the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.

So the soft Spock would be like the Spock from Naked Time and the hard Spock would be like the one from Mirror Mirror, there is something of a pirate in our Spock after all 🤭. I love the idea that they both love Jim in their own way.

What do you think the two halves of Spock would have been like if he had been split like Jim with the transporter?

I think there's more than one way to go about it. The boring way, which also runs the risk of being a bit racist or bioessentialist, is to just split his Vulcan and Human halves. I've seen it done well before, but to me, Spock is, quintessentially, both. So, instead, we're going to split him a bit more like how Kirk got split - soft and hard.

The 'soft' Spock (I don't much like the word soft, but it seems better than saying 'good' vs 'evil', because that's not what I'm going for) would be much more sensitive and compassionate. He'd also be much more unwilling to sacrifice people for the good of others. He's an idealist, who will under no circumstances advocate for harm or death. He will hope for the best in everyone, even those who have done the opposite of earn it. Basically, he's trusting to the point of danger. Even if he knows a person will likely betray him, he'll give them the benefit of the doubt. And, I suspect, if he's in an area where two of his convictions are clashing, he'll freeze, unable to decide which is more important. (For example, when the Horta was near Kirk - in canon, he decides Jim is more important to him than preserving the Horta's life for the sake of science, and he tells Kirk to kill it. If he were split, he may panic (vulcanly. a vulcanly panic), but wouldn't be able to decide - save Kirk? Save the Horta? He'd be paralyzed.) He also might cry at poetry.

The 'hard' Spock, on the other hand, would be pragmatic about things. If there were decisions to be made, he'd act cold in the way that a Star Trek racist might expect a Vulcan to. He could kill, if he needed to, and would kill without question to save Kirk. The other Spock can't balance his priorities, but this one might go too far the other way, and sacrifice his beliefs for the good of the Enterprise. He'd run the Science department like a dictator because he'd want the best out of them. He'd be okay with being feared by his underlings if it meant that they were doing well. I think he'd end up a little like those 'guard dog' characters, where Spock would make himself take up the mantle of ruthlessness towards enemies if he thought that Kirk needed him to. He still values life, he doesn't want to kill, but he'd much rather have the Enterprise safe, and he will take no chances.

in a way, it's hippie spock vs soldier spock. both of them have Spock's clash of logic and emotion, but they take it very different directions. 'Soft' spock's emotions get directed outward, encompassing everything around him and choking out his agency, while 'hard' spock's get directed inward, encompassing his own wants and desires and choking out his compassion.

obviously, this isn't the only way to do it (or even the best), but, y'know. it's some thoughts on the matter.

The news didn't say much about what happened to Tsukasa Tenma at first. His fate remained unknown for hours.

Rui was blissfully unaware until he began to hear whisperings of what happened around the city. He had been trying to move on. Per Nene's advice, he strictly avoided watching Tsukasa's idol concerts. He allowed her to keep tabs on Tsukasa's status while he took care of other idols' business. Thus, he didn't find out the news until it was too late.

The news of idol's untimely demise was lit up right in front of him, on the LED screen at the city square.

Rui always considered himself someone difficult to cry. But for some reason, the tears wouldn't halt..

managed to finish another decent ish piece so here's narinder's inutial design!! as always probably will change later

we're living by furry laws in this house so "head fur" aka hair is an option and im using it. period. another unpopular(??) choice is giving narinder a fur pattern, and don't get me wrong i love the pure black void nari, but as an artist i enjoy making up details to draw, so i indulged myself here. (but if i ever were to draw comics with him i would simplify it or just make him all-black, because repeating this every frame is a misery. fun for a one-off ref sheet tho)

not a lot of lore stuff for the guy since the idea of the au is still fresh and im figuring it all out, but there're design inspirations under the cut if you're interested!!

i wanted narinder to have that dramatic sharp featured og cartoon villain look, so i took inspiration from oriental longhairs for the facial structure and from maine coons for fluffy dramatics. also i just love using maine coons as cat references. look at those things. marvellous.

from the very start (pretty much) my brain was consistently giving me images of narinder with hair, specifically dark long-ish straight-ish, so i tried to walk this mental image backwards to find the origins of it, and i think scar and ozai are my best bets. in my first sketches narinder had shoulder length hair with slight waves, but in the end i opted for long and straight. not really a reason to, just was vibing better to me

clothes are pretty standard narinder robes i think. i find it funny that fandom unanimously gave him basically a priest outfit, and i like it too, so i kept it. that red stripe gave me a little bit of a headache though, couldn't get it to look okay and not weird or tacky. i think i managed. i had to contain my urge to design him an intricate outfit with different textiles and embroidery and shit, but i try to keep it at least somewhat tied to logic and the au, and let's say that no-one was willing to do something this elaborate for narinder for quite some time

• narinder is declawed (after his defeat that is).

see the narinder's claw relic and the whole do no evil motive. the most evil narinder directly did was the injures he inflicted on his siblings, and he did it by, quoting shamura, "such sharp claws". so yeah, that tracks. funfact i considered taking only one of his claws, from the left ring finger, because the relic is "narinder's claw" singular, but "callamar's ear" relic is also one ear and not two, so it didn't feel kike a good enough basis to take only one claw yk. so sorry big cat, all your claws are now gone

• lamb did kill narinder after defeating him. there's nothing on the pic that's tied to that fact, just thought it would be interesting to know
