This art piece looks so great that I just had to go on a little rant about it.

First thing I noticed is that everyone but the three winners is asleep. Excluding Martin, which leads me to believe that this scene takes place right after the final session of Double Life.

Grian is the only one standing up straight, fully awake because he was the first one to win. He’s standing on a patch of sand, while Scar is laying right next to him. They’re surrounded by poppies, that previously in the series showed strong alliance, but Scar is almost fully on alliums, that symbolize unity, good fortune, prosperity, humility, and patience or wish someone good luck on a new endeavor. Perhaps they mean better luck next time, as Scar lost a fight for first place in 3rd Life.  Grian’s looking at him with a sad expression and clenched fists, which remind me of their final fight on top of the Monopoly Mountain.

Scott being the second winner is awake as well, but he’s kneeling as he had less time than Grian to fully get over his dream. He’s on a patch of flowers that could symbolize his time from 3rd Life with Jimmy. Both of them accessorize their outfits with poppies, showing their bond as former allies and flower husbands. However, Scott’s poppy is placed on his head and looks as if it’s being cared after, while Jimmy’s sits by his belt. He’s right next to Tango, their bandanas and the wheat that they’re on show that Jimmy’s more attached to his fellow rancher and soulmate. Now is a great moment to mention the environment is a great way to reflect what is most important to a player.

Next to Scott, we can also see a bit of blue flowers similar to the ones on Cleo’s head. They could imply the fact that they chose each other as their soulmates and not who they were linked with. Scott’s body language is closed off, he’s away from his allies and he’s glaring at Pearl.

Pearl just woke up from winning Double Life and seems to be making eye contact with Scott, but ultimately she’s closest to Tilly. Her dog, the only source of comfort and ally when everyone rejected her for being crazy and „cursed”. Tilly’s still sleeping leaving Pearl alone once more. She’s sitting by berry bushes that remind of the taiga from Last Life where she, Scott and Cleo made the Gatekeep, Gaslight and Girlboss trio and had their base. The past when their relationship was better.

Another thing worth noticing is that the winners are right in the sunlight when almost everyone else is in shadow. With the exception of Scar (almost won 3rd Life), Cleo (Scott’s chosen soulmate in Double Life) and Ren and Martin (3rd life Red King and his closest ally, whose future is looking bright).

Martin’s still sleeping as Limited Life hadn’t happened yet. But he’s next to Ren, having been his right hand man and wears Cleo’s flower, because he was her soulmate.

I could also argue that Jimmy’s in the darkest part of the painting as he’s the first one to die every series.

Obviously I could’ve misinterpreted some crucial element or just straight up overanalyzed everything. But it was a fun excuse to gush about the Life series and who I am to pass such a great opportunity to do so? ;)

sometimes you just wanna gush about your favorite artist and let them know everything you adore about their art

sometimes your favorite artist is your best friend, and now they have no choice but to know about all the good things their art does and how much you adore it

thats me with Doody btw. Ill always remind them how they are my favorite artist and wont believe me.

But thats the truth, and I think more people should shower their favorite artist in compliments to remind them that YES!!! theres people out there who go insane with their art, even small little sketches, that you pay attention to every detail in their work! Even if its incredibly unnoticeable, it shows an artist how much you care for their craft and makes them feel like their work has been appreciated.

Cuz yeah, you can support and artist with all the likes and RBs in the world (please do) but also, replying to the art, commenting things that you love about it, means SOOO much more, even just a simple key word smash bc you just love it so much you cant put it in to words makes a difference.

Show your favorite artist love, they deserve it

1) obvs my thesis material, so if you want to know anything about freshwater content in the Arctic ocean I'm your person, very interested in Russian Shelf transport, Beaufort Gyre dynamics, the Arctic Oscillation's influence on surface circulation, and ice export <3

2) love talking about paleoclimate as well, hated the course in undergrad but probably the class I remember the most about, ask me about milankovitch cycles or the Gaia hypothesis or meridional overturning circulation

3) what I call my fungus thesis which isn't actually a coherent idea except that I love the resourcefulness of rot and I always enjoy sci-fi that makes me contemplate the difference between a biological imperative of another species imposed onto ur free will via chemistry v.s. actual communion with a higher plane of existence thru holy, fungus-y mediums, and wether you'd ever be able to tell the difference, whether an ant taken over by cordyceps climbing a tall tree feels ant euphoria for reaching the top, etc

4) also adore thinking about sustainable farming and food cultivation methods, permaculture, traditional foods and practices from various indigenous communities, etc, took a class about restorative ecology and another comparing agriculture and indigenous methods like native American food forests across the Holocene to today and it was SO cool, also ties into paleoclimate, the anthropocene, humans intrinsically being a participant in earth systems instead of outside of them, etc, love it

5) this is getting long uuuhh also teaching and evaluation methods in higher education, both for students and professors, I'm by no means an expert but I have been taking teaching classes and having taken a plethora of classes at this point I have Thoughts

A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.

My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.

My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.

This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.

Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.

I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.

So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.
