I think what makes me sad is how much people seem to dislike Clace. Like here's two people that love each other in a way that Jem said himself he hadn't seen since him, Will, and Tessa. And yet people hate it so much.

All because they think they're annoying or disgusting. But they don't feel that way about other ships that I personally believe are unhealthy and more annoying.

I mean, TMI in general is like so pushed to the side by people lately that it's actually sad. These people are the reason all the other series even exist, if it weren't for TMI, TID and TLH and TDA and TWP wouldn't even be a thing. So it's just funny how much people unappreciate the OGs.

So, I've read a few things and watched a few things these past couple months so I thought I'd make a dump of all the war crimes and ships I've shipped since I was last consistently active on Tumblr.

Alex and Darlington from Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo is iconic as fuck and I hope Leigh does write ten more books like she wants in this universe.

Emily and Aron from Designated Survivor (Like what the fuck was that show? I don't know but hey they were fun).

Addie and Luc from The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue. Is this a surprise to anyone who knows me? No, no it is not, dark shadow men and bad ass women are a classic for me.

Now this one, like, this one is a war crime but who the fuck cares/ Jace and Baela from House of the Dragon. I don't accept hate towards them, and I am fully aware of the incest but if I shipped Clace in City of Ashes Jace and Baela are barely that bad.

Now for another likely controversial one. Avery and Grayson from The Inheritance Games. I get it, I get people like her with Jameson, I get the fan cast is Louis Patridge and if they adapt these things into a film I will love him with my entire heart. However, you can't deny the set up, especially in book one, feels like it's pointing towards Grayson as the inevitable endgame.

Jane and Guilford from my Lady Jane. No comments, just bad ass angsty enemies to lovers.

Juliette and Warner from the Shatter Me series. Okay so like my opinion on these books is I love most of them but the Juliette loosing her mind perspective is really hard to read. That said, holy shit these two are hot.

Isla and Grim from Lightlark, I don't care if you all hate this book, I love it and if Isla and Grim aren't endgame when Skyshade comes out I will cry. I mean come on, secret marriage, secret life bond, and secretly committed war crimes for each other? Fuck ya!

And, last but not least, because who the fuck gives a damn, sure my late grandmother the Tolkien nerd isn't rolling in her grave. Anyways, I'm currently obsessed with Galadriel and Elrond. I haven't even watched season 2 yet but fuck my life I'm obsessed. I'm gonna binge that show at least three times. Is it great? No, it's CW level bullshit with Galadriel and Elrond having way too much chemistry. I don't care about the cannon, half the fandom ships her with Sauron (hell I shipped her with Sauron before I knew he was Sauron cause of the Klaroline vibes, and I sort of still do.) But bloody Fitzsimmons gods, they are precious to me and I want season 3 to be as un-fucking-hinged as possible and have multiple scenes with them. Come on, have them get married for politics and just leave it at that.

Herongraystairs - YES, I AM NOT DIVIDING IT AS WESSA AND JESSA BECAUSE THEY BELONG TOGETHER, change my mind (YOU CAN'T) This was the first time in my entire life when I read a book and couldn't decide which love interest I prefer, so I just didn't 😍 I can't believe how cc wrote them so perfectly, truly peak

3. Thomastair - I had a hard time deciding if they are nr 3 or 4 but I feel like I prefer them slightly more than nr 4 BECAUSE Alastair is so incredibly brave. After all that happened with his father, he still did everything to protect Cordelia and Sona. His character development is one of the best in the whole tsc. And Thomas my sweet summer child 😭 his kindness is out of this world. TO THIS DAY I remember those fucking Paris dates 😭😭😭😭

4. Malec - Cc can really write her mlm couples. Their devotion to each other 🥺 I will forever remember that Alec was the first shadowhunter Magnus ever dated because well he was a Downworlder but Alec saw so much more in him 😭 ok I'm gonna keep this short cause it will take me forever to answer 🤣

5. Gracetopher - YES I KNOW IT DIDN'T HAPPEN BUT IT HAPPENED IN MY HEART. In my mind my little asexual genius couple live happily ok? Grace is such a misunderstood character, she's a child of abuse, she was made to do so many bad things, manipulated as hell but she still wanted to change and be good. And Christopher 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 MY POOKIE I CAN'T SPEAK ABOUT HIM CAUSE I'M GONNA CRY

6. Jordelia - Cordelia was, is and always will be THE bad bitch. The ending of chain of gold when she told EVERYONE that she and James were fucking? ICOOONIC. But she's the bravest baby ever. James is this cute and gentle young man but in reality he will kill you 😍 they complete each other PERFECTLY, the tension between them in chain of iron changed me as a person, I will never be the same. ALTHOUGH they would be so much higher if not for chain of thorns... Like... This book just destroyed so many things I can't ☠️

7. Blackstairs - The tension between them when Emma was "dating" Mark, oh good god glorious. You know, Julian actually reminds me so much of James but he's SO MUCH MORE DISASTROUS, he's a fucking menace and I love that. His sexy brain did things to me 😎 Emma, my second bad bitch (I guess Cortana wielders are all that way) killing a Rider of Mannan??? I'm a goner for girl fighters. MY NEXT JACE HERONDALE. Julian will forever need Emma and Emma will forever need Julian 💕

8. Markkierantina - My poly cuties 🥺 it was the same as with herongraystairs, I couldn't decide if I want Mark with Cristina, Mark with Kieran or Kieran with Cristina, but cc corrected her mistake with herongraystairs and made them all smash. Amazing. Cristina was a key to make Mark and Kieran's relationship work, that's all I'm gonna say

9. Clace - That will probably surprise some of you but I kinda lost this clace magic along the way of reading tsc. I absolutely love them as characters and Jace is one of the funniest bitches. Idk, I don't feel it as much as I used to. But well I was 13 when I read tmi and now I'm 23 so 🤣 I still remember that 4-6 tmi books broke me emotionally so I have this great sentiment for Clace but we have many more couples that I love more 🥺

10. AriAnna - I fell in love with them when I read gotsm and I rooted for them SO HARD in cog and coi, I couldn't get enough of that tension. And then cot happened.... It felt like cc just decided to drop them, gave them an easy ending just to get rid of them... So I was greatly disappointed. And I know that if not for cot they would be higher

11. LucieJessie - Honesty (and I say this with great sadness) I was bored reading their story in cog and coi, they were just so bland to me, I don't know 😭 BUT cot made everything change. When Jessie came back to life he was SO FUN TO READ I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!! I loved them and I'm sad that it wasn't like that from the beginning

12. Sizzy - I know, I know. But I never felt them 💀 I mean, yes I love them together and I love their characters but I don't see the magic 😭😭😭 I WANT TO

13. GwynDiana - Oh they were SO IMPORTANT TO ME 😭 I adored every minute but they didn't have much chapters so 😫

14. GideonSophie - Honestly I read tid years ago and I don't remember shit, I know that I liked them and Gideon was a babe to her 💕

what do you think is your no.1 most unpopular tsc opinion?

This is rough because I think I have a lot of unpopular opinions.

I love Chain of Thorns and find TLH to be immensely satisfying. I think that the entire TLH group consists of extremely strong characters. I think TLH is as just good as TID objectively if not better.

I think Cordelia is an extremely strong and wonderful protagonist. I Herondaisy is my favourite "main" ship and my favourite ship period besides Thomastair.

I really like the TLH "love triangle" between James/Cordelia/Matthew and think that everyone else has read it fundamentally incorrectly. I always am ready to go off about this at a moment's notice. It's Herondaisy plotline + Matthew's mental health plotline intersecting. It's not about CoRdELiA cHoOsEs BeTwEeN MeN because she made her choice when she was like 13. And Matthew knows it. And everyone knows it. I actually think this "love triangle" is genius and it's probably in my top 5 favorite TSC storylines.

I hate TDA, very much view it as TSC's only weak link, and would rather have bleach poured in my eyes than ever reread it.

Related note: I would kill Julian Blackthorn where he stood if given the opportunity and think he's a literal evil sociopath.

I unironically like TMI a lot. I think it's an incredibly fun and fast-paced series that has one of the best found families I have ever seen. Clace, Malec, and Sizzy are all super sweet ships.

I also unabashedly love Cassie herself as well as her world-building and writing style. I am very at peace with her being one of my biggest writing role models even when it feels sometimes like the entire fandom has Beef with her.

I love Tessa in the historical canon and consider her one of my fave characters, but avoid her scenes in the modern ones if I reread them. Same dealio for Jem (though I don't ever think of him as a favorite, I do really like him in TID). I think Will has been massively shafted by the way that TSC is structured and will always be really salty about Wessa. However, I do really, really like Herongraystairs and am glad that they will be the heavenly endgame.

I think that my overall most unpopular opinion though is sadly that

I REALLY LOVE THE TSC CANON.

I don't really feel any need to fuck with it beyond like, in-depth character studies and fluffy little oneshots that show the characters/friendships/ships in new situations that bring their strengths to light. I love writing fic, but I want my fic to supplement the canon rather than fight against it.

I saw this book recommendation on twitter that I started friday just to try and break my reader's block... imagine my surprise when I actually liked it so much I couldn't stop reading!

It felt so good to be able to read a whole book again! So I decided that I'm gonna post some of the books I read as recommendations (just like with the Clace fanfics) in case some of you are looking for new books to read! ☺️📚

I don't really like to rate books with stars but I can say I loved this book!!! I mean, it's not the best book I ever read but I really liked it. The female protagonist it’s amazing and strong and brave just like I like them 🫶🏻 And her male interest surprised me for the good after wanting to punch him in the face at the beginning lol They truly are an interesting match, I got so invested in their story that I want more 😭♥️

I cried like five times due to the protagonist going through some reaaaally hard times. I feel like maybe it can be a little tough read for some people but it’s totally worth the read, it leaves you with a different perspective in life. Specially if someone close to you has health problems.

Also, what a good best friend the protagonist has!! He rules and he also finds love with a very cute and nice guy 😭💕

If you are into slow burn romance with rivals to lovers, and found family, you’ll probably like it!

Wessa This is easily the story I'm looking forward to the most.I didnt pledge (god I wish I had that kind of money for books, but I digress) so If I were to read only one of the stories in better in black, that would be my pick.I love Jem, I'm happy we'll get a lot of Jessa in twp, but Wessa just hits different for me.I have this unhealthy obsession for both will and tessa individually and as a couple.They are my parents, my babies, my beloveds, you get the gist. I think they were a bit mishandled in chot (could expand on that later on a different post) and it's my understanding that this will be post tid and pre kids when they were young, hot (not that they will ever not be hot) and reckless and I'm living for it

Clace I'm not really invested in this couple, but I dont hate them and wouldn't oppose reading about them, I actually dont know that much about them.I read tmi many years ago, forgot virtually everything, and only got the gist of what happened when I took to read tda and the tales of the academy during the pandemic, when I effectively came back to the fandom and started reading again after many years of teenage angst and a massive reading slump.I genuinely don't remember their story in Tmi and to me they are that cool couple that featured in tda and is bffs with Malec and Simon and I fully understand the irony of that considering they were the ones to start it all

Arianna The only story I would actually skip, and God do I feel bad for saying this about the only sapphic couple on this list.Ari is in essence a fascinating character, and I think it's a shame she was mostly sidelined in tlh.Imo, like Grace, she had the makings of a protagonist and would've been a more compelling and complex main character than both James and Cordelia (not that I dont love those two, this is not about likeability).I like the idea of Anna, but not the final product. I think she should've been better developed and properly redeemed for it to work, but I get that the tlh cast was huge and there were more prominent characters to attend to.I feel like CC aimed for Sid from the midnight lie (I LOVE this book and its author btw, but the second and final one is sloppy, especially when you consider the masterpiece that the winners trilogy is.Rutkoski could've served it, she was just not feeling like it) but didn't have the time page to go all the way.All in all, I don't think they should've ended up together and don't root for this couple

Jordelia I'm conflicted on this one.Chog and Choi Jordelia is flawless, addictive, I ate up every crumb of it and asked for more.Chot Jordelia not only lost its delicious, playful dynamic (you could see they were friends first and foremost, it was wonderful) but has a Bridgertonness quality to it that I just couldn't stand.I'll never get over chot James comparing Cordelia to a dish and using the world deflower.To me that's fanfic, I refuse to acknowledge it, the James from the previous books would shoot him for that shit.CC wrote this for no other reason than she wanted to tho, no deadline, no pressure, so there's a great chance of this being Jordelia back to its roots, and on that case, I would be eager for it

Sebastian and the queen I'm probably the only person in this fandom who wants to read that story and I'm not sorry lol.I always thought Ash's existence to be the randomest fucking thing.Oh yeah evil Sebastian fucked the equally evil queen and now we have this little winged dude guy here, his name is Ash.I don't think this will be important to twp bc otherwise it would've been officially published, as other people have said, but for CC to write this spontaneously and afterwards WANT for this story to see the light of day, despite how controversial it would be? I'm a curious creature in essence, and my curiosity has been peaked.I get people being frustrated tho, I myself was annoyed at Sebastian featuring in Tda.I was like, this dude? Again? Thomastair Its the one I'm looking most forward to after Wessa.It will be sweet, hilarious, romcomish and I'm living for it.If it's a few years after chot, sona died (ops how tragic) and now the three of them are a little family with a dog my life would be complete.No I don't like Sona, Zachary should've been born sooner and she should've died saving alastair in chot, that would be the only that could've redeemed her to me.Her this is fine attitude makes my blood boil even now.She cared more for Elias, a very shitty husband at that, than for her own children, to the detriment of said children.I could yap about this all day

All my first thoughts are over here. I'm a Clace defender, I'm their oldest stan, I'm a veteran👩‍🦳 So I feel like I have a right to say that...it was kinda unnecessary. We've witnessed every step in their relationship so far, beginning of it in TMI, gentle transition to adulthood in TDA and Tales of Shadowhunter Academy, adulthood in SOBH and proposal. So if the story isn't about their wedding then WHAT THE HELL IS IT ABOUT REALLY? And we know that they won't get married until twp.

Hey🥺that is nice, we've seen so little of them in chain of thorns and I've loved them since their debut in 2018 in that short story. I'm very biased when it comes to TLH, cause I'm their mother. So YAY🌱they have a long way to go, Anna still needs to change a tiny little bit for them to be healthy, so I'd love to witness it

Lots of people defend it by saying that it might be important for Ash's background in TWP. But... No it's not. Because this is exclusive book made for few people who were lucky and financially stable enough to get it. It won't be posted online. So most people won't read it unless someone leaks it. So there's no point for that story to be important for the plot, therefore it has nothing to do with it.

And it's definitely not "one of the most beloved" couples. BUT LIKE... WHAT IF IT SLAYS? Toxic, unhinged romance, what if I'll love it? 🤡

Well... That was... Unexpected. I guess... I've just never met their fandom but I hope it's huge af, because I don't know why else would they be here. Sophideon, Gabrily and Charlotte with Henry were supposed to be here, let's be honest. But since they're here, I do think Cassie is able to make a decent story. I expect it to be bittersweet, angsty and somehow heartwarming. I think there's nothing to say except let's wait and find out.

OVERALL I think it's pretty fine. Maximum 7/10 from me. I was ready to face the worst, but it turned out to be... Fine. So it's fine☺🌱

Malec vs Clace

You know what - it isn’t a competition. If Clace was being portrayed by two actors with actual chemistry, I’m sure I would enjoy watching it. I mean, I liked the movie version well enough.

Yes, Malec is my favourite ship, but that doesn’t mean I don’t also really enjoy Raphael/Izzy, Simon/Maia, Jace/Maia. Heck, even Jonathan/Clary is working for me in a very disturbing this-is-so-messed-up way. Climon didn’t work for me not because of lack of chemistry but because I felt they would work better as BFF because Simon was more invested in the relationship than Clary was.

Liking Malec and not feeling Clace are not correlated events. It actually puzzles me when I get/see stuff like “oh if only the Malec fans and Clace fans would get along” or “oh I wish the Malec fans weren’t such bitches to Clace fans”. Honey, if Malec didn’t exist in this show, I STILL wouldn’t be shipping Clace. My main ship would probably be Rizzy or Simon/Maia.

You can send hate and wank my way all you like, but my opinion remains the same - show Clace doesn’t work for me. It is probably a combination of factors - lack of natural chemistry, lazy acting, lazy writing even. They feel more like brother and sister than lovers. Even from interviews between Dom and Kat, I don’t feel that they spend much time with each other. I feel like the actors and writers are going “hey, it’s two straight actors playing a straight couple - how difficult could it be?” The answer is: surprisingly difficult.

Malec on the other hand, works even though both actors are straight because they work very hard at it. Both of them are talented, and they know how important the ship is to the queer community, so they put in a lot of extra effort. It helps that they are actually friends and they hang out outside of work.

As a singer, when I sing as a group or in a duet, my music director always tells us we have to “hook” the other voices, and I believe it’s the same with acting and chemistry. What we see as onscreen chemistry is about two actors meeting each other heart/mind/soul with matching intensity.

When and if they finally get their act together and start delivering Clace as a believable relationship, believe me I will be as happy as the next Clace fan. Then I wouldn’t feel like I wanted to fast-forward through all their scenes. (Lack of Clace chemistry is the number 1 reason I almost decided not to bother with Shadowhunters.) Until then, I continue to cringe with second-hand embarrassment.

I do not like Jace in s1 of the show, but I do like him elsewhere — he could do with some more awareness of Alec & Alec's feelings, but he's also an interesting character and I like reading fic about him when it's written right. So tbh my opinion of him depends on what context I'm reading about him and how he's depicted.

hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang

yeah so. I get that he's supposedly very attractive. but I don't really like how he looks in either the show or the movie, and tbh I don't find blond hair particularly attractive? so I know he's supposedly hot but I don't really get it. (This is based on aesthetic attraction btw.)

hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff

As much as I like exploration of non-gryffindor traits for Jace, he is, fundamentally, gryffindor. He checks all the boxes (brave, self-sacrificing, reckless, brash, etc.)... basically all of the main characters of books/other media end up being gryffindors (which is exactly what happened in hp itself), so it's not really a surprise that Jace ends up in that house.

best quality: self-sacrifice

Jace is, like Alec, very self-sacrificing (the Soul Sword in the show, even if it didn't end up that way; I can't list an example from the books but it's definitely a major character trait). He's completely willing to give up his life if he believes it's the right thing to do.

worst quality: self-centred

This is not the same as selfish, I would like to point out. Jace doesn't really notice stuff that doesn't concern him — there's a ton of peripheral stuff in canon that he kinda ignores/doesn't notice. He's not intentionally not caring about other people, he just doesn't necessarily think through the consequences of his actions. It's something that he shares with Clary, and imo why he was so irritating in s1.

I used to really like Clace, but now I'm honestly more of a fan of Jimon — they're just super adorable together <3333333 the dynamic is great, Simon is going on about something & Jace is just looking at him sappily <3

Alec — WE NEED MORE PARABATAI CONTENT. I would love to see more about their relationship, especially on Jace's side — it's not very balanced in canon, imo. And Jace giving Alec the Headship in the show, and nominating Alec for Consul in the books, are two of my favourite scenes with Jace.

Magnus — brothers in law!!! They're way more similar than they seem (they both love Alec, they both have messed up father figures & relationships with said father figures, they both have traumatic pasts, they both use a facade of arrogance to hide their insecurities, etc.), and I feel like that could be really interesting when explored. Also, they definitely pretend to hate each other a lot more than they do, which is a really interesting dynamic.

This one's pretty obvious. Valentine is a horrible person and very manipulative in general, but he has a huge potential to hurt Jace.

I feel that book stans who say "Jace and Clary were not ACTUALLY related!" miss the point completely.

Let's say I was told that a guy I just met and got a crush on is actually my brother. First of all, my crush would instantly disappear. Second, even when it turns out that he's not actually my brother, my memory of him woul be tainted: on a romantic level I would always associate him with that sense of repulsion and wrongness.

Clary and Jace never feel repulsion. And any thought of wrongness simply vanishes as soon as they discover they're not related.

Are we meant to believe that "deep down, on a biological level, Clary and Jace knew they were not related! they felt they were made for each other, even when the world told them the opposite!" (actual quote from a book stan).

Like, no? Biology is not a super power? Clary's genes aren't telling her "hell no this guy is a complete stranger! word!"

Clare and her stans go on and on about how tormented Clace's love story is, how torn they are between doing what's right and doing what's pleasurable (which, again, 🤮🤮🤮 I could never associate pleasure with someone I suspect might be related to me). But in the books it never feels that way.

There's angst, sure. But they never hesitate to kiss and get all over each other anyway. So the angst is just empty and used to fill page space smh.

And the people around them? Who are supposed to talk some sense into them? And try to separate them? Do absolutely nothing?

I know that Clare grew up an only child, so I can understand having an interest in exploring siblings dynamics.

But there's a big difference between that and an incest fetish, which she definitely has (only book stans could argue otherwise).

Years ago, when TDA was in the works, she mentioned having an autistic step-brother, which I think she acquired in adult age.

1) Thinking about that makes me hate her portrayal of an autistic character even more (Ty not liking to look people in the eye but magically being able to do so with Kit because LoVe; Julian being such a martyr and a saint for taking care of someone affect by the Terrible Disease That Is Autism; Ty being obsessed with Sherlock Holmes (incidentally Cumberbatch's Sherlock - who was heavily coded as autistic - was at the peak of its popularity at the time... what a coincidence) and computers (because an autistic person has to have something going on for them, right? They have to be good with numbers!); Ty being very childish, pranking and laughing at Mark, when every autistic person I know - me included - gets SO uncomfortable anytime someone is made fun of (because that's something that happens to US all the time, and autistic people can have empathy and compassion and sympathy for other people, Cassandra);

2) Not even having a step-sibling made her reconsider her fetish.

And ok, fine, she has a fetish and wants to write about it in her series for teenagers? It's her right. I hate it, but it's her right.

But damn, the way the fandom goes about it does make me worry.

And I don't mean people writing fanfics; again, that's their right (some do it to cope with past trauma, too, so I can't judge).

It's the people writing huge rants about how the concept of "relatives" is a construct, and "all non-human animals have no qualms about it" and "as long as two people are consenting adults there's nothing wrong with it".

These people feel nothing but validation when the only people criticizing incest in Clare's books are the vapid, insufferable villains.

Big time. Clary’s leaps in intuition, knowing Jace was meant for her and being with Sebastian was something inherently wrong, just serve this narrative that it didn’t matter that they believed to be related to each other because deep down they knew.

No. Just no. No one reacts to this situation realistically. Clary shows repulsion once the truth has been revealed to her by Jocelyn, but until then she just pines after Jace like there is no factors present to do exactly the opposite.

It was a tormented love story in a sense that it was very torturous to read. Theirs is not an obstacle people can relate with. Their choice between right and pleasure doesn’t come off as that when the narrative gives them every opportunity to choose the latter.

Clary and Jace are free to drool over each other because the people around them don’t care. They don’t talk about it, they don’t express any feelings about it, nothing. Isabelle is bordering on accepting it, Simon doesn’t care because he can see how much it hurts Jace to love Clary. Alec is barely even present when it comes to this subject. So how exactly is their chances of being together been hindered by this when no one gives two shits about it?

Clare wants to represent autistic people with Ty but at the same time fails to create a character consistent to a disorder he has. It’s also noteworthy that Ty’s character was more so utilized to show how amazing and all-giving Julian is.

Over and over again Clare only exemplifies more how little she understands siblinghood. Jace and Clary are truly the beacon to it all. And yeah, everyone has a right to write what they want, but it’s a bit alarming that the valid criticism people have given to the Clace plot line is dismissed as hate and people just not understanding such complicated love story. And then we have Sebastian and Zara who are the only ones to actually say anything about it, but the way they are written rather implies that readers are supposed to side with Clary and Jace, and that Sebastian and Zara are just big meanies.

People still don’t seem to understand the difference between portraying and fetishizing.

That conversation is definitely a good scene, I guess I just don't find Jace's reasoning there to be super convincing. I do enjoy Jace's relationship with the memory of Stephen, but the idea that there's any importance to keeping a name alive just isn't something that appeals to me (though I accept that it is important to Jace).

The rest of my explanation kinda turned into a rant about the whole demon blood thing, so I'm putting it under a read more in case anybody doesn't want to see that.

Jace talks in that passage about how a name doesn't change the truth of who you are, and I just really don't like that sentiment. He says that Sebastian changing his name didn't change who he was, and implies that he was born a Herondale and thus is inherently a Herondale forever. It just feels so contradictory to the main thesis of TMI; to claim that the name someone was given at birth is somehow bound to their immutable self. (As a sidenote, this is why I don't like Sebastian as a villain. I think it's uninteresting to say that "he was born evil because of demon blood and that can never change"). I think TMI would be more interesting if Sebastian was capable of change, and I think that the story falls flat if Jace isn't. The demon blood storyline felt like it was building to Jace realizing that his genetic composition doesn't make him inherently evil, but instead it ended with him being reassured that actually he's biologically good and it's somebody else who's biologically evil. (It's not "your blood doesn't define you," it's "don't worry, somebody else got the demon blood so he's the one being defined by it"). Rather than learning that his relationship to Valentine doesn't define him, he gets to learn that actually he has a different father and a different family to be genetically predefined by. I'm not saying that I want Jace to be related to Valentine (I'm a Clace shipper after all), but I wish that the demon blood hadn't turned Sebastian evil either, and that Jace and Clary would be forced to deal with the fact that it was just Valentine's shitty parenting that made him turn out that way. Jace is treating it as a fact here that people can't change, that he's a Herondale and denying that fact would do nothing good for anybody. I think that people can change, and that the names belonging to your ancestors mean nothing on their own. He may not hate Stephen, but I don't think that he's got any reason to take his name (and it's very noticeable that he doesn't even consider calling himself Montclaire, even though as far as I'm aware that family would also die with him).

That got more aggressive than I intended, and I hope you don't think any of it was directed at you. I do think that him going by Jace Lightwood Herondale would be a good compromise so that he could express multiple facets of his family history, I just got distracted by how much the demon blood storyline annoys me (I still love TMI to bits though). I also think you made a really good point about him losing the right to the name in a year, since time pressure could definitely freak a person out. In a way it's safer for him to go by Herondale, because it's something he could lose; while the Lightwood family will always be open to him.

My firmest TSC take will always be that Jace should have gone by Lightwood in the end. I get that him being a Herondale makes sense in the grand scheme of the TSC universe (him, Will, James, Kit, and Edmund are all birds of a feather), but his personal arc is far more dependent on the family who raised him. Learning about his biological parents is of course important to him, but calling himself a Herondale doesn't actually feel like a resolution to his identity crisis. TMI is all about rejecting the hatred handed down from previous generations, which is why neither Clary nor Jace identify as Morgensterns. While Stephen was nowhere near as bad as Valentine, he also did even less to shape Jace into his adult self. Robert and Maryse on the other hand actually raised him for half his life, and Alec Isabelle and Max grew up alongside him as his siblings. He's a Lightwood in every way that matters, I don't get why Jace (in-universe) would choose to identify himself as a Herondale when there's nothing tying him to that family but blood spilled before he was born.

I totally agree with you abt clary and jace surviving twp. I also feels it always cheapens the story when an author kills of a main characther from an earlyer series in a new one. Like of course will and lucie and them are dead bc the passage of time so that I get you know it wouldnt be any fun if everyone became immortal but when its an actual kill i always really hate it like whats the reason, it just ruins both stories.

I believe a lot of it comes from the fact a lot of people don't like Clace or just don't really see them as important characters so if they die they don't care. It won't affect them. Well, at least not until they see how broken Alec & Magnus, and Izzy & Simon, and Max & Rafe would all be. Only then do o think they'll realize how stupid that move would be.

The thing about TMI gang is that they're all so deeply connected that to kill one would be to kill them all in a way. Look at how broken they all were when Simon was gone. He wasn't even dead just not in their lives anymore and that killed them. Because TMI gang are a family, and an extremely close onw at that.

People also believe that because they don't like Clace that that means everyone in the books also doesn't like them. When the books contradict that actually.

And I mean, they're entitled to their opinions of course, just as we ours. But there comes a point where you have to realize that your opinion is in the books.

For example, I like to write stories where the circle redeemed themselves. But that wasn't the case in canon. They all pretty much died. I have to remember my canon and the actual canon are not the same. Your canon is just as valid but that doesn't mean it's gonna happen in the books?

Anyway, I don't think CC is gonna kill them off. I just think people would prefer it to be them.

i have a huge problem with tsc main couples, usually because the plot is always some version of "forbidden love" and because it feels like cc is pushing them down my throat w/ the amount of scenes she writes for them.

much like you, jessa and kitty are the only main pairings i enjoy reading about - but i'm lowkey afraid of how different main-couple kitty will be from side-couple kitty (imo cc doesn't know how to write main couples).

1) kitty: this is using their tda dynamic, since we have no idea how they'll be in twp. they were my otp before i got to know thomastair, and i totally agree with everyone who says that they carried tda on their backs.

2) jessa: modern day jessa is probably my biggest comfort ship in tsc - all i need to do is think about them and their children in devon and i'm already smiling. i do have a few issues with tid!jessa: the way i read it, tessa emotionally cheated on jem more than once during their engagement - though i feel like that was cc not being able to not write about will for 5 pages. the cave scene is a big no also affected them, since idk how u can have sex with someone else hours after your fiancee just died. so, even tho i like jessa, they're very far from my number 1 spot - mainly bc of tid!jessa, modern jessa is flawless and they have my whole world 💁🏽‍♀️

now let's get into the other 4 couples, which i classify as boring/annoying.

3) jordelia: i know it seems like i hate jordelia, but i don't : ) they just are the most boring pairing in tlh for me. also, i'm very, very petty and i feel jealous of the amount of scenes jordelia gets in comparison to thomastair, what makes me feel robbed 👁️👄👁️

4) blackstairs: they were okay in the first book, there was the right amount of angst and yearning for me. but after los, everything went down. it was basically like this "oh julian, we can't be together because there's a curse and our entire family die because of it!" "no, emma! i could never risk my siblings' well being! they're my priority!" "you need to stay away from each other!" "yes!" and then they proceeded to have sex. not to mention how blackstairs became emma's entire character and pretty much killed what could've been a very cool main character for me.

5) wessa: they're probably my least favorite pairing, but clace is a whole new set of messed up and that's the only reason why they won't be on last... wessa annoys me more than any other couple. they're cliche, boring and the only memorable scene they have is the cave one, and it's memorable for wrong reasons.

6) clace: to be honest, i don't even remember much of clace and they don't annoy me as much as they did... 5 years ago? but i still remember how i stopped reading tmi on my first try because i absolutely despised them... and, as i said before, they really are very messed up. i saw the "i should punch the boys who want to do to you what i want to do with you" quote today, what's always a good reminder of how tmi books were and why i chose to forget everything non-simon that happened in them.

ps: tho i believe jace/clace are worst than will/wessa, i'm more into the period series, what means that i get reminded more of why i don't like will and wessa, which makes me get more annoyed with them than with jace and clace. does that makes sense?

Now bear with me because I have a lot to say

This fic it's so good!! It's very well written, it's hella long, like super super long which it's amazing because it allows for a lot of development in the story and the characters.

It has angst lots and lots of it... like really I'm not kidding...okay maybe it has too much angst but if a story doesn't make you want to scream, cry and throw things across the room why even bother right? And besides, going through all that angst makes the ending and the happy moments feel so much better 🥺

Moving on… it has a lot of fluff too, so many beautiful and romantic moments between Jace and Clary 😭❤️ I think their relationship in this fic it's really close to their canon, Jace feeling broken inside because of his past but finding a love and happiness that he never thought possible with Clary

Such beautiful sibling moments with Jonathan (in this fic he is the brother canon Clary always deserved) and I LOVED it because I had enough psyco Jonathan in TMI, thank you

There's also sibling moments with Jace, Alec, Izzy and Max ❤️🥺

And don't even let me get started with Valentine... if you think he was a monster in TMI... I can't even with this fic, there were parts where I literally wanted to throw up. And Sebastard it's not far behind... they are really good villians in this story. I hate them so much!!

But not everything it's evil and angst, there's funny moments too!

It has really good battle scenes!

Okay finally I want to say that this is one of my favorite Clace fanfics, I really recommend it. It's not a secret that I have a soft spot for Clace fics where they are royalty and this it's one of my favorites in that category

Okay, Clace had a lot of issues (CC lazy writing, Jace's out of nowhere feeling for Clary, too much drama) but THIS ONE wasn't their problem. Valentine was an excellent manipulator, he abused Jace all his life and all of this "siblings" thing was just another manipulation to make Jace hate himself even more.

💁🏼‍♀️But even if we forget about all of this manipulation thing....

You seriously believe that you can meet a person, fall in love with them, start experiencing sexual attraction to each other, THEN find out they're your sibling and immediately be like

I am not a psychologist, but it seems to me that siblings relationship originate from childhood. (Or its many years of platonic relationship where initially no one perceived each other as an object of romantic interest idk.).

In Clace case, these two saw each other as a love interest RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. It wasn't even about "hey we can be friends", no it was exactly about "you're hot, let's make out in a toilet". (Yep that's disgusting, but u can't tell me I'm wrong👁️👄👁️).

It would take them many months to stop thinking about each other romantically. And years to start treating each other as something like a family. (you can say "BUT JACE COULD STOP INTERACTING WITH HER OR START AVOIDING HER AT ALL TO MAKE AT LESS WEIRD", well I AGREE🤷🏼‍♀️ but I didn't write these books. And the plot needs to keep going, they just HAD TO keep interacting ;-;)

So yeah it's not about inc*st is cool, go practice.🤡 It's about making all those people on TikTok ("nah I don't like TMI, too much inc*st") understand that people's brains are a bit more complicated than a toothpick.
