Angelic Friendship

A BATIM fan fic for a contest held by @celina-melody Wanted to give my try at it. :)

Celina Angel hummed a merry tune as she walked along the streets that are adorned with the many rainbow colored light posts that reminded one of a cave filled with jewels. It was rather a good day at work since she was able to get her daily tasks as general done on time which leaves her a lot of free time this weekend. She thought of how to spend it when she heard sobs or at least what she thought was sobs around the alleyway. Both curious and saddened at the noise, she went towards it to help out this person though she had her sword in ready in case if it was a trick. After all she was compassionate but that didn't mean she was gullible.

She reached the spot then looked at the corner to find a female angel, sitting down at a sidewalk covering her eyes as she sobbed. she had a black dress with black hair which reminded Celina of someone she knows well. Carefully walking up to the female angel she sat down next to her.

"Alice?" Celina asked. The female angel looked up in surprise to see Celina then looks relieved.

"Oh....Hi Celina." Alice replied. "I didn't see you there...I'm sorry I need to be alone for a while."

"Are you sure?" Celina asked her with a concerned look. "You look pretty upset I mean extremely so. Are you sure you want to be alone?"

"Well..." Alice said in a drawn out sentence but then she sighed. "Actually no...I...I don't know what to do..."

"It's ok Alice." Celina said to her putting her hand on Alice's shoulder. "I'm your friend you can talk to me."

Alice looked at her in both relief and emotional. "Thanks....The Guardian Angel council found out about me and Bendy."

"Really?" Celina said in surprise. "How did that happen?! You were so careful about keeping a secret for a long time! What changed?"

Alice looked down again but with a more angry tone. "Someone tipped them off. I have a feeling that it's one of the demons that had a beef with Bendy and him ratting out on my friendship with Bendy was his way of hurting him. So the council stripped me f my guardian angel rank, then they made sure to not have any high end place in Heaven take me in."

Her voice then cracked with sadness as she struggle to keep on but tears again started to flow. "To add insult to injury they kicked me out of my own house as a way to make my punishment worse. I have no where else to go!"

She sobbed again making Celina hug her tightly. Celina has heard about that sect of angels and how they deal with any demon related incidents even more severe then in her own unit even if it was minor so seeing it happened to one of her best friends was heartbreaking. She knows too well what it was like to be faced with persecution by angels who weren't understanding of her history with demons in her family. As Alice stopped sobbing, Celina began to have an idea of how to help Alice.

"You know Alice" Celina said at last. "There's no law saying that you can't work or live on one of the lower levels of heaven. My level's just one step down from yours so you can always move into my place and go to my other job."

"Ot-Other job?" Alice asked in confusion.

"Yes." Celina said. "My other job is at a nightclub when I'm not spending my hours as a general. I work as a singer,dancer along with other "fancy" professions." She giggled at the last part.

"Celina I...I don't know what to say. You don't have to do that." Alice said.

"I know. It's because I want to." Celina held Alice's hands. "I can't ignore someone who needs to help especially a friend like you."

Alice looked at Celina with joy then hugs her. "Thank you so much Celina!"

Celina hugged back, Happy that Alice's now in a better frame of mind, and getting out of a horrible situation.

They soon left for Celina's house which isn't far off from the alleyway thankfully. When they've entered the house, Celina wasted no time showing giving Alice a tour of her house along with the room Alice will be sleeping in. When it was finished Celina guided Alice to her dressing room.

"If you'll be working at the club you'll need the right clothing for it." Celina went over and searched for some clothes. "Is there a specific job you'd like to take there Alice?"

"Hmmm tough choice." Alice pondered. "I guess....I'd like to show off my singing and dancing to the audience still."

"Good choice." Celina said with a smile "but you can get to do more then that for them if you want." She giggled with a coy look.

"What do you mean?" Alice asked in confusion but then she quickly figured out what she meant and blushed deep red. "Oh Celina I don't know about that."

"Listen you don't have to go that far if you don't want to!" Celina said quickly, not meaning to make Alice uncomfortable. "It's that if you wish to do more for the crowd other then singing and dancing like getting intimate with a male guest, you can."

Alice pondered for a bit, She's always been a more conservative angel despite being in fancy clubs but deep down she's always wondered what it's like to be more sultry and seductive especially with wearing sexier clothing. In the past she didn't want to show it due to her status as a guardian angel but things have changed now with her no longer being an angel meaning that she doesn't have to follow rules like that anymore. In a way it's liberating.

"Well..." Alice finally replied. "I can grow into this overtime. After all I don't follow the guardian angel rule anymore."

Celina smiled. "That's great Alice! I promise you won't regret this!: She finally found some clothes and gave it to Alice. Alice took them and went into the dressing room to change. Celina at down to wait then started to write letters to her brother and sister about the news. Celina looked up when she heard Alice coming out of the dressing room to present herself.

Alice is now wearing what seems to be a showgirl outfit that does evoke a green sleeveless leotard used for ballet. Celina noticed how it brought out how big and lovely Alice's breasts looked along with how the outfit brought out Alice's curves. Alice is also wearing fishnet tights with blue heels that made her already attractive legs even more desirable. Alice's rear end showed some blue feathers coming out from the back. On Alice's arms Celina saw that she was wearing blue elbow high gloves similar to her black ones from before. Completing the look was Alice's head piece that was both green and blute complete with a black feather at the center reminding one of the fashion women wore at parties in the 20's and early 30s. Alice blushed as she showed off her new suit.

Celina was taken aback about how amazing Alice looked in it that she rushed over and hugged her. "You're going to make everyone fall in love with you!"

"Th-Thanks Celina." Alice said as she adjusts her suit still blushing. "I won't lie I feel pretty exposed even though I know I'm not that exposed....But I like it."

Celina looked at Alice with a confidant grin. "Glad to hear it. I get the feeling that your debut at the club will be a hit."

Three days passed since Alice moved into Celina's house and started training for her debut night at the club. The night eventually came as dozens of angels in the district including her brother Ciel, and interesting enough Bendy and Boris who disguised themselves to not be discovered.

"So Celina invited you two as well?" Ciel whispered to Bendy.

"Yeah." Bendy replied. "Well Boris convinced me to do anyway."

"I figured it'd be good to help get his mind off what happened." Boris replied, looking at Bendy with sympathy. "After what happened with Alice getting the boot he needed something to get his mind off."

"I appreciate it Boris but that feeling ain't gonna leave anytime soon." Bendy grumbled. "Least seeing some hot women will distract me." He sighed.

The curtains then ruffled as Celina stepped out into the stage. She was wearing a blue waist jacket covering a white shirt with a vest and tie. She was also wearing a purple leotard underneath the shirt along with fishnet tights and purple heels. On top of her head was a big purple top hate with a blue stripe going around it. She looked quite stunning and got a lot of whistles from a lot of angels. she giggled as she took off her top hat to speak.

"I'd like to thank you all for attending this night." She said "Because I'm here to introduce a new member to this family. She's pretty well known in heaven but this is where she'll begin anew. I would announce her name but she'd like to do the honors herself."

She then placed the top hat down on the stage floor then the hat comes back up slowly on it's own to reveal someone that was inside it. First came the blue heels then the legs covered in fishnet tights followed suit. Afterwards came beautiful birthing sized hips with a curved body coming with it. The other reveals came in two beautiful breasts covered in a green leotard like outfit with slim arms covered in blue elbow high gloves . The audience looked in amazement at this transition as it led into the body being fully revealed with only the hat remaining covering the head. Finally the arms came up and pulled the hat away from the body revealing Alice Angel's head with her headdress who then gave it back to Celina. Bendy and Boris stared at the sight, mouth opened comically at the stunning sight of Alice Angel wearing such a sexy outfit. Ciel in kind was smitten at the sight of the lovely angel. Alice smiled as she heard the music begin playing then began singing.

I'm just a lonely angel Sittin here on a shelf At times it seemed If I just dreamed I'd not be my myself

Alice then swayed her hips back and forth as she began to dance to the music almost hypnotic like. She continued singing.

As she sings, she keeps on dancing in a pretty sexy manner such as bending down to reveal her cleavage mostly to Bendy who if it weren't for Boris holding him back would've leapt at the chance to be smothered in them as well as leaning on walls then slowly coming down sensually. Ciel tries to get his nose to stop bleeding but to no avail.

Celina joins in the dancing, wanting to join in the fun. all around the audience started to cheer as they grew to love the act more and more. Alice and Celina then walked off the stage and into the audience. Celina went around giving some lucky audience members some attention by sitting on their labs and caressing them. Alice meanwhile went into Bendy's direction, much to the Ink Demon's joy. Alice then sat on Bendy's lap then wrapped her arms around his neck knowing well that this is her beloved ink demon coming to see her.

And when I fall it's into your arms I never could resist all your charms you devil!

Alice then kissed Bendy's forehead which made Bendy almost faint with happiness. Alice giggled then got back up singing more.

Both Alice and Celina got back on stage as they both sing the last few verses of the famous Lonely Angel song.

Brush off my halo and try out my wings Im just your puppet When ya tug on my strings I'll be your angel And fly straight into to your heart I'll be your angel And fly straight into to your heart Sha boop de boo boop she boop bee Doo Bow!

They finish it off with them waving at the audience who cheered and clapped then with a gust of wind they flew back to the curtain. the rest of the evening consisted with other angels both men and female serving the guests refreshments and fanservice. Ciel, Bendy and Boris were still stunned about the inclusion of Alice Angel whom they thought wouldn't show that side of her. Well they were proven wrong and they had a feeling Celina helped her in that. Not that they had a problem with it not by a long shot.

When closing hours came, Celina came and led them into the dressing room where they met Alice still wearing her suit greeted them.

"So what did you think of my act boys?" Alice asked in a coy voice. "It took you all by surprise didn't it?

"Well-Uh-Yeah-Errrrrr…" Bendy stammered still blushing at the sight of Alice Angel's outfit.

"Well of course Alice! You did all sorts of things that we'd didn't think you'd try in million of years!" Boris replied "I mean yeah we all love it but still talk about coming out of your shell!"

"That's one way of putting it Boris." Alice chuckled.

Ciel looked at Celina with an amused look. "You've really managed to turn Alice's life around Celina."

"I know." Celina replied. "It took time yeah but still Alice really came to grow into this act. Best part is that since she's now a hit, the higher Angel council won't bother her much since she's out of their jurisdiction."

Alice hugs Celina. "I know I've said this many times Celina but thank you so much. You're really a good friend."

"Thanks too Alice." Celina replied with a smile. "I mean friends need to look after to each other."

Alice nodded then turns to Bendy. "I hope after what we've been through we can still be in touch. I know I'm out of a lot of clearing but still."

"You kidding me angel of course!" Bendy replied. "I wasn't gonna give up seeing you before but with all of this amazing stuff you have going I ain't gonna miss every night you do!"

"I figured you wouldn't." Alice smiled. "You may want to change your disguise up every now and then. After all wearing a trench coat and a fake mustache isn't going to fool anyone twice."

"Heh fair point." Bendy chuckled.

Boris looked happy about seeing two of his friends this happy especially with what they had to go through. He still couldn't stop feeling sorry for Bendy when he first heard about Alice being kicked out and trying to hide his anger and guilt. But now things are now going smooth from now on. a thought came to his mind all of the sudden then looked at Alice.

"There's one thing that I'm still wondering Alice." He asked her. "How the heck were you able to pull off that coming out of the hat trick you and Celina did?"

Both Alice and Celina giggled. "Oh Boris a magician can't reveal her secrets." Celina replied.

CANTLON: WOLF PACK WIN IN OT OVER SOUND TIGERS

BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - Sean Day’s rising wrist shot eluded the glove of Bridgeport Sound Tigers goalie Christopher Gibson at 2:28 of overtime giving the Hartford Wolf Pack a 4-3 win to complete their first weekend of the season on a positive note before an announced crowd of 1,751. Day took a pass from Phil Di Giuseppe and curled back off the right-wing, found an open seam and let his shot rip. The puck caught the top, left-hand corner, for the victory. “Once the guy backed off, I was able to go down the middle and that’s an easy shot in this league. I thought I was aiming top shelf,” Day said with a laugh and a sheepish grin. "It was a pretty tight shot. I thought we played the game really well and to come out with a win, was huge.” For Day, it was a game of celebration playing his first two games and was his first actual contact hockey so far. He was a red (no-contact) jersey in training camp as he recovered from the off-season surgery to his left hip. “It's even better than last year because I started off getting sent down (to Maine). I’m starting to build up my confidence, that helps, and I’m finding a role. I’m not fighting for (ice) time as many younger players do and the coaches have put a lot of trust in me and playing with more confidence because of that. Get a couple of points with these wins and a goal helps me a lot.” After a wild first period with five goals between the two teams, it was a defensive battle the rest of the way. The Sound Tigers capitalized on the only glitch for Hartford in the third period off a broken play in their own zone. Wethersfield native Colin McDonald captured the biscuit on a turnover and put the puck out front for ex-Pack captain Ryan Bourque who snapped the bouncing puck and found then back of the net for his first of the season. His enthusiasm for the goal was obvious as he pumped his fist as he likes scoring against Hartford. The goal tied the score at three. Adam Huska had two quality saves late in the second. The first came on Bourque’s right-wing shot as he got the puck with a right skate and a proper kick to the corner, but the Sound Tigers Cole Bardreau snared the rebound fired it right back. Huska made the save to keep the lead for Hartford. “We were outstanding taking the puck away, keeping the neutral zone and not allowing them to freewheel. When they did a get a chance Adam was right there to make the saves,” commented head coach Kris Knoblauch of his Slovak rookie netminder. The only other action of the period of significance was the regular season’s first fight as Tanner Fritz went after Mason Geersten after a clean hit. Geersten earned a clear decision in that scrap. The second period was a tight, defensive affair as both coaches figured five goals a period might not be the best idea and both clamped down their defense. “I like to play these games when it's close checking. They like to chip pucks in and bang bodies, and so I thought we did a good job on them. I thought we played well both nights. We have good skill, good goaltending, and we worked hard against them. Day made such a good play, it was a fun weekend,” remarked defenseman Ryan Lindgren. Lots of scoring broke out from the mid-point of the first period. At 4:20 Vinni Lettieri bagged his second goal of the campaign after receiving a pass from Steven Fogarty along the goal line and at the right side of the net. He got two whacks at the puck with the second going over the glove of Sound Tiger starting goalie Christopher Gibson. Then things got fun. The Sound Tigers tied the game at one on a penalty shot. Matt Loritio had a break-in and was harassed by Lindgren. The call was maybe a minor penalty for a slash, but a penalty shot? It seemed like a weak case for that. Lorito got the chances and got Huska down and lifted the puck past him for his second of the season at 11:41. The Wolf Pack regained the lead 2:07 later. Oliver Wahlstrom took Kieffer Bellows nifty short pass from center ice at the Wolf Pack blue line, burst down the left-wing side and sent a backhanded shot off the near post and it went in off the far post at 13:46. The Wolf Pack tied the game at two as Joey Keane scored his second goal of the young season deep in the right-wing corner and put a sharp angle shot on net that looked like Patrick Newell had deflected it, but it got past goalie Christopher Gibson at 15:30. A 16:29, Lindgren made a beautiful solo dash and got past Wahlstrom’s stick check at the blue line. Kindgren then made a good move on Sound Tigers defenseman Kyle Burroughs and went backhand to forehand and put it past Gibson to restore a 3-2 Wolf lead. “I didn’t know Lindy had it in him,“ Knoblauch said with a laugh. Lindgren earned the team heavyweight belt for that goal and another tough shot blocking man-on-man defensive play. “That was nice.“ Lindgren said, seemingly surprised at his own play. “It was nice to have that space and just took it to the net, so that felt pretty good.” The defenseman clearly have the green light to pursue offense. “We have a lot of guys who can jump up into the play and are very skilled on the backend. So you gotta find the right time to do it and that was a good time for me to jump up.” NOTES: The actual fans in the seats were no more than 300, and for a second night in a row, there was no heat on in the building. They should rename the building the icebox on Asylum Street. The announced 1,751 was the 14th worst crowd in Wolf Pack history. A very poor opening for attendance to start the season in Hartford. Wolf Pack Scratches: It comes as no surprise that Vitali Kravtsov was given the game off after being benched last night. Ville Meskanen was in for him. The other three scratches were the same as last night defenseman Jeff Taylor and Brandon Crawley and the other forward, Ryan Gropp. Sound Tiger Scratches: The team had 12 of them include Josh Ho-Sang, Steve Bernier, Ben Thomson. Erik Brown injured in the pre-season game at Trinity College against Hartford is still out with a left leg injury. Scott Eansor at age 23 retired from pro hockey earlier in the week playing his last game in the exhibition finale in at Webster Bank Arena. About 2 years ago, I was in one heck of an accident. Everyone in my car passed out, and the other car was basically fine, so police only went off their story. When I started learning to drive at 17, I decided to buy my self a cheap car so that I'd be able to get more experience behind the wheel, pass my test quicker and have a car as soon as I passed my test. I was insured on my provisional license with an insurance company which specialised in learner drivers. However, I ended up getting 3 points on my license the week before I passed my test, in what I still think were pretty unfair circumstances. My house doesn't have a drive or a garage and so I had to park my car on the road in front of my house, or on a street round the corner when there were no spaces. As it was my first car I was really excited, and without understanding that I could get in trouble for it, I used to sometimes sit in my car and listen to music with my friends. The week before I passed my test we were sat chatting when a police car came down the road and pulled up behind us. Someone had broken into some allotments nearby and they were questioning us as to if we had seen anything. They searched my car- for tools that could suggest we had done it I presume, and when they found nothing they ran my license and obviously realised I only had a provisional license. I still at this point didn't realise I had done anything wrong, I wasn't driving the car, simply sat in it so I didn't realise I had committed an offence. The police informed me that because the engine was running, I could have been driving or about to drive and on that basis they convicted me for driving without a license. I only got 3 points and a 60 fine due to the fact I wasn't actually driving and at the time I accepted that with relief, I was terrified I'd get a ban or lose my license or get a massively unaffordable fine. I could have appealed but that would have meant going to court and I was only 17 and that terrified me. I declared the points to my insurance company straght away, but due to the nature of the offence my insurance was invalidated and void. I've only just now realised how serious having insurance voided in the past is. I'm supposed to be moving a 5 hours away in a few months for a job, and I have plenty of money saved for car insurance and a car, as without a car, the move is completely unrealistic. Without a car I won't be able to get to work as the hours are unsocial and my job isn't very well connected with public transport at all and so relying on public transport or taxis is simply not an option. I found a car, went to get an insurance quote, and found out that getting insurance is practically impossible when you've had insurance voided in the past. The points don't seem to be a problem, when I tell companies about my points but not about my insurance voided in the past they happily give me a quote. They're expensive, but affordable and it's what I was expecting. However, as soon as I tell them that my insurance was voided in the past they refuse to even give me a quote. I'm completely out of options and I don't know what to do. I need a car, but I can't get insurance as much as I try. I know I was in the wrong, but it seems like the voided insurance is more of a punishment than the points are and surely that isn't right? And the voided insurance will stay with me for the rest of my life, so does that mean that driving will never be an option for me? I'm sorry for the essay, I just really don't know what to do! 2017.

I haven’t blogged in years. When you go through things, the very thing you’re passionate about becomes obsolete. For the last few years, I’ve become somewhat reclusive. My life has changed COMPLETELY from 3 years ago. With 2017 coming to an end, I needed to write--document--the year I’ve had. So here’s a snapshot of the experiences and lessons learned during my 2017.

I attempted to start the year fresh and work on my family....that lasted 3 weeks. I finally made the decision to cease my efforts for good in January 2017.

I endured verbal and mental abuse.

I learned to deal with humiliation.

My apartment flooded in March.

This was the year of the SHOW for me: 2 Chris Brown shows, Bruno Mars, Jay-Z, Vic Mensa, Jagged Edge, The Internet, OT Genesis, Future, 2Chainz, Gucci Mane, Chance the Rapper, Pastor Troy, Monica, Boosie...and a plethora of others I don’t feel like remembering. Just know I was #ConcertBae2017.

I was laid off with no valid reasoning in May, 2 days before I was supposed to close on new house. It was BS but I get it. My boss didn’t like that I questioned her business practices. As the only licensed person on her staff, I told her point blank I wasn’t risking my license to scam people out of money.

I got another job within 30 days and was fired 10 business days later - again with no explanation....again before closing on a new condo. (I was determined to be a homeowner this year lol)

Then I was hired 3 days later and with that job came respect and responsibility. My salary increased, I have staff, I am in charge of a million dollar account. It’s annoying truthfully but being a lower level employee doesn’t suit me (Obviously-I’ve been fired 3 times lol)

My cousin was murdered in August.

A month later, my friend Seth (#TeamFirkForever) passed away in his sleep.

3 weeks later my grandmother passed away in her sleep.

I experienced being handcuffed for the first time by a cop determined to find narcotics in my car. He found nothing of course - but he had done the SAME thing to me the week prior as I was passing through Ellijay. Harassment! I was with 2 black men. I don’t know if he thought we were running drugs since we were out of town or what but I definitely felt targeted - which is TERRIFYING nowadays.

I watched almost everyone get engaged or married as I started over and felt nothing but happiness for them.

I evaluated the environment my child was in and realized it was unnecessarily toxic. More determined than ever to get a new place.

I took a trip with a childhood friend to Colorado and it was AMAZING!

I grew tired of bitter arguments and adopted a nonresponse approach (I only respond if a legitimate question is asked).

I was sued by a scammer for 1000s who caused an accident. It was technically my fault for ‘following’ too closely even though we were at a complete stop prior to collision (they need to change that law). Not a serious wreck. maybe $1000 worth of damage between the 2 cars (that’s being generous). Told my insurance company I had video of the man telling me about his pre-existing health issues - which he claimed I caused in the accident. My insurance company paid him anyway. I have a new insurance company now. :-)

I’ve grown closer to my inner circle.

Benihana became a fav.

I dealt with the person who was supposed to care about me telling lies to family and friends in an effort to save their own face from their indiscretions. It only worked on their family though. Nobody believes that BS and if they do, I hope their 2018 is blessed as they continue life with no rationale.

I no longer can deal with anyone who cannot take responsibility for their actions.

I had a close friend go through a divorce and another who faced the reality her partner was a mooch and cheater. We became each other’s support throughout our personal devastations. The 3 of us are in a better place.

I kicked myself in the face everyday for giving up on my dreams in order to have a successful family-only to get fucked over. I kept myself from becoming bitter as I see the very people that I helped in the music industry become more successful than myself within the field. (On the independent shit...traded it all for a husband and some kids....and it was a major fail).

THE ECLIPSE!! I felt something spiritual happening in the universe. Incredible experience.

My Macbook screen cracked (thank God for insurance).

Age is no longer a viable excuse for being an adult and conducting yourself in a completely idiotic fashion. I will distance myself from you immediately.

I stopped conversing with people who added nothing to my life.

I lost 20 pounds due to stress. Trying to gain that back.

I saved one my best friend’s life. Scariest moment of the year for sure.

I realized, I’ve outgrown most of my family and friends. I’m more career driven and I love working towards success. The average person doesn’t think like that and it’s sad. I can’t stay around those type of people because I become “boujee” in their eyes. lol

Depression was a thing for me this year.

I’ve grown extremely impatient with people who do nothing or live mediocre lifestyles. I can’t deal with it. It irritates me when I can’t say “hey let’s take a flight to NY next month and hang out” or “let’s go to the cabins for the weekend” and everybody is crying broke in advance. Stop working retail jobs in yall mid-late 20s. Let the teenagers have them. I’m not saying this to come down on people but I’m sick of seeing #goals on the most basic things on social media and they’re still not achieved (ex: pics of like 10 friends showing their passports-YOU CAN GET A PASSPORT AND TAKE A TRIP!) This does not apply to those in transition. This applies to those who are complacent.

I applied for my master’s but couldn’t start in January as planned. I need 2 additional business classes first. I’ll save up and pay for those out of pocket.

I’m over people who’ve been in school for 17 years with no certifications or degrees. They inadvertently become leeches. More doing. Less talking.

I will never settle again due to loneliness. Loneliness is a vacation compared to a toxic relationship.

I recognized how condescending I come off, but it comes from a good place. Working on my delivery in 2018.

In 2018, I will pressure those remaining in my life to progress. I will challenge everyone to better themselves and their surroundings. Things are tough-especially if you’re doing it alone (respect to all single mothers and fathers). I’ve had it tough this whole year (really the last 3) but I didn’t break. I didn’t decide to live off the government, friends, men, parents or grandparents. I didn’t go into some hole and replay all decisions that led me to this point. I encourage everyone to set goals and go after them. Make short term goals to catapult you toward your longterm goal. Life derailed my plans but life is an obstacle course. I went through so many life/personal changes and so many challenges in a city where I have only ONE cousin. DASSIT! No local support system whatsoever. This is not to highlight the bad. Difficulties develop character.

Learning happens when pain is the teacher. Some of the greatest lessons come from empty pockets, hungry stomachs, and broken hearts. - Bishop Bronner.

Rehab Update 12

These last couple of days have been really nice. Coal really wore himself out this weekend, and his attitude has greatly improved because of it. It took 4 trips to the dog run for at least 10-20 minutes plus an hour at the beach to knock him out for the last two days.

He has been soooo well behaved on walks, even for my husband. He still jumps at my husband after walks and we are discussing strategies to work with this as the ignore thing isn't working in this situation. It works well for meal times, though today he jumped at my husband a few times. I think the reason for barking at hubby after walks and barking at hubby after meals are motivated by two different reasons. Barking after or during meals means no food, so Coal has learned to stop barking and jumping. He is still really tense and tends to pace after eating. He really doesn't trust my husband at all....

So I think the meal-time one is demand barking--he wants it now, and hurry it up, James! So the ignoring works. After walks...that is a tough one.

We have been watching him closely. Basically, if husband is not in the room, Coal is calm and usually will lie down. BUT he knows when hubby is coming, and he immediately stands up at stares at the door that he is going ot come through. He is full attention, head down slightly to hear better or sometimes up and watching. He'll do a half-hover on his back legs before coming forward and jumping up and barking. The bark is mid-range and a series of barks, sometimes just one or two, sometimes more. He will follow hubby while jumping/barking and when hubby sits down in his seat, he will stop. If hubby stays standing or attempts to get control/redirect (sit/lay, which are his strongest cues and usually automatic) the barking will increase in frequency and become more high pitched. If the door is open, it starts at about 10 feet distance.

Coal really works himself up for this, too. You can see the tension building in his body. I don't see any hackles raised, but his ears are on alert forward and his tail is stiff, sometimes arched over his back, but usually just stiff. My guess is that Coal is trying to control the area around him and drive hubby out---fear or just wanting to control the situation. I am trying to get hubby to do the technique I did, but it is hard because of how worked up Coal gets. So we are going to try a new technique with me managing the feeding of super yummy treats when hubby is present AND Coal is not barking/calm. If he barks/jumps, no more treats. Hubby isn't seen, no more treats. We will have to do this over the times we are both home, so we only have Sat-Sun-Mon mornings. (I walk him in the mornings Tues-Fri because I don't have time in the evening due to work, so Hubby walks him then...) Our Goal will be to work it so that hubby can walk by, he doesn't bark, and he gets the nice treat from hubby. The reason we won't have hubby toss the treats is because we want Coal to maintain a relaxed down and tossing it means he will have to get up, which increases his excitement.

It's not a pro plan, and I plan on talking with the pro on Sunday to get help smoothing out the wrinkles, but the ignore technique is just not working in this situation. Works great for meals, though.

On the plus side, hubby and I are really putting our heads together to figure out how to drain out the puppy energy so that he continues his good behavior on walks with hubby. Given our neighborhoods lack of landscape, this is proving very difficult. Up north near the dog training center has lots of clean, clear rivers and even some dog runs that have pools! But that is over an hour drive and we need something we can do frequently. I got Coal a new leather tug toy that we will not be leaving alone with him and plan on bringing it with me on walks to see if we can get some play time out of him. We are also talking about taking the large shallow bucket we use for bleaching our dishes, rinsing it out and filling it with water to toss his toys into and see if we can get him to play that way.

I am slowly increasing his toy box again, this time with bought toys because he is far too strong for my meager hand-made stuff. Kong is a great buy, so i have his Kong from when he was a puppy (regular red) and the durable black Kong. We are getting Kong Traxx tomorrow, and he has his puzzle ball. We got a puzzle toy for him where he has to slide doors and move stuff to get at the treats, too. I get him a new toy each month (though this month was a lucky two!) I think next month I will get him a new puzzle ball ^_^ I want to get the Kong Wubble, but the only versions in Japan are the ones that squeak and this is a downstairs toy. I saw that they make one that doesn't squeak...just can't find it here in Japan :( I will start replenishing his loud squeaky toys during the winter months when he can come back upstairs again :)

Coal is sooo spoiled hehe. He is a good dog, though, and hubby is almost satisfied. Basically, if we can get the jump/barking to completely stop and keep up his good leash manners as they are (they don't have to be as good as when he is with me) then Hubby will be happy. naturally, I am going to continue to push for more.

I hope that some day, Coal can warm up to hubby again. It saddens me that their chance at a solid bond was damaged so, but there is no changing the past. I maintain faith that things will improve between them. Hubby has done a spectacular job at adjusting his attitude--better at praising and treats, does great happy voice and maintains a warm demeanor towards Coal. He doesn't trust Coal at all, though, and I don't blame him, but there has been marked improvement. If the improvement can increase just a tiny bit more and maintain itself from here on out, things will really start to improve between them.

CANTLON: DISMANTLING THE WOLF PACK

BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings HARTFORD, CT - Any thought of the Hartford Wolf Pack making the post-season were slim at best, but another Monday off day trade pretty much seals the team’s fate. The New York Rangers have tossed in the towel on their AHL affiliate's season and have begun the dismantling the 2018-19 edition of the team. In the space of a month, the Rangers have traded their team captain, Cole Schneider, the fourth consecutive season where the team captain was dealt, their first off-season signing from last summer, goalie Marek Mazanec, and now the team's leading scorer, Peter Holland. Holland, 28 was a former #1 overall pick of the Anaheim Ducks. He was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 22-year-old defenseman, and former first-round selection, Darren Raddysh, who was playing with the Rockford Ice Hogs. Holland was assigned to Rockford with a ledger that has 20 goals and 49 points on it, tops on the Wolf Pack and ninth in AHL scoring race. Holland was one of the three assistant captains on the team. The other assistant captains are Steven Fogarty and Matt Beleskey - who's filling for the injured Rob O’Gara. The new assistant structure is still being formulated. “We have a couple scenarios we have looked at, but no final decision has been made,” remarked head coach McCambridge. The second year bench boss kept his remarks to the point in losing his leading scorer. “Peter did a lot of good things for this organization its an opportunity for both players we get a young defenseman on the back end and that’s a part of pro sports and part of the game of hockey,” replied a measured Keith McCambridge. Did you get a heads up that this deal was a possibility ? “As a head coach in this league you always know around this time of year, the trade deadline time this is a possibility of some type of movement,” said McCambridge being very precise in his answers when asked twice about the trade. In Holland’s first game with Rockford he posted two primary assists in a 3-2 OT come from behind win in Grand Rapids sporting jersey number 13. For the the Pack’s Matt Beleskey, now the most senior forward of experience on the team he has been through the revolving door of hockey was sanguine regarding the upheaval of the past month. “You see what the big club what direction there going in. It’s tough, but as a team you have to look at yourself and were not winning and when things aren’t going well there gonna be changes. Its really tough to lose Pete, he has been a good player and leader for us. I know he wasn’t asking to go anywhere it’s kinda surprising, but it’s a part of the business. We all know things happen at this time of year (trade deadline) it usually does and I don’t think its over.”” For Beleskey, he loses just not only a teammate, a fellow veteran to guide in the sheperding process with the younger players which Holland embraced, he loses his linemate. Holland along with the presently injured Ville Meskanen formed one of the few consistent solid lines the Pack have had all season. Helping young players absorb this lesson is not by him alone,but he clearly a few extra bricks are tossed on his shoulder. “Its kinda done by committee,but you have to point out if you have a losing record changes are going to happen. You certaintly don’t want to get use to this (losing) you want a team to stick together and be able to go places in April and may that’s a lesson. I kinda try to preach when things are going well, these kinda changes don’t happen.” Beleskey skated with Lias Andersson and Bobby Butler the last two days and that changed Thursday afternoon. Lias Andersson, who has just one goal and six points in 16 game since the Rangers reassigned him after four points in 21 games in New York was recalled as the Rangers because they will sit either one or both, Steven Hayes and ex-CT Whale Mats Zuccarello who are expected to be traded by Monday by the Rangers. “Look we have what maybe 30% of the team we started the year with. I think one or two defenseman right now from the start, so that’s tough to get into a groove, but our job is not to make the lineup, its to play. That’s all you can really do,”. The Holland trade was the 22nd AHL level trade made prior to Monday’s NHL trade deadline by the parent clubs since mid-December. These moves are primarily cap space moves for this season and in some cases for next season, a year before the expected lockout/work stoppage coming at the NHL level. Holland scored his 20th goal Sunday afternoon in a wild 5-4 OT loss to Wilkes Barre allowing the Wolf Pack to have had at least one 20 goals scorer in each of their 22 seasons. Holland is a UFA after this season which his salary was a one way NHL deal at $700K. The player he was traded for is right handed defenseman Darren Raddysh who had a strong junior career with Erie (OHL) with 65 assists 81 points plus 22 points in 22 OHL playoff games and eight points in five Memorial Cup games in his last season. Raddysh was a free agent undrafted signee to an ELC deal by the Black Hawks which he has one more year left at $70K-AHL/$755K-NHL.Raddysh has played 120 AHL games with Rockford with 13 goals and 48 points for the 6’0 200lb. rearguard. His brother Taylor plays for Syracuse (AHL). McCambridge got his first look at him at Wednesday’s practice. “He was poised with the puck, moved it well, I liked how his shot came off his stick, a good first practice and impression,” said McCambridge. Having a righthanded defenseman is like a lefthanded pitcher in baseball everybody wants a couple of them. “There are year when you might six righthanded shots as I have seen a lot of different mixes in the past. Right now, you want the best available defenseman to work on the back end.” The Wolf Pack have a truly very important three in three this weekend they must be all regulation wins no overtimes or shootouts if they can keep the very slim post season hopes alive. Friday season long nemesis Springfield is in town and Saturday starts a home and home with the team holding fourth place in the Atlantic division the Providence Bruins. “We felt we have had some good efforts like against Toronto, we split two games in Lehigh Valley never an easy easy building to play in this league. Then again Bridgeport we had a chance there against a team who added two good piece on a conditioning loan (Andrew Ladd and Thomas Hickey both recalled on Monday). We like the traction we have had, we just haven’t gotten the results.” For John Gilmour he realizes this a critical weekend. “We have had a do or die mentality lately, we just haven’t gotten the W’s we wanted. We have a little over 20 games left we can’t afford to drop any and were playing every game like it’s a playoff game. We have to have a lot of desperation to our games if we want to make the playoffs which is our goal.” The Wolf Pack are down three games to none can they reverse the trend ? The three year ECHL vet has 15 goals and 37 assists for 52 points in 53 games with Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). He has 145 career ECHL games with Wheeling and Manchester and 36 career AHL games with Utica, Springfield and Portland when they were in the AHL as the Pirates. -The Washington Capitals picked up ex-CT Whale Carl Hagelin from Los Angeles for a 3rd round pick in 2019 and a conditional sixth round pick in 2020 late Thursday. "We are pleased to welcome Carl to our organization," said Caps senior VP and GM former New Haven Nighthawk Brian MacLellan. "We felt this trade enables us to add depth up front and provides us with a veteran player with a tremendous amount of speed to help us on the penalty kill." -Ryan Donato, son of ex-Pack and Sound Tiger Ted Donato was traded by Boston to Minnesota for Charlie Coyle, a younger cousin to former New Haven Nighthawk, Bobby “The Cat” Sheehan. -Ex-Pack Desmond Bergin signed a PTO deal with Binghamton he was playing with Adirondack (ECHL). -Former UCONN Husky Derek Pratt having been scratched both games that he was eligible for was released on Tuesday from his PTO deal and reassigned to Maine (ECHL). This was similar to Matt Petgrave two weeks ago who was scratched for three games he was eligible for and returned to Brampton (ECHL). -Goalie Chris Nell, still Rangers property was reassigned early in the year to Greenville (ECHL) their old ECHL affiliate from Maine was curiously reassigned to Hartford Wednesday. Like Halverson is in the last year of his contract. -Justin Salvaggio who played four games last year for the Wolf Pack was reassigned from Maine (ECHL) to Wichita (ECHL). -Looking ahead four Wolf Pack players will be UFA (unrestricted free agents) Group 6 category at the end of the year. Group 6 is defined as a player with three years pro experience who has not played 80 NHL games by their 25th birthday making them unrestricted. Steven Fogarty and Rob O’ Gara each have just 11 games, John Gilmour is at 28 and Boo Nieves who is in New York, if he plays all of the remaining 24 Rangers games will qualify by just two games. Dustin Tokarski and Connor Brickley on recall are straight UFA’s. -After three games and no points ex-Pack Dale Weise was assigned to Laval by Montreal. -Micheal Haley, the ex-Wolf Pack and Sound Tiger was claimed off waiver by his former NHL team the San Jose Sharks from the Florida Panthers. -Former New Haven Senators head coach Don MacAdam brought in as an interim coach on December 18th was let go after exactly two months later from SC Csikszereda (Romania-EBEL) that plays in the Austrian Elite League. -Late breaking news is the New York islanders have named Oak View Group (OVG) to be the new management company of the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. This is significant in two ways. One, OVG that is the group beginning the renovation project on the Seattle KeyArena that will house the NHL’s 32nd yet unnamed franchise. The other significance is OVG is in partnering with MSG run by Jim Dolan who is the primary financial backer in OVG on renovation in Seattle and have a piece of the pie with the Islander new building to be built in Belmont Park slated to begin at last report next month. Webster Bank Arena’s original 20 year lease negotiated by the late Roy Boe expires in two seasons and the building at 20 years of age will need state funding to begin replacing and repairing its operating mechanical systems. Matthew Herpich, was named the new GM of the Webster Bank Arena, a 12 year veteran of arena management . He has run arena’s in Chicago, Portland,ME, Cleveland State University and in Aiken, SC.
