You know what? Today I wake up to yap about my smg4 fanfics, about the process and stuff, so get ready guys, prepare to read a lot.
SMG4 Fanfics made by Lilac_Heart, aka, me but with a different username
Disclaimer. They’re 8 fics at moment, but only gonna talk about 6, mostly because there is nothing special to say about the first one and the new gen fic is still uploading, so it’s not finished.
Tumblr media
I care about you (BoMG1)
The idea came out when I was brainstorming comics ideas, but I only got this funny drawing:
Tumblr media
Then I got an idea: “a comic where Bob got badly injured and One heal his scars, that’s sound like an amazing idea”.
Buuuut, I was brainstorming the ideas of how the comic should go A particular idea made me realize this work better as a fic, I say: “fuck the comic, let’s make a fanfic”.
Can’t remember if the idea that Bob could get badly injured in one of his business was based in Guns Don’t Scare Me from @briandraws, but I do know I have a few bomg1 fics from him as reference for descriptions and other stuff once I did the english translation.
Bob bring back the nickname of “pretty eyes” to One, is a reference to Glowing Eyes.
Scrap content that I found in the spanish draft!
Instead of Smg2 going by himself to find some pills for Bob, originally it was Smg1 who sent him.
A lot of scenes were extended: Bob and Smg2 conversation about the blades; the “confession” of smg1, which was thanks to Two; Two constantly teasing the couple; the ending.
An actual conversation about if the date would happen, which was between Two and Bob.
Tumblr media
Human touch (Marware)
Marware but they just start their relationship. Also, Puzzles touch starved.
Original title from the spanish draft: “Besos para ti” translated into “Kisses for you”, which the original idea was Mario kissing Puzzles.
Just because I really need more fanfics where they are just being soft, and when Mario kisses Puzzles and hugs him ough… So that was the main idea, but I need a “how?” And “why?” Then boom, touch-starved Puzzles.
Obviously I made this fic way before we know about Puzzles family, so let’s pretend when Puzzles have affection of his dad was when he was very young, alright?
The idea of Puzzles not having a hug or any kind of affection since long time ago was based on a prompt I found on Pinterest, and I have a bunch of tabs of how to write a touch-starved person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Desiring to become a human, so I can kiss you properly (Marware)
Before anyone ask. Yes, me putting the HDR Trio was necessary for many plot reasons as you can see in the fic.
Also, first time I straight went to doing the english version instead of doing a spanish version to then translate it. Huge thanks to my uncle who give a huge boost of confidence when he told I managed english perfectly hehehe.
This fic was a pure excuse just to finally write them making out, so imagine my surprise when people love it and one of my favorite artists made fanart and I swear to god every time I remember it, it feels like this:
Tumblr media
Also hi @lizaluvsthis
The illusion disks are from fnaf and I had to look up for any info that could explain to me how they work, just understand the basics and then I did whatever I want because I couldn’t understand it correctly.
Also, I don’t if it’s just me, but I feel the fight was forced for some reason, is either that or I just feel like this every time I reread the fic:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Dilemma (BadgeHunter)
The biggest one at the moment, and this one have a lot to unpack here.
Original idea from @ominus-potato, which I expand and change a few things:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
List of the headcanons that were used for the story:
Mirror headcanon, come from this post. Huge thanks for @izbiz12 for coming with this one.
Hal Jr. having a body comes from the idea of @blu193, which was the high inspiration to him give him a body.
Hal overworking himself is a common thing I found out scrolling in both Blu and Bear profiles, bring by IzBiz.
With “fresh scars” I really wanna implied that Shroomy already have some previous scars, another call back to Blu because she was the one who have the idea of Shroomy having scars for the bear encounter.
Junior being in scouts is actually an idea from Potato, which cool idea.
In the scene when Shroomy and Hal went to the office of the police officer, there was meant to be a scene where Shroomy looked at the picture frame that was on the desk, which was a family picture of Hal, his wife, and Junior. Cut off for unknown reasons.
Shroomy, Hal, Karen, Swag, and Chris being friends is a personal headcanon of mine. Also, Hal leaving Junior to Karen to take care of him is my favorite headcanon, and Brian and I share the same brain cell lmao.
Tumblr media
Cozy and soft (BoMG1)
Purely made this because I was craving for BoMG1 content, thanks to this drawing I got inspiration as well, Brian marware fic which has the same concept.
It’s the shortest fic I made after a while, which was the main idea, didn’t want to do something long.
A few references to Glowing Eyes (again):
One got scared by Bob eyes.
Bob getting a copy of the apartment keys.
The mention of a broken window.
Tumblr media
Nightmare and Comfort (BadgeHunter)
Idea that I got when I wake up at 7 am. Which the general idea was Hal comforting Shroomy about a nightmare/memory from his past.
This is time I used @bear-boi-5 headcanon about how the aftermath of the bite was. Nothing like Shroomy told in Mario Babies, of course.
I decided that Anti would have control of the body, mostly because he was the most affected of the accident for obvious reasons, also I love Anti, so I would used this opportunity.
I have to avoid mentioning any alcoholic drinks name, because I drink but I have zero idea what are they, soooo… yeah only beer was mentioned because is the one with less alcohol by volume, at least what this post say.
Anti laughing when he gets drunk, is actually based in one of the effects that happened to me.
The dynamic between Anti and Hal is quite complicated, considering the personality of Anti. They tolerate each other and they have to resolved their differences because of Shroomy and Hal hanging out more.
Important to say that after this, Anti would start having feeling for Hal after he understand what Shroomy see on him. Would this cause problems? Not sure, but until further notice, probably yes :)
— — — — —
Hahaha I just love yap about my fics and all the process behind them, is super fun and I actually wanna share this with all of you because you guys are cool and also there is a inspiration behind those stories.
Now, if you excuse I have to get back to do some stuff :]

Hi there, I’m not trying to be mean when I ask this, but do you have permission to use the fanart you post with your fics? I don’t see artist credits and know many Japanese artists do not like their art to be reposted, especially not without credit.
Hello lovely anon! Thank you so much for asking about art in my fics. I appreciate you starting this conversation, and am very happy to have this reopen again.
When I began my journey of writing fics, I used to use gifs already premade on this site and have them as the title image. As my interest in the characters spread further into characters not in OPLA, I began to seek out art on other platforms.
The art I use, I find on: Reddit, Pinterest, or a good ol' fashioned google search. I have asked creators on this platform for permission to use their art in fics, and have respected their wishes whether permission is given or not. So far, I have been told "no" only one time, and have respected that wish.
If you hover over the little "alt" button, that's where I paste my sources to give credit to the artists, and implore you to seek out their work and look at it for yourself. It's the little box on the left-hand side of the image (or the three dots that come up when you hover your mouse over them). I have used text links in the past to send people to their sites, but I thought the alt text box felt better: like a little watermark to send those looking for their work.
I've responded to an ask like this in the past, but I am very much open to continuing this dialogue. I am constantly learning about how to best be respectful and give credit where credit is due. I never claim this art as my own (if you've seen the art I do on here, it's lackluster to say the least), I use it to inspire the words I create.
Thank you again for opening this dialogue, I appreciate your concern and rallying to the defence of artists and creators on here.
Edit
I have been informed that this is not what the alt box is for, and am going through each post I've made with art and added links to where I've found them via collecting them from the alt box and pasting the link for easier access. I honestly thought that was what we were meant to do, and I apologise for my misunderstanding.
Going forward, I will be no longer be using art found on Pinterest or Google because I've been made aware that some of that art is reposts by people who did not get permission from the original artists to reupload and share it. Another misunderstanding from my part.
I am truly sorry for the way this was handled on my part. It didn't sit well with me, and I am trying to do better.

maybe don’t post something if you don’t know the artist ???? this is common sense i fear. like how old are u fr. what if someone reposted ur writing because they “didn’t know the original author” ???
girl it’s not that serious. i found the original artist which is: Illust_Man_2020 & Livivi001 (X)
pinterest reposts lots of artists so sometimes i save them cause of how cute they are. you purposely being rude is not cute, you could’ve said your point without the extra shit.
y’all gone watch who tf y’all talking to cause i’m not the one nor the two, get it together.

i’m also a nondenominational christian, who is highly critical of the church. specifically my beliefs are closest to anglican and catholic as that’s what i was raised as, but It’s Complicated™️. i am firmly anti evangelical/pentacostal/any other fundamentalist or cult sects, and anti missionary. i am pro all other religions. antitheists are not welcome on this blog. atheists and agnostics of course are.
i tag any posts relating to my faith as ‘christian tag’ and posts about christianity generally that don’t pertain to me as ‘christianity’ for blacklisting purposes. if you have trauma surrounding christianity and would prefer not to interact, there’s no hard feelings! i wish you good health and healing :)
i post a lot about my about my special interests and hyperfixations. full disclosure that dragon age rewired my brain chemistry in 2023, so there’s probably going to be a lot of that around for the foreseeable future.

i try to tag common triggers with ‘[trigger] cw’ or ‘[trigger] tw’ without the brackets. if i forget to tag something, pls let me know and i’ll fix it asap. MINORS PLEASE BLACK LIST ‘MINORS DNI’ AND ‘NSFW’. flashing media is tagged as ‘flashing gif’ and ‘flashing video’. i am not currently tagging any queer community related slurs and i do personally reclaim the word fag. please let me know if there’s anything you need tagged and i’ll do my best! the only thing i will not tag the word queer.
i generally tag spoilers. i usually tag for tv for up to a week after. i am currently tagging dragon age spoilers as: ‘dav spoilers’ for veilguard and current marketing. story relevant spoilers are tagged, as is anything else from behind the embargo. this does not include basic marketing. vows and vengeance is tagged ‘vows and vengeance spoilers’ and ‘dragon age spoilers’. these are tagged for 3-4 days after release, but i don’t usually make new posts after that anyway.

i’m an inclusionist of all good faith queer identities (yes, that kind too). whatever intracommunity queer discourse you’re thinking of i’m probably pro-inclusion. exclusionists are not welcome on this blog, folks who are looking for answers in good faith, or are former exclusionists are.
i’m an ‘anti’ in the sense that i believe in critical media consumption and am against child pornography. i also believe in holding bigotry, and racism in particular, to account in fandom spaces. i believe dark topics can be explored in fiction, but i also believe romantisization of incest, abuse, pedophilia, etc is Bad. ie. i don’t vibe with uncritical works or works that are straight up pro incest etc. antiantis/proshippers etc are not welcome here for this reason. and since apparently it needs to be said, i also do not believe in harassment or death threats/suicide bait etc. grow up.
dni
general dni criterias - if i catch you being bigoted in any way and you don’t attempt to better yourself after being held to account you’re getting blocked
terfs/twerfs/swerfs/radfems of any kind. this blog loves and supports trans women and sex workers. bioessentialism is bad.
exclusionists of any kind (yes, that kind too)
maps/nomaps/whatever pedophile fucks are calling themselves these day
proship/anti antis/comship/comfic/whatever y’all are calling yourselves
and on a personal note - if you were one of the people who sent death threats and suicide bait around the bbc sherlock fandom on twitter in 2019: fuck off. several people i care about nearly took their own lives because of you and i don’t want you anywhere near me. death threats etc are awful in general but this one was personal.
thanks for reading!

hi hello! I reblogged your post with a question added and it doesn't show up in your notes for some reason. idk why. maybe you banned it but I have no way of knowing that. I'll put it here in case it's just tumblr behaving weirdly, you can always just delete this ask, too
Genuine question: what is the best course of action if you found some art "laying in the corner of the sidewalk" -- i.e. reposted somewhere without credit (Pinterest I'm looking at you) -- and reverse image search doesn't turn up anything useful (e.g. if the reposter cropped off the artist's signature, and now reverse image search only turns up reposts of that repost), and you have/know of no specific non-public community to ask for directions to the original artist, or the ones you know also can't find them?
Because this feels like the one situation where reposting and being like "anyone knows who the author is?" would be at least semi-okay... but I'm no artist, and I've now got the excuse to ask about it
genuine question #2: is sending stuff to like group chats (not posting publicly) seen as reposting, or is it more or less okay to do it w/o permission? most artists I've asked say it's not really reposting but. y'know. just to be sure
hi! this is an interesting ask and i think in those specific cases an artist can feel differently than the other so i can only tell you what i would do/feel like in those situations.
the first one is definitely a gray area for me, i can tell u that, if it were my art that was uncredited and reposted publicly, it would make me a bit uncomfy, even if the intention behind it was good. if i were the one to find an uncredited piece i would probably leave it there, and/or try look for private groups of friends where i could ask privately and try to find the original artist. i think the most important thing here if you post it publicly would be to delete the repost after a while or once the original artist has been found.
and for the second case i don’t mind tbh, i also don’t consider it really reposting, and for my case i’d say it’s ok to do it even without asking the artist, (if the content was behind a paywall like a patreon tier i would not share it outside in principle but also i can’t control chats) but as a general rule of thumb i still think it’s always good etiquette to ask, just to be sure.

Didn’t think I’d have to make a post like this but since there seems to be confusion: none of the art or photos I post are mine. I am not the artist, I am not the photographer. I’m an editor, that’s it.
I would never and have never claimed any content on my blog to be owned by me. I just edit photos I find on the internet and share them here. If your artwork or photography is on my blog and you’d like me to credit you, I will. If your work is on my blog and you want me to remove it, I will.
All artwork I have found on Pinterest does not have a source so I can’t give credit if I don’t know who the original artist is.
Mine and fellow creators’ edits have been stolen, reposted, etc as well. This is nothing new. If the original content is on tumblr, please reblog it from the OP if possible.

Sourcing guide for images
So you found an image on Google/Pinterest/Instagram/Facebook/Twitter/Wattpad/Wherever and don’t know where it’s from? Here’s a guide to hopefully help. This seems like a lot, but a lot of the time this stuff can take a minute or less in practice once you get the hang of it. And always remember to repeat after me: art on Pinterest/Wattpad/Weheartit/Google images is not free real estate.
I would also highly recommend using a translator extension on Firefox (just google "translator extension Firefox") or browsers like Chrome with built-in translators so you can translate pages. It's a lot easier to navigate what people are saying that way. And I recommend using a pop-up blocker.
Please support actual artists: if you love their art, show it directly by supporting their posts! That's a very easy way to get them to do more art! Like/kudos/heart/bookmark/retweet/reblog/whatever directly on their post, leave them comments! Artists often get discouraged if people just repost their work, particularly on the same platform (and especially on pinterest), and will sometimes delete the work or all their art entirely, or even give up making art entirely.
Also, this is mostly something that works for fanart and maybe photography. Sourcing videos and text is a bit different.
Most importantly, you can usually ask the community for help! Tag the character, the series, go to a fandom discord, and ask. Typically there are folks who will either recognize the art and/or even know the artist, or can at least help with sourcing.
Sourcing
1. Is there a watermark/signature somewhere? Does the name on the account match it? If it doesn’t, is there other art on the account that has that watermark/signature (artists rebrand all the time)? If everything matches, are there comments on the post saying “hey stop reposting my art”/”stop reposting x’s art”? If there is a watermark, does it look obviously photoshopped (a lot of clickbait reposters will add fake watermarks)? If everything matches and looks fine, probably this is the artist and you need go no further and can reblog/like/share from there.
2. Is there a link in the post to the actual artist/at least a name? Sometimes on pinterest, there will be a link to the original post, usually on twitter, either in text or as an actual link. Reposters on tumblr often include links to pixiv and twitter. Please go to the original posting place - assuming that's what it is and it's not another reposter or deleted - and support it there, if possible, rather than the reposter. And maybe they have other socials that you also use, so you can support them in places you’re more familiar with (e.g., you want to retweet on twitter, but someone linked their tumblr; see if the artist has a twitter and if they’ve posted the art there so you can RT from them).
3. Has someone in the comments linked to the artist/the original art post? Or has the artist come in and said “hey this is my art!” Problem solved. Go there and support the art there. If there’s no link but there’s a name, try googling the name with “pixiv”/”deviantart”/”twitter”/”Tumblr”/[other art-sharing platform].
4. You have a watermark/signature but it doesn’t match who’s on the account.
If it is legible, try googling the name/title and “pixiv”/”deviantart”/”twitter”/”Tumblr”/[other art-sharing platform]. Support them there. Artists sometimes spread their art across multiple platforms, and sometimes take down fanart (particularly stuff that gets stolen a lot)/older art in particular, so be prepared to check multiple accounts. Artists will also sometimes change their screenname. Usually this can be spotted if they've shared a lot of art with both the old and new names, and sometimes they'll even list somewhere "formerly known as" or something.
5. Look at the account that posted it.
Are they an art account? If they are an art account, do they say they’re an artist? If they’re an art account but not an artist (e.g., they’re a blog that just reposts any art they find), chances are that’s not the creator.
Is that the only art image they’ve posted? Are the other images on the account similar in style and/or content? If they aren’t similar, is there a reason given for the change in style/content type (e.g., “I’m an artist who experiments in things”/multi-fandom accounts)? Also check the dates: if art pieces are posted with a long time between, sometimes the stylistic/content differences are just because the artist developed a lot between posting or switched fandom. But it shouldn't really be a radical change without explanation. If they’re an artist, but the art doesn’t generally match the style of the other images on their account, they also probably aren’t the artist.
6. Dates
Take note of the date of posting: if you're struggling to tell who's done a thing, chances are the person with the earlier posting date is the actual artist, because the art thief had to see it first to share it. Sometimes this doesn't work because an artist reposted their own work and/or deleted the original, but it's good to keep an eye on. This is mostly more valuable for tracking down videos, but it can be helpful for images, as well.
Image searching platforms and how to use them:
Google image search
If you know you have a repost on a reposter's account, you can use Google image search to try and source it.
Tumblr media
If you're on browser on a computer, go to Google's homepage, go up to the top right of the screen, and click "images".
This will reload the page in the image section.
Tumblr media
In the new search bar, click the little camera next to the magnifying glass. This will bring up a pop-up window, where you can drag an image, upload an image, or paste an image link. Personally, I have the most success saving the image to my computer and uploading it that way, but all methods generally work. To get an image URL, right click the image, and then click "Copy Image Link". If you just paste say, a Tumblr page, chances are that won't work. If you can't save an image or copy an image URL, screencap it, cropping as much non-image as possible, and use that. If you're trying to source fanart in a video compilation, pause the video and screencap the image.
Once you've done that, Google will take you to a new window with the image on the left, next to suggestions and visual matches.
Tumblr media
Sometimes, the visual match section will list the actual source, usually a twitter, deviantart, pixiv, maybe a vk. If you click it and everything checks out, you're done. Follow the steps above to make sure it's the right account and not another reposter.
If this only gives you sourceless pinterest reposts, look at the left side of the screen and click the bar that says "Find image source" with an outgoing link icon. This will take you back to normal Google search, and you can browse your options, looking primarily for actual art sites like Tumblr, artstation, deviantart, instagram, etc.
Tumblr media
Sometimes, if you're desperate, and you see in the link preview for a pinterest or a Youtube or w/e a reference to an art site, click there and see if that'll get you to the actual artist. Pinterest or another reposter is not your end goal. You're looking for someone, somewhere, who's actually listed the right artist and where to find their art.
Note if you've only got part of an image/a blurry version of it
If you search and all your search comes up with is at least a larger version of the image or a higher quality version of an image, perhaps with a signature or watermark, this is a great new starting point, because it helps search engines find things better. Heck, maybe you can just type in the name on the image and find an account that way. In this case, start the image search over with the better quality version of the image.
Sometimes, going to the search bar and typing in the name of the character in the art/a description of the image or what seems to be the artist signature (next to the uploaded image) and hitting enter will help the search engine.
Yandex image search
Yandex image search is honestly where I have a lot more luck finding things these days. If you just google yandex, click the images icon above the search bar, and it'll take you to the right page.
Tumblr media
Once on the images page, click the camera icon in the search bar (you do not need an account with yandex for this).
Tumblr media
You can drag an image in, upload it, or share the image URL. Again, I find generally saving the image to my computer and uploading it gets better results.
The page will reload.
Tumblr media
The image will be in the top left. Similar images will be on the right. Links with the image will be on the bottom left. If you scroll through the links, look for a legitimate art account, and check all the stuff at the top to make sure it's the right one, or maybe links to the right one. Remember, pinterest is not your end goal (unless that's actually where the artist posts, which is 1 in a million). If need be, check the non-art sites (like pinterest) to see if they've listed a name or a URL somewhere you can go to in order to look there.
Similar images is good for this, because it's a fast refresh of the page if you look for the right one.
Sometimes, going to the search bar and typing in the name of the character in the art/a description of the image or what seems to be the artist signature (next to the uploaded image) and hitting enter will help the search engine.
SauceNAO
I haven't had much luck with SauceNAO in a while, but it is typically good if the artist posted on either pixiv, deviantart, or twitter.
Go to the page, and you can select the image to upload or paste the URL. I have far better luck uploading images than pasting URLs, particularly with SauceNAO.
When the page reloads, it should have a list of suggestions. Follow the links or google the names with websites it suggests. If that's not the art at all, or it doesn't suggest any links, but shows "Low similarity results have been hidden. Click here to display them...", click that bottom link. It'll show you the low similarity results. Sometimes this will get you what you're looking for. Sometimes it won't, but it's worth checking.
TinEye
I haven't had any luck with TinEye in ages, but it is there as an option, and it was useful once upon a time. And maybe it'll be useful with something. The helpful thing is that TinEye actually has a guide on how to use it.
Specific websites:
Tumblr
Go to the original source account. Sometimes this will give you an "this page does not exist". This does not always mean the artist deleted. It might mean they changed their URL. Try going to the closest reblog and see where they reblogged it from. There might be a "source: " section that can get you there, or a name you can at least type into google and follow up that way. It's also important to remember that even if you do find the source post for an image, that may not be the actual artist of the image, but just a reposter. Sometimes they will list where they got the art from. Sometimes someone in the notes (replies and/or reblogs) will list where the art is from. Follow the steps above for checking if the account posting it is an actual artist account who actually made the art (e.g., if the name on the account matches any signatures or watermarks, if the signature/watermark isn't clearly a photoshopped thing by someone else).
Twitter
A lot of the time this is as simple as checking who is being quote retweeted or retweeted. But if you're on an account that has an original post: to make searching easier and to figure out if they're an art reposter, go to their media tab. If there's no art there and it's just GIFs or a variety of dissimilar art, possibly with other names on it, chances are that's not the actual artist, and potentially a serial reposter. Twitter's archiving sucks, and it's possible the artist just deleted the art, but this is an easy way to winnow out the chaff. Sometimes it can be helpful to browse the regular twitter profile to see if they've retweeted the piece from the original artist. Again, sometimes going to the "original" twitter post doesn't mean that person is the artist. It might just be a reposter. Use the above steps to be sure the person who posted it actually made it.
Facebook
On Facebook, go to the original sharer. Often people will just keep sharing forever. Check the description: does it have a name? A date shared? A company website? Read the comments: perhaps someone else has already shared the link, or even the artist has commented. If you find the artist on Facebook, check their about section and see if they have accounts on the platforms you prefer.
YouTube
Check the summary for a name and/or links to the actual poster. If all else fails, check the comments to see if someone else has done the work for you.
Reddit
Has the poster listed a username? Has someone in the comments listed a link and/or username? Check there.
Pixiv
This isn't so much search on pixiv as it is finding pixiv accounts outside pixiv: if you get a pixiv ID, which should be a string of numbers, google "[the pixiv ID] pixiv" and that should get you to the right account. Unless they've deleted, which unfortunately happens.
Weibo/Lofter
Unfortunately if you're not Chinese it's very hard to get an account on Weibo, so if this is your only source, you may have better luck asking your community if they know where the art is from. They might be able to link you directly to the Weibo/Lofter post. I haven't been able to use it as a search engine, but it is at least sort of like an art archive if you can find the right artist.
VK
VK is, at least for this post, a Russian art hosting service. There is a lot of reposting on here, but if you find the right artist, you can browse back through their archive to see if you can find their work. I would highly suggest getting a free account on there. It's, well, free and easy to make, and makes browsing easier. Plus, you can keep bookmarks and follow artists.
Edits/Spotting style differences
Unfortunately there is a part of this that is just about getting better at spotting edits and stylistic differences that usually indicate edits/a reposter who takes from multiple accounts. A lot of the time, you don't have to go into depth on this: if most of the results you see when you say, use an image search engine, have a part of the piece that looks very different from what you have, chances are either the version you have was edited by a reposter, and the common image is the original, or the piece has been buried under folks reposting an edited image.
Some basic edit spotting help: does part of the anatomy of a figure look odd, often in the hands or expression (e.g., the hands might look broken or the perspective is off)? Does part of it look blurry? Is there something off about the coloring in part of the image? Is part of the image covered by what looks like a low quality border/effect?
Artists tend to keep the same general style over time, e.g., how they draw eyes, mouths, body shapes, what effects they use. But a lot of artists will experiment with mediums and their style will evolve over time. If you look at an art collection that comes from one account, you should start to see similarities (e.g., they give everyone black lipstick on their upper lip, they draw squarish eyes, their way to draw hands is very specific). If there are no similarities, and particularly if all the fandoms are different, typically that means a reposter.
One of the easiest ways to spot this is if someone else has said in a comment, "Hey stop reposting my art/this art belongs to x (please take it down!)". Very easy.
Blurriness and cropping
Another easy way to tell something is a repost is if it's weirdly blurry/fuzzy and seems to have been cropped. Sometimes artists will post cropped works in progress ("WIPs")/slightly fuzzy versions of WIPs as previews, but unless this is marked as a WIP, generally fuzzy/cropped stuff is a repost. If you plug these into Google and can find higher quality and less cropped versions of the image, chances are the original thing you were looking at is not the origin post.
Hopefully something here is helpful! If there's anything that's confusing, let me know! I'll try to keep this up to date over time.

Omg 😱 After years of not knowing who the artist to this is it just appears on my dash?! I love this work a lot, in fact it inspired one scene in the reed900 fanfic soft spot chapter 5. I had already decided on the concept of androids getting destroyed by water and the human owner „meeting the embers“ when I saw this piece floating somewhere on Pinterest and for the love of god I couldn’t find the original artist because they cropped out the watermark 😤 When I saw it now it immediately catapulted me back to 2018/2019 when my love for this fandom first bloomed. Gets me all teary eyed of the nostalgia and memories, in a happy way because I am glad I am still here and I doubt I will leave any time soon.
So now that I found it’s origin I wanted to say thank you and appropriately gush over your art 😊 I love the gloomy weather, the wind in Hank’s hair and the darkness of the water in contrast with the all white android! I don’t think I‘ve ever felt so much like I am there in the pic with them like I did with this one. Can almost hear the wind howling along the pier. Thank you so much for this gorgeous artwork ☺️💙

Life and Death
Oc [death god] x Oc [Life god]
Warnings: dead dove, yandere char, suicide on Life’s part, attempted suicide from char part.
An: This was my writing project for school :3, just wanted opinions tbh before I submitted the final version to my teacher. The rest of the requests are quite long so I’m doing this today so it won’t seem rushed tomorrow ✨✨✨✨
summary: Life always turns to Death
CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️❗️❗️❕❕❕❕❕❕❕💥💥💥💥💥💥‼️‼️‼️‼️
22 days till Christmas✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕👾👾👾👾👾👾🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
Life and Death.
Light and Dark.
‘Trifling concepts, mysterious beings.’
Life was a beautiful yet stern force, encasing all beings in a shell of protection, to which mortals called the ‘body’. Sadly, though, even if Life loved and wished to protect all her wondrous children, she let them roam the physical and spiritual world, allowing them the freedom of choice to do which they wanted with Life’s gifts.
But then Life gets tired. They trip too much, they hurt themselves or others hurt them until they seek solace in quiet tranquility in Rest.
They named the being ‘Death’.
Death was quiet and hardly spoke, only watching and listening to Life’s words and rambles until night fell, and all Life fell into their arms, and slumbered peacefully for a short while.
Death was at first silent, quiet and hesitant. He kept Life at arms length, only welcoming those who wished for the feeling of eternal rest into his domain.
Then Life started to mingle with Emotion, Love, Fear and Curiosity, welcoming them to have a part in all creatures souls, though still on constant watch from Life as to make sure they never harmed her delicate children.” It was *hardly* fair. Death had been a constant presence in Life’s days, yet why had Life welcomed those unfamiliar forms more readily than him? Were they perhaps just more appealing? More friendly?
Those naive fools didn’t deserve to be around Life any longer. All they did was cause pain and confusion. So he forcibly took Life down, taking along their friends, who, as they were falling, became all one.
‘Regret.’
Life cried and begged, insisting their time was not up- that the sunlight was purely where they belonged. But they were merely ravaged by Death, as they insisted Life had always been fated to fall into him. Life’s pleads were met with deaf ears as their days turned gloomy and hopeless. Life sometimes found small sources if hope-but dismissed it eventually.
Life started to remorse, the color being drained from their being as they eventually felt freedom slipping away permanently from their fingertips.
“Whats the point…?” They murmured to themselves, their once proud and strong body curled, shivering.
So Life turns to the one who hurt them most.
Death’s warm yet terrifying embrace.
“I’m yours now…thats what you wanted…right?”
“N-no…Thats…never what I wanted…
My love…”
In the end, after all, all life turns to Death once tired, and they always have their spread to welcome.
BTW: How does this relate to Christmas?
Because Christmas isn’t happy for everyone :) but I want it to be! So I hope you’ll use this fic as a vent like I did 🙂 My uncle died from cancer two years ago during this season when my cousin was twelve. Last time I saw both my parents cry. I was feeling down when it came up sooo here we are!!!! A fic meant to tackle that 😁

Art theft has always been bad, but I feel like the way tiktok promotes remixing other people’s content into “your own” has ESPECIALLY proliferated the idea that, if something is on the internet, it’s anyone’s to take.
like. My friend just found these comments on a tiktok someone made of their comic:
Tumblr media
This is why I don’t allow reposts. Because even if I give one person permission, even if they credit me and do everything I ask, you never know who is going to steal it from them.
So here’s your reminder:
If you see fanart or a fancomic you like, you ABSOLUTELY MAY NOT share it without checking if it’s ok first.
IF YOU RUN A FAN ACCOUNT. I’M LOOKING AT YOU. YOU’RE NOT HELPING ‘EXPOSE’ ARTISTS BY POSTING STOLEN ART YOU’RE JUST BEING SELFISH AND DISRESPECTFUL. @‘ING ME ON INSTAGRAM ISN’T GOING TO FIX THE FACT THAT YOU DIDN’T ASK PERMISSION
THIS GOES FOR TRANSLATIONS. I UNDERSTAND WANTING TO MAKE A COMIC MORE ACCESSIBLE TO YOUR LANGUAGE, BUT IT’S STILL A CONCERN THAT IT WILL GET STOLEN FROM YOU (and I KNOW some people don’t ACTUALLY care about it being more accessible, because I’ve asked people to reblog my original post with a translated transcription and they threw a fit because they obviously just wanted the views for their own page)
Comic dubbers are also not exempt from needing to ask for permission. I know there’s a lot of editing and you are technically producing new content, but jfc you still need to ASK TO USE SOMEONE’S ART. ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE MONETIZING YOUR PAGE.
I also DO NOT CARE if your pinterest page is “just for your personal reference” STOP UPLOADING ARTWORK AS ORIGINAL POSTS. IF YOU MUST PIN ART, JUST POST THE LINK!!!! I die a little inside every time someone says they saw one of my comics on pinterest and had a hard time finding my actual post.
Why is it important that artists stay credited? Well, I for one, am about to start my junior year of my BFA, and I won’t be able to work my part-time job anymore. My art is going to be only source of income. Every time someone reposts my art without credit, that’s more people that won’t find the link to my store. That’s potential job recruiters that won’t find my portfolio. That’s work that I’ve done that someone else is getting activity for, potentially even making money off of.
Please, PLEASE be aware of art theft. Point it out when you see it. Please understand most artists see it as offensive and disrespectful and are not flattered by it.
