"I can't believe you." Elena exclaimed, her eyes growing misty as you were getting ready to head out with Damon on a date. It hadn't even been a week since they broke up (something about her needing stability or some other bullshit) and you didn't care. All that mattered was getting through yet another 'poor me' moment without killing her and making it seem like an accident.

Seriously, what did your sister expect? That Damon was going to stay single for the rest of his days until she made a fucking choice between him and Stefan? Perhaps some of her betrayal stemmed from the fact that Stefan had also rejected her ass and had made it clear he didn't feel anything for her anymore. So now poor Elena had no one while you played with both brothers.

And it wasn't even 'playing' per se if they knew about the whole situation. You could fuck any of them, and they'll be fine with it—a thing you made clear to them when this whole thing started. You liked both brothers, but having to choose just one was unfair—they both had traits that attracted you, and if you couldn't have both, then you'll settle for nothing. Like eager children they agreed. The arrangement was abnormal to others, but for you it worked—you dated both brothers, they still hated each other (entertaining fights arising from their competitiveness on who you liked more, who was 'rocking' your world, etc.) Simple really.

"Save the tears for the pillow, sister. I’m really not in the mood—nor will I ever be—to entertain your pity parties." Pulling on one of Damon’s leather jackets, you smirked. You were a sight to behold—not only would Damon be eager to rip the clothes off you, but half the population would, too.

It was fun stirring the pot, watching Damon bare his teeth at anyone who thought they stood a chance. Jealousy was his kryptonite, and while a part of you hated targeting one of his insecurities, you always reassured him in bed of your devotion, loyalty, and love.

Yes, because at the end of the day, you loved both Salvatore brothers. This wasn't just some passing fantasy, nor was it some revenge scheme against your sister (though you did love tormenting her with the fact that you were dating the two). You were willing to throw away your human life to become a vampire—to spend eternity by their side.

"Why are you doing this to me? What have I ever done to cause this!" Now there was the Elena you knew all too well—the one who constantly placed themselves as the victim, putting blame unto you because who could ever hate a girl who lost her parents?

You let out a humorless laugh, crossing your arms over your chest. “You really want to go there?” you snap, not bothering to hide the derision in your voice. “Fine. For starters, you’ve always made Jeremy and me feel like shit, and the few times you did act like a decent human being were just so you didn’t look like a total bitch.”

“That’s not true!” she protests, anger tightening her features.

“It is, Elena,” you spit back. “When our parents died, you didn’t do a damn thing to help us cope. You were so wrapped up in your own grief, your own fucking melodrama, that you never once checked on Jeremy or me—unless, of course, it was to nag us about how we were coping. When Jeremy started doing drugs, you freaked the fuck out. Not because you cared, but because you were afraid of how it might make you look. God forbid anyone sees that the 'perfect' Elena Gilbert can’t keep her family together or help her brother kick his drug habit.”

She flinches, but you weren't done. Oh, no. You were just beginning to go down the list of why you hated her ass. "Then, when I began to hook up with Damon, you acted like I was the cause of our parents death—no, that's on you because Elena couldn't help herself and got drunk, needing a ride home at midnight. Sleeping with Damon was like I'd personally betray you."

Her cheeks flush crimson. “Well, you did! You—”

“I did what, Elena?” You take a step forward, towering over her. “I moved on? Found something that might actually make me happy? Meanwhile, you’ve been stringing both Damon and Stefan along for God knows how long. You made your choice—you dumped Damon, tried getting back with Stefan, when he told you to fuck off, you tried going back to Damon and he said the same thing. So now you’re standing here, arms crossed, lip trembling, trying to put the blame on me because you lost your backup plan.”

Her lips press into a thin line, eyes brimming with tears. But you’ve seen this act before—she’ll blink prettily, glance away like a wounded animal, and wait for you to console her. Only this time, you won't.

“You are an asshole,” she hisses, eyes narrowed into slits. “He was mine first.”

That makes you laugh, a harsh sound echoing off the hallway walls. “Right...possessive much? People aren’t property, Elena. He’s not a damn handbag you lend out when it suits you. If Damon wants to be with me, that’s his call. And if I want to keep him, that’s mine.”

She trembles, either from anger or heartbreak—you can’t tell, and frankly, you don’t care. “Why would you do this?” she asks again, her voice cracking. “What have I ever done—”

You rolled your eyes so hard you got a slight headache. "Did you even listen to me? I have every reason to hate you, so does Jeremy and the rest of Mystic Falls. Those who continue to stand by you are either stupid or hope they'll get some attention from your desperate ass. I'm done. I’m done letting you guilt-trip me. I’m done tiptoeing around your precious feelings. I’m fucking over it, Elena.”

Just then, Damon appears in the doorway, that trademark smirk on his face. “Ready?” he asks, taking in the tension between you two. His gaze flicks to the tears glistening in her eyes before returning to you. “I’m guessing we’re skipping the family therapy session?”

“Therapy? More like the mandatory guilt trip, which I’ve politely declined.”

Elena’s voice wavers, “Damon, how can you just—”

He cuts her off with a raised hand, posture casual but his eyes dangerously dark. “Stop, Elena. What we had is over. You made that choice before, remember? I’m done letting you waltz in and out of my life whenever it’s convenient for you.” You can practically feel the hatred radiating off her in waves. She’s not used to being shut down, especially not by Damon, the semi-reformed bad boy who once hung on her every word. It must sting. Oh, well. Her loss.

“As much as I loved talking to you, sister, I do believe we're running late. Don't wait up and please, if you're going to continue crying, leave my room. Keep wallowing if you want. Hell, cry yourself a fucking river. Just don’t stain my carpet.” Without another glance at Elena, you brush past Damon, and he steps aside for you to lead. He follows, closing the door behind you both, leaving your sister alone in her silence.

You descend the porch steps and greet the night air with a sigh of relief, reveling in the silence that isn’t tainted by Elena’s incessant whining. Damon slips an arm around your shoulders, guiding you toward his car parked beneath a streetlamp. His touch is warm, confident—like he’s proud of the chaos you’ve left behind.

“She’ll get over it,” he says, glancing at you with one of those trademark smirks that used to make Elena weak at the knees. Now, it just fuels your own sense of dark satisfaction.

“She’d better,” you mutter. “I’m not putting up with her drama anymore. If she wants to play the victim, she can do it alone. I’ve got better things to do.”

Damon’s grin widens. “That’s the spirit. So, where are we headed, anyway? We never actually nailed down the specifics.”

You shrug, placing an arm around his waist and snuggling closer to his side. “Anywhere but here. Got a craving for something stiff—drink or otherwise.” The innuendo doesn’t slip past him. His eyes flash with interest, and you can’t deny that thrill you get from watching Damon Salvatore light up over you instead of your sister.

“Sounds like the Grill for starters,” he suggests with a casual tilt of his head. “They might have a halfway decent bourbon I can drown myself in. As for the ‘otherwise,’ well…” He lets the sentence hang, the possibility of later events sparking arousal for the both of you.

You’re about to respond when you spot Stefan leaning against Damon's Camaro. Typical. Even without super-hearing, you know he’s probably caught every word you exchanged with Elena. Damned vampires. "What are you doing here?" Damon was the first who spoke, hand tightening over your body. As if he was a child preventing his favorite toy to be taken away from him.

"Nothing, really. I was just walking around the neighborhood and saw your car parked. But now that I see you're here with my boyfriend, I guess I have time to join you two at the grill."

"Our boyfriend."

You simply laugh at Stefan’s innocent tone, shaking your head at the absurdity of it all. Just a few minutes ago, you were telling off Elena and storming out of the house. Now you’re pinned between two vampires—both of whom are technically yours, and you are theirs. Welcome to the wonderful, fucked-up world of Mystic Falls.

“‘Our’ boyfriend,” you echo, looking from Stefan to Damon. “Are you two seriously going to argue semantics right now? Pick a damn fight over who saw me first?” A scoff escapes you as you shrug off Damon’s possessive grip just enough to stand on your own. You’re not some chew toy they get to tug-of-war over.

Stefan cocks a brow, his expression cool but laced with a hint of smugness. “I’m not here to fight,” he says, his gaze flicking to Damon. “Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t excluded. Last time I checked, this was a joint arrangement.”

Damon’s jaw clenches. Clearly, he remembers crashing your date with Stefan last week—and how you’d had to smooth over the tension in ways that involved very little clothing and a lot of apologizing on his part. “We’re not excluding you, Saint Stefan. But we do have plans that don’t involve your pensive brooding.”

Stefan straightens, crossing his arms over his chest. “Oh, so your plan is to get drunk at the Grill and then…whatever else…” He waves a hand dismissively, “doesn’t appeal to me?” He tilts his head in mock curiosity. “You sure about that?”

You snort. “Children, please. If you both really wanted to rip each other’s heads off, you’d have done it ages ago. Let’s just go. All this talk is making my head hurt.”

Damon lets out a dramatic sigh, rolling his eyes. “Fine. But if Stefan starts preaching about morality or—God forbid—Elena, I’m leaving him to pay the tab.”

Stefan’s smirk grows. “I’d pick a better conversation starter than Elena, trust me.”

You give an unimpressed half-smile. “Don’t even mention her name. As far as I’m concerned, she doesn’t exist unless she’s blocking my path to a stiff drink.”

That shuts both of them up. They exchange a quick glance—some silent vampire communication or whatever—then Damon jerks his head toward the passenger door. “Shotgun’s yours,” he says to you, ever the gentleman when it comes to seating. To Stefan, he adds begrudgingly, “Guess you can squeeze into the back...or the trunk.”

Stefan’s lip twitches like he’s fighting off a retort, but he says nothing. Instead, he silently moves to the rear door. You can’t help but grin. It’s absurd that they both share you yet still bicker like five-year-olds over the smallest shit. But hey, maybe that’s part of the charm.

Once inside Damon’s Camaro, you sink into the leather seat, adjusting your legs as you feel Stefan’s presence behind you. The tension is thick—crackling with desire, frustration, and that constant competition. You kind of love it. Damon revs the engine, and the car peels away from the curb.

“Any chance we can make this a quick pit stop at the Grill?” you say, your gaze shifting between them. “I need something to eat, maybe a drink or two, but I’m not really in the mood to fraternize with the entire damn town.”

Damon flicks you a sidelong glance. “Someone’s impatient. Looking to skip straight to dessert, sweetheart?”

A grin tugs at your lips. “I’d just rather not get cornered by whichever idiot wants the latest gossip on Elena’s meltdown.”

Stefan leans forward, resting his forearms on the front seats. “We can be in and out in under thirty minutes. Grab some wings, maybe a bourbon—or three—and leave.” He lowers his voice suggestively. “After that, I wouldn’t mind some privacy.”

Damon makes a sound of reluctant agreement. “Deal. But don’t whine when you realize your tolerance is way lower than mine, Brother.”

Stefan just smirks. “Don’t worry about me, Damon. Worry about yourself.”

The quick banter settles into a charged silence as the lights of Mystic Falls blur by. The neon sign of the Grill soon comes into view, and Damon maneuvers into a parking spot with practiced ease.

“Let’s get this over with,” you mutter, pushing the car door open. “I’m not about to waste my entire night entertaining half-drunk townspeople.”

Stepping onto the sidewalk, you can already see a few familiar faces through the window—Caroline, Matt, maybe Tyler. You can’t be bothered to care. The only drama you want tonight is the kind that ends in moans, not tears. And if Elena hasn’t slithered over here yet, you might just get your way.

Damon slides an arm around your waist possessively again, and Stefan eyes the gesture with an annoyance that’s as old as time. You sigh inwardly. No matter how many times you remind them you belong to both, they still can’t help but try to stake their separate claims. Vampire pride, maybe.

As you head inside, the ambient chatter and smell of bar food envelop you. A few heads turn—this is Mystic Falls, after all, and you’re making a very public entrance with both Salvatores. Let them stare. Let them talk.

“Your usual table?” Damon asks, raising an eyebrow.

“Yes,” you say. “Let’s just grab a seat and order. I’m fucking starving.”

The three of you slip into a booth. Damon slides in beside you, Stefan on the opposite side. A cute server looks mildly flustered as she hands out menus. You can see her eyes flick between Damon and Stefan, likely recalling the messy history each has with Elena. If she notices you’re with them in a more intimate sense, she doesn’t comment. Probably for the best.

“So,” Damon says, flipping open the menu, “bourbon and wings? Or do we want to start with something stronger?”

Stefan doesn’t bother with the menu. “I’ll have what you’re having,” he says with a forced casualness, drumming his fingers on the table. He’s clearly aware eyes are on you three. You can practically feel the tension rolling off him—like he’s waiting for the next potential disaster.

You roll your eyes at the both of them. “Bourbon’s fine. Then if someone pisses me off, we can move on to whiskey shots until I forget this entire night.”

Damon flashes that trademark smirk. “You, pissed off? Shocking.”

Stefan snorts, finally cracking a faint smile. “I’m sure we’ll manage to avoid any drama.”

A short, barking laugh leaves you. “In this town? With the three of us in the same damn booth? Doubtful.”

But you push aside the building dread. Because at least you’re here on your terms, Elena’s sob story is miles away, and you have both Salvatores at your side—bickering, sure, but ultimately yours. And that realization, twisted as it might be, makes a satisfied grin curl your lips. With a raised brow, you signal the server for your order. Let the vultures talk, let Elena sulk. You’ve got bigger, better things to do tonight—and two vampires to do them with.

“Bring on the bourbon,” you say, leaning back. “I’ve got all fucking night.”

Gabriel and Beelzebub put each other first. Y'all sound salty as hell cuz two people managed to work their relationship out and yours didn't work out. "But if they didn't get together---" y'all really saying shit like this??? Do you hear yourself? That's so sad. Wishing for the doom of one LGBTQ+ ship cuz the other fucked themselves over. THEY CAN BOTH CO-EXIST. And you know what? They will. Cuz Ineffable husbands is clearly canon, the story just wants time with them cuz they're the main characters, not like Beelz and Gabriel who were side characters so had their story summarized.

3) "that should have been ineffable husbands" no, cuz Crowley and Aziraphale aren't Gabriel and Beelzebub. They're different characters with different backgrounds, personalities, relationship structure, and different relationship dynamic in general. They'll get together in a way that fits THEM. And that way requires ups and downs that makes them finally understand that they're perfect for each other without the need for either of them to change.

4) Gabriel was such an asshole wish Crowley got his revenge and--- bla bla BLA : Crowley was happy for them. You hold a grudge over Gabriel that Crowley himself doesn't. Y'all worse than a literal demon. Smh.

Be happy for what we got and look forward to the future where ineffable husbands will certainly become canon and it'll be worth the wait. Don't tear down the LGBTQ+ presentation we got just cuz the main ship didn't get the limelight THIS TIME.

It's so gross seeing people imply that we aren't really trans. Our dysphoria is minimal discomfort at most, apparently. I've seen people post about and imply that transmascs will never understand not feeling like a person or being unable to live a life pre transition and that's why we have privilege, i guess - are you kidding me? I'm answering the questions posed in their lily discussion post, my answers are in bold.

Marauders Era - Before School

What do you think her childhood was like? How do imagine her parents? Snape’s memory of her as a child, suggests she knew about her magic from a young age and was practicing controlling it effectively without a wand?Compared to other characters do you think this implies she was very magically talented? Why? Why not? 

My headcanons about Lily start with her class background. I often see Lily depicted as middle class compared to Snape's working class, but I personally think that she is only the barest step above him in terms of class status, and is working class herself. I headcanon Lily's parents as WWII veteran turned factory worker Roger Evans, from a working class family somewhere not Cokeworth who got a job at the Cokeworth mill and married a Cokeworth girl, homemaker Geranium Evans (who he's a little older than). The 'class difference' is literally that Roger is employed (until Lily's later years at Hogwarts, when he is laid off from the mill amidst Britain's industrial downturn) while Tobias Snape isn't. This precarity makes Roger and Geranium cling to class markers, they are striving for the impossible middle class and like to think themselves above the likes of the Snapes. The Evanses are patriotic and 'respectable'. Geranium values a neat home and cares a lot about her daughters' appearance. Roger is a bit xenophobic tbh. Lily is to some extent their favorite as the younger daughter, especially after she gets her Hogwarts letter. She is essentially viewed as the one who will make it out, the family's ticket to middle class respectability, which puts a lot of pressure on her. Lily does well in school but is a little socially awkward with her main friend being Snape. She spends much of her pre Hogwarts childhood hanging out daydreaming with him. She's kind of a romantic and enjoys fantasizing about a different life. A lot of what she and Snape do as kids is indeed practicing magic: they are probably making potions before her Hogwarts letter. She is often left to her own devices as her parents can't afford any sort of extracurriculars and her mother is often busy visiting her sisters who also live in Cokeworth. She's not popular among her classmates, seen as a bit weird and always hanging out with that one Snape kid, but she doesn't care if she's seen as weird because she has Snape and Petunia. She and Petunia are competitive but caring in their childhoods and Petunia sometimes tags along to her and Snape's adventures. Petunia and Snape however cannot stand each other and are constantly competing for Lily's affection. Lily doesn't recognize this as a kid, she's a little willfully oblivious to their rivalry until Petunia grows obviously distant from her after Hogwarts. And yeah, Lily has unusual levels of magical control and understanding of her own magic, she's a prodigy.

She also talked to Snape about his home life, as an under eleven, what does this suggest about her character? 

Lily is both romantic and practical in my head. She's clear eyed and can recognize that his home life is awful and does her best to provide a sanctuary for him (complicated by the fact that her parents really don't like him and don't want her involved with him) but also doesn't fully understand how bad it is and kind of has this idea that her friendship will 'balance it out' for him. She is kind and wants to help people but is also not always aware of the most effective way of helping.

Marauders Era/First War - School

What do you imagine her friendship with Snape was like in their early years at Hogwarts? How do you think Lily felt about him being sorted into Slytherin? What do you think she thought about her own sorting into Gryffindor?

Codependent as fuck tbh. They are each other's only close friend really and they are both happy like that. They spend a lot of time fucking around with magic together. She is honestly disappointed to not be sorted into Slytherin initially, but is soon warned about the nature of Slytherin by other Muggleborns and realizes she's better off in Gryffindor, and develops a Gryffindor identity. She views Severus as the 'one good Slytherin' and willfully ignores those Death Eater connections. She'd had an image of her and Sev's friendship as being unbreakable before Hogwarts but him being sorted away from her is the first crack in that image--she doesn't realize that fully until she has to do the postmortem of their friendship post SWM.

Having been horrified by his of father is somewhat mollified by his glimpse of his mother in OoTP? His mother had been decent. How do you feel about what we see of her?

Yeah, she seems like a great person, kind, funny, and brave. She is a fundamentally decent human being! Of course I also think she needs to have her flaws, we just don't really see them in canon.

Slughorn provides us with more information about Lily; One of the brightest I ever taught. Vivacious, you know. Charming girl. I used to tell her she ought to have been in my House. Very cheeky answers I used to get back too.This makes her sound much more like Fred and George than Percy. How do you think she was as a pupil, prefect and Head Girl? What do you imagine her priorities were at school? 

So Lily is interesting in school for several reasons. One is that she's pretty unique among the other Muggleborns of having had a lot of pre Hogwarts exposure to magic so she comes in at a higher level compared to her direct peers (normally automatically disadvantaged by being eleven years behind), and honestly she has a better understanding of magic than most pure blood students too. Oh, and she's also super smart. She and Snape are so far above the other students that often their classes don't really register it's so low level, lol. Similar to James and Sirius honestly. Lily was also taught to be polite and to present herself well to authority figures by her parents. So she coasts by in school without needing to try all that much and doing higher level work on her own fucking around with Snape on the weekends, but she presents well and professors don't really realize she doesn't need to put in much effort. Basically she comes across as better behaved than she is, too, she seems like she has it together when she really doesn't. She also actively tries to get the prefect position, she knows it will help her future as a Muggleborn. So Lily is popular among her teachers, who don't actually see her internal struggles and the fact that she isn't actually popular among her peers and is..actually a delinquent lol. She occasionally skips if she and Snape have weird magic to fuck around with and professors assume she's sick, she and Snape do drugs and the teachers have no idea. She takes her prefect position semi-seriously, when it involves like moral leadership, such as anti-bullying, supporting other students, and also the fun projects prefects occasionally have to do. But she won't really punish a snogging couple or be super conscientious about her rounds and boring duties. As Head Girl she feels a lot of impostor syndrome especially as she knows the professors have a false ideal of her, but she also feels a political commitment to be the best head girl she can be and tries to use her position to lead anti-fascist efforts at Hogwarts, which doesn't work as well as she'd like.

In Snape’s memories the only mention of another girl around Lily’s age is Mary MacDonald. Do you imagine Lily was friends with her? Who else do you imagine she was friends with? 

OOH OK I love this question. I headcanon Lily as someone who seems more popular than she is. For most of her time at Hogwarts, she has one close friend, Snape, and then more peripheral casual friends who she hangs out with if Snape is off with his other Slytherin friends. And honestly? A lot of people see her as a Death Eater apologist due to her relationship with Snape and she has to make a new name for herself after their friend breakup. Mary Macdonald is her dormmate and one of these..honestly the only one of Lily's friends (until after Snape) to be at an equal level with her as Lily generally befriends either older girls like Marlene McKinnon (who I headcanon as 2 years above her and Lily's prefect and mentor) or younger girls she mentors. Another casual friend of Lily's is Ravenclaw Pythia MacLeish, a bit of a Seer who Lily knows from Ancient Runes class and isn't as close to her as Mary but they talk about magic sometimes (Pythia is the significantly younger sister of Pandora MacLeish Lovegood). Lily makes most of her friendships over shared intellectual interests, lol. Mary and Lily have a significant falling out when Lily takes Snape's side after Mary's attack, and Lily has to spend a lot of time repairing that relationship through her sixth year. Of Lily's female friends the most emotionally significant for her is an OC of mine called Evelyn Riddle, who is another Muggleborn Gryffindor in Lily's dorm, who sort of assumers they will automatically be friends. They aren't. Evelyn is a strong personality and Lily is also a strong personality, and they clash. Evelyn amasses a clique of other girls and is kind of Lily's rival, though they are generally cordial--just get on each other's nerves. One of their main conflicts is that Evelyn, who is of a much higher class status than Lily, judges Lily's friendship with Snape as bad for the broader Muggleborn cause (which Evelyn has very reductive and naive ideals about lol). Evelyn also wishes she was made prefect and resents Lily a little for that (and honestly might have done a better job since she is less lax about the rules and doesn't spend all her time getting high making weird potions in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom). Lily thinks Evelyn is condescending and can't understand her because of their class difference and can't understand her friendship with Snape. However, after SWM Lily and Evelyn actually start seeing each other more clearly and working together, and they end up challenging each other and influencing each other. Evelyn is also an Order member and her and Lily often worked together in the Order. By the end of the war, Evelyn and Sirius would probably be Lily's closest friends.

Marauders Era/First War - Jily

It is clear from OoTP that James fancied Lily and she was not impressed by him when they were in fifth year. Remus and Sirius reassure Harry that James matured and she changed her opinion of him in seventh year. How do you imagine that happened?

I think it was several things. First was that she became friends with Sirius in her sixth year, and this made her think more positively of James. Second was that the end of her friendship with Snape made the war feel a lot more real for her, as she'd otherwise kind of had this fantasy of it not affecting her personally though knowing intellectually it would, and she admired James' anti-Voldemort commitment and was a lot less positive towards Snape and his Slytherin Death Eater friends so James fighting them looked more like war than bullying as they all got older and it became obvious that Voldemort was recruiting the Slytherins. Third was that she and James had to work together as Head Boy and Girl and did a lot of projects to try and fight Voldemort's influence and bring the student body together and they bonded. Fourth was that..well, Lily has a pragmatic side, and was not immune to societal messaging that told her to get married quick and he was there and into her and also had a very advantageous social position.

Do you imagine James told her about being an animagus? Do you think he told her about the Marauders Map?

Oh my god yes. She ate that shit up. The Map was what truly impressed her with James and might well have gotten her to marry him.

What do you think James and Lily’s relationship was like? Sirius describes him as hiding his dislike of Snape better once they got together, does that imply a lack of honesty between them? 

I want to think they were happy, though it can be interpreted as a dysfunctional relationship with lacking honesty and iffy dynamics, or as a romance. I hope they were happy, though it varies depending on what universe I headcanon out. I'm also mostly interested in Jily to get Harry, lol, as James just isn't a super interesting character to me.

Marauders Era/First War - After School

How did she get into the order? When? What do you head canon she did for them? 

As I said earlier, Lily was an unusually talented student and stuck out to her professors (who didn't realize the extent of her dabbling in dark magic and illegal activity lol). So she seemed like an obvious recruit to Dumbledore as a sort of exceptional Muggleborn, who was 'well-behaved' (LMAO NO) and looked respectable and also clearly very smart, though he didn't realize HOW smart she was. But the younger members of the Order (people like Evvie Riddle!!) DID realize that Lily was, well, a magical genius on a level with Snape. And so Dumbledore didn't give her much to do except play the good, politically acceptable, assimilable Muggleborn and do a little spying at her job as a shady potion brewer at a shady AF Knockturn shop. What she actually did was crazy magical research, inventing and brewing an energy potion that would have been banned if the wrong people had learned about it and other extralegal genius stuff. The Order's Unspeakables wanted her to join the DOM. For a while Lily had wanted to be a Healer, but she didn't want to take the Healer's Oath (which requires you to never cast any offensive magic again in my headcanon) because of the war. She could have lived off of James' money but chose to get a job for her own sense of self worth and independence and also because she felt pressure to support t her parents (her father was unemployed by this point) until they eventually died (probably due to the war, haven't worked out the details yet though). Had she lived longer she would have been a serious magical scholar and experimenter, and some of the things she invented for the Order are still being used in the modern HP canon.

According to extra-canon sources, Voldemort tried to recruit Lily and James? How do you imagine Lily responded? 

She was mostly horrified, but at the back of her mind a little bit flattered.

What was the first war like for her before the prophecy? Was she scared, proud, regretful, or dutiful about having joined the order? 

Lily was pretty proud of joining the Order, and remained so for the rest of her life, since she saw it as fully resisting Voldemort and doing her part to create a better world (Lily was part of the faction of the Order that was pretty anti-Ministry as well and wanted to go further in fighting pureblood supremacy alongside Voldemort). However, she also struggled with the stress of combat, PTSD, hiding really sucked for her, she felt underutilized by Dumbledore especially once she was in hiding and had fewer chances to do stuff on her own or share what she was doing, and she was also deeply upset by whatever happens to her parents (not entirely sure yet).

Some interpretations see James and Lily as important ideologically and symbolically for the order (the pureblood and the muggleborn in love and harmony). Do you think that’s true? How do you imagine that pressure impacted on their relationship?

If they'd lived longer this might have become the case, but it wasn't really true at the time considering the level the war was at when they joined (very high intensity). By the time Lily and James were involved, the war was at its worst and they were long past public relations stunts and symbolic warfare. Also they weren't really prominent Order members and the Order itself wasn't well known in broad wizarding society.

James appears to put her on a pedestal, how do you imagine that impacted their relationship? 

I would have hoped he got over it, but if it continued..yeah definitely difficult for them. But Lily is also used to being put on a pedestal. Sadly that kind of idealization is normal for her and she's used to coping with it. So she would have hidden the darker parts of herself and played up to his fantasy and maybe eventually snapped.

We know that she, not James, wrote Sirius a letter in early August ‘81, what do you think her relationship was like with Sirius, Remus and Peter?  

Ok so Sirius is her bestie. I am a firm believer in Lilypad BROTP. She dislikes him for five years while he actually quite likes her but also gets pissed off at her when she goes against him and James, they become friends in her sixth year after bonding over Muggle music and weird magic shit, and they honestly have a more equal relationship than she had with Snape and possibly with James depending on how positive I'm feeling about James/Lily that day.

Remus and her have a good working relationship as co-prefects, though they also kind of look down on each other as James and Snape's toady respectively. As she gets closer to Sirius she improves her opinion of him somewhat and they sometimes work together in the Order (though not often bc he's off spying). On one hand she respects him for persevering through anti-werewolf prejudice and the full moons (in a kind of magic disability way on her part), on the other hand she thinks he tends to avoid responsibility for his own actions (a trait she sometimes has and tries to work on in herself). So she and Remus are never super duper close. I'm not decided whether she thinks he's a spy but she might have.

Peter is kinda there. He really doesn't like her because she spoils his ideal of the Marauders friend group and his dislike for her leads him down a route of anti-Muggleborn prejudice. Lily tries to be nice to him at first, and she does notice he's very smart in a way overlooked by his friends, but she also thinks he has a terrible personality and notices his growing bigotry. She also doesn't notice his skill as a manipulator and looks down on him. it is possible he is able to manipulate her into believing Remus is the spy.

Marauders Era/First War - Harry

Why did Lily and James have child so young in the middle of a very scary war? How do imagine Lily felt once she learnt about the prophecy? 

TBQH I imagine Harry was an accident. Lily then decided fuck it YOLO I might as well take my chance to have a child, since who knows if I'll live long enough otherwise (she's nineteen and still self-centered here lol). She was scared, but also wanted the opportunity of having a child and also wanted to repair her broken nuclear family by replacing them with Harry.

What do you imagine it was like having a child in such fraught circumstances? 

It sucked. Especially as she couldn't go out and see anyone and get a fucking break, and most of her female friends were dead or not having kids yet so she didn't have mom friends(Evelyn's oldest daughter is Demelza Robins who was born a couple years after the war, Mary wasn't having kids and I think she and Lily grew apart after school, and Alice Longbottom, the other mother in the Order, was much older and never close to Lily at all). But she also enjoyed certain parts of it and had fun. Like it was kind of like having a fun doll for her at points? But then the crushing reality of having brought a child who might be doomed into the world would intrude and he'd be crying and it sucked again. There was, however, a tiny bit of pride in that it was her kid that might defeat Voldemort, buried under all of the horror . She spent a lot of time coming up with fail-safes in case Voldemort got to Harry, never fully thinking she'd have to use them.

How do you imagine Lily reacted to motherhood?  

She missed her own mother and her sister very much. She had complicated feelings and often felt out of her depth, though there were also parts where she was able to pretend Harry was a fun doll LMAO. She loved him intensely but often had no idea what she was doing.

How do you imagine What do you imagine the last thing she thought as confronted Voldemort over Harry’s cot? What are your head canons about her thought/action process?

Resolve. I fully headcanon that Lily had created a fail-safe in the event the Fidelius was broken to use her own death to kill Voldemort (by this point she was pretty paranoid). She didn't want to die and desperately didn't want her baby to die, but she also knew that if she played it right she would activate the ritual and possibly save Britain from fascism.

Canon Era and After

What would she have been like as a mother if she'd lived? 

She would have tried her best, and probably being able to go out of the damn house, get another job, and have mom friends would have helped. But she would be pretty imperfect! Also there probably would have been some point where she would have realized she made a whole ass real human and had a breakdown. Especially given she's insanely smart and Harry, much as I love him is average--she would have been frustrated at how 'slow' he seemed and had trouble relating to him on occasions. Her teenage problems were different enough from his that it would be hard for her, and she might have some misconceptions about him as a person (as she has a tendency to sometimes idealize people and willfully ignore what she doesn't like) that she would have to undo. She also is ambitious and intellectual and might have occasionally guiltily felt having a kid was holding her career back.

What job would she have gotten if she'd survived? 

Like I said, crazy magic researcher--possibly an independent scholar, possibly an Unspeakable. Maybe a Healer if the war had ended and she was certain Voldemort was dead. Especially if she felt very guilty about all the Death Eaters she'd killed.

How would James and Lily’s relationship have developed if they had lived? 

It depends on how I'm feeling about their relationship. I generally think they would have stayed together and maybe had more kids, but there are definitely universes where they broke up.

What is modern AU Lily like?

Politically active, probably some kind of scientist. Also probably not married and doesn't have a kid.

Cuz surely a loser coded girl saving Olympus is just a fluke and she needs to be put in her place by capable men😒

With Sylus, he comes right out of the gate with his hand fetish and that's very clear fanservice. But with Caleb? What fanservice have we gotten from him?

It feels like the writers aren't bothering with fanservice because they're relying on people to already be attached to him because of how long they've made us wait. I'm not one of those people but I'm attached to him because of his seiyuu, so I feel like I'm just floating in this in between zone where I like him because of his voice and I WANT to like him more, but his character does nothing for me

The only reaction he's gotten out of me was negative whenever he hurt her

The fact that I get so excited whenever there's a mention of Zayne or anything to do with Sylus on Caleb's route really says a lot

I do find it such a strange move for infold though. They've gotten this far with making sure to drop fanservice in whatever they write, but where is it for Caleb? Is the fanservice only for those who like the childhood friend aspect of him and him treating her like a little girl? Because even that is in short supply here

From a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense. They'd want to appeal to as many people as possible, but even people like me who actually want to like him... it's just not clicking

This scene was incredibly short and I feel like this should've had more of a focus, than trying to portray him as someone who has all these mysteries surrounding him and never giving us any answers. Him making her see him as someone who's not her "big brother" should've been his entire arc. But we got a half-hearted scene that's marred by an entire background of him betraying her trust

What was the first thing about Sleep Token that made you decide to keep listening/interacting with the fandom?

I tend to get really fixated on a particular artist/genre, and won't be able to listen to or enjoy other music while I'm stuck in that fixation. At the time I first heard ST (recc'd by a coworker), I was in one of those music phases where I could only listen to Spiritbox. Like, I listened to The Summoning and I couldn't even finish it, because it wasn't the music my brain worms were demanding at the time. Vess' voice was also a bit of an acquired taste for me (I understand the peanut butter comments tbh), but it's definitely akin to getting used to drinking scotch—it (in general) may not taste very good when you first start out, but DAMN is it delicious once you've acclimated to it. He's got that smooth whiskey/silky red wine voice, and I wish more people gave themselves a chance to appreciate a unique voice like his (100% /pos)

Getting into it, it was the lore, general vibes, and the drumming; I have been a ii girly from day 1 lol, he really is that special ingredient that makes the whole recipe come together. Once I was released from my Spiritbox phase, of course. Some newer followers may not know, but I'm a veteran Dream stan (not active at all right now, but the grind never truly stops) all the way back from 2020, peak DSMP. So I've always been a sucker for a good story in alternative mediums like that. The fandom is just the right balance of gay autistic nerd energy that I thrive in, so it felt really natural to find a home here 🩷

What inspired drawing them as cute cats?

I've always drawn them as cats. Save for like a few Human People here and there. My first fanart was my fandom newcomer's impression of Vessel, with little extra context, as a cryptid cat man lol. From there, it was shitposting about him as my fave cat memes, cat BTTV emotes, etc. I am very much a cat enjoyer, and just kinda stumbled into it being my "brand" purely from the love of it.

Also I find the cute kitties to be a little personally healing. Between uni, finally getting mental illness treatment, being in an abusive relationship and still recovering from the aftermath, etc etc, I lost a LOT of fundamental art skills. Like human body/facial anatomy because I was just too burnt out, busy, or depressed to draw. Cats make me happy, and cats are a little easier than people. So I can draw what I love while I try to heal and find those skills again.

If there was one thing you want people to know about you, what would it be?

Hmmm, trying to figure out how to word this lol. I think, overall, that I mean well with everything that I say and do. I fuck up sometimes with tone and/or assuming people know I'm being over the top or sarcastic. But I actively check myself before I post and make sure everything I put out into the world is in good faith.

For example, I'm faaaaar less horny on main than I portray myself—in fact, I'm actually a pretty committed Christian, so I'm not comfortable being 100% /srs horny on main even if I wanted to lol. I just find it fun to play up the rabid fangirl and go over the top with thirst tagging. I'll be real, they're fucking HOT lmaoooo, sue me. But any "sexualization" I do is always a bit, since I don't know these people and there's a veeeery slippery slope between gushing over hot guys and straight up objectification. If that makes sense.

OR, I also like insult-based affection for friends (eg. if you are friends with me you are a stupid idiot baby nerd and I love you). But my neurodivergent ass, similar to thirst posting, sometimes has a hard time reading the tone of the convo and can accidentally go a little far with things. I never ever want to hurt anyone, much less actually insult people I like!! So I wish I could organically give a disclaimer that it's all 100% out of love and to let me know if I missed the mark ;w;

soooo we met on tumblr in 2018 through a common fandom and had a long-distance relationship that, as you can tell, didn't work out. i was still figuring out my aromanticism but really the main factor of why we also didn't stay friends after the whole thing, is they had a p big and sudden personality switch tbh. nothing bad but like it was weird to me and ig set off some alarms in my head to cut things off there

back then i was 19 and iirc they were 21 and in college

they presented themselves as a russian who moved to the us to escape their abusive father

they did post in russian sometimes (mostly in the tags of vent posts), very rarely, but they did. yet still some things didn't entirely add up

when we did voice chats they had an average american accent, which is definitely possible for someone who moved there from russia ofc, but considering how they moved to the us alone, that implied they did so as an adult, i'm p sure?? i can't remember if they mentioned having help with that but. yeah it was a bit odd, esp looking back

(also while i don't wanna doubt someone's tale of their abuse, esp in case I'm wrong, what they said abt how their dad abused them doesn't really work with "learned how to speak in perfect english with a perfect american accent". not gonna elaborate more than that)

another thing that didn't stand out back then was a conversation where they mentioned their grandma being jewish, to which i said that makes them at least partially jewish as well, and they really ran with it and put it on their blog and started mentioning it often, esp in relation to me and our relationship (bc yknow, I'm jewish). again, nothing too bad

but yeah we ended up cutting things off. fast forward 5 years i found old dms on one of my sideblogs and went "oh hey i wonder what they're up to"

and their bio says they're a native american + palestinian + 20 years old. which. um. as you can tell very much doesn't align with what i knew about them. no mentions of judaism no mentions of russia and a way younger age from what i knew. they only sent me one pic of them before and they looked very much white in it

so the real question is. did they lie to me about their age and backstory? are they lying now? both?? who knows!

ah yeah... that was intentional. old habits die hard i guess? this got a little away from me so i put my extremely long rant under the cut, but tlwr: i try not to tag a lot of shipping stuff as /smosh.

see, i'm not new to the smosh fandom, but i am relatively new to THIS version of the fandom. i came back a couple of months ago but my real heyday was in like. 2018-2020. and we had pretty set rules for how we went about things, and one of the BIG ones was to never put anything ship-related in the main tags (those tags being cast names and the main smosh tag itself).

this was for a couple different reasons; first of all, some of the actual smosh staff was on tumblr (the official smosh blog for one, and i think one of the cast used tumblr at the time?? not sure on that one though as i Cannot remember), and we didn't want them to have to view rpf of themselves in spaces just generally meant for posting about them/their company. like say courtney, for example, goes into the 'courtney miller' tag - there's a difference between seeing a post about her bit in the new tntl and a post about them. fucking ian nasty style. not that there's anything wrong with the latter, just that i am very conscientious about not showing the real person fiction to the real person(s) in question, as was a lot of the smosh fandom.

second of all, not every smosh fan is into rpf. our venn diagram is not a circle. there was a time when i was not a part of the venn diagram. it's why i try to tag every post with 'shipping' and/or 'rpf' when it even vaguely hints at the stuff, so that not everybody has to see it. this isn't exclusive to this topic - i would do that for anything divisive. so, yeah, casual smosh fans scrolling the main tag probably don't want to see my silly ship edits, and i get that!!

since i've returned we obviously have a much different fandom culture - the old smosh blog shut down years ago and i'm fairly certain none of the cast checks tumblr anymore (and if they do and they're reading this: i'd like to apologize and beg for them to block me for both of our sanities). i've also made a few exceptions to my own rule, such as with the incorrect tweets bc i think those can mostly be written off as jokes and the lil au edits though i regret that at times. (i've been considering un-tagging those for a while tbh.) i've also realized recently that the tag 'smosh fic' just gets sorted directly into the 'smosh' tag which is. a pain in the ass. that's not what i said tumblr and you know it. so some of my content has been filtered in there. but you'll notice with the lil clips and text posts i post and stuff i almost never tag it as 'smosh' because. i just don't need people to see it ya know. i've got my people here and that's enough for me <3

that is all to say by the way that the new fandom culture is not BAD. as we all know, i'm very pro-rpf, so seeing rpf out there is great (as long as you know it's not tinhatting etc etc). we also have a very diverse community now with a lot of interesting ships and great fics that i would never have found without casually scrolling through the smosh tag!! it's also easier nowadays to block tags than ever; casual fans can just block the 'shipping' tag and have (relatively) easy access to the smosh tag. so please all of you keep doing you - i'm not your mother and i don't expect you to listen to lil ole me where i live perched up on my soap box. BUT idk if i personally can get over my hang-ups about tags.

So basically, I'm not actually a huge fan of criticizing people. If you manage to write a whole ass book and publish it? That's INCREDIBLE and probably something I could never do. I'm just an avid reader. I have pretty low standards, to be honest. I will read almost anything and enjoy it in some way. To go to a place like goodreads or directly on amazon where the author can easily see and find my bullshit review? Makes me feel icky, tbh. Because no book is for everyone, right? Why should they have to hear my opinion? Like I get that that's the point of websites like goodreads, but still. I'd rather just post them here where no one will see lmao

My reviews will probably contain spoilers!

My rating system:

1/5 DNF, didn't make it to 50% and found almost nothing enjoyable.

2/5 DNF, made it past 50% so something kept me interested to that point.

3/5 Finished. Probably took a lot of breaks to get through it.

4/5 Finished. Enjoyed the book! Probably took minimal breaks.

5/5 Finished. Loved the book and couldn't put it down!

Why I read what I read:

I pretty much only read queer romances at this point. Typically M/M, but occasionally F/F or F/M/M or other poly stories, trans stories as well, but those are not very common, in my experience, though maybe I'm not looking in the right places. I'm queer, so obviously I prefer queer stories. I tend to be more on the ace side of things these days and I'm more likely to find ace/demi stories in M/M fiction, in my experience. I also just find queer stories much more interesting to read.

I also really HATE being able to place myself into a story. Like. It's the WORST. So reading M/M as a queer woman makes sense, right? I can't imagine myself as the main character. And that's a good thing. I don't want these stories happening to me. I want to see characters fall in love with each other. I have no place in a book. I know a lot of people love being able to see themselves as a main character in the books they read, but it gives me the ick. So here we are.

which is also why i think eto and he should have allied themselves with furuta

even if furuta preferred to have them (entire washuu clan) all killed for his plan

(but also both of them maintaining appearances: furuta seemingly obeying while actively but indirectly wiping them out + managing to make them believe the washuu clan (their main soldiers supply) was better off dead, arima carrying out their orders perfectly <- killing shachi and giving rize back)

but also arima made a conscious decision to ally himself with fellow v hater eto

and that meant allying himself with aogiri (and its ideals) by extension

and yeah he's just like tatara in that respect: doesn't care all that much for aogiri's primary goal, just here for their own stuff and if ghouls can have it better by the end of it then good

but giving rize back to v was. the opposite of what arima's shown to want (not killing, getting away from v, better life for garden kids)

and also like the whole not killing thing, re the butterfly panel.. i know it's for symbolism and the poetry of seeing it fly away etc etc but. the impact would have been so much higher if he let ghouls go. if he let rize go.

hell even furuta, rize's main captor, let rize go when they were kids because he didn't want that fate for her

we saw where that lead but anyway

all arima spared were a butterfly (symbolism) and kaneki (also symbolism, but conscious on his part. which is infuriating for me. he failed with kaneki. failed to make him a decent successor. failed to make him a proper symbol of hope for having killed arima (considering that after that he didn't kill a single investigator as king). hell he even failed to train him to beat him.)

not his family, not the people he wanted to protect, not even the ones he, as the oek, should have spared and helped. no, he spared a potential symbol.

and also lmao rotfl etc but seeing arima constantly shown on corpse heaps and then furuta making a parade out of same corpse heaps...

arima saying i hate killing and then mass murdering everything he sees and furuta going i want super peace while making tokyo a warzone...

they're the same (but furuta's efficient about it because he knows how to play that game, he knows when to reveal which card and to whom. also he knows how to act with his allies and not parallel to them.)

also like, furuta being extraordinarily good at fighting but hiding it to the point he's rank 1 and known as a poor little bureaucratic meow meow needing protection when hairu, younger than him, is first class... arima should have taken notes.

anyway i'm still mad about rize and shachi

and i know they had v to be mindful of and all of them are allergic to honesty, but soooo much bullshit would have been avoided if arima and souta had one (1) conversation

also souta, arguably the most childish one here, had three tons of back-up plans that allowed him to deal accordingly to 1) kaneki = oek 2) eto not going with kaneki 3) kaneki refusing to ally himself with him (and like. furuta tried, okay. he'd have tried with arima and eto if they'd fucking. told him.) 4) about anything thrown his way tbh i mean the dude had roma and shiko in his fucking office - so you can't tell me genius writer Takatsuki Sen didn't have at least a dozen

all that to say she should have gone with goat, killed kaneki herself and taken up the oek mantle like god intended

she wouldn't have stood for his shit and neither should have anyone

i also really fucking resent the fact that it's hirako who killed kaiko and not arima, furuta, matsuri or eto. like. fucking hell. what was the point of saying "oh btw she survived decapitation and kakuhou manipulation :)" if not to make her kill kaiko????? but instead faint right after and never to be seen again?????

Arima's plan was so stupid like the dude was completely unbeatable and instead of fighting V on his own with also unbeatable Eto he?? left his title and life dream to some guy that could barely touch him in combat??

The impact from having THE ghoul investigator teaming up with ghoul would have been soooo much more, for the humans especially, than whatever Kaneki had going on. Especially paired with the Takatsuki is a ghoul reveal and her new book release. As for the ghouls, all Arima had to do was. stop killing them.

And instead of that, he killed Shachi and gave Rize to V and then made Kaneki his successor like???
