Muichiro would carry you back to the house you were staying in in the swordsmith village and help you get cleaned up.

Let’s all be real here, you both would be flustered seeing each other in the hot spring.

“KYAAAAAAAAAAH! It’s our first time soaking in a hot spring together! Isn’t this exciting??!”

You both would be chatting endlessly the whole time while you were soaking.

While Mitsuri was ranting about food or cats, your eyes would dart between her fern green eyes and her b a d o n k e r s I know you would you little perverts

Yea there were definitely a ton lot of ranting about random things.

After having a nice long relaxing soak in the hot spring, you and Mitsuri would have a nice meal.

Genya

The poor boy would be painted red all over and be frozen in place as soon as you showed up.

You would be talking to him, asking how his day was, or whether he ate dinner already. But he would be too flustered to even open his mouth and talk to you.

You being intimate with him obviously did not help.

Tracing the scars that decorated his body is a must.

Throughout the whole time you both were soaking, the only thing anyone could hear was you happily ranting about random stuff, like what you wanted to eat for dinner.

After soaking, you would help Genya clean up. Because, well, the whole time Genya is too flustered to do anything.

Since he doesn’t usually go eat with everybody else during dinner, you would eat with him in his room.

You like seeing his soft side don’t you :)

Nezuko-chan

Nezuko is a fun and happy little girl, so I for sure know you both would be playing around in the hot spring

The both of you would splash water at each other, chase each other around the hot spring etc.

You would be playing with Nezuko like an elder sibling

Sanemi and you, before all of this, get along fine

He respects the other hashira, and obviously sees your strength and drive

But he’s not overly kind, he’s just himself and standoffish

When he does find out about this however, don’t expect a huge reaction

Because he doesn’t know how to react

It’s most likely that you wouldn’t tell him outwardly, and Genya doesn’t speak much with him

Whatever the situation may be, he looks at the two of you for a second

Genya, having grown up with him, recognizes the look in his eyes

It’s the look he’d have with their mother and younger siblings

Yet much fainter now

Sanemi is protective, and this new fire is to cradle you two with your feelings

He wants the best for his brother, and you’re perfect for him

Kind, incredibly powerful, and strong willed

Another person to look out for Genya while able to give him the affection Sanemi fails to deliver

For the sake of happiness, let’s say Sanemi and Genya speak more

Sanemi tells Genya to not be an idiot and treat you right

Before a date he’ll sometimes silently approach Genya and fix his little arrangement of flowers with a huff

It’s more like you two are enemies and comrades at the same time

You and Giyu make quick work of the smaller demons, but the lower moon obviously poses a challenge

It’s relatively normal until he sees the demon go directly for Genya

It had read your feelings and went for your most important emotional connection

Just before the sharp nails reached Genya, Giyu severed the hand off

He wasn’t sure what made his body move on its own, but seeing you happily embracing your boyfriend after the battle was enough to pull a small smile onto Giyu’s face

Willing to do anything to assist his fellow hashira

Despite being only slightly older than you and Genya, Rengoku acts like a big brother

Now this man is probably one of the first to know (because Mitsuri gossiped to him and his brother over lunch)

And while his energy is over the top, he won’t share the secret

He’s a smart man, and very in tune with emotions

So he knows that it can’t be easy for you

Demons are enough of an issue, no more pressure trying to keep a secret as big as a relationship

Now he loves to talk just as much as he loves to listen

You’re like a little sibling and he’ll listen to all your rants

“The way he wore his hair today. It curled up after the rain and..!”

He won’t judge you for your blushing while recounting the events

Instead he’ll try his best to make that situation happen again

Genya happens to have his hair like that everyday now?

It’s because Rengoku told him that leaving his hair the way it is after air drying is healthy!

It was some “secret flashy plan”

It was early in you and Genyas relationship

And Suma, Hina, and Makio suddenly snuck up on you and stanched you away into the sound hashita estate

They gave you a makeover

Makio and Suma picked out a pretty outfit while Hina gently did your hair and a little bit of makeup

The entire time you four all gossiped, which ended up in your blushing while blabbering about Genya and your early stages of dating

Genya… he wasn’t so lucky

Tengen stole him away and was on his “make over” duty

Not that Genya and Tengen are bad in their respective rights, it’s just…

Genya is a hard around the edges boy and Tengen is Tengen

But he eventually cracked and gave him some serious advice that wasn’t just “I have three wives, I’m a ladies man”

All while helping him find an outfit that isn’t his uniform

“Girls… they’re less complicated than you think. And that one, she’s in for the hell of it. So you have to treat her nice, and she’ll do the same. You’re both good kids, you’ll be fine.”

This all leads to you looking like an angel by your makeover and him blushing furiously

And… Tengens plan may have just set up the date when you two had your first kiss!

And she’s familiar with Genya after his demon consumption

So it’s very obvious to her what’s going on

Especially after he’s the first to visit you and visa versa

She remembers the day she really found out though… wasn’t a good one

Genya had eaten demon flesh again, even if instructed by everyone to stop

Gyomei said it was immoral, Sanemi said it was stupid, and Shinbou said it was unhealthy

But you, you hated it the most

Seeing him become something he’s not

You loved him, not a demon

And hated the danger it proved

So when this night came, hell broke loose

He had eaten demon and transformed for the night

It’s just that you saw him right before sunrise

And we’re unsure if he had transformed back into a human before the sun

Leading you to leave the battlefield, covered in bruises and pushing past every slayer who tried to speak to you

When you met Shinbou, you started crying

Genuine tears one only cried after the loss of their life

Being herself, she hugged you

And tried to help by inquiring your emotions

“G-Genya! Sniffle Is he here? He was still a demon minutes before sunrise.”

She understands and ushers you someplace

Genya is fast asleep, making a cute face as if he was dreaming

You never outwardly told her, but she’ll never forget the fear at the thought of losing him, and the relief in your eyes and you feel to the ground in tears at his survival

Unbothered king

Now he’s friends with Genya but both are rather reserved people

Not the type to share much about their lives and feelings

Let’s pretend this is after his memory is restored

Muichiro is a good kid, and your friend as well

But is pretty unaware of romance and honesty not that interested

Not that he won’t listen

You could talk him ear off about anything and he’d hum in acknowledgment

He just doesn’t have much input

You three do hang out together sometimes

If you’re more extroverted it works well

You pull them along to do fun things

You three really getting to act your age and mess around

If you’re more introverted this is one of the chillest groups ever

When Genya is around people he trusts (his lover and friend who are both Hashira) he never yells or acts over the top

He’s actually rather quiet just like Muichiro, especially when in his presence

The one real involvement of Mui in romance is Genya asking if the flowers he picked are good and Mui nodding even though he knows absolutely nothing about gift giving or flowers

And the second she sees you she’s bouncing in excitement

Pulling you to the nearest place to sit and interrogating you

For being the love hashira, she’s pretty clueless

She always wants to know every cute detail

“You kissed his cheek? The scar or the other side? Did he blush? He always blushes around you!”

This is what I mean by dream or nightmare

Either you get embarrassed about the question or love the gossip about your lover

She’s the more supportive, giving you amazing date ideas

Even if most of them have to do with eating

She’s the first to know about your first kiss and this girl wants the WHOLE story

She definitely tells Obanai too (if you’re okay with it)

She doesn’t talk to Genya much though :(

Especially since the first and only time she tried to ask about your relationship his face lit up bright red and he seemed to freeze

“All I did was ask about your relationship and he didn’t respond! The conversation was fine before that!”

But he is never surprised when he gets a visit from her crow with a letter of all your new favorite foods, places, and items

She’s an excellent gift giver and wants to help him

As if he didn’t already know all of that, he genuinely appreciates the effort

This girl is your biggest fan!

He’s a wise older man and a observant mentor

And while you may be off most of the time, Genya is always training under him

And he doesn’t fail to notice Genya always hitting that much harder whenever you are gone on a long mission

I’m saying this man knew Genya had a crush before Genya knew that himself

And he was moved, brought to tears and not paying attention to Genyas huffs of embarrassment

Genya would never yell at him of course

Gyomei is a smart man

And with that he knows a lot about kids (he considers you both kids)

So he’s well aware of your dancing around your feelings

And that upsets him

Your time on this earth is very likely to be short as demon slayers, so you both shouldn’t be wasting it

That is why, as the oldest hashira, he gets some plans in motion

Why are you suddenly on more missions with Genya?

Why do you both end up at the same wisteria house?

Why is it that you both happen to have the same days off?

Gyomei Himejima is why baby

He wants what’s best for the people under his care, even you can take care of yourself

And if he has to put in some forced proximity? So be it

Obanai does care

Not some bullshit of him being uninterested with other people’s lives

He sees you as a child (you’re obviously around Genya’s age) and knows that only so many things could make a child in the demon slayer corps happy

He knows neither of you have had good lives

If you had, you wouldn’t be in this damn job

That being said, with how withdrawn he is you’d probably think he didn’t even know you and Genya were an item

But he’s observant

And cares for his fellow hashira just like everyone else

He won’t have much to do with anything

But best believe he listens to both Sanemi complain and Mitsuri babble about you two

Sanemi is trying to seem tough

Obanai is probably the second most hated character in the fandom, and just like Sanemi, he’s one of the most misunderstood. I think the hate he gets from the fandom is unwarranted; he’s accused of being a dick, a horrible person, a simp and a character who only exists to be Mitsuri’s love interest. All of which is unfair, sure he’s prickly and unapproachable, but he’s not as bad as the fandom makes him out to be.

So, in my quest to draft a defense for our favorite snek boy, I reread his backstory and in doing so, I realized something sad

Unhinged theory

Obanai is a sexual abuse survivor

Let me explain:

Obanai’s backstory and aspects of his character mirrors that of someone who’s been through sexual trauma. The evidence I'm going to present is a combination of my own knowledge about these matters and information I got from forums and websites for male survivors of sexual abuse. So let's examine them...um spoilers

The snake demon

I believe that the snake demon is a metaphor for a sexual predator. Her inclusion in the family could also be a metaphor for how these predators insert themselves into family units-or most of the time are family members themselves-and abuse the children for years and even generations. Obanai's relatives sacrificing their babies to her could signify the real life actions of families who are unaware or, turn a blind eye to, or sometimes actively participate in the abuse of their children.

The sacrifice in exchange for wealth speaks of how families in real life ignore the abuse of their children to maintain the wealth and status they obtain from being related to and associated with the abuser.

Even her decision to wait, ordering the cutting of his mouth so he would look like her, could be interpreted as her 'grooming' him in a sense.

Even her design has a certain sexual, predatory aspect to it that's different from the other demons.

His relatives

Obanai describes his family members as being 'disgustingly' affectionate and bringing him lots of 'greasy' food that made him sick. Food in media is often used to depict love, affection, connection and sex, and Demon Slayer is no different.

There are plenty of instances where food and the giving of food has been used to denote friendship (Tanjiro giving Zenitsu, Inosuke and Genya meals in an attempt to bond with them), connection (Giyuu wanting to give Sanemi ohagi), love (Tanjiro's love of cooking and the satisfaction he shows when his meals are enjoyed by others) and pleasure (Mitsuri's large appetite). I'll make a post about this later.

With this context, we can interpret their bringing of rich foods, their overbearing attention and affections as them objectifying and even being sexually inappropriate with him.

The sexual abuse

Non-physical.

The first instance of abuse is non-physical, but that doesn't make it any less important. Being constantly visited by the snake demon in his room at night, Obanai described his feelings of terror, being paralyzed and watched. His body would break out in a sweat, and he would be unable to fall asleep.

His descriptions of the experience and his body's reaction to it reminded me of some survivors' stories I read, where they talked about how in the initial stages of the abuse or when the abuser was first introduced into their lives, their abuser would give them unwanted attention, would stare at them in a way that felt creepy, gross and wrong.

Some had their abusers come in to their rooms, maybe under the guise of 'checking in on them'. They described feeling terrified, freezing up with the hopes that the attacker would leave. Some would take measures such as sleeping with the door locked or with a heavy object against it, sleeping with a sibling or parent, sleeping in a hiding spot that the attacker knows nothing about or not sleeping at all.

Physical.

The specific age that the snake demon plans to 'eat' Obanai is never stated, but from what we've seen so far and in the sexual context, we can assume that she's waiting until he hits puberty. Some studies state that the average age of victims of female sex offenders usually falls around 14 years, but there are cases where the female predator waited until their victim reached sexual maturity before they carried out their abuse, like in the case of Mary Kay Letourneau. Here's a video that breaks down an interview she did before her death.

Obanai was 12 when he was dragged out of his cell to be subjected to what I believe is the first physical abuse. He had his mouth slit from ear to ear, with the blood collected and fed to her. The snake demon decided to have him live a little longer, which again, fits into my theory of her wanting to wait until he reached puberty.

Bodily violation, violence and blood are common allegories for sexual assault used in media and in Obanai's backstory we see it being used when his relatives drag him from his cell, literally pin him down, cut his mouth and feed his blood to the snake demon. The act of feeding on his blood could also be a metaphor for the snake demon sexually abusing him.

His escape and the resulting fallout

Obanai managed to escape, and although he was tracked down by the snake demon, he was saved by Shinjuro Kengoku before she could kill him. His cousin's response was to blame him for all that happened, asked why he ran away, and said that he should have 'allowed' the demon to eat him.

This could represent how some victims are rejected, ostracized and criticized for speaking out against their attacker, exposing the abuse to the public and getting help. Their families would say 'you should have just let it happen', 'you destroyed the family', 'why did you run away, tell people?' and place the blame on the victim.

Obanai's reaction

There are three aspects of his characterization that are similar to the common reactions noticed in adult survivors of sexual assault, especially male survivors.

His appearance.

His behavior.

His beliefs.

His appearance

Obanai has a small frame that he hides with his baggy uniform and haori. I can tell it's baggy compared to that of the other slayers because of the width of his pants vs the width of his lower legs. Desexualization or hypo-sexualization is a common response among some survivors of sexual trauma, this usually involves wearing clothes and taking measures to make themselves look 'unattractive'.

'But this side feels more comfortable for me, like the baggy clothes I wear, which hide my body, and the long sleeves which reach past my wrists. I promised myself no man would ever touch me again, and whether it was a moment of triumph, or a moment of defeat, I still don't know.'

Male survivors who were victims of childhood abuse by female perpetrators often talk about how the abuse greatly affected their relationships with women or lack thereof. Some going so far as to say that they became afraid of women, being around them and how sometimes being touched by women would trigger panic attacks and remind them of the trauma.

Obanai has similar responses when he finds himself in proximity to women. We're only told about it in the main manga, but it's shown in the Gakuen. I know the Gakuen takes place in an alternate universe, but aside from the events, the behaviors of the characters are based on their actual personalities in the main manga, so we can safely say the reactions he displays in the Gakuen is canon to his character.

His beliefs

Adult survivors of sexual abuse often struggle with feelings of guilt, rage, and shame. In the manga, Obanai talks about being held back by the decaying hands of his family members, which could represent the long-lasting effects of sexual abuse and how some survivors carry these burdens all through adulthood or throughout their lives.

There's also the thoughts about himself that echo the heartbreaking thoughts shared by some male survivors.

Guilt:

"As the member of a filthy family, I too was corrupt. My sins were deep, so I could not live a normal life"

Rage:

"With no other outlet, I turned all my rage on demons in a grudge of intense hatred. By risking my life for others, I felt as if I could in some way become a slightly better person."

"I want to die defeating Muzan." (He's the only character that I know of that outright says this.)

He also kind-of expresses his feelings of being weak during the fight with Muzan:

While this quote isn't exactly definite, a feeling of being weak, or being 'less of a man' is also a common experience shared by male sexual assault survivors.

The scar and It's symbolism

The scar is a physical manifestation of the lifelong effect that sexual abuse has on its victims and the stigma it carries. For Obanai, it's not just a painful reminder of the trauma he suffered at the hands of his family, but also a reminder to him that he's like his attacker, the snake demon. The bandages he wraps around his mouth symbolizes not just his attempts to hide his trauma, but also his inability to talk about it due to shame and fear, which is unfortunately an all too common experience of male survivors.

Another struggle survivors often experience is with intimacy, romantic relationships and sex. For Obanai, I believe that this struggle is represented by his eating disorder. The link between food and sex is a well established belief in many cultures, people with large appetites can be seen as having equally high sex drives while people with small appetites have little or no sex drive.

As he grows older, his little appetite is basically him curbing his growing sexual desire, which he sees as ugly, like the scar on his mouth. But the thing is Obanai wants love, he wants to love and be loved, to be intimate with another person, but he feels he doesn't deserve it, after all he's filthy, shameful and probably a predator just like the snake demon. So he starves himself, suffering in silence with the belief that he was disgusting, that no one would ever love him, that he was destined to and deserved to be alone.

Then he met Mitsuri.

In Conclusion, Obanai is way more complex than the KnY fandom gives him credit for. This is a man that went through immense suffering, and it's really sad to see people hate on him because he isn't 'nice'.

Well, that's just how life is. Trauma doesn't exactly make nice people. We can't all be like Giyuu or Tanjiro(bestest boy ❤), a lot of us are like Obanai, Sanemi, and even Shinobu, a lot of us are angry, and why shouldn't we be?

A sudden knock was heard at the front door, making you smile. You had already done your makeup and your hair. You were ready just on time. You quickly walked out the room. “I’ll get it!” You yelled out, putting a beautiful hairpin in your hair before running out of your room.

That was until you were stopped by an arm moving in front of you. “I told you not that one.” Kyojuro frowned, making you laugh at his desperate attempt to make you change into a plain kimono.

Your eyes softened and you gave a gentle smile at Zenitsu before grabbing the bouquet from his hands and kissing his cheek, making his face go pink.

“You look to pretty, Y/n!” Zenitsu yelled cheerfully before grabbing your hand to rush off to the festival you two would be going to together.

Kyojuro stood up from his seat, walking over to the door. Opening it, he found Muichiro, dressed in a yukata which the flame pillar quickly recognized as the one Muichiro wore on his first date with you.

Conveniently, Kyojuro immediately thought the worst. Muichiro had a bouquet in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other hand.

The flame pillars first thought was that the young boy had maybe come to apologize for something drastic. “Why are you dressed all fancy?” Kyojuro asked, inspecting Muichiro as he only tilted his head.

“Well…I want to ask your sister if I can be her boyfriend.” Muichiro responded bluntly as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“But…You’re already dating her..”

“really?” Muichiro questioned, his eyes sparkling for a quick second.

What started off as a regular ranked mission turned into a hashira rank as upper moon 3, Akaza, arrived.

A fight started with you all having a major advantage and not giving him a chance to adjust to the constant barade of attacks.

"4 against 1, that's hardly fair. Let's even the playing field, shall we?" Akaza said as he created some distance between all of you. His eyes wondered over each one of you like a predator deciding which to eat first.

His gaze landed on you and before you could react he plunged 2 fingers into you head, allowing his blood to flow into you.

Inosuke acted first, running towards you both swords swinging at Akaza. Tanjiro was next pulling you away from the upper moon as your veins started to show from your skin.

Tanjiro got you a good distance away and laid you on your back, Zenitsu was bouncing all around you in worry. Your eyes we're rolling to the back of your head.

"I- I'm so- rry- I was too.... Too weak" You sobbed as you chocked on your own blood.

Your vision became clouded.

In that moment you lost all control.

Your nails dug into tanjiro's arm as your speech turned inaudible, you tried to pull him toward you in an attempt to bite him.

Zenitsu wrapped his arms around your middle and ripped you away from him.

"CONTROL YOURSELF Y/N" he screeched, tears free falling from his eyes.

Your limbs struck him wildly.

Tanjiro tried to hold your arms.

Inosuke distracted himself with the Akaza. He didn't want what happened to rengoku to happen to you.

They struggled for hours to get you to calm down.

When the Love Hashira, Mitsuri takes you under her wing as her loveable Tsuguko and accidentally ends up bringing in so many suitors for you after making you stand out so beautifully, your older brothers flip their shit and almost try to pull you out of Mitsuri’s care

Sanemi and Genya have a very similar view on you. They both love you so much and they can’t stand you getting taken away by anything so they both develop a maddening obsession with protecting you from the world itself. The world is a danger now, and they both will make sure they won’t lose their only remaining sibling

Sanemi chases away the many suitors that try to woo you from the sidelines as Genya pulls you from them physically, asking why you want to be wooed by some weirdo. Sanemi doesn’t want either you nor Genya to be a slayer but he is attachment over you two has grown to such a intense degree that he can’t keep himself away from you two anymore. You are his life and love, he needs the both of you with him and he will do whatever he must to keep that

usually he goes Baby Mode when his emotions get carried away. 9 times out of 10 its because he's really angry and frustrated about his situation

but he will also go baby mode when he's super happy. Tengen found out he could get him to go Baby Mode via tickling him and playing with him for example

He went Baby Mode for the first time when he accidentally got himself hurt during a 'tantrum.' Sanemi accidentally hit his head, and the second Genya scrambled to make sure he was okay, he began bawling his eyes out and he dropped

Genya was worried, but once Sanemi was cheered up, he was thrilled, because it turns out Baby Sanemi is attached to him

this weirded out Giyuu and Obanai a lot-- the angry Wind Hashira was suddenly a super happy-and-go-lucky baby who drooled all over the place

they were not huge fans of Sanemi trying to play with them, though Giyuu reluctantly joined in-- only to regress into an infant mindset as well. Obanai thought he was in hell

Giyuu:

he’s having a hard time processing the attention and care he’s receiving and he just sort of drops out of nowhere

Obanai and Sanemi, being his number one haters, mock and degrade him for it via baby babble, but thats just because they struggle a LOT with the situation

they are very thrown off when Giyuu starts cooing and attempts to cuddle with them

Sanemi in particular, gets super annoyed because he keeps pawing at his face and trying to play with him

Giyuu keeps calling Obanai "baby" because he's a lot tinier. the Hashira find this hysterical

Giyuu warms up to the transition pretty fast to make things easier. he tends to go Baby Mode more voluntarily and tries to help the other two understand why its useful

Sanemi and Obanai just assume Giyuu is doing this to make himself look high and mighty, and it pisses them off. every time Giyuu goes Baby Mode around them, they spend the first minute being like "what the hell is the matter with you. jerk"

the other Hashira are grateful but a few can’t help themselves from teasing him about it. they all agree hes adorable when he regresses. Shinobu is thriving 

Tanjiro and Nezuko adore Giyuu whether he's big or small, but when he's Baby Mode, he's much more willing to be held and snuggled and loved

Urokodaki cries the first time he sees Giyuu in Baby Mode. he loves his son very much

Obanai:

his first Baby Mode directly resulted from Obanai's inability to find Kaburamaru. someone (probably Tengen) makes the mistake of pulling the serpent away from the tiny baby out of fear that Kaburamaru might accidentally hurt him, and when Obanai lost sight of his familiar, he began to quietly weep

nobody noticed his cries at first, but Mitsuri quickly picked up on how curled up the baby was, and how his little body shook in distress. she quickly scooped him up and showered him in affection, not even questioning Obanai's change in mental state

as she fawned over him, the others reunited Kaburamaru with Obanai, and the two clung to each other the whole night

everyone quickly found out Obanai would involuntarily go Baby Mode for several reasons. mainly losing sight of Kaburamaru or when everyone tries to get him fed

Obanai is extremely sensitive and weepy, and the only thing that really cheers him up is words of reassurance combined with snuggles. Giyuu and Sanemi find this pretty ironic. usually Sanemi will just pat the smaller baby's head, but Giyuu will actively crawl over and hug him in an effort to help

when he has trouble eating, Sanemi and Giyuu sympathize with him, since this is a habit Big Obanai has as well. those two can actually eat fruits and mushed up baby food, but Obanai still needs to be bottle-fed (at least in the beginning). to help, the two will also drink from a bottle to show him it's okay

when they are no longer in Baby Mode, Sanemi yells that Obanai owes him. Obanai feels both insulted and shocked

he will also go Baby Mode while being taken care of Mitsuri and Rengoku. its hard not to when they're so genuine and loving

In this world, you find your soulmate not by a red string or a name tattooed on your person, but rather a symbolic little picture imprinted on your shoulder that symbolised something special between you and your soulmate.

The world has seen the ordinary sort (a coffee cup for a cafe meet cute, a book for a library study session), with some unique types (a cross to represent a hospital visit)...but surely no one else on earth save for one Genya Shinazugawa had one of a grave.

It was a plain, unexceptional thing really. Just a simple brown casket underneath thin lines of grass and soil and a tombstone standing sentry over it.

Yet how could it NOT symbolise anything not related to death?

Did it mean he'd die before meeting his soulmate? Did it mean whoever they were, were already dead? Did it mean they were both going to die upon meeting? God, it drove him crazy.

And fearful.

Which was why Genya had long sworn off finding his soulmate. They were both clearly better off never meeting.

So he contented himself with dating around people occasionally who had yet to meet their soulmates. Sure, he knew it wouldn't last long, until they met their one and only at least, but it was fun while it did and at any rate it kept his mind off his own dark, depressing mark.

It still hurt though. Hurt to watch everyone, family and friends and colleagues - hell, even enemies - get together with their soulmates.

Inosuke and Aoi going out after she tripped on his loose shoe he lost running to class identical to the one on her arm and smacked him for it. Iguro-san and Mitsuri-chan shyly confessing their undying love when they pieced together his mark was an old pizza box and hers was a Bunsen burner and test tubes. Kanao and Tanjiro got together after their dropped wallet mix up and discovering the missing halves of their coins literally.

For fxxk's sake, even that Agatsuma kid and Nezuko started dating when they saw the lightning and the loaf of bread on each other's shoulders.

It was really making him feel...slightly left out.

But getting together with his soulmate was a bad idea. So for years Genya could've won a Grammy award for his acting like it was fine, that he never did actually want to meet his soulmate.

Until stupid, lovable HER waltzed back into his life.

He vaguely remembered her from his childhood, but when they both started talking it was like he had known her all his life. Even the gloomy way of how both of them had first met - at some services for a relative of hers and a great god aunt of his - did nothing to dampen their childhood recap chatter.

Was it her charming, if not idiotic humor? Was it the way she complimented him so naturally? Was it the way she just stared at him across the ground and smiled when he turned around?

Whatever it was...she was really making it hard for him to keep to his promise.

"Hey, Genya?"

God. This was it. No, no, no...

"Hmm, yeah?"

"There's something I want to tell you...We've been really good friends for a while now. I was thinking...something more?"

Genya groaned into his pillow and banged his head against his bed while an irritated Sanemi sat at the other end with a disbelieving expression and handa in the midst face palming himself and bringing it down on his little brother's skull in despair and rage.

"GENYA, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!? I'M FXXKING TIRED KF SEEING BOTH YOUR PUPPY EYES AND MOONING!” Sanemi bellowed, then took a deep breath to calm himself and wake his already asleep siblings. “Dammit, what did she say?"

"She was so nice about it, that's the problem!!! She even said we could still be friends if I was fine with it but I just feel even more guilty! WHY ARE GIRLS JUST SO - UGHHH."

"Genya, is this about your soulmate mark thing again?" Sanemi sighed, suddenly serious, and yanked his brother up. "You do know plenty of people don't wind up with their soulmate right, stupid idiot? It doesn't decide everything."

"Yeah, but what if she finds her soulmate and they're a better match? She showed me her mark once - something like a black umbrella lying in a puddle."

"Black umbrella?" Sanemi frowned (well, even more so than before) and leaned back. "Well, well, you don't see that many of that colour around. What are the odds of him finding her soulmate?"

"You found yours! Besides, it's really common, it's the sort of umbrella you bring to a funeral."

"Funeral? Damn, kinda like yours huh, tough luck - hang on a second."

"Yeah?" Genya peeked from the mound of pillows in surprise.

"Tell me how you guys met again." Sanemi snapped his fingers impatiently. “Get on with it, dumbass, I'm not gonna sit here all night listening to you moan about being a wimp.”

"We were at dad's funeral, remember? Her dad was his drinking buddy or something. I dropped the umbrella I was carrying and since it was raining it nearly blew off but she caught it-"

His mouth dropped open when Sanemi let out a loud groan and slapped the mattress. "What?"

"Genya. Funeral. Your mark is a coffin. You guys met at a funeral. You dropped your umbrella. She caught it for you. Her mark is an umbrella. Any bells RINGING YET, YOU GODDAMNED FOOL?"

Sanemi barely had time to shout after Genya with the speed he was barging out of the room and running off. "DON'T COME BACK UNTIL YOU GET HER, OR I'LL LOCK YOU OUT!”

It wasn't that hard to find her house, having been there so many times. Genya tore through the storm and down the streets like it was nothing but a leisurely walk in the park, barely avoiding slipping on the puddles, until he arrived in front of the garden you and him had spent so many days messing around in. She was standing so obviously, miserably in the pouring rain holding the umbrella like he did so many years ago, a quiet moment from the accepting facade she had thrown up before.

Something about just watching that made him regret every single dead he had had before. She was a beautiful, serene, sorrowful painting.

And he'd be a fool to auction such a treasure like that off.

He called her name, once, twice, panting and desperate.

She whipped around almost at once. "Who - Genya-kun? Genya-kun! You'll catch a cold!"

She rushed forward at once to cover his dripping wet self with her umbrella, concern written - scrawled - over her features.

"Doesn't matter - look - uh -" Genya faltered, then took a deep breath. "I said no because I was afraid you weren't my soulmate. Or if you were... let's just say my mark wasn't the most auspicious. I was...scared of what would happen, so it was worse."

"Is that - is that it? Genya-kun, I - I don't - you know I don't care - care about the marks -"

"No, listen, please. Then I talked it over with Aniki and he kinda made me realize some things."

"Oh - uh - yeah? What?"

Okay imagine this , as we all know Senjuro got this case of unable to use the Flame breathing technique passed down in their bloodline for generations to generations and no I don't think it's because he has no talent but rather maybe his just incapable of such breathing style that Senjuro wasn't made for .

If only Senjuro realised this I'd be thrilled to know what type of breathing suits him or incase he can't then he can use a gun like Genya but this will be only possible if Senjuro kept pursuing even stronger after Kyojuro died in the battle of Uppermoon 3 Akaza . Imagine after finding out what happened , Senjuro was driven by anger that he wasn't so used to and because of that he was driven to work harder and harder . Reading books here and there and training all on his own till he realized he created his breathing style deprived from flame breathing itself or if not he can use a gun . His only driven by revenge and anger that he wasn't used to , just like Shinobu . This way he can ask for guidance either from Uzui , Obanai or maybe Mitsuri too but it's kinda risky to imagine cuz he might have a possibility dying if Nakime witness Senjuro wearing a demon slayer corps uniform . Its a possibility that he can have very high chances of dying , I can imagine him if he did become a authorised demon slayer , then Nakime will place him to fight Akaza along with Giyuu and Tanjiro which is very risky for him . It could potentially kill him because even if he didn't die in the battle , Muzan could possibly finish him off but that's unless Shinjuro decides to interfere before everything happens and force Senjuro to quit the corps or make him give him up be it by words or physically harming Senjuro to give up .

✨My opinions on KNY ships✨

This is something no one asked for but anyways. (This included platonic and romantic ships, and I'm a multishipper) No hate please on some of my opinions and only the ships that I know will be mentioned and NO adult x minor or sibling x sibling.

Uzuren (Tengen x Kyojuro): I love these two as either platonic or romantic, I wrote a fanfic about these two that is over 80k words so it hold a special place in my heart. This ship was also the reason I got into demon slayer. (Yes I am aware of Tengen having three wives but their dynamic was appealing)

Obamitsu (Obanai x Mitsuri): I think these two are really nice. When I first started demon slayer I didn't hold strong opinions on them but I think they're very cute now and their ending was heart breaking😭

AmaKaga (Amane x Kagaya): I love these two, they're my favourite canon couple in the series and I'm so upset that they died but at least they died together and for a greater cause.

AoIno (Aoi x Inosuke): This ship seemed to come up out of nowhere for me, like they interact and some of it's funny but would've never seen these two as a couple. It's a ship I'm meh on.

Butterfly girls (platonic, Kanae, Shinobu, Kanao, Aoi): I love the found family bond they have and I want to know more about Kanae but over all any pairing out of these four is only seen as platonic for me.

ObaSane (Obanai & Sanemi): honestly these two just seem like friends to me, like two bestie that like to talk shit about others. I know these two gossip when they get the chance and they definitely talk shit about Giyuu.

RenGiyuu (Rengoku & Giyuu): I like their dynamic of being opposites, it's appealing to me but tend to see them more as friends than anything but still a decent ship.

RenMistu (Rengoku & Mitsuri): Love the sibling bond they have but not really into them being romantic with each other.

Rengoku x Obanai: I don't have mush thoughts on this, it's meh to me.

RenKaza (Rengoku & Akaza): I used to like this ship but now I find it really weird like I'm pretty sure Rengoku hates Akaza and Akaza literally killed Rengoku, so it's a no for me.

RenSane (Rengoku & Sanemi): When Rengoku was my favourite character (he's still in my top five) I shipped him with a lot of characters so that included this ship. I personally don't see now, looking back on it.

GenMui (Genya & Muichirou): I honestly have no idea how I got into this ship, for me I ship Genya and Muichirou romantically and platonically. They're both my favourite characters and I like their personalities and possibly the height difference and their fighting style and strength. I could go on and on, I like these two :) (please don't come after me because these two don't have many interactions)

TanKana (Tanjiro x Kanao): It's cute I think this is one of the few ships I like with Tanjiro, I don't know it sits better with me than some other ships.

MuiTan (Muichirou x Tanjiro): I can see where some people are coming from, Tanjiro is a very shippable character but personally I don't ship Muichirou with anyone other than Genya from occasion-to-occasion.

ZenNezu (Zenitsu x Nezuko): ehhhhh, I'm not a big fan of Zenitsu especially in the earlier seasons but he's kinda grown on me, I don't hate this ship but I also don't really like this ship.

InoZen (Inosuke x Zenitsu): not much feeling about this other than I think Zenitsu is very straight but that's just my opinion. :[

InoTan (Inosuke x Tanjiro): I kinda shipped it but I now see them as more of brothers than romantic partners.

InoTanZen (Inosuke x Tanjiro x Zenitsu): My found brothers pairing but honestly these three are chaotic and I love them but it's definitely platonic.

GenTan (Genya x Tanjiro): These two are my babies but it's more platonic than anything, I love how their friendship had developed over the series.

MuiNezu (Muichirou x Nezuko): Similar to MuiTan I only really ship Muichirou with Genya but this ship makes less sense to me than Muitan because Nezuko and Muichirou interact less Genya and Muichirou so the ship seems to be coming out of nowhere for me.

Sanemi & Genya: God their relationship breaks every time, I love both of them and I just want them to be happy and I tend to ignore canon when comes to the ending anyways.

SaneKana (Sanemi x Kanae): Some people will argue that this ship was partly canon but I don't care, it's cute the idea of it but it's not something I personally ship.

Sanegiyuu (Sanemi x Giyuu): I'll be honest I hated Sanegiyuu when I first started getting into demon slayer, it could've been because I didn't like either Sanemi or Giyuu and thought the ship was over down. I will say it has grown on me a lot still not in my top three but I don't hate it and can kinda see where people are coming from. (I have started a plan for a Sanegiyuu fic anyways).

Shinogiyuu (Shinobu x Giyuu): Similar to Sanegiyuu but I don't ship it.

Thinks how similar but different the way your and his hair color changed and thinks it’s so cool how it was from drinking so much tea and will tell you how his changed, hoping while doing so, you can trust him more

“Such pretty hair, s/o! You look so pretty and the blue really brings out your eyes!” He says in a chewy voice with pink cheeks.

Genya Shinazugawa

Your unique hair color caught his eye but wouldn’t talk to you because of his shyness, but when he does talk to you he can’t stop staring at your hair with red cheeks and gets even redder when you catch him staring

If you let him touch your hair, he’ll be apprehensive but would only very lightly touch it before stopping, he’s so red that you think he might combust and pass out right there

Looks at you in awe but in confusion when you tell him it became blue from drinking too much tea. He can’t help but wonders if he eats too many of one food then his hair would change color. And somewhat wants to try it out

“What, really? Does that mean eating too many oranges can change make my hair orange?”

Defends you with no hesitation, his hair style is a bit of an odd one so he gets it and will be there to comfort you if you want

Mitsuri Kanroji

Feels so happy and giddy knowing that she isn’t the only one with a unique hair color. She likes to joke that there would no be trouble finding each other because of the bright hair colors

Mitsuri thinks that your hair color is absolutely beautiful and will ask if she can braid it in exchange if you playing with hers. Mitsuri looks at your blue hair in awe and tells you what a beautiful shade of blue it is

Becomes very curious on how yours changed colors and will laugh when it turns out that it was just become you both loved eating/drinking something a little too much

“Hmm! I might have to try that tea if you loved drinking it so much that it changed your hair color!” You both laugh.

She’s been ridiculed for her hair color and would never want you to be made fun of the way she was

The demons I didn’t use would be younger or lower ranking slayers. Hantengu was previously the Rumble Hashira but is retired and has severe PTSD and anxiety, Urogi is working on developing Sound Breathing along with Nakime, and Zohakuten has only just passed Final Selection with his Serpent Breathing. They’re all brothers except for Hantengu who is their grandfather. Daki is Water Breathing I think but overall she’s a weak-ass slayer. Rui is Gyutaro’s tsuguko and Enmu is a Kakushi and he’s like totally delusional.

Instead of the Butterfly Mansion being the hospital, it’s Akaza’s Cloud Estate.

Genya is still a slayer and he’s sworn that he will kill Sanemi as both revenge for their family, whom Sanemi killed, as well as to just put Sanemi out of his misery. He also helps out at the Cloud Estate a lot, since Akaza doesn’t like getting help from people and takes on way too much at once.

Nezuko is a slayer and carries around a lil tiny demon Zenitsu on her back. Her brother, Tanjiro, was turned into a demon and he is very rapidly rising through the ranks of Moons. Nezuko is desperate to find a way to turn Tanjiro back and is helped by her friends Aoi and Murata.

Inosuke is a demon too, but he’s super isolated and very protective of his mountain territory.

Also Kyojuro was once a slayer himself but ended up becoming a demon. Not sure how yet. But there aren’t any flame breathers bc he became a demon before he could pass it on and he killed his brother and father as well.
