Noticing how mxes is resisting/looks upset when it basically got kidnapped, do you think it’s AI could also have realistic emotions just like the glamrocks? It’s hard to be sure because if we’re going off with the theory (basically confirmed) that mxes existed in the 70s/80s I don’t know if tech that high would exist by then. Maybe Vanessa and Gregory upgraded it/programmed it to be like the glamrocks?

I love the idea that mxes is even a little sentient. I think they would have less range of emotion than the glamrocks, because the glamrocks visibly went insane after being stuck in the pizzaplex for like a year while mxes (if it was 3 star fams van) was trapped in the factory for like 60 years before getting taken and looks like they're fine

I think mxes would be the earliest example of a sentient ai (besides the mimic), because the funtimes were def sentient with no possession and that was like the mid/late 80s (in sl)? the funtimes felt pain and had the desire to leave and could plan and think and manipulate, but I think mxes is sentient enough to be able to think and want things but they just want to fulfill their purpose.

like, they could be sentient if they were updated I think, at least more than before, but I think they're a more simplified version of the kind of sentience the funtimes and glamrocks had. they're way more sentient youd ever expect a rabbit ai from the early 80s to be, but they arent borderline human like Freddy. they still have Robotic/digital qualities that Freddy would lose, and clearly seem content in ruin just sticking around there to keep the mimic trapped. that's why I think they have simpler wants and dreams than the glamrocks and funtimes. they were created to keep the mimic at bay and enjoy that purpose, while freddy was created to perform and be the face of Fazbear but he eventually grew to hate it

but anyway I think its totally capable of being sentient on it's own with fnafs track record of sentient robots/ais in the 80s. but I also dont think 3 star would update them to be more sentient bc. mxes wants what they want. and it isnt cruel to keep them how they are, and would probably be risky editing their code and programming since it's so old. theyd probably want to keep it anyway, in case mxes has old knowledge about mimic they dont. it's not for a sinister reason, but they DID take them to put in the pizzaplex to keep mimic trapped so. and with how 1 of 3 members is a robot that grew out of his purpose I think they wouldnt want that to happen. but mxes seems to want to anyway and their goals line up, so I think they wouldnt have done it

her kisses arent special, but they hold a lot of sentimental expression to both you and kanade. for her , leaving you quick pecks anywhere on your face is a way to express what shes feeling. is she proud? is she happy? did something happen? does she need attention? you’ll only know through her quick kiss on your cheek.

saw a poll the other day asking people if theyd prefer to watch a show with a bad plot and good characters or good characters and a bad plot. and honestly the premise And results were kind of puzzling to me (bad characters good plot was losing majorly even below "i can enjoy a bad plot AND bad characters")

on the one hand i understand the "i could do so much better with these character concepts" phenomenon, ive felt it myself, but havent people on here enjoyed stories with characters you arent supposed to blorbify. im not going into a junji ito comic expecting groundbreaking character work im here to see some weird shit happen around and to them. i think what people are imagining when they think "good plot bad characters" is like. intricately woven worldbuilding but its boring. Which is not what good plot means, to me,

& to expand on that, the gap in common understanding between "good/bad" and "boring/interesting" seems worth being more clear about in the first place, because if a character is flat on their own but serves their narrative purpose i wouldnt consider them bad. and if a character sucks to experience so much that im not interested in following them through the plot, i wouldnt really consider that plot Good? i dont know i think this website just has very low standards for media maybe. or everyones lumping in "plot was good when it started and then got bad" with "bad plot"

Out of curiosity, how does the skill grading work? Will we be getting a gift equal to or better than our artwork? Asking because out of honesty, I did not feel like I was paired with someone at my skill level.

This is a question we get a lot. Usually I avoid answering, because a lot of the time it's people trying to push us to disclose if we graded their art as "GOOD" or "BAD", which is totally not how it works nor is the purpose of our skill ranking system!! But considering how much more popular pairing people based on skill was as an option this year, and considering we will thus likely run it this way going forward as well, I'm willing to disclose aspects of our system.

These are my (the host's) guidelines copy and pasted from our mod chat:

"one is the lowest while five is the highest. when ranking i want you guys to consider the technical skill, how finished the works in their portfolio are, and consider the resolution their gift is at/the quality theyre able to share their gift. like if theyre decently technically skilled and their works are finished, but their art is all blurry because they draw at like 100x100 then theyd get marked down on the scale for that

were trying to be objective, of course. if youre deciding between one ranking or another, think about why specifically. we had great examples and explanations earlier from [mod] and myself should anyone want to see

take a participants entire portfolio into account, and try not to use preexisting knowledge of any participants capabilities, if it was not shown in their portfolio. this makes it fair between those we know/may be buddy-buddy with, and the rest of the strangers we are managing

ah and, be considerate towards a wide variety of art techniques and styles. what i mean is, dont just give higher rankings based on background/lighting/rendering, because plenty of super talented and technically skilled artists may not do backgrounds, or lighting, or rendering, or anything else along those lines

additionally, people who only offer writing/physical arts/other are just put in their OWN category, not on the number ranking scale. for those who offer drawings And another art, please mark it as [number]/[other art type]"

We ask for a portfolio, and maybe some people put art in it willy-nilly because they assumed we just wanted to know if they were capable of making a gift in the first place, but it matters a lot more than you think. There were some people who I personally knew were capable of making very large technically skilled pieces, but they only put small doodles and such in their portfolio, and out of fairness to all participants, I ranked them accordingly.

Sometimes people accumulate a small amount of incredible pieces over the years as well, and even if that's not an accurate representation of their typical art, I would rank them higher for that, because we rank people exclusively on what's in their portfolio.

This is also why we ask people to curate a portfolio instead of linking an art blog. If you only linked an art blog, your social media, or a gallery of every artwork you've ever made, we do take everything in your portfolio into account!

To answer your question, this system is far from perfect. I stated "technical skill" in my quoted response there, which is vague. Technical skill, as we define for this event, is not merely based on whether someone can do lighting, or express volume and texture, or naturalism, or anything else, because while those can be indicators of technical skill, we try to be open-minded and accommodating to all kinds of art styles and artists. To define how we rank via technical skill would be going into a lot of very complicated art philosophy and definitions (which to be fair, if you really pressed me, I could define in-depth for you. I'm in uni for fine arts, this is my niche).

If you feel like you weren't paired with someone of similar skill as yourself and feel disappointed by it, that's unfortunate, but it's also the nature of the event. We do try to pair people of generally similar skill levels, both giving and receiving-wise. Either you were paired with someone who was at a higher/lower end of your ranking bracket, or it was a quirk that comes out of inconsistently curated portfolios.

I'm disclosing this information in hopes it can bring ease to people in showing how much we care about being unbiased and fair in this event, to artists of all skill levels. These rankings are, for the record, not comfortable to assign to others in the first place by nature, and they're definitely not an indicator of whether one's art is "good" or "bad". The bittersweet nature of "passing" as a trans person

I have no regrets in my transition except this one thing which i find it hard to express bcs i dont wanna sound ungrateful for being a passing trans person.

my disclaimer to this post is: it is hard to be a non passing trans person and non passing trans people are far more vulnerable than passing trans people. Also passing is not every trans persons goal. Although it is one of my goals in my transition im not saying "i have it now i regret it" im just gonna say kinda like. a sadder side to passing.

pre T i would say i passed like 60% of the time to cis ppl and when i wasnt seen as a dude theyd always either ask my pronouns or like ask my gender (i live in a pretty liberal place). i was quite rarely out and out just misgendered like maybe 5% of the time in the basically 7 years i lived as a pre T trans person (not including ppl who misgendered me on purpose) but i was sooo clocky to trans people like i am a v socially awkward guy but i found it easy to make trans friends when i met trans people irl when i was pre T bcs they mostly knew and we kinda were drawn together.

Im now a year and 8 months on T and i love passing i pass genuinely 100% of the time even when im not binding (and i have a larger chest that im very dysphoric about) and i have a cis passing voice. I often have a lot of like. not imposter syndrome about it but i have bad dysphoria and often assume im not gonna pass when i do or assume i look more like a girl than i do. Also im 5'3 and have kinda long hair (not long but i used to have it super short and now its a bit longer) but im just seen as a cis guy. so like i am not pretending i dont love passing it makes my life soo much easier and lessened my dysphoria.

What i will say is i miss the immediate kinship of meeting another trans person or being in the same room as another trans person and both knowing ur trans or becoming friends bcs ur trans or automatically having someone to pair up w in a group of strangers bcs u both know ur trans. Also on nights out i miss meeting new ppl and just talking to each other about being trans bcs we automatically recognise each other. like i miss the solidarity u feel as a trans person when u seen another one rather than trans ppl assuming im cis and me actively making an effort to mention im trans around new trans ppl. also i miss that trans ppl used to feel automatically safe around me whereas now i know bcs im perceived as a cis man sometimes they feel on edge. idk its just bittersweet i think <3
