welp I just noticed it's september... guess I should probably call it quits on that "short" summer break, right? 😬

I have been slowly working on building up my queue while also doing a whole lot of not simming and will probably rip the bandaid off and unpause my queue tomorrow. I'm not ready but if I wait until I'm completely ready I'll never actually be ready, you know?

I had big plans to rework the format for my character and chapter intros and play with using tumblr polls to let y'all make some decisions for us, like who next is going to join New Promise or naming a llama. (Important stuff!) But then you forget what improvements you wanted to make and think better of locking yourself into any given plan — or just realize that the llama quite simply is named Queso. so I'm just going to do my best to keep it simple.

anyway this is just me rambling to say hi, I'm back. 💗 I hope summer has treated you well. I hope it's been easy — it often isn't, more often than not, but it should be. I'm excited to get back to Evergreen Harbor and see everybody again — and some new faces too.

everyone thinks that they know us, but they know nothing about…

this album has been such a rewarding piece to create and im so glad that soon enough you will all be able to listen and enjoy it with me! one thing i love in particular about this album is the song ‘dress’

dress was originally a piece i started to write when making reputation however i felt it was right to keep it to myself, to keep it between my partner and i for a little while longer. however recently our lives have been changing for the better, and while that lid of privacy will still be on, i want to share more with you guys

you have all been on this journey with me and you have treated my partner and i with the upmost respect and for that i thank you. for me dress is a letter, its statement, its a declaration of my love for him and im very grateful to be able to give this to you all

Somewhere in the Tangles of Rexxentrum...

Back in early summer of 2022, when I was writing the first chapter of of blossoming hearts and glittering souls I was faced with figuring out the layout of Caleb and Essek's home as it exists in my post-canon fics, prompted by the layout of the kitchen completely changing between two scenes. I did some shitty sketches on my phone for the time being, but then The Mighty Nein Reunited happened and I had a vision of a sunroom classroom for Caleb to tutor Soltryce rejects in, and then suddenly I found myself spending like a month building their house in the Sims 4. This is that house! I've been meaning to show it off for literally like a year and a half and recent events in C3 have finally provided me the catalyst I needed to put this post together. Beneath the cut you will find as many screenshots of it as I can fit in this post. I hope you enjoy! I'm still very proud of it.

Having some Tashiro (and prev pres) Thoughts

mostly just re-hashing things my fellow tashiro fans have said but I just felt like making my own post about it. be warned i wrote this while on a 4 hour drive on paper so im not sure how the length translates into a post, this will be a long one haha. also beware of inconsistent caps lock usage.

OBLIGATORY WARNING FOR SASAMIYA FIRST AND SECOND YEAR NOVEL SPOILERS

This whole thing was mainly brought on by two things, one is my non-ssmyverse friend dming me a twt screenshot with the most bland and uninspired description of tashiro's character ive ever read, signaling to me that tumblr has really spoiled me with the good tashiro takes. the other thing was that i got inspired to bring the first and second years novels with me on my previously mentioned long drive, which means that i got the pleasure of rereading both and, most importantly, rereading Tashiro Love & Passion. safe to say i had a lot to think about afterwards.

The whole thing really reminded me of the aspect of tashiro that i've always found interesting: his observant nature. And i dont just mean how he views others, but also how he views himself. How this perspective breaks the most of what we'd expect from a character like him, something Harusono loves to do with their characters.

From the first couple of pages in L&P alone, we get a lot of insight on how tashiro sees himself and how he bases much of that on how others view him.

He mentions a lot of clubs that he was a part of in the past or helped out with, describing his tendency not to stick around one club.

"The all-rounder." A "pinch player" anyone could call on.

I feel like this is an important place to start because just from this we see a bit of how Tashiro breaks from the mold of what an unassuming reader may expect him to be.

In the Sasamiya manga/anime, we dont really have too many chances to really view tashiro for who he is as an individual. with our limited perspective of him, we get to know miyano's friend tashiro, a bright, fun, and earnest character who says whats on his mind and is apparently on the ping pong team with hanzawa which is neat.

and if you werent a bit unhinged like myself and some others, this would be a fair assessment of his character. but ohhh boy once Love & Passion hit the towers there was no turning back.

there have been some posts getting into the themes of this chapter that i feel analyze it better than i ever could, so i wont do that, but i do want to talk about how tashiro's character is portrayed throughout the chapter.

And by far the main part that i want to focus on is how hardworking he is, and his and other's perspectives of him are effected by this.

Because tashiro is someone who wants very very badly to win, as he says numerous times throughout the chapter. Even under the guise of someday getting to quit the ping pong club, he pushes himself to get better; even going as far as practicing against the grannies and grandpas at the bath house that totally didnt adopt him.

For all his complaints, it would be easy to push off his actions as comedic. maybe, and im just making stuff up as i go, saying that he is only behaving as a stereotypical fun-loving slacker would. that his only motive truly is just to leave the club and drift through the rest of his high school days.

But then, that just isnt true is it? what kind of slacker would put so much time and effort into a club that he never even wanted to stick with in the first place?

This my dear friends, is how the Tashiro brainworms Fucking Get You.

Because why indeed, why is tashiro, who drifts through life wondering if he'll ever find his purpose, his Passion if you would, so impressive to the Previous Ping Pong Club President (prev pres) that he finds himself in line for future president?

While tashiro never really seems to figure this mystery out himself, we can take a few guesses.

While we will probably never see prev pres' thought process here (unless we get those 10k words of hanzawa lore that he'd probably be a part of) his actions speak for themselves in a way.

Afterall, this is the same president that got him stuck in this club to begin with, the same one who watched him complain, the same one who'd help drag him back whenever he would try to skip.

He's also the same president who watched him keep to their deal instead of just trying to find a way around it and quitting anyways. the same one who played against him at every practice, watching him learn and grow as a player. who saw him work hard, determined to not bring the team down, even if he wasnt as into it as the others. who saw him stick around.

in his perspective, tashiro takes multiple chances to not how he feels different from the people around him, that he has never known their "love" and never felt their "passion".

He finds himself surrounded by the Passion of others each day. His teammates, his friends, his bath house grandparents, just about everyone in the whole world. but what about him?

i mean, its not as if he's not interested in anything, he has things he likes. hobbies he enjoys. he just... never got that burning Passion, that unabashed Love for something like everyone else seems to have.

I think prev pres understood this part of him. that he saw what tashiro, for all his insightfulness, couldnt see for himself.

because for all tashiro believes that he doesnt have Passion, he sure does love to watch others indulge in theirs.

he takes note of what little he can catch while kuresawa and miyano talk BL, just so he can ask questions later. he gets to know the people at the bath house, listening as they talk about their lives and interests. and while he may not be "super into" in the ping pong club in general, he still wants to see his teammates succeed. he may never have stuck with a club for very long, but he still made himself reliable enough that he's seen as someone they can call to step in when needed.

in my mind i think that is what prev pres saw in him, how tashiro's dedication to see the Passions of others flourish assured him that the club would be safe in his hands.

and, while i cant say tashiro's passion is one specific thing right now, i can say that it encompasses every dream he wants to see grow. every love he curiously watches bloom. every ping pong match he fights to win.

Me and my bf went to GalaxyCon last weekend and had an absolute blast! Here were the highlights!:

1) We cosplayed Chris and Elise from Dan Vs. (Only one person recognized us but we still had hella fun)

2) We both met Chris Parnell and got his autograph on an Archer poster!

3) I got a picture with Amir Talai as well as his autograph too!

4) Aaand we got a bunch of cool merch!

We approached Chris Parnell as things were ending so I think we were the last fans to get to him, but honestly, BEST last minute decision ever. We had a short but nice convo about his voice acting, told him how big of fans we were, discussed some stuff about Archer, and just generally had a good talk. We got an autograph from him and I bounce off the walls every time I see it. It was so surreal meeting and hearing him IRL oh my god. I just heard Cyril every time he opened his mouth LMAO what a moment. This is for sure a core memory now.

Amir was also super nice. We didn’t share too many words because I was nervous as hell (pun not intended) but he was such a sweetheart and wanted to make sure the photos came out good and that I was happy with everything 🥹💖

And finally, merch! The sellers this year we’re seriously on top of their games. If I had a million dollars I would have bought everyone out but unfortunately had to limit myself LOLOL

Now, what does all of that mean? Well, let's take a moment to look at his Birthday Boy voicelines...

What does that say? "The Queen of Hearts' Rules state that you may eat whatever you like and speak freely on your birthday."

So where has his mother violated the rules?

One: Not allowing the birthday person to eat whatever they wish, that being a strawberry tart.

Two: Not allowing the birthday boy to speak freely, in which she refused to listen to his input, and proceeded to steamroll over any other attempts by limiting what he was allowed to eat, and by how much.

Considering their area of residence, that being the Queendom of Roses, I believe that's cause to assume that in some shape or form, the Queen of Hearts' rules exist within that country. Even if no longer strictly enforced, that this shall be taken in mind as another blatant disregard for the law, and a point against the defendant.

I rest my case.

Games to use for face claim + designing dr houses, waiting room, etc

Life Simulation are great to well…simulate your dr and offer visuals for your shifiting script. I did a post like this in the past, it was one of my very first one, so I thought I would update it.

I just tried it and it’s kind of what prompted this post. it’s great, more on the hyper realistic side, except the eyebrows colour on the female character wouldn’t change colour in my game but for the male model, it was working fine ? I have no idea how it works, but this is just a demo, not the final game. For some reason I couldn’t change the features on the child model either, I tried to do my younger siblings and nothing was moving.

The different life stages are here (no teens and no toddlers though but there are three adult life stages) and i thought the elderly looked really great. I definitely encourage you to try while the demo is on. You can see below my attempt at my dr Dad and grandma (I did try to do me, but the dark eyebrows are throwing me off, especially because I have close to no eyebrows irl)

The demo is just the character creation but I think the build mode for apartment and house might just dethrone the sims 4 for me. Although i love making fantasy houses with the sims so maybe not.

But I saw a video about the build mode and apparently you will have the ability to scan in 3D objects in your house and put them in the game, which sounds absolutely crazy !

I will also just mention paralives here, who looks interesting especially the building mode, but it’s not out yet when I’m writing this.

- the sims 4

As long as you are ok with the cartoonish style, I think it’s still a good option. Especially since mods exist and there is a way to make your sims look hyper realistic with them. Normally I don’t like alpha ccs personally , but If the goal is to make a face claim/ body claim and you don’t care your sim looks off with the rest of the game, why not?

I love building in the sims 4, i didn’t build anything in a while though. I always recommend downloading the base game since it’s free and download cc, there are tons of good one. The expansion packs are so expensive and often not worth the full price imo, especially if you’re like me and not really interested in playing in life mode.

I do think it’s a fun way to channel your dr though, by seeing how your dr sims interact with each other ( I did it for a little bit, got a lot of unexpected things happening)

- Life Makeover

The game is free, as long as you’re not weak with gacha games. I don’t spend too much, because I feel like there is enough possibilities with the outfits you gain by playing, so I’m fine not finishing limited sets. The last mermaid set was a close one, ngl but the universe heard my prayers and I got the mermaid tail with the gems I already had, so I’m not paying to pull more.

Anyway, the character creation is the best one I know. The style is in between realism and cartoony. My profile picture is made with that game. Bigger, animated like eyes look better on the character in my opinion, but I definitely saw very realistic looking characters made by people more talented than me lol. It’s one of the only game I own where I can make myself pointy elf ears and it’s very important to me lol.

Only down side for face claim is there is no male model. Then again, there is always way to work around it by making the character look more androgynous (kind of unrelated but I think there would be a market for male dress up games, they should think about it)

The big plus though is to get inspiration for your dr wardrobe ! I might have spent a whole day screenshotting my favourites piece of clothes + styling some outfits to put into my script 😂

I think it’s especially great for idol / K-pop or even celebrity dr with the style of the outfits, there is also things that would work for a fantasy/royalty dr.

Since I am talking about my addiction for dress up games once again, for fantasy outfits I also use Shining Nikki, but it doesn’t have a character creation which is why it’s not officially on this list.

Surprisingly, there is also a house building mode, which looks really great imo but definitely more limited than the sims (doing cool roofing is a nightmare in this game because the roof doesn’t disappear inside a room like it does in the sims 🥲) . - Baldur gates

Now, I’m starting with games I haven’t tried yet. Baldur gates is on my list but I’m waiting to have money to spend for it, and to have time to spend hours obsessing over a new game, which I don’t really have either right now 😂

The character creator looks incredible for fantasy drs. This is the kind of game where you spend a whole day in the character creator before you actually play.

literally any fantasy races you could think of is there, I think there are mods that add more too. I love how versatile it looks, there are a lot of skin tones, horns, lizards guys (I’m not familiar with dnd races, I’m sorry) I saw wings too but that might have been mod

- Once human

I don’t have a computer, don’t have the money for the kind I would need, the steam deck was a much more affordable option for my games, but unfortunately the steam deck doesn’t take in charge this particular game, I don’t really know why, it wouldn’t even let me try to download it anyway, like I had to do with Inzoi.

In any case, you can see the face claim of Elizabeth on her post, and it looks incredible so I still wanted to include it in the list ^^

Personally, Pinterest is not enough for me. I think it’s my autistic brain but I need to have a clear idea of the space I live in my drs, and find that having a 3D representation of the space really helps. When I get into meditation, I then get very real images about my drs in those spaces. Same goes for people, I create a representation and then can get vivid images about them in my head.

guys. its such a pretty shot. its so minimal and not anything unique but capturing yao through the flowing curtains... ugh. chef's tongue kiss.

i like the juxtaposition here between yao having told him in ep 1 that he was still whining even though he claimed to be hurt, meanwhile yao is saying that in the past fight he never made it a fuss and was fine to move on with their duties, so she should be doing the same. its cute the way they bicker and care for each other. true sibling behavior.

and yes, of course, any time ziqi can mention pushing fuyi out of the picture, he sure will. though yao is right, she doesnt want to overstay their welcome, even if she does need some time to recover. also... yaos voice is so pretty during these lines. i dont know what about it, but her relaxed composure and cosmopolitan nature is just so nice.

loveeeee how he basically reveals his real reason for wanting to stay (not that it doesnt connect right back to yao, but lets be clear, he has a mystery to solve, and asking her to recover was just a coverup) and when yao wants him to elaborate he just walks away to ponder and she sips her tea. how often is he elusive like this that she just lets him speak half-truths and such?

im not sharing screenshots of it, but i want to comment on miaomiaos interaction with her dad following this scene. i can only imagine how much it was hurting her to see her dad again, but in this universe where, in the book, hes killed for being a corrupt official. as we see later, she would rather sacrifice herself to spare her dad. its not exactly survivors guilt because she wasnt in harms way back then, but it basically is, and i feel so much for her. she continuously says all these words of wanting him to just be safe, happy, and healthy, and i wonder how much of a burden weighs on the real life miaomiao's shoulders because of this. she felt it was her fault because if she didnt get into a fight, her dad wouldve never been called in the first place, and now all she wants is for him to live well, nagging him about his health and being the concerned daughter he deserved, since he was robbed of that. ugh, my heart... how was lin yu so cruel when she had a father like this?!

Thanks for burying any serious posts about the allegations against Lily under a bunch of stupid wojaks, I’m sure she appreciates your blog for making discussions about the harm she caused harder to find and turning the whole conversation around them into a big joke.

1. I'm not. Users who have much more reach than me show up in search before I do. I realize I show up a lot, but.

2. I've signal boosted important discussions as much as I can. I've even spoken at length about a lot of them myself. Again, though, I've got limited reach.

3. A lot more people are primarily focused on those discussions. One more blog doing that won't change much.

4. Babes, I'm sorry, but you gotta understand that though, serious discussion is important, those of you who think you're going to "bring down" Lily, it's not going to happen. Lily is likely never going to be arrested for Stockholm, for this or that, for whatever. The thing Lily has the best chance (though it's also rather unlikely) of getting Lily arrested in the Canadian legal system would involve asking a certain person to do something they would have already done if they felt up to it. And I don't blame them for not wanting to put themselves through that humiliation for possibly nothing to come of it. As a victim of similar violence-- me too, frankly.

5. The reality is that trans people, women especially, are FALSELY accused of this kind of stuff constantly, especially on the internet. When I heard of Lily for the first time (this was years ago, mind you), I didn't like her. But I was hesitant to believe every single claim about her myself at first because I know the internet is like. If I hadn't dug deeper to find Lizzy and Brit's testimony, I would have assumed these were people targeting a trans woman for being abrasive on the internet. Even then, if Brit didn't have those screenshots and if Lizzy didn't seem like she had no other reason to speak out. Lily knows this and uses this to her advantage.

6. Lily's fans have heard the allegations by now. A lot of people who find Lily and like her do so because she speaks with a lot of authority and knows how to make herself sound smarter than she is. She has given them reason not to have to think about their validity. This sucks and feels as wrong to me as it does to you, but a lot of this comes down to internal bias and what people want to believe. It's vibes. So, unfortunately, what has a better chance of getting people to reconsider those more serious allegations is making Lily look foolish.

7. If you don't believe me that this is true, see how much more reach discussion of Lily's stupid Steven Universe video and her Writing Tips list has gotten over everything else. More than even Joon's video and Courtney's allegations. Again, I don't want to make it sound like that information being out there and accessible doesn't matter, it does, but. I hate it as much as you do, but people by and large would rather engage with taking the piss than the dark, heavy shit like the [alleged] actual crimes Lily has committed.

8. I think some of you overestimate the power a tumblr call-out post can have. I'm sorry.

9. I'm not going to sit here and fluff my own ego that my intentions here are entirely altruistic. They're not. Lily personally bothers me. As a trans person, as a victim of CSA/SA, as someone who's been in an abusive relationship with someone Lily reminds me of, as a person who cares about socialist politics and media literacy. Again, let me reiterate, I knew about her for YEARS before starting this blog and hoped she'd vanish into the ether-- never to be mentioned again. She did not. She likely never will. Sims 2 CC Mega Post

I say 'mega' but there really isn't a whole lot, I just didn't wanna split it up. Anyway, yeah, I mostly and normally and prefer to make Sims 4 stuff, but I made some Sims 2 stuff for me last year and this and I figured, may as well share it. Most of these require outside meshes so keep that in mind, Sims 2 CC downloading is a bloody nightmare.

Alex Skin

So I made a custom skin with tattoos for Alex as it seemed simple enough to do. Ain't gonna look perfect, but it looks fine from a distance, same resources I used for my Sims 4 versions, so I did vector the rose and skull. I based the skin off these default replacements. You don't NEED these, but they make it so that everyone matches. Yes that site requires an account and login, it's NSFW, it has body hair and works with nudity. Because obviously I play with mods like that. I made the skin look right for Fit/Thin/Fat but I didn't bother with any age but adult nor did I bother with female, because, idc. I THINK this is Alex's hair mesh, but idfk, I have so many that look like this.

It also works in Castaway Stories, as does all of these, because I used them in it too. :> That made Alex the palest guy on the island as all the skin tones in Castaway Stories were shifted to one tone darker per. I manually put my replacement skin in that too, but I didn't have the darkest, so no body hair to them.

Streaked Jack Hair

You need this mesh to make this work. I made this for myself as I didn't really like anything else I had for him, and this is Sims 2, so I went with earlier hair, and I liked how this mesh looked. Loosely based on like this hair. I didn't bother with other ages beyond adult again. I would have if I decided to de-age him and send him to university, but I did that with Otto instead.

Again also works in Castaway Stories, as I used it, again. It's easy to import Sim's faces from 2 into the stories games.

You need this mesh to make this work. The bright green in that is also great and I used that for him at first. These are his eyes too, or rather his right eye. No screenshots of the red hair, but it's just a bright plain red in case you prefer it. I made this hair as it looked okay with the colors kind of being randomly spread around the mesh. This is his outfit btw. Again only works with adult as far as I'm aware.

You need this mesh for the PTV hoodie. I don't THINK the DD hoodie needs anything external, I compared it to a vanilla mesh and it seemed to line up. I don't know, I made it last December and I didn't log everything I did. Like the shirts above, Everyday category only as they are tops.

As a bonus, here's some misc Sims 2 screenshots to hit the image limit, including this stuff and with no context to my game. I know most people on modern computers play with The Ultimate Collection, but I installed it via discs, and a few ISOs as I didn't feel like spending $30+ for a few missing stuff packs on eBay. :) Pretty sure those ISOs are why my game is British and I have to always manually set the clock and a few other small things every time I load it. Not a big deal to me, just felt I'd mention for clarity. Castaway Stories is from an ISO too as have you SEEN those prices on eBay?! I have Sims 3 on Disc too, 100%, never made any CC for it tho. I love how Sims 2 was out at the peak of, ahem, mid to late 2000s culture so a lot of CC for it is of it's time in the best possible way. I kept this theme going with adding in custom music that ONLY existed from before 2009 (so 2008 is my cut-off date) and it's fun only hearing music of the era ingame. :) I DID make stuff for Sims 1 too years ago but I don't know how I even really did it so idk how to make more and also I don't care that much. I wanted to try playing with Alex and Jack in Sims 1 too but I kept getting fucked up files that didn't work or look right and I didn't know what I needed to do to make it right and I didn't wanna waste more time than I already did trying to make their faces. I do have semi-not ugly faces and outfits for a couple others tho.

Oh yeah, all this stuff is made in the Body Shop and GIMP for textures.

Recently there has been a, i suppose you can call it, "call out post" about our server. I would like to begin with the fact that the information said account has given is very misleading.

Now I would like to explain stuff myself.

Yes, we do have a channel where we discuss topics that go beyond mature humor. Yes, I myself have done this. Yes, I've said stuff that contains sexual topics. But none of this had the intention of putting someone in danger. most of us in the server are teens and have mature potty humor, but whenever we went too far we've been called out for it and we didn't do it again, with MYSELF as a big example.

I would also like to say our "NSFW" channel, does not contain any actual NSFW content, there's no porn, no body pics. none of that. and we STRONGLY are against that.

We also have rules in our server that DIRECTLY says that we do NOT tolerate sexualisation of a minor.

I would like to also say that I am very disappointed by how this was handled. The original poster, bullyworthlol, hasn't even joined the server. they got screenshots sent by a different party. so not only is there no ACTUAL context or explanation, but they didn't even have any experience themselves.

I am by NO MEANS saying the actions we've done, that made people uncomfortable without our knowledge, are valid. But I am trying to tell you to reach out, we are a very welcoming and understanding community. we listen, we change, we improve.

But I'm also saying that we do not force you to interact with our community if you don't feel comfortable with how we act. I highly suggest you don't interact with us if this is the case. yes, we will listen to feedback, but we still have dorky crude humor.

PART 5

I would like to inform everyone reading this that we have already discussed this situation and made changes and improvements.

we decided to change the age limit to only people of 14 and above. We've also decided the "freaky channel" (actual name) can only be accessible by asking the owner or moderators, we have age roles to check who's allowed in or not. (were not gonna ask for a fucking ID that's wild)

We also decided to make the channels; "cosplay" and "face rev" private and only accessible if you've been in the server for longer than a month (we manually check this) to provide more privacy.

We will not be kicking any adults out of our server, Bully is a game from the 2000s, ofcourse it has fans that are adults now. Plus, Bully itself has mature humor, sexual topics, and more. (again, not justifying weird behavior)

thoughts on batman family issue 5 (whichever the one with Helena is)?

ooh thank you for mentioning this comic!! i hope i'm talking about the right series; anyway, i personally had a great time reading this comic and following the several established plots; i will focus on issues #4 and #8, which is when helena makes her appearances.

as always, i love myself a good "huntress fights the mob" story, and this issue did a solid job of that. i especially appreciate how helena's knowledge of mafia history is depicted, like how she is aware of how rosetti rose to power. and honestly, i am glad i read this comic, because it helped answer some of my questions about helena, like what the hell happened to the bertinelli residence, and some of the insight we gain about helena here is everything to me. i also appreciate that for a comic titled batman family, helena asserts her independence firmly! that's our gal 🥰 also i hated the suicide king bastard and i'm glad hel destroyed his ass even when he was hired to try and mentally break her 👏 NO ONE can ever make her leave gotham against her will!!

GODDD thank you for sending this ask because this mini comic is actually a treasure in terms of characterisation and analyses for helena. literally each and every panel of her is worth an essay on their own

and sometimes, i wanna say that while the network + shadow king might get past the surface in their perspective of helena, especially compared to many other characters who don't understand how personal this is for huntress, i don't think any of them still truly understood helena properly. they did not "hasten her path to self-destruct", helena is stubborn as hell, a woman who has faith despite everything, who went through hell and came out the other side, she is a survivor. she is not running away, she will not accept defeat to scumbags of their likes when they represent the very injustice helena has vowed to fight. a huntress story that is heartbreaking yet inspiring strong feelings and infinite thoughts about helena's characterisation once again as well as her sick action scenes and diving into her family + the association to the mafia AND also remembering she is a teacher and a lone wolf? this is a GIFT

i don't really have an opinion about kink discourse, at least not one i'd like to share in public on any of my blogs. if you're going to assume my stance from this, make it neutral.

Rosamunde Cousland - DAO again 4 years later

CW: Mentions of IRL parent death.

Dragon Age Origins was the thing that I sank into during 2020 while the world was much slower for all of us. While there were terrible things happening in the world and in my own life, the fact that I was able to simply just be for a lot of the time was cathartic to me on an imaginative and creative level. The Alistair/Morrigan fic I wrote during that time remains one of my favorite fics I have ever completed and one of the only chapter fics I've ever completed. I also wrote several other one-shots for the fandom.

I was really into Dragon Age 2 as well, but then my mother took a turn for the worse, and my headspace constricted to a point that I didn't have much time or emotional energy for playing anymore. And, on a lighter note, I found the rivalry prospects in DA2 a little more intimidating, though I even made myself a little guide to deal with it on Google Sheets, back during the time I didn't have a job to take all of my problem-solving energy and then some.

Knowing that Veilguard was coming (though I still wish it had been called Dread Wolf, lol, but what even is theming, BioWare), I wanted to get back into Dragon Age. I knew it had been such a long time that if I wanted a sense of my world state that I needed to play DAO again.

One thing I think I might like a little more about Dragon Age 2 as opposed to DAO is that Hawke is a little bit more solid as a character. While you choose a "voice" for your character in DAO, it has very limited use cases, and a lot of the time the voice choices are really just a matter of choosing the least cringe option. For example, I end up choosing the aggressive voice for the Female Cousland character that is to be Rosamunde for me, but the actual lines almost never fit her. I just pick that voice because it's the least objectionable to me. Hawke, on the other hand, follows the BioWare logic of red/purple/blue personality and class where they're different flavors of a basic character you can choose.

I really struggle with whole-cloth OC generation. I'm very attached to the other characters, but I kept floundering a little bit with my Warden, especially when I tried to write her. One of the best things I can do when writing is to capture a character's voice, and it's really hard to do when I am tasked with imagining around the limited voicing and dialogue options provided by DAO for the Warden, as a product of its time.

I had a vague idea of who and what my Warden was four years ago, but having played her again and with a bit more perspective, I think I have a slightly better grasp of her now. I think grounding her to certain touch stones in other media has helped without completely attaching her to a reinterpretation of an extant fictional character.

Way back then, I fancasted her as Adelaide Kane, but I haven't ever watched the period piece or anything much the actress has been in. It was more just a visual vibe upon which to base her.

I can't remember if I found the actress before or after I made my original Rosamunde model in the game.

Now, I've come full circle and am back to beginning of playing awakening, and here's a screenshot of what she looks like now:

She feels much more organic now. Fits the game better.

As I was playing this time, I tried to imagine, at times, how I would intone or rewrite the dialogue choices to fit how I view her as a character.

This time around, I found myself thinking about Rose Tyler, particularly if she'd grown up to be a noblewoman as she fantasized about. It was never on purpose, but I really just needed somewhere to ground my thinking in how she might think about things, and I think there's... some thread there that I am pulling on as I try to help myself feel like my Warden is even half as developed as some of the rest of you guys can make yours.

I'm not quite sure what the vibe is that I'm picking up on here after all this time. I guess it's just a combination of:

A sense of justice while also being willing to be a bit ruthless. Good not being nice always.

Despite the fact that Rosamunde is a Cousland, a noble, and she takes that aspect of her life and role seriously -- that she has a responsibility to people -- her mama was a pirate, so I guess there's supposed to be a mix of a potential for street smarts mixed with a youthful naivete of never having really tested what she's been prepared for prior to Howe murdering her family.

Adrienne is a freshly 21 year old, openly queer and business oriented person. They have periods where they present themselves more masculine or androgynous but they’re currently in their hyper-feminine era. They're a very ambitious but cheerful person, always the first to hype you up when you need it.

They consider themselves as “a human that isn’t limited by boundaries created by mankind” and refuse to use a set gender identity to refer to themselves as so they’ll use gender-fluid/ nonbinary interchangeably to avoid feeling chained to a particular identity. They’re the biggest believer in “You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone or anything, including yourself. Do what makes you happy, our time is limited. Love to live your life.”

They just got out of a two year long relationship with an ex-partner who wasn't very supportive of their gender identity or the way they'd express themselves. "Since I don't set limitations for myself gender wise, I don't mind if people call me "she" from time to time but he'd go out of his way to only refer to me by those pronouns or go out of his way to make it known that I was only a "girl/ woman" in his eyes. Although I had a lot of love for him at some point in time, he was no longer someone I could say I aligned with." They don't have a set preferences for their "ideal type" but gravitate to people who have very similar desires or goals as they do. They're very motivated to reach the goals they set for themselves and heavily desire to be with someone who can match that energy. They are very attracted to the way certain people carry themselves.

They have a HUGE passion for baking & cooking. It’s the best way they express their affection. Sure, they’ll say “I love you” or verbally express anything anything else but their skills in the kitchen is the best way they’ll respond to anything. Going through a breakup? Here’s your favorite type of cookie made especially catered with your tastes in mind. Stressed about school? Here’s a homemade meal with all your favorite ingredients! It’s your birthday?? Well hope you enjoy a day full of taste testing a bunch of dishes made especially for you to try and enjoy. Their dream is to open up a bakery and/or a restaurant to share their skills with the world.

Although they can say they have a support home life, it’s definitely far from perfect. They have an older sister (around the age of 29/30) that they lost contact with at a young age. She "disappeared" from Adrienne's life when they were 7/8 years old & their parents were going through a divorce. Their sister went with their mom and they stayed with their dad. Their mom passed 3-4 years after the split so no one really has heard anything from their sister since. They hate when anyone refers to them as “Lily” but have the fondest memories of their older sister calling them that. Their Dad is kind of hesitant to talk about the topic and avoids it as much as possible but that's made it so that hes more understanding + supportive of Adrienne even if he doesn't necessarily agree with something.

So I know from the Remake Ulti (via pictures from your X account, actually) that Tifa had a sidequest in Remake that would've shown her getting her dress with Marle's help, and Nojima really wanted that to be added in but it was cut.

2 questions:

Why was it cut? I'm waiting for my own copies of the 3 Remake Ulti's and Rebirth Ulti to arrive in about 4 weeks (an early Christmas present to myself! 😅), so, per your screenshots in the meantime, I don't think I see an explanation for why it was cut? Was it due to the lack of space (somehow) or the PS4's memory limitations?

Since we know Part 3 is Tifa's game where she'll finally get to be the sole main heroine like she was always supposed to be, do you think we'll finally get to see this sidequest somehow in Part 3? I mean, Stargazer Heights and Seventh Heaven were literally in Tifa's Lifestream sequence in Gongaga, her and Cloud's shared precious memories, so maybe during the Lifestream event in Part 3 we'll get to see this sidequest? Maybe as a playable flashback from Tifa?

Timing was the reason they gave. The game was running long and they had to cut something and this was an entire section they could axe without affecting the flow of the main narrative, even if it undermined them showcasing Tifa's place in s7 and how she contrasts with Cloud and shared some back story and character relationships. I guess it was more vitally important to show Cloud being annoyed and sighing for the entirety of chapter 8 and how much he hated every odd job he was given and not paid for all to get a dress for some girl he doesn't even like.

But yeah, timing was the reason they gave. It's possible they may add some of Tifa's level back into part 3 since they have the resources and dialogue and everything done already so it would just need tweaking and some fixes to fit with the current part of the story. I doubt they'd show the dress parts but the actual sidequests or cut scenes from them could definitely find their way back in.

They should've given us Tifa's level as a dlc. It's such a pointless waste and shows how much they underestimate fans love for her.
