Steel Ball Run Ch. 6-10 Thoughts
Chapter 6
I didn’t have much to say about this chapter, except wanting to highlight this panel. I get why Gyro is so beloved now.

Chapter 9
I’m just now realising that Pocoloco’s race # being 777 plays into his whole lucky “1 in 5 trillion” thing...like loosely my brain is associating 777 --> slot machines --> winning the lottery??? is this really silly of me
I also think all his insane luck (falling off his horse in the forest, falling onto a cow corpse, etc.) really helps establish the vibes of mysticism or magic realism. And idk it has me thinking about the universe and cosmic coincidences and whatever
Also that thing (a stand probably) whispering to him reminds me a lot of Cheap Trick in its design and the way it acts? But it clearly seems to have a very different goal/purpose
yes I know every part of Jojo’s is basically magical realism to an extent. But there’s just such a unique vibe in part 7 so far that I can’t quite articulate
As another side note I’m a bit surprised that we haven’t been formally introduced to any stands yet, or even seen any aside from Pocoloco’s. But I guess that makes sense given that part 7 is supposed to reflect part 1 in many ways.
Chapter 10
I don’t know how scientifically accurate the whole explanation about Sandman’s running style is but it’s kind of a nice callback to older parts of JJBA where some character would just have some random big brain science moment (a specific scene from Battle Tendency comes to mind). I don’t know if there are scenes like this in parts 3-6 that just weren’t adapted into the anime but I think they’re neat!
The way part 7 is written (so far) has made it pretty easy for me to get to know different characters gradually. Like it’s just really well-done and not overwhelming to me at all
We get so much of Gyro’s inner monologue and it is still so interesting to me how he is basically being presented as the protagonist thus far, in place of SBR’s Joestar. I don’t think any similar situations from other Jojo parts really come to mind.
The main character trait I’ve picked up on for Johnny (aside from him being Kind of An Asshole pre-injury) is that he still seems to be a good jockey who really knows his stuff, even after being out of practice for so long.
And similarly that Dio/Diego is also known to be an amazing jockey. I know their relationship in SBR will be very different to Jonathan and Dio in part 1 but it’s cool to see that the similarities between Johnny and Diego are still being highlighted.
