#i don't know how indycar works

Okay F1 fam (and those who watch Indycar), I need you to help a girl out because I have a fic idea that is plaguing me and if I don't ask questions for it, it's not going to leave me alone. So...does F1 and Indycar race at the same time? Not on the same date and same time, obviously, but like...do they race in the same states? Like, whenever F1 is over state side, do they share like the same racing schedule as Indy or do they have a different race schedule?

The reason I'm asking is because my fic idea is one where Logan and Oscar kart together when they're younger, but instead of them both joining F1 (or F3, whatever the name of the junior racing academy is), Oscar goes to F1 while Logan goes to Indy because of lack of funding or something like that (I'm sure this idea has been written before but I wanna write it anyways). Anyways, they part ways and don't see each other until they're the ages that they are now, with Oscar in F1 and Logan in Indy. They meet at a bar after one of the races (this is why I need the schedule, I need to know) and they don't recognize each other cuz the bar/club is dark until either like a strobe light flashes over Logan/Oscar's face (I kind of want it to be Logan's face) and they both kind of have an epiphany of "holy shit, it's you".

Then they do the whole "we need to catch up, do you still have my number, if not give it to me", yada yada yada, you know the drill. Then they do the "invite each other to the other's race", maybe they try out each other's car (i know the cars are designed with their driver in mind but like...come on...who doesn't love shit like this?)...

Idk. It's just an idea and like I said, it's probably been written before, but I wanna write it anyways because it has not left my mind and it's going to bother me unless I talk about it/write it out

Hi, I started watching f2 this year and I had question if you can answer: why do some of Franco's fans hate on drivers like Paul?

hmmmm im not sure if im the right person to ask, but i think it's because fans from certain countries (such as argentina) are very very passionate about their drivers? so when they have a driver such as franco who's doing well and driving in f2, they're extremely supportive when he does well, but they also get quite protective when things go wrong. if you check out the f2 ig comment section of posts where franco has scored points, there will be tons of argentinian comments cheering him on, which is lovely and im sure franco is very thankful for their support!! but then in cases such as when paul was upset about franco's overtake during the last lap of imola, they get defensive instead 🤷‍♀️

Lando went for that space on the outside, Max thought there was enough space for Lando to go. On paper, there was, but the way that Lando attacked the outside line and went so aggressively to it, you can't move that much in that position. You're kind of stuck in a straight line just because if you turn out the way, you'll end up locking up. So, yeah, it's a racing incident," Albon said. "Because they made contact, no [it wasn't harsh]. [But] if I was Max, I'd be upset if I had a penalty for that."

Charles said: "For me, it was an incident that both could have avoided. I also squeezed Max Verstappen onto the curb in 2022. I know Max’s driving style and how he battles very well because I started racing against him in 2010. I think he’s the driver I know the most and know best"

The way Wyatt became possessive over his phone when before he'd always let her use it was concerning, but she brushed it off thinking maybe it was just a one-time thing. Then she noticed whenever she stepped into the room, and he was on the phone, he'd leave or if they were in the room together and his phone rang, he'd get up and answer it in a different room. The thought of him cheating on her crossed her mind at one point, but he wouldn't do that, right?

Right? Wrong.

Stepping into the house after a long flight, all she wanted to do was take a nice hot shower to scrub off the airport griminess and cuddle with Wyatt on the couch, but walking through the house, she noticed articles of clothing strewn about. 'That's weird' she thought to herself. Her ears picked up moaning sounds coming from their shared bedroom. Hearing lewd sounds like that made her blood run cold. Wyatt was cheating on her, but with whom?

Opening the door to their bedroom, she was met with Wyatt having her barely eighteen-year-old sister, Elizabeth, bent over the side of the bed.

"What the hell is going on?!"

Wyatt pushed Elizabeth forward, letting her hit the mattress. "Y/n, babe, this isn't what it looks like."

"Really? Because to me it looks like you were just balls deep in my sister." her eyes darted to said sister who's twirling her hair in-between her fingers and kicking her feet back and forth all with a smug look on her face. "And you! You're my sister. How could you do this to me?"

"I've loved him for years and it wasn't fair that you had him all to yourself."

"So, you thought it was a good idea for you to sleep with him?! Do you hear yourself?"

Elizabeth got up from the bed and walked over to Wyatt, wrapping her arms around his waist. "It's not the first time we've slept together."

"What does she mean, Wyatt?"

"Go ahead, babe. Tell her, or I will," Wyatt looking down at his feet hesitating to tell her was everything she needed to know that whatever's been going on between the two of them has been going on for a while. "Since he won't say anything, we've been together for eight months."

"Eight months?!?! Un-fucking-believable."

"Is now a bad time to say I'm pregnant- wait, what are you doing?" Elizabeth asked, watching as y/n left the bedroom, muttering under her breath about how her own sister was a backstabbing, home wrecking whore.

"I'm picking yours and his clothes up off the floor and throwing them in the trash where they belong."

"You can't do that!"

"Seeing as this is my house, I can do what I want and I'm just cleaning up the mess you left behind as per usual."

"But-"

Y/n walked over to the front door, opening it and gestured for her to leave. "I don't care where you go, or who you go to, because you are no longer welcomed here."

With no other choice, Elizabeth dug hers and Wyatt's clothes out of the trash and got dressed. Once they were gone, she wasted no time in reaching for her rather expensive tequila and drank it straight from the bottle.

"Who needs boyfriends when you have a sister like Elizabeth."

She'd be lying if she said listening to the Ferrari higher ups talk about what was expected of her once she signed the contract wasn't lowkey terrifying. Ferrari was the dream team. A team every driver wanted to be a part of because of its past successes and rich history. And who wouldn't want to join the likes of Fangio, Lauda, Prost and Schumacher in the Ferrari Hall of fame?

"You with us, y/n?" her lawyer set his hand on her shoulder, getting her attention.

"I'm sorry, but can you repeat that?"

"As we were saying, Ferrari goes deeper than just a brand of car. Many individuals have joined over the years, but many have also cracked under the pressure. Are you sure you can handle it?"

"Oh! Definitely."

"If you're so sure, then sign away," Fred slid the contract over the sleek oak table and handed her a pen, hurriedly signing her name on the dotted line. As she set the pen down, it hit her. She was, as of that moment, a formula one driver for Scuderia Ferrari.

She stood up, shaking everyone's hand, stopping at Fred. "Thank you for taking a chance on me. I won't let you down."

"I know you won't." The small French man smiled. "Now, would you like a tour?"

Nodding her head, an older Ferrari employee guided them to the door and started going from room to room, talking intensively about anything and everything Ferrari. It was one thing to see pictures of past drivers and read their achievements, but to lay eyes on the multiple rows of championship winning cars was another. It only made the excitement grow.

That same Ferrari employee saw Charles and immediately waved him over. "Charles! Mate, come meet your new teammate!"

When their eyes met, it was like everything slowed down. It felt as if no one else was in the room but them. Just then, a warm, fuzzy feeling washed over her, and a small flutter of butterflies tickled inside her body. Was this love at first sight? But she just met Charles. There's no way she could possibly fall in love with her new teammate Right?

The corners of the Monegasques' mouth curved into a grin. "I'm Charles."

"I'm Y/n."

His trainer and the Ferrari employee exchanged looks and knew something special had happened between the two drivers. No one looks at someone like that and does not end up together.

"As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I got to get going. We should get together sometime and get to know each other since we're going to be teammates."

"I'd love that!"

They swapped phones, putting each other's numbers in. As the tour continued, she looked over her shoulder and watched him walk away, completely ignoring the Ferrari employee. The season couldn't start fast enough.

Logan walked into yet another party with his head held low, knowing this was one of his lasts with f1. It sucked, knowing that he was leaving. But he was going to indycar, and that was something, right? Prema was good, right? He just felt so… used. He hadn’t even been given a chance to prove himself in f1. He hadn’t even been given a proper goodbye by his shitty team. 

“Who’s she?” Lando leaned in to Oscar beside him. Logan looked up to see who he was talking about, and there you were. Dancing in the middle of the party like no one was watching, but everyone had their eyes on you. You were fucking gorgeous, at least that’s what Logan thought. 

“That’s Y/n,” Oscar chuckled. “She’s Hattie’s friend, we grew up together.”

Beside you was Oscar’s sister Hattie and Lily, Oscar’s girlfriend. You were all dancing along to the music being played far too loud in the club, singing along. 

“That’s Y/n?” Logan gawked. Being friends with Oscar he’d met you when you two were kids and grew up together. He’d had a crush on you since he was about 12 years old. “How long has it been?” You two hadn't spoken in years, but you stayed in each others comment section and offered support when it was needed.

“Too long,” Oscar laughed as Lily spotted him and ran up to the group, hugging him. "You should talk to her."

"Like that went well the last time," he scoffed, downing more of his beer. The last time you two had spoken face to face, you'd been breaking up. You were both sobbing crying, just hugging each other, and you kept apologising, wishing it hadn't worked out the way it did.

"This isn't fair," you frowned, wiping your tears on the sleeve of your hoodie. "This is shit."

Logan chuckled, this sad, half-hiccup, half-sob noise and he sighed. "I fucking love you so much."

You fell into his arms like you'd done so many times before, and you cried against each other for a good hour on his front porch.

"I would give up singing if it meant that we could be together forever," you whispered. Maybe it was silly, and you were only 18, but you knew Logan was your person. He was your everything.

"Don't say that," he cooed, pressing soft kisses to the crown of your head. "I love hearing you sing for me."

"I love singing for you," you looked up and pressed a kiss to his cheek as the taxi rolled up beside his house. He watched as you left, both of you crying as you walked away from the greatest thing you'd ever lost.

Hattie followed Lily, dragging you behind her as you complained about wanting to dance more. Hattie pulled a little too hard and you fell forward, straight into Logan. 

“Fuck!” you squealed as he grabbed you, keeping you upright. You looked up, only to be met with the eyes of the guy you’d liked since you were 12, and your first boyfriend. “Logan?!”

“Y/n,” he smiled. He didn’t drop his hands and you both just stared at each other for a few seconds. Then the song changed, some 2000’s song he remembered hearing too often as a teenager, and your smile widened. “Follow me Sarge,” you chuckled, pulling him onto the dancefloor. Logan Sargeant was not a dancer by any means. He wasn’t one to take the spotlight either. 

He didn’t complain about it when it meant you had your hands all over him, and he got to put his hands on you. 

You two were 15 when you got together, and you broke up when you two were 18. 3 years was a long time in teenage years, and you were both crushed, but you were going on tour for the first time, and he was always too busy with racing. You two didn’t talk, or see each other, so you called it quits. There was always love there, you’d always love each other, but it just didn’t work.

“How have you been?” you asked as you danced together. “I’m sorry about Williams.”

He shrugged, pulling you closer. “I’m going to indycar, it’s not like my life is over.”

You smirked. “Exactly,” you spun in his arms.

As the night progressed and you two spent some more time together, you fell into an easy flow of conversation. Spending time with Logan always made you feel at-ease. He was your comfort person. You huddled into his side as you stood outside the bar, trying to keep under the awning as the rain poured.

"Not ideal weather for a race, huh?" you smiled, trying to kill the silence that had fallen on you two in recent moments.

Logan sighed. "I guess not."

"Well, you've always excelled in the wet," you winked as you lit a cigarette and he laughed.

You stayed silent for a moment, all too aware of the way he was staring at you.

“You still think about us?”

You weren’t one to beat around the bush, he admired that. 

He chuckled. “Sometimes,” he shrugged. 

Your eyes widened. “Me too! All the time!” You stamped out your cigarette, your voice excited and bright.

He stopped moving, stopped breathing. “Oh yeah?”

How he was keeping it cool was beyond him. He’d wanted you to say that for his entire adult life. 

You nodded slowly, wrapping your arms around his neck. “Still love you.”

He could’ve fainted. Going out tonight was the best idea Oscar had ever had. “Good,” he smiled, his heart beating out of his chest. “‘Cause I still love you too.”

Your smile widened. “So kiss me.”

He didn’t need to be told twice. 

-------------- When he woke up the next morning, he had a pretty bitching hangover, but also your number, so he wasn’t that upset. Last night had been exactly what he needed, you were exactly what he needed. Someone fun, someone free, and someone completely uninterested in racing. Don’t get me wrong, you liked it, and you watched it, but you didn’t give a shit about the championship or how Logan was doing. You loved Logan, not Logan Sargeant, f1 driver. You’d always been like that. Unconditional.

Then he remembered about the kiss outside the bar, because his mom, your mom, Oscar, Oscar's mom, Lily, Hattie, Alex, Lily, and you were all texting him at the same time, as well as hundreds of thousands of messages from every social media platform.

Four months on from the bar, you two were still going strong and you were happier than ever. He was doing better mentally, and in races. He'd somehow gotten a Williams up into p6 in quali, and got p5 as a result. When he got out of the car, he ran straight to you and kissed you in front of everyone. It was amazing.

Sadly, Logan's last f1 season finally came to an end in Abu Dhabi, where he fought hard and got his first podium. P2. You'd never been so proud. He stood up there, proving that he wasn't a failure, to himself, and to the world. You'd cried so hard as you watched in the paddock, screaming with joy as he won his first f1 podium.

That night, you two retired to your hotel room, both exhausted.

"You were amazing," you yawned, curling into his chest.

"Well, you're my good luck charm," he chuckled. "You have to be at my first Indycar race-"

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," you promised him. Logan meant everything to you. You were everything to him.

author's note: welcome to my blog!! this is a bit rough, but i figured it's only going to get better with time so here goes. thanks for spending some time on my little corner of the internet!

y/n was not joking when she said her ankles had left the building. she didn’t know when it had happened, but they had completely and utterly given up on her. 

“Baby girl, it’s just rude at this point,” she said quietly to herself. Despite the discomfort, she was unable to stop the beginnings of a smile when she thought about the little human that she’d couldn’t wait to meet. “I thought we had a deal that you wouldn’t do this to me until my maternity leave started.” 

And that leave was so close she could practically taste it (thank God), but brought with it some bittersweet feelings. In her comfortable seat in the McLaren motorhome, watching the race coverage on the television with papaya headphones secured over her ears, she took a second to enjoy the moment. Her whole life she’d been working towards her dream of being a motorsport journalist, and after a couple of wildly successful interviews with the most closed off of drivers, she was catapulted into the glitzy and glamorous world of F1. In the midst of seeing her dreams come true, she hadn’t expected to fall in love- with the curly haired boy who was currently in a comfortable third place. 

The garage started to buzz with excitement as the end of the race drew closer and closer. y/n gasped as Lando’s position was threatened with five laps to go, but he defended skilfully, pulling ahead on the straight and successfully creating more distance between him and the contender. The mechanics roared, and suddenly there was a flurry of motion as they got ready to cheer their driver to the checkered flag. 

“That’s your daddy!” y/n said, unable to contain her excitement. There was an uncomfortable twinge in her gut when she stood to celebrate him crossing the finish line with the rest of the garage, but it was easily ignored in the midst of hugs and cheers with the rest of the team. Pato found her in the crowd (she was hard to miss at 38 weeks pregnant), and squeezed her shoulders in a side hug. 

“No wonder he’s on the podium, with his lucky charms here,” the McLaren reserve driver said, his smile crinkling the corners of his eyes. y/n's smile grew as she took him in- race weekends were always made better by his presence in the McLaren garage. Pato had been one of her very first motorsport interviews while working in IndyCar, and her nerves had been through the roof when first meeting him. Luckily, they’d clicked instantly, bonding over their shared upbringing in Texas, and her ability to draw out his wonderful personality on camera had been a huge help to advancing her career. “Wanna head over there?” 

“Yes! Definitely. But I’m warning you, it’s going to be slow.” She shook her head and smiled fondly down at her bump. “I’ve seen turtles who walk faster than me.” 

“Oh, come on,” he said, steadying her arm as she stepped down from the raised platform where chairs were placed in the garage. “I think you could at least win a race with a snail.” 

“Mean!” she laughed, swatting his arm away as they followed the horde of people surging towards the podium. “You get pregnant, and then we’ll see how you do.” 

“Yeah, I don't think that's in the cards for me,” he said, bumping her shoulder. There was too much noise to continue their conversation as they neared the podium, and they only had to pause once on their journey as y/n breathed through another twinge. This one seemed a little stronger, but she recovered quickly, and Pato shielded her as people jostled for a spot close to the front. Luckily, the McLaren team recognized her fondly and made a path towards the fence, closing in behind her and Pato so they couldn’t be bumped around. 

“God, this never gets old.” y/n said, taking in the roar of the crowd, the feeling of being one in a sea of many. 

“Here he comes!” Pato yelled over the many voices around them, and an uncontrollable smile broke out across her face as her boy pulled off his helmet and ran towards them.

He slowed down as he neared her, wrapping her in a tight yet cautious hug. 

“Doing okay, baby?” he said into her ear, planting a gentle kiss on her cheek. 

“Are you kidding me? You were amazing out there! I’m so proud of you!” y/n squealed, hugging him as tightly as her belly allowed. Cameras clicked around them as she pulled back to meet his soft lips, smiling into the short kiss. 

“Did it for my girls.” He said, eyes bright as he stared into hers. For a second, it was just them, and she felt a warm rush of gratitude for where life had taken her. Dream career, dream love, and a new dream- a child made from the best parts of both of them, arriving in just a few weeks. 

“Go celebrate with your team,” she mouthed, eyes going glossy. 

He looked conflicted but nodded, gently cupping the sides of her face and planting a kiss on her forehead before stepping away. With a giant whoop, he launched himself into the crowd of waiting McLaren employees, clapping hands with some and hugging others. He shot a wink over at her before walking into the building and the cooldown room, and the crowd grew antsy as they waited for the trophy presentation. 

Now that there was a lapse in the excitement, the twinges y/n felt were becoming harder and harder to ignore. She gripped Pato’s arm to her left as a particularly bad one came on, wincing in pain. 

“y/n?” he asked, voice filled with worry. “Everything okay? Is it too crowded?” 

“Yeah,” she breathed out, the pain subsiding within a few seconds. “I just, I keep feeling this squeezing sensation that I-”

They came to the realization at the same time, and Pato’s eyes seemed to almost be more terrified than hers. “You don’t think?” 

“I uh-, I mean,” Pato looked around frantically. Any hopes of further conversation were blown away as the trophy presentation started, and Lando was announced as the third place driver. He walked out onto the podium, a smile on his face and Pirelli hat on, taking his spot on the third place platform. His happy expression only grew as he scanned the crowd, until his eyes found what y/n assumed was an alarming sight- her practically doubled over, hanging onto Pato’s arm for dear life, and Pato looking like he would rather be thrown out of an F1 car than in this situation. 

Others around them started to take notice, and the female employees in particular rushed to her aid, offering bottles of water. y/n accepted gratefully, and looked up in time to notice that her favorite driver was no longer standing proudly on stage, and all of a sudden he was rushing out to find her at the fence. 

“Go back-” y/n forced out. “Fine. Just need a second.” 

“Baby, no.” He said, finding a way to move the fence so y/n could join him on the other side.  He took charge of supporting her- Pato practically sagged in relief- and ran a hand over her hair. “We have to go. Oh my god, we have to go? Is it time?” 

“No.” y/n said firmly. She could feel all eyes of the crowd on her, and even the announcer on the podium had paused his program to watch the chaos unfolding below. “Your moment! She can wait!”

But as y/n's face crumpled in the wake of another contraction, the decision was made for the both of them by their daughter- she was coming, and she was coming now. His hands shook as he guided her inside, y/n groaning more about making a scene than the pain. Pato called out a feeble “Good luck!” from behind and she sent a weak wave his way. 

A staff member inside the cooldown room had already called an ambulance, and Lando guided y/n into a chair before squatting down to press his forehead against hers. 

“I’m so sorry,” she whispered, rubbing her hands over his shoulders.

“You have absolutely nothing to apologize for,” he said, taking a deep breath to try to stop his hands from shaking as he intertwined them with hers. The combination of the post-race adrenaline and the imminent arrival of their daughter was doing crazy things to his nervous system. “I can’t believe this is really happening. I’m so sorry you spent the day here when you could’ve been comfortable at home.” 

She shook her head at him, her deep breaths the only sound in the space. “No place I’d rather be.” 

He squeezed her hands at that, kissing both cheeks and leaving the lightest kiss on her nose. 

“She’s really coming, huh?” y/n whispered in disbelief, a tear slipping down her cheek.

“She’s really coming,” Lando laughed, not able to believe his luck.

The Arrow McLaren team knew Pato and Mía were sentimentally involved with each other for a long time. When they informed them about it they'd been dating for almost ten months and it's been four month since that meeting. Back then they agreed that they'll keep their relationship private so it doesn't interfere in bussiness and to mantain the team image. Also because of Mía being and dating a driver, she was afraid of losing credibility.

Privately, Pato and Mía were the cutest couple for all of their friends. They met on karting when they were kids, then they reunite many years later in McLaren's Indycar team. They were together in the same team for five years as friends before they started dating.

At that time, Mía was feeling down because she didn't like any guy. The only masculine contact that she liked was Pato's, and thanks to some friend's advice she realized that it was because she was in love with Pato. Meanwhile, Pato had had a crush on Mía for the past five years.

And now they were doing a silly challege for the Arrow McLaren media team because of the upcoming season. Oh and David Malukas was also around.

"Hey guys, it's Mía," she waved at the camera with a smile.

"This is David," he scrunched his nose and imitated Mía.

"And I'm Pato," he said. The team put David in the middle so Pato and Mía didn't get handy all of a sudden. "And we're here to do the deaf, mute and blind challege. Were one of us is going to be deaf, other blind and other mute."

"And we're also baking a cake for the Arrow McLaren anniversary," explained David.

"If that's not enough, they're going to ask us questions once in a while," Mía said, with a smirk. "And all of us are going to be able to answer them

"But that's a lot of work..." David complained.

"I know," Mía whispered.

"Alright! Let's get into work, mates," Pato clapped his hands.

Mía quickly move to his side, messing the organization the team made. "How do we distribute them?" she rubbed her hands together, watching the tape, headphones and band the team got them.

"It looks like a weird sex kit, don't you think?" David said.

"Oh my God, Dave!" Mía exclaimed, hiding a laughter. "You're going mute."

Mía handed him the tape and he gave her a bad look.

"I'll take the headphones," Mía smiled triumphant. "You guys received my playlist, right?"

Mía looked around into the backstage, receiving a nod from their media manager Vic.

"I'm too cool to be mute," David complained.

Meanwhile Mía helped Pato tying the band around his eyes with a silly smile.

"Okey, we're ready," Pato said, after Mía made sure he couldn't see anything.

"Give me a banger, Vic!" Mía said, almost shouting. They started playing Cruel Summer and she sang along from the very first verse.

Pato tried caught her attention so Mía could read the recipe for him. He knew it would be a bad idea to put headphones on her girlfriend.

"Mía!" he didn't shout too much, but she kept singing. "MÍA, I NEED YOU TO READ THE RECIPE OUT LOUD,"

"EH?" she also started to scream.

"THE RECIPE," Pato kept shouting.

"THE RECIPE?"

"YES!" Pato almost jumped when Mía got it right.

David looked at the camera, sick of the couple.

"NICE!" Mía said and handed Pato the paper so he could read it. "Oh, wait."

Mía read him the recipe trying to control her voice while David had a long face because of not being able to talk.

"Alright," Pato felt around the table, preparing to bake. He search for Mía. "MÍA, I NEED YOU TO GUIDE ME TO MAKE THE CAKE."

"YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOUT, BABE, I CAN READ YOUR LIPS," she nodded with a soft smile.

None of the couple notice the nickname, they must've been used to it. But David looked to Vic quickly, with a scared glance.

"Ok, guys, hand me the butter," Pato extended his hand and Mía had the impulse to lick it. She controlled herself for the team's sake.

"THE WHAT?" she shouted again.

David made space for himself and gave Pato the goddamn butter. Mía looked at them with disgust.

"Why has to be Pato the one to do everything?"

"Because you'd fuck it, hermosa," Pato said, vocalizing slowly so Mía understanded every word.

She gasped but not as loud as the media team after Pato's word.

"Get the fuck out of my way," Mía said, decided to make the cake once and for all. "Dave, let's do this together. Oh, I love this song."

Mía got distracted and started singing No Scrubs.

"Ok, guys. It's time for the first question," Vic said, trying to control everything that had been going on for the whole challenge. "And, please, get Mía's attention."

Both of the guys stared at Mía dancinc in the back and singing along. Pato tapped her shoulder, only to Mía singing it straight to his face. Pato didn't even try to pretend that he despised it. He just stared at her with loving eyes.

"No, I don't want your number. No, I don't wanna give you mine," Mía sang horribly but Pato couldn't stop looking at her.

"Oh my God, guys!" David peeled off the tape from his mouth, his expression fed up. "Hide it a little more, idiots."

Pato stopped laughing and turn his head to David, even though he couldn't see him. He raised his band a little to look at Vic and see what they were doing now.

"WHAT DID HE SAID?" Mía gave Pato a scared stare and took off one of the headphones. "What is going on?"

Mía talk only to Pato, almost whispering. Pato give Vic another glance and she just shrugged her shoulders, downplaying importance.

"Jus Dave being stupid," Pato explained and looked at David rasing his eyebrow, he nodded.

"Oh, nothing out of the ordinary then," Mía smiled and put her headphones back on.

"What was the question again?" Pato said, before giving Mía a loving stare.

The Backdoor Deals that Make Motorsport Go Round

This is going to be a bit of a different blogpost.

First things first, last weekend during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, we started hearing about the Andretti Cadillac to F1 story being resolved, at least on the Cadillac side. Today, we got confirmation, with the Cadillac F1 team confirmed to join for 2026. So far, we know this: Dan Towriss will be CEO, Mario Andretti (not Michael) will serve on the board, and Cadillac will initially use a Ferrari power unit while Cadillac develops their own unit in Michigan.

We also know that the team will retain all of Andretti's hires so far - Pat Symonds chief among them - and that the team will be based in Fishers, Indiana (where Andretti's new base will be) with a sort of forward operating base in Silverstone.

So...it's Andretti with the serial numbers filed off.

And I think this has been in the works for a long time.

Let me talk about a few things, and then we'll weave all these little threads together to show a bigger picture.

First things first, Michael Andretti launches Andretti Aquisition Corporation I - a Special-Purpose Acquisition Corporation, which is a public company that exists for the whole purpose of buying out a private company, merging with that private company, and using that to make the private company public in a streamlined manner - to merge into an AI company called Zapata.

Zapata starts trading at $10 a share, it almost immediately drops to $2.95 a share, and it keeps dropping. As of November 25th, 2024, Zapata AI stock is trading at $0.02 a share. That is quite literally two cents a share.

I don't need an economics degree to tell you that was a shitshow of a stock.

Second of all, at the Miami Grand Prix, Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei reportedly promised to do everything in his power to keep the Andretti name out of Formula One.

Third of all, in response, Mario Andretti goes to his friends on Capitol Hill - Mario is the big political donor of the family - and petitions Congress to begin an antitrust probe into Formula One and Liberty Media.

Fourth of all, at the end of the 2024 NTT Indycar Series, Michael Andretti announces his decision to step down from the day-to-day running of Andretti Global. Dan Towriss, co-owner and the man who brought in Group 1001 (and its Gainbridge and Delaware Life subsidiaries) to the team, has been taken control. Michael is still a strategic advisor and maintains that he will still be connected to this team, but...it's a change.

And for whatever it's worth, there are whispers that Michael Andretti stepping down wasn't entirely his own decision.

Fifth of all, two weeks ago, Greg Maffei announced he is stepping down from his role at Formula One and Liberty Media at the end of the year.

Finally, like I said, it has now been confirmed that Cadillac will enter Formula One as its eleventh team. Mario is on the board, Dan Towriss is in charge, and the team will be run on Cadillac's behalf by Towriss' TWG Global.

TWG Global is said to be the owner of Andretti Global in Indycar, Wayne Taylor Racing in IMSA, and Spire Motorsports in NASCAR. That last one is particularly notable because, while there have been rumors about Andretti buying into Spire and Towriss' companies consistently sponsor the Spire cars, this is the first time we've actually heard about him owning a piece of Spire.

I guess Dan Towriss' thing is quietly acquiring racing teams without putting his name on them.

In any case, after all that, Cadillac is going to be in F1, the Andretti organization is going to run the team, but the Andretti name - particularly Michael Andretti - is not going to be attached to this project.

To illustrate that point, today, Michael Andretti tweeted about how proud he is about an American team entering Formula One and that he'll be cheering them on from the outside.

So...what has happened?

I think Michael Andretti got burnt bad on the Zapata stock, and I think it's possible that he might have been playing with some of Dan Towriss' money while doing so. So, Andretti now owes Towriss money, Towriss sees Formula One as a more lucrative return on investment than Indycar, and Michael Andretti has rubbed people the wrong way in Formula One.

Liberty Media and Formula One don't want Michael Andretti in Formula One.

Cadillac and Towriss want to be in F1.

Mario Andretti is a World Champion, so his name carries weight in Europe, but Michael Andretti's name does not. People in Europe either don't know who Michael is or remember him for that disastrous McLaren stint.

They don't care that Michael's bad 1993 was sandwiched either side by challenging for the championship in CART.

So...I think Michael Andretti had to get out of the way.

I think Greg Maffei had to get out of the way as well.

Cadillac is a big money name, Dan Towriss is a big money guy, and Formula One wants the American market, so an American manufacturer is an immense resource in that regard. So, in the name of the money, they got rid of the two big egos holding the deal up, and they got the team on the grid.

Now, I'm not a news source or anything, I'm just speculating on the bits and pieces of this that we know are public, but I find it hard to believe it's a complete coincidence that Michael steps down, Maffei announces his retirement, and then suddenly a Cadillac team is accepted with Andretti in more of a background role.

To me, it screams of a background deal for the greater good of the money people.

Liberty Media and Formula One don't want the Department of Justice sniffing around their business. Towriss and Cadillac want a piece of that Formula One pie. Mario Andretti wants to see his family's team in Formula One before he dies.

As for Michael, well...Andretti Global was his team, but he brought in investors, he started hiring people, he started building facilities in Indiana and in Motorsport Valley. The ball was already rolling, and Michael Andretti was the only thing holding it up.

Was he forced out? Maybe, but I think it's more likely that he was given a light push and a retirement package so that he can sit on his couch with his granddaughter and watch his team put a car on the Formula One grid.

Just without his name on it.

Interviewer: "When did you have the idea of moving to the WEC with Alpine?" Mick: "The idea arose to basically understand, okay, what can I do to go back to racing? And there were a few options and I think they were probably limited down to around three options, which was one, Super Formula, and Indycar, or you had WEC. And I think that for me the choice of going with WEC was very simple because I still wanted to have that connection to Formula 1, with Mercedes, but also now, because I'm racing with Alpine in WEC, I do have that connection to Alpine in Formula 1, too, right? So to be able to have that connection with both is a great thing, and again, I think that for me racing in such prestigious races as let's say the Le Mans 24 Hours, it's a great, great positon to be in and a great place to also show your potential." Interviewer: "And have you already thought about Le Mans event? Are you excited about one of the most important races?" Mick: "Yes! I don't really know what to expect, so I also don't go in with any expectations. I'll literally just let myself go with the flow, let's say, and see how it goes, because from everybody I've talked to, they say it's the most insane event that you'll ever go to. So yeah, I'm very excited for it. It's ten days of pure racing and pure motorsport, and can't wait to start in it." Interviewer: "Okay. Have you already done a few tests with the new car? Is correct?" Mick: "Yes, correct." Interviewer: "And which are the biggest differences between F1, WEC, if you try to…" Mick: "I think a lot of the underlying systems in the car are very similar to what we have in Formula 1, actually, so a lot of the, let's say, energy management, how the differential works, how all those tools work… So also engine braking, traction control… Well, obviously traction control is very different compared to Formula 1, but all of these key elements are very similar, so in terms of mindset and in terms of approach, I feel like I'm in a good position because I already understand most of those systems. In terms of car behavior, we're talking about a car which obviously weighs a lot of kilos, like we have 1,030 kilos empty on the stats, so if you put a driver and you put fuel into it, it makes the car at least two, three, maybe 400 kilos heavier, compared to a Formula 1 car. On top of that, our aerodynamics are a bit different. I think they're more considered, obviously, as a low-drag setup and just trying to account for as much air through the car, as opposed to make the car as loaded as possible. A Formula 1 car is obviously extremely loaded. You have a lot of downforce, which obviously equally has a lot of drag.

So there's some differences, some similarities, which means driving approaches are also different. You have to be a bit more cautious. You have to be a bit more, let's say, pro-active with working the car, 'cause obviously if… Let's say, once a car goes sideways, it's a lot of momentum, it's a lot of weight that carries the car towards the outside, which means that, yeah, driving style and let's say what you have to think about whilst driving is a bit different, compared to Formula 1." Interviewer: "Okay. And what do you expect from your first race in WEC?" Mick: "I don't know. I don't know what to expect. My goal is to finish the race. I think that in endurance, from everybody that I've talked to, is the key element. You wanna finish the race, you wanna see the checkered flag, 'cause that's the only way you will eventually win a race. For us, also with all the new setups and all the new kind of build that we've done, for us is really gonna be important to just have a clean event, a clean race, and a clear strategy on what we wanna do during the event. And I think that that's gonna be… Once we get close to our testing days, once we get close to Qatar, as well, all of that will be put in order so that we have clear targets, also from each individual what we need to do and how we need to work together." Interviewer: "And from your point of view, which could be the most difficult races in this season?" Mick: "The one race with the most, let's say, uncertainty around is always gonna be Le Mans. You've heard it so much, and all the other racetracks are pretty much Formula 1 circuits, so I know these tracks. For me, I don't think that's gonna be a big issue. Le Mans, on the other hand, is such a prestigious and such a difficult event, with conditions changing within the second. It could be one side of the track you have blue skies, on the other side of the track you have down under 'cause it's raining out buckets, so I think that that's, for me, gonna be the biggest challenge, is to understand and survive Le Mans." Interviewer: "Okay, okay."

Okay so Colton and logan one started totally just as my delusion when i started getting into indycar and connected dots that didn't even exist, like only time of them even being at the same place that i found so far was 2012 supernational karting competition in Vegas. at least they follow eachother on insta which is something

But they make so much sense to me. Fratboy logan that got dragged to a garage concert by his best friend Kyle????where kyle plays on guitar in the same band as Colton???? And Kyle makes them interact???? It works so well.

I'm thinking on making a subplot of them doing karting together without knowing who the other one is so then when they find out (while talking like normal when they have hangouts together with kyle or something, generally just talking to eachother normally) they r like????? IT'S YOU???

And for another one - it's pretty simple, loscar are in relationship from even before f1 started. Oscar also have some form of crush on lando and logan is aware of it and ok with it. Lando is kinda bad with defining platonic feelings from romantic ones but he likes oscar well enough either way.and he's kinda indifferent about Logan, like sure they know eachother since forever but it never was close, just acquaintances.

And then Logan does a thing like landing him his glasses because room they are in or giving his headphones when it's end of the day and everything is loud in a bad way. It's very confusing to lando so he goes to logan to ask (using returning his glasses as an excuse) and Logan just simply sais that it's just little things that he remembers from their time in karting and oscar likes lando very much so he tries to make some effort too, and it's not like that's too much work, just little details to remember.

But it does mean a lot to lando bc dealing with adhd is hard and even these little things help enormously. So he in turn start paying attention to Logan too, noticing how sweet and caring he is. And then oscar gives him a present for his birthday and it contains his favourite childhood candies and lando is very confused how oscar can possibly know about them and he just says that logan helped him prepare the present.

It feels lando with so much affection for both of them that he wants to explode and that was his clue that feeling that he have for both of them for quite some time probably aren't platonic anymore

And with time after that realisation all their hangouts start include more cuddles and some kisses later on too

❧ i love racing, i was raised on indycar, but only started watching seriously this season so if my knowledge seems patchy that's why. i know some super niche stuff and have no idea about some super obvious stuff lol

❧ i don't really have any particular fav f1 teams, just people i do or don't like. for indycar, i tend to lean towards andretti global, although i like a lot of the grid individually.

❧ my fav f1 drivers are fernando alonso, carlos sainz, logan seargant(WTF IS A KILOMETER RAHHH), and daniel ricciardo, and my fav indycar drivers are colton herta, nolan siegel, dave malukas, and pato o'ward. there are plenty of other ppl i like though, so if you want to chat i'm happy to yap!

Just so on Twitter someone saying if Penske gets caught cheating again in Indycar, that Newgarden should, as punishment, have to drive the 963 in every wec race. If that is the case then put him in a car with the current #6 cause I think he "Mr professional, only race with no distractions" would die at how much shit Andre, Kev and Laurens get up to at a race weekend, especially if it's like what they got up to this Le mans. Also I feel like Laurens would say one of his normal comments that could be taken the wrong way if u don't know how his humour works and Newgarden would get upset think Laurens really means it...

really curious as to what you and the rest of the ask box gang think of all the logan staying in f1, logan going to indy rumors that have been flying around.

i keep seeing tweets of people saying that logan said that he'd be back next year in barcelona to score points but there is no video evidence of it that i can see which makes the whole thing just a little sus to me

as much as i want to see him stay in f1 i do think the indy rumors might hold a little more weight... idk

but also i saw some one mention that if logan was going to indy it was weird that logan launched an app with his f1 number when the number 2 is alr taken in indy. but it would also be weird if he launched an app wo his driver number at all imo. also i feel like it wouldn't be that hard to change the app branding if he moves over to indy and this way he gets to keep some of his f1 base once he moves over. idk i'm not on the app tho so i can't really speak to how much work it would be to change everything.

anyways in conclusion i really don't know but i am nervous bc i just want him to have a nice racing career

honestly, i feel like the indycar rumour is probably the most believable

i want logan to stay in f1 because i do like him and i feel like he could thrive under a good team that actually care about him and help him (like williams claimed they would do but have failed to do so). however, more than anything else, i want him to be in a position where his own confidence and mental health is being put on the line and i am not sure f1 is where that is right now (unless he moves to a team that would appreciate him more)

if he does move to indycar, i hope the team appreciate him and he is treated better by them!! but i think i am more inclined to believe the indycar rumours than him staying in f1, as much as it breaks my heart to say🥲

Honestly Mclaren has lost so much of my respect this season. I'm not really a mclaren fan for formula one (although Oscar Piastri is my favorite driver), but the way they're handling the no. 6 car is so unprofessional in my opinion. Like okay you're getting rid of Felix for Alex Palou, whatever. Felix is so much happier and performing so much better at meyer shank so it worked out. Alex doesn't come to Mclaren (which I'm starting to think is completely justified. I am so glad he is avoiding this mess of a team), okay fine let's sign David Malukas. David breaks his arm, let's get Callum in the meantime. Callum can't race every race, let's sign Theo Pourchaire. David's not healing well, I get it, it sucks, but they didn't know when he would be able to race, I was sad, but this is a business. Theo's doing good, let's sign him for the rest of the season and Callum can do the 500. While all of these situations sucked, I can see why they would do it, but this? Theo literally tweeted yesterday that he was excited to race this weekend. He's literally performing so well for being a rookie. I love Nolan Siegel, don't get me wrong, I am so excited he has an indycar seat, but I do not want it to be like this. Theo left his super formula seat for this. I cannot even imagine how he's feeling. Especially after all the Canapino stuff. I hope he has a good support system around him.
