He writes everything in a diary, every little detail because he knows a bit about internet safety from Hutch and he just knows that this precious data is far more protected in the front pocket of his vest, in a tiny and scrawny notebook. He saves every picture and prints it, just to see every tiny detail. Your favorite color, your favorite decorations. You like pink sanrio fluffy style of decor? He understands it a bit more, and he is happy to finally use his money for something nice and not just beer. Hey open question: is putting the image descriptions in plain text like this a good thing? I started doing this because when someone asked me for an image description I didn't really know what that meant, and in the tutorial I found by googling it, it said it was better not to use alt text. 15. The Icewing is a friend with whom I was playing the third Legend of Spyro game at the time. In that game, Spyro and Cynder are stuck together by a cursed snake necklace thing. I'm not sure I did a very good job drawing him but he seemed ok with it. One of my other friends told me "It looks like you are about to get thagomised", which was NOT my intention. Oh well. That game is not good at all btw, I can't really recommend it to anyone. It's too bad it's a terrible game, because I do like it. Just like, for the concept I guess, and the thought of what it could have been. But the execution is a total disaster.

How I printed DWM

just a warning, this is gonna be kinda long

Well, the first thing I did was transfer the fic itself onto an a5 word document! (a google doc would work as well; pretty much anything that you can write on that can be set to a5, or a custom paper size if you want)

Then after copy-pasting the entire fic, I set the margins to 20mm for the top and both sides, and 25mm on the bottom, then added a page number at the bottom using the add page numbers feature. (You can manually type them if you really want to, but DWM was 599 pages long soooo)

I used the font Garamond set on size 11.5, with the chapter headings being size 12 btw

Then I scrolled through the whole document to check for any spacing errors. I also moved the start of every chapter onto a new page (just pressed enter a bunch until it moved down onto a new page-)

After that, I found some art that I would like to use for the cover page, then put text onto that art using a website called Canva (I’m Australian, and this website may not be available to you. Some alternatives are: Procreate, Photoshop, Ibis Paint, or literally anything that you can use to add text on top of an image that can be set to a5, or your chosen page size; make sure that the covers are the same size as the actual pages with the writing on them)

Then I designed the covers, and put the fanfic description on the back to use as the blurb.

I downloaded the covers next and put them at the start and end of the word doc with the actual fanfic on it. Some printing companies may not want the covers as a part of the main document tho so keep that in mind.

Then I created the spine, but I had no idea of the width needed, since I didn't know how thick 599 pages would be. (The website/company I used to print it out automatically sized the spine to be the right width-)

I also wrote out a disclaimer for the publishing/copyright page, but it's not necessary at all, I just didn't exactly feel like getting sued.

Then after I finished allll of that, I found a website/company that would print it out for me, called ePrint Online, but thats an Australian website so it may not ship to where you are? I'm sure there are alternatives to the website in your country tho. (unless you're an Australian)

If you want to, you can print and bind the book yourself, but the spine may not be perfect.

TLDR; I copy pasted the fic onto an a5 word doc then designed covers then used a printing website to print it out :)

This is super late. I'm so sorry. I was thinking about Glorious Masquerade outfit ideas then I got this in my inbox. So, why not combine what I've been making and use it to answer this ask.

God, I wish I could draw better. Yana's intricate design for clothes makes me lose my sanity. Btw I only had the energy to make Minako's outfits. I hope these suffice.

Character theming is everything. Minako's colour motifs are black and white and the character she's twisted from is Mickey Mouse. That's what I have to work with. Also, medieval silhouettes aren't my favourite thing in the world, and it was actually pretty hard for me to find information of French fashion during the 1480s. I had to take inspirations from Renaissance fashion instead.

Looking at various references, wide v-necks paired with squared-collar kirtles underneath were quite popular with women in the 15th century.

Then for headdresses, I was introduced to the good, the bad, and the ugly. I thought about using an escoffion, a double-horned headwear, but it just didn't sit well with my vision:

I also thought about giving Minako a tiara, but I found that it wasn't extravagant enough to go with the outfits

I drew this headwear called a beaded snood because the other headwears were not great at displaying Minako's space buns in particular. Unfortunately, I scrapped the snood because it was way too complicated to draw again. The effort was not worth it.

I ended up liking the padded roll headdress and the hennin in the end. We'll get back to that later.

I experimented with the black-and-white colour scheme at first with outfits 1 and 2. Furthermore, I decided that the dress would look better with gold accents because too much black would make it look like a funeral attire and too much white would make it look like she was the bride of a wedding.

#1 has a fur lining and I just used transparent pngs from google images to make the patterns

#2 and #3 have puffed sleeves and patterns that I drew myself. The patterns were actually moderately easy to draw despite how complex it looks. I think the silhouettes look much better because of the puffed sleeves.

Overall, I prefer #2 and #3 more over #1.

For #2 I've decided to pair it with the padded roll (I think that's what it's called)

#3 is pretty much #2 recoloured to look like Mickey's wizard robes from Fantasia. (Is it just me, or does the gown look a little like the American flag. Red and blue are hard to pair together).

Personally, I don't enjoy dabbling with Mickey's robes as inspirations for Minako's outfits. I just don't vibe with them, but the Masquerade event gave me the perfect opportunity to try!

I've decided to pair the gown with this cone-shaped headdress is called a hennin. You've probably seen them worn by princess characters in children's media. I wanted to give the hennin a galaxy theme. I hope the stars and moon are visible enough on the veil.

Finally, I only want one mask, and it's this:

It will be coloured soon, I swear.

I at first wanted to go for a straight animal motif mask, but that wasn't working me.

So, we're down to two, and I think they turned out pretty great. I got rid of the pearls on the v-neck not because I forgot it after through copying and pasting the same position. Ha ha ha...

Personally, I like the black and white colour scheme more, but I'd like other people's thoughts too. What do you all think?

The Scholomance in Minecraft: Final Tour

The build is, for all intense and purposes, done. Now for the final tour.

Okay, let me be blunt, I can't post this here. That tour is 147 images long, not counting the one I'm reusing from the book. So I really insist if you want to see the whole thing, go visit the Imgur post. That said, I did figure out how to do something quite interesting, and I will be sharing it only here, along with some random thoughts and notes. So, who wants to see a map of the Scholomance in Minecraft?

The program is called Mineways, and it lets you extract the data from any Minecraft world, and do all sorts of things, like build import it to 3d modeling software, 3d print it, or just generate some maps. We'll start at the top and work our way down.

This view was almost standard for much of the build and still how I think of the school as a whole. I never removed much of the access stuff I used for building, so you'll see things like that inside the core throughout.

So the school is roughly 120 blocks tall, which puts it at about 40 stories tall. Minus the library and graduation hall, that means climbing from the Senior dorms to the library is climbing about the equivalent of 27 stories. The seniors had to have one hell of a work out just to get lunch, let alone the gym runs. The only thing holding them back from being full on Olympic athletes is the fact that they were malnourished!

I did some math at one point trying to figure out how many books the library could contain, and surprisingly they have figures for how many books fit in a cubic meter. My math (possibly wrong) came up with 116 million. Google claims there's only 156 million books total. Now this is possibly wrong (I may have messed up my math), but it's still crazy how big the library actually is. I still can't get over it honestly.

Maleficaria Studies got me wondering something: Who made the mural? The only ones who would ever see the Graduation Hall and it's inhabitants would be graduating seniors, and I doubt many took the time to sketch the scene. And even then, how did it get back into the school? And then up on the walls in a way that could be torn down and turned into wire? More than that, what was the original purpose? When they planned for it to be for 800 male enclavers, did they need it to be what it became? Or was it just an auditorium/theater and at one point they had bands or were performing Shakespeare or something?

Speaking of those early days, I think it's pretty clear there had to be some communication from outside the school to inside, if only to the artifice itself. After all, they had to have some way to tell the school to halve the room sizes so it could support more students.

BTW, while writing this, do you notice how there's a couple blanks spaces for the bathrooms along the bottom? Yeah, I missed two sets of bathrooms. I did go back and fill those in, I just didn't redo these maps.

Speaking of bathrooms, I decided to make the interior restrooms unisex while the dorm ones were gendered. Why? My theory is that because the dorms were designed to be re done on a regular basis it wasn't hard to fix but the interior ones couldn't be so easily changed, so instead of separating by gender, they just left them unisex as they couldn't do anything else. So why no urinals? After all it was originally an all boys school. Mostly it was easier to build, but also because I really couldn't find a ratio between urinals and toilets, and only got annoyed me when the one reference I found said that for all male locations there should be more toilets/urinals total than one for all female or even mixed populations. That might explain a lot if that's considered the standard in the building industry.

This image actually shows the grid and vent work in the alchemy labs as it's difficult to see when you're in the school. I really just wanted to point it out. I used this floor to figure out the numbering system for the rooms in the school. As shown here:

I did make an effort to stick to this map, but I'm sure I messed it up somewhere.

I have a theory on the construction of the school. We're told that the doors were meant to be the thing to get people to invest, in the larger project, but was it all in one go? I think maybe not. Sure the grad hall and gates came first, then they suggested maybe we could build another floor, and then another, and then why not just build the whole thing and before the enclaves knew what was happening they were building a world wonder. Feature creep at it's finest.

The vent work in the Workshop is almost impossible to see from inside the school. I managed to find one spot, right over the power hammer for the final tour post and it's only barely visible. Here though, you can see the whole thing. It's the grey line that runs through it.

The labyrinth isn't quite as wild as the images in the books displayed, in fact it's quite regular from this angle, but when you're inside, getting lost is probably the stupidly easiest thing that can happen. It was mostly intentional, of course, but I'm surprised how well it worked and how easily I got turned around.

I will also say I'm so happy with how the gym ultimately turned out. Oh it could be better, but the stark difference between it and the rest of the school is something I really wanted to make clear. Also if you look close to the edges of the gym and workshop, you can see the current and old shafts, I never did remove the old ones.

The Grad Hall has the most leftover bits in the school. The multiple extra shafts, the remains of the lines for the levels of the landing, and square base of the whole thing. I would love to say I left it as an easter egg or something, but really it was one part laziness and one part really freaking dark down there. If I couldn't see it and know it's there, no one else can see it at all.

Of all the parts of the school, we know both a lot about the Graduation Hall, and almost nothing. It's shape is only hinted at, the general arrangement (entry doors on one side, exit on the other) is vague, and we really don't know where the shafts come in at all. My original build actually had the shafts going up toward the middle of the school, making the whole thing quite narrow indeed, but this felt much more likely to be true. This version feels more right, even if it still remains a bit too small. But only a bit.

Innovative Journal Entry 2: Electric Boogaloo

So I made an app in MIT App Inventor.

It was extremely painful.

My original idea was to make an app with Hatsune Miku in it, and a button. When you press the button, Miku changes from a static image of her staring at you with big empty Vocaloid Eyes into a different static image of her giving you a thumbs up while playing an audio clip of her saying "You got this!"

But then I realized... well I found some silly Miku clips online... and I found this video and that this artist makes super cute animations in general... what if I do something poorly made and also dumb at the same time. And thus, Miku Therapy App was born!

First I tried to create lego block codes where pressing the button would randomly play sound clips, so I made 4 sounds and uploaded unique .mp3's to each one, and then tried to list them. And then it didn't work. And then I tried to do something similar with the gifs by uploading them to 4 unique images. Nada.

...then I realized I was stupid and had to actually test the app instead of pressing the button because apparently I thought you could test it on the website. So I downloaded MIT ai2 onto my phone and scanned the QR code to test it as an actual application, and I got so so excited because, surely, that was what I was doing wrong.

And then the gif wasn't playing and button mashing got me no Miku voice.

So I started googling "MIT app inventor press button play random audio" and "MIT app inventor randomizer" and "MIT app inventor press button show random image" etc. etc. until I found the MIT app inventor forums where people had mountains of code they already fine tuned to work, and I was able to find someone who figured out the random audio; turns out, you don't use the sound draggable on the MIT website, you use the Player. So, suddenly, when I scanned the QR code to test it on my phone I was getting beautiful Miku dialogue that I was desperate for.

But then I tried to figure out how to fix the gif, where after a few google searches I found a youtube tutorial uploaded by a girl (who I assume is 11???) which taught me that, no, gifs wouldn't work with the Image draggable but rather the goddamn WEB VIEWER with a url that leads to the FILE STORED LOCALLY ON MY LAPTOP. WHAT DO YOU M E A N????

it ended up working.

And I realized, "oh. I can just copy the randomized list of audio, replace the .mp3 file names with the .gif ones, and then hook that up the web viewer so I can get my random Miku gifs" That was the only lego block coding I was able to do on my own and have work the first time around. And its so pathetic but I was so incredibly happy that I finally got the result I wanted even though I just frankensteined my existing code together

Here's that code btw. For the amount of time I spent slamming my head into my desk from the failure, it is deceptively small, but my therapy bill is very big.

ok that ask you answered earlier about the toonkind dnd stuff sent me down a rabbit hole and I'm kind of obsessed with the rubber hose cartoon style right now haha. would you happen to have any recommendations for media or artists that use that style? 👀

So! The big ones to look at would be Fleischer studios and old Disney, where the style originated from (approximately 1930s).

Out of recent examples though, the best one to look at is probably Cuphead!

The bosses all have a nice variety of shapes and motifs- just to show that there's more than just the "Main Character Default Shape"

Another nice example of "modern" rubberhose is the mickey mouse shorts! You can find those on youtube.

Theres a guy on twitter who makes really neat rubberhose loop animations but i cannot for the life of me recall his url.

Honorable mention to Felix Colgrave who has some rubberhose inspiration in his art and animation!! I wouldn't call it straight up rubberhose but its still really neat. (go check out DOUBLE KING on youtube! warning for blood and violence and. general weirdness)

Now, about Jack:

I made pretty much the moment I heard abt toonkind, ahah. I've always found rubberhose to be really charming.

Jack is quite a bit more streamlined towards my own style- he's often got more somewhat more defined elbows and knees in the bent position and a more slim body than classic rubberhose. (not to mention I keep forgetting to give him pie-cut eyes). He lacks some of the roundness/squishyness that old rubberhose has, i think?

When designing him, I didn't really do a whooooole lotta active research on rubberhose. It was more like I picked up bits and pieces from media I'd seen before for him.

I'm not sure how to describe "using" the style- I guess the best advice i can think of is to think of is as a collection of simple shapes? A sphere on top of a cylinder with a bunch of tubes stuck to it for limbs.

I do find that posing is just as important as design though.

For that, animation and storyboarding tips are also really helpful to look at. Squash and Stretch being the biggest one I can think of rn. Even if you don't plan to do a Straight Up Animation I think it's pretty helpful to know for drawing action.

I'm the anon from earlier and while I do appreciate you answering you still left out the actual answer to the following question: do you ask the arists before reposting their art? Because even if you leave a link to the original art (which, btw, isn't proper crediting) you should never repost anyone's art without permission.

Your question left me with questions as to why reposting with links direct to the source and to the artists would be considered incorrect. I’m going to turn this into a training opportunity.

Many of us here are laymen when it comes to what could be considered good manners towards artists and their art. I believe most disapprove of plagiarism, and most believe in giving due credit to the artists. This is not necessarily the case across the board in other social media sites. I’ve personally witnessed how art went constantly uncredited in places like Facebook groups and some discord servers to give a few examples. So I decided to educate myself on the subject and found that they’re different opinions on what an artist would prefer when it comes to sharing their work, but pretty much all boils down to having basic courtesies with artists and their work.

On How To Deal With Online Art Theft, author, artist, and brand designer Nela Dunato describes a common scenario for artists:

“Problem 1: People who just want to share images they love, and they think they're doing you a favor

    This group people post your image without any bad intentions, but since they're not familiar with copyright law, they don't know they're doing anything wrong by posting your original image online without crediting you as original artist. Since original artist is unknown, the poster is unknowingly making it appear as if (s)he was the original author of the work. Most of the time things like this happen because the poster didn't even acquire the work from the original artist's web site, but some other channel (other people's blogs, Tumblr, Facebook...) where somebody else shared the image without credit.

    If you are doing this, I am asking you to please consider adding a clause under the image with the name and the URL of the original artist. These days it's not difficult to find the source of a particular image, since TinEye and Google Search by image have developed algorithms for image recognition.”

So in summary, all of this has been a learning experience for me, and from.now on, I will proceed with due diligence with the art I post. I' ve contacted some of the artists from whom I reposted works from, and responses can be summarized as that as long as credit had been included, it was fine but that asking first is always appreciated.

So to the anon, with this question I was given the opportunity to learn about a subject I didn't know that much since I fall into the group of people Nela Dunato described, well intentioned but without knowledge of copyright law. Keep in mind that I had the interest to educate myself because, like many others, I wasn’t aware of the fact that what I was doing could be something improper or even to the detriment of the artists. Perhaps in the future, an explanation on the “why” instead of just pointing the “what" might be even more helpful and effective in educating me and others on this and other subjects.

Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder rant

Seeing Natalie Portman returning to reprise her role as Jane Foster, nevertheless wielding Mjolnir, finally getting the treatment this character deserves, was surreal to say the least. I had just started reading Lords of Midgard, the 8th issue of Mighty Thor (2015 - 2018), and had fallen in love already. But I didn't suspect at all that Taika Waititi would pull this card in Thor: Love and Thunder, considering Jane was barely mentioned in Ragnarok. The news about my favorite actress portraying one of my favorite characters coming out of the blue - you can imagine the excitement. Alas, I quickly remembered what the fandom thought of that comic (at least on tumblr) and imagined it now growing tenfold, cuz not everyone in the MCU fandom reads comics but pretty much everyone wants to watch another Thor movie. And yes, many fans weren't ready for this step, still recovering from Sam Wilson getting the shield in Endgame. Which is completely fine. We're not obligated to like everything Marvel throws in our faces, we're allowed to criticize and express our opinion on the internet or wherever. What is not okay is mindlessly hating, and even worse - using false facts to support said opinion.

I have seen some people using the argument that it is one of Marvel's worst selling comics. Which has already been proven wrong by multiple sites, including Comichron, just Google it, as I did myself. I read multiple posts, ones saying how good Jane is doing as Thor in sales, others disproving this, so I checked for myself the numbers at the site mentioned above month by month to be sure. The comic truly had its downfalls as the story progressed but in my opinion it's normal for the 1st issue to have more sales than the 21st. If we compare it to Unworthy Thor, which started running a bit later and followed the now unworthy Odinson, the data shows the latter had more sales. But then again, while Might Thor was at its 17th issue, Unworthy Thor was at its 2nd. Also, they later crossed paths, shared comic issues, it's fair to say they go hand in hand and Jason Aaron, the author, probably doesn't want us to compare them, as they complete and compliment each other's stories. Still I decided to check the comic that made Thor unworthy in the first place - Thor: God of Thunder (2012 - 2014), which seemed to me more "comparable" to Might Thor (2015 - 2018). *I keep putting the years it was being released so as to not be confused with previous Mighty Thor issues, whole Odinson was still Thor, please bear with me* So yes, the numbers were pretty close, but from what I saw, Mighty Thor had the upper hand if we compare first issue to first issue and so on. (In defense of Odinson, we have to take into account that this data is only from the US and does not include digital sales. Also, he's been around since the 50s. We could argue Jane was a breath of fresh air that some Marvel fans were indeed ready for. As a non-American, and also a person without a hint of knowledge in economics I cannot take into account inflation and whatever else has prevented or enabled Americans to get their hands on the comics or has affected prizes through the years. Bear that in mind.) Moreover, from what I saw on Comichron, both comics had much competition - God of thunder was released along with Avengers vs the X-men, the Uncanny X-men, pretty popular at the time, and the Goddess of Thunder faced Civil War 2 and DC Universe Rebirth (yes, DC is in the game too), also dominating with tremendous sales for the longest time. Yet I stick with my original statement - both Thors are valid and shouldn't be put against one another regardless of profit. Because at the end of the day what will matter the most is the story. And boy, what a story it is.

Now, I haven't read the Thor: God of Thunder, but as I was doing research I found one very well written summary and explanation of Thor's arc and his becoming unworthy and I will post a link below, because I honestly feel I wouldn't be doing this comic a favor by describing it without having read it. Which I plan to do in the future, tbh. It's a fantastic prelude to the Mighty Thor (2015 - 2018) that I've come to love. First, I'd like to ask you all to stop hating on the comic without having read it first. It doesn't make any sense and being petty for the sake of being petty won't benefit neither you, nor anyone, really. Now, about the comic itself - the art is magnificent. It's just gorgeous. Mighty Thor isn't , thank all the gods, sexualized, she is pretty buffed and generally looks like a warrior. As it is with the other characters, I dare say. The background truly captures the essence of every world Jane finds herself on. Action scenes are just the right amount and balanced with dialogue well. On a side note, it's pretty funny to read/listen to in your head the Shakespearean English cursive in which Jane talks as Thor. The plot line branches beyond this comic, starting from Thor: God of Thunder and leading to the War of Realms. And it is elaborately built in every issue. You don't know what to expect, yet it makes sense when it happens. Which leads me to the characterizations. My God, what a treat Loki is in this. Clearly, my opinion is kinda biased, since he's my favorite character, but you never know which side he's on. What his motivations are. And it just feels so... Loki. His writing is brilliant. Almost makes me forget what the MCU did to him. Also, he gets some daddy time with Laufey (not as kinky as I make it sound). Frigga/Freyja is just as awesome as in the MCU, even more, at least in the comics she calls Odin out on his shit, who btw is I guess an asshole in every version and universe. Malekith, the main villain, is unbearably despicable, I want to tear every page he is on. He really was mishandled in the Dark World, if you want some true action with the dark elves, you are welcome to enjoy. I saved the best for the end - Jane Foster/ Might Thor. Now, if you think Dr. Foster spends her time boasting about her worthiness and how Odinson is just called Thor, but she is Mighty Thor, you are horribly wrong. She just... does her job. Because the hammer chose her. Because there's no one else to do so. That's it. If you think there's some feminism involved, yes, there sure is, but it certainly isn't the reason Jane became Thor in the first place. It was not the creators going SJW because it's trendy, as such a mindset is honestly offensive to any descent creator with any self respect, but a well thought out story arc, which, I repeat, you have to read the comic to understand. Jane is not at all whiny about the hate she gets in-universe, not only from foes like Odin and who-not, but from Shield and generally people whose asses she's saving. Her having cancer is not something they pulled to provoke sympathy and make her look like a victim - on the contrary, she is a damn hero and a victor. I don't want to give out spoilers, but her being Thor is actually a giant sacrifice that no one really appreciates (both in-universe and in the fandom). She is not Thor to prove she can be, or just to prove "women can be heroes" - she doesn't have to. She is simply needed by the realms and so she does her job, even though she is called a thief, persecuted and generally hated. All that matters is that the hammer finds her worthy - the beauty and simplicity of that fact you will find out, for the last time, if you read the comic.

I'm not making you read the comic or watch Thor: Love and Thunder. I myself don't know what to make of this film yet because there's barely any information about it. I only know it will be based on the comic so that's a reason for my hopes to be up already. On the other hand, since I didn't like Loki's characterization in Ragnarok, I'm not sure what to expect from Taika. There are valid reasons to not like the idea of Jane returning to the MCU as Thor, which you are entitled to. However, reasons such as "why does everything have to be political these days" are not. Because if I had to make a list of everything politically related in the MCU, it would take forever. Steve Rogers kills nazis is the most blatant example. Make of it what you want. But I think we're far enough into the 21st century to realize art and real life are not that separable. It's undeniable that art affects people and that is to say, people everywhere. And they all have different opinions and aren't gonna like everything media is offering to them. And I wish I could simply tell you not to watch the movie but I'm a Marvel fan too and I understand that I can't just take away Thor from you because I want Mighty Thor as well. But none of us can stop Marvel from producing it. So, to quote an image I saw recently, I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people. Let the rest of the fandom enjoy what they want to enjoy. Yes, ik I can play around with the tags and avoid posts that unnerve me but, for example, I'm looking up Mighty Thor fanart, which obviously isn't anti-Mighty Thor, yet I get attacked in the comics for anticipating a movie that doesn't even have a full cast yet. Ik I'm not asking for too much when I wish to get the same internet experience (not only tumblr, but also insta, YouTube, Twitter, any site) as the Thor Odison fans, for example. I'm aware I cannot stop all the toxic fans and the trolls but I hope this post has inspired those of you who simply can't envision Jane as Thor, or don't like Natalie Portman in the role, or whatever eles personal preference that doesn't involve political issues and isn't harmful to the community, not to attack every post on your dash with hate. The movie is called LOVE and Thunder, for God's sake. (on a side note, is a franchise that is too afraid to show LGBT characters for more than 1 minute so as to not lose profit from China, THAT politically correct)

Anyway, that was a veeeery long rant, sorry to whoever reads this but, like, please, I put effort into this, hoping this time around I won't be the only positive reviewer of a movie, like I was with Solo: a Star Wars story (yes, I'm still bitter about this), which was boycotted for no apparent reason but was a decent film in reality, and I'm only bringing it up because it has a similar experience to Love and Thunder for getting hate before even being released. I'm not defending a billion dollar company that flopped in box office once, I'm defending the viewer's right to media they are interested in. If you don't like the character, remember - that's your opinion, not a fact that the character sucks. Kudos.

Since it’s the last one, may I ask about Inheritance?

You absolutely may!

So, Inheritance is a bit different from my other wips in that it has an ending. That's already written. But I don't want to call it finished because I keep finding things to edit, so I'm still working on it.

It's also the longest one-shot I've ever written, at 81 pages in google docs and (checks it for the current number) 44 065 words. (For reference, it was 44 006 words when I first 'finished' it.)

It's an Ace Attorney fic, with the premise being another thought of mine that can be summed up as 'nothing says it's not true'. Basically I found out about The Great Ace Attorney games with Phoenix's ancestor, and how at one point said ancestor ended up with a sword. I learned a few more things about this sword, Karuma, and promptly considered to myself, 'What are the chances that Phoenix would inherit that sword?' (Disclaimer, I know there's more to the sword and who owns it and blah blah blah, but work with me here, okay? The chances are not zero, that's what's important to me.) And I decided Phoenix inheriting any sword would be interesting, but because of some other details about Karuma Phoenix inheriting That Sword Specifically could result in some very interesting ideas.

So I wrote a whole fic with the premise of Phoenix inheriting Karuma. I didn't have a plan beyond that in the beginning, but it turned into a bit of a character study focused on Phoenix's relationship with Karuma over the course of the main six games. (Full disclosure: I wrote this only after getting to the end of aa2, so while I now have all six games I didn't when writing, so if I get anything wrong past that point, this is why. I'm not changing it though, I'm already doing enough editing as is.)

Amusingly we reach the end of the main games about halfway through the fic, because I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get Phoenix and Edgeworth in a relationship by the end of the it. This was not helped by Phoenix living in denial and Edgeworth being awkward. I live blogged writing this fic on discord and towards the end it's just me going "Why is it so hard for me to give you a boyfriend?????" (Honestly all of my live blogging is kinda funny, and I'd be happy to share highlights if anyone cares.)

And funny enough I've already taken some screenshots of snippets, but almost all of them are just me sharing funny moments and stupid dialogue from the character who ended up being my favorite in this fic, and who's also an OC.

So, part of this fic involved inheritance, so I had to invent a family for Phoenix. One of these family members is his first cousin on his mother's side, Kole Naruhodo. I would happily infodump about Kole given half a chance, btw. I love this man so much. He wasn't even supposed to have a name, and yet...

Anyways, Kole's main purpose in the fic is to give Phoenix a support system he doesn't feel guilty about leaning on (since, well, his support system otherwise consists of Maya, a teenager, Pearl, who is eight, Mia, who is dead, and Edgeworth, and I'm not even going to touch on that mess of feelings here. There are more people later too, I'm aware, but my point about the guilt still stands), and to have someone around in the moments Phoenix otherwise would have no one around to give him a hand. He's also here to make bad jokes. I love him so very much. I'm so attached to him.

Also, there's a whole section I had to cut because it ended up conflicting with canon too much, which wasn't the point of this fic, but it was fun enough I still decided to finish it if anyone is interested. It features a peak sibling moment with Phoenix and Maya.

Gods, there's so much in this fic, I'm going to his the image limit and still have more I'd be willing to share. I'm going to start with what I already have, and then go from there. Fair warning, unlike the other fics I've talked about, these snippets will not be in chronological order. They will be in order of how I found them on discord.

The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home Book Review

The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home is a genre-less book. Well I guess you could classify it as fantasy, but that category is so broad it doesn't really tell you anything about the book. I would describe it as a mix of period, mystery, thriller, swashbuckling, and heist genre. (I don't know if heist is considered a genre, but I think it should be).

If you didn't already know from the title of the book, this is a Welcome to Night Vale novel. I was originally skeptical about a novel based on a podcast, but I really enjoyed it. You get to learn more about the backstory of the Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home, although she didn't start out that way.

The book jumps from modern day Night Vale to Europe in ages past (starting in 1792), really well and it isn't flashback-y. I also like that the authors created some fun fake middle European countries. Luftnarp, Svitz and Franchia all feature parts of the historical part of the story, as does Paris and an unnamed country bordering the Mediterranean. It is a good balance of period fiction and characters that appeal to a modern audience.

I don't want to spoil the book, but I Iove the cast of characters. I'm just gonna list their names, Lora, Edmund, André, Rebekah, Albert, and Vlad. I also like that I was able to read through the whole book without questioning why the Faceless Old Woman is never referred to by first name. I also liked that André was ace and/or aro (this was historical-ish, so he never used the terms asexual or aromantic). They easily could have written him as a seductive D&D bard type character (Idk what else to call that type of character), but they didn't and I respect that. My personal favourite was Rebekah, but you will just have to read the book to find out why ;).

You don't have to know anything about Welcome to Night Vale to enjoy this book, but there are things Night Vale fans will enjoy. It gives a lot of backstory information about The Faceless Old Woman and it helps explain her motives to some extent. It also gives a little history (but only a little) for the man who is not short and the man who is not tall. There are lots of Easter Eggs for the podcast too, my favourite one is when the Faceless Old Woman sees tapestry with a dragon and thinks "Everyone knows a dragon would make a terrible leader. Their five heads can never agree on anything." It also doesn't spoil anything for the podcast which is nice (I'm on episode 54 btw).

I would definitely recommend this book to you, but I will warn you, there isn't a happy ending. (But you should still read it anyway)

i just had a few more questions about edits and stuff hope you don't mind. (btw the tutorial thing you did was really helpful and easy to understand.) what are the dimensions for all the different edits you do (especially the ones you used for the url aesthetics)? how do you find sources for images and find hq ones? do you just do a google search for the image or what? and what are alternates? you used that word in the tutorial and i didn't know what it was. thank you!

no problem at all! and i’m glad omg, i’m forever rambly and can never keep things short and omg i’ve done it again this is so wordy but i hope it helps! i’m always happy to answer questions about photoshop, even if i’m def no expert! i still flail about, you just have to experiment and there’s lots of tutorials on tumblr! 

for my grid edits i worked with 200x200pxls, aesthetic edits i did two sets of 540x450pxls which were made up of 270x150pxl images, and for the poster edits i did 270x420pxls. but with all of these you can fiddle around with the heights to see what looks best in your opinion! just keep the widths the same. here is a post with all the image sizes!!

if the image isn’t sourced properly from the website you found it from the only way i’ve found so far to find the source is to google search it? (plz anyone reply with better ways if you have them!!) but i’ve never not been able to find the original image on ones i’ve used so far, so i think it works pretty well (you might have to dig through the links google shows ya sometimes). just keep an eye out for pixels and blur, the more you work with images and and editing the colours using psds or adjustment layers it’ll become easier to spot what images are crisper than others! also if you’re using photoshop (and maybe online editors but i’ve never tried any?) you can add sharpen images, too! but lower quality images often looks awful sharpened! if you just tumblr search ‘sharpen action/psd’ there’s lots avaliable! 

when i used ‘alternates’ i just meant every second image if that makes sense? so like, i see it as each aesthetic is kinda made up of 6 lines of 2 images (broken up into 2 final canvases) and i meant that i think it looks good when you pick a colour and so end up with 6 images with that colour (item of clothing, the background, etc) and then the other 6 be minimal, dark or light. then each “line” will have one with that colour and one with minimal or whatever you go for. i hope that makes sense? this edit! i hope will help?  or even this one where i kinda did it more subtly. but i wouldn’t follow this strictly or anything! i just use it as a place to start when i’m collecting images and laying them out, but always mix them around and try different layouts - whatever works just works sometimes!!
