#i hate participating in capitalism

Hearing people talk about the need to build more affordable housing in the US makes me physically sick with frustration. The "housing shortage" is artificial. We need redistribution, not continued production. I get that the laws aren't there. They should be. I'm so tired of people pretending there aren't dragon-hoards of vacant housing. We don't need to build more, we need a revolution to let people fill in the spaces which already exist in their area. Not letting someone have a house that's been empty for years, just because they don't have money... I can't understand it. It's the most basic thing. Once you have shelter, you can start to come back to yourself enough to get the rest of your life together. *sigh* I understand that building more houses is necessary under this stupid fucking system, because a revolution is much more difficult and slow, and people need housing ASAP. I just get so mad thinking about how there are physically plenty of spots they could be (There are over 20 vacant homes in the US for each homeless person), and people are using profit and capitalist principles as an excuse to keep them from being there.

Good news! After doing the maths, I realised I could lower the prices even further-

So, yes. Moving from etsy to Ko-fi... messy. And I was (am) really nervous about losing all my good ratings and reviews (though they are still visible if you look at my etsy page, I think?), making no sells at all, etc... and yes that is still a worry.

However. After taking a closer look at the numbers once I made a sale and seeing that the cut paypal takes is slightly smaller than I anticipated, I have now lowered the prices :)

(I also want to point out that the shipping fee is per order, NOT per item.)

i really just do not trust makeship. i feel like people should think more about where their merch is physically being made before hopping on a bandwagon, ESPECIALLY for something as complex and labor-intensive as limited run plushies.

makeship talks a lot about how much they take care of their artists and design/logistics team, but has nothing about their manufacturers on their website. all of their employees are remote, which is something they brag about on their site, so i'm certain they outsource the actual plush creation. given their prices and what i know about plush manufacturing, i don't have much faith that the people actually making the plushies are paid/treated well.

I know this one guy who enjoys doing this singular menial labor task when they can set their own hours, only work to their personal standard, focus only on the aspects of the work they personally find fulfilling, only do the work either by themselves or exclusively with their close personal friends, only share the benefits of that work with either themselves or the people they personally care about, and quit whenever they stop enjoying it. This means that if we get rid of capitalism everyone would just sorta be cool about it and work the lithium mines.

always loved this analogy and okay not that I think anyone following me needs to be more radicalized, but here's where things get absolutely fucked:

The opposite of "it's more expensive to be poor than rich" is that the easiest way to make money, is to have money. Goes without saying that inheriting wealth is the "easiest", and obviously people with a lot of money can invest in into assets/seek out passive income from owning property etc. but what's really absolutely totally fucked about it, is that you don't even need to spend a fucking penny or lift a finger if you are rich enough.

Let's say you have a neat little £1,000,000, for the average person (almost 10% of the world could be considered millionaires) it's a decent amount of money, you might be able to live off of just the 1,000,000 without making more money, but considering that would be £12,500 a year for 80 years, it's a little dicey, you know, cost of living and all. So you could invest in assets for ongoing income, like renting out property, or owning a company, or trading in stocks etc. which would be how make more money most conveniently, but what if you just couldn't be bothered and were feeling really lazy, what if you didn't want to spend your money?

Conveniently, you don't have to. You can just save it, and the bank will make money for you. If you had just a 3% interest rate, and you put £1,000,000 into savings, after a year, your savings goes up by £30,000, that's a salary. If you had a £1,000,000, you literally would get a fucking job's worth of money FOR DOING NOTHING WITH THE MONEY THAT YOU HAVE. Once you have enough money, it literally makes itself, winners keep winning, and losers have to pay.

And bear in mind, this is a "relatively" low £1,000,000 with and interest of 3%. If I had say, £100,000,000 at 5% interest, that would be £5,000,000 per year, in interest.

Let's say, I had £1,000,000,000 (Being a billionaire is a lot less common than being a millionaire, there are 2781 currently, for a total of 0.00003% of the world population). 5% of that is £50,000,000.

Obviously people this rich aren't just sitting around with all their wealth in a savings account, but like the point is that it doesn't fucking matter what they do, wealth will literally coalesce because that is how the system works.

Capitalism is the biggest god damn fucking scam in the world, success under capitalism means not having to participate under capitalism. If you are wealthy, the owner of the bootmakers will give you free boots because you 'deserve' it, you've earned it by having enough, and you wouldn't have enough if you hadn't earned it, of course.

According to the owners at least, apparently the people actually making the boots have to pay for them if they want them.

So wait, let me just ask for clarity because I want to understand. Do you support AI art?

i support art made with spontaneous and hands-off processes, i support the creation of art tools that are more art than tool & allow people to "participate" in someone else's creation vicariously a-la picrew, i don't support the institution of "AI" as a consumer grade technology industry that promises impossible things and prioritizes appearances and marketability over usability, i believe that if "AI" allowed people to siphon images directly from their brain with no effort required then it would be a good thing but I believe this is fundamentally impossible until we figure out how to read minds and the focus on arguing for or against accessibility is missing the point, i believe AI art can only ever be a pale imitation of the process of commissioning an artist who can't ever ask questions and cannot be trusted with object permanence, I believe copyright law is a head on the hydra of capitalism and doesn't serve artists, i believe that AI art isn't necessarily art theft but it CAN overfit to its data and create illegal works without telling you, which constitutes criminal levels of negligence, I believe all art is derivative in some way and some of the most seminal art made in this era of history has been far more dubiously infringing than AI art ever can be because AI art does not steal in the way a human does, I think the focus on energy consumption is transparently just a post-hoc justification for hating the thing you all already hated under the guise of environmentalism because it is a problem far from unique to AI, I think the focus on environmentalism was a distraction at best during the NFT craze too, i don't think AI art takes artists out of a job any more than stock photos or clipart does, but the proliferation of consumer-grade tools DOES run the risk of engendering bad client practices similar to the rise of machine translation and asking translators to simply "fix" a machine translated run of text at a marked down price, but this is not the fault of the technology itself and is instead a result of the ideological push being made by the biggest actors in the industry, i think AI art is ugly as sin and carries the pervasive quality of looking normal at a glance but getting worse and worse the longer you look at it, which can be interesting but often isn't, i think ai art is shit google images and the controversy is overblown but I think machine learning is here to stay and it will inevitably decentralize again after the immense costs catch up to all the corpos relying on it to win the future.

summary. a series of random headcanons from the universe! part 1 of many because i have lots of thoughts about these two

𝐩𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬!𝐚𝐮 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭

kinich and the princess have known about each other for a long time, but it’s only recently that they’ve really talked a lot and become close (since kinich became your guard)

kinich is a bit more open in this universe because although he grew up an orphan, he was recruited into the guard earlier and taken care of by his fellow trainees and the castle staff. he’s still pretty serious and deadpan at his core but he has a bit of silly in him too 

the maids especially used to dote on him a lot. they would coo about how beautiful his eyes are and sneak him cakes and sweets from the kitchen

kinich and the princess actually had one key interaction when they were children that she doesn’t remember

the princess came down with a bad illness and had to stay in her room for about a week. kinich was assigned guard right outside her room, but she never saw him. still, they used to talk a lot during that week through her door, and she never quite figured out who her temporary friend was.

princess used to be *very* spoiled and she knows this. kinich is one of the only people who knocks her down a peg, and he also taught her how to do a lot of practical things (i.e. cleaning, cooking, weaving) 

kinich takes his shirt off by grabbing the back of his collar and pulling it over his head (idk if i’m describing this well, but the image in my head is INSANE). 

once they actually get together, kinich is the type to kiss the princess’s tears away when she cries (i’m going to scream)

kinich secretly has always known he loved the princess in some capacity, maybe since the day he was inducted as her guard (he looked up into her eyes, knelt before her, and felt something burst in his chest). he doesn’t feel like he deserves her love in return and feels so committed to his duty that he won’t do anything about it.

kinich isn’t afraid of dying, but he’s afraid of leaving the princess alone. it’s the reason why he insists on teaching her so many practical things like fighting—he doesn’t trust anyone else to protect her like he can.

there’s a yearly tournament among the guards (and any citizens that want to enter) that is held to win the royals’ favor. kinich is required to participate due to his position, but he tries a lot harder than he lets on—something about letting another guard win kind of irritates him. he wins your ribbon as a prize, a sign of your personal favor, and keeps it on him at all times. he claims it’s just to prove that you owe him.

kinich is a TERROR in the capital marketplace. sellers love him and hate him—he’s fair, but he barters like HELL. you, on the other hand, are any easy target. you will pay pretty much any price they name, and this irritates kinich greatly.

kinich is in charge of training newer recruits to the guard, and older members will warn them not to mention the princess in front of him. last time someone said something disrespectful about her, kinich had them running laps until the sun came up.

most mornings, kinich trains at sunrise. the princess will come out to join him sometimes, either to just lay down in the grass and talk, or to bring out a picnic

many princesses from other nations are attracted to kinich, but he does not return the sentiment—whenever one tries to talk to him, he acts extremely dry and boring on purpose until they lose interest.

kinich has a lot of piercings, but they're not always optimal to fight in—on days when he expects a battle, he wears a pair of studs that the princess gifted him

the castle maids have a running bet on how long it will take you and kinich to get married. sometimes they try to push it along by telling kinich you're looking for him when you aren't, just to pull the two of you together. the pot is over one million Mora, and at some point, the queen joins as well.
