Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore (2024)

one day in 2007, while curious about the horrible zelda cd-i games, i searched for them on youtube and found a bunch of strange videos that for some reason, had me in tears laughing. this was my introduction to the world of youtube poops, and i couldnt get enough of them. watching them made me even more curious about these games though... what were they like to play?

in a word: BAD. these games are trainwrecks through and through, that are only salvageable though the unintentionally funny cutscenes. the worst part is, if these games had actual time and effort put into them, they COULD'VE been pretty good. they're basically spiritual successors to zelda 2, a game that, while flawed, i thought was pretty cool and interesting. a side scrolling action rpg/platformer in the usual zelda formula? i wonder why they never attempted anything like it again, even with the dozens of zelda spinoffs there are now...

and that leads us to this: an indie platformer/metroidvania deliberately trying to be like the zelda cd-i games, but, you know... actually good this time. did it succeed? hell yeah it did.

if anything, i'd compare this game more to monster world 4 or popful mail, mixed with a zelda or metroid game. you go along levels, helping unhinged NPCs and collecting various items that'll help you, like being able to double jump, shield yourself from projectiles, and even a fucking gun. once you find the right item for the job, you often have to go back to previously played levels to find places to use them.

they make this a bit less like a guessing game, as often an "!" will appear over a level in the world map if theres something new you can do there, but there is a bit of a problem; every time you go back to a level, you have to start from the beginning. there's no warp points where you can just go to the middle or the end; you HAVE to play through the whole level again. if your prudent about collecting items, this doesn't usually become a problem, but in my case during a later stage, i needed 3 sacred candles to open a boss gate, and only had 2. so i had to leave the level, find one more candle in another area, and then go ALL the way back through the level just to open that gate. it's a hard level too, so it took me a while to get where i was. stuff like that aside, the game is pretty solid and is proof that the zelda cd-i games could've actually been fun in more capable hands.

aesthetically, the music is also very good; emulating the kind of stuff you'd hear in 80's/early 90's cd games. i definitely got Ys vibes from some of the tracks, which is obviously a good thing. the cutscenes are deliberately deranged and uncomfortable, with wildly inconsistent art styles. there was one cutscene where it was blatantly rotoscoped and everyone animated really bizarrely and it really got under my skin. it's perfect.

the characters you meet are also very funny; there's a frog voiced by vinny vinesauce who wants "FINE DINING", and by that he means flies dipped in gold. the first boss is a horse who can't stop accidentally making horse puns, much to his dismay. there's a really fast little character who gives you shoes that increase your movement speed, saying "GOTTA GO FAST!" and then runs so fast he accidentally opens a portal to the ninth dimension and gets sucked inside. most of all though, there's a buff moose who forges you the ultimate weapon, but not before doing this game's version of the sideshow bob rake scene and hammers away on an anvil for nearly a whole entire minute before the sword is finished as arzette is bored out of her mind. to really hammer it in (hehe :3), this is the only cutscene in the game you can't skip. it's all really funny and worth playing just for these wacky cutscenes.

one thing i didn't expect was for the game to eventually have a bit more down to earth, serious narrative, complete with a character death that caught me by surprise. a theme of the game is to break the traditions we've known for ages and try to find newer, better ways to do things; don't just throw a book (that's made to orrrrderrrrr) at the evil bad guy and call it a day, cuz someday, he's just gonna escape and come back again. what if you found a way to vanquish the ultimate evil for GOOD? the ending was surprisingly sentimental for a wacky cd-i youtube poop game. one cutscene showing the defeat of a particularly irredeemably evil boss was also pretty cathartic; i'll let you watch that for yourself.

in short, this is a short but sweet little platformer that pays homage to a pair of the worst games ever made, but actually does things right this time. it's a parody of bad cd-i games sure, but in a way it also feels sincere, like an actual tribute to games that are so awful they're amazing. i'm very much excited at the prospect of a potential sequel, cuz this game was great and could be even better with some improvments, and i wanna see more of these characters and their unhinged shenanigans again. needless to say, dopply... YOU WON!

Latest thing i baked was mango cake! I used the recipe from natasha's kitchen (looooove her recipes! Always a win in my book!) but used sliced mangoes instead of pureed. Also found that the cake tastes better 2-3 days after it's made bec the frosting and mango juice sink into the layers and make them super moist and smelling of mango! 😚

Also have been reading bec i buckled up and finally set a 12-book reading goal for this year on goodreads. So far i think im doing pretty well! 7 books read and it's july 😁

as for a recc, i absolutely recommend donna tartt's a secret history:

You may have seen me post about this book before. I read it months ago and still find myself thinking about it! Plot-wise it's okay imo but the *aesthetic* siiiiisssss makes me want to import the atmosphere and the vibe into daily life 😭 the language is pretty easy to get sucked into, too. I told myself i'll just skim the beginning to get a feel for it and the next i knew i couldn't put it down! I lugged it everywhere that my copy got into a tiny accident of the damp sort 😅 that goes to show how much i couldnt part from it!

Alright! This took me a while because I couldnt find anything that really spoke to me so I had to draw it out real quick!

Picture it: There I am, at a slightly themed 1920s gothic dinner that involves ballroom dancing (I'm a slut for the waltz), candlelight, chandeliers, large bouquets of flowers and foliage, people aren't on their phones and taking pictures at all save for the paid photographers running around. My date, you ask? Tom Hiddleston. He'd appreciate the aesthetics, the vibe, and he's tall and slender and not too bad on the eyes.

Tom is wearing a sleek 3 piece suit, ink black and sophisticated with very small sparkles dusted across the jacket— very small and very spread out. He carries a dapper cane with a gold handle. Think this, but deeeeeeep daaaark black.

And me? The main attraction? A sleek, slinky, deeeeep daaaaark, clingy black dress with fabric that pools at my feet. Think Morticia Addams. Little tiny sparkles scattered across the entirety of the dress.

Hi, I didn't really know who to reach out for this question, but do you have any tips on how to find your own unique fashion style? I'm not really looking to hop on popular clothing trends on social media e.g. eboy/girl or cottagecore, so I'm not exactly sure where to start! I come to consult you because I've seen some of your posts and you look very well versed in fashion and you seem to know your own personal style. My wardrobe is very outdated and I would like to update it to reflect the truest expression of myself. Thank you 😊 You don't have to answer this if you don't feel like doing so btw 😅

EEEE more fashion asks i love these thank you!!!! warning this got a lil (very) long so its under the cut :^)

so first and foremost the most important part about curating your own style is to learn more about your body and what flatters/doesnt flatter it. it's learning some basic fashion 'rules' pertaining to proportions, cuts, etc. there are plenty of resources on this if you dont know where to start (kibbe body test, video, video) but keep in mind this step has nothing to do with your weight!!!! i could talk wayyy more about this but at the end of the day, some clothing is just more flattering for specific body shapes - that doesnt mean you cant wear something that isnt perfectly flattering, but knowing your body and knowing what flatters it will make you understand your own style and help guide the pieces you buy. fashion 'rules' arent necessarily meant to be followed, but just understood so that 'breaking' them is a conscious choice. (it also really helped with my insecurities???? like this step is basically recognizing that its not your body thats unflattering, its the clothing, if that makes sense???)

also remember that every 'style' works for every body type. i.e if you want to be a 60s vibe but youre too curvy for shift dresses, there are plenty of clothes in a similar style that would look great on you <3 basically, if you dont like the way a piece looks on you, you can still achieve the same vibe with a different article of clothing thats more flattering. but also umm.... you can just wear the unflattering thing if you want LOL if it makes you happy... then it becomes your own controlled decision <3 live love laugh follow your heart

okay. now that you have that out of the way. there are a million ways to develop a sense of style, and no particular order in which i recommend them. what i love doing is creating pinterest boards for the spring/summer or fall/winter seasons and just filling them with pieces i would wear in a perfect world. i dont mean like cottagecore aesthetic boards, just boards full of runway looks and clothing pngs that i like. i also love making little outfits for characters which can influence my own style. everyone thinks of their style differently; i think of my own outfits as little vignettes with narratives behind them, but other people are more concerned with just wearing things they think are pretty, other people view it as an expression of art or their identity, and other people just want to feel comfortable!!! its all up to you and what youre drawn to!!

one thing that tan france mentioned once was to go online window shopping by going onto the website for a brand you like (regardless of whether its affordable or realistic!) and just adding things to your cart that youre interested in. dont worry about how expensive they are or anything, and when youre done, remove all the items you like the least. and then keep reviewing and removing until you have just a handful of really nice items you really like, and keep doing this with other brands until you can identify common threads between the pieces you like. you dont have to buy them!! in fact maybe its better if you dont!!! and the websites dont have to be like zara or h&m ... go on balmain or chanel if you want, play pretend and have fun!!

re: the last bullet point, i think a big turn off for people in terms of fashion is the idea that you need to wear something palatable and 'appropriate.' its like looking at a runway and thinking "its nice, but i would never wear that in real life." but honestly????? in a perfect world i would be wearing full gowns to the supermarket!!!! if your ideal style is imaginative but unattainable, your style in practice will be a microcosm of it. basically... dream big... dont be afraid to 'overdress' if its what you like!! one of the best pieces of advice i ever got was from my aunt, who offered to by me a plastic tiara. i asked her when i was ever going to wear it irl, and she just looked at me and said "??? you can wear it whenever you want to!!" so true!!! wear a tutu to mcdonalds. wear a bedazzled tux to prom. who cares

accessories, nail polish, hair, jewelry, perfume and makeup goes a long way in developing style. i dont wear a ton of makeup, but just putting some color on my cheeks achieves a kind of sunkissed lovestruck vibe that i strive for. i paint my nails red because i think its chic or bright colors so they contrast with a toned down outfit. even wearing no accessories is an accessory in itself. accessorizing (or specifically not accessorizing) is like adding texture to an outfit imo

anything that advises you about 'absolutely necessary essentials everyone needs' is entirely wrong. there is no one size fits all; i.e everyone says you need one good pair of denim jeans, but i havent worn jeans in two years!!! an essential for ME is a pair of neutral wool shorts, but an essential for another person could be a thick knit sweater or for another person, a flannel. the idea that everyone needs a 'little black dress' or a 'basic white t shirt' is preposterous. YOUR essentials depend entirely on YOUR style. a pair of denim jeans is useless if you hate wearing jeans!!!!

as for my personal style, im mostly influenced by movies, books, songs, characters, feelings, colors, high fashion, and costumes. ultimately, you should worry less about what you want to be and worry more about what you already like. every piece i have kind of plays into some narrative ive constructed, or otherwise theyre all special to me :) if you want to update your wardrobe, dont feel the need to over consume fast fashion (or any fashion for that matter) to do so. if you take it slow and buy pieces you really love, every item will have a story and you'll begin to develop a more stable internal style and they'll last longer :)

Road Trip (JJ Maybank X Reader)

  so this was requested a while ago by @afterglows7b-tch13​.I started it and its just been vibing in my google docs ever since so I decided to publish it.If you guys like it I might make a part two :)

All you wanted was to have a nice,relaxing sunday morning.But of course there was never a dull or relaxing moment in your life.You had been trying to have an aesthetically pleasing morning as you sipped your coffee by your window as the sunlight peaked through the blinds.But then JJ walked in.You could tell by the big grin on his face and the backpack hanging from his shoulders that he wanted to do something stupid.He frowned once he saw you enjoying your morning. “I wanted to wake you up.”He sounded disappointed as he placed his cheap speaker down on the counter.

You sighed,sipping your coffee. “What do you want,J?Its seven in the morning.”You grumbled.He giggled,jumping up and down. “Ok,ok,ok.So you know how you’ve always wanted to go to the White Mountains?”He asked.You shook your head. “No,I dont think i’ve ever said that.”You replied.He sighed,scratching the back of his head. “Ok,well I’ve always wanted to go and then I realized we have literally nothing to do ever so why dont we go to the mainland and take my cousin’s truck and drive to New Hampshire?”He explained his idea.You looked up at him. 

“Baby,as much as id love to,we cant go to the White Mountains.”You watched as his smile faltered. “Why?”He asked,squatting on the ground in front of you.You ran your fingers through his hair. “How are we gonna get to the mainland?”You asked.He leaned his elbows on your knees,gazing up at you. “A ferry.”He answered.You looked around your messy kitchen. “Right now?”You asked.He hummed,arms going around your waist.You couldnt say no to him.

You huffed,slowly standing up.He stood up as well,looking at you and waiting for you to say something. “Okay.Alright.Let me shower and get my shit together.”You kissed him quickly before heading to your bathroom.He made it his job to go into your bedroom and into your dresser.He knew where you kept all of your things by now.He couldnt help staring at your bed and smirking at all the memories.He remembered all the way back to the first time he had fucked you on your bed.It had been after he had walked you home.

He remembered asking if your parents were home and you had simply laughed and reminded him that your parents were dead.He had been embarrassed of course but it didnt matter when his head was between your thighs and your fingers tugged at his hair.He heard your shower turn on,snapping him back into reality.He grabbed a few of your bras and panties before putting them at the bottom of your bag as neatly as possible.He grabbed eight of your crop tops,a few normal t shirts and a baggy long sleeve.

He went into your pants drawer to grab you a few pairs of shorts,a pair of jeans and socks.He forced the bag to zip shut,opening the next pocket.He thought about things you might need.He reached under your bed to grab you a handful of pads and tampons,pushing in a bottle of ibuprofen.He sat down on the bed,waiting for you to get out of the shower.He had told the others already that you two would be gone for a while and hadnt even bothered telling his dad.You walked into your room,your wet hair in a bun and a towel wrapped around your body.He watched as the towel dropped and you opened your dresser,eyebrows furrowing at your lack of clothes. 

“I packed your bag,baby.”He grinned.You nodded,grabbing one of the two bras left.You settled on a sportsbra,pulling it over your head and down your chest. “Stop staring at my ass,J.”You grinned as you picked a pair of boyshort undies.He sighed,still looking. “Its right there though.”He frowned as you pulled the underwear up your legs.You smirked at him,straddling him on the bed and placing a kiss on his lips. “Do we have time?”You asked,kissing his neck gently.A shiver went up his spine,his hands going straight to your butt.

 “Im sure if we’re fast enough….”He let out a small moan as you bit his tan skin.You smirked,kissing his lips. “You know,I just showered so probably not the best time.”You grinned before getting off of him and grabbing an oversized shirt.You slipped on a pair of joggers,tying the shirt into a knot at your waist.You looked like a hippie but you didnt care,you were comfy as hell.You grabbed the bag that JJ had packed,swinging it over your shoulder. 

“bras,panties,socks,pants,bikinis,shorts,pajamas,pads,tampons,ibuprofen.Did I get everything?”He asked.You shrugged. “We’ll find out.”You smiled up at him.You two began the walk to the docks.He had left his packed duffel bag on your steps and had it swung over his shoulder,holding your hand as the two of you walked. “Ive got $400 to last us.”He informed you. “I’ve got my $100 for emergencies.”You kissed his cheek.

The ride on the ferry wasnt payed for,you two had just snuck on with the others.JJ’s cousin’s house was only a mile walk from the docks. “I cannot believe I agreed to this.”You giggled.He wrapped his arm around your waist,kissing your forehead. “Well believe it because its too late to turn back now.”He smiled.His cousins house was exactly how you imagined.

Small but much cleaner than anything in The Cut.He told you that he already knew you two were coming.You two went up to the door,JJ swung it open without even knocking and the fumes of weed immediately filled your senses. “HEY BITCH!”JJ shouted.Another voice shouted back before a tall boy with brown hair came into view,a blunt hanging from his mouth as he fist bumped JJ.

 “Hey,hoe.”He nodded towards JJ,glancing over at you. “This is her?”The boy asked.JJ nodded. “Leo this is (Y/N),(Y/N),Leo.”He introduced you two.Leo laughed loudly,holding out his fist and looking you up and down. “You know,he told me you were hot but I didnt believe him!I mean seriously though,have you seen him?You’re like wayyy out of his league.”JJ smacked Leo’s arm jokingly.

You just grinned,hands in your pockets. “You and me though,we could work.You know where I am.”Leo winked.God,he was so much like JJ.He tossed JJ the keys to the truck that was parked outside along with a tin,waving bye to you guys.You two tossed your bags in the back seat,seeing the stacks of blankets and pillows ready for you two.You got into the passengers seat,JJ’s hand resting on your thigh after he began driving. “You hungry?”He asked,pulling up to a McDonalds drive thru.

You got icecream and fries as well as a burger,sitting in the parking lot to eat. “Hey,hey (Y/N).”JJ turned to look at you.You raised your eyebrows as you put a fry in your mouth. “Hey,hey JJ.”You mimicked,making him roll his eyes. “Are you stressed?About the car ride,I mean.”He sipped his cola.You shrugged. “I dont know,dude.The Mountains are far away I just like...dont want you to fall asleep driving.”You answered.He nodded,his hand squeezing your thigh reassuringly.

You went through Leo’s CD’s,pleased to find Panic At The Disco Too Weird To Live,Too rare to die.You played it,leaning back in your seat as JJ drove.The area was unfamiliar and he seemed to just be driving in whatever direction his heart was telling him to.You didnt care though,you just enjoyed having some time alone with him.You ended up stopping at a large gas station to get snacks.Oreos,a jar of nutella,brownies,chips,iced coffee,gum and energy drinks was what you ended up getting. 

“This is fucking insane.I dont even know where we are right now.”JJ admitted,laughing.You took a sip of iced coffee with a smile on your face. “I’ve literally never left the island so like,you know,im lowkey freaking out.”You giggled.He nodded in agreement,looking at every house you passed by.There were large and small houses next to eachother,high end stores next to shitty looking bakeries.It was nothing like OBX. “Everywhere else has middle class families,cant relate.”He chuckled,pointing out to the medium sized houses with three cars in the driveway.

Thats the last thing you heard from him before you fell asleep.When you woke up it was dark out and the truck was coming to a stop. “Rise and shine,princess.”He smiled.You rested your head against your hand,looking at your surroundings.You were parked in a field surrounded by tall trees.The sky was full of stars,the moon a bright crescent. “Where are we?”You asked. “Somewhere in New Jersey,Diner Capital of the Country.Pretty cool,right?”He raised his eyebrows.You nodded tiredly,reaching for his arm.He intertwined his fingers with yours,lifting up your arm and kissing the back of your hand lightly.

im having feels about alphard and i’ve never done one of these things so bear with me and also im way too sleepy but let’s not go there.

okay so let’s start off with etymology

the name ‘alphard’ is of course a star, because the Black family have an aesthetic to keep

but it’s the brightest star in the hydra constellation

you know who else was the brightest star in a constellation?

thats right, our one and only, sirius black!

his name also roots from arabic, which is pretty fucking metal for someone coming from a racist™ family

it derives from the word  “Al Fard“ which means ‘solitary one’

for some reason im getting victorian era widow living in windy hills writing poetry about her former lover but okay

but the correlation of astronomy and etymology between alphard and sirius has gotten me super hyped up on their relationship

of course uncle alphard was the cool™ uncle, but what if he was so much more?

what if he was the one who kinda brought sirius out of his shell?

because i cant imagine that living with the Blacks with such a fiery, rebellious personality would make for an encouraging childhood

so if sirius was this little kid, with so much pent up anger and suppressed personality

who was that small light in sirius’s life? like the one person who truly allowed sirius to be himself?

my old man, alphard

also for some reason, i get the vibe that he was really into either rifle shooting or archery

something muggle related that walburga didn’t want her kids near

but both reg and sirius was super curious, and absolutely loved it because it’s really the only muggle thing they’ve ever seen

and so every summer when the kids went and stayed with him

he’d show them his collection of rifles that he’d collected

and he’d tell stories of buying them from muggles and learning it with those wooden target dudes

and sirius and reg would just look up to him in awe because he talks to muggles!

oh and what if alphard, our old school rebel sometimes took them to muggle london?

imagine this: young sirius and reg wandering through 70s muggle london with this smart, friendly but also intimidating young man

and they’re just so excited, but they try to keep quiet because they were raised to sit still look pretty 

i hate their parents ugh

anyway so sirius finally snaps when he sees a popcorn maker

and for the first time alphard’s ever seen, one of walburga’s kids smiles

sirius points enthusiastically at the popcorn maker blurting out questions at the speed of light

until regulus tells him to keep quiet

sirius suddenly realises his outburst, and is filled with fear

because oh god, he loved uncle alphard, and the last thing he wanted was for his uncle to be mad

but then to his surprise

alphard just chuckles and smiles at him

his expression turns concerned when he sees the near tears in sirius’s eyes

“what’s wrong?” he asks in that gentle tone- that no one could expect from such a burly man

“i’m sorry,” stuttered out a five year old sirius, trying to keep tears in

“don’t be sorry! you were excited, there’s nothing wrong in having fun, is there?”

and this is the first time sirius has ever heard such a thing

so he looks up at alphard in confusion

alphard gives him that sweet, encouraging smile

and sirius hugs him like anything, holding on tightly and letting tears stain his robe

uncle alphard is actually the first person sirius had ever hugged

the only one he’d ever hugged until third year in hogwarts, when him and james had that conversation

back to alphard

these meetings to muggle london would be secret, and neither of them would tell their mother

regulus of course had his suspicions, and felt bad about hiding it from his mother

but in the end he loved fish and chips too much to give it up

especially when they had ice lollies while at the river or seaside

alphard and sirius had an even closer relationship once sirius was sorted into gryffindor

of course, he got the hateful and toxic letter from his parents

but a little while later

he also got one from alphard, which probably made him cry more than walburga

firstly because now uncle alphard would hate him!

but secondly because alphard was the only letter for a long time that’d encouraged him, and told him that he was still loved

and sirius just couldnt believe it

This is not the monstrous perfume post from my drafts, but it might be worse. I’m just thinking about roses.

Earlier this week i got a cute pink sweater that made me want to wear it with the one rose perfume I like, and oh no. Oh no, it’s actually not just a tolerable rose, it’s beautiful and i want to own a big stupid bottle. I guess this is once again down to me losing my hypersensitivity to certain notes. So yes, it is Le Labo; yes, I despise the rustic minimalist brand aesthetic; yes, the prices are outrageous in general, but especially for something that basically smells like fancy hand soap. But like, it makes me feel pretty and fragile, which first of all lmao, and secondly i cant think of another perfume that noticeably affects how i feel. also for being one of those clean soap scents it wears very well and stays in your clothes for days so maybe there is sth to the price. Except of course there isn’t and i would never. but i do want to. it’s rose and a number of woods, as well as cumin but i barely get that at all. its detractors mostly seem to say that it’s not much of a rose, which has got to be why i liked it in the first place. i still notice the rose, and its just enough for me - delicate and subdued like the whole fragrance. the entire vibe is like... effortless, it could just be an incidental combination of someone’s skin, laundry detergent and like the grass they’re lying in. it’s like if the hypothetical  jo malone fan instagram influencer i made up to get mad at became even more infuriating by developing wealth and good taste. i don’t like it but i love it, as the song goes lmao

just look at that ad photo, sets my fucking teeth on edge. the le labo gimmick is that the number (as in Rose 31) represents the number of ingredience to i guess again invoke minimalism, the bastards

anyway this whole experience made me want to look into the handful of rose samples and decants i have lying around, bc i always loved the idea of a rose fragrance even though i didnt like any of them in practice, and never quite gave up hope that i might find one that works for me. they tended to be advertised as unisex or male because obviously i have gender problems, but also because flowers make my nose itch and masculine florals tend to just be less floral (they also tend to include lavender so thats just as bad)  

So i picked up Moschino’s Toy Boy and look at that bottle lmao the vibes are impeccable.

This isn’t the first Moschino that i got curious abt bc it gets talked abt as a playful unconventional men’s fragrance but like, they’re all so bad! even for the money! i don’t remember this one being so broadly bad, i was mainly irritated by a sickly musk note that some brands like to include, and i figured my sensitivity to that might be gone too. i actually think it is bc it wasn’t the problem that stood out this time around. the whole thing is just very loud, very sweet (gotta be the pear) and kind of astringent. It has the rose-citrus (bergamot in this case) combo, that i’ll mention again further down, which is i guess people’s go-to for “Rose.... but make it men”, and it just gives air freshener. It gives aerosol for the bathroom. I can see how despite the notes being very traditional to feminine-marketed fragrances (fruits and flowers) the creators thought of it as male bc it is so discordant and aggressive. i sprayed it one first and couldnt test anything else, even on my other arm, until i scrubbed it off again because it just overpowered everything. anyway, a perfume word to describe Toy Boy would be linear. It opens with its extremety and stays there. Another one would be synthetic, but i don’t like to use that one, and resent it when other people do - it’s snobbish. i think that “unnatural” effect is mostly down to the rose/citrus combination, which does the same thing in Amouage’s Lyric, which is crazy expensive. Anyway I love the teddy bear bottle and the name and the idea of it and how it’s fairly cheap but jesus is the scent obnoxious. which i guess goes w the whole vibe, but also an obnoxious bottle design or name is not literally damaging to people’s health and well-being the way scents can be, so like.

speaking of Amouage Lyric Man. So this is one is expensive and widely beloved.

The opening is absolutely horrific, astringent, soap up my nose, not even room spray but urinal cake. The vibe is upscale shopping mall/hotel lobby bathroom. Lyric Man has a reputation for being a sparkling clean rose, and yeah, the toilet bowl it evokes in my mind is extremely clean. This one is also rose and citrus, and i feel like thats just gotta be a bad combo. Rose is very perfume-y and citrus can evoke cleaning products, so its hard not to end up w sth that suggests room spray. As Lyric dries and the lime and bergamot dissipate it does become warmer, sweeter, spicier and more complex. I get the incense, vanilla, ginger and nutmeg that are supposed to be in there, as well as the musk that becomes more prominent the longer it dries. i can also see how it might have pine and sandalwood. However, the industrial chemical rose sticks around and makes the whole thing difficult to like. The drydown vibe is rose scented incense cones. Or maybe expensive hand cream. I can see the client for this, he’s 45+, fem, obnoxious and insanely hot, and also a heavy smoker w a slightly damaged sense of smell. Sorry i cant be him i guess.

(I will say i’m generally an Amouage hater, I don’t get them, I resent that everything they make comes in a boy version and a girl version, and I haven’t tried one thing from them that i liked. Tbf i was testing their florals before realizing that i generally gotta be careful with those, but also the one woody perfume i tried from them just smelled of untreated lumber so. maybe i gotta look into the feminine line, but again, i resent that they even have that)  

And i guess like my fucking relationship to the brand does matter bc i am not gonna be bitch abt the Etat Libre d’Orange roses lmao

Experimentum Crucis opens green, juicy and vegetal, smells of rose stems and leaves, but quickly becomes sweeter and more powdery, as fruit-shampoo-cough-syrup notes and the actual rose emerge. The vibe is once again sharp, sweet and sour. It’s also a tart fruity rose, but apple as opposed to citrus, which i  think keeps it away from being toilet spray. Finally the dry down is more muted, woody, and green. Basically the sweet sticky fruits disappear and it returns to a lighter and softer version of the first few minutes. so it’s A+ opening and finsih, obnoxious middle. I guess im just not into lychee, it makes things smell like fruit scented shampoo. Experimentum Crucis has the same broad idea as Toy Boy and Lyric (fresh clean fruity rose) but so much better, more pleasant and naturalistic (bad word to use for perfume, but i mean that it smells like living plants), less choking than either of those. But also i do stan ELDO.

I thought this could be my one rose until i tried Rose 31 again. Having them both next to each other right now, they’re different. Experimentum Crucis is fresh and plant-like, Rose 31 is .... lovely lmao. Anyway Experimentum Crucis is also kinda similar to ELDO’s older Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombre, which is also a rose though i dont think of it as one. Its gimmick is evoking a petrichor wet pavement effect which it kinda does, but its generally much less appealing and natural smelling than Experimuntum Crucis, despite the whole idea behind it being to suggest the impression of a natural phenomenon. There is just sth unpleasantly acidic abt it.

I was also thinking about one of the Mendittorosas in connection to this whole rose idea, but turns but that one isnt a rose at all to me, or at leat not to the same extent as the above 4 are. Still very nice though, but i gotta think about it separately.

I guess the conclusion I'm coming to is i havent really changed my mind about rose fragrances, i still dislike the ones i did before but with like a bit more nuance and understanding. also unfortunately the ELDO is very good but not perfect, while wrt Le Labo Rose 31 i am once again appalled by my desires lmao

Oh man, im influenced by a bunch of art and comics but i couldnt pin down specific inspirations for those haha

as for the more broad sense, i also have a bunch of things! significantly, physics and space. it might not look like it but i think a lot about the logistics of things and whatever rules would exist in my universes etc. it does suck sometimes bc it prevents me from doing things just for the hell of it, but i love applying knowledge to things. and space has always been something really close to me, my dad’s an astrophysicist so ive been exposed to all sorts of cool knowledge about it since i was a wee bab 

i also really really love metaphors and symbolism, but rather than take inspiration from things i just use my own personal symbolism x) i put a lot of myself in what i do. which.. i guess could be said for many artists too so its not too special haha

and also as with many other artists, i AM fueled by spite significantly. specifically 1. for the people who once thought or who still think id never be good to do art, or that id never get better at what i do. 2. for people who draw wings wrong (especially professional people? what’s wrong with you. im begging you to look at a bird) 3. for people and companies that make terrible designs with terrible decisions (they fuel me to do better than them) 4. for people who believe that the only way to be good at art and design is to make overly complex and visually charged, detailed designs with many colors/hues (all my ocs are fairly simple and have the most limited colors kffhk) 

im sure there’s a lot more but ive spent a lot of time writing this out already and i cant really think of anything else so i hope this is a good enough answer!! 

god i do NOT have enough knowledge for this but what the fuck was up with the volturi lol. like fuckin, vampire goth club over there did nothing to change over hundreds of years, all of them still stuck in their medieval ways. i remember a plot point that was touched upon was that they had a specific person lure in a bunch of lost tourists through the sewer entrance so that the volturi could drink them and like ?? bro. how is this not investigated at any point, ever. like a shit ton of tourists just disappear ??? all the time?? and no one gives a fuck?? no investigation?? what do they do with the bodies?????

also, they were willing to blast the carlisle family into fucking orbit over Turning A Child (tm) into a vampire, but they had absolutely no qualms about vampire wars/soldiers where a lot of people were irresponsibly turned into neophytes for their strength (like jasper) or people who turned others just for the fuck of it or bc theyd have sickass powers (like benjamin. that was the sole reason for benjamin being turned. bc the dude could feel that benj would have cool powers and he absolutely did... he was a fucking avatar. controller of the elements. and he did absolutely jack shit in the books. im still so mad) 

but yeah anyway the volturi are big hypocrites. got nothing to say about their lifestyle and aesthetic tho bc italians just be like that

his horns and the spikes on his forearms and tail are rly solid and rly pointy so theyre about as dangerous as a solid, pointy big thing can be

the spikes on his neck and back are a lot softer though. theyre flat scales and are probably bendy, but still sturdy. they don’t have edges or anything so you wont be sliced up if you touch them but touching them is probably not too comfortable

alex would probably be a crocodile tbh! it’s one of the things i based his dragon form off of for the latest iteration, and i just think it fits him a lot (also its funny that crocodiles are water creatures but alex has a Big Dislike of water)

also i literally cannot see adri as anything other than a snake sklhfsdk. its what he is!! this is like asking someone’s favorite color but not letting them choose their actual favorite. do you want me to lie? do you want me to say something not true??

Honestly i always loved deer but refused to acknowledge it, especially to myself, and much less thought about having one as a sona bc “prey animals are lame” was rly prevalent in my circles for the longest time. everyone was a dragon or a wolf etc bc they wanted to be cool and so did i but i never vibed with it it took me a rly long time to just accept that i rly liked deer haha and i think what made me decide on it in the end was ‘well i can make a deer more monstery if i wanted to, i have that power’ and so i did  then later i tied the whole ‘wrong deer’ aesthetic to my own personal symbolism of always being picked on by many until i got sick of it and learned to stand up for myself. my sona is something that’s not for people to prey on anymore, and so am i c:

Yo! I was thinking of something similar to your idea about knocking a song off each album. If you could make one song the title track that's not the title track on each album, which songs would you choose? And if you wouldn't change the title track defend why

okay lets go !! this is fun !!!! also get ready for a monstrously long essay. im going to do them out of order probably sdkjfsdf so this wont be organized But. well first off, on 1of1 i would pick u need me and Maybe this is bc im biased towards it bc its my favorite song but listen… i feel like they could have continued the 90s aesthetic w the song as well. it would have been a Different 90s aesthetic rather than the cheerful bright one they were going for But that song to me feels like playing a cyberpunk-y arcade game  and that is Very 90s so. i would have loved to see them 90s video game aesthetics in music video form i think it would have been interesting. 

i would definitely leave dream girl as the title track for misconceptions of you. not necessarily bc its my favorite song off the album in this case, bc its not, but bc i think thematically it works best. especially bc my Ideal title track from misconceptions of you would have been nightmare. so going from dream girl -> nightmare works Perfectly in a thematic sense and it definitely ties those two albums together even wore. especially bc moy’s sound was more upbeat/had a Brighter aesthetic, while misconceptions of me was darker Both in the aesthetic/packaging of the album and in the songs themselves. which makes sense bc its going from a happy dream to a nightmare. this is really my favorite concept and im going to be on my deathbed wishing nightmare was the title track bc i love this idea so much its so Perfect.

for odd i find it really difficult to say. the other day i was talking about shinee albums w someone (and we were comparing 1of1 to odd) and they said that 1of1 was definitely a more cohesive album w better flow, however it could have been intentional that odd didnt rly have a cohesive Vibe bc it was called well… odd. like an odd jumble of songs together. i think thats rly brilliant btw and true so!! see initially i would say ‘well keep view’ bc i got this whole dreamy summer roadtrip vibe from the teasers/pictures and all that But if you were to pick a different song then the teasers/pictures would reflect that. its harder to tackle bc theres not a Theme like there is 1of1 or the misconceptions albums. and i like the whole dreamy roadtrip aesthetic where everything seems floaty and is if youre seeing it through a filter. i really enjoy that. but i think odd eye would have made for a very interesting mv and an entirely different concept all together Which is cool,, i also think it does work in that it references something not matching and being Odd™ just like the songs on the album itself which is a good summary of the “theme” of that album, if there would be any. i think view is probably a better title track in terms of marketability and all that But thats besides the point. so yeah after reflection,,  i do think i would pick odd eye

for mttm theres zero question i would keep mttm as the title track its literally their best mv and its So unique and stand out. its an amazing concept that is just on an entirely different level. also i loved the rocky horror teasers stuff that was great !! and again the mv itself is the most unique one that shinee has done Ever so changing the title track is not a good idea here

now that we get 2 sherlock i start to find this difficult bc i just cant imagine any other song being the title track. this is the same for lucifer. both those songs are so Iconique and one of the most well known songs shinee has ever put out. they are legitimately iconic. i mean lucifer is straight up shinees most well known and universally adored song tbh. they are such mainstays in shinees overall Image that a timeline where theyre not the title tracks seem so different. this goes for ring ding dong as well there is No way i would ever change the title track to be anything but rdd ring ding dong has birthed us so many memes for like 8 fuckign years straight. and Also for replay (although thats a debut not a title track so),,, its their debut song i cannot change that Dude its such a defining moment for them and they perform it to this day. these are less “objective” answers probably but nonetheless my answers.

for everybody,, while my favorite song is destination as everyone should Know at this point i would pick queen of new york. like in fact No i would not chose symptoms to be title track although thats the most well liked from that album. i dont have a super strong for reason except for the fact that i think queen of new york would make for an interesting mv. for some reason i always imagine some of kind of retro futuristic vibe from that song. actually the very specific aesthetic i imagine is the one in this picture or this one. i dont rly know Why but i think of something really colorful and maybe slightly surreal looking but not in a dramatic way,, i think this aesthetic is interesting for a mv. and ok who am i fooling of course id also say destination. destination could have Amazing choreo and itd be so fun  i imagine a very fast paced mv where they go around zooming through like 20 dimensions and fight ppl or something. it could work in their military uniforms which queen of new york couldnt rly skjfskfd. 

now,,, the hello repackage. while hello is also one of their Iconic songs tbh ive got to say that id change the title track to a-yo. initially i felt that Urge to say obsession but i wont bc i think a-yo fits the aesthetic that the repackage was going for Aka something light and bubbly after lucifer. a-yo has the same general light and bubbly vibe as hello does, and i happen to like it better, so i think hello’s aesthetic could be preserved while using an (imo) better song so !!

right what the fuck am i missing. oh right the romeo album. id pick talk to you for no real reason besides that i like the song a lot skfskjdfsdf i think they could also preserve a lot juliettes aesthetic with it as well. its a good representative of the albums general sound as well, so thats good!! and its just a good ass song Dude
