FERAL: hmmm hmmm excellent start! oooohghhhhh “maybe” that scratches my brain. i love this. i love this. i looooove this song it’s SO GOOD. aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAA. oooooh the bridge. i love the bridge. i want to eat the bridge.

BODY: so upbeat! uncharacteristically upbeat!! I like it!! Well, do I? I don’t like it massively, but I do like it. Okay, no, I don’t really like it. I see the appeal, maybe it’ll be better when I relisten it a few times. I like the guitars.

The Kicker: this is decent. eh. i again don’t like it all that much. I like the line “there’s a lake at the bottom of our river”. I’m not sure what it means but it speaks to me somehow. I quite like the ending of it I guess.

earth eyes: I like that this is something different. It’s only an interlude really. It is very good.

Alibi: pretty guitar opening. I have been expecting it to build up and it has not done that. I think I’ll appreciate this more on relistenings as well. It is pretty like a glass ornament is pretty, and reminds me somewhat of the blue room interlude which I adore.

4ever: awful start. this verse has no melody to it. Not A Fan. Oh never mind I do love this chorus!!! This chorus is lovely!!! Ooooh this second verse is a lot better too!! Okay, I can do this song. It’s not my favourite by any means but I accept it.

January: starts bad and thinly textured and boring, but as it builds up I’m starting to enjoy it a lot. By like 2:20 I’m enjoying it. Oh no it texture-thinned again. Alas. I feel about this one the way I feel about 19; too long, and it’s at the end of the album anyway so I almost want to not bother with it. Sorryyyy. I like the very ending though.

In Conclusion.

my favs are Lip Service, Homewrecking Era, 15, Better Kind Of Best Friend.

This album is the most emotionally destructive and personal creation, it is quite devastating. Especially 15 and Lavender Daughter.

A lot of the songs start very slow so I think I don’t like them, then they build up to a beautiful climax and fade out with just xana singing the same line repeatedly, alone, heartwrenchingly emotionally - I don’t like that lack of variety, I want more different structures and interludes and neat transitions going on. Especially since I’m not a fan of the slow fade in.

I also wish babyblue made it on, though I understand it doesn’t fit the vibes or the themes, as it is one of my favourite xana songs.

It started really strong for me, but after 15 or so, it got … not so strong.

ok so that erm impromptu birthday celebration was fun but also. maybe some of the weirdest shit thats happened 2 me in awhile im gonna have to go through it all in order. first off it was at an irish pub and my uncles friend was like. a friend of the owners and he was irish so everyone was switching between languages all the time..... then i met my uncles mom (not the same as my grandma for the record) who IMMEDIATELY went "oh my god is your liver okay?????" and i was like ????? what do u mean. she was like all those painkillers you swallowed!!!! and i thought she was referencing an incident from a couple years ago and was like oh that was a long time ago im fine now haha. turns out she was talking about sometime when she babysat me when i was a TODDLER and i guess i somehow swallowed pain meds???? and she was like. still super worried about that even though it wasnt even a dangerous amount of medicine so like. lol. but then we got to talking and she asked about what i wanna be when i grow up.. i was like ohh i dunno im mostly just trying to finish school first and foremost. then we SOMEHOW got into talking about astrophysics (subject i love very much) and she got more excited than anyone i have EVER MET about that. she was squealing and stomping her feet and clapping her hands and rushing over the table to hug me and THANKING GOD i was like ???OK!!!!!!!!!??. and she leaned over to her friend and whispered, completely serious, "we need to bring her to the woods. satima, dont you think we need to bring her with us to the woods???" and Erm i guess it turns out they have hippie ass drum sessions in the woods and im apparently invited. she went on a whole spiel about how i needed to open my third eye like completely fully serious too. "your brain and intellect has invaded your third eye, you need to learn how to balance them..... here have some more wine btw". on the way back i found a dead mouse on the ground and then it turned out it WASNT DEAD and was STILL MOVING but seemingly near death and everyone gathered around and was like ohhh it feels so horrible to just leave him to die slowly like this :( and i was like. well does anyone have like a big rock or something then. i scooped it up in some box i found on the ground and moved it to the side of the road and this drunk ass irishman started talking about all the various animals thatd bitten him and how he was lucky to be alive after having been bitten by a rat. i was like. ok big pat (his name. also everything we ordered literally went to his tab, it was unreal) im sorry to hear about all your animal mishaps. he just went "ahhh they dont mean to bite ya they get scared but you shouldnt touch em" like yeah bro way ahead of you 👍. anyway this is a long ass post but everyone was SO WEIRD it was funny to watch. oh and by the way my uncles mom (the shaman lady because she apparently also works as a shaman) told a story about how she got in trouble while babysittig me once to the point where HER DAUGHTER had to scold her because she BIT MY HANDS. as she talked about it she was holding my hands and was like i just couldnt help myself they were so small and cute ^__^ i just wanted to GOBBLE THEM UP!!!!! at which point she brought my hands to her mouth and imitated gnawing sounds. like. ok so um. this lady BIT ME when i was a baby.....? and now she wants to bring me to the woods so i can open my third eye...??????? shes sami btw but she seems to be Erm sort of all over the place in terms of culture and religion. lmfao. annnnnd now im going 2 bed Bye 4ever

Q: That’s a great answer, actually. So, the video for “Bodysnatchers 4Ever” is due out I guess today – can you tell us anything about it? (Writer’s note: At press time, the video had not yet been released to the public.)

F: Yeah! Well, really, it keeps in the style with doing everything ourselves. It orignally started as: I wanted to make a film that would go along with the record, so I went to my friend, Dane Castoro. He kind of blows me away with his talent in editing and directing - he makes short films on his own. So, we got together in my basement and backyard and started to come up with concepts for the movie. Because of time constraints and just lack of…coincidences, I think, we couldn’t finish the movie in time for the record to come out.

So, what I did was, I kinda cut out pieces from the twenty minute film and did a video out of it – so it’s highly edited. I think the storyline is very blurred right now, but hopefully in maybe another time we can finish the film and the story will actually be seen – but it’s really just a nightmare sequence. There were four people really involved – me, Dane, his girlfriend and another friend, and we just kinda sat around and filmed stuff. I’m really happy with the way it came out – it took a long time to edit it and do a lot of stuff and post. We really wanted to go for this feel where these tapes were found and let the viewer kinda interpret things about it. I’m really proud of it – I’ve never directed anything; I’ve never done anything with films before, and I’ve always wanted to. But this is my first attempt at it, so I hope it works out.

Q: Was it a weird shift to make for you or did you like totally embrace it?

F: Well, the technical side was the problem, and that’s where Dane came in so amazingly. I didn’t know shit about how to film or how to edit things; I used all his knowledge for that – that made it a lot easier.

Q: Mm hm – I’ve seen the sneak peak; it’s really interesting. It reminds me of an old-time silent movie; it’s a really cool effect.

F: Yeah, that’s what we were kinda going for.

Q: It’s awesome. What's the symbolism, by the way, behind you always being the one killed in the press photos?

F: (laughing) Well, I told Epitaph I didn’t want do press photos where my face was being seen so much – there were a few got out there that kinda weren’t supposed to be released. But I said that I would only show my face if I could have it smashed. So that was kind of the idea that me and Jamie came up with.

Q: (laughing) Oh, that’s awesome! So, you've listed the lyrics to "Leviathan" as EVP - so you're saying it was written by the dead?

F: Um, it’s more of a lend to channeling things that are around you and being almost a medium for that – and also having a breakdown as well. There’s a small sequence of lyrics that I do go back to, and they are kind of set, but for the most part, I like it to change every time. It’ll change depending on, based on everything – where I am at that point in time, what happened in my day; it’s just an open-ended thing, where I’m feeling things inside and channeling that.

Q: Ah, that’s interesting, so basically no one’s ever hearing the same song twice.

F: Right.

Q: That’s cool. Um, most hardcore band moment you've witnessed so far?

F: Hm, oh man…

Q: Come on, you have to have a good story!

F: It’s really, I mean, to me, the most hardcore moments are doing it – like traveling with no means…(chuckles) This is one of my favorite experiences: we had a show up on Long Island – this wasn’t with LeATHERMØUTH, this was with another band I was in – our van broke down just in the middle of the LIE and we had to push it to the side. So, it was either get it towed home – because we had like two miles left on one person’s AAA card – or get it towed to the show and then just figure it out. So we towed it to the show, played the show – and not all of us could fit in the tow truck, so some of us had to hide in the back of the van with the equipment. So we kind of hung out inside until the thing came, and I think we got home at like 10:00 in the morning, because he cops had to…I don’t know, we had to like finagle something to get home. To me, that was the biggest hardcore moment.

Q: (laughing) That’s definitely hardcore – that’s like trying to sneak out of another country illegally!

F: Yeah, you do or die!

Q: I guess anybody that went to that show had to go “Look what these people did just to get here, I mean, come on!”

F: (laughing) Yeah, that was a kind of funny moment, when the broken-down van pulls up behind this like sirened tow truck and then it gets lowered – we’ve gotta get out of the tow truck – and as soon the tow truck leaves, you kind of sneak the guys out of the back that weren’t supposed to be in the back with the equipment, so…

Q: (laughing) I’m not here, I’m just walking behind this amp!

F: Exactly!

Q: You've done lot of shows now already, with this band – what’s your favorite moment so far?

F: I like it when people obviously don’t get it, and are visibly annoyed (we both laugh) – those are some of my favorite moments. But, we’ve been fortunate enough that a lot of people are really enjoying it, and have been coming out; whether it’s from myspace or just hearing the record.

Q: They’re singing along, so you’ve got good fans.

F: That’s a real inspiring moment, when people are singing your words back to you. I’ve been lucky enough to experience that a couple of times, and it’s really some of the best feelings I’ve ever had.

Q: That’s gotta be incredible! Um, I actually have a few more: what I wanted to ask you is: you’re touring with a different lineup than you recorded with; was that a smooth adjustment to make?

F: Um yes, but it also wasn’t really that bad – I mean with the original lineup, we’d only really played like two or three shows, and that was spread out over at least six months. And the only reason for that was that our schedules just weren’t really working together. When I would come home from tour, someone’d be like “Oh, there’s a show, do you wanna play?” I mean, there was no real demand I guess for a tour or anything at that time, because we didn’t really have any songs yet, so both shows we played were really only like six or seven song sets. So it was just getting our feet into the water, and then when the touring lineup came together, that’s when we really started to play and get together like all the songs we had.

Q: That’s gotta be incredible! Um, I actually have a few more: what I wanted to ask you is: you’re touring with a different lineup than you recorded with; was that a smooth adjustment to make?

Q: Yeah, that first show was sort of sprung on you last minute, wasn’t it, if I remember correctly? It was a last minute decision, like “Hey, can you be here in two days?”

F: Mm hm, exactly. We did like a CMJ show. We hadn’t planned on playing a show or anything, I was just like “Oh hey, I’m in town this week.” There was an opening spot on the showcase, and I got the call. I was like “Alright, let’s see if everybody can do it” and we did it.

Q: Yeah, you pulled it out – you have to roll with it sometimes.

F: Yeah, that’s the fun of the band, and also the fun behind the record – even recording some of these songs – have the sense of urgency that you get; you have that first take and you just put it out there. I think that with the recorded aspect of this band, it needed to be that way. If it was overproduced or even thought about beyond a couple of takes, it wouldn’t be the same.

Q: Yeah, you’re right – I actually was reading a little from the people that had been following this band since the beginning, and they were hoping that it wasn’t going to deviate too far from the demos; they liked that they were dirty.

F: Right, and I think that really encompasses the band –to hear it in any other way, I don’t think it would be as special.

Q: Yeah, it has to be sort of seat-of-your-pants.

pairing: tom holland x fem!reader

summary: in which you are at a wedding for your friend and see tom, your ex of almost two years. unsurprisingly, things are completely awkward between the two of you. that is until some alcohol has you both saying and doing things that might have been better left unsaid

warnings: explicit language, drunkenness, angst, a lot of sexual tension

author’s note: i’m currently working on something else tom related that is taking sooo long to finish because of how long it is (over 4k words right now and will probably be at least 6k…..) but i wanted to post something (because its actually been 4ever since i have) so i put this together and i actually like how it turned out and anyway i hope you all enjoy it too!

You had only been to two weddings in your lifetime, for your aunt and then your cousin, but you already knew that Talia’s wedding was your favorite one by far. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, taking place in a stunning rose garden, and it was on the smaller side with only about fifty people.

At first, you loved that it was fewer people because that made it much less overwhelming to interact with others. But when the small number of people actually made it much easier for you to spot one person in particular, someone that you did not really want to see, you wished that there were hundreds of more people at the wedding to keep you hidden.

You were actually completely unfazed to see Tom there, but that didn’t mean you still didn’t feel uneasy about seeing him. Talia had been his friend first, and you met her through him, quickly becoming friends with her. And even once your relationship with Tom ended, you and she stayed close with one another.

Your plan was to avoid Tom the entire time. However, unfortunately, when you spotted him, he also saw you, so you reluctantly waved instead of blatantly disregarding him, and he took that as a sign to come over to you.

The entire interaction was awkward, and you hated every moment of it; the quietly said hellos and share of some simple small talk. Luckily, though, your friend Charlie was there during the short conversation too, so he was able to curb some of the awkward tension, and it made things not feel completely horrible.

The last time you and Tom had seen each other in person was when you broke up almost two years ago, so it actually didn't really surprise you how weird things felt at that moment.

Now you and Charlie were at the reception, which was in a different part of the garden. And aside from the awkward moment with Tom, which happened before the wedding even started, you were actually having a pretty great time. You were slightly tipsy due to having drunk five glasses of champagne, and you were able to make pretty fast friends with the people that were at your table because of how nice they were.

"Hey, I'm gonna go to the bathroom real quick," You told Charlie, who was engrossed in a conversation with one of the guys at the table; they were talking about this new band that you did not know about.

Charlie nodded his head at your statement. "Okay, don't fall in."

"Ew," You grimaced at the thought and then began making your way to the bathroom, which was inside the large house that the garden was a part of.

As you walked through the expansive and elegantly decorated hallway toward the bathroom, you almost immediately crashed right into someone. You blamed half of the collision happening on your slight tipsiness and the other half on you being so interested in the paintings that took up the walls of the entire hallway.

"Hey, shit, sorry about that…” You looked up at the person in front of you, who had their hands on your upper arms to steady you from falling. When you saw who the person was, easily recognizing him, the rest of the words you were about to say died in your throat.

"No, it was probably more of my fault," Tom responded and laughed a bit. You were quick to notice that he was at least somewhat drunk as well because of how flushed his cheeks were. "Also, I didn't get to tell you earlier, but you look great, Y/N."

You smiled sheepishly and briefly looked down at your outfit, which was a strapless emerald green floor-length dress. "Thanks. You look very nice too. And I also would've told you that earlier, but it was so fucking awkward."

Tom laughed again. "You're very right about that. I wish it wasn't."

"Me too," You stated honestly. "We used to be really good friends, and then our relationship went to shit, and so did our friendship."

"We could still be friends."

He said it so simply and made it sound like such an easy thing to do. Of course, you knew that it actually couldn’t be that easy.

You were quiet for a few moments and then ultimately shook your head at Tom’s words. "Not really. Not with the way things ended with us."

You remembered the long argument the two of you had way too well; it almost felt as if it had happened yesterday instead of nearly two years ago. It had been the eruption of everything that the both of you built up for months on end. Somehow the resentment, anger, and sadness that you both had been silently harboring managed to come out all at once and led to the solidified end of your relationship. For the most part, you believed that it was meant to happen since the two of you had been drifting away from each other for a while anyway. But, sometimes, you did regret letting it end like that.

"But I do really miss talking to you," You said softly and sighed. You knew for a fact that if you didn't have five glasses of champagne coursing through your body and slightly impairing your mind, you wouldn't have said any of that. Actually, things with Tom right then probably would have still felt so damn awkward and much less comfortable.

"I really miss you too," Tom’s voice was soft as he talked as well.

You could feel your heart involuntarily flutter at his soft-spoken statement. You both hated and loved how easily you were able to fall back into love with him, in a sense. It was so easy to think about all of the good times the two of you had instead of the bad, especially in the slightly intoxicated state you were in.

“Who’s the guy you’re here with?” Tom asked abruptly.

“Is someone jealous?” You asked with a slight smirk playing on your lips. There was a playfulness in your voice that you knew would not have been there if you were any hint of sober.

In fact, you knew you wouldn’t have been having this conversation with Tom if you were sober.

“Just… curious,” Tom responded and shrugged lightly.

“His name is Charlie,” You answered and paused for a beat before you said the words that you knew Tom wanted to hear. “He’s just a friend.”

Tom nodded, and you could see the tiniest hint of a smile on his face. “Okay.”

It was then that you both noticed how dangerously close you were to each other, and you took a brief note of how nice it felt to be that close again. You also noticed how easy it would be for the two of you to kiss, and you could feel yourself smiling at the thought of pursuing that idea.

“I think I really want to kiss you right now,” You admitted and closed your eyes as you said your soft-spoken statement.

“That wouldn’t be a good idea,” Were the words you heard fall from Tom’s lips, but you could feel his presence moving closer to you.

You opened your eyes again and met his gaze once more. You felt yourself drift closer toward him as well. “I know.”

No other words were said, but with the way the two of you were looking at each other, it was like a thousand things were silently being spoken at once.

Your arms circled around Tom’s neck and brought him even closer to you, which he smiled at, but neither of you decided to pull the trigger just yet.

“We really shouldn’t,” You whispered, feeling Tom’s hands find their way to your waist. The feeling of his hands on you, even in such a minor way, was so familiar, and you could almost feel yourself melting into his touch.

“You’re completely right,” Tom responded as he leaned in, his lips briefly ghosting over yours before pulling back and meeting your eyes again.

It was almost like neither of you wanted to be the first to initiate something more intense than just the teasing behavior that was going on right then. It was like a game of “who will break first?” that you were unsure of how it would end since you knew that your mind would soon catch up to your current actions and begin screaming at you, telling you how bad this all was.

“So I should probably leave right now,” You said, looking straight into Tom’s brown eyes.

“Exactly.”

You did the complete opposite, though. Instead, you finally closed the miniscule distance of space between you two and pressed your lips against his.

At first, it felt familiar and comforting, and you couldn’t help but sigh in contentment as you felt Tom’s arms circle farther around you and hold you tighter. You didn’t even care that you lost the unspoken game between you both.

Your heart swelled at finally being this close to Tom again, and you tried to figure out how you managed to live for the past two years without doing this. The thought made you kiss him harder, and Tom didn’t hesitate to return the intensity.

It wasn’t until your mind finally caught up with what you were doing that you felt yourself pushing him away.

In the heat of the moment, it all felt good and right, but you knew that in the long run, the sustainment of that feeling was entirely impossible. There was way too much history between you both, an overwhelming amount of it heartwrenching, that you couldn’t help but remind yourself of.

“You were right,” You said, completely avoiding eye contact with him. “This wasn’t a good idea.”

“Y/N–”

“Don’t,” You shook your head quickly. “Please.”

Instead of waiting for him to say anything else, you walked away, ignoring his soft calls of your name behind you.

Things between you and him were over, and had been for a long time, and you continued to tell yourself that it needed to stay that way. You could not allow that abrupt and momentary relapse in judgment to change anything.

You knew you’d just end up hurting again in the end if you did.

I just stumbled upon your twitter, and heard you mention that you no longer like Star vs. the Forces of Evil which was sad to hear. Looking back, to you regret watching the show in the first place?

No? Maybe? It’s complicated. While the good times I’ve had and the art I’ve created because of Stvfoe is priceless, I wish I had known that the fandom was toxic before actually getting into the show(which itself is far from perfect).

I wasn’t really active in the fandom but I have seen lots of talented artists being harassed because of their otps and it was heartbreaking. Making callout posts and deactivating blogs because of haters, storyboard artists working on the show getting death threats just because people were mad about their fave ship not getting a chance, people rudely commenting “starco 4ever” and hate messages towards gay ships under beautiful artworks, the fandom was horrible.

Many of the fans were transphobic(not to mention homophobic, see above) too. It has been constantly implied that Marco was trans(not canon. However the trans dress from that one storyboard, boy princess, etc.) but some fans just could not stand it.

The main characters got weird as the show went on, while all the other side characters slowly became forgotten.

I think Star never really grew up. Sure, 14~15 year olds can(and is allowed to!) be immature and a little bit self-centered, they’re kids after all, but. It was too much for a show that was already suffering from its fandom and ship war.

Marco? Love his friendship/bromance with Tom, don’t really have something else to say about him. His VA, on the other hand, is a really shitty guy that said shit about other ships and therefore disrespected his fans.

Janna is a PERV change my mind. She also has little to no character development, which is fine as a side character but since season 4 she turned into one of the main characters… also love her design.

Tom was one of my favorite characters throughout the show. Sure he started as a problematic ex and ended as a better one(and a good friend to Marco), but he’s come so far. I’m still proud of him :,3

Jackie is the only character without any shortcomings in my opinion. She’s an angel and whoever bitches about her in front of me will be punched in the face.

If you want my opinions about other characters send asks! After all I used to love Svtfoe.

Etc etc. sooo I feel very bittersweet(or just bitter lol) about Svtfoe. But I don’t regret watching Svtfoe in the first place, this show did help me go through hard times.

You’ve all been asking for it, so here it is!

This will be (edit: HELLA) long and obviously spoiler-y, so everything is under a cut.

Are you ready?

Before we get to it, I want to mention that for the sake of keeping things organized, I will NOT be talking about my AU (@ask-whitepearl-and-steven) in this post. I want to just analyze the show as a viewer and a fan first. I’ll make a seperate post for AU-thoughts a bit later.

Without further ado:

EP 1: LITTLE HOMESCHOOL

This is a great way to open up the episode and show the changes through the lens of someone who has been a bit out of it for a while (we are all Cherry Quartz, fresh from the hiatus, aren’t we?) but I’m sorry, this post still takes the cake:

Okay, okay, back to the program.

“That used to be a loaded question...“

Right off the bat, Steven is SO much more confident about saying that he’s... HIMSELF! What a good feeling. I’m very proud of our boy.

I love the name “Gemglyph” for the gem language! I’ll need to know who wrote these, though. And who the heck drew the diamonds? Hopefully it was BP.

And I’m not the first one to point this out, but MORE ANIME REFERENCES!

Which can be seen as either a reference to the Chill Low-Fi Hiphop Beats to Study To OR Whisper of the Heart.

And absolutely no one cares but something that caught my eye is the fact that they have an EARTH FLAG at Little Homeschool! How cool is that!

Earth 4ever!!!

Off-note - I love how INVESTED they are in this conversation Pearl is having with Holo-Pearl.

Peak entertainment.

I love Professor Amethyst and I love the random human who snuck in to apparently take lessons on Not Giving A Single Shit About Anything, Ever.

SO DRAMATIC, I LOVE HER.

This is literally SO funny like she... she was just... laying on top of her house... under a blanket..... FOr WHAT? To stand up dramatically and throw it off when Steven inevitably paid a visit?

Is that just what she dOES?

“It’s FINE I don’t need any HELP, I’m FUNCTIONING, I’m just having a SELF CARE DAY OK”

Also I’m sorry but

Jasper: “It took forever to yank those puny green earthlings out of the ground.”

Steven: “You mean grass...?“

THIS. RIGHT HERE. is peak Jasper.

It’s also curious how INVESTED Steven is in this:

“I’m TRYING to give you [a purpose]!“

Why are you... trying to do that, though? Isn’t the whole idea for gems to surpass their ‘purpose’ and just kinda... do whatever? Isn’t Jasper just kinda... doing whatever?

I mean, sure, it’s not useful to anyone, but she seems relatively happy. Aside from. You know. The whole laying on rocks under blankets until she’s disturbed thing and-- okay, you’re right, maybe an intervention would be healthy.

I’m not gonna talk at length about the rest of the episode - although I think it’s really good, I don’t know what I can say about it that hasn’t already been said. Jasper is definitely poking Steven’s buttons and rephrasing a LOT of what WHITE has said to Pink: “You surround yourself with inferior gems because it makes you feel better.”

And Steven REACTS to this. The taunt WORKS.

And yes, he gains some extra powers for it, but something tells me this AIN’T the only thing he will get. It feels like a two-edged sword. Like it’ll be his own downfall somehow....... maybe at the end of the series.

Ashes to ashes.... hole to hole.

And oh wow I thought they were gonna bond but LMAO

“Consider your fight back there your first and ONLY lesson.“

Basically:

EP 2: GUIDANCE

I LOVE YOU AMETHYST.

sHE’S doing SO much and she’s SO good at it!! Look at her!! Organizing stuff!!!!

RUBIES IN SUNGLASSES. IN SQUARE SUNGLASSES.

I need 20.

And I also need 20 of Larimar because holy shit that’s hilarious.

Larimar: “I want to hear the human screams forever.”

Steven: “Okay that’s kinda troubling.”

I love the reference to Monsters Inc here and I love the callback at the end of the episode when Larimar switches to Human Laughter to get her fill of that particular erm... need.

And honestly the ensuing chaos is equally predictable and entertaining.

I’m SO glad to know that Rubies are just... Like That and that actually Navy is not a deviation from the norm but rather a different flavor of the chaotic energy all Rubies naturally seem to possess.

Amethyst is also super relatable:

“Ah yes, the fool comes crawling back. Come to beg for forgiveness, have you?”

In fact, the episode’s WHOLe HUMOUR is just very much My Brand

“Sometimes you save all the people but the rollercoaster still crashes into the ocean...... and that’s okay.”

Including the Running Gag that is Onion. Who... does not appear to have aged. At all. And that’s okay.

EP 3: ROSE BUDS

Okay where do I even begin with this one. Um.

I have to openly admit that I spent the majority of this episode wheezing with laughter. Let’s start with the Zoomans:

Who are CLEARLY STILL SUPER SALTY AT GREG ABOUT REJECTING THEM??? Which is hilarious.

And also this paradise is fascinating in and of itself.

But the next scene is basically where I started losing my shit.

Okay, okay, alright so. Uh. I have... a few questions.

Like Why. WHY. Does she look. SO MUCH like Rose?

Clearly Rose Quartz differ in coloring and etc. But She literally looks. Like THE Rose. VERY explicitly.

So here’s several options here:

1) Pink made Rose Quartz way before any of the Rebellion happened and Pearl just basically pigeonholed her into THIS specific Rose Quartz appearance because she (???) had a crush? Or somehow saw this specific Rose, thought ‘hot, i can make my sympathetic Diamond wear this exact costume and that would be EXCELLENT fanservice for ME’

2) Pink didn’t have any Rose Quartz until the Rebellion, and thereafter quickly decided ‘I need these gems as an alibi, so we’re just gonna make them” and she and Pearl basically inclubated Rose Quartz like a pokemon trainer hatching for a Shiny until they got one that looked Exactly Like That.

3) There was no Thinking involved because this is Pink we’re talking about, and it was all just a huge coincidence for the sake of this Very Hilariously Uncomfortable Episode.

While we ruminate on that, let’s look at some Relatable Reactions.

And here we have the holy trinity of “I have just seen the clone of my deceased parent/parental figure/lover.”

Featuring: Bonus ‘I’m Almost Over It’ Pearl

Also, I need y’all to make this into a meme:

For example:

Anyway, alright, alright.

That relatable feel when your (hot) dead lesbian lover’s clone asks you if you’re okay after another one of the (less hot?) clones offers you a whole ass stick of butter to eat.

And then you and your friends all hide in the bathroom to talk about your feelings:

Okay, the rest of the episode gives me FEELINGS and I love how hard Steven is trying, so I’ll just close it off with:

I LOVE THEM. Unironically, they are EVERYTHING I had hoped Rose Quartz would be. They’re SO MUCH like Rose herself - did she model her personality after them? Or are they just like her because she WAS like that, and they’re made from her essence? WHO KNOWS?! They’re adorable!

And the conflict between them and Steven is honestly so gooD! I don’t know if it’s completely relatable but I’m glad they ended up talking it out.

I wonder if we’ll ever see Her again... you know who I’m talkin’ about.

Her....

I’m madly in love with Rose, ok, I don’t need a callout post. Just leave me be.

EP 4: VOLLEYBALL

Alright, alright, alright.

OKAy,.... It’s fine. It’s FINE. I’m fINE.

Confirmed: 8000 years. That’s. UH. A LOT? That puts our timelines quite a ways back. We kind of estimated as much, but still, it’s so jarring to think about. And PP is VERY casual about it.

She’s also VERY casual about the injury.

“This is all Pink Diamond!”

It doesn’t seem like it bothers her to talk about it at all. She’s not even trying to keep it a secret. So I’m almost wondering - was there a connection to her being taken by White and the injury at all or not?

She came to Steven to get healed - she clearly wants it gone. At the time she was injured, did Pink not even attempt to heal the injury?

Follow up question: If she DID care, why didn’t she try to heal it?

Follow up to the follow up: Was it because she didn’t know she could? Or did she simply not have the time to (White removed her before she could)?

When Steven goes pink, she gasps - but makes no further comment. It’s presumably because she’s seen this happen before. She doesn’t try to move away, weirdly enough - she asks him if everything is alright. Perhaps the context is too different for it to be triggering for her. Perhaps there’s more layers to it? HMMM.

What follows is, perhaps, the SALTIEST we’ve seen Pearl since Greg rolled around.

“Did you come to compete?”

This is doubly curious to me because Crewniverse has previously explicitly stated that Pearl was NOT in love with Pink Diamond. She was in love with Rose. So if this is true, why would Pearl care about her place as Pink’s Pearl? She is supposed to be past all that, isn’t she?

And yet as time goes on, the salinity grows exponentially. Alright, you two, I know you’re Pearls but tone it down with the sass.

(Also, I’m sorry but I will NEVER call her Volleyball. That’s all. Bye.)

Also it’s worth noting that... PP is clearly VERY much in love with Pink.

This is, perhaps, where the lack of a grudge plays into it. She’s completely enamoured.

Moreover, she’s VERY casual about how she talks here. This isn’t exactly how one talks of their Diamond. This is how people talk about their romantic partners. She calls Pink silly, calls her ‘funny’. That’s not exactly a term of respect - it’s way more intimate than that.

Also, did anyone else notice how, although CG Pearl’s gem is usually shaded in teal, it’s in Pink in this episode? VEEEERY subtle, Crew.

Also, we can’t quite see Pink Pearl’s expression fully here because her working eye isn’t visible, which makes it hard to get a read on things like

“I’m older than you.“ Is she just saying it casually? Or is she fully aware that she’s poking fun at CG Pearl?

HI SHELL. ISN’T IT FUNNY HOW YOUR VOICE AND YOUR NAME ARE A SUBTLE NOD TO PORTAL, WHICH IS FORESHADOWING HOW BADLY THIS IS GONNA END.

Meanwhile, Pearl continues to be in character.

“No need to be overly... attached.”

And this has nothing to do with anything but

she cute

Aaaand now it’s creepy again.

The rest of this is super important so let’s get to it:

“Oh, no. Pink did this.”

“What did you say?”

“It’s a funny story, really. Once, Pink got tired of asking Yellow and Blue for her own colony, so she went straight to White. Of course, White told her she wasn’t fit to run one... and well! That set her off.”

“Set her off? What are you talking about?”

“You remember how she was! With her destructive powers, throwing tantrums left and right! She had a scream that could crack the walls. She didn’t mean to hurt me! (giggle) I just happened to be standing too close to her that time and--”

And then Steven interrupts.

We get more CG Pearl arguing for how wrong this image of Pink is to her. What CG Pearl knew was a totally different (or, well, same, but VERY changed) Pink.

But what we have to prove our point is Steven himself. He rolls into the EXACT same state as Pink presumably did - and begins to over-use his powers.

(This isn’t the first time we have seen him use this attack.)

The reactions from the Pearls are telling - this is clearly not Pink Pearl’s first rodeo with this type of Mood.

And it’s important to note that Steven clearly didn’t direct any attack AT them. He simply yelled - and the whole dang place literally started to crack. There’s weight to the argument that possibly, Pink really DIDN’T mean to hurt her Pearl - that she was just collateral damage.

Which doesn’t make it any better, obviously. Even if Pink had no direct intention of hurting her Pearl (and there are theories that Pink purposefully hit or threw Pink Pearl or somehow physically acted directly to damage her, which I was skeptical of) the result of it is still the same.

If you raise your voice and yell, even if you’re just yelling because YOU are hurt/have feelings, you might still hurt the people around you. If you throw a tantrum, even if your direct goal was just to let off some steam without aiming to harm anyone, whoever gets in your way is still the victim.

And this is all very much On Brand for Pink’s timeline as we know it. We already knew this about her - we KNEW she tended to throw tantrums (like in the flashback on Jungle Moon) and that she was childish. The fact that she accidentally hurt her Pearl in the process because she had no self-control at that period in her life comes as no surprise.

(Although it’s important to mention that perhaps hurting her own Pearl WAS the breaking point during which she finally realized how her emotional outbursts could have negative consequences on those around her.)

And this is a very beautiful message - even if Pink Pearl still doesn’t want to blame Pink for what was done to her (”But... she didn’t mean to!”) Pearl brings the point of it back around to her (”But you were still hurt!”) The point isn’t the person who did the hurting - the focus is on the victim and how they were affected.

And the rest, I daresay, is history.

I like the fact that they managed to still bring it back around to the main message:

It isn’t about just “Pink was bad”. It’s about how she did bad things. And there were multiple sides to her - multiple stages. And the Pearls who knew her knew different sides of her - the side that didn’t know how to be a good person, who was selfish and childish and unrestrained... and the side that was, arguable, too restrained. Who hated her own past, her own character and her own mistakes so much that she would rather bury them and keep secrets from everyone.

And neither of those things were good, and neither were healthy, but they are a GREAT contrast to a GREAT character arc that is, arguably, still being unearthed. And we have so much more context for it all now.

I, for one, can’t wait to see and discover more of Pink through Pink Pearl - no matter how ugly that side of her might be. I think it gives great perspective to her later growth.

And if you ship the Pearls.. .well, I get why.

Personally I’m not interested in it that way. Call me unromantic - I don’t think their relationship NEEDS to be shippy in order to be satisfyingly deep. I love the idea of them having a deep bond over this - a shared past, a shared experience, and gaining confidence through one another.

JUNO

First impression: i, like a lot of people who get into the podcast without knowing a great deal about it, was expecting at most an ambiguously bisexual angst machine with a closely-guarded heart of gold. juno being an explicitly bisexual genderqueer angst machine is perhaps the most pleasant surprise of my life. the angst machine heart of gold characters were kind of my type at the time, so i loved him right away

Impression now: every time i think about juno’s arc from depressed mess held together by bad coping mechanisms, safety pins, and a few good strong puns into someone who can talk about his feelings, feel comfortable about being happy, and recognise when he needs to change, i want to cry about it a little bit. the depth of my love for juno steel has only grown along with him

Favourite moment: juno has a lot of great one-liners and i’m still a big fan of the “on the other hand i wasn’t wearing a watch” bit and who can forget such classics as juno finally deciding to stop moping over nureyev and move on only for him to open the door to his apartment and find nureyev sitting in the dark dramatically, but honestly nothing will ever hit me harder than his sudden, pissed-off declaration of “i can’t die yet, i still have shit to do!” in promised land. god.

Idea for a story: oh i have so many and i want to write most of them so no spoilers, but juno accidentally kidnaps a baby during a carte blanche heist and shenanigans ensue

Unpopular opinion: obviously we all know he’s dummy thicc but i feel like a lot of people forget he’s an actual genius, like the stuff he notices and how he strings it together is sometimes so obscure and he’s almost always right. oh, also juno is not skinny and i will not be taking criticism on that

Favourite relationship: this is so tough because every dynamic is so good, but i think it has to be juno and rita. those two are so good! the best best friends in the world!! i’m really a sucker for any dynamic that’s ridiculously in-sync so i loved these two as soon as juno saw rita’s notes in prince of mars and went “makes perfect sense to me” (which it probably didn’t, because rita, but he trusted that she knew what she was doing which is the important part)

Favourite headcanon: this isn’t really a headcanon but i still think about how juno is (was?) deathly afraid of heights but when he heard rex glass coming he still attempted to climb out of the window. either his aversion to working with dark matters/other people in general was so strong is overrided his fear, or his office was actually on the ground floor. not sure which of these is funnier.

NUREYEV

First impression: we’ve all seen the memes about nureyev knowing juno steel for one (1) day and deciding to Risk It All by leaving him with his name, look at this Hopeless Romantic, this utter DISASTER of a homosexual. the fact the very next time we hear from nureyev (at least directly) he’s patiently waiting in juno’s dark apartment to surprise him with a heist definitely supports this image.

Impression now: even after literally being inside peter’s head, i feel like we didn’t get a real sense of who he is until man in glass, where we find out he aggressively compartmentalises everything that causes him stress. he’s also distinctly someone who’s had his heart broken before, i think, which makes those first appearances of his very strange. but it does remind me of what juno says about diamond, and how he decided to provide the trust first and wait for the trustworthiness to grow in (only to get severely hurt), and i think that’s exactly what nureyev did. i am also... very uneasy with how suspicious he’s behaving this season because obviously i want to believe he’ll sort it all out and not betray the crew but... oof

Favourite relationship: once again, although buddy and vespa invented romantic love, i just love the dynamic between vespa and juno so much. they’ve come so far with each other and their weird sibling dynamic gives me life. at the end of what lies beyond when juno says “we’re not gonna kill her, vespa” and instead of sounding full of Rage and Suspicion she’s like “whyyy notttt?” and he’s like “because i said so!” and that’s just good enough for her even if she’s a bit grumpy about it. i love it.

-soooooo in the first ep nancy breaks into the hudsons house and finds tiffanys secret drawer w the nail polish and finds the amulet with a note that says "for your protection HG" yet on this video tiffany says she talked to a medium who gave her the amulet sooooo am i just confused? HG is hannah gruen obvi so is the address for the medium what hannah gave her? or was the address on the amulet which nancy dissolved in salt water to see? so how would tiffany know where to go? its chicken and the egg which came first hannah or the medium?

and lastly:

i close these two eps with a thought that everything in this show is sealed in death. all the lies, the imagery, the fake constructs people put up to get by all crumple the second someone dies- all the secrets come clean just like these doors have been unsealed.
