THE HEAVEN CAST!!!!! WHOOOOOOO!!!!!
So first off, we got a redesign for the Exorcist Angel armor. I wanted to keep the colors light so they stand out when in Hell. I was also hugely inspired by Crusades armor, since the Crusades fought for religious territory, I thought taking inspo from there made sense.
Then we have Lute, Emily, Sera and Adam's designs. I'll explain it all under the cut if you're interested!!!
LUTE!!!!!!!!!! Sorry guys but she's basically a different character with the same name at this point
So I think that Lute was like a mentor figure to Vaggie, she was the closest thing Vaggie had to a (sorta) mom but it's defiantly like a student-master relationship.
I think that Vaggie trusted and cared for Lute deeply, she devoted all her time and energy into training in order to make not only Heaven better, but to make Lute proud. Lute was a HUGE driving force Vaggie's martyr complex.
But they were close!!!! The care wasn't just once sided, I think Lute did love Vaggie. I think they both care for each other SO much, that's why it will hurt SO MUCH when it's LUTE as the one to de-wing and banish Vaggie. She LOVED her, she TRUSTED HER!!!!!
Trust that I will be delving deeper into this in the future ✊✊✊
So Emily and Sera's designs and roles in the story are pretty much the same, I liked them in canon! They were fun and offered an interesting addition to the show!!!!
The main thing I chose to change was basically their hair and skin color tbh. I understand what the show was TRYING to do, w the fact that they're supposed to be black (and apparently those are supposed to be dreads in Sera????) but.......... It wasn't good.
With their canon skin color, I know a lot of angels have gray skin but to me, it looked like the designers didn't know whether to make Sera and Emily (especially Sera) gray or flesh colored, which then resulted in them trying to meet it in the middle and left us with this,,,, really ashy looking black skin in some shots which I didn't like.
I decided to just make them a darker gray so they can both be seen as black and also keep consistent with angels having gray skin :)
ALSO THAT ONE DOODLE WITH EMILY LOOKING AT CHAGGIE, I PROMISEEEEEE THAT SHE DOESN'T LIKE EITHER OF THEM LIKE THAT, I JUST DID IT TO BE FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I think the ship is cute but personally, it's not for me ^^)
And finally..... ADAM!!!!!!!!!!!
So like Lute, Adam is basically a completely different character with that same name just slapped on.
I REALLY didn't like him in the show to be honest. I think we was an enjoyable character at times but he's totally like my second to last fav character (with my LEAST favorite being Lucifer LOL). I think it was an interesting take on Adam definitely!! To see him so cocky and full of himself bc of his title but....... It was just very...... Viziepop with the whole "original dick" thing......
Adam is the literal FATHER of humanity!!!? He is EVERYONE'S FATHER!!!!!! I don't understand the point of making him mean aside from the fact that he's supposed to be an opposing force in the show, but even then, just because he's the opposing force, doesn't mean he's gotta be a huge jerk!!!!!
I think it could be more interesting and add more nuisance to the story is Adam WAS this sweet, caring guy who, like the protagonists, is only doing what he thinks is right!
I'll delve more into Adam in my next post BUT everything he does is out of his trust in God and the Seraphims, he trusts them wholeheartedly and despite the fact that the Sinners of Hell were once his children too, he does what he must because his flaw isn't that he's egotistical or an asshole, it's that he cares and trusts with his entire being.
He's also best friends with Kris Kringle

Dark World, New Friend?
Date: October 5th, 2131
Oooooooh boy. Okay. You're never gonna believe what just happened.
So Papa and I were at the school in Hometowns helping my Auntie Toriel move classrooms. Some of my cousins were there helping too (how Papa even convinced me was a chance to see CK). While Papa and my older cousin Kris cleaned out Aunt Tori's old classroom, CK and I were helping clean the new classroom she was moving into.
I was just looking for a feather duster when I noticed the closet connected to the classroom was locked. When I asked Aunt Tori about it, she said Kris might have the keys but there was another door to the closet in the hall. After that CK exclaimed "RACE YA!" and was already out the door.
For as much as I love my cousin, he's always been really brash and never cautious. He might make fun of me for being overly cautious but at least I don't get into trouble all the time like he does.
Anyways, once we got to the door, I called for CK to wait, but like, as soon as he got close the doors sprung open and started... emitting darkness. Just like in my dream.
I tried to tell CK to wait or maybe have us grab an adult but, before I could say a word, he grabbed my hand and jumped in. Like I said. Always brash, never cautious.
After falling in to the closet, CK and I landed in a strange, dark place, as well as had some sort of costume change? CK looked like some kinda princely jester? Meanwhile I was wearing armor and had an apron and googles. There was also some sort of town or... well it felt more like a city honestly. There were all these buildings and strange monster like creatures and even a castle! Of course CK rushed a head again. Even I admit I sorta wanted to explore.
At some point while we were exploring, taking in this amazing city within the storage closet, CK got tackled by something. A round sorta bluish imp in a jester costume. He was soon accompanied by a short puppet with slicked black hair, a wide grin, glasses and a long nose, wearing a tattered black suit jacket. (Man, actually describing it, guess it looked kinda like me... or what I looked like before entering the strange world in the closet.)
We later learned the imp and puppet's names were Jevil and Spamton, and that they were not infact, weird monsters, but beings known as "Darkners". They also referred to us as "Lightners". (Jevil also called CK and I "green" which was weird because neither of us were. I was pink and yellow while CK like, his fur was orange and he was dressed in purples, blues, blacks and yellows)
Jevil seemed pretty excited about CK and I, at least I think, while Spamton sorta yelled at/berated him? I was still trying to process the whole situation when Kris found us. Looks like we were busted... Kris said the two of us weren't supposed to be there and this place was apparently "too dangerous for kids", even though they wouldn't tell us why and Jevil kept retorting their claims. CK and I also piped up with the fact that were a whole 9 years old and practically pre-teens already! (Despite the fact I like just barely turned 9 last month, it's not important)
Eventually we came to a compromise. Kris would test our strength and if we pasted by showing we knew how to ACT and spar and stuff, then we'd be allowed to stay and hang out in the strange closet world. Since the training dummy Kris wanted to use was apparently being used by other people according to Spamton (I'm guessing for a display since he mentioned display purposes only? Spamton talks a bit weird, I'll get into that some other time), Kris pointed us to a building labeled "Party Dojo"
Inside the Dojo, Kris talked to a blue puzzle shaped Darkner before leading CK and I to a sorta wrestling ring with a disco ball hanging above it. (Or, it WAS a disco ball. As soon as I looked away and back, it turned into a pumpkin. There's been a LOT of pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns around today.)
Once we all in the ring, we started the battle. Though the options were similar, something about battles in the closet dimension was still different from what I was used to. I had an actual weapon instead of just my magic and bullet patterns (a pair of dual blades) and we all fought as a together as a team. Kris ended up doing most the work... until they decided itd be better if CK and I fight THEM on our own. While CK seemed more than eager, the idea of fighting Kris sorta... scared me. Even if the other side of the area was more like the sparing I'm used to, I really don't like using my magic and didn't quite know how to use my new swords. (Just my luck CK got a hammer he seemed to nail down first try.) Even still, I had to attack if I wanted to show Kris I was strong and capable enough to hang out in this awesome place! So using all the courage I had, I swung my blades and attacked with my string magic. I think I even moved the battle box around, still don't really know how. Kris still ended up sparing both of us and ending the battle. (They ended up sparing me by praising my attack...)
Anyways, after the battle, Kris agreed to let us stay. Granted under their supervision and only for a while. The 5 of us headed to the Castle in the center of the town and had some pie, where I had a chance to get to know Spamton a bit more...

Time for the biggest batch of Pony Town cos': The Deltarune Edition! I started making these ones around late 2021 (possibly November) and I tried to make them as sprite accurate as I could so these ones are a lot more timeless regardless of how I change the way I stylize certain ponies.
Spamton G. Spamton. The very first one of my Deltarune cos', and probably the most iconic. I call him the Big Haired Big Shot. Spamton's head to body ratio is already bonkers in his sprite, so I tried to recreate that effect in PT. For the hair, I actually used one of my other ponies, Carlos, as the inspiration. He can also do the hands together thing he does in Deltarune.
Spamton Neo. Yup, it works for Neo as well. I was kind of worried that this wouldn't work, but it does! Works best when flying, but it's pretty funny seeing him lie down.
Kris. Yeah not much to say for Kris, but they're literally the easiest Deltarune cos you can do. Their eyes are closed, but I do have the pupils colored for expression sake whilst still being accurate.
Kris (DW). I fucking love this cos. It was fun to figure out how I should do the scarf and pauldron. It's on of my favourites of this set. Also has the eye thing like the light world counterpart.
Susie. Yeah LW Susie wasn't fun, especially after doing her DW counter part.
Susie (DW). FUCK YEAH SHE ROCKS. Only real gripe is with her hair.
Ralsei. Cute, but kind of ugly. One thing I've noticed is that people really don't try to do with the hat with horns when they do the hatted Ralsei.
Ralsei (No hat). Getting the goat horns just right because it is possible to do so. Definately experiamental with this one.
Berdly. Very smug indeed. Lovely.
Berdly (DW). You know, as I did more of these cos', I had gotten better at recogizing which options would work best with what I was trying to acheive. DW Berdly is a key example of this as getting his armor right used things I've done for Kris and Queen. Yeah these aren't in order how I made them, but I just want to keep things organized.
Noelle. Fun fact: Noelle is the only lightner that I had did their LW sprite before their DW. Yup. I did the more complicated designs first. Really the onlt thing about Noelle that I had really tried to figure out was her antlers. Yeah PT has antlers, but I wasn't really satisfied with them, they didn't seem Noelley enough.
Noelle (DW). To be honest, Noelle is easy to make in PT. I could've went with the shirt with hood option, but none of color options fit with what I was trying to do. Plus you wouldn't really notice that it's not there unless you move the head.
Lancer. Lancer's head is a hell of a pain to do. I'm not very satisfied with what I got, but it's the only thing that looks half decent with this style. He's extra round when he sits. Kind of took that idea of using the wings from someone else's Lancer, but I haven't seen anyone else but that person and I do it so it isn't a popular thing people do for Lancer, but it should honestly.
Queen. People have pointed out how I managed to give her that Megamind look, and I really appreciate it. I'm kind of surprised to see that she's the fourth Deltarune cos I made when I thought she was one of the later middle cos'. Her eyes do work like Kris' does. Another unique thing about this Queen cos is that I used the customizable mark to fix the curve between her top and bottom half.
Rouxls Kaard. One of my later ones as I holded off from doing him thinking he'd be a tough on to figure out. He was just like his puzzles. Like most of his detail in his sprite is in the one area where you can't see it on a pony.
Jevil. Ah Jevil, the first Deltarune character to appear in one of my dreams... He ran a fish taco stand. Uh other than that, one of my favoutie area on this cos is his ears. like they are so sprite accurate and very pretty. Everything else is standard fair with the others.
C Round. People love it whenever I switch to this cos, and whenever they put a crown on it...
K Round. You get this! Man it was tough figuring how to do the checker just right, but the results speak for itself. One of my favouties of the set. I've seen a few other's tries of making this character in PT, but they seem to get similar results to mine.
Rudin. A rare cos indeed. Actually I don't think I've ever seen another Rudin cos on PT. A shame really, I like Rudin's design.
Rudin Ranger. You thought regualr ol' Rudin was rare? Feast your eyes on this! Both of them are very pretty.
Hathy. It was the mouth I struggled the most with on. I do not have Head Hathy, I was too frustrated with this one.
Tasque. Meow. Another easy one to do, but doesn't get as much love as a certain...
Tasque Manager. Someone called my Tasque Manager cute a few weeks back. She was a fun one to make, but her tail breaks when she sits.
Maus. Not too difficult to make this Maus. This is also my newest Deltarune cos.
Since I have the room for them, here are some bonus Undertale cos' I have!
Frisk. I've been playing PT since 2017 and it took me until 2022 to make a Frisk cos. I still haven't made a Sans yet either which is surprising as I got into Undertale before I got into PT.
Asgore. My first UT cos, and it was Asgore of all people. Like seriously, you don't get to see Asgore cos' all to often if ever. This could probably be blamed by the fact that you don't get to spend that much time with him outside of his battle and most of what you learn about him is through everyone else experience with him.
Mettaton EX. The hardest thing I had to do with this cos was finding his his overworld sprite for his colors. Like everything else just using things I have done for other cos' like using the mask like how I did with K Round and Frieza. I guess I did have to think about hair options, but that is a given when it comes to making anything in PT. Anyway, that's the last of the set.

Vermillion Crystals - Kris and Queen (Update!)
I've been incredibly busy in my own life, so progress has been slow with the reboot (If it can even be called that), but, I have at least something!
First up, a redraw of Vermillion Kris. I decided I should make my own sprites for the sake of convenience and consistency. It'll be easier to make poses for Kris when I don't have to edit 99% of their spritesheet, also I wanted to match them with the way I stylized the Undertale human sprites. I also slightly redesigned them, changing their color palette to incorporate the darkened armor from their Demon design, featured in my last post about the future direction of the AU. I will not be updating the thumbnails for previous songs, as they are all now non-canon. New and more unique versions of what I've showed off will come in the future.
Onto something with a bit more substance, Queen! Building off of my ideas from the last post, she has a new design for her debut in Chapter 2! The idea is that, when she got overthrown and kicked out of her Mansion (which is now gonna be a Hotel/Casino, thanks to Spamton), she also got kicked out of her body! Which leaves her to have to built a new body with the scrap she finds around the Cyber Field (made possible with the help of Swatch and his Swatchlings). This DIY body (resulting in her final name being Q5U4EX7YY2E9N-DIY, or just Queen-DIY) was made to emulate her original look, but significantly stunted due to limited supplies. Thankfully, Sweet Cap'n Cakes left a lot of junk behind when they moved into Spamton's Hotel!
The design is loosely inspired by P03 from Inscryption, as seen by the claw and crank. I would provide the design of P03, but the nature of its physical appearances in the game are heavy spoilers, so proceed with caution.
But anyways, I also have a concept for the current state of the Cyber City! Thanks to Spamton bringing in so many viruses, the city had to have a Firewall installed in order to combat it. This prevents people from getting both out and in (although there's not much left in the Field at this point other than the people Spamton wants to keep out, so not much is lost by everyone being locked in), so it's impossible to get in, right?
Wrong!
Thanks to the exaggeration and expansion of things between the Light World and Dark World, the Firewall is a literal Fire Wall. Noelle joins the team much earlier (tagging in and out with Ralsei in combat) and helps the Fun Gang break into the city. The main track for the city is called "WELCOME TO THE [FireWall]!" and is actually complete! I want to wait a bit more for the au to have a substantial amount of content before I release any new tracks though.
And that's all for this update! I hope you enjoyed, and as always, Welcome to the SOUL Intersection.

(Very very sorry. I had to ramble a little about worldbuilding. It got out of hand.)
Nothing against the sans hyper fixation, i get it, i have it too.
but like... does anyone else wish there'd be a little more focus on other characters when it came to aus?
(BEAR WITH ME MY KNOWLEDGE COULD BE OUTDATED IF SOMETHING DOESN'T MAKE SENSE)
Like. For this huge clusterfuck of Sanses fighting other Sanses. A lot of them have home worlds right? Do they bring friends? Do they fight in the multiverse to protect them? Do they try to hide what they do? Is it just skeletons fighting in Dream and Nightmare's Groups or are there also Undynes popping up for backup? Is there a Toriel who Dream crashes with often? Someone other than Sans who is the only survivor of a destabilized world. Maybe there's a reason Sanses are most likely to survive? Is it chance? Is it the role he plays in most worlds? Is it a meta thing like Ink's relationship with Creators? Does Sans have some kind of cosmic plot armor due to our favor of him? Do the people who's world was destroyed, or destabilized, or kicked them out and have to live in the omega timeline, or crash with an alternate them, or live at Nightmare's Hideout-Castle-Thing jealous of characters with a home to return to when their job is done? Can we get Deltarune involved please?
Idk... The purely Sans groups are fun but surely there are more people helping the Stars and crashing with Nightmare's gang. I mean, mf has a castle. And Dream's cause seems to be pretty widespread.... Would Dust be chill enough with Kris to have them on the team? Would they pull the !#?@ Squad along or would Ralsei and/or Noel convince them to help Dream. Would they split in two? Are there people who's aus are perfectly fine but they decided to leave either because they were passionate enough for a cause, working off-world as a trade-off for protection or resources(like... food?) back home, or just- didn't like their universe at all? Susie and Noel fight on different sides but when SwapFell!Alphys helps booster Susie up into the castle so they can talk, nobody says a word. Underfell residents are even more cautious of eachother then before they were attacked since half of them now work for Nightmare and the others just want to get by? (Do Dream and Nightmare even look like Sans? Maybe they used to? Maybe they're a weird combination of Sans and Papyrus? It would make sense, they're twins afterall, but Sans and Papyrus come in Pair and don't look the same. Are they like Deltarune, perhaps? Technically the same person as Sans but with a role so twisted and different from the source that all resemblance is purely surface level? Doesn't that happen often? Nobody can really recognize faces anymore. Are you sure that's not normal? I think you're seeing things. Their auras do cause hallucinations on occasion. I'm sure they're normal. Just like Ink!)
Does Nightmare strategically pair up his soldiers so they're only fighting alongside different versions of themself in order to avoid bias from those who lost family? That's why the "Bad Sanses" are most infamous, perhaps? Because Nightmare looks most like them and therefore chooses Sanses as his closest thralls? But what about switched around Au's where someone who definitely looked like you is also definitely the guy would would've killed your family? What do you do about that? How do the Humans get on having all that DT in a space? Does the Most Determined Person change often? How do they interact with Killer?
What do Papyri think of short skeletons in scarves and hoodies, weighed down by an eternal grief and exhaustion carried in bags under their eye sockets? What do they think of the dust on that shady one's sleeves? And the way he's distracted by the nothing over his shoulder? What do Mutt and Red think of each other? What does Edge think of Mutt? Is it disturbing? Do they wonder what could've possibly changed to get where they are other than age? Is Paprika the Oldest? How old is Stretch? Edge made it into the Guard? Didn't Blue mention he was a teenager? How many kids have been mistaken for adults? How many lied? Is he okay? How does he possibly keep up with people like Ink and Dream? He kinda scares me. Do you think I could do that? What happened to Disbelief? Swapfell is surprisingly energetic. Edge, Paprika, do you need a Dentist? I know an Undyne-

i really dont think the dark worlds are escapism for susie - or at least if they are, it would contradict how susie acts in them. disregarding that theyre definitely not an escapist fantasy (berdly is ignored at every turn and doesnt have his smart-boy theme park, noelle is forced to face memories of dess that the world ignores in favor of pretending she never existed, literally everything w kris and spamton neo) susie actively goes AGAINST the hierarchy of the dark world system. she wants to be friends with the darkners and repeatedly points out how weird it is that theyre supposed to serve lightners, even mentioning spamton when ralsei tries to ignore it. and why would a person like SUSIE have a fantasy of an entire world of people totally subservient to her?
You're correct in the assertion that Dark Worlds are not a one-to-one escapist fantasy, yes! But that doesn't mean it cannot serve as escapism for the Lightner characters who visit it. There is a reason that every single Lightner who has visited a Dark World so far likes it there and/or wants to go back.
For Berdly, sure he does get ignored by Queen a lot of the time, and is unable to make his Gamer's Paradise. HOWEVER, he learns how to better connect to his peers, gets to come clean about how much keeping up the appearance of "smartness" weighs on him, and it's clear he's have a lot of fun being a cool knight in glow-in-the-dark-armor. He agrees with Noelle and Susie's initial plan to form another Dark Fountain.
[Image ID: Berdly right before attempting to create a Dark Fountain, saying "So is there any reason not to...?" End ID.]
For Noelle, yes, being in the Dark World brings up memories of Dess. But these memories aren't a bad thing, she's not disturbed by them. In fact, she's excited to be having an adventure, she's excited to be discovering new things about this new world! Her recalling how she and Dess and Asriel and Kris used to have adventures together too is more reminiscent and nostalgic, appreciative of getting the opportunity to have adventures like that again, and not indicative of someone who is being triggered by the situation at hand.
[Image IDs: The first five are from when Noelle and Kris walk through the December puzzle. Noelle says, "...when I said this city makes my head spin... I didn't mean in a bad way... you know? I always wanted to go someplace new, you know? ...And Dess... always told me she'd take me." and "...don't you miss exploring, Kris?". The last is of Noelle smiling, talking about the Dark World, "I've never... had an adventure like this before." End ID.]
For Kris... Kris is a more complicated case, because we oftentimes cannot see how they feel about a given situation. We do, though, have their two options in response to Susie saying the Darkners should come to their world, with "Yeah let's do it" being more enthusiastic and proactive then "Seems a little far-fetched". Also, I think it's safe to say they want to go back, for one reason or another. Because fucking uhhhh:
[Image ID: Kris opening a Dark Fountain at the end of Chapter 2. End ID.]
For Susie, in my original post I already gave examples of how much she favors the Dark World, how important it is to her, and how much she likes it there. Here, I'd like to define the term of escapism itself. Wikipedia describes escapism as a "mental diversion from unpleasant or boring aspects of daily life, typically through activities involving imagination or entertainment". It is important to note that in order for escapism to function, the "world" where you're escaping to does NOT need to be utopian. As someone who struggles with escapism myself, a lot of the media I use as an escape does have its own conflicts, flaws, angst, etc. The Dark World has it's issues too, but that doesn't mean it cannot provide an escape for those visiting it. There can be certain aspects of the Dark World that make Susie or the other characters uncomfortable, but as long as it is a better alternative to the "real" world, it can still be an escape.
So, here and within my previous post, I've begun to make a case that Susie displays signs of escapism. However, that still begs the question: Why is Susie susceptible to escapism, particularly within the Dark World?
From certain context clues, we can infer that Susie's home life is... Not great. In the start of chapter 1, she's afraid she's going to get expelled from the school, for something as menial as eating chalk. She says a bush is "basically [her] house now" because she took a nap in it. She drinks milk from an alleyway, completely unaware of where it's coming from. She doesn't call her parents when Toriel asks her to, and she can have impromptu sleepovers whenever she wants without telling them, meaning they're fine with her disappearing for an entire night (if they're still in contact with her at all). She sees herself as (metaphorically and physically) a monster, a bad person, someone who can never be a hero, someone who no one would want to be friends with:
[Image IDs: Susie right before her fight with Lancer in Chapter 1, saying, "I get it, y'know. Why would anyone..." She smiles bitterly. "...really wanna be my friend anyway?" End ID.]
I think it's safe to say that Susie, when we meet her at the beginning of Chapter 1, is unhappy. She's ostracized from her peers. She has little to no support network. She thinks all of her classmates are waiting for and want her to be expelled entirely. Given the position she is in, it's clear why she would want to find an escape. Thanks to the Dark World, she's able to connect to Kris and Noelle and even Berdly, she meets Ralsei and Lancer, she "becomes" a hero. After spending probably most of her life believing she's a bad person, in the Dark World she gets to be one of the GOOD guys (something she rejects at first because it doesn't align with her view of herself, but she's clearly much more comfortable with the title of hero as the story progresses). She gets to feel good about herself, she gets to feel good about what she's doing! She gets to save the world, she gets to use a cool axe, she gets to start learning healing magic, she gets to have fun with her new friends...
[Images IDs: Susie describing the Dark World, "And no matter what happens... No one tells us what to do!" End ID.]
You are right, anon, that a world of people subservient to her would not appeal to Susie. But the wish-fulfillment like nature of the Dark Worlds, the way they give her a chance to a hero, to be liked and appreciated for who she is, and even the way that the Darkners can't tell the Lightners "what to do", DOES. Susie wants to be free from authority, and the Dark Worlds present her with a situation where she can actively go against it, dismantle the system, and come out victorious and unscathed- something she cannot do in her own life. Susie does bring up how strange the whole "Darkner's purpose" thing is. She's clearly uncomfortable with most kinds of authority, and that means she's uncomfortable being the authority too. She does benefit from the way Lightners can pretty much do whatever the hell they want, but above that, she wants her and her Darkner friends to be equals. However...
I think that its somewhat important to note that, while its very prevalent in Chapter 1's narrative, the idea of it being Weird that Lightners are "meant" to serve Darkners takes a back seat in Chapter 2. We still see bits of it, like how we see Queen wanting to make the Lightners happy, but it's rarely ever called to attention in the way it was in Chapter 1: Susie telling Ralsei to quit it with the purpose talk, the Spade King's motivations against the Lightners, and Seam talking about the relationship that Lightners and Darkners used to have. We don't get to see a lot of that discussed in Chapter 2. Ralsei has taken Susie's advice. He's acting less compliant, learning sarcasm from her, and considering who he is outside of his destiny. Outwardly, he's displaying less of that "Darkner's purpose" mentality. Susie seems to be happy with this, and she doesn't bring it up in Chapter 2, because to her, the problem has been "solved", at least somewhat. In fact, almost none of the characters mention this Weirdness in Chapter 2. It is an inconvenient truth that can be pushed to the side.
Where we DO see this idea of the power imbalance between Lightners and Darkners utilized the MOST is within Spamton's subplot. But, for a large portion of that plot, Susie isn't present. Kris goes into the Spamton shop and (initially) the basement alone. Susie knows something is off, she realizes how uncomfortable Kris is, but she doesn't see a lot of what Spamton says about "heaven" and about being free. This is purposeful. Susie so far has been the one who's most directly against the power imbalance. Not allowing her to see more examples of it with Spamton's plot allows her to continue not thinking about it. It allows the imbalance to continue being swept under the rug. In fact, when talking about what was weird about the Spamton battle, Susie doesn't even mention "heaven":
[Image ID: Susie after the Spamton battle, listing it's oddities, "Puppets... strings... hands..." End ID.]
The power imbalance of Darkners and Lightners is weird to her, but it's not a deal-breaker. She still enjoys being in the Dark World. She still has fun there. She still stays up all night thinking about it. And, at the end of the day...
[Image ID: Susie smiling and saying to Kris at the end of Chapter 1, "Let's go back there tomorrow, alright?" End ID.]
She wants to go back.
In conclusion, I really do think the Dark Worlds provide escapism for Susie. They are not a perfect fantasy, but they don't have to be. As long as they are a better alternative to her life in Hometown, as long as they are giving her an adventure, giving her the friends she thought she could never have, giving her a chance to "be a good person", and a break from the expectations and pressures of her life...
[Image ID: Susie talking while Kris and her stand in front of the Dark Fountain, "But... is that really a bad thing...? Since they started showing up, Everything's gotten a lot more interesting, hasn't it...? ..." End ID.]
"Well, we don't have to think about that now..."
It's an escape.
#sorry for writing a fuckin essay and a half anon I just feel strongly about this one.#I dunno if this is well organized or anything. probably not. but it was fun.#I wanna do more analysis like this in the future mayhaps... Incoherent musings on Jevil, Spamton, and their themes.
I do not have enough music knowledge to talk about this in detail, but I really really love how well THE WORLD REVOLVING and BIG SHOT deliver the emotions and personalities of their respective characters, as well as their contrasting views on freedom.
Jevil believes that he IS free, and it’s a recurring theme in his backstory. After the theme of ‘your choices have consequences’ in Undertale, and ‘your choices don’t matter’ in Deltarune, Jevil’s philosophy of ‘my actions have no consequences, so I can do anything’ feels like a direct response to both. Likewise, his absolute joy in freedom from consequence also feels like an answer to Flowey’s boredom, Sans’ apathy, and Chara’s judgement.
Jevil’s battle feels distinctly different from Asriel’s, Photoshop Flowey’s, and Sans’ boss fights. Photoshop Flowey wants to gain godlike power. Asriel has achieved godlike power, and now desperately fears the game ending and Chara saying goodbye. Sans fights to make the player ragequit, distinctly not seeing the world as a ‘game’. But why does Jevil fight?
Because he wants to. He was lonely and wanted someone to play with.
Jevil doesn’t really get anything from beating you, and he doesn’t really offer you any prize for beating him. Sure, he says unlocking him will help ‘free’ the party, but he presents the fight itself as a simple game, and seems to be enjoying himself immensely. Even when he loses, he’s not that upset, just remarking that the party has tired him out, musing on the challenges ahead, and daring them to do their best with Jevilsknife or Jevilstail. He doesn’t really seem to be rooting for or against the party, at least how I read the lines-- just curious.
If there are truly no consequences, then there’s no reason to be sad about losing, and so he can truly just have fun with this fight. And his theme reflects that. It’s fast-paced and manic, but also jubilant and bombastic, with lots of horns and pipes.
Spamton on the other hand... Spamton started from a very low place, with big dreams. With that ‘mysterious person’s help, he achieved everything he desired, but then lost it and fell fast, and hard. Spamton is also obsessed with freedom-- not because he has it and loves it, but because he wants it. And he seems to believe being big, being the one in control, is the only way he can attain that freedom.
Jevil’s ‘freedom’ is connected to prisons, both literal and metaphorical. Often a prison implies a jailor and one to enforce consequences, but if someone can escape or avoid the law, then there’s very little way to threaten them and enforce said consequences. Spamton’s ‘freedom’ is connected to puppet strings, which implies both a puppeteer and a puppet-- where the puppet is afforded no freedom and no consequences, but the puppeteer’s actions have consequences for the puppet.
In another parallel, Jevil lost everything by being locked up by the Kings, but only seems to regret being a bit lonely now. The benefits of his ‘freedom’ are very mindset-based. Spamton’s ‘benefits’ seem extremely material-- big cars, big room in the Queen’s mansion, big deals big gigs. He was the puppeteer calling the shots, then he loses everything when his benefactor stops helping him.
Spamton’s theme is much less like normal music. It’s frenetic, desperate, glitchy, all over the place, like he was borrowing and grabbing at anything he could. While The World Revolving only uses leitmotifs from Don’t Forget, Big Shot uses leitmotifs from Now’s Your Chance To Be A, Power of NEO, Dummy!, and some of Napstablook’s themes. It starts out big and cinematic and scary, and immediately goes strange, switching between something grand it wants to be, and something... stitched-together. Like he’s trying to imitate a ‘big shot’ but just can’t get it all to be coherent. It also repeats the spoken phrases ‘now’s your chance to be a big shot’, it’s obsessive, like how Spamton utterly fixates on becoming so big and escaping the loneliness and darkness.
Speaking of the loneliness and darkness... did you know ‘now’s your chance to be a big shot’ aren’t the only lyrics in the song? According to a comment on a youtube video I found, from one minute five seconds in, you can hear:
Answer me please, answer the phone. Can't spend another minute all alone. Pull the strings and make it ring. Don't you wanna be free? Answer me please, answer the phone. Can't spend another minute all alone. Pull the strings and- Pull the strings and- Don't you wanna be a [[BIG SHOT!]]
It’s also interesting that while beating Jevil leaves him satisfied but tired... beating Spamton is heartbreaking, quite literally shooting him down when he seems capable of achieving that so-hoped-for freedom, with the help of Kris, his fellow puppet who he’s been projecting onto. While Jevil had nothing to lose and gave away Jevilsknife/Jevilstail out of curiosity, Spamton lost whatever hope he had, all over again. And so it feels... more meaningful that he gave Kris the Dealmaker/FibreScarf. He was projecting onto Kris, and it was definitely a lot of his own issues, yes. But he still wasn’t wrong there were parallels between them-- and I believe his desire for Kris to cut their own strings was a genuine attempt at helping them.
Because there are no consequences for Jevil, he doesn’t care if we win or lose, there is no investment in Kris’ story for him, just entertainment. He is closer to us, the Player. Because Spamton is very materialistic and knows what it’s like to lose everything and be abandoned, he is neither apathetic nor uninvested, and I think is actually very invested in Kris’ story, not just curious about how it’ll go. But all he can do to help them now is give them new armor, well-wishes, and cryptic hints about things to come.
From prisons to puppets, I’m very excited to see the other secret boss’ takes on freedon.

Watch me go on anon for deltarune requests only--
Okay. This is stupid but. Reader really likes to hug Lancer?? He looks so huggable fr. Platonic relationship would be best!
I too would also love to hug Lancer. He's just so round and adorable! I considered buying the Lancer plush but it sold out before I had the chance. Now, I hope you enjoy this! It was a lot of fun to write.
⚔Mod Peko⚔
You’re pretty much Lancer’s parent in this one (and maybe susie’s if this story continued)
“Lancer you can’t go that way remember! You set all those traps for the Fun Gang to the left.” You quickly run up to the small child before he can walk right into his own trap. Picking him up, you bring him into an embrace. Lancer wraps his pudgy arms around your neck. He takes a minute to look at the two paths before looking up at you.
“Well honk my whistle! You’re right. See this is why you’re the best evil knight. Those clowns won’t know what hit them!”
“How about I carry you the rest of the way. If you walk you’ll get too tired to fight the heroes.”
“Hohohoho! What a great idea [Name]! See, it was brilliant to convince Lesser Dad to let you be my dark knight.” Lancer gleamed as he climbed his way up to your shoulders. He liked sitting up there. He says it gives him great practice for when he builds his elevated throne that will also be on fire…..You weren’t so sure about the fire.
Originally, you just babysat Lancer to help Rouxls get a break once in a while. But eventually you became his knight in a shining cape. The cape is from Lancer. He said that armor was too clownish and even got your name embroidered onto the back of it.
A lot of the time you felt like Lancer’s parent. Sometimes he would even slip up and call you his Lesser Parent. And honestly you love him like you would love your own child. He’s just so cute and small you can’t help but want to hug him and support him through whatever weird interests he has.
Now you had no plans to fight the Fun Gang. You mostly just wanted to keep the small boy entertained. And you could tell that the Lighteners know that Lancer means no harm. As long as Lancer was safe you knew you wouldn’t have to fight.
“When we find the Lighteners you have to use your super cool Dark Knight Magic against them!”
“Of course Lancer! I’ll make sure to whip those fools into shape.” No you won’t.
Coming to the end of the checkered light floor you set Lancer down on the ground. Upon his instructions you and Lancer get into menacing poses for when the Lighteners show up. About 20 minutes pass and your arms are getting sore. Another 10 minutes is when the Fun Gang decides to finally show up.
“Well, stomp on my boots! The Fun Clowns arrive. Well you’re going to have to fight to the extreme. For my Dark Knight will give you a proper beating!” The metaphorical camera pans to you. If fanfictions had sound effects there would be a squeaky toy noise. You are then brought into the battle, the heroes drawing their weapons. The boy clad in green calls out to you telling you that Susie would attack. This lets you have a chance to dodge the axe swing.
“Hohoho! It’s time for their super powered dark move! It’ll bring an end to you, Lighteners.”
It is now your turn. You would use your biggest attack if this were a real battle. But for now one of your simple attacks will do. Pulling back your cape you bring your arm up and cast ‘Dark Wind!’. A current picks up in the air and a rain of purple glitter falls over the Fun Gang, decreasing their attack by 20 percent.
Kris pulls up their act menu and notices that your name is already yellow. You didn’t actually want to fight do you? Bringing Ralsei to the side they sign something to him. They were happy someone here was able to understand them. After Kris was done signing Ralsei turned to you and Lancer with a happy glow.
“Excuse me, could we perhaps have a time out. The move really got us beat and we would like to give your Dark Knight some praise.” Susie gave the two a confused, and mildly angry, look.
Lancer quite comically brought his hand up to his chin. You could practically see a thought bubble appear above his head. “Hmm. Well you losers!!! are as good as dead anyway! It’ll be good for my knight’s self esteem to hear some praise. Go ahead, Lighteners.”
Walking up to you Ralsei leans in to whisper in your ear. “We know you don’t want to fight...well Kris and I more than Susie. How about we put on a small show for Lancer. I’ll cast one of my pacify spells and put you to sleep for a bit.” You take a moment to ponder before nodding in agreement.
You both walk back to your places and the battle continues. Kris holds up their shield in defense and orders Ralsei to “attack”. Narrowly dodging Susie’s axe you ready yourself for Ralsei’s spell. The prince casts his spell and a wave of sleepiness rushes over you. In your sleepy daze you do not see or hear Lancer let out a dramatic gasp.
Opening your eyes you see that same checkered floor. Looking around Susie is standing behind you with Lancer at her side. Why is she on your side now? Standing up, Lancer bounces up to you in excitement.
“Hohoho! [Name]! Susie has joined our evil dark forces. Now we can finally have a use for that third matching cape Lesser Dad refused to wear!”
“This wasn’t the plan….” Poor little Ralsei mopes.
“Enough of you squares! We have to go and plan our next evil move! And figure out which pg rated comedy we will be watching at our diabolical sleepover.”
Snickering Susie yells in agreement. “Yeah! Squares!! You’ll be crushed in the dirt….What was that last part.”
“See you Clowns later! If you can even survive that long!” Lancer then turns to you with his arms up making grabby hands. Leaning down you let him climb up onto your shoulders...Sorry, his temporary evil throne.
With a smile you look at Suise. “Would you like to be carried as well?” This flusters the purple girl.
“What?! No!.....m-maybe later...Ugh! Wait! No, let's just go plot already.” She quickly makes her way into the dark forest. You, with Lancer on your shoulders, follow her. Leaving behind Kris and Ralsei.

Fan Review/Rant: Rogue & Gambit #1
"Ring of Fire:" The arc "Ring of Fire," links Rogue and Gambit with another iconic Southern duo in sharing its name with the 1961 country song written by June Carter and covered by Johnny Cash-- while they were both still married to other people-- equating sensuality with destruction. A line from the song, “I fell for you like a child,” particularly fits Rogue and Gambit. For in leaving home, traveling the world, and in ending up falling in love someone from the other side of the river-- is the unspoken hope of a second chance at childhood. Further layering the multi-tiered work R&G is proving to be, is the possibility that the title could additionally refer to the zone of volcanic and seismic activity that surrounds the Pacific Ocean which is also called the "ring of fire". This is interesting because not only does volcanic activity have the potential to create lush and fertile tropical islands, which is where R&G is set, but because it further alludes to natural intensity churning below the surface which has been essential to much of Rogue and Gambit's relationship.
The cover: The cover of R&G #1 is drawn as though from the perspective of someone about to be punched in the face by Rogue with a split second before the punch lands to enjoy a superb view. Kris Anka’s proportions and foreshortening are flawless. With Gambit’s care-free grin, Rogue’s smug smirk and raised eyebrow, the cover suggests that the series is going to be as much fun as those two are having. Frank D'Armata makes fantastic use of their signature colors, incorporating both the same shade of pink for Gambit’s eyes, armor, and charged playing cards, and the same green for Rogue’s eyes and suit into the series’ title lettering. Though the cover is undeniably enjoyable and gets the reader’s curiosity as peaked as Rogue’s eyebrow, it would have been more engaging if it was specific to this particular issue since the absence of plot-related substance makes it feel slightly generic. However, the technical skill behind it is too solid for any criticism beyond that.
a spread of ice or glass?: The comic begins with nine ordered rectangular panels containing: white blank spaces; images of Rogue and Gambit in a fight that is yet to come; and images of their shared past. The next two pages contain a spread of the two crashing through more past images in broken shards, displaying both Rogue's borrowed "flying brick" powers and Gambit's explosive force powers that break things apart from the inside. The broken shard imagery calls to mind two things: glass and ice. Viewing the shards as glass can be further broken down to two readings-- the first of which is best described by Battle of the Atom's Zach Jenkins as a shattered stained glass window. It is as though their relationship itself is a great mosaic of moments that is being destroyed. The second reading regarding glass is that each shard is merely reflecting Rogue and Gambit, but at a different times in their relationship. This recalls the images of Rogue contained under glass in framed photographs and on screens in Gambit vol.4-- as though their relationship was preserved but inaccessible. Lastly, the imagery also suggests ice, and that what they are crashing through is merely the surface of their relationship. Only once that is broken through can a deeper meaning be discovered. The significance of ice is evident with Rogue #1 (2001), in which Rogue is described as "a river of anger beneath... frozen indifference," the events in Antarctica of UXM #348-350 (1997), and XML #234 (2010) in which Rogue likens her sexual attraction to Gambit to melting snow.
"If time is a circle...": The prologue: “If / time / is / a / circle / then / everything / happens / at // once" indicates that the series will recap the evolution of their relationship. Much of this approach works and is achieved with small details in the writing and art. For example Gambit leaning in a doorway, allied with "Stormy" lightly retreads his introduction in Uncanny X-Men #266 (1990). Pérez gives the characters a fantastic range of facial expressions from smug to sensual, and Gambit's boyishness shines through, especially in the shard containing the aftermath of the X-Men #4 (1992) basketball game in which Gambit grabs Rogue. Gone is the chiseled pirate that Jim Lee drew. Instead Pérez draws Gambit like a big goofy kid, suggesting that even though the basketball game was over, Gambit and Rogue were still playing, although it was another kind of game. My favorite of Pérez's variations on back issues is the addition of Gambit's smile in a panel from X-Men #24 (1993). Pérez's action sequence in the Danger Room is fantastic, particularly when Rogue is so distracted by Gambit that she is hit by a sentinel fist, which takes on symbolic poignancy as a superhero whose powers are initiated through touch is immobilized by a giant hand. After the training session, Gambit ends up on top of Rogue with their lips centimeters apart, recalling Gambit #1 (1993). Their post-breakup friendship which was highlighted in XML #265 (2012) is emphasized as Gambit calls Rogue his best friend, and later Gambit suggests that they seize the opportunity for legitimate romance in the midst of an obvious trap as he did in Astonishing X-Men #4 (2017).
"Same as ever?": Other details in the characterizations do not work quite as well, specifically Rogue's return to her XM #4 (1992) disposition that requires Gambit to insistently initiate any kind of communication, and even worse, perpetuates the stereotype of a woman who says no-- but really means yes. It reads like they are back in the 1990s-- before they lived together, and before they were able to treat each other civilly as friends. Rogue even protests being in the same room as Gambit. While this is done to reestablish their early dynamic within this series, I would rather that behavior be left to the past. I also disliked their discussion on Deadpool. Instead of taking issue with Rogue becoming romantically involved with an assassin (to which Rogue could have rebuffed with Gambit's marriage to the head of the Assassins Guild), Gambit complains, "He doesn't even have a face." A lot of Gambit's charm is not just that he is conventionally attractive, but that he treats others as though they are too, and in Deadpool v Gambit (2016), Gambit even seemed to think of Deadpool as friend. While I understand that it is meant as a joke, and appreciated Rogue's defense of, "I didn't kiss Deadpool. I made out with him," her line: "maybe not having a face makes people... I don't know try harder. Maybe people as pretty as you have it too easy" struck me as too immature to be redeemably funny. In Uncanny Avengers #8 (2016) Rogue is confronted with Deadpool appearing as he would prefer to look, and tries to break the illusion gently knowing he is sensitive about it. Part of what made Rogue's brief romance with Deadpool so memorable was her willingness to take on Wade's scars and tumors in UA #22 (2017)-- especially when taking into account her character growth since preferring to kill Angel rather than take on his physical mutations in Dazzler #22 (1982).
"...something bigger": Shadowcat's line, "You're focused on the wrong thing. These mutants need your help, Rogue," and the inclusions of a gay couple and an interracial couple suggests a progressive social commentary in the background of R&G. Already, two very different sides of Paraíso are shown: a city where people presumably live, and the beautiful exclusive resort that locals probably could not afford to stay at. Perhaps R&G will indirectly touch on the effects of colonialism, or the exploitation of a country's natural beauty while ignoring the needs of the people who actually live there. As Gambit is from New Orleans, which depends on tourism for a large part of its revenue, it will be interesting to see if these dynamics will play a role as the series continues. The greatest of Rogue's and Gambit's many similarities to each other is not that they are from the south or had troubled childhoods. It is their acknowledgement that everyone needs to be accepted regardless of their differences. Being on a team that works towards everyone being accepted as they are and being free to love who they love is what brought them together. It's not just fighting, it's work, and I hope R&G allows them to work towards achieving that acceptance and love for others, and finally for themselves.

SERVERTALE Chapter 16: Following directions
Ne and slasher are running across the city rooftops. They decided that it was best that they don’t use their vehicles, so that they could take the higher and less obvious way. Ne: We’re almost there. Lets run through the plan one more time. Slasher: We get as close to the EDS building as possible, before we grapple up there together. We avoid windows so that we don’t get spotted. I wait on the roof While you sneak in and get yourself connected. Ne connects his helmet with Amy’s mask so that she could hear their progress while she’s at his house. Ne: Did you hear all of that, Amy? Amy: Loud and clear. Remember, try not to use your powers and avoid meeting any guards. Ne: Don’t worry about me. I got this. Ne and Slasher reach the building. Ne holds on to Slasher while he fires off his grapple and pulls himself and Ne all the way to the rooftop. Slasher: So, do you have anything special planned out for me here while you do your part, or not? Ne: As far as I’m concerned, you can go. I only needed your help for the climbing part. Slasher: Alright. I’m gonna head back to your house to keep Amy company. She’ll probably go crazy from missing all of this and being alone. Amy: Hey, I heard that! Slasher: Whoops. Ne: Looks like you’re gonna need to come back with an apology. Slasher: Oh, shut up. Have fun with your break in. Slasher jumps off the roof and grapples to a nearby building, giving himself a nearby landing before continuing to run in the direction of Ne’s house. Ne: Okay, now to get in this place. Ne goes to the rooftop entrance and phase shifts through the lock, popping out on the other side. The hallway is empty, giving him free passage, except for one camera. Amy: Don’t damage it. You don’t want to leave any obvious evidence. Ne: There are other ways to shut down a camera. Ne absorbs the camera’s power and it shuts down. Amy: Better move quick. I don’t think that cameras randomly crashing is quite normal for this place. Ne: Yup, good thing that the door of Kris’ room is terribly protected. Ne runs to the door. Just as he is about to phase shift through it, Amy stops him. Amy: Wait! Was there anyone in the room last time? Ne: Oh yeah, good save. There are two guards, one on each corner closer to the door. Amy: You can’t let them see you. Ne: I know. I got a solution for that as well. Ne concentrates on his powers. He remembers the lights on the ceiling of Kris’ room. He uses the energy of the lights and turns them into neon bullets. Before the guards react, Ne hits the guards with the bullets, knocking them out. He stands still, listening to check if they are maybe still awake. Since he doesn’t hear anything, he phase shifts into the room. The guards were, indeed, knocked out. Ne unzips his jacket and takes two cable ties from his inner pocket and uses them on both guards. When he is done, he immediately zips up his jacket. Ne: Don’t want you two randomly waking up and grabbing your guns. Amy: Do you really enjoy talking to yourself that much. Ne: It’s not talking to myself if you’re listening. And yes, yes I do. Ne quickly accesses Kris’ computer. He sees a lot of files about Kris’ allies and enemies. Ne: This will be useful as well. After a short time of searching, Ne finds the camera broadcast system. He transfers the camera system and the data files to his helmet. Just as he does that, all of the windows get protected by metal plates closing over them as an alarm goes off. Amy: Good job. Ne: Well I didn’t hear you trying to stop me. Amy: You have to get out quickly, they’re probably coming right now. Ne: Oh, you don’t say? Ne quickly phase shifts out of the room back into the hallway. He hears many footsteps and voices slowly approaching. “The alarm came from Boss’ room. The data has been compromised.” Ne: Sorry Kris. Ne quickly dashes through the now armored rooftop entrance, breaking the door and the metal plates that were supposed to make it impassable. “That came from the entrance. Split up. Group A take the entrance, group B check Kris’ room.” “Understood.” By the time group A reaches the entrance, Ne already jumped down to ground level and started running back to his house. Not wanting to create his bike so that he doesn’t attract too much attention, he uses his super speed to run through small alleys. Group B unlocks the door to Kris’ room and enters. All of them had their guns ready, but noticed that there’s no one there. After a few seconds, they notice the knocked out guards. “Are they alive?” After checking their vitals, the group finds out that the room guards are just unconscious and they notice the cable ties. “Whoever this was, they weren’t from Sentinels. If they were, these guards would have been dead instead of knocked out.” “We have to inform Kris about this.” Ne reaches his street pretty quickly and uses one of his secret passageways to the house. Ne: I’m back. Ne enters the living room, where he finds Amy and Slasher sitting on the couch. Amy: Well that was interesting to watch. Ne: What can I say, not everyone is a stealth and hacking pro like you. Amy: But you did get the job done. Ne shows all of the cameras on the TV screen. Ne: Yup. I got some files about Kris’ allies and enemies as well. Slasher: Oooh, I wan’t to read that. It’s like a diary, military edition. Ne and Amy both looked at Slasher confused. Slasher: Yes, that’s a thing now, don’t judge me. Ne and Amy: Okay then. Slasher: That was accurate. Ne: We know. Amy: Okay, but seriously, If I can’t help today, can I at least come back tomorrow? Ne: Fine. You can. Amy: YUS. Thanks, N! Amy hugs Ne tightly and Ne blushes softly. Ne: Uhhh... Yeah, no problem. Slasher: Imagine the advantage we have over Sentinels now with these cameras and the data you just brought. Ne: It’s a good start, but we’ll need more. Amy: What do you suggest? Ne: We play their game. Slasher: Oh? So you mean that we’re gonna track them and follow their activity. Ne: Exactly. Slasher:; That’s actually pretty smart. When do we begin? Ne: Whenever you want. Amy: I think that the sooner we start, the better. Slasher: She’s right. We’ll want time on our side. Ne: Than it’s settled. Amy, you will handle the cameras and the info on our enemies to help out Slasher, since I have another copy of everything. Amy: Alright, Anything special I should know about the commands. Ne: Don’t worry about that, I’ll set them up. Kris went back to his base as soon as he got the alert on his phone. He asked one of the guards what happened and she told him that she didn’t know, explaining that no one got to see the intruder and that the cameras haven’t recorded anything neither. He went to his room, changed his outfit to a more casual one and took a taxi to Ne’s house. Kris reaches the door. As he grabs the handle, he notices that the door is unlocked so he goes in. When he enters the house, he hears Amy, Ne and Slasher discussing something. Slasher: But what if you just gave her a bigger dose, wouldn’t that make it last longer? Ne: It would just burn out faster. Amy: I’m doing better anyway. I’m good right now. Ne: Not good enough. Kris walks into the room and notices all three of them, and the big TV with all of the cameras on display, confirming his doubts. Kris: Do you realize what all of you just did? Slasher: I have no idea what you’re talking about. Kris: You broke into my base! Ne: Slasher will pay for the door. Kris: I’m not talking about the damages. You stole my data. Ne: I prefer to use the word “duplicated”. Kris: I don’t care what you did. That’s still messed up. Amy: Oh, come on. We just borrowed some of your info. Not like you don’t have it anymore. Kris: That data was private Amy Ne: Just like our identities, but I bet you have a lot about us. Kris: Well, I do about Dominik, but not that much about you two. Ne: Lets keep it that way. You said that you would help, right? Well... this is how we bring down the Sentinels. Kris: What are you talking about? Slasher: Isn’t it obvious? With these, we can track their every move. Amy: It will be way more easy to predict their tactics when we can see them all the time. Kris: Okay, you got a point there, but how do you plan to watch everything at the same time? Ne: I can watch the cameras through my helmet, while Amy will inform Slasher from here. Kris: Wait, why aren’t you fighting with them? Amy: I’m sick... At least, that’s what Ne claims. Ne: She’s done for today. Kris: How do you know that? Ne: I know her illness perfectly. Kris: So you’re some kind of a doctor all of a sudden. Amy: It’s a magic problem. Kris: Oh. She has a weakness, or something? Ne’s visor looses all color as he answers. Ne: None of your business. Kris: What is that supposed to mean? Slasher: Better drop the conversation, He really doesn’t like talking about his and Amy’s soul problems. Kris looses patience and starts walking towards the exit. Kris: Fine. Protect your secrets while you exploit mine. See if I care. Kris exits the house. The lights on Ne’s visor return. Slasher: I knew that he wouldn’t like this. Ne: That’s his problem. We need this information to help us, and as much as I can see, he has more than enough. Frisk keeps running through the Core. It is way brighter than the other areas. The metal floors are bright blue and the neon lights are just making it even more brighter. Frisk has been traveling through the core for some time already. She has reached a bridge with a laser wall blocking the path. Alphys calls Frisk. Alphys: Looks like you can’t proceed until you hit the switch. B-but, those lasers will activate when you do. Ummm... Looks like they’ll come in this order: Orange. Orange. Blue. Frisk hits the switch. The lasers start approaching, but they’re in the complete opposite order than what Alphys said. Chara: What the hell!? Luckily, the antidote healed Frisk completely by now, so she was able to react fast enough. She crosses the bridge. Alphys: Oh my god, are you okay? I... I’m sorry, I gave you the wrong order. E-everything’s fine, okay? L-let’s just keep heading to the right. Chara: No. Everything is not fine. Frisk: I’ll actually try doing the complete opposite of what she tells me. Who knows, we might find a shortcut or something. Chara: I wouldn’t be surprised, to be honest. Alphys: A crossroads... Uhh... Tr... Try continuing forward! Frisk questionably looks at Chara and Chara realizes that Frisk is trying to decide if she should continue going forward or not. Alphys: W-Wait! No, I think you should h-head north! Chara: Okay, just keep following the path. Frisk ignores Alphys and goes to the next room. Just like the both of them expected, it was the right decision. Alphys: W-why didn’t you go to the left room? Frisk: I wanted to check what is in this one. It looks like the right path anyway. Alphys: F-fine, yeah, you-you’re right. M-more lasers... Okay, I... I won’t mess around this time. I’ll just deactivate the lasers and let you through... They’re... They’re not turning off... I can’t turn them off, I... I-i-it’s okay! I have this under control! I’m going to turn off the p-power for that whole node. Then you can walk across. Suddenly, all the lights and the lasers in the area turn off. Frisk carefully starts walking through the bridge. Alphys: W-WAIT! STOP! All of the lights and lasers turn back on. The blue lasers harmlessly pass through Frisk, trapping her in place. Alphys: Th-the power... It’s turning itself back on. D-damn it... I can’t turn it off. You’re trapped. Chara: Why doesn’t this surprise me. As frisk looks around, trying to find a solution, she sees in the distance a tinny blue light turning on in the darkness, before the lasers turn off again, but the rest of the power stays on. The small light disappears. Alphys: Wait... how? I-I mean, I fixed it! You c-can pass now. Frisk moves on to the next room. Alphys: OK! Y-you should... you should... I don’t know? This isn’t going according to plan at all... Alphys hangs up. Chara: Guess we messed up her trap. Frisk uses the save point in front of her. The air is filled with the smell of ozone... it fills you with determination. 01000110 01101001 01101100 01100101 00100000 01110011 01100001 01110110 01100101 01100100 00101110 Frisk: Where do we go now? Chara: Try the left path. Frisk: Any special reason for that? Chara shrugs. Chara: Just a hunch. Frisk listens to Chara and takes the left path. She remembers the height she is on right now, after seeing the clouds bellow the platform she is walking on. As she walks, Frisk wonders what was the source of the clouds in the first place, not being able to decide if they were programmed or created. Pretty quickly, she sees another path leading to the left. Chara: Turn here. Frisk enters the room and finds another puzzle just like the ones in Hotland. After a few attempts, she solves it and continues forward. Frisk: How do you know where we need to go? Chara: I have some memories of this place. Gaster often worked in the Core and I was helping him out sometimes. Frisk: So he knows you. Chara: Maybe. As much as I know, the other monsters weren’t the ones that forgot the most, they only forgot him. From what I can tell, he seems lost. He might have forgotten something as well. Sans probably knows more about that. Frisk: We need to ask him later on. After some more exploring and befriending monsters, Frisk finally reaches the elevator and a save star. Behind this door must be the elevator to the King’s castle. You’re filled with determination. 01000110 01101001 01101100 01100101 00100000 01110011 01100001 01110110 01100101 01100100 00101110 Chara: We’re getting close. Frisk breathes in, preparing herself for whatever waits through the door and walks in. Darkness replaces the blue walls, as Frisk approaches Mettaton, blocking the path. Chara: How long was he standing there? MTT: THIS IS IT. THIS WILL BE OUR FINAL “FIGHT”. BEFORE WE DO THIS, I JUST WANT TO SAY... I DON’T WANT TO PLAY BY ALPHYS’ RULES ANYMORE. THE WHOLE... KILLER ROBOT THING? THAT’S NOT ME. I DON’T WANT TO HARM ANYONE. I ALWAYS WANTED TO ENTERTAIN, BRING JOY TO PEOPLE. BUT THIS IS NOT IT. AS WE SPEAK, ALPHYS IS HEADING HERE AND SHE IS PLANNING TO “SHUT ME DOWN”, MAKING HERSELF YOUR SAVIOR AND THE HEROINE OF THE STORY. BUT IN REALITY... SHE’S REALLY NOT. SHE WATCHED YOU TRAVEL THROUGH THE COMPUTERWORLD. AN IDEA CAME TO HER MIND. IF SHE WOULD FIND A WAY TO CAPTURE YOU, SHE EXPECTED THAT SHE WOULD IMPRESS UNDYNE AND THE KING, AND HER WISH TO DO SO ONLY GREW STRONGER AS YOU PROGRESSED. I ATTEMPTED TO HELP YOU OUT A FEW TIMES, BUT FOR THE REST OF THE SITUATIONS, YOU EITHER HAD GOOD LUCK, OR... SOMEONE ELSE PROTECTING YOU AS WELL. BUT THAT DOESN’T MATTER NOW. WITHOUT THE FURTHER ADO... The lights on the platform Frisk and Mettaton are standing turn on, glowing a bright red and all of the cameras turn on. Frisk hears someone running behind her, but the doors closed. She hears loud banging on the door seconds after. Alphys: H-hey!!! Wh-wh-what’s going on!! I-i-i can’t get in! Mettaton grabs his microphone as the show starts. MTT: SORRY, FOLKS! THE OLD PROGRAM’S BEEN CANCELLED!!! BUT WE’VE GOT A FINALE THAT WILL DRIVE YOU WILD!! The platform suddenly starts raising with huge speed, throwing Frisk out of balance. MTT: REAL DRAMA!! REAL ACTION!! REAL SURPRISES!! ON OUR NEW SHOW... “ATTACK OF THE ROBOT!” Mettaton attacks! MTT: YOU SURVIVED THE GUARDS, THE CORE, THE PUZZLES, BUT NOW... YOU HAVE TO SURVIVE ME. AND THE THREAT IS AS BIG AS LAST TIME. Frisk relaxes a bit when she hears the hint Mettaton gave. Since she is the only one that knows his plan, no one else will understand what Mettaton really meant. Frisk offers to spare Mettaton. He answers in a voice that suggests seriousness, notifying Frisk that what he’s about to tell is really the truth. MTT: LISTEN, DARLING. I’VE SEEN YOU FIGHT. YOU’RE WEAK. IF YOU CONTINUE FORWARD, ASGORE WILL TAKE YOUR SOUL. AND WITH YOUR SOUL, ASGORE WILL DESTROY HUMANITY. Frisk finds that worrying. Mettaton fires off a few slow projectiles and Frisk flawlessly moves between them, MTT: BUT IF I GET YOUR SOUL, I CAN STOP ASGORE’S PLAN! Frisk and Chara: What? MTT: I CAN SAVE HUMANITY FROM DESTRUCTION! Chara: I can’t decide between thinking that he is truly meaning that, or is it just because of the potential human viewers. Frisk quietly replies. Frisk: Probably a combination of both. Mettaton expands his arms, trying to grab Frisk. She blocks his attempts with her glow stick. MTT: THEN, USING YOUR SOUL, I’LL CROSS THROUGH THE BARRIER... AND BECOME THE STAR I’VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF BEING. HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS... NO! MILLIONS OF HUMANS WILL WATCH ME! Mettaton sends a row of rockets. Frisk shoots one of them with her phone blaster and the explosion creates a domino effect, destroying the other rockets in the process. MTT: GLITZ! GLAMOUR! I’LL FINALLY HAVE IT ALL! SO WHAT IF A FEW STARS GET FORGOTTEN BECAUSE OF ME? THAT’S SHOW BUSINESS, BABY! Alphys suddenly calls. Alphys: U..uh... I can’t see what’s going on in there, but... D-d-don’t give up, okay!? Th... there’s o-one l-l-last way to beat Mettaton... It’s... um... it’s... This is a work in progress, so don’t judge it too hard... But, you know how Mettaton always faces f-f-forward? That’s because there’s a switch on his backside. So, i-if you flip the s-s-switch... he’ll be... Vulnerable. Frisk tells Mettaton that there’s a mirror behind him. He acts naive and turns around, giving Frisk the chance to flip the switch and she takes the chance. Mettaton pretends to be surprised. Suddenly, smoke machines and light projectors appear out of nowhere, hiding Mettaton. MTT: Ohhhh my. The outlines of his now tall and more human-like body are barely visible through the smoke. MTT: If you flipped my switch, that can only mean one thing. You’re desperate for the premiere of my new body. How rude... Lucky for you, I’ve been aching to show this off for a long time. So... as thanks, I’ll give you a handsome reward. I’ll make your last living moments... The smoke disappears, revealing Mettaton’s metal body. His arms are the only parts that still look the same. The chest area is additionally armored with strong shoulder plates and another layer of metal in front of his chest. Like his classic form, there’s a blue switch on the front part. The outline of the boots and the space between the arm plates is filled with blue lights, while the heart containment area is filled with purple lights. a part of his face still hasn’t been covered, revealing metal parts below the fake face mask above it. MTT: ABSOLUTELY beautiful! The whole room lights up, revealing massive screens on top of a huge stage, with an audience in front of it. There are so many monsters, that Frisk guesses that probably most of the citizens are there. She even spots Sans and Papyrus in the crowd. Sans is carefully watching Frisk, following her and Mettaton’s movement. Papyrus is simply excited to see Mettaton live and is wearing a “Mettaton’s GREATEST fan” that he made himself, by writing it with a marker on a plain T-shirt. Papyrus: SANS, LOOK! OUR FRIEND, THE HUMAN IS PERFORMING WITH METTATON. I WISH I WAS UP THERE WITH THEM. Sans: but bro, if you were up there, you would be to great for mettaton. you would just steal his show. Papyrus: YOU REALLY THINK SO? Sans: you’re a pro, bro. your style is simply too rad. Papyrus: I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO SACRIFICE MYSELF FOR THE SAKE OF THE SHOW. Sans: yeah. just sit back, relax and let me keep an eye out for the show. Some of the screens show the audience, while others are following Frisk, Mettaton and the ratings. Currently, the ratings are 3990. Mettaton EX makes his premiere! Mettaton keeps dancing. Frisk poses dramatically, raising the ratings up to four thousand. MTT: Lights! Camera! Action! Mettaton starts dancing around Frisk, making a few fake kick attacks near her. Frisk makes an effort to dodge the “attacks” as gracefully as possible. Frisk: If you keep up like this, I’m not gonna have a scratch at the end. Mettaton sends small robots and they throw small heart shaped pillows at Frisk. She easily avoids the pillows, amazing the audience. MTT: I’m the idol everyone craves! Frisk avoids more of Mettaton’s dance moves. Mettaton sends more robots and extends his arms, trying to block Frisk’s path, but she easily avoids the arms and the hearts. MTT: Oooh, it’s time for a pop quiz! I hope you brought a keyboard... This one’s an essay question! What do you love most about Mettaton? Chara: I got this. Chara summons the console and opens the keyboard. Frisk can’t decide what to type. MTT: Speechless...? Who can blame you? The ratings increase, while Mettaton saves Frisk’s “essay” for future use. MTT: Your essay really showed everyone your heart. Why don’t I show you mine? The containment glass of Mettaton’s soul opens, releasing it. The soul starts sending out lightning bolts everywhere. Frisk carefully moves in between them and hits away the hearts of approaching robots with her glow stick. MTT: Ooooh, I’m just warming up! Mettaton sends more robots, but Frisk shoots all of them with her phone blaster before they have the time to throw their pillows. MTT: How are you on the dance floor? A disco ball lowers, sending rays of light everywhere around the stage. Frisk playfully dances and moves around the light rays, avoiding them. MTT: Can you keep up the pace!? Frisk continues to dodge the lights. MTT: Lights! Camera Bombs! Mettaton extends his arms next to Frisk, trapping her in a tight space while he sends bombs. Frisk shoots the bombs and quickly moves out of the way of the bomb’s light. MTT: Things are blowing up! Mettaton uses the same attack and Frisk flawlessly gets through it, just like last time. The audience is getting more and more excited. MTT: Time for our union-regulated break! For a few seconds, Mettaton doesn’t move at all, while all the screens on the wall say “HAPPY BREAKTIME”. The screens switch back to their previous displays and Mettaton starts dancing again, but this time, faster than before. MTT: We’ve grown so distant, darling... How about another heart-to-heart? Mettaton’s soul pops out again, sending out the shock attacks, while it’s armored with a few blocks circling around it. Since he used too much energy on that attack, the magnet links on his arms have shut down and his arms dropped to the ground. Smoke starts floating up from his shoulders. MTT: A... arms? Wh... who needs arms Mettaton gracefully stomps forward with his leg. MTT: With legs like these? I’m still going to win! Mettaton sends out a few boxes forward and Frisk ducks below them before standing back up. The boxes suddenly start going back and hit her from behind, knocking her down. Frisk quickly recovers and gets ready for the next attack. MTT: Come on... Mettaton sends more bombs and Frisk avoids them. This time, she is ready, as she turns around and waits for them to come back, before dodging them again. MTT: The show... must go on! Mettaton sends a big amount of bombs and cubes in Frisk’s direction. She has a hard time avoiding them, since there are really a lot of them. Frisk decides to just hit them out of the way with her glow stick. Frisk does another pose. The audience loves the show. Chara: Frisk! Look at the ratings! We’re almost there. As Frisk checks the ratings screen, she notices that they really have almost reached the top. MTT: Dr... Drama! A... Action Mettaton sends more projectiles. It is getting really easy for Frisk to knock them away. MTT: L... Lights! C... Cameras! Enough of this! Do you really want humanity to perish!? ...or do you just believe in yourself that much? Frisk: I will get through. Mettaton sends more bombs which Frisk easily destroys. MTT: Well, darling! It’s either me or you! But I think we both already know who’s going to win. Mettaton smiles as he winks. Frisk starts to feel bad a little bit for destroying Mettaton’s body even tho he has been helping Frisk out the whole time. MTT: Witness the true power of humanity’s star! Mettaton activates his soul again and uses all of the attacks he has left. Since they are really slow, Frisk doesn’t have a problem with dodging them. After the attack, Mettaton’s legs disconnect as well and he falls to the ground. MTT: OOH, LOOK AT THESE RATINGS!!! Frisk looks at the screen and notices that the ratings are over ten thousand. MTT: THIS IS THE MOST VIEWERS I’VE EVER HAD!!! Frisk feels better now, since she knows that she helped him out in a way. MTT: WE’VE REACHED THE VIEWER CALL-IN MILESTONE! The crowd is completely quiet, listening to Mettaton’s instructions. MTT: ONE LUCKY VIEWER WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO TALK TO ME... BEFORE I LEAVE THE COMPUTERWORLD FOREVER!! LET’S SEE WHO CALLS IN FIRST! ...HI, YOU’RE ON TV! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ON THIS, OUR LAST SHOW??? The caller is silent for a few seconds. When he starts talking, Mettaton flinches from the voice. He knows exactly who the caller is. Blooky: oh.... hi... mettaton... i really liked watching your show. my life is pretty boring... but... seeing you on the screen... brought excitement to my life... vicariously. i can’t tell, but... i guess this is the last episode...? i’ll miss you... His words brake Mettaton’s heart as he remembers how he abandoned Napstablook, so long ago. Blooky: ...mettaton... oh... i didn’t mean to talk so long... oh.............. MTT: NO, WAIT! WAIT, BL... H... THEY ALREADY HUNG UP. Frisk walks up to Mettaton and puts a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. MTT: I’LL TAKE ANOTHER CALLER!!! All of the viewers start calling and saying how much they love him and his show. MTT: AH... I... I SEE... EVERYONE... THANK YOU SO MUCH. DARLING. PERHAPS... IT MIGHT BE BETTER IF I STAY HERE. FOR A WHILE. HUMANS ALREADY HAVE STARS AND IDOLS, BUT MONSTERS... THEY ONLY HAVE ME. IF I LEFT... THE COMPUTERWORLD WOULD LOSE ITS SPARK. I’D LEAVE AN ACHING VOID THAT CAN NEVER BE FILLED. SO... I THINK I’LL HAVE TO DELAY MY BIG DEBUT. BESIDES. YOU’VE PROVEN TO BE VERY STRONG. PERHAPS... EVEN STRONG ENOUGH TO GET PAST ASGORE. I’M SURE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO PROTECT HUMANITY. HA, HA... IT’S ALL FOR THE BEST, ANYWAY. THE TRUTH IS, THIS FORM’S ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS... INEFFICIENT. IN A FEW MOMENTS, I’LL RUN OUT OF BATTERY POWER, AND... WELL... I’LL BE ALRIGHT. Frisk tightly hugs Mettaton and whispers quietly. Frisk: Thank you... For everything. MTT: KNOCK ‘EM DEAD, DARLING. AND EVERYONE... THANK YOU. YOU’VE BEEN A GREAT AUDIENCE! Mettaton shuts down. Alphys runs in on the stage, while the other mosnters start exiting from the room. Alphys: I... I managed to open the lock! Are you two... Alphys notices the disassembled Mettaton. Alphys: Oh my god. Mettaton! Mettaton, are you... thank GOD, it’s just the batteries. Mettaton, if you were gone, I would have... I would have... I m-mean, h-hey, it’s n-no problem, you know? He’s just a robot, if you messed it up, I c-could always... J-just build another.... Why don’t you go on ahead? Frisk passes Mettaton and Alphys. She looks back one more time and sees Alphys working on reassembling Mettaton’s arms and legs. Frisk glares at Alphys. Frisk: He’s much more than just a robot. He’s a friend. Prologue Chapter 15

Reacting to Justice League
You Never Come Back Right
This official concept art first appeared here
Two Guest Reactors join Kris to talk about DC’s indisputably awkward but intermittently promising attempt to out-Marvel Marvel: Andrew, whom some of you may know from our Baby Driver reaction, and another of our film school buddies, Zack Snyder loyalist Justin.
KRIS: Unfortunately this is just a text post and we haven’t graduated to multimedia presentations, so we can’t properly reproduce JL’s cameraphone video opening, but let me ask you guys: What’s the best thing about Earth?
ANDREW: *Thinks for a minute*
It's-
JUSTIN: The best thing about Earth...
ANDREW: And my phone dies.
Did we ever get an answer??
I don't remember.
KRIS: Someone asked Henry Cavill about this in an interview and he said something about Superman believing in humankind’s capacity to be good even when everything is awful
But I’m 99.9% sure the real answer is Lois Lane
Which, fair
ANDREW: If you asked Batman, he would say Superman is the best thing about earth.
JUSTIN: LOL, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, I’ll agree
If actually answering for myself, I’d say the best thing is the uncertainty.
ANDREW: Of Life?
Of death?
Of coming back to life from death?
JUSTIN: Of life.
ANDREW: Spoiler?
JUSTIN: No no. You never come back right.
KRIS: I feel like if Whedon had made JL from the ground up there might have been a more coherent thread for that, but as it is I think the best parts of this were Snyder
Which I probably would not have said if you’d asked me a year ago
JUSTIN: I couldn’t agree more.
KRIS: I mean I’m glad that we’re probably not going to get the version of the story that they had in mind when they made the “Knightmare” sequence in BvS, because it felt like they were going to do an Injustice thing and kill off Lois
ANDREW: I'm actually not sure whose version I would prefer. But it is very obvious who did what scenes, and there is a bit of whiplash.
Why do you guys say Snyder?
JUSTIN: Well I’m a Snyder fan in general but if Whedon was on board from that start we’d have a good but much different film.
ANDREW: Out of curiosity.
We would have had Avengers 3z
KRIS: I think part of the reason Whedon’s stuff felt half-assed to me wasn’t really anyone’s fault, it was just the horrible luck and the tight timeline
But there’s also stuff like the sight gag of Barry falling into Diana’s cleavage, which a lot of critics have already called out as a repeated joke from Age of Ultron
JUSTIN: Exactly. This film release should have been delayed.
KRIS: It did sound like Snyder’s original version was going to be eight hours long with way too many supporting characters
ANDREW: Directors cut.
JUSTIN: Yeah those moments just had such a different tone from what we knew.
ANDREW: Oh, I forgot about that gag... sigh...
KRIS: Yeah, tonal consistency is a big part of it for me too
JUSTIN: I was wondering the same thing. The things I hear that were cut sounds like a lot of pages
Well the first act is just so rough for me, so rushed. But I’ll be the first to acknowledge BvS has the slowest, longest first act.
KRIS: I think I’m in between you guys in terms of how much I like Snyder’s DC movies, but I was invested enough in them, and especially in the characterization of Superman, that the course corrections in JL in terms of “more fun” and “less brooding” just feel too big
JUSTIN: Snyder’s cut sounds like a two parter.
ANDREW: But Kris, it's okay. Cause he was revived as a different character.
KRIS: I was honestly glad they abandoned the original plan for a two-part Justice League, but the ways in which the studio has reacted to both critical and audience feedback have been kind of nuts
JUSTIN: Yeah it’s more of 90 degree turn and needed maybe 45, if that makes sense.
ANDREW: I concur Justin.
KRIS: Like the Suicide Squad recut by the folks who made that really well received trailer
I think if Bruce hadn’t felt like such a totally different dude, Superman feeling pretty different might have landed better
What I did really like in Cavill’s performance was that even as an oddly happy dude, his Superman is still pretty restrained and quiet
ANDREW: There problem is that they're too reactive to what everyone says, instead of going with a vision anymore.
D.C. I mean.
KRIS: For sure
JUSTIN: My issue with Bruce was his sudden brotherhood with Supes and really odd when he mentions Clark. He didn’t know Clark Kent!
ANDREW: He looked it up.
With the... bat... Wikipedia
JUSTIN: Found him on Facebook.
KRIS: Even Diana suddenly knowing a bunch about Krypton felt a little weird
ANDREW: Yeah!!
KRIS: I do wonder why if Bruce felt so bad he didn’t reach out to Martha and/or Lois sooner
JUSTIN: Kal-El
ANDREW: I wonder why the first thing he thinks of when getting the magic box is team
JUSTIN: Martha lost her house! How did Bruce not go in and clear all her debts after he paid for the funeral?!
ANDREW: Reanimate the dead*
Thanks autocorrect
JUSTIN: Do you think the black suit was used and then cut?
KRIS: What’s kind of funny is that Bruce has (probably accidentally) been established at someone who doesn’t pay much attention to his finances -- no one ever realized those checks to the Scoot McNairy character in BvS were “returned”
ANDREW: Black suit?
KRIS: For Superman
It wouldn’t surprise me
It feels like a Snyder-y aesthetic choice
JUSTIN: True, he’s a one track mind
ANDREW: I wouldn't pay attention to my finances either if I were him.
JUSTIN: Cavill teases it too
KRIS: I did have to appreciate the “I bought the bank” line
JUSTIN: Yeah. And that was Snyder
KRIS: Which weirdly reminded me of Ken Watanabe buying the airline in Inception
ANDREW: It's a reflex!!
KRIS: I don’t know how much of it is deliberate but I kind of dug Bruce’s consistency in continuing to say things like “If there’s even a fraction of a possibility...”
JUSTIN: I surprisingly wasn’t bothered too much by how he was brought back.
KRIS: The idea and the process I thought were pretty cool
It didn’t actually feel like a big enough moment when Bruce presented that idea
I don’t know if that’s because it needed more setup, or it was just kind of boringly shot, or what
JUSTIN: I could see that. I really enjoyed the moments of friction in the group
ANDREW: It wasn't really how he was brought back. It was more of it coming up out of nowhere.
JUSTIN: Flash finishing Bruce’s thought was kinda like, “where did that idea come from?”
ANDREW: In think I did a literal double take on the theatre.
JUSTIN: For me I mean, I wondered
KRIS: They maybe needed to let Bruce, if not everyone, see the Mother Boxes in action
JUSTIN: That would have helped.
ANDREW: That probably would have worked.
Something!
Anything that could lead this train of thought.
KRIS: They also hadn’t really established this Bruce as the polymath genius of some other incarnations
ANDREW: Not really, no. He's not dumb, but he's not a super genius.
JUSTIN: Yeah. He comes across as a brute
ANDREW: And tired of everything
KRIS: And I missed that -- maybe not how INTENSE AND ANGRY he was in BvS, but actually showing us a late 40s/early 50s Batman
ANDREW: Grisly! Has arthritis
I would dig it
KRIS: There’s some lip service dialogue about it, but Bruce being tired and worn out could have also fed into the arc of building a team and a legacy
JUSTIN: That’s what I liked in DKR.
ANDREW: Awww that's so good, Kris!
Especially if Robin is dead in this universe, which he is... right?
JUSTIN: And just preparing for the future
KRIS: Yeah, we see Robin’s armor in BvS briefly
JUSTIN: Well Nightwing is out there
KRIS: With the Joker’s graffiti
Caroline Siede, the culture critic, tweeted that with actually pretty light editing, the first act could have set this up as a Diana POV movie instead of a Bruce POV movie, which would have both been an actually appropriate response to outside feedback and also made more sense for the characters
JUSTIN: Jason Todd’s Robin?
KRIS: I assume Jason, yeah
ANDREW: Ahhh yes. Oh, so nightwing is out there. Probably?
KRIS: It’s around the time Bruce gets the invitation to the Friends of the Metropolis Library event
ANDREW: Ooooh Diana pov.
That would be sick.
Hey remember that brief fight scene where she blocked all the bullets!
That was one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
JUSTIN: Well Jessica pointed out Bruce should have asked Diana to talk to [Arthur Curry] since they’re both, you know, special.
KRIS: I’ll link to it properly in the post, but Caroline’s proposed edit was to start with the present-day Amazon sequence, then go to Diana[’s action scene then to] the museum seeing the beacon, then have her go to Bruce
Oh man, yeah
ANDREW: Sounds more straight forward to me, actually.
KRIS: Right?
JUSTIN: Ooh I like that.
KRIS: And that Amazon sequence had some really cool stuff in it, action-wise
ANDREW: I was actually really nervous, cause I was afraid they were all gonna die.
JUSTIN: I was just typing that. One of the best action. Just shows off how well they work together.
KRIS: The CGI for Steppenwolf was surprisingly awful, and the newly hypersexualized costume designs were pretty annoying, but the whole keep-away tactic for the box was great
ANDREW: Yeah... Magic Carpet Ride looked really really bad.
Like really bad
Like awful
KRIS: It was at the point where they should’ve just given him a full face helmet
JUSTIN: Not to start comparisons to Avengers but I like when the opposition is more intellectual in Loki than physical, like Steppenwolf
ANDREW: Is it sad if I keep wanting to make music jokes with Steppenwolf?
It's the name!
JUSTIN: It’s only natural
KRIS: You should give him a new name every time you mention him
ANDREW: On it!!!
JUSTIN: I think his mother’s name is also Martha
KRIS: WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME
ANDREW: That's how they should have stopped him.
KRIS: Oh there was this one Bruce-Barry character beat that I was really surprised they never actually concluded
JUSTIN: That brings up one of my Snyder complaints. He’s great visually but I don’t know that he directs the actor’s performance
ANDREW: That's not his strongest suit.
What's the beat, Kris?
KRIS: Yeah, Miri and I have talked about that -- he has pretty terrific casting instincts, but either he’s really hands off with the directing or just kind of bad with actors
It was the “Save one” thing in the sewer
JUSTIN: Yeah except for Lex I love his casting choices
KRIS: When Bruce gave him the pep talk I was totally invested in whatever mini-arc that was going to be
And Barry has like two seconds where he seems to realize whatever Bruce meant when he said “Then you’ll know”, but there’s not a third scene where Barry and Bruce talk about it again
JUSTIN: Oh yeah, I can see that. It was a great little speech.
ANDREW: I... forgot... all about that.
KRIS: I loved it because they didn’t do the first-choice thing of having Bruce just get annoyed and tell Barry to Man Up or whatever, and it was such a great Elder Statesman thing, and even on-brand for the animated Batman
JUSTIN: A line with Bruce joking, “you caught on fast.”
KRIS: But they didn’t pay it off
ANDREW: Dang it!!
KRIS: I wonder if it was a cut Snyder scene, or an unfinished Whedon rewrite
It feels more Whedon-y but I could see it being either
JUSTIN: We probably won’t find out for another 5 years.
ANDREW: I could see it being either too.
Speaking of whedon-y, my favorite part was the moment after they resurrected superman.
KRIS: That big Flash moment with the slow motion and the sword was pretty great and almost definitely all Snyder
JUSTIN: Oh god that was awesome!
KRIS: Not quite as amazing as “Time in a Bottle” in Days of Future Past, but way cooler than anything Whedon did with Quicksilver
ANDREW: I also liked when the flash and superman fought, and Flash realized that he could see him
Yeah, he did like nothing with quicksilver!
KRIS: YES. I tend to think Barry should be definitively faster than Superman (if not necessarily WAY faster), but the eye contact in that post-resurrection fight was great
Ezra Miller was really great in general
ANDREW: Ezra Miller was fantastic.
JUSTIN: It was great with Barry still being able to dodge him but his shock on how fast Supes was.
The characters and interaction are what really made this movie enjoyable for me.
ANDREW: Same, actually.
KRIS: I think individually most of the performances were a lot of fun, although as a team the cast doesn’t yet have the same chemistry as the MCU Avengers
Cyborg seems to have been a victim of the rewrites
ANDREW: And exposition
KRIS: I don’t know if we saw enough to even judge whether Ray Stone is a good actor
ANDREW: Not really.
JUSTIN: And that’s a product of not having individual films leading up to this.
KRIS: Right
Does either of you guys know much about Aquaman?
ANDREW: I'm in the same page with Aquaman. I think he did well, but I don't he had enough to do? Or say?
I don't know much about him from the comics.
JUSTIN: Not a ton. And now I really want to read some more.
KRIS: For me Aquaman definitely felt like everyone just sort of dusted their hands off after casting Momoa, like “Our work here is done”
ANDREW: Pretty much.
JUSTIN: I think his performance definitely drew my interest for the movie next year.
ANDREW: But sadly, it wasn't enough
At least for me
KRIS: I feel like this Aquaman is just as different from comics Aquaman as Snyder/Cavill’s Superman is different from more classical versions, so it kind of annoys me that the general consensus seems to be loving one and hating the other
I mean I get that part of it is about tone and theme and not just about fidelity to the comics, but still
And I did like Arthur a lot
JUSTIN: I read some comments from Momoa about how he and Zack worked on this outsider on land and sea who is just a loner. That annoys me knowing there was more to his story.
ANDREW: I think people just really like him from Game of Thrones, and they aren't thinking about tone or theme.
Ya! Khal Drogo is playing the character that people make fun of!
Etc
JUSTIN: I haven’t seen GOT so I only know him a few other things.
KRIS: He was Conan in that 2011 remake that was not great, although he was good in it
JUSTIN: But I appreciated his enthusiasm for the character
KRIS: And I LOVE the casting choice of a Pacific Islander
ANDREW: Me too!!
JUSTIN: Oh yeah, I get that and The Rock’s Hercules confused.
KRIS: Hahahaha
Not unfair
JUSTIN: Both roles Arnold played back in the day.
KRIS: A few years after that movie he was pretty candid in a spotlight thing at C2E2 in Chicago, about most of the top leadership on Conan just not really knowing what they were doing
That’s another character he actually seems to know really well and care about, so it was a bummer
I do have high hopes for Aquaman
JUSTIN: Just trying to cash in on the IP
KRIS: Though I wonder what the financial situation is at Warner now, in terms of going beyond Aquaman and the Wonder Woman sequel
ANDREW: I do too. I want it to be good.
JUSTIN: And with James Wan directing
ANDREW: Oh yeah; JL didn't do as well as they wanted, right?
JUSTIN: Did the air bubble bother you guys?
KRIS: The air bubble surprised me but I didn’t hate it
JL didn’t break 100 mil domestically for opening weekend
JUSTIN: Me either. Wan said his movie wouldn’t have bubble conversations
ANDREW: Why do they need that though? They live under water!!
Is that bad for them? Box office wise?
JUSTIN: I like to think that’s how they have a private conversation
KRIS: Everyone seems to think it was pretty bad, yeah, although I think it had a decently strong Chinese opening
ANDREW: They can whisper! Under water!
JUSTIN: Yeah Box office was projected at 110-120
ANDREW: Ouchie
KRIS: Budget was supposedly 300 mil before adding marketing costs
ANDREW: Oh my god!
JUSTIN: Yeah international will be the thing that saves it
ANDREW: Including re shoots?
KRIS: I assume/hope so
ANDREW: Oooooh boy
Reboot
JUSTIN: I think reshoots brought it to 300 mil. Marketing 150-200 million
KRIS: It’s wild, considering how mediocre most of the VFX were
ANDREW: Yeah man! Born to be wild looked awful!
KRIS: Another thing Snyder does really well, or at least did before BvS, is the sheer scale of superhuman action sequences, and you really miss that in the Superman scenes
(He had a different DP on BvS than on MoS)
ANDREW: I know we talked about it. I just wanted to make another joke.
JUSTIN: And a different one for JL too right?
KRIS: Yeah
Looks like a lot of TV credits, including some major GoT episodes
JUSTIN: MOS is still my number one.
KRIS: Same
JUSTIN: Yeah
KRIS: I mean Wonder Woman is objectively better crafted, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much I still like MoS on rewatches
ANDREW: Yeah, but in the supermen scenes he just... dominates. In fact, you didn't really need anyone else in the climax. He saves people faster than Flash. He easily subdues Who Needs Ya, more than Wonder Woman or Aquaman. And he helps cycborg with the unboxing.
It makes me mad...
KRIS: The thing with the Russian family was I guess a Whedon add-in, which makes sense, and I did like the punchline of Superman carrying an entire apartment building
ANDREW: I liked the punchline, but it undermines everything about them working together
KRIS: Yeah, it’s interesting and frustrating at the same time -- there’s a way they could have actually played Superman DRASTICALLY altering the balance of power as this huge, amazing thing
But they ended up in this awkward middle space
JUSTIN: I feel you Andrew. It’s like, “we need Superman back so the rest of us can go back to our regular lives.”
KRIS: On paper Superman changes everything but it’s not directed in such a way that you really feel it
ANDREW: Well, he does change everything. Everyone else can go home.
KRIS: I don’t for a second believe this will happen, but I think what would make the most sense is for Diana to remain the leader of the team and Clark to be basically the Thor-esque muscle
I did like Bruce explicitly acknowledging that he wasn’t cut out for leadership, but it also draws attention to the point that the movie would make more sense from Diana’s POV as she takes up the responsibility
A detail that I’m irrationally annoyed about in the climax is the use of Superman’s freezing breath
Which I’ve always thought is kind of a dumb power, but they also hadn’t established it in MoS
ANDREW: What you're saying is, it should be Wonder Woman 2: Wonder Woman and Friends. Which I support.
He had some winter fresh gum in his pocket.
It's in a deleted scene.
JUSTIN: Wonder Woman should be the leader, at least for now. I like that in MOS he doesn’t know to take his fight out of a huge city and Batman knows that in BvS. And now they both can guide Clark to be better at what he does.
KRIS: Something that wasn’t set up well in the previous movies is Bruce’s idea of Superman as a beacon of hope
ANDREW: Yes! That was... odd.
KRIS: You can sort of connect the dots from the world’s uncertainty about Superman to feeling bad after he dies, but JL doesn’t do the work for you
JUSTIN: Yes!!! The whole hope thing bothered me from the first trailers
KRIS: I do kind of like the idea of Bruce being guilty
ANDREW: But there is a line between grief and total admiration.
KRIS: Right
It’s also weird that Bruce understands that Diana is an inspiration
It’s not like Steve Trevor had a journal we know about
To be fair there’s no way that was going to feel anything other than transparently reshoot-y
JUSTIN: I feel like it would have been better if Bruce had said that after Superman’s death he’d become a sign of hope, or something
ANDREW: Why is batman putting these things on other people? He can be a symbol of hope!
He can be the hero we deserve! And need!
JUSTIN: He’s a symbol to fear
KRIS: I would have bought and maybe even preferred a more personal angle that emphasized Bruce trying to fix his mistakes, which is sort of hinted at
ANDREW: Like Stark post- age of Ultron?
KRIS: I guess, yeah
ANDREW: But hopefully not as catastrophic.
Or civil war-y
KRIS: Bruce as Tony, Diana as Steve, Clark as Thor -- it’s a little too convenient but it’s all there and it would work!
Bruce wallowing in his guilt might have also been an interesting counterpoint to Diana (and I guess to some extent Arthur) taking on the big-picture concerns
JUSTIN: If this were from Diana’s POV definitely
KRIS: I think ultimately the idea to get Bruce on a healthier track of mind was right but it could have used an actual arc
ANDREW: Right.
Through friendship
And justice
JUSTIN: Of course
KRIS: Oh my god, Clark having the title-drop line was so corny
ANDREW: Title drops are my biggest pet peeves in films and shows.
No lie
KRIS: “I’m also a fan of justice” doesn’t even make sense in that context
ANDREW: Or for him to say in context!
JUSTIN: Makes no sense except if kind of fit in with some other cheesy dialogue. You just knew it was coming.
KRIS: So much Whedon dialogue
“Yeah, something’s definitely bleeding”
JUSTIN: I did get a chuckle out of Arthur sitting on the lasso
KRIS: “I know you didn’t bring me back because you like me.” “I don’t... not.”
ANDREW: That was also very out of character.
He had to be sitting on the lasso for any of that to make sense.
And he hit on Diana, which was weird.
JUSTIN: Yup
KRIS: I did like the lasso gag (which had an actual setup! when Diana helpfully explains it in the bank scene), although I also was not of fan of the hitting on Diana
JUSTIN: I do like Supes asking Batman if he bleeds.
KRIS: Even if it wasn’t creepy it’s just such a too-easy joke to go for
And I did love Gadot’s delivery of “Well I thought that was beautiful.”
JUSTIN: She makes it work.
ANDREW: Cause Gadot is awesome
KRIS: Let’s talk a little about Lois
ANDREW: Sure?
KRIS: She’s very... un-Lois in this
Explicitly, which is interesting
JUSTIN: The scene at the planet was odd.
KRIS: So odd
ANDREW: Soooo odd
KRIS: “You’re the thirstiest young woman he’d ever met”
ANDREW: Oh god! I forgot about that joke.
JUSTIN: I wasn’t sure why I was supposed to be laughing
KRIS: Amy Adams can do no wrong and she sold the reaction shot about as well as she could but geez
So, I think it would have been more in character for Lois to grieve, or more accurately sidestep grieving, by throwing herself into her work
But for the sake of argument, is there something to the idea that even a Lois Lane should be able to just sit with her grief for awhile?
JUSTIN: Sidestep grieving with Work and that’s why she hasn’t been in touch with Martha
KRIS: God, yeah
I feel like there’s an abstract idea about #feminism, and in general the idea that a person can be more than one thing, that the movie gestures toward there, but like so much about this it’s never actually developed
Lois Lane as Grieving Sort-of-Wife would also obviously play better if the gender ratio in the cast was different
JUSTIN: I feel that Amy Adams portrayal of Lois has had strong feminine presence.
*always has a strong feminine presence
KRIS: She’s a strong presence by virtue of being Amy Adams, and her characterization in MoS is mostly pretty good, but here the character suffers for having to just be a stereotypically feminine archetype
JUSTIN: The ratio does lead well into the comment Diana makes about working with children.
True.
KRIS: I mean in a literal sense Diana would still be working with children if there were more women
ANDREW: Her presence is negated by lack of screen time as well. Though I don't know if it would have helped shake the archetype she was stuck in.
JUSTIN: Yeah but I guess I’m just referring to her as mother figure.
ANDREW: Amy Adams, I mean.
JUSTIN: I agree. She is one of my favorites in BvS and in this we just don’t get enough.
KRIS: The specific nature of Lois’s relationship with Clark has been a little bit of a problem for the universe of these movies from the beginning, actually
I mean to be clear, I love her in Man of Steel
And I even kind of like the idea that she’s the first person outside the Kent family to show Clark the best of humanity
ANDREW: But then she's only there to show that to Clark.
KRIS: I think where it becomes a problem is the second half or so of BvS, with the “You are my world” thing
I do think Lois has a fair amount of agency in MoS, in addition to being a lens to the wider world for Clark
JUSTIN: I wasn’t a big fan of them already living together in BvS. I wanted to see them develop in a sequel
KRIS: The problem is that we never see Clark develop a relationship with other people, or with humanity in general
So if nothing else the idea that only Lois can pull him back from the brink post-resurrection is consistent, but this is where the “What’s the best thing about Earth?” thing doesn’t work -- it’s just Lois, again
JUSTIN: That’s a good point.
ANDREW: You just brought this full circle.
You son of a bitch!
JUSTIN: Haha
KRIS: I have my moments
The other thing that will annoy me about the Lois and Kansas scenes until I die is that they don’t use the “This Is Clark Kent” music
youtube
JUSTIN: And that’s why he runs the show.
KRIS: I get, on a really abstract nostalgic level, why Danny Elfman would want to bring back John Williams’s Superman theme
(and his own Batman theme)
ANDREW: I liked that touch. It was nice, albeit distracting.
JUSTIN: I found the score brought me out of the moment sometimes. The bank robbery scene was one.
KRIS: Me too
JUSTIN: I liked John Williams’s when Clark first came back
youtube
KRIS: It was a weird score -- when it wasn’t distracting because of those callbacks, it was mostly forgettable
I also don’t like Wonder Woman’s electric cello theme, which seems to be a minority opinion on the internet
JUSTIN: But to be honest Danny Elfman’s comments about his score for Batman being the only one annoyed me.
KRIS: I loved Zimmer’s MoS soundtrack, and the parts of the BvS soundtrack that use his Superman themes, and I really wish more of those had been brought back
Oh I didn’t even see those. Will Google.
ANDREW: I don't like the cello thing either for Wonder Woman. I never did.
Kris! I'm glad you said that.
KRIS: Lois’s VO at the end is kind of lame and nonsensical, but the TV writer/producer Kevin Biegel tweeted that the “What Are You Going to Do When You’re Not Saving the World?” cue from the end of MoS would have been a great fit for that ending montage, thematically
JUSTIN: Oh I have to disagree. I loved WW’s theme from the start
youtube
ANDREW: Ooooh yeah... there was lame voice over.
KRIS: I think I’d like it better if its first appearance in BvS wasn’t SUPER weird -- it just blares out of nowhere when he finds the World War I photo
ANDREW: Fuck
JUSTIN: It does just come out suddenly.
KRIS: I also really love the orchestral music in Wonder Woman
JUSTIN: Yes, it fit the feel of the movie.
KRIS: It’s a little less memorable, melodically, than some other superhero scores but it’s so well composed for the images it accompanies
ANDREW: The score I Wonder Woman i like. Her theme, not so much. Your right, it does kind come on at the loudest volume.
KRIS: Man I just really love that little piano theme for Clark Kent and it seems like such an obvious thing to do in the Kansas scenes
It must have been there before Elfman replaced Junkie XL, whom I admittedly wish I didn’t have to refer to as Junkie XL
JUSTIN: Isn’t it in the last trailer?
Haha
KRIS: Side note: I love the less-than-a-minute-long “Four or Five Moments” cue he did for the Deadpool soundtrack
(I think the reason undercutting Colossus’s traditional hero speech works so well is that it’s actually a pretty good hero speech)
Any other lingering annoyances or unmentioned high points?
JUSTIN: That opening Batman scene, with the robber
KRIS: Holt McCallany!
ANDREW: Not that I haven't mentioned... I think.
JUSTIN: I like him but the whole thing was too on the nose.
KRIS: “FEAR”
ANDREW: FEAR
KRIS: It’s a weirdly unnecessary scene
JUSTIN: “It’s because he’s gone isn’t it?”
KRIS: Especially now that we can’t shake the Diana POV idea
THANKS A LOT CAROLINE
It was fun to see a Green Lantern
Although I also appreciated the “isn’t this just the Lord of the Rings prologue?” jokes that went around
ANDREW: You think they would make Superman a black lantern?
K: I first misread this as Andrew asking if DC/Warner would go for a black Green Lantern, i.e. John Stewart
KRIS: I think Geoff Johns is personally too much a fan of Hal Jordan
for them to do that, I mean, not just in an abstract sense; it’s fine to love Hal Jordan
ANDREW: Awwww but then they could do a blackest night thing.
KRIS: I vaguely remember an announcement that the GL movie would be a Corps movie rather than a solo thing but who knows now, if the financial hit is too big
ANDREW: Who knows!
KRIS: Ohhh sorry I just misread that
ANDREW: Just don't do cgi suits!
Oh god!
JUSTIN: I believe I keep hearing Lethal Weapon in space with John Stewart
ANDREW: Oh my god do it!
Now
KRIS: That would be great
JUSTIN: Get Shane Black to write it
KRIS: I’m fine with flying in Shane Black to fix any superhero franchises
JUSTIN: Well it depends on how you feel about IronMan 3
ANDREW: I'm on board.
I like iron man 3!
KRIS: I LOVE Iron Man 3
JUSTIN: Me too.
KRIS: I guess to end this, just for fun do you guys have quick pitches for what you would have done post-MoS if you were in charge of the DC movies?
ANDREW: Booster gold and blue beetle buddy cop movie.
KRIS: I would’ve made the Man of Steel sequel promised by that great ending at the Daily Planet, partly because I want more of Lois and Perry arguing with each other
I also would’ve just not immediately introduced a new Batman
ANDREW: Same.
Or perhaps... Nightwing.
Instead of Batman?
Or GASP
A Batman... Beyond.
KRIS: Now that you mention it I’m kind of surprised they haven’t revisited Batman Beyond in any of the animated movies
JUSTIN: MOS sequel and WW.
KRIS: I have to admit that I’ve never really liked Lex Luthor
So I’m not sure who my MoS 2 villain would be
JUSTIN: Eisenberg as Lex?
ANDREW: I don't think it has big enough of a fan base to be honest. Batman Beyond; I mean.
KRIS: Lex in general
I also would’ve been fine with never introducing kryptonite
ANDREW: How so?
JUSTIN: I once wrote a Superman origin and used Metallo
I actually like how they introduced kryptonite.
KRIS: I guess I’ve rarely felt that kryptonite outgrew its origins as a convenient way to depower Superman (I believe in the old radio plays?)
If they had to intro kryptonite I did like how they did it
ANDREW: I also like the song.
Oh my god! He went crazy... and they still called him superman!
KRIS: MALOY
ANDREW: Damn it!
KRIS: That might be hard to beat as an exit line
JUSTIN: No no no stop it right there Andrew

"Greetings. I am called Kris. I am a knight in service to His Majesty, King Marth. My loyalty is to my liege, but should you have need of me, I will gladly lend you my sword."
Ah, I never draw this one. This is my New Mystery avatar, Dame Kristabel (Kris for short). I decided to try and give her a slightly fancier outfit in the style of Heroes. She's actually a swordmaster, despite the armor and pants. Why would she wear them when that class doesn't in fe12? Because, while swordmaster may be her class, her profession is member of the royal guard, and she actually needs some protection if she's gonna be going up against assassins (though less than a proper knight, as her speed and agility are her gteatest assets). As for the pants, Kris would have a stroke if she ever wore anything that showed a bare leg. She's terrified of her sexuality, which stems from growing up in an ultra conservative home with her verbaly abusive zealot of a grandfather. She was raised as a boy until she got her first period, and even then, didn't know what that was until she was about sixteen. It might seem odd that a girl who barely realizes she's a girl would wear pink, but the notion of pink being "girly" is actually very recent. It was originally considered a masculine color, with blue being attributed to feminity.
Being a knight is literally the only thing Kris has to live for. She had longer hair when she first joined as a new recruit, but when Jagen made a passing remark about long hair being a hazard on the battlefield, she cut it off (like, right in front of everyone the second he said it, which royally unnerved him). She's infatuated with Frey (though it took a long time and a lot of explanations from friends for her to understand what she was feeling), but he shot her down completely, reminding her that as a knight, the only man she needs to be thinking about is Marth (Frey has some... issues... in my head canon). The thought of losing his respect terrified her, so she redoubled her efforts to be the most exemplary of knights, going so far as to work herself to collapse. Marth thinks she has feelings for him (which makes him happy, because he has feelings for her), but really, she just stares at him because he has the same hair color as Frey. Usually while lamenting how not handsome Marth is and wishing he would grow a beard.
She weilds a forged lady sword called Bradamante (in Heroes, it would have a built in Swift Sparrow, but not be inheritable). She can support Marth, Frey, Cain, Katarina, Cecil, Luke, Roderick, Ryan, Samson and Sheema. She is supported by the 9th platoon members. I need to draw more of her. She's fun in her simplicity.

Jafax 2017 Rundown
Well, time for my usual Con rundown! As usual everything is below the cut.
We spent the whole weekend there (Fri-Sun), which was a much better experience than last year when we only stayed one night. We stayed pretty busy on Friday with Dealer’s Room and Panels. We bought most of our merch on Fri since we were after figures more than anything. We unfortunately didn’t find the two figures we wanted. But, we did find two figures that I wanted along with two figures of characters we rarely see. Along with this we were extremely happy to see wlop in the artist alley and we picked up the two newest Fate prints they had along with a sweet Princess Mononoke canvas. Other than those main things we bought some buttons and on sat we got some snacks.
For our panels, Kris and I ended up finding panels to back to back all night. I went to the EVA foam panel by Karmada Cosplay and learned a few new tricks for when I start my foray into making armor. Then we went to the asian beauty panel. I was there to accompany her, but she did wish she wasn’t in cosplay so she could participate. We’ve learned our lesson for if there is a next time. Let’s see... We then went to the Masquerade tips panel (also by Karmada) so that I could get a bit of info for when I get everything around for masq at Youma. Of course I knew a few things that they talked about, since I was in a group skit before, but I mostly needed insight into the cosplay judging portion. I definitely feel more prepared than before. And then to pass time between that and the Spooky panel we went to the ‘How to adult when you’re weaboo trash’. That panel was nothing what we thought it would be and we definitely had a blast! I got the pleasure of being roasted for my and my roommate’s figure collection. But to be fair, I didn’t think I’d be the only one to raise my hand... Got a boat load of candy for it though. XD (if they’re at Youma I’m definitely not missing it.) After that Fun as fuck panel we went to the Spooky 18+ panel, and didn’t stay long. We thought it was gonna be something much different. It wasn’t a bad panel, but it definitely felt like a first time panel that didn’t know if it wanted to be informative or interactive.
Ok, so Saturday... we spent time at the Amyway pool until about 2:30. Then me and Kris went to the lolita fashion show. It was really cool and it just reminds me how much I want to get into that scene. But alas I am a poor binch. An’ then we separated so I could go get April for the Fantastic Beasts panel (Which was also not what we expected, but I don’t see a lot of mythology panels and I love when there are some!) We walked around dealer’s for a bit after that just to check things over and get snacks. Though I was fuckin’ stoked when I found the Desert Punk complete series DVD for Dad. Then it was back to the room for food and meeting up with Kris. We chilled for a bit and then me ‘n Kris went back out to waste time before the J Michael Tatum WTF Panel. Though we did meet a pretty interesting person while we were just fuckin’ around. And for the life of me, I just can’t remember their name. (I’m so sorry!) It was nice talkin with you and getting those hugs. And then J Michael Tatum panel was fuckin’ amazing! like always. I highly recommend going if you ever get a chance, it’s definitely an unique experience every time. XD Then we got back to the room to watch half of Doctor Who before the storm knocked out the tv, and pack up a bit for the morning.
Sunday was pretty uneventful. We got checked out and went to the dealer’s so Kris could sell her unwanted manga and get her comm. before we left. I got most of my photos on Sunday. ^^” I really need to work on my picture taking habits.
I was a bit sad that I wasn’t able to hang out with our other group of friends like I wanted, but our schedules barely overlapped. Hopefully I can get some time to hang with them at Youmacon. I miss hanging out with them.
As for cosplays for the weekend, I was casual zero!Gil (Male and Female) on Fri. and Sun.(just male) Then Enkidu on Sat. (It was a nice cosplay to play attendant in. .3.”) I’m on the lookout for any pictures of me ‘n Saber. As well as any pictures that my Saber got by herself and pictures of my friend Kris who was in Corrupted Hana from ME!ME!ME!
Over all I definitely enjoyed myself. ^^ It was much better than last year, and I’d love to go back eventually.

What I like/don’t like about FE games that I’ve played (contain spoilers)
I just want an excuse to talk about my favorite series so I decided to make this post. Some of you maybe could relate to this or not, either it’s fine. I’m also open for conversation if you want to elaborate further.
Disclaimer: This is super subjective there’s no way everyone will agree with me and it’s okay. And yes I really need to play Tellius games but my laptop is not strong enough to emulate it.
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of The Holy War (FE4)
What I like: Great politics and world building. The way the map and story are connected are amazing as well. It has also has great cast (Lewyn quickly became my favorite anima mage). For some reason, it feels like I’m controlling an army while playing this game and makes the game feel big. I also have embraced the broken Holy Weapons. Oh and the auto save feature is great, I wish they would implement it to the other games.
What I don’t like: They don’t tell the player about how the game works, like arena, inheritance, pairings, and money. If a player has to check a guide to understand basic things about the game, then it has a problem. Going across the map for 10 minutes after 5 minutes battling can be boring as well.
Fire Emblem: Binding Blade (FE6)
What I like: Igrene’s supports. If you haven’t read it, do yourself a favor and read it now. Hard mode is full of suffering but those hard mode bonuses are so great and beautiful. It also has great pre-promotes, this is the game that makes me appreciate them. Zephiel’s nihilism view on the world is really interesting and it makes him one of my favorite villains. He also has a badass animation, honestly the animations in the GBA games are cool as heck.
What I don’t like: A R C A D I A. A fog of war desert chapter that has wyvern knights coming at the army and with a horse unit and a useless dark mage are forced to be deployed along with reinforcements at your tail is bad enough. But no, they had to include a sandstorm effect. I get it that it relates to the story but omg it always makes my eyes watery and uncomfortable. No other map gives more physical pain as this one. It also has ambush reinforcements but I don’t have too much of an issue on this game. RNG is… weird in this game. Roy is a dead weight until he promotes #NotMyBoy. Sophia can go to join Nino, Amelia, and Ewan.
Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (FE7)
What I like: Battle Before Dawn is super fun. Hector and Lyn are cool lords. I’m not a huge shipper but this game has most of my FE otps (Lyn/Rath, Pent/Louise, and Matthew/Leila). Also Black Fang is a cool name for an organization.
What I don’t like: Rain. Overall, this game is like Eliwood, mediocre. Both story and gameplay-wise, which is both good and bad at the same time. Rain. Considering that this is the prequel of FE7, Lyn’s addition feels weird since she’s nowhere to be found in FE6. Rain. Also Nino, I know you’ve been through a lot but thanks for making FE6 happen I guess, smh go join Sophia, Amelia, and Ewan. Rain.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (FE8)
What I like: Overall, this game has the strongest cast in the series and good villains as well and I couldn’t praise it enough. It’s super fun to see Ephraim being a gary stu and everyone embraces it. The Rausten defense map is pretty fun as well. The split campaign encourages replayability which is nice to have. Also I gotta mention Seth somewhere so they you go.
What I don’t like: The short campaign hurts, especially with an enjoyable cast. It also wouldn’t hurt to have more difficulty level, for people who wants more challenge. Amelia and Ewan can join Sophia and Nino.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (FE11)
What I like: Save spots, it’s only second to FE4’s auto saves feature imo. Caeda and Wing Spear are a blessing. I also quite like the portrait art. Good gameplay experience overall, since this is my first FE game and I got HOOKED after finishing it. Last but not least, Anna/Jake is otp. It also have a lot of difficulty levels, which I feel every FE games need.
What I don’t like: The 2.5D battle model looks weird on the DS. No supports hurts this game too. It has a huge cast and without any development for them, a lot of them are easily forgotten. The gaiden chapters requirement only makes it worse. Also hey ambush reinforcements that’s slightly more annoying that FE6’s
Fire Emblem: New Mystery of The Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~
What I like: They removed FE11’s dumb gaiden requirement, thankfully. Battling Legion, while the map is nothing special, it leaves me with a strong impression, probably because of his “Uweeheehee”. It’s quite similar to FE11 so I don’t have much to say here.
What I don’t like: The way Kris is handled as the avatar doesn’t feel right, I don’t oppose of Marth having an advisor other than Jagen but idk it’s like they both try to stroke each other’s ego. At least Kris got a monocle I guess. Oh and CAN WRYS STOP ASKING ME IF I WANT TO BE BALD??? Go hang out with Bantu or something smh. Honestly it’s been a while since I’ve played this game and I forget a lot about it. You can say it’s not too memorable.
Fire Emblem: Awakening (FE13)
What I like: Fun characters, except for a select few. There are some interesting and enjoyable supports in the game too (Gaius/Libra’s doughnut rain support always makes me laugh). It’s awesome if you’re playing to make great children with high stats and all the skills and see them break the game. Cutscenes and some maps look amazing. Great voice acting too.
What I don’t like: The story falls off a bit in the end for me. Some characters stretching out their gimmicks too much. Open wide maps with ambush reinforcements are not a great match whatsoever, much more annoying than FE11’s since Awakening has relatively smaller maps (someone please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m talking out of memory here). Lunatic is difficult in a bad way with those enemy-only skills. Some of the class skills are completely inferior compared to the others.
Fire Emblem: Fates (FE14)
What I like: Overall, I like the balancing they did with pair up, reclassing, and Lunatic mode. The added personal skill is great and gives more personality to each character while some new classes skills added aren’t completely useless. The new classes are fun to use too. The cast is pretty good as well and there are great supports as well (shoutout for Charlotte/Kaden). Birthright wins in the story department, while Conquest deserves the praise for gameplay (Chapter 10 is frustrating when played blind but afterward it’s a complete fun), and Revelations leads in having everyone on the team and doing themed run on. I did a maid/butler run and it was amazing to see a huge ass dragon was killed by a team full of well dressed maids and butlers.
What I don’t like: There are cases of missed opportunity on some of the characters here. Some outfit designs aren’t the best. It’s sad because the armored knights looks great, especially with the black and pink armor for Benni and Effie and then there’s the cavalry with thong. The excuse for children is bs. My biggest gripe with Birthright is that there are maps who would do just fine with “defeat the boss” goal but nope, it has to be “route the enemy”. It sucks to have finished killing the boss but can’t end the map because there’s still enemies at the other side of the map (Camilla’s underground chapter I’m looking at you). With Conquest, it has a weak story, even in FE standard which not high at all. Roy needs to thank Conquest!Corrin for taking the worst lord position from him. Revelation plays too much on gimmicks on the maps. The elevator map makes me want to cry out of sadness honestly. It also has balancing problems with the recruitable units. You don’t put a level 9 Dark Mage and a level 5 promoted bow user on the same map or make a unit useless on the map they join in.
