What is your favorite canon muse? How far do go with divergencies when it comes to your canon muse?
Happy Mundaymas - Accepting
What is your favorite canon muse?
Ooo that's a hard question. I really have loved Urbosa so far. She's the first honest-to-god hero I think I've ever played, and I'm enjoying it much more than my younger self ever would have thought. Part of the issue is I've always gravitated towards older female muses and those tend to be on the antagonist's side if they're given agency over themselves and their actions, thank you western media.
Besides Urbosa, my favorite is probably Mrs. Lovett still. I played her the longest, had several long-lasting partnerships that spawned great threads and fics, and still have a lot of affection for her. She was a way to touch into my romantic side in a (admittedly hilariously) safe way, since I was always into exploring the dark side of relationships, but still preferred presenting them in the light of "this is fucked up, and that's why it rules in this context." I also enjoyed the external pressure put on Nellie as a single woman in a time period which made that intensely difficult. While I love interpersonal relationship drama, I also love man versus society plots, so the pressure of "can I make taxes/heat/food expenses this month" was enjoyable to me.
How far do go with divergencies when it comes to your canon muse?
Aside from the cop-out answer of "it depends on the muse/source material" I suppose I find a middle ground? Historically I've played very few characters that had a rigid canon presence, since I tend to play side characters. I also enjoy playing in the corners of muses' lives that canon doesn't touch. Using the above example, the implication in Burton's Sweeney Todd is that she was widowed recently/at an older age, but it's never expressly stated. Instead, I had Albert die off a few years after their wedding, leaving her in hundreds of pounds of debt, even after they sold off most of their assets.
I do generally try to maintain major plot points, though. If I twist happenstance, I usually section it off into its own AU, even if it's a relatively well-known plot twist (Calamity beaten during the first attack in BOTW, for example).
With that said, I have absolutely nothing against canon divergent muses! I think they're great and often outdo the source material! I do appreciate a bio of what gets changed, though, so I don't accidentally reference things from canon that don't happen in your muses' history.

Name: Emily
Age: 32
Pronouns: she/her
Timezone: Central
Where are you from?: Chicago Suburbs of Illinois
Characters in the group:
Luz Noceda (this blog!)
Lucia Chauvet (@cerruleanmonarch)
A little about yourself:
Howdy y'all it's me Emily and welcome to my weird yet relatable downward-then-upward spiral!
Anyway I've been RPing since like 2012ish? And I've been in Isola since before it was Isola, as part of the initial migration. If you've been here a while, you may remember my stints as Marceline (Adventure Time), Brooke Page (Ever After High), Ryuko Matoi (Kill la Kill), or Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles). Some of those adventures lasted longer than others, but that's pretty much everyone I've had rolling around in here over the years. I'm a librarian! I'm working on finishing grad school so I can have my Masters in Library Science, and it has been a struggle--school does not agree with me at all, but I need this degree. Anyway, I love my chosen career and I love my library and I'm always happy to talk books or give readers advisory/recommend books for you!! When I'm not doing school, work, or RP, I have an eclectic mess of hobbies. I'm AuDHD (Autism + ADHD) and that has a huge affect on my entire life, of course, but I'm also late-diagnosed so I'm still learning about what the diagnoses mean for me. ANYWAY I like to play casual video games, rewatch the same YouTube videos over and over, write for OCs, play D&D, Cosplay, and color/attempt artistic endeavors. I'm a Disney fan, and I love Disney movies, and I have a big special interest in Disney Park Attraction History--I've actually made a whole bunch of programs at my library a la Defunctland about 3 of the 4 WDW parks, and I'm currently working on making one about the hotels of WDW. If given half a chance I may accidentally talk your ear off about the vast amount of random facts I know. Sorry in advance. I can be found on twitter (@/wickedlysecret)! I'm USUALLY locked, but at the time of posting I'm not. If you find me locked, don't be afraid to request to follow, I'm happy to be moots with other Isolans!

CHARACTER SHEET REPOST, DON'T REBLOG!
Tumblr media
basics !
FULL NAME. Kratos Aurion TITLE. Knight Captain of Meltokio, Lord Kratos, Kratos the Hero, (According to the totLink game: Blademagic Master, Sword of Damnation, Lord of Blades, Mercenary of Time) NICKNAME. Kratti (Eiden) GENDER. Cis male PRONOUNS. He/him HEIGHT. 6'1 I think? AGE. Physically? 28. Actually? 4000+ ZODIAC. Sagittarius SPOKEN LANGUAGES. Common, Elvish, Dwarvish, Angelic
physical characteristics !
HAIR COLOR. Scarlet EYE COLOR. Scarlet SKIN TONE. On the pale side BODY TYPE. Slim, but fit. Apparently he has nice hips according to one of the mobile games and that haunts me VOICE. Stern and even DOMINANT HAND. Truly ambidextrous! He got bored being immortal and learned how to equally use both hands. POSTURE. Stiff. He never relaxes. SCARS. A large one on his back from when Yuan attacked him TATTOOS. None BIRTHMARKS. None MOST NOTICEABLE FEATURE(S). Other characters say that he's handsome, and that there's a kindness in his eyes.
childhood !
PLACE OF BIRTH. Meltokio, Capital of Tethe'alla HOMETOWN. Same SIBLINGS. None PARENTS. Deceased
adult life !
OCCUPATION. Currently teaches weapon-based combat skills as a tutor. Used to work in a flower shop and a pharmacy part-time CURRENT RESIDENCE. A cottage in the Mistwood. CLOSE FRIENDS. Aside from his son? Baizhu, Klaus, his students, Olga Marie... he kind of keeps to himself. RELATIONSHIP STATUS. Widower, only loved one other person besides his wife. He's not over any of them tbh. FINANCIAL STATUS. Comfortable, but he can't spend frivolously for very long at a time. DRIVER’S LICENSE. You need a license to drive? Damn CRIMINAL RECORD. Besides reckless child endangerment and literal millennia of war crimes? VICES. ...None! He needs some vices tbh
sex & romance !
SEXUAL ORIENTATION. Demisexual LOVE LANGUAGE. Doing favors, little gifts, quality time, Actually Relaxing RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES. Kratos is an attentive partner, and he allows himself to be more vulnerable around his partner. But aside from his relationship with Baizhu, Kratos isn't interested in romance, and doesn't initiate more, uh, intimate hobbies unless the other person does first.
miscellaneous !
CHARACTER’S THEME SONG. Kratos -- Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World OST (I prefer this rendition to the original ToS theme!) HOBBIES TO PASS TIME. Reading, playing that one video game until he 100%'s it, watching older movies, learning something or other. Recently, gardening and taking care of his chickens PHOBIAS. Not really a phobia in the true sense, but he avoids cliffs. SELF CONFIDENCE LEVEL. In his abilities? Solidly confident; there's not a lot he can't do. But he thinks that he's kind of personally inadequate as a person, a hero, and a father. VULNERABILITIES. He very much does not allow himself to forget that he's killed a lot of innocent people in the wars he's been a part of. He never got over his wife's death either, and still mourns her. He has a hard time allowing himself to be happy because of what horrible things he's done, and tends to think that the many kind deeds he's done since don't count. It's kind of sad. He hates tomatoes.

25. your character
Munday Topics
GOSH I could say a lot about Artair!! He was the first character I ever rped, and he's changed a lot over the years as he became my own more and more. But every way he has has changed has made him more intimate to me, more mine and more unabashedly my own creation. I love all my characters, but there's just something so special about him, the way he thinks is a mindset I can slip into so easily. I know so much about his life and so many major events and how they shaped him, and I've forgotten so many moments on the blogs he's been on. Near as many as I'm sure I remember lol.
I don't even really know how to talk more about him. There's so much I could say that feels like a stack of layers. He's reckless and impulsive and self-sacrificing and sees himself as this corrupted horrific thing undeserving of love, but he pours every drop of himself into others and loving them so deeply. He doesn't want to save himself but he wants his pain to mean something because he can hold more if it means someone else holds less. He's believes himself incapable of being anything other than broken and monstrous, but in the same breath he can see the good in even the darkest of muses and he will reach out his hand for them. For someone who has fallen into so much darkness, he has so much hope and love to share, and he is so freaking kind and silly and tries to make you laugh.
He knows what it's like to be hurt, and chooses every day to be the person he needed. Every day chooses to make someone else's better. the pain and the horrors and the damage too deep to ever undo keeps coming for him, true to at least several of his abilities embodying misfortune, pain, and The End of All Things. He's been taken apart, he's died more times than you can count on both hands in terrible ways, and keeps his own tally of failings or people he's harmed or feels responsible for the death of.
But he always chooses to persevere despite what comes. He fights to keep going, even in the worst situations. If someone else is there, he might do sacrificial, foolish things to save them, but it's because he LOVES them. He loves people, he loves them being happy, finding what makes them feel good and like a person. He loves seeing them grow and smile and flourish. He loves them. He loves them he loves them to pieces and he loves seeing them find love and joy in the world, and he will put himself on a pyre as a willing lamb of sacrifice to protect that.
I don't know, there's something so fascinating by how deep and how gentle and how kind someone who has suffered beyond words can be. So many fall apart, but he desperately crushes his pieces together just so he can give you the hug you need and be there for you with every fiber of his being. It doesn't matter to him if he's okay-- what does is if you are. He still is flawed, imperfect, but he's still doing his best. He's NOT okay, he's twisted up in so many ways, taking what is usually a positive trait and it sometimes being the fatal flaw for him. But he hasn't lost what makes him human.
He's deeply tragic, written though horror after horror in past rps and blog events and M!As and such, but he is still so full of compassion and affection and still fights to be there for everyone, and to bring everyone home to those they love. And I love him so so so much.

Hi! Love your sonia characterisation and from your ooc posting, I see your tastes are great~ Can I ask the mun: do you have any recommendations for books or TV series? c:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi anon! Thank you so much for your kind words regarding my IC content and OOC ramblings, that's really nice of you to say. I'm happy to recommend some things (I admit I did a 'Stitch laughing maniacally on a pile of wreckage' when I got this ask because anon, I am not sure you know what you have asked to unleash!).
However, I wasn't sure if you were asking for recommendations for books/TV series that have directly inspired my Sonia portrayal, or recommendations of things I enjoy in general. With that in mind, I'm going to be sharing a long list of books, TV series, manga/webtoons, and story-based video games that I just happen to like.
If you're looking for media that has directly inspired my portrayal though, please send another ask and I'd be happy to narrow it down for you!
In order not to keep the dash tidy, everything is under a cut, with notes (some important, some just me making jokes) beside a few of them. I hope you find a new favorite book/series to enjoy!
Books:
General Notes: For book series where the first book title isn't the series name, I've indicated which book to start with, save for the historical romances because that's easier to find online and there's a lot of them. I hope that helps! Additionally, for all romance series, assume that there is some mention of sexual content in various degrees of description, aka. "spice." Depending on your comfort level of literary sex, I highly recommend checking out each title on https://www.romance.io/ for their spice level rating, at the very least. The site will also show you tropes found in each book as well as reviews.
Contemporary Romance:
The Time-Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
American Royals series by Katharine McGee
Crazy Rich Asians series by Kevin Kwan (way, way better than the movie! It's a trilogy, followed by China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems. I'd highly recommend this if you are writing a modern wealthy character of East Asian descent. Yes it's romance, humor, and contemporary family drama, but it gives what's apparently a very accurate look at high society)
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade (if you are looking for contemporary romance with plus size heroines, you want to check out Olivia Dade! Also Mary Warren and for young adult romance, Kelsie Stelting)
Modern Royals series by Aven Ellis (start with A Royal Shade of Blue)
The Royal Runaway by Lindsay Emory
The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan (and its sequel, The Heir Affair)
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston (this was better than Red, White, and Royal Blue, IMO)
Fantasy Romance:
Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas
Crescent City series by Sarah J. Maas
A note about SJM series: I highly suggest reading TOG or ACOTAR first, with the understanding the first three or so TOG books and the first ACOTAR books have a slower pace and are more about worldbuilding than anything else. Read Crescent City after these two (CC 1 is also a big, long worldbuilding book). You must read ACOTAR to read CC, but you do not need to read TOG to read CC (though you'll miss some of the references/easter eggs!).
The Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros (Start with Fourth Wing)
The Shepherd King duology by Rachel Gillig (Start with One Dark Window)
The All-Souls Trilogy/series by Deborah Harkness (Start with A Discovery of Witches)
Historical Romance:
Don't Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma Alban
Love by Numbers series by Sarah MacLean (start with Nine Rules to Break While Romancing a Rake. If you finish this series and like her writing, move on to the Bareknuckle Bastards series and the Rules of Scoundrels series)
Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare (start with A Night to Surrender. If you liked this series, move on to the Castles Ever After series and the Girl Meets Duke series)
pretty much anything by Lisa Kleypas (Bridgerton fans? This is how you get over your hangover/wait between finishing the books and/or Season 3. start with the Wallflowers or the Hathaways series, then move onto the Ravenels and the Bow Street Runners series. This is mostly historically the chronological order with crossover characters between the Wallflowers and Hathaways. Bow Street Runners is chronologically before Wallflowers but it's disappointing if you read it first, trust me!)
everything by Jane Austen. Just everything.
Series/books I'm in the middle of/currently on my TBR list so I can't recommend them fully yet but I'm actively reading them:
The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black (start with The Cruel Prince)
Letters of Enchantment duology by Rebecca Ross (start with Divine Rivals)
Crowns of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent (Start with The Serpent and the Wings of Night)
Hades x Persephone saga by Scarlett St. Clair (Start with A Touch of Darkness)
The Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (and Six of Crows. And everything else: I've yet to dive into Bardugo's series)
A League of Extraordinary Women series by Evie Dunmore (Start with Bringing Down the Duke)
Royals series by Rachel Hawkins (start with Prince Charming)
Infamous by Lex Croucher
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
Deliciously Dark Fairytales series by K.F. Greene (Start with A Ruin of Roses)
TV series:
Downton Abbey (my love for this show runs deep. It changed my life!)
The Gilded Age (Carrie Coon deserves an Emmy for this at some point I s2g)
The Crown (Claire Foy is the best QEII, Elizabeth Debicki is the best Diana, Josh O'Connor is the best Charles)
Gossip Girl (original 2007 series, not the remake)
The Royals (the E! show)
Succession (Come for Brian Cox emotionally and verbally harass his children, stay for Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Matthew MacFayden, Conheads, and a Ludicrously Capacious Bag.)
The White Lotus (Tanya is ICONIC.)
Miss Scarlet and the Duke
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (If you like Miss Scarlet, I can almost guarantee you will like Miss Fisher. And vice-versa.)
All Creatures Great and Small (the remake)
Sanditon
Black Mirror
Skins (UK series only)
Sex Education
The IT Crowd (the creator is an ass. The show is eternal.)
The Great
The Sopranos
The Empress
The Fall of the House of Usher
Midnight Mass (arguably the best Flanagan series. Fight me.)
Marie Antoinette (2022 TV series)
Dickinson
Euphoria
Stranger Things
The Tudors
Versailles
Unforgotten
Endeavour (you don't need to have seen Inspector Morse beforehand but it helps contextualize where some of this cast ends up in the future! Endeavour is the best murder mystery show ever written, IMO. Unforgotten is a close contender for second place.)
Outlander
Sherlock
Mad Men
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
American Horror Story (earlier seasons are way better than the later ones)
Gentleman Jack
Ted Lasso
Emily in Paris
Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 miniseries with Colin Firth)
Books and TV (that is, read and watch both!):
Bridgerton (books by Julia Quinn)
Magpie Murders (books by Anthony Horowitz. One of my few book recs that isn't a romance! Horowitz is a wonderful contemporary mystery writer)
Webtoons/manga:
(Because some people prefer manga/webtoons to novels! I have read all of these on MangaKatana. Mostly fantasy romance and contemporary romance, several have been made into J or K-dramas)
Under The Oak Tree
See You In My 19th Life
What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?
Like Wind on a Dry Branch
Marriage of Convenience
Father, I Don't Want to Get Married!
We Are Not Ourselves Today
An Hour of Romance
Innocent (The sole historical drama over here. Every sex and violence trigger warning you can imagine applies to this manga. It is also one of the most beautifully-drawn and intriguing stories I've ever read. Rose of Versailles fans, this is for you: this is your fave but darker.)
Marry My Husband
Video games with excellent storytelling:
(mostly. These are primarily otome games, mystery visual novels, and horror visual novels):
Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (there are three games in this series: 999, Virtue's Last Reward, and Zero Time Dilemma)
AI: The Somnium Files (There are currently two games in this series, AITSF and AITSF: Nirvana Initiative. Zero Escape and Somnium Files are basically required to play after Danganronpa. I said what I said: the storytelling is better)
Code: Realize (The best storytelling of all otome games, hands down. Do not watch the anime: it sucks. The first game is the best and really the only one you need to play. The other two games have okay side stories and are mostly romantic continuations of the first game's routes)
Collar x Malice
Cupid Parasite (mostly for the last two routes, though: if you're using a walkthrough guide. Generally much lighter than your usual otome...save for the last two routes that serve to break you.)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (you could watch both seasons of the original anime if you really want to, but the games are better)
Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Note: please keep in mind this was written 10+ years ago in Japan, especially when you get to the Big Reveals in the final game. There are Some Takes that would go over poorly today. Like Code: Realize, do not watch the anime: IT SUCKS.)
Spirit Hunter: Death Mark
Spirit Hunter: NG (You don't technically have to play Death Mark first but it makes one of the endings far more impactful if you do!)
Honorable mentions:
Hakuoki (so many routes, so very long! But if you like Japanese history around this time, you may like this)
Olympia Soiree (good on the more mature content, bad on some of the LIs giving me pause like 'this is not a good romance idea')
Amnesia: Memories (I'm not a fan of the female main character or two of the LIs. At all.)
Piofiore (Similar complaints as Amnesia.)

Munday: I do like to guess near the end of the story that Destino swallows his pride and smugness for something selfless, and nothing will change that vision.
(I love when people make a prediction about what will happen! I'm looking forward to telling Destino's story as I have most of it planned out and sorted, including the final of the three arcs I'm hoping to do.
Definitely expect some character development from Destino but I'm not going to say what!
Thank you for the ask!)

[{ ☠ }] - "Evenin' folks. The name is Jim- er.. ah' mean, John, Marston. I might be lookin' like some average, dumb' ol' cowpoke. But be warned friend, I didn't get these scars on my face fer-nothin'."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, that guy. RDR's loveable honest, idiot, John Marston. After a past bad experience within the Persona community (This was a while ago now) I retreated to the RDR fandom as old wolf-scar Marston.
Honestly, I still do miss the muse, quite a bit. But my blog never picked up enough, and my muse kind of just left and never came back. He wasn't just some character I used as a rebound muse either. I loved John Marston, and still do. It's just hard to get back into his character, especially getting used to his mannerisms and speech again which was a bit of a chore since it was mostly old Wild West slang and figures of speech from that time period.
Many times, I've had to google a word for every reply just to make sure I was using the correct word and term lol
One of these days though, I would really love to revive him again. I enjoyed writing that loveable cowman. Hopefully, I can get back to him sooner rather than later.hxpl

I'm not sure that I have one in specific these days, a pet peeve.
But I have been stuck in awkward situations where a person assumed that I was mutuals with somebody that I'm not; it's a no-fault situation;;; I can't blame them for assuming, as it's somebody with the same tastes as mine! In some previous cases, I've interacted ooc but not IC. But sometimes I simply can't comment on or participate in some plots because they're not mine to have, and I've had to let them down gently. (mildly related, dash commentaries. I do try to find the 'source' so I know that my involvement is as appropriate as possible!)
There's a lot of mutuals I have that one may not know about as well! So I do think it's polite to ask, if you haven't seen them interact directly! My scope of vision is wide when I'm active, so I often know what's up, but I can't always talk to the peeps around me to the same extent, haha.
