Slime Rancher x TMA?

Okay but seriously, imagine if Jon and Martin commit MAG 200 and just end up on Slime Rancher's Far Far Range. What then?

How It Would Work

Mistaken Identity as their alt selves or assuming the lives of their alt selves as they have completely replaced them

They both have separate farms on the Far, Far Range on opposite ends, and don't know where the other exactly is (they both think they're on distant islands to each other lol).

Martin becomes very adept with Slime wrangling in particular, but still remains an effective slime rancher in the ways of taking care of them. He adopts a particular Tabby (unbeknownst to him an escapee from Jon's ranch) and calls it 'Merry', and Merry stays by his side at all times.

Jon is very particular about only owning docile slimes like Pinks, Tabbies and Puddles, with a lot of his slimes being mixes with Tabbies because cats. He makes a sole exception for ONE Crystal-Tabby that he calls 'Calcite', who becomes a bit of a ranch defender Largo. It is so picky about what it eats or absorbs that there is zero risk for him to become a Tarr.

Jmart end up finding each other when Jon goes chasing after a Tabby-Phosphor with Calcite in an attempt to get it somewhere dark before daylight. Both are overjoyed to see each other obviously and immediately work together.

They have a teleporter between their ranches and help each other out with random tasks. They obvs can't combine ranches now, but they do lots of sleepovers at each other's ranches lmao,

Jon ends up going into Slime Sciences because duh of course he would lmao. He's the reason both farms have cannons to repel Tarr slimes.

They get therapy before even so much as thinking about advancing their relationship further because holy hell these dudes need it. (Therapy is already in swing at the start btw, I'm not delaying their roads to mental stability)

Relationships with Canon Slime Rancher Characters

Martin is the one who usually deals with Slime Market stuff because people like BOb exist.

Martin befriends Thora easier than anyone else due to her kindly nature. Let's give the man a nice older lady figure in his life to be a mentor.

Jon become notably friendly with Viktor Humphries, and they collaborate often since Jon has Martin and his own interest in slime collection to help him.

Both find Mochi a bit like Melanie at first, but warm up to her when they start to learn more about her (both can relate to strained relationships w/parental figures, especially Martin).

Both find BOb complexing and typically try to keep conversations curt lol.

Obvs because I'm not replacing Beatrix, they do meet her and are pretty neutral to her. Nothing extraordinary and nothing unextraordinary since Beatrix is more a proxy for the player so I can't gauge much on how she'd be without our interference.

Ogden & Hobson are also a neutral relationship but that's just because I can't think on how either of them and Jmart would work lol.

Likely Queries

Fears When?: No Fears in the Slime Rancher universe because I say so. The Fears just don't have influence here anymore haha. That means Jonah Magnus stays deceased.

How is Jon not like, barely sane or whatever (referencing the 'how much of me is the Eye stuff')?: Well, they did merge/overwrite their Slime universe counterpart so like... e.

Does Jmart retain Fear powers?: No. Maybe. I'm not sure tbh I think if anything it'd be subtle things. EG: Jon being able to identify certain things changed in an area or have a better grip on understanding body language. EG2: Martin being less noticeable when he wants to be or just having a bit of cold resistance.

Why can't they move in together?: Because I doubt the 7Zee Corp would be able to find a buyer for either ranch too quickly, but I could be wrong. Idk I like the idea of them having space of their own separate from the other since those dudes need therapy and time to work on themselves.

Do they look like themselves or their alternates?: Alts with the exception of MAG 200 injuries. The Alts just look like their S1 selves lmao.

SlimeRancher!Sasha, SlimeRancher!Georgie & SlimeRancher!Tim? Yes. None would properly notice a difference in Jon because he's more just their Jon with some weird ass baggage attached. Martin would DEFINITELY be something they'd note as 'unusual' but ultimately set it down to 'omg he's matured so fast having to deal with Jon lolol'. Sasha and Tim would be fellow Ranchers on another area nearby and Georgie either stayed on Earth or is a Tarr Wrangler with SlRa!Melanie.

What about the other Magnus people? Not sure, defs think SlRa!Melanie would exist as a Tarr Wrangler w/Georgie. SlRa!Elias would likely be on Earth still and just living his Pre-Eye life lolol. Sl!Ra Gertrude should be a rancher elsewhere that's just died but other than that idk.

Do any other Slime Rancher alts get their other worlds memories? Maybe Georgie and Melanie but only via 'oh wow that was a funky dream haha' since they were in the Panopticon. Elias doesn't count towards this since there was no more Elias by the time of the series' beginning (source: MAG 193).

The thing about JMart isn't that I think it's toxic or poorly written or came out of nowhere or any of that. Cause I don't. At all. When I take a break from drinking haterade, I do agree with a good few points people make regarding their relationship in season five. I don't want to, but I can give Martin little a grace. As a treat. When people aren't acting like he's morally in the right for every action he takes.

Because, though I think there is some veracity to not attributing malice in Martin's actions, the actions he does take DO show disregard for Jon's... everything. Because, though I do agree that they both take steps to purposefully not fall into the same habits, Martin adamantly refuses to believe Jon is trying. At all. And why do I think that? Why do I, in my heart of hearts, think there's no way for either of them to get any better when it comes to moving forward in their relationship?

Martin flat out tells Jon that he believes, in a world without the horrors they face, that they wouldn't even be able to stand each other. That Jon's best-case-scenario, the scenario that he's tied up all his hope into, the very idea that they could've been doing normal things as normal humans instead of whatever they became, was so far-fetched as to be something Martin had to bring him down from.

"No, Jon, we're both too unlovable on a fundamental level and wouldn't even find each other worth speaking to in any other world."

That's, essentially, what I hear when I think of that scene in the penultimate episode. Actually, I don't think Martin includes himself as being unable to be loved, cue the "I am Martin Blackwood" scene, but as I said I'm giving him grace in thinking he's not, as usual, putting all their problems on Jon.

This isn't even bringing in the 'trauma-bonding' mention, but that's also a sticking point for me when thinking about whether or not the two of them SHOULD even attempt to salvage a relationship with each other post-series, whether somewhere!else or not.

All the trauma they went through needed to MEAN something, to Martin, so he placed their relationship in that role. So the question begs, when adding in that quote above, what would've kept them together after Martin's 'kill Jonah, pull the lever, save the world, kiss the Archivist' dream scenario? The one he legitimately thought he was going to accomplish mere hours later? Without either of them needing to rely on the other in a world gone mad, without either of them needing each other to be sources of comradery when everyone else in the world can be, then why would Martin even stick around?

Nothing, according to Martin.

Course you could say that both of their insecurities would mean neither of them would see themselves as worthy of being with anyone else but each other. But that's not sustainable a foundation to build anything on. Especially if, god forbid, they go to therapy and develop any form of self-worth not tied to each other or their places in the apocalypse. Eventually something will give and I don't think many of the 'relationship growing pains' they went through will be that easily forgotten. Or forgiven.

Here's the point where I would point out how all the issues they had actually are mostly issues MARTIN caused by not listening to Jon when he said anything about anything at all, but as I said. Grace. So I won't. Just know, though, that the 'hurdles' they went through are uneven, in my eyes, at least, and I won't say no more.

I suppose, when it comes down to it, what I'm trying to say is... telling someone you love them. Means nothing. When you think that loving them. Can only be the result of total and complete psychological, spiritual, emotional, ethical, physical, and mental destruction of the very fabric of your being.

But yeah.

So we are seeing the fears from a different point of view, something not as cohesive as in TMA. While it is possible that they could be desires, we see that Needles feeds off the fear from their victim, and enjoys it. The doctor in Ep 3 is very reminiscent of Prentiss near the end, and Needles (Ep 6) seems to have a similar personality/ideals to the Distortion(s). We also see that the Violinist (ep 4) has qualities similar to Melonie King, who was also marked by the slaughter with the anger that they both hold. This very well could mean that the fears are the same as they once were, we are just seeing them in a different light. However, some episodes don't have specific distinctions between the fears. For example, the case in episode 7 fits between the Stranger (with the volunteers very similar to the students in Anatomy Class) and the buried (Dianne, who is writing the email is buried up heaps of different items, almost swallowed into the piles) and episode 8 is definitely coded both for the Lonley and the Flesh.. Could the fears be working together? In TMA, the Eye and the Web work together a little bit, in order to help the apolcolypse, but that was more of the Web sneakily helping the Eye as they had the same goals. Could this be something more possible now, with the fears more aware than they were in TMA? Maybe they now have a similar awareness as the Mother of Puppets in TMA. Or do they have to work together in order to get the same amount of fear as in TMA? Or could the fears be afraid something?

There are 4 characters important to the plot of TMA that we have not seen/heard about in TMAGP: Jurgen Leitner, Annabelle Cane, Elias Bouchard, and Jonah Mangus.

Leitner - The one who brought the fears to more people through his books. We know in TMA that he was killed by Magnus (in the form of Elias), but since the fire happened in Gertrude's time and Leitner's death came after, what happened to him? Does he exist in this universe? Is he alive? Where is he? Is there someone that is his alternative self in this universe (not him exactly, but they fill his role)? If he doesn't exist in this universe, does that mean less have been inpacted by the fears or is there another way that they have gotten through?

• Speculation - I think that Leitner in this universe is represented by Klaus, and the fears probably want him dead (the reason he was with Lena in ep 4). Like Leitner, it seems that he was in hiding for a while, before his confrontation with Lena.

Annabelle Cane - The last time we saw her in TMA, was near Hilltop Road. It would be out of character for her to leave the portal alone. Did she die in TMA or was she brought to this world with Jmart? Where is she? Could she have something to do with Fr3D1?

• Speculation - I think Cane is in the world, but hasn't revealed herself yet. She's probably in her humanlike form (not trapped in a computer) because of her proximity to the portal.

Elias Bouchard - His body was in the tower when John and Martin disappeared (although he had died long before). We also know that he is somehow related to Gwen. Is he her relative? Her father? Brother? Uncle? Cousin? Is he her either pre or post transition? Could he have been the Archivist instead of Gertrude? The possibilities are endless.

• Speculation - I think Elias is Gwen's older brother, who works for the Office and is above Lena. Maybe he's involved with the fears, but I like to think he's just a stoner. I also really like the theory that he is Gwen pre or post transition.

Jonah Magnus - While it is extremely likely that he is Augustus, what part does he play in thie universe? Is he staying low, defeated? Or is he trying to gain power? After all, in Ep 1 (statement 2), we have RedCanary, exploring the tunnels of the Institute and eventually, they get their eyes gauled out. While this could be John, it doesn't seem like something he'd do. Also, if John did take over RedCanary, why would he send Sam an email from inside the system instead of just talking to him? It's much more similar to Jonah, something he did in the past. What if RedCanary is the next body for Jonah Magnus?

• Speculation - I think Magnus, or at least part of him, is trying to come back through RedCanary, while he's trapped in the 'puter.

I want to talk about Gerry and Gertrude next. They are alive and well, which means that Gertrude somehow was not affected by the burning down of the Institute by quitting in some other way besides blinding herself or by having enough connection to the Eye were it didn't affect her as bad, or by not being the Archivist at all. Judging by the static when Gertrude asked questions and mentioned the Institute, I think the 2nd guess is the most likely. Also, the Institute had a gifted children program that Gerry was in, so I would assume his mother placed him in the program. I think this program was to root out kids marked by the Fears, and especially the Eye, that could be useful for the Fears in the future. Gerry also mentioned reading, could they have made the kids read Leitners? And why doesn't he remember much? Could it be trauma? Or could it be the Eye or Web? Or even possibly the Dark, since it is opposite to the Eye?

These are just theroies and TMAGP could be completed different from TMA, but I think the fears (and possibly Magnus) are definitely at play here.

The first character I first fell in love with: Jonathan absolutely. I guess its to be expected since he is the first voice we hear and hear most often at the start, but also he is SUCH a character. Even though he's a prick quite consistently he's an endearing one haha The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: GERRY KEAY... I liked him the first listen through, but sort of at a distance but now I'm like. SOOOO in the Gerard Keay fanclub whooo lets go Gerry The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I'm honestly not that fond of Tim? Like he just isn't my type of character I suppose, but I don't like hate him either. Just kinda could take or leave him The character I love that everyone else hates: honestly I feel like the characters are all rather loved equally, and there's none I favor that I've seen mentioned as hating. Like closest is how much I love Daisy and people sort of being like 'but dirty cop tho' sometimes The character I used to love but don’t any longer: None, my love for these characters is only intensifying as I keep re-listening LMAO The character I would totally smooch: GOD my list is very VERY long Damien!!!! I would kiss probably everyone,,, Like as dangerous as it would be I would love to kiss Jude Perry, Nikola, and even Jane Prentiss... I think all three deserve a kiss yes I do its true. The characters have such life and depth its kind of ridiculous, and each so unique. It's easy to imagine, even if two never meet, the kinda shit they could get up to x)

I literally just kinda explained in the comments of this post, but I'll do it again and probably a bit more long winded since I don't have a character limit lol.

The thing is I think it's actually kinda supposed to feel like Jmart came out of left field due to the medium of it being a podcast. We don't get the luxury of a stream of consciousness like we do in books or of body language like we do in movies. All we have is what the characters say, and as we know, characters love to lie (or just avoid talking about things).

We only know about Jon's dreams due to Jonah giving a statement about them, despite the fact that they probably started in season 1 either after the first statement or at the very least after Naomi's. Jon hates telling us things about himself. He only likes to talk about all of the stupid decisions he's making (ex. All of season 2). The only times we truly learn things about him are four times (3/4 being not from Jon himself).

1. The statement he gave about Mr. spider 2. Jonah giving a statement about his dreams 3. The person who made a statement about him taking a statement from her and 4. Him literally getting outed by Melanie to Bassira (which is a completely different topic but one I am just as passionate about). There are probably others that I'm forgetting, but you get the point.

Keeping this in mind, there's also the fact that even in Canon there are (typically) week long breaks between each recording. And with the implications of other recordings that we never hear (characters talking about how the recorders just seem to show up sometimes) we were never going to get the entire picture until it was relevant.

We were tangled in the siders web just as much as Jon was. The only things we hear are what are relevant, will keep us entertained, and wanting more.

Jon and Martin's relationship (and how it evolved) never truly became important until it was Jon's driving factor in season four. And so it makes sense that the first time we really hear about the possibility of romance in their relationship is when Jon is in the Lonley and we are curious enough to 'need to know'.

Martin saying, "I really loved you," is truly the first time that we plainly hear about the love that they hold for each other, not because it never came up, but because it wasn't relevant to the listener. You could argue that the conversation between Melanie and Bassira was actually the first time, but I would disagree. There is a difference between gossiping about a perceived crush and two characters looking at each other and plainly talking about their feelings (or as plainly as we get before season 5).

There are also things like the Pre-episode, Martin's Poetry (Epiphany in particular), and certain Patron audios*. The things that we glean from these recordings are things that we already have a want to know. We never would have had a need to hear them until the relationship between Jon and Martin solidified into anything other than 'a boss who hates his employee and the same employee being a pushover who wants to keep the peace'.

*I am thinking about the ostrich one in particular but mainly because I find it kinda cute and consider it a Jmart audio. You may not and that's okay.

Truly, it is a miracle that we know the nature of their relationship at all, especially considering all of the things that happen off screen in the Magnus Archives. If the Lonley had never happened or if Martin had said anything else in those moments I doubt that their relationship would have ever become a forefront of the recordings in season five. Perhaps leading their relationship to be mainly ambiguous until the very last moments. We the listeners would have had no reason to wonder at or be concerned for the state of their bond as these two men clung to each other, looking for some stability in the new world of fear and terror.

You know, for someone who has struggled writing essays even in grade school, I could truly write a dissertation on how Jmart didn't actually come out of left field, was truly always there, and how the arc actually makes a lot of sense for the characters and the medium of the story with how much I've been ranting to myself about it.

Reverse au cause i love that sweet archivist Jonah/Elias and Peter <3 Especially if it's them realizing they are in love or just plain going to pick Peter up from the lonely. God does it fill me with joy seeing it. Something about them still being far more morally gray than Jmart and yet still be in love being monsters <3<3<3

Something about Peter or Elias getting hurt somehow and the other being pissed off at anyone hurting the other and protecting them. I could eat that up instantly! Just monster husbands wrecking someone up for hurting their partner. How wonderful.

Oh!! You know how there is always monster Jon? Monster Elias panicking cause he suddenly and inexplicably doesn't look human anymore but Peter is like well shit, guess i gotta figure out how to smooch him because i still love this bastard. Curse beauty and the beast for making me like that dynamic. Would Elias become less monstrous the more he is anchored to humanity by Peter? Would Peter also be more human?? Who knows! Up to you.

Also it has so much angsty potential and then fluff i'm just- chef kiss!

Ohhh also another one is Beholding and Lonely shipping Lonelyeyes, they try their best to make them stay together, but Elias and Peter are terrified to admit they care, because they think it would show weakness, so they keep splitting up to the chagrin of their gods. fhskfd a reverse uno card would be Jon trying to kill Peter in s4 but instead it makes him confess how much he loves Elias making the lonely spit him out to say it to his face. Beholding lets him live and it basically sets them up together. Kudos to Elias for still winning and getting to stay comfortable with Peter in the panopticon.

That's basically it? I got a few more ideas but I'm going to eventually write those when i get the time and will to do it. I would be very happy to see anything you can think of dear Anon! I am just thrilled and surprised about people writing things for me!It’s very kind of you!

A list of my favorite theories before tomorrow in no particular order

Takes place during the 6 months Jon was in a coma. This one is fun but probably not likely because other than the Flesh attack on the Institute I don't think there was much going on

Post-eyepocalypse statements/accounts. Very likely because it's a sequel 'within the Magnus Archives universe' and a lot of people want Jon and Martin's end to stay ambiguous

Canon time travel fix-it sequel. Highly unlikely I just think it would be absurdly funny. Extra points for the office rom-com

Jon turns into a tape recorder. It would be a very interesting concept to explore him as a ghost or something similar. The more likely version of this would be that a new cast listens to his recordings in the past, so we still get Jon but we also still get the ambiguous ending

Jon and Martin navigating Somewhere Else. I would kill for more jmart I personally do not care about their ambiguous ending. Extra points if each episode is a different version of them in a different Somewhere Else. Maybe even different podcasts like Tiny Terrors. Pretty likely because Martin is in "Oh... Hello"

Jonah Magnus isn't dead. Or if he is dead, he is still in the continuation because of the same concept as the earlier theory of Jon being a ghostly artifact. Worryingly likely

Well... ok i lie, i have a list of one shots to make that i sort of keep kicking under the rug for more complicated stuff cause i hate myself apparently. I cant just make a short fluffy one shot nooo, i have to be complicated about it....

Anyways. I give you options? Pick what you vibe with most, to be honest i would just be absolutely thrilled to see any of them. Besides like i said maybe one day i can still do the rest so its cool.

Mermaid Au lonelyeyes, It actually is on my list of things to write for them but i keep pushing it back, due to work, time and other fics. Surprised there arent that many to begin with considering the sailor aesthetic.

Werewolf Peter Au, Listen my only reasoning is that i read the dumb werewolfs headcanons once and just- Peter being agressive with the mailmal as a human and clingy with Elias near the full moon sounded hilarious and fluffy. Just a giant dog stealing the bed and howling to wake up Elias at three in the morning because he wants pets during the full moon.

Elias is less of an ass and saves Peter from dying in a JMart paralell. No apocalypse, but two dumb men realizing that fuck they do have an anchor and maybe just maybe its not so bad.

Their entities ship them like fedex and are done with them not getting together for realsies, so they have to intervene by any mean possible to get them to admit how much they care and love each other. The other fears join in to help, the mother of puppets is having a blast seeing her little siblings trying and failing to work things out.

Reverse Au with Jonah's OgBody and Peter the assistant with happy ending?

Mm, otherwise anything soft? Or well as soft as it can be with this two idiots i suppose.

Ok! So this is happening, and we all have our own thoughts. I'm not gonna go into the dramaz because I am reserving judgement (read: tentatively hopeful) for the story. I don't agree with how they handled things, but that's not why I'm here.

Someone Somewhere Else finds the tapes and has to deal with the fears. This could go one of three ways as I see it, since we know they want to add JMart into the mix again. 1) JMart didn't make it but there's new tapes we didn't hear. 2) They made it Somewhere Else, survived, but lost their memories or 3)They either did or didn't make it but there is a JMart equivalent in the Somewhere Else universe already and whoever finds the tapes tries to get their help but they have no idea what's going on.

Jon and/or Martin become the next big evil thing Somewhere Else

My Thoughts:

Honestly? I think it has something to do with Somewhere Else. Especially with Johnny in this clip being like "trust no one" and "plan your escape." Or maybe that's just my wishful thinking haha. Anyway, love to hear your thoughts on the new TMA-2!
