This was a very difficult choice, but I eventually decided (with a heavy heart) the non-avian dinosaurs had their chance, and that the implications of aliens being real and here too enormous for me to pass up

tfone au where OP is created as the last of the primes but way after them, a sparkling born at what were thought to be the last days of the war against the quintessons, the beginning of a new generation of peace after eons of war. a child meant to be loved and raised knowing nothing of war nor sacrifice.

he's kept mostly out of the spotlight by his siblings, who don't wish to expose him to everyone's optics so young, and want to wait until the war is done and over to properly introduce him to their people.

except of course the primes are betrayed and murdered by sentinel, the war is lost and everyone who knows and cared for the truth is either banished or outright killed in order to suppress it.

and the high guard, the ones the primes trusted the most, the ones that were supposed to protect them, the ones who failed in their most important duty, have to make a choice. to take the last prime, their last hope, with them to the surface, a hostile environment where there's little to no supplies and where they'll be hunted down by both sentinel and the quintessons as the biggest threat to their regimen.

or hide him in plain sight. place him where sentinel won't think to look for him. one more sparkling among many. and hope it will be enough to keep him alive. pray to primus that he'll protect his last child long enough for them to come back for him when it's safer (even if most of them have already lost their faith on him when he allowed the rest of his children to be massacred like that)

they almost lose their resolve when they realize they will have to take the little one's cog away in order to make him blend in with the rest of the newborns (and oh do they burn with murderous intent when they see what sentinel has done to their people but it's not the time yet-) but in the end they decide an impaired little prime is better than a dead one.

and so in the chaos of thirteen dead primes and a sudden energon crisis, a little sparkling who very few mechs really knew about and even fewer had seen completely vanishes. and in the depths of iacon a mech in charge of a new batch of newborns scratches their helm in confusion as they realize they must have miscounted the first time.

optimus prime is quietly erased from any official records by sentinel, written off as dead when they find a sparkling's frame mangled beyond recognition after an attack on the base of those rebels that insist on being a thorn on his side. killing the sparkling hadn't been precisely in his plans, he probably could've found some use for it after all, but he's not particularly upset about it either.

and orion pax grows up with an ache on his spark that tells him he's missing something far more important than a t-cog and dreams of gentle and loving hands, cradling him against the frames of mechs he cannot recall the faces of.

sometimes i think about how tf: earthspark could have been so FUCKING GOOD. like, season 1 wasn’t perfect or anything, but it was setting up the stage for some solid “oh SHIT!!!” storytelling that we haven’t seen since like, TFA’s whole omega supreme lore drop. and then season 2 pissed it all away.

we had a megs-and-dot dual critique of what they saw as optimus’ pandering to human “respectability politics” in the face of real-time injustice. that’s CRAZY. WE COULD HAVE HAD THAT. we could have had dot dissect her entire backstory in the military as a Black woman playing by the rules of US colonial imperialism, throwing herself into it to be used as a tool of oppression, only to see it for what it was and subsequently say “fuck that” and distance herself and becoming besties with MEGATRON — LIKE. IM CRAZY WITH IT. but no . s2 said lol what if we refused to even try

Little idle thought I've been having recently but I think Cyparissus' story is very important for characterising Apollo and Apollo's love. It's so easy to think of love and loss as two ends of a spectrum, likewise, so often, death is seen as an ultimate and tragic end in love stories - something final and inescapably tragic, the only force that halts love by separating the lovers.

Cyparissus' story is... not that. Yes, the deer dies and one can conclude then that death is once more at the heart of separating two lovers, but I think Cyparissus specifically requesting to die, specifically begging Apollo to let him grieve forever even after Apollo has done his best to help Cyparissus move on from the accident and Apollo letting him is a powerful thing.

Because Apollo not only puts Cyparissus' wishes over his own, he's also able to see past his own building grief to immortalise Cyparissus in such a way that both grants him his wish and allows other people to glorify Cyparissus as well! And I think such a beautiful thing is something criminally overlooked!

It's become something of a joke that 'all Apollo's lovers turn into plants' but from a functional perspective, flowers are the most brilliant way to keep the spirit of a beloved thing alive. Flowers are like stars - as long as there are humans, humans will always contemplate the nature of flowers and as the god of poetry and song, Apollo creating opportunities for his beloved mortals to be remembered eternally even if they never seized glory in the traditional way is such an intimate and beautiful thing. Even then, Cyparissus is elevated to a similar status as Daphne with Apollo's actions - not merely a plant or flower but one that specifically symbolises him, one that is extremely fragrant and beloved by him. Just as Daphne's laurels were synonymous with glory and victory, Cyparissus' cypress became a emblematic of grief and remembrance. Even today, thousands of years later, people still view cypress trees as mourning trees and plant them in cemeteries and use the ash in incense burnt in remembrance of others. How's that for Apollo keeping his word.

Short Bio: Once a bot who'd explore the cosmos with reckless abandon, Starcleaver now pays no regard to cybertronian life and doesn't care whether or not those around him live or die. Exploration is but a childish activity, one only newly forged bots would do without purpose. To get by, Starcleaver has resorted to mercenary jobs. He's efficient. Killings are neither here nor there in terms of his feelings. One bot's death is his paycheck, and the life said cybertronian led was not his business or relevant to him in the slightest. Starcleaver had been long time friends with Starbramble, however their relations fell apart after Starbramble left him for dead with a group of Decepticons. Despite what the Decepticons did to him, despite the countless hours of solitary and painful interrogations he experienced, his loyalties to the Autobots crumbled after he learned that nobody was sent for him. Nobody even knew he was gone. If he ever sees Starbramble again? He'll have a nice new head ornament to mount in his ship. [The Starseeker frametype was created by @dimorphodon-x ! One thing I really really loved about Star Twinkle is how each of the villains had their own fighting style. Even the monster of the week concept was different depending on who was summoning it. I just think it's neat, I already miss it dkksksks

What do you think about the following scenario?

Set in TFP, it starts before the war. Megatronus and Orion Pax meet, and it's a whirlwind romance. Someone is not fully up to date on their contraceptive patch, and Megatron ends up carrying. They decide to keep the bitlet, but Orion is made the primary caregiver after a short bonding period.

The Pits are no place for a sparkling, even if it tears Megatron apart to be away from his newspark.

The sparkling ends up accompanying Orion pretty much everywhere, including the Archives. Alpha Trion is a bit baffled and asks if he somehow managed to miss Orion carrying? No, he's the sire.

Of course they visit Megatronus as often as possible.

But canon still happens, and the sparkling ends up joining the Autobots.

Just another betrayal in Megatron's eyes.

I want the sparkling to be a canon character, but no idea who.

I'm tallying up my votes in my head for who said MegOp kid would become, and suggestions:

Classic choice, Bumblebee.

Also a classic choice, Hot Rod.

Unusual option: Mirage

Obscure options: Yellow Splendid Convoy, or "Convoy" for short. Roadfire who looks vaguely Optimus like.

I tried finding someone who looked more like Megs, I failed.
