I hate having to find housing every time i move like this is so stressful and eating up all my time.
I just want to find a place i dont hate living and put down some roots for once, but everywhere i liked i had to leave bc of external bullshit (like getting deported during the pandemic lockdowns bc my visa status didnt qualify to stay) and everywhere thats supposed to be nice turns out to suck majorly (austria my beloathed)
#tldr im moving in 1 month and housing is too damn competitive in university towns#i had a dorm room secured but i didnt sign the contract bc i was waiting to hear about an actual apartment#bc im so so sick of dorms and student life im just too old for it at this point#and it seemed like it will work out and was a better option#but i havent heard back in like 3 days to my last email askimg if theyre done waiting for priority applicants and im starting to stress#bc now i cant get into the dorms like i think i missed the window#and also i have too much stuff like i need to get rid of some of it or ship it or something#but i dont have an address to ship it to do you see my problem#none of this would be as stressful if my relatives werent selfish assholes and would let me leave even a single bag of clothes with them#in their huge apartments for a few months while i figure things out#i think im gonna have to ship some stuff home home#(theyre part of the reason living in austria was hell. they are not kind people i genuinely hate their hyperindividualistic culture)

had a neat dream about working in a massive secret government science facility. basically i was one of the scrubs, whose jobs range from cleaning the bathrooms to data entry to feeding the test subjects depending on ur security clearance
the schedule was 7 days on 7 days off due to the "effects" of being onsite. during ur work week u live in an underground dorm situation on site, bunk beds, etc, & during the off week u live in a more aparment-like house in an artificial town built specifically for employees
there was a really confusing system of elevators in the building & the scrubs just sort of scuttled around doing their scrub work. i got randomly called on the intercom to do an interview to join the crew of one of the doctors working on a specific project. my scrub buddies were giving me tips & opinions & stuff & when i got to the interview room it was a huge sterile white room w my name projected on the wall & the doctor was behind glass & it was super intimidating but we ended up chatting & he was a super nice guy
two of my scrub buddies got reassigned to a new crew w a higher security clearance & the rumor was that whatever they were working on was gonna be super gross & smelly & they were super bummed out
also sometimes youd be scheduled to be tested yourself, so you would show up & the room would be flooded w 6 inches of water & thered be some different colored balls or w/e random thing & the intercom would say "begin testing" and youd have no idea what's going on
as a scrub all of ur tasks are highly specific & structured so as to not give you any hint of the whole scope of the project youre assigned to. no asking questions, no talking about ur work. there was a lot of gossip tho, but nobody wants to get in trouble bc u signed a contract & maybe u didnt read the contract v thoroughly & there are rumors about what happens to u if u breach the contract. sometimes fellow scrubs disappear & nobody knows if they just got reassigned to a higher clearence project or if they were Dissappeared
it pays p decently tho & getting every other week off is great
the lil artificial town u live in during ur off weeks is p standard. it was built specifically for the employees & their families so in addition to housing theres grocery stores & schools & bars & theaters & stuff. but it feels a little plastic sometimes when u think about it, & theres a lot of cctv, and also u cant leave. u SIGNED a CONTRACT. but theres a climbing gym & a nature preserve & adult education classes
but what i remember most was how complex the system of underground hallways & elevators were. everything was labeled w numbers & letters, like "take elevator F8 in zone ALPHA to floor D12a and follow hallway RED to conference room 11r" & "floor S57 zone PHI is a SILENT AREA"
"floors D15 through J66 are currently OFF LIMITS to those with security clearances below JAGUAR SIX. please avoid floors D15 through J66 until further notice. non-compliants are at risk for CONTAMINATION and possible BONE REJECTION"
anyway it was a fun dream a+
