Jealousy meter☆(Hashiras ft. Kamaboko squad)
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Kyojuro Rengoku
█░░░░░░░░ 10%
He isn't jealous at all ! He trust you! But he doesn't trust others just as much.
He often worries whenever he sees someone making you uncomfortable. If the person make it obvious that they are hitting on you, he won't hesitate to hold your hand and get in front of the person to proudly claim you (and to make you feel better).
"Sorry but they're taken!"
Agatsuma Zenitsu
█████░░░░░50%
He is possessive from time to time.
Like he do trusts Tanjiro and most hashiras (surprisingly) but he tends to get pretty jealous at strangers. Whenever he sees you talking to one with a little too much closeness, he run to get next to you and to kiss you. It's like you two are fighting now.
"Sorry [Name] I just wanted to make sure that they got the hint."
"Zenitsu that's my cousin-"
"THEY ARE ?!"
Sanemi Shinazugawa
████████░░ 80%
Man he's jealous...
He would clearly tell anyone that he judges too close to you to fuck off. He doesn't wants to share you. Even if you tell him there is nothing to worry about. He accept when it's the hashiras except Giyuu. I guess he got something against him.
"Get lost, she's already mine fuckface."
Genya Shinazugawa
█████░░░░░ 50%
That's a 50/50. It actually depends.
He's actually more insecure about himself and that's what makes him doubt your love for him. When he sees you with someone else he usually goes full on koala mode and stay gripped to your arm.
"When are we going?"
Kanroji Mitsuri
██░░░░░░░░ 20%
She's not jealous. She's scared.
She's scared you'll find someone better and when she sees you with someone else a part of her always feel like she's not enough. You can easily see when she's feeling down, and you just have to remind her with a hug and she'll feel better.
"Sorry! I'm just scared you'll leave me"
Obanai Iguro
███████░░░ 70%
He pretty jealous
Most of the time he'll send Kaburamaru around your neck and people get the hint. But if they don't then...he'll go give them the hint himself. And by that I mean he would roast the shit outta them.
"Back off. Nobody would want to date your dirty goofy no bitches no purpose no friends no standards person."
Tanjiro Kamado
█░░░░░░░░░ 10%
He's never jealous.
If you think Kyojuro is kind then he's another level. He's like a ball of sunshine, he would talk happily not knowing that someone was hitting on you. But he does feels a little insecure when je sees you with someone else. He won't say it but he would cling onto you a little bit more.
"Do you love me?"
Himejima Gyomei
░░░░░░░░░░ 0%
He trusts you 100% and being a man of religion he has no doubt in your love. He does tho wonder if he could satisfy you enough since he's blind. He's just as capable as any men but he gets insecure from time to time due to his past.
"I promise I will try my best to protect you [name]"
Hashibira Inosuke
█████████░ 90%
He is easily jealous.
No matter who he sees with you he'll be growling at them. But he doesn't quite seems to understand love at all so he wouldn't be possessive but he still do get jealous and will NOT be ashamed of yelling at anyone.
"How dare you talk to the great Inosuke Hashibira's partner !"
Kocho Shinobu
█████░░░░░ 50%
She isn't JEALOUS, she's just overprotective.
She's more scared for your health than jealous. She's scared that you get too gullible and will fall for traps and/or get hurts by them. Poor her will try to prevent you from everyone and remind you of stranger danger.
"I do trust you [Name], but I think you're a little too innocent for your own good."
Tsuyuri Kanao
████░░░░░░ 40%
She's not really jealous.
She isn't jealous but she doesn't like seeing people hit on you. There was once you knew she was jealous because she looked at the person talking to you and she was STARING. The person got afraid and quickly apologized and left. She'll deny any accusation.
"I did not do that."
Tokito Muichiro
██████░░░░ 60%
He's easily bothered.
He would see you with someone he judges too close and full on hug your side and fix the person with that one glare. As if to brat about his partner and how lucky he is compared to the guy, he may even bite on your neck while the person's here. As soon as you're gone he would stay and probably roast that person.
"You look like you're a grand grandfather/mother if she/he didn't pass away."
Uzui Tengen
█░░░░░░░░░ 10%
He's chill
He got three wives already so he got used to this feeling. Now he actually feel proud when someone's hitting on you and will full on start talking about how amazing you are and how he's lucky to have you.
"Yes they're flashy ! I totally get why you like them, such a shame they're already taken by me."
Tomioka Giyu
███░░░░░░░ 30%
He can get jealous from time to time.
He doesn't talk a lot, and even less express his emotions. So it's a pain trying to figure out what's going on inside his head. However when he's jealous, he doesn't really tell you he just act like nothing's happening because he judges it negative to tell you about it. If you manage to find out then, congratulations you made a new step in your relationship!
"Oh.... I didn't know, sorry [Name]"
Kamado Nezuko
██░░░░░░░░ 20%
She's protective
Whenever she sees someone making you uncomfortable she'll come by your side to hug you and glare at the person when you're not looking. If the person doesn't get the hint she'll probably start growling at them. But overall, she's adorable and let anyone talk to you.
"Mmhp mhp mmph!" (I love you !)
Talk to me!

▵▿— Demon Slayer Hot Spring HC
Pairing: Swordsmith village arc characters - Tanjiro, Muichiro, Mitsuri, Genya, Nezuko x gn! Reader
Category: Fluff, light suggestive
Warning: Nudity, reader sneaking peaks at Mitsuri's... b a d o n k e r s
A/N: don't sneak peaks at people's boobs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tanjiro
Dang, now you know about my fantasies
Poor baby would be quite flustered seeing you in a hot spring
I can imagine you tracing the scar on his shoulder while he would be so flustered that he kept stammering and couldn't talk straight
You both would sit there and c h i l l with your head resting on his shoulder (of course after he had calmed down lol)
CUDDLES IN THE HOT SPRING YES
Imagine giving him a little wash in the hot spring *mentally squealing while writing this*
Definitely would share a towel with you after getting out of the hot spring
I want to see this in my dream tonight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Muichiro
Bet he would be spacing out in there BUT THAT’S SO CUTE
His hair is quite long, so it would be flowing around with the water, tempting you to play with it
Self-control… self-control…
You ended up playing with it.
But ok picture this, you were tenderly washing and untangling his hair. And because it felt so comforting to have you playing with his hair, Muichiro ended up falling asleep.
After he fell asleep you give him a gentle peck on the forehead then sat and leaned your head against him.
He then woke up to find you sound asleep.
Muichiro would carry you back to the house you were staying in in the swordsmith village and help you get cleaned up.
Aaaaand you would wake up realising you were in Muichiro’s bed with him cuddling you from behind :)
I wanna play with his hair so badly >:O
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mitsuri
Let’s all be real here, you both would be flustered seeing each other in the hot spring.
“KYAAAAAAAAAAH! It’s our first time soaking in a hot spring together! Isn’t this exciting??!”
You both would be chatting endlessly the whole time while you were soaking.
While Mitsuri was ranting about food or cats, your eyes would dart between her fern green eyes and her b a d o n k e r s I know you would you little perverts
Yea there were definitely a ton lot of ranting about random things.
After having a nice long relaxing soak in the hot spring, you and Mitsuri would have a nice meal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Genya
The poor boy would be painted red all over and be frozen in place as soon as you showed up.
You would be talking to him, asking how his day was, or whether he ate dinner already. But he would be too flustered to even open his mouth and talk to you.
You being intimate with him obviously did not help.
Tracing the scars that decorated his body is a must.
Throughout the whole time you both were soaking, the only thing anyone could hear was you happily ranting about random stuff, like what you wanted to eat for dinner.
After soaking, you would help Genya clean up. Because, well, the whole time Genya is too flustered to do anything.
Since he doesn’t usually go eat with everybody else during dinner, you would eat with him in his room.
You like seeing his soft side don’t you :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nezuko-chan
Nezuko is a fun and happy little girl, so I for sure know you both would be playing around in the hot spring
The both of you would splash water at each other, chase each other around the hot spring etc.
You would be playing with Nezuko like an elder sibling
Speaking of siblings, bring big brother Tanjiro too next time, Nezuko would be overjoyed to soak with her favourite two people in the world
I can imagine you giving her cute little pecks on the forehead
You would help Nezuko clean up and hold her hand as you both went to eat dinner with Tanjiro and Mitsuri afterwards :)
Tumblr media
looking for the right photos was the most painful process of this fanfic

🌸 Tanjiro Relationship Hcs 🌸
Tumblr media
• Tanjiro has probably not had a romantic relationship before you.
• So it may or may not take him a while to realize his feelings for you. Just be patient with him. Okay?
• At first, before developing romantic feelings for you, I think he’d see you as one of his younger siblings or family members
• After he realizes his romantic feelings for you, he’d easily get flustered and often tongue tied around you or even the mention of you.
• Once he is one hundred percent certain of his romantic feelings for you, a wave of worry washes over him that he might embarrass himself in front of you or do something that will make you uninterested in him.
• It takes him a while to speak to you about his feelings. Depending how intimidating you are but regarding that, he would eventually muster up the courage to tell you his feelings.
• If you accepted and shared his feelings, he would be overjoyed! He would also promise to treat you like Royalty.
• He'd love to cuddle with you, in fact he just loves being around you in general!
• Your looks, personality, and even your scent fill him with a sense of passion and joy towards you.
• He prefers to be held in your arms while laying against your chest and taking in your scent. It’s calming to him.
• Those small moments also make him fall in love with you all over again.
• But he’d also like to hold you in his arms. Feeling you nuzzle into him, as you slowly drift off to sleep in his arms.
• Tanjiro is pretty inexperienced with romantic relationships. So even things as simple as kissing will fluster him at first before getting used to it.
• Tanjiro would always ask for your permission before kissing you or even cuddling you.
• At least, for the first few weeks of the relationship.
• He’d also ask you for such things as well.
• ‘’S/o I… I love you a lot! Can I have a kiss please?’’
• Nezuko loves you too (in a platonic way)
• I love him so much, he’s so precious 😭😭😭

𝐤𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐤𝐨 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐝’𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐞
Tumblr media
ft: tanjiro kamado, (platonic) nezuko kamado, zenitsu agatsuma, inosuke hashibira, kanao tsuyuri, genya shinazugawa
So sorry Kanao is short I had no ideas for her 😓
Tumblr media
# tanjiro ! ☆
giving: words of affirmations
TANJIRO, who can’t help but compliment you nearly every time he sees you. It’s almost an instinct as his mind has almost trained itself to do it by command. He can’t help but notice even the smallest change in your daily look and create some sort of compliment out of it. He finds it more meaningful to put his love into words and to really show you how much he loves and treasures you.
receiving: quality time
He enjoys just being in each other presence. Whether you both are doing things together, or your doing completely separate task. Tanjiro is perfectly content with just embracing your presence. He enjoys when he you come to him after seeming out his presence just so the two of you can enjoy anything, together.
# nezuko ! ☆
giving: acts of service
While she can’t use her voice to express herself, NEZUKO prefers to use actions. She enjoys helping out others, especially you with anything. Whether your lifting a box somewhere or your setting up a table for dinner, nezuko will be on standby to try and help you. She’ll fight by your side to protect you as she’s seen you do the same for her.
receiving: physical touch
Nezuko likes spending time with you, as well as doing things with you! She treasures when you braid through her hair or even help her with an injury despite her being able to heal herself. She likes being close to you, seeing you as a more parental figure in her life. When she’s able to come out of her box when the sun sets, her first task once she sees you is to swoop in for a hug.
# zenitsu ! ☆
giving: physical touch
ZENITSU, not surprisingly thrives off of physical touch. Every time he lays eyes on you, he’ll run while chanting your name to swoop in and give you as right off a hug as he can. Any type of affection in a physical form is something he can and will do, whether it’s a sweet hug before bed or pestering you and poking you while your trying to train. Zenitsu will find a way to do it!
receiving: words of affirmation
The boy’s self esteem issues shouldn’t be as high as they are. So any time of comforting and reassuring words are sure to make him melt. He can’t keep his composure hearing you chant praises while he’s training leading to multiple accidental injuries. Other times he’s almost brought to tears in privacy as you can mutter compassionate words to make sure he feels only the best about himself.
# inosuke ! ☆
giving: physical touch
Being one of the only proper ways he knows how to show affection. INOSUKE will be sure to bother you with any stunt he can pull. Wrapping his arms around you neck while he laughs about anything, or ruffling your hair in a playful manor when your around. Growing up in the woods didn’t really teach him any proper forms of love at all..
receiving: words of affirmation
Any praises that come from your mouth are sure to hype him up for anything that he’s facing. Considering his whole ‘king of the mountains’ dynamic this sure fuels his ego into becoming an even better slayer. What he doesn’t realize is how much your words stick to him. As in the depths of the night his minds trace back to your words and he finds himself asking why your words made his heart flutter in ways he’s never felt.
# kanao ! ☆
giving and receiving: quality time
KANAO loves and embraces being in the presence of each other. Whether your seeking out her, or she’s seeking out you. Being in each other presence is something sacred that she treasures. Similar to Tanjiro, she doesn’t mind what your doing when your alongside each other. You could both bring in a comfortable silence doing completely separate things and she’ll still believe it’s a moment well spent with you.
# genya ! ☆
giving: acts of service
Poor sweet GENYA who’s to embarrassed to put his love into words that he does it best with actions. He tries to help you out with anything you really do it could be the smallest task and Genya will still insist for him to help you. He wants to show you he cares for you, and taking all the task your responsible with so you can relax for yourself is his go to way to show you.
receiving: words of affirmation
Your words fluster him but he treasures what you say dearly. He’s constantly ashamed of himself for what he does and for his choices from the past, so any reassuring words will lead straight to his heart. He’s been flustered just by hearing you compliment him more then he admits, your words of praise and confirmation that you love him for who he is rings in his ear at dusk. He just can’t help but fall in love even more.

I'LL SEE YOU WHEN I FALL ASLEEP. — The Tokito family's oldest child returns home.
Tumblr media
— trigger & content warnings. contains spoilers for the infinity castle arc & takes place around/after the end of the manga, major character death, grief, self-hatred, survivor's guilt, etc.
— pairings & notes. hurt/comfort. kamado tanjiro, kamado nezuko & reader, but the fic is still muichiro-centric. reader is 16 and is gender neutral (they/them pronouns used). reader was a demon slayer. reader is muichiro and yuichiro's older sibling. 3.1k words.
— author's thoughts. suffer, manga readers :) anyways why are there so few platonic fics about mui and yui??? they are literally my sons. please. begging the kny community to write more platonic content about them sobs weeps cries /lh
Tumblr media
Morning sunlight kisses their skin tenderly, caressing their face with its reassuring touch, but it does nothing to soothe the dull ache in their chest.
In the absence of all else, that dull ache perpetually remains—a constant, ringing reminder of their utter failures as a person. Of their failures as their family's oldest child. When they feel nothing, when all of their tears have run dry and left them with vacant emptiness, that dull ache remains still. When the tears fall endlessly, ever continuing regardless of how many times they try to dry their face, it remains still.
Inconsolable, that is what they were. Wholly and truly inconsolable.
'It wasn't your fault,' Tanjiro would insist over and over, because he knows not what other words he can say to them, because he knows what it is like. What else could he possibly say to ease their grief? He hasn't the slightest idea, because really... there is nothing. Nothing to say, nothing to do, other than sit beside them and let the grief come and go as it does—it is a nonlinear thing, grief. Tanjiro knows the process all too well. It will get better and then worse, before repeating the cycle again and again. He knows there is nothing he can do other than hold their hand throughout it all. There is no getting rid of the pain before it heals on its own time, so the words he chooses are 'You will feel okay one day.'
'They wouldn't want you to linger on it,' Nezuko would say, but she also knew not what to tell them. She, much like her older brother, is not unfamiliar with the guilt they felt for simply being alive. She knows that feeling all too well. She does not recall much from her time as a demon—she has explained that those memories are more like a distant dream, something she cannot quite touch and can only catch brief glimpses of, rather than actual memories she can recall at will. Despite that, she knows it hurt when she discovered herself to be the only one who survived that day. It still hurts. Less, but it does. She knows not what to say to them, but she knows that time heals, so the words she chooses are 'You will feel okay one day.'
Dew clings to the grass and leaves. The dirt squishes beneath their steps. A thin fog (a mist, they dare think, but the fleeting thought makes their stomach drop, so they do their best to rid their mind of it) has settled just above ground level, and they absently wonder if it rained the night before; it must have. They hadn't noticed.
It would be borderline impossible to, with the night they had. Being perceptive of and attentive to minute details such as whether or not it had rained a few hours prior was not in the forefront of their dazed mind at the moment.
(They did not sleep well, thoughts too preoccupied with the memories of what once was, of what could have still been.
...But the reality they dreamed of was not theirs, because they failed. They curse the world for plaguing them with such dreams—it was as if they were forced to peek into another universe, where they are happier now, helpless to snap their gaze away until whatever being tormenting them decided they had suffered enough. A punishment, that's what it was. A vile, awful, enraging punishment. Haven't they suffered enough?
Though, maybe they should at least be happy for them in that alternate universe. At least they're happy somewhere.
The thought is both comforting and devastating. Maybe if they hadn't been such a useless older sibling, they would be that joyful, too.)
The trek up the mountain was not nearly long enough; they hardly had any time at all to gather their thoughts, to swallow back the growing lump in their throat, before a vacant home entered their vision. It has been vacant for quite some time now, but the sting of what happened there almost three years ago feels exceptionally fresh, knowing that the twin who survived that event was also long gone now. The slightly chilly breeze stirs around them, swirling a few green and brown leaves that their trees had begun to shed. It welcomes them home, brushing across their skin and causing goosebumps to raise, beckoning them closer.
       Fall will arrive soon.
...It has been some time since the nights have become safer to travel through. For the first time in thousands of years, demons were not a concern; the concerns now were more mundane. Animals, other humans, tripping over a tree root hidden by the darkness and getting wounded... yes, it has been quite some time since demons became a threat of the past. A few months, at the very least, but the pain of loss has grown no easier to bear. If anything, it has dug its vicious claws into their aching chest even further, threatening to tear open their ribcage and rip their bruised heart out at any moment.
It wouldn't be anything they didn't deserve, if that were to happen. It would be better that way.
...Tanjiro would tell them off for thinking like that, in the nicest and gentlest words he could manage. Their brothers would, too. Though, they're relatively certain that both of their brothers would use much harsher words. The thought might've made them laugh under another circumstance.
Even if they wanted everything to end already, they had no choice but to live, despite how much it pained them to do so. Maybe, just maybe, there will come a day in which living no longer feels like a knife to the chest.
That's something to look forward to. The day when their heart will not stutter when they see this vacant house. The day where they will not think 'It should have been me.'
Much to their surprise, there was no moss climbing up the headstones situated at the side of the house, and the grass was neatly tamed.
Someone had been here recently, then.
Sanemi? Giyuu? Perhaps Kanamori or Kotetsu. All options were equally likely; Sanemi, who they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt understood how they felt. Giyuu, who routinely paid respects to his fellow Hashira that fell in battle. Kanamori and Kotetsu, who may very well have died if not for their youngest brother's intervention back in the Swordsmith Village. They weren't quite sure who had been here (maybe they would ask around later, if for no other reason but to thank that person or those people), but... the gesture sent a wave of fresh tears to their eyes.
They hesitate, frozen in place. Shaking hands rise to their chest, clasped together in a poor attempt to put an end the trembling, and they briefly consider leaving.
It would be rude, though. To make the trek all the way up the mountain, to trick their beloved little brothers into thinking they were visiting, just to leave. They were never that cruel. Grief would not become their excuse for ignoring their brothers... or what was left of them, anyway.
Ginko sits on their shoulder. She has grown quieter than the used to be, and they know the loss has also impacted her. Still, she isn't completely placated, and she grumbles, "Are you just going to stand here like an idiot?"
"You've got working wings," they retort. "Go first, if you're so impatient."
She huffs, batting her comedically long eyelashes as she turns her little head away from them petulantly. She does not leave their shoulder. Ginko has never been nice or pleasant—she was only ever nice to Muichiro, really. Everyone else, including them, would shown get her nastier side. Spoiled princess are the words they would use to describe her, personally... but she isn't heartless. She does not dare move forward before they do.
(They know she isn't heartless. They still sometimes think about how weak and sick she became after the tragedy, and really, they were no better. She had slept by their side for weeks. Whether to keep them or herself company, they did not know, nor did they really care. She was their closest companion for the first few weeks, when they were too tired and absentminded to bother seeking anyone else out.
What an odd situation to have been in, where their best company was the bratty crow that used to deliver their brother's mission assignments. It feels unreal to think about, but it is the truth.)
Steeling their resolve, they move forward.
In front of the four grave markers, they kneel, paying no mind to the wet dirt and cool grass sticking to their clothes. If anything, the cold is welcomed. Their flesh burns hot with the weight of their grief. The cold touch feels forgiving, welcoming. Ginko stretches her wings and delicately glides over to perch on top of her former master's headstone.
Between the middle two stones sits their blade, sunk deep into the dirt, never to be touched again. Vines have begun ascending the half that still stuck out of the ground. It would be difficult to get it out, they think. Good. There it shall remain, never to be used again, a monument honoring their family and the sacrifices made to protect the world when the world never knew it was in danger in the first place.
They sit like that in silence for a moment, a chill ascending their spine as the cool morning wind kissed the crown of their head and brushed through their hair.
       A moment passes. Then another.
       And finally, they manage something:
"Hi," they say, voice coming out unsurprisingly meek and quiet. They're sure that if they tried to speak any louder, any clearer, their voice would crack and break. "Mama, papa, Yuichiro, Muichiro... I'm home. Again." It is at this point that their tone wavers somewhat. Their hands, now situated in their lap, immediately latch onto one another again in an attempt to steady themselves somehow. "Um, Tanjiro and Nezuko are here too. Or they will be. They just wanted to give me space first."
Muichiro would be excited to see the two, they think. He always got along particularly well with Tanjiro, and Nezuko was the kind of child who had a very kind demeanor about her, so most people grew to like her even when she was a demon.
They're hardly aware of the stinging in their eyes—it's a feeling they've grown very used to, as if it was their most natural state of being. It may as well have been. It's what they had become accustomed to feeling in the past months; it was either that, or a dreadful emptiness that made their entire body feel weightless, as if they barely existed.
It was always too little or too much.
When would they be able to come here without crying?
"I'm sorry," they choke out, folding in on themselves. Locks of their hair fall forward, forming a curtain around their face that hides their pitifully broken expression from prying eyes, and their forehead ever so slightly comes into contact with the damp dirt below. "I'm so— I'm so sorry," they weep, "I should have done more. It should— should be me buried, n— not you, not any of you—"
There is a dagger stuck inches deep in their gut. It feels as if someone has twisted it, now, because as they speak through their cries, they remember that Muichiro was never buried. His body was never recovered. It only makes the hot tears stinging their cheeks pour out with more force.
Buried in the spot the grave marked were only some of his personal belongings along with things he was known to like.
There was nothing they could have possibly done to change what happened to their parents; it was just a stroke of terrible luck for the both of them that would not have been changed regardless of what they did differently, but in a hysterical state, there is no room for nuance. Grief blends together, and they can't think clearly enough to verbally distinguish between if they meant 'It should have been me' in reference the twins or for their parents.
The answer was clear nonetheless. It hung in the air, ever present.
It should have been them instead of Yuichiro that day.
It should have been them instead of Muichiro that day.
Would either of those outcomes have changed anything?
If it had been them dying in Yuichiro's place, what would have happened that night in the Infinity Castle? Would both twins have died regardless, making their sacrifice utterly meaningless? Would only one have died, leaving the other to exist completely and entirely alone in the world? If they had died in Muichiro's place, would he be the one knelt before their grave, wishing it'd been him instead?
How selfish of them to wish it had been them instead.
How selfish of them to want their brothers to hurt like this instead of them.
...But they know that isn't what they're trying to imply. No, they would rather suffer this pain a million times over to spare their siblings the pain of having to feel it even once.
What they wanted was to give even one of the twins a chance to live past twelve or fourteen; both died far too young, meanwhile they lived on. They had turned sixteen recently (or was it a while ago? They were uncertain; the days, weeks, and months had all blended together in a blur of agony). They had no choice but to keep living, to keep aging, when it should be their little brothers instead of them living on and growing up together.
A soft hand on their shoulder causes their breath to hitch, and they adjust, peering upwards.
       Tanjiro is there now.
He's crouching down, fingers softly kneading their shoulder. When he sees that they're looking at them, his half-blind gaze softens, and he smiles.
       It makes their heart ache.
"It's okay," he whispers, and they are suddenly hyper-aware of the gloss over his eyes. He must have heard them. 'Don't cry for me,' they want to say, but the words don't come out, and they know he would cry for them regardless of if they told him not to. "It's going to be okay one day."
Ginko glares at him a bit. It's her least favorite rhetoric to hear—'It's okay.' She doesn't say anything, though. because he is not saying it to her, and if it comforts them even the slightest bit... well, she supposes she can tolerate it.
A stifled whine manages to shove its way past their barely parted lips. They squeeze their eyes shut, hoping to stop the tears.
It doesn't work, of course, and they can only break out into another sob.
The boy's gaze is warm, too warm—it looks too much like their father's.
Tanjiro, ever the patient and kindly person that he was, sits there with them until their tears run dry. They want to cry more. They want to curl up into a ball and let the Earth take their body so that the pain would finally cease.
They cannot, however. Their only choice is to sit up and continue forward, one day at a time.
Straightening their spine, they sit up, turning fully to Tanjiro with tired eyes.
       "Do you feel better?"
       "No."
He reaches out and squeezes one of their hands, face twisted in empathy. He doesn't seem to care about the dirt that has clung onto their palms. In silence, with only Tanjiro and Ginko at their side (more or less; the crow has yet to move from Muichiro's headstone, but her presence is enough for them), they sit.
It's a few moments later that they register the sound of dirt squishing under someone's steps, and they turn their head.
It's Nezuko. In her hands is a small basket.
"I'm here," she says with a kind smile. She looks like her brother when she smiles like that, they think. Her gaze is just as warm as Tanjiro's is when her eyes land on them. "I brought rice balls and paper."
       ...Rice balls. She brought food.
Nezuko was always adamant on pestering them about self-care in the first few weeks following Muichiro's death. 'He wouldn't want you to destroy yourself like this,' she had said at one point, a stern glare fixed on her face. 'Your brother being gone now is no excuse to neglect your health. Please eat, [Name], if not for him or for yourself, then for me. For Tanjiro. For everyone living who still loves you and worries about you.'
Her tender, worried attentiveness almost makes them want to cry again, but they have no tears left to give
On the rare occasion where they would not listen to her, she would get Sanemi, who would threaten to kick their ass if they didn't get themselves together. The threat of being beat up by the former Wind Hashira was usually enough to convince them, but they doubt that he ever would have actually done it—Shinazugawa Sanemi is many things. He is not a hypocrite when it comes to the matters of being the eldest sibling... not anymore, anyway. He was once, but he is not now. The grief he carries resonates deeply with theirs, and he was not taking particularly good care of himself, either.
They should probably visit him one of these days. He might be in need of the company, though he would never say that out loud.
"Paper?" they wonder quietly, hoarsely, head tilting to the side inquisitively. Neither sibling seems to mind the scratchiness of their voice. "
Tanjiro's face then brightens. "Want to see who can throw a paper airplane the farthest out of the three of us?"
       Oh. Oh.
"...I'm going to absolutely annihilate you both at that." Something stirs in their chest. For the first time in a while, the dullness fades somewhat, and there's a thrilling edge taking its place. Their eyes shift between the Kamado siblings. "I'm the one who taught Mui how to get so good at it. You don't stand a chance. You do realize that, right?"
       He grins. "We'll see!"
For the first time in months, they feel something other than void emptiness or overwhelming grief.
The wind rustles around them again, and they like to think that Muichiro is there, cheering them on from where they cannot see or hear him.
...But they do feel him, and that is enough for now.

I just came back from roller skating as im writing this 😋😋 black!gender neutral reader & modern times🤞🏾
Going roller skating with them!
🍓 Requested? : Nope.
🍓 Type? : Headcanon-ish & Fluff.
🍓 Total word count? : 824
🍓 Including : Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Nezuko, & Inosuke.
Tumblr media
Tanjiro
Being so for real with yall I think tanjiro can skate... Like real bad. I'm talking tricks n everything.
When you first took him to skate you thought he just knew the basics. Yet when you got to the rink he was already making his way on it. You grabbed your skates and turned around to see that he's the first one on the rink and already doing warmup laps.
As you got on the rink, you were a little surprised at the fact that he was first. But once the local old heads you usually hang with came through, they immediately gravitated towards Tanjiro, so you knew something was up.
You left him alone with them for a moment to get drinks for yourselves, but once you came back, he over here skating backward and doing spins. 😭🙏🏾 when he looks over and notices that you're back, he just smiles n waves.
After he finished up showing out to the old heads, he skates over to you n holds your hand for the rest of the time yall are there. (he felt bad for leaving you alone)
long story short, he's not one to show out, but if someone asks him to, he will.
Tumblr media
Zenitsu
I'm gonna be fair, Zenitsu is okay-ish at skating... Like he can skate in a straight line, but that's bout it. 💀
When you tried to teach him how to turn properly, dawg kept running into walls. But other than that... best believe you are not gonna see anything special out of him.
The first time you ever took him skating, he thought it wouldn't be that hard. So this lead to him being overly confident while walking towards the rink, but once he got on it n started falling down, the tears came...immediately humbled.
You tried to guide him yourself by holding his hand, but every time he lost his balance n fell, you went down with him. After that, you bought him one of the trainers to lean on instead of you.
You were still behind him every now n then makin sure he didn't fall backward but buying that trainer was a good decision on your part.
Even after all that, it paid off. He can officially turn corners by himself now. Congrats! Even if it paid off, you still felt a little bad after seeing all those tears, so lunch was on you that day.
Tumblr media
Nezuko
When you first asked her, she was excited. Learning how to skate has actually been something she's been wanting to do.
So obviously she doesn't know how to skate but as you teach her you realize very quickly that she's a fast learner ! You asked if she wanted a trainer to help, but she shook her head n wanted to hold your hand, trusting you more.
It took about three laps around the rink for her to gain the confidence to let go of your hand.
Still being behind her in case anything happened, she did a good job going around the rink by herself! She even decided to speed up while doing a few laps around the rink.
She even cut in front of a few skaters while finishing and making her way back over to you.
Yet, in the end, she still prefers to hold your hand and skate around together. 🫶🏾
Tumblr media
Inosuke
Inosuke is pretty good at skating, at some point wanting to be on a roller derby team... The first time you brought him to your local rink, he wasn't ready for the mood to be so laid back.
He's been skating before, but it was much more fast-paced , so seeing the people around him sync together and just naturally gravitate towards each other made him slow down...for about five seconds.
Inosuke is inoskue dawg. He is NOT slowing down anytime soon 💀🙏🏾
When he saw people already smoothly picking up their pace, he almost threw himself into that rink. You had to lock your arm with his so you could at least get one lap around the rink with him.
This man still RESTRAINED. himself from breaking free from your grip and zooming around the rink.
As you finished your single lap together, you noticed his change in demeanor.
You waited till the music changed to a faster paced song and patted him on the shoulder to give him the okay. That way, he didn't disrupt the peace too much.
For about the third time he raced around the rink, he decided to pull you along with him. Mind you, he's going like 50 miles per hour around this rink, in the process almost running over some little kids that are trying to practice 😭
Since he was going so fast, he was basically just pulling you behind him, making you almost fall twice n almost making you run into all the walls.
Even after all that, you both still enjoyed yourselves... somehow.
Tumblr media
Alright that's it gang, I had fun writing this!! :3 Lemme know if yall might want one with the hashiras. I already have an ideas for tengen, shinobu, n giyuu 😋

Maybe making a bento for the kamaboko squad?
Anon (´∀`•) This was such a nice request to receive! It just instantly sent my head into fluffy territory and it was just a pleasure to write.
It also made me want to make a bento?
if you have any other requests like this one - or literally any other type of request - then please send it in because your more than welcome too <3
Making a Bento for the Kamaboko Squad!:
Tumblr media
Tanjirou Kamado:
Ok, first off! Tanjirou would literally eat anything and everything you made him - seriously, head AND stomach of steel
Obviously if you took the time to make it all pretty and presentable he would look it in awe and eat it slowly to properly savoir the presentation and flavoring
Loves it when you pack him all the home cooked meals
He's happy with food that were left over from breakfast or dinner from yesterday - so long as its something you've made
Enjoys your Miso Yaki Onigiri with Honey Soy Chicken with a side of cherry tomatoes + sauteed cabbage
Anything yummy makes him happy - well... anything that you've put time and effort in is always gonna make him happy
Wouldn't say he has a big sweet tooth but he really can't turn down your desserts - especially if freshly made!
Particularly loves your Matcha Marble Pound Cake
If you ask him, Tanjirou will help you make your's and his bento's
Nezuko Kamado:
Nezuko loves your bento's
She loves the bright colours of the food that you use - it always makes her happy to see that you've added something into the rice to make it slightly pink
Nezuko also has a soft spot for sweet things so when you add extra Tamagoyaki (sweetened omelette) from breakfast to her bento it adds a little pep in her step
She really loves forward to the bento's you make during cherry blossom season cause everything is cherry blossomed themed - lots of cherry blossom themed desserts too! e.g. Cherry Blossom milk pudding
Oh! Enjoys abit of Sweet and Sour in her bento - specifically when you use the lefter overs from your sweet and sour chicken + vegetables with steamed rice
Sweet and Sour Chicken with Japanese Potato Salad and steamed rice with sesame seeds and umeboshi (pickled plum) + cherry tomatoes
Will absolutely help you make the bento's
Inosuke Hashibira:
He's still getting used to receiving a packed bento - Inosuke was really confused when you first gave him one
Doesn't see the point of all the pretty food shapes and colours to begin with but he does secretly enjoy it when you shape and do all that stuff with his food - it just helps prove that you love him cause your making him food and making it into things he likes
Cackles when he opens his bento up and there's onigiri shaped like boars + pigs
Will eat anything that's smothered in teriyaki sauce or tempure-d
Absolutely adores sweet potato pie and will eat an entire one to himself.... - its safe to say that you put at least a couple of slices in his bento when you make a pie to hold him off
To give him his vitamins in the form of fruits, other than berries, you usually pack him a Fruit Sandwich/Fruit Sando - a taste sweet dessert in sandwich form that consists of sweet milk bread, fresh whipped cream with strawberries, kiwi and orange - which you usually have to give him extra as he scoffs down the first one
don't ask him to help make the bento's.....he'll eat everything as your preparing them...
Zenitsu Agatsuma:
Absolutely sobs when you give him a bento.... actually that happens every single time you make him a bento
Enjoys literally all of your food
Will absolutely sob while eating it...
Really enjoy when you use ginger and honey in the foods
Has a softspot for your Ginger Pork Onigirazu
Although he really loves when you pack Nikujaga (Meat and Potato Stew) with Shirataki Noodles with a side of Miso eggplant in his bento
Loves all the desserts/sweet things that you pack him
Doesn't matter what type of dessert - cake, mochi, crepe, etc. - its going into his stomach
although if he had to pick a favourite, it would have to be your Warabi Mochi
You can ask him to help prepare the bento's but he will add more stuff than needed or add the wrong decorations and/or seasonings

Tumblr media
n. kamado
“nezuko, if i eat myself, will i get twice as big or disappear completely?”
“😰… don’t eat yourself please.”
t. kamado
“‘jiro, if a turtle lost its shell, would it be homeless or naked”
would look at you, furrowed brows as he tries to comprehend what you said
if it finally sinked in he would also be curious
and he will start asking that question to anyone he knows
“shinobu-san i have a question-“
“i don’t know if they are homeless or naked, tanjiro☺️💢”
i. hashibira
“what is the difference between a ghost and a spirit, ino?”
“a ghost is a ghost and a spirit is a spirit”
“no but-“
“ghost = ghost, spirit = spirit, what do you not get about that”
he will insist that a ghost is a ghost and a spirit is a spirit
z. agatsuma
“if your girlfriend was a florist and chocolate didn’t exist, what would you buy her to say you’re sorry?”
“food..?”
he knows because food is good🤝
k. tsuyuri

she’ll blink at you and say
“is that an insult to me?”
g. shinazugawa
“genya, if prunes are dried plums, where do they get prune juice from?”
would have a open mouth confuse face
“prunes are dried plums??? i thought it was raisins”
“no raisins are dried grapes”
“oh… but why are they’re dried? do they not taste good when they’re not dried? and who thought of drying them”
now he’s confuse of his questions
and you’re confuse because of your question and his question

If they were your best friend
AN: This headcanon wasn't a request, but one that I thought of doing myself, but you can ask for one if you want! <3
Synopsis: You, Y/n, are this character's best friend, what would that be like?
Characters: Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, Nezuko Kamado, Genya Shinazugawa, Kanao Tsuyuri and Aoi Kanzaki x Fem! Reader
Warnings: None (?), Fluffy, Not Romantic, Modern! AU
Tanjiro Kamado
— He's nice to most people, that's a fact, but he's even nicer to the people he cares about.
— Tanjiro is happy to see you playing with your younger brothers, he thinks it's the cutest thing in the world when you do Hanako and Nezuko's hair or play board games with Kanata.
— He helps you study, this boy is really smart and knows how to explain well. You are in good hands.
— He is very happy when you help him cook, and if you can't make some part of the recipe he will help you.
— He'll want you to meet his friends, and he'd be happy to see you getting along with them.
— He cares about your well being and feelings, and is always there if you need comfort, this boy is just an angel <3
Zenitsu Agatsuma
— Yes, he is scared and whiny, but he is a loyal friend and loves you <3
— He's smart, but not very good at explaining. He tries his best, but always ends up fumbling a little.
— Very, very affectionate. Zenitsu will hug you whenever he can, he will always walk close to you. You are his best friend after all.
— When he gets sad or scared, Zenitsu will come to you looking for comfort.
— He doesn't much like how Inosuke acts impolitely, and is jealous of Tanjiro and his far too kind treatment of you.
— He is capable of facing his fears for you. As his best friend, you have a special place in his heart.
Inosuke Hashibira
— He is certainly the most restless among you, regardless of whether you are a quiet person or not.
— Always gets you into trouble, which has gotten you a fair amount of scolding.
— Sometimes it ends up being a little impolite, but don't get so mad. He has some difficulty expressing how he feels.
— He'll take you to meet his friends, even if he creates some competitions to get your attention.
— It's not a good help to study, please, if you want some help ask someone else.
— Inosuke is someone fussy and quarrelsome, but a really loyal friend who will be there for you in most situations <3
Nezuko Kamado
— Usually likes your help cooking, whether it's something for an outing or just snacks for the afternoon.
— She is affectionate, she likes to hug you and comb your hair. She always asks Hanako to join in when you're at her house.
— Smart, but not very good at explaining. She can help you understand something when she tries hard.
— She is not a very agitated person, so the girl usually prefers to just talk or play with you.
— Nezuko is sleepy, especially after expending energy, so you end up being the girl's “private pillow” most of the time.
— She's calm, sleepy and all, but can be someone really excited when it comes to making you happy or just being around you <3
Genya Shinazugawa
— The entire Kimetsu Academy wonders how you can be best friends with someone as scary as Genya, but little do they know that the boy is a sweetheart <3
— Even with a frown on his face 90% of the time, Shinazugawa is a true angel to you and always shows his gentler side.
— He is not a genius in subjects that require calculations, like mathematics, but he does his best to be able to help you!
— Sanemi knows you, and even though he is the way he is, he's happy inside that his little brother has a friend.
— The kind of friend who is always there for you, ready to cheer you up in happy times or comfort you in sad ones.
— He introduced you to the Kamaboko Squad, first to Tanjiro because he knew the boy would be kind to you.
Kanao Tsuyuri
— Quiet, very quiet, but she tries to be more open with you and her sisters.
— She's good with botany, and she'll help you plant and care for the flowers if you like it too.
— Tsuyuri really prefers to stay at home, reading a book that interests both of them or watching a movie.
— She's very smart, but average when it comes to explaining, so she ends up asking a few questions.
— She's already introduced you to her friends, although she still feels much more at home when she's with you.
— Kanao is not the best person when it comes to comforting with words or communicating in general, but for you she tries <3
Aoi Kanzaki
— She is certainly the most responsible among you, acting almost like a big sister.
— Intelligent but without much patience to explain, although it is a help.
— The kind of friend who is concerned about your well-being, always ready to give you a hug or a scolding.
— She introduced you to her friends, and she is happy inside to see you talking and having fun with them.
— Not fond of affection, but she makes an exception for you when you're alone.
— A very kind friend in her own way, taking care of you like a sister, showing her more loving side to you always <3
AN: I hope you enjoyed this post, until next time! <3

Hi, can you do demon slayer girls when reader is just working out and demon slayer girls just stare at their boobs. And when reader finds out they straight lie, they say something like 'I was just making sure you wouldn't fall, I wasn't staring there' or they would just be honest and out and out say something like'Sorry but your boobs look really nice'
Also I love your writing <3
What Are You Looking At?
Pairing: Fem Demon Slayer characters – Nezuko-chan, Mitsuri, Shinobu, Tamayo, Daki x f! Reader
Category: Fluff, slightly suggestive
Warning: Nudity because of the b a d o n k s, small and tiny bits of manga spoilers (and swordsmith village arc if you’re stupid enough to have not finished watching that already)
Summary: When they got caught staring at your boobs while you work out
A/N: *inhales* WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT NOT LOOKING AT PEOPLE’S BADONKERS
Anyways thank youuu <33
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nezuko-chan
Ever since Nezuko conquered the sun, she was required to stay at the Butterfly Mansion for the safety of herself and basically the whole of humanity. On one hand, she got a bit upset since she couldn’t accompany her brother during Hashira training. But on the other hand, she was glad that she could stay with you. You were almost constantly training ever since then due to the prediction of having a huge battle with Muzan soon. On this particular day, you were doing physical training in the garden while Nezuko accompanied you. You often wrapped bandages around your AHEM *coughs* badonkers while you train. But maybe you didn’t tie them well today, because while you were doing weightlifting exercises with boulders, a bit of the bandages started to come off, exposing slightly more of your AHHHHEM *cough cough* (sorry I caught covid haha) badonkers. That didn’t go unnoticed by Nezuko. She watches as your b-b-b-b-boobs heaves up and down as you try to control your breathing, and they managed to pique her curiosity. You and your sharp senses managed to catch her staring at you, causing you to turn around and look and her. Nezuko immediately turned her head away. You put down the boulders. “Nezuko what were you looking at? Were you staring at my chest?” You tilted your head slightly and chuckled. Nezuko knew that she shouldn’t lie but she was too flustered to be honest about it either. “Sorry I was just curious… Besides, they look really nice.” Her voice barely above a whisper. You laughed in response “Silly girl, I won’t get mad.” You walked over, placing a hand on her head and lightly patting it. “You’re really cute.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mitsuri
On the training grounds of the Kanroji mansion, you and Mitsuri were sparing with each other for training. The top buttons of both of your uniform shirts were unbuttoned to let some air in while you two exchanged attacks. You leaped into the air as you dodged the wide-ranged attacks of Mitsuri’s flexible sword. When you tried to rush in and land an attack yourself, you were blocked by her own. You consecutively blocked each other’s attacks at extreme speed. You noticed how your reflexes improved a lot since the last time you spared with Mitsuri and urged yourself to focus and do even better. But as you were concentrating so much, Mitsuri it was actually losing concentration. Her eyes travelled towards your chest, exposed by the semi-buttoned shirt. She started to get lost in her thoughts as she watched your boobs moved along with your attacks. Kyaaaaaah they look so nice! N-no! You have to focus! Though it wasn’t long before Mitsuri gave in to her fetish with your badooonks, and she failed to block your attack in time, causing her to fall over. “Woah! You ok? You seemed really distracted today. Plus, it seemed as if you were staring at something on me the whole time… Could it be…?” Uh oh busted… A shade of bright red immediately spreaded across her face. What should I do?? This is so embarrassing! But lying is bad too! “Kyaaaaaah I’m so sorry I was staring at your chest! It's so embarrassing but your chest looks so nice!” Mitsuri admitted with hands covering her face, trying to hide the extreme blush on her face. “I didn’t expect you to full on admit it so whole-heartedly. But hey, it’s all good” You spoke as you kneeled down next to your flustered Mitsuri. “Afterall, I stare at yours quite often too.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shinobu
You had been bedridden for quite a few weeks after getting injured from a mission involving one of the Twelve Kizukis. And now that you were back on your feet, you had to begin you rehabilitation training. On the training grounds of Butterfly Mansion, you began practising your swordsmanship skills on the training dummies, slashing them with your wooden sword while using Total Concentration Breathing, until the dummies broke from the impact. Despite being bedridden for so long, you had improved your skills and had become much stronger than before, Shinobu could tell that. From her spot on the engawa of the Butterfly Mansion, she observed you training. She had always admired you, you were always training with extreme concentration, striving to become stronger so that you could save more people. Not to mention, you were also really pretty. Shinobu watched as you continuously slashed the training dummies, until she caught sight of your chest. They way they move along with your arm movements mesmerise her. “Oh! Kocho-sama I didn’t realise that you were watching me! Am I doing alright?” Hearing her name getting called from you snapped her out of her thoughts. “You’re doing great, keep it up alright? I’m… just here to make sure you don’t hurt yourself again.” You smiled widely at her before returning to your training. Even though she said she was making sure you don’t get hurt, but you already knew the actual reason why she was here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tamayo
Tamayo sat at her desk, scribbling notes about her recent demon blood research. You, on the other side of room, were doing exercises. Every once in a while, she would pause her research and watch you work out with her cheek on her hand. You look so captivating when you work out that it sometimes distracts her from doing research. The way sweat beads trace down your forehead and cheeks. And the way you try to catch your breath. She doesn’t show it, but she secretly enjoys watching you work out a lot. You leaned against the wall to catch your breath while fanning yourself. Even with the windows open, you’re still struggling to cool down, so you reached up to your shirt and unbuttoned the first few buttons of your shirt, revealing a bit of your cleavage. Tamayo’s purple eyes widened at the sight of it. Getting lost at the sight of it rising up and down as you breathe. Your sharp senses noticed Tamayo’s gaze which led you to turn your head to face her. Her eyes widened and she immediately turned back to the research paper on her desk. “Sorry… they just look nice…” In a voice barely above a whisper, Tamayo admitted without facing you. You lightly chuckled in response. “That’s all good! But hey, that research is important. It’s for that one red haired boy, right? You should get the majority of it done first. Afterwards, you can stare at ‘them’ for however long you like.”
Bonus: Yushiro often comes up with plans to assassinate you (fails miserably everytime)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daki
At the base of the Infinity Castle, you decided to spar with Gyutaro for fun. As you two exchanged Blood Demon Art attacks, Daki sat on the sidelines observing the playful battle between her brother and her beloved. You leaped from platform to platform to dodge Gyutaro’s attacks. But when you land on the floor, the hem of your yukata began to slip and expose your cleavage slightly. Daki noticed almost immediately and fixed her eyes on your badonks. You landed a final blow towards Gyutaro, causing him to fall backwards. “That was fun. Though it seems like your skills had been a bit off lately.” You spoke lightly with a hand on your hip. “Is that so? Then I think I need to do more training with you.” The black-and-green haired demon responded as he got up and went to grab something to drink. You turned to Daki and found her sitting at the very edge of the stairs, head forward and eyes focusing somewhere on you. You followed her gaze towards your yukata. Oh. “Daki, were you staring at my chest?” Your voice made her snap out of her daydream. “WHAT?! No I’m not! I was just... making sure you don’t get hurt! That’s all…” You lifted one of your eyebrows. “Sure… sure…” “AAAAAA YOU’RE SO ANNOYING! IF YOU GET HURT NEXT TIME, DON’T COME TO ME CRYING!” And with that, Daki stormed off. Heh, she’s such a simp.

Echoes of a Past Slayer — Demon Slayer Various X Reader
Chapter One — Was It Fate? Or Your Own Stupidity?
Directors' Cut — Heyyyyy! Welcome to the first chapter of my Demon Slayer Canon insert! I have read a couple in the past, and they are just so much fun, I finally got the courage to write one myself! Mainly, @ islandsofviolence on AO3 was a big factor of me wanting to create my own tale. Please check out their Demon Slayer Isekai called, "Kimetsu no...Isekai? [Demon Slayer Various X Reader]" on AO3, it is a super fun read. I hope you stick around to read more as I intend to write many more chapters to this because this was very fun to do~! Thank you for taking the time to read my work.
Word Count — 6.9K Words
Reader Gender — Female (She/Her)
Warnings — Cursing (from Reader and various other characters), Canon-typical violence, slight changing of the actual story of Demon Slayer
Tumblr media
What is Fate?
The order in which one’s life will progress is the base understanding of our existence. We appear through the lens of existence for a brief moment in time, this exact moment, and we get to experience life. Thriving and full, or empty and tragic—such is the balance we must endure. Our entire world dangles on a thread barely standing on the precipice of succeeding to breathe another time or fall into the icy cold grip of demise. Though only two things in life are a guarantee, something that everyone and everything shares together. You are born, and you die. We never know when either event is going to be, where it is going to be, but it’s there.
Can you control it? Can you avoid a predetermined path? Invisible to your eyes, but straight in front of you at every moment? Should you avoid it? Will life become even more of a hellhole if you defy nature?
Can you even begin to declare making the choice of defying Fate if that is exactly what Fate had in mind for you? The “choice” to deviate and be “different from the rest”; is it even a “choice” at all?
Fickle and fleeting is the life of the fool who labors over such mundane concerns.
Well, a fool you certainly are, if that’s what you’re thinking about when a pair of sharpened talons and vicious eyes honed in on your throat is in front of you at the moment.
You’d be lying if you said you had “no idea” how you got caught up in this whole ordeal. Earlier that day, your crow had given you the task of hunting another demon in the next town over. You’d kicked up a fuss at the time, having only just finished a mission an hour prior, begging the warden keeping your downtime locked away from you for one extra night to recuperate.
“Quit pouting,” your crow, Hoshiko, squawked as it dived to deliver a peck right to the top of your head, barely missing when you hastily ducked its ambush, “You must head off! Slayers just beginning their journeys with the Slayer Corps have been dying in much too numerous amounts as of late, so you must provide aid to the slayer in need!”
“You realize I've also only recently passed the trials too, right?” you sassed to the bird. A yelp escaped you as the bird persisted you to move on with threats of more pecks. You decided to stop complaining, if only for the sake of being able to help the new recruit. You remembered how grueling your first set of missions were after you’d completed the horror show known as the Final Selection. It’s only been a year since you passed, but the visions of those seven nights have yet to leave your mind. You’re not sure they ever will. Thinking back, you would have been eternally grateful to the Corp for sending a more experienced slayer to provide aid if things got out of hand. A particularly nasty injury you got on your back, that has since healed, began to ache at the reminder of the battles you faced. Fixing your breastplate to sit comfortably again on your torso after it had moved during your fight, you decided to shove the memory back into the vault, and focus on packing up.
You took off not too long after, waving to the family you’d rescued during the wee hours of the morning. The two children, a young boy and a girl slightly older than him,  were sobbing into your shoulders, gripping your uniform with their tiny, shaking hands. Their overwhelming relief made perfect sense, you had just saved their lives from the clutches of the snarling demon only a few minutes prior. The parents were no better off, throwing their arms around the three of you in a frenzy of tears and wails of gratitude. “Thank you for saving our babies!”, they profusely sobbed over and over to you. You took their sopping thanks with as much grace as you could provide after feeling exhausted and sweaty from the battle. Though, seeing the parents fuss over their children and plant wet kisses all over their red faces made it worth it.
Miraculously, as thanks, they sent you away with a huge helping of the dinner they were so rudely interrupted during. That act gave you all the strength you needed to take off and tackle the next horde of beasts you would face. You walked for hours, observing the rolling hills of grass and the forests you passed through bursting with life. The trees stretched tall and expanded wide, showing the thriving health of the woods. Life thriving never fails to make you smile.
You passed by farm after farm, most harvesting their latest crop of rice, some growing sweet potatoes. Children playfully chased each other through the fields, laughing together. Young adults—their parents, no doubt—hollered at them to be careful to not hurt the budding crops. An older couple passed you as you moved onward. You gave them a formal bow, wanting to show respect by bidding them a good day. The woman giggled at your action, expressing her delight in how nice of manners you possessed, and placed two hard candies into your palm with only the gentleness a beautiful woman could. She gave your head a gentle pat and she and her husband bid you a nice day. You watched them walk off, arm in arm, conversing about this and that, just sharing their time and love with each other. It made you smile how they shared the little pleasures that they knew would make their other half happy. You stopped only a handful of times after that to munch on the helping of dinner you received and poke fun at Hoshiko, eventually reaching the town you were assigned to investigate. Crossing a large wooden bridge arching over the lapping river below, you see the town.
It was dusk, the sun slipping slowly behind the mountainous landscape. Pinks, oranges, yellows, and blues bled into each other in the darkening sky. Clouds began to blot the skyline, not dark enough to suspect rain, but thick enough to blanket the world in darkness. The perfect time to begin the hunting of a demon.
From the little light that was left for the day, your eyes scanned about. Well built, sturdy buildings filed together in singular lines in uniform fashion. Dozens of homes and shops with blue roofs stand firmly. Shops had big painted signs displayed outside with their names brushed in bold colors. Wares were dotted along the busier roads in front of shop doors to entice curious onlookers inside. Power lines draped along the streets like curling vines dangling from their place in the high treetops above. A looming peak stood proud on the border of the city, its jagged crown stabbing the cloudy sky.
The faint waft of freshly cut pine wood filled your senses. Earthy and heady, it grounded you. Various insect chirps buzzed through the air and electricity surging through the lines gave the night a familiar comfort. The shuffling of people’s feet as they make their way home for the night, the creaking of branches with the budding life of spring, a wind chime singing far off in the distance—all of this spelled out the signs of a peaceful village. But, you knew better, as a monster lurked in the shadows somewhere, threatening to desecrate the happiness of these townsfolk.
Rather immediately rushing in to behead the demon, you bide your time. As much as you want to slay the demon on your own to get this mission over quicker, this wasn’t your task. The task you were assigned to, you made sure to clarify with your crow, was to interfere as little as possible with the fight that will ensue, and simply provide aid to the new recruit. This was meant to be their fight, but if the battle began to prove fruitless, then you had permission to take the helm.
To make use of yourself, you decided to walk through the desolate alleyways of the village in search of clues of the demon’s whereabouts that may have been left behind. A torn scrap of attire of a poor victim of the demon’s slaughter, a lost shoe, a splatter of blood, dried or fresh—anything. You had the awareness to keep an eye and ear out for the slayer that was supposed to already be around somewhere. You saw and heard nothing for a while. Lights that had been flickering in windows of the townsfolk’s homes were now beginning to be snuffed out for the evening. Chattering died into meager whispers.
The hour drew much later into the night, and the lack of sleep was starting to get to you. Two nights and a full day of walking in the hot sun drained the life out of you, not to mention the fight with a whole different demon the day before was nothing to lift your nose at. The only thing keeping you awake at this point is your game of gently humming a familiar tune and quizzing yourself on if you could remember where it was from. You were starting to wonder if there really even was a slayer being sent to this location. Hell, maybe there wasn’t even a demon in the first place! Who knows. Funny thought, but you knew that the higher ups wouldn’t waste your time with a fake mission.
“Hmm…,” you rounded another corner. Nothing. Nothing but pitch black emptiness and a couple pieces of litter. Random glass bottles tipped over and broken, a half-eaten fried fish on a stick from one of the local vendors no doubt, and a few crumpled up sheets of, now drenched and grossly stained, paper. Your eyebrows pinched down, a dirty look forming on your features. You moved on, a complaint ready to dig at nobody on your tongue.
“Ugh,” you sighed, “Demon sure is takin’ its time. Is it not hungry? Is that why it hasn’t begun hunting? Hm, not likely. Demons are always gluttons,” you glowered as you carefully lifted your foot high and forward enough to avoid stepping in a sticky clump of some garbage plopped on the ground.
You continued to rant to yourself, “Hoshiko better give me a smoother mission next time, or I swear on that bird’s life, I’ll add a new fashion statement to my uniform. A feather boa! I mean, is it so hard to say, ‘Hey, (Y/N)! Since you’re such a great slayer, the big boss decided to send you to a bustling, bright town! You can relax, and eat all the delicious food you desire—aw heck, you know what? You don’t even have to hunt the demon here! Just take the day off, you’ve earned it!’. Would be much nicer than sifting through…whatever this stuff is,” your face pulled into another disgusted twist as you saw two rats fighting over what looked to be an old, moldy pastry.
“Okay. Quit complaining, (Y/N). Now, which way haven’t I gone yet? I think I’ve checked the whole West and North ends. Maybe move more towards the East—,” a shrill grating sound pierced the deafening silence that had swallowed the land. That shut your mouth tight. Your head shot over in its direction. East. Damnit. You left no time for hesitation, already darting out of the alley and rushing off into the darkness enveloping the roads towards that terrible noise that was rattling off.
You raced along, jumping up high to sprint atop the thin walls lining streets, sharp eyes scanning for any sign of a fight breaking out. Hopefully the new slayer isn’t inept enough to get themselves killed before you arrive. You didn’t want to arrive and see a gory massacre. You ran faster at the harrowing thought, closing in on the beacon. The sound was more aggravating than scary, if you were being honest. It made the back of your tongue unconsciously curl up like a viper ready to strike, the muscle trying to block the vicious resonance from bouncing around in your skull. You pull a face at how ugly it rang, your highly trained ears wincing at the intrusion of such an awful shriek as you neared. Finally, you arrived at the epicenter.
You hopped down from the ledge of the fence into the mouth of a street hidden behind a few residential housing structures. The road was rather lack-luster from an architectural standpoint. Only the wooden fencing surrounding the backyards of the houses and a few entrances to more homes that were latched shut for the night. Though, the scene that lay before you was anything but ordinary.
There were two people, a man and a woman, cowering off to the side. The woman appeared to be passed out in his arms, judging from the limpness of her posture. The man was trembling but not looking at the woman in his arms. Instead, he gazed out further into the road as if just having seen something horrific. Telltale signs that you're exactly where you need to be. Demons spark that primal fear in humans, and only a demon can drag that expression out of someone.
A few paces ahead of the couple, a boy with a large wooden box on his back and a green and black checked haori draped on his back was pointing a blade at something hidden in shadow. The color of the metal was as black as the night sky. That told you he was most likely the beginner slayer you needed to aid. From what you’ve heard from your personal swordsmith, only indecisive and inexperienced slayers get that color of blade gifted to them from the Gods. At last, your final obstacle. A creature halfway poking out of the ground was the recipient of the end of the slayer’s blade. A portal of some kind shields the rest of its body from your view, murky black water lapping at the edges of the foe’s torso. Its hideous face was constrained in a deep frown, its brow bone framing blood red eyes that practically glowed with intensity. Blue hair draped long down its back in a repulsive waterfall. Its stare was beaming straight at the boy with mahogany-colored hair, hardly acknowledging the man and the woman nearby.
Your heart said to jump in and protect the boy and those caught in the crossfire of the fight, but you held back. Remember. You were tasked with aiding the slayer in case they could not handle the mission, not to rush in and risk yet another life. You’d just get in the way. You had to stay put. No matter the ache you felt, no matter the fear or worry about another person’s life. Your loyalty was to your master, not some random boy.
Though…why does it feel like you know him, even though you know you have never met?
You stalked closer into the fray just as the demon began hollering in anger. Not at you, but at the boy pinning him to his spot with his sword.
“You bastard!” The demon shouted at the slayer staring him down. As you neared, you noticed that with the hellish eyes and furrowed non-existent brows, two horns sat crudely across from each other on its forehead, jabbing outward with the same likeness as the mountain at the edge of this town. You locked your dominant hand steadily along the shaft of your weapon, your beloved naginata, lifting it from its resting spot on your shoulder and lifting up your other hand to firmly grasp the pole. You’d long since removed the scabbard from the blade, so there was no hesitation from not being prepared. The red gloss of your naginata’s pole glinted in the moonlight. You continued to examine the scene. You wanted to test the idea of an ambush approach as the demon hasn’t shown that it's noticed you yet.
The creature clenched its fists and pointed at the girl helplessly asleep in the arms of the civilian, “Back off for crying out loud! That girl’s gonna go stale on me, dammit! That girl’s already 16, okay? If I don’t devour her soon, she’s gonna lose flavor by the second!” You wanted to rush in already at the vulgar words spat out by the wretched beast. Absolutely disgusting, all of them. Vile cretins being shit out by the dozens by the demon lord’s work. None of them were salvageable. You wanted to roll your eyes, but another mucky puddle appearing from seemingly out of nowhere swept the thought of showing the demon a thing or two away.
“Calm down, my other self. So what? There are going to be nights like this.” You couldn’t see its face—no doubt it was just as hideous as the other one before you, but you could tell that it was nearly a mirror image of the other demon not too much further ahead. You could faintly see a singular horn sticking straight up from its skull rather than mirroring the dual horns of its “other self”. It was wearing slightly different clothes than the same demon a few yards ahead, it wore a greyish blue nagagi with mesh forearm sleeves, while the other wore a shinobi-style fighting uniform with a mesh undershirt. The same long blue hair hung down its back, the same sickly grey skin tone, the same tones in its vocal inflection. This demon must have spent quite a long time working with its own mutation blood art. Some were better at manipulating their skills than others, but all demons were capable of using it.
You moved your naginata further outward to have a clear shot at the new guest’s neck. If this added threat decided to get cocky, rush backwards, and go for you instead, you’d be ready.
It raised its hand to cup its chin, “I’ve already fed on plenty of 16-year-old girls in this town. They were all quite meaty and delicious~. I’m satisfied.” You could practically hear the smirk in its voice. You bit down a curse, so many innocents lost. Too many good young women lost to these disgusting things. Unclean, unfaithful, unworthy. You hoped it suffered wherever it ended up once it was slain. It wants a reaction. You know this. You inhale and exhale slowly. The slayer and the demon had yet to say anything about your appearance on the outskirts of their fight, nor did they give any indication that they knew you were standing there. You would like to keep it that way for the latter party.
With a pathetic whine, the demon with two horns on the opposite end groaned, “Well, I’M not satisfied, my other self! I wanna consume more!” It panted and shivered with its lust for the flesh of the living.
“You monster…,” the man who had been shaking like a poor leaf near the wall grit out. You didn’t blame him for his fear. Monsters were supposed to be fictional. And yet, here you are, stuck in a beautiful nightmare.
He took a defiant step towards the monster ahead, though his voice cracked under the pressure of confronting the beast, “Return Satoko to me. The one you abducted the night before last!” The man demanded, but it came off as more of a plea rather than any threat.
Shooting from the darkness, the terrible grinding began again. You cringed and saw a third demon nastily crushing and gnashing its own teeth together in a frenzy on the roof to the left of you. Its lower jaw ran at an unbelievable rate, rubbing and scraping to send out an ear-splitting rattle. It did not speak actual words, but it sure took the attention of the room. Soon after, the demon with two horns on its head joined in the decrepit language of poor dental hygiene.
Speaking through its co-partners' chittering, the seemingly most level-headed of the three demons—the one with the singular horn—took the helm, “Satoko? Which one are you babbling on about?” The leader lifted the left side attire, revealing something you couldn’t see because of your position. It was then that the demon slayer and the man turned around to face both you and the demon. Both of them shared a surprised look in their eyes at your arrival, but you raised a hand to silence any comments they could make to blow your cover. You slowly lowered your hand into position again, and winding back your stance. You naginata glistened with an opalescent sheen along the blade of your Nichirin ore. When you received your naginata from the swordsmiths that day so long ago, you surprised everyone around with the color the blade took on. From the nature of the Breathing style blooming throughout your body, it influenced the metal to turn an opaque white. A white so pure it rivaled that of the stars. The quality of the blade was evident in the power it stored slowly ramping up. You felt the wind around you churn into a spiraling wall surrounding you on all sides as you thought these words in your head.
Instinct Breathing…
“If her hairpin is among these collectibles of mine, then I’ve devoured her~,” A cruel snicker followed these harrowing words.
Third Form…
The silence that followed the monster’s haunting reveal gave you your answer. You couldn’t sit by and leave these people in the threat of danger. Demon slayer, or not. You’re better than that. A breath sent straight to the depths of your core was the finish of your long wind up.
Honed Vigilance of the Sturdy Soldier.
You launched forward, having built up so much force behind your swing that the singular step alone carried to the monster’s weak point. In a flash, you brought down the blade of your naginata, lining up perfectly to land the first and final blow. Without warning, all three demons slink back into the swampy muck. However, you anticipated this. Though your blade couldn’t fully connect with its intended target, you stuck it further forward than the demon thought you could. With the added length of the shaft of your weapon, you were able to at least slice open part of the soft flesh of the demon’s neck. It was a warning—no, a promise. A promise that your perfect blade wouldn’t miss next time.
Your gaze darts around, searching for any sign of the triplets, but nothing appears yet. You lifted your eyes to acknowledge your fellow slayer, but were greeted with the eyes of pure hatred. It stunned you for a second. How strange. After a lifetime of seeing the eyes of malicious people with ill intent, human and demon alike, you wouldn’t have expected such passionate eyes and rosy cheeks to be torn apart with such a ghastly rage. Given the situation, you can’t say you’re entirely surprised that the boy is expressing such powerful emotions, but did he know this poor girl? Does he share the same grief of the man who looks beyond shattered after the reveal of its master plan? Why is he so devastated? You’re intrigued, but the questions can come later.
“Unforgivable. Vermin like these cowards don’t deserve to be graced with the honor of a quick death my blade brings,” you say, mostly to yourself, but the slayer catches your words. You care not to give him an explanation, especially when a dripping puddle forms just to the right of you. One of the demons clambers out with a swift leap. It aims for your face, its claws lashing out to strike. You move quicker, propelling your torso backward and smacking the roach with the pole of your naginata. The hit forces the demon to miss your body and instead lodge its outstretched arm into the stone wall beside you. The slayer thankfully catches on to your evasion and helps by slicing the demon’s arm clean off. A rather refreshing splash of cool water dripped onto your arms after his attack. Making sure it was not the blood of the demon, you can guess what his Breathing style is now. Always helpful to have a Water Breathing user around.
While he did manage to hit the target, it wasn’t exactly the right spot. You saw the flaws in his form. It was obvious he did have formal swordsman training, but he was still rather clunky in his preparation for the finishing blow. You saw him attempting to move his body into the correct position to match up with the timing of his Breathing technique, wiggling a squirming as his legs and arms fought against the natural power his body held. It left too many openings for his enemy to evade the slice that matters the most—the one to the neck. Demons weren’t like humans, cutting off a limb or slitting their throat wouldn’t prove fatal. You have to sever the spine from the skull with a true Nichirin blade to ensure a definite kill. That, or the sun—but only idiotic or regretful demons allow themselves to be burnt alive by its warmth.
With not a single peep of distress, the demon slunk back into its home in the mud. No time is given to either of you to process the retreat as another well of water forms next to the slayer. You watch as the slayer reacts with stunning efficiency, flipping his body up and over the attacking demon. As the vermin tries to launch back into the ground, it gives you just enough time to swipe at its throat again. Though, the demon tucks down its head, and your blade only meets its back. You decorate its left shoulder blade all the way to its right hip with a deep slash. You bit back a curse again, damn. They’re quick.
The slayer dodges a swift jab from below from one of demons hiding in a pond, but it proves to be a distraction as the opponent with two horns takes a stab at him from behind. Oh no. You can’t get there fast enough. You can’t bring your blade up quick enough to slash off its arm. The boy is going to be attacked and you can’t reach him. No. You can’t stop the attack without potentially harming the other slayer, you don’t stop. You can’t explain why you did this because no thought drove you to. Your body just moved on its own. It was just instinct.
You put yourself between the slayer and the oncoming attack.
However, the attack that connects doesn’t quite come from the angle you expected.
Nothing prepares you for the moment the slayer’s box he’s been lunging around on his back swings open with a ferocity you haven’t seen in awhile. You also couldn’t have been prepared for a strong leg to come out lightning fast directly after and CRACK across the demon’s face dead on. That hit quite literally sent it spinning, its head swiveling in circles on its spine and its body launched back a couple yards. You saw it lay there motionless on the ground. No way it's dead, right? As you picked up your jaw up off the ground and turned your gaze to whatever the hell could be hiding in the box, all you saw were claws.
This is where we found you when we first started. A pair of sharpened talons and vicious eyes honed in on your throat as you prepare to be torn apart by a demon draped in a pink kimono with black and orange hair.
You don’t have time to prepare your weapon for any attack. The demon is too close to get a good hit either way. It’s too fast, faster than any opponent you’ve faced before. All you can do is stare as she guns to swipe her knife-like nails across your delicate throat and end your days. Though, that blow is never completed. You blink, and suddenly, the demon doesn’t look so monstrous anymore. Suddenly, she’s just a girl. Gentle pink eyes with round irises gaze at you, blown out from their previously cinched slits. The deep veins previously thrumming on her forehead that carry her potent demon blood now smooth down into soft, flawless skin. Her expression doesn’t look nearly as petrifying anymore. In fact, you’d go so far as to say that her eyebrows are no longer furrowed downward in anger, rather, they’re pinched up in…worry? Concern?
…What the hell?
You stand scared stiff as the girl fully exits her home in the box. She stands on sturdy legs and shuffles slowly closer to you. You can only watch as the girl directs a kindhearted ‘hmm?’ through a muzzle made of bamboo at you. Yeah, you think you’re seeing things too. Is that the new fashion trend of this era for demons? Safe to say, you’re not gonna jump on the bandwagon for that one anytime soon.
Sassy thoughts aside, you continue to stare perplexed at the girl. Why is a demon standing in front of you and not attacking? Matter of fact, why has the only thing she, a DEMON, attacked so far been another demon? Weren’t there wars or some shit between demons that outlawed them hurting each other? Hey, don’t judge, mystical mind reader! You’re not a demonologist or anything, you don’t know all the thousand-year wars between demons and their blood feuds…WAIT A SECOND, THAT SLAYER WAS—!
“Why would a mere human be accompanying a demon?” The leader demon with one horn muttered to itself in boiling fury. The demon girl took a battle stance, facing the demon still laying on the ground. You glanced over at the demon barely poking its body out of the puddle and barely caught its look of disdain before it slunk back into the void. With a quiver and a shake from the motionless foe still on the ground, the two-horned demon’s head began to whirl wildly in the opposite direction that it had originally been sent spinning in. She must have pummeled the wretch good because its head took a few seconds to finally slow to a stop once it reached its natural position. The body was then consumed in a sludgy mess of ick, disappearing from sight. Back into the darkness the demons fled.
With the fleeting moment of rest, you took a second to gather yourself. A cold sweat had broken out all over your body at the appearance of the girl and from nearly escaping death by her hands. You steadied your grip on your naginata. She’s a demon. There’s no way she’s not. A kick that powerful cannot be human. It also explains why she can curl up inside a box for who knows how long. The box. The slayer. He had to have known she was in there, the weight alone would have given it away. If he knew she was in there…he must know. He has to know she’s a demon. He’s harboring a demon instead of killing it. He’s hiding the enemy. He’s an enemy.
The demon girl had taken the chance while you were in shock to wander over to the man and the woman. She had raised up her hands to their faces, almost like a mother trying to sweetly cup the cheeks of her babies. Oh my God, she’s going to rip their faces off. She’s toying with them.
She’s going to hurt them.
They only hurt people.
Help them.
Protect the innocent.
Yet again, you don’t think, you just move.
With no warning, you rocket forward. Your naginata is outstretched to reach the creature quicker as you aim straight for the demon’s vertebrae. This time, you won’t miss.
Too bad the “hapless little” slayer you were tasked to babysit stops your onslaught with a hefty block of his own katana. A mighty CLASH of steel on steel echoes throughout the walls of the back alley road. Your breath is steady and calm as you draw it in to fuel your Breathing technique. Years of training has led you to breath this deeply unconsciously, it has been like this for you for since you were young. The boy’s is shaky and uneven. He tries to catch your eyes with his own, trying to reason with you through a wordless plea for mercy, but you don’t give him the chance. You stare through his head with a thousand yard stare. You’re honed in on her neck peeking through her unbelievably long black locks. He’s not a threat, he’s just an obstacle. A hiss resonates from your blades dragging against one another. Though his stance is weaker than your own, the fire you can sense blazing within his soul confirms your suspicions from before. His passion extends to everything, not whether or not he personally knows the woman who died. He’s just that kind of soul. It would be honorable, if he wasn’t being such a deplorable little nuisance.
“Let me explain—,” he tries to reason, but you hold your own. Only when he speaks up do you finally greet his nervous irises with your own infuriated ones.
“Explain what? That you’re as dishonorable as they come? Harboring a demon? Not only refusing to slay the enemy, but also preventing another slayer from cleaning up the mess you left behind?!” You step back. The movement forces the boy to nearly trip over from how hard he was pushing back against you. You bring down a harsh swing of the wooden pole of your weapon straight into his side. He coughs and hacks, the air shoots out of his lungs. He noticeably struggles from the force of your blow. Yet, he continues to stand tall. He blocks the incoming swipe of your blade with a counter slash of his own and delivers a hard shove with his weapon. You stumble back, witnessing him form a defensive wall in front of the girl, stance wide and body ready to retaliate your advances with more strength than ever before.
“I refuse to hurt you, but I won’t let you kill Nezuko!” The boy yells at you with incredible volume. After gasping for air from when you slammed your staff into him, you’re surprised he can even speak. You continue to observe him, processing his words. Nezuko. That’s the girl’s name. Hm. How the hell did you learn the name of the girl who's not supposed to even BE here and haven’t caught the slayer’s? The Corps needs to get better at disclosing what nutcases you’re going to be saddled with in the future.
Before you could shout your own overflowing anger back out at him, your little spat is interrupted by the swamp demons. Two of them slither back up to the surface like writhing worms both holding frustrated expressions upon their faces. You sigh, eyeing who you now know as “Nezuko”. It pisses you off. You don’t want to stop trying to slay the demon, but there are more pressing matters at hand. Namely, the three demons who are actively trying to kill you all right now. The only thing good about Nezuko so far is that she hasn’t actually tried to eat you yet, so, small blessings, you suppose.
The slayer seems to have noticed them too. With a smack of your lips, you cut away from the duo. You ready up your naginata, aiming at the demons lingering in the background and charging up another form, when the girl demon does another thing that surprises you.
You distantly hear the slayer calling Nezuko’s name, but you don’t acknowledge it as you see her face toughen up the same way it did when she first attacked the demon gunning for the boy, rush forward with miraculous speed, lift her right leg up almost perpendicular to the ground, and slam it back to the spot where the closer demon had been. You hear the ground splinter, and it physically caved underneath the incredible force of her stomp. Sadly, the coward fled away from her attack into the swampy marsh below, leaving behind no trace of its existence.
Okay. Maybe there’s more than just one good thing about Nezuko. Point taken, universe.
You shake your head to clear your mind, dash over to the slayer and barricade in the man and the woman he is still clutching onto. The second demon, the one with one horn, chuckles with a sinister grin and slinks back into the darkness as well. Nezuko goes to chase after her foe, but the boy calls for her to cease her hunt.
“Nezuko! Don’t chase after him! Get back here!” You hear the boy call out to her. She halts, looking back with a deceiving aloof stare, and begins her brisk jog back to the four of you like a dog following their owner’s commands. On her way back, the swamp demon tries to take a cheap shot at her by popping out of a puddle and swiping at Nezuko’s legs.
“Nezuko!” The boy cried, and even you got a bit nervous at how close the ingrate got. However, Nezuko somersaulted high into the air, practically floated back down into a safe landing on her knee, and carried on her merry way. Like nothing even happened! She reached you guys, having completed her journey back to the slayer’s side. Even the swamp demon shared the same shocked expression as you had at her amazing feat. The boy had a troubled look on his face as he stared at Nezuko, some plan obviously swirling in his mind. He took a second to look around. Apparently, the demon decided he was taking too long to admire the scenery. Another puddle appeared directly below him. It tried to latch onto his foot, no doubt attempting to drag him under, but he jumped back as quickly as it appeared.
“Watch out!” The slayer’s shout doesn’t reach either of you in time. Out of nowhere, another pool appears next to you and Nezuko, and the demon with two horns catapulted out. He swipes his claws at you both, Nezuko fending off the brunt of the attack as you stepped in front of the bystanders. You forced them further back from the confrontation.
“Careful!” you yelled back at the civilian. You felt his shaking through the woman he carried as you pressed them away. Your legs are bent and your hands are grabbing your weapon with a tight grip. You train your eye on the demon, watching him lift his upper body up from the ground and squat deeper into a fighting stance.
“Nezuko,” the boy catches both of your attentions with her name, “I’m going underground! I want you to protect these two! You can do that, right?” Nezuko stopped to give him a knowing look, nodding her head in agreement with his plan. Though, you didn’t share the same kindness with him. From the vicious look you branded him with, he decided in that moment he would much rather face a hungry demon than endure the wrath of a pissed off woman.
“Leaving a demon in charge of protecting the humans? Man, what numbskull trained you?!” You snarled at the slayer with even more animosity than an angry bear possessed.
“Well—um…I’d have asked you to take care of them too, if I knew who you were, miss!” The boy shook his hands back and forth, sweating up a storm and stuttering over his flaws. A fleet of “I’m sorry”’s spilled out of his lips, upset at how bold he was being to a woman he had just met. He appeared to be trying to reconcile all the broken bridges you had between you two thus far, but that plan didn’t seem to be going super well at the moment. You’d have laughed at the nervous expression he now donned if you weren’t currently in a life or death situation.
You deadpanned at him. You looked over at Nezuko, who only gave you a slight tilt of her head as if asking ‘What do you want me to do about it?’.
“Oh, don’t agree with him!” You muttered while shooting a much less intimidating glare at the cutesy girl. You’re sure if Nezuko could laugh through that freak muzzle holding back the maw of razor-sharp teeth she probably hid away, she would have. With a now hardened expression, the slayer lifted his foot and stepped forward into the swirling puddle of sludgy black goop sitting right in front of him. As he sunk further and further down, and bit your lip in worry. Hey, he might be a dumbass and a fugitive by the Corps laws, but if he was going to die down there, you might as well give him your name.
“Hey!” The boy glanced back up at you.
“I’m (Y/N) (L/N)! Don’t die down there before I get yours in return, okay?!” You yelled over at him. He didn’t have time to give you his name back, so all he could do was give you a wide smile. Those damn bright eyes and rosy cheeks. There was that passion again. The same drive that sent your brain floundering for an explanation. He is so odd.
“What a dreadful start to this evening,” You let out a deep sigh as you readied up for a dicey battle fighting alongside your sworn enemy.

nezuko x reader where only mc can calm down demon nezuko in a fit of rage (missing tanjiro as he sustained a lot of injuries and is still crawling back to your wherabouts)
this is a very old draft, but i wanted to finish this for the new ds ep! so spoilers to those who haven’t seen the anime or read the manga! I kind of cut sum stuff out to avoid making it longer. hi there anon bud uh hope you’re doing okay!
Tumblr media
you screamed in horror as nezuko hungrily lunges at the innocent injured woman with the intent to devour her. as fast as your aching legs can take you, you jumped onto nezuko’s back, and slot the blade between her teeth to prevent her from hurting the poor woman. you cringed as her teeth nearly sinks into your (f/c) blade. you forgot how strong she was!
“ nezuko, please calm down!! fight it! you have to resist it! “ blinded by her intense hunger, nezuko hustles around, growling, screaming as she tries to remove you from her body. you held on tighter, squeezing your eyes shut as you desperately beg for the girl to snap out of it.
“ don’t worry! [name]’s here! your brother will be here soon too, we’ll make it okay! just—“ you gasp as your back harshly met with the celling. crying in pain as the two of you fell back to the floor with you still on nezuko’s back, refusing to let go, you desperately prayed that tanjirou would hurry back and help you calm her down. “ nezuko, please! you mustn’t give in!-“ in attempt to get you off her body, she throws herself into the thin wall, crashing into another room full of bystanders. the angry demon blindly clawed at you repeatedly and managed to scratch your cheek and ear. “ ow, ow! shit you feisty minion, you’re scratching me! “ the bystanders in the room cowered on fear, stupidly watching the scene unfold. “ why the hell are all of you standing around for, run! is everyone here just stupid bimbos and stupid horny bums?!-“
abruptly, nezuko braces herself and jumps through the ceiling to another floor. you coughed horsely at the dust filling your throat and you’re starting to lose the remainder of your strength. the grip you managed to hold around her waist weakens. the bystanders around you screamed at the sight of you and nezuko coming through the floor. much to your luck, daki who seemed severely burnt, angrily stalks towards you two with her sashes ready to strike. you cursed under your breath, you can’t just let nezuko go with innocents near by! in a flash, tengen appears beside you, marveled by nezuko’s transformation. he comments on her violent behavior completely ignoring the demon behind him.
“ tengen! you lame ass wannabe sissy, can’t you see the weight of the situation here? help me out! “ the hashira shrugs, uncharacteristically unbothered by your insult. “ what do you want me to do about it? it’s quite a shame that kamado boy is having you babysit his own sister. not very manly of him when he talked so big in front of master. why not sing her a lullaby? make it quick, the fight isn’t over yet. “ before you can curse out the man for his lack of support, growling, nezuko suddenly lunges herself backwards, smashing through the wall and throwing you two out of the building. your stomach dropped at the gut-wrenching realization that it was going to be a hard fall.
your body hit the ground roughly, knocking the wind out of your lungs. your vision filled with black spots as you peer up at the cloudless night sky in exhaustion. your consciousness is slipping, nezuko’s violent growls and grunts of anger grew more and more distant. at this point, nezuko is halfway from finally ripping herself from your body until a familiar voice booms from the distance.
“ (name)! please, hold nezuko off for just a little more, i’m almost there! she’s trying to get away! “ snapping back to reality, you swiftly snatched nezuko back to your front by the blade still pressed between her teeth. she aggressively reaches her hand out towards the building and you followed suit, grabbing ahold of it in a tender manner. you take a deep yet shaky breath, leaning down towards her ear and whispered, “ it’s time to simmer down now, your big brother tanjirou is going to be here soon. we’ll all be together again.“ the warmth in your voice, your tender words, and the way your hand is grasping hers strikes a familiar nostalgia within her.
her aggression seizes and much to your surprise, she bursts out crying. you released the sword from her mouth and tossed it to the side to comfort her until she reduces to a small weeping child asleep in your arms. the sound of rapid footsteps approach and tanjirou bends down next to you to drink in the sight in front of him. he places his calloused hand on her temple gingerly. “ are you alright (name)? thank you, thank you for looking out for her when i couldn’t. if i only got here sooner. .”
“ don’t start with ifs now, tanjirou. tengen and the upper moon is still inside. “
“ r-right! “
