Finished Amphibia season 1 and on the bus to work my brain lit up and i feverishly wrote down my thoughts about the themes of the season and i am too lazy to turn that into an eloquent text so here is my obsessive improvised bus-TedTalk lolol:

been reflecting more on the writing of season 1 and i cracked the CODE pfjfkfkdkd,, idk if this is for the whole show but season 1 to me seems to be about fighting for acceptance and a sense of belonging. the core of this is of course the friendship between anne and sasha, with sasha clearly being manipulative and abusive of annes desire to feel loved and accepted by her, a friend she's had since kindergarten (and also we never see her mention any other friend other than marcy, but we do see her getting bullied for bringing non-american food to school, so that hits even harder with her wanting to "belong" and be accepted). Since Marcy had zero lines idk what their relationship is like yet, but from what ive seen annes foundation of "belonging" is "be the person sasha wants you to be", and of course that gets her in the amphibia mess in the first place. ok so they end up there and while watching i didn't rly notice just how much of the episodes revolve around this same concept of wanting to belong and be accepted, especially between two difficult cultures. One of the first mirrors to her is Sprig, who is an outsider among the kids so he rly quickly wants to be friends with anne, and it's so interesting how anne sometimes adapts sasha's methods of being a friend. It's not as blatant as it is with sasha, with the most obvious example being in episode 1 where she literally tells sprig that's what friends have to do to stay friends, but it keeps happening a few times throughout the season, like with her pushing him to confess his love TWICE for purely entertainment despite him being uncomfortable with it. Tho when moments like these happen and she gets called out on it, unlike sasha, she feels very bad and apologizes and works to be better. She also embraces the culture of amphibia more and more as the season goes on, with the first few eps her always being like "ew" and fighting with hop pop over it, but working to understand their world better and feeling more and more comfortable with their way of living (something that sasha doesn't do). The town also is weirded out by anne at first, making assumptions about her and making fun of her, but slowly they learn to accept and be kind to her. I think it's rly important that anne does NOT do things she's uncomfortable with to be accepted by them, but is just being herself, and often addresses the things she messed up openly. That openness and honesty is what brings her a true sense of belonging in the town, especially after standing up for them in the tax-collectors episode. Everyone can understand at one point that anne is not perfect, but she cares for others and is genuine about it. They all become really fond of her and she is even elected as frog of the year, which hits really hard because that's one of the few times where anne feels like she has to live up to rly high expectations, but in the end they didn't vote for her because she's some superhero or perfect person. She is just herself, and they accept and appreciate her for that. I think the Wally episode is also really important for this. He talks about a nice way to look at the stressful situation of being in an unfamiliar environment with people who don't know or understand you: you don't have to keep up any appearances.

I think it's also interesting that the planter family are kind of outsiders and looked down upon themselves, with a bunch of episodes about them trying to belong more (the food competition, the groundhog day stuff). As such they are the first who can accept anne and sympathize with her, and along with anne they find more belonging and love from the townspeople as the season goes on.

Ok so ALL of that stuff is going on but then we get sashas episode and its like the reverse situation: all the toads at the tower feel like they don't belong, like they're not accepted. Sasha immediately takes advantage of that and showers them in a false sense of acceptance and love. Unlike Anne, we know that she doesn't care for or wants to understand their culture, and doesn't even see them as conscious people, just "gross frogs". But the toads find that acceptance they were longing for, even Grimes, who felt unseen as a leader, gets to have what he felt was missing. So while for sasha it's all just a strategy to get home, i think grimes genuinely feels thankful and belonging with her, which is why he gets so pissed in the season finale when she almost dies.

AND YEAH THE SEASON FINALE,, it's like the culmination of these two opposing storylines clashing, with anne now finally able to understand how harmful sashas way of friendship was to her, and communicating that to her. And it seems like it got through to sasha as well, seeing as she was willing to cut herself off from her for anne's own good at the end. It's such a good finale because of all the thematic buildup, and because it highlights that when people are not able to understand one another and each others perspectives, the most important thing they need to do is to just communicate that to each other, openly and genuinely, without putting on a facade.

i talked mostly about how this applies to different cultures cus that seems to be most fitting for the show so far but these themes of belonging and acceptance of course are also a great fit for lgbt and neurodivergent stuff lolol, figured out why i'm so obsessed rn at last

Okay look.

I’m a big fan of both Amphibia and Owl House, and both are pretty great shows, but for someone to say “Amphibia is better than Owl House” just feels wrong to me. And I’m not saying you can’t like Amphibia more, because that’s valid, but there is just no way it’s better I’m general.

Owl House has done so much in the representation department for not only the lgbtq+ community but also poc, people with different body types, etc. But Amphibia on the other hand, only (at the moment) has three main human characters, who yes 2/3 of them are poc, but they’re all literal stick figures. Luz has a realistic body type, while Anne looks like she hasn’t eaten in years. I understand people look like that but for all three of those characters to be skinny is just… eh. I understand it’s the art style, but in the trailer for season 3 they showed people with different body types so I don’t understand why they didn’t do that from the beginning.

And while both shows do this pretty well, I can’t help but favor the way owl house covers actual human behavior (idk how else to describe it sos) more than Amphibia. Like in the beginning of Amphibia I was hooked on Anne struggling to understand the true meaning of friendship, but I kinda forgot about it as the series went on. What I love about owl house is they give characters redemption, but don’t always say you’re forgiven. Like in understanding Willow after Amity apologized Willow says something along the lines of “I can’t say we’re friends, but it’s a start” and Willow and Amity haven’t had many moments of extreme friendship since then. Like their friendship didn’t pick right back where it left off. Sasha is an interesting character though, because of her “I know what I’m doing isn’t right in Anne and/or Marcy’s eyes, but I like what I’m doing” which is something I wish they dove into a little more. How this is a point you may be wondering, is while both shows do it well, the owl house is more constant with it, and shows it with more than just the main characters.

The main characters in both shows can’t compare I’m sorry. Luz is not only great representation, but she’s a take on the “quirky” stereotype that makes her more than just that. She also does so much to help the people she likes, and even manages to make her way into people hearts (😏). I also find her very relatable and funny but that’s me. It just makes sense to me why the show is centered around Luz… but Anne. Anne is an okay character, I just wish she wasn’t the main one. I’ll admit she’s done a bit, but compared to Marcy and Sasha, her trauma is kinda just witnessing everyone else get hurt. Yes, that’s an awful thing, but I would much rather see Marcy or Sasha as the main character. I will admit, Anne not being the classic Disney channel cartoon quirky female main character is nice, I can’t help but feel she’s a bit… basic? This point is a bit more opinionated so I apologize for that.

The fillers is the biggest problem for me. Owl house did a great job making filler episodes that had to do will the plot or world building in someway, and with an exception of a couple episodes in season 1, people usually find all of the episodes entertaining in some way. Amphibia season 1 makes me want to jump out the window. There’s only two episodes I actually like watching in that season, and wow it’s the ones with Sasha in them! Season 2 is a bit better, but honestly I only like the filler episodes with Marcy in them. While I understand it’s a “kids show”, when you have another kids show on the same channel, playing at the same time period, who can manage to bring an adult audience who enjoys the filler episodes, I don’t see how you can use that as an excuse. Someone also pointed out the fact that Amphibia is more of a slow burn, which makes sense, but they could have executed it in a better way that was more compelling to the audience. I’ve seen too many people stop watching Amphibia because of the filler episodes, and people shouldn’t have to skip over content because it’s boring, you know?

I also feel more of an attachment to all of the characters in owl house. Like I either love them, or I love to hate them, no matter who they are. Like it’s been a year since we got any real Skara scenes, and I still love her… but in Amphibia I could care less about most of the frogs. Like I don’t even remember most of their names- I feel like having a cast of characters that people can love and appreciate, no matter who they are, contributes to a great show. Not only do I talk about this a little bit, but the fandoms honestly show this as well. The owl house fandom has done so much to make the Hexside students seem like a bigger deal than they are because they actually like them. In Amphibia, you can find one or two posts about a certain character, and never hear about them again OR the character is all you hear about.

Tbh tho, both shows are extremely similar, and I see why it’s hard to choose one over the other, I just have to be honest and say I don’t understand why Amphibia is better. I know most of my arguments were based on opinion, but like, a lot of people agree with my opinion (except the Anne thing. I’ll forever be alone on that). If you like Amphibia more, than good for you, I won’t judge. This is just how I feel about it and I would love to hear your opinion.

But while we’re here I will be talking about the utter bs Disney is showing to the two shows. Like Amphibia is getting ANOTHER theme song take over, a Christmas special, celebrity voice actors, and not to mention a full season three…

While the owl house is stuck with shortening it’s third season cause “budget cuts”. Bitch please. If you were losing so much money, then why not take some of your money away from Amphibia’s theme song take over and put it towards a full season three for toh. They both get the same amount of attention, but just because one is pushing boundaries for violence rather than the lgbtq community, doesn’t mean you can pick favorites.

Bnha Marriage Headcanons

KIRIBAKU

- KiriBaku got married first no I will not change my mind

-Baku wanted to get it done right after they graduated so 1, they can be married before they really get into hero work and risk death and 2, they can focus on their work since they married already

-the thing is; they had no celebration

-they just went to a courthouse one day and signed the papers and boom they're done

-(jirou and shinsou were the witnesses since they can keep secrets)

-and no-one really said anything about it

-Bakugou just said to Kiri after a date (while they were still third-years) and was like

- "Let's get married"

-and Kiri was so shocked he was just like "oh ok sure"

-bakugou did not appreciate that

-"WHO SAYS 'OK SURE' TO A PROPOSAL???"

-"THAT WAS BARELY A PROPOSAL KATSUKI YOU DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A RING"

-they were married for 12+ years before they had a ceremony

-it was pretty epic ngl

-lots of red and gold and dragon-esque imagery because that stuff is rad

-wedding armour? I say yes

-bakugou threw the bouquet straight into Deku's face

-"KACCHAN I'M ALREADY MARRIED"

-"I DON'T GIVE A FUUUUUUUUUCK"

-Eijirou and Katsuki hyphenated their last names (when they signed the papers after they graduated)

- Mr. And Mr. Bakugou-Kirishima

-Their kids got to be involved! It was great

TODODEKU

-they actually waited a bit after they graduated and got their careers in order to get married (like responsible adults)

-they waited a year or two

-Izuku proposed (Shouto cried)

-the wedding was suprisingly extra for an anxious broccoli and bitchy peppermint

-lots of silver and stars

-Inko would've gotten into a fist-fight with Shouto if he didn't let her help pay for anything

-and said fight almost happened

-they ended up compromising and she helped pay for Izuku's suit

-All Might mostly happy-cried the entire time (he was Izuku's best man)

-endeavor? Whose he? We don't know him. He don't get to show. This is an Emdeavor-free zone

-Shouto started crying during the vows, and his best man (Bakugou) had to read them for him

-it was funny

-since the #1 pro hero was getting married, it was a huge deal for the media

-think the royal wedding levels of huge

-the wedding was just for family and friends tho

-so the paparazzi can suck it

-Shouto took Izuku's last name (because SCREW Endeavor)

TSUYURAKA

- Tsu proposed a week or two after the TodoDeku wedding

-She'd been planning it for months her friends' wedding just so happen to have occured beforehand

-they were very efficient about planning the wedding tho so they were only engaged for like a few months (3-4)

-the wedding was magical

-nature Flowers FROGS

-you can bet your ass it was Princess and the Frog themed

-"they put chemicals in the water that turned the freaking frogs gay"

-they decided to not take each others' last names they just vibed with their own

-Urarake was DEFINITELY a bridezilla

-but like

-a badass bridezilla

-but she turned into a marshmallow during the actual ceremony

-she did better than Shouto tho

-she was able to actually say her vows

-the whole thing was super sweet

-the reception tho

-the reception was lit

-they totally had a preplanned first dance as wives

-and it was awesome

-Momo caught the bouquet

-Lesbian Luck if I may

-it was the ultimate Gal Pal ceremony

SHINKAMISERO

-it was an amazing mess from the beginning

-Sero proposed to his boyfs on their dating anneversary

-but it turns out

-Shinsou had the same exact idea

-(Kami hadn't really thought of it)

-so that was pretty fun for Kami, being proposed to by both of his boyfriends that day

-They got married before TodoDeku, but they weren't the first (not counting Kiribaku)

-Sero was just happy to be getting married, so he wasn't much help during planning

-Kaminari was the control-freak, surprisingly

-he just really wanted to have an amazing wedding don't judge this poor hopeless romantic

-shinsou just asked questions like "so when the priest guy says 'you may now kiss the grooms' how are we gonna kiss? There's three of us"

-Shinsou also almost forgot to get a suit

-he only got his suit like 2 weeks before the wedding date

-dont tell Kami, but the wedding was low-key kinda basic

-(oh except for the fireworks)

-but it was still amazing

-Eri was the flower girl and ring bearer

-I know she's like 11 at this point but hush she deserves this

-there were little pikachu cookies at the reception

-they were a hit

-since this is a poly wedding there were some complications

-there were 3 first dances as husbands

-3 sets of groomsmen (do they even have that many friends among the 3 of them?)

-there were some roadbumps

-but did they care?

-no

-they all joined the Sero club and were just happy to be married

-they decided to be ~unique~ and they made an amalgamation of their last names

- Shin-ar-o (Shin from Hitoshi, Ar from Denki, O from Hanta)

-So they all have the last name Shinaro now

-their first kid was born 9 months after their honeymoon

-sooooo 👀

AOMINA

-Second to be married with a ceremony (Mina was almost disappointed)

-Mina proposed since Aoyama is mr. No balls

-he did buy her a ring that matched his engagement ring

-the wedding itself was very extra

-mina almost got cancelled because "her dress was sparklier than her husband"

-theme? No. Just sparkle

-Aoyama had really long vows that was generously seasoned with healthy doses of French

-Mina expected this and so her vows were pretty short

-Their reception was wild

-no children allowed

-it was an epic rave and they had a pretty fantastic time

-Mina and Aoyama actually spent a crap load of time planning the wedding

-they were fiances for almost 8 months

-since Aoyama is a low-key attention slut, the media was allowed to be involved

-(mostly everyone else with their weddings didn't really want the media to be involved)

-so they did a lot of interviews about the planning process and who they were hiring and who was involved and the whole shebang

-they legit had fun with it

-legally, Mina took Yuuga's last name, but everyone still uses Ashido (she wanted them to)

-Yuuga got drunk at the reception and proceeded to cry the rest of the night and ramble about how happy he was

-(Mina also got drunk but instead she danced on a table then proceed to pass out)

HAGOJIROU

-they were the first to be married with a ceremony

-Ojirou proposed a few months after they graduated

-there were many botched proposal attempts before that

-but it worked out in the end

-PASTEL WEDDING PASTEL WEDDING

-Hagakure's dress made her look like a cupcake it was pretty fantastic

-Ojirou said 'Naw' to a black suit so he really rolled up in a baby blue suit

-slay king

-there was tons of cloud/sky imagery since that sounds super cute

-since Hagakure's dress was so poofy, she had a black swan moment during the reception and changed into a black dress more suited for dancing and general partying

-although they were the first wedding, they still had the biggest cake, to this day

-surprisingly, neither of them cried during the vows

-Ojirou did get pretty misty-eyed tho

-Hagakure will say she didn't cry but it's not like anyone can prove her wrong

-Tooru took Mashirao's last name

-Tooru Ojirou <3

-(Tooru was already pregnant when they got engaged but shhhhh don't tell nobody)

MOMOJIROU

-GAL PALS GAL PALS GAL PALS GAL PALS

-they were one of the last to get married in the first group (like, there was a large group of people who all got engaged at once, and Momojirou was one of the last ones)

-Momo proposed but you know what that means

-the most extra engagement ring ever

-it was black and purple and amazing

-Jirou was a tad overwhelmed by it (but she still loves it)

-She has a plainer ring she wears out and about, she only wears the super fancy one during events

-VICTORIAN WEDDING LET'S GOOOO

-it was also space themed and super pretty

-not nearly the most extra wedding, but certainly quite extra

-Jirou cried a lot

-Momo did a lot of pleased smiling

-it was real sweet

-their reception was elegant and amazing

-their first dance was AMAZING and heartwarming and just real sweet

-Momo just wanted to keep becoming more extra and more extra and even MORE extra

-Jirou had to reign her in a lot

-the venue and catering and all that stuff was lovely and expensive

-(which almost gave Jirou a stroke)

-Momo just wanted the best for her gal pal

-btw the gal pal joke was carried through the whole wedding

-it even said it on the invite

-"You have been formally invited to the Gal Pal wedding of Kyouka Jirou and Momo Yaoyarozu"

-Jirou took on the Yaoyarozu last name because idk she felt like it

DSC 2x05 [SPOILERS]

This one was a real mixed bag for me. I really enjoyed watching it! And I thought that certain parts of it were really well done. It had a unified plot in the way that 2x03 “Point of Light” didn’t, but it did have the same over-stuffed feeling that episode gave me.

1) Resurrections are tricky, particularly in Sci Fi (vs. say Fantasy where it’s often easier to pull that off via magic or whatever) and I was happy about Hugh’s return but also I wondered if they could pull it off well. And they did! The technobabble around what happened to him made sense because it had character heart: Stamets’ behavior in the face of loss that brought about this situation, in his messed up/inbetween state in S1, felt emotionally authentic and the way Hugh navigated his impossible/terrible half-life felt true to him too. Like, discovering and using the bark felt very ic for him as a scientist and doctor.

It works because it fits within the science/ecology themes of Stamets’ overall arc. During wartime he did what so many scientists have done, which is let his research be weaponized. But it was also an earnest reaching for the sublime too - and out of that comes both destruction and creation. And the necessity of respecting nature - which doesn’t mean rejecting scientific inquiry, it means also recognizing the importance of limits to our ability to instrumentalize nature and bend it to our will.

IMO Stamets’ is going to be the one who advocates for shutting down the whole spore drive thing and burying the tech ultimately. NOT in a denial of science and the beauty of exploration, but out of respect for the balance of nature and the worth of natural phenomenon separate from how we can make them into tools to enact our will.

2) I liked the Spore!May/Tilly stuff. My monsterfucker senses were tingling at their comments about the kind of union they experience together and how they’re both into it... but, otoh, last episode the emphasis was on Tilly’s feelings about human!May and her regrets there. So it was weird to totally switch tracks and have no echos of that: here it was like spore!May didn’t carry that baggage of memory and regret? I’m not sure. I feel like they must have more planned for this storyline, to wrap it up. Particularly since IMO it’s going to connect to the final closing of the spore drive/burying of the tech in Stamets’ plot. I liked what we got, but I am also on a “wait and see” footing re: whether the components of Tilly’s story will come together well and fit with the overall themes.

It’s definitely about reaching out and risking connection/having faith even against the evidence: Tilly choosing to have faith in Spore!May, Spore!May choosing to trust Tilly and let Hugh live. So... components are strong. But I want the two different things May represents (human and spore) to be handled more.

3) I’m fascinated by what they’re doing with Philippa. Like... I thought they’d skipped over her development but now I see that they want us, the audience, to be with Michael in her uncertainty about what Philippa’s deal is. What does she intend? What’s her bigger plan?

Sometimes faith and trust can heal past damage (like with spore!May) as much as it can be healed. But sometimes you’re the frog trusting a scorpion. How do you decide?

All the super obvious Biblical imagery - the apple, the “snake” stuff - was really... on the nose, but in a fun way? Philippa is Satan tempting our St. Michael?

I mean, last season we had the good and bad angels (Gabriel and Michael) warring over the soul of the Discovery (and then Michael warring with Philippa for the soul of the Federation), so... /spreads hands/ IMO the end of S1 will prove to have only been the first battle in a war over the soul of the Federation potentially; depending on how they take Section 31.

And I speculate that Philippa is going to offer some kind of very real temptation to Michael at some point. (And not just in the sexy scenarios playing themselves out in my brain lol). IDK how that is going to go, but it’s being set up and it’s looking VERY interesting.

I’m happy for them to keep Philippa’s game under wraps if we can have this shared tension/uncertainty with Michael as this plot plays out.

4) It was so nice to have Ash back... I feel like he’s going to get used as a cat’s paw/honeypot by Philippa and/or Section 31 though. He very much feels like a smaller piece in a much, much bigger game with the way he was reintroduced as a connection to Section 31 and the power conflict between Philippa and Leland going on there. (By which I mean Philippa is basically running that show, for better or worse; bald-y does not have half her talent for maneuvering) I don’t think the “tra la la all the misfits together!” thing is exactly as advertised. Poor guy. He is Looking Good tho damn... His hair is just luscious. And the beard even works for me now? A++ work, stylists! Thank you svm :)

I thought the interactions with Michael were well handled - they still care about each other but a lot of stuff has gone down and they need to get to know each other all over again. And this time maybe take things slow? Since the first time they did things really fast.

5) I liked the opening voice over but the one at the end felt like too much? Too on the nose? And not exactly what I got out of the episode.... like, it seemed to be about the open question of faith/trust in *other people* not in some kind of a supreme being guiding your path. So there was this strange disjuncture between what I felt like the episode was getting at and where the voice over took it.

Also sometimes the religious references here just felt sort of thrown at the wall to see what would stick? Though I DO love Philippa as the snake tempting Michael. But it seemed a little fuzzy to me at times.

Marshclan

Sorry everyone, I know it's been a while, and I kinda forgot to check my drafts. Here's a long overdue submission through mobile because I'm bored and away from my computer.

it's been a bit since i last submitted forestclan to u (thanks again, as always, for reviewing them it was a big help) and this time i'd like to go over the other clans. they are named marshclan and moorclan (tho i'm also considering hill or prairie as a name for moor but. here is marshclan!

Marshclan

marshclan lives across the border from forestclan, and they live close to an estuary, and their territory is a freshwater marsh. their camp is located on a small island. Their marshland is a decent size, though not super big. marshclan are comfortable in water, and teach their kits to swim at a young age. drypaws are sometimes looked at funny, and teased playfully (since "you have to get your paws wet some time!" and they do, wading through the water if they can, though usually swimming happens anyway).

Seems like a good start, and marshes are a great place to hunt and teeming with prey. How does the clan handle heavy periods of rain? Does the camp flood? If so do they have a secondary camp or high ground they retreat to?

marshclan cats have short fur or long fur (not which would aid better in swimming? i feel like they both have benefits so i'm trying to decide). i'm gonna sit down at some point and go through a list of breeds that might fit the aesthetic and go from there (they are primarily moggies, tho)

I've debated the question of shirt vs long as well. It partially depends on the climate of the region, do they have snow and such in winter? How cold is the water on average. Because you could have, say Norwegian Forrest looking cats with their thick double layered fur (which worked well in you know Norway) or you could have cats like Bengals or fisher cats, with shorter thicker fur in a warmer climate where the temperature rarely dropped beneath a certain threshold.

either way, pelt color wise, white spotting is common, dilutes are common as are black-based coats. ginger is rare. thinking about tossing maybe colorpoint in this gene pool but idk yet so we shall see !

I've seen a lot of people use cats with high white spotting for water based clans (which isn't bad it's just interesting). I would say that for cats in a Marsh they'd have to blend in well with the reeds and other water plants, because they arent just really fishing anymore, they are catching frogs, stalking birds, scooping out turtles. I would imagine they wouldn't want to stand out too much in the landscape, especially if it's open to the sky and the bigger predator birds, and white would paint kind of a target in that regard. Color points are always interesting, and are generally more common than other recessive genes, though how they would turn our color wise would also depend on climate too.

predators include: minks, opossums, raccoons, some of the bigger wader birds (herons, f.ex) and while not a predator, frogs are not to be eaten.

I'm curious about the frogs? Why is that?

prey: insects, rats, water voles, mice, birds, some fish, snakes, lizards, and if they can get it, they enjoy eating an egg yolk every now and then.

marshclan is very family orientated, and tend to have close family relations; they enjoy joking with one another and are often viewed as vain, lazy and not taking matters seriously.

theme naming is pretty big here (water themed names and bug themed names are a favorite) and they have named kits after close family members (assuming, of course, the prefix is not already used in the clan at the time of the kitten being born). they are not afraid to get dirty and splashing in the water and such is a fun activity for them, especially in the summer time. while they do keep their pelts clean, it's not uncommon for it to be muddy and such (which earns them a side-eye from forestclan since they're very meticulous about appearances and marsh seems to just.. not care).

I love themed litters it's my favorite thing. At one point I had a clan which would rotate themes for each litter so as to help cut down on the possibility of repeating names. So no two litters within a few seasons of each other had the same theme. But anyway this seems to all fit with the setting quite well. As much as they would want to keep clean, with all the water and much around them it would be hard, probably impossible. I imagine they groom enough to get nasty tangles out during their active day and then do one thorough grooming before settling in their nest. I would at least want my sleeping place clean for sure.

i think that's enough for now, haha. don't wanna overload U with it, just some stuff to show where i'm started on as a base. c: that said, i do think i'm going to also have marsh and moor be matriarchal as well but i'll see how that goes... anyway, hope u like them! they def still need fleshing out i know, and my last clan will be moorclan. thanks again!

Summersea’s GoT Season 5 2019 Rewatch

We’ve reached the season that made me rage-quit a show that had once been my absolute favorite back in May of 2015! That means I’ve seen about half of these once four years ago. So... here we go.

5x01

1. WHY is Maggy the Frog sexy?

2. WHY is there no mention of the valonqar? Were they already planning Bran? Did they not think we could handle a word in another language? WHAT?

3. That scene with Jaime and Cersei at Tywin’s body hurts but SHE KIND OF HAS A POINT ABOUT JAIME KIND OF ACCIDENTALLY BEING A TEENY BIT RESPONSIBLE THO (on the other hand how could he have knoooooown Tyrion was going to KILL DAD?)

4. So... Varys is an immigrant who cares more about Westeros than most people born there, yes?

5. That poor Unsullied JUST WANTED TO CUDDLE

6. Missandei being to shy to say something to the tune of “whatever it is you can do I’d like to do it with you” to Grey Worm is... impossibly sweet.

11. I remember so little of Dany’s story from this part... Mossador seems cool but is he secretly loyal to the sons of the Harpy??? I remember something about her being ambushed? (I was right about the ambush, wrong about Mossador he was always loyal to Dany in his way.)

13. Varys being like DRINK LESS TYRION

1. That interior of the house of black and white with the pool and all of the gods... so cool and creepy

2. HOW OLD IS TOMMEN ANYWAY?? What a sweet kid though.

3. The Queen off continues... and Margaery shoots herself in the foot. That was CERSEI TRYING TO BE NICE FOR HER SON’S SAKE. And you can SEE the moment Cersei’s like FUCK THIS IT’S WAR

4. OMG pooR traumatized Theon and EW flayed men

5. RIDE THE OTHER WAY SANSA

6. Littlefinger has clearly not met Ramsay fucking Snow. Otherwise nothing he says to Sansa here makes sense.

7. At least they had the decency to admit that Brienne had been nasty to Pod and have them actually start to develop a sweet friendship. And Brienne tells him the story of the ball and Renly :(

8. I like that we’re getting some Jon and Davos interaction. So much good hearted gruffness in one place!

9. Sansa’s arrival at Winterfell just... no

10. TAKE LORD JANOS OUTSIDE YES THIS WAS SO LONG COMING

11. Ok that scene with the high septon and the prostitutes in the costumes of the Seven was kind of hysterical

13. Wow, Jonathan Pryce, how did they get you for this? You’re better than this nonsense but getting to see you and Lena in a scene together is a gift.

14. Ok I jumped at Gregor rattling around on the table

15. So... Littlefinger hadn’t heard much about Ramsay, and the bastard is on his best behavior when LF comes to Winterfell. That answers some questions

16. Holy crap Tyrion is a child playing with the windows that roll up and down.

18. What is a red priestess doing preaching that Dany is the savior? Do they each have their own pet theories about who AA is?

5x04: Jaime and Bronn go to Dorne and there are some people pretending to be the Sand Snakes

1. The theme of this ep so far is “Lannister brothers on ships”

2. Jorah stealing the boat and throwing silver on the poor dude 😂

3. I... think I might not have seen this episode because I have NO MEMORY of that scene where Jaime tells Bronn he’s going to kill Tyrion if he ever sees him again. My heart.💔 (I found my tumblr archive form May of 2015, and I definitely HAD seen it. I think my brain just protected me from remembering this because it hurt too much.

4. I want a million reaction gifs of Qyburn being done or clearly having Thoughts Not Expressed

5. Do you know WHY the Faith Militant was disbanded Cersei my love? Cersei who is the mother of three of her brother’s children? BECAUSE THE FAITH HAD ISSUES WITH THE ALL THE TARGARYEN INCEST. What in ALL SEVEN HELLS possessed you to rearm them that kind of power?

5x05: And now my watch was ended because D and D did something awful in the next episode.

As I mentioned before, after I rewatched the whole season, I went back to my archive and found the last post where I talked about watching GoT when it aired first run, and it was about this episode. I just read it again for the first time and MY FEELINGS HAVE NOT CHANGED on many points.

1. Letting Viserion and Rhaegar eat that Meereenese noble is something Aerys would have done and doesn’t make them love her any more likely to behave.

2. So... who is writing Maester Aemon about Dany?

3. Jon Snow, Breaker of Chains? I like that he frees Tormund and gives him reasons to follow him but lets the choice be his.

4. Grammar stickler Stannis is always good for a laugh.

5. Wait wait... Brienne was close enough to Winterfell to SEE IT OUT THE WINDOW??? What in all Seven Hells?

6. We needed a scene of Myranda and Ramsay talking about Sansa like I needed a dagger in the eye

7. Ok ok cool parallel of Sansa standing at the base of the tower looking a lot like Cat.

8. Holy shit did Sansa not know Theon was there before Myranda showed her???

9. Ramsay playing mind games with Theon making him think he’s going to hurt him... yikes

10. And forcing the two of them to interact in ways that he could control and make awful was... kind of smart

11. No Walda should not be telling people she’s pregnant... but how could she know that Ramsay was a danger to her unborn child? She seems a trusting sort.

12. Sam insisting that Gilly knows valuable things too is... so pure

13. This rewatch is turning me into a rampant Missandei/ Grey Worm shipper and I like it.

14. Dany’s outfit when she goes to see Hizdar in prison looks very Star Wars to me.

15. Jorah and Tyrion sailing through the Doom is still the DUMBEST shit.

16. The old city looks neat though. And that’s a fun poem.

17. AND A WHOLE ENTIRE DRAGON (are dragons homing pigeons?)

18. Tyrion’s face when he sees that dragon is still so great

19. STONE ZOMBIES ARE CREEPY and now Jorah has greyscale.

5x06: I want to just watch this episode and get it out of the way and at the exact same moment I NEVER WANT TO WATCH IT EVER. It’s Schroedinger’s Episode.

I know this is the episode with THAT SCENE. The reason that I finally stopped watching. Let’s just assume I’m going to be angry but also probably very affected by performances and extremely upset.

1. In the House Of Black and White, a curious child adores an open door....

2. Arya doesn’t hate the Hound. That she still does is a lie she tells to herself, and I THINK THAT’S INTERESTING.

3. Well of course Jorah wouldn’t know about his dad’s death... :(

4. holy shit Arya making up lies on the spot to comfort that sick little girl before helping her KILL HERSELF

5. That is some SERIOUS MAGIC SHIT GOING ON with all those faces. That scene is exactly as creepy as it needs to be

6. Tyrion has some points about Dany having Targaryen crazy in her dna and how she hasn’t spent a day in Westeros...

7. Well... Tyrion found some people who think his cock is as magical as he does. To bad they want to sell it unattached.

8. Cersei is working out of Tywin’s office. Love it.

9. Wow Petyr... that’s a play for power. He gets the North, he gets Sansa...

10. Trystane Martell is SO CUTE. And I miss Aimee as Myrcella.

11. I LIKE TO IMPROVISE?? Like Indy??? Jfc Jaime

12. Wtf even was all that nonsense in the water gardens other than some cool fight choreography. (Have I mentioned how pretty the Water Gardens are? SO PRETTY.)

13. The parallels between Cersei and Olenna and Tywin and Olenna in that office.... right down to the Lannister writing to make Olenna wait... fascinating.

14. Cersei did NOT expect the Sparrows to trot out Olyvar. Did she? She genuinely seemed surprised when he walked into the room.

15. Olenna thinks it’s Cersei’s fault anyway and that’s what matters.

16. Sansa’s dress is pretty and the Weirwood is pretty and everything else is awful and there was NO NEED FOR THAT SCENE. It didn’t tell us ANYTHING NEW ABOUT RAMSAY and what he’s capable of or shed any new light on Sansa or Theon it’s just gratuitous rape and psychological torture porn and it’s just gross.

5x07

1. Maester Aemon holding little Sam is the most precious thing. He will be missed. “Egg I dreamed I was old” 😢

2. Oof. That first scene in this ep between Sansa and Theon is ROUGH. She is so desperate and he is so brainwashed and the fact that she can be furious at him one moment and reminding him who he is the next... my heart was not meant to take this.

3. Is this scene supposed to mirror Sansa and Joffrey on the wall? IT IS only with more sophisticated mind games.

4. WHY ARE YOU POKING HIM ABOUT WALDA’S BABY SANSA DO YOU WANT ALL OF YOU TO DIE

5. Stannis being like THIS IS OUT LAST CHANCE TO MARCH SOUTH AND NOT BE STUCK AT THE WALL. But... don’t people bop up there all the time after this? D and D probs forgot.

6. So... Ghost has just decided he likes Sam and Gilly? He has good taste in people.

7. Dany is with Daario for a LONG time. I hadn’t realized how drawn out their thing was.

8. I AM A QUEEN NOT A BUTCHER no Dany you’re a bbq-er. Sigh.

9. Tommen being helpless breaks my heart a bit. And that scene between him and Cersei is... devastating.

10. Myrcella is Sansa part 2... pretty and naive and at the mercy of the adults around her

1. Tyrion’s intro to Dany about why he’s valuable makes me so angry. Not because I think it’s badly written, but because Tyrion tells her true things that she apparently didn’t internalize about devotion and wisdom.

2. Poor scaly Jorah... tossed out of Meereen.

3. Religious people who try to starve and torture confessions out of those they think have sinned need to DIE IN A FIRE. I am so done with the Faith.

4. Arya “Lanna” selling oysters is cool and all but now I want oysters.

5. Qyburn is a darling atheist and Cersei’s best ally in that place.

1. The armchair theologian in me has questions about the reality of the lord of light given the timing of the snow melting enough that Stannis can movie his army. (My wife thinks Mel did some serious blood magic in this case that may or may not have involved any actual divine intervention)

2. FEEL BAD STANNIS YOU MADE CHOICES

3. I would feel worse for Selyse if she hadn’t been horrid to Shireen every single other second.

4. Yay they figured the Valyrian steel swords work. Sam is smart.
