the best thing for me actually is im getting around to reading the comics that retell from iwtv -> body thief and theyre actually pretty good so far? they cut down on a lot of her narration and often excessive narration which makes the plot fly by lmao. the worst thing however is the art is... well definitely something. at times it works and at times you get this panel of louis thats been making me laugh so hard for like 10 minutes

the power of seal (ch 39 spoilers)

in ch 39, it's revealed that the twin with seal was the one who did not revive. the twin wouldve had the option of either refusing seal and dying, or accepting it and living (based off asa's experience with break)-- except that there are other people who have the power of seal despite not being the twins of day and night: akio's mother and potentially yuru's mother.

i doubt that arakawa would put in a detail like this with the only explanation being "it just happens". there's probably something happening with the seal daemon that we don't know about yet. much to think about

all that being said, i wonder what will happen in regards to yuru and claiming seal. him kicking the bucket is unlikely. i honestly do see him claiming seal bc of how it was mentioned earlier that the divine left and right were the natural enemies of seal and break respectively. the surface was scratched with asa and right when they got eaten by yin-yang, but i wonder how it would affect yuru if he were to claim seal, with him also being the daemon wielder of the divine left and right.

(edit 3/23/25); how will yuru claim seal? specifically; how will he die? (will he need to die?) a lot of possibilities to entertain. i'll need to reread a lot to even start to theorize what would make the most sense but i feel like he might be killed for his inability to sense someone's bloodlust. it's been a recurring theme with asuma's daemon and hana. this paired with how fma went, specifically the scene where ed was impaled with a beam: it was because of his resolve to not kill that he was almost killed by kimblee; ed had the opportunity to, but instead went to disarm kimblee by removing the philosopher stone from his posession and slashing his transmutation circles, but he didn't consider that kimblee had another stone. ynt is the only other work i've read from arakawa so i dont know how often she reuses things from past series but it's interesting to think about

i kinda want to read books again, i havent read any in .. more years than i know to remember but idk how to find anything i like, especially these days (i dont read fanfiction either .. , i tried a few times but it never really caught me q-q)

even when i was young i was somewhat picky (though there are plenty books im sure i finished but just .. dont remember) the last series i think i read was skullduggery pleasant (as i said, its been many years) but dropped it after it got a little 'weird' (in like .. i guess the shonen powerscaling problem, at least thats how it felt back then) and the annoying love interest boy that was seemingly only introduced so protag girl could do what normal girls do tm (i know theres many more books in the series so idk if hes actually more than that but eugh)

funnily enough i only seem to remember the books i loved so much i kept rereading them (the bartimäus trio, though i loved the forth prequel more than the others .. still sad i lost my copy of it in school) or the ones i stopped reading bc something completely threw me out of it-

there was one i literally only remember it was a protagonist (teen?) girl (is that a general common thing for the fantasy genre?) and she was travelling via a ship in that scene, idk if it was a flying one but something was different magical tm i think; and left it or ran away or so and sought shelter from the rain at some point and annoying boy caught up to her and they uuh .. started making out of nowhere?? (im sorry i literally only remember i felt rly uncomfortable and awkward, didnt like the boy, thought they had zero chemistry/felt forced AND i did NOT see it coming, like at all, maybe its my aro/ace/autism .. ness (that i wasnt aware of except being def different for most of my life, haha fun.) but i rememebr feeling like i got flashbanged by what i read, the only actual sentence i (think i) remember was "she felt the weight of his hips shifting onto hers" bc it weirded me out so much and i might just have stopped reading it at that point and never looked back lmao)

another one was one with a setting of having dragons and they were used like horses, also feathered! (though the cover picture, i think, was a big dragon eye surrounded by scales, pretty sure it annoyed me constantly but i might missremember, again its been so long and i went through things my brain wishes it could unlive) and the protagonist worked at a stable or soemthing (also girl? idk), last thing i remember was that all dragons started to go mad and kill themselves .. idk if i read any further

(honorable mention to uuh .. dämonenzeit (demon time), was a demon protagonist and it was a little brutal for my taste but when do you get a demon as the main guy, apparently there were two entries and i only read the first one, also lost that copy- Xarors (an OC of mine) first designs were based on the cover of that book and the thing the band 'disturbed' tended to use (the hooded guy with red glowing eyes) i was very original)

maybe all those were super well known ones and i just never knew (grew up without/extremely limited internet and tech in general after all.... the only one i knew was popular and also read all of it and had all parts .. was a certain bad wizard series that should not still be so popular *watches in horror as my niece gets into it and wants nothing but merch for it*) or really bad peepoo baby books, im possibly confusing or mixing some things bc i read quite a few ones with dragons and similar themes, but thats just what i remember/remember feeling like

im so sos so worried for gl #23 im not even excited anymore. if hal and the spectre randomly have a flashback scene and they both (or either one) says they rem3b3r im going to aggressively reread spectre 1992 (corrigan's spectre okay. his last run actually) and spectre 2001 (how was it somehow just a little more preachy than the previous series to me. no i dont know how to say it)

92 series has jim ask if the spectre can't remeber precious hosts, how could he know they existed and the spectre says "faith". and since we've had writers ignoring hal's run and stripped most of his memories (looking deeply at geoff mothertrucking johns) for absolutely forever, they better keep that energy up instead of pulling bull doo doo flashback #24 out of their butts.

but first id have to have hope adams even bothered to read judgement day and any shred of spectre history

this probably isn't gonna help but I don't... really... care about the Spectre? that kinda feels like blasphemy to say because it seems like a lot of GL fans on tumblr really REALLY love Hal's time as the spirit of vengeance and talk about it like it's the most important comic of all times but I just don't feel the same way about it. I read the entire 2001 spectre run and yeah there were parts of it that I enjoyed but it didn't like, grab me by the throat or anything.

truthfully, this attitude of "this writer must absolutely respect this character in the exact way I specifically understand him or I will make it everyone else's problem" is partly what drove me off of the GL subreddits. Especially when it's before the comic has even come out.

Gold Vision.. uh, well idk exactly what gold vision can do(didn't exactly finish JTTW) but if hypothetically it COULD see through illusions...

Could Wukong see through mac's illusions? What would he see? The Six-Ears Macaque, or Mac's ACTUAL self?

ONYX STORM SPOILERS

Okay guys, I just finished the book, and um.. I turned the last page expecting one more only for nothing more to exist. I have so many thoughts about this book, mainly the ending, of course, so I'm gonna make bullet points

Okay okay, Xaden reaching for the last string of warmth from Violets "I love you," as he lets go of his soul? World. Shattering. I'm not going to lie I did not expect full-on venin from him at least in this book and it destroyed me to read.

GETTING MARRIED? NOT ON MY LIST OF POTENTIAL OUTCOMES FOR THIS BOOK.

Did Imogen wipe her memory of the "ceremony"?? If so, I think it's because Xaden didn't want Violet to remember what he had become, to have any image of him in her head other than the one he wishes he could go back to.

Who. Is. The. New. Venin. I've heard lots of speculation, and honestly, all of what I've heard has a hole somewhere that doesn't make sense to me? I've heard Brennan, Garrick, Bhodi, Aaric, and even Liam. Right now, the only one that would make any sense to me is Bhodi, and even then, I'm skeptical. I really don't know, but part of me believes it might have something to do with the scene Brennan heals Mira with the help of Sloane and Dain. Not only do the once grey hand marks disappear entirely that were on Dain (and I think the back of Brennans neck?), but Sloane mentions that Dain shouldn't have as much power as he does.

Skipping back to a bit earlier in the book. Andarana leaving. I CRIED IN CLASS GUYS IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE PLUCKED MY HEART FROM MY CHEST. I expected the Irids to return during this story in some way, but I did not anticipate Andara leaving to learn about their ways. Reading about how she felt the bond sever, felt that a piece of her had flown away with Andarna to the point she couldn't make herself breathe? I must say Yarros did a better than amazing job at writing this scene, at forcing us to feel the loss as if she had been connected to us instead. At least me guys maybe I'm just to invested LMAOO

On that note, I know everyone is talking about it. The depressive bath scene. I dont know, a part of me healed with her in the moment. Whether it was the part of me that had just experienced her loss, or the part of me that longs for the intimacy that was expressed. In that moment, there was no heat, no desperation for bodies to collide, it was her needing Xaden and him stepping up to the job. He wanted to help her in any way he could. From how he gently washed her feet, to her knees, to her hair, it was a level of care I don't believe we've ever seen from Xaden. Don't get me wrong, as readers, we know how much he cares. We see it in the fear for her life or the words he expresses about putting her in front of any kingdom. But this? It was different, I don't know how to word it, but it just was, and I'm terrified that we'll never get to see it again from Xaden, that from here on it's purely angst.

On a happier note than that. VIOLET DATED PRINCE HALDEN AND I DID NOT EXPECT IT. Now, looking back to when Aaric joined, it makes total sense how she knew him so well. I just thought it was because of her mother's station, as I think most of us did. Obviously, miss girl has a type for people in power with some kind of temper

This is kind of long now, but I know I'll come back with more opinions in the next few days. On Friday, I'm rereading the entire series again and annotating this time (first time annotating and first time rereading something immediately after finishing) so I'll be posting lots of moments from the books <33

turnabout toast is a lovely post-aa4 nrmt fic with background klapollo. great "people trying to fix their lives" stuff and WAHHHH edgeworth... also a lot of lovely socal setting stuff (<- socal native, weak for it). phoenix being kind of a bastard but not a bad guy, which i think is fun, because it's interesting.

dirty sympathy, also by the above author. CW for abuse: the premise of the fic is that it's a retelling of aa4 where klavier and apollo are behind the scenes of all the cases collaborating to get rid of each other's abusers (daryan and kristoph, respectively), and trying to keep everything secret. it's a suspenseful read and it's like. crazy. auuughhh. makes me crazy. it's prob my fave aa fic but it takes so much out of me to reread

about him - last rec from this author. the only piece of clay terran fic i have any time for. post-aa5 klapollo sweetness with the outsider pov. so cutes

it’s such an interesting space ryan positions himself in where he tells just enough of the truth to show there’s some awareness, but still complains / appears ignorant of / refuses to acknowledge some of the larger pieces that come out of that. ‘yeah i’m drinking a lot but i’m not on a bender what the fuck do you mean we need to go to the airport fuck pete and joe.’ victim mentality & unreliable narrator of course. i’m sure its similar with his music where he says so much and assumes everyone else can connect the rest. and then gets mad when its connected wrong

it does make for good writing tho

quite honestly pete and spencer did a fair amount of pushing brendon onto ryan as well. they definitely enabled that relationship even if they didnt understand the depth

hmmmm interesting and super hard to say. weirdly eliot or beckett are maybe my most anticipated.

i LOVE eliot’s trope and this is the first TRUE forbidden love story we will see from kbr (they have sort of claimed to have done it in the past but i think this is the most authentically polarized couple they have done. like yes raisy and marrow were sort of forbidden and so were all the bodyguards technically but eliot and winnifred are straight up ENEMIES their families will be RAGING and the DRAMA i will be living for it)

and beckett i’m really excited for because i love him but we dont get to see that much of him in other books. he is super private and busy and of course we should have seen him way more in sulli’s books but i’ve already ranted enough about that for a lifetime. i also love his initial set up with BOTH jo and leo and am happy kbr are writing another poly romance. i simply wasn’t invested in kitsuletti but i ship beckettjoleo (i know they have a better ship name that im simply too tired to remember rn) way more off the bat and since i liked sulli’s books more on the reread im hopeful im going to have a better reading experience this time. poly rep is super important but also way oversexualized so im super curious to see how they handle it and how ill like it this time around

next is probably ben. you may know but i used to be a harriet HATER until my recent reread of luna’s books and then i realized im just a miserable human and i gave her a makeover in my head bc kbr gave her a fugly style and now i recognize the queen that she is. super excited to see ben’s dynamics with his family firsthand and see how him bringing a girlfriend into the fold will go down

begrudgingly i will put charlie next. we all know i have a love hate relationship with this man but i can’t deny that makes me want to read his book so maybe i finally decide one way or the other. or maybe im just meant to have complicated feelings about this character forever idk. but i also know ill enjoy reading charlie and beckett’s twin bond, his dynamic with his parents, his relationship with ben, and whatever drama him and roxanne will cause with beckett (this plot line is a little confusing to me tbh but i want to see how it unfolds. like high key why does beckett even care i feel like the protectiveness they are setting up is baseless and will fizzle out quickly but im curious regardless)

audrey next because MY GIRL!! she shouldn’t be this low but in fairness we don’t even know WHO she will be with so there’s not much to anticipate 😭 but it does make me strongly wonder who her love interest will be and i love when hopeless romantic characters get their happily ever after bc im cheesy like that

and as for the fic - nooooo i didn’t even know such a thing existed tbh. the last time i checked for addicted / like us fics years ago out of pure curiosity there were like 3 lol. truthfully i likely will never read any. i never ever read fic for a series or couple that is unreleased because it almost always ruins the reading experience for me / i have very little desire to and would much prefer to wait for the real thing. with kbr books in particular i have never felt the need to seek out fanfic because they write so much fan service already (this is usually a diss but i mean it as purely a compliment. they write SUCH entertaining scenes that you could only find in fanfic for any other fandom) and since i have their patreon that is so much bonus content i would never dream of needing more. their stuff is already perfectly written and has such high reread value that ive never felt the need to look for something extra that i felt was lacking from my reading experience

10. a fic in a series

[NSFW warning 👍‼️] the amount of time i spend thinking about how to get to the sea is like. i am absolutely incapable of explaining how much it lives in my head rent-free. and thats not even my actual recommendation here because actually, im talking about the sequel, and the ocean, which i think about EVEN MORE.

basically anyone who has spoken to me about oxventure knows that @stickthisbig is my favorite oxventure fan writer, i think their fics are brilliant and they can sell me on anything, but oh my god, and the ocean. i like, dont even know what to say here, but i was rereading scenes from this fic literally this morning because i just missed it. i think its such an interesting take on the characters, the plot points are engaging and feel well thought-out, the way everyone acts feels realistic for them, and it hits some tropes that are guilty pleasures of mine <33 i could read the hobby horses fighting with one another for 50 years if sabine was the one writing it. also the kids in the final chapter are so cute, i love them :(

YESSS SABRINA WAS SUCH A FASCINATING CHARACTER OMGG! even though we didnt get to see much of her shes so crucial to the plot despite dying a long time before the fic was set like she fr set off a chain reaction 😭

and the way you write characters is so impressive because jakehoon are pure EVIL but you had me somehow feeling BAD for them?? i was lowkey getting emotional in the scene where sunghoon was "sacrificing" himself for jake because i didnt know hed escape LOL

i absolutely adored the way you crafted sunghoon's relationship with sabrina. the way he imagined spending the rest of his life or at least multiple years with her and not wanting to kill her until he had to because she found out his secret omg.. he really did care for her even if it wasnt conventionally and more in a serial killer fasination type of way such as letting her be with him for the rest of her life (absolute genius btw) but also fulfilling her final wishes for her son, and i think that sunghoon showing his affection in his own twisted and fucked up ways was a MASTERPIECE and you should be incredibly proud of yourself like yes YOU did that‼️

i think part of the beauty of your writing is how conflicted you make the reader feel. i mean i personally felt bad for jake when he had to see his mother get raped and killed when the last thing on her mind was him. plus describing the things jake had to witness as a child makes you think that mayyybe hes not a bad person because he was conditioned to think in certain ways. but THEN you remember that his form of retaliation was killing and raping another woman to "get back" at sunghoon and he actually is a bad person and then you feel guilty for feeling sorry for him. its a constant switch between "its not his fault!" and "at this point he needs to take responsibility" and i actually found it very amusing because we KNOW jake is not a good person at all and yet we cant help but sympathise for him. along with the internal conflict i also love

and ANOTHER thing is that rereading sexcapade/dylidl was a completely different experience while knowing what would happen in the future. it might make me look strange but i found it funny that mc is so romantically attached to sunghoon and imagines a future with him because she has absolutely no idea whats in store for her..

okok FINALLY i just have a question - if you havent thought about it feel free to ignore but what do you think about jakes future? do you see him staying in contact with sunghoon and continuing to help his dad or do you imagine them taking separate paths now that sunghoon has to go in hiding? and if jake doesnt stay in contact with hoon, do you think he would leave the life of killing people behind him especially after seeing what happened to sabrina since his last murder was just to get back at his dad or do you think he would continue to rape and kill women?

stopppp i dont even know what to say 😭😭😭😭😭 THE!!!! CONFLICT!!!!!!! it’s like… jake never had a real chance at normalcy lol his mom got killed when he was 5 by his deranged serial killer father so ofc you wanna feel bad for him, but then homeboy grows up to be just as sick dhdhdhshjdhshh i dont know if i mentioned this in the fic? probably not but jake is kinda like a younger sunghoon? in the past, sunghoon was very impulsive/reckless (as evident in the way he killed martina). and jake reacts to literally everything on impulse 😭

there is a big difference too, though. i literally do not remember what i wrote but i’ll just say this anyway in case it was never mentioned. sunghoon likes the act of killing (strangling particularly). it gets him off, it makes him feel a spark. strangling someone to death is kind of intimate, if you will, considering 1) how much time/effort it takes and 2) the fact that he gets to literally feel his victim take their last breath. that part is electrifying to him. it’s mostly about the physical part.

but jake? i wouldn’t say that jake particularly likes killing. he doesn’t have a compulsion to kill like sunghoon does. when he attempted to kill christine, it was bc he was angry asfk and literally couldn’t stand her. when he killed dr. lee, it wasn’t necessarily all that personal; he wanted to get back at his dad (i told you guys before but jake is petty AS FUCK in this series lmfaooo). jake’s desire to kill comes from a place of deep-seated rage that festers over a period of time.

that said, he very much is capable of killing for other reasons. jake enjoys inflicting psychological torture. he doesn’t need to kill them; he would be perfectly fine with just watching them lose their fucking minds lol. the main reason i don’t say no to him becoming a serial killer is that like his father, he will get bored of his victims, and need to replace them, but it’s not like he can have the victim walking around with the memory of what he did. so yeah, he would have to eliminate them!!!!!

as for whether or not hoon and jake stay in contact, i don’t really think they would… it’s not that jake wouldn’t want to, i just think that sunghoon would avoid having direct contact with him because it’s better if they don’t (legal stuff). i do think, however, that he would have heeseung keep an eye on him though :))

i'll be honest, i haven't read toa (only short snippets when i want to see a specific scene), so i just read this article abt it, and it's frustrating that almost every example of diversity rick includes is riddled w harmful stereotypes. like, google is right there to help you avoid at least some! (psa to anyone else reading this, google "harmful [x] stereotypes" before making a character you're unfamiliar with!) the wwii stuff...rereading the series again like two years ago shocked me bc i had completely erased the entire plotline from my memory as a kid. some of these choices have me questioning the editors at the time, bc there were definitely things an editor should've pointed out if they were reading the full text.

rereading all of your analysis on aarmau, and I can say you are mostly right, but headed a completely different path than what’s deliberating in front of you. Honestly? i can respect that lolz , i think your interpretation of aarmau could of almost work if later lore of mystreet wasn’t written.

im 100% sure jess wanted do a complicated familial relationship between all of the lycans…but i dont she’s educated enough to really different dig deep into them since most of their issues are cause because being a upper class bipoc household who also have to deal with an ancient curse (that’s a LOT of political discussion for indie anime blocks).

My take, personally, it’s pretty evident that rachel and derek does care about aaron, and doesn’t see him as a nuisance. And i really wished jess didn’t slack off of with behind-the-scenes moments when writing important interactions. I’m not really a lycan parent defender that much either cus abusers can still love or care like a regular person, but it’s just distasteful she’s given those two such a quick redemption — and hopefully in the future they are written more throughly if we do get that mystreet rewrite.

for the lycans, i think she intended their relationship to be rocky but accidentally made it too bad and had to go back on it, especially because they were in part based on jason’s parents. their redemption and general treatment is just a symptom of bad writing, mystreet and minecraft diaries are horribly written and don’t handle any topics well. they don’t even commit to the lycans being bipoc even though they clearly are (flashbacks to the official aaron art that made his skin really yellow)

i’m not watching the mystreet remake if it drops but i do have to catch up on yellowjackets, i haven’t watched last week’s episode and another one out tonight, i liked the first two even if i think the series overall could thread the needle a little better
