I think I must have deleted the final sprites for AGH for some stupid reason bc I am literally dissecting shading colours to get them as close to the originals as possible bc I want to make an additional sprite so y'all better appreciate what I'm going through rn /lh
#you can't see it but on the left sprite I colour picked the shading colours from the right#so I have little circles as colour keys to make sure I get the shading colour right#I am VERY particular about it being as close as possible can you tell#don't quote me on getting this extra sprite done yet but I hope I can!#goldie speaks#it's all I have left for the rerelease :>

Random Witch Tips
Just a few things I've learned from being in a practice for over five, going on six, years now:
Sigils are a lot more powerful than everyone really knows, they're a beginner friendly spell waiting to be had.
Scroll Spells: Putting a sigil on a piece of coloured construction paper tie it up with a (preferably) different colored string, seal the string in wax, is the easiest spell to ever do. (Kind of inspired by Naruto)
Speaking of Naruto: I have little Pop Funko key chains that I've picked up at travel household guardians. I also have one of MCU Loki that the Norse Deity Loki has taken an offense to (ping me or send me an ask for a storytime)
Divination can be used and done everywhere, the little sayings on Stevia packets, having your phones wallpaper change different colors are base it off of the colors, music (shufflemancy), are all just little ways to use divination.
Making altars not just for divine individuals. I have an altar set up for the zodiac sign of Scorpio (my stellium is set in Scorpio and Sagittarius) and an altar set up just for self-care. (Please remember the differences between altars and shrines.
Baking ingredients are an underrated spell jar ingredients, sometimes you just don't really feel like kitchen magic and/or in a tough bind for time, energy and just want something a bit more big and powerful than a scroll spell.
Scrying mirrors were always a bit of a hassle for me, it hurt my eyes and I had to get the angle just right, having to sit in one position for too long was a wreck on my unmedicated ADHD self. I learned how to do open-eye scrying by relying on my snow vision, having 3D glasses was able to help me out as well.
Speaking of the 3D glasses: any common every day object can be used in your practice. Using that limited edition Sprite Cranberry would be a good spell ingredient or even as an offering for a deity/divine individual.
Divine individuals will ask you to put things like jewelry or keys on their altar so that they know whenever you go out on a drive or out with friends. Especially if you don't go out very often. They just like hanging out with us sometimes, they're not just here for fun and games however, you have to put in the work and have the motivation to get better for them to get more comfortable with you.
Divine individuals have a life outside of witchcraft, their own society and workload outside of our physical plane. Please keep this in mind. They are not always here with us. Lucifer has paperwork, Poseidon has a kingdom to rule over, An Morrigan has children to take care of, make certain to respect these.

how do you handle genetics if you do at all in your art
Great question! I'm actually quite the cats genetics nerd and typically when I design my own cat ocs, I go for accurate, realistic genetics. Genetics in ClanGen don't _quiiite_ work that way though, and since I like staying pretty close to the in game sprite's patterns, I'm forced to do the genetics for SporeClan with body/fur shape only.
Since we don't have any SporeClan cats with two in game generated parents as of yet, I made a brand new clan and picked a family from there! I usually try to take a mix of traits from both parents, or go somewhere in between. These two parents here are pretty different, so combined with their already wildly different coat patterns, the siblings look pretty different from eachother. I hope you can still see what I'm trying to portray, though!
One of my FAVOURITE things to do when designing families is giving some of them a unique trait, like the fully pink nose Aphidpeak has passed on to Bubblingspeck, or the full back stripe that both Softrock and Jellyfishfeather inherited from Cypressplume. Also, when cats have parents that are agouti(ticked)/bengal but doesn't inherit the pattern, I still like to include things like the dark feet. I also do this sometimes with white spotting, such as the rings on Softrock's tail.
LASTLY, I do sometimes mess with how I portray the patterning.
Usually when I draw most patterns, I'll draw their underbelly colours with my regular brush, giving them harder lines. But with Softrock, I opted to airbrush in her lighter underbelly, a thing I usually only do with agouti cats, as a nod to her parents. I'll also often mess with just how much the lighter colour goes up (for example, Mousegrove and all her kits have a high amount of the lighter colour, while Dawnpelt and Minklake have barely any)
Anyways, I think that's all.... it's all I can come up with for now, at least :') Hope my ramblings are at least somewhat coherent!
#you all have no idea how much i wanted to instantly burst into tears when i saw jellyfishfeather for the first time#looks EXACTLY like one of my irl cats <3<3<3<3<3#got extremely attached to him so i want everyone to know he turned out to be transmasc and also became jellyfishstar <3<3<3#chitchat#ask#i had another family and then a kit from this and that one had kits and i wanted to draw them all for Ultimate Examples Gallore#but i am simply too busy right now to do that :[ sad.......#i will do it if theres any interest though

Some Outer Wilds themed Sprites - About four months old for the hatchling and fish, the Undertale one is just under two months old.
There's also a landscape pixel scene at the end of the keep reading.
I lost my will to connect with art until I discovered the joy of making sprites. I think there was something about having something tangible very quickly that was super appealing. I think as an artist that is just starting out it can be very discouraging when you're measuring up against people who have been doing what they have been for such a long time. You don't see the years of experience that happened behind the scenes of whatever is in front of you.
But sprites, most importantly you can get something pretty decent with enough dedication, issues that are too expansive to understand all at once become much more accessible.
You don't have to have perfect anatomy to have a workable sprite.
You don't have to understand colour theory nor composition to lay out something fun to look at.
When I was learning how to make games they would always tell me pixel art was like art for non artists.
Sprites are wonderful, especially now when we're not constrained by hardware, you can do some wild stuff.
Art is so fascinating, I think different ways of working make you think about different aspects that can flow into other areas.
I use these to push my characterisation now, you have such a small canvas (I work at 96x96 and expand to 288x288) you really need to think about a hierarchy of importance. It's all about distilling the essence of what you're trying to convey.
That being said this isn't how I started, my first sprites took days, endlessly worrying about every single pixel. Learning how to sprite took a few months of really dedicated creation. I learned by creating for Pokemon fangame Infinite Fusion (Most of them can be seen here: https://www.fusiondex.org/artists/assassiowl/), there's a dedicated community of artists, with a huge list of base sprites that you can paint over.
When you're not confident in what you're doing, having access to resources like that is a wonderful thing to be grateful for. You can forget about things like anatomy and colours (to an extent) while you pick it up along the way. Even better when you meet encouraging people who teach you things you might have missed along the way.
The problem as a beginner I always had was, nothing I made looked even ok, it was beyond frustrating not being able to make anything look even passable. It's super disheartening that when you put so many hours into something and you have nothing to show for it.
It put me off art for such a long time. But the wonderful thing when you're editing something that already exists, is you can still get it too look pretty good. I mashed two pokemon together, someone else has already worried about what their key features and personalities are, all I have to do is find a way to bring out both halves.
But really, I think the most important thing for creating in general is to find what you actually enjoy doing, yeah that's vague and it sucks while you're looking, but there needs to be something that makes you want to keep showing up on the days where you don't feel like it.
I play games a lot, so this was just putting into practice everything I've been passively absorbing for such a long time.
I still make sprites and pixel art, but not nearly as regularly as I used to. I made this landscape using the familiar tools of pixel art, but I really wanted to start exploring some more complicated ideas, which aren't really possible with just a small character canvas.
Asking a friend about why they stepped away from sprites, they said something similar, that they wanted to create backgrounds for their characters, I suppose I get that sentiment now.

❁Pearl Fey and Trucy Wright hanging out❁
Today I finished this drawing and honestly, I love it so much! makes sense since I drew most of this with my left (main) hand (used right hand for a good chunk of the sketch to help maintain being somewhat ambidextrous) and, got to use an art medium I haven't used in almost a year, after buying some cheap alcohol markers (cheaper than sharpie's cheap) a few weeks ago.
(rest of post has minor spoilers for AA2-5, mostly AA4-5 but I do mention very minor spoilers for AA2-3)
I've been wanting to draw Pearl for a while, especially after seeing her in the DD DLC case (which is my fave case from DD) but than on the 18th I read this fanfic by Samioli and, it was so cute! It made me want to draw Pearl even more! To clarify this isn't fanart of the fic (idk if I ship Pearl and Trucy but I do see them as childhood bffs) but, I do hc Pearly as lesbian thanks to the fic and, I still wanted to recommend it cuz it's such an amazing fic and, it motivated me to draw Pearly hanging out with Trucy.
okay now back to talking about the drawing XD. I decided to re-design both girl's hair-do's and I'm very glad I did. I like Trucy's canon hair but as mentioned in this post I originally thought her official sprite had a bob, and now that I drew her with a bob I think I might continue doing so! Also I don't think she has an ahoge in canon but, I think it suits her so I will always give her one :3 (Edit, turns out she does have an ahoge and it's even cuter that the one I gave her so in future I will draw her with her canon ahoge)
As for Pearl, I dislike that her model in DD basically is just a taller version of her child sprites in AA2-3, so after making some thumbnails on a different page of hair-do ideas, I decided on a hairstyle that's similar to her canon hair-do but, more interesting imo, especially since I made the braids heart shaped on purpose cuz it references her love of romance (very on the nose, but being on the nose is kinda on brand for AA).
I also had a lot of fun designing these outfits for them both! Trucy's bag is of course a playing card and I picked 8 of diamonds cuz she has a diamond motif in canon and, was adopted by Phoenix when she was 8! Her jeans also have a two patches, one of her first daddy's hat/her hat when she was a child and a bunny, cuz that's magic related and cute lol. Also gave her a bracelet that kinda references Apollo but kinda doesn't, because it's on the wrong arm (didn't want it to crowd the hand holding pose!) and it's sliver because I didn't want to add yellow to the colour pallet :P
Pearl's outfit was loosely inspired by fairy-kei fashion as I feel like Pearl would enjoy Fairy-kei and Yumekawaii but not strictly follow a jfashion style. I also gave Pearl glasses. Not only make her look more unique compared to her canon child design but also, cuz AA doesn't have enough characters with glasses imo and I think they look super cute on her! I did consider giving her heart lenses but, I think that might be over doing the heart motif so I made them round instead :P

During a Twitch stream in Sept 2022, I started a personal project to redraw every item sprite from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in my own style. After a bit of a break, I picked it back up again for two more streams in Feb 2023, and finally finished the last few missing items and icons on my own time in March.
This was a lot more work than I'd initially anticipated; between drawing, colouring, and rendering, it amounted to about 20-30 total hours of labour. It was a really fun undertaking though - I have fond memories of closely studying the old 3D renders in the original N64 game's instruction manual as a kid, and it was a super interesting challenge to compare those with the in-game sprites and models (as well as their counterparts in the 2011 remake) and decide how to blend/adapt those varying designs while adding my own stylistic touches. It was also just really great practice, and there are techniques I learned while working on this project that I was able to almost immediately apply in my professional work! So one way or another, definitely a worthwhile use of my time, and I'd love to try something similar again in the future.
(It'll take a bit before it's ready, but I've also been working in my spare time to implement these into a partial texture pack for the game itself!)
#loz#ocarina of time#zelda items#sprite redraw#game art#item art#video game weapons#obviously the songs in-game don't have detailed icons like these but since i'm using these for ZOoTR it's helpful to make them distinctive#also it's an excuse to draw a very cute epona so how could i pass that up#anyways if you have a fave lemme know! mine are the eyeball frog and the mirror shield i think#taffy art

I made a season 1-3 version of my cross stitch pattern! (Season 4 one here.) I modified the original Fall of XANA sprites to look like the original Lyoko designs and then used FlossCross again to make the pattern. And then spent days agonising over which shades of purple to use for Odd. Picking colours isn't as easy as you'd expect. But I'm happy with the result!
You can find both patterns at the link below. I tried to reuse as many colours as I could from the season 4 pattern so if you want to make both, you shouldn't need many more extra colours. Same disclaimer as the season 4 one: the pattern uses DMC colours but for my one, I swapped several of them for similar Dimensions ones I already had. On 14 count aida, the finished design measures about 15.5x6.5cm (6.1x2.5in). The frame pictured is designed for 5x7in photos - each space is 4.5x6.5in.
#//this was the only frame I could find that was sorta what I was looking for. why does it need to have so much whitespace 😭#code lyoko#aqof crafts

So I currently have 3 cats. One, the sentient Rage Incarnate posing as a Studio Ghibli Soot Sprite( aka the Creature) is a ball of nerves who spooks far to easily. My Tubey Boi, is very affectionate and trusting of set people but spooks in certain situations. But the third one. Oh. My god. The third one. The Bebby, the Perma-Kitten, Little Miss Missed-the-Jump-and-Fell-Snoot-First-into-the-Fountain-of-Youth. She has no fear or shame. She is so confident, secure, and trusting that I would fight each and every one of the gods for her and her siblings( and she's right), that this absolutely dork has slept through the start of a fire alarm on my desk, making us panic when we couldn't find her in any hiding spot because she wasn't hiding, she was watching us from her nap spot as we panicked waiting for us to see and to clip on her leash and go, she has snoozed through a lightning strike less than 100 meters from our home that scattered her siblings to the four corners of the world.
SHE CONTINUES TO BE A MENACE WITH HER TRUST AND LACK OF FEAR (don't worry nothing bad happened, but on with the story)
I am currently sick. I sound like a Ring Wraith when I talk and feel like I've been kicked by a mule. I went out to buy some cold and flu meds, so i had left the apartment early. I see the Rage Sprited and the Tube, but I realized I hadn't seen the Bebby for a while. No worries, she's probably asleep in the other room. NOPE. She's not in any of her nap spots, she's not by the food, she's not in the litter box, she's not on the shelf above my bed.
Now, as established, I am sick. I am missing 95% of my vocal range. Still, i start trying to call her, getting increasingly desperate. No response. I start panicking thinking she got out into the hall, because she's an adventure kitty, but hallway parties are supervised activities, and usual she's good about asking to go out together, but sometimes she gets impatient if she thinks it's been too long and tries to slip out to force one. Now I'm thinking she slipped out into the apartment hall when I came in, and being sick and out of it I missed it, and didn't hear here mewing and running around outside. So I check the hall. No cat. But it's been a while since then, and although it's closed now, my one neoghbour on this floor annoyingly keeps propping the stairwell doors open that lead to the exterior doors. So now I think I've really fucked up and she's either gotten picked up by a neighbour or outside of the building completely. Now I'm a blubbering mess, and I sound like a Nazgûl impersonating a tea kettle in a soundproof room that someone's rapidly opening and closing the door to with how my voice is hissing and failing. Defeated, I go back in my apartment and am about to call my roommate who isn't here right now and tell her how I've fucked up and am about to start banging on doors in the building and look outside, even if it's futile to look for a pure black cat outdoors at midnight in January. I'm so scared she's hiding somewhere outside, or worse that some superstitious asshat found and hurt her for her coat colour, because this poor trusting little fool looks exactly like a Halloween cutout, and my roommate and I also have witchy aesthetics.
So I wheeze-wailing and am a disheveled mucusy mess as I'm about to hit the call button. I'm also getting really light-headed because in addition to the panic and being sick, I have a heart condition that can abruptly make me light-headed for just existing on a normal day. Now is not the time to faint so I am struggling to breathe well enough to calm down, when I hear something fall in a cupboard. Looking around the other two cats are still in eyesight and nowhere near the sound. There's another bit of rustling, then through the tiny gap that I didn't think even she could fit through, a sleek little black paw suddenly pokes out before the rest of the rest of the cat liquids her way out of that closet, blinks at me and sleepily yawns and stretches, before slinky over to investigate like she's about to say "oh no, mömther, you look awful. Have you heard of closet naps? I slept like the dead in there. Maybe it will make you feel better?"

I just wanted to put them in these tees, and then I wanted to give them funky outfits, and then this sorta just came together. I wanted the tees the other way around, but you just know Zen would start getting his panties in a bunch.
Okay, so headcanon time:
Yoosung's sprites and official art see him mostly wearing slimmer-fitting stuff, and looking reasonably clean-cut unless he's at home - less normal and boring than before uni, but still pretty toned down. After all, he's been taught to be proper. However, his striped tees and colourful pins already appear as a kind of style search, as does his little layering that he has going on most of the time. After he loses sight in his left eye and spirals into depression, he loses a lot of weight and finds that all of his clothes now hang on him and are way too big. At first, he just tries to hide in all that fabric, wearing stuff on top of one another to cocoon in, then it becomes more of a search for comfort, trying to get at least a little of the physical touch that he craves in this way. Somewhere along the way he realizes that the loose chunky layers feel really good and comfortable, and he begins actually liking the look of them. He also starts stacking accessories, mostly bracelets, also as a physical reassurance. This change in style marks his drift from his family's control, supported and encouraged by Zen (who is a little overprotective because he's projecting, but also because he gets a firsthand glimpse into what Yoosung's parents are like and realizes that's No Way To Live). He embraces a lot of his nonconformity here, and becomes way more comfortable in his skin. He does still wear slimmer fits, especially shirts (because now he has all the physical reassurance he needs), but his clothes become way more feel-good, relaxed, and funky.
Zen, for his part, goes through several different phases. When he runs away from home at the ripe old age of fourteen, he's trying his best to look adult and accentuate what little muscle he has, so he's constantly wearing skin-tight tees and jeans (some of them becoming so tight for the sole reason that he's outgrowing them). Then puberty plays a very funny joke by giving him hips before it gives him shoulders, and he gets his first actual leather biking jacket, with the help from the guy responsible for too many of his firsts. At that point Zen is still quite skinny, soft, and fragile, and his attempts at masculinity are childish. After being abandoned (again) by the person he loves, he starts his journey of hardening up and growing a carapace, which reflects on his style becoming way stiffer and more leather. Of course, he has little choice because he mostly survives on hand-me-downs, but those worn-out too-big too-stiff clothes make him feel better. This especially spikes after a certain event that he doesn't really talk about, when he completely stops appearing in public with his jacket unzipped. Then, after some drifting, he finally finds people he can trust and starts spending more time on actually pursuing his dream than trying to just barely survive. At that point he enters a new phase where he starts craving normalcy. His style becomes way simpler and more toned down. He chooses mostly soft, pliable clothes, nothing tight and nothing loose, no unusual cuts, mostly monochrome. He has very few clothes and he picks and chooses them to match in all combinations. And that stays true up until Yoosung's presence in Zen's flat (and heart) introduces colour into his wardrobe (and life). Zen is still more into classics, at least in terms of cuts, but he becomes more likely to pick an outlandish accent colour or texture. He's not big on accessories, unless it's something Yoosung gives him, in which case he always wears it in secret, close to skin under his clothes.

Persona Sketches by Kazuma Kaneko
Long post today. I recently picked up Megami Ibunroku Persona Club, a fan book that includes 12 of Kaneko’s rough sketches for the game’s original Persona designs. Here’s scans of them that I did over a couple of days, they were printed tiny so these were the best that I could get (there are also textless versions in the link).
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1waKTLvlDJb3DJAHWOUSgYVUEyXYiBiUO?usp=share_link
I’ll provide translated commentary too... translated by me, so it might not be that great. I’ll give my own input underneath as well, but I won’t be translating the handwriting on the art. It’s hard to read, for one, and it just outlines basic features and colours, likely for sprite artists to use as reference.
‘Vesta, the goddess of hearths in Roman mythology. The shape of her hat is somewhat reminiscent of a jester's, and her lack of legs is a distinguishing characteristic. Her entire body is covered in leather’.
Vesta also reappears in P2 EP, and is Yukino Mayuzumi's initial Persona in both games. You can also spot Vesta behind some text in the Persona Original Soundtrack booklet here.
‘Gozu-Tennō, deity of the Gion Shrine in Kyoto. According to some legends, he his sometimes equated with Susanō. The horns extending from his mask and intertwining with each-other are quite impactful’.
The cape is meant to be coloured red... definitely inspired by Spawn. Also in the Persona Original Soundtrack booklet, here.
‘Aizen-Myōō, the love deity of Esoteric Buddhism. She can transform sentient beings' lustful desires and troubles into spiritual enlightenment. Buddhist statues often depict Aizen-Myōō with the face of a scary-looking man, but the female image used here is perhaps the most human-like’.
Kei Nanjo's initial Persona in P1. Also in P2 EP, with a couple of additions to her design. Aside from her heels and long, black coverings, it’s essentially P1′s design replicated underneath.
“Lakshmi, the goddess of beauty in Hindu mythology. The protruding back of the head looks a bit like an alien. The rubber material used in these designs comes from Kaneko-san's favourite clothes”.
Not in P2 IS, but she does reappear as a sprite in P2 EP, with different colours. The head was definitely inspired by the Xenomorph from Alien.
“Kali, the goddess of war in Hindu mythology. The protruding design of her breasts is quite striking, but their bellow-like shapes are less noticeable in-game”.
Also seen controlling Maki in the 'Dolls' artwork.
“Shiva, the god of destruction in Hindu mythology. Both Shiva and Kali had different rough designs than the versions shown on page 4”.
The art on page 4 is just the finalised art of Shiva and Kali. The designs are the same as they are in the sketches, I think they just meant the art is different.
“Garuda, the bird god of Hindu mythology. The cape, pose and mask are reminiscent of old-fashioned anime”.
The anime in question seems to be ‘Science Ninja Team Gatchaman’ from 1972. Thanks to @RustyVanBurace on Twitter for pointing this out. Notice the G on their belts, which I suppose stands for Gatchaman (I haven’t watched it). Garuda also has the G on his stomach, but in this case, I guess it just stands for Garuda, lol.
“Vishnu, the main deity and god of creation in Hindu mythology. He has appeared in commercials and other media, so you might recognise his face, but few people actually identify him as Vishnu”.
Here’s a link to the commercials in question. He probably has the most art of any Persona in the game, which might be why the only text in the art is his name. There might have already been public material that the sprite artists could have used for reference, or maybe this art was done earlier on, and Kaneko didn’t think about outlining colours just yet.
"Durga, an incarnation of Kali. Her hat-like mask and the design of her clothes, which seem to be made of a rubber material, make for one of the most daring outfits in the series”.
Yukino Mayuzumi's ultimate persona in both P1 and P2 IS. If anything, it got even more daring in IS, with robo-hands cupping her boobies and being used as high heels.
"Shōmen-Kongō is prominent god in the Kōshin cult. Kōshin-tō monuments can often be found along roadsides. He is the initial persona of the protagonist, who you will see many times during awakening scenes. He has somewhat of a Tokusatsu design".
Better known as Seimen-Kongō. The name means 'Blue-Faced Vajra-Yakṣa'. I know next to little about any Kōshin stuff, so don’t trust my translation for this one particularly. Sometimes he’s depicted with three monkeys, as seen below. The monkeys are the origin of the phrase “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”, which is why one has a mask over their eyes, another has a mask over their mouth, and the last one has... headphones, lol. Shōmen-Kongō has a tail in the art below, but not in the rough art.
On the Tokusatsu note from that last sentence - I don’t know enough about Tokusatsu to guess what it’s from, but the face, including the lack of mouth, looks like a mask in particular. The yellow lines going down his body also look like something from Ultraman.
"Urvashi is a prominent Apsara (celestial nymph) in Hindu mythology. Her design strongly expresses the dancing aspect of the Apsaras”.
Cool design, but she’s not all that notable in-game. She’s meant to be the main’ Apsara, so it’s surprising that the only other game she appeared in was Majin Tensei II.
"Hanuman, the heroic god of Hindu mythology and the original form of Qitian Dasheng. The only motif remaining from the monkey figure is his tail. The shape of his head is quite familiar...”
Last one! AKA Sun Wukong, Seiten Taisei, Son Gokū, etc., you know the drill. The shape of his head is quite familiar indeed, since it comes from Ultraman. Ultraseven, in particular. Also notice the similar plated design on the neck and shoulders. Thank you AtmaFlare for finding this dude (or on Twitter, @atmaflare).
^ Is this Kaneko’s magnum opus?

I'm no master sprite artist, but I whipped up this Burton sprite that I colour picked from the colours of the game! Feel free to use him as you please. Put him in the blender.
