The more into rnm I get the more I return to my feral horse girl roots and it's just. Such a thing.
#i learned to ride and like...be a person at a farm owned by this really amazing guy who was known as#'the last black indian in fairfax county' and like 90% of my memories of him#are bringing the horses in or doing stupid trail riding stunts or talking to him#about like...the ways he was tsught to raise and train??#and like all the horses he taught and the horses he gave menwere my literal best trachers#and tiny feral me who didnt have a family would insist on soending all day at the barn because if you worked you got fed#and Jim's chicken was literally the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD tiny me was ovsesssed#to the point that when i stopped riding there i used to beg my mom to try and remake it for me#but like it was just weekends living and learning and working with animals and like#realizing how they think and feel and act#shadybrook was the one place ive ever felt i got to have like...that quintrssential boys will.be boys life#even if there were like SUPER problems and like..jim was a high key alcoholic and homophobic but also like...idk he was#also more my dad than anyone since and i think about the stuff he taught me a lot and just#anytime i start going back to cowboy esque stuff i think about him#and how we used to race in the back fields#i dunno anyway the more i think about michael guerin feral cowboy#the more i think about that time in my life#and just...its not even nostalgia? its just. i dont know i understood who i was when i was there and its something that the barns#ive ridden at that were owned by like your stereotypical white horse lady...there was such a glaring difference#even at the farm in delmar its just#and i know the difference is that jim literally inherited the land from his father and grandfather and used and taught the same.way he had#been taught - and that experience was so divorced of the show mentality of white horsetopia#it was so much more about the animal and what you could do and communicate with it#i miss shadybrook but mostly.i miss that level.of understanding that jim had#anyway big ramble lmao cometalk to me about feral horse days!!#personal post#jim moss#who gets his own tag because he damn well deserves to be remembered
