Spoiled and Loved
Art Donaldson x Fem!Reader
In every way, you were the person that made the college experience that much better for Art. You, on the other end, were still struggling to find your place at Uni.
Watnings: inscure reader, lost reader, small angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, reader has rich parents, one s3x joke
Tumblr media
There he was. In your usual spot in the cafeteria eating a lunch that his athletic nutritionist must've assigned him to eat. God was your boyfriend beautiful... "Baby?" He called you out of your trance and you smiled at him. "Come?" He motioned for the chair in front of him with his head. You walked toward it and sat down with your lunch that was healthy but certainly not planned. "Hey!" You said. You started eating and asking how his morning practice was and he smiled throught it all. After finishing his lunch and while explaining his morning, he drew mindless doodles on your left hand with a pencil. One was a tennis racket the other a heart and another a paint brush. Once he was done, silence had fallen and Art looked up at you, stopping his drawing. "Y/N?" Art asked while looking for your gaze. "Hmm?" You answered still looking at your left hand. "Look at me." He asked and lifted your head up with the help of his palm on your jaw. You looked at him and smiled. "How was your day so far, baby?" He then asked with certainty. You sighed and went to look down again, only to feel your boyfriend rubbing your jaw and hearing him hum no. When you met his gaze again you felt it.
The need to tell him the truth.
"Art?" He nodded at your interpellation, waiting for you to continue. "I don't think I belong here." You had felt like this for a while, but your boyfriend's joy at being here made that feeling simmer down a little.
That was until yesterday.
"That's Donaldson's girlfriend, right?" A girl said behind you during your history of the arts lecture. You normally tuned these type of conversations out, but today your ears decided that it was a mighty fine time to do as they wanted. "She play any sports?" The girl, Jenny from what you heard her friend call her earlier, proceeded to ask her friend, Luna. "Not that anybody knows of. Not to his level at least." The other girl answered with a certain turn in her voice. It wasn't a nice one at that. ""But she must do something else around campus for her to be with him, right?" Jenny continued her interrogations. "The only place other than her lectures that people see her at are Donaldson's games. She just does those two things that includes school life. People have said and know that she doesn't even have a major yet. She just does classes until she finally finds something that makes her spark. It's pathetic really." Luna said and chuckled with her friend who fired back : "Why would he want to be with her? If I were Art Donaldson-" And you never heard the last of her life hacks, because your ears decided you had been tortured enough as it was. The notes you had started taking were the only ones you took for the rest of the 3 hour lecture. Well, what was one more exam failed?
You would stay in this godforsaken place until you found a stupid major to work in life with.... Why bother studying right now? Your parents paid for your acceptance at Stanford. Your life was as corrupted as that.
"What do you mean Y/n/n?" Art asked with a concerned look and rubbed his tumb over your jaw. "I don't know what I mean by that. But that's also a problem, I never know..." you tried to explain but it was still unclear to him. He only wanted to comfort you and make you feel at ease at all times, but right now he couldn't understand you. That made him mad at himself. "I don't know what I am going to major in, I don't know why I went to college in the first place and I don't know what you find in me. Before you start to argue that point, I have to tell you that I don't doubt your love, I doubt my ability of being loved right now. I am a mess Art... I can't do it anymore! The only thing I do know, is that I'm going to end up like I always feared..." You continued to elaborate on your feelings while he was listening. "Baby... I love you for who you are. I'm sure what you feared for your future isn't even that bad-" you cut him off on that and laughed while letting some tears flow. "Oh yeah, it is. I will end up as every other rich kid who doesn't amount to nothing and will live off my family's money for my whole life." You said and removed his hand from your face. You didn't feel deserving of his touch right now. "Stop." He said sternly. How could he have left this go this far? How couldn't he have seen you were feeling like this? How bad of a boyfriend was he? "Y/n, you are not messed up. You are beautiful and intelligent and you are worth more than your family's wealth. You are important. Not only to me but to a lot of people. Listen, college isn't for everyone, baby. I know it 's easier listening than believing, but please don't pull away from me." He had tears brimming his eyes now.
What did you do to deserve him?
"I love you, Art. I'm sorry for upsetting you..." You explained and held his hand that had been squeezing the edge of the table. "Don't, baby. You do not have to appologize. I should appologize for not seeing how you had been feeling. Please... talk to me about these things. I want to be there for you like you are for me." He took your hand back in his to play with it lightly. "Okay." You said and smiled softly at him. "Okay?" He asked smiling softly too while looking into your eyes. "Yeah. I'll talk to you more about my feelings, baby." You nodded and affirmed.
As you both walked to your last class of the day that you shared, the girls of your history of the arts lecture passed you. They were looking at you and art with sadness. It was then you realized what they had been doing. Only wallowing in their jealousy because:
Art had chose you. Not them.
His heart was set on you and that made them mad. Some part of you felt like you could see them. Maybe you were loved by someone like they wanted to be, but you were also envious of how these girls would be graduating in Teaching in less than two months likw you wanted to be graduating.
Everybody was jealous of somebody in this world.
"Art?" You asked while going closer to his side. "Hmm?" He had answered when wrapping his arm around your shoulder to pull you in even closer. "I think I'm jealous of you." You confirmed while giggling. "Oh yeah? How come, y/n?" He smiled at your randomness. "You have a massive dick. I want that." You said in the most serious tone you could master in that instance. Art burst out laughing and admitted that he was jealous of you too. "How come, Art?" You copied his sentence. "Imagine being as pretty as the one and only Y/n Y/l/n under sun rays. I'll pray for that to happen one day." You looked up into his eyes and stopped walking for a second. You smiled at him and went up to kiss him on his lips. The kiss was slow and full of love, just how you prefered then to be.
"I love you, baby. Even if you are a spoiled little brat sometimes." He said and tried to cover his head before you shoved his head to the side playfully.

ᥫ᭡ f!Oc x lee heeseung ── 𝒢enre. Uni au. fluff, non idol enha. feats. ot7 [reqs are open] ᝰ.ᐟ 𝓁ibrary 🪷
⍣ ೋ AUTHORS NOTES . This is part of admins Enhypen University Special Event. This series also has slight connections to every series in said event so occasionally characters from the other members chapters may appear in this series as well. (Completely rewritten)
Tumblr media
˗ˏˋSUMMARY ´ˎ˗ Heeseung finds himself completely captivated by the campus golden girl. Perfect grades, absolute sweetheart, breathtakingly beautiful and the lead girl in every show the theater has put on thus far. Though just what he finds that he’s getting closer to her through her love of theater and performance arts, old flames and childhood friends make it harder for Heeseung to get closer to her.
TAGLIST IS CLOSED
NEVER BEEN THIS CLOSE
Usually Sakoia would be the only one remaining when it got this late. On the days after she felt like she hadn’t done her best she would always return to the auditorium to practice her lines. Though that was something she could simply do in her dorm it was an entirely distant feeling and rush that she got when she was up on that stage, whether it was for the actual show, or rehearsal the feeling wasn’t something interchangeable. The bright lights, the echo of her voice when she spoke, there was nothing that could compare to the feeling it gave her, though there was a feeling she had experienced as of late that had come close to it.
Lee Heeseung, she found him easily becoming a distraction of some sort today. From the way he delivered his lines, to the way he looked at her as if it wasn’t just a role he had been playing, he looked at her as if he really longed for her, and she couldn’t stop thinking about it.
“You’re here late.” There he was the very man which she had been thinking about at that moment, once acting interrupting her thoughts.
“Heeseung?”
“Sakoia.” He responds with that charming smile of his that just made her completely melt, she never realized just how attractive he had been until the day they hung out together.
“What are you doing here?”
“Forgot my jacket, it’s kinda important to me so I couldn’t really wait until tomorrow to come back and get it, why are you here so late?”
“Practicing..”
“Practicing still? This late? You did amazing today and you’re here working overtime, I guess I see why you easily land every role.”
“I could have done better, I was a little distracted today.” She responds, her gaze shifting away from him as he rolls up his sleeves and rests his palms against the stage. He observed her as her gaze broke away from his own down to the book of lines she held in her hand. He could have sworn that he saw a hint of adoration in her gaze, but it wouldn’t be the first time he’d imagined her giving him such a look.
“Distracted or not you still did far better than I did, forgot the line twice.” He recalls his earlier mishaps earning a laugh from her. There he was distracting her once again, but for some reason she found herself not caring. If it were any other day she’d be hyperfocused on learning her lines, she’d want zero distractions, but she was starting to realize that he was someone she didn’t mind distracting her.
“Want to practice some more..? together?” She offers, finally looking away from her book and looking over to him whose eyes had already been on her.
“Not like I have anywhere else to be.” He pushes himself up onto the stage without the slightest bit of hesitation.
“Where were you?” He asks, leaning in close to her to catch a glimpse of the book, an act he didn’t realize had affected her but it certainly had. She felt her chest tighten and her palms start to sweat the moment he drew closer. This was certainly not good for her, throughout her entire university experience so far she had never gotten this way around anyone. Mostly because she had been so focused on her work and shows that she had never even thought to give anyone that kind of attention. Yet Heeseung had somehow invaded her world and become someone she’d found herself wanting to look at as more than just the theater girl.
“The closing scene, when Emily finally jars go off Victor and realizes that they aren’t meant to be.” Her gaze shifts from his hair, scanning his every facial feature before it lands on his lips. Though Heeseung himself did not seem to realize.
“Ah starting from when the wedding right??” As he finally looked up from the book, she almost instantly looked away, it was then that he realized he hadn’t been just imagining it, she had actually been staring at him. A smile crept onto his lips and he decided to mess with her.
“You know to practice this scene you’ve got to actually be looking at me Koi.” Without a word she turns to face him, his eyes catching hers and they both stand there looking at one another. Her eyes searching for him for any gaze; for what? She didn’t know, all she knew was the longer they stood staring at one another , the more and made her stomach tie in knots.
Two months she had known Heeseung now, Two months in which the two had never been this close to one another. Though Heeseung had always been there, she would mostly give her attention to yn, chaewon and Sunoo when they hung out together. Though ever since he had auditioned she found herself discovering sides of him that she wouldn’t have back then. She was usually never the type to fall for someone so easily, so what was it about him that made him special. Every time he laughed or smiled she now found herself staring too long as if he were the only man to exist in the room.
“What are you doing to me....”
“I’ve been asking that same question about you for months now” Heeseung takes a step closer, closing the space between the tall he brushes her hair behind her ear, now getting a clear view of her face. The way she stared at him as if she had been anticipating his next move made him all the more eager to kiss her. The moment he leans in to kiss her she turns away, an act that made him wish the ground had swallowed him whole
“Practice. We should practice.”
Heeseung spent the entire night tossing and turning, he couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened between him and Sakoia, he had fucked everything up in

VeronaHills, Round Ten: Monty (Uni)
Sebastian and Viola forewent RTD's by the wineglassful in favour of study; no twin left behind in the quest for sophomore status.
In a single veer off academic course, Viola locked lips with Jacob Martin. They'd spent the afternoon together playing video games and guffawing at G A M E O V E R screens from hilarious missteps in difficult levels. It was easy to understand why aunt Bianca vouched for this guy - he was just plain fun. However, the kiss only met technical requirements and lacked a certain... spark. Viola chalked it up to being her first kiss ever, but also wondered if she was looking for the jolt of excitement that the wisp had conjured when it appeared in her bedroom; finding that feeling again would be an ethereal, impossible goal.
It would be easier to focus on the tangible pages of textbooks without such distractions in human form being on campus - or the colourful character that was Puck the faerie prince. The hills held their breath as he drew closer to the village that would be a perfect playground for history's first known university-educated plant-being! (Jacob sat next to him on the bus and emitted zero forest magnetism the entire way home).
"I would love to see a wild cockatoo," Puck said dreamily, as Riverblossom Hills rain sprinkled down his blueberry mullet.
"Hah, cock," Jacob replied.
The boys were back in town.

I wanted to ask you a couple questions about the school structure for the Veil if you can talk about it. It seems like the academy and university are fairly closely linked but do they operate basically the same as our hs/uni do? Like picking a major/trade kind of thing. I think I saw that Audric was listed as a post grad but still a trainee so is there reaper uni classes then a sort of practicum afterwards? I hope this makes sense. I’ve tried to write this ask 5 times now
So, I spent some time rooting around my files, because a long while back I drew a map of the campus grounds for the spire...but now I can't find it, so i wonder if it's one of the unfortunate victims that got jumbled when I moved to my new machine. Ah well. But yes! They're quite literally linked, since that's why I even went looking for the file. The two campuses are side by side and share certain amenities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so these are some super rough unfinished concept things from my files, but this ought to at least show the physical setup. There's a primary school within the spire as well. Somewhere in there. I haven't decided yet, not that it ultra matters, so let's just say it's somewhere in the middle. As for how they operate-- You got it already, more or less! The schools themselves are famous for their reaper program, having been founded by the same scholar who founded the organization itself. Of course, with Veil attuned students being one of the rarer attunements, the island's --uh, resources , to put it kindly, and the focused study needed to train those who would take on the veil's blight, the schools have a bounty of academic wealth to impart on hopeful magi graduates as well as those seeking to become eidolons. So there's several fields here that will gain a shining education in their field if they put in the hard work (... And, strangely enough, they have a pretty good classic lit department.) Using reapers as an example, the path would be as follows: Enrollment to secondary school and all basic curriculum classes as normal > attunement > undergrad prep courses for the reaper program if it's accepted (most do) > first stage of graduation undertakes the Eidolic Aperature (Uncap Ceremony, breaking the limits of magi's natural magic limit) > If successful, second stage will complete the full graduation ceremony and go on to university > training /studying intensifies, focusing more on study (the nature of liminal tears, wraith winds, corruptions, and the tools reapers operate) and choosing which field they will pursue in the program, while all are given a basic training course in specific magics and hunting techniques that ramps up until > completing the four year program, grad students engage in full trade training, working as the island's main service of hunters, scouts and sentries. Audric is currently in the final stage of this, hence the gossip quoting him as "Just a student, but practically the real deal." Primary school is fairly standard as can be, but it's a bit more fun to learn those classic subjects when you have the fun of enchanted textbooks and a kind, quirky siren for a teacher who plans fun aquatic fieldtrips. At least she tends to be everyone's favorite (She's also a grad level professor who works specifically with Aetherbiology majors and Reapers in their first years of university. She's one of Audric's favorite professors-- if not his top favorite.) Lichgate in general is something of an outlier for how its schools operate, though. It isn't exactly standard practice to smash them together at the very top of a spire, or to offer such an exacting focus from the moment of enrollment (on in some certain cases, attunement) until you've essentially gained your equivalent of a doctoral/masters. The location sitting right on the Veil's most unstable liminal tear is to thank for that-- and of course, even if you don't care as much about your education, it somehow manages to be the safest campus. As long as you follow the rules, obey curfew, don't wander off, and do exactly as your professors say during any off-spire excursions, especially.

Morning, spooky onesssssss!
It is 11:59am when I'm writing this.
Ok, now it 12:00pm so...
Afternoon, spooky onesssssss!
😂😂😂
I would like to start this post stating that I strongly dislike online classes. My uni campus is on strike and we had to go back to online classes which of course doesn't makes me happy.
On another note, there you have my board, in which I poorly drew a haunted house for my last class. It was a pretty funny one. One of my students gifted me a happy face ring and a Frankenstein book marker. I love that chilpallate 💕
As for my reading... I've been procrastinating reading 100 años de soledad, and it's not bc the book is bad (on the contrary, I'm really liking it), but bc my headspace have been filled with my past yet again and I can't leave it aside, I'm working on it... just hope everything turns out well.
Aaaaaaand that's all!
🫧 Have a very fucking incredible time! Smile, eat and drink water. 🫧
Hugs your way, spooky ones.
Yours truly, ZepherJ 🖤🍄

College started
I had to wake up at 6:30 for the first time in like 2 months and dug up my blazer jacket that I bought for prom and paired it with a white summer shirt, a yellow hoodie, light grey jeans and a tie I nicked from my dad and had to watch a youtube video just to figure out how to tie it. I don't know why the blazer looks grey and crumpled in the photo, in real life it's turquoise and has less noticeable creases in it. Mum now sees what I mean when I say that hoodies, ties and blazers go well together. God it got hot while walking though but it was worth it in the name of style.
Tumblr media
I also had a packed lunch for the first time as keyboard lessons were more expensive due to them being twice as long so buying hot lunches was chucked out of the budget. I made a cheese bagel sandwich with mozzarella slices and packed it in a bag with a little pancake, 4 crackers, a little brownie and a banana that I didn't eat because it had been waiting for so long that it was going brown. I didn't think about how all the food would sit so everything that wasn't in the sandwich bag (the sandwich) had a faint taste of banana. I also bought a packet of crisps at the college's cafe as I was still a bit hungry afterwards so maybe I should figure that out.
I walked 20 minutes and across a roundabout to reach my new bus stop and a new bus came every 15 minutes so I didn't bother mesmerising the timetable. Luckily I live quite close so the journey only took like 35 minutes and I was an hour early and didn't know what to do. Very few students were there and I was mostly looking for the library so I could vibe until I had A-Level Music. After a google search I found the building but turns out it's being moved to some other building (there's like 8 buildings across 2 sides of a road and it resembles a uni campus) so I just drew in the study centre by myself for about half an hour. Someone I knew (kinda) from my old school came up to me to say hello. I walked over to the building with music in but ended up a couple minutes late as I was washing my hands when the bell went off and I though "oh it's the warning bell" when no, no it wasn't. The teacher didn't seem to care considering it's the first day.
The lessons are so much longer here. So long that in the middle there was a 15 minute break. I didn't really have anywhere better to be so I remained in the classroom drawing. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on performance but I kinda suck at preforming. At least A-Level also has composition. I had to leave in the last half hour though to go to an orthodontist appointment and I left when they were talking about intervals and intervals are cool and now I have to do catch up work just because my teeth jewellery needed tightening.
I ate my lunch at a table all by myself in the student commons room and I don't know if all the groups already knew each other or if this was a case of extroverts having good social skills, but almost everyone was sitting in a group. One of the teachers talked to me when I was eating my bagel. Nothing deep just general new school small talk. He said I'll find new friends due to the way classes are structured around A-levels, which you choose yourself so there's a common interest, but tbh I'm probably just going to be known as that weird quiet kid that knows way too much on video game consoles. I don't mind not having any friends my entire time there, but when you've been stuck in an all girls private school since you were a toddler to now, it shelters you and I want to not be that as I'll have one hell of a shock once I enter the real world and/or act like a snob unintentionally. Eh, whatever. I bought the aforementioned crisps in beef flavoured and it was mostly air dammit. I then did my music homework in one of the practice rooms so I could test the musical dictation on the piano. I then just started playing whatever and some girl hovered around my door so I let her in and apparently she could hear me blasting my music because I have no dynamic control on a piano and she said that she really liked it. Then my music teacher appeared and I said I was doing my homework, and then they both left. Someone was playing some ballad piano song (I assume it's the girl as it sounds like it's coming from the other room) which would occasionally change to fur elise. Then I still had some time left but I was bored so after asking a history teacher for directions on where the mac lab is, I went into Music Technology like 10 minutes early and was just fiddling with the mac until everyone else came in. (Music tech is a BTEC which is a different exam board and is more DAW stuff while Music A-Level is performance and theory. I was supposed to be doing Computer Science but I fucked up my exam because OCR sucks the devil's ass while marking so I didn't have the qualifications so the careers people suggested music tech as the 3rd subject and oh god I'm so thankful as I'm certain my college uses OCR for it's A Levels and I would rip my wrists open and develop a caffeine addiction if I had to deal with OCR again).
The actual lesson was interesting but I was the only one putting my hand up most of the time and also I've already used a DAW before (LMMS) so I picked up on how to use Logic Pro quicker than the others (I think, idk I was sitting by myself on an empty row) but Logic Pro has cool sounds that I want in a soundfont, but is full of little things that makes it a bit annoying. And mac. Mac OS is annoying. I wasn't really following the instructions and was mostly doing my own thing in Logic Pro. Use this plugin to automatically augment a bassline? Nah I'm going to keep pressing keys with this acoustic bass sound until I get a cool bassline. I stayed for half an hour afterwards to finish the song as it was cool and this is what I did:
There was also theory stuff too. In groups we had to type out a list of places you find music and I just ignored the people in my group and wrote my own list. Also music kept randomly playing and the teacher couldn't figure out where it was coming from so I listed "the poltergeist from the mac lab" as one place music comes from. After that I took the bus home and now I'm going to watch the 2nd Deadpool film because I'm tired and don't feel like doing anything but sit in my chair and morph into it.

I shared a house with someone at uni who was doing physics and she and her friends once had a HUGE rant about why was art on the science campus and not the humanities? And I remember having this stalling moment where I thought something was so obvious that how do you even go about explaining that to someone? Like art is on the same campus as STEM because ???? That's where it belongs?????
Her end of year project was making some top trumps style cards to be used in a classroom setting. Ma'am. If you were an artist you might be doing that better ma'am.
Like, from the desk you're sat at, to the diagrams on the wall, to the labels on the bottles, to the pen in your hand. Those were designed by someone. The model of the atom, the famous wriggle of DNA, the evolution of Man.
Beatrix Potter's illustrations on how mushrooms worked are some of the most accurate pictures ever made to convey how it worked, drawn at a time when people didn't know how mushroom rings worked ever made, and are still used today sometimes. Being merely a woman and a hobby artist she could not be allowed in to such estranged academy's of science.
Yes, that's the same Beatrix potter who drew the bunny in the blue coat.

Art and science are linked at the very core of their expression and this weird idea they are some how seporate and never to touch is baffling to me.

Year2 | Tri2 | Week1: Interactive project (Research) part 1
Thursday 18th January 2024
An interactive project sounds interesting to me as I have been a part of an interactive project in the past but this project requires us to use a new program called ECO. Going over the brief, we are required to pick an argument and create new interactive graphic novel with a character based story. But before we could brainstorm ideas, we started with a short activity where we had to draw something we did that morning and something that happened right after. First I drew a washing machine as I had put some of my dirty clothes in the machine to wash while I was at uni then right after I drive to campus. After we had drawn our two panels, one was to be our first panel and the second was to be our last panel. We then had to add three panels to expand the story between the first and last panels. I drew me grabbing my coat, car keys and packing my school bag. With these extra panels, it gave a better understanding of my daily routine which an audience could maybe relate to.
We started brainstorming arguments we could make into a graphic novel and a story. I created a mind map of issues I felt was a serious problem or that people could better understand.
[scan of mind map]
From this mind map I decided to go down the route of the effects of pollution/fly tipping. I began to research further into the issues and effects pollution has on our planet and I found out that over 13 million tons of waste ends up in our oceans which affects the sea life drastically.

Connie Springer Headcanons
Something for the bad bitches who hype up my bald boy. Enjoy.
Tumblr media
Connie collects random shit like the tabs of coke cans, the ketchup packets from takeaways and empty water bottles but that’s more because he’s too lazy to throw them out.
He can’t wink to save his life but he’ll “wink” at anyone. If you make eye contact with him, he’ll look like his eye is having a breakdown.
Connie writes down all the jokes he thinks of in one notebook because one day he’ll be famous and he can sell it. Most of the jokes are cringey puns and insults he used against Jean.
Connie is tatted like crazy. He has a full sleeve on his left arm snaking up to his neck. Lots of small tattoos that Sasha drew for him. He definitely got the heart with “mum” inside it as a dare from Ymir. Has a small matching JSC tattoo with Sasha and Jean.
His favourite artist would be Eminem and he takes pride in the fact that they’re both “bald” and have swagger. He also listens to Post Malone and is secretly a Taylor Swift and Little Mix fan.
Boyfriend Connie would be sweet and goofy. You’d think he’d throw jokes around and laugh at you but never would he disrespect his baby like that. His insults are for everyone but you.
He’s the type to drool a little while sleeping and his snoring, Lord have mercy, his snoring is earth trembling.
Connie was the kid walking around school with a speaker (I think the whole fandom agrees on this). Starting a mini rave in the canteen - just typical Connie behaviour. Definitely would play Who Let The Dogs Out? when teachers come to break up a fight.
Uni student Connie just stinks of weed. He’s your go-to guy for a chill time. He’s well known around the campus and likes to think he’s a trendsetter for his peers but his whole vibe is pretty mainstream.
Connie is weirdly good at dancing. He can go from Shakira’s hip wiggling to Snoop’s high shuffle dances. Very good at the couple dances too. Play a bit of light jazz and he’ll be spinning you around the room like he’s a Disney prince. He taught the other boys how to dance for their school prom. Sasha has a video of Connie spinning and dipping Armin which is strictly for the gang only.
Don’t mess with Connie, he has the dirt on anyone and everyone and wouldn’t hesitate to create chaos. Eren learnt this the hard way when Connie posted the video of Eren practicing kissing on his hand after he had drew on Connie’s face while he was sleeping.

The prompt: A is a literature major and has to do a character study from the novel that had been discussed in class but everything A writes is actually about B.
The fic is under the cut
Love vs. Autonomy
“Prongs, are you sure you can’t come to the pub with us tonight?” Sirius pressed.
James turned his body to face his best friend and roommate from his desk chair. “You know I want to, Pads, but I’ve got to finish this ridiculous character study, and then I have to meet my lab partner in the library to finish up our report for Biology.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “I thought Remus was the studious one.”
“Hey!” Remus swatted at Sirius’s shoulder in mock offense.
“We’ve been over this. I’m turning over a new leaf this semester.”
“Yeah, yeah, dreams and aspirations of writing movies—”
“The correct term would be a screenwriter—”
“Whatever. We’ve still got two years of Uni left. Let’s live it up and have fun!” Sirius dropped his last argument in the hopes of swaying James out for a night of fun until James threw out a compromise.
“How about tomorrow?”
“Suit yourself. You know where to find us if you change your mind.”
James nodded and waved his friends off as they disappeared out the door. Now that the room was settled in peace, James turned his attention back to the blank piece of paper.
Okay, okay, okay. Focus.
His eyes sweep over the instructions for the hundredth time.
Instructions: Choose a character from the classic novel, Jane Eyre, and discuss their characterization, including their growth from the beginning to the end.
James would be lying if he said he thoroughly enjoyed a classic Charlotte Bronte novel. Sure, they were timeless but so dry and difficult to get through. Reaching over the paper, he grabbed the tattered copy that he’d borrowed from the campus library and flipped through it rapidly, feeling the cool breeze the pages fanned over his face and taking in the scent of aging paper. At least he’d actually read the book this time and didn’t need to Spark Note it.
Jane Eyre is one of those classic literary characters, one that is highly respected for the strides they took within the setting of their story. It is telling that Jane has a strong head on her shoulders, and an unfailing belief system that never flounders even in the most trying of times.
Despite being orphaned and dealing with the cruelty of her Aunt, Jane maintains her trust in God, which helps her through the alienation that her life has thrown at her. She possesses a strong sense of self-worth and dignity, even with the abuse she receives, and is well-versed in what is right and wrong. Her passion helps to drive her emotions but is not completely overwhelmed by her need for autonomy at the same time.
As James wrote, he noticed the similarities with Jane and Lily, the lab partner he’s been harboring a crush for since the beginning of last year. For a brief moment, James contemplated whether that’s the reason he chose to analyze Jane instead of Rochester, who would have been the most obvious choice for his character study. Rochester was much more easily understood. His intentions were clear, whereas Jane flip-flopped through much of the story, unable to make up her mind until the end. But perhaps that was what drew him to the character.
She is truly a unique individual. She doesn’t believe she ever quite fits in, no matter what crowd she’s around. Nonetheless, she’s friendly and holds everyone she meets in high regard. Lily’s respectful, yet demanding, and holds no hesitation for what she believes is best for herself.
The way she refuses a date with a man because she’s unsure of his true intentions, or for the sole fact that she doesn’t want to give up her independence to be with someone else is both commendable and infuriating. It’s clear that the person she’s meant to be with is right in front of her, yet she’s insistent on denying herself true happiness because of ‘principle.’ Like the other guy is better for her?
Psh, please. Sure, he can talk a big game and say all the right things, but what does that mean in the end? Where’s the passion? Where’s the spark? Rochester loves her, and St. John...well, there’s something about him that’s not to be trusted. At least Rochester owned his mistakes, and never pressured Jane into something that she never wanted. He admitted his mistakes and accepted Jane’s choice, which is commendable for the Victorian period.
At least she receives her happy ending
A knock at the door to his flat disrupted James from his assignment, and as he got up to answer, he left the paper abandoned on the table to see who was there.
“Lily! What are you—”
“I’m sorry! I tried to text you, but you didn’t respond, and I didn’t particularly feel like waiting outside in the cold—”
“What are you talking about?”
“For some reason, the library closed early tonight. My guess is there wasn’t enough staff. I hope you don’t mind that I texted Remus for your address. I still was hoping we could get this lab done.
“Er, yeah, sure. We can go to the table if you want.”
James invited her in and she kicked off her shoes while he shut the door. He took her coat to hang up while she made her way over to the table to get set up for their study session. Now he was even happier that he’d stuck to his original plans and hadn’t let Sirius talk him into going out instead.
“Would you like some tea?”
“I’d love some, thanks.”
James headed to the kitchen to put the kettle on and waited. He wondered if tonight would be the night he plucked up the courage to ask Lily on an official date. And not just a study date. The kettle began to whistle and he moved about the small space, fixing two cups and bringing them out to the table where Lily sat.
“Hey, James, what’s this for?” she asked, holding the paper he’d been working on before her arrival.
“For my English Literature class. One of those character studies.”
She nodded, though her brows were knotted in confusion. “Do you confuse the main characters in the books you have to read with your lab partners often?”
“What do you mean?”
“You wrote my name in here where you clearly meant to put Jane. At least, I think you did. Maybe you meant another—”
“No, I didn’t!” he denied as he snatched the paper from his hands, but Lily didn’t seem to hear him.
“I mean, I guess it’s only a little strange that a lot of that seemed to—never mind.”
James scanned the paper until, sure enough, he saw her name in his handwriting, staring back up at him. “Bloody hell…”
At some point in his writing, he’d muddled the lines where Jane started and Lily ended. And of course, he’d left it out for Lily to find.
“Er, sorry, I—”
“It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not.”
“It is! I’m flattered. To be compared with such an iconic character as Jane Eyre? Though I’d love to know who you think my Rochester and St. John Rivers are.”
James groaned at her teasing. “Isn’t you reading my mistake bad enough?”
“Oh, come on, what’s the harm?”
And James, never one to back down from a challenge, set his mild embarrassment aside. “Well, I’m Rochester. Obviously.”
“Of course.”
“And St. John is…” he trailed off, thinking of that creep Snape who sat behind them in Biology, always asking her to study with him, or if she wanted to grab a coffee.
“You don’t have to say it. I know.”
“You do?”
“Well, yeah.”
They sat in silence for a moment before Lily spoke up again. “And if it’ll help your paper, I have another similarity for you.”
“Oh?”
Lily smirked at him. “I’d choose Rochester too.”
James looked up. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but it wasn’t that. “Uh, Rochester’s code for—”
“You, you dolt,” she laughed at his question, making it obvious for him.
“Well, I had to check! So, does that mean if I asked you out to dinner tomorrow night, you’d say—”
“Yes.”
“Brilliant!”
James punched the air in victory and Lily smiled shyly. As they settled into their assignment, James began thinking of all the possible places to take her on their date. The only downfall—but it wasn’t—was that he’d have to cancel on the boys again.
Ah, well, they’ll understand.

Stalking for Art Students
Summary: An extremely pretty stranger catches Michael's train to uni every morning. What's he supposed to do except draw him at every opportunity? At least he doesn't have a crush on the nude model.
Genre: Contemporary
Relationships: Mashton, Cake
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Word count: 4541
Author’s Note:  For @cakelftv @5sos-fic-exchange. It's here! The 5sos Fic Exchange of Winter (or summer) 2021! Kirby, I hope you enjoy the silliness I made for you, this was so fun to write.
Leave kudos?
Michael wasn’t a perv. Luke liked to joke that he was, call him a stalker, but anyone in Michael’s position would do the same. In fact, many artists did exactly what Michael did. It was good practice, impromptu lessons in capturing ideas quickly at a moment's notice.
There was nothing weird about drawing the beautiful man that caught Michael’s train most mornings on the way to uni. He was an artist. His brain was wired to notice pretty things, the desire to replicate them on paper was in the fibre of his very being and besides, anyone would agree that this man had a face worth studying, with prominent angles, pouty lips and sharp eyes all framed by dyed red curls.
The curls were Michael’s problem this morning. Hair really wasn’t his forte but he couldn’t keep acting like he needed more practice with those massive biceps. He wasn’t yet ready to give up on finding excuses to stare at picturesque strangers on the train, though, so… curls.
Michael swapped his pencil for his black brush pen, a popular choice among his favourite comic artists, and went over the grey with bolder shading. His early sketches were all in pencil; he hadn’t yet had the confidence to ink them but now that he knew he’d see the guy most mornings and have plenty of opportunities to draw him as many times as he wanted, he wasn’t as afraid of fucking up.
In fact, the expectation of seeing the stranger was great enough that Michael had even set aside some of his coloured markers to keep in his travel supplies where normally he wouldn’t bother with anything more than lead pencils, black ink pens and erasers. As the linework of the current portrait dried, Michael went over one from yesterday, a sketch of the back of his head, with red. The waves were all wrong, but the saturated colour drew attention from the haphazard linework.
Michael wished the tattoo on the back of his neck was better, though. Some kind of bird of prey, wings outstretched. There was a larger version of it at the bottom of an earlier page in his sketchbook, one he’d taken down when he’d found himself standing right behind the guy one morning, intrigued by the choice in ink.
Michael finished the warm skin of the guy’s neck, capping his pen. The colours weren’t quite true to life, but they were true to the feeling of the stranger. That was his job as an artist, his teacher had told him in high school when he’d been upset over his shitty attempts at realism. Anyone could learn to depict things realistically, but only an artist could portray feeling.
Luke, the classmate that always had a coffee ready when he reached campus, was a fucking god at portraying feeling. Plants were his area of expertise, but somehow he could make a bunch of lavender look cheery, sexy or mournful. Michael only knew how to do dramatic.
“Morning, stalker,” Luke greeted when Michael arrived, handing him his coffee.
Michael rolled his eyes, taking it and giving Luke his sketchbook. He’d steal it in class later if he didn’t surrender it now. “Pretty sure stalking requires some level of following people around. I only see this guy on the train.” And around campus sometimes, but he wasn’t about to add fuel to the fire by telling Luke that the guy was a student here.
“Eh, you’re still a creep,” Luke replied, flipping to the most recent page.
“I need practice with hair,” Michael pointedly told him, “Calum doesn’t have any.”
“Calum has plenty of hair,” Luke argued with a pout.
“How can you get on my ass about this guy when you’re the fuckhead who has a crush on our nude model? That’s gotta be some kind of dumb cliche.”
“At least I know his name and actually talk to him,” Luke quipped.
“We all talk to him. So he doesn’t zone out and fall asleep again.”
“What’s all this?” Luke asked, gesturing to the notes around the page.
Fuck.
“Ideas,” Michael said tightly.
“Ideas.”
“It’s good practice,” Michael told him, “You come up with ideas about what traits and shit you’d give the character based on their appearance.”
“Right.” Luke cleared his throat. “Broody,” he read, “Classy, knows the tango, tragic assassin backstory, takes no shit…”
“Give me that.”
Luke held the book out of reach, giggling. “Woah, hey, I’m still reading! Keeps suit clean, not afraid to get his hands dirty, hypnosis, hates kids—”
“Shut up and give it back.”
“No, I’m invested!” Luke protested with a grin, “Is hypnosis his superpower?”
“No, he’s just really good at getting people to talk with eye contact,” Michael explained, grabbing at the book half-heartedly. At least Luke couldn’t keep reading it like this.
“What about this tragic backstory? Did assassins kill his parents?”
“No, he lost someone when he was an assassin, so he quit and put his skills towards getting revenge.”
“Doesn’t sound very good-guy.”
“He’s a villain.”
“Ooh!” Luke wiggled his eyebrows at him. “You do have a thing for bad boys, huh?”
Snatching back the book, Michael shook his head.
They’d reached the visual arts block, the weird blue sculpture just outside attempting to distract everyone from the fact that the building itself was fucking ugly. Michael had to give it points for effort, even if he wasn’t quite sure what the sculpture was supposed to be.
This morning’s lessons were mainly focused around using impasto medium to paint still lifes of fruit, which of course had Luke thriving and Michael trying not to pull his own hair out. Still life itself wasn’t so bad, drawing comics required knowledge in all kinds of subjects, but he couldn’t help but feel that learning this kind of painting was a huge waste of time for him. Comics were much more two dimensional than this.
“At least we have that new unit today,” Luke said when they were out having lunch, “Printmaking? That sounds fun.”
“You’re just trying to be nice, your painting looks fucking amazing.” He jabbed at a gravy-soaked chip. “It’s not even done. Paintings are supposed to look like shit before they’re done.”
Luke appeared to be ignoring him, staring at something over his shoulder.
Michael snapped his fingers at him. “You okay there?”
“Is that the guy you’re stalking?”
“What?” Michael looked over his shoulder, almost dropping his fork when he laid eyes on the beautiful stranger from the train, “Holy fuck.”
“It is? You didn’t tell me he goes here!”
Michael turned around, ducking his head as if he could hide himself. “Shut the fuck up,” he hissed, “Stop looking at him.”
“He’s coming over here.”
Peeking over his shoulder, he realised that Luke was right.
The stranger smiled and gave them a wave as he approached.
Michael gave him a nervous wave back.
“You take my train,” the guy greeted as he arrived, pulling up the other seat at their table, “I’ve seen you drawing? I’m Ashton.”
“I’m Michael,” Michael squeaked. He cleared his throat.
“I’m Luke!” Luke offered his hand with a grin.
Ashton accepted it, returning the smile. “What are you guys doing?”
“Eating lunch.” Michael wondered if he should offer some of his chips. Would that be weird?
Ashton giggled. “No, what are you studying here?”
“Art!” Luke eagerly told him, “Michael’s a great artist, you should see his sketchbook!”
“Is that it?” Ashton asked, pointing to Michael’s book.
He snatched it off the table. “No.”
“Aw, don’t be shy Michael,” Luke goaded with a pure evil grin, “They’re really good!”
“It’s fine,” Ashton laughed, “I’m doing music.”
“Wow, what’s that like?” Michael asked before Luke could embarrass him further.
“So good,” Ashton gushed, “I’ve loved music all my life, it’s such a deep, visceral expression of the human soul, you know?”
“Yeah, definitely,” Michael agreed, “Do you play anything?”
“Drums.” He laughed. Ashton laughed and smiled a lot when he spoke. “I know, I know, but it’s just got such a rich history, you know? I bet percussion was probably the earliest manifestation of music in our history. Aside from the voice, of course.”
“Totally.”
“Are you coming to the nude drawing session today, Mikes?” Luke cut in.
Michael gave him a confused look. “Yeah? Gotta make sure you’re getting enough practice with ass muscles. You’re getting good at them.”
Luke flushed.
“They offer that here?” Ashton asked, “That’s cool. You know, the human form is the origin of a lot of visual art. Easy to see why.”
“Yeah, Luke loves it.”
Luke glared at Michael.
“Our model’s pretty good, even though he can only come in once a week.”
“You only have one?” Ashton asked.
“Yeah. Kind of a shame, to be honest,” Michael admitted, “He’s great, but he only has one body type. Not a lot of people come to sessions anymore.”
He nodded, then checked his phone. “I better head off. Good meeting you two.”
“You too!” Luke returned, wiggling his eyebrows at Michael.
Michael ignored him. “See ya, man.”
“Broody,” Luke commented as they watched him walk away.
“Huh?”
“He just takes no shit.”
Michael groaned. “Shut up.”
“I was fully hypnotised that whole time,” Luke continued, “You reckon he can tango?”
“I hate you.”
“I bet he’s an assassin on the side.”
Printmaking looked interesting, as Luke had said. He’d immediately picked out some sketches of peonies to fix up and turn into prints while Michael had designed a superhero breaking through a window. Although it was fun to occasionally step outside their comfort zones, they both appreciated the opportunity to use what they knew best to experiment with this new medium.
Michael was quick to suggestively elbow Luke when Calum walked in, Jane announcing that, while class was over, they’d be holding the usual Tuesday figure study session next door. To Luke’s horror and Michael’s amusement, Calum felt like hanging out with them before they went in.
“What are you guys up to?” he asked, pulling up a stool next to Luke.
“Um, printmaking,” Luke told him, eyes bugging out of his head in alarm as Calum leaned closer to peer at his work.
“Those are good,” he said, nodding at Luke’s flowers.
“I gotta carve them out on this,” he said, showing Calum the square of lino he’d transferred his design onto.
“Sick. Show me when you’re done, ay?” he said, giving Luke a thump on the back before getting up to head to the storage room and undress.
“See ya,” Luke called after him, looking horrified when Calum grinned back.
“See ya?” Michael teased.
He ducked his head, quickly packing away his supplies. “Shut up.”
Luke had been hopeless at figure drawing when the semester began, eventually confiding to Michael that people had always frustrated him; one wrong line and the entire drawing was shit, he’d said. These days, Luke was incredible… at drawing Calum. Somehow, there was still something distinctly floral to his figure studies, something in the linework or the shading or the colours in his paintings that reminded Michael of the softest petals in Luke’s sketchbooks. Luke’s Calum was pretty.
Not that the real Calum wasn’t something to appreciate, Michael thought as he idly shaded his balls. For this pose, he was standing with one foot propped up on a box, giving Michael and Luke a spectacular view of everything. He had the smile of someone laughing on the inside, a broom handle in hand that Michael was turning into some kind of sci-fi spear. He hoped his Calum looked as cool as the real one.
“Is that a stripper pole?” Michael whispered, frowning at Luke’s sketch.
“No.”
“Yes it is.”
“Well, I had to turn the broom into something,” he huffed.
Michael grinned. “Hey Cal, do you dance?”
Luke gaped at him in horror.
“Like at parties?” Calum gave a small shrug, but held his pose. “Sure?”
“No, like exotic dancing,” he explained with a grin.
Calum grinned back. “Why, you looking for a lap dance?”
“Aren’t we all?” he replied, smiling at Luke, who appeared to be trying to hide behind his easel.
“You’re a monster,” Luke whispered to him.
“I’m flirting on your behalf,” he whispered back, “You should be thanking me.”
The timer beeped and Calum relaxed, shaking out his arms and legs a bit. Luke pretended he wasn’t staring at his dick.
Michael would remember the next few days as utterly mundane. Ashton would give him a smile every time they saw each other on the train and Michael would try to be a bit sneakier about drawing him, but ultimately not much changed until Wednesday.
Blursed Wednesday. Michael couldn’t figure out if the universe was trying to bless him for appreciating its beauty or curse him for being a weirdo, so he decided to play it safe by calling it blursed.
Determined to catch him off guard, the day started out normal. He woke up, prepared for the day, waved to Ashton on the train, banged out a few sketches of him and went to uni. They were starting a sculpting unit, so Michael agonised over what he could make into a sculpture while Luke drew lilies. Things took an odd turn after lunch, when Jane announced that there would be a figure drawing session after class.
“Isn’t Calum busy on Wednesdays?” Michael asked. Maybe his schedule has cleared up a bit.
“No, not Calum,” Jane explained, “A new guy signed up, I can’t remember his name, though. So be nice, guys!” she said to the class, “We don’t wanna scare him off, yeah?”
Michael nudged Luke. “She means you.”
Luke rolled his eyes.
“I hope this one’s got a different body type, though,” Michael said thoughtfully, “It would be funny if he was like Calum’s twin or something.”
He was not Calum’s twin.
Michael nearly fell off his stool when today’s model walked in. The first thing he noticed was the dark red curls.
“Oh, hey Ashton!” Luke called, waving.
Ashton looked at them and grinned. “Hey, Luke! Fancy seeing you here! Hey, Mikes!”
Michael gaped at him. Ashton from the train was their new model?
“You know what you’re doing?” Jane asked Ashton.
He smiled. “Yep. I’m all set.”
“Just sitting poses today,” Jane told the class, “All five minutes at most, so he doesn’t get tired.”
Michael barely heard her. Ashton was shrugging off the gown he was wearing, one from their closet of model props, revealing everything. Calum had started out in underwear, going nude after a few weeks once he was comfortable with the environment and the class. Ashton seemed to be utterly devoid of shame.
“Mikey,” Luke murmured, “If you don’t hit that, I swear to god I will.”
“Stop staring at his dick,” Michael hissed. His disarmingly impressive dick…
“He’s our nude model,” Luke said, taking to paper with his charcoal the moment Ashton was seated on the stool at the centre of the room and the timer was set, “We’re supposed to stare at his dick.”
Although Luke quickly sketched out Ashton’s shape, doodling a few sunflowers as he went, Michael kept looking from Ashton to his page, completely lost. He barely managed to outline his form before the timer went off, reminding him that his time to appreciate Ashton’s body was incredibly limited. He might never model for them again for all Michael knew. He might get so creeped out by Michael’s staring that he took a different train to uni every morning.
Spurred on by this realisation, Michael focused on the details, the things he didn’t already have in his sketchbook. Ashton’s hair looked incredible, but it was his soft tummy Michael needed to etch into his brain now, the way his thighs curved from his hips to his knees, the dimples in his back.
The session was too short. Michael barely understood the way shadows fell in the curves of Ashton’s back before the timer rang for the last time and Ashton stood, picked up his gown and slipped back into it, cruelly hiding away that incredible body. Ashton smiled at him and Luke as he came over as if he hadn’t just hit Michael in the heart with a hammer.
“How was I?” he asked, “This was my first time modelling, so…”
“Yeah, you did alright,” Luke told him, “Your body’s completely different to Calum’s.”
Ashton came around to see Luke’s page. “What are the flowers for?”
Luke shrugged. “You seem like a sunflowery guy.”
“Can I see yours?” Ashton asked Michael.
“Uh… sure?” Michael replied, sitting back to give him room.
Ashton whistled. “You made me look hot.”
“You are hot,” Michael said before he could stop himself.
Ashton grinned. “Aw, thanks, buddy!”
Luke grinned evilly at Michael.
Luckily, Calum still showed up for his modelling session next Tuesday and Michael was able to take the opportunity to tease him relentlessly. Unluckily, Ashton came back again the next day, exactly as comfortable without a stitch of clothing on his body as he’d been last week.
This time, though, Michael was ready. He’d been using last week’s sketches to draw Ashton in more dynamic poses, fighting superheroes and shit, and noticed where his knowledge of his body was lacking. As Ashton got comfortable on the floor, surrounded by the class, Michael eyed his calves and got sketching.
“Lotta people here today,” Luke murmured.
Michael glanced around, realising that he was right. “Guess they wanna see the new model.”
Most of the class used to come to Calum’s sessions, but attendance had been going down for a while, maybe as people got bored with his body. The only people who’d come to every session since the beginning of the year were Luke and Michael.
“You know he has a dick, right?”
Michael glanced at Luke, then looked back at his sketch of Ashton’s legs, a blank space where his dick and balls should be. “I’m not a perv,” he grumbled.
“It’s a nude session,” Luke reminded him, “We’re supposed to look at his dick.”
“We’re supposed to look at all of him,” Michael corrected, pulling his sketchbook out of his backpack. He flipped to a page featuring villain Ashton in a skin-tight costume punching a squid monster, erasing his legs and redrawing them with real Ashton’s legs as reference. “Stop being weird.”
“It’s weirder to not draw his dick,” Luke replied, “What do you have against artful nudity?”
The timer rang and Ashton shifted to lay out more, dick prominent. As Michael wondered if he was trying to torture him, the door opened and a tall Maori man walked in, frowning at Ashton before looking around the room, eyes settling on Michael and Luke.
“Who’s that?” Michael asked Luke as the guy headed towards them.
“Who, Cal?” He looked at the guy. “What are you doing here? I thought you had work.”
“I got today off!” The guy smiled at Luke, giving him a thump on the back as he leaned in to see his sketches and Michael realised that it was indeed Calum but clothed. “Lookin’ good,” he gruffed.
Luke smiled bashfully. “I’m still learning.”
“I was talking about you,” Calum said with a grin, lightly tugging at Luke’s hair, “Do something different with your hair?”
Almost going red, Luke mumbled a, “You too.” He stared at his sketchpad in horror. “I mean, you… You look good too,” he floundered.
“This guy bothering you?” Ashton called, grinning.
Calum eyed him. “New guy treating you right?”
Luke nodded. “He’s alright.” With a mischievous glance at Michael he lowered his voice. “Mikey has a crush on him.”
“I do not.”
“He made him a superhero.”
“Super villain,” Michael hissed, “And it’s normal to use real people as inspiration for your work.”
“Did you make Calum a character?” Luke asked pointedly.
 “Yes.”
“Really?” Calum asked interestedly.
To prove the point, Michael flipped through his sketchbook to find the page, handing Calum the book.
“Oh, sick! Am I like Spider Man? Crawling around on ceilings and shit?”
Michael shrugged, throwing together a quick sketch of Ashton’s current pose. Calum didn’t tend to lie on the floor, so it was useful practice.
“Can I look through this?” Calum asked, pulling up a stool between Michael and Luke.
“Sure,” Michael replied.
Calum showed Michael a page of Ashtons. When did you do all these? I thought he just started last week.”
“On the train,” Luke whispered conspiratorially, “They catch the same one every morning.”
“Huh. Is that why he started modelling? ‘Cause of your drawings?”
“He doesn’t know Michael draws him,” Luke explained with an evil grin.
“He’s got the kind of face artists wanna draw on the train,” Calum mused, frowning at Ashton, then Luke.
“Luke gives people flower-sonas,” Michael blurted a bit too loudly.
“What’s a flower-sona?” Ashton asked.
“No I don’t!” Luke said.
“Do I have one?”
“Uh…” Michael leaned over to see Luke’s sketchpad. “Sunflowers!”
Ashton grinned. “Like the ones you drew last week? Nice!”
“Do I?” Calum asked in a tone that almost sounded nervous.
Luke huffed. “Jacaranda.”
“What’s that?”
He turned to the table behind them to grab his sketchbook, opening it to a page and giving it to Calum. Calum accepted it, leaving Michael’s on the table.
“Wow.”
Luke had painted a portrait of Calum, wreathed in small, cool purple flowers.
“These are jacarandas?”
“Yeah.”
“And they remind you of me?”
“It was for colour and composition practice,” Luke said quickly.
“I dunno what that means, but it’s fuckin’ sick,” Calum replied in wonder, “Can I…”
“Yeah, sure.”
They fell into relative silence as Calum flipped through Luke’s book, notably giving Luke way more compliments than he’d given Michael even though he knew almost nothing about flowers. Michael loved plenty of compliments, but he took comfort in getting ammo to tease Luke with later.
“Hey, how are those flowers going?” Calum asked suddenly. “From last week? I wanted to ask yesterday, but I had to run off to work right after the session.”
“Oh, I’ve got a few prints done!” Luke told him, “I have pictures on my Instagram.”
Calum took out his phone. “What’s your name?”
As he looked Luke up, the timer rang for the last time and Ashton got up to stretch and put his gown back on. He came over, giving Calum a friendly smile.
“You’re the other model?”
“Yeah, Calum.”
“I’m Ashton.” He leaned to peak around Michael’s sketchpad. “Can I see?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Grinning, he stepped around to Calum’s side to get a good look. “Lotta legs?”
“Yeah, I… didn’t really get them, so I focused on them this week.”
“And sunflowers!”
Luke smiled at Ashton. “Yeah! They suit you.”
“You said you’re on Instagram?”
“Yeah, a bit of it’s my art, but it’s kind of a mix of stuff.”
He nodded, then looked at Michael. “Do you?”
“Yeah, uh…” Michael patted his pocket for his phone, taking it out to open Instagram. “What’s your name? I’ll follow you.”
Ashton helped him find his profile, promising to follow back once he got home since he didn’t have his phone on him at the moment.
“Lotta lemons,” Michael commented, scrolling through.
“Yeah, I’ve got a tree at home,” Ashton said, examining Luke’s sketches, “A little one.”
“Got any spare lemons?”
“Yeah, I’ll bring you a bag tomorrow.”
“Really?”
Ashton grinned. “Yeah! Little guy’s been working hard, I’ve got stacks of them at home.”
“Nice!” Michael put his phone away to return to his sketch pad. He wanted to touch up a few of the drawings before going home.
“Is this your sketchbook?”
Michael frowned and looked back, finding Ashton leaning on the table, staring at Michael’s open sketchbook.
Shit.
He hurriedly got up to take it, but it was too late; Calum had left it open on a page of morning train sketches.
“I draw people on the train sometimes,” he explained, trying to casually rub his head, then wondering why the fuck he was rubbing his head.
Ashton pointed to the bird silhouette at the bottom of the page, smiling. “That’s my condor!”
“Yeah, you know, it was, like… inspiration or whatever. Sometimes you just get inspired.”
“You’ve got like a comicky style going on here,” Ashton said, “Is that rude to say?”
“No, it’s… what I’m going for. I wanna do comics. One day.”
Ashton grinned at him. “Can I be in one?”
Michael laughed awkwardly. “So, you’re not, like…” Incredibly creeped out and considering never doing nude modelling again? “I’m not stalking you or anything. You’re just visually appealing.”
Ashton pouted. “I like to think I’ve got a good personality too. Are there others?”
Michael glanced at Luke for help, but he had stopped packing his stuff up and was grinning like he couldn’t believe one of his reality TV shows was playing out in real life right before his very eyes. “A few?”
“Can I look?”
“Sure.”
Fuck. He’d meant to say no. It was too late to change his answer now; Ashton was already pulling the book towards himself to flip through.
But he didn’t flip through. He turned to the first page and examined it for what felt like several months before slowly turning to the next, taking in every shitty drawing before moving on. The worst part was that Michael had started that book when the semester began, so the Ashton drawings appeared early and had been almost daily additions since then. Michael had no idea how many there were, though he had to say that he’d never filled a sketchbook faster than he was filling this one.
Apparently bored with the lull in conversation, Luke resumed putting away his pencils and sketchpad.
“What are you doing tonight, Luke?” Calum wondered.
“Hm? Oh, uh… not a lot?”
“You wanna get a drink?”
Luke blinked at him, mouth slightly agape. “A drink?”
Calum shrugged. “Yeah. There’s a bar down the road I’ve been thinking of trying.”
“A drink. Yeah, okay.” He glanced at Michael, but Michael was as helpful as Luke had been for him. “Yeah, I just gotta drop off my stuff at… home.”
“Alright. Are you nearby? I’ll come along.”
Luke looked lost for words for a moment. “Okay. Yeah. Okay.”
He suddenly seemed in a much bigger rush to pack up, clumsily knocking the sketchpad to the floor. Calum immediately dropped to pick it up for him and Michael rolled his eyes about how weird they both were. Grinning like a dumbass, Luke took his bag and art folder and nearly ran out, pulling Calum along.
“These are really good,” Ashton said, finally emerging from Michael’s last page of drawings. He gently closed the book and handed it back to him with a grin. “I didn’t know you found me so inspiring.”
“I mean… you know…”
Ashton laughed. “Right.”
“So what are you doing today?” Michael blurted before he could stop himself, “I’ve got like a few hours before my train leaves, so…” He didn’t, but there was another train that could get him home that night.
“I was gonna get Italian for dinner after this,” Ashton said, invitation in his eyes, “Today’s payday, so…”
“Can I tag along?”
Ashton grinned. “I’ll put on some clothes.”
