Hey what's it like being so swag? The people wanna know! (It's me, I'm people)
I just wanted to drop by and say something silly since I've been lurking following you for a while and your art is such a delight! You've been a huge source of motivation for me to work on improving my own art and keeping up with your fan continuity has been super fun! (I love all of your trans headcanons so much, it's really nice to see people like me)
I was wondering if you had any advice on how to build up confidence with physical art work? I'd like to try and go beyond just pencil sketches but using pens for line art or adding color to a piece can feel so intimidating since that's a lot harder to undo than pencil lines... Part of me knows it'll just take some time and practice but the rest of me can't seem to work up the courage to start anyway (^~^;)ゞ
Regardless, you're very cool and I hope you continue to feel better! Have a nice day/night! :D
First of all, thank you so so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoy all my art and trans headcanons! And I'm so so happy to hear my work has been inspiring you! That makes me so glad to hear. I am very passionate about encouraging other artists to explore and develop their own process and work.
And second, here is my hot tip for building traditional art confidence. And it is...make stuff in mediums you have been hesitating to use. Non-erasable mediums work best for building up confidence. Pens. Markers. Even paint if you prefer. You can find and watch traditional process videos if you want as you do. However, the best way to figure out your favorite way to use art supplies and to figure out how to make it look the way you want is just to experiment.
You may notice that the lines on my traditional pieces are sketchy and not polished lineart. With practice, I figured out how to do that my way and make it visually clear and appealing like I wanted. Sometimes, it really does help to just move out of your comfort zone and say "no pencils and no erasers I gotta be a little messy for a bit". I hope this helps!
And thank you for the well wishes! I hope you have a good day/night too!

✭ Maya Fey drawings ✭
Today I felt like drawing Maya. The first drawing I referenced this official art pose and designed the outfit myself :3 I gave her a crop top because noticed that I often draw her in loose t-shirts and long skirts so I wanted to mix it up a bit and crop tops were trendy in mid-late 2010s (which is when the trilogy takes place :P and these Maya's are based off her teen design) so I can see Maya wearing a crop top in warmer weather. Still gave her a long skirt though XD
Than I thought of drawing her eating her favourite food and honestly, this drawing might be my favourite if the bunch lol (though I think the first drawing is the cutest). I think it's mostly because I had the most fun with this drawing as I was super quick and flowy with my sketch, tried to be less precious about my lineart, leading to it being more silly and sketchy, than when I added markers for colours every layer made it pop more and more! So much fun (≧▽≦)
than for the last drawing I ended up not loving it :( I wanted to try and do a pastel drawing with coloured lineart but in so used to brush liners that holding a fine liner seems to make my hand shake, leading to me making many errors ( ̄ヘ ̄;) than I coloured the eyes in first, noticed you could only just seen the lineart and rushed the rest only to not finished it! I hated it immediately after finishing this drawing but now I think it's okay and kinda cute... just feel disappointed.
But that's okay as this drawing page helped showed me my drawing strength and weaknesses more clearly while making more fanart of Maya Fey, who is such a great character!!!!!!

Artist ask meme: 8
<Incorrect-fnaf-quotes
8. what is your favorite piece that you've done ?
HOO BOY DO I HAVE SOME ANSWERS :D !!!
this is gonna be a long one gang !!
these are my most favorite pieces, going from (supposedly) oldest to newest !!
the first one is supposed to be an angsty moment between Elvie and Memphis, two characters from analog horror cartoon !!
I never colored this one cause I ended up losing interest after spending 10 hours on just the lineart alone, but I still love it !!
this next one is of my sona Glappy !! i really liked how I did the lineart, and the piece itself was a bit of an experiment with my rendering style, as well as how I wanted to do his fur pattern and markings !! (I need to update him again smfh)
wegheghegeheg >:3c this next one is of two of my ocs, Anthony (the tiger) and Alban (the rabbit) !!
they are ✨ gay ✨
I was experimenting with drawing kisses while sketching this one, and I had so much fun with the rendering !!
their designs now are a bit different, especially Papi's markings (Glabbles lore: they are my ✨ dads ✨ they're my dads !! boogie woogie woogie !!) cause your boy did NOT know how to draw tiger stripes at the time of making this dhdjdh
(don't ask me how I did the background, I don't know either)
this next one was based on Countryhumans au i made for a discord server I'm in called Bonesdale (a fictional country created by one of my dear beloved friends) !! I made 3 characters, but I liked this one the most, especially with the way I rendered it ✨✨
oooh !! this next one was a gift for my best friend !!
our, ahem, favorite animals are borzois and wolves, and I decided to draw us as such, them being the borzoi and i the wolf !! I had fun rendering the fur on this one, but I was still trying to find my rendering style hrng
this next one was a bit of an experiment, more of a painterly/sketchy type style that I rendered on my laptop !!
I drew meself as a wolf-humanoid type thing !! yay :3c
OH OH OH !!! THIS NEXT ONE !!! YEAH YEAH YEAH !!!
this next one was one I did on my laptop that I never ended finishing (cowabummer 😔😔) but I still loved how it looked, aside from it not being finished !!
this one was more of a painterly type of experiment, and I still love it so much, especially how I ended up coloring Axel (that's his name :3c) !!
I loved the way I did the lighting in this one !! ugh I love it sm
this next one is a Memphis wip I'm still working on !! I love how it's turning out !! I've been working on it since October hrngh
i love the way I did the fur and the teeth and the shinies and yeah :]
this last one is another Memphis piece !! I absolutely adored how I did the rendering on this one, especially on the eyes !! I had so much fun figuring out how to render this one, and I love it so much eugh
SURPRISE:
✨ BONUS SKETCH ✨
i drew this sketch of dad last night (rabbit father from the 3rd drawing :3c) and I REALLY LOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT !!!
every time I look at it and stare in disbelief at the fact that I drew that !!
I swear I do one Nacho Libre study for sillies and then I finally figure out how to draw anatomy 🙄🙄
anywaybs that is all the art for the time being :3c
if you scrolled down this far: what's your favorite candy ? :D

Research: Personal artist research (Part 2)
Baron Ueda
Baron Ueda is a Japanese artist and character illustrator and creator of the company Frlamemonger. He has illustrated for multiple companies, such as Nike and McDonald’s, and often includes a mascot called AI Bear in his work.
Ueda has a few different stylisations, some more realistic, but I love his more cartoony work which is referred to by him as “Charactive”. Ueda’s art is bold and dynamic, with unique colour palettes, well rendered backdrops, angular, cool characters and a controlled chaos to every piece he makes. He definitely has an iconic style, especially with the way he stylizes the eyes and heads.
I think a lot of people, even those who aren’t into cartoony styles, can see the effort and pride Ueda puts into his art. While a lot of it is commercial-based and a lot to take in visually, it all has a distinct and lively flare.
website:
Kelly Ficarra
Kelly Ficarra is an American artist and animator who primarily focuses on comics. Her artwork takes inspiration from late 90's and early 2000's cartoons, with the usual cutesy and edgy touches, though her artwork also often has comedic, sapphic and sexual elements.
Most well known for her character illustrations, Ficarra draws female characters with different focuses and themes, some more provocative than others. Wether they be run-of-the-mill girls or angels and demons, Ficarra finds a way to make them all equally charming and fun, and the imperfections in her line art add a lot of life to their posing. Her best works are usually made using either watercolour markers or digitally scanned since they embody the cel frame look to the T.
Personally, I just really like her work, her designs and how “imperfect” they look overall. Despite their flatness, they have a lot of personality.
social:
OneBadNoodle
Onebadnoodle, also known as The Noodle, is an American artist and character illustrator. They generally draw fan art and redesign different characters, but also draw humanoid original characters, such as their Fruit Salad characters who are all different fruits and are named after fruit-based dishes.
Noodle’s characters are usually based on one major concept, whether it be clothing or bugs, and are given characteristics based on that. Even with this simple approach, they amplify their work with the art style; Despite the rough and sketchy nature of the lineart, the emphasis on shapes and angularity makes the designs look sleek. Their colour selection is also interesting, not being too bright but still having a bold and colourful vive.
Personally, I already mentioned that I’m a fan of thematic and brash character designs, and Noodle’s design fit my exact tastes, though what I prefer about their art over another artists who make similar pieces is their art style and it’s cartoonish look, which especially helps showcase silhouette better and allows for more experimentation.
Social:
Some personal thoughts
So, I'm aware that we're supposed to include an artist whose work we don't like as much or don't connect with. Here's a funny thing...
I can't name any artists whose work I dislike enough to name here. I'm open minded to art and the styles people have, even I dislike them. For example, I have an obvious preference for simplicity and iconography in terms of character design, but that doesn't make artists who draw over-designed anime characters akin to Genshin Impact any less credible, it just means I don't like how the characters look aesthetically, and those artists might think the same thing about the art I like and draw.
Art is super subjective and I’m not saying that I like everything because that is a lie, but I prefer to acknowledge artists who actually had a positive impact on my life, the ones who made me love and appreciate art and who’s work I relate to and find interesting enough to be inspired by (Especially since Ai is taking away artists' jobs and you included Ai generated pictures as part of the research for this project. Even if unintentional, that is really disrespectful to the people studying art and artists on this course.). If I dislike the art someone makes, I just turn my attention away from it, and if I dislike the artist? They don’t deserve to be mentioned, because my reason for disliking them is that they’re a terrible person.

Weekly Update May 24, 2024
I tried being productive this week, and got some things done but not as much as I would’ve liked. I’m still super tired and work starts next week, but I’m hoping things will get better. Some personal things may come up so I might also be in a bad mood or busy helping family next week, but there’s also a chance we get a pet. I’m hoping I can convince my mom for a dog, since I don’t care for cats, but a cat is more likely. Anyway art stuff.
I didn’t make straightforward progress on the OEB video but I did some stuff. I redid boards for the first chorus twice, ran it past a friend for peer review. Friend has also offered to help with boards, and I gave him a general description of what I wanted, but I’m not going to hold him to it since I don’t currently have a way of repaying him. It’s more of a fun thing for him to do if he wants, and if he does it helps me, but if he doesn’t then I’ll still get it done on my own. I did write up what I want the boards to look like through the second chorus, and I got started on building the puppet of the main character. I don’t expect full puppets for all the characters, but I think the main at least makes sense, since there’s a good chance I’ll reuse him in other animations, or at least I can reuse his parts. Also looked into a certain feature of adobe’s and i should be able to skip the entire sketch line step I was doing before, and just do it in the program, which will be a great way to save time while still giving it that sketchy lineart style I love so much.
Comic: pitch comic is officially 20% done, and I figured out how to get Microsoft word back on my computer so I can get to writing the next stuff. I got about half an outline for an episode 2 of O’Malley, and I’m starting structuring Backstage’s overall plot, since time is a much more important factor there. I’m not sure if I still have the outline I did for episode 3 of O’Malley or not, but I remember the general chorus of events so I can redo it if I don’t. Sorry I don’t have much to say on the current comic other than I just need to keep working on it. Which I will, I’ll try to get page 7 sketched tomorrow. That’s Anastasia’s introduction, so hopefully I’ll be able to post something from it.
Music: I got impulsive and outlined another song. And started throwing instrumentals together. I’ll abbreviate it as RR, it’s an original, vocal, not sure what voice to use but it’s fine. I’m going to try for getting the lyrics done before writing the melody this time, shouldn’t be too bad as long as I have time and motivation. I’m still going to aim to finish up lyrics for BATB first, but those are slow because I keep second guessing myself about it. I started another draft of the first verse last night, I’ll try to get that done tonight if I have time.
I’m trying to get one general drawing done a night, but I’m falling behind. Right now I’m watching a movie with my mom since she’s had a rough day (Beetlejuice is still a good movie btw, better than the cartoon) but I’m hoping I’ll have time to get another one done once the movie is over. I did get an account on that sheezy.art site through luck, haven’t had enough time to tell whether it’s worth the exclusivity yet. Also heard about a site called unvale, haven’t poked it at all yet, maybe I’ll do that soon. Anyway point is I’m trying to get more general drawings done on days I have free. Those are going to be more sparse with work but I’ll try to still get some done on the weekends.
All things considered I did a bunch this week but it isn’t a lot that I can really show. I’m still trying. In the next few weeks I’ll finish up some more general drawings and try to get on redoing some of the Artfight refs that need it. I’ll definitely have more to show during July because I want to go ham with that, although again time will be a bit constrictive. This next month I’m going to try finishing up some projects I want to get done before then, but I’ll try to see how much of that I can multitask with other big projects. It’ll be fine!

#broo this looks so good!#how many hours did it take?#it's all pencil linework#must have taken patience beyond my understanding
Thank you!!
You have activated my trap card: talking about drawing
I wasn't keeping track, tbh, since I've been poking at it on and off over a couple of days. Some number of hours greater than two, but I genuinely have no idea. Believe it or not, this is actually what counts as relatively loose and sketchy by my standards! Pencil lineart is what I fall back on when I don't have the energy for proper inking, since it's a lot more forgiving. (Plus, I've got this excellent propelling eraser that lets me clean up really tiny details, so I was able to get rid of the construction lines without losing the details around/on top of them and that helps it to look neater.) Usually I'd get really particular when inking the lines, but this time I just quickly went over some of them with a really sharp pencil for definition, or a blunter one for weight, and let things stay a bit fuzzy in places.
The whole thing was pretty haphazard and improvised, actually. I started redrawing a screencap, but then I changed the expression, moved the limbs around, messed up his hair and clothes... It was pretty much an experiment in being a bit looser and not so reliant on references, so it's interesting that it looks like it took patience! It felt like the total opposite when I was drawing, I was just throwing things at the page and seeing what stuck by the metric of what I found the most entertaining. It does help that I've drawn Ironwood a truly ludicrous number of times by now, so I've got even his more complicated prosthetic hand pretty down, and I could probably draw his face and hair in my sleep.
While I'm rambling about the drawing process (I meant it about the trap card!), I put far too much thought into the damage and the blood (and my usual habit of making sure the lines of his metal arm are vaguely realistically visible through his sleeve, because I always thought the show animation was lazy about that). Obsessive levels of detail is always the fun part, I get into the zone and forget how long I've spent on things. The vague context I had in mind is that this is the result of the big James-vs-everyone fight in the better version of vol8 that exists in my head. (I did vaguely consider making this the aftermath of the Watts fight, but I chickened out of the level of gory involved in drawing his burns.) His aura has been knocked out, he took a glancing bullet to the shoulder, something nicked his face or maybe it's a laceration from a blow, and the big one is that he's over-exerted himself far too soon after getting his arm replaced and he's bleeding from the amputation site. Figuring out where the blood would have soaked through his jacket sleeve while running down his arm as it hung limp was fun. I would have drawn blood on the knuckles of his left hand as well, but metal hands don't bleed and I was less keen on the implication that it was someone else's blood, so I just went with damage to his glove. Can you tell I've been watching a lot of forensic pathology crime dramas lately. Oh yeah, and it's less clear in pencil than it would be in colour, but I had to include the heavy dark circles under his eyes that I always draw him with as one of the few bits of shading. Man has Not been getting enough sleep.
I do love drawing this disaster, it's been way too long.
Vent art? Stress relief art? One of those things, feat. this disaster because he's good for that
#personal stuff#i'm sure i had a talking about art tag somewhere#james ironwood#bonus comment: i listened to a lot of angry music while drawing this#the Big Mood tracks were 'in the end' by linkin park and 'laplace's angel' by will wood

Any advice on how to sketch faster? Feels like it takes HOURS for me to make a sketch for just one drawing...
ok this is a hard one for me because it genuinely just. kinda comes naturally to me actually. like i remember my art teachers in elementary school getting annoyed with me because i could draw so fast and i would finish before everyone else. BUT there are some things that i think have helped me get even faster over the years!
the first one is quick figure drawing. I like to do 1 or 2-minute gesture drawings because they really force you to move fast and think more about the form itself than get bogged down in the details. (in art school they make you take a ton of classes that are JUST figure drawing if you're majoring in illustration. i love it.) The absolute best way to do this is a live model session, but i understand that not everyone is in art school lmao so the website quickposes is a good resource! go to timed practice and set the interval to 60 or 90 seconds, and then just focus on getting the IDEA of the form down instead of all the details. This can be scary at first but eventually you'll become much more confident and your hand will naturally start to move faster when you sketch! figure drawing this quickly will also help you loosen up and get a better idea of the forms of the human body instinctually, which will in turn make it easier for you to sketch faster even without a reference!
The second thing that i think really helps me go fast is kinda a natural progression from the figure drawing tbh, and it's not worrying TOO too much about 100% anatomical accuracy. What my professors have told me in my drawing classes is basically that as long as it LOOKS believable, it doesn't matter if it's actually perfect. don't worry too much about realism or accuracy when you're laying down a preliminary sketch. focus on the energy you want your pose to convey, and let your sketch reflect that. if anything is HORRIBLY wrong anatomy-wise you can fix it later, but a little bit of limb-lengthening or otherwise unrealistic proportioning isn't the end of the world, especially in very stylized art. When you aren't super worried about 100% accuracy you have a lot more freedom to move quickly and ignore little mistakes!
thirdly, lose all the steps in your artmaking process that you don't like. when i first started digital art, I thought that i HAD to do a stick -figure pose sketch, block in the body on top of that, then clothes, then lineart, coloring, shading, etc. there were SO many steps in that process that took me a really long time to do and that i just... did not enjoy doing. nowadays I've almost completely cut lineart from my process because i like the sketchy look, and i often don't even draw the full body before i begin blocking in the clothes, hair, or face. Obviously you need some preliminary knowledge of how these aspects of your character are going to interact before you can do this, but once you're able to it really shaves off a lot of time. I found that when i was trying to do things what i thought was the "right" way, even steps that i hated, my art looked worse and took longer because I wasn't having as much fun.
#I do just naturally sketch fast but i think a LOT of it is that i dont worry too much about little imperfections yknow?#anyways. hope this helps lol#asks

who are your art inspirations?
Oh gosh, a lot of people. All of my artist friends and mutuals inspire me pretty much every day, but I can't list em all, so ,,, here's some less obvious answers!
I'd say it's mainly comic artists who can consistently do super loose and fun sequential art that feels fresh everytime, with the occasional illustrative piece. Artists with fun interesting shading styles or somehow no shading at all, yet still managing to make absolutely captivating pieces that feel rendered in comic form, while not looking like "too much" or too polished.
^^ First artist that comes to mind when I'm asked about inspirations is the visual mastermind behind Saga, Fiona Staples, her stuff just itches my brain SO right because it feels really… real? Despite the stuff she draws being absolutely crazy shit, the expressions and looseness of it and just the raw feelings is so cool… I appreciate how her illustrations still look like her sequential stuff, it's always very "in the moment" ykno. It's hard for me to read Saga in a single focused sitting because I just end up distracted with art inspo the whole time HAHA-
^^ As far as art styles go, I'm well aware of how much I've taken and learned from IncaseArt, which is kinda.. Funny. Don't look him up if you're a minor lol. If you recognize this No You Don't. Regardless I absolutely love how he draws diverse people and faces, the way he renders skin, hair, backgrounds,,EVERYTHING,,,, There's a lot of nuance to his style that I've subconsciously started using in my own the past few years. I don't know how he does it man x.x He understands colors SO well ahghghghg
^^ Feel obligated, but reluctant, to say SarahDraws, she's had some crazy bad controversies !!!!WHICH I AM BRINGING ATTENTION TO HERE SO DON'T GET MAD AT ME!!!! but I'm still absolutely enamored with her art. Gotta give credit where credit is due, man u.u But, seriously, even though lineart is my favorite part of the process, I envy how amazing she can make any piece look with her insane sketchy lines, I genuinely don't even know if she does a sketch beforehand or just cleans it up--it looks so beautiful either way. Love her dark goth imagery paired with a super bright accent color WAAAGHG
^^ Growing up I know I was inspired by a lot of...erhm ... Traumacore and guro artists DollieGuts and ReinaGoth, but how much their style ended up sticking to mine,,,I dunno! You can kinda see it I guess? I was pretty innocently into artists of this scene but ultimately shied away due to a phobia of mine LMAO. Still love their work though! I know DollieGuts is the reason I line with such a crunchy brush, considering I used their brushes on Sai for a few years straight 🥴 (also love how much they've been playing around with their style lately...mwah. love to see an artist breaking out of their comfort zone)
^^ It goes without saying I get inspiration from a lot of fandom artists, too, Wilddaggers and Nenanugget definitely come to mind,, I feel like they both use super satisfying colors and a lot going on despite not having full shading, which I hope to achieve so badly.
Thank you so much for the ask, and sorry the late reply ❣❣
#oh hell naw snelly did not just point out 3 problematic people and say ''art inspo''#idk if ill delete this or not. i feel like im just reposting ppls art..#dont reblog#ask#junes1#blood#gore#long post

I don’t draw often so forgive the wobbly proportions and sketchy lineart (too nervous to post, barely able to submit, but here we are akdhsk) but I am simply in love with this IF :)) so!meet my music club gay, Itsuki Hano :) he’s six foot two, his pronouns are he/they, and regularly they dye their hair— it’s naturally a strawberry blonde colour, but you wouldn’t be able to guess considering the rainbow he usually has it dyed into —making him the human equivalent of a lighthouse//signalling beacon ⋆⋆ Some thoughts from others: “Hano? Music club Hano? He’s always singing, and I think he plays guitar, I’m pretty sure I saw him get mobbed with one once after practice…” “Of course! Everyone has at least heard of ‘Itsuki Hano’, he’s always in some kind of trouble, it’s always fun though— he’s never been in actual serious trouble, I don’t think, he’s just…too much of a smooth-talker for that.” “Hano? I heard they got in a fight with someone once, apparently there’s a scar under their bandaid. Never seen it myself though, so that’s probably just a rumour.” “Oh, sure! I know him. If I had to describe him in one word it would be…chaotic. He’s always so bouncy, like an overexcited puppy!”
#MCs#Submissions#Thank you for your art!!#The effect and pose are so cool... *__*#I am starting the Itsuki-kun Fanclub#A big puppy...please take all of my love#I am also SO excited to read more of OLAS!!#Isko lives rent free in my head#Itsuki Hano

Funky noses [ranging from Muppet, human nose but interesting, and snoot], a very specific style of eye that I can't quite explain, a specific muted color pallete, and a sketchy lineart and vibe with the pressure that's pretty unique.
Funky noses? Yes I’m very proud of my funky noses, they’re very fun hehehe
My eyes usually come from a “basic eye” I draw and just stem from that, and then of course my googly eyes for remus and my persona occasionally
I love my color palettes oh so much, I think they’re muted because of my story I had to where intentionally everything was almost monochrome, so now everything I draw has a muted tone to it haha
My sketchy line art is because I’m lazy andnwnfnqjnda I just erase the stray lines from my sketch usually, BUT when I do make clean line art I do love my pen pressure settings 🥰🥰 it’s so fun haha

It’s incredible to see how your style has evolved yet stayed consistent! You’re an inspiration to everyone who follows you. Do you have any advice in regards to incorporating lineart into colouring?
YOU ARE SO SWEET IM ACTUALLY DEAD RN.
I had to smile at this when I read it because if you know anything about me (irl) it’s that I’m consistent. ALWAYS (def not just in art). If you’re asking me to do something (anything), you pretty much already know what you can expect to get. And, that’s a blessing and a bit of a curse. I think it means I know what I want and I try hard to achieve it, but it also (by default) means that I probably don’t experiment enough, or publish garbage things I wouldn’t normally publish (although you can see literally almost all my garbage over on Patreon these days (sorry/ you’re welcome Patrons!!)
HOWEVER, I’m so happy to hear you can see it evolving. I can’t always see it evolving until after I put two pieces up next to each other, and even then, I can’t tell you what I mentally decided to do differently to make it *improve*. (I think that’s just experience playing quietly behind the curtains.)
I AM SO PSYCHED ABOUT YOUR QUESTION THOUGH.
BECUASE, FRIEND, I LOVE ME SOME LINEART.
I know I do realism, and outlines don’t actually appear irl, but I LIKE INCORPORATING THEM. I think they’re SO FUN. And they can do a lot to help carry the viewer’s eye through the composition.
My favorite way to incorporate line art is either:
1. Sketchy: pieces just have parts of the original sketchy lineart poking through:
Which is to say there is a line layer, a base color, and a detailed color over the original line layer. OR,
2. Detailed: pieces have all/almost all of the original lineart covered up by detailed coloring, and then accent line layers on top of that:
These are the pieces where none of the original line is showing, but instead a smoother redraw of the lines.
So, in short, you can either include portions of your original sketch in your art, or you can completely redraw it with smoother, more intentional strokes depending on how polished you want your finished piece to look/ how much time you have.
So, I’m not sure that entirely answered your question because I’m drinking and I’ve officially lost focus, but I hope it helps!!! AND I WISH YOU THE HAPPIEST OF ARTING!!!!

“Very much so, yes! Absolutely!”- Me, about to get my teeth ripped out.
(Click for better quality!)
So I decided to do a creepy Habit while trying out a super sketchy outline style! I had a lot of fun with this, took me almost 3 hours to do and…man, I just LOVE creepy Habit! Allow me to get salty here for a sec tho…there was going to be a speedpaint linked with this post…BUT! I guess my recording software screwed up on me and while it captured the sound, IT DIDNT GET THE FOOTAGE!!! AND I CHECKED BEFORE TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS WORKING BEFORE I STARTED AND IT WAS SO IDK WHAT HAPPENED BUT…AAAAAAAA! Sorry guys, maybe some other time… :-(

Artist spotlight: aaron!
✿ Commissions ✿ Ko-fi Tumblr ✿ Tumblr ✿ Instagram
header source: [X]
Introduce yourself I'm aaron and I'm a filipino artist in California! Tokyo Mew Mew was the first manga I ever owned, and my favorites are Ichigo and Lettuce! I also love Kiyotaka Ishimaru from danganronpa, musicals, and the color yellow. When did you start drawing? Are you a digital or traditional artist? I've been drawing ever since I can remember! I used to draw random people, teen titans, or inuyasha. In high school, I got a hand-me-down wacom tablet from a friend and from there, I started creating my own ocs with backstories. I've been a digital artist since then. Do you use any traditional mediums? If so, which are your favorites? I use mechanical pencils and ballpoint pens. I really like using pink, blue, and purple highlighters to color in values, but recently I've been trying to collect actual artistic markers. I think they're calligraphy markers tbh, but they're double sided and they give me more colors so idc XD Why do you prefer traditional over digital? (or viceversa) I really like the accessibility of traditional- I can draw wherever I want, as long as I have a pen and paper. But for showing off my work, I'd much rather it be digital. Digital gives me access to so many colors and I can zoom in to create more details. It's also a lot cleaner than taking a picture with my shaky phone quality. What do you think is the most challenging part about being a traditional/digital artist? It's difficult for me to choose the correct colors. When I only did traditional, I'd only color in greyscale because that's what mangas did and that's all the colors I had. I can't really work with more than 3-5 tones/colors or else it'll get scared it'll look too busy. I always have to filter my colors to give them a little more life, because the first ones I choose are usually washed out. What inspires your pieces? I draw my ocs a lot! Drawing them in different ways and scenarios helps me solidify their designs and personalities. I will often have phases where I'll draw a LOT of my current favorite oc. Explain your "everyday" drawing process I'll either draw one single character in a flowy pose, or two characters interacting/posing together. I'll digitally sketch something out and keep erasing and re-drawing the lines on the same layer until I have my line art. I block out colors with a binary pen so that my basic color palette looks good and then select each color so I can put detail in it. Depending on how much energy I have, I'll do simple shading or I'll keep the lineart layer a little sketchy and just color over it for a lineless piece. I don't have a lot of practice with lineless because it takes a lot out of me, but sometimes I get really into it

Do you have an artist you admire (or more than one)?
https://www.instagram.com/treindraws/ (lines/ colors)
https://www.instagram.com/pimikyuu/ (THICK lines, very cartoony)
https://www.instagram.com/thronekin/ (plush shaped characters, cute blush)
https://www.instagram.com/robobogart/ (designs)
https://www.instagram.com/fukashi_gimmick/ (recently followed, bright colors. interesting shapes/flow)
Is there an artwork you are most proud of? Why?
https://ubetaro.tumblr.com/post/182234099603/ubetaro-oh-mom-this-might-be-as-far-as-i-go
I really like this one because it's lineless and I put a lot of effort into the hair and giving it different colors
https://ubetaro.tumblr.com/post/181532773553/1shimaru-danganronpa-secretsanta
I am also proud of this one because it's TWO full body characters with a background and soft lighting. It took a lot of effort out of me but it was really satisfying to finish!"
Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing? Yes! I listen to musicals, chill beats, or 80's/90's music. I can't hear what I'm thinking when the music is too jumpy and fun. I also get distracted when there are people talking, so I can't listen to films or letsplays when I draw

What makes art interesting for you? I like making things! I like how my brain comes up with things and i can make those things become a reality through my art. What do you do when art block strikes? If I want to draw, and my art is looking Ugly, then I draw big and messy. Whatever comes to mind naturally, I'll just put it down. I'll draw random people, or big anime eyes. I'll redraw something with a premade design so I don't have to think of the designs myself, or I'll draw someone in a spine-breaking pose and over-exaggerate the features. What’s the most valuable art advice you’ve ever received?
Experience things! When you experience things, it gives you a personal connection to use in your art.

Hi! I was asked what program/brushes I use for my art, and decided to make an entire post about it!
I use Clip Studio Paint and most of the brushes I get are ones you’re able to download from Clip Studio Assets, which is incredibly helpful when you wanna find some new brushes to find and use. So, here’s a list of brushes I use and the links to them if you want to download them yourselves!
1. Textured Pen
If you use CSP, go to the pens tab and there should be one called “Textured Pen”, that’s what I use!
2. 線画用ペン by imo86
Whenever I’m feeling lazy and want to make lineart, I use this pen because no matter how sketchy you get with it, the lineart looks intentional and nice. I think the pen is updated, so it might be a little different? But it might be the same!
3. Pencil
I kind of made this brush myself? It’s just another default brush on CSP that I messed around with, but not by that much. Go under the pencils tab and it should be the last brush on the list.
4. 鉛筆ブラシ by がうたま
This link goes to an entire pencil pack! I mostly use the 2nd one out of the pack (which is the one I show), but all of them are very fun to play with. I mostly use it for lineart, but sketching is also pretty good. I usually use this brush when I’m doing a painting.
5. ざっくり水彩 by 磁気
ALRIGHTY LEMME TELL YA...the brushes in this pack ARE AMAZING. Do you want your artwork to look like watercolor? Well, this pack is the perfect thing for you! The watercolor paint brushes are beautiful! If you have a hard time like me with blending colors with watercolors, it comes with a blur brush that helps blend em. But my favorite is the pen brush it comes with that I show in the picture above. I just got the pack a couple days ago, but I LOVE IT! I use it for sketching, but I’m gonna try using it for lineart soon.
6. FLAT OIL!! by yogurt_art
This is my main painting brush I use! Before I had this brush, I had such a hard time with painting brushes that never really mixed and blended the colors right. With this brush, it blends colors soooo beautifully! This brush saved my life.
7. sss oil by rompi
I don’t really use this brush for painting because it doesn’t blend as well as the Flat Oil brush, but I do love using it as lineart for painting! It’s very nice to work with and the texture really makes the art pop out more!
8. かすれ油彩 ■ by Nappo
Okay, I have a love/hate relationship with this brush because it does blend the colors, but it takes more than one try to get the type of blending you want. So, using this brush takes some patience, but the texture is great and it’s gives a nice smooth finish. It’s a fun brush to experiment with.
If you made it this far, good job! I hope this post helps you out some, and maybe you’ll find a couple new brushes to mess around with if you have CSP!
Would I recommend other artists to get CSP? Yeah, if you have the time and patience to learn the program! It comes with a lot of options for an artist that’s helped me, especially with Clip Studio Assets, because I’ve been able to download different brushes like these to mess around with and incorporate into my art. Anyway, thank you for reading all this and hope you all have fun with your art!

Do you have any art tips?
Uhhhhhh Funk im not The Greatest Artist ™ but I’ll try to bestow some Wisdom on you. Keep in mind Art is Subjective and I’m no expert and all that so take everything with a grain of salt but that being said I’ll try to give u Tips and Tricks
-listen so if you have a boring class at school just draw in it. School is great because you have 1. Access to paper at all times 2. Incredibly boring lectures. If you have a study hall that’s the Drawing JACKPOT. Basically what I’m saying is practice all the time when you have energy but like that’s such boring art advice. It’s important but “practice! uwu” is like what people with Natural Art Talent say when they didn’t have to figure everything out from the ground up so it’s kind of aggravating
-There’s gonna be people better than you. Chances are you have a friend who’s better than you because this is Tumblr we all draw. Try Not To Compare Yourself ™ which idk how to do but it’s bad don’t do it
-unless you find a terrible person with worse art than you in which case FUCK DUDE COMPARE YOURSELF TO THEM! THEYRE HORRIBLE AND THEY CANT DRAW FOR SHIT LOOK WHOS LAUGHING NOW!
-“work until your idols become your rivals” is absolute bullshit because your idols are working at it at the same time you are. You fool. You imbecile. I feel like this works better for writing when your idols can become irrelevant or straight up die between you being an aspiring author 8 year old and a tired 30 year old who just wrote The Great American Novel ™ or just kind of. Leave the fandom if you’re writing fanfic. Anyway
-ok that’s all the preachy shit, time for Real Art Advice ™. Keep in mind I do digital cartoony shit with Strong Lineart and cel shading for the most part and I pretty much only draw people so my knowledge is limited to that. if you wanna be a professional artist maybe do other things and Expand your Abilities ™
-Ok first off if you’re using Gimp or Photoshop please love yourself and download Firealpaca or illegally torrent Paint Tool Sai or something. I swear by Firealpaca it cured my depression but like. Photoshop is Trash for drawing. Get Firealpaca it has Line Correction ™
-Keep Line Correction ™ at like. A 5 when you’re sketching and at a 19 (the maximum) when you’re lining, coloring, shading, highlighting, doing literally anything that isn’t sketching
-Sketching digitally can be hard if you’re used to sketching on paper and I find it easier to do a sketch on paper, take a picture of it on my phone or scan it, and line/color it digitally. You do you and figure out what works best
-speaking of which I refused to use sketchbooks until I was Worthy ™ of not drawing on notebook paper and uhhhhhh that’s dumb just get a sketchbook they cost a little more than a notebook at Target it’s not super expensive. Although if you’re not financially in the position to buy a sketchbook anyway, just hoard notebooks from school that you didn’t use much. Bam, that’s your new sketchbook
-the Head Circle Cross Thing and the Spheres For Shoulder, Elbow, and Wrist Thing are good and important and will save you
-hands are hard so use references but bullshit your way through it. eventually they’ll look good (I haven’t gotten there yet)
-HAVE FUN WITH NOSES OH MY GOD. Noses are super fun and cool because there’s, like, infinite variety with them, they can be as long or short, thin or thick, rounded or pointy as you want, you can make them be, like, triangles or circles or more squareish or diamond-shaped, the base of the nose can be about as high or as low on the face as you want, you can make the nostrils prominent or not really there at all, they can add another Layer to a character’s design, oh my goodness noses are so fun. They’re like, severely underrated and oh my god I could gush about how fucking fun noses are
-same with facial expressions. Where you put the pupils and how big they are, how much of the eye is covered by eyelids, the way the eyebrows are, the mouth, tons of other shit. There’s loads of variety and so much you can do and honestly having fun with the facial expression is The Best Part. There’s tons of Face Art Chart Memes floating around, you know the ones, save it to your phone/computer and practice those on your own time it’s fun
-if you don’t know how to do something, avoiding it won’t help you. Just kind of draw around with it in your sketchbook or in a “I’m not posting this” file until you feel confident enough to do it in your Real Projects ™.
-Ok for lining did you know..… it isn’t illegal to erase parts of the lineart to clean it up.… just be careful and draw it back in to the best of your abilities if you erase too far and use a smaller eraser brush/lining brush for this… I know it’s tedious nobody likes lining it’s okay you can do this put on some good music
-use mcfucking references
-eyedrop character’s official colors but adjust said colors based on the color of your background to make them look less funky is my general rule for clothing, I usually pick the hair/skin by myself or from something I’ve already drawn though
-for flats, make sure your lineart is all closed off and there aren’t any “holes” cuz that’ll mess up your coloring
-so how I do flats is I use the magic wand tool to select whatever I want to color, expand selection 3 pixels (in firealpaca you can set it to do this automatically), pick the color I need, turn up the brush to as big as possible, and color it in. It saves the time you’d spend with cleaning up where the color gets outside the lines
-you can do the flats on one layer, but I personally like to do every Object on a different layer so when I do shading, I know what goes on top of what
-if a color is darker than the lineart it looks ugly so pick your line color with caution (or just use black! Unlike shading black lineart tends to go with pretty much everything)
-SHADE YOUR GODDAMN ART. Like, what makes people go “wow holy shit that’s good!” is the shading + highlights, don’t be lazy ya fuck.
-I’d take a break before shading to Refresh Your Eyes ™ but also I constantly forget this is a good idea
-don’t shade with black oh my god. Unless you’re doing Strong Punchy Dramatic Stuff or monochrome black and white stuff, don’t shade with black, and if you’re doing that it’ll probably be drawn into the lineart. Don’t shade with black please we can tell you’re doing it and it looks bad
-highlighting with white isn’t too bad though, especially with the eyes, but it might look too strong in some places
-As a general rule, shading is darker and more saturated, highlighting is lighter and less saturated. Whether it gets warmer or cooler depends a lot on what color or thing you’re shading or what you want the feel of the picture to be and I’m not 100% sure how to do it myself so uh. Trust your gut and change the color if it looks wrong I guess.
-where exactly the shadows or highlights fall depends on lots of things, just kind of. Look at how things work irl maybe? This is the kind of thing that you just have to practice, and it’ll look like shit until suddenly it doesn’t sorry I’m not sure what to say
-One Medium Sized White Dot on a layer above the lineart where the pupil borders the Iris (or the whites of the eyes if you’re like me and you make the pupil and Iris one thing) works for a glint in the eye that makes a person look less dead and more cute. How big you’re gonna make it depends on how adorable you want the person to be
-SMOOTH BORDERS FOR THE SHADING ARE REALLY IMPORTANT IF YOURE DOING CEL SHADING which is why firealpaca is my best friend thanks line smoothing. If you’re doing like. Soft shading or painterly shit or other kinds of shading it’s less Super Important but like. Still be sort of neat. Unless being really messy and sketchy is what you’re going for but even then you still need to be sort of careful
-for simple backgrounds, it’s like. Easy to make it interesting. Add polka dots to the background or a big old square or a gradient or a cloud filter or something the possibilities are endless. Another option is to straight up make it transparent and write a secret message in white on the side. But uhh never do a blank white background at the very least fill it with a solid color
-ok style is kind of hard because I never had to struggle to find my style? I just “drew in my handwriting” so to speak and then if along the way I realized something looked shitty I just changed how I drew it slightly? I guess a thing you could do if you’re in tune enough is look at the styles of things you do like and things you don’t and figure out why you do and don’t like it. “I like how *2010s cartoon* does Eyes!” great take that general concept. “I hate how this shitty yaoi has enormous hands!” great then don’t do that. It’s all Personal Preference my dude style is Your Own Thing
-notes aren’t everything but fuck do they feel nice. Self reblogs are fine but don’t overdo it, I’d say reblog it Twice to account for time zones and tag it as self reblog so as to not be a dick
This got long whoops. That’s all I can think of but I hope this helps it’s All I Know
