on strong, dark stormclouds, ready to release heavy rains powerful enough to flood a planet.  You were careful to control it, always afraid it would overtake you.
“Understood.”
--
Odin sat on his throne looking somewhat satisfied.
“Guards, please escort this group to the dungeons,” he instructed.
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
He slowly made his way down the steps to you, Thor, and the others.  He pursed his lips into a half smile, his one eye glinting.
“I’m glad you didn’t use force until it was necessary.  They’re a vital piece in bringing down the outliers of the realms,” he said.
“King Odin, that was Thor’s idea,” you said.
The king pat Thor’s shoulder.  “Son.”
“Father.”
“Well done,” he said.  “In the meantime, get some rest.  It’ll be a while before more begin to show their positions.”
As you walked away, you glanced at Thor, who kept himself from grinning too widely.  You elbowed him playfully.
“Nice one,” you said.
“I couldn’t have done it without you,” he said.  “Your powers are growing.”
You shrugged.  “It comes and goes.”  You frowned.  “Anyway, what were you going to tell me earlier?”
Thor blushed at the memory.  “Oh...you know...”
You frowned.  “No, I don’t, Thor.”
“Have dinner with me and my family later?” he suggested.  “It’ll be relaxing and fun...”
You raised an eyebrow, not buying his excuse for one second, but you decided to go along with it anyway.  “Fine.”
His smile was bright.  “I’ll see you later then.”
--
You shifted in your ivory and gold dress, taking a generous gulp of wine.
Dresses were never your thing.  They were impractical and unyielding and, sometimes, uncomfortable, depending on whether or not you were forced into a corset.  Thankfully, you weren’t at the moment.
“You look absolutely lovely, dear,” Frigga said with a warm smile.
You bowed your head.  “Thank you, my Queen.”
“Please,” she insisted.  “You’re like family.  Just Mother or Frigga is fine.”
Across the table, Loki rolled his eyes, and you sent him a glare.
“Please, Loki, enough of your antics for once,” Thor groaned.
Loki held his hands up in defeat.  “I didn’t say anything!”
Odin laughed as he shook his head.  “My sons, is this any way to act in front of a lady?” he chuckled.  “No wonder neither of you have found suitable partners yet.”
You choked on your wine.
Thor laughed along nervously.  “Yes, well, we’re not really looking at the moment, are we, Father?”
You had to admit part of you was crushed.  You always knew that Thor would eventually marry a noblewoman and try to retire from the battlefield to keep the family name going, but you never thought it would come so soon.
You weren’t ready to let go of your best friend.
“I suppose not,” Odin said.  “Anyhow, I shall retire.  Well done, again, to both of you.”
You and Thor stood and nodded as Odin and Frigga exited the room.
“I suppose I’ll be leaving too,” Loki said.  He shot his brother a wink before exiting.
You made your way to the window, watching the moon begin to rise in the sky.  You couldn’t help but sigh.
Thor laughed.  “What?”
“I go through a lot of things for you, but being in this dress crosses the line.”
“Come now,” he said, walking over to take your hand.  “You look beautiful.”
You looked away with embarrassment.  “You really think so?”
“Of course,” he said.
You laughed.  “Thanks.”
When he gently squeezed your hands with his callused fingers, you looked into his blue eyes.
“What is it?” you asked.
“What I wanted to say earlier,” he said abnormally softly.  “Was that if we weren’t on that mission, I’d kiss you then and there.”
Your heart was swelling in your chest.  Did you hear that right?
“I love you.  I always have,” he explained.  “But it wasn’t until recently that I realized I can’t live without you.  You’re a strong warrior, my best friend, and a compassionate being.”
“That’s more compliments than I’m used to,” you couldn’t help but laugh.
“So,” he sighed.  “Will you have me?”
You blinked.  “To...to marry?”
Thor was flushed with color.  “Well...eventually, yes...but if that’s too much...I don’t know...”
You answered by laying a gentle kiss on his lips.  “It’s not too much,” you laughed.  “I love you.”
The God of Thunder grinned, making butterflies surface as he leaned down to kiss you again.
And you could’ve sworn the moon shone a little brighter.

You grab your wand and flick it, now the food is making itself. "I love magic." You say and then wash your hands.

"Oh there is my favourite niece!" Draco says and smiles. "Soon enough you'll have a little boy or girl running around Draco then you'll stop hoarding my daughter." Fred says.
Everyone laughs.

Black Moon Rising Pt. 2
Tumblr media
Welcome back everyone! Here's part 2 of this lil' AU fic. It was gonna be longer but I already went pass the deadline for like 40 min. So I'll just continue it in the final prompt it the week. Hope you like!
@ulquihimeweek
Ulquihime Week- Day 6- Sacrifice/Possession
Black Moon Rising (Pt.2)
"Inoue, what have you done?!" Ichigo asked in disbelief.
"I did what I had to. Ulquiorra was going to die, and I saved him. That's all that matters."
"All that matters?! Have you looked at yourself?! You're a hollow now!"
"And so were you."
Ichigo looked hurt, but she didn't care. Back at Karakura, she had the same expression whenever they pushed her out of the fight. This time the tables were turned.
"That's not the same, and you know it."
"Is it now? Because if I recall correctly you brutalized Ulquiorra in ways far more horrifying than any of us could imagine, you tried to desecrate his body, you stabbed Ishida-kun when he stopped you, and you were about to kill me before Ulquiorra broke your mask and redirected the cero onto himself.
That's quite different from holding a conversation like we are doing now." She smiled venomously. This change seemed to be bringing out all of the negative emotions that she kept hidden for years. It was relishing.
"I went into that form to protect you! You called for help, I couldn't do anything so my hollow took over."
Orihime rolled her eyes. "Yes, yes, you're everyone's hero!" she sarcastically imitated her old self. "Spare me Ichigo, you didn't go into your hollow form to protect us, you did it because you lost, and you can't endure a loss!"
That got a rise out of the redhead, Uryu held him back. "Inoue, we all came here to save you! What happened wasn't ideal, but Kurosaki was just trying to help."
"Funny how you defend him after almost getting cut open, Ishida-kun.
I didn't ask anyone to come for me, the sole reason I came to Hueco Mundo was to protect everyone! But you couldn't understand that, could you? Inoue's the defenseless princess in the tower, so she must be rescued! We need to step into enemy territory without a plan, and fight everything in a ten-mile radius to save Inoue!
Well, that's done. We've all had our fights and your brushes with death, but I am finally safe. I won't return to Karakura, this form is now permanent, and I have no doubts that the shinigami will have me executed. The Orihime Inoue you knew is gone forever. Leave, tell the others I am dead, and don't return to Hueco Mundo. I won't ask nicely again."
Ichigo's anger was redirected at Ulquiorra. "You! You did this to Inoue!"
"I'm afraid you're mistaken Kurosaki. This transformation was the woman's choice, not mine. Unlike you, I believe she's wise enough to choose what's best for herself."
The shinigami prepared to attack him, but instead of clashing his blade with Ulquiorra's he was stopped by Orihime.
Upon transforming, she'd also gained a zanpakuto, her Rikka's powers had been transferred into it, and the shape of the hilt matched that of her hairpins.
“Don’t you dare touch him!” she growled.
“I’m not going to let darkness take you, Orihime. I’ll defeat whatever took possession of you and we’ll all go back home together.”
“You don’t get to decide for me. Not anymore.” From the moment she woke up, Orihime felt a shift taking place within her. Her body and soul had both changed, and this final disregard for her desires was the final nail in the coffin.’ All anyone ever saw me as was the damsel in distress, not even capable of choosing my own fate. Those days are now over.’
“Woman, do you require my assistance?”Ulquiorra asked her.
She smiled at him. “I shall fight alone, If it’s not too much trouble, could you please take Ishida-kun somewhere safe? I don’t intend to hold back.”
“Understood.”
She teleported both herself and Ichigo away from the scene. The shinigami looked ready to fight, but the moment she attacked he restored to blocking. Ichigo didn’t attack her.
‘The moron still thinks I can’t fight.’
Her eyes darkened, now gold over onyx, Orihime charged a cero into her sword. One strike of her blade all it took to break Ichigo’s zanpakuto.
“You’re out of weapons Kurosaki. I’ll let you go if you swear to leave me be.”
Instead of retreating Ichigo stood his ground. “I won’t leave you.I swore to bring you back home safe, and that’s what I’ll do!"
“You really can’t take a fucking hint, can you?!"
She raised her palm towards him, firing a golden cero. Ichigo tried to evade it, but without his Bankai, he was not fast enough. Ichigo kneeled, half of his body was bloody and mangled due to the blast, but he could survive those injuries.
“Last warning. Surrender or I will detach your head from your body.”
“I won’t! I won’t let Ulquiorra get away with what he did to you! I will save you even if I have to kill him again!"
Orihime would have just rendered him unconscious, had it not been for the threat he made against Ulquiorra, Orihime looked him in the eye directly, her gaze was steel and it seemed like in his final moments Ichigo finally understood she did this out of her own accord. Sadly, it was too late, A delicate strike of her blade cut through him, his eyes remained opened, full of realization, but also lifeless.
Orihime cleaned the blood off her sword with one stroke. ‘At long last, It’s over.’
***
There were many outcomes he had expected from the battle, seeing Orihime return to las Noches with the head of Kurosaki Ichigo was not one of them. Soon after arriving she had fainted and he took her to his room and had one of the medics look at her.
As predicted, Orihime woke up a day later. Her wounds were fully healed, and she was happy to see him as well.
“What happened after the battle?” she asked.
"Lord Aizen has won. He's the new Soul King, but I'm afraid your old town has been destroyed."
She looked sad, but didn't weep. "I see."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. This was bound to happen."
"If you feel rested enough, we were summoned to the throne room. It's urgent."
"Okay. Let's go."
The walk to the throne room was silent, yet pleasant. Orihime held his hand, and he returned the gesture. It seemed she was fond of the gesture.
Before coming into the throne room he ran into the medic that examined Orihime.
"Hello Cuarta, I see Inoue-sama is healthy." The blue haired woman extended her hand to Orihime. "Nice to meet you, my name's Jeanne Dae, I was your medic."
"Nice to meet you too, Jeanne-san. Thanks for taking care of me."
"My pleasure, I must warn you both, Lady Anna has asked for you specifically and she's slightly stressed. Best not to piss her off."
"Um, I hate to come of as ignorant but who is Anna?"
"Lord Aizen's wife. She's his second in command now and also Soul Queen. Just be polite and you'll be fine. Best of luck!"
Once the medic Arrancar left, they stepped into the throne room. He was surprised to see Halibel and her fracción there resting. Nnoitra was also there talking to Anna. She looked to be angry.
"Nnoitra, I swear, if keep pestering me I shall rip out your remaining eyeball and make you eat it!"
That made the whole room grow silent.
Orihime was slightly intimidated. Anna was six feet tall, with pale skin, black curly hair, and cold blue eyes. Those worries subsided when the woman spotted both her and Ulquiorra.
"Cuarta! You're still as handsome as ever! And you must be Orihime Inoue. I'm Anna María, it's nice to finally meet ya."
"Hello Lady Anna, it's nice to meet you too."
"I'll be quick since I'm sure you both want to rest. Now that Sosuke has finally achieved his goals we won't be returning to Las Noches. I want the both of you to rule over Hueco Mundo."
They were both surprised. Ulquiorra spoke first. "With all due respect, why would you chose us out of the remaining Arrancar?"
"Simple. You and Inoue-san were the ones who finally took down Kurosaki. He was Soul Society's triumph card and I'm certain that if he had lived the outcome of our plans would've changed. The two of you are the most powerful among our ranks and took down our greatest foe. It's only natural to have you take over. What do you say?"
Orihime felt a little uncertain, she had never taken a leadership role before, but the offer was tempting.
Ulquiorra was indifferent to the offer, still he would accept if only to keep order in Las Noches. Without Aizen some of the Arrancar might go unhinged again.
"I'm willing to accept the offer, but I'd like insurance that you, or Lord Aizen will provide us with assistance if necessary."
"You have my word, Cuarta. Inoue-san, what about you?"
"I never considered myself a leader, yet this is an opportunity I don't want to waste. I'll give it my all."
"Excellent! I knew I could count on you both. Now, there's a slightly more personal matter I must address.
Some of your friends for Karakura survived, I can relocate then to Naruki City and give them fake memories of a nuclear explosion occuring in Karakura. This way they'll safe and fully taken care of. Is that alright."
Anna handed her a tablet with pictures. She recognized Tatsuki, Keigo, Mizuiro, Chizuru, Michiru, Ryuuken, and Don Kannonji. Those were the only survivors.
"Yes. Please make sure they're taken care of, just...don't let them know I am alive. I'd prefer it if they all thought of me as dead."
"Consider it done. Finally, Yasutora Sado and Uryu Ishida are locked up in the dungeons, if you authorize it, I shall free them and get them the aforementioned services in Naruki City."
"Yes please do so."
"Alrighty then, I think that's everything. I'll be returning to my other duties, you're dismissed."
With that the tall woman left them and went back to her duties. Ulquiorra noticed she was holding her zanpakuto. 'No doubt she's been ordered to carry out executions.'
"Next on the list it's that Kuchiki Captain...Hmm maybe I'll choke him with that dumb scarf of his." Anna was walking away towards the cells. A reckless idea crossed Orihime's mind.
"Wait Anna-san! May I be granted permission to visit Ishida and Sado?"
Anna was skeptical but allowed it anyway. "Yes, of course. I'll escort you."
***
Ulquiorra waited in the entrance to the dungeons. He knew Inoue was capable of handling herself yet he felt uneasy.
"You're jealous the princesa wants to visit those other men."
Grimmjow appeared from the shadows, it seemed Anna had him as a guard.
"What do you want Sexta?" he asked.
"Nothing. Just heard you and Orihime are the new rulers of Hueco Mundo. I'd congratulate ya but I don't think you find that new role appealing."
"That's unimportant. I took the task because it clear that the others wouldn't be able to properly carry it out."
Grimmjow grinned. "Uh-huh, and what about your mate? She probably did it so that Anna wouldn't chop her human friends to pieces."
Those words bothered him. "The woman isn't my mate."
"She turned into a hollow to save ya, and even ripped Kurosaki to pieces. That screams protective mate to me.
Yer' right though, it's not my business what you two do. Just pray she doesn't change her mind. The girl is too far gone to go back."
***
Orihime let them rage and yell before saying a single thing. After their anger faded she spoke.
"I need you both to stay calm. Ishida-kun your father is alive and will be given proper housing and employment in Naruki City as will most of your friends and as will you. Just let Anna escort you there and do not tell the others of my real fate. For all they know, Kurosaki and I were victims of the fake accident."
"...I don't believe this! You expect us to keep quiet?! Tatsuki was a wreck over losing you, she won't accept it, she'll know it's a lie!"
"Then make her believe it! You're a smart guy Uryu, she will listen to you, the memories are better than..."
"Than knowing what you turned into and what you did to Kurosaki?" Chad asked.
Orihime hit the wall in frustration, it almost fell apart. "He threatened to kill Ulquiorra!" she yelled. "I wasn't going to kill him, I was going to leave him slightly messed up and let him go home when the war ended, but he threatened Ulquiorra. I couldn't let him kill him again. I just... couldn't."
Her friends demeanor changed to a more sympathetic one. "You love him, don't you?"
She couldn't answer. That possibility didn't cross her mind until now. Her silence was all the answer they needed.
"Kurosaki is doing alright. His soul went to the Soul Society and is reunited with his family, Anna made sure of it. She also brought Masaki to them, the Kurosaki's be living in the Shiba house."
"It's true. She came to tell us that before bringing you here."
"I see." In a way she felt freed. While there was no guilt for what she did, knowing Ichigo was well off somehow helped her close that cycle.
"I know you won't forgive me, I won't ask for that, but I will ask you, to have a good life. Take care of the others, follow your dreams and live long and happy. I will do the same, even if we are in separate world's. Just do that in the memory of the Inoue you once loved."
"I promise."
"I promise too"
Both Chad and Uryu gave her a tight hug. This would be the last time they saw eachother.
"Goodbye."
***
He didn't say anything. Not on their way back to the room, and not when he locked himself in the washroom.
Orihime knew something was amiss. Ulquiorra looked tense, angry even. She decided to speak with him.
'What am I doing? This isn't right. I'm acting just like Kurosaki did.'
Ulquiorra had ran himself a hot bath in an effort to calm down. As much as he dreaded to admit it he was enraged by Grimmjow's words. When Orihime returned from her talk with the humans, she had tears running down her face and a faint sad smile.
'She's regretting it. She regrets giving up her life for me. That was a sacrifice that should've never taken place.'
Still, it was wrong of him to act so cold towards her. Instead he should offer her solace. 'I'm all she had left.'
Before he could get out of the marble pool and go back into his room, he saw her standing in the doorway. "Can I join you?" she asked shyly.
Ulquiorra swallowed hard. Orihime had nothing but a towel on, and her pretty face was adorned with a faint pink blush.
"Yes, you may join me." He finally answered with a raspy voice.
He turned away as she uncovered herself, only facing her once she was covered up to her chest by water. Even so, her curves didn't leave anything to the imagination.
"Ulquiorra. We need to talk."
"What do you wish to talk about?"
"What happened down at the dungeons."
He braced himself, and spoke as calmly as possible. "You wish to return to you original form. It's understandable as your sacrifice shouldn't have happened so I shall do what's in my power to help you-"
Orihime placed her fingers on his lips, silencing him. It was then when he felt tears forming in his eyes
Orihime chuckled. "No, you're mistaken. I don't want to go back and I don't regret what I did.
Ulquiorra, I didn't hesitate to sacrifice my humanity for you. I knew what the consequences would be and didn't care. You matter more to me than anything or anyone else, and I don't ever want you to doubt that. I want to be with you forever, Ulquiorra Schiffer."
He felt the tears spilling. Never in his life did he think he could find anyone that would truly love him, yet here she was. From the moment they met he felt drawn. It was as if an otherworldly force took possession of him, and urged him to keep her at his side. Yet when Kurosaki almost killed her, he didn't hesitate to sacrifice himself for her. Now she had done the same for him, and they could be together for all eternity.
"Forgive me for my embarrassing behavior. I shouldn't have doubted you.
I shall confess that I didn't care for much before meeting you, my life was nothing but a dark endless void, until you filled it with light. Your optimistic nature, your melodic voice, your bravery, it is all very enticing. I thought our story would end when Kurosaki turned me into ash, yet it didn't.
You wouldn't let us have a bitter end, regardless of the cost. And I vow to prove your sacrifice to be worth it, every single day."
Orihime smiled wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him close. "It's a promise, my dear Ulquiorra."
She crashed their lips together into a lustful kiss. Ulquiorra had never considered himself to be a lustful man, until that moment. He wanted nothing more than to ravish Orihime until they were both exhausted.
"Let's go back to our room, darling. There's a lot I want to do with you."

Word Count: 1859

Notes: this is for the @darknightvirgil 's Christmas exchange: I had @adultmorelikeadolt so enjoy my friend!!!
also, how do you title haha. this was a direct stream of consciousness so I have no clue how good/bad this actually is because it just seemed so good in my head...
and on AO3:
Taglist: @creativity-killed-thekitten
Logan stared blankly at his computer screen. He knew that he had been working too hard for too long without a break, but the next video still wasn't close to being ready and he couldn't let the fans down again. They had had to wait so long for the last video and he could not let it happen once more. He wanted to go down and see them all, but he just had so much left to do.
Roman had repeatedly told him to take care of himself more. And Logan knew that he was letting his boyfriend down, and pushing him away, but he had to get this finished goddamn it.
There was a knock at the door.
"Uh, yes. Come in."
Roman burst dramatically into the room.
"Hello, my one true love! I have come to drag you out of this dungeon! You are under arrest for overworking yourself and not seeing your boyfriend! We're going Christmas shopping, specs! Get yourself presentable and then get yourself outta here!"
"Uh, well Roman, I should really finish this off before going out anywhere. It's not that I don’t want to be with you, not at all my dearest. But this is important and there will be time for trivialities after I have got this done. I promise."
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice on this one, Specs! Christmas is in only a few days and then it will be over, the fans can wait on this one. And anyway, I want to spend Christmas with you, not have you in here by yourself. Take a break, Nerd!"
"But- I-" Logan looked down at his work and sighed. "Alright then. I was rather missing you anyhow."
Roman held out his hand and Logan took it, allowing himself to be pulled up into Roman's arms.
"I love you, gorgeous." He whispered into Logan's ear, rubbing his boyfriend's back gently.
"I love you too. I'm sorry-"
"It's okay, let’s go."
~
Roman had constructed a shopping mall in the mindscape many Christmases ago to buy gifts, at first it was undeveloped; the shop keepers has empty faces and the shops felt floaty, like in an old memory that you couldn't quite remember if it was real or a dream. But as Thomas grew older Roman had more references to go from and was more accomplished at imagining things into existence. An amalgamation of the best bits of every mall Thomas had ever been to, the mall was now so well built that it felt as real to the sides as standing in Thomas's own living room. And every year at Christmas he would put Christmas decorations everywhere, and they would go Christmas shopping together.
~
Roman excitedly led Logan to the entrance to the mall, where Patton and Virgil were eagerly waiting. Well, maybe it was just Patton who was looking eager, but this was the first time Virgil had come along himself, without thinking that he was unwanted and having to be persuaded to come, so it would do.
"Okay kiddos! We'll split up now, and then all meet in the cafe again in a couple of hours, does that sound okay?" Patton was jumping up and down with excitement. "Oh, I just love getting people gifts! I'm super duperly looking forward to this!!!!!!!!!!"
"Okay, well I'll go with Roman, and you and Logan can go around together. Let's go." Virgil looked expectantly at Roman, who nodded slightly.
"Logan!!! Let's go kiddo! See you all later!!!"
Logan smiled one last time at his boyfriend before he was whisked away by Patton.
"Why did you want to come with me, Charlie Frown?" Roman may have been insulting him, but the kind smile on his face let the anxious side know that there were no hard feelings.
"Welp I didn't get much sleep last night and I knew that if I went with Logan he'd just lecture on about healthy sleep schedules and healthy caffeine intakes and it would just be rubbish. And you aren't that bad." Virgil gave a quick smirk at Roman. "Come on, I want to go get Patton some stuffed toys."
~
"Oh God Patton, what am I going to get him? He has been so incredible to me and none of this seems good enough! I can't just get him a lacklustre gift that he will look at once and then put on a shelf and forget about! I need to get him something that will show how much he means to me! But-" Logan frantically paced up and down, his speed almost matching that of his racing thoughts.
"Calm down, it's okay kiddo! Everything is okay! You don't have to get him the perfect gift, there might not be anything that shows just how much you love him, as love is so much more than things you can buy. It doesn't matter though, just get him something that shows how much you care about him. Something that shows you were thinking of him. That’s all."
"I suppose it would be stupid to attempt to convey such an abstract, intense feeling as love in simple material items. I will just get him something that I know he will like. Come on Patton! I have an idea."
~
“Oh, Virgil what am I going to do what am I going to get him? I love him so much but this time it feels like no gift, nothing I could do would show him how much I care about him. I am one for romantic gestures, you know me, but nothing I could get him would be enough for what he deserves! I have to get him something, but- “
"Dude it's okay! That guy is so in love with you you could get him one shoe for Christmas and it would become his favourite thing and would go on his special things from Roman shelf. We both know he has one. You don't have to stress out about this - it's my job to stress out about things. Just get him something that shows that you are thinking about him - all he really needs for Christmas is you."
"Virgil?"
"Yeah?"
"Virgil the emo who lives in an angst cave where it is always Halloween?"
Virgil sighed.
"Yeah?"
"Did you just reference Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'?"
"I hate to say I did. But I knew I needed something dumb and Christmassy to get to you. And anyway, I've got all of my gifts for the others, let's finish up getting yours before we have to meet up with the others, okay?"
"Okay, my dark and stormy knight. And thanks, I've just had the best idea of what to get my special Nerd!"
~
As he and Patton made their way into the cafe, Logan hoped that the ridiculous shape of the long, narrow box he was carrying wouldn't give away what it was. But when he saw Roman and Virgil, already sitting at the table next to their curious pile of bags and boxes of equally strange sizes, his worries left him. His boyfriend looked amazing. And it looked like Virgil was somehow already on his third cup of coffee.
"Are we late?" Roman spotted Logan looking nervously at Virgil’s coffee mugs
"No Virgil just decided to order three cups at once to avoid having to queue again. Anyway, how did it go, my beloved? Was it worth coming out?"
"OF THE CLOSET!" Patton burst out, laughing as he sat down next to Virgil.
"It went very well, Roman, my love. I have got everything I needed, and- well- I am glad to be back here with you." Logan felt himself blush and smiled, thinking of spending time with Roman: his work forgotten.
"I am too, my shining star."
~
It was Christmas day and Patton had woken them all up at exactly the time he was allowed to. (After one year when Patton had woken them all up at 4:30 in the morning because he was awake and excited and wanted to open his presents as soon as possible, they had enforced a strict "no waking people up before 8:30 on Christmas day" policy.)
Patton handed Virgil a cup of coffee, Logan a cup of tea, Roman a cup of peppermint tea, and excitedly led them all to the living room, where the presents were piled under the tree.
"IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!!!"
"Yes Patton, and we are very tired so please don't yell in my ear." Logan took a long sip of his tea, and looked across at Patton who was bouncing up and down like a child. "Right then Patton do you want to go first?"
Patton excitedly grabbed a package - it was from Roman. He hurriedly tore at the paper, until out came a Winnie the pooh plushie.
"Oh my God Roman I love it! Aaaaaagh thank you!!!!!" Patton was positively bouncing.
"Squeeze the paw Patton."
The Winnie the pooh song started playing.
"Aaaaaaaagh!!!!!!!! It's perfect!!!!!!!"
And they continued like that, taking it in turns to open presents until there were just two left under the tree.
"Logan, for you, my precious."
"Way to sound like Gollum" Virgil muttered, and Roman shot a glare in return.
Logan slowly unwrapped the present, the last and biggest present from his boyfriend. He methodically cut each piece of tape, to reveal-
"A telescope! Wow Roman- I- Thank you so much I have always wanted to look at the stars outside my window properly."
"I just imagined you looking through the telescope and explaining to me the constellations. It would be so romantic and I know you would have lots to tell as you always wanted Thomas to be an astronomer."
"I would love that Roman! Now, here you go, and be careful with it." He handed Roman the long package.
"I have been so curious about what this could be!!" He started to unwrap the meticulously wrapped present.
"It could be a pogo stick." Virgil remarked.
"Or a tube of jelly beans. You know how you can get the long tubes and they are full of jelly beans and they-"
"We know them, Patton.” Virgil smiled fondly at Patton. “It could be a long thin hat."
"It could be a broomstick. I don’t know why Logan would get him a broomstick but it could be."
Roman finally rolled the box out of the wrapping paper. He gasped.
"I thought you said it was too dangerous!"
"Well I know how much you enjoyed it so..."
"What is it? What is it?" Patton leant over to get a closer look.
"My wonderful, amazing, perfect boyfriend who I love has gotten me a new KATANA!!!"
"And this one is weighted so it is actually statistically easier to use and will result in less chance of you getting injured, whilst being more effective in battle. I made sure to do quite a lot of research before buying to ensure I got the right one, so I hope it is satisfactory."
Roman grinned.
"It is more than satisfactory, Nerd. I love you so much, did you know that?"

Hii love!! I love your blog soooo much! I'm so glad that you still do fic recs! I wanted to ask for one (if you can't do it I totally understand) Can you please make a list where Harry and Draco are roommates at Hogwarts? (Preferably with smut included) THANK YOUUU ❤️
hi! could you possibly rec specifically a slow burn 8th year fic for me where h/d are in the same room?? maybe like written on the heart or lumos. thank you so much & i hope you’re having a lovely day!!💗
Hello, lovelies! I love this trope so so much, and I’ve been looking forward to making this list for weeks! Since you both specified Hogwarts/8th year, I’m not going to include any fics in which Harry and Draco share a flat after graduating. There are a lot of fics like that as well, but that’ll have to be for another list!
Hogwarts Roommates HD Fic Recs
Lumos by birdsofshore (41.5K)- Harry never expected to spend eighth year listening to Draco Malfoy wanking.I loved loved loved this fic absolutely to death. If you know me, you know I love some good old shameless wanking, and THIS FIC HAS JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF IT (that is to say- a lot). And then there were even a few incredibly touching moments as well, and it’s truly a perfect roommate fic
Written on the Heart by who_la_hoop (114K)- Harry doesn’t mind that so many Slytherins from his year have returned to finish their NEWTs, really he doesn’t. It’s just – do they have to be so friendly? He’s not prejudiced, really he’s not. It’s just – they’ve got to be up to something, right? Unnerved by the attention he’s attracting from everyone – the Slytherins are the least of it, to be fair – and struggling with a raft of changes to Hogwarts itself, Harry wishes he could be happy that one constant remains: Draco Malfoy really fucking hates him. When he’s hit by an illegal love-spell though, Harry finds he has more to worry about than whether or not Blaise Zabini actually wants to be his friend. For if everyone affected has been blessed – or cursed, by the look on Malfoy’s face – with a magical tattoo revealing the name of their soulmate, what does it mean that Harry’s skin remains completely bare?FUCKING INCREDIBLE LONGEST SOULMARK AU EVER, which basically means I will forever love this fic with all of my heart. Harry has to move to the Slytherin (SLYTHERIN!!!) boys dorm, so it’s not just H/D alone as roommates, but IT COUNTS. Another all-around amazing fic with too many good parts to praise
Something I don’t Want to Stop by traintracks (16K)- It’s Harry and Draco’s eighth year, the Houses have been all but demolished in favor of unity, and they’re being forced to room together. How ever will they cope?I dare you to read this summary and then tell me you don’t want to read the fic. You CAN’T, because it’s everything you’ve ever wanted in a roommate fic!!! THEY EVEN HAVE TO TEACH A CLASS TOGETHER!!! And there may or may not be more wanking 👀
The Standard You Walk Past by bafflinghaze (46K)- On returning to Hogwarts for their Eighth Year, Headmistress McGonagall decided to room Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter together. She may have hoped for a leading example of house unity; the other students fully expected insults and fights. But nothing happened. That was, until Harry sleepwalked into Draco’s bed.WHO DOESN’T LOVE SLEEPWALKING??? (hint: the answer is nobody). A very sweet and fluffy (and a little angsty) slow burn. Also, there’s a really cool aspect/trope that I only caught on to halfway through the fic, and I was shocked that I’d missed it! Read and see if you’re more discerning than I was!!
Kiss the Joy (Until the Sun Rise) by ICMezzo (38K)- The Room of Requirement was severely damaged in the war, but not so much that it could not provide for one lost student and another young hero—especially when they needed each other most of all.Okay this is probably not exactly what the anons were thinking of when they asked for Drarry being roommates at Hogwarts, but technically this fic does fit within those parameters! Harry and Draco both hide from the real world in the weeks immediately following the war, and they BOTH chose to hide in the Room of Requirement. Petty fights and slow reconciliation follows. Truly amazing and beautiful (slow burn!) fic!!
Instruction for a Misplaced Slytherin by @bixgirl1 (8.5K)- Potter stared at him with an intense, indecipherable expression. He cleared his throat. “You know what? It would be easier to learn if you just showed me,” he said abruptly. In which Draco has a crush but fancies himself kind, Harry is oblivious but overly ambitious (and the teensiest bit sneaky), and things get dirty really fast.MY (not at all) GUILTY PLEASURE 8TH YEAR ROOMMATE FIC!!! Jesus, I could read this one 3289 times and still squeal in excitement every time because DAMN it’s hot. DRACO. TEACHES. HIS. ROOMMATE. HARRY. HOW. TO. SEX.
Unexpected Consequences by lauren3210 (39K)- Harry was going back to school. He was going to play Quidditch, sleep in lessons, hang out with his friends, and generally just enjoy being a kid for a change. And he was also going to do it while being bonded with Malfoy, because apparently life was just going to continue throwing curveballs at him. Harry didn’t know why he expected anything different.I love this fic so so dearly! I suppose it technically fits more on a “magical bonds” list (and it’ll go on there when I make that one!) but they’re also roommates and they have their own private fancy suite and it’s a BLESSING. The bond forces Draco to do whatever Harry says so the Ministry can allow him back at school— and also so we can read some amazing af flangst
Crup-tion of the Not-So-Innocent by Calanthe (17K)- If you thought that befriending Draco Malfoy would be easier than defeating the Dark Lord you’d be wrong. Harry Potter has to grow another pair of legs and a forked tail before he can break down the frosty barrier blocking the way into Malfoy’s heart (and his underpants).Harry and Draco both have to live in the dungeons when they return to Hogwarts the summer after the war (because those are the only rooms left in tact). Draco refuses to even consider being amicable to Harry. That is, until Harry gains a new skill and Draco turns out to be a surprise animal lover ;)
Stay With Me by jeni_andtheafterthought (2.5K)- With some effort, Draco Malfoy can keep his eyes off Harry Potter. Though, he can’t help hearing him. Some god old eighth year roommate getting together smut.
In Evidence of Magical Theory by @bixgirl1 (43.5K)- In which Harry and Draco can’t fight, and so they fall in love instead. When a hex meant for Draco accidentally catches Harry as well, the pair are forced to learn to understand each other in ways they previously might have thought impossible.Another forced bonding fic!!! I’m such a sucker for them. They don’t start out as roommates in this one, but they definitely end up there! And as… bed mates hehehehe. Also the magical theory in this fic is fantastic and I loved thinking about it so much and there should be a thousand fics based on the background info in this one!!!

Treasure hunt Part 3
Tumblr media
Pairing: dragon!Steve Rogers x Reader
Warnings: yandere, obsession, kidnapping, Stockholm Syndrome, forced pregnancy.
Words: 1884.
Summary: No knight would dare to save a sacrificial bride of the dragon.
Part 1
Part 2
_____________
"Don't you dare hurt her!" The boy's desperate voice cut through the heavy silence, and Steve saw his long scaled tail with a razor-edged tip just like his own. "Step away, or I will burn you to ashes!"
Steve's son had his face, child's light blue eyes burning with hatred and pure savagery at the sight of his father, the one who had been chasing him before he was even born. The boy had his golden hair, too, shining in the sun. Everything in his look reminded Steve of himself when he was younger, but he could see your features in the boy's face, and the way he moved, talked and thought was yours, undoubtedly.
"You are my flesh and blood." The man whispered, amazed, confused. "Your fire can't hurt me."
His son sent him a triumphant smile, baring his sharp teeth, and reached out to his pocket to grab an odd small bottle. Oh, Steve didn't like it.
"We'll see about that."
Once the boy opened the bottle, Steve felt a repulsive scent filling his nostrils. It was the goddamn pyrite potion. Once consumed, it would give his son the power to burn both Heaven and Hell. Gods, how did he learn about the potion? Where did he find it? What did he give in return?
"Run." Your weak voice made the boy look at you with both fear and sadness, but then Steve saw determination in his face. "I'll hold him! RUN!"
Your grip on his shoulder became harder, but both of you knew no one could detain Steve here longer - except for his son and the pyrite potion in his clawed hands. His little child was only ten by now, yet he had eyes of a grown man, tired, anxious, desperate. He was well prepared to fight for you, the mother that kept him hidden when Steve roamed the earth, searching for you two for more than a decade.
The deep hatred in his child's eyes made the man shook.
"You can burn half of your face with that." The dragon said, pointing to the little bottle carefully with his human finger.
"If it means the world will get rid of you, I'm ready to burn myself, too."
_______________
Steve woke up with you hovering above him and shaking him by the shoulders in distress. His face was wet - apparently, he had been crying in his sleep, horrified by the pure nightmare he saw, the image of his son drinking the pyrite potion in front of him forever captured in his memory. Looking at your face pale with worry, the dragon wept and snuggled against your round belly. It was all a dream. It did not happen. Yet.
He let out a loud cry and kept his eyes shut while you were caressing his soft hair, afraid to  ask for an explanation as he was shaking against your body. You didn't understand what was happening to him, but he felt too weak to talk.
His own son was ready to kill himself if it meant Steve would stop following him and his mother. His dear little child became so hateful and bitter he wanted nothing else than to see his father's death.
What had Steve done? How much did he hurt his boy and you to make the both of you hate him to such extent?
He couldn't bear to think of it.
"It is alright." You cooed lovingly and pressed his blond head to your bulging belly. "It is alright, dear. You're safe. I'm here with you."
Steve felt deeply disgusted at himself, listening to your lovely voice: he was the one whose rile was to keep you safe and sound, and yet he abused you instead, locking you inside his cave, making you do what you were told, forcing you to bear his child. He believed you grew to love him, but was it true? What choice did you have rather than submitting to him?
He had been blind, thinking he could make you love him. Love couldn't be forced. He had to earn it.
"I'm sorry." He uttered, afraid to look at you and keeping his eyes shut. "I'm sorry!"
You froze on the spot, unsure of what you just heard. Did he apologize? Why? For what? What did he had to do to apologize for it? You couldn't remember the last time he said sorry to you, regardless of what he did. He thought he had always been right, always. To think of it, he hadn't been too cruel to you, but you had never pushed him to. As soon as you realized his power was absolute, you gave up, not willing to risk it. Your first attempt to flee failed because of the dragon fruit you'd eaten the day you met Steve, and all other attempts were worthless as you couldn't leave the cave without his permission. What else could you do? No magic treasure of his was able to kill him, his scales and ancient dragon charms protecting him fully.
You had to live with it. Thankfully, Steve had treated you kindly once you stopped rebuffing him, even taking you outside with him when he deemed it useful to keep you healthy and content.
What was he saying sorry for, though? You didn't believe he had finally felt remorse after many months of keeping you with him.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sor..." He kept whispering feverishly until you bended over and kissed the top of his head, concerned with his state. "What have I done? What have I done?"
You didn't know what dark thoughts he harboured, but you were frightened. You had never seen him like that. You wished you knew what he was thinking.
"It's alright, darling. You're going to get better."
"No, no!" He cried softly, kissing your belly over and over again. "It's all my fault. If it's going to happen, it's all my fault."
Ah, he probably saw something terrible in his sleep. That was it, you thought. Of course, what else did you expect from Steve? He wasn't human. You doubted he knew what it was like to be trapped against your will, even if you had feelings for him. He had never obeyed anyone and lived free as a jaybird. Steve was the one and only King who ruled over these lands, what could he know about your fears and pain?
"It wasn't right. What I've done... it wasn't right. I'm sorry, my love, I'm sorry, for I have hurt you."
Your eyes flew open at his words when you stared at his soft golden hair, running your hand over his lovely locks. Gods, what did he see in that nightmare of his? What had forced these words out of his mouth?
"I should have never made you to stay against your will..." Steve's cries had finally ceased and he lifted his head, his face red and puffy, blue eyes glowing in the dark. "I have been blind. I... I give you my word, I will not make you stay here any longer."
"W-what are you saying, Steve?"
Would he let you go? Would he let you return back to people instead of locking you in his dungeon? For the moment you forgot how to breath, watching the dragon with both fear and an odd excitement.
"You said you were travelling before the villagers took you away, didn't you?" He sounded calmer, but his heated gaze showed he was still agitated as his palms gently brushed against your belly. "Do you want to travel again? Do you want to see the world?"
"Yes!" Your answer was immediate, your eyes sparkling with happiness - he hadn't seen you so joyful for a long time.
"Then we will leave tomorrow morning." He whispered and moved up, sitting close to you on your spacious bed high above the ground, furs and blankets all over the bedsheets. "I will take you to the East to show you the most attractable secrets of the Orient. Or would you like to fly up to the South to see the Great Ocean? The Sacred Mountains of the Northen island? Would you want to see the waterfalls of the Acient?"
"Yes! I want to see them all!" Tears of joy filled your eyes, and Steve smiled at you, cupping your face with his hot hands. "Let's do it, my love! Let's leave this place for good!"
Then he leaned forward to you and left a tender kiss on your forehead, brushing away your hair. You looked so cheerful, contented, extremely pleased with him like never before. It was so easy to make you happy, yet he had always thought you were happy enough with him in that cave of his, stuffed with all those things you cared little for. Why was he so stuborn? Why had he forgotten what his own mother had taught him when he was a boy? He had forgotten what the true kindness meant.
"'Tomorrow morning we will leave." The dragon assured you, leaving little kisses on your face here and there, his eyes welling up. "Don't worry, you won't have to ride me as you did when I brought you here, I will make you... a rickshaw! A cart of some kind where you'll be safe and sound."
Amazed at his enthusiasm, you burst out laughing and shook your head, wiping away your tears with the back of your hand. You didn't know what he saw in his dream, but you were ready to keep thanking the gods for eternity for sending the dragon this nightmare. You were free to leave. You could see the world as you had always dreamed, a dragon at your side to protect you and the child growing fast in your belly. You couldn't pretend you wanted to abandon your own child and the man who, aside from keeping you captive, loved you like no one else did. If only Steve was more perceptive of what he was doing, realizing he might be wrong instead of claiming he always knew what was better for your and the child...
But maybe you had a chance to make him understand now. Maybe from now on everything would be different.
"We need to sleep, sweetheart." Steve whispered gently, helping you to lay down on the side - your big belly didn't let you to sleep on your back. "We'll have a lot to do tomorrow."
"Yes." You answered and snuggled closer to him, his breath tickling the top of your head. "Yes, my love. Sweet dreams."
"Sweet dreams."
Watching you close to him, Steve let out a loud breath, finally calming down. Yes, it was right. He needed to take you away from this place. He needed to give you the life you always wanted and make you happy so you would never leave his side. He needed to raise his child with affection and care, watching him grow as a boy loved deeply by his parents, not a little fugitive with a heart full of hatred and desire to kill. The boy didn't deserve a future like this. No one did.
"I will never let it happen." The dragon whispered after making sure you fell asleep. "The stars of heaven shall fall, but I will never make you suffer this fate."
